- 0:00The following program is produced by the Tech Talk Radio Network. Hey this comedian
- 0:04Kathleen Meddigan, and you're listening to tech Talk Radio. Who is something I
- 0:07will never be listening to because I hate technology. But for those of you,
- 0:11the two vise are your guys. Welcome to another episode of tech Talk
- 0:18Radio. I'm Andy Taylor, I'm Sean de Weird, and I'm Justin Lemmey.
- 0:22Welcome. It's good to have us all back here. Bett is out
- 0:26fixing an aquarium and corralling some cats and I'm surprised. I'm awake. Yes,
- 0:32we are too. Okay, speaking of that, Yeah, I had
- 0:35an elephant in the room. That's a pretty big elephant to the big elephant.
- 0:40If you notice the name of this week's show is I've Got a Secret.
- 0:45Yeah, yeah, a secret that Sean swears people everybody. Now,
- 0:49let's let's fill our listeners. In last week we did a best of because
- 0:54we were all kind of busy with work and life and everything and including Sean,
- 0:59and Sean texting me. He was like, hey, uh, can
- 1:03you call me real quick? And I was like, yeah, sure,
- 1:04I'll call you. So I called Sean and he's like, I'm gonna feel
- 1:07like a really bad friend for saying this, And I'm like, uh,
- 1:11oh, we did I do something wrong? Like, are you gonna?
- 1:14I was? I was seriously for a moment, I was wondering if Sean
- 1:19was the guy that you guys picked to say that you're no longer welcome on
- 1:23tech talk radio. Oh, Like I thought maybe Sean was gonna be that
- 1:26guy. Oh no, you know, because he's my friend. Yeah.
- 1:29Let me let me ask you. How long have you guys been friends?
- 1:33Uh, twenty eleven, twenty two, When did you started fucking? Twenty
- 1:37twelve, twenty twelve? All right? Was it twenty twelve? Okay,
- 1:38twenty twelve. Yeah, that's when he met. And it was funny.
- 1:42The first time I met Sean is he walks into our engineering department and just
- 1:47starts rifling through all of our tools. And we have this rule that we
- 1:51don't allow photographers to rifle through our tools. I could see because they never
- 1:55bring them back. Yeah, and Sean, I'm like, Hi, who
- 1:59are you? And he's like, oh, I'm Sean. I just need
- 2:00something more quick. I'm like, uh yeah, that's kind of ours and
- 2:05he's like, don't worry, I'll bring about back, and sure enough he
- 2:07brought it back and I'm like, okay, you're good, you know.
- 2:09Yeah. Anyway, so I called Sean and he's like, I'm feeling like
- 2:13a bad friend here, and I'm like, why, what's going on?
- 2:15What's what's happening. He goes, well, Caitlin's pregnant, and again Kaitlyn
- 2:21is Sean's wife. And I was like, oh my god, that's awesome.
- 2:24That's that's awesome. That's so I'm so happy for you. Why do
- 2:28you why do you feel like a bad friend? When does the baby do?
- 2:31Uh tomorrow? I'm like, wait, what this really happened? This
- 2:38really happened. I swear on my parents, my grandpa, whatever, I
- 2:44swear on everything holy to me that we had this conversation and we did a
- 2:47segment about Kitlen Big pregnant. It's like we did with Max. Well ago,
- 2:53no, you did that with Max. You did not do that with
- 2:54your second baby. No, this is a This was a complete shock that.
- 2:59It was like, okay, so yeah, when's it. We have
- 3:01the same reaction, you know, oh, this is awesome. When did
- 3:05when'd your baby do? What the heck, dude, baby is due tomorrow?
- 3:07We did we did. We did eight months of shows together, ay,
- 3:13and an eight month You never once thought that maybe I should tell them?
- 3:17Yeah, so that's I don't know what happened there. When it comes
- 3:22to number three, you better tell us. Yeah. Yeah, Well I
- 3:27don't have to remind you of their birthday because it won't happen for another four
- 3:30years. Yeah. So you actually right, you had a leap your baby
- 3:35which number one. Congratulations to you both, right, that's awesome. So
- 3:38so Daniel Daniel James Duird was born seven to fifty PM on February twenty ninth,
- 3:46twenty twenty four. Wow, so amazing. So I sent him the
- 3:49meme from Titanic with the old lady at the very end of the movie saying
- 3:53it's been eighty four years. And if you do the math, the meme
- 3:57works out. The meme says, when somebody born on leap year gets to
- 4:02finally drink legally, Oh wow, is it really well? Think about it?
- 4:06Every four years, yeah, twenty one years old. Every four years
- 4:12means you're eighty five, eighty four, whatever it works, It's been eighty
- 4:17four years, you know what. I What I thought was so weird about
- 4:20leap here too, not to get away from that is, you know,
- 4:24people on Facebook memories, they you know, I always every day I take
- 4:28a look what was going on last year or the year before or whatnot.
- 4:31People had they couldn't see what was going on last year because well there was
- 4:35no day last year. They have to go back four years in four year
- 4:40increments. So as as society progresses and they use services like that, leap
- 4:45here is always going to be different for the little one. Let me let
- 4:48me ask you Sean a quick question. When you've found out that you guys
- 4:53were pregnant, did the doctor tell you that there's a chance, but just
- 4:58a baby? So the do date was March twelfth, but that would have
- 5:02been forty weeks, right, Okay, So just because the way Caylen had
- 5:08been progressing on her last oh be appointment, they said, well, I
- 5:12think we're good at thirty eight weeks, which is technically considered a full term.
- 5:15He's like, we can induce in thirty eight weeks was the twenty ninth?
- 5:19Oh wow? Wow? They won't. Most hospitals won't take inductions pre
- 5:26thirty eight weeks. So he just said, you know what, it's time.
- 5:30The baby's really big. So if I think it'll work out. Her
- 5:34last ob be appointment, he said, you're pretty much progressing already, so
- 5:38let's just get it under way. We went into the hospital Wednesday, the
- 5:41twenty eighth at seven pm, and overnight they moved her into the labor delivery
- 5:46room, and then things progressed throughout the day, and then around six thirty
- 5:50she's like, this baby's coming, oh wowow. And then you know,
- 5:56the our doctor was in surgery doing surgery on other patients, so he's like,
- 6:01just hold off if you can for half an hour. Tell her that.
- 6:06Yeah. So she did as long as she could, and about seven
- 6:10thirty the doctor came up and at seven fifty Daniel was born. So we
- 6:14didn't know if it was going to be a boy or a girl. So
- 6:15a funny story about the girl name that we'd picked. Calen's sister had a
- 6:19baby on the twenty and the twelfth of February, so just about just over
- 6:27two weeks ago. They named her baby Caroline Ann. Wow. All right.
