Latest / Bussin' With The Boys / Brian Callahan On Taking Over From Mike Vrabel + Expectations For Next Season
Transcript
- 0:04Speaker 1: Roland.
- 0:06Speaker 2: Let me lock in with this, Lucy, because I have
- 0:08Speaker 2: a public service announcement for all of our viewers are
- 0:10Speaker 2: long time tier ones, the crunch of a Lucy Man.
- 0:22Speaker 2: Listen for the past few months in the comment section,
- 0:28Speaker 2: especially on YouTube, but throughout the whole entire Busting with
- 0:31Speaker 2: the Boys landscape, there has been a call to action
- 0:34Speaker 2: bringing back the older intro. We want the older intro now.
- 0:38Speaker 2: Behind the scenes, when the cameras aren't on, there's text
- 0:42Speaker 2: messages flowing between me and Will some of the boys.
- 0:44Speaker 2: They whisper in the back. We need to bring it back.
- 0:46Speaker 2: Why are we bringing it back? There's a reason why
- 0:48Speaker 2: I'm sitting on this bus alone today, and the reason
- 0:51Speaker 2: is the vote has won. You people have won. And
- 0:55Speaker 2: I hate saying that because I don't want this whole
- 0:57Speaker 2: like now we control Busting with the Boys, but as
- 0:59Speaker 2: a part of a bro's podcast, a podcast that we
- 1:01Speaker 2: all hang out and enjoy each other and listen to
- 1:04Speaker 2: our viewers and want to give them the best we
- 1:05Speaker 2: can possibly give them. I'm here to tell you the
- 1:09Speaker 2: new intro is out and the old intro, the intro
- 1:14Speaker 2: is now back. Please enjoy the old intro.
- 1:20Speaker 1: Alright, We're good.
- 1:21Speaker 3: You like that, Busting with the boys, hanging with the faces,
- 1:33Speaker 3: betting on a game.
- 1:38Speaker 1: No moment's gonna tell us what you can knop.
- 1:44Speaker 3: We're here just drinking beer and making a baby. I'm
- 1:52Speaker 3: hanging with the feelers, busting with the boys.
- 1:59Speaker 4: Bro.
- 2:01Speaker 2: I hope you guys all enjoyed that old intro. This
- 2:04Speaker 2: week on Busting with the Boys Special Special time, we
- 2:07Speaker 2: now for the second time, have a Titans head coach
- 2:11Speaker 2: on Brian Callahan joins us on the bus an hour
- 2:13Speaker 2: and forty minutes of him just talking ball, talking shop.
- 2:17Speaker 2: Jack McPherson maybe had the best question of the entire
- 2:20Speaker 2: episode is are you going to bring back the pain train?
- 2:23Speaker 2: And those of you who have sat in Nissan Stadium
- 2:26Speaker 2: before the last two years and have got the opportunity
- 2:30Speaker 2: to see a game and see on the big screen
- 2:34Speaker 2: Terry Tate office linebacker and then Johnny Cash slowly following
- 2:37Speaker 2: that know exactly who he's talking about. So hopefully those whispers,
- 2:40Speaker 2: those words get in his little brain and he is
- 2:42Speaker 2: able to tell the entertainment staff we need to bring
- 2:45Speaker 2: that back to Nissan Stadium every single day. One thing
- 2:49Speaker 2: if you don't have in your life you need to
- 2:50Speaker 2: bring it back in your life. That is the Chevy
- 2:52Speaker 2: Silverado and this podcast, Busting with the Boys, is presented
- 2:56Speaker 2: by the Chevy Silverado. This is a Chevy truck podcast,
- 2:58Speaker 2: boys and girls, the greatest truck ever built, and our
- 3:01Speaker 2: good friends at Chevrolet have been a big part of
- 3:03Speaker 2: the Busting family and even our personal lives. Chevy Silverado
- 3:06Speaker 2: is a longtime partner of the show. A truck with
- 3:08Speaker 2: a commanding and unstoppable grit, legendary capability and dependability to
- 3:14Speaker 2: so find out for yourself, Like so many of our boys,
- 3:17Speaker 2: head over to Chevy dot com to check out Chevy Trucks,
- 3:20Speaker 2: Grit and build your own Silverado for do it yourself projects,
- 3:23Speaker 2: to road trips, off road adventures, to tailgates. Whatever your
- 3:27Speaker 2: thing is, it all starts with a Chevy truck. Now,
- 3:32Speaker 2: this is a very cool podcast for Busting with the
- 3:34Speaker 2: Boys because when our show started, Mike Rabel was the
- 3:38Speaker 2: head coach of the Tennessee Titans, and as a player
- 3:41Speaker 2: who just signed a contract, who will you know, first
- 3:44Speaker 2: year with the Titans, You really don't know how the
- 3:48Speaker 2: Titans feel about having now a public platform for people
- 3:50Speaker 2: to go listen to and enjoy. There's probably a lot
- 3:52Speaker 2: of red flags in the back of their head. What
- 3:54Speaker 2: if they talk about scheme, what if they talk about
- 3:56Speaker 2: in the building stuff, stuff that kind of when you
- 3:58Speaker 2: have a family, you keep them with and the family
- 4:00Speaker 2: you don't want it going out. That's how every professional
- 4:03Speaker 2: collegiate organization works. And Mike Rabel comes on our show
- 4:07Speaker 2: and has an incredible time with us, truly giving us
- 4:11Speaker 2: a stamp of approval, saying it's okay, you guys are
- 4:12Speaker 2: having this by him just coming on. In that conversation,
- 4:16Speaker 2: the infamous question of would you cut your dick off
- 4:19Speaker 2: for a Super Bowl comes up, and he says, been
- 4:22Speaker 2: married for thirty years.
- 4:23Speaker 1: Why not.
- 4:24Speaker 2: Now we know what happened that year in twenty nineteen,
- 4:26Speaker 2: the Boys went to the AFC Championship Game. Before that game,
- 4:30Speaker 2: Mike Rabel said it was a joke, and we lost
- 4:32Speaker 2: against the Kansas City Chiefs in Arrowhead. Now I'm not
- 4:35Speaker 2: saying Mike Rabel is the reason why we lost the
- 4:37Speaker 2: Super Bowl, but if you do the math, Mike Rabel
- 4:40Speaker 2: is the reason why we lost the Super Bowl by
- 4:42Speaker 2: losing you with the Chiefs, by going back on his
- 4:44Speaker 2: promise of cutting his dick out, So that question, if
- 4:46Speaker 2: you're wondering to Brian Callahan is asked on this very podcast. Boys,
- 4:52Speaker 2: I'm so excited about this one. I'm excited about rekindling
- 4:57Speaker 2: a relationship with the Titans. Ran is now going to
- 5:00Speaker 2: come on the bus as well. That is going to
- 5:01Speaker 2: be on next week. It is very cool to see
- 5:05Speaker 2: the roots new regime kind of coming together and for
- 5:08Speaker 2: all of us to really enjoy because it's a very
- 5:10Speaker 2: special episode to all of us. We do a twisted question,
- 5:13Speaker 2: what else do we do? Mitch? What else do we
- 5:15Speaker 2: kick off? In that thing, we talk about the quarterbacks
- 5:18Speaker 2: that he's had, We've had. He's at Matthew Stafford, he's
- 5:21Speaker 2: at Peyton Manning, He's.
- 5:23Speaker 1: Had Joe Burrow.
- 5:25Speaker 2: And there was one more sneaky boy in there that
- 5:27Speaker 2: was like, oh shit, he's really had a lot of quarterbacks.
- 5:30Speaker 2: Was there another one I'm not thinking of?
- 5:32Speaker 5: You talked about Jake Browning?
- 5:33Speaker 2: Jake Browning, which it's an interesting thing. Joe Burrow goes down,
- 5:39Speaker 2: Jake brown goes in. The Bengals don't just completely fall
- 5:41Speaker 2: off a cliff, and all of a sudden, Callahan gives
- 5:43Speaker 2: himself a head coaching job to Browning, he kind of
- 5:46Speaker 2: feels like that might be shitting on him a little bit.
- 5:48Speaker 2: We go over all that stuff, we talk about all
- 5:49Speaker 2: the new additions the Titans have brought into their organization
- 5:53Speaker 2: with veteran wide receivers. Literally, Will Levis has so many
- 5:57Speaker 2: weapons around him now to be successful. Even looking at
- 6:00Speaker 2: the defense, getting Snead from Kansas City who is an
- 6:03Speaker 2: all Pro guy with a Super Bowl ring on his finger,
- 6:06Speaker 2: that type of leadership.
- 6:07Speaker 1: There are a lot of.
- 6:08Speaker 2: Things to look forward to in Nashville, Tennessee, this upcoming fall.
- 6:12Speaker 2: The boys are so slept on you look at a
- 6:15Speaker 2: lot of these power rankings. I think Bleacher Report put
- 6:18Speaker 2: these boys around like twenty eight to twenty nine, even thirty.
- 6:21Speaker 2: A couple of I've seen of these smaller pages have
- 6:24Speaker 2: been put in the Tennessee Titans at thirty two. If
- 6:27Speaker 2: I told you, hey, we got a team with Calvin Ridley,
- 6:29Speaker 2: DeAndre Hopkins, Tony Pollard, a top ten pick at left tackle.
- 6:36Speaker 2: We have a top ten pick or a top fifteen
- 6:38Speaker 2: pick at left guard. We have a center that we
- 6:40Speaker 2: paid fifty million dollars to. We have a first round
- 6:47Speaker 2: pick who's gonna find them with his way in the slot, Chig,
- 6:50Speaker 2: a tight end who's on the up and coming. You
- 6:52Speaker 2: have a lot of studs out there. Tyler Boyd coming
- 6:55Speaker 2: over from the Bengals. If I told you just that
- 6:58Speaker 2: small little snippet, would you say, these boys are gonna
- 7:00Speaker 2: put points on the board. That's just the offense. Not
- 7:04Speaker 2: to mention Jeffrey Simmons, who you know, your boy and him,
- 7:07Speaker 2: we've had our back of force. I could say what
- 7:09Speaker 2: I want about Jeff. However, he's a hell of a
- 7:11Speaker 2: football player. He's an episode stud. You get the Autlan
- 7:14Speaker 2: Trophy winner from the University of Texas Longhorns. He is
- 7:18Speaker 2: now the second round pick. The man Lily is quoted
- 7:20Speaker 2: saying if I don't, if I can just lose weight,
- 7:22Speaker 2: I'll be a Hall of Famer. And knowing Big Jeff
- 7:25Speaker 2: how he likes to verbally abuse people in the building,
- 7:27Speaker 2: and I'm saying that as a compliment. This kid's gonna
- 7:29Speaker 2: find his way into giving effort. Otherwise Jeff's not going
- 7:31Speaker 2: to have it happen. Arden Key, who's got enough personality
- 7:34Speaker 2: that Callahan goes over. He's a stud, came over from Jacksonville.
- 7:38Speaker 2: I already talked about sneed a little bit they're looking
- 7:40Speaker 2: to add another veteran of safety in the mix, but
- 7:42Speaker 2: you also have Hooker. If Hooker stays healthy, the only
- 7:45Speaker 2: downfall of Titans I see this year is injuries. If
- 7:49Speaker 2: they're able to get the monkey off their back of
- 7:51Speaker 2: having you know, one hundred whatever injuries and eighty nine
- 7:54Speaker 2: guys playing and setting records, If they're able to stay
- 7:57Speaker 2: away from that situation and keep these boys healthy and
- 7:59Speaker 2: ready to play a weekend in week out, we've got
- 8:01Speaker 2: a true team that could possibly win the AFC South
- 8:03Speaker 2: this year. Boys and beyond. And I know I'm a Homer,
- 8:06Speaker 2: I know I'm biased. I know we have other people
- 8:08Speaker 2: coming in that are fans of other teams. Going Taylor,
- 8:10Speaker 2: you're a psychopath, You're a lunatic. I'm just telling you, boys,
- 8:14Speaker 2: there was a lot to be excited about in Nashville, Tennessee.
- 8:17Speaker 2: Now we're gonna give him a game or two, right,
- 8:19Speaker 2: we got to feel it out. They're playing the Chicago
- 8:20Speaker 2: Bears week one, and as we get into week three
- 8:23Speaker 2: or four, we need to start seeing Nissan Stadium packed,
- 8:26Speaker 2: sold out, getting loud and proud. I don't want to
- 8:29Speaker 2: see false starts from the offensive line on the opposing team.
- 8:31Speaker 2: That's how you know that your fan base is making
- 8:34Speaker 2: a big impression on the game itself. That is a
- 8:37Speaker 2: big deal. Time will tell. We will see. But where
- 8:40Speaker 2: I sit right now, in the middle of May, I'm
- 8:43Speaker 2: looking around and I'm seeing a lot to be proud
- 8:45Speaker 2: of by the two tone Blue in Nashville, Tennessee. It's
- 8:47Speaker 2: an exciting time.
- 8:48Speaker 5: Yes, match, the over under for their wins is six
- 8:52Speaker 5: and a half. Before this interview, I may have taken
- 8:53Speaker 5: the under, but after this interview, like, how can you
- 8:56Speaker 5: not take the over on that?
- 8:57Speaker 1: Dude? I know.
- 8:59Speaker 2: The only question it's crazy to say in my mind
- 9:02Speaker 2: other than the health thing is will Levis. Will Levis
- 9:05Speaker 2: showed how insane he can be, his ability to take
- 9:09Speaker 2: hits step into throes of pressure in his face, put
- 9:12Speaker 2: just dots all over the field. The guy can make
- 9:14Speaker 2: every single throw. Now he's got all the pieces and
- 9:17Speaker 2: it really is ken will Levis elevate from year one
- 9:20Speaker 2: to year two and have full seventeen games if he
- 9:22Speaker 2: can do those things. Like I said, a lot of
- 9:25Speaker 2: exciting shit is going on in Nashville, Tennessee. Me personally,
- 9:29Speaker 2: we can't guarantee right this is a DraftKings podcast. I
- 9:33Speaker 2: suggest you guys go over to Draft Kings right now.
- 9:35Speaker 2: Me personally, this is what I'm gonna do. I'm gonna
- 9:37Speaker 2: take that over six and a half wins is not crazy.
- 9:40Speaker 2: The only thing that's gonna kill these boys is injuries.
- 9:43Speaker 2: That to me is a bet. I feel very comfortable
- 9:46Speaker 2: about making a right. I'm done with this episode. I
- 9:48Speaker 2: hope be doing that today.
- 9:50Speaker 6: If you're a real Titans fan, you take them winning
- 9:53Speaker 6: the division like I did twelve hundred ods. I actually
- 9:57Speaker 6: took it two days prior to Calvinriley getting signed, and
- 10:01Speaker 6: I had a lot of high hopes as I always did.
- 10:05Speaker 2: What were the odds when you took that bat.
- 10:06Speaker 7: Plus twelve hundred? Really thirteen hundred?
- 10:08Speaker 2: How much you put on it?
- 10:09Speaker 7: Five hundred?
- 10:12Speaker 2: That boy cooking out there?
- 10:13Speaker 1: Huh? Come on now.
- 10:15Speaker 2: I would love to hear this from you, Jackie, because
- 10:17Speaker 2: if those of you who truly follow Bust One, the
- 10:19Speaker 2: Boys and Artier one to consume all of the insane
- 10:22Speaker 2: amount of contact that we put in a weekend in
- 10:23Speaker 2: a week out, which we appreciate you doing, and play
- 10:25Speaker 2: subscribe right five stars. If you have an opportunity to
- 10:27Speaker 2: tell be a friend telephone, get those things out there.
- 10:29Speaker 2: When Mike Rabel was fired, Jack McPherson was on Suweye Watch.
- 10:33Speaker 2: He was like, we've now just gone back ten years,
- 10:35Speaker 2: were dead like a true fan would. Right, you're not
- 10:39Speaker 2: just staying even keeled. You're riding that roller coaster. You're
- 10:42Speaker 2: ticking all the way up. And that was a dramatic
- 10:44Speaker 2: fall for our boy. Now fast forward four months, you're
- 10:47Speaker 2: sitting in a whole different position, aren't you, Jackie.
- 10:49Speaker 7: Oh hell yeah, I'm on the Cali train.
- 10:52Speaker 2: Now on the Cali train.
- 10:53Speaker 1: Coach.
- 10:54Speaker 7: He seems like a great guy. He seems like even
- 10:56Speaker 7: better coach.
- 10:58Speaker 6: It's fun, you know, there's a fun city to be
- 11:00Speaker 6: a coach and be a part of a system like this.
- 11:02Speaker 7: We've got great fans, good people.
- 11:04Speaker 6: The only downfall is in Nashville's like the perfect three
- 11:07Speaker 6: day week in town. So any big market team we play,
- 11:11Speaker 6: you know, the boys load up the truck Chevy Silverado,
- 11:14Speaker 6: they drive to nash over three days, they party all weekend,
- 11:18Speaker 6: and our fair weather fans will sell them tickets. So
- 11:22Speaker 6: we need to call to action for real fans to
- 11:24Speaker 6: not be selling their tickets and go to games even
- 11:28Speaker 6: if we're two and fourteen, and it's raining fucking show
- 11:31Speaker 6: up because it's all we.
- 11:32Speaker 2: Have two and fourteen. Is that a callback to twenty fourteen?
- 11:35Speaker 7: Maybe? But I was there too.
- 11:37Speaker 2: It's a sad time for us, man.
- 11:38Speaker 6: Yeah, but it's about to be a beautiful season. And
- 11:41Speaker 6: I believe in Cali and I believe in Ran.
- 11:43Speaker 7: As well, so and we'll love this. I believe in
- 11:46Speaker 7: all of the two tone blue.
- 11:47Speaker 6: I'm wearing it all today and not even by that's
- 11:49Speaker 6: just an accident, because we live.
- 11:51Speaker 2: And die by that closet.
- 11:53Speaker 1: Dude.
- 11:53Speaker 6: It's literally it's just Titans gear. And I mean Mitch
- 11:56Speaker 6: is wearing my shirt right now. It's Titans gear and
- 11:58Speaker 6: weird T shirts.
- 11:59Speaker 2: That is a cool That is a cool T shirt.
- 12:00Speaker 1: I do really enjoy that.
- 12:02Speaker 2: You're not gonna You're not gonna keep it.
- 12:04Speaker 5: I forgot it.
