- 0:42Speaker 3: Master John Bescar Mills. John, it is so great to
- 0:47Speaker 3: be with you, my friend.
- 0:48Speaker 2: Well, thank you, Matt. It's great to be here with
- 0:50Speaker 2: you the Covert. You know, we've put on some paint.
- 0:54Speaker 2: We were able to do a few things to spruce
- 0:56Speaker 2: the place up, and I really think that Spirit Fridays,
- 1:00Speaker 2: where we wear jeans with our Amando armor, is really
- 1:03Speaker 2: going to bring back the vibe that we were trying
- 1:06Speaker 2: to create.
- 1:08Speaker 3: It's super comfortable, man, I don't know why we didn't
- 1:10Speaker 3: do this more often. You know, it's good, but it
- 1:12Speaker 3: is great.
- 1:12Speaker 2: Yeah, freeing in movement too, so you know, at which
- 1:16Speaker 2: moves people, you know, speaking of movement, they can move
- 1:19Speaker 2: on over to Apple Podcasts and give us a star
- 1:22Speaker 2: rating and review.
- 1:22Speaker 4: We would appreciate that very much.
- 1:24Speaker 2: And you can move on over to the nerd Party
- 1:26Speaker 2: dot com slash contact and drop us a line, or
- 1:29Speaker 2: go on the socials and find us on X at
- 1:33Speaker 2: the Jedi Masters. And then the network of course is
- 1:37Speaker 2: Join nerd Party on X and the nerd Party on
- 1:40Speaker 2: Facebook and Instagram. So hope to see around there, folks.
- 1:44Speaker 3: So, John, did you know that there is a Star
- 1:50Speaker 3: Wars movie that is coming out this year?
- 1:55Speaker 4: Oh?
- 1:55Speaker 2: My gosh, that's right, there is a Star Wars movie
- 1:57Speaker 2: coming out this year. I tend to for yet, since
- 2:00Speaker 2: there have been so few trailers, advertisements or billboards that
- 2:03Speaker 2: I've encountered at this point.
- 2:05Speaker 3: Well, I am here to tell you that, yes, there
- 2:08Speaker 3: is a Star Wars movie that's coming that's good. And
- 2:10Speaker 3: because of that, we thought, you know, we have covered
- 2:14Speaker 3: the first season of The Mandalorian. We went through and
- 2:19Speaker 3: did commentary tracks for that and had a blast doing it.
- 2:23Speaker 3: It was wonderful, and so we thought, well, wouldn't it
- 2:26Speaker 3: be fun to get ready for the upcoming season for
- 2:31Speaker 3: the upcoming film The Mandalorian and grogu by going through
- 2:36Speaker 3: the parts of the show that we haven't gone through
- 2:39Speaker 3: yet and review the episodes, and so tonight I'm really
- 2:43Speaker 3: excited to be diving into episode one of season two,
- 2:49Speaker 3: The Marshal, and I wanted to ask you this do
- 2:53Speaker 3: you what was it like for you just kind of
- 2:55Speaker 3: sitting down to watch this as it came out? It
- 2:59Speaker 3: was this is October thirtieth of twenty twenty when this
- 3:03Speaker 3: episode dropped, So it's been quite a while, good Greed,
- 3:06Speaker 3: And do you remember, though, just how you were feeling
- 3:09Speaker 3: coming off the massive season finale of season one.
- 3:14Speaker 2: I remember the feeling of coming off the massive season
- 3:17Speaker 2: finale of season one. I remember, much like most other people,
- 3:22Speaker 2: I was truly ready for season two. I was looking
- 3:25Speaker 2: for anything good to be released and break up some
- 3:29Speaker 2: of the monotony of what had been going on and
- 3:32Speaker 2: the joy of working practically twenty four to seven at
- 3:36Speaker 2: all times. So, I mean, I would be hard pressed
- 3:40Speaker 2: to think there's a single person that was not absolutely
- 3:43Speaker 2: stoked for season two to start. Like we were literally
- 3:49Speaker 2: a captive audience just hungry for something else to come
- 3:53Speaker 2: our way. And you know, like Rise of Skywalker is
- 3:59Speaker 2: in the rear view mirror. So this is the first
- 4:01Speaker 2: really important and amazing sort of story where it's like, Okay,
- 4:08Speaker 2: this is not at all in service of a movie
- 4:11Speaker 2: or promotion of a movie. This must stand on its own.
- 4:15Speaker 2: And so there's that type of anticipation and pressure going
- 4:19Speaker 2: into the season.