- 6:33Our girl name was Caroline Geene. Oh wow. So then when we
- 6:41talked to them after Daniel was born, we just kind of, you know,
- 6:44hey, it's kind of funny that you know, we picked Caroline,
- 6:46and you guys named your baby Caroline, Like, well, if it would
- 6:49have been a boy, we would have named it Daniel. What really,
- 6:56so we did not share this between family groups. You don't share anything.
- 7:00We have found out the fact that, yeah, exactly, yeah, we
- 7:05don't. But the fact that they had picked the same boy and girl name
- 7:11for their second as we did is just I don't know if I'm not.
- 7:16It's really crazy because it's like we thought it was funny that they picked Caroline
- 7:20and then we picked Daniel, and then they're like, well, it's funny
- 7:24because you picked Daniel, but Caro, I would have been a boy,
- 7:27it would have been Daniel. Well, you know, somewhat of a similar
- 7:30situation. When I was born my parents, my parents picked for me for
- 7:34the boy was obviously Justin, which is my name, But for for a
- 7:39girl they picked Sarah. And my mom's sister had a baby and they were
- 7:46gonna pick Dustin for the boy and Sarah for the girl and ended up being
- 7:51a girl. So I have a cousin named Sarah. Yeah, so I
- 7:58would have been a Sarah if I a girl, right, And Sarah would
- 8:01have been a Dustin if she was a boy. Wow, that is a
- 8:05trip. And to touch back on the leap yer portion of it, Caleb's
- 8:09cousin does have a son who was also a leap baby, so he called
- 8:13us. He's like, he's twelve maybe exp whatever that turn of three three,
- 8:20and she was very excited to have a family member who could share his
- 8:22birthday with it. Let me ask you this then. Okay, so this
- 8:26begs the question, when are you going to celebrate his birthday Daniel's birthday.
- 8:30Are you going to celebrate on February twenty eighth or are you going to celebrate
- 8:33on March first? Great question? Yeah, are you going to celebrate kind
- 8:37of like a small birthday on those days? But then every four years you're
- 8:41going to throw a massive birthday. It's going to be hard with another child
- 8:46also, who how do you make them feel as special, if not special,
- 8:50on their birthday when you're gonna throw a big party for somebody every four
- 8:56year, like every four years, there's going to be this big thing surrounding.
- 9:00Yeah, that's true, that's true. It's kind of hard. It's
- 9:03kind of hard to think about that. I would like to think that we
- 9:05would do it the twenty eighth and March first kind of like do a duel,
- 9:09like a two days. Well then well hold on then then maxill be
- 9:11like, yo, this this guy gets a double birthday and I get a
- 9:16single you know, yeah, I know. We used to do We used
- 9:18to do this with our girls because they were they were a year and ten
- 9:22months apart, so Scarlet and Destiny we would do an unbirthday, so you
- 9:26have one celebrates a birthday, the other celebrates an unbirthday, and the same
- 9:31thing for the other one. So it always worked out that way, So
- 9:35there was they always felt like they were a part of it. It kind
- 9:37of always made it made it feel okay. You know. That was something
- 9:41from Alice in Wonderland. Luckily we didn't have to do that with the kids
- 9:43that were older, just the ones that were they were so close and so
- 9:46young. It just made them feel okay good, you know, once they
- 9:50got to it certain age. But I never thought of the conundrum of celebrating
- 9:54a birthday when there is no leap day, you know, for that that
- 9:58year, Like wow, I never even thought about that. Yeah, well,
- 10:01yeah, you got it. How does that How does that complicate things?
- 10:05Right? Like, how does that complicate things? For driver's licenses and
- 10:11others other things that have birthdays on them. Yeah. You know, say
- 10:15he turns twenty one on his twenty first birthday, his what is his twenty
- 10:18first birthday? Oh that's right. Well once ITAs he won't be there won't
- 10:26be a twenty night birthday. He'd be like five and a half, but
- 10:31there would be a twenty night on his birthday. It's like the conundra where
- 10:35you take a two dollars US two dollar bill and you go to try and
- 10:37buy something with it. People that don't know that a two dollars bill is
- 10:41real, right, Oh yeah, they're going to say, well this is
- 10:45are going to say this is a fake ID. I got my driver's license
- 10:48the day I turned sixteen. So yeah, I like, when when is
- 10:52he going to be able to get that? You know? Again, that's
- 10:54wow. I want to tell you guys a funny story that happened to me
- 10:58on the eve of my twenty first birthday. Oh really, I was you
- 11:03know, I was living in Tucson. I was up in Oral Valley and
- 11:07I went to the Fries supermarket. I think Fries is still there in Tucson,
- 11:09right, yeah, they got it? Okay, Okay, yeah.
- 11:13Well, yeah, I haven't been there in years. So anyway, I
- 11:16went to the Fries and at the time, you know, they sold alcohol,
- 11:18they sold they had an entire alcohol aisle with spirits, beer, wine,
- 11:24everything, right, So it was like eleven thirty at night and I
- 11:28walk into Fries and I start perusing the alcohol aisle, yeah, because I've
- 11:35got thirty minutes to kill before i can legally buy alcohol. And they start
- 11:41watching me like a hawk because they think I'm gonna They think I'm gonna do
- 11:45a run, right, I'm gonna look like a kid at that age.
- 11:48Well yeah, I remember, it looked like a kid. Yeah, what
- 11:50are you talking about? But anyway, so I'm like I'm perusing. I
- 11:54got my little basket, and in your basket, you've got, at your
- 11:58legal age coming soon, all the spirits you want to try out. And
- 12:01then I turned around to start walking towards the cash register, and there's like
- 12:05three employees kind of like standing in my way of the front door, and
- 12:09I'm like, no worries, guys, I'm here to buy, you know,
- 12:13like, don't worry about it. I walk over the cash register,
- 12:16I set and there's nobody in the store besides me. I put my beer
- 12:20down on the little conveyor belt. The conveyor belt starts shifting. The lady
- 12:24starts to grab it, and I go, hold on a second, and
- 12:28she's like what what what? I go just wait and I look at my
- 12:31watch. Five four three two one, Okay, now you can ring it
- 12:37up. She's like, wait what And I give her my ID and she's
- 12:41like, oh my god, happy birthday and she scanned it and the little
- 12:46the little cash register actually played happy Birthday. No it didn't. There's like
- 12:52it was like like an eight bit song, you know, like ait,
- 12:54it was like and I got the cash out and my liquor. That is
- 13:01awesome things we remember. All right, we have listener question. We're gonna
- 13:07pose the question right now. We'll come back, we'll we'll give you the
- 13:11answer to what we think about. This came from Mark in Tucson. Mark
- 13:15says, can you guys recommend a webcam? I have one on my laptop
- 13:18and have been haven't been too pleased with it. The quality leaves much to
- 13:24be desired, which probably like the what I have on mine. All right,
- 13:28so why don't we, you know, break that down when we come
- 13:30back. We can actually talk about that and maybe give a couple of suggestions.