- 12:06Speaker 7: Yeah, I told you I have a lot of cool
- 12:08Speaker 7: T shirts.
- 12:09Speaker 2: I don't know, but those of you who don't know
- 12:11Speaker 2: jackularly Pierson, I will tell you a little piece of him.
- 12:14Speaker 1: Jack is everywhere we go Jack.
- 12:16Speaker 2: We're mistaken for family, for brothers in one sense or another.
- 12:21Speaker 2: Every place I go with Jack, if we're in a
- 12:23Speaker 2: Bucky's or we're in Vegas, or we're in Alabama and
- 12:28Speaker 2: there's a apparel store with wacky T shirts. Jackularly fierceon
- 12:32Speaker 2: is gonna find his way in there and sneak away
- 12:33Speaker 2: with one or two shirts.
- 12:35Speaker 6: You have weigh too many clothes. I honestly might do
- 12:37Speaker 6: a little uh, a little garage.
- 12:39Speaker 2: Shale, a little spring cleaning.
- 12:41Speaker 7: Yeah, I need to just donate them, but I don't know.
- 12:45Speaker 7: I just have way too many T shirts.
- 12:46Speaker 6: I have a like entire room because Garrett used to
- 12:50Speaker 6: live with me in my house and then he moved out.
- 12:52Speaker 6: It was an empty room in her house and the
- 12:53Speaker 6: room is literally just full of T shirts.
- 12:56Speaker 7: And I mean, I don't need them, so.
- 12:58Speaker 2: You could donate, But why help the community when he
- 13:00Speaker 2: can just make a couple of bucks?
- 13:01Speaker 6: Right, breaking news, The boy Robert Tunyan has just signed
- 13:06Speaker 6: with the Vikings.
- 13:08Speaker 7: And you're hearing this on Tuesday. This actually happened five
- 13:12Speaker 7: days ago. So five days ago, so breaking.
- 13:14Speaker 2: But man, and listen, the reason why we're shooting this
- 13:18Speaker 2: shout out Rob Tonyan. He's a boy, he's been a
- 13:20Speaker 2: part of the podcast. He obviously does tighten you. He's
- 13:23Speaker 2: well integrated in the Nashville community. You know, and now
- 13:26Speaker 2: he's just signed with the Vikings, which is incredible. The
- 13:29Speaker 2: reason why this episode is being shot five days prior
- 13:32Speaker 2: is because your boys an idiot. Me not will Your
- 13:36Speaker 2: boy Taylor is an absolute idiot. We got a call
- 13:40Speaker 2: from Two Bears, which is a great podcast hosted by
- 13:43Speaker 2: Thomson Ger and Burt Kreischer. They wanted us to fly
- 13:46Speaker 2: to Austin and shoot a podcast with them, which is awesome.
- 13:50Speaker 2: Anytime you can collaborate with another podcast, especially as big
- 13:52Speaker 2: as them, it's an absolute honor. I hit my wife up,
- 13:56Speaker 2: say hey, Monday, what date is that? The twenty first?
- 14:01Speaker 2: We'll just say it's the twenty first, Monday, the twenty first.
- 14:03Speaker 2: Blah blah blah, can we am? I free to fly
- 14:07Speaker 2: to Austin, Texas, and then after that, I'm gonna fly
- 14:10Speaker 2: to Charlotte to do a podcast with somebody else, which
- 14:12Speaker 2: I'm not going to say now because I don't know
- 14:13Speaker 2: if we want to give out that information. But then
- 14:15Speaker 2: fly back to Nashville, Tennessee on Tuesday. She has he
- 14:18Speaker 2: had no problem, Well, your boys in the sauna, and
- 14:20Speaker 2: I get an email from my daughter's school and Bro,
- 14:25Speaker 2: this might be a dad hat moment. They're having kindergarten
- 14:29Speaker 2: graduation on a Monday, which I don't know about those
- 14:32Speaker 2: of you, the boomers out there, the millennials that are
- 14:34Speaker 2: my age thirty two, thirty three, thirty four years old,
- 14:37Speaker 2: I don't remember at my school, ASTech Elementary in Arizona,
- 14:42Speaker 2: I don't remember us having a kindergarten graduation. That's crazy
- 14:44Speaker 2: to me. What's even more crazy because I did talk
- 14:46Speaker 2: to the boys, but they're like, hey, that's actually a
- 14:48Speaker 2: pretty normal thing. What's nuts to me is we have
- 14:51Speaker 2: kindergarten graduation on Monday, and then hey, we'll see at
- 14:54Speaker 2: school still Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, they still have a
- 14:56Speaker 2: full week of school before they go to summer break.
- 14:59Speaker 2: That's that's insane to me because I know the last
- 15:01Speaker 2: day of school was Friday. However, your boys and an
- 15:04Speaker 2: idiot I committed to go to Two Bears. Now I
- 15:06Speaker 2: can't go to Two Bears. Will Compton is still going
- 15:10Speaker 2: to do Two Bears, which bums me out from a
- 15:12Speaker 2: personal standpoint, because those boys are a great time. It's
- 15:15Speaker 2: obviously massive for the brand, and it's also massive for
- 15:18Speaker 2: personally just getting with those boys. You guys seeing different
- 15:21Speaker 2: audience seeing our personalities. That's just how this shit cooks, right,
- 15:24Speaker 2: we want to if we're cooking up a nice little meal,
- 15:26Speaker 2: that's a great ingredient to dust in there. I'm excited
- 15:29Speaker 2: for Will. I'm super bummed out for me.
- 15:31Speaker 1: Now.
- 15:32Speaker 2: Will is actually in the other building right now. He's
- 15:33Speaker 2: got a raspy voice. Anytime you raise it an octave
- 15:35Speaker 2: above an eight, he has a problem with the voice.
- 15:38Speaker 2: He gets raspy, he gets rasping in the old throat.
- 15:40Speaker 2: We have a podcast later today which is going to
- 15:42Speaker 2: come out in two weeks that I need my boy
- 15:44Speaker 2: to save his voice for. So here I am diving
- 15:48Speaker 2: on the sword talking to you beautiful people, saying, hey,
- 15:51Speaker 2: I fucked up. Will gets the benefit and I feel
- 15:55Speaker 2: bad for myself. If you feel bad for me, let
- 15:57Speaker 2: me know in the comments. If you don't feel bad
- 15:58Speaker 2: for me, also let me know in the comments your boys.
- 15:59Speaker 2: But I can take those kinds of hits, now, Callahan,
- 16:02Speaker 2: Do we have any segments that we need to hit
- 16:05Speaker 2: before I let these amazing people who are obviously subscribing, unsubscribing,
- 16:09Speaker 2: and resubscribing to the Callahan podcast.
- 16:12Speaker 5: No, I think we're good. We already twisted with him.
- 16:15Speaker 5: So I am thankfully off the hook this week, but
- 16:18Speaker 5: next week this is my twisted question. I'll be back
- 16:21Speaker 5: and please send me your twisted questions. I'll shout you
- 16:23Speaker 5: out on the pod.
- 16:25Speaker 7: I need help, like dick questions I think we need
- 16:28Speaker 7: like we don't.
- 16:28Speaker 6: It doesn't have to be about like would you rather
- 16:30Speaker 6: have a dick for a face, or like you.
- 16:32Speaker 2: Know, ever since the Tom Brady Roast, white guys have
- 16:34Speaker 2: really gotten found.
- 16:35Speaker 5: Out, we need like The best twisted question we had
- 16:39Speaker 5: was would you rather have hit all red lights? Or
- 16:41Speaker 5: have or hit all green lights? Or have the closest
- 16:43Speaker 5: parking spot? Questions like that, like real world, those are
- 16:47Speaker 5: the tough ones, those are the really good ones.
- 16:49Speaker 2: And we're still green lights, right, are you guys green lights?
- 16:52Speaker 2: Are you guys parking spots?
- 16:55Speaker 7: I don't evenink that's the best question.
- 16:57Speaker 6: If you choose parking spot, you're literally dumb in the head.
- 17:02Speaker 7: I don't.
- 17:03Speaker 2: That's all I need to hear. If he doesn't fully
- 17:05Speaker 2: agree with you, Mitch is admitting he's dumb.
- 17:07Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 17:07Speaker 6: I mean there's no parking lot on planet Earth that
- 17:10Speaker 6: is big enough to use the park close enough where
- 17:14Speaker 6: you are missing every red light.
- 17:16Speaker 7: I mean you're skipping.
- 17:18Speaker 6: Like today alone, the freewa was backed up by ease.
- 17:21Speaker 6: I could have got to work like seven minutes faster.
- 17:24Speaker 6: I would park across the street. Still not a big deal.
- 17:28Speaker 2: Not a big deal.
- 17:29Speaker 1: And it's not like if you don't, if you get all.
- 17:31Speaker 2: Green lights you have the worst parking spot ever, you're
- 17:33Speaker 2: still gonna have the luck here and there getting that
- 17:34Speaker 2: front parking spot.
- 17:35Speaker 6: I feel like I have nuns, like parking isn't that
- 17:38Speaker 6: big of an issue, Like I feel like parking used
- 17:40Speaker 6: to be an issue back in the day.
- 17:41Speaker 2: Don't overthink the best answer, because that is the best answer.
- 17:45Speaker 2: Now let's get into the episode. Do I need to
- 17:48Speaker 2: read this ad before I do it? We've already read
- 17:49Speaker 2: this one, right, Ladies and gentlemen, please enjoy the head
- 17:52Speaker 2: coach of the Tennessee Titans, Brian Callahan, thank you so
- 17:56Speaker 2: much for joining us. If you are here for the
- 17:58Speaker 2: first time and seeing his face, my name is Taylor
- 18:01Speaker 2: la One and I would absolutely love it if you subscribed.
- 18:03Speaker 2: If you rated five stars, made a couple of comments
- 18:05Speaker 2: in the YouTube, because that's what helps the algorithm, and
- 18:07Speaker 2: that's what we're trying to do, is build this thing
- 18:09Speaker 2: in a beautiful way. Please do those things. Please enjoy
- 18:11Speaker 2: this episode and let us know what you think. Big
- 18:13Speaker 2: hugs and the tiniest of kisses.
- 18:15Speaker 1: Did then close to your mouth. Don't be scared, don't
- 18:17Speaker 1: be shy. Kim and Lucy, are you a nicotine guy?
- 18:21Speaker 8: I am not anymore? I was at one point. I'm
- 18:22Speaker 8: not anymore.
- 18:23Speaker 1: Well, if you want to try, Lucy, breakers are pretty good.
- 18:26Speaker 8: Are you in the zens?
- 18:28Speaker 1: Let that out, Mitch, you.
- 18:30Speaker 2: Can keep that in with me. I'll tell you about
- 18:33Speaker 2: Zen's man. Big Pharma, big tobacco companies own Zen. When
- 18:38Speaker 2: you pop a loose in your mouth, you're not only
- 18:39Speaker 2: getting the love and taste of nicotine, but you're also
- 18:41Speaker 2: getting the fresh field of a mom and pop shop
- 18:44Speaker 2: helping out the little guy. And that's what's important to us.
- 18:46Speaker 8: That's yeah, you guys seem like you're trying to help
- 18:48Speaker 8: the little guys out.
- 18:49Speaker 2: Always humble beginnings.
- 18:51Speaker 1: Before we uh, before we jumped on here, we were
- 18:55Speaker 1: on the other side talking about coach Bill Callahan's individual yes,
- 18:59Speaker 1: and Taylor was asking, uh, coach Brian, did they call
- 19:02Speaker 1: you coach Brian or did they call you coach Callahan?
- 19:06Speaker 8: You want to know most of them call most of
- 19:07Speaker 8: them call me Cali.
- 19:08Speaker 2: Cali. Yeah, okay, I've got a little extra English on it.
- 19:11Speaker 8: I like that. That is nice. It's it's it's what
- 19:14Speaker 8: most people have called me most of my coaching career. Yeah,
- 19:17Speaker 8: and but yeah, coach works, Cali works. Weird. People don't
- 19:21Speaker 8: call me Brian very often. That's a weird one for me.
- 19:23Speaker 2: Okay, mister Calli it is.
- 19:25Speaker 1: Then. Yeah, they was talking to Cali about the individual
- 19:28Speaker 1: of coach Brian Callahan, and I was like, oh yeah.
- 19:31Speaker 1: Sometimes in our individual linebacker drills and Washington, I'd be like,
- 19:35Speaker 1: all right, water break and then we'd be like, let's
- 19:36Speaker 1: go watch the Let's go watch the hogs is Indy
- 19:38Speaker 1: and we just stand across the field and watch them.
- 19:40Speaker 2: They just be dying the whole time.
- 19:42Speaker 1: It's so funny. Brod's coach Callen's a grinder he gets
- 19:46Speaker 1: out of you.
- 19:46Speaker 2: Coach Bill Callahan, Yeah, Coach Bill Callahan, Yeah, absolutely, what
- 19:49Speaker 2: was go ahead?
- 19:50Speaker 1: I was just going to say, whatever timeframes that you
- 19:53Speaker 1: get with any constraints, you're juicing as much, all the
- 19:57Speaker 1: seconds you're getting it out of the boys.
- 19:59Speaker 2: Has he been like that always? As long as you
- 20:01Speaker 2: can always.
- 20:01Speaker 8: Yeah, always, He's always been full till all the time.
- 20:06Speaker 8: And that's how you get I mean, that's how guys
- 20:07Speaker 8: get better. I mean you like we were watching yesterday,
- 20:10Speaker 8: I think they might have done forty or fifty different
- 20:14Speaker 8: pass sets, and they film every one of them and
- 20:16Speaker 8: he cuts every one of them up to each guy.
- 20:18Speaker 8: So you could watch all your reps for the whole
- 20:20Speaker 8: day and see how you progress during a day and
- 20:22Speaker 8: got better. But yeah, it's every usable second he uses.
- 20:26Speaker 8: It doesn't ever stop.
- 20:27Speaker 2: What's his philosophy on PAS sets, because a lot of
- 20:29Speaker 2: coaches come in they're like, we do it one way
- 20:31Speaker 2: and one way only. Is he let the guys the
- 20:33Speaker 2: boys do what they want.
- 20:34Speaker 8: They well, he coaches the technique that he's looking for.
- 20:38Speaker 8: But there's a lot of variants in the set, the
- 20:40Speaker 8: set angles, if you're jump setting versus a he calls
- 20:43Speaker 8: a congo set versus an angle set. There's there's all
- 20:45Speaker 8: kinds of variation that they use all the time, and
- 20:48Speaker 8: there is some like he That's one of the things
- 20:50Speaker 8: that I think he does great is he's able to
- 20:53Speaker 8: have a conversation with a guy maybe that's played ten
- 20:55Speaker 8: years and say, well, have you done it and find
- 20:58Speaker 8: ways to work with them on what fits as long
- 21:00Speaker 8: as they're still getting the job done. Yeah, he's open
- 21:03Speaker 8: to listening in the guy's talk, but he's a very
- 21:05Speaker 8: particular way about how he coaches it.
- 21:07Speaker 1: Dude.
- 21:07Speaker 2: That's that's so awesome how the old dogs are willing
- 21:10Speaker 2: to still learn and do all that. Because you get
- 21:12Speaker 2: some of those old old school cats, they'll come in
- 21:14Speaker 2: and be like, you do it this way and this way.
- 21:16Speaker 2: Only one guy. Have you ever met Russ Grim?
- 21:19Speaker 8: I have not met him. I know him at it,
- 21:20Speaker 8: I can't say that.
- 21:21Speaker 4: No.
- 21:22Speaker 2: I was with Russ for two years. The greatest offensive
- 21:25Speaker 2: line coach I've ever had in my entire life. Yeah,
- 21:27Speaker 2: and he comes in the first meeting and he's like,
- 21:28Speaker 2: talk to me about stutter. I don't know if you
- 21:29Speaker 2: guys have stuttered open open side pull scheme. And I'm like, okay,
- 21:33Speaker 2: if it's a three technique, reduce to the mic and
- 21:35Speaker 2: if not, then you're this. He's like, wha deuce or
- 21:38Speaker 2: through the mic? That's it. I was like, all right,
- 21:41Speaker 2: what step. He's like, just get to the mic or
- 21:43Speaker 2: do the deuce, and he just like instead of having
- 21:45Speaker 2: to over explain every small detail. He was like, just
- 21:48Speaker 2: know what your job is and go get that done
- 21:50Speaker 2: the best way you can possibly do it, and I'll
- 21:51Speaker 2: help you along the way. And he was huge for
- 21:54Speaker 2: my career. Yeah, keep it simple, stupid, Yeah.
- 21:56Speaker 8: Something to do that, yeah, or something to do that.
- 21:58Speaker 8: It's I think the cool thing that fort like old coaches,
- 22:01Speaker 8: and my dad's not that old, I guess, but he's
- 22:04Speaker 8: kind of old enough. He's older, old gentleman. And what's
- 22:08Speaker 8: been super impressive about him is his ability to go
- 22:10Speaker 8: from like being that old, like the old old school
- 22:13Speaker 8: style of coaching, and he's really adapted how he approaches
- 22:17Speaker 8: today's players. I mean it's different now even then when
- 22:20Speaker 8: when you guys played coming in. I mean you think
- 22:23Speaker 8: about ten years ago, how much different the generation is,
- 22:26Speaker 8: and his ability to relate to those guys and still
- 22:28Speaker 8: connect with them and coaches him hard as hell, but
- 22:32Speaker 8: they all know that he cares about him.
- 22:33Speaker 1: No one knowing that you've seen him kind of adapt
- 22:36Speaker 1: and develop with those times. Is there anything that you've
- 22:38Speaker 1: asked him on, like, you know, noticing that difference in him,
- 22:42Speaker 1: understanding that he has changed.
- 22:44Speaker 8: Yeah, I think there's a there's a you know, I
- 22:46Speaker 8: think one of the things that jumped out was, you know,
- 22:49Speaker 8: they drafted Dewan James last year in Cleveland, and it
- 22:53Speaker 8: was just he's just very different than the guys that
- 22:55Speaker 8: he's been on and in a long time ago, he
- 22:57Speaker 8: might have coached Dewan a very different way and ultimately
- 23:00Speaker 8: it might not have worked very well. And just to
- 23:03Speaker 8: see him adapt and know that maybe the way that
- 23:06Speaker 8: I'm approaching this, de Wan's not going to respond to
- 23:09Speaker 8: me yelling and screaming and get in his face. I
- 23:11Speaker 8: got to be it's positive and encouraging and trying to
- 23:14Speaker 8: point out that these are the things that can help
- 23:15Speaker 8: you and if you want to make a lot of money,
- 23:17Speaker 8: here's how you do it right. And he appeals. He
- 23:19Speaker 8: knows how to appeal to guys a lot of different ways.