- 4:21Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 4:22Speaker 3: Absolutely, this is just one of those things where I
- 4:25Speaker 3: do remember how excited that I was for this to drop,
- 4:30Speaker 3: how excited I was for this to come out. You know,
- 4:34Speaker 3: episode one the first season, Excuse Me, had been just
- 4:39Speaker 3: a massive hit. You know, it had been pretty much
- 4:43Speaker 3: everything that you would have wanted it to be. And
- 4:48Speaker 3: to come into this season, you know, one I got
- 4:52Speaker 3: to ask you this because I didn't remember this, but
- 4:55Speaker 3: this is a fifty four minute episode, which doesn't happen
- 4:59Speaker 3: all that off in the Mandalorian they tend to be
- 5:01Speaker 3: about thirty five to forty minutes usually, So this is
- 5:04Speaker 3: almost an entire hour that we got to spend coming
- 5:07Speaker 3: back in to the world of the Mandalorian. And so
- 5:12Speaker 3: I wanted to ask you in the rewatch, did you
- 5:16Speaker 3: feel like this is one of those things that needed
- 5:19Speaker 3: an hour. Did you feel like this story dragged at
- 5:21Speaker 3: any point. Did you feel like in the rewatch you
- 5:23Speaker 3: could have cut some things here or rewatching it. Did
- 5:27Speaker 3: you feel like, no, this it really did feel like
- 5:32Speaker 3: this was the perfect way to reintroduce us into the
- 5:34Speaker 3: world of the Mandalorian.
- 5:36Speaker 2: Well, this is actually the second rewatch in six months
- 5:40Speaker 2: that I've had because my youngest has been watching it
- 5:44Speaker 2: with me, and so I came back as a refresher
- 5:46Speaker 2: for this as well. And I think that it starts
- 5:50Speaker 2: off amazingly well, it really reintroduces everybody, It raises the
- 5:55Speaker 2: stakes again, everything's super interesting from the get go. I
- 5:58Speaker 2: think that there's a little little bit of Tatoine fatigue
- 6:02Speaker 2: that plays into it a little bit, like you really
- 6:05Speaker 2: have to be settled in with the idea of going
- 6:07Speaker 2: back to Tatoween as many times as we do, and
- 6:11Speaker 2: I'm at peace with it. I'm I'm not one of
- 6:13Speaker 2: those people that's like, why are we going back to Tatoween.
- 6:15Speaker 2: It's like it's a familiar place. They don't have to
- 6:17Speaker 2: spend time setting up the environment. We know the lay
- 6:21Speaker 2: of the land, and of course you know, in hindsight,
- 6:25Speaker 2: we know how this is going to pay off. And
- 6:28Speaker 2: in terms of whether it dragged at all. I don't
- 6:33Speaker 2: think anything dragged, but I still think there were probably
- 6:35Speaker 2: like five minutes that could have been trimmed where it
- 6:38Speaker 2: took a little bit longer because there were certain inevitable
- 6:41Speaker 2: ends that we knew were going to happen at certain
- 6:44Speaker 2: chapter breaks. We knew that they weren't going to get
- 6:47Speaker 2: the crate dragon on the first go with the Tuscans
- 6:51Speaker 2: laying out the ban though we knew that they were
- 6:53Speaker 2: going to have to do this in that and we
- 6:56Speaker 2: knew that we were going to have to show the
- 6:58Speaker 2: townsfolk working with everybody. I think that stuff could have
- 7:02Speaker 2: been tightened up a little bit. I still think that
- 7:04Speaker 2: that stuff could have been tightened up a little bit.
- 7:06Speaker 2: But there's nothing so egregious where I'm like, oh, come on,
- 7:10Speaker 2: get moving with it. It's just little tweaks here and there,
- 7:15Speaker 2: if anything. Having the pleasure of rewatching it twice within
- 7:19Speaker 2: the last six months, I think that one of the
- 7:24Speaker 2: ways in which they hurt themselves is by not leaning
- 7:30Speaker 2: into making a longer arc here on Tattoine, And by
- 7:37Speaker 2: that I mean I think this episode could have been
- 7:40Speaker 2: two forty five minute episodes with a real cliffhanger at
- 7:44Speaker 2: the end.
- 7:44Speaker 4: Of this one, and I'm not going.
- 7:48Speaker 2: To try to rewrite anything, but I think what's weird
- 7:52Speaker 2: is this is a longer episode. But I feel like
- 7:56Speaker 2: for all the little stuff I would have trimmed, there's
- 7:59Speaker 2: other stuff that should have breathed more. By contrast, I
- 8:03Speaker 2: would have loved to see Grogo. I would have loved
- 8:06Speaker 2: to see Grogu interacting with townsfolk more. I would have
- 8:11Speaker 2: loved to see an extra scene with the Marshall and
- 8:17Speaker 2: Mando sitting where Mando is explaining the tenets of his
- 8:23Speaker 2: faith again that I think would have been nice to see.
