- 0:33Hamster with a blump. Pen knife.
- 0:35They're doing quicker, quicker. Welcome back to a hamster with a
- 0:38blump. Pen knife.
- 0:40A jolly morning that we're having today, loaded with
- 0:44sausage sandwiches, psychotic stones and eccentric academic
- 0:50professors. Oh, that was a lot of words.
- 0:53I'm here today with the joyful Glenn Fitzgerald.
- 0:57Hello, Glenn. Hello.
- 1:00Now, are you having a good time? You're popping your cherry.
- 1:03I've popped me cherry so many times this morning.
- 1:06I'm warm now. You know what, right?
- 1:09He came on the call and I was like oh he don't look too happy.
- 1:12And then he spent the last fucking 30 minutes laughing his
- 1:15head off at my. Stupid.
- 1:17Quotes of the story can I? Ask you.
- 1:21Can I ask you a question very quickly, because we.
- 1:23Just talked about. Something and I just I just want
- 1:27to, I don't, you know, I don't want to have a therapy session.
- 1:30I don't want to bore you anything.
- 1:31But like you said, Doctor, Who's been a solitary pursuit of
- 1:36yours. Yeah.
- 1:38And did you like it that way? I didn't know any other way, if
- 1:46I'm honest, so it got me into the mindset of Doctor Who is
- 1:50mine. You know, you get possessive of
- 1:53something and I got very possessive of it.
- 1:59It it, it was something that if I'd had a shit day at work, I'd
- 2:04stick Doctor Who on. Or, you know, if I, I would even
- 2:08turn my mates down, going out for the weekend, going to the
- 2:11pub, whatever. Because you coming out tonight.
- 2:14Now I'm watching Tomb of the Cybermen or something like that.
- 2:17You know, I, I was quite happy just to sit on my own and watch
- 2:20Doctor Who. It just made me happy, still
- 2:25does. It made me happy.
- 2:27We're sharing this today. What's changed?
- 2:33In a nutshell, I found a lovely bunch of people with that
- 2:39blowing smoke up your ass, but it's it's nothing.
- 2:42To do with me, mate, it ain't nothing to do with me.
- 2:45But all those people came along, they all just came accidentally.
- 2:49I've, I've been, I mean, I'll admit I got forced out of fandom
- 2:55once and I left, left Doctor Who for about two years because it
- 3:03upset me that much without, it's not a sob story.
- 3:06It really did upset or pissed me off that much that I walked away
- 3:09from it. It was around the time of COVID.
- 3:15Everyone was moaning about Jodie and of course I stuck my 2
- 3:19pennies worth in and said come on guys let's give her a chance
- 3:23blah blah blah and I basically got shot down, got told I was
- 3:27old, I don't know anything what do I know about Doctor Who?
- 3:30Your generation was all racist blah blah blah.
- 3:35And I thought you know what if these are the sort of people
- 3:38that are watching Doctor Who now then get fucked basically.
- 3:42And I, I walked away from it and it it hurt.
- 3:45It did hurt. I think it took me a good year
- 3:50and a half, couple of years to think, you know what?
- 3:53That's, that's a part that was a massive part of my life and I
- 3:57miss it. And I think I stuck on pyramids
- 4:01and Mars and I thought, I love this.
- 4:06I love this act. I walked away from this and
- 4:10slowly it sort of started coming because it never leaves you.
- 4:13There's a It's not a day going by when you don't think about
- 4:16Doctor Who, for God's sake, and. It's insidious, it.
- 4:21Is it's in the blood, it's, it's just there and there was, there
- 4:27was no way I was going to carry on the rest of my life being
- 4:32told what I can and can't have an opinion on, what I what I can
- 4:37and can't watch what's right and wrong, blah, blah, blah.
- 4:40I'm not interested in all that. I'm not interested in politics,
- 4:43never have been. I never watched the news.
- 4:46I like Doctor Who. That's the end of it.
- 4:48Doctor Who is what it is. It's lovely.
- 4:53It's go to TV when I need cheering up.
- 4:57If I'm already happy, then excellent, I'll watch a lovely
- 5:00Doctor Who story and no one's ever going to take that away
- 5:03from me again. And I started because I'm a bit
- 5:07of a Jerry Anderson fan as well. Oh boy, there's so many feathers
- 5:11in your strings, I tell you. I know there's too many.
- 5:14So I, I listened to the Jerry Anderson podcast and they kept
- 5:20every so often mean, I mean, Doctor Who gets mentioned a lot
- 5:23on there and they were mentioning all these different
- 5:26sort of Doctor Who podcasts and that and I, I, I found Jim
- 5:32Allenby's What's in the Box from there.
