- 0:47Speaker 4: Hello friend, Hello, Hello, how are you? Sir?
- 0:50Speaker 3: You know I'm doing great, pal. It's a beautiful day
- 0:52Speaker 3: here in Minnesota. It is our first little peak of
- 0:56Speaker 3: fake spring. I can only assume that's what's happening. I
- 1:01Speaker 3: think it hit fifty.
- 1:03Speaker 4: Yeah, it's welcome to man. Because it's been so brutally
- 1:06Speaker 4: cold the last few weeks, so it's been pretty nice.
- 1:09Speaker 3: I continue to wear shorts when I go out. I
- 1:11Speaker 3: don't care what the temperature is. They can't tell me
- 1:14Speaker 3: what to do wrap, No, they can't. They can't. But buddy,
- 1:19Speaker 3: how are you?
- 1:20Speaker 4: I'm good.
- 1:21Speaker 2: We this weekend it was kind of fun.
- 1:23Speaker 4: We did a Mall of America's Staycation with the kids.
- 1:27Speaker 3: Oh darps, that sounds very fun.
- 1:30Speaker 4: It was really fun, dude. We Yeah, I got to
- 1:33Speaker 4: do some rides. We tried that Crayola experience, which how
- 1:37Speaker 4: was that. They loved it. You get to do a
- 1:40Speaker 4: bunch of cool things you could, like you get to
- 1:43Speaker 4: put the wrapping on a crayon and like name it.
- 1:47Speaker 4: So there was like Charlie Blue and Liddy Purple Mute,
- 1:52Speaker 4: and they get to make a little crayon which is
- 1:55Speaker 4: pretty neat, like it melts the wax down, the fun
- 1:58Speaker 4: worms it. Yeah, and just a bunch of different things.
- 2:02Speaker 4: That's it was neat. It was really neat.
- 2:05Speaker 2: I thought we did that fun.
- 2:06Speaker 3: I wish my niece and nephew were they're old, they're
- 2:09Speaker 3: probably yeah, I'm not that interested, but you know, yeah.
- 2:13Speaker 4: Six and eight seemed like kind of the perfect like
- 2:16Speaker 4: the happy zone there for that.
- 2:18Speaker 2: It was perfect.
- 2:19Speaker 4: Yeah. And then yeah, we let them have a little
- 2:22Speaker 4: bit of money to go and like do some shopping
- 2:24Speaker 4: and so uh got to go to like Lego Land.
- 2:28Speaker 3: And do that wonderful due in the same little Yeah,
- 2:31Speaker 3: that's so fun.
- 2:33Speaker 4: It was cool. And then yeah, we stayed at the
- 2:34Speaker 4: Radison Blue that's like connected to the hotel.
- 2:37Speaker 3: Perfect.
- 2:38Speaker 4: So we got to like do some swimming, which they
- 2:40Speaker 4: haven't done in a while. And yeah it was fun, man,
- 2:43Speaker 4: we had.
- 2:43Speaker 3: Really that's a perfect vacation too, for like when it
- 2:46Speaker 3: is really cold exactly. Yeah, yeah, that's that's really I
- 2:50Speaker 3: didn't think about that, but yeah, you never really have
- 2:52Speaker 3: to go outside, but it feels like you're doing stuff.
- 2:55Speaker 4: This is the third time we've done it, and it's
- 2:57Speaker 4: always in the middle of just super cool.
- 3:00Speaker 2: That's brilliant times.
- 3:01Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, that's really smart. Yeah, I like it nice.
- 3:05Speaker 2: It was neat, very very cool.
- 3:07Speaker 3: Have you been watching the film lately?
- 3:09Speaker 1: I have.
- 3:10Speaker 4: I've been watching some films. You had recommended this movie
- 3:13Speaker 4: to me. Snack Shack.
- 3:17Speaker 3: Oh you want Snackshack? Tell me what think?
- 3:20Speaker 4: Loved it? It's a lot of it. It's on Prime
- 3:24Speaker 4: right now.
- 3:24Speaker 3: Yeah, hell yeah.
- 3:26Speaker 4: So yeah, this movie.
- 3:27Speaker 2: It's cool.
- 3:27Speaker 4: It's set in Nebraska in the early nineties. It's very classic, yes,
- 3:32Speaker 4: your classic coming of age story, which we love. Yes,
- 3:36Speaker 4: but it's set over a summer where they're getting ready
- 3:39Speaker 4: to like maybe start going to college. I think that's
- 3:42Speaker 4: their senior year. Summer, I think, I think that's right. Yeah,
- 3:47Speaker 4: but yeah, very nostalgic. It was a simpler time back then,
- 3:51Speaker 4: you know, just people riding bikes all over the person
- 3:54Speaker 4: and no phones and all that kind of stuff. But
- 3:57Speaker 4: there's like a little love triangle in there. There's a
- 4:00Speaker 4: lot of humor that Gabriel LaBelle is.
- 4:04Speaker 2: Just killing it.
- 4:05Speaker 3: He's so good. I like that kid.
- 4:07Speaker 4: He went from the Fableman's to the Jason Reitman film
- 4:12Speaker 4: about SNL call yeahday night yep, and this like, he's
- 4:16Speaker 4: killing it. It weighs her passed my expectations. It's just
- 4:19Speaker 4: a good, solid watch. I would highly recommend.
- 4:21Speaker 3: Yeah, just like fun, just a nice little fun ramp.
- 4:25Speaker 4: Absolutely, I like it.
- 4:26Speaker 3: Very cool man.
- 4:27Speaker 4: Yeah, I was into it. What about you? What have
- 4:29Speaker 4: you been watching?
- 4:30Speaker 3: So I went back in the way back machine. It
- 4:33Speaker 3: wasn't that far back twenty sixteen. I had never seen
- 4:36Speaker 3: The Boss. Have you ever seen this movie? The Melissa
- 4:39Speaker 3: McCarthy one.
- 4:40Speaker 4: Oh? Was Will Ferrell in it too?
- 4:43Speaker 2: No?
- 4:44Speaker 3: This is Melissa McCarthy and Kristen Bell were in this one.
- 4:48Speaker 4: No, I never saw this one.
- 4:49Speaker 3: I didn't either. It turns out it's very fun because
- 4:52Speaker 3: they're both fun, So that makes sense, But this is
- 4:55Speaker 3: the story. Most of McCarthy is like this like super
- 4:58Speaker 3: rich entrepreneur, right, and Kristin Bell is her almost like
- 5:03Speaker 3: motivational speakery kind of business person. And then Kristen Bell
- 5:07Speaker 3: is like her assistant who runs everything but is sort
- 5:10Speaker 3: of like, you know, undervalued and all these things. Madness ensues.
- 5:15Speaker 3: She Melisa McCarthy loses her wealth and then is trying
- 5:19Speaker 3: to like get it back, and it's all the story
- 5:21Speaker 3: of how that's all happening. And it's a really like
- 5:24Speaker 3: sweet little film, some very funny stuff, and it it's
- 5:28Speaker 3: super heavy on the like physical comedy, which is always
- 5:32Speaker 3: a good time. Melissam McCarthy's so good at that that
- 5:34Speaker 3: it's just she is so good hysterical. But yeah, just
- 5:38Speaker 3: a really light, fun movie. That's I don't know, I
- 5:42Speaker 3: just really liked it. I thought it was really fun.
- 5:44Speaker 3: Peter Dinklag is in it is as a really fun
- 5:47Speaker 3: little part. I'm trying to think of who else I
- 5:50Speaker 3: really recognized in it. Well, Kathy Bates is in it,
- 5:53Speaker 3: and she's wonderful for sure. In her top five movies
- 5:56Speaker 3: of all time to five it's.
- 5:58Speaker 2: Not about Schmidt.
- 5:59Speaker 3: But though truly what is what is? But yeah, it's
- 6:02Speaker 3: just a really fun movie. There's tons of comedic actors
- 6:05Speaker 3: that make appearances that you'll know from other things. And uh, yeah,
- 6:09Speaker 3: it's just a good time. That was on HBO Max
- 6:11Speaker 3: if anybody wants to check that out or just Max Now,
- 6:14Speaker 3: I think is it is?
- 6:15Speaker 2: It has been for some time.
- 6:17Speaker 4: Yeah, well you know, I don't know.
- 6:19Speaker 3: I know it still has HBO branding on it, so
- 6:21Speaker 3: I never know what the rules are. Yeah, and frankly
- 6:26Speaker 3: I don't care. Ah, so yeah, the boss, check it out.
- 6:29Speaker 4: The Boss. I thought it was going to be a
- 6:31Speaker 4: doc about like Bruce Springsteen or something.
- 6:33Speaker 3: Oh, I do want to see I still have never
- 6:35Speaker 3: seen the I think they did taping of his like
- 6:38Speaker 3: Broadway show. I still have watched that. He neither looks fun,
- 6:42Speaker 3: but yeah, it's not that. Have you been streaming anything fun?
- 6:46Speaker 4: So yes, I'm a little bummed out because we streamed
- 6:50Speaker 4: the final season of What We Do in the Shadows
- 6:54Speaker 4: season six.
- 6:54Speaker 3: I still haven't done it. I feel like I'm holding
- 6:57Speaker 3: off and I don't. I've only just realized it, you know,
- 7:00Speaker 3: like I don't want it to be done.
- 7:01Speaker 2: I was we finally finished it.
- 7:03Speaker 4: We took our time with it, and I think it
- 7:05Speaker 4: was kind of because of that. Knowing it was the
- 7:08Speaker 4: end they tried to get a good series ending at
- 7:11Speaker 4: the very end, it made me wonder. I didn't do
- 7:16Speaker 4: any research, sure, but it felt like they didn't know
- 7:21Speaker 4: they were going to end until the very end, you
- 7:25Speaker 4: know what I mean. It's not like they were trying
- 7:27Speaker 4: to do this big like let's wrap it up over
- 7:30Speaker 4: a bunch of episodes. It felt very abrupt, which I
- 7:37Speaker 4: didn't love that.
- 7:38Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, well so much, right, It's just like a
- 7:43Speaker 3: little bit of a bummer.
- 7:44Speaker 4: Yeah yeah, so it's still good and I love this show.
- 7:50Speaker 4: It made me laugh so much, loved all the characters.
- 7:53Speaker 4: I could have watched many more seasons. Yeah, so it
- 7:58Speaker 4: kind of bummed out because I just love that show.
- 8:01Speaker 4: I missed those those characters.
- 8:02Speaker 3: I could see that also being difficult because there's that
- 8:07Speaker 3: show was really about the situations and not the overall story.
- 8:10Speaker 3: So maybe they were just like, askrew it. I don't know,
- 8:14Speaker 3: but yeah, maybe you're right. Maybe they didn't find out
- 8:16Speaker 3: until later that they weren't going to keep going or something, and.