- 23:23Speaker 8: He knows the motivations I think. I mean, he's a
- 23:24Speaker 8: master coach. He's he's got every every way to relate
- 23:29Speaker 8: that you can relate in the book. And I asked
- 23:30Speaker 8: him all the time, well what made you do that?
- 23:33Speaker 8: Why did you do that in this case and not
- 23:35Speaker 8: that case? And it's because he knows the player and
- 23:37Speaker 8: he knows how to make it work.
- 23:38Speaker 2: When you get this job at the Tennessee Titans and
- 23:41Speaker 2: you call your old man say I want you to
- 23:43Speaker 2: be the old line coach from my ball club.
- 23:46Speaker 1: How did that?
- 23:46Speaker 2: How did that all go down?
- 23:48Speaker 8: It was It was cool. The backstory is I had
- 23:51Speaker 8: interviewed for two jobs the year before that had gone
- 23:55Speaker 8: oh well, A ways down the road. I felt like
- 23:57Speaker 8: I was in the mix, and I'd have conversation with
- 24:00Speaker 8: him and I said, you know, do you want to
- 24:02Speaker 8: to do this. I've never worked for my dad, never
- 24:05Speaker 8: he I never worked for him at any point. There
- 24:08Speaker 8: have been some chances where I might have, we might
- 24:09Speaker 8: have connected on staff together. I just never worked out.
- 24:11Speaker 8: So I've never spent any time with him in the
- 24:14Speaker 8: coaching profession. And so I asked him this question a
- 24:16Speaker 8: year ago and he was like, no, I don't think
- 24:18Speaker 8: I want to do that. Really yeah, well, I mean
- 24:21Speaker 8: if you think about yeah, but you think about you know,
- 24:26Speaker 8: there's a lot that goes into a father and sign
- 24:28Speaker 8: of working together, and this would be this is the
- 24:30Speaker 8: first time that I think a son has ever hired
- 24:33Speaker 8: their father in a in a substantial role like that.
- 24:36Speaker 8: You know, It's like Kyle Shanahan, Mike's always been around,
- 24:39Speaker 8: but he never hired him in an official could like.
- 24:42Speaker 8: It wasn't like Mike Shanahan was Kyle's coordinator.
- 24:44Speaker 1: Right, if that makes sense.
- 24:46Speaker 8: It's kind of a really unique setup. And so you know,
- 24:49Speaker 8: we had to work through all those things, like my
- 24:50Speaker 8: dad's like, I'm not for everybody. I'm what if you
- 24:53Speaker 8: don't what if you don't like the way I coad
- 24:55Speaker 8: you know what I mean? And you have to have
- 24:56Speaker 8: those conversations, and so we did, and ultimately he was like,
- 24:59Speaker 8: I just think I really like Cleveland, like Kevin Stefanski,
- 25:02Speaker 8: and I'm happy here. I like the guys in the room.
- 25:04Speaker 8: I don't really want to leave, I understand. And so
- 25:07Speaker 8: I kind of just assumed that was going to be
- 25:08Speaker 8: the case as this process went along, and so as
- 25:11Speaker 8: I interviewed, I was everybody asked like, well, you know,
- 25:14Speaker 8: is your dad coming with you? I'm like, no, he's not.
- 25:17Speaker 8: I mean, we had we had the conversation. Is probably
- 25:19Speaker 8: not gonna happen, and I didn't think it would. And
- 25:22Speaker 8: all of a sudden, I get the job and I
- 25:24Speaker 8: call him and tell him I got it, and he
- 25:25Speaker 8: calls the next day and he's like, let me think
- 25:29Speaker 8: about some things and I'll call you back.
- 25:31Speaker 2: Hold on.
- 25:32Speaker 8: I was like, OK, no, I mean that that initial
- 25:36Speaker 8: conversation was like absolutely thrilled we didn't have it in
- 25:39Speaker 8: that moment.
- 25:39Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, but you know, yeah, you guys have a conversation, Hey,
- 25:42Speaker 2: I got the job, proud of your son. Tears in
- 25:44Speaker 2: both of your guys' eyes. The next day he calls
- 25:46Speaker 2: you and without any context, goes, let me think about
- 25:48Speaker 2: coming to help you out.
- 25:50Speaker 8: Yeah. I love that, And I think it just became one.
- 25:54Speaker 8: It became much more real for him in that moment.
- 25:56Speaker 8: And and I think had it been the year prior,
- 25:58Speaker 8: I think the answer still would have been no. And
- 26:00Speaker 8: but having it happen in real time and him going, man,
- 26:03Speaker 8: this is what a unique opportunity to go try to
- 26:06Speaker 8: help my son succeed. And I think I'd want to
- 26:09Speaker 8: be a part of that, and so as you. I'll
- 26:11Speaker 8: go have my press conference. And we were kind of
- 26:13Speaker 8: talking back and forth, and after the press conference, he
- 26:15Speaker 8: was like, this is I want to make I want
- 26:18Speaker 8: to do this, we need.
- 26:19Speaker 1: To do this.
- 26:19Speaker 8: It'll be it'll be really pretty fun. And it's been
- 26:22Speaker 8: maybe the coolest experience of my coaching career is to
- 26:24Speaker 8: be able to go to work with my dad every day.
- 26:26Speaker 8: It's been pretty sweet.
- 26:27Speaker 1: Dude. You had a unincredible like press or when you
- 26:30Speaker 1: were talking about with your dad, like there was a
- 26:32Speaker 1: lot of perspective, a lot of just like you can
- 26:35Speaker 1: tell when you say that, like you genuinely mean it.
- 26:37Speaker 8: Oh yeah.
- 26:37Speaker 1: Was there a reason that you guy that you guys
- 26:39Speaker 1: were never on the same staff. Is there something about
- 26:42Speaker 1: saying maybe yourself to where it's like, Hey, I don't
- 26:44Speaker 1: want to be known this way and don't want to
- 26:46Speaker 1: feel like I get any handouts from somebody who's already
- 26:48Speaker 1: been there, done that.
- 26:48Speaker 8: Yeah, Oh, that's true. One of the things I had finished.
- 26:51Speaker 8: My dad was at at Nebraska at the time. I
- 26:54Speaker 8: was just finishing my playing career, and he goes, he said,
- 26:58Speaker 8: you look, you can come to Nebraska and you could
- 26:59Speaker 8: be a here for me if you want to do that.
- 27:02Speaker 8: I have a spot you can come do that. He goes,
- 27:04Speaker 8: But what I would recommend to you is you've been
- 27:06Speaker 8: at UCLA for for four years. You know the people there,
- 27:09Speaker 8: you know the place. They have also said we'd love
- 27:12Speaker 8: to have you in this role if you want to
- 27:13Speaker 8: come when you graduate and do be a g G
- 27:16Speaker 8: A here at UCLA and my dad was like, I
- 27:17Speaker 8: really think you should stay at UCLA, And in that moment,
- 27:20Speaker 8: I was like, like, damn Dad. Like but the best
- 27:24Speaker 8: advices he had ever given me was he goes, starting
- 27:27Speaker 8: to make your own way. He goes, it's already you're
- 27:29Speaker 8: already going to get all these you know, all the
- 27:33Speaker 8: the nepotism and all stuff. It goes around coaching where
- 27:35Speaker 8: it's like, he goes, but you've I didn't give you your
- 27:37Speaker 8: first job, and he goes, that will matter at some
- 27:40Speaker 8: point for you, and I want you to make your
- 27:42Speaker 8: own way and make your own connections and meet your
- 27:44Speaker 8: own people that can help you, as opposed to me
- 27:47Speaker 8: being the one to do it. And I think that
- 27:48Speaker 8: was the best advice you could have given me, and
- 27:50Speaker 8: it probably was the best thing that happened to me.
- 27:52Speaker 8: He was not going to work for my dad and
- 27:54Speaker 8: staying where I was.
- 27:55Speaker 2: At any point, were you guys close to working together
- 27:58Speaker 2: in the past.
- 27:59Speaker 8: No, nothing that came up. You know, when we first
- 28:01Speaker 8: got to Cincinnati there there was some there was a
- 28:06Speaker 8: chance that maybe it could have worked out. But it's
- 28:08Speaker 8: Zach's first job and he's he wants to hire the
- 28:10Speaker 8: people that that he wanted to hire, and it never
- 28:14Speaker 8: got It was never more than like a curiosity, like, oh,
- 28:17Speaker 8: I wonder if that would work, and it just he
- 28:19Speaker 8: was still in Washington at the time, and it was
- 28:22Speaker 8: all he was again, happy where he's at. He's got
- 28:24Speaker 8: a good line there. It was no big deal. So
- 28:26Speaker 8: it never never went any further than curiosity. But it no,
- 28:31Speaker 8: we've never been really close at any point to working together,
- 28:34Speaker 8: which is kind of crazy to think.
- 28:36Speaker 1: Yeah, talk about how you cut your teeth into the
- 28:39Speaker 1: business and being a GA at U c l A
- 28:41Speaker 1: and moving on from that role.
- 28:43Speaker 8: Yeah, typical GA stuff.
- 28:45Speaker 1: Man.
- 28:45Speaker 8: I made coffee and got people food and worked long hours,
- 28:49Speaker 8: and you know, we had a really good staff there
- 28:52Speaker 8: at UCLA, which it's someday someone will write a story
- 28:56Speaker 8: about it. But Eric Banniman was the running backs coach.
- 29:01Speaker 8: John Embry was our tight ends coach. Dino Babers was
- 29:04Speaker 8: the receivers coach. Tom Cable was the offensive coordinator. Jim
- 29:09Speaker 8: Soboda was a quarterbacks coach. We had all these guys
- 29:12Speaker 8: that all went on to be head coaches, you know,
- 29:15Speaker 8: within a certain period of time, and really dynamic staff
- 29:18Speaker 8: all these and so I got to learn from all
- 29:20Speaker 8: these guys as a really young coach, which probably a
- 29:22Speaker 8: huge reason of why that experience was so good for me.
- 29:25Speaker 8: But man, it was a it's a grind ga life
- 29:27Speaker 8: is is uh is not for everybody. Back then that
- 29:30Speaker 8: was you only had two gas that could be on
- 29:33Speaker 8: the field, and so it was like it was two
- 29:35Speaker 8: or three guys that did everything. Now you have all
- 29:37Speaker 8: these analysts and there's all this different stuff that they
- 29:39Speaker 8: didn't have back then. By rule, you couldn't have anybody
- 29:42Speaker 8: else anybody on But it depends on where you went
- 29:47Speaker 8: now U C l A. I can guarantee you that.
- 29:48Speaker 2: Because really followers the Bruins.
- 29:51Speaker 8: Huh Yeah, it was me. In fact, the gas there
- 29:53Speaker 8: were me, Clark Lee, head coach at Vanderbilt, Ryan Ficken
- 29:58Speaker 8: who's been in the NFL for quite some time as
- 30:00Speaker 8: a special teams coordinator, and Phil Rauscher, who's the line
- 30:04Speaker 8: coach at the Jags. And so it was a bunch
- 30:07Speaker 8: of guys, like we were all young coaches and we've
- 30:09Speaker 8: all had these pretty good careers, but that was all
- 30:11Speaker 8: we had and we had to do every We did
- 30:13Speaker 8: everything really, I mean operation stuff, grinding all the tape,
- 30:17Speaker 8: breaking it all down, breaking all the tape down before
- 30:19Speaker 8: all the pff dat I got supplied to everybody. I mean,
- 30:22Speaker 8: you had to break down the down and distance. You
- 30:24Speaker 8: didn't know what personnel in the fields. You couldn't see
- 30:25Speaker 8: jersey numbers because the tape wasn't an HD. It's just
- 30:28Speaker 8: a whole different way of doing things than it is now.
- 30:30Speaker 8: But it was. It was a lot of work. It
- 30:31Speaker 8: was hard.
- 30:32Speaker 2: So they didn't look over at the SEC and go,
- 30:35Speaker 2: you know, they got a lot of guys over there,
- 30:36Speaker 2: maybe we should do a couple of things too.
- 30:38Speaker 1: No like that.
- 30:41Speaker 8: Yeah, yeah, we were, They just didn't have the you know,
- 30:44Speaker 8: it is a public means, yeah, I mean.
- 30:46Speaker 2: Yeah, but U is a nice area. It's Pasadena for sure.
- 30:49Speaker 1: But as far as like calling the shots, the big
- 30:51Speaker 1: wigs like a fair enough football over everything will find
- 30:53Speaker 1: a way.
- 30:54Speaker 8: Yeah, very very academically drove. Yeah, yeah, yeah, very academically.

- 32:20Speaker 2: Brian Callahan, big hugs, tiny kisses. You brought up a PFF.
- 32:23Speaker 2: What's your what's your stance on PFF's rating system.
- 32:27Speaker 8: I think there's value in a baseline, like there is
- 32:29Speaker 8: some things that you can you can you can look
- 32:32Speaker 8: at it, and there's a number that they assigned to, uh,
- 32:36Speaker 8: particularly to some positions that are really hard for like
- 32:38Speaker 8: the average person to have any idea what is good
- 32:40Speaker 8: and bad. But as far as like is it the
- 32:43Speaker 8: end all be all and the grading system not at all.
- 32:46Speaker 8: I mean it's you got to watch the game, you
- 32:49Speaker 8: need to understand assignments. And they've gotten better. I will say,
- 32:51Speaker 8: like the grading system has gotten better over the years.
- 32:53Speaker 8: They've refined it. I use it more for some of
- 32:56Speaker 8: the just the amount of data that they have. I
- 32:59Speaker 8: can go, let me see every screen from every team
- 33:01Speaker 8: for the last four years and I can pull them
- 33:03Speaker 8: all up and watch them all. Yeah, and that's where
- 33:06Speaker 8: the value and that is for me. The grades, I
- 33:08Speaker 8: don't really you know, I don't really put a whole
- 33:11Speaker 8: lot of stock in the grades.
- 33:12Speaker 1: It feels like they'll probably use the grades like have
- 33:14Speaker 1: that there, and then obviously every team does their own,
- 33:16Speaker 1: and then I'm sure that they.
- 33:17Speaker 8: There's a bench a little bit. Yeah, yeah, there's a benchmark.
- 33:19Speaker 8: I mean it does give you it is it is
- 33:21Speaker 8: a halfway accurate depiction of what a what a good
- 33:26Speaker 8: and bad might look like.
- 33:27Speaker 2: You know what I mean, Yeah, if it's cut and dry,
- 33:29Speaker 2: But the gray areas I feel like is we're PF
- 33:31Speaker 2: because they're not there with the language of the play
- 33:33Speaker 2: call and what the exact technick is supposed to do.
- 33:36Speaker 2: I don't hate PFF at all, but there was a
- 33:38Speaker 2: like there's a time where players, players in the locker
- 33:41Speaker 2: room and the Titans were like kind of worried that
- 33:43Speaker 2: if their PFF grade was bad that teams and coaches
- 33:46Speaker 2: were looking at that. Do coaches look at the PFF
- 33:48Speaker 2: grade ever, and go, no, no, no, maybe we should
- 33:51Speaker 2: maybe we're doing something wrong.
- 33:52Speaker 8: No, I don't think I've never looked at it like that. Yeah,
- 33:55Speaker 8: I've not been around anybody that ever has used that
- 33:57Speaker 8: as like, that's our grade for a player. You're still
- 34:00Speaker 8: great a player. Watch the tape and understand what's being asked.
- 34:04Speaker 8: Systematically as well, other than just hey, this guy graded
- 34:07Speaker 8: at a eighty two point six, Like, I don't know
- 34:10Speaker 8: what that means. Number that's good if you got yeah,
- 34:15Speaker 8: it's a solid numb you wouldn't be so mad about it.
- 34:17Speaker 2: Yeah, no doubt, no doubt.
- 34:19Speaker 1: There will be the time where you feel strongly about PFF,
- 34:22Speaker 1: but then you grade out well, so then it's like,
- 34:23Speaker 1: all right, where are you going to stand? You know
- 34:26Speaker 1: what I mean? Like say you hate PFF, but the
- 34:28Speaker 1: ninety five it's like, well, I mean I did.
- 34:30Speaker 8: Have a situation they might be honest something.
- 34:33Speaker 2: Yeah, Yeah, I had a situation in twenty sixteen where
- 34:35Speaker 2: they were grading me well and then Paul Kaharskan the
- 34:39Speaker 2: group of the Titans news guys, were like, how do
- 34:40Speaker 2: you feel about that? And I took a stance then
- 34:42Speaker 2: and there they don't they don't run the show. Yeah,
- 34:44Speaker 2: they don't run the show big quickly my grades went down,
- 34:47Speaker 2: so I don't know. Yeah, that's where they might have
- 34:49Speaker 2: kind of start. Yeah, it might be a little bit
- 34:51Speaker 2: of takeing over the PFF.
- 34:53Speaker 1: Yeah. With you're throughout your coaching journey, you've been at
- 34:55Speaker 1: some cool spots which spot or stop that you've been
- 34:59Speaker 1: at has you feel has been the most pivotal for
- 35:01Speaker 1: where you are now.
- 35:03Speaker 8: God, They've all, all, for different reasons, have been really
- 35:06Speaker 8: really influential. The two that the two of the most
- 35:10Speaker 8: are my time in Denver with Peyton Manning for four
- 35:13Speaker 8: of those six years I was there, and then the
- 35:16Speaker 8: journey in Cincinnati from where we started to where we
- 35:18Speaker 8: ended up. Those two spots are probably the most because
- 35:21Speaker 8: they're the longest days I had. They were the most influential. Obviously,
- 35:24Speaker 8: being around Peyton Manning for any amount of time is
- 35:26Speaker 8: a is a blessing in and of itself. But yeah,
- 35:29Speaker 8: he's that was like a PhD in quarterback.
- 35:32Speaker 1: We grow him here at the bus. The fly keeps
- 35:35Speaker 1: flying around.