- 13:35We'll be back with more of tech talk Radio. I'm Andy Taylor,
- 13:37I'm Sean de Weird, and I'm Justin. Let me find us on the
- 13:41web at tech talkRADIO dot com. We'll be right back and now back to
- 13:45tech talk Radio. So before the break, Andy poses this question from viewer
- 13:50Mark. He said, can you guys recommend me a webcam or my computer?
- 13:54The one on his laptop just isn't doing justice, and that's to be
- 13:58expected. Those and your little tiny cameras are their garbage, all right?
- 14:03Can I tell you about my laptop camera? And I love my laptop.
- 14:07I'm very happy with my Lenovo Lesion laptop. The camera is not at the
- 14:13top of the bezel on the screen. It's at the bottom. So no
- 14:18matter what you do, you get that doin So, yeah, what what
- 14:20you do? That camera is shooting up into your face, so you've got
- 14:24that double chin. You could see the nose and all the acne underneath your
- 14:30beard. Yeah. The the on camera beyond webcam, on the on camera
- 14:35webcams for laptops and even MacBooks, the quality of those cameras is not good,
- 14:41all right, So what what should Mark be looking at? So for
- 14:46me and and there actually is a good supply of USB webcams, get right,
- 14:50You had an influx of really garbage webcams come round after COVID. Vendors
- 14:56just start putting out really really cheap quality plastic lens is, small sensors,
- 15:01just whatever they can afford to send out during COVID because everybody is buying used
- 15:05be webcams. Everybody's prices skyrocketed during COVID. For even like seven twenty P
- 15:11laptops, we're running one hundred and twenty and forty dollars. But now those
- 15:16prices are much much lower and you can find them on Amazon and stuff.
- 15:20But for my recommendation, I would stay with some of the more known brands
- 15:26for webcams Logitech, Dell, Anchor. And then if you want to get
- 15:33into if you're looking for something a little bit more on the broadcast side,
- 15:37or looking for something a little bit more like meeting friendly, if you're doing
- 15:41small meetings or large meetings, Razor makes one. They call it the key
- 15:46Kyo Pro. Really, Algatto makes one. They have a al Gatto facecam.
- 15:52If you if you're familiar with Algato, with the stream deck, those
- 15:54tapes of things. It integrates with all those their systems. Let me just
- 15:58ask, let me just mention this real quick. So just a differentry eate.
- 16:00Right, we're talking about like regular quality. You're gonna look at Logitech
- 16:07or Dell or maybe Anchor. But if you want to get something better,
- 16:11you're probably gonna want to Google for a broadcast quality webcam. Okay, yeah,
- 16:17something that's gonna do ten EIGHTP sixty finist per second. Now, the
- 16:21Dell and Logitech they have those also, Right, it's gonna be USB three
- 16:26or USBC. Right, those are the way the connection types you get.
- 16:29But if you're looking for something a little bit larger, because these are the
- 16:33Logitech and Dell ones are the ones that can mount on top of your monitor,
- 16:36they're small form factor, they're not gonna take them aho lot of space.
- 16:38But then you can get into the higher quality ones that are gonna be
- 16:41larger because they have a larger censor size in them, so the image quality
- 16:45is better. Now they're they're gonna throw numbers at you like ten EIGHTP seven
- 16:51to twenty p four k. Right, that's just the number of pixels,
- 16:55right, Okay, that the pixels for sensor, right, the number of
- 17:00pixels per sensor. The larger the sensor, the larger the pixels are.
- 17:04So if you cram a small sensor in there and claim it has four K,
- 17:08the pixels are really tiny, so your image quality is not as good
- 17:12because there's a lot smaller detail and there's a lot more information to cram into
- 17:18a smaller sensor. So if you get a larger sensor size, and there's
- 17:22different sizes you can google that. I'm not going to go into that.
- 17:25You get a larger sensor, the cameras obviously got to be a little bit
- 17:27bigger. You get more, you get the same number of pixels, but
- 17:33they're larger, so they capture more light, they capture more details. So
- 17:36that's why larger cameras that have larger sensors get better quality videos. Well,
- 17:41another thing too, is if you get let's say you get a four K
- 17:47capable camera, right, Okay, it's not going to really do you any
- 17:52good to spend that extra money to get a four K because there's not a
- 17:56lot of people out there that even have a four K monitor that can see
- 18:00you on the other side, correct, So you're spending money for no reason.
- 18:06Where it's at ten ten ADP for for these types of things is going
- 18:08to be perfect right in the middle. It's gonna get you what you want.
- 18:12So Dell Logitical they all have them, Algato Razor and then if you
- 18:18want to spend the money. We have these at work and we use them
- 18:19for our conference rooms, the Hugby i Q, so the h U D
- 18:23d L a Hugby i Q. They have a camera it's called is just
- 18:29what it's called, the hell the IQ. It's for conference rooms and it
- 18:32can track who's talking and it will zoom in on them. So it's like
- 18:36if we were all in the same conference room, it would panned to the
- 18:38person talking, right, But it does it all internally in the camera,
- 18:45so it's just a smart So it's taking that four K image and zooming in
- 18:49on those different regions of yea yeah, to give you a good quality image.
- 18:55It's digital zoom, but it's it's just what it is. But they
- 18:57look really good and they can fit in our conference rooms and show you the
- 19:02whole room. It's got a super nice white angle on it. That's what
- 19:04we use at work to have the iqus for all of our little zoom rooms
- 19:07and stuff like that. So that's the eight hundred dollars option. So wow,
- 19:11yeah, uh, don't do that if you know, don't spend the
- 19:15money on that. But I just wanted to throw that one out there.
- 19:18If you're if you have the money and you want to spend it on a
- 19:19really nice high end zoom you know, USB camera, that's what I would
- 19:25What do you think about the idea of And we saw this during the pandemic,
- 19:29where again it's true getting a webcam was really difficult. People who took
- 19:34their DSLRs and they had their deal oh yeah, and their software available for
- 19:40a lot of these, they could turn them into webcams. I tried.