- 8:19Speaker 4: That's what it felt like, and then they were like
- 8:21Speaker 4: it up a little bit kind of let's try and
- 8:23Speaker 4: take this last episode and just.
- 8:26Speaker 3: Slow it at the wall. Yeah that's kind of cool.
- 8:29Speaker 3: So yeah, that's fun, but a great show. Everyone should
- 8:33Speaker 3: go check it out. If they haven't seen it.
- 8:35Speaker 4: It will be missed. What have you been streaming?
- 8:38Speaker 3: Season three of Reacher came out, or at least the
- 8:43Speaker 3: first three episodes. I think is what it?
- 8:45Speaker 2: Oh cool.
- 8:47Speaker 4: I kept going to Prime to see when it was coming.
- 8:50Speaker 4: I just it is. That's awesome.
- 8:53Speaker 3: It's back, baby, and there's even a bigger dude. Now.
- 8:58Speaker 3: They went out and they were like, oh you think
- 9:00Speaker 3: he's big, We're gonna find the biggest man on planet Earth.
- 9:04Speaker 2: Wow.
- 9:05Speaker 3: So that's fun. It's exactly what you think. It is
- 9:09Speaker 3: exactly where. Actually, I will say I felt like season
- 9:13Speaker 3: two they did it sort of a different way than
- 9:15Speaker 3: season one in that there was a lot of like
- 9:19Speaker 3: past experiences and stuff, and that was there in season one,
- 9:22Speaker 3: but not in the same way as season two. This
- 9:24Speaker 3: feels more like season one than season two, if that helps.
- 9:29Speaker 3: Both were fun, I thought, but I just I thought
- 9:31Speaker 3: I thought one was more fun because it felt like
- 9:33Speaker 3: this little like bubble of his life, whereas season two
- 9:37Speaker 3: felt a little more expansive than that or something. Okay,
- 9:41Speaker 3: but yeah, it's great. He's still a big sum bit
- 9:46Speaker 3: and he hits people and stuff. So if you don't
- 9:48Speaker 3: like violence, don't watch he hits people.
- 9:52Speaker 4: I saw that he was really bummed out Alan Richson.
- 9:56Speaker 3: Right, Yeah, yeah, yeah, sorry, I.
- 9:58Speaker 4: Saw he was really bummed doubt that about how the
- 10:02Speaker 4: fighting scenes looked last season in an interview. Yeah, and
- 10:05Speaker 4: he was going on and on about how they really
- 10:08Speaker 4: tried to like choreograph it better and get the right
- 10:12Speaker 4: cameras and all this to just to make the fighting
- 10:15Speaker 4: that much more intense in season three.
- 10:17Speaker 3: Yeah, season two felt a little more like superhero e
- 10:21Speaker 3: than like gritty like combat stuff. I guess maybe if
- 10:25Speaker 3: that makes sense. So yeah, I could see that for sure. Yeah,
- 10:30Speaker 3: and that's cool that fight choreography makes all the difference,
- 10:32Speaker 3: it seems, because Yeah, I feel like you only really
- 10:35Speaker 3: notice when it's real bad or something.
- 10:39Speaker 4: Really good, if it's you know, like crazy, if.
- 10:42Speaker 3: You don't notice, something's gone wrong, maybe something I don't know. Yeah,
- 10:48Speaker 3: I watched that.
- 10:49Speaker 4: Did you watch all three episodes?
- 10:50Speaker 3: I did? Yeah. In fact, I even went and watched
- 10:53Speaker 3: a couple episodes of season one again just for fun.
- 10:55Speaker 3: Seies and okay, man, they've actually kind of tamped hound
- 11:00Speaker 3: the violence because he was like breaking people's legs and stuff,
- 11:08Speaker 3: so it was it was intense, but it is still
- 11:11Speaker 3: very violent. Don't let me. Don't let me paint you
- 11:13Speaker 3: a picture of it not being But yeah, I think
- 11:16Speaker 3: it is very compelling. I'm super excited to see what's
- 11:19Speaker 3: going to happen with it. I'm killing pumped. I kind
- 11:21Speaker 3: of want to read these books now.
- 11:24Speaker 4: Did you never read them?
- 11:25Speaker 1: No?
- 11:25Speaker 3: I never read any of them. Reacher ones I didn't either.
- 11:29Speaker 3: I read that those gray Man ones you know that
- 11:32Speaker 3: have him continue to come out. But yeah, anyway, well
- 11:36Speaker 3: what do you think about you we do if you
- 11:37Speaker 3: plug her ins?
- 11:38Speaker 4: Let's do it.

- 12:50Speaker 4: movie we're talking about, and for this one, we decided
- 12:53Speaker 4: to do our top five musical movies based on real
- 12:56Speaker 4: events draft. There's a few, there's a few good ones.
- 13:02Speaker 3: Yeah, including including biopics was clutch for me. I needed that.
- 13:06Speaker 4: Yeah, you would have been able to do just straight
- 13:08Speaker 4: up musicals that were based on.
- 13:10Speaker 3: I forgot it first and I was like, oh no,
- 13:13Speaker 3: oh no, if I made a mistake, and I was like,
- 13:15Speaker 3: we're good, right, fifteen more now great.
- 13:18Speaker 4: Yeah, yep, so that will be fun.

- 13:33Speaker 3: with you about that. That will be fun.
- 13:35Speaker 2: It'll be fun.
- 13:36Speaker 3: We're here today to talk about a movie that is
- 13:38Speaker 3: having its Oh when did it come out? Rob sixty
- 13:42Speaker 3: sixty if Wow, that's crazy. Yeah, this is this the
- 13:45Speaker 3: oldest one we've ever done.
- 13:47Speaker 4: It's up there for sure. I think it might be nice.
- 13:52Speaker 3: Sixtieth anniversary a great little musical film called The Sound
- 13:57Speaker 3: of Music. Who and the Hill they are live with
- 14:01Speaker 3: our this movie. So let's welcome the patriarch to Rob's family,
- 14:06Speaker 3: mister von Trapp himself. Give it up for Fred.
- 14:12Speaker 4: What's up Dad?
- 14:14Speaker 2: Well? Hello, son, Hello, beer, Hey buddy, how I am great?
- 14:20Speaker 2: Fun to be with you guys again on the podcast.
- 14:24Speaker 3: Yeah, we're excited to have so happy to have you back.
- 14:27Speaker 4: We tried to have my dad on for the Young
- 14:32Speaker 4: Frankenstein episode. We were rounds out. You can't stream it anywhere.
- 14:37Speaker 4: We had no idea how to procure it, and so
- 14:41Speaker 4: I couldn't do that episode. It was a bummer.
- 14:43Speaker 2: Having only seen that movie sixty two times. Yeah, I
- 14:48Speaker 2: wouldn't have known which line to do next.
- 14:51Speaker 4: Right, Yeah, we probably get done that.
- 14:54Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 14:55Speaker 3: I have procured a copy, by the way, if we
- 14:57Speaker 3: ever do want to do it. But I feel like
- 14:58Speaker 3: we want others to be able to enjoy it.
- 15:00Speaker 4: Too, exactly.
- 15:01Speaker 3: Such a weird that's a weird one. We couldn't even
- 15:04Speaker 3: rent it or anything very strange. But this one, this
- 15:08Speaker 3: one we have.
- 15:09Speaker 4: That we do. It was on the stream platforms. Yeah,
- 15:13Speaker 4: it was at a bunch Disney and somewhere else.
- 15:16Speaker 2: I remember I watched it off of one of them,
- 15:20Speaker 2: not Disney.
- 15:21Speaker 4: But yeah, Prime, I think, Yeah, you can.
- 15:24Speaker 2: Go Sony music just about anywhere. Yeah, thank goodness that
- 15:30Speaker 2: it's an absolutely timeless gem. It really is. It is.
- 15:35Speaker 3: It's pretty great.
- 15:36Speaker 2: I love it. It's just the second movie I ever
- 15:39Speaker 2: went to the theater with my family. Oh man, that
- 15:43Speaker 2: was like a big field. This was nineteen sixty five. Yea,
- 15:48Speaker 2: Dad took us all to the Terrorist Theater.
- 15:51Speaker 4: I remember the Terrorist theater where they.
- 15:54Speaker 2: Had a crying room, they had a restaurant. I mean
- 15:59Speaker 2: it was to dress up. It was an event.
- 16:02Speaker 4: What what city was the Terrace.
- 16:05Speaker 2: In again, Robinsdale? Robbinsdale.
- 16:09Speaker 4: Oh cool, yeah, they so when I was growing up,
- 16:12Speaker 4: they had switched it to like a dollar theater pretty much.
- 16:15Speaker 2: Yeah, and put three screens. I wasn't it was one
- 16:20Speaker 2: of the biggest screens. The biggest was the Cooper and
- 16:23Speaker 2: the next biggest was the Terrorists. Yeah cool, And I
- 16:27Speaker 2: my brother was an usher at the Tarots, So when
- 16:30Speaker 2: I was a little older, my dad would drop off
- 16:33Speaker 2: and I'd get to watch the same movie four times
- 16:36Speaker 2: in a row. Oh. I would have loved that so
- 16:38Speaker 2: much that I'm the only person you know that knows
- 16:42Speaker 2: all the dialogue the movie. The Reavers was Steve McQueen.
- 16:46Speaker 2: Oh yeah, Yeah, that was fun.
- 16:49Speaker 4: That's cool. It was cool theater, like I had the
- 16:52Speaker 4: big curtains and stuff like that.
- 16:56Speaker 2: Decho inside that neat. It was beautiful.
- 17:01Speaker 3: There's not many of those left anymore, like that. Columbia
- 17:03Speaker 3: Heights one is still kind of around.
- 17:05Speaker 2: Yeah, the Heights. I just last year we went and
- 17:08Speaker 2: saw White Christmas there, the original. We saw that mat
- 17:16Speaker 2: Organist play and then the other sinks down under the
- 17:19Speaker 2: floor and that a little sing along, and we watched
- 17:23Speaker 2: the movie it was pretty fun.
- 17:25Speaker 4: That's cool.
- 17:25Speaker 3: Yeah, I can't remember what I saw there, but they
- 17:27Speaker 3: had the organists there for that too, and what a
- 17:29Speaker 3: what a fun experience that was. That was neat. I
- 17:31Speaker 3: liked that a lot.
- 17:32Speaker 2: Yeah, but you're right, there's not a ton of theaters
- 17:34Speaker 2: around like that anymore.
- 17:37Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, for sure. Well what do you say, guy,
- 17:40Speaker 3: should we just get right into it?
- 17:41Speaker 4: I think we should.
- 17:43Speaker 3: We have rob you want to hit us with that, reugh?
- 17:45Speaker 3: So here we go.