- 35:36Speaker 8: Look you, I mean, Cicada's in here yet, I know
- 35:39Speaker 8: we're They're.
- 35:39Speaker 1: Everywhere out here. Dude, watching Peyton in that last year
- 35:43Speaker 1: where he necessarily couldn't throw it beyond five ten yards,
- 35:45Speaker 1: what was it like sitting back? Yeah, I mean, I'm
- 35:49Speaker 1: sure he'd say it. Well, watching him operate from being
- 35:52Speaker 1: more limited than.
- 35:53Speaker 8: He ever has, Yeah, it was really It was a
- 35:57Speaker 8: It was a wild year because we had just transition
- 36:00Speaker 8: from in Gary Kubiak was the head coach, and then
- 36:03Speaker 8: they brought that whole system which was vastly different from
- 36:06Speaker 8: the one that he had run for the better part
- 36:08Speaker 8: of eighteen years at that point, and so there was
- 36:11Speaker 8: a big back and forth there. He had gotten injured
- 36:13Speaker 8: that year and missed a bunch of time and then
- 36:15Speaker 8: came back for the playoffs. At the very end, brock
- 36:18Speaker 8: Ostwall I think had thrown a couple interceptions and they
- 36:21Speaker 8: replaced him at halftime right at the very end of
- 36:23Speaker 8: the season in like a must win game against the Chargers,
- 36:26Speaker 8: and then he ended up playing the playoffs. It was
- 36:27Speaker 8: just it was a roller coaster season. It was a
- 36:29Speaker 8: lot of ups and downs. But what the cool part
- 36:32Speaker 8: was you saw what made him so great was his
- 36:34Speaker 8: ability to process and know what to do and when
- 36:37Speaker 8: to do it in the moment. Like it was unbelievable.
- 36:40Speaker 8: And even with a diminishing physical skill set, he wasn't
- 36:44Speaker 8: what he was when he was in his twenties. I mean,
- 36:47Speaker 8: it was unbelievable what he pulled off with his brain
- 36:52Speaker 8: and just being able to know what to do with
- 36:53Speaker 8: the football.
- 36:54Speaker 1: Yeah, what's he like watching at practice? Like I've had
- 36:56Speaker 1: teammates who have played with him, they're like, you know,
- 36:58Speaker 1: if a tight end drops of ball, he'll take he'll
- 37:00Speaker 1: take the he'll remove the tight end, even if even
- 37:02Speaker 1: if you're back there like oh no, get back out there,
- 37:04Speaker 1: the Sheriff's like, no, no, give me somebody else who's
- 37:06Speaker 1: gonna catch the ball and be dependable in these moments.
- 37:09Speaker 1: Like what was he like? That's accurate.
- 37:10Speaker 8: That's what it was. It was. It was a standard.
- 37:13Speaker 8: And it's actually funny we're having a conversation today about
- 37:16Speaker 8: guys that are like that, get to that point in
- 37:18Speaker 8: their careers that have the pelts on the wall and
- 37:22Speaker 8: the experience, but on top of that, the pressure, you know,
- 37:25Speaker 8: the expectation is that they're gonna win every game. Aaron Rodgers,
- 37:29Speaker 8: Tom Brady, Drew Brees. Those guys get to a certain
- 37:31Speaker 8: point in their career where they don't allow anything other
- 37:35Speaker 8: than what the highest standard is possible, and if you
- 37:38Speaker 8: don't meet it, you're not gonna be playing with them.
- 37:42Speaker 8: And that's how he operated, and and I appreciated that
- 37:45Speaker 8: because he's got all the pressure he's got. I gotta
- 37:47Speaker 8: I gotta do my part. And if I'm if I'm
- 37:49Speaker 8: gonna do all this, then I'm gonna make sure that
- 37:52Speaker 8: everybody around me is is at the same level that
- 37:54Speaker 8: I am. And I thought that was a really cool
- 37:57Speaker 8: thing to witness and in person. But that's how it
- 37:59Speaker 8: would be if you if you didn't if you missed
- 38:01Speaker 8: an assignment. He was particularly ruthless on like running backs
- 38:04Speaker 8: and protection and he had to be able to trust
- 38:06Speaker 8: him to do because he didn't you know, I don't
- 38:07Speaker 8: want to get hit, right, And if they missed an assignment,
- 38:10Speaker 8: it was like give me the next one, or like
- 38:12Speaker 8: if he's if he's coming into the game, I'll come out,
- 38:15Speaker 8: you know.
- 38:15Speaker 1: Like that.
- 38:16Speaker 8: It was that intensity and the expectation.
- 38:18Speaker 1: He's coming into the game, Coach Kelly, you don't put
- 38:20Speaker 1: him in the game, I'll be out.
- 38:21Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 38:21Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 38:22Speaker 8: If I see him coming on the field, you'll see
- 38:24Speaker 8: me walking off.
- 38:25Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 38:26Speaker 4: Uh.
- 38:26Speaker 8: So that part was just it's just a demand of
- 38:29Speaker 8: the standard of what you expect every day and it
- 38:31Speaker 8: was awesome And then again everybody rose to meet it.
- 38:34Speaker 8: You know, we had young players and Eric Decker and
- 38:36Speaker 8: Demarus Thomas and c. J. Anderson, I mean, meet some
- 38:39Speaker 8: guys that were unproven at the time that he helped
- 38:44Speaker 8: make what they became. And it was a really cool process.
- 38:47Speaker 8: To be a part of man. He's unlike anybody I've
- 38:49Speaker 8: ever been around.
- 38:50Speaker 2: What's it like with the coaches during practice when he's
- 38:52Speaker 2: sending a guy away and the coach is like, no,
- 38:54Speaker 2: you're in, And there's like this kind of this battle
- 38:56Speaker 2: of egos between the sheriff and the coaches. Get uncomfortable
- 39:00Speaker 2: at all? Is there like in the meeting room like this.
- 39:03Speaker 8: Can we be honest about it? It's if he doesn't
- 39:07Speaker 8: want him in, he's not going to be whether coaches aren't.
- 39:09Speaker 1: Saying a word like yeah, yeah, you probably right eighteen.
- 39:12Speaker 8: I mean that's just what That's just what it was,
- 39:14Speaker 8: and that's why and you and you, and it wasn't
- 39:18Speaker 8: like that all the time, but like there was, there
- 39:21Speaker 8: was a standard, and if you didn't meet it, the
- 39:22Speaker 8: expectation was that you wouldn't be you wouldn't be there
- 39:25Speaker 8: playing with them. But that's also what drove guys to
- 39:28Speaker 8: be even better than they thought they could be, was
- 39:30Speaker 8: because they wanted to be a part of it, and
- 39:32Speaker 8: they wanted to be in that mode. They wanted to
- 39:34Speaker 8: be accounted on. And it's amazing what happens when you
- 39:37Speaker 8: got a guy making sure that you better do it.
- 39:39Speaker 8: Right or you can't be. It drives you to be
- 39:42Speaker 8: great truth you.
- 39:43Speaker 2: So you have Peyton Manning and then you go to
- 39:45Speaker 2: Cincinnati and you get blessed with Joe Cool Joe Burrow.
- 39:48Speaker 8: Yeah what is Joe? The staff and the two years,
- 39:52Speaker 8: the two years in Detroit were phenomenal. It was I God,
- 39:57Speaker 8: Matthews talk about underrated man like, I think he's one
- 40:01Speaker 8: of the best quarterbacks in football and has been for
- 40:03Speaker 8: a long time, and I think he finally gets his due,
- 40:05Speaker 8: but there was a while there where he didn't. And
- 40:08Speaker 8: he might be one of the toughest players I've ever
- 40:10Speaker 8: been around, and one of the most crazy talented quarterbacks
- 40:15Speaker 8: that I've seen play. I mean, he's unbelievable.
- 40:17Speaker 2: That clip of them in like a two minute drive
- 40:19Speaker 2: to win the game and he like gets his shoulder
- 40:20Speaker 2: out or something like that and he's on the sideline that.
- 40:23Speaker 1: Was in his career.
- 40:24Speaker 2: Yeah, Yes, that was like just one of the cooler
- 40:26Speaker 2: things you see a quarterback do because he's like hurt
- 40:29Speaker 2: and he's like, I'll do it, and he throws a touchdown.
- 40:30Speaker 2: The games over they win, He's.
- 40:32Speaker 8: Like, shoulders broke, he broke his color bone. No ship, Yeah,
- 40:36Speaker 8: I think that's what it was, if I remember correctly.
- 40:38Speaker 8: But yeah, he's you want to talk about. I mean
- 40:41Speaker 8: that you guys know, the things that guys play through
- 40:43Speaker 8: that people don't know about is it would be shocking.
- 40:46Speaker 8: I think if people knew what the guy's dealt with
- 40:50Speaker 8: during a football season and the things that he played
- 40:52Speaker 8: through and the toughness that he had, it was it
- 40:55Speaker 8: might be the toughest guy I've ever seen. I mean, truthfully,
- 40:58Speaker 8: Oh yeah he is. He is hard, hard, knows, tough
- 41:01Speaker 8: as all get out, and he's an awesome guy to
- 41:04Speaker 8: be around. I don't know how much time you guys
- 41:05Speaker 8: have spent with him, but I.
- 41:07Speaker 2: Never I don't think I met him either.
- 41:09Speaker 1: You just hear, you hear, just like that time.
- 41:12Speaker 2: Why do you think he was still under raid for
- 41:14Speaker 2: so long? Just because the franchise layoffs?
- 41:17Speaker 8: Yea, they didn't win enough, you know, And that's again,
- 41:20Speaker 8: that's a the wins tend to become a quarterback stat
- 41:23Speaker 8: which they probably shouldn't be. But there he was on
- 41:25Speaker 8: teams that were probably on the on the brink and
- 41:28Speaker 8: could never quite get over that hump. And and then
- 41:30Speaker 8: obviously he goes to l A and he's been lightning
- 41:32Speaker 8: on fires and every time. I mean, he's been unbelievable. There,
- 41:36Speaker 8: wins the super Bowl, all the like. It's he's finally
- 41:39Speaker 8: I think, getting his due as a player. But yeah,
- 41:41Speaker 8: he was that player before.
- 41:43Speaker 1: He got to l A.
- 41:44Speaker 8: He just didn't probably get the recognition for it.
- 41:46Speaker 1: And then you get Joe B. Yeah. Yeah, You've been
- 41:49Speaker 1: around some cats.
- 41:50Speaker 8: I've been very lucky, I've been very bad.
- 41:53Speaker 1: Stafford, Joe Burrow. What are the similarities that all three
- 41:57Speaker 1: of those guys have? And then you've talked about a
- 41:59Speaker 1: little bit on the way that staff was Peyton was,
- 42:03Speaker 1: and then also some differences with Joe B.
- 42:05Speaker 8: Yeah, I think it was. It was very different because
- 42:07Speaker 8: Peyton was obviously going and I think when he came
- 42:09Speaker 8: to Denver that was like year fifteen when I went,
- 42:12Speaker 8: when I was with Matthew, I think Matthew was going
- 42:14Speaker 8: into like seven eight A, seven eight nine ten somewhere.
- 42:17Speaker 8: He was, he had been playing for a couple of years.
- 42:20Speaker 8: And then having Joe was different because Joe was a
- 42:22Speaker 8: rookie obviously a highly highly regarded and his reputation preceded
- 42:27Speaker 8: him when he got drafted, but he was still a
- 42:29Speaker 8: rookie and so that was a really fun process to
- 42:32Speaker 8: try to help that development from being a rookie and
- 42:36Speaker 8: as you guys know, rookies are rookies even no matter
- 42:38Speaker 8: how good they are, still takes some time. But to
- 42:40Speaker 8: see him become everything that we thought he could become
- 42:45Speaker 8: and he knew he could become was pretty awesome. And
- 42:47Speaker 8: that's because he shares a lot of the same traits
- 42:49Speaker 8: that that Peyton and Matthew have in terms of, you know,
- 42:52Speaker 8: there's just an edge to the there's just something about
- 42:56Speaker 8: those guys and you know it when you see it,
- 42:58Speaker 8: where they just don't accept any thing other than the best,
- 43:02Speaker 8: and there is no such thing as failure like they
- 43:04Speaker 8: do not they won't fail, they can't fail, and there's
- 43:08Speaker 8: there's a willpower in that. I think that's kind of
- 43:10Speaker 8: the baseline of who they are. And then there's a
- 43:12Speaker 8: drive to be the best there is, yeah, and there's
- 43:16Speaker 8: just and then he has the ability to deliver on it,
- 43:19Speaker 8: which is pretty cool. Very different personality than Peyton and Matthew.
- 43:24Speaker 8: They're all very unique, but they share that commonality where
- 43:28Speaker 8: they're they're at their core, they are they are assassins,
- 43:33Speaker 8: ladies and gentlemen.

- 44:48Speaker 2: is yours. Sorry, I'm a little tired today, but let's
- 44:50Speaker 2: get back to this episode. When did you win Joe?
- 44:53Speaker 2: When Joe walks into the Bengals franchise and you say
- 44:57Speaker 2: it takes rookies, doesn't matter how good they are. Takeing
- 44:59Speaker 2: some little bit of time, when did you know, Okay,
- 45:01Speaker 2: we got the franchise.
- 45:03Speaker 8: Quarterback, probably about halfway through that first year where you're
- 45:07Speaker 8: still kind of figuring some things out. Obviously it's a
- 45:09Speaker 8: COVID year, so it's even more challenging. So he has
- 45:11Speaker 8: no offseason. We don't have any OTA's, there's all virtual.
- 45:15Speaker 2: God, imagine picking up a playbook.
- 45:18Speaker 8: And and then there's no fans in the stadium. So
- 45:20Speaker 8: his first game, we play the Chargers, and this is
- 45:25Speaker 8: the game where uh Tyrod got injected and they punched
- 45:31Speaker 8: Lung and so then it was Herbert and him playing
- 45:34Speaker 8: and Joe goes down at the very end of the game.
- 45:38Speaker 8: It would been like the legend of Joe Burrow would
- 45:40Speaker 8: have only grown end of the game, goes down and
- 45:42Speaker 8: throws a fade stop to aj Green in the corner
- 45:45Speaker 8: of the end zone and they calls for OPI. So
- 45:48Speaker 8: the game winning touchdown gets called back. So we go
- 45:50Speaker 8: kick a field goal to tie it, and our kicker
- 45:53Speaker 8: cramped and missed the game winning field goal. There's no
- 45:57Speaker 8: there's nobody in the stands cramps and we miss, and
- 46:01Speaker 8: so here's this like, here's this like busting out of
- 46:03Speaker 8: the scene. Here comes Joe Burrow come back win last
- 46:05Speaker 8: minute when in his first start, and it just it
- 46:08Speaker 8: isn't And it was like, that's that's that's unfortunate. You
- 46:13Speaker 8: saw a glimpse of that and that in that drive like, oh,
- 46:15Speaker 8: this guy is gonna be pretty good, I think. And
- 46:17Speaker 8: then each game he successively got better. And I think
- 46:20Speaker 8: the one game you probably played in potentially, I think
- 46:25Speaker 8: Tennessee came to Cincinnati and we had lost, and then
- 46:29Speaker 8: we had five new starters up front, and then we
- 46:32Speaker 8: had signed Quinton Spain on Friday and he started at
- 46:34Speaker 8: left guard on Sunday, Yes, and so we had we
- 46:40Speaker 8: had a guy that hadn't practiced with us, and we
- 46:41Speaker 8: had five new starters. And that was the game where
- 46:43Speaker 8: Joe sort of took it on and took it on
- 46:45Speaker 8: his back and we ended up winning the game. We
- 46:47Speaker 8: played pretty well, and it was that game when it
- 46:49Speaker 8: was like he's arrived, this is the game, He's he
- 46:53Speaker 8: is what we thought he was going to be. And
- 46:55Speaker 8: then he goes and plays good for another I think
- 46:56Speaker 8: maybe one more week, two more weeks, and he gets
- 46:58Speaker 8: hurt in Washington and tears me up. God so the season,
- 47:00Speaker 8: but he was we were hitting this rise, we were
- 47:02Speaker 8: we were going to win. I think we would have
- 47:05Speaker 8: won a handful of games on a stretch, and I
- 47:06Speaker 8: think people would have looked like, oh, here he comes.
- 47:08Speaker 8: But he gets hurt and it's out. Nobody knows how
- 47:10Speaker 8: good he's really going to be. And he ultimately sacrificed
- 47:13Speaker 8: his knee for Jamar Chase because that allowed us. We
- 47:16Speaker 8: were not very good after that, and we picked Jamar
- 47:19Speaker 8: the next year, the fifth overall.
- 47:20Speaker 2: But a lot of stuff came up in that draft
- 47:22Speaker 2: where when when he gets hurt, everyone's like they need protection.
- 47:26Speaker 2: You just said all the offensive lineman route. You sign
- 47:28Speaker 2: a guy off the streets, he comes and starts for
- 47:30Speaker 2: you that week, and you guys go pick Jamar Chase.
- 47:33Speaker 2: Where was the thought process in that building when you're
- 47:35Speaker 2: evaluating because you're you're thinking franchise quarterback. We know this
- 47:38Speaker 2: is the guy, we got to get him. Offensive lineman?
- 47:41Speaker 8: What was it was the pin Sul it was and
- 47:43Speaker 8: Jamal That was like the big debate. It's like, how
- 47:46Speaker 8: do the how can the Bengals not draft the left tackle?
- 47:48Speaker 2: Looking back on it, you can't go wrong like both
- 47:51Speaker 2: those yeah.
- 47:52Speaker 8: Both of me, Like these guys are going to both
- 47:54Speaker 8: be all Pro players, right and whoever you pick was
- 47:57Speaker 8: going to be right. But you we went back and
- 48:01Speaker 8: forth and there was playing a debate, plenty of opinion
- 48:04Speaker 8: on it, and ultimately I had went back some of
- 48:08Speaker 8: my time in Denver when we had Damarius Thomas, Eric
- 48:11Speaker 8: Decker and then Emmanuel Sanders and then in the slot
- 48:13Speaker 8: we had Wes Welker and we were we were and.
- 48:17Speaker 2: I was so nasty underrated, Yeah, very very good player.