- 19:42I tried with mine. I couldn't make it work. So Nikon you had
- 19:45to update the firm There were firmware updates you had to do for the Nikons,
- 19:49and they didn't always provide a clean output for for the USB on the
- 19:53Nikons and some of the newer mirrorss ones they do. Cannon went the right
- 20:00way. Cannon during right after the right after Carol, what happened, They
- 20:03said, we support the USB. You know what. At the EOS firmware
- 20:08update, they updated the EOS version for all their DSLRs said you can plug
- 20:12your camera into the US being kidna up for Wow, it was a free
- 20:18update and then you just plug it in USB and your computer. You obviously
- 20:22had to power it, whether it was a battery or a power station that
- 20:29could plug into a you know, a nacy power outlet. But Cannon went
- 20:33the right way because you had a lot of other vendors that were saying you
- 20:37might just need to pay us for a license to that lock. That's that
- 20:41that right there, What you just said might make me consider Canon for my
- 20:45next because I've always been a Nikon guy. I do have an icon it's
- 20:49obviously like ten years old or more. But at this point, like if
- 20:53I ever wanted to use because I tried. I tried doing that whole streaming
- 20:57thing from home during COVID, Yeah, and I couldn't. The Nikon would
- 21:03cut out after thirty minutes. It would just it would stop operating after thirty
- 21:07minutes, and I just I couldn't deal with that. Yeah, Yeah,
- 21:10So if I were to do it one, I'd probably Yeah, Nikon just
- 21:15they dropped the ball on putting out a firmware update that would allow you to
- 21:18do untimed streaming out because they limit you on the outputs because they're their their
- 21:25their concept is all right, they're using the HDMI output, right. That's
- 21:27typically if if you're shooting and you're doing video and you want to stream it
- 21:32out, but you're taking typically taking age steam my output, that's extra processing
- 21:34which creates a lot of heat. So if you're stilming, if you're recording
- 21:40and outputting, it creates a lot of heat internally, and they had issues
- 21:45with overheating where the camera was shut down, so they put a time they
- 21:48put they put a time restriction on the time you could spend recording and outputting.
- 21:53But retroactively they didn't realize, well, it's also just the timed output.
- 21:59Yeah, so if you're just using the output, it's still timed,
- 22:00whether or not you're reporilding or not use I use a Logitech Brio, and
- 22:06I love that camera. It's a little pricey, and that one does four
- 22:11K, you know, I mean, but the ten EIGHTP portion of it
- 22:15is great. I love the different settings. Logitech builds a lot into their
- 22:19software to help a user that isn't using maybe a third party program like OBS
- 22:23or wirecasts that you could just record stuff or even utilize it within Zoom pretty
- 22:29easily. And the brios like Logitech, the stream cam is also good because
- 22:33you can then you can actually shoot it wide or you can shoot a portrait.
- 22:37So if you want to do videos on reels like Instagram reels or Facebook
- 22:42reels or even TikTok if you if you want to do that, you could
- 22:45do that because it'll be in the right aperture to do that. So again
- 22:49that's the Logitech has a lot of options. I bought a Creative Labs one
- 22:55for twenty dollars. It was on like Amazon. I wasn't too happy with
- 23:02the quality of it. I like the fact that it's got a you know,
- 23:04a screen on it, that whole bit, you know, you could
- 23:07privacy screen. But for the ten edp it just wasn't that great. Okay,
- 23:11So let me ask you guys this real quick, for Mark, for
- 23:15Mark's sake. All right, all right, We've talked about five or six
- 23:19different brands right here, I'm gonna ask you guys each the same question.
- 23:23Name one that you would go with. Andy, you go first, Logitech.
- 23:29If I wasn't doing DSLR, it'd be Logitech. Okay, Sean,
- 23:33say Logitech. If I wasn't doing my setup that I have, it'd be
- 23:36Logitech, okay, and me Logitech. Yeah, So I think it hands
- 23:40down. They have many options, the lower, lower price options, and
- 23:44then of course all the way up to the Breede you're getting the best bang
- 23:48for the buck with Logitech and the other The other thing that I will also
- 23:51suggest is if you want, if you get a Logitech. And I ran
- 23:55into this issue when I tried to do a live stream probably back in two
- 23:57thousand twelve to twenty thirteen, is some of them don't auto focus. Some
- 24:04of them are set at a two foot focus length. So if you set
- 24:10it up and are expecting to see the backside of a room or be you
- 24:12know, five feet away from your computer, like in a canvas room,
- 24:15it's not going to focus because it's only set to focus. So find something
- 24:19that can do a dynamic auto focus, or that you can roll a knob
- 24:23to focus the lens, right, So just don't get stuck with the one
- 24:26that you're expecting. Well, Okay, I'm hitting here and I'm in focus.
- 24:29But now if I back up and show I don't three people, they're
- 24:32not going to be in focus. I don't even think you can find those
- 24:33anymore. I think you can. I think almost every single camera now has
- 24:37dynamic autofocus. Yeah yeah, most most, if not all, due but
- 24:41there are cameras out there, especially the cheap ones. Well yeah, yeah,
- 24:48so look, look look at spending thirty to fifty dollars on a decent
- 24:53low end high end seven to twenty P, low end ten ADP sixty two
- 25:00one hundred dollars. If you're looking for something that's gonna I would, I
- 25:03would, I would, I would mora align with because I've actually bought a
- 25:07few different webcams for people at work. I would say more in line with
- 25:11the sixty to one hundred to get a decent webcam. All right, Well,
- 25:15something we need to touch on that we were talking about this week,
- 25:18and it concerns me, and it concerns pretty much anybody that has decided to,
- 25:23you know, kind of invest in a drone. Maybe they wanted to
- 25:26start a business with it. You could get your license, you can commercially
- 25:30make money, you could take some great shots to your property. But there's
- 25:33a story that Justin shared this week, and Sean also took a look at
- 25:37this regarding Dji, the company that well, one of the companies that makes
- 25:41drones, but they make some of the best ones in the market. Well,
- 25:45but they're also based out of China. Yeah, and that's the whole
- 25:48purpose of the story, right, So basically what they're saying is the United
- 25:53States is now threatening I think yet once again, correct me if I'm wrong.
- 25:59This this happened, It's not the first time that bill. So if
- 26:03Justin brought this to our attention, and I did some research on it,
- 26:07because I have been involved in drones for a decade now, over a decade,
- 26:12a handful of members of the House of Representatives introduced a bill known as
- 26:17the Countering CCP Drone Act CCP so the Communist part China Party, Yeah whatever.
- 26:26So basically it's saying it aims to block new dj A products from entering
- 26:30the US market and could also lead to the revocation of their existing FCC authorizations,
- 26:37So you would no longer be able to buy new Dji drones. And
- 26:41I don't think it's just Dji drones. It'd be their Osmo, their pocket,
- 26:45their transmission, their everything may make They're afraid the Chinese have put a
- 26:49backdoor into these products that will allow the Chinese government to spy on US citizens.