- 5:36I found your podcast. And the rest, as they say, is
- 5:40history. And I, I, I, I was a little bit
- 5:44dubious at first because of what had previously happened, But
- 5:48there's none of that. There was none of that.
- 5:50Everybody seems so nice and happy.
- 5:52And if someone's got an opinion they don't agree with, yeah, you
- 5:56just laugh it off. Bit of banter.
- 5:59No one pulls out the knives or anything like that.
- 6:01It's just lovely, nice atmosphere, good bunch of
- 6:06people. It's, I mean, it's not
- 6:07necessarily hamster, although it's probably a good example of
- 6:10it. But like there's, there are
- 6:12these sort of spaces amongst the toxicity of what happens in
- 6:19Doctor Who fandom where, yeah, where people do sort of form
- 6:23together. I see it with a there's, there's
- 6:24this a couple of podcasts where it's like a lot of young kids as
- 6:28well that have found Doctor Who where it's just a really
- 6:30positive place where you can, you can have an argument, you
- 6:33can have a difference of opinion.
- 6:35You know, Jesus, listen to me and Fraser for God's sakes, but
- 6:37you still adore each other at the end and you sort of
- 6:40challenge each other and you come away understanding each
- 6:44other a little bit better and not disliking each other.
- 6:48I mean, it's totally possible to do that.
- 6:50Yeah. And that that's, that's what was
- 6:54so refreshing, refreshingly nice.
- 6:57It's such a nice change to find somewhere where I've got
- 7:02accepted, you know, straight away and you're I'm allowed to
- 7:08like this even if you don't like it or vice versa, I mean.
- 7:12Glenn, someone told me recently the Rebus operation weren't very
- 7:15good. I mean, have you ever heard
- 7:18such? Madness in your life?
- 7:21How dare though. Well, look, something we can
- 7:25both agree on. Thank you for sharing all of
- 7:27that. I just, I think it's not not to
- 7:30market Hampton, but I think it's worth saying to people, find
- 7:34your spaces, not not necessarily this space, but find your spaces
- 7:37where you can be yourself and have your opinions and still be
- 7:42with people. Exactly.
- 7:44It doesn't have to be a solid, but something we can both agree
- 7:47on. It's that The Stones of Blood is
- 7:50fabulous and I think we should watch episode 4.
- 7:54I think we should. OK, well, will you count us in?
- 7:58I will count us in. We'll get ready to get on that
- 8:04Doctor Who's answer to the enterprise that is made out of
- 8:07the plumbing department in the DIY shop.
- 8:11Yes, it. Is as sophisticated as that you
- 8:16think? OK.
- 8:19Bless. It's little art right in 321.
- 8:25Let's go. Oh do.
- 8:27You know what makes me sad, right, is I did cover Stones of
- 8:30blood many, many years ago, right near the beginning of
- 8:33hamster, right? Yeah.
- 8:34It's so jolly. And now we've talked nearly at
- 8:37the end of it. I won't be able to talk about it
- 8:39again for another 5-6 years or something like that.
- 8:42You know, it's such. A delight.
- 8:43This. I'm glad I chose one that you
- 8:47like. You said a warm hug, Ellie.
- 8:49I think that is exactly what I mean.
- 8:51For me, that's this season, but in particular this story.
- 8:55Yeah, I just, just the way Mary Tam and Tom Baker stand
- 9:03together, everyone just seems so comfortable with each other in
- 9:06this. Yeah.
- 9:08What they've done, what they've done, this is their third now,
- 9:10isn't it? Yeah, I mean, I think my
- 9:13Armageddon factor, Mary Tam, is kind of on fire.
- 9:17It might have been interesting to have seen a second year, but
- 9:19I wouldn't lose Lala Ward for anything.
- 9:22No, no, I know what you mean. I would.
- 9:24I would have liked to have seen more like more stories with Mary
- 9:29Tam. Can I ask?
- 9:30Wasn't to be. Glenn, you know those fabulous
- 9:33raves you went to when you were younger?
- 9:35Yeah, where you may or may have not been under the influence.
- 9:39Do you remember those we talked about earlier?
- 9:41Vaguely, yeah. Yeah, Were you seeing sort of
- 9:44sparkly stars like the Magara at those raves?
- 9:48Oh, there was loads of them there.
- 9:50They love a bit of rave and and people people looking like
- 9:55Vivian Fayle dressed up like that as.
- 9:58Well, I can believe that. I mean, the clubs I went to, all
- 10:01the blokes were dressed up like Vivian Faye for God's sakes.