- 48:22Speaker 8: And we we had a game against New England when
- 48:24Speaker 8: we were in Denver down the stretch and it was
- 48:28Speaker 8: two bad was back to back plays or maybe two
- 48:30Speaker 8: out of three plays. End of the game. We had
- 48:32Speaker 8: to go win the game, and we hit two go
- 48:34Speaker 8: balls down one each one each side. I think one
- 48:37Speaker 8: was Marius, one was to em Manual, and it was like, man,
- 48:41Speaker 8: when you got to win versus press coverage, it doesn't
- 48:44Speaker 8: matter who you have up front. If you can't have
- 48:45Speaker 8: a guy that can go win that matchup, you're gonna
- 48:48Speaker 8: have a hard time throwing the ball to win in
- 48:50Speaker 8: the NFL, and that always just stuck with me, and
- 48:52Speaker 8: I always thought that was a good way to build
- 48:55Speaker 8: an offense. Is that make sure you have guys that
- 48:57Speaker 8: can win. And you know, we're getting this debate back
- 48:59Speaker 8: and forth about the tackle and the receiver, and I
- 49:01Speaker 8: was like, well, I said, if he can win fast enough,
- 49:03Speaker 8: it's not gonna matter how long we blot. If he
- 49:04Speaker 8: can win quick, we can get the ball out quick.
- 49:06Speaker 8: And one of the things that Joe does so well
- 49:08Speaker 8: is play on time in process and so the ball
- 49:11Speaker 8: gets distributed. And it's like, well, we can negate some
- 49:14Speaker 8: of the offensive line issues if we got elite playmakers outside.
- 49:18Speaker 8: And that was my stance, and then it's a couple
- 49:20Speaker 8: of other people had some didn't have that. So it
- 49:22Speaker 8: went back and forth, but ultimately we landed on that
- 49:24Speaker 8: Jamar would be the the gay that scores touchdowns. Would
- 49:28Speaker 8: be one that would be more helpful for our offense,
- 49:30Speaker 8: and thank god we did.
- 49:31Speaker 2: So you were the guy that brought Jamara Cincinnati.
- 49:33Speaker 8: I'm not going to claim. I'm not going to claim.
- 49:36Speaker 8: I'm just telling you my perspective on the argument was that,
- 49:39Speaker 8: and I voiced that. I mean, that was my progative
- 49:42Speaker 8: the voice it as a coordinator, and I think Zach
- 49:44Speaker 8: felt the same way as Zach Taylor. I think he
- 49:47Speaker 8: landed on that same argument. So the two of us
- 49:49Speaker 8: sort of were in agreement, but ultimately it was that's
- 49:53Speaker 8: a Zach Taylor, Duke Tobin and Mike Brown decision that
- 49:56Speaker 8: gets made. But that's that was the argument back and forth.
- 49:58Speaker 1: Then the most fiery, drama filled moment in a war
- 50:02Speaker 1: room that you've seen.
- 50:04Speaker 2: Hold on, Could I just did you guys talk to
- 50:06Speaker 2: Joe Burrow at all about Hey, should we go tackle?
- 50:09Speaker 2: Why receive it? Being a rookie, but knowing he's.
- 50:13Speaker 8: Joe's involved, we kept Joe in the loop on all
- 50:16Speaker 8: the personnel decisions and the thought process and we actually
- 50:18Speaker 8: talked to him a lot because knew Jamar and so Jamardin'
- 50:21Speaker 8: if you if you remember Jamar didn't play that year
- 50:23Speaker 8: because it was COVID year and he sat out and
- 50:25Speaker 8: so there wasn't any recent film on him other than
- 50:27Speaker 8: the year that he was tearing up the sec with
- 50:29Speaker 8: Joe killing and so Joe was like, Joe didn't Joe
- 50:32Speaker 8: was like, I'll take Jamar every every day and twice
- 50:36Speaker 8: on Sunday like this, It's not even a debate for him.
- 50:38Speaker 8: He because he knew what he was, uh, he knew
- 50:40Speaker 8: how impactful he could be. And so Joe was all
- 50:42Speaker 8: in favor of Jamar in that situation. And I'm glad
- 50:47Speaker 8: he was.
- 50:47Speaker 2: I love it.
- 50:48Speaker 1: So I forgot you off get that same question. Yeah,
- 50:51Speaker 1: most fiery or drama filled, tense moment in a in
- 50:55Speaker 1: a war room that you've that you've been a part
- 50:57Speaker 1: of or witnessed.
- 50:59Speaker 8: You know what. Not all there hasn't been as many.
- 51:02Speaker 1: Were somebody you look back, you're like, man, maybe they
- 51:03Speaker 1: should we should have took that guy.
- 51:06Speaker 8: There's always that. I mean, I would say the debates
- 51:09Speaker 8: between the players that were available to us and at
- 51:12Speaker 8: pick five that year was pretty intense. I mean there
- 51:15Speaker 8: was some guys that felt like Kyle Pitts was a
- 51:17Speaker 8: really fantastic prospect coming out and he was the Pinna Suol,
- 51:22Speaker 8: those the other guys that were involved with Obviously Devanta
- 51:25Speaker 8: Smith and Jalen Watta were both in that conversation, So
- 51:27Speaker 8: those were pretty Those were pretty intense conversations because guys
- 51:31Speaker 8: are pretty convicted on what they thought those players could be.
- 51:34Speaker 8: And so I remember a good couple back and forth
- 51:36Speaker 8: on some of those debates on this player over this player,
- 51:41Speaker 8: and ultimately when you look back, like, well, we weren't
- 51:44Speaker 8: gonna be wrong either way. All those guys ended up
- 51:45Speaker 8: being great players, so we know nobody was wrong in
- 51:48Speaker 8: that regard. But when you're debating on who to pick,
- 51:50Speaker 8: and do you take Penna Suol or do you do
- 51:54Speaker 8: you take Pina Suol and try to take Devanta Smith,
- 51:56Speaker 8: and you know, what's the what? What player are you
- 51:59Speaker 8: looking at? And you obviously account for some of those
- 52:01Speaker 8: quarterbacks going and you look at the world of player
- 52:03Speaker 8: you're in and you got a debate like hell, and
- 52:06Speaker 8: those usually means that you made the best decision too,
- 52:08Speaker 8: because you've you've flushed out all the all the good
- 52:11Speaker 8: and bads and pros and cons of all the players.
- 52:12Speaker 8: And but those were pretty intent. Those debates are pretty intense.
- 52:15Speaker 8: Those are the ones that I remember the most because
- 52:17Speaker 8: you're picking at five, that's a that should be a
- 52:21Speaker 8: Hall of Fame style player and you can't get it wrong.
- 52:25Speaker 2: Yeah, with with that clock ticking down at five, how
- 52:28Speaker 2: long did that discussion go before someone's like, hey, we
- 52:31Speaker 2: got to call this thing in or was it pretty
- 52:32Speaker 2: decided when you knew.
- 52:35Speaker 8: You once you knew what were the players, Because we
- 52:37Speaker 8: weren't sure who was going to Gore is going to
- 52:39Speaker 8: go to Atlanta, you didn't know. You didn't know if
- 52:41Speaker 8: Miami was going to try to trade up. There was
- 52:42Speaker 8: a whole lot of stuff going on that until you're
- 52:46Speaker 8: on the clock, you don't know. But the decision had
- 52:48Speaker 8: been made prior to the draft, even starting that if
- 52:51Speaker 8: this this is the order we're going to go in.
- 52:53Speaker 8: If this is if Jamar is there, we're taking them.
- 52:56Speaker 8: If Jamar's not there, we're taking pay. If those two
- 52:59Speaker 8: are both gone, we're taking this guy. So that stuff
- 53:02Speaker 8: all gets settled out prior to the draft, even starting.
- 53:04Speaker 2: When you when you hearing you talk about the Bengals
- 53:07Speaker 2: and how you guys established your offense gets me fired
- 53:10Speaker 2: up for the Titans because you're seeing how you view
- 53:12Speaker 2: the field, how you feel you need guys to win
- 53:14Speaker 2: and press one on one coverage, and you're getting all
- 53:17Speaker 2: these athletes in there. All you have so many, so
- 53:20Speaker 2: much talent on the offensive side of the ball. Now, like,
- 53:23Speaker 2: what what's the expectation WHI should be happening for the Titans?
- 53:26Speaker 2: We win it all this year?
- 53:27Speaker 8: Is this it?
- 53:28Speaker 1: You know?
- 53:29Speaker 2: I tell I tell Jack and Garrett back there, who've
- 53:31Speaker 2: been Titans fans. It's the inception of Tennessee that we're
- 53:33Speaker 2: going to win the Super Bowl.
- 53:34Speaker 8: I tell our guys all the time that we don't
- 53:35Speaker 8: make any any predictions or promises, So I I certainly
- 53:38Speaker 8: can't step out here and.
- 53:39Speaker 2: That's good meeting set, that's good.
- 53:41Speaker 8: Anything other than that, I will say this, though, I
- 53:44Speaker 8: am excited about what we've done. The players we've added.
- 53:47Speaker 8: I think they're all you know we had with Calvin
- 53:50Speaker 8: Ridley and Tyler Boyd and and de Hop coming back,
- 53:53Speaker 8: and Tony Pollard mixed mixing in with with Taj Spears,
- 53:57Speaker 8: and you get a chance to draft J. C. Latham,
- 54:00Speaker 8: and you got a year two for Peter Skronsky, and
- 54:02Speaker 8: now you go signing Lloyd Kushienberry to send Like, I
- 54:04Speaker 8: feel like there's some there's some really exciting pieces that
- 54:09Speaker 8: you know, if we can put it all together, I
- 54:10Speaker 8: think we have a chance. And obviously I believe in
- 54:12Speaker 8: Will Levis. It's a large reason why I took the
- 54:13Speaker 8: job is that I think he's capable of being a
- 54:16Speaker 8: really good player, and he has not disappointed so far
- 54:18Speaker 8: in the offseason program. He's fantastic, does everything you ask
- 54:22Speaker 8: the way you want it, And I'm excited to see
- 54:25Speaker 8: what we have. I just I'll leave it at that.
- 54:27Speaker 8: I think we can. I think we can put together
- 54:30Speaker 8: a competitive football team.
- 54:31Speaker 1: What do you see in Will Levis? Because again, we
- 54:34Speaker 1: just rattled off three guys that you've been around, Paid Manning,
- 54:36Speaker 1: Matt Stafford, Joe Burrow. What do you see similarly with
- 54:40Speaker 1: with Will?
- 54:42Speaker 8: The drive? He's got the drive. He wants to be
- 54:44Speaker 8: a great player. He wants to do whatever it takes
- 54:47Speaker 8: to be a great player. I think one of the
- 54:49Speaker 8: cool things about watching Will get to play last year
- 54:52Speaker 8: and in some pretty adverse circumstances is you saw his toughness.
- 54:56Speaker 8: You know, I think that's kind of a common theme
- 54:58Speaker 8: with these guys, is they all have this kind of
- 55:00Speaker 8: innate toughness that that guy's rally around. You know, when
- 55:02Speaker 8: you see when you see a quarterback out there, you know,
- 55:05Speaker 8: diving for a first down or or taking a shot
- 55:08Speaker 8: and making a great throws. He's taking one on the chin.
- 55:11Speaker 8: That's the kind of guy you want to play for,
- 55:12Speaker 8: right Like you go, you go, yeah, let's I can
- 55:14Speaker 8: do this. That guy can This guy can do enough
- 55:17Speaker 8: for me to play hard with. And you saw all
- 55:19Speaker 8: those things on tape last year, and he saw his
- 55:21Speaker 8: physical talent. Obviously, I don't want him jumping and diving
- 55:25Speaker 8: and flipping around for first downs because let's not do that.
- 55:28Speaker 8: Let's not do that. Let's see that's that's that's the
- 55:31Speaker 8: that's the brand. I mean, you need that thing to work.
- 55:33Speaker 8: So we'll try to lessen some of that. But I
- 55:36Speaker 8: think he's proven uh his toughness to the to the
- 55:39Speaker 8: guys and the team and the people in the NFL
- 55:40Speaker 8: look at him and go, all right, this guy he's
- 55:43Speaker 8: got a chance. Now let's give him as much talent
- 55:45Speaker 8: around him as possible and and and see if we
- 55:47Speaker 8: can help him with a system offensively to have some success.
- 55:50Speaker 8: And he's got all the traits that you look for though,
- 55:52Speaker 8: as far as the drive and determination to be great Uh,
- 55:56Speaker 8: is there And that's that's exciting.
- 55:58Speaker 2: With the with Ran, like you walk into the building
- 56:01Speaker 2: and for the nine years I was with the Titans,
- 56:03Speaker 2: like day one and two of free agency, nothing ever
- 56:05Speaker 2: happened with the Titians. We kind of sit back, let
- 56:07Speaker 2: the first wave go, and you kind of pick pieces
- 56:09Speaker 2: up in the middle market. You guys came and started
- 56:12Speaker 2: just cleaning house immediately do you and Ran? How clear
- 56:17Speaker 2: is your guys' conversation of where you want the direction
- 56:19Speaker 2: to go? Like, how that's just on the same page?
- 56:21Speaker 4: Clear?
- 56:22Speaker 8: Him and I hit it off in the interview process,
- 56:25Speaker 8: and he was a guy that that I just connected
- 56:28Speaker 8: with immediately. You know, you meet people and you just
- 56:30Speaker 8: there's just something about the connection. You're like, this is
- 56:32Speaker 8: this is the kind of person I want to go
- 56:33Speaker 8: to work with every day. And it has been that
- 56:37Speaker 8: way from the minute we stepped on our first Zoom
- 56:39Speaker 8: interview through today. It's been everything I thought it would
- 56:43Speaker 8: be in terms of our working relationship and our vision
- 56:46Speaker 8: and how we want to execute the vision and what
- 56:47Speaker 8: it's going to take to get the team competitive to
- 56:50Speaker 8: where we feel like we can contend for the division
- 56:52Speaker 8: and for the playoffs and ultimately for a Super Bowl
- 56:54Speaker 8: someday that we've been on the same page with everything
- 56:57Speaker 8: and it's been really really fun, Like it's not like
- 57:00Speaker 8: that everywhere, as you guys know, you don't always get
- 57:02Speaker 8: that connection, and it's, uh, it's been incredible, and he's
- 57:05Speaker 8: got a great feel for what football is supposed to
- 57:07Speaker 8: look like we see it the same way. And man,
- 57:11Speaker 8: when you go into a free agency period and you're
- 57:13Speaker 8: in lockstep and with Chad Brinker as well, where you're like,
- 57:16Speaker 8: this is the direction we're heading, you feel really good
- 57:19Speaker 8: about it. And then the coolest part about it is
- 57:22Speaker 8: you get to a certain point in free agency where
- 57:23Speaker 8: things don't always you know, we didn't get everybody we
- 57:26Speaker 8: initially thought we were going to get, and so a
- 57:28Speaker 8: guy goes here and a guy goes there, and and
- 57:30Speaker 8: now you look around, Well, the difference in the good
- 57:33Speaker 8: teams in free agency is how fast do you pivot?
- 57:35Speaker 8: And so we lose two or three guys, and all
- 57:37Speaker 8: of a sudden we look up and we're like, we
- 57:38Speaker 8: should probably check in on Calvin Ridley and see where
- 57:40Speaker 8: that's at. You know, we got some we got money
- 57:43Speaker 8: we didn't think we're going to have. We lost a
- 57:45Speaker 8: guy or two that we thought we were going to
- 57:46Speaker 8: get back and we didn't. So let's let's check in,
- 57:49Speaker 8: let's see where it's at. And so then that process
- 57:51Speaker 8: started and kind of swooped in the middle of the
- 57:53Speaker 8: night and stole Calvin out of there. And that was
- 57:55Speaker 8: because you just you gotta fluid. You're able to pivot.
- 57:58Speaker 8: You have a plan in place, and when the plan
- 58:01Speaker 8: doesn't go exactly the same, you know where the next
- 58:03Speaker 8: spot is. And I thought Ram was masterful in the
- 58:05Speaker 8: free agency.
- 58:06Speaker 1: Process with like your philosophies in the way you want
- 58:10Speaker 1: to kind of cultivate your first job being a head coach,
- 58:12Speaker 1: like what you inherited with the Titans, from the familiar
- 58:15Speaker 1: faces who are still here. What are some of the
- 58:17Speaker 1: directions and vision you wanted to kind of take this
- 58:19Speaker 1: team internally in the building. Yeah, from what you'd understood
- 58:22Speaker 1: most previously.
- 58:23Speaker 8: Yeah. Well, I think the thing about the Titans, I
- 58:26Speaker 8: think really for the history of the of the organization
- 58:28Speaker 8: in Nashville, is that it's always been a tough ass team.
- 58:31Speaker 8: You know, regardless of the players that have been on
- 58:34Speaker 8: the team, there's just a there's been a tradition of
- 58:36Speaker 8: this toughness every time we ever played Tennessee, it was
- 58:40Speaker 8: like buckle up, boys, like you're gonna get You're gonna
- 58:43Speaker 8: get every it's gonna be everything you got, everything they got,
- 58:47Speaker 8: and it's going to come down to the end. And
- 58:48Speaker 8: that's how I've always viewed the Titans every time we've
- 58:52Speaker 8: ever played them, for the years of been in the NFL,
- 58:53Speaker 8: It's just there's always been good players here. It's always
- 58:56Speaker 8: been tough teams, they've always been well coached. And that
- 59:00Speaker 8: part is the part you want to stay. That's sort
- 59:02Speaker 8: of like an ethos of the organization. You want that
- 59:04Speaker 8: to be a part of who they always are, regardless
- 59:07Speaker 8: of who's in charge. And the other part that I
- 59:09Speaker 8: believe in is that you want guys that love being
- 59:12Speaker 8: around each other, that love being in the building together,
- 59:15Speaker 8: and you want an environment that they love working with
- 59:18Speaker 8: their coaches too. And so there's a there's a feeling
- 59:22Speaker 8: that you want when you when you wake up in
- 59:24Speaker 8: the morning and you got to go to work, and
- 59:27Speaker 8: there's it's one of two ways. Either you're like, fuck, man,
- 59:31Speaker 8: I want to go to work today. Oh, I've been
- 59:33Speaker 8: there a couple of days, yeah, or it's like like
- 59:36Speaker 8: hell yeah, I can't wait to get to work, and
- 59:38Speaker 8: that's the what I what I'm going for is that
- 59:41Speaker 8: second option where guys wake up and can't wait to
- 59:43Speaker 8: be in the building because they love what they're doing
- 59:45Speaker 8: and who they're doing it with, and there's a connection
- 59:48Speaker 8: amongst the people that are doing it with. I think
- 59:50Speaker 8: that's what unique about where we are in Tennessee now
- 59:52Speaker 8: with Rand and myself is that it's a very open
- 59:56Speaker 8: building and there's there's a lot of back and forth.