- 26:56Yep, so dj I put out. If you go to Viewpoints dot
- 27:00DGA dot com, this is their blog. This is their tech blog where
- 27:03they put all their stuff. They have written a rebuttal to the House Act
- 27:07that the Bill of the House has put on the floor. So there's a
- 27:12lot we can talk about it a little bit more after the break or where
- 27:15we get a little bit more time, but there's a lot of misinformation.
- 27:21Yeah, let's see how this plays out over the next couple of weeks.
- 27:22We'll certainly maybe talk about it on a future show as well. Now,
- 27:26coming up, talk to a CEO of a company that has been around twelve
- 27:30years developing and they've got what they call the active green screen. They've got
- 27:34this camera that they've developed from scratch that this camera could be used for streaming.
- 27:42It's an amazing green screen if you guys haven't seen it. They took
- 27:45the technology and changed it completely around. So we'll talk with the CEO of
- 27:49the company, Richard Newman, and the co founder of the company. Sub
- 27:52to R and you can find them on the web, but subtowo R dot
- 27:56com if you want to follow along and take a look at the many different
- 28:00that they offer. Coming up with tech talk Radio. I'm Andy Taylor,
- 28:03I'm Shonda Weird, and I'm justin. Let me find us on Facebook if
- 28:07it's actually up Facebook dot com forrestlast tech talkers. Now back to Chief Talk
- 28:14Radio. Welcome back to tech talk Radio. I'm Andy Taylor and really wanted
- 28:18Sean to be in on this one, but unfortunately he was in a meeting.
- 28:22But I'll tell you what. This is so amazing when you see technology.
- 28:26And I saw a video on Instagram on the other day and was talking
- 28:30about a pro product from sub to R, and I was watching this green
- 28:33screen and I was thinking, this is absolutely amazing the quality of this green
- 28:40screen. We've seen products come out and they're just difficult to really use.
- 28:44I started looking into this company, sub to R, and I found out
- 28:48that they really make a whole bunch of products for really the live streamer,
- 28:52the one that really wants to take it to the edge, and their green
- 28:53screen technology is amazing. Richard Newman is a co founder and CEO for sub
- 29:00You are to tell us about probably one of the biggest secrets in this in
- 29:06this kind of market, Richard. Great to talk to you. Thank you
- 29:08for having me, and I really appreciate the opportunity of being here today.
- 29:12Twelve years this company has been around innovating and trying to find different ways to
- 29:18do this technology. What made you get interested in this? So taking it
- 29:22all the way back, I used to be a co founder and a company
- 29:26that makes Vixel lasers high speeds of my conductor lasers predominantly used in communication.
- 29:30But I found that this was back in the days when the Connect gaming console
- 29:37was coming out, you know, the three D imaging thing, and I
- 29:38saw an opportunity for this technology to be used there. Well, the company
- 29:42decided to focus on communication, and I left and started a company in San
- 29:48Francisco to do high speed three D imaging and part of that required a camera
- 29:52that gave us the ability to do things that no other camera out there could
- 29:56do. And so we sent around and said, how are are going to
- 30:00be to build a camera? Wow? Oh, it's amazingly difficult, as
- 30:03we found out. Yes, and our core technology, of course is this
- 30:07is our brand new next generation of camera right here. It's a four K
- 30:12sixty large format streaming video camera. We debuted it in TwitchCon last October and
- 30:18they should launch the next quarter. But this is designed specifically for the pro
- 30:22content creator and independent studios. That's our fourth generation of camera. The third
- 30:27generation of cameras went out, we built and a lot of people loved them,
- 30:32and we stay very connected with our community. I call them our fans.
- 30:37And they complained a lot about green screens. They didn't like all the
- 30:41lights, they didn't like the setup. A lot of streamers are in a
- 30:45spare room, in a dorm room, in a closet. We have on
- 30:48one streamer, we set her up in her bedroom closet and they all complained
- 30:53about green screens. And green screens have five fundamental problems that everybody in different
- 30:59orders. Depends on which one you hate most. But no matter when how
- 31:02you google problems with green screen, it always comes up with lighting, distance,
- 31:07shadows, green spill, wrinkles, and blemishes. Have been through all
- 31:11of those, yes, and you know, and a lot of people just
- 31:15finally give up and they say screw it, and they figure to throw out
- 31:18their green screens right or they've got to roll up and stuck someplace. In
- 31:22the middle of the night, I woke up and I said, you know,
- 31:25what if you put the light behind the green screen a solve all those
- 31:30problems? That was a light bulb moment for you, right, it was
- 31:33a light bulb moment. Yeah. I ran down a lab and I hacked
- 31:37one together and it was like, wow, it works. And then I
- 31:40made a bigger one out of like two by four frames and really clunky.
- 31:44And one of our co founders, his name is Serge. He's got a
- 31:47very small studio in his home, went and dragged it to his place and
- 31:51basically took up the whole room and it worked. It took us two years
- 31:56after that to get from an idea to something that was a marketable, viable
- 32:04product. You think that, oh, well that's going to be easy,
- 32:06right, but we went through iteration and iteration, iteration, trying to get
- 32:09everything just right. The factory we're using makes high end photographic equipment, so
- 32:15if you buy, you know, really the top of the line studio equipment,
- 32:20they're probably the ones that made it. And they got really mad at
- 32:22us at one point and they said, how many prototypes are you going to
- 32:25build it? And my response was as many as it takes to get it
- 32:30right. We built this on It's really fabulous, because I mean this is
- 32:36literally I'm putting my hand on the screen. There's no light in my studio
- 32:39right now at all, except for one tiny desk lamp that's on me,
- 32:44Richard. That's been the biggest challenge. I had to do a demo video
- 32:47foreign actress and I had a green screen setup. I have all the lights
- 32:52I had to set up getting her to the right. It took probably two
- 32:57hours more than it should have taken for this video. With your product with
- 33:00a sub to r ags, it looks like you could set it up and
- 33:04you're ready to go. So this was actually down in our studio last night.