- 10:05There was a shortage of Crayola when they made her.
- 10:10And all of all the blokes in those clubs were going beware
- 10:14the ogre. But ogre was definitely a
- 10:17euphemism, all right. Where was it?
- 10:21Club UK? I think it was Club UK in
- 10:25Wandsworth used to have two massive Daleks up on stage.
- 10:32No. Did they?
- 10:33Yeah, next to the DJ did. You feel like Nicki had won.
- 10:36You could have done a heist. They were massive.
- 10:39They were. They were definitely out of
- 10:44scale a bit like that. They were they were a good 1015.
- 10:47What actual Daleks? Yeah, like.
- 10:49Real props. Not not props from like ones
- 10:52they'd made themselves up on stage.
- 10:55Yeah, they were massive. I'm going to have to confess
- 10:59something to you now. You see this Dalek right behind
- 11:02me here in the. Window, yeah.
- 11:03Yeah, that's that's from that club.
- 11:06No, I'm joking. I'm joking.
- 11:07I won't steal from nightclubs. Good grief.
- 11:11Is this is this a piss take of the legal system?
- 11:16I rather think it might be I. Think you could be right, and
- 11:20rightly so as well. Yeah, I mean, courtroom dramas
- 11:24are so, I mean, I generally find them a bit tedious.
- 11:27Yeah, yeah. I mean, Tom just happens to have
- 11:33a judge's wig in his pocket. Well, yeah, I mean, just like
- 11:36David Tennant did in the Style Beast.
- 11:38Still there. Yeah, OK, now I'm the wake.
- 11:43Isn't that a beautiful shot? That is, that camera's on the
- 11:46floor, Isn't it shooting out? Yeah, yeah, do get a good shot
- 11:52and any shot low down is a good shot.
- 11:56Are you all right, K9? She says.
- 12:01Ah, she's got to reconstruct them.
- 12:02Oh, of course, because Vivian says he's blowing the shit out
- 12:05of it, doesn't she? Yeah.
- 12:08She didn't like that. He goes, yeah, you must work
- 12:12under my instruction. Oh, she goes.
- 12:16You got Vivian face face in the background.
- 12:19Yes. You couldn't say it's a sort of
- 12:21a subtle performance, could you? No.
- 12:24You know, you know the bit later on when they realise.
- 12:27They go, you know, you are Vivian Faye, you no, sorry, you
- 12:31are Cecilia of Diplos. And they start listening out all
- 12:33of her crimes. The camera zooms in on her and
- 12:35she sort of goes. Oh.
- 12:40Yes, but sometimes I don't think you need nuance.
- 12:44Sometimes you just need panto. Yeah, here we go.
- 12:52I call Glenn Fitzgerald to the stands now.
- 12:56Mr. Glenn Fitzgerald, Yes. You are charged with finding the
- 13:02Rebus operation. A.
- 13:04Very boring Doctor Who story, how do you plead?
- 13:09Well, I'm afraid I'm guilty as charged.
- 13:13OK, well that's it. Take him from this dock.
- 13:17I can't lie. Hung, drawn and quartered,
- 13:21please. Oh, no, You could put me on this
- 13:24ship out in hyperspace. Send me out do.
- 13:27You know, I thought you said you could put me on this shit then
- 13:30talking about the podcast. Yeah, put me on that shit.
- 13:36You're already on this shit. I'm so sorry, Miss Devora
- 13:41Trilandar. What a surname.
- 13:45That's certainly a mouthful. Indeed, not a lot of the more
- 13:51pleasurable variety. I mean like my surname's Ford
- 13:54and she got Devorah Trilunda. Well, mainly you're going to
- 14:00argue with her. If you tell me that I offer a
- 14:02small mouthful, I'm coming for you.
- 14:05All right, The. Very thought hadn't even crossed
- 14:08my mind. Yeah.
- 14:11You'd never flirted with a man before this call, weren't you?
- 14:14And now here you are, episode 4 of Stones of Blood.
- 14:18She's scratching her head with that screwdriver again.
- 14:23What do you imagine is all that sort of purple swirly gas
- 14:26outside the window there in Harbour Space?
- 14:31That is a very deep and scientific question, Joe, and
- 14:35I'd never thought of that before in my life.
- 14:39That's got to. Be into this position but I need
- 14:42an answer. It's it's rather like what what
- 14:46was the film where the Enterprise confronts God and
- 14:50there's all that swirly gas in space?
- 14:54It reminds me of that. Maybe it's just a load of old
- 14:57gas. Why are you looking at me when
- 15:02you say it's a load of old gas? A load of old gas.