- 59:59Speaker 8: Like you see Ram walking into hallways and he's out
- 1:00:01Speaker 8: of practice and he's dapping guys up and he's talking
- 1:00:03Speaker 8: to him in the lunch room and I'm around and
- 1:00:05Speaker 8: I'm visible, and there's our personalities play off each other.
- 1:00:09Speaker 8: And I think we hired a coaching staff that's the
- 1:00:11Speaker 8: same way. And I hope the players feel that when
- 1:00:14Speaker 8: they're in the building. I think if you ask most
- 1:00:15Speaker 8: of them, they would feel, at least to start, that's
- 1:00:17Speaker 8: how it feels. But I want guys that love coming
- 1:00:20Speaker 8: to work and playing football together. Because everybody's got money,
- 1:00:23Speaker 8: everybody's got talent, and I think that's what separates teams
- 1:00:26Speaker 8: is what kind of locker room do you have and
- 1:00:28Speaker 8: what kind of people are in the building, and I
- 1:00:29Speaker 8: think that's what matters the most.

- 1:01:50Speaker 2: this episode, but before you do, do me a favorite.
- 1:01:52Speaker 2: Subscribe unsubscribed, resubscribe. Now let's get back to the episode. Well,
- 1:01:55Speaker 2: when we went to the franch of the facility, it
- 1:01:58Speaker 2: seemed like everybody was way more. Those guys were coming
- 1:02:00Speaker 2: up to us saying, hey, like it's different, like things is,
- 1:02:03Speaker 2: the energy is different, and there's a higher vibe here
- 1:02:05Speaker 2: That doesn't take away from anything from John and Vrave,
- 1:02:07Speaker 2: like they there was a Patriots Way type of vibe
- 1:02:09Speaker 2: where buttles are tight when you go into a team
- 1:02:11Speaker 2: meeting and you know you can get exposed if you
- 1:02:13Speaker 2: have a bad play at practice. So it was like
- 1:02:15Speaker 2: everyone's got to be on their shit to know that
- 1:02:18Speaker 2: on Sunday we're gonna go win. Like, how long once
- 1:02:20Speaker 2: you got in the building and got with the guys,
- 1:02:22Speaker 2: did you see the transition of them like all right,
- 1:02:24Speaker 2: letting their shoulders down, letting their guard down a little bit.
- 1:02:27Speaker 2: I'm being like, Okay, we can we can mix it
- 1:02:29Speaker 2: up a little bit with the coach. Yeah, it's headball
- 1:02:30Speaker 2: coach in a GM. That's that's a tough two guys
- 1:02:33Speaker 2: to mix it up with and feel comfortable unless you're
- 1:02:35Speaker 2: like that that's been in the game for a long time.
- 1:02:37Speaker 8: And I still feel like guys get nervous sometimes around
- 1:02:40Speaker 8: me and I don't. It's new for me being in
- 1:02:42Speaker 8: the role too. I realized how.
- 1:02:44Speaker 1: Much your position like a cool guy.
- 1:02:47Speaker 8: I'm learning more about the weight of my words and
- 1:02:50Speaker 8: my interactions and how much it matters to guys when
- 1:02:52Speaker 8: maybe you don't think twice about it, but it might
- 1:02:54Speaker 8: be the only time you interact with the head coach
- 1:02:56Speaker 8: the for a week, and like that hit that sticks
- 1:02:58Speaker 8: with guys. I remember Eve as a play how that
- 1:03:00Speaker 8: would stick with me? And I'm much more mindful of
- 1:03:03Speaker 8: that now than maybe I ever was, And even as
- 1:03:05Speaker 8: the days go by, it stands out sometimes. But I
- 1:03:09Speaker 8: think that there's a lot of ways to win in
- 1:03:12Speaker 8: the NFL. There's not one set way that you have
- 1:03:14Speaker 8: to take, and I think as long as you're kind
- 1:03:16Speaker 8: of authentic to what you believe in, you can you
- 1:03:19Speaker 8: can build the program in the image that you think
- 1:03:21Speaker 8: is the right way. And I just believe that there's
- 1:03:25Speaker 8: a when you come to work and there's a there's
- 1:03:27Speaker 8: a looseness and and and and a joy in the process.
- 1:03:31Speaker 4: Uh.
- 1:03:31Speaker 8: It makes a really hard profession a little less hard.
- 1:03:34Speaker 8: And I think when you get into the the part
- 1:03:37Speaker 8: that when it is really hard, when you're in December
- 1:03:40Speaker 8: and it's tough, and you're banged up and it hurts
- 1:03:42Speaker 8: uh to go practice every day, there's something other than
- 1:03:46Speaker 8: the money motivating you to go out there and play
- 1:03:49Speaker 8: with the boys, right, I mean that's kind of what
- 1:03:50Speaker 8: that's what you want. And yeah, I think an environment
- 1:03:53Speaker 8: that's got some joy to it and some fun and
- 1:03:55Speaker 8: some energy, I think takes a little bit of the
- 1:03:58Speaker 8: edge off of how hard it can be. And it
- 1:04:00Speaker 8: can be hard, you know. It's even when everything's great,
- 1:04:03Speaker 8: even when everything works well, there's always days where it's hard.
- 1:04:06Speaker 8: And I think that if you have a locker room
- 1:04:09Speaker 8: in a building that's conducive to a little bit of
- 1:04:11Speaker 8: fun and excitement and offended. I mean, I am who
- 1:04:15Speaker 8: I am, I'm gonna I don't want to try to
- 1:04:16Speaker 8: be anybody else. And that's just always been my personality.
- 1:04:19Speaker 8: And I think that hopefully that that that shows up
- 1:04:22Speaker 8: in what our team looks like.
- 1:04:23Speaker 1: Yeah, you ain't lying. I mean the playing football every
- 1:04:26Speaker 1: day is it's a grinder, especially like you're saying later
- 1:04:29Speaker 1: in the year, it gets dark a little earlier.
- 1:04:30Speaker 2: You're feeling on your nick last week of October is
- 1:04:33Speaker 2: like the worst the walk through today or have to
- 1:04:36Speaker 2: lace some up.
- 1:04:37Speaker 1: And you're right too, Like jokes you might say as
- 1:04:40Speaker 1: a position coach or a coordinator might hit a little
- 1:04:43Speaker 1: differently to an athlete. But if you're saying a joke
- 1:04:46Speaker 1: as a head coach, like the athlete could be driving
- 1:04:47Speaker 1: home like fuck does he think? I'm just like you're
- 1:04:50Speaker 1: in your own head, But if he gives you something positive.
- 1:04:53Speaker 1: Can remember Shanahan one time he came up all interception machine.
- 1:04:56Speaker 1: This is like my rookie year. I had had two
- 1:04:58Speaker 1: interceptions in a practice. I just remember just riding on
- 1:05:01Speaker 1: Cloud nine thinking, like, you know, the head ball coach
- 1:05:04Speaker 1: noticed me, you know. Yeah, so it's got to be
- 1:05:07Speaker 1: like interesting knowing that your words do carry like a
- 1:05:10Speaker 1: different weight to that part is everybody.
- 1:05:12Speaker 8: Yeah, if I walked in one day, I walked into
- 1:05:17Speaker 8: talked to one of the assistant coaches like I normally
- 1:05:20Speaker 8: would like when I was a coordinator and I'm kind
- 1:05:22Speaker 8: of busting balls, but I kind of see like the
- 1:05:24Speaker 8: reaction on his face was like, oh, what like to
- 1:05:29Speaker 8: do something wrong, I'm buying in trouble, And I was like, Oh,
- 1:05:31Speaker 8: I probably shouldn't. I probably need to probably need to
- 1:05:34Speaker 8: tone that one down, and yeah, make it, make it
- 1:05:36Speaker 8: not feel.
- 1:05:36Speaker 2: So tone it down or tell whoever that is, don't
- 1:05:39Speaker 2: be so soft. Yeah, we're having a good time. It's
- 1:05:41Speaker 2: gonna be all right.
- 1:05:42Speaker 1: Jay would be talking about me making plays in space.
- 1:05:44Speaker 1: I would literally just beg man, I know the front
- 1:05:46Speaker 1: office though, the whole coaching stuff must think I just
- 1:05:48Speaker 1: can't tackle in space.
- 1:05:49Speaker 2: But in your head about everything, he just said that joke, Like,
- 1:05:54Speaker 2: I know, I don't. I don't think people understand how
- 1:05:56Speaker 2: much mental warfare goes on between players and coaches. No,
- 1:05:59Speaker 2: I don't know if you all try to do mental warfare.
- 1:06:01Speaker 8: But I just don't. I'd rather not. I prefer not
- 1:06:03Speaker 8: to do that.
- 1:06:04Speaker 2: Which is so difficult though, because you're right, like the
- 1:06:07Speaker 2: words of a head coach, when you say anything like
- 1:06:10Speaker 2: a noline coaches due, you could easily write that off
- 1:06:12Speaker 2: at whatever the head coaches it to you. You're calling
- 1:06:15Speaker 2: your girlfriend, your wife, it's two family members, Like he
- 1:06:18Speaker 2: said this, Like what do you think good, bad or ugly?
- 1:06:20Speaker 2: You're doing whatever you can.
- 1:06:21Speaker 1: Tire off season, you're working on that one thing that
- 1:06:23Speaker 1: was kind of said, right and rain forever.
- 1:06:27Speaker 8: And then as a as as a head coach, it
- 1:06:28Speaker 8: might even he might not even have thought twice about it,
- 1:06:32Speaker 8: might have just been like an in passing comment. Yeah,
- 1:06:35Speaker 8: and all of a sudden, you're just like you just
- 1:06:37Speaker 8: all in your head about whatever it was that was said,
- 1:06:39Speaker 8: and the head coach might have forgot even said it.
- 1:06:42Speaker 2: Yeah, you talk about having fun. What's your stance on
- 1:06:44Speaker 2: rookie shows?
- 1:06:45Speaker 8: You love it about them, You're about them, about them
- 1:06:49Speaker 8: pro rookie show, however, yeah is you're twenty twenty fours
- 1:06:54Speaker 8: A but the show there's there's have not been the
- 1:06:59Speaker 8: recentokie shows that I've been around, subpar. Need the rookies
- 1:07:05Speaker 8: need a little help from some guys out there in
- 1:07:08Speaker 8: the world that know what a rookie show is supposed
- 1:07:10Speaker 8: to look like. And uh, I've just not been not
- 1:07:13Speaker 8: been impressed with some of the things. They're just not funny. Yeah,
- 1:07:18Speaker 8: and there's nothing worse than going Like rookies ship, you're
- 1:07:20Speaker 8: amped up, like I can't wait to see who they
- 1:07:22Speaker 8: who do they go after? Yeah, it's like they're kind
- 1:07:24Speaker 8: of they get scared. You can't be scared. You should
- 1:07:26Speaker 8: know as good as anybody.
- 1:07:27Speaker 1: Yeah, I was gonna say, you let me sit around
- 1:07:29Speaker 1: training camp for a couple of weeks.
- 1:07:30Speaker 8: You'll you'll have a few down impressions.
- 1:07:33Speaker 1: Yeah, get some manurisms of yours and I'll just go
- 1:07:35Speaker 1: after you.
- 1:07:36Speaker 2: I'll just go Yeah, going after the head ball coach
- 1:07:38Speaker 2: is the best thing to do as a rookie by far,
- 1:07:40Speaker 2: but it's also the scariest thing to do as a rookie.
- 1:07:42Speaker 8: Also true, you.
- 1:07:43Speaker 2: Gotta find that sweet balance being good graces with you,
- 1:07:46Speaker 2: but also find all the possibly can.
- 1:07:49Speaker 8: But if, if you can get a good rookie show
- 1:07:51Speaker 8: is maybe one of the better, one of the finer
- 1:07:53Speaker 8: things in life that you set the.
- 1:07:54Speaker 1: Tone training camp.
- 1:07:57Speaker 2: Oh yeah, that's at the ending though, like you're like,
- 1:08:00Speaker 2: everyone's kind of excited to get out of there. This
- 1:08:02Speaker 2: is going to set the tone for the first game
- 1:08:04Speaker 2: of the season. Yeah, all together for the last time
- 1:08:06Speaker 2: before cuts. What's we're going to.
- 1:08:07Speaker 1: Get If any rookies are watching this study Coach Callahan
- 1:08:11Speaker 1: and go after him during the Rookie Show.
- 1:08:13Speaker 2: Have to have to have to like go too hard,
- 1:08:15Speaker 2: like make it the roast of Tom Brady, go to
- 1:08:19Speaker 2: the family.
- 1:08:21Speaker 8: Just just lay it all out there and just just
- 1:08:23Speaker 8: hope the reaction is good.
- 1:08:24Speaker 2: Yeah, go ahead.
- 1:08:26Speaker 1: I was just gonna say, who are, in your opinion,
- 1:08:28Speaker 1: the funnier guys on the team.
- 1:08:30Speaker 8: I'm still getting to know. I'm getting to know more personalities.
- 1:08:33Speaker 8: Is that as the days go by? It sure seems
- 1:08:36Speaker 8: like arden Key's got enough personality for everybody, which is great.
- 1:08:40Speaker 8: I love it. I enjoy the personality part, Like I
- 1:08:43Speaker 8: love guys that got something to them and make it
- 1:08:45Speaker 8: fun like that's that's awesome. I love when guys feel
- 1:08:48Speaker 8: like they can beat themselves. Arden's probably the one that
- 1:08:51Speaker 8: stands out the most. Taj Spears has got a good's
- 1:08:56Speaker 8: got a good kind of a He's quiet, but he's
- 1:08:57Speaker 8: got a little personality that pops up every now on again.
- 1:09:03Speaker 8: Still trying to figure out which offensive lineman's got it.
- 1:09:06Speaker 8: You know, they're so they're there. Every day is like
- 1:09:08Speaker 8: a new day for them. Right now with with Coach Bi,
- 1:09:11Speaker 8: I don't know if personality but uh, there's some guys
- 1:09:15Speaker 8: I think that are that are candidates for it, but
- 1:09:17Speaker 8: generally tends to be the defensive guys that have the
- 1:09:19Speaker 8: most personality and then they're at least afraid to show it.
- 1:09:23Speaker 8: So I think that there might be a few of
- 1:09:25Speaker 8: those guys. But I'm hoping that some of these rookies
- 1:09:27Speaker 8: come with something good in August.
- 1:09:29Speaker 2: I mean, that's what they got to be the most
- 1:09:30Speaker 2: focused on, Like playbook comes second to the Rookie Show.
- 1:09:33Speaker 2: To make sure that you have that rookies entertainer to
- 1:09:35Speaker 2: make the ball club entertainment. Yeah, entertainment.
- 1:09:37Speaker 8: We're an entertainment business exactly.
- 1:09:40Speaker 2: With being the head coach for the first time and
- 1:09:43Speaker 2: taking the first team meeting, addressing the team, what are
- 1:09:46Speaker 2: the nerves like, because every head coach I've ever.
- 1:09:49Speaker 8: Had, it's a lot. There's there's some nerves in there,
- 1:09:51Speaker 8: for sure, I bet, because you want to make you
- 1:09:54Speaker 8: want to make a good impression where and again, we've
- 1:09:56Speaker 8: had like twelve team meetings since the first one. So
- 1:09:59Speaker 8: like the the novelty does wear off, like after you
- 1:10:02Speaker 8: get through the first one, but that first one you
- 1:10:03Speaker 8: spend a ton of time thinking about and you just
- 1:10:06Speaker 8: want to make sure that when you come in there
- 1:10:07Speaker 8: that the guys look at you and go, yeah, I
- 1:10:10Speaker 8: like this guy. I'm I'm willing to listen as you
- 1:10:13Speaker 8: guys know. You can come in here sometimes and maybe
- 1:10:15Speaker 8: the first one rubs you the wrong way and you're
- 1:10:17Speaker 8: kind of like, I don't know about this cat, you know,
- 1:10:19Speaker 8: like yeah, yeah, And so that's you just want to
- 1:10:22Speaker 8: make an impression good enough to where you've bought everyone's
- 1:10:24Speaker 8: attention for another week, you know, right, and hopefully they can.
- 1:10:27Speaker 1: See you make sure has the same facial expression as
- 1:10:30Speaker 1: the first time.
- 1:10:30Speaker 8: You know, you're not losing the crowd, right, And I
- 1:10:33Speaker 8: try to be my team meeting, they try to be
- 1:10:35Speaker 8: to the point. You know, I don't.
- 1:10:36Speaker 1: I don't.
- 1:10:37Speaker 8: I'm not a preacher, you know.
- 1:10:38Speaker 1: I don't.
- 1:10:39Speaker 8: I don't need to. But I do have messaging that
- 1:10:40Speaker 8: I want to get across, and so I spend a
- 1:10:42Speaker 8: lot of time thinking about the messaging and what I'm
- 1:10:45Speaker 8: going to say, and hopefully that in a in a
- 1:10:47Speaker 8: very short eight to ten minutes, I can convey whatever
- 1:10:50Speaker 8: that is for the day. And I only have one
- 1:10:52Speaker 8: a week, so I don't overdo it. Yeah, nobody wants
- 1:10:55Speaker 8: nobody wants to hear me talk that much. I know that.
- 1:10:57Speaker 2: And the fall, you only have one a week in
- 1:10:59Speaker 2: the fall.
- 1:10:59Speaker 8: In the seasons arts, it'll be a Wednesday and a
- 1:11:01Speaker 8: Friday Wednesday, or Friday Wednesday and Thursday to the rest
- 1:11:03Speaker 8: of the squad. Yeah, Thursdays is the own day. And
- 1:11:06Speaker 8: then you have something night before, which can be sometimes
- 1:11:09Speaker 8: the shortest two minutes, or you may go a little
- 1:11:12Speaker 8: longer if it's a depending on the mood of the
- 1:11:15Speaker 8: team and the and the game you're getting ready to play.