- 33:08We were shooting some videos and I packed it up and brought it up
- 33:12to my office here and I tied myself this morning just for fun, and
- 33:15it was two minutes and forty seconds zipper to ready to go. Wow,
- 33:20and I hadn't had my first cup of coffee. I could probably beat that
- 33:22time. But that's the key thing is that it's easy to transport, it's
- 33:29easy to take up, to pack up, and then because it runs on
- 33:31a USB five bulls, you can put a little battery on it. And
- 33:35I've actually taken this to the beach in San Francisco after sunset and walk down
- 33:38the beach with it. So if you're doing an outdoor type of game setting,
- 33:44you're good to go. You don't need an electrical outlet, you don't
- 33:46need all the lights. You can just use it where it goes. And
- 33:50while I think it makes the job for somebody with a small setup amazingly easy,
- 33:55one of the things I'm looking forward to is we're working with a couple
- 33:59of local universities in getting students to use it in ways nobody ever imagined green
- 34:07screen could be used. Take it out. If you meet anybody who's in
- 34:09the industry who's worked with green screens. A green screen is something you bolt
- 34:15on the wall, you painstakingly set the lights up, and you forge your
- 34:19actor into this small space, exactly what we like to do with sub to
- 34:22ours. Break all the rules and it now becomes a dynamic element in whatever
- 34:30video you're trying to produce. Richard, when we talk about the distance,
- 34:34for myself in this situation, I would need a huge green background, but
- 34:38with sub to R I could put it right behind me. And with the
- 34:43dimensions, how wide is it? It's a standard five by seven that would
- 34:46be perfect because but you can't put something like that in the traditional sense because
- 34:52again you run into all those problems with the bleed lighting everything well, and
- 34:55the fun thing about this is it doesn't care what direction it goes. So
- 35:00if you need a narrow wide you just turn out sideways. Oh wow.
- 35:04And it comes with little little cloth loops on it and we hang them on
- 35:07the wall with those three M picture hangers teats and so you just you can
- 35:12stick it on the wall, there's no mess on the floor. You can
- 35:14put it in any orientation you want. You can twist it. We really
- 35:17did set up a young streamer in la in her bedroom closet with it.
- 35:22That's how much room she has. Amazing, but it worked. If you
- 35:27ever watch a movie with a bad CG right away, your belief is thrown
- 35:30off, and that's not good. If you're watching something and you're doing a
- 35:35presentation with your live streamer and you've got a great background, you can't tell
- 35:38that maybe it's generated. Again, you don't lose that viewer, that person
- 35:44who's watching this with that disbelief, right, and a lot of people that
- 35:46have been buying them recently are professionals. They may be a well known doctor,
- 35:52or they may be a well known spokesperson, but they're not a lighting
- 35:57technician, they're not a camera expert. They be they're good at what they
- 36:00do, but they don't need to be experts in studio lighting and experts and
- 36:07special effects, and that takes lifetime sometimes to master. And you can't master
- 36:14twenty seven talents. Well, some people can, but I can't ask their
- 36:17twenty seven talents. And so what this does it takes a large portion of
- 36:24the hassles away from setting up a green screen type of environment, and a
- 36:30lot of people they want to use it for perhaps showing something about their company,
- 36:37or an active whiteboard or whatever it is that they're doing to help demonstrate
- 36:44the message that they're trying to convey. What we do is we try to
- 36:49make that easier for you with technology. And one of the things that we
- 36:53differentiate ourselves with is sub to our is a hardware technology company. There's not
- 36:59a lot of us out there, a lot of people that make software,
- 37:01but we are hardware. And thus you've developed the studio for sixty which is
- 37:07taking pre orders. Now that is the camera that you showed us earlier.
- 37:10How is that going to be different than maybe a desktop webcam that some people
- 37:15may be using. So a lot of people that are again going back to
- 37:20our twitch streamers and content creators, there is the webcam. And then when
- 37:24you want to level up, you want to elevate the quality of your broadcast,
- 37:30most people will move to a DSLR or a mirrorless solution. The problem
- 37:35with those is that they're not The camera itself is not designed for continuous streaming.
- 37:42Those cameras are designed to maybe capture some video, but mostly take really
- 37:46good still shots, and they're not interactive in a way that makes it easy.
- 37:52You have to have battery packs. They overheat, they shut down,
- 37:58they're difficult to set up a you know the argument that oh, well you
- 38:01know, I can also take it with me wherever I go. Trust me,
- 38:05anybody who sets one up in a broadcast situation, they've gone through so
- 38:08much trouble. They will not move it. They will not tex you.
- 38:12We did it at the ES one year. Yeah. So what we've done
- 38:15is we've taken a Sony iMX two ninety four, which is a micro four
- 38:19thirds sensor, and we built it into our camera so that we support first
- 38:23of all, all the powered micro four thirds lenses. Wow. So this
- 38:28gives you the photographer, an incredible collection of glass that's available to you that's
- 38:37very affordable. And then we use what's called an FPGA which is a very
- 38:40powerful processor, and we dump the video out in four K sixty at twelve
- 38:47bit. And for the square one there's a dedicated HDMI output. All the
- 38:53outputs are are four K sixty in the studio or sixty is. We have
- 38:59a duel SDI output with a gen lock in oh Man, so it really
- 39:04is studio. And all of the controls on the camera are available are through
- 39:09the host, so you don't have to touch the camera. You can basically
- 39:13from your computer control every aspect about the camera you want. And then one
- 39:17of the things we added early on on the back, you'll see this little
- 39:21square box here. This is called an SFP module. And these little modules
- 39:24are amazing because what they allow you to do is convert the video signal in
- 39:30the camera to any other video format you want to the outside, like optical,
- 39:36like IP. And you don't pay for that in the camera. You
- 39:38just buy a module if you need it, slip it in the back,
- 39:42and off you go and running. We have this bank of connectors here,
- 39:45which are basically we give you auxiliary power out so you can connect different things
- 39:51to the camera. We also have what's called ice coord C, which is
- 39:54a language that computer the components, electronic components talk to each other, so
- 40:01the camera can then talk to things like your lights, a gimbal, you
- 40:06know, anything else in the green screen, anything else in the room you
- 40:08can control via this plug in the back. Amazing. We've built it with
- 40:14rack mounts on the side, rack mounts on the bottom, there's mounting quarter
- 40:17twenty mounts on the top, quarter twenty mounts on the bottom. The camera
- 40:22itself is passively cooled so that under normal circumstances it's completely silent. But in
- 40:31the case where the passive cooling will not keep the camera under temperature, then
- 40:37there's a small active fan on the inside. Right. And to give you
- 40:39an idea how crazy we are, we work with a guy who makes those
- 40:43stunt biplanes. I think you've seen him in like the Red Bull commercials.
- 40:46Oh yeah, he builds them from scratch. I mean he'll take a block
- 40:51of aluminum and make this engine that's the size of a microwave oven, that
- 40:55produces seven hundred horsepower. You know. So we were talking to j and
- 41:00we said, look, how do we make this thing the fan quieter,
- 41:05less vibration, less noise. So the vent on the fan is an airfoil
- 41:10oh Wow, signed by designed with the same program. He uses the design
- 41:15propellers and it reduces the drag on the fan by thirty percent, which means
- 41:20my fan runs thirty percent slower, thirty percent less vibrations. Yes, that's
- 41:25the attention to detail we put into everything we make. And we should see
- 41:30these before the end of the year, hopefully next quarter. We've got a
- 41:34limited production ready to go and we're just going through some last minute work on
- 41:37them before I feel that they're up to are to release out into the world.