- 17:46Speaker 4: A tuneful, heartwarming story. It is based on the real
- 17:50Speaker 4: life story of the von Trapp Family Singers, one of
- 17:53Speaker 4: the world's best known concert groups in the era immediately
- 17:56Speaker 4: preceding World War Two. Julie Andrews plays the Maria, the
- 18:00Speaker 4: tomboyish postulant at an Austrian abbey who becomes a governess
- 18:06Speaker 4: in the home of a widowed naval captain with seven
- 18:09Speaker 4: children and brings a new love of life and music
- 18:13Speaker 4: into the home.
- 18:15Speaker 3: Ooh la la nice. Yeah, that's red. That's read. Let's
- 18:20Speaker 3: go to Rotten Tomadels. Hear what they have to say.
- 18:22Speaker 3: Critics have this coming in at eighty three percent, which
- 18:25Speaker 3: I was a little surprised. That's lower than I would
- 18:27Speaker 3: have seen, although.
- 18:29Speaker 2: It's pretty high stupid critics.
- 18:32Speaker 3: Yeah what, I just don't what issues do you have?
- 18:34Speaker 3: This had to be revered at the time, I would
- 18:36Speaker 3: have said, yeah.
- 18:36Speaker 2: I don't really know one yalure, come on, yeah, right,
- 18:44Speaker 2: well it's all you know.
- 18:45Speaker 3: By the time the internet came around, it was already
- 18:47Speaker 3: like fifty so you know.
- 18:49Speaker 4: Yeah, that's how it cuts.
- 18:51Speaker 3: Audience members though, have it up at ninety one percent,
- 18:54Speaker 3: so that's pretty solid. Yeah, pretty solid all around. Let's
- 18:58Speaker 3: go in and say what we think about it. It's
- 19:00Speaker 3: time for our hot take. That's a hot take.
- 19:06Speaker 4: That's a hot take.
- 19:07Speaker 3: I see the hills are alive with my hot take.
- 19:10Speaker 4: Love it.
- 19:11Speaker 3: I've already used that twice. Will it happen again? Probably,
- 19:15Speaker 3: But yeah, I'll go first on this one. This is
- 19:18Speaker 3: not a movie. I think you guys will speak on
- 19:21Speaker 3: this that you grew up watching this and stuff up.
- 19:24Speaker 3: I didn't really for some reason. I know so many
- 19:28Speaker 3: of the songs from this movie obviously, and I know
- 19:31Speaker 3: like the story and all these things. I've seen it
- 19:33Speaker 3: a number of times. It was a short period where
- 19:36Speaker 3: I thought I'd never seen it, but I definitely have
- 19:38Speaker 3: upon rewatching. But man, this movie feels even to someone
- 19:42Speaker 3: who didn't watch it a ton as a kid, it
- 19:44Speaker 3: just feels like a warm blanket and a nice like
- 19:47Speaker 3: hot chocolate or something like. It's just wonderful. I forget
- 19:50Speaker 3: what the words you said in your synopsis were, rob
- 19:53Speaker 3: but it's just like tenderhearted and lovely, warm, heartwarming. I
- 19:58Speaker 3: think that is such an accurate depiction of this movie.
- 20:01Speaker 3: Uh it is, you know, just a callback to like
- 20:05Speaker 3: you kind of said Fred, back when movies were an event.
- 20:08Speaker 3: So if it was long, that didn't you know, that
- 20:10Speaker 3: wasn't a bad thing. That was a perk, not you know,
- 20:13Speaker 3: necessarily a bad thing or anything like that. Great music
- 20:17Speaker 3: throughout it. The kids are adorable, there's some pretty fun
- 20:21Speaker 3: comedy stuff in it, and it's just pretty compelling overall.
- 20:24Speaker 3: I really, I really enjoyed this rewatch. I thought was great.
- 20:28Speaker 3: They start with a real banger with the hills are
- 20:30Speaker 3: alive like immediately, which.
- 20:33Speaker 4: Back then, you know they had to use like a
- 20:36Speaker 4: helicopter or something they weren't using like a drone totally there, yes,
- 20:40Speaker 4: and having to like sync that up and her singing
- 20:42Speaker 4: like I mean, I guess they don't do a lot
- 20:44Speaker 4: of that. It's mostly right into that first the first song.
- 20:48Speaker 3: But yeah, they did a good job though, like all,
- 20:51Speaker 3: like the dubbing and everything seems like it worked really well.
- 20:53Speaker 3: It doesn't seem super awkward or anything. It made me
- 20:57Speaker 3: think of, what was the video you guys did where
- 20:59Speaker 3: you went up in the mountains?
- 21:02Speaker 2: How great they are?
- 21:04Speaker 3: That's right, I can see it. But so fun, so cool.
- 21:11Speaker 3: The vistas are just beautiful in this movie, the Castle,
- 21:14Speaker 3: you know, all the things. But yeah, just a heartwarming,
- 21:17Speaker 3: great film that I really enjoyed. And that's kind of
- 21:20Speaker 3: my hottest hot take. Hot take. Wait, here's my hardest take. Actually,
- 21:27Speaker 3: I was trying to remember if Favorite Things was from
- 21:30Speaker 3: this or from uh Mary Poppins, And then of course
- 21:34Speaker 3: realized it was from this, and I was like, well,
- 21:36Speaker 3: the schnitzel with the noodles really should have probably tipped
- 21:39Speaker 3: me off. I mean, I love I'm with you yeah
- 21:52Speaker 3: big time. But yeah, that's my hottest take. I was like, oh, yeah,
- 21:55Speaker 3: that probably probably should have led me down the right path.
- 21:58Speaker 4: That's amazing, hot take, buddy, nice job. Yeah, I saw
- 22:02Speaker 4: this one many times growing up. I felt like it
- 22:05Speaker 4: was always onto the background at my grandpa's house, my
- 22:08Speaker 4: dad's dad yeah, I can still remember the the two
- 22:13Speaker 4: you know VHS box of it. It's number two thirty
- 22:20Speaker 4: four on the IMDb Top two fifty. It's moving down,
- 22:24Speaker 4: it's moving down.
- 22:25Speaker 3: Oh, they're still coming out with movie.
- 22:26Speaker 2: I know.
- 22:26Speaker 3: That's pretty good to all these years later to still
- 22:29Speaker 3: be up there. Yeah.
- 22:30Speaker 4: It was nominated for ten Oscars, like my dad said,
- 22:33Speaker 4: winning five. It won for Best Sound Editing, Score, Director
- 22:39Speaker 4: and Best Picture. I was directed by Robert Wise, and
- 22:44Speaker 4: it seems like he started as an editor. He edited
- 22:47Speaker 4: Citizen Kane and then started directing movies.
- 22:51Speaker 2: After that.
- 22:52Speaker 4: He did things like The Day the Earth Stood Still,
- 22:56Speaker 4: West Side Story, The Hindenburg, and one of his last
- 23:00Speaker 4: projects was the first Star Trek film I saw, damn Yeah,
- 23:05Speaker 4: so yeah, pretty big deal director. And I didn't realize
- 23:10Speaker 4: that this was based on a true story until way
- 23:13Speaker 4: later in life, and that the von Trapps were a
- 23:17Speaker 4: real music group that blew my mind insane. And apparently
- 23:22Speaker 4: there was another film before this called The Trapp Family.
- 23:25Speaker 4: It looks like it was a German film. It wasn't
- 23:28Speaker 4: like a musical. It was just kind of about their
- 23:30Speaker 4: their story. It's kind of cool. Rogers and Hammerstein wrote
- 23:34Speaker 4: the music and those guys were prolific.
- 23:37Speaker 2: Man.
- 23:37Speaker 4: They they did music for Oklahoma and Carousel and The
- 23:41Speaker 4: King and I in South Pacific, like just they wrote
- 23:44Speaker 4: a lot of music.
- 23:45Speaker 3: And this is like Hollywood and musical, like Hall of
- 23:51Speaker 3: Fame stuff, the.
- 23:54Speaker 2: Last musical they ever did together. Yeah, Christein died right
- 24:01Speaker 2: at the end of the work, right wild.
- 24:06Speaker 4: But the music in this, like like you said, I mean,
- 24:08Speaker 4: you know, every song from this, every song is a banger.
- 24:13Speaker 4: As the kids say, it's it's fantastic. And I thought
- 24:19Speaker 4: that the combination of funny and dramatic and amazing musical
- 24:22Speaker 4: numbers just made this film awesome. I had a great
- 24:26Speaker 4: time rewatching it. My hot take the we that Liesel
- 24:33Speaker 4: screams after she kisses he rough worst part of the movie.
- 24:36Speaker 4: Horrible has always been so cringey every time I've ever
- 24:40Speaker 4: seen it.
- 24:41Speaker 2: Oh the theater that's right where they had the intermission
- 24:48Speaker 2: and they had her going we and the internation. Oh god, terrible,
- 24:54Speaker 2: it is terrible.
- 24:56Speaker 4: Yeah, we used to always just make fun of it.
- 25:00Speaker 4: I remember, he comes here, She's gonna beat. Oh no,
- 25:07Speaker 4: even my.
- 25:07Speaker 2: Dad would make fun of it.
- 25:11Speaker 3: That's really great. I love that.
- 25:14Speaker 2: Dad.
- 25:14Speaker 3: Hot.
- 25:16Speaker 2: It is a I think one of the better movies.
- 25:21Speaker 2: My family loved musicals, and so this was on, like
- 25:26Speaker 2: Rob said, an awful lot at our house. Seven Brides
- 25:29Speaker 2: or Seven Brothers, Oklahoma, the music Man, but the King
- 25:35Speaker 2: of Kings in the musical realm was Sound of Music.
- 25:41Speaker 2: We saw when it came out, and we sawt a
- 25:46Speaker 2: lot after that. They played every holiday season back when
- 25:51Speaker 2: you had three channels, you know. And yeah, back in
- 25:55Speaker 2: those days they play Sound of Music and Wizard of Oz,
- 26:00Speaker 2: which you know, I love both those movies. I've been
- 26:05Speaker 2: to Salzburg a few times. It's my favorite city in Europe.
- 26:09Speaker 2: And so the monastery on the top of the hill
- 26:14Speaker 2: that you see the scenes that they shot outside of
- 26:20Speaker 2: the house, we were at that house. Robert, you probably remember,
- 26:24Speaker 2: you were a year old, you probably remember, oh yeah,
- 26:28Speaker 2: And we went up into the mountains. We were in
- 26:31Speaker 2: the church where they filmed the wedding, which was about
- 26:36Speaker 2: twenty miles from Salzburg. And the church is small, it's
- 26:44Speaker 2: about the size of a country Lutheran church, and in
- 26:48Speaker 2: the movie they make it look like she's walking four
- 26:51Speaker 2: hundred yards the trap.
- 26:55Speaker 3: That's really good.
- 26:55Speaker 2: So we're in there and my dad goes, well, this
- 26:58Speaker 2: is a lot small see them the film I go.