- 8:28Speaker 2: And I see so I see opportunities where this could
- 8:30Speaker 2: have been movie length, while at the same time saying
- 8:33Speaker 2: there are parts that could have been trimmed down.
- 8:35Speaker 4: I mean, what about you. Did you see any drag
- 8:37Speaker 4: or anything like that.
- 8:39Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't feel like this episode drags, you know,
- 8:43Speaker 3: And I think part of that is just, you know,
- 8:47Speaker 3: coming off the end of the first season and the
- 8:52Speaker 3: big reveals that we got there and about mof Gideon,
- 8:57Speaker 3: and you know, the fact that he's still alive and
- 9:00Speaker 3: that they're being chased basically, and that you know, Mando
- 9:06Speaker 3: is worried about staying any any one place too long
- 9:09Speaker 3: because they might be found, and his whole goal is
- 9:12Speaker 3: just to get you know, this kid back to his people,
- 9:17Speaker 3: you know, uh, the Jedi. I love that that as
- 9:22Speaker 3: a motivating factor and the thread that runs through this.
- 9:25Speaker 3: But at the same time, just like this episode specifically,
- 9:28Speaker 3: I think one of the things that it does is
- 9:30Speaker 3: just allows you to enjoy being back with Mando and
- 9:33Speaker 3: Grogu in a place where you're familiar, but by completely
- 9:38Speaker 3: re making what we think of Tattoine. Right, Like, we're
- 9:45Speaker 3: going to spend time on Tatooine, but we're going to
- 9:48Speaker 3: make you rethink the sand people, and we're going to
- 9:50Speaker 3: make you rethink the type of people that live here,
- 9:52Speaker 3: and we're going to make you rethink what it was like,
- 9:55Speaker 3: you know, to have the Empire defeated, only to have
- 9:59Speaker 3: you know, another terrible power come into this town as
- 10:05Speaker 3: Pella Pegla Mospelgo, Mospelgo. And so all of those things together,
- 10:15Speaker 3: I think are what make this just a great episode.
- 10:18Speaker 3: You know, if you're going to go to somewhere that
- 10:20Speaker 3: feels familiar, I think the important thing then is to
- 10:24Speaker 3: add to that place. Yeah, so you come away feeling
- 10:27Speaker 3: like it was worth visiting In the same way, right.
- 10:30Speaker 3: I think there got to be a point in like
- 10:34Speaker 3: say Star Trek, right where it's like we kept doing
- 10:36Speaker 3: things with the Klingons, but it was it felt like
- 10:38Speaker 3: the same thing over and over again until we got
- 10:40Speaker 3: to like Deep Space nine, where we really dove into
- 10:43Speaker 3: a lot of you know, Wharf's background and the machinations
- 10:47Speaker 3: were there, and and all the things they did there,
- 10:49Speaker 3: or even you know, I think about the way that
- 10:52Speaker 3: show specifically just enhanced all of the different races that
- 10:56Speaker 3: had come up in the next generation, but we'd never
- 10:58Speaker 3: fleshed out this. We're going to do that in this
- 11:01Speaker 3: episode specifically, like with the Tusken Raiders and with you know,
- 11:06Speaker 3: kind of what it's like to live in one of
- 11:08Speaker 3: these towns in on tatsu Win where and a place
- 11:16Speaker 3: that you know feels so inhospitable, but we're going to
- 11:20Speaker 3: get a chance to see what it's like to do that.
- 11:22Speaker 3: And I think all of that was wonderful Wall At
- 11:26Speaker 3: the same time, of course, you know, this is a rewatch.
- 11:28Speaker 3: We're talking about this, but we're also going to do
- 11:31Speaker 3: the thing that everybody wondered if we would do, which
- 11:35Speaker 3: is setting up the return of boa Fett.
- 11:38Speaker 2: You know, seeing Boba FET's armor and seeing it all
- 11:42Speaker 2: pitted and scarred. What I like about the episode is
- 11:46Speaker 2: they leave the room that it's just the armor, that
- 11:49Speaker 2: it's that it's fats armor. For sure, there's no question
- 11:52Speaker 2: that it's FET's armor, but there is a question about
- 11:59Speaker 2: whether Fet himself right exactly, is included in this package.
- 12:04Speaker 2: And I really give them a lot of credit for
- 12:08Speaker 2: putting the armor on to look awkward enough on Timothy
- 12:13Speaker 2: Olephant that he he looks very comfortable in the armor,
- 12:19Speaker 2: but it's obviously not made for him right exactly. And
- 12:24Speaker 2: I think that's really cool. And to your point about
- 12:27Speaker 2: you know, enhancing things. We've seen the moisture farm, we've
- 12:32Speaker 2: seen the dive bar, we've seen ceed things, but now
- 12:37Speaker 2: we see the actual western outpost town and it makes
- 12:42Speaker 2: sense because that leans into the whole idea of a
- 12:45Speaker 2: Western in space. And I like the fact that they
- 12:51Speaker 2: make most pel Goo like one of those stereotypical nineteen
- 12:56Speaker 2: fifties Western towns where it looks like the little pop
- 13:00Speaker 2: up town that the gold Rush left behind, and it
- 13:04Speaker 2: has a really it has a really nice feel to it.
