- 0:00Speaker 1: Chapter eleven. Now it was in the law of Mosiah
- 0:05Speaker 1: that every man who was a judge of the law,
- 0:08Speaker 1: or those who were appointed to be judges, should receive
- 0:12Speaker 1: wages according to the time which they labored to judge
- 0:15Speaker 1: those who were brought before them to be judged. Now,
- 0:20Speaker 1: if a man owed another and he would not pay
- 0:23Speaker 1: that which he did owe, he was complained of to
- 0:26Speaker 1: the judge, and the judge executed authority and sent forth
- 0:31Speaker 1: officers that the man should be brought before him, and
- 0:35Speaker 1: he judged the man according to the law and the
- 0:37Speaker 1: evidences which were brought against him. And thus the man
- 0:41Speaker 1: was compelled to pay that which he owed, or to
- 0:44Speaker 1: be stripped or be cast out from among the people
- 0:47Speaker 1: as a thief and a robber. And the judge received
- 0:52Speaker 1: for his wages according to his time, a sea nine
- 0:56Speaker 1: of gold for a day, or a senum of silver,
- 1:00Speaker 1: which is equal to a sea nine of gold. And
- 1:04Speaker 1: this is according to the law which was given. Now
- 1:08Speaker 1: these are the names of the different pieces of their
- 1:11Speaker 1: gold and of their silver, according to their value. And
- 1:15Speaker 1: the names are given by the Nephites, for they did
- 1:19Speaker 1: not reckon after the manner of the Jews, who were
- 1:22Speaker 1: at Jerusalem. Neither did they measure after the manner of
- 1:25Speaker 1: the Jews. But they altered their reckoning and their measure
- 1:30Speaker 1: according to the minds and circumstances of the people in
- 1:34Speaker 1: every generation until the reign of the Judges, they having
- 1:39Speaker 1: been established by King Mosiah. Now the reckoning is thus
- 1:45Speaker 1: a sea nine of gold, and a sein of gold,
- 1:49Speaker 1: a shum of gold, an a limna of gold, a
- 1:54Speaker 1: senum of silver, an amnor of silver, an ezram of silk,
- 2:00Speaker 1: and an on type of silver. A senum of silver
- 2:04Speaker 1: was equal to a s nine of gold, and either
- 2:08Speaker 1: for a measure of barley, and also for a measure
- 2:12Speaker 1: of every kind of grain. Now the amount of a
- 2:15Speaker 1: sion of gold was twice the value of a senine,
- 2:21Speaker 1: and a shum of gold was twice the value of
- 2:24Speaker 1: a seion, And alimna of gold was the value of
- 2:29Speaker 1: them all. And an amnor of silver was as great
- 2:34Speaker 1: as two senums, and an asram of silver was as
- 2:38Speaker 1: great as four senums, and an ontie was as great
- 2:42Speaker 1: as them all. Now this is the value of the
- 2:46Speaker 1: lesser numbers of their reckoning. A shiblum is half of
- 2:51Speaker 1: a senum. Therefore, a shiblum for half a measure of barley,
- 2:57Speaker 1: and a shiblum is half of a ship biblum, and
- 3:01Speaker 1: aliyah is the half of a shiblum. Now this is
- 3:06Speaker 1: their number according to their reckoning. Now an anteon of
- 3:11Speaker 1: gold is equal to three shiblums. Now it was for
- 3:16Speaker 1: the sole purpose to get gain, because they received their
- 3:19Speaker 1: wages according to their employ Therefore they did stir up
- 3:25Speaker 1: the people to riotings and all manner of disturbances and wickedness,
- 3:30Speaker 1: that they might have more employ that they might get
- 3:33Speaker 1: money according to the suits which were brought before them.
- 3:37Speaker 1: Therefore they did stir up the people against alma An Amulek.
- 3:42Speaker 1: And this Ziezram began to question Amulek, saying, will he
- 3:48Speaker 1: answer me a few questions which I shall ask you. Now,
- 3:52Speaker 1: Zizram was a man who was expert in the devices
- 3:56Speaker 1: of the devil, that he might destroy that which was good.