- 15:07Is it because I'm the only person on the zoom?
- 15:09Call. That's fair.
- 15:09All right, I'll take it as that. Yeah.
- 15:14Oh, so the justice machines, they've literally murdered all
- 15:16the people in the cells, right? They've considered them all
- 15:19guilty. OK, so we need to find a way to
- 15:25identify and incriminate Cesare of diplos.
- 15:30Yeah. What do you imagine it'll be?
- 15:32You know, blood types, things like that.
- 15:35She does like a blood type, don't she?
- 15:38Or is it citrid acid? That's right.
- 15:45Oh, because she she avoids what is it gin and tonics and things
- 15:48like that. Doesn't she say lemonade and
- 15:50lime? Yeah, I'd say they're doing a
- 15:53really good job though with because obviously them sparkly
- 15:57bits are not there when they're filming, but they're doing a
- 15:59good job of looking in the same area whilst they're acting.
- 16:03I think the effect of the Magara is really nice as well.
- 16:07Yeah, I I hear they were going for something a bit more
- 16:09sophisticated. And they were going for a a Star
- 16:13Warsy thing, wouldn't they? With a with a floating sphere.
- 16:17But I really like, I just really like the twinkly lights that
- 16:20when they talk, they get bigger and smaller.
- 16:23Yeah. It's more Doctor Who, isn't it?
- 16:26Like Doctor Who shouldn't be Star Wars.
- 16:31It's 2 totally different universes, aren't I?
- 16:34Oh. Please.
- 16:36Well, I don't. Think you could ever crossover?
- 16:39Why would you say that to me, Glenn?
- 16:41What are the top 3 differences between Star Wars and Doctor Who
- 16:45universes? Oh my, you just.
- 16:48Stated it as a fact there. They're, they're, I don't know,
- 16:55they're just, pardon the pun, but they're worlds apart.
- 17:00In a Galaxy far, far away. Far, far away in hyperspace.
- 17:05I mean, you could. I just don't think the two would
- 17:08work together. I don't know why can't see.
- 17:12Tom Baker and Han Solo going on an adventure together.
- 17:15It just wouldn't happen, would it?
- 17:17Or Rumford sitting in the cantina on my side.
- 17:22I would love to see that though. Yeah, it's just two totally
- 17:28different. Imagine.
- 17:30Oh yeah. What's his name?
- 17:31Greedo. The assassin.
- 17:32Imagine. Oh, aren't you a strange little
- 17:35fellow? Put that gun away now.
- 17:41Yeah. Oh, she'd love R2D2, wouldn't
- 17:42she? Yes, Amelia Rumford and R2D2.
- 17:45Now you are talking boy. But I think I think Star Wars is
- 17:52a bit more black and white in its portrayal of good and evil.
- 17:58And I don't want to say it, but it's because it sounds like I'm
- 18:02dissing Doctor Who, but I'm not. It's more glitzy, whereas Doctor
- 18:09Who's more homely. And there's space in in genre,
- 18:14isn't there for both of those, I think.
- 18:16Yeah. But, and I think Doctor Who's
- 18:18scarier than Star Wars. Oh, Death.
- 18:22Yeah, yeah. Star, Star Wars.
- 18:23There's. I don't think there's anything
- 18:25scary about Star Wars really, apart from when you get into the
- 18:29deep politics of it. But.
- 18:32But I think that Star Wars is more exciting and pacey than
- 18:37Doctor Who. Yeah.
- 18:41I mean you're the You're the Lucky 1 because you're a fan of
- 18:43both, so you get the best of both worlds.
- 18:45Yeah, I think you say it's more pacey.
- 18:49I think in regards to the films it is.
- 18:52But there have been some Star Wars serials that have been
- 18:56dull. What?
- 18:57What are you talking about there?
- 18:58So what's the top three dullest Star Wars serials?
- 19:01Top three dullest yeah would be the acolyte.
- 19:05OK. I I did not enjoy that at all.
- 19:08I don't. Know what that is?
- 19:09But go on. Yeah, the skeleton crew wasn't
- 19:15very. It was fast-paced.
- 19:18It was. I mean, it's probably only
- 19:23really then two that I'm not keen on.
- 19:24I mean, Andor was absolutely brilliant.
- 19:27I loved Andor. I rely.
- 19:29Obi Wan. Obi Wan was good, yeah.
- 19:32Bob Affett I don't think got a fair, fair chance.