- 27:02Speaker 3: I couldn't spend time.
- 27:04Speaker 2: I couldn't believe that it was.
- 27:07Speaker 3: That's really cool.
- 27:08Speaker 2: But the scenery in the city is if you're ever
- 27:12Speaker 2: in Europe and you're near Munich, take a trip down
- 27:18Speaker 2: a Saltspurg you will not be disappointed. It's absolutely beautiful.
- 27:23Speaker 4: And they do sound and music tours and so they still.
- 27:27Speaker 2: Yeah, we went on the sound of music tour and
- 27:30Speaker 2: on the bus they're playing the song and my dad
- 27:33Speaker 2: is singing along, so we all start singing and yeah,
- 27:37Speaker 2: it was And they have the little glass house. It
- 27:42Speaker 2: was kind of like a gazebo where she danced.
- 27:45Speaker 5: Where where she's right in the lake No, no, but
- 27:54Speaker 5: in all the places where they're doing the do Me song.
- 28:00Speaker 4: I love that I saw when I was there. I
- 28:02Speaker 4: didn't do the whole tour, but during the Door in
- 28:05Speaker 4: Me song, they go through like those gardens and I
- 28:07Speaker 4: don't know where that is, but I've been there.
- 28:10Speaker 2: It's right in town where the fountain is and the
- 28:13Speaker 2: light right and every time I see it, I remember
- 28:17Speaker 2: being there and enjoying scene. Bat and you were in
- 28:21Speaker 2: a you were in a cuddle pack and we were
- 28:24Speaker 2: in the mountains and they had this ride kind of
- 28:27Speaker 2: like a slalomn ride that you're in a little cart
- 28:31Speaker 2: and you and I did the cool So yeah, I
- 28:35Speaker 2: love it for a lot of reasons. But the music.
- 28:39Speaker 2: I think the singing is just amazing. Yeah, I think
- 28:44Speaker 2: it holds up. Her voice is as good as anybody's
- 28:49Speaker 2: has ever been.
- 28:51Speaker 3: So yeah.
- 28:53Speaker 2: And the other surprise to me and then I'll be
- 28:56Speaker 2: done with my hot take is I love this scene
- 29:00Speaker 2: where Maria and the Reverend mother are in her office
- 29:04Speaker 2: and she's singing Climb Every Mountains. Oh yeah, the old gal,
- 29:09Speaker 2: Yeah he could sing a song. Yeah, so I find
- 29:14Speaker 2: out a very moving part of the movie. It is.
- 29:17Speaker 4: It's beautiful. It sounds like she was dubbed though that
- 29:21Speaker 4: was Peggy Wood.
- 29:22Speaker 3: Yeah, she was having some trouble. She had dubbed got
- 29:28Speaker 3: not sing live, not.
- 29:29Speaker 4: Sing live, sing live. She was having a hard time
- 29:35Speaker 4: lip syncing it. It sounded like I saw that, so.
- 29:38Speaker 3: They had to. She started like with her face away from.
- 29:41Speaker 4: The camera when she's like looking out the window. It
- 29:45Speaker 4: made it seem so well, really like she's pensive, you know,
- 29:49Speaker 4: thinking about it. But it's because she couldn't get the
- 29:52Speaker 4: beginning of the lip sync, right, so we.
- 29:56Speaker 3: Call that a creative so.
- 29:59Speaker 2: Shelly Vanilli, Yes, yes, I thought it was a poignant,
- 30:05Speaker 2: beautiful part of the movie. It is. It absolutely is.
- 30:08Speaker 4: Oh it's so beautiful at the end.
- 30:12Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, she does scream at the end. Hot take, Hot,
- 30:16Speaker 3: hot take. Let's go talk about our favorite acting performance.
- 30:20Speaker 4: Let's name the dude.
- 30:22Speaker 6: I'm the dude. So that's what you call me, you
- 30:25Speaker 6: know that? Or his dudeness or duder or you know,
- 30:31Speaker 6: eldud reno. If you're not into the whole brevity.
- 30:33Speaker 3: Thing, Dad Fred, who got who you got? For a year?
- 30:36Speaker 2: I'm never to go with Juli Andrews. I mean it's
- 30:40Speaker 2: it's like her movie, Juliandrews. There's no movie in my opinion.
- 30:49Speaker 3: Yeah, absolutely agree, clean sweep, she's one.
- 30:52Speaker 2: Yeah. Her voice is just perfect when she's gone up
- 30:56Speaker 2: the steps with the kids and hits that high note, yeah,
- 31:01Speaker 2: like holds her head down.
- 31:02Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 31:03Speaker 2: Yeah. So I thought she played being surprised and having
- 31:10Speaker 2: fun and being pensive and sad, and I mean she
- 31:15Speaker 2: she ran the gamut of emotions and did a beautiful
- 31:18Speaker 2: job of it. I think will and a lot of
- 31:21Speaker 2: times while singing for Goodness sake, So yeah, yeah.
- 31:27Speaker 3: Yeah, oh go ahead.
- 31:31Speaker 4: She was wonderful and she had to learn the guitar
- 31:35Speaker 4: for that. It wasn't like she was playing a ton,
- 31:37Speaker 4: but she she had to learn it. And yeah, I
- 31:42Speaker 4: agree with all that stuff. I think you had told
- 31:44Speaker 4: me back in the day. Dad, Now, wasn't she in
- 31:47Speaker 4: My Fair Lady? And wasn't she supposed to be in that?
- 31:51Speaker 4: But they didn't think she could pull it off, so
- 31:53Speaker 4: they gave it to Audrey Heppern.
- 31:55Speaker 2: They didn't think she was pretty enough, right, which is
- 32:00Speaker 2: they had the dumb Andre's voice.
- 32:05Speaker 3: Yeah, and My.
- 32:06Speaker 2: Fair Lady because Julie Andrews. It was a hit on
- 32:10Speaker 2: Broadway with her Julie Andrews.
- 32:13Speaker 4: Wow, yeah, yeah, I always remember you telling me that.
- 32:17Speaker 4: Then I was like the same lady who's in Sound
- 32:19Speaker 4: of Music and Mary Pops and it's like, what are
- 32:20Speaker 4: we talking about here?
- 32:22Speaker 3: This gorgeous person who sings her ass off and everything. Yeah, wow,
- 32:26Speaker 3: that's wild, even.
- 32:27Speaker 2: Though was extortion beautiful? Yeah for sure, for sure.
- 32:33Speaker 3: Uh yeah, that's great. I totally agree this could have
- 32:37Speaker 3: been it also, like that character could have just been
- 32:40Speaker 3: very one nody acting wise, not singing wise, but like
- 32:44Speaker 3: and very just like surface level, and she gave it
- 32:47Speaker 3: so much depth, like I really believed everything that was
- 32:50Speaker 3: going on. It was. It was really great.
- 32:52Speaker 4: She's she gave us some physical humor like tripping and.
- 32:56Speaker 3: Honestly, yeah, yeah, she was fun, really really great, really great.
- 33:00Speaker 2: That was an easy one.
- 33:01Speaker 3: Great pick yep, Yeah, that was easy. Let's talk about
- 33:04Speaker 3: the rest of the folks. Let's name this one will
- 33:09Speaker 3: be harder.
- 33:10Speaker 4: I feel, who's your favorite supporting actor?
- 33:14Speaker 2: Dad, mother, superior? Nice. I thought she did a beautiful
- 33:21Speaker 2: job as the Stern, you know, when she needed to
- 33:27Speaker 2: be loving, when she needed to be I don't know.
- 33:30Speaker 2: I thought she did a beautiful job of it.
- 33:34Speaker 4: She did well, and just for that climb, every mountain
- 33:36Speaker 4: scene alone, that was.
- 33:40Speaker 2: When they were talking about how do you solve the
- 33:44Speaker 2: problem like Maria is bringing them back to earth and
- 33:48Speaker 2: making a little more common sense. And I don't know,
- 33:51Speaker 2: I just thought she did a real bang up job.
- 33:55Speaker 4: She did.
- 33:56Speaker 3: Love that.
- 33:58Speaker 4: I would go with Christopher has Captain von Trapp another
- 34:04Speaker 4: voice which was dubbed. They did not use his singing voice,
- 34:08Speaker 4: which I didn't know that for a very long time.
- 34:11Speaker 4: I always thought he just had a really pretty voice.
- 34:14Speaker 4: It wasn't like an amazing voice.
- 34:17Speaker 3: Yeah, it seemed believable because it was. It was like, oh, yeah, okay,
- 34:21Speaker 3: it's a nice yeah, you sound okay.
- 34:23Speaker 4: Yeah. Yeah, it was a very pleasant voice. But I
- 34:28Speaker 4: was kind of shocked that that wasn't him. It really
- 34:31Speaker 4: fit his speaking voice.
- 34:33Speaker 3: I was pretty they did a great job matching because
- 34:37Speaker 3: I feel like, but.
- 34:38Speaker 4: I thought it was fun to see, you know how
- 34:41Speaker 4: he's such a hard ass in the beginning and then
- 34:43Speaker 4: softens up and yeah, he had some really great moments
- 34:47Speaker 4: in this movie. I thought he was really good.
- 34:52Speaker 3: I love that. Hard to pick from the kids, you know,
- 34:57Speaker 3: because they were all so good in their own way.
- 35:01Speaker 3: I did find myself drawn to that. Uh, he plays
- 35:04Speaker 3: Max Dettweiler.
- 35:05Speaker 4: Richard Hayes fun Like.
- 35:07Speaker 3: I thought he was fun in this. I thought he's
- 35:10Speaker 3: like kind of like a like overall, I think he's
- 35:13Speaker 3: a pretty good dude, but he's like kind of you know,
- 35:16Speaker 3: kind of like spivey or something, you know, like he's
- 35:20Speaker 3: kind of a jerk, a little bit of an opportunity.
- 35:23Speaker 2: He's looking out, he's looking up for the main chance.
- 35:27Speaker 2: And yes, for sure he found he founded in the kids,
- 35:31Speaker 2: of course.
- 35:32Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, but I thought he did a great job,
- 35:35Speaker 3: and I found myself liking him by the end of
- 35:38Speaker 3: it way more than you know, I maybe would have assumed,
- 35:41Speaker 3: you know, yeah at the beginning. So I liked him
- 35:44Speaker 3: a lot. But all the kids I thought did a
- 35:45Speaker 3: great job absolutely, you know, just like kind of being
- 35:49Speaker 3: their little goofball selves for the most part.
- 35:51Speaker 2: Well, it's funny because Angela cart Writing, who plays a
- 35:54Speaker 2: dark haired girl who was reading the books all the time, right, Yeah,
- 35:58Speaker 2: she was like if you're my age. Everybody had a
- 36:03Speaker 2: crush on her because of the TV show Lost in
- 36:07Speaker 2: Space about our same age. Yeah, cute and Lost in
- 36:14Speaker 2: Space You're like, oh, she's so cute. We all everybody
- 36:18Speaker 2: knew her.