- 4:00Speaker 1: Therefore he said, unto Amulek, will he answer the questions
- 4:05Speaker 1: which I shall put to you? An Amulek said unto him, yea,
- 4:11Speaker 1: if it be according to the spirit of the Lord
- 4:13Speaker 1: which is in me, For I shall say nothing which
- 4:16Speaker 1: is contrary to the spirit of the Lord. And Zeizram
- 4:20Speaker 1: said unto him. Behold, here are six anties of silver,
- 4:26Speaker 1: And all these will I give THEE if thou wilt
- 4:29Speaker 1: deny the existence of a supreme being. Now, Amulek said, O, thou,
- 4:36Speaker 1: child of hell, why tempt ye me? Knowest thou that
- 4:41Speaker 1: the Righteous yieldetht to no such temptations. Believest thou that
- 4:46Speaker 1: there is no God? I say unto you. Nay, thou
- 4:50Speaker 1: knowest that there is a God. But thou lovest that
- 4:53Speaker 1: lucre more than him. And now thou hast lied before
- 4:58Speaker 1: God unto me, Thou saidest unto me, behold these six anties,
- 5:04Speaker 1: which are of great worth. I would give unto THEE,
- 5:07Speaker 1: when thou hadst in thy heart to retain them from me.
- 5:11Speaker 1: And it was only thy desire that I should deny
- 5:13Speaker 1: the True and Living God, that thou mightest have cause
- 5:17Speaker 1: to destroy me. And thou behold, for this great evil,
- 5:21Speaker 1: thou shalt have thy reward. And Zizram said, unto him,
- 5:26Speaker 1: thou sayest there is a true and living God. And
- 5:30Speaker 1: Amulek said, yea, there is a true and living God.
- 5:35Speaker 1: Now Zizram said, is there more than one God? And
- 5:40Speaker 1: he answered no. Now Zizram said unto him again, How
- 5:46Speaker 1: knowest thou these things? And he said, an angel hath
- 5:51Speaker 1: made them known unto me? And Zizram said again, who
- 5:56Speaker 1: is he that shall come? Is it the Son of God?
- 6:01Speaker 1: And he said unto him, yea. And Zizram said again,
- 6:06Speaker 1: shall he save his people in their sins? An Amulek
- 6:11Speaker 1: answered and said, unto him, I say unto you, he
- 6:15Speaker 1: shall not, for it is impossible for him to deny
- 6:18Speaker 1: his word. Now Zizram said unto the people, see that
- 6:23Speaker 1: ye remember these things, For he said, there is but
- 6:27Speaker 1: one God. Yet he saith that the Son of God
- 6:30Speaker 1: shall come, but he shall not save his people, as
- 6:34Speaker 1: though he had authority to command God. Now Amulech saith
- 6:39Speaker 1: again unto him. Behold thou hast lied, For thou sayest
- 6:44Speaker 1: that I spake as though I had authority to command God,
- 6:47Speaker 1: because I said he shall not save his people in
- 6:50Speaker 1: their sins. And I say unto you again that he
- 6:55Speaker 1: cannot save them in their sins, for I cannot deny
- 6:59Speaker 1: his word. And he has said that no unclean thing
- 7:03Speaker 1: can inherit the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, how can ye
- 7:07Speaker 1: be saved? Except ye inherit the Kingdom of heaven. Therefore,
- 7:13Speaker 1: ye cannot be saved in your sins. Now, Ziazram saith again,
- 7:18Speaker 1: unto him is the Son of God, the very eternal Father.
- 7:24Speaker 1: An Amulech said, unto him, yea, he is the very
- 7:28Speaker 1: eternal Father of heaven and of earth and all things
- 7:32Speaker 1: which in them are. He is the beginning and the end,
- 7:36Speaker 1: the first and the last. And he shall come into
- 7:39Speaker 1: the world to redeem his people. And he shall take
- 7:43Speaker 1: upon him the transgressions of those who believe on his name.
- 7:47Speaker 1: And these are they that shall have eternal life, and
- 7:51Speaker 1: salvation cometh to none else. Therefore, the wicked remain as
- 7:56Speaker 1: though there had been no redemption made, except it be
- 8:00Speaker 1: the loosing of the bands of death. For behold, the
- 8:03Speaker 1: day cometh that all shall rise from the dead and
- 8:07Speaker 1: stand before God and be judged according to their works.