- 13:07Speaker 2: And so I agree with you if you know, yes,
- 13:11Speaker 2: I think the Tattoine fatigue is overcome by the fact
- 13:15Speaker 2: that we're seeing other parts of it. We're getting this
- 13:17Speaker 2: idea that every time we go back, we're getting another
- 13:20Speaker 2: piece of Tattoine that we haven't experienced before. That's a plus,
- 13:24Speaker 2: that's a huge plus.
- 13:26Speaker 4: Yep. Yeah.
- 13:28Speaker 3: Well, and I mean, the one of the things that
- 13:30Speaker 3: I really responded to watching the episode is when they
- 13:33Speaker 3: tell the backstory of this town and what happened to it, right,
- 13:36Speaker 3: and the fact that you know, everybody thought things were
- 13:39Speaker 3: going to be great after the you know, end of
- 13:41Speaker 3: the Empire, and what happens is that there are all
- 13:46Speaker 3: of these groups just right under the surface waiting for
- 13:50Speaker 3: that change to happen so they can jump on opportunities.
- 13:53Speaker 3: And so the mining Guild comes in here and takes
- 13:56Speaker 3: over this town for its own nefarious purposes. And I think,
- 14:00Speaker 3: you know, that's the beauty of like, the thing that
- 14:04Speaker 3: this Mando verse in general has been doing, right, is
- 14:09Speaker 3: showing there's almost a real reality to you know, when
- 14:13Speaker 3: a massive power like the Empire extinguishes, there's always another
- 14:18Speaker 3: group that's kind of ready to fill that vacuum. Well,
- 14:21Speaker 3: you know, yeah, I mean, and especially in a place
- 14:24Speaker 3: like tatsu Wein, Right, that's so far removed anyway.
- 14:27Speaker 2: Well, I wouldn't expect a show made by gen xers
- 14:32Speaker 2: to be unaware of what happened with Eastern Europe when
- 14:37Speaker 2: the Soviet Union fell was exactly this, right, was absolute chaos,
- 14:41Speaker 2: and these horrible groups which had been sort of kept
- 14:45Speaker 2: at bay by the larger suppressive power, suddenly are set free.
- 14:50Speaker 2: The criminal organizations always existed there, but the largest criminal
- 14:54Speaker 2: organization of all, which was the government that kept them,
- 14:57Speaker 2: you know, to heal, suddenly is on. You know, it's
- 15:01Speaker 2: almost like a pack of dogs once the leader is
- 15:06Speaker 2: taken out. Yes, yes, all it is is just everybody
- 15:09Speaker 2: left trying to buy for who's going to be the
- 15:11Speaker 2: new leader? And yeah, so yeah, that is. And it
- 15:16Speaker 2: also winds up building the lore of Star Wars itself
- 15:22Speaker 2: in a very important way that we never got otherwise
- 15:28Speaker 2: for post Empire. Now, we got it in the books
- 15:30Speaker 2: in the nineties and stuff like that, but like the
- 15:32Speaker 2: post Empire, Star Wars universe is a very interesting place
- 15:36Speaker 2: to be, and so we get some macro story conveyed
- 15:42Speaker 2: on a micro level so that we can relate to
- 15:45Speaker 2: it well.
- 15:46Speaker 3: And part of that too is in just building off
- 15:50Speaker 3: of that, right. You know. One of the things that
- 15:53Speaker 3: I think became really apparent is that, you know, when
- 15:56Speaker 3: the sequel trilogy had come out, it didn't really feel
- 15:59Speaker 3: like that they had constructed what the backstory was for
- 16:03Speaker 3: those thirty years. And so it it feels as though
- 16:08Speaker 3: being in this place allows Favreau and Felony to be
- 16:13Speaker 3: able to help build the foundation for something that's already
- 16:19Speaker 3: being propped up by toothpicks, you know, and so we're
- 16:22Speaker 3: going to put the you know, the the true foundation
- 16:25Speaker 3: under that. And that's what this series and its fellow
- 16:29Speaker 3: series have really been doing in that way, and like
- 16:34Speaker 3: we like you mentioned, I mean, that's what is happening
- 16:38Speaker 3: in this episode, but it's happening in a way that
- 16:41Speaker 3: is so organic to this story. Yeah, it's not like
- 16:45Speaker 3: shoving it in your face or anything, because that's not
- 16:47Speaker 3: really what the episode is about. But it utilizes that
- 16:51Speaker 3: opportunity to be able to give us that And I
- 16:54Speaker 3: think that's where coming off the first season and now
- 16:57Speaker 3: into the second season, it's like, Okay, this writing is
- 16:59Speaker 3: just picking up right where we left off, and they're not.