- 36:20Speaker 4: Did she did? She kind of stop back then, like
- 36:23Speaker 4: she doesn't.
- 36:24Speaker 2: Stand after Lost in Space she was done.
- 36:26Speaker 3: Yeah cool, cool. I didn't really have.
- 36:32Speaker 2: Any other.
- 36:34Speaker 4: Yeah, the Baroness I always thought was she was fine.
- 36:38Speaker 3: She was pretty kind of a.
- 36:39Speaker 2: Tough role, but she was kind of brittle. Yeah.
- 36:43Speaker 4: It was fun though, when like she tells her you
- 36:46Speaker 4: know pretty much that she's got to go because he
- 36:51Speaker 4: can she can see that he's in love with her
- 36:53Speaker 4: and all that, and then that next scene when they
- 36:56Speaker 4: come back.
- 36:57Speaker 2: From the intermission.
- 36:58Speaker 4: They're like playing the game and she's just like not
- 37:02Speaker 4: good at playing at all, you know, not very motherly.
- 37:07Speaker 2: That thing called boarding school, right Max?
- 37:12Speaker 4: That one, Yeah that is great, But I thought that
- 37:15Speaker 4: was that was kind of a fun scene.
- 37:18Speaker 3: Yeah, that's really cool.
- 37:21Speaker 4: But yeah, other than that, you know, there's a there
- 37:24Speaker 4: Rolf was he was kind of okay.
- 37:27Speaker 3: Yeah. I liked the other nuns too. I mean they're
- 37:30Speaker 3: really only in that solve a problem, but then really fun. Yeah,
- 37:37Speaker 3: the scene, I was like, what a great too, like
- 37:39Speaker 3: an ensemble. That's a good one.
- 37:41Speaker 2: But the one gun was on General Hospital for fifty years.
- 37:45Speaker 2: Oh and that's my mom.
- 37:47Speaker 4: Really, it's my mom's favorite. She's watch for We.
- 37:51Speaker 3: Were days of our lives family, So I watched. I
- 37:54Speaker 3: think there's probably some crossover at someone.
- 37:55Speaker 2: When I was stationed in Japan, we got four hours
- 37:58Speaker 2: of American TV and one hour was General Hospital. I
- 38:02Speaker 2: watched it absolutely because it was American TV. I didn't
- 38:07Speaker 2: have to watch sumo wrestling all the time.
- 38:10Speaker 4: Yeah, it's not that that's not fun, right, but there's
- 38:15Speaker 4: only so much.
- 38:16Speaker 3: Yeah, even General Hospital has a little more depth than that,
- 38:20Speaker 3: you know, not a lot a lot. It's fun. Nice, Well,
- 38:28Speaker 3: should we go in and talk about some of these scenes?
- 38:29Speaker 4: Should we name the dangs like we should? Son is
- 38:33Speaker 4: quite simple, really, dingus, Dingus.
- 38:36Speaker 2: I could talk about my dingas all night long.
- 38:39Speaker 3: Nice, Fred, what's your favorite scene?
- 38:42Speaker 2: Hell at the beginning of the movie.
- 38:44Speaker 3: Nice, It's so good.
- 38:46Speaker 2: It's the opening scene. Tough to be everybody knows it.
- 38:51Speaker 2: It's absolutely stunning, and it's visual effect and it's sets
- 38:58Speaker 2: sets her. I expect, like, well, this is going to
- 39:02Speaker 2: be a musical. I want to sit back and enjoy. Yeah.
- 39:06Speaker 2: I love that. So my favorite scene.
- 39:09Speaker 4: That's a great scene. It's a It's really hard because
- 39:13Speaker 4: I love all of the music so much, not just
- 39:16Speaker 4: to pick like the song that.
- 39:19Speaker 2: I love the most or whatever.
- 39:21Speaker 4: But one scene that I always loved was after he
- 39:25Speaker 4: comes back from being with the baroness for like a month,
- 39:29Speaker 4: and she's gotten really close with the kids and they
- 39:33Speaker 4: see her like in the lake and then they fall
- 39:37Speaker 4: in and whatever, and he's super upset, pretty much fires her,
- 39:42Speaker 4: and then he can like hear singing, and he goes
- 39:48Speaker 4: up and sees that his kids are all singing the
- 39:53Speaker 4: sound of music song and then he comes in and
- 39:56Speaker 4: starts starts up.
- 40:00Speaker 2: And it's beautiful, beautiful. Yeah, I get a little choked up.
- 40:06Speaker 2: I did too. I did again this time after the
- 40:09Speaker 2: eight million viewing of it.
- 40:12Speaker 3: Yeah, no spoilers here, but that seems like a spot
- 40:14Speaker 3: I could have, oh maybe.
- 40:17Speaker 4: Choked up just talking about it.
- 40:18Speaker 2: I don't know why that scenes so much.
- 40:20Speaker 3: Yeah, that's a beautiful scene for sure. For sure because
- 40:23Speaker 3: he kind of gets out of his own way too
- 40:25Speaker 3: in that moment, which is great. And kids for a month.
- 40:30Speaker 4: Right, but all the kids like looking at him just
- 40:34Speaker 4: like whoa he can.
- 40:35Speaker 3: Like this dude?
- 40:37Speaker 2: It was really neat.
- 40:38Speaker 3: Yeah, that's really cool. I love that. Uh well, we've
- 40:43Speaker 3: for me, we've said this one a couple of times.
- 40:45Speaker 3: But how do you solve a problem like? Maria is
- 40:47Speaker 3: so fun. I had a blast watching that. I actually
- 40:50Speaker 3: watched it. I went and rewatched it again after I
- 40:53Speaker 3: finished the movie, so I was just like, man, that's
- 40:55Speaker 3: just fun. Like I love that. It feels like a
- 40:58Speaker 3: quintessential you know, musical ensembles, right, which I love, Yeah,
- 41:03Speaker 3: which would be.
- 41:05Speaker 2: So good on stage, probably because.
- 41:07Speaker 3: It's almost like gossipy, but also it is very loving
- 41:11Speaker 3: and you know all the things right, It's just super
- 41:14Speaker 3: super fun. I really love that scene a lot. I
- 41:17Speaker 3: also love the puppet show.
- 41:23Speaker 2: Yeah, because you know, seven kids who've never done it before.
- 41:28Speaker 2: It could make all those things work. As as I
- 41:32Speaker 2: got older, I went and I tried one of those
- 41:36Speaker 2: ye like I can barely drag it across the floor
- 41:40Speaker 2: right like a wounded soldier but playing an instrument. Their
- 41:45Speaker 2: eyes moving.
- 41:47Speaker 3: They're doing like pure wet the same thing.
- 41:52Speaker 2: Oh yeah, we did that all the time with Rob
- 41:55Speaker 2: when we were young. So fun, it's good, a great scene.
- 42:01Speaker 4: Well, they're all having so much fun. This is when
- 42:04Speaker 4: they've really gotten into you know, singing and performing for
- 42:08Speaker 4: their dad now that he's cool with it.
- 42:10Speaker 2: And yeah, that was you know, another scene. I it
- 42:14Speaker 2: wasn't my favorite scene, but it was a highlights when
- 42:18Speaker 2: they're in the horse cart through the central part of
- 42:22Speaker 2: Salzburg singing just doray me. Oh I love the each
- 42:28Speaker 2: kid sings their notes, you know. Yeah, yeah, that's a
- 42:33Speaker 2: fun scene.
- 42:35Speaker 4: The whole thing is beautiful, and it's all different places,
- 42:38Speaker 4: like you know, it's.
- 42:39Speaker 2: Oh yeah, probably shows you Saltzburg.
- 42:41Speaker 4: Probably took two or three weeks to film that one
- 42:44Speaker 4: scene because they were all those different places.
- 42:46Speaker 2: They had to film an extra year because of the
- 42:51Speaker 2: front of the house was a different house than the
- 42:53Speaker 2: back of the house.
- 42:54Speaker 3: Wow, yeah, I didn't crazy.
- 42:57Speaker 2: They didn't say that on the tour.
- 43:02Speaker 3: Oh yeah, I love that scene. Yeah, it's so fun
- 43:05Speaker 3: that song, the singing stuff, I mean, it's also.
- 43:08Speaker 4: I mean we've all sung that song a million times
- 43:11Speaker 4: or just you know, lute in the soul fege and
- 43:14Speaker 4: all that. I always loved my favorite things. I always
- 43:17Speaker 4: thought that's just such a classic sens I love that
- 43:22Speaker 4: everybody's done it. It's on Christmas albums all the time,
- 43:26Speaker 4: and it's such a good They call back to that
- 43:29Speaker 4: so well, you know, multiple times throughout, which is really fun.
- 43:32Speaker 3: Yeah, I like that a lot.
- 43:33Speaker 4: Yeah, it's really hard to pick a favorite. And then
- 43:36Speaker 4: you have the you know, the end festival where they're
- 43:39Speaker 4: performing and then he does Adelweiss and he can't get
- 43:44Speaker 4: through it, and so then they all back him up.
- 43:47Speaker 3: Has everyone saying we have this like art as a
- 43:51Speaker 3: you know, stop gap against fascism, which is so great
- 43:55Speaker 3: and wonder Yeah, I love that.
- 43:58Speaker 2: Interesting thing is that song was not an Austrian folks so, yeah,
- 44:05Speaker 2: Hammerstein wrote it and they had to teach the actors
- 44:08Speaker 2: who are in the audience how to sing it because
- 44:11Speaker 2: they had never heard Adelweiss before. I found that really
- 44:16Speaker 2: interesting because I what a beautiful song. And on our
- 44:21Speaker 2: tour bus when we were all there, the tour driver
- 44:24Speaker 2: goes and adel Weiss is not the Ostrian national anthem, right,
- 44:30Speaker 2: he was kind of dinky about it.
- 44:33Speaker 3: Yeah, that's interesting.
- 44:37Speaker 4: Yeah it should be though. It's a beautiful song, what
- 44:40Speaker 4: a beautiful melody.
- 44:41Speaker 2: It is a beautiful song.
- 44:43Speaker 3: No, I mean, all these tunes in this are really good,
- 44:46Speaker 3: sixteen going on seventeen. But I didn't really admittedly didn't
- 44:50Speaker 3: love that scene if I'm honest, Like that storyline doesn't
- 44:53Speaker 3: do a lot for me.
- 44:54Speaker 2: But I don't know, leading her like a horse around
- 44:59Speaker 2: the inside of the thing that's like a train horse.
- 45:05Speaker 2: It would not go today. That's just.