- 8:12Speaker 1: Now there is a death, which is called a temporal death,
- 8:16Speaker 1: and the death of Christ shall loose the bands of
- 8:19Speaker 1: this temporal death. That all shall be raised from this
- 8:23Speaker 1: temporal death. The spirit and the body shall be reunited
- 8:27Speaker 1: again in its perfect form, both limb and joint shall
- 8:31Speaker 1: be restored to its proper frame. Even as we now
- 8:36Speaker 1: are at this time, and we shall be brought to
- 8:39Speaker 1: stand before God, knowing even as we know now and
- 8:43Speaker 1: have a bright recollection of all our guilt. Now this
- 8:48Speaker 1: restoration shall come to all, both old and young, both
- 8:52Speaker 1: bond and free, both male and female, both the wicked
- 8:57Speaker 1: and the righteous. And even there shall not be so
- 9:00Speaker 1: much as a hair of their heads be lost. But
- 9:03Speaker 1: everything shall be restored to its perfect frame as it
- 9:08Speaker 1: is now or in the body, and shall be brought
- 9:12Speaker 1: and be arraigned before the bar of Christ the Son,
- 9:16Speaker 1: and God the Father, and the Holy Spirit, which is
- 9:19Speaker 1: one eternal God, to be judged according to their works,
- 9:24Speaker 1: whether they be good or whether they be evil. Now behold,
- 9:29Speaker 1: I have spoken unto you concerning the death of the
- 9:32Speaker 1: mortal body, and also concerning the resurrection of the mortal body.
- 9:37Speaker 1: I say unto you that this mortal body is raised
- 9:41Speaker 1: to an immortal body, that is from death, even from
- 9:45Speaker 1: the first death, unto life, that they can die no more,
- 9:49Speaker 1: their spirits uniting with their bodies, never to be divided,
- 9:54Speaker 1: thus the whole becoming spiritual and immortal, that they can
- 9:59Speaker 1: no more seek. Now, when Amulek had finished these words,
- 10:04Speaker 1: the people began again to be astonished, and also Zizram
- 10:09Speaker 1: began to tremble, and thus ended the words of Amulek.
- 10:14Speaker 1: Or this is all that I have written Chapter twelve.
- 10:18Speaker 1: Now Alma, seeing that the words of Amulek silenced Zizram,
- 10:23Speaker 1: for he beheld that Amulek had caught him in his
- 10:26Speaker 1: lying and deceiving to destroy him, And seeing that he
- 10:31Speaker 1: began to tremble under a consciousness of his guilt, he
- 10:35Speaker 1: opened his mouth and began to speak unto him, and
- 10:38Speaker 1: to establish the words of Amulek, and to explain things beyond,
- 10:43Speaker 1: or to unfold the scriptures beyond that which Amulek had done. Now,
- 10:49Speaker 1: the words that Alma spoke unto Ziazram were heard by
- 10:52Speaker 1: the people round about, for the multitude was great. And
- 10:56Speaker 1: he spake on this wise. Now, Zizram, seeing that thou
- 11:01Speaker 1: hast been taken in thy lying in craftiness, for thou
- 11:05Speaker 1: hast not lied unto men only, but thou hast lied
- 11:08Speaker 1: unto God. For behold, he knows all thy thoughts, and
- 11:13Speaker 1: thou seest that thy thoughts are made known unto us
- 11:16Speaker 1: by His spirit. And thou seest that we know that
- 11:20Speaker 1: thy plan was a very subtle plan, as the subtlety
- 11:24Speaker 1: of the devil, for to lie and to deceive this people,
- 11:28Speaker 1: that thou mightst set them against us, to revile us
- 11:31Speaker 1: and to cast us out. Now this was a plan
- 11:34Speaker 1: of thine adversary, and he hath exercised his power in thee.
- 11:39Speaker 1: Now I would say that ye should remember at what
- 11:42Speaker 1: I say unto thee I say unto all. And behold
- 11:47Speaker 1: I say unto you all, that this was a snare
- 11:50Speaker 1: of the adversary which he has laid to catch this people,
- 11:55Speaker 1: that he might bring you into subjection unto him, that
- 11:59Speaker 1: he encircle you about with his chains, that he might
- 12:03Speaker 1: chain you down to everlasting destruction according to the power
- 12:08Speaker 1: of his captivity. Now, when Almah had spoken these words,
- 12:13Speaker 1: Zizram began to tremble more exceedingly, for he was convinced
- 12:18Speaker 1: more and more of the power of God. And he
- 12:21Speaker 1: was convinced that Almah and Amulek had a knowledge of him.
