- 0:13Speaker 1: Hell, no, love No. Welcome to the naudyburn I Show.
- 0:17Speaker 1: I'm your host, U Shooter and it is Thursday, which
- 0:20Speaker 1: means our dear friend Mark Lupa joins us. Hey, Loopy
- 0:23Speaker 1: are you there? Loopy? Luis? Hi Rob, Welcome back, Leepy.
- 0:27Speaker 1: Louis missed you. We missed you, miss do. How is
- 0:29Speaker 1: your trip?
- 0:30Speaker 2: It was fantastic? You know I missed you too, of course,
- 0:33Speaker 2: but we talked about you as we do, and I'm
- 0:36Speaker 2: glad to be back now.
- 0:37Speaker 1: We talked about you too. If you listen to the episode,
- 0:39Speaker 1: we always gossip behind your back. It's terrible. Am I
- 0:42Speaker 1: that friend that If we're at drinks and you get
- 0:44Speaker 1: up to go to the bathroom, do I gossip about you? Yes?
- 0:48Speaker 1: But I say nice things I do. I think you can.
- 0:52Speaker 1: Gossip does not have to be a bad thing. It
- 0:54Speaker 1: really doesn't. You can say really nice things, like if
- 0:57Speaker 1: you walk away, I'll be like, oh he looks durable
- 1:00Speaker 1: in that shirt. Did you see how tight his pants were?
- 1:04Speaker 1: And blah blah blah. I know you can be nice,
- 1:06Speaker 1: naughty but nice. Okay, that's what we are here on
- 1:08Speaker 1: the Naughty be Nice Show. Let's jump into the show.
- 1:10Speaker 1: What time is it My Friends and his Tea Time. Oh,
- 1:13Speaker 1: big shocking announcement yesterday. So Don Lemon was returning with
- 1:17Speaker 1: a new TV show. It was going to be on X,
- 1:20Speaker 1: a big exclusive deal. Well now it's not happening. Elon
- 1:24Speaker 1: Musk has canceled it, and Don has said, I think
- 1:27Speaker 1: he's mad with me. So Don, the formercy and and
- 1:30Speaker 1: anchor controversial. You know, he really gets good press and
- 1:34Speaker 1: bad press. Nobody's neutral on Don Lemon. You love him
- 1:38Speaker 1: or you hate him, And there's a lot of passion
- 1:40Speaker 1: around On and I think he's aware of that and
- 1:42Speaker 1: he's quite happy with it. He's no shrinking Violet. When
- 1:45Speaker 1: he revealed that Musk has canceled a partnership with X
- 1:49Speaker 1: formerly Twitter, and he's going to launch his talk show
- 1:52Speaker 1: with this big sit down interview with the billionaire. Well
- 1:55Speaker 1: what happened is after the interview, Elon did not re
- 2:00Speaker 1: like what went down. Some people are reporting Don asked
- 2:04Speaker 1: a question about doing drugs. Some people are reporting that
- 2:08Speaker 1: the interview is just a little bit dull. Some people
- 2:11Speaker 1: are reporting this is who Musk is. He's a billionaires,
- 2:14Speaker 1: one of the richest people in the world. I don't
- 2:15Speaker 1: think he's the richest anymore. I think that's Jeff Bezos,
- 2:18Speaker 1: but he's super rich. He's very temperamental. Going into business
- 2:22Speaker 1: with somebody like that, it's always a risk. But let's
- 2:25Speaker 1: be honest here, Don didn't have many other choices at
- 2:29Speaker 1: ABC or NBC or NSNBC called him to give him
- 2:33Speaker 1: a show. He probably would have gone there instead. Nobody
- 2:35Speaker 1: was calling, and so to go to X seem like
- 2:39Speaker 1: a good idea. It always does, doesn't it until you
- 2:42Speaker 1: realize who am I going to be working for. I
- 2:45Speaker 1: think this was a disaster waiting to happen. I'm not
- 2:49Speaker 1: sure if there's any blame here. I'm not blaming Don,
- 2:52Speaker 1: I'm not blaming Elan. I'm just acknowledging both of these
- 2:57Speaker 1: people are hutets now the first to view with my
- 3:00Speaker 1: new boss. I might have tread a little bit more
- 3:03Speaker 1: carefully Mark. I might not have asked him about drug use,
- 3:07Speaker 1: or I might not want him to be my first guest.