- 19:37I think when Bob Affett came out Mandalorian was massive and Bob
- 19:43Affett halfway through the series turned back into
- 19:45Mandalorian to me. I don't think Bob Bob Affett
- 19:50could have been so much more. I mean, I'll say something about
- 19:53Star Wars. It's still going and I don't
- 19:55know how Doctor Who is at the moment.
- 19:57No, no. But I mean, Star Wars has got, I
- 20:05suppose, a bigger bucket to keep dipping into.
- 20:09Yeah, yeah. Yeah, well, and also, you know,
- 20:11that enormous bloody theme park, and they're making a lot of
- 20:14money out of Star Wars. They are but.
- 20:17You don't get scenes like this of being a Rumford in her living
- 20:21room trying to find evidence to expose Sasir of Diplos.
- 20:26Exactly, and as much as I love Star Wars, I would rather see
- 20:30this. Star Wars doesn't give you a hug
- 20:33like that, does it? No, it doesn't.
- 20:34Star Wars is just the wow wow factor.
- 20:37Spectacular, basically like a battle in space, explosions and
- 20:45bright lights. This is this is more homely
- 20:49cosy. Sometimes there's space for
- 20:54going down those exhaust ports and blowing up the Death Star,
- 20:58and other times there's time to sit and have sausage sandwiches
- 21:03by the fire whilst 2 campers are turned into emaciated skeletons.
- 21:09Exactly. I've got sometimes that quite
- 21:11well actually. That was that was, that should
- 21:14be the the thesis for this episode.
- 21:19Star Wars V Doctor Who. Space for all, let's say.
- 21:23Yeah. Oh, why is she looking like
- 21:27that? What does that look for?
- 21:29That that was almost a Harry H Corbett look.
- 21:33Yeah, or, you know, straight out the camera you have been
- 21:37watching Doctor Who. Starring Beatrix, Lehman and
- 21:44Susan. Engel.
- 21:47OK, now. Oh, I see.
- 21:50I remember what he does. He gets himself knocked out,
- 21:52doesn't he? And her.
- 21:55And he goes, my God, you know, you've got a So he has himself
- 21:59executed. She gets knocked out and he goes
- 22:01right quick. You better see if her brain
- 22:03cells have been damaged. You've just hurt her.
- 22:05It's quite clever actually. Now that that bit of equipment,
- 22:13computer, whatever you want to call it, behind her, as in the
- 22:17semicircular bit, you can spot that throughout so many Jerry
- 22:23Anderson shows and so many Doctor Who episodes.
- 22:27Was there a lot of props and sets and things that went from
- 22:30one to the other? Between Yeah, because I think
- 22:36even one of the Sonic screwdrivers was used as to make
- 22:40a rocket or some sort of ship or something.
- 22:43I do remember in one of the documentaries, Matt Irving said
- 22:46that they bought out a load of Jerry Anderson spaceship models
- 22:50and they sort of cannibalised them and then made new
- 22:53spaceships out of them and things.
- 22:56But you've got to be a deep, you've got to be a deep Jerry
- 22:59Anderson geek to be able to spot a recannibalised spaceship.
- 23:03How deep are you, Glenn? That's pretty much up to me
- 23:08neck. Yeah, that's.
- 23:13As deep as you can get. I can.
- 23:16I can see that computer there behind her on Moon Base Alpha as
- 23:20we speak. Oh my God, moon base.
- 23:24Is that space 1999? Yeah.
- 23:27Ding, Ding, Ding, Ding, Ding, Ding, Ding, Ding.
- 23:30The music's brilliant. Yeah.
- 23:32Oh, look, I'm going to spin round like Barbara Bay.
- 23:34Are you ready? Without a single expression on
- 23:39my face. Excellent.
- 23:42Who has least expression on their face?
- 23:44Yeah, Barbara Bain in Space 1999 or Gates McFadden in Star Trek?
- 23:50The Next Generation, I think. That's a tough one.
- 23:55Yeah, I reckon Barbara Bain might just edge in front of that
- 23:59one. Barbara Payne's doing.
- 24:02What did you say? It didn't.
- 24:04It didn't take long, did it, for the old age to come in.
- 24:09Soon as I said that, I thought. Barbara Payne, get away from me,
- 24:13please. For God's sakes, control
- 24:16yourself, woman. Actually, which doctor would you
- 24:18rather have, you know, perform surgery on you?
- 24:22Doctor Crusher or whatever her name is in Space 99.
- 24:34You get all the tough questions here on.
- 24:35Hamster. It's going to be Doctor Crusher,
- 24:38I think. Oh, you like a redhead deer?
- 24:41I like a redhead is. Your wife a redhead?