- 41:44Amazing stuff. Now, I want our listeners to definitely take a look
- 41:46at the website for sub two R. You might see the videos in social
- 41:51which was great because again they totally caught by attention, especially with the fact
- 41:53that with the green screen technology with the ags hair is one of the things
- 42:00that he can give it away. Sometimes if you're Gil Brunner, you're great,
- 42:02but well even then you get the shadow if it's a bad green screen,
- 42:07But in this case you're you're gonna be able to see through that hair,
- 42:10which gives it even more realism. Yeah, you and I both share
- 42:14that silver accents right exactly. On our YouTube channel, you'll see a lot
- 42:22of the stuff that we do that we have fun with. We did a
- 42:24video with just a green screen and me illuminated with a candle. Then there's
- 42:30a gentleman we work with, Stephen Washer. He helps people develop their video
- 42:36presentation skills and he's also very silver help hair gentleman, and his thing was
- 42:40all maintaining the details of the hair follicles and yeah, which is, as
- 42:46you said, is a real challenge. And so we worked with him and
- 42:49he's got We've got a great video on how well we were able to maintain
- 42:53that that he couldn't get any other way. So what's the address for the
- 42:58the YouTube video which what's the channel name? Just sub to our you'll be
- 43:01able to catch that all there. And again if they want to buy the
- 43:04products, what is the website subtour dot com. There you go. You
- 43:07made it easy, Richard. You've worked twelve years to make this product,
- 43:14you know, get it to where it's at with all the products, and
- 43:16do you think this is just the beginning. Are you looking at the technology
- 43:21now, because I know you also do mounts. We also do mounts.
- 43:23We make a really cool amount that oh look, it just sits on the
- 43:29back of your monitor, right and allows you to put all of your gear
- 43:34off of this one mounth that just sits on your monitor. So we hang
- 43:37these little Prismo lights, we hang the camera, and the nice thing is
- 43:42it brings the camera down to the point where the lens is as close to
- 43:45eye level to you as possible. Normally, when you get to a DSLR,
- 43:47then you have to have a tripod or something like that, and the
- 43:51view is always down on somebody's head. So we did this so that it
- 43:54gets as close to eye level as possible, because you want to make icon
- 43:59pat with your audience. It's these little things. And it was funny because
- 44:02again this is a bit of technology. You think, how hard is it
- 44:06to make a little mouth that doesn't clamp but mounts to the top of your
- 44:10monitor. I have cases of skeletons of prototypes. And we finally went back
- 44:17in time to the turn of the last century and studied what a man named
- 44:23Hearth did for making power giant power couplings and he invented this thing called a
- 44:30hearth coupling, which is basically a serrated coupling that locks together and it doesn't
- 44:35take much force to hold the two sides together and keeps them locked together when
- 44:38they rotate. So one of the problems we had is when you put a
- 44:42lot of weight on something, how do you keep that locked in place and
- 44:45keep it from moving. We finally finally came up with that and it was
- 44:47like, wow, that's such a great idea, And so we lock ours
- 44:52together with the hearth coupling and it just takes a little bit of pressure and
- 44:55then the mount is perfectly locked in his position. I will call you an
- 44:59invent Do you look at things sometimes that's say that could be made better?
- 45:02We look at things and as surge lights to say, our ignorance is our
- 45:07greatest strength. We look at something like a camera. We look at that
- 45:10and say, well, how hard can it be to build a camera that
- 45:14does everything we wanted to do? Yeah, but we start down the path
- 45:17doing it, we realize it's pretty tough. But that's why if you look
- 45:21around, I think we are the only small hardware company that makes a camera
- 45:25from the ground up. We start from the chips and piece the printed circuit
- 45:30board and all the components, and we build it from scrap. We build
- 45:36it from the ground up, and that means we know every piece of this
- 45:38intimately. On a camera, there's over a thousand electronic components and we have
- 45:45multitude of high speed lanes inside that all have to be done perfectly. It's
- 45:50not something that's easy to do. I mean you look at companies like I
- 45:53won't name names, but the big cell phone companies they have eight hundred engineers
- 46:00just working directly for them to develop a camera. We have four people in
- 46:06the company. Amazing, continue success, Richard. Thank you to keep looking
- 46:10at the products as they are coming out. Definitely, if you are a
- 46:15content creator or even somebody just you want to start doing some videos having your
- 46:19logo behind you, you don't. It doesn't have to be extreme, doesn't
- 46:22have to be butterflies and explosions. It can be. It can be a
- 46:27logo, it could be branding, which could be very important even in a
- 46:30zoom call. Definitely take a look at the agsgreenscreen subtour dot com. Thank
- 46:35you so much Richard for coming on tech talk Radio. Thank you so much
- 46:37for having me. I appreciate it. Take care again, really great product
- 46:42from sub to R. Now, if you want to find them on the
- 46:45web, what you do is just go to sub the number two R dot
- 46:49com and you'll be able to check out the videos there. The video that
- 46:52I saw was pretty amazing how they're able to really get that really clean green
- 46:58screen. Look. You know you've never used a green screen before, but
- 47:01you've been thinking you want to do videos, you want to have a different
- 47:05background. There are some software solutions I know about that come with even Zoom
- 47:09or even Logitech systems. Skype can do it, but you really want that
- 47:14that you know, it doesn't mess with the believability and what you're doing or
- 47:17where you're at. This is actually a really good product and again it looks
- 47:22it looks amazing. Now, if you are a creator and you've been thinking
- 47:27you wanted a wireless lapel mic to work with your smartphone, they have them
- 47:32so that you can work with other types of devices. But Sure they make
- 47:37great microphones. They've got their first wireless lapel mic which can connect to your
- 47:42smartphone without a receiver. You'll still need a receiver to record with anything,
- 47:46but Sure's mobile app Move mic system. So you have this app and it
- 47:51records into your smartphone, but if you're recording it somewhere else, you'll need
- 47:54to get the receiver for that, and they have a special deal. It's
- 47:59a part of a bundle with two dual channel channel mics for four hundred and
- 48:04ninety nine bucks. Now, if you want to just get the single channel
- 48:07without the receiver, just connects to your smartphone, that's two hundred and forty
- 48:10nine dollars for the move Mic one. The dual channel is three forty nine
- 48:16the move Mic two, and again if you want to bundle that with a
- 48:20receiver, it all comes up to just about five hundred dollars. Now,
- 48:23I wanted to mention this. I was asked the question, can you get
- 48:28a great budget laptop for under five hundred dollars. We've tackled that before and
- 48:34so I did a bit of shopping. This just really surprised me. Lenovo.