- 3:11Speaker 1: Get I get it done. You're from TV. You want
- 3:13Speaker 1: your first guest when you launch a show to be Oprah.
- 3:16Speaker 1: You want it to be a big guest. In fact,
- 3:18Speaker 1: when shows launch Mark, there's a lot of pressure on
- 3:21Speaker 1: the bookers to deliver a huge name for the very
- 3:25Speaker 1: first show. I always think it's a mistake. Start with
- 3:28Speaker 1: the Countess Luan, start with a real housewife, and learn
- 3:32Speaker 1: what the show's about. And so I think Don came
- 3:36Speaker 1: out full force here. He did not come out slowly.
- 3:40Speaker 1: It was not, as they say, a soft launch. This
- 3:44Speaker 1: was as hard a lord as possibly could be and
- 3:48Speaker 1: it bit him in the bottom. What do you think
- 3:51Speaker 1: you said this? Really?
- 3:51Speaker 2: Well, you know, just before the show started we were
- 3:53Speaker 2: talking about how kind of cable and cable news is
- 3:56Speaker 2: over and so to your point, I don't think he
- 3:59Speaker 2: had a lot of options, and so there is a
- 4:01Speaker 2: lot of pressure, right, So how do you break through
- 4:02Speaker 2: the noise? There's so many podcasts, there's so many internet
- 4:06Speaker 2: YouTube shows, and what separates Don from anyone else with
- 4:10Speaker 2: a camera and a microphone if you don't have a backing,
- 4:12Speaker 2: a big backing, right, And so when I thought when
- 4:16Speaker 2: I heard this was happening, I thought, Wow, what an
- 4:18Speaker 2: odd fit, because Elon is known to be all over
- 4:20Speaker 2: the place and he's kind of an odd guy. But
- 4:22Speaker 2: when I watched the clip. So Don went on CNN
- 4:25Speaker 2: last night and he aired some of the footage from
- 4:27Speaker 2: the interview which airs this Monday, and I'm very excited
- 4:29Speaker 2: to see it. I thought he could have phrased some
- 4:32Speaker 2: of the questions differently. It felt a little aggressive, it
- 4:35Speaker 2: felt a little accusatory. I'm like, this is your boss,
- 4:38Speaker 2: this is the person you're going to be working for,
- 4:40Speaker 2: and so I think he could have handled it better.
- 4:42Speaker 2: And you know, to Elon's point, the reason why he
- 4:44Speaker 2: decided to cancel the partnership is it he's felt like
- 4:47Speaker 2: Don was being done from CNN and not being Don them,
- 4:50Speaker 2: and that he hired the guy that's off the huff
- 4:52Speaker 2: and fun, and so it did feel like watching CNN,
- 4:54Speaker 2: and I think people moved on from that.
- 4:56Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah, it was watching CNN with the staff
- 4:59Speaker 1: of CNN. So CNN has hundreds of staffs ifever you
- 5:02Speaker 1: go to their offices at Hudson Yards. It's on several
- 5:04Speaker 1: different floors, and these are big floors, they're not tiny
- 5:07Speaker 1: little studio apartments. CNN has a lot of people working there,
- 5:10Speaker 1: and a friend of mine who works at CNN they
- 5:12Speaker 1: used to work with Don said that he had a
- 5:14Speaker 1: lot of help and they're not diminishing his talent here,
- 5:18Speaker 1: but he was part of a much bigger organization, and
- 5:21Speaker 1: everything they did was put through a long process of negotiation, interpretation,
- 5:27Speaker 1: lots of discussions. The quality of the visuals was just
- 5:32Speaker 1: so strong. The producing team was so strong. I was
- 5:35Speaker 1: on Don Show on CNM. I think we were talking
- 5:38Speaker 1: about the Royals, maybe Britney Spears. Every question he asked
- 5:41Speaker 1: me was in the teleprompter. Now, I'm not taking away
- 5:44Speaker 1: from Don's skills. He asks good questions, but he has
- 5:47Speaker 1: a team there, or at least he had a team
- 5:49Speaker 1: to help him through an interview to structure it. And
- 5:53Speaker 1: I think it's a mistake to think that the person
- 5:55Speaker 1: on camera is always the one in charge. It's often
- 5:59Speaker 1: the people around them that makes such a big difference.