- 12:25Speaker 1: For he was convinced that they knew the thoughts and
- 12:28Speaker 1: intense of his heart. For power was given unto them
- 12:33Speaker 1: that they might know these things according to the spirit
- 12:36Speaker 1: of prophecy. And Zizram began to inquire of them more diligently,
- 12:42Speaker 1: that he might no more concerning the Kingdom of God.
- 12:45Speaker 1: And he said into Almah, what does this mean which
- 12:49Speaker 1: Amulek has spoken concerning the resurrection of the dead, That
- 12:53Speaker 1: all shall rise from the dead, both the just and
- 12:56Speaker 1: the unjust, and are brought to stand before God, to
- 12:59Speaker 1: be joe udged according to their works. And now Almah
- 13:03Speaker 1: began to expound these things unto him, saying, it is
- 13:08Speaker 1: given unto many to know the mysteries of God. Nevertheless,
- 13:12Speaker 1: they are laid under a strict command that they shall
- 13:15Speaker 1: not impart only according to the portion of His word
- 13:19Speaker 1: which he doth grant, until the children of men, according
- 13:22Speaker 1: to the heed and diligence which they given to him.
- 13:27Speaker 1: And therefore he that will harden his heart the same
- 13:31Speaker 1: receiveth the lesser portion of the Word. And he that
- 13:35Speaker 1: will not harden his heart to him is given the
- 13:38Speaker 1: greater portion of the Word, until it is given unto
- 13:42Speaker 1: him to know the mysteries of God, until he know
- 13:45Speaker 1: them in full. And they that will harden their hearts
- 13:50Speaker 1: to them is given the lesser portion of the Word,
- 13:53Speaker 1: until they know nothing concerning His mysteries. And then they
- 13:57Speaker 1: are taken captive by the devil and led by his
- 14:00Speaker 1: will down to destruction. Now this is what is meant
- 14:04Speaker 1: by the chains of hell. An Amulek has spoken plainly
- 14:10Speaker 1: concerning death and being raised from this mortality to a
- 14:13Speaker 1: state of immortality, and being brought before the bar of
- 14:16Speaker 1: God to be judged according to our works. Then if
- 14:21Speaker 1: our hearts have been hardened, yea. If we have hardened
- 14:24Speaker 1: our hearts against the word insomuch that it has not
- 14:28Speaker 1: been found in us, then will our state be awful,
- 14:32Speaker 1: For then we shall be condemned. For our words will
- 14:36Speaker 1: condemn us. Yea. All our works will condemn us. We
- 14:41Speaker 1: shall not be found spotless, and our thoughts will also
- 14:45Speaker 1: condemn us. And in this awful state we shall not
- 14:49Speaker 1: dare to look up to our God. And we would
- 14:53Speaker 1: fain be glad if we could command the rocks and
- 14:55Speaker 1: the mountains to fall upon us, to hide us from
- 14:59Speaker 1: his presence. But this cannot be. We must come forth
- 15:04Speaker 1: and stand before Him in his glory and in his
- 15:07Speaker 1: power and in his might, majesty and dominion, and acknowledge
- 15:12Speaker 1: to our everlasting shame, that all his judgments are just,
- 15:17Speaker 1: that he is just in all his works, and that
- 15:20Speaker 1: he is merciful unto the children of men. And that
- 15:24Speaker 1: he has all power to save every man that believeth
- 15:27Speaker 1: on his name, and bringeth forth fruit meet for repentance.