- 17:02Speaker 3: They're not you know, missing any beats.
- 17:04Speaker 4: I want to throw out there as well.
- 17:07Speaker 2: I want to open up the discussion of the Tuscans
- 17:09Speaker 2: because oh yes, please, you know, we do more work
- 17:13Speaker 2: to uh pardon the use of the phrase, but to
- 17:17Speaker 2: humanize the Tuscans. There are people now, They're a very functional, relatable,
- 17:24Speaker 2: interesting people, a tribal people. And I want to throw
- 17:29Speaker 2: an idea out at you. I want to get your
- 17:31Speaker 2: reaction to it. I think that that part of world
- 17:35Speaker 2: building is also important because it makes Anakins act in
- 17:40Speaker 2: episode two.
- 17:41Speaker 4: All the more monstrous. What do you think? You know?
- 17:44Speaker 3: What I I think that is done so well is
- 17:48Speaker 3: is that we do not negate that these people are
- 17:51Speaker 3: harsh and cruel and in some ways there is in
- 17:59Speaker 3: morale to their actions, right where we never we never
- 18:03Speaker 3: discount that, but we do give them a humanized face
- 18:12Speaker 3: in the sense of these people are like this because
- 18:17Speaker 3: they live in such a harsh environment and so it's
- 18:20Speaker 3: a you know, it's a eat create world out here,
- 18:26Speaker 3: and so.
- 18:28Speaker 4: If you.
- 18:30Speaker 3: If you're not willing to do whatever it takes to survive,
- 18:33Speaker 3: you're not going to survive, right.
- 18:35Speaker 2: Yes, yes, and keep in mind I'm not and I
- 18:39Speaker 2: wasn't discounting anything about SMI what happened to her. But
- 18:43Speaker 2: I think also layering on there is you very much
- 18:46Speaker 2: get the sense that the tribes themselves are different, that
- 18:51Speaker 2: this tribe we're dealing with is able to be.
- 18:56Speaker 4: More reasonable maybe.
- 18:57Speaker 2: Than if we ran across tribe that exists in another
- 19:02Speaker 2: part of Tatowee, which is totally fair, because that breaks
- 19:08Speaker 2: up the trap that I think some earlier and even
- 19:11Speaker 2: later Star Trek fell into with the idea of the monoculture,
- 19:16Speaker 2: where it's like, you can't stereotype all Tuscans based on
- 19:22Speaker 2: your experience with one tribe of Tuscans. Right, there are similarities,
- 19:28Speaker 2: but they're not all one unified planetary culture as it were,
- 19:34Speaker 2: And I think that's you know, that's good. I think
- 19:37Speaker 2: that the one place where I would shine a light
- 19:41Speaker 2: on this is I think that there are some moments
- 19:47Speaker 2: where this is the first time where the volume's limitations
- 19:51Speaker 2: start to come through. And I would actually say all
- 19:55Speaker 2: the way in the very beginning of the episode, because
- 19:57Speaker 2: it starts with this beautiful, beautiful shot of them walking
- 20:01Speaker 2: and coming across It's like, I'm in it, I'm gorgeous.
- 20:04Speaker 2: I believe in the environment they get in, they come
- 20:07Speaker 2: back out, and when they Chase John Loguozamo's character. You
- 20:10Speaker 2: know that he's voicing some of the background effects start
- 20:14Speaker 2: to look a little too flat, And I don't know
- 20:18Speaker 2: if that's because they got too ambitious with it, and
- 20:23Speaker 2: I don't know if that's because it's not Greek Fraser
- 20:27Speaker 2: behind the camera, which I'm not discounting the hard work
- 20:31Speaker 2: of other cinematographers, but there are certain cinematographers where they
- 20:36Speaker 2: know how to use this new environment really well. Yeah,
- 20:39Speaker 2: and Fraser is definitely one of them. And I think
- 20:43Speaker 2: that I think it's baz Iodine Iodoin.
- 20:47Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 20:48Speaker 2: I've never heard the last name pronounced, so forgive me
- 20:50Speaker 2: if I'm messing it up.
- 20:51Speaker 4: I think that.
- 20:52Speaker 2: Maybe he's undone a little bit by what they're trying
- 20:55Speaker 2: to do, because I think the darkness of the night
- 20:58Speaker 2: scene you start to see some of the scenes in
- 21:02Speaker 2: the volume.
- 21:02Speaker 3: Well, and I think that's even the case a little bit,
- 21:06Speaker 3: you know, just in some of the scenes on Tatooine.