- 6:04Speaker 1: When you go to The Today Show, Good Day New York,
- 6:07Speaker 1: the View, I was at The View recently. The amount
- 6:10Speaker 1: of really dedicated, smart people behind the scenes, for me
- 6:16Speaker 1: is what makes the show a success. Yes, you need
- 6:19Speaker 1: great hosts, I'm not saying you don't. When I did
- 6:21Speaker 1: my show on v H one, what made the show
- 6:24Speaker 1: not go completely off the rails was not the five
- 6:27Speaker 1: Muppets form muppets sitting around the table, including me. It
- 6:31Speaker 1: was the producers, the people in the sound department, the
- 6:35Speaker 1: visual people, the director. Darn didn't have that infrastructure. And
- 6:40Speaker 1: if you've had it for a decade and then you
- 6:42Speaker 1: suddenly try to do everything yourself, it's tricky. Mark. When
- 6:46Speaker 1: we first launched this podcast, we were going to Iheart's studio.
- 6:51Speaker 1: We had a producer, we had an editor, we had
- 6:54Speaker 1: sound people. And I'm so glad we launched it like
- 6:58Speaker 1: that because I don't know if we have survived doing
- 7:01Speaker 1: it all ourselves. Like now, we're pretty much a five
- 7:05Speaker 1: or six person band. We do all this pretty much ourselves.
- 7:08Speaker 1: But we learned the skills, and we learned how to
- 7:10Speaker 1: do it. I don't think don ever learned how to
- 7:14Speaker 1: be an independent sort of free lance host.
- 7:17Speaker 2: I agree with that, Rob, and I think that's why
- 7:19Speaker 2: you see people struggle when they leave cable news. There's
- 7:23Speaker 2: only so many options, right, So you see Elizabeth Bargas,
- 7:26Speaker 2: you see Chris Cuomo, they had to struggle for a moment.
- 7:29Speaker 2: They've now landed on News Nation. You see Megan Kelly,
- 7:32Speaker 2: she's landed at serious ex time. There's no path, there's
- 7:35Speaker 2: no right or wrong way. But I think everyone's trying
- 7:38Speaker 2: to figure out what do you do if you lose
- 7:39Speaker 2: your job in cable news. What is the right next step?
- 7:43Speaker 2: And so I think you know rap to your point
- 7:44Speaker 2: when you mentioned Don should have done a soft launch,
- 7:47Speaker 2: I one hundred percent agreed. You don't put on the
- 7:50Speaker 2: most polarizing person on the planet as your first guest,
- 7:53Speaker 2: because then you're also a polarizing person, and I think
- 7:55Speaker 2: the audience is confused.
- 7:57Speaker 1: Yes, I don't know. I think you wanting to make
- 8:00Speaker 1: news Don Love's publicity that's been in the press. I
- 8:03Speaker 1: like Don. We text each other. I've been friends of
- 8:05Speaker 1: the friendly with him for a while. He does love
- 8:07Speaker 1: the spotlight and he's a show pony in the most
- 8:10Speaker 1: delicious ways at Peacock, So I know he wanted to
- 8:12Speaker 1: launch this and have headlines around the world, like in
- 8:16Speaker 1: the same way that Tucker Carson recently interviewed putin. I mean,
- 8:20Speaker 1: come on, and good is going to come of that?