- 24:44No. Well, let's hope she don't
- 24:47listen to this then. I don't think there's much
- 24:50danger of that. If she don't watch the shows.
- 24:58She might be listening to the EastEnders podcast though.
- 25:01She might well be. I mean, they must have at least
- 25:04one listener somewhere. You bitch, I'm sure there's an
- 25:11enormous fandom out there for EastEnders.
- 25:14They must be. He's been going a while, isn't
- 25:16it? They're called the Get Out of My
- 25:18Pub crowd, yeah. Yeah.
- 25:21Oh bloody hell. There it is.
- 25:24You know Tom will throw himself about the set like that,
- 25:27wouldn't he? He will.
- 25:30Canine shooting the ugly man, it's just the best now.
- 25:36I like the way that Tom forced to the floor sort of ramshackle
- 25:40and Vivian Faye decorously sort of looking every inch the queen
- 25:48there. What else have we seen her in?
- 25:53I've definitely seen her in like A Midsummer Murders and she does
- 25:57like sun Sunday night TV. I've seen her do it, but she's
- 26:00done a lot of theatre as well. She reads the audio book you
- 26:04know is. She.
- 26:07Yeah, really well as well. I never never really got on to
- 26:11the audio book Big Finish wagon. I think when Big Finish first
- 26:16started, I, I, I think I probably bought 3 or 4.
- 26:22Then it just went crazy, didn't it?
- 26:24And then it's not. I'm not.
- 26:26I'm too old now to catch up with all that.
- 26:29I don't normally do this sort of thing, but I'm going to give you
- 26:31some life advice. Yeah, there really isn't space
- 26:35either in your walls there, which is taken up with Star Wars
- 26:38figures, or in your bank account to have Star Wars and Big Finish
- 26:43in your life. No, I couldn't all time.
- 26:47All time. Yeah, Yeah, you're too busy
- 26:49listening to this bullshit. For God's sake, come.
- 26:53On now. You could be listening to
- 26:54professional actors doing their stuff.
- 26:57Well, that's just more fun, isn't it?
- 26:59Yeah, well, I mean, I, I like to think so, but yes, indeed.
- 27:05Do you know, I've only just realized, you know, all that
- 27:08makeup is all over her tits. I hope it was a female makeup
- 27:13designer. That took you a while to notice
- 27:15that, Joe. Yeah, I didn't take you too long
- 27:19though, did it? I don't look at ladies like
- 27:25that. Good grief.
- 27:26I mean, except Linda Baron, but you can't miss.
- 27:29Them you can catch you. Captain Rack's rack is amazing.
- 27:36Oh, look at his. Face.
- 27:39Actually, that could be that you have been watching bit, couldn't
- 27:41it? You've.
- 27:42Been that was brilliant. Susan Engle Oh, do you know the
- 27:48behind the scenes bit here where he grabs the necklace and on the
- 27:53first take the catch didn't do and he dragged her by the
- 27:57necklace? Oh dear.
- 28:01Yeah, that's why she looked a bit scared that time.
- 28:05That was Take 2. Understandably so, I.
- 28:10Mean, this is sort of horrible. She's just been turned into an
- 28:13enormous rock. This is this is like a bit of
- 28:17Children of the stones in there. Do you like that?
- 28:21I love. It and.
- 28:26Then I'm like, my God, what's Blake doing here?
- 28:33That's the sort of serious drama he wanted to do after, you know,
- 28:36leaving Blake 7. Or was it before?
- 28:38I'm not sure. I think it might have been
- 28:41before mine. Actually, I think you're fine.
- 28:43You know Garen from the Rebus operation is in Children of the
- 28:47Stone. Is he?
- 28:50I can't. I'll never let you forget that
- 28:53you said that at the start of this call.
- 28:55All right. I've got I've got a question for
- 29:00you then just saying that saying there what weird question, but
- 29:04what's your favorite TARDIS prop?
- 29:07Which one? You mean the actual TARDIS?
- 29:11The actual the actual exterior, the police box, because there
- 29:15there's. No, I think it's the 80s one.
- 29:19It's around sort of Collins time, the the 80s.
- 29:22One, yeah. Gorgeous.
- 29:24But I really like Jodie's as well.
- 29:27So yeah, I've got one for classic A new What about you?
- 29:31This one, that's what reminds me is this one here it's the the
- 29:35exterior. I know because this is the one
- 29:37that's looks nothing like a real police box, but to me, for some
- 29:42reason, that's just my favorite. And the interior, it's such a
- 29:47squat little, little police box, but I love it.
- 29:50I've got a similar sort of question for you, actually.