- 45:09Speaker 3: And I guess that whole like, that whole storyline led
- 45:13Speaker 3: us to see the kid at the end, right, who
- 45:15Speaker 3: is now like bought into the whole Nazi thing. So
- 45:18Speaker 3: it's worth it for that, I suppose, you know. And
- 45:21Speaker 3: I enjoyed it, It's just not as fun as the
- 45:23Speaker 3: rest of it to me. Anyway.
- 45:25Speaker 2: I went to there. They have a resort in Stowe, Vermont,
- 45:30Speaker 2: and I actually went there to see it. We had
- 45:34Speaker 2: lunch there. Back when I worked at a company out
- 45:38Speaker 2: of New Hampshire, we had a lot of stuff in Vermont,
- 45:41Speaker 2: and yeah, I went up to Stowe, not in the winter.
- 45:44Speaker 2: I didn't go during skied time, but they had a
- 45:47Speaker 2: small ski resort that they bought when they emigrated.
- 45:51Speaker 3: You're talking about the traps themselves.
- 45:56Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, they up in America.
- 46:01Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 46:02Speaker 2: I walked through the mountains and they ended up someone Vermont.
- 46:05Speaker 2: It was a long, long walk.
- 46:08Speaker 3: Yeah, that's quite the trek.
- 46:11Speaker 4: That's funny.
- 46:12Speaker 3: The mountains were bigger then, you know, connected Land.
- 46:16Speaker 4: Yeah it was. It was still Pangaea at that time, right,
- 46:18Speaker 4: So it was fine.
- 46:20Speaker 3: Absolutely, Yeah, we're good. Excellent reference to Panga. Good work,
- 46:23Speaker 3: good work.
- 46:25Speaker 4: In this episode. We put pange in in every episode.
- 46:28Speaker 4: So we got that one out.
- 46:29Speaker 2: Of the way.
- 46:30Speaker 3: I want to start doing that, I'll tell you that much.
- 46:34Speaker 3: I'll never remember that we said that, but I think
- 46:36Speaker 3: it's fun.
- 46:38Speaker 4: Yeah. So yeah, can we pick one. It's impossible, I think.
- 46:46Speaker 3: From the first scene to the last scene.
- 46:48Speaker 4: Yeah, man, I'd be fine picking that opening. The hills
- 46:52Speaker 4: are alive, even just the filmmaking from the very beginning.
- 46:55Speaker 3: Like Yeah, I'm totally with you, because that was not
- 46:59Speaker 3: an easy shot. Yeah, I'm sure, sure, Yeah, I'm fine
- 47:03Speaker 3: with that. I'm totally fine with that for sure.
- 47:05Speaker 4: Let's do it. Then, why don't we choose some of
- 47:09Speaker 4: these quotes. Let's do. Show me the money, show me
- 47:12Speaker 4: the money, show me. What are some of your favorite
- 47:21Speaker 4: quotes in this?
- 47:22Speaker 2: Dad, you're telling me my children were running about Sulkesburg
- 47:28Speaker 2: and play clothes, and Julie Andrews says yes and having
- 47:33Speaker 2: a wonderful time, and that whole argument. It's not just
- 47:38Speaker 2: one line, right, And he's getting madder and madder, and
- 47:44Speaker 2: she's arguing and talking over him, and she goes, that
- 47:48Speaker 2: is enough from you, captain. He calls her cat and
- 47:52Speaker 2: then they both have a lot, you know, But that
- 47:56Speaker 2: whole string of lines are phenomenal to me.
- 47:59Speaker 4: Yeah, I love that.
- 48:01Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 48:02Speaker 2: My other she my other favorite short one, The two
- 48:06Speaker 2: nuns the Nazis can't get the cars, Yes, dude, and
- 48:10Speaker 2: she goes, Reverend mother, we've sinned. And they open their
- 48:15Speaker 2: cloaks and they've got like distributor caps and white hears
- 48:19Speaker 2: and all this stuff, and that was the sin. I
- 48:23Speaker 2: love that one.
- 48:24Speaker 3: That was really really good yeah, I love that for sure,
- 48:27Speaker 3: for sure.
- 48:30Speaker 2: I love that.
- 48:30Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 48:31Speaker 4: I didn't have a ton either, just because I'm.
- 48:34Speaker 2: Not going to all the songs.
- 48:36Speaker 3: But yeah, right, it's always hard songs.
- 48:38Speaker 2: It is.
- 48:40Speaker 4: What happened to your finger? It got caught caught in
- 48:43Speaker 4: what Friedrich's teeth?
- 48:46Speaker 3: It's such a great line.
- 48:48Speaker 2: I like sing my finger hurts. Yeah, it was so cute.
- 48:52Speaker 3: She was cute, so cute, little Gretel, Yeah, Gretel.
- 48:59Speaker 4: When Maria is saying her prayers, I just thought it
- 49:01Speaker 4: was cute. She's like, I forgot the other boy. Oh
- 49:03Speaker 4: what's his name? Oh? Well, god, bless, what's his name?
- 49:06Speaker 4: I thought it was fun. When she meets Captain von
- 49:12Speaker 4: Trapp and he's pretty much like, you gotta wear something better,
- 49:17Speaker 4: and she's like, but I don't have another one. When
- 49:19Speaker 4: we entered the abbey, our worldly clothes were given to
- 49:21Speaker 4: the poor, he said, what about this one? The poor
- 49:24Speaker 4: didn't want this one?
- 49:26Speaker 2: I remember, didn't want good line.
- 49:29Speaker 4: It is pretty good and a little kurt. At one point,
- 49:34Speaker 4: he says only grown up men are scared of women.
- 49:37Speaker 2: Which I thought was a very good line.
- 49:39Speaker 4: Yeah, it's super good, pretty fun, But why don't you
- 49:43Speaker 4: say some views uh.
- 49:46Speaker 3: Man, she's always late for everything except for every meal.
- 49:50Speaker 3: I know we said the songs, but when they sing that,
- 49:52Speaker 3: I just was like, yeah, classic, classic, love it the
- 49:58Speaker 3: little girl. Is it Gretel or Gretel Gretel? Remember, I'm
- 50:03Speaker 3: pretty sure it's Gretel. When she's like, why am I
- 50:05Speaker 3: always last, it's like, because you're the most important, and
- 50:09Speaker 3: she goes, oh, it's like the cutest response back. I
- 50:13Speaker 3: just loved that, Like what a silly little thing. And
- 50:16Speaker 3: also I think it's heard that says maybe the flag
- 50:19Speaker 3: with the black spider on it makes people nervous, and
- 50:22Speaker 3: I just I love that, like from through the eyes
- 50:25Speaker 3: of you know, babes kind of stuff, It's really fun.
- 50:28Speaker 3: But that was a great line. I'm Kurt, I'm eleven,
- 50:33Speaker 3: I'm encouragable. Yeah, I just love Kurt. I feel like
- 50:40Speaker 3: I would have played Kurt if I was ever inside
- 50:42Speaker 3: of music as a kid, although he wasn't a very
- 50:45Speaker 3: portly child, but you know, encourageable. I'm not a wartime baby, clearly,
- 50:53Speaker 3: I'm a baby of peace and yes, lots of nerve.
- 51:00Speaker 4: Indeed, not a wartime Maybe it's good.
- 51:07Speaker 3: And then I always love the oh oh, She's like
- 51:10Speaker 3: how did you get in here? When she crawls up
- 51:13Speaker 3: like the what is your crawl up?
- 51:14Speaker 2: Oh?
- 51:14Speaker 3: Yeah yeah, and she's like, oh how we always get
- 51:20Speaker 3: in here to play tricks on the Governess Louisa can
- 51:23Speaker 3: make up with the whole old jars spiders in her hand.
- 51:26Speaker 3: Julie Henders is just like what it's just the best.
- 51:30Speaker 3: I love that line.
- 51:32Speaker 2: I like when Gretel they're hiding in the cemetery at
- 51:35Speaker 2: the monasterium, she goes, should we sing about her favorite things? Yeah?
- 51:45Speaker 2: Now we need to be quiet. Yeah that was cute.
- 51:53Speaker 4: Oh.
- 51:54Speaker 3: I also loved I think he's talking to it's the
- 51:57Speaker 3: captain talking to the one of the guys. Yeah, and
- 52:02Speaker 3: he's like, you flatter me, captain. He's like, oh, how
- 52:04Speaker 3: clumsy of me. I meant to accuse you, right. I
- 52:07Speaker 3: love that line. I thought that was really m hm
- 52:09Speaker 3: because you finally see him kind of being like, no,
- 52:11Speaker 3: screw off, you know, get out of here, which I
- 52:13Speaker 3: thought was really fun.
- 52:17Speaker 4: Yeah, that was a good life. Yeah, not a ton
- 52:20Speaker 4: of quotes for me either, but I think those were good.
- 52:25Speaker 4: Why don't we move too moments.
- 52:29Speaker 2: The Crying Game strong Men also cry strong Men?
- 52:36Speaker 4: Also, I picked six I think there might be more,
- 52:42Speaker 4: but this is where I got a little of bit clempt,
- 52:44Speaker 4: I think. So let's start it off here the first
- 52:47Speaker 4: one when Captain von Trapp is going to fire Maria.
- 52:50Speaker 4: But then here's the singing and then ultimately start singing
- 52:53Speaker 4: with them. So my scene, yes, absolutely, when Gretel sings.
- 52:58Speaker 3: The sun has gone too bad and so must I.
- 53:04Speaker 3: I should have said that for a favorite scene. I
- 53:06Speaker 3: love that song so much, and their little whole thing
- 53:09Speaker 3: with that is so cute.
- 53:10Speaker 2: Yeah, she's so cute.
- 53:12Speaker 3: She's just the cutest.
- 53:14Speaker 2: We did it on ted Lasso. Yes, that's right, guys
- 53:19Speaker 2: singing the song. That's right. Talk about hitting the cultural
- 53:25Speaker 2: divide there, that's good.
- 53:27Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 53:28Speaker 3: Absolutely.
- 53:29Speaker 4: I picked that scene that my dad brought up when
- 53:32Speaker 4: the mother is singing climb every mountain at the end
- 53:36Speaker 4: absolutely the end of that scene. Yeah, that when he
- 53:41Speaker 4: tells Maria the wedding is off because you can't marry
- 53:43Speaker 4: someone when you're in love with someone else.
- 53:46Speaker 2: Mm hmmmm.
- 53:47Speaker 4: And then they do I must have done something good song,
- 53:51Speaker 4: which is another awesome song. Yep, when you singing Atavice
- 53:55Speaker 4: at the festival starts to get choked up and his
- 53:57Speaker 4: family backs him up. Absolutely, And when they've escaped in
- 54:02Speaker 4: the mountains with climb every mountain in the background, Yeah,
- 54:07Speaker 4: for sure. Were there any more?
- 54:10Speaker 2: Booze?
- 54:12Speaker 6: Uh?