- 15:33Speaker 1: And now behold, I say unto you, then cometh a death,
- 15:36Speaker 1: even a second death, which is a spiritual death. Then
- 15:42Speaker 1: is the time that whosoever dieth in his sins as
- 15:46Speaker 1: to a temporal death, shall also die a spiritual death. Yea,
- 15:50Speaker 1: he shall die as to things pertaining unto righteousness. Then
- 15:57Speaker 1: is the time when their torments shall be as a
- 16:00Speaker 1: lake of fire and brimstone, whose flame ascendeth up forever
- 16:05Speaker 1: and ever. And then is the time that they shall
- 16:08Speaker 1: be chained down to an everlasting destruction according to the
- 16:12Speaker 1: power and captivity of Satan. He having subjected them according
- 16:17Speaker 1: to his will, Then I say unto you, they shall
- 16:21Speaker 1: be as though they had been no redemption made, for
- 16:25Speaker 1: they cannot be redeemed according to God's justice, and they
- 16:29Speaker 1: cannot die, seeing there is no more corruption. Now it
- 16:34Speaker 1: came to pass that when Almah had made an end
- 16:36Speaker 1: of speaking these words, the people began to be more astonished.
- 16:42Speaker 1: But there was one Auntieana, who was a chief ruler
- 16:45Speaker 1: among them, came forth and said, unto him, what is
- 16:49Speaker 1: this that thou hast said that man should rise from
- 16:53Speaker 1: the dead and be changed from this mortal to an
- 16:56Speaker 1: immortal state, that the soul can never die. Does the
- 17:00Speaker 1: scripture mean which saith that God placed Cherubim and a
- 17:04Speaker 1: flaming sword on the east of the garden of Eden,
- 17:08Speaker 1: lest our first parents should enter and partake of the
- 17:10Speaker 1: fruit of the Tree of life and live forever. And
- 17:14Speaker 1: thus we see that there was no possible chance they
- 17:17Speaker 1: should live forever. Now Almah said unto him, this is
- 17:21Speaker 1: the thing which I was about to explain. Now we
- 17:25Speaker 1: see that Adam did fall by the partaking of the
- 17:28Speaker 1: forbidden fruit, according to the word of God. And thus
- 17:32Speaker 1: we see that by his fall all mankind became a
- 17:36Speaker 1: lost and fallen people. And now behold, I say unto
- 17:40Speaker 1: you that if it had been possible for Adam to
- 17:43Speaker 1: have partaken of the fruit of the Tree of life
- 17:45Speaker 1: at that time, there would have been no death, and
- 17:49Speaker 1: the word would have been void, making God a liar.
- 17:52Speaker 1: For he said, if thou eat, thou shalt surely die.
- 17:57Speaker 1: And we see that death comes upon mankind. Yea, the
- 18:00Speaker 1: death which has been spoken of by Amulik, which is
- 18:04Speaker 1: the temporal death. Nevertheless, there was a space granted unto
- 18:09Speaker 1: man in which he might repent. Therefore, this life became
- 18:13Speaker 1: a probationary state, a time to prepare to meet God,
- 18:18Speaker 1: a time to prepare for that endless state which has
- 18:21Speaker 1: been spoken of by us, which is after the resurrection
- 18:25Speaker 1: of the dead. Now, if it had not been for
- 18:28Speaker 1: the plan of redemption, which was laid from the foundation
- 18:32Speaker 1: of the world, there could have been no resurrection of
- 18:35Speaker 1: the dead. But there was a plan of redemption laid,
- 18:39Speaker 1: which shall bring to pass the resurrection of the dead,
- 18:42Speaker 1: of which has been spoken. And now behold, if it
- 18:47Speaker 1: were possible that our first parents could have gone forth
- 18:50Speaker 1: and partaken of the tree of life, they would have
- 18:53Speaker 1: been forever miserable, having no preparatory state. And thus the
- 18:58Speaker 1: plan of redemption would have been frustrated, and the word
- 19:02Speaker 1: of God would have been void, taking none effect. But behold,
- 19:07Speaker 1: it was not so. But it was appointed unto men
- 19:11Speaker 1: that they must die, and after death they must come
- 19:14Speaker 1: to judgment, even that same judgment of which we have spoken,