- 29:53Why didn't Amelia Romford wear a bra during this scene?
- 29:57Well, this is a question that has often passed through my void
- 30:05in my head many a time, and I've never.
- 30:07Often, you say Often. OK, but I've I've never had
- 30:11anyone that looks like a quark sitting there, doesn't it?
- 30:15It does. I've never had even more low.
- 30:20Budget than the originals, yeah. You don't cut the door on the
- 30:24front. I like to think she's just a
- 30:27woman of the world. You know she don't need a bra.
- 30:31She don't. She might have been in a hurry.
- 30:34Well. I mean, no one was going to
- 30:35argue with her and tell her, were they?
- 30:37Not with a truncheon error, and no, although she does have her
- 30:42academic career to think about, doesn't she?
- 30:46This is true. This this this being the height
- 30:49of her career, obviously. How much of A joy is that story?
- 30:54I've got a joy like. Oh my God, it's so great.
- 30:58Well, now look, I I've put you in the disadvantageous position
- 31:04of having to list so many top threes throughout this last two
- 31:08hours. Now you have to list your three
- 31:11fabulous things to recommend the Stones of Blood.
- 31:15Now you go first. I'll jump in after you and we'll
- 31:17go back and forth, all right? Yeah, well, I feel one of us is
- 31:22going to say it, so I'm going to jump in and say it first.
- 31:26It's got to be Amelia Rumford. Oh.
- 31:28You bastard. Yeah, go on.
- 31:31Why? Why?
- 31:32She steals the show. She she absolutely steals that.
- 31:40And I cannot imagine anyone else doing that.
- 31:44What she did. There's nobody else I don't
- 31:48think could have done that. So yeah, I'm going to go with
- 31:50her for the first one. I think it's her last job, you
- 31:53know, it's her last job as a actress.
- 31:56Yeah, I was going to say earlier, like when we were
- 31:59saying about the height of her career.
- 32:00I can't think of anything after that she was in.
- 32:04I mean, I can imagine her being in something like Howard's Why
- 32:07or something like that, but I can't remember seeing her in
- 32:09anything else. Well, yeah.
- 32:13Martha's 1 is going to be just the stones, man.
- 32:17The stones of blood dragging their asses around the English
- 32:21countryside and sucking people dry.
- 32:24I mean, it's the most doctor Hooray idea you could possibly
- 32:27have. Because they're simultaneously
- 32:30extremely sinister and a bit shit.
- 32:36Yeah, but that's Doctor Ho. It is what sinister and shit.
- 32:40It's, it's, it's extremely great and a bit shit.
- 32:46Well, what's that? What might say, I'm going to say
- 32:49Mary Tam, I think, or Ramana. I thought you might.
- 32:52Yeah. Yeah.
- 32:54Because I I've in all the key to time, obviously it's my favorite
- 32:59story. I think this is the one where
- 33:01she she shines the most to me. She's she's such an authority
- 33:08and she's it just makes such a nice change to have a companion
- 33:15on the screen that's not screaming and kicking and asking
- 33:20stupid, dumb questions. And all right, you got to be
- 33:24aware she's hanging off the Cliff.
- 33:25But you know, we can live with that.
- 33:30So few classic Doctor Who stories can ace the Bechdel
- 33:34test. That's two women having a
- 33:35conversation that's not about a man, and the Stones of Blood
- 33:39does it about four times. And it's so rare.
- 33:43I mean, we've just come out of Hinchcliffe where you're lucky
- 33:45in a season, if you have a woman apart from the companion in any
- 33:48of the stories, to have Amelia and Vivian, Faye and Romana all
- 33:54in one scene to it's just gorgeous.
- 33:56Yeah, it is. It's it's a refreshing change
- 33:59and it's bloody good TV that's. Right.
- 34:02Well, OK, my second one then is going to be just the whole set
- 34:06piece of. At the start of episode 3, in
- 34:10the course of science and then him doing the ball fighting, I,
- 34:14I just. Think that to me is Doctor Who.
- 34:17It isn't taking itself too seriously.
- 34:19It is a little bit creepy. It's well filmed.
- 34:23I mean, even Dottie Simpson gets in it right where he's like,
- 34:30it's just blissful. So just that set piece is my #2.
- 34:35Yeah, excellent stuff. I think for my third one, it's
- 34:41got to be just the way it transitions from the hammery
- 34:47horrory into the science fictiony, like 2-2 separate
- 34:53stories connected into one. And it's it's well done as well,
- 34:58the way they do it and believing.
- 35:01Dangerously close there to being Steven Moffat.
- 35:04Hammery, Horrory. Sorry, be fictiony.