- 1:11:16Speaker 8: But try to try to limit the amount of times
- 1:11:19Speaker 8: I have to go preach in front of everybody.
- 1:11:21Speaker 1: What kind of coach are you? Night before a game, dude?
- 1:11:23Speaker 2: I was just thinking, like, are.
- 1:11:25Speaker 1: We watching a movie scene?
- 1:11:26Speaker 8: I got that.
- 1:11:27Speaker 1: I love something like what what's your go tos bro?
- 1:11:31Speaker 8: I very much try to keep like the pulse of
- 1:11:34Speaker 8: like what we might which might need for that week.
- 1:11:36Speaker 8: You know. I did something kind of similar with A
- 1:11:39Speaker 8: in Cincinnati on Saturday mornings. I would do this tie
- 1:11:41Speaker 8: in of the game plan and I would mix in
- 1:11:44Speaker 8: whatever messaging I thought was, you know, might hit home.
- 1:11:48Speaker 1: Give an example like this messaging, Yeah, this movie scene?
- 1:11:53Speaker 8: If it's no I used actually used quite a bit
- 1:11:56Speaker 8: of The Man the Arena documentary one year. I kind
- 1:11:59Speaker 8: of took pieces of it over the course of the season,
- 1:12:02Speaker 8: and then like every other week I might have something
- 1:12:04Speaker 8: from that that because there was just so many good
- 1:12:06Speaker 8: things from that documentary. I thought about, like what a
- 1:12:09Speaker 8: championship team would feel like, and so I try to
- 1:12:13Speaker 8: use as many mediums as I can to help convey
- 1:12:17Speaker 8: whatever message I'd be trying to convey. And I even
- 1:12:19Speaker 8: do that now. I had one even for a rookie meeting.
- 1:12:22Speaker 8: There's this clip on the internet with there's a ball
- 1:12:24Speaker 8: boy a handful of years ago one of the soccer teams.
- 1:12:26Speaker 8: I think it might have been like Tottenham, where this
- 1:12:28Speaker 8: ball boy is like super dialed into his job and
- 1:12:31Speaker 8: he gets the ball. It's on a throwing but the
- 1:12:34Speaker 8: ball comes out of bounds and he has one in
- 1:12:35Speaker 8: his hands and he's just his job is to get
- 1:12:37Speaker 8: it to that guy as quick as possible. Well, he
- 1:12:39Speaker 8: jumps out of his seat, tosses the ball to the guy.
- 1:12:41Speaker 8: They throw it in on like a fast break, and
- 1:12:43Speaker 8: they score because they catch team in transition because ball
- 1:12:46Speaker 8: boys like on top of his shit. Yeah, you probably
- 1:12:49Speaker 8: say it was viral and it was viral, but it's
- 1:12:52Speaker 8: it's it's out there. And I showed it to the
- 1:12:54Speaker 8: rookies and I was like, this is like talk about
- 1:12:57Speaker 8: finding a role and doing it well. Like here's just
- 1:12:59Speaker 8: ten year old ball boy or thirteen year old bah
- 1:13:01Speaker 8: boy that knows that if I do my job really well,
- 1:13:03Speaker 8: it's gonna help us. And yeah, that's it.
- 1:13:06Speaker 2: Don't They bring them to the locker room after this. Yeah,
- 1:13:08Speaker 2: they give him like a jersey.
- 1:13:10Speaker 8: Yeah, and so things like things like that. It's wild.
- 1:13:13Speaker 8: It was, I mean, it's.
- 1:13:15Speaker 1: You know.
- 1:13:15Speaker 8: And then and then manager goes over like look at
- 1:13:17Speaker 8: how fast and then transitioned right, balls in his hand,
- 1:13:20Speaker 8: he's running, they're on sides and then he ends up
- 1:13:23Speaker 8: with a hitting a man transition for a score, and
- 1:13:26Speaker 8: like I think it was a huge game too. So
- 1:13:27Speaker 8: then the manager's tapping them up and like things like that,
- 1:13:31Speaker 8: if I can anything I can find, I use quotes
- 1:13:34Speaker 8: some guys in the NBA. I've used Steph Curry, anything
- 1:13:37Speaker 8: that reinforces the message. Like I told, I showed the
- 1:13:39Speaker 8: rookies that, and it was like, look, man, find whatever
- 1:13:42Speaker 8: your role is, wherever they whatever's asked of you, like
- 1:13:45Speaker 8: make it the most important thing. And if you have
- 1:13:47Speaker 8: a chance to make a play, then you make the play.
- 1:13:49Speaker 8: That's how you get recognized. And so it's stuff like that.
- 1:13:53Speaker 8: I can fire and brimstone it pretty good when I
- 1:13:55Speaker 8: want to, but I try to save those in my
- 1:13:56Speaker 8: back pocket form yeah, for when you really they need it.
- 1:14:00Speaker 2: When you talk about playing the Tennessee Titans held like
- 1:14:03Speaker 2: it was effort, toughness and they are very well coached. Yes,
- 1:14:06Speaker 2: what are the core values you're seeking to bring in
- 1:14:09Speaker 2: with the Tennessee.
- 1:14:09Speaker 8: Titans with this new wave, just in terms of like
- 1:14:12Speaker 8: what what I want our team to look.
- 1:14:13Speaker 2: For by the things you're going to preach, Like usually
- 1:14:15Speaker 2: a lot of times, like coaches have like these are
- 1:14:16Speaker 2: three things that we are going to be built on
- 1:14:18Speaker 2: as our foundation as a team, Like as you being
- 1:14:21Speaker 2: the head coach of Tesse Titans, Like what are those
- 1:14:22Speaker 2: three pillars.
- 1:14:23Speaker 8: Or yeah, there's there's there's a little bit of nuance
- 1:14:26Speaker 8: to it, but the main one is we have three
- 1:14:28Speaker 8: c's and it's character, communication, and connected team And like
- 1:14:32Speaker 8: those are the three things that I think matter the
- 1:14:35Speaker 8: most is that the character guys. Are they coachable, are
- 1:14:37Speaker 8: they dependable? Are they positive? You know what I mean?
- 1:14:41Speaker 8: Is there are those the guys you want to be
- 1:14:42Speaker 8: around as a teammate.
- 1:14:44Speaker 1: Uh.
- 1:14:44Speaker 8: And then when you talk about the communication part, like
- 1:14:48Speaker 8: the best teams in the league are great communicators, verbal, visual,
- 1:14:51Speaker 8: you know, especially up front. I use that example all
- 1:14:54Speaker 8: the time. It's like, you got to pick up blitz
- 1:14:56Speaker 8: Is on third down to win in the NFL, and
- 1:14:57Speaker 8: you got to be on the same page. And sometimes
- 1:14:59Speaker 8: it's allowed to ship on the road and you're on
- 1:15:00Speaker 8: a silent count, and how do you how do we
- 1:15:02Speaker 8: get to calls communicate? How great are we communicating? It
- 1:15:06Speaker 8: also falls into the off the field part too, like
- 1:15:08Speaker 8: when something's going on, make sure we're community. If you're
- 1:15:10Speaker 8: going to be late to a coach on me late
- 1:15:12Speaker 8: to the team meeting and you called me at seven thirty,
- 1:15:15Speaker 8: that's good communication. If the meeting's at eight, I got
- 1:15:17Speaker 8: an issue. I need help taking care of it, right,
- 1:15:19Speaker 8: we can work through that. If you tell me eight
- 1:15:21Speaker 8: oh five after you show up to shoe at a
- 1:15:22Speaker 8: car issue, that's bad communication.
- 1:15:24Speaker 2: That's a fine.
- 1:15:25Speaker 8: That's a fine. Yeah, So that's what we're looking not
- 1:15:27Speaker 8: to do that. So those those three season, the last
- 1:15:30Speaker 8: one I think I've kind of touched on is that
- 1:15:32Speaker 8: being a connected team and being a part of something
- 1:15:35Speaker 8: that's that's bigger than yourself. Like, again, everybody's got money,
- 1:15:38Speaker 8: everybody's got players, there's talent in the league. Every game
- 1:15:41Speaker 8: comes down to one possession most of the time. And
- 1:15:43Speaker 8: what's the separator And to me, it's the teams that
- 1:15:45Speaker 8: when you look at them, you feel it when they play,
- 1:15:48Speaker 8: You're like, man, those dudes are playing for each other,
- 1:15:50Speaker 8: like you feel it. And you guys have been on
- 1:15:52Speaker 8: those teams, you played against those teams, You're like like, damn,
- 1:15:55Speaker 8: these guys are on top of it and you feel
- 1:15:56Speaker 8: it from their sideline, you feel it from the energy
- 1:15:58Speaker 8: when they make a play like that's those are the
- 1:16:00Speaker 8: things that you want to see. And I think the
- 1:16:03Speaker 8: football parts are perrequisite, like you got to be able
- 1:16:05Speaker 8: to be detailed and have discipline. That stuff is that's
- 1:16:08Speaker 8: like not negotiable and that's expected. These are those things.
- 1:16:12Speaker 8: The character, the communication and being a connected team are
- 1:16:15Speaker 8: things that I think make the difference when all that
- 1:16:17Speaker 8: other stuff is equal.
- 1:16:18Speaker 1: That's awesome. I love that we talked about, uh the
- 1:16:21Speaker 1: gun slingers with Stafford, Manning, Levis and Burrow, But I
- 1:16:27Speaker 1: don't want to go. I don't want to not bring
- 1:16:30Speaker 1: up Browning last year getting thrown into the fire in
- 1:16:33Speaker 1: a very high pressure situation. Yeah, talk about him a
- 1:16:37Speaker 1: little bit, because I feel like you it's like when
- 1:16:38Speaker 1: that happened, it's like, well the Bengals, they're out of it. Yeah,
- 1:16:41Speaker 1: but you guys, you know, obviously you didn't didn't win
- 1:16:45Speaker 1: the Super Bowl or anything. Yeah, there was like zero pain.
- 1:16:47Speaker 8: We were in it.
- 1:16:48Speaker 1: Yeah, you guys were in it right there until the end. Like,
- 1:16:50Speaker 1: talk about talk about Browning a little bit.
- 1:16:52Speaker 8: Man, what a what a what a story? Really? I mean,
- 1:16:55Speaker 8: he's we we we stole him off the practice squad
- 1:16:58Speaker 8: before we played Minnesota in twenty twenty one, and we
- 1:17:02Speaker 8: brought him in too, ultimately sort of flush him for information.
- 1:17:06Speaker 8: You know, they cut the quarterback loose.
- 1:17:08Speaker 2: We bring them the water board him, get him out
- 1:17:11Speaker 2: of there.
- 1:17:13Speaker 8: When he came in and we're like, oh, this this guy,
- 1:17:15Speaker 8: I think is you know, we like this tape. And
- 1:17:17Speaker 8: obviously we didn't bring him in because just for that
- 1:17:19Speaker 8: we thought he was a good player. But but that's
- 1:17:22Speaker 8: just how the league works. You cut guys loose. And
- 1:17:23Speaker 8: we were playing in Week one, so we signed him
- 1:17:25Speaker 8: and he comes in. He starts like like, Wow, this
- 1:17:28Speaker 8: guy's really smart. And then he's a little bit undersized,
- 1:17:32Speaker 8: and he doesn't look he's not like a outwardly great
- 1:17:34Speaker 8: looking athlete, and you're like, all right, is this can
- 1:17:37Speaker 8: this guy play at all? And we weren't sure. And
- 1:17:39Speaker 8: he starts practicing and you're like, does some things that
- 1:17:42Speaker 8: you like, you can play on time, he can process,
- 1:17:44Speaker 8: and so we just sort of kept him and he
- 1:17:46Speaker 8: developed and he did a really nice job. And he
- 1:17:49Speaker 8: was with us for I think two and a half
- 1:17:50Speaker 8: years up to the chance to play, and he never
- 1:17:52Speaker 8: really got to play. Played a little bit of the
- 1:17:54Speaker 8: preseason and it was like, all right, well, Jake's gonna play.
- 1:17:57Speaker 8: Let's see, let's see what the guy's got. But we
- 1:18:00Speaker 8: felt really confident that he would perform well because he
- 1:18:03Speaker 8: works his ass off. He studies like crazy. And then
- 1:18:08Speaker 8: when you look back at his career, he started for
- 1:18:09Speaker 8: four years at Washington, they went to a rose boy.
- 1:18:12Speaker 8: He was a good college football player, yeah, and he's
- 1:18:15Speaker 8: got all the makeup that would make you a good
- 1:18:17Speaker 8: player in the NFL. And he went out there, man,
- 1:18:20Speaker 8: and he played awesome in a situation where it's hard
- 1:18:24Speaker 8: to play like, you know, every the franchise quarterback gets
- 1:18:27Speaker 8: hurt and like everybody's spirits are down. All of a sudden,
- 1:18:29Speaker 8: Jake Go's out there and guys were like, oh, fuck,
- 1:18:32Speaker 8: yeah we can do this, you know what I mean?
- 1:18:33Speaker 8: Like yeah, like I'm not out of Yeah, we're not
- 1:18:36Speaker 8: out of Let's go and h And he brought some
- 1:18:38Speaker 8: some life back into the team. And I give him
- 1:18:40Speaker 8: a ton of credit because he was really open about
- 1:18:42Speaker 8: what was good and what was bad, like, hey, don't
- 1:18:44Speaker 8: call that play. I don't like this play. Here's the
- 1:18:47Speaker 8: things that I need to play.
- 1:18:48Speaker 2: Like.
- 1:18:48Speaker 8: He was very vocal about what he felt like he
- 1:18:51Speaker 8: could succeed with. And that's a ton of credit goes
- 1:18:53Speaker 8: to him because you know, when you're in a position
- 1:18:55Speaker 8: as a player, like you're like, oh, if I say this,
- 1:18:57Speaker 8: they might tell me that they can't.
- 1:19:00Speaker 1: No, you won't do it.
- 1:19:00Speaker 8: You'd be afraid to say something you want to. You
- 1:19:03Speaker 8: just you just want to do what's asked of you.
- 1:19:05Speaker 8: And he goes in the first Pittsburgh game and we
- 1:19:07Speaker 8: were kind of like, are you sure you feel good
- 1:19:08Speaker 8: about this? And he's like, yeah, just call the game
- 1:19:10Speaker 8: how you called it for Joe, I'll operate I'll play well.
- 1:19:13Speaker 1: And he didn't.
- 1:19:14Speaker 8: And he came back to the next week and is like,
- 1:19:16Speaker 8: don't call this, don't call this, don't call this. Call
- 1:19:19Speaker 8: these things. Give me more peer progression, give me a
- 1:19:21Speaker 8: chance to work through a read, find me some things.
- 1:19:24Speaker 8: And he was like, all of a sudden, it was like, oh,
- 1:19:26Speaker 8: not thank you. This is what we need from you,
- 1:19:28Speaker 8: and we'll do whatever it is you need to do
- 1:19:30Speaker 8: to feel like you can play well. And so a
- 1:19:32Speaker 8: ton of credit to him for being able to say that,
- 1:19:34Speaker 8: but he went out there and showed that he's a
- 1:19:36Speaker 8: legitimate quarterback in the NFL. And when I got the job,
- 1:19:40Speaker 8: he was joking, He's like, you know, it's he was
- 1:19:43Speaker 8: kind of messed up. He's like, I've gotten more guys
- 1:19:46Speaker 8: have gotten the head jobs when I've played, and he's like,
- 1:19:51Speaker 8: do people think I'm that shitty that I play well enough?
- 1:19:54Speaker 8: And like it's now everyone's a great a great coach.
- 1:19:57Speaker 8: And I'm like, I said, that's pretty backwards. I do agree,
- 1:19:59Speaker 8: but hilarious, bro, yeah, because it was almost like, you know,
- 1:20:04Speaker 8: when you get hired and everybody we're hyping everything else.
- 1:20:06Speaker 1: It's like, I mean, Joe b went down and they
- 1:20:08Speaker 1: were still contenders with Jake Browning. Not like shitting on Jake,
- 1:20:11Speaker 1: but you're like everything can still.
- 1:20:15Speaker 8: But yeah, yeah, inadvertently you do. Yeah and uh and
- 1:20:18Speaker 8: that's so we laughed about it. But but I do
- 1:20:21Speaker 8: think he he deserves a ton of credit for how
- 1:20:23Speaker 8: well he played. He's kind of a self made I mean,
- 1:20:25Speaker 8: he's worked his he's worked his tail off to get
- 1:20:28Speaker 8: in position to when you get that opportunity to go
- 1:20:30Speaker 8: to go play well. And he's gonna play in the
- 1:20:33Speaker 8: NFL for a long time because of it. And I
- 1:20:35Speaker 8: love the dude. I think he's outstanding. He's got a
- 1:20:37Speaker 8: great personality, and I was really happy for him that
- 1:20:40Speaker 8: he had a chance to show his talents like that,
- 1:20:43Speaker 8: and and he was open and honest enough with us
- 1:20:45Speaker 8: to help us put him in a position and that's
- 1:20:47Speaker 8: ultimately our job.
- 1:20:48Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:20:49Speaker 8: Yeah, but he's a good but he is a he's
- 1:20:51Speaker 8: a good football player.
- 1:20:52Speaker 2: Yeah, play him on the Titan someday.
- 1:20:55Speaker 8: Who knows he's he's got.
- 1:20:59Speaker 1: You never be an option.
- 1:21:01Speaker 8: Thanks in your contract for like a year or two
- 1:21:03Speaker 8: two years I think for.
- 1:21:05Speaker 2: Oh you know, yeah, you're very aware. Yeah, so you're
- 1:21:08Speaker 2: saying those quarterback controversy in Cincinnati right now?
- 1:21:12Speaker 1: Is that what you do?
- 1:21:13Speaker 8: You know what? Absolutely big debates. Who's going to be
- 1:21:17Speaker 8: not sure, who's gonna be might might be Joe, who knows.
- 1:21:20Speaker 2: Who knows. It's the only time we'll tell him that. Hey, Hey,
- 1:21:23Speaker 2: you guys doing listen to an audio right now?
- 1:21:26Speaker 1: Huh?
- 1:21:26Speaker 2: Just driving to work or something like that and joining yourself.
- 1:21:29Speaker 2: Sometimes podcasts are great, but you know what makes them, this.
- 1:21:32Speaker 1: A little bit better.