- 8:23Speaker 1: Apart from lots of press attention, I think Don, who's
- 8:26Speaker 1: knife friendly with Tucker, they text each other. I think
- 8:28Speaker 1: part of this was it was just a disaster waiting
- 8:31Speaker 1: to happen. I've seen this happen though with friends of mine,
- 8:33Speaker 1: maybe not to this extent, but friends of mine have
- 8:36Speaker 1: took jobs and I'm like, you do know what you're
- 8:39Speaker 1: walking into. This company's notoriously awful. Now, if you're fine
- 8:44Speaker 1: with that, great, you can have a lovely career there.
- 8:48Speaker 1: But don't go in. It is going to be something
- 8:51Speaker 1: it isn't, which brings us to a pole question of
- 8:53Speaker 1: the day. John Lemon claims that Elon Musk has canceled
- 8:57Speaker 1: his talk show after they did an interview together. Would
- 9:00Speaker 1: you watch a new Don Lemon Shaw? That's our question?
- 9:03Speaker 1: Would you watch it? Do you miss him? Say? He
- 9:05Speaker 1: had a fan base, not huge, but people did tune
- 9:08Speaker 1: into c an n Would you watch a new Don
- 9:12Speaker 1: Lemon show? Hey? Gay, vote on a page at Naughty
- 9:15Speaker 1: Nice Rob. Our facebook page is Naughty Gossip and be
- 9:18Speaker 1: sure to check back tomorrow to hear your results. Hey Loopie,
- 9:22Speaker 1: what are you working on that? So?
- 9:23Speaker 2: I'm so curious to hear your opinion on the story,
- 9:25Speaker 2: Rob So. China Phillips has shared a cryptic message amid
- 9:29Speaker 2: Sharon Stone's allegations. Let me explain, so, China Phillips. She's
- 9:33Speaker 2: the wife of actor Billy Baldwin. She posted a cryptic
- 9:35Speaker 2: quote on her social media following Sharon Stone's allegations of
- 9:39Speaker 2: pressure to sleep with. Following during the filming of the
- 9:42Speaker 2: movie Silver Now, Philip shared a quote suggesting perspective and
- 9:47Speaker 2: mercy in response to challenging situations. So Stone claimed that
- 9:51Speaker 2: producer Robert Evans pressured her to sleep with Baldwin to
- 9:54Speaker 2: improve their on screen chemistry. In the nineteen ninety three
- 9:57Speaker 2: filmed Silver Now, Stone express frustration with the casting decision
- 10:01Speaker 2: and suggested that Baldwin's performance needed improvement, and Baldwin responded
- 10:07Speaker 2: to the Stone's allegations, questioning why she continues to talk
- 10:10Speaker 2: about him and suggesting she may still have feelings for
- 10:13Speaker 2: him or be hurt because she rejected his because he
- 10:17Speaker 2: rejected her advances. Ooh, Rob, what do you think is
- 10:20Speaker 2: going on here?
- 10:21Speaker 1: It's NaSTA So Sharon. A couple of years ago, Sharon
- 10:24Speaker 1: put out a memoir and she claimed in the memoir
- 10:26Speaker 1: that she was pressured to sleep with one of her coasters.
- 10:28Speaker 1: She didn't reveal the names. Now, every interview Sharon's done
- 10:31Speaker 1: since that memoir came out, everyone's asked them who you're
- 10:34Speaker 1: talking about, Sharon, who was it? And I've gone through
- 10:36Speaker 1: all her films. If I interviewed Sharon, it's the first
- 10:39Speaker 1: question that you're asked, if you leave, if you if
- 10:42Speaker 1: you open that door, we're going to walk through it.
- 10:44Speaker 1: So finally she said who it was, and I think
- 10:45Speaker 1: we sort of guessed this. But Billy Bildwin is furious
- 10:49Speaker 1: about it because he thinks, and he's right here, she's
- 10:52Speaker 1: putting him down. So what she's basically saying is that
- 10:55Speaker 1: the producer who is dead, he's no longer with us,
- 10:58Speaker 1: so he can't comment on this. But the producer and
- 11:01Speaker 1: her decided that Billy Baldwin's performance was just not very good.