- 35:10I'm not going to say it. I nearly said it, but I won't
- 35:12say it. Is there any, is there any of
- 35:16that? And it's not really that, well,
- 35:17I suppose hyperspace is sort of a bit, you know what?
- 35:22Yeah. Yeah, it is.
- 35:25Well, my last thing then is going to be because I think
- 35:28everyone gives them a hard time. It's just the Megara.
- 35:31I just think as a visual, it's fun and quirky.
- 35:34They're great comic performances from the two actors playing
- 35:37them. And it just allows Tom to just
- 35:40vamp on the screen and be funny and silly and, and just, you
- 35:44know, masterful. Tom is the master of comedy, I
- 35:48think at his best. And those scenes where we
- 35:51basically savage the legal system, it's just glorious.
- 35:56And you can tell Tom's enjoying himself.
- 35:59Yeah, well, he's already having a great time with old Beatrix
- 36:01Lehman, isn't? He.
- 36:03Even though she's telling him off a bit.
- 36:05Yeah, but I think he kind of likes that, really.
- 36:08Maybe you should come onto hamster, you know, and do that
- 36:10to me, Joe. Now don't look.
- 36:12This is not what we discussed, You know, are you going to do it
- 36:14like that? Yeah, I'll be.
- 36:17I'll be Brumford. Can you beat the Beatrix Lehman
- 36:20of a hamster? A blood pen knife.
- 36:23I could give it a go. Many have tried Glenn.
- 36:26Many have tried. Many have failed.
- 36:30Can I say an enormous thank you for coming on today, for talking
- 36:33about your story as well, because that I love hearing
- 36:36everybody's sort of personal journeys for enjoying this story
- 36:40with me. And just to open your opening
- 36:43yourself out to enjoying Doctor Who with somebody else.
- 36:47I think it's just a wonderful thing.
- 36:50You're you're most welcome and thank you for asking me because
- 36:55like I said earlier, it's been nearly 30 years since I've
- 36:58watched Doctor Who with someone else.
- 37:01Yeah. Has it been a chore?
- 37:03It's been a good laugh, is what it's been.
- 37:07I'm not lying when I say I've got jaw right.
- 37:09Can I? I don't want you coming at me
- 37:12this afternoon whinging that your face is hurting because I
- 37:15made you laugh. All right, that is your affair.
- 37:17Get some painkillers in. What I am going to say is if
- 37:21people should wish to find you online, as if you want these
- 37:25weirdos that are listening to find you online, where?
- 37:28Where would they find you? I will be on Blue Sky just under
- 37:33Glenn Fitzgerald. I mean I am on Instagram but
- 37:38that's mainly just my model stuff.
- 37:41Oh, I'm going to go and have a look.
- 37:44That'll be cool. What the hell is that called?
- 37:48Canon? Canon Lane micro layouts.
- 37:51And I'm on Facebook as well, but that's more just military
- 37:54history stuff. So for Doctor Who and horror
- 37:58films and things, I'll be on Blue Sky under my name.
- 38:01Can you hear this man? Military history, models, Jerry
- 38:05Anderson, horror movies, Star Wars?
- 38:08Doctor Who? Man oh man, what a pleasure it
- 38:11has been to get to know you today.
- 38:13Well, thank you very much, but Doctor Ho is my #1 so I'll drop
- 38:18everything else for Doctor Ho. One more question to ask you,
- 38:22Mr. Glenn Fitzgerald. Where are we going next time?
- 38:28Well I'd be honoured if there's a next sign.
- 38:33Don't know, maybe some a bit. Colin Bakery.
- 38:36Oh please, please, anything. Although I have done time Lash
- 38:41and revelation of the dialects recently and trial actually.
- 38:44Oh man, there's only actually a couple I haven't.
- 38:47Oh, I mean, could we do vengeance on Varos?
- 38:50That could be a lot of. Fun vengeance on Varos.
- 38:53Would you rate the murders with me?
- 38:56Oh hell yeah, that would be quite.
- 38:58Fun, wouldn't it? You can't deny that would be
- 39:03brilliant. And it would give you a chance
- 39:06to Polish your helmet. I yeah, I can quite often sit
- 39:12there in the afternoon polishing that.
- 39:17Oh my God, It's a big old helmet, Joe.
- 39:19It takes a while. Well, that's good to know.
- 39:23That is, you know, good. You're going to be inundated
- 39:25with PMS now, I'll say Glenn. Thank you so much for your time
- 39:31today, it's been a joy. Most welcome.
- 39:34Thank you for inviting me, it's been a pleasure.