- 54:13Speaker 2: There was one more more?
- 54:20Speaker 4: What do you think?
- 54:21Speaker 3: Yeah? What do you got?
- 54:23Speaker 2: When they're in the when Julie Andrews and the captain
- 54:27Speaker 2: are in the gazebo and he said, who should we
- 54:31Speaker 2: Is there somebody I should ask? It's right, and they
- 54:36Speaker 2: got it, and the children we should ask the children.
- 54:40Speaker 3: I'm like, oh yeah, I like, yeah, yeah, I love
- 54:51Speaker 3: that moment. There's also one and I don't know if
- 54:54Speaker 3: it was part I don't know this movie as well
- 54:56Speaker 3: as you guys, so y'all have to help me. There's
- 54:57Speaker 3: a sad version of favorite Things that we hear just
- 55:00Speaker 3: for a moment right before she returns that I really
- 55:03Speaker 3: liked too.
- 55:06Speaker 2: But I tried to sing to make themselves feel better
- 55:09Speaker 2: after that it is sorry yeah, yeah.
- 55:20Speaker 4: Yeah, And he's like, no, come on sing sing, and
- 55:23Speaker 4: then they do that.
- 55:24Speaker 2: It's not great.
- 55:26Speaker 3: Yeah that's right. I loved that. But yeah, you guys
- 55:28Speaker 3: nailed it. Good work, nice, good work. Don't know how
- 55:31Speaker 3: many was that, Rob, I didn't even seven? Pretty reasonable,
- 55:35Speaker 3: pretty reasonable, let's go and do a little movie trivia here.
- 55:41Speaker 3: Christopher Plummer accidentally said the word captain to Julie Andrews
- 55:44Speaker 3: during the argument scene, like you said, Fred, And this
- 55:48Speaker 3: was just a pure accident. But despite the air, they
- 55:50Speaker 3: all liked it so much and thought it was funny,
- 55:52Speaker 3: so they kept it in the movie.
- 55:54Speaker 4: Was fun Yeah, it seemed like it was part of
- 55:56Speaker 4: the script. It was great.
- 55:58Speaker 3: Yeah. Uh. Christopher Plummer intensely disliked working on this movie.
- 56:03Speaker 3: Apparently he was known to refer to it as the
- 56:07Speaker 3: sound of mucus. But he likened working with Dame Julie
- 56:13Speaker 3: Andrews to being hit over the head with a big
- 56:16Speaker 3: Valentine's Stake card every day, which sounds bad, I guess.
- 56:21Speaker 3: But nonetheless, they actually remained close friends until his death.
- 56:25Speaker 3: And Andrew Andrews claimed that plumber cynicism probably helped his
- 56:29Speaker 3: performance and you know, kept the movie from being too sentimental.
- 56:33Speaker 3: But what a bummer that he didn't just get to enjoy. Yeah,
- 56:37Speaker 3: it's a fall on it, but it's cool that they
- 56:39Speaker 3: were still friends.
- 56:41Speaker 2: You thought it would hurt his standing as apium stage actor.
- 56:48Speaker 2: I guess. Yeah.
- 56:50Speaker 4: I think it was probably like the equivalent of like
- 56:53Speaker 4: dramatic actors doing rom coms or something.
- 56:55Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, that's yeah. I suppose that makes sense. He did.
- 56:58Speaker 3: He does, like there was a few things about later.
- 57:02Speaker 3: He would you know, pretty much immediately and then definitely
- 57:04Speaker 3: later was just like, she's amazing, she's really great, like it.
- 57:09Speaker 3: It had everything to do with me being curmudgeonly and
- 57:11Speaker 3: not with her not being pleasant to work with, you know,
- 57:14Speaker 3: which I thought was cool. So that was nice. I
- 57:17Speaker 3: thought this was pretty wild. So Mary Poppins hadn't been
- 57:22Speaker 3: released yet at the time when they were filming this,
- 57:25Speaker 3: and so she sang super calu ragilistic, expialidocious to the
- 57:29Speaker 3: kids between shooting, and they all thought that she just
- 57:34Speaker 3: like made it up on the spot, which I really wonderful.
- 57:39Speaker 3: I just think the kids must have been like, oh
- 57:41Speaker 3: my god, she's a genius. Thought that was really fun.
- 57:47Speaker 3: And also imagine having her sing that to you, like, oh,
- 57:52Speaker 3: you know you hardly insane? Yeah, yeah, insane. So very
- 58:00Speaker 3: little background information on the real Captain von Trapp is known,
- 58:04Speaker 3: or was known or available to Christopher Plumber, so he
- 58:08Speaker 3: took to the Salzburg Mountains with an interpreter and there
- 58:12Speaker 3: they met George's nephew and asked him what the real
- 58:15Speaker 3: man was like, and the nephew told him he was
- 58:17Speaker 3: the most boring man he'd ever met. Nice, so, you know,
- 58:23Speaker 3: they had to take some take some chances, let's see.
- 58:29Speaker 3: For his research for the movie, William Wyler met with
- 58:32Speaker 3: the real Maria von Trapp and the mayor of Salzburg,
- 58:36Speaker 3: and Wyler was concerned that the local residents would be alarmed,
- 58:41Speaker 3: you know, seeing the Nazi flags and things, and then
- 58:44Speaker 3: all the stormtroopers on the streets because they had it
- 58:47Speaker 3: was only twenty five years after the real thing had
- 58:49Speaker 3: taken place in their town. The mayor assured him that
- 58:54Speaker 3: the residents had managed to live through it, you know,
- 58:57Speaker 3: the first time, so they'd survived again. But other folks
- 59:01Speaker 3: were more resistant to decorating it this way, and the
- 59:05Speaker 3: filmmakers they decided to use newsreel footage instead. So those
- 59:10Speaker 3: all those are actual, like from back in the day,
- 59:13Speaker 3: the actual occupation news footage of the town. And they
- 59:19Speaker 3: later commented this footage was actually like almost more incriminating,
- 59:23Speaker 3: as it shows the Salzburg people being openly, you know,
- 59:28Speaker 3: welcoming to Nazis and something that the proposed scenes wouldn't
- 59:32Speaker 3: have done. Obviously, there's a lot of nuance to that.
- 59:36Speaker 3: But I just thought that was really interesting that they
- 59:38Speaker 3: used old footage that they already had for all that.
- 59:40Speaker 3: It's pretty wild.
- 59:41Speaker 4: That was crazy.
- 59:42Speaker 3: Yeah, I thought that was a neat little piece. Let's
- 59:45Speaker 3: see the day after the von Trapp family left Austria,
- 59:50Speaker 3: which they didn't. They didn't actually trek over the mountains.
- 59:53Speaker 3: They just took a train to Italy and then eventually
- 59:57Speaker 3: ended up in London, I believe. But the day after
- 1:00:00Speaker 3: they left, Adolf Hitler ordered the borders of Austria to
- 1:00:03Speaker 3: be shot, so they like barely made it out, which
- 1:00:06Speaker 3: is pretty wild. The real Maria von Trapp claimed that
- 1:00:12Speaker 3: this movie toned down her behavior during her stay at
- 1:00:15Speaker 3: the abbey. When asked in an interview if she was
- 1:00:18Speaker 3: really that bad, she joked that she was probably worse,
- 1:00:21Speaker 3: which I thought was pretty funny. So she was a
- 1:00:24Speaker 3: bit of a helly and apparently fun Uh. You know,
- 1:00:29Speaker 3: those sisters, they get they get wild out here. Rob
- 1:00:35Speaker 3: After the von Trapps fled Austria, their home was taken
- 1:00:38Speaker 3: over by Heiner Kimmler. That's one of the key players
- 1:00:40Speaker 3: of the Nazi Party, which is pretty wild, and apparently
- 1:00:44Speaker 3: they had like parties and meetings there quite a few times,
- 1:00:47Speaker 3: and Adolf Hitler himself personally visited Himmler there several times
- 1:00:52Speaker 3: over the rest of the war in his life. So
- 1:00:54Speaker 3: because it was pretty wild, let's see what else we
- 1:00:59Speaker 3: got here. Oh, when Maria and the Captain are at
- 1:01:02Speaker 3: the gazebo, apparently Julie Andrews couldn't stop laughing due to
- 1:01:08Speaker 3: the powerful overhead carbon arc cleag lights that were apparently
- 1:01:14Speaker 3: making what they so lovingly call a raspberry sound every
- 1:01:18Speaker 3: time she leaned into kiss. So there was just little
- 1:01:21Speaker 3: like fart noises every time she was leaning in.
- 1:01:24Speaker 4: So hilarious.
- 1:01:25Speaker 3: That pretty normal, It happens to me more than I
- 1:01:30Speaker 3: care to admit. But after over twenty takes they altered
- 1:01:38Speaker 3: it to be the silhouette of those two to hide
- 1:01:40Speaker 3: her giggles, which doesn't really keeping fun. And let's see, oh,
- 1:01:48Speaker 3: in the closing shot when the family is climbing over
- 1:01:50Speaker 3: the hills to safety, it's not the real Kim carath
- 1:01:55Speaker 3: As Gretel on the shoulders of Captain von Trapp. I
- 1:01:59Speaker 3: guess in the DVD version it's reviewed there, it's revealed
- 1:02:02Speaker 3: that wall in Austria. The kid, you know, if they
- 1:02:06Speaker 3: were there for over a year. It sounded like the
- 1:02:08Speaker 3: kid had grown up quite a lot and just had
- 1:02:10Speaker 3: gained a lot of weight as a part of that.
- 1:02:13Speaker 3: And so Christopher Plumber had not a great back. He
- 1:02:17Speaker 3: had some back injury stuff, so he requested to have
- 1:02:20Speaker 3: someone else. So that's actually a stunt double who's being
- 1:02:23Speaker 3: carried on his back in that scene and not the actor.
- 1:02:26Speaker 3: That's really funny. I like that and makes sense. Those
- 1:02:29Speaker 3: kids can get big over a year or two. Given
- 1:02:31Speaker 3: me a big difference. So yeah, that was the last
- 1:02:35Speaker 3: trivia that I had.
- 1:02:37Speaker 2: There's a lot they had. Of course, you take dramatic
- 1:02:43Speaker 2: license when you make a movie, right. They had two
- 1:02:47Speaker 2: of their own kids, and Maria was pregnant when they
- 1:02:50Speaker 2: left Austria. Oh okay, they left luckily before the amschlues
- 1:02:57Speaker 2: and he was able to get all his money out
- 1:02:59Speaker 2: of Austria when they ended up in the States after
- 1:03:06Speaker 2: the war. But yeah, it was It was interesting to
- 1:03:14Speaker 2: hear who had audition for some of these roles. The
- 1:03:20Speaker 2: Captain Sean Connery, Richard Burton being Crosby was being considered.