- 48:39Lenovo has got the Idea Pad I three. Now, the Lenovo i
- 48:45Pay Idea Pad I three is a budget conscience laptop. But what's amazing is
- 48:54the their Idea Pad I three has the same specs of the Lenovo Leads,
- 49:00which I bought about two maybe two and a half three years ago, the
- 49:04same specs. Now, I bought that for right around I think it was
- 49:08about nine hundred dollars and it was marked down from thirteen ninety nine. This
- 49:14Lenovo Idea Pad I three, which is available you can go online. I
- 49:17know they have in the big box stores. I got mine. I'll be
- 49:20honest, I'll tell you I bought it. Ad best Buy is a budget
- 49:24laptop that sells four Well, let me tell you what it comes with it.
- 49:29First, you get eight gigs a RAM. It's got the Intel I
- 49:32five processor, twelfth generation, five hundred gigabyte SSD, which is great.
- 49:39Fifteen point six FHD screen that's a full high definition, meaning you you can
- 49:46go up to nineteen twenty by ten eighty on your screen, so you're gonna
- 49:50get a really good look. It's light, it weighs less than four pounds.
- 49:54It also has some other features you might want to know about. It
- 49:58has. Let's see, it's got two USB ports three point one, it's
- 50:02got USBC. It's got HDMI as well. And this I didn't get this
- 50:08online. It actually has a card reader, so if you use SD cards,
- 50:14you can pop an SD card in their reader, and so it's great
- 50:16for going on the go. If you're a photographer, maybe you're using you
- 50:22know, the SD cards. You just pop it right into your laptop.
- 50:24Now, one thing about it, and some people have right away said,
- 50:28oh no, I'll just tell you it runs Windows eleven Home in S mode.
- 50:36Now. S Mode is a special security mode from Microsoft. And how
- 50:40it basically every app that you get, you'd have to go through the App
- 50:45store, the Windows Store, Microsoft Store. But here's the deal. You
- 50:49can turn it off. The problem is you can't turn it back on.
- 50:52So you know, if you're you know, just using it for email,
- 50:54which is a pretty powerful apptop for email, you'll probably be pretty happy with
- 51:01this. Very light. Then you could pick this up and this is what
- 51:05surprised me. Three hundred and forty nine dollars. It's been marked down.
- 51:08Hopefully that sale is still going on. But again the Idea Pad I three
- 51:14also another tidbit of info. This past week, Apple released iOS seventeen Dot
- 51:20four and the iPadOS seventeen dot four as well. It's their fourth major update
- 51:24to the iOS seventeen operating system that came out back in gosh September of twenty
- 51:29twenty three. They've got new emojis. You need a mushroom emoji, phoenix,
- 51:32a broken chain, eighteen people and body emojis, add the option to
- 51:37face them in either direction. That's kind of cool, and some other security
- 51:40features. So if you have an iPhone, you might want to go ahead
- 51:44and update that if you can run iOS seventeen. All right, we're going
- 51:46to take a quit, another quick break. We'll come back with the guys.
- 51:50We'll kind of wrap up this week's show in the meantime. Find us
- 51:52on the web, but tech talk radio dot com and now fact to tech
- 51:57Talk Radio. For the final segment, we want to talk a little bit
- 52:00about video games. I love video games. Sean, you love video games.
- 52:02Andy, you want to love video games. You just don't have enough
- 52:06time. Xbox Game Pass Now this is not new, okay, there there
- 52:10have been other attempts at this in the past, Like Sega came out with
- 52:15the cable version, where you would actually plug your cable TV line into a
- 52:20cartridge and you would get a monthly subscription of games you could play. I
- 52:23can't remember exactly what it was called, but it was on the stick of
- 52:27Genesis. Anyway, Xbox game Pass is fantastic. I want to get it
- 52:32again. Yeah, but it's not just Xbox. The Xbox Game Pass is
- 52:37also with PC. And there's rumors that Xbox game Pass, like Xbox itself,
- 52:45might be morphing into a different kind of company where they're not going to
- 52:49be doing consoles anymore. They're gonna be concentrating on just delivering game Pass to
- 52:54everything, to your television, to your computer, to the PlayStation, to
- 53:00the switch. I mean, they might be offering more of a content delivery
- 53:06service. Do you think Microsoft could get into the idea of actually building a
- 53:09smart TV with some of this technology in there. That's a little I don't
- 53:15know about that. I've never really did about that, so I don't know
- 53:17how to answer that question. But yeah, I can just say Xbox game
- 53:22Pass. When I first signed up for you, this used to be called
- 53:25Xbox Live. Okay it was. It was this their online platform. If
- 53:30you wanted to play a game online, you had to go and get Xbox
- 53:35Live. But they started transforming into the Xbox Game Pass, where you basically
- 53:39pay nineteen ninety nine a month and you get access to like one thousand different
- 53:45games. Now you also get access to day one triple A titles like Call
- 53:52of Duty or Madden or whatever else is coming out like the big games.
- 53:57Right. The beauty of Xbox Game Pass from an indie developer point of perspective
- 54:04is that this brings a whole new audience to indie developers. When I say
- 54:08indie developers, I mean small studios, people that would never even know your
- 54:13game existed if it wasn't for Game Pass. And a good point too.
- 54:15If you're out there and you're looking at game titles, you're thinking, I'm
- 54:19going to spend this tripa a money, you know, seventy dollars eighty dollars
- 54:23on Microsoft Flight Simulator. Check it's on game Pass, so you can pay
- 54:29subscription and there you go. You could play it. Also, justin I
- 54:31don't know if you know this, but Nintendo Switch Online is doing a fourteen
- 54:35day free trial that starts tomorrow, which is March tenth. Get it mar
- 54:39ten, Mario Day AOO day. You can pick up that fourteen day Nintendo
- 54:45Switch Online trial for free through the eighteenth of this month. So something else
- 54:50to think about when it comes to your games. So I just want to
- 54:52say one last thing. If you're looking at games go with the Xbox Game
- 54:58Pass. You don't have to have an Xbox. You can do it via
- 55:00your PC if you have Windows. Awesome, great stuff. We'll have more
- 55:05on the web. On the blog, we'll have link to the DJI article.
- 55:08And once again, big congratulations going out to Caitlin and Sean on a
- 55:15little congratulations guys. Little Daniel loose here so very cool. Thanks again.
- 55:19This wraps up this week's Tech Talk Radio. I'm Andy Taylor, I'm Sean