- 19:18Speaker 1: which is the end. And after God had appointed that
- 19:23Speaker 1: these things should come unto man, behold, then he saw
- 19:27Speaker 1: that it was expedient that man should know concerning the
- 19:30Speaker 1: things whereof he had appointed unto them. Therefore he sent
- 19:34Speaker 1: angels to converse with them, who caused men to behold
- 19:38Speaker 1: of His glory, and they began from that time forth
- 19:42Speaker 1: to call on his name. Therefore God conversed with men
- 19:47Speaker 1: and made known under them the plan of redemption, which
- 19:50Speaker 1: had been prepared for the foundation of the world. And
- 19:54Speaker 1: this he made known unto them according to their faith
- 19:57Speaker 1: and repentance and their holy work. Wherefore he gave commandments
- 20:03Speaker 1: unto men, they having first transgressed the first commandments as
- 20:08Speaker 1: to things which were temporal, and becoming as gods, knowing
- 20:12Speaker 1: good from evil, placing themselves in a state to act,
- 20:17Speaker 1: or being placed in a state to act according to
- 20:20Speaker 1: their wills and pleasures, whether to do evil or to
- 20:24Speaker 1: do good. Therefore God gave unto them commandments, after having
- 20:29Speaker 1: made known unto them the plan of redemption, that they
- 20:33Speaker 1: should not do evil, the penalty thereof being a second death,
- 20:37Speaker 1: which was an everlasting death as to things pertaining and
- 20:41Speaker 1: too righteousness. For on such the Plan of Redemption could
- 20:45Speaker 1: have no power, for the works of justice could not
- 20:48Speaker 1: be destroyed according to the supreme goodness of God. But
- 20:52Speaker 1: God did call on men in the name of his son,
- 20:56Speaker 1: this being the plan of redemption which was laid saying,
- 21:01Speaker 1: if ye will repent and harden not your hearts, then
- 21:04Speaker 1: I will have mercy upon you through mine only begotten son. Therefore,
- 21:10Speaker 1: whoever repenteth and hardeneth not his heart, he shall have
- 21:15Speaker 1: claim on mercy through mine only begotten son, unto a
- 21:19Speaker 1: remission of his sins. And thee shall enter into my rest.
- 21:24Speaker 1: And whosoever will harden his heart and will do iniquity, behold,
- 21:29Speaker 1: I swear in my wrath that he shall not enter
- 21:32Speaker 1: into my rest. And now, my brethren, behold, I say
- 21:36Speaker 1: unto you that if ye will harden your hearts, ye
- 21:40Speaker 1: shall not enter into the rest of the Lord. Therefore
- 21:44Speaker 1: your iniquity provoketh him, that he sendeth down his wrath
- 21:48Speaker 1: upon you, as in the first provocation. Yea, according to
- 21:52Speaker 1: his word, in the last provocation, as well as the first,
- 21:56Speaker 1: to the everlasting destruction of your souls. Therefore, according to
- 22:01Speaker 1: his word, unto the last death as well as the first.
- 22:06Speaker 1: And now, my brethren, seeing ye know these things and
- 22:09Speaker 1: that they are true, let us repent and harden not
- 22:13Speaker 1: our hearts, that we provoke not the Lord, our God
- 22:16Speaker 1: to pull down his wrath upon us in these his
- 22:19Speaker 1: second commandments, which he has given unto us. But let
- 22:23Speaker 1: us enter into the rest of God, which is prepared
- 22:27Speaker 1: according to his word Chapter thirteen. And again, my brethren,
- 22:33Speaker 1: I would cite your minds forward to the time when
- 22:36Speaker 1: the Lord God gave these commandments unto his children. And
- 22:40Speaker 1: I would that ye should remember that the Lord God
- 22:43Speaker 1: ordained priests after his holy order, which was after the
- 22:48Speaker 1: order of his son, to teach thee things unto people.
- 22:53Speaker 1: And those priests were ordained after the order of his
- 22:56Speaker 1: son in a manner that thereby the people might know
- 22:59Speaker 1: in what manner to look forward to his son for redemption.