- 21:10Speaker 3: This is an incredibly ambitious episode. Yeah, And I think,
- 21:13Speaker 3: you know, when you think think about this, this movie
- 21:18Speaker 3: does Dune before Dune, does you know, with the whole
- 21:23Speaker 3: thing about the Great Dragon, basically feeling like a sand
- 21:26Speaker 3: worm on Dune, and they do all the same type
- 21:29Speaker 3: of effects that you get in Dune but on a
- 21:31Speaker 3: TV budget, and the fact that it looks as good
- 21:34Speaker 3: as it does on this budget is pretty amazing. And
- 21:37Speaker 3: just the effects of the Great Dragon in general, I mean,
- 21:41Speaker 3: I'm still kind of blown away by how good this looks.
- 21:45Speaker 3: The effects still really hold up and they did a
- 21:48Speaker 3: great job. But no, I agree with you. I mean,
- 21:52Speaker 3: there there is and there are a few places throughout
- 21:57Speaker 3: the episode when when you're just more aware, especially after
- 22:03Speaker 3: we all knew what the technology was that they were
- 22:06Speaker 3: using to make this show what it is, and there
- 22:11Speaker 3: are spots where it's it's, yeah, it's pretty clear. I
- 22:14Speaker 3: mean there's even that scene where you know Cobb vanth Is,
- 22:21Speaker 3: you know, he's escaped and you know he's got the
- 22:25Speaker 3: canto and he falls down and he hits the ground,
- 22:29Speaker 3: you know, and it's like, oh, yeah, that's just the
- 22:32Speaker 3: volume floor covered with sand, but it doesn't look like
- 22:36Speaker 3: enough sand to make it feel like yes, you know,
- 22:39Speaker 3: and so that those are just those places. But what
- 22:43Speaker 3: I loved, and we covered this a little bit, but
- 22:46Speaker 3: I just wanted to circle back to it is that
- 22:48Speaker 3: I think they did do a great job as well,
- 22:51Speaker 3: the fact that they didn't make you think immediately that, oh,
- 22:55Speaker 3: Boba Fett has to be back. It was more like, oh,
- 22:58Speaker 3: it kind of makes sense that the Starlac just might
- 23:01Speaker 3: spit up his armor because you can't digest Bescar. And
- 23:05Speaker 3: in some ways, there was a part of me watching
- 23:07Speaker 3: the episode where I kind of hoped that that would
- 23:10Speaker 3: be the case. But now that it isn't the case,
- 23:13Speaker 3: of course, Boba Fett is back. How did you feel
- 23:17Speaker 3: then and how do you feel now about the fact
- 23:21Speaker 3: that they chose to actually let the fet return.
- 23:26Speaker 2: I will be completely honest that I wasn't the least
- 23:28Speaker 2: bit surprised. It's been something the fans have wanted repeatedly
- 23:32Speaker 2: through time. For anyone listening who's too young to remember,
- 23:36Speaker 2: and I have just repeated this ad nauseum. They brought
- 23:41Speaker 2: him back in the original Marvel Comic Series issue eighty one.
- 23:44Speaker 2: We all loved it. Then Marvel Comic Series went away.
- 23:48Speaker 2: Then they brought him back in Dark Empire two, and
- 23:52Speaker 2: then they stretched that out with other stories. Okay, we
- 23:57Speaker 2: went along with that too. We were happy with it
- 24:00Speaker 2: until they went too far with it. Then that went away.
- 24:03Speaker 2: Then Boba FET's origin story changed, so that wasn't bringing
- 24:07Speaker 2: him back, but it was reinventing him. And then now
- 24:10Speaker 2: they bring him back. It's like people were obsessed. It's
- 24:13Speaker 2: it's buckethead, it's the armor, you know, like, yeah, he's
- 24:17Speaker 2: just part and parcel of it. And so it's hard
- 24:21Speaker 2: to have a reaction outside of like cool, I'm going
- 24:24Speaker 2: to get to see these people's take.
- 24:27Speaker 4: On how they bring back both.
- 24:28Speaker 2: It's almost like a right of passage for a Star
- 24:30Speaker 2: Wars writer to bring back Boba Fett and can you
- 24:33Speaker 2: bring him back in an interesting fashion? And I think, yeah, yeah,
- 24:37Speaker 2: So I mean what about you? Were you like shocked,
- 24:39Speaker 2: were you surprised? Were you excited? Did you pump your
- 24:41Speaker 2: fist in the air and spill your nachos on the ground,
- 24:45Speaker 2: you know, as you spike the ball like was winning
- 24:47Speaker 2: the Super Bowl?