- 11:04Speaker 1: He wasn't a very good actor. He was young, he
- 11:06Speaker 1: was new at acting. She'd just worked with Michael Douglas
- 11:09Speaker 1: and she said some quite mean things about him. So
- 11:12Speaker 1: now she's saying, basically, he was such a terrible actor
- 11:15Speaker 1: and they had so little chemistry that she had to
- 11:17Speaker 1: have sex with him to make the movie better. And
- 11:20Speaker 1: then she has a dig too, saying when she would
- 11:22Speaker 1: talk about making the movie better, she means making him better.
- 11:25Speaker 1: So he is annoyed about this. She obviously is still
- 11:29Speaker 1: annoyed about it. I love the gossips all coming out,
- 11:32Speaker 1: and you know what I'm like, I love a bit
- 11:34Speaker 1: I love a bit of gossip here. But I wonder
- 11:37Speaker 1: is this gonna help either one of them? Know? Is
- 11:39Speaker 1: it gonna hurt either one of them? Probably not. And
- 11:42Speaker 1: I think if Sharon was still making movies, Sharon hasn't
- 11:45Speaker 1: made a big movie in a while, I think she
- 11:48Speaker 1: probably wouldn't have said this. A lot of people in
- 11:50Speaker 1: Hollywood have mixed feelings about this. Part of it is
- 11:53Speaker 1: the me too movement, which is you've got to tell
- 11:55Speaker 1: these stories. They did happen. It was awful back then.
- 11:58Speaker 1: It's probably still awful, mad but not quite a bad
- 12:00Speaker 1: I hope, And so to tell your stories is really
- 12:02Speaker 1: really powerful. So I applaud you for that, Sharon. But
- 12:05Speaker 1: you didn't need to get the digs in about him
- 12:08Speaker 1: being a bad actor. You didn't have to go there.
- 12:11Speaker 1: They just don't like each other. You've had it people
- 12:13Speaker 1: you've worked with, Mark, think of people you worked with
- 12:15Speaker 1: maybe ten years ago you just still don't like. And
- 12:19Speaker 1: do you get a little dig in when you can?
- 12:21Speaker 1: I used to, but now I don't. I don't.
- 12:23Speaker 2: Yeah, you know what, there's of course people I don't like,
- 12:26Speaker 2: But I think in this case, Billy's comments were so
- 12:29Speaker 2: aggressive and misogynistic. And then you know Billy and his
- 12:32Speaker 2: wife they pride themselves on being Christians, and they you know,
- 12:36Speaker 2: we love everyone and Jesus, and I just think that
- 12:38Speaker 2: their response is just so over the top. And if
- 12:41Speaker 2: they were just quiet about it and let it move,
- 12:43Speaker 2: just move on from this, this story would be over.
- 12:46Speaker 1: You know, that's good advice, that's good. I think secretly
- 12:48Speaker 1: their love and get too. I mean, when was the
- 12:50Speaker 1: last time we talked about Billy Baldwin? Come on, never?
- 12:53Speaker 1: It's never, I just never. I had to google him
- 12:56Speaker 1: see what he still looked like. It's been like that long,
- 12:58Speaker 1: I think secretly, here all enjoying a little bit of attention. Okay,
- 13:02Speaker 1: we found out how much the cast for Van der
- 13:05Speaker 1: Pump Rules are making with season eleven, so they've come
- 13:09Speaker 1: a long way since the show started. In season one,
- 13:13Speaker 1: they all received about ten thousand dollars for the entire season.
- 13:17Speaker 1: That was about one thousand dollars an episode. Now to
- 13:20Speaker 1: these people at the time, that was enormous. That was
- 13:24Speaker 1: a huge deal. Of thousand dollars an episode, ten thousand dollars. Well,
- 13:28Speaker 1: fast forward to season eleven and the show now is
- 13:31Speaker 1: a monster hit, even beating the Housewives in the ratings,
- 13:34Speaker 1: and now they're getting thirty five thousand dollars per episode,
- 13:40Speaker 1: which means they are pocketing about seven hundred thousand dollars
- 13:46Speaker 1: from the show alone. Add on top of that some
- 13:49Speaker 1: endorsement deals, some product placements, some followers, millions of followers
- 13:54Speaker 1: on social media. They're probably taking home about a million dollars. Yeah,
- 14:00Speaker 1: not bad.