- 23:04Speaker 1: And this is the manner after which they were ordained,
- 23:07Speaker 1: being called and prepared from the foundation of the world
- 23:11Speaker 1: according to the foreknowledge of God on account of their
- 23:14Speaker 1: exceeding faith and good works in the first place, being
- 23:19Speaker 1: left to choose good or evil. Therefore, they, having chosen
- 23:23Speaker 1: good and exercising exceedingly great faith, are called with a
- 23:27Speaker 1: holy calling. Yea, with that holy calling which was prepared
- 23:31Speaker 1: with and according to a preparatory redemption for such And
- 23:38Speaker 1: thus they have been called to this holy calling on
- 23:40Speaker 1: account of their faith, while others would reject the spirit
- 23:44Speaker 1: of God on account of the hardness of their hearts
- 23:47Speaker 1: and blindness of their minds. While if it had not
- 23:51Speaker 1: been given for this, they might have had as great
- 23:53Speaker 1: privilege as their brethren, or in fine, in the first place,
- 23:58Speaker 1: they were on the same standing with their brethren. Thus
- 24:02Speaker 1: this holy calling being prepared from the foundation of the world,
- 24:07Speaker 1: for such as would not harden their hearts, being in
- 24:11Speaker 1: and through the atonement of the only Begotten Son, who
- 24:14Speaker 1: was prepared, and thus being called by this holy calling
- 24:19Speaker 1: and ordained unto the high priesthood of the Holy Order
- 24:22Speaker 1: of God, to teach his commandments unto the children of men,
- 24:27Speaker 1: that they also might enter into His rest, this high
- 24:31Speaker 1: priesthood being after the order of His Son, which order
- 24:35Speaker 1: was from the foundation of the world, or in other words,
- 24:39Speaker 1: being without beginning of days or end of years, being
- 24:44Speaker 1: prepared from eternity to all eternity, according to His foreknowledge
- 24:49Speaker 1: of all things. Now they were ordained after this manner,
- 24:53Speaker 1: being called with a holy calling and ordained with a
- 24:56Speaker 1: holy ordinance, and taking upon them the high prieststhood of
- 25:00Speaker 1: the Holy Order, which calling an ordinance and high priesthood
- 25:05Speaker 1: is without beginning or end. Thus they became high priests forever,
- 25:11Speaker 1: after the order of the Sun, the only begotten of
- 25:14Speaker 1: the Father, who is without beginning of days or end
- 25:17Speaker 1: of years, who is full of grace, equity and truth.
- 25:22Speaker 1: And thus it is amen. Now, as I said concerning
- 25:27Speaker 1: the Holy Order or this high priesthood, there were many
- 25:31Speaker 1: who were ordained and became high priests of God. And
- 25:35Speaker 1: it was on account of their exceeding faith and repentance
- 25:39Speaker 1: and their righteousness before God, they choosing to repent and
- 25:42Speaker 1: work righteousness rather than to perish. Therefore they were called
- 25:47Speaker 1: after this Holy Order and were sanctified, and their garments
- 25:51Speaker 1: were washed white through the blood of the Lamb. Now they,
- 25:55Speaker 1: after being sanctified by the Holy Ghost, having their garments
- 25:59Speaker 1: made white, being pure and spotless before God, they could
- 26:04Speaker 1: not look upon sin, save it were with abhorrence. And
- 26:09Speaker 1: there were many, exceedingly great, many who were made pure
- 26:12Speaker 1: and entered into the rest of the Lord their God.
- 26:16Speaker 1: And now, my brethren, I would that ye should humble
- 26:20Speaker 1: yourselves before God and bring forth fruit meet for repentance,
- 26:24Speaker 1: that ye may also enter into that rest. Yea humble yourselves,
- 26:29Speaker 1: even as the people of the days of Melchizedic, who
- 26:33Speaker 1: was also a high priest after this same order which
- 26:36Speaker 1: I have spoken, who also took upon him the high
- 26:39Speaker 1: priesthood forever. And it was the same Melchizedic to whom
- 26:44Speaker 1: Abraham paid tithes. Yea, even our father Abraham paid tithes
- 26:49Speaker 1: of one tenth part of all he possessed. Now these
- 26:53Speaker 1: ordinances were given after this manner, that thereby the people
- 26:58Speaker 1: might look forward on the Son of God, it being
- 27:01Speaker 1: a type of his order, or it being his order,
- 27:05Speaker 1: and this that they might look forward to him for
- 27:08Speaker 1: a remission of their sins, that they might enter into
- 27:11Speaker 1: the rest of the Lord. Now this Melchizedic was a
- 27:15Speaker 1: king over the land of Salem, and his people had
- 27:19Speaker 1: waxed strong in iniquity and abomination. Yea, they had all
- 27:23Speaker 1: gone astray. They were full of all manner of wickedness.
- 27:27Speaker 1: But Melchizedic, having exercised mighty faith and received the office
- 27:32Speaker 1: of the high priesthood according to the Holy Order of God,
- 27:36Speaker 1: did preach repentance unto his people. And behold, they did repent,
- 27:41Speaker 1: and Melchizedic did establish peace in the land in his days.