- 24:49Speaker 3: Uh. You know It's funny because I then was more
- 24:54Speaker 3: of the opinion that I think I want him to
- 24:58Speaker 3: stay dead. You know, I want some character to stay
- 25:00Speaker 3: dead in series, and Boba Fett was kind of one
- 25:03Speaker 3: of those characters where you know, honestly, the character has
- 25:10Speaker 3: a life of its own in the sense that it
- 25:13Speaker 3: became something that he was never really intended to be,
- 25:17Speaker 3: at least by you know, Lucas, and uh, the love
- 25:22Speaker 3: of the character was driven specifically by you know, fans
- 25:27Speaker 3: who really wanted the toy back in the day and
- 25:31Speaker 3: them playing with the toy back in the day more
- 25:35Speaker 3: than you know. Again, then it was ever really thought
- 25:39Speaker 3: possible or desired by George.
- 25:42Speaker 4: And so.
- 25:44Speaker 3: Because of that, I never really cared if he came back,
- 25:47Speaker 3: and I never really cared about the character in like
- 25:50Speaker 3: a he was not my favorite. I just like so,
- 25:56Speaker 3: but you know, it's it's fine, he's back. Like I'm
- 26:01Speaker 3: not gonna throw a hissy fit or be mad or whatever.
- 26:04Speaker 3: It just he's back, and that's it's fun, you know.
- 26:06Speaker 3: And I think they have utilized him and at least
- 26:12Speaker 3: a semi interesting way. You know, maybe one day we'll
- 26:16Speaker 3: revisit the Book of beaua Fette and talk about that
- 26:20Speaker 3: and my opinion changes on that show.
- 26:23Speaker 2: I think we should, because I'm rewatching that with my
- 26:26Speaker 2: youngest right now and it is better than I gave
- 26:31Speaker 2: it credit for at the time. And that is that
- 26:33Speaker 2: is what I will say, is that I have that interesting.
- 26:36Speaker 2: I've been enjoying the show more this time than I
- 26:40Speaker 2: did the first time, and I honestly think it has
- 26:44Speaker 2: everything to do with expectation, because I think the bar
- 26:49Speaker 2: was so high after those first two seasons of Mando
- 26:54Speaker 2: and then it is a very different show and it's
- 26:58Speaker 2: not perfect by any stretch obviously, and it's very much
- 27:03Speaker 2: Chase still exists, you know what. My youngest, my youngest
- 27:07Speaker 2: loved it, and I, you know, sometimes listen everybody in
- 27:13Speaker 2: the sound of you know who can hear my voice.
- 27:16Speaker 2: Sometimes we're grumpier than we think we are. And sometimes
- 27:20Speaker 2: it really helps watching with a kid because when you
- 27:23Speaker 2: get their reaction to something, it can be a lot
- 27:26Speaker 2: of fun, just like watching Mando season two with her
- 27:29Speaker 2: was a lot of fun. So and that's why I'm
- 27:31Speaker 2: always happy to, you know, come back and talk about
- 27:34Speaker 2: it again. But if you had to pick one moment
- 27:39Speaker 2: from this episode that's like your favorite moment of the end,
- 27:43Speaker 2: I want to do this with each of the episodes
- 27:45Speaker 2: as we talk about them, what's your favorite moment? What
- 27:47Speaker 2: is the one where somebody says, first episode season two,
- 27:50Speaker 2: the Marshall, what's your What's the moment that comes to mind?
- 27:52Speaker 4: And we're like, yeah, that was cool. I really like that.
- 27:59Speaker 3: I love that they remembered that his rifle has the
- 28:03Speaker 3: ability to send out the electricity and stun and that's
- 28:08Speaker 3: what he utilized to get out of the Crate Dragon.
- 28:11Speaker 3: I thought that was you know, because you know, the
- 28:13Speaker 3: moment we knew he was gonna quote unquote sacrifice his life,
- 28:17Speaker 3: He's not dying and so but the way that they
- 28:21Speaker 3: got him out of that was incredibly clever because it's
- 28:23Speaker 3: something that had been set up in the very first episode,
- 28:27Speaker 3: you know, when he hit the big walrust thing with it.
- 28:30Speaker 3: So I thought that was great. And I still love
- 28:34Speaker 3: that moment every time because not only is at a
- 28:36Speaker 3: great moment, but it still looks fantastic.
- 28:39Speaker 4: It does what about you? It does?
- 28:42Speaker 2: You know, it's tough, but it's very little moments, very
- 28:46Speaker 2: little moments. I'll give you my top three and then
- 28:50Speaker 2: i'll tell you what the top one of it was,
- 28:53Speaker 2: also with a crate Dragon. Because I'm my father's son
- 28:57Speaker 2: and I have his sense of humor. Whenaging comes up
- 29:00Speaker 2: and ignores the bantha and eats the tuscan, I will
- 29:03Speaker 2: giggle every time I watch that because.