- 1:03:30Speaker 4: I would love to hearing him sing Alwis for sure.
- 1:03:33Speaker 2: To anything anything. Me and Pharaoh and Sharon Tate auditioned
- 1:03:41Speaker 2: for Leaesel and Kurt Russell and Richard Dreyfus auditioned to
- 1:03:47Speaker 2: be one of the van von Trapp kids. Yep, can
- 1:03:52Speaker 2: you believe?
- 1:03:52Speaker 4: You know?
- 1:03:53Speaker 2: These they're great actors.
- 1:03:55Speaker 3: That we know now, Yeah, that's pretty well.
- 1:03:58Speaker 2: And the reason it took so long to the opening
- 1:04:01Speaker 2: scene is the helicopter kept knocking Julie Andrews down into
- 1:04:06Speaker 2: the mud. Oh no, because they, like Rob said at
- 1:04:11Speaker 2: the onset, they didn't have drones or being enough to
- 1:04:17Speaker 2: but wow, what a beautifully dramatic scene. It was. Grittel
- 1:04:23Speaker 2: nearly drowned in the canoes scene. I saw that.
- 1:04:27Speaker 3: Oh no, I didn't miss that much.
- 1:04:29Speaker 4: She couldn't swim and.
- 1:04:32Speaker 2: Uh they luckily they got her and she didn't drown.
- 1:04:38Speaker 2: The Van Trapps made no money from the movie nothing.
- 1:04:42Speaker 4: That's crazy.
- 1:04:44Speaker 3: That's why and.
- 1:04:45Speaker 2: Sold the rights to it to that German thing that
- 1:04:48Speaker 2: MUDs had brought up, and that's why they never made
- 1:04:52Speaker 2: a penny from Wow. However, they got a lot of
- 1:05:00Speaker 2: bookings for the von Trapp family singers. Bet As I
- 1:05:04Speaker 2: saw the von Trapp grandchildren had a group that sings
- 1:05:11Speaker 2: at the at their Stove Mount resort. Cool and probably
- 1:05:18Speaker 2: all have voices like me, No one wants to go
- 1:05:21Speaker 2: hear them put the record on. My God. When I
- 1:05:29Speaker 2: was a kid, I saw Maria von Trapp on her
- 1:05:32Speaker 2: show with Julie Andrews. It was one of those It
- 1:05:36Speaker 2: wasn't quite a talk show, and it wasn't just like
- 1:05:39Speaker 2: the Dean Martin show Boy, and it was a long
- 1:05:43Speaker 2: time ago. It was in the sixties.
- 1:05:45Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:05:46Speaker 2: Wow, And Marie von Trapp and Julie Andrews sang together.
- 1:05:52Speaker 2: So anyway, Oh that's all I got.
- 1:05:55Speaker 4: Nice. Yeah, you hit most of the stuff I saw.
- 1:05:59Speaker 4: I did see. When the movie was first released on
- 1:06:01Speaker 4: home video, it stayed on the charts for over two
- 1:06:03Speaker 4: hundred and fifty weeks, almost five years.
- 1:06:06Speaker 3: Yeah, it's crazy.
- 1:06:08Speaker 4: So it did pretty well. And like you had said,
- 1:06:12Speaker 4: Plumber didn't love this the shooting of this, and he
- 1:06:15Speaker 4: admitted on the DVD commentary that he was drunk during
- 1:06:19Speaker 4: the shooting of the music Festival sequence at the end.
- 1:06:24Speaker 3: Wow, he did a really good job.
- 1:06:26Speaker 4: Yeah, right, And I.
- 1:06:30Speaker 2: Say it to you.
- 1:06:31Speaker 4: It's one of only four productions to win Best Musical
- 1:06:35Speaker 4: Best Play Tony and the Best Picture Oscar So the
- 1:06:40Speaker 4: others were My Fair Lady, A Man for All Seasons
- 1:06:43Speaker 4: in Amadeus.
- 1:06:46Speaker 2: Man for All Seasons remind me?
- 1:06:49Speaker 4: But I don't know what not a clue? A Man
- 1:06:55Speaker 4: for all Seasons. It looks like the play was sixty two,
- 1:06:59Speaker 4: the film was sixty six. Okay, it might.
- 1:07:02Speaker 3: It looks like it might be Henry the Eighth ish
- 1:07:07Speaker 3: getting there, Getting there, historical drama. I don't know. I
- 1:07:14Speaker 3: guess there's too many words here. Yeah, it's during the
- 1:07:19Speaker 3: during the reign of Henry.
- 1:07:20Speaker 2: The Eighth got thank you.
- 1:07:23Speaker 3: Yeah, I've never even heard of that one. I feel like.
- 1:07:27Speaker 4: Robert Shaw, John Hurt, Paul Feld some big probably.
- 1:07:34Speaker 2: I love that guy.
- 1:07:36Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, absolutely.
- 1:07:41Speaker 4: Sweet. Well, will there be a sequel Judgment Day? Probably?
- 1:07:46Speaker 2: The Hills have passed on, most most have passed on.
- 1:07:51Speaker 3: It is the Hills have eyes? Is that a direct
- 1:07:53Speaker 3: or more of a spiritual sequel? What's happening?
- 1:07:57Speaker 2: Then they've then remakes? Obviously there'll be no sequel. Yeah,
- 1:08:03Speaker 2: I mean, Plumber's gone, Juliet can't sing anymore, the kids
- 1:08:09Speaker 2: are gone, two of the kids are gone.
- 1:08:13Speaker 3: I could see him wanting to remake it again. But
- 1:08:16Speaker 3: also like this still holds up so well? Why? I mean, yeah,
- 1:08:20Speaker 3: the remade.
- 1:08:21Speaker 2: Him with Carrie Underwood as Mariah.
- 1:08:25Speaker 4: Like a television one.
- 1:08:26Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:08:27Speaker 2: Yeah, it was. Yeah, sad to see I turned it off.
- 1:08:34Speaker 3: Have you seen like a stage version of this? Fred
- 1:08:36Speaker 3: or Rob? Have either of you have?
- 1:08:38Speaker 2: Not? No?
- 1:08:39Speaker 3: I bet it'd be great.
- 1:08:40Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm sure it is be really fun. You'd have
- 1:08:44Speaker 4: to have a bunch of talented kids, for sure.
- 1:08:45Speaker 2: And I've been to so many bad high school musicals
- 1:08:50Speaker 2: and college productions you think I would have. Indeed, indeed
- 1:08:56Speaker 2: there two years Rob, you guys could have pulled that off.
- 1:08:59Speaker 2: You had some good Yeah, we did.
- 1:09:01Speaker 4: We did. We went and did an Operetta my senior year,
- 1:09:04Speaker 4: which is pretty Si Mecado.
- 1:09:07Speaker 3: When you did that one, it like.
- 1:09:09Speaker 4: Yeah, that's it's pretty crazy for high school looking back on.
- 1:09:13Speaker 3: Yeah, we did our little talented Pirates of Penzance.
- 1:09:18Speaker 4: Yes, yeah, Gilbert and Sullivan, man, that's that's tough stuff.
- 1:09:23Speaker 3: Do you ever tell you about that? Like two weeks
- 1:09:24Speaker 3: before the show, the major general dropped out, and so
- 1:09:28Speaker 3: they were like, do you want to do it? And
- 1:09:29Speaker 3: I did it as like a seventeen year old.
- 1:09:32Speaker 2: That's insane.
- 1:09:33Speaker 3: It was pretty wild. I don't know if I was good,
- 1:09:35Speaker 3: but I had fun.
- 1:09:36Speaker 2: Oh I would have been, I said I was. When
- 1:09:39Speaker 2: I was in high school, I was tapped to be
- 1:09:41Speaker 2: Santa Claus every every I don't know why. Typecast.
- 1:09:47Speaker 4: Yeah, rude, rude, mean, Well, do you guys want to
- 1:09:52Speaker 4: play a game?
- 1:09:54Speaker 3: Oh?
- 1:09:54Speaker 4: Yeah, I made a starting five for you guys, And
- 1:09:59Speaker 4: so I'm going to name my five favorite actors from
- 1:10:01Speaker 4: a film. When you know the film, you're going to
- 1:10:03Speaker 4: ring in with your name. If you get it wrong,
- 1:10:05Speaker 4: there's no negative points, but you won't be able to
- 1:10:07Speaker 4: guess again for that movie. If there are actors' names remaining,
- 1:10:11Speaker 4: you can guess those for a point each. The other
- 1:10:14Speaker 4: person can steal if you get any of those names wrong.
- 1:10:18Speaker 4: And all these films have something in common. When you
- 1:10:20Speaker 4: know the theme, you can ring in at any time
- 1:10:23Speaker 4: for a point read read that entire thing over all? Right,
- 1:10:27Speaker 4: So all right, were good? Yeah, all right? Number one,
- 1:10:40Speaker 4: The first name is Richard Dreyfus.

- 1:10:53Speaker 4: You get to listen now, Richard Dreyfus, You can't you
- 1:10:59Speaker 4: can't ring in. He guessed the Goodbye Girl.
- 1:11:03Speaker 3: Oh I don't know what that is. Okay, Richard Dreyfus.
- 1:11:05Speaker 4: Yep, so we have Richard Dreyfus. You can't guess again
- 1:11:08Speaker 4: for this movie. Dad.
- 1:11:10Speaker 2: Uh.
- 1:11:10Speaker 4: The second name is Jerry O'Connell.
- 1:11:15Speaker 3: Okay, oh uh, Bukes, stand by me.
- 1:11:21Speaker 4: You got it correct. And there's three names remaining.
- 1:11:24Speaker 3: Oh, I don't know that I'll know these.

- 1:12:27Speaker 4: Wheaton and Dad, you're on the board with River Phoenix.
- 1:12:32Speaker 3: We watched that at the Oregon Getaway last year.
- 1:12:34Speaker 4: Is what I heard.
- 1:12:35Speaker 3: Go to tinfest music dot com. If you want to

- 1:13:44Speaker 2: It's a good I thought it was the best part
- 1:13:46Speaker 2: of the movie.
- 1:13:48Speaker 4: You got three points and Buke's got Richard gear.
- 1:13:53Speaker 2: Down. Dudes, I'll take it.

- 1:14:51Speaker 3: military a.
- 1:14:52Speaker 2: Piece of a pile of poop. Ye, exactly, that was.
- 1:14:59Speaker 2: Paxton was fun in that movie.
- 1:15:01Speaker 3: Yeah, he was really good. It doesn't look like him.
- 1:15:04Speaker 3: That's pretty cool.
- 1:15:05Speaker 2: Kelly Lebron was kind of fun in that movie.
- 1:15:08Speaker 3: Too, very pretty, very indeed.
- 1:15:11Speaker 2: I like that kind of thing.
- 1:15:12Speaker 4: Yeah, let's go to number four. The first name is