- 27:46Speaker 1: Therefore he was called the Prince of Peace. For he
- 27:49Speaker 1: was the king of Salem, and he did reign under
- 27:51Speaker 1: his father. Now there were many before him, and also
- 27:56Speaker 1: there were many afterwards, but none were greater. Therefore of
- 28:00Speaker 1: him they have more particularly made mention. Now I need
- 28:05Speaker 1: to rehearse the matter what I have said. May suffice behold,
- 28:10Speaker 1: the scriptures are before you. If ye will rest them,
- 28:13Speaker 1: it shall be to your own destruction. And now it
- 28:16Speaker 1: came to pass that when Alma had said these words
- 28:20Speaker 1: unto them, he stretched forth his hand unto them and
- 28:24Speaker 1: cried with a mighty voice, saying, now is the time
- 28:28Speaker 1: to repent, for the day of salvation draweth nigh, yea.
- 28:32Speaker 1: And the voice of the Lord, by the mouth of angels,
- 28:36Speaker 1: doth declare it unto all nations. Yea. Doth declare it
- 28:40Speaker 1: that they may have glad tidings of great joy, yea.
- 28:44Speaker 1: And he doth sound these glad tidings among all his people, yea,
- 28:48Speaker 1: even to them that are scattered abroad upon the face
- 28:51Speaker 1: of the earth. Wherefore they have come unto us, and
- 28:56Speaker 1: they are made known unto us in plain terms, that
- 29:00Speaker 1: we may understand that we cannot err. And this because
- 29:04Speaker 1: of our being wanderers in a strange land. Therefore we
- 29:08Speaker 1: are thus highly favored, for we have these glad tidings
- 29:12Speaker 1: declared unto us in all parts of our vineyard. For behold,
- 29:17Speaker 1: angels are declaring it unto many at this time in
- 29:20Speaker 1: our land. And this is for the purpose of preparing
- 29:24Speaker 1: the hearts of the children of men to receive His
- 29:27Speaker 1: word at the time of his coming in his glory.
- 29:31Speaker 1: And now we only wait to hear the joyful news
- 29:34Speaker 1: declared unto us by the mouth of angels of his coming.
- 29:39Speaker 1: For the time cometh. And we know not how soon
- 29:43Speaker 1: would to God that it might be in my day,
- 29:46Speaker 1: but let it be sooner or later. In it I
- 29:48Speaker 1: will rejoice, and it shall be made known unto just
- 29:52Speaker 1: and holy men by the mouth of angels at the
- 29:55Speaker 1: time of his coming, that the words of our fathers
- 29:58Speaker 1: may be fulfilled according to that which they have spoken
- 30:02Speaker 1: concerning him, which was according to the spirit of prophecy
- 30:06Speaker 1: which was in them. And now, my brethren, I wish
- 30:10Speaker 1: from the inmost part of my heart, yea with great anxiety,
- 30:14Speaker 1: even unto pain, that ye would hearken unto my words
- 30:19Speaker 1: and cast off your sins, and not procrastinate the day
- 30:23Speaker 1: of your repentance. But that ye would humble yourselves before
- 30:26Speaker 1: the Lord, and call on his holy name, and watch
- 30:30Speaker 1: and pray continually, that ye may not be tempted above
- 30:33Speaker 1: that which she can bear, and thus be led by
- 30:36Speaker 1: the Holy Spirit, becoming humble, meek, submissive, patient, full of love,
- 30:42Speaker 1: and all long suffering, having faith on the Lord, having
- 30:46Speaker 1: a hope that ye shall receive eternal life, having the
- 30:50Speaker 1: love of God always in your hearts, that ye may
- 30:53Speaker 1: be lifted up at the last day and enter into
- 30:56Speaker 1: His rest. And may God grant to you repentance, that
- 31:01Speaker 1: ye may not bring down His wrath upon you, that
- 31:04Speaker 1: she may not be bound down by the chains of hell,
- 31:08Speaker 1: that she may not suffer the second death. And Alma
- 31:12Speaker 1: spoke many more words unto the people, which are not
- 31:15Speaker 1: written in this book. End of Alma, chapters eleven to thirteen.