- 29:05Speaker 4: That's just classic cure and it's just funny as hell.
- 29:10Speaker 2: Number two is Grogu coming up very like Looney Tunes
- 29:16Speaker 2: or Three Stooges style, coming up out of a little
- 29:20Speaker 2: spittoon and his ears coming up out.
- 29:22Speaker 4: Yep. Love that one.
- 29:24Speaker 3: It felt like one of those rides at Disneyland or
- 29:27Speaker 3: disney World, right.
- 29:28Speaker 2: Yes, so, And then I would say that probably my
- 29:33Speaker 2: topper is and it's a really well orchestrated scene, but
- 29:39Speaker 2: the scene where the Marshall meets Mando all the way
- 29:43Speaker 2: up to you know, I mean, the whole thing is great,
- 29:46Speaker 2: But even within that scene is when Cobb Vance takes
- 29:54Speaker 2: the helmet off and Mando stops and you see his
- 29:58Speaker 2: head twitch a little bit, like I didn't think I
- 30:01Speaker 2: was gonna have to kill this guy. Like that's a
- 30:03Speaker 2: really beautiful touch. It's like a little character moment that.
- 30:08Speaker 4: That we talked about this before.
- 30:10Speaker 2: The body language of Mando is so important, and it's
- 30:14Speaker 2: a reminder that you can convey everything with the littlest
- 30:18Speaker 2: of gestures and people understand what you're doing.
- 30:22Speaker 3: That I couldn't agree with you more. I mean, I
- 30:24Speaker 3: think all of those are really great moments for the episode.
- 30:27Speaker 3: And I also love that introduction and just their you know, relationship.
- 30:34Speaker 3: But gosh, Timothy, all the fun. And that's one of
- 30:36Speaker 3: the things I think we've got to talk about here,
- 30:38Speaker 3: is just like the casting on this show continues to
- 30:41Speaker 3: just be clutch, right, Yeah, Like they are just nailing
- 30:46Speaker 3: it at every moment with people they're bringing into this show.
- 30:50Speaker 3: And to bring him in, you know, somebody who's known
- 30:52Speaker 3: for Justified and just feels like he belongs in a
- 30:56Speaker 3: Western any way, great call on their part, and so
- 31:00Speaker 3: I'm really glad that they did that. But John, you know,
- 31:04Speaker 3: before we get out of here, and you know, I
- 31:09Speaker 3: think that, you know, it might be time to wrap
- 31:12Speaker 3: these negotiations so soon, maybe maybe letting people know where
- 31:16Speaker 3: they could find you and what you've got going on,
- 31:18Speaker 3: and if they then maybe wanted to talk a little
- 31:20Speaker 3: bit more Mando or or maybe even talk about what
- 31:24Speaker 3: has turned you on the book of both it.
- 31:27Speaker 2: Well, guys, you can reach me online as kessel Junkie

- 31:43Speaker 2: That's my name online and you can find me right
- 31:46Speaker 2: here on the network, co hosting a show called house
- 31:48Speaker 2: Lights with Tristan Riddell and Darren Moser, where I repeatedly
- 31:53Speaker 2: try to tell them what they should have thought of
- 31:55Speaker 2: movies done by famous directors as we look at all
- 31:59Speaker 2: of their works or some of their works, or different
- 32:02Speaker 2: characters and stuff like that. We have a lot of
- 32:04Speaker 2: fun and I'm always right and when they agree with me,
- 32:08Speaker 2: so are they.
- 32:09Speaker 4: But Matt, where can people find you out there?
- 32:11Speaker 1: Well?
- 32:11Speaker 3: I do have to say that you were absolutely right
- 32:14Speaker 3: about Cosablanca. Tristan was absolutely wrong as you s Yes,
- 32:19Speaker 3: one place where you really shined, both you and Darren,
- 32:23Speaker 3: so well done.
- 32:24Speaker 4: Thank you.

- 32:39Speaker 3: the six or two Club. John is a frequent guest
- 32:41Speaker 3: over there as we talk about all of these franchises
- 32:44Speaker 3: we love outside of Star Trek. And then a lot
- 32:46Speaker 3: of great Star Trek talk over there as well, so
- 32:48Speaker 3: hope you'll check all that out. But John, I think
- 32:51Speaker 3: that it's time to close these negotiations because I hear
- 32:55Speaker 3: that they are serving a Mospelgo great steak and I
- 33:00Speaker 3: don't want to miss.
- 33:01Speaker 2: It, so wow, my goodness gracious, I hope they have
- 33:04Speaker 2: that with some womp rat gravy. So master rushing negotiations
- 33:08Speaker 2: are clothes.
- 33:18Speaker 3: Join the Revolution, Join the Nerd Party.