- 14:02Speaker 2: Not mad, but I almost want to say not enough.
- 14:04Speaker 2: And I say this because the cables on life support
- 14:08Speaker 2: and this show is keeping Bravo alive. This is the
- 14:12Speaker 2: show cast is floating this network, and so pay them
- 14:15Speaker 2: what they're worth because they are saving you. And to
- 14:18Speaker 2: think that they were being paid one thousand dollars an episode,
- 14:20Speaker 2: which comes down to probably minimum wage, and you think
- 14:23Speaker 2: about the hours you're putting in. Yeah, they got taken
- 14:25Speaker 2: advantage of for quite some time. So I'm happy to
- 14:28Speaker 2: hear they're getting paid, you know, at least what they
- 14:30Speaker 2: are earning for that.
- 14:31Speaker 1: That's right now. There's enough money for everybody. Brava is
- 14:34Speaker 1: not suffering here like they've got a lot of money.
- 14:37Speaker 1: It is wild, though, how time changes things, Like I
- 14:42Speaker 1: never thought would see the day when the Housewives were
- 14:45Speaker 1: like and that's where we are now. I'm just remember
- 14:48Speaker 1: when Queer Eye really put Bravo on the map. Project
- 14:52Speaker 1: Runway and Queer Eye were the two monster hits, and
- 14:56Speaker 1: then they got Top Chef, which was huge, and then
- 14:58Speaker 1: they got The Housewives, which was ridiculous something. It changed
- 15:01Speaker 1: the conversation. But now we've moved on. It's vander Pump Rules.
- 15:05Speaker 1: I've started to watch it. I like it. Oh, it
- 15:11Speaker 1: is trashy, Mark. I mean, it does make me feel
- 15:14Speaker 1: a little odd afterwards, but I do like it. And
- 15:17Speaker 1: I think I like that Tom guy. I know I
- 15:19Speaker 1: shouldn't have missed all the bad stuff. I just yeah,
- 15:23Speaker 1: I think I like him. I do terrible. Well, ponder
- 15:27Speaker 1: that while we take a quick break and we will
- 15:28Speaker 1: be right back. Welcome back to the mutobot Naisha and
- 15:33Speaker 1: he hastily rules shooting this idea. Friend Mark Lupo, Hey Loopy,
- 15:37Speaker 1: let's get to the pollstuff dot Lushia. We talked about
- 15:41Speaker 1: Meghan Markham and Prince Harry allegedly mocking Kate Middleton's photoshop
- 15:45Speaker 1: mishaps with friends of the couple, saying Megan would never
- 15:49Speaker 1: have made that mistake. She has a very detailed eye.
- 15:53Speaker 1: A question was, what do you think would Megan ever
- 15:56Speaker 1: have made this mistake. Let's have a look. Eighty percent
- 16:00Speaker 1: said no, she wouldn't have. Megan would never have let
- 16:02Speaker 1: a photograph go out that wasn't just perfect. Let's point
- 16:05Speaker 1: out to that. Just minutes ago, Meghan and Harry spokesperson
- 16:10Speaker 1: put out a statement slamming this report, saying that the
- 16:14Speaker 1: people that wrote it it was not true. Their real
- 16:18Speaker 1: friends would never comment on this. Meghan and Harry want
- 16:22Speaker 1: no part of all this Cape drama. They want no
- 16:26Speaker 1: part of it. I think they probably talking to one
- 16:29Speaker 1: another about this. Of course they are, but I do
- 16:32Speaker 1: believe they're not gossiping with friends, because this is how
- 16:34Speaker 1: these stories get out. What do you think?
- 16:37Speaker 2: I mean, I'm sure they know what's going on, and
- 16:39Speaker 2: I don't think they want any part of this. But
- 16:41Speaker 2: and I agree. Listen, Meghan had a blog. She knows better.