- 1:21:33Speaker 2: Some nicotine man. And I know those big tobacco corporations
- 1:21:37Speaker 2: that you go into the gas station. They're super convenient,
- 1:21:39Speaker 2: easy to grab from me. If I'm looking for a nicotine,
- 1:21:42Speaker 2: that's not only to give me the sensation of feeling
- 1:21:45Speaker 2: chipper and up there and feeling great all the time.
- 1:21:47Speaker 2: I'm also looking for an opportunity to help out the
- 1:21:50Speaker 2: mom and pop shop esque and the brand I'm holding
- 1:21:52Speaker 2: in my hand. And you can't see me right now,
- 1:21:54Speaker 2: but just listen to my voices I serenate you and
- 1:21:57Speaker 2: talk about Lucy Breakers, specifically the Espress. You get up
- 1:22:01Speaker 2: in the morning, you're a blue collar cat, it's not
- 1:22:03Speaker 2: even sunny outside. You get in your Chevy Silverado and
- 1:22:07Speaker 2: you have a coffee in one hand and you take
- 1:22:09Speaker 2: two Lucy Espresso breakers and you pop those in the
- 1:22:12Speaker 2: bottom lip. Brother, you're the rest of your day is
- 1:22:16Speaker 2: going to If it was going to be a five
- 1:22:18Speaker 2: out of a ten, guess what not to six out

- 1:23:49Speaker 2: work or going home wherever you're at right now. I
- 1:23:51Speaker 2: love you, guys, see you. You talk about personalities of players,
- 1:23:56Speaker 2: and now more than ever, it seems like the landscape
- 1:23:58Speaker 2: of NFL is changing with all the ni all stuff
- 1:24:00Speaker 2: in college. Guys are coming into the league with money already.
- 1:24:03Speaker 2: Do you see that change in personalities as new guys
- 1:24:05Speaker 2: start to come in, Yeah.
- 1:24:07Speaker 8: You do. It's different. I mean is it is a
- 1:24:09Speaker 8: little bit different now, Let's not pretend like guys weren't
- 1:24:11Speaker 8: coming in the league with money before.
- 1:24:12Speaker 2: Right, Not at UCLA obviously not definitely, certainly not there.
- 1:24:16Speaker 8: Yeah, maybe not in Nebraska either, but unless Michigan, Michigan.
- 1:24:21Speaker 8: I don't know. I feel like that's I wish, Yeah.
- 1:24:23Speaker 2: I wish we had that sec treatment. I got a
- 1:24:25Speaker 2: free meal once. I bring it up all the time.
- 1:24:27Speaker 2: One time I got a free meal. One time. That
- 1:24:29Speaker 2: fired me up.
- 1:24:29Speaker 8: You get like one hundred dollars handshake somewhere.
- 1:24:31Speaker 2: No, never, I never got offered a dime, and it
- 1:24:34Speaker 2: bugs me because I would love the opportunity.
- 1:24:36Speaker 8: To take somebody's money.
- 1:24:37Speaker 2: Yes, I never hear.
- 1:24:39Speaker 1: About is they just put money like on a turnover
- 1:24:41Speaker 1: on the sideline.
- 1:24:43Speaker 2: You were about a coach.
- 1:24:44Speaker 1: A thousand, and then another coach would match it, and
- 1:24:48Speaker 1: then in college and Sue would get it. And it's like, oh,
- 1:24:50Speaker 1: all right, yeah.
- 1:24:52Speaker 2: Because you know Sue was getting paid. You know something's happening.
- 1:24:55Speaker 2: But Stafford, he I heard stories about him being at
- 1:24:57Speaker 2: Georgia and be there'd be five hundred thousand dollars in
- 1:25:00Speaker 2: his mailbox for him to stay for another year.
- 1:25:03Speaker 8: Yes, I mean, those those are all you hear those
- 1:25:06Speaker 8: stories all the time, Georgia, right, yeah, because.
- 1:25:08Speaker 2: I get him and Bradford mixed up sometimes.
- 1:25:10Speaker 1: If you had to guess, would you think that's true?
- 1:25:13Speaker 8: I mean I think, I think. I think I think
- 1:25:17Speaker 8: some of it gets there's they're probably like fishing stories,
- 1:25:21Speaker 8: like the fish gets bigger as the years ago by.
- 1:25:24Speaker 8: I think there's probably some of it. But crazy, Yeah,
- 1:25:27Speaker 8: I'm sure at all. I'm sure they're I mean, they're
- 1:25:29Speaker 8: not made up, like I'm sure those stories all happened
- 1:25:33Speaker 8: pretty regularly, I would imagine. But the kids coming in now,
- 1:25:36Speaker 8: I mean, you it's there. It's a different style, Like
- 1:25:38Speaker 8: they've already been paid, you know, so this isn't the
- 1:25:41Speaker 8: first time they've had money. And I think that that
- 1:25:43Speaker 8: part is is unique, that the money thing isn't new.
- 1:25:47Speaker 8: But what is new for them is that now they
- 1:25:49Speaker 8: can't transfer and they are under contract, and I think
- 1:25:53Speaker 8: that's a different mindset for them, Like they're used to
- 1:25:55Speaker 8: being able to kind of really move, you know, wherever
- 1:25:58Speaker 8: they want. College football transfer two three and nothing wrong
- 1:26:01Speaker 8: with transferent, but there's it's a different mindset. Like when
- 1:26:04Speaker 8: things are hard in the NFL, you're under contract and
- 1:26:06Speaker 8: you're gonna get cut. You're gonna figure it out. And
- 1:26:09Speaker 8: I think that's where it changes for guys, is that
- 1:26:11Speaker 8: they're not used to that that binding agreement that doesn't
- 1:26:15Speaker 8: really exist in college football anymore, and that they have
- 1:26:18Speaker 8: to play well to get money, you know, like that's.
- 1:26:21Speaker 2: The other In the NFL, they come up and ask
- 1:26:22Speaker 2: for trades all the time. Yeah, your boy in Cincinnati,
- 1:26:29Speaker 2: he said he wasn't getting paid enough, the Henderson, I mean,
- 1:26:33Speaker 2: it's news that he asked for trade, public public knowledge
- 1:26:37Speaker 2: clad airing the boy out. But you are constructually obligate.
- 1:26:40Speaker 2: You publly should think about that a little bit.
- 1:26:42Speaker 8: But I think there that is the difference, though, is
- 1:26:44Speaker 8: that there's no like I do like there's a resilience
- 1:26:48Speaker 8: factor to maybe some of how some of these kids
- 1:26:50Speaker 8: have come to college where the minute they don't like something,
- 1:26:52Speaker 8: they leave, and the adjustment period comes when they get
- 1:26:56Speaker 8: to the NFL and it's like, well I don't like this,
- 1:26:58Speaker 8: and it's like sorry, you know, like you you don't
- 1:27:01Speaker 8: have a choice. Like So that part, I think is
- 1:27:03Speaker 8: where it changes. The money part I don't think has
- 1:27:05Speaker 8: changed kids other than they just have more experience with money,
- 1:27:08Speaker 8: and so you're not as concerned about maybe some of
- 1:27:10Speaker 8: the things that a kid for the first time getting money.
- 1:27:13Speaker 8: Some of these kids are been making money for four years, right, Yeah,
- 1:27:15Speaker 8: paying taxes, and you know that's not new for him.
- 1:27:18Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:27:18Speaker 2: It almost might be a good thing actually that they're
- 1:27:20Speaker 2: making a little bit of money in college.
- 1:27:21Speaker 8: Yeah, especially some of the the guys that are getting
- 1:27:23Speaker 8: big money. You know, they're used to getting big money.
- 1:27:25Speaker 8: They're probably getting big money because they're good players, and
- 1:27:27Speaker 8: so they likely are going to get pretty good money
- 1:27:29Speaker 8: when they get the NFL by their draft positions.
- 1:27:31Speaker 1: So and hopefully have like the right teams kind of
- 1:27:33Speaker 1: already kind of building and structured around themselves to make
- 1:27:36Speaker 1: it an easy transition. You would hope.
- 1:27:38Speaker 8: I think there is a little bit of a uh,
- 1:27:39Speaker 8: there's some there's probably some predatory opportunities out there for
- 1:27:43Speaker 8: guys and some of these guys in college that don't
- 1:27:44Speaker 8: know anything, and when you're talking about putting people around you,
- 1:27:47Speaker 8: you just hope that they're making good decisions with it.
- 1:27:49Speaker 2: Yeah, gotta have a team, Yes, you have a team
- 1:27:52Speaker 2: that checks everybody. Yeah, Derrick Henry, Yeah, long time time
- 1:27:57Speaker 2: and going to be obviously in the Ring of Honor.
- 1:27:59Speaker 1: Eventually, No, that.
- 1:28:02Speaker 2: Was there a conversation with you and RAN. You have
- 1:28:04Speaker 2: to try to reach out and say, hey, let's do
- 1:28:06Speaker 2: this one more year.
- 1:28:07Speaker 8: They had touched base, you know, RAN had a relationship
- 1:28:09Speaker 8: with them, obviously being there for a year, and they
- 1:28:12Speaker 8: went back and forth on what the money would look like.
- 1:28:15Speaker 8: And we just knew we had the holes that we
- 1:28:17Speaker 8: had to fill. The money would be allocated initially elsewhere,
- 1:28:21Speaker 8: and the running back market went pretty good. I mean
- 1:28:24Speaker 8: there's some guys that got paid. It was higher money
- 1:28:26Speaker 8: than I think maybe we had projected to start across
- 1:28:29Speaker 8: the league for the running back position. And that's good
- 1:28:31Speaker 8: for those guys, that's great. And so when you get
- 1:28:33Speaker 8: into those positions where you know we're trying to fill
- 1:28:36Speaker 8: multiple holes in a free agency period, it's like where
- 1:28:40Speaker 8: do you want to allocate the money and how do
- 1:28:42Speaker 8: you want to spend it? And I think that I
- 1:28:45Speaker 8: would have been absolutely open to Derek coming back. I
- 1:28:47Speaker 8: think it felt like Derek was ready for something new.
- 1:28:51Speaker 8: And then the money part when it happened. Those conversations
- 1:28:53Speaker 8: go back and forth, and yeah, ultimately it was for
- 1:28:57Speaker 8: both parties, probably the best decision at the end of
- 1:28:59Speaker 8: the day for him and for us. But I mean
- 1:29:03Speaker 8: he is the He was the Tennessee Titans for the
- 1:29:05Speaker 8: better part of the last six years, probably seven years.
- 1:29:08Speaker 8: Where I mean, that's what you thought. You got to Tennessee,
- 1:29:10Speaker 8: you thought of Derrick Henry and look forward to the
- 1:29:13Speaker 8: day when he his name gets to go up in
- 1:29:14Speaker 8: that stadium because he's earned that right. Yeah, to be
- 1:29:16Speaker 8: up there with the greats. He's he's phenomenal.
- 1:29:19Speaker 1: Getting to hang out with you at the facility and
- 1:29:22Speaker 1: asking if you'd come on the bus. So she started
- 1:29:24Speaker 1: to learn that you were a bit of a STOOLI
- 1:29:26Speaker 1: in your younger days.
- 1:29:28Speaker 8: I was, Yeah, I was. I was.
- 1:29:30Speaker 1: I always know that you're on the bus. Did you
- 1:29:32Speaker 1: hit the group chat up?
- 1:29:33Speaker 8: Hey, I didn't tell anybody. Yeah, that was gonna be
- 1:29:35Speaker 8: there's I got some old from my high school buddies
- 1:29:38Speaker 8: will be pretty pretty fired up. Yeah that's pretty far.
- 1:29:41Speaker 2: That's awesome.
- 1:29:42Speaker 8: Yeah, I was. I I feel like I was on
- 1:29:44Speaker 8: the I was on the I was on the front
- 1:29:47Speaker 8: end of the barstool experience. I mean, it was back
- 1:29:50Speaker 8: when it was just a handful of those guys blogging,
- 1:29:52Speaker 8: when it was just the blog it was it was
- 1:29:54Speaker 8: a two thousands.
- 1:29:56Speaker 1: The blackout party is that what it was called.
- 1:30:00Speaker 8: Other my brother and my sisters went and went to
- 1:30:02Speaker 8: a couple of those blackout parties. They're they're only my brother,
- 1:30:05Speaker 8: only eighteen months younger than me, and they would always
- 1:30:07Speaker 8: tell me about the blackout parties and you see the
- 1:30:09Speaker 8: videos online. It was it was a it was a
- 1:30:12Speaker 8: different time on the internet, that's for sure. But yeah,
- 1:30:15Speaker 8: I remember. I mean those guys were obviously Big Cat
- 1:30:18Speaker 8: and and Dave and those guys. I've been reading those
- 1:30:21Speaker 8: things for probably pretty close to when they from when
- 1:30:25Speaker 8: they started, and laughed for a lot of laughed a
- 1:30:28Speaker 8: lot for a long time reading that stuff. So, uh yeah,
- 1:30:30Speaker 8: I'm I'm a I'm a stueleie. I've been. I've been
- 1:30:33Speaker 8: one for a really long time. I feel like it's
- 1:30:34Speaker 8: got to be a weird part that, like I'm be
- 1:30:36Speaker 8: forty years old in June, and I think there's like
- 1:30:39Speaker 8: this whole generation of like middle aged stoolies that were there,
- 1:30:43Speaker 8: no question. I mean, it's like, man, it's been theyve
- 1:30:45Speaker 8: been doing this a long time. It's yeah, like every.
- 1:30:47Speaker 2: Time I see Bake Cat, he's got more and more
- 1:30:49Speaker 2: gray hair.
- 1:30:50Speaker 8: You just I can relate, I can relate.
- 1:30:52Speaker 1: Yeah, who was your favorite who's your favorite personality? Well
- 1:30:55Speaker 1: whole up before you did.
- 1:30:55Speaker 2: Maybe we should tear talk this for him. Okay, are
- 1:30:59Speaker 2: you are you a familiar tear talk?
- 1:31:00Speaker 8: No?
- 1:31:01Speaker 2: So tier talk is we're just based. It's a ranking system.
- 1:31:04Speaker 2: Oh yeah, you're gonna start with three and work us
- 1:31:08Speaker 2: up to one. You can give as much context or
- 1:31:10Speaker 2: as those context as you want. The tier talk will
- 1:31:12Speaker 2: be your favorite barstool personalities.
- 1:31:17Speaker 1: All right, will be got there?
- 1:31:19Speaker 2: Yeah, you start with three.
- 1:31:21Speaker 8: Start with three you can.
- 1:31:21Speaker 2: Give an honorable mention to if you're having a hard time.
- 1:31:24Speaker 8: Okay, I mean I would probably be the originals of
- 1:31:28Speaker 8: the guys that I'm probably talking about. I would say,
- 1:31:33Speaker 8: I would say my three. Okay, three would be I'll
- 1:31:39Speaker 8: probably never be invited back here, But three would probably
- 1:31:42Speaker 8: be Dave probably never let me back here.
- 1:31:46Speaker 2: That's because he's too low or Dave gets gets mad
- 1:31:51Speaker 2: at us a lot.
- 1:31:52Speaker 1: Both.
- 1:31:52Speaker 8: I'm a big I'm a big I'm a big supporter,
- 1:31:54Speaker 8: so I want to appreciate it. I would say two
- 1:31:58Speaker 8: would be KFC and loveless and reading KFC's blogs back
- 1:32:02Speaker 8: in the day, and then one would be big Cat.
- 1:32:04Speaker 8: I thought Big Cat was his humor and my humor
- 1:32:07Speaker 8: were very similar, and so it was going, Bro, he is,
- 1:32:11Speaker 8: he's a machine man. I don't know how he does.
- 1:32:13Speaker 8: I don't know how he keeps it's I mean, he's
- 1:32:16Speaker 8: like he's like Internet Kobe or something like. He just
- 1:32:18Speaker 8: got this.
- 1:32:21Speaker 1: That his recall incredibility.
- 1:32:24Speaker 2: You'll have a conversation with him and four years later
- 1:32:26Speaker 2: he'll remember it. There was a clip that came out
- 1:32:28Speaker 2: yesterday about him and KB on the YAT and it
- 1:32:31Speaker 2: was back in October about him putting a razor blade
- 1:32:33Speaker 2: in some of kb's food and eventually he's gonna give
- 1:32:35Speaker 2: it to him with the calendar year, and he did
- 1:32:37Speaker 2: it yesterday.
- 1:32:38Speaker 1: He's like an elephant, Bro, he is.
- 1:32:40Speaker 2: He really is an elephant. I thought that was so
- 1:32:42Speaker 2: he actually.
- 1:32:44Speaker 1: Truth be told. He's got a question that he proposed
- 1:32:47Speaker 1: to you.
- 1:32:49Speaker 2: Is this the Is this the one?
- 1:32:50Speaker 1: Yeah, it's the one that we don't.
- 1:32:53Speaker 7: Like see PC the BC. First of all, thank you
- 1:32:57Speaker 7: for being a stoolian supporting us all these years. I
- 1:33:02Speaker 7: got a question for you on taking a piss while
- 1:33:04Speaker 7: I do this. I got a question for you on
- 1:33:06Speaker 7: the bus.
- 1:33:08Speaker 5: We'd love to have you on the show, and I
- 1:33:10Speaker 5: was looking at the calendar, June twenty fifth, If you
- 1:33:14Speaker 5: want to come to Chicago, we'd love to have you,
- 1:33:17Speaker 5: whole family, anyone.
- 1:33:19Speaker 7: Wants to come up June twenty fifth, come to Chicago.
- 1:33:21Speaker 1: We'll do an interview, we'll do the Gauntlet, We'll have
- 1:33:23Speaker 1: a great time.
- 1:33:24Speaker 5: So that's I guess My question is.
- 1:33:26Speaker 2: Can you come to Chicago June twenty fifth and come
- 1:33:28Speaker 2: on pmtant to some context.
- 1:33:32Speaker 1: The context on that is our Beer Games Championships of
- 1:33:35Speaker 1: the World is on June twenty fifth. He is, he's
- 1:33:39Speaker 1: on the list. He can't he's back out. He can't
- 1:33:42Speaker 1: back out. He can't bas he has he can't back out. Yeah,
- 1:33:46Speaker 1: and he's got this running bit happening right now that
- 1:33:48Speaker 1: he can't back out. And since we've had to do
- 1:33:51Speaker 1: a couple hurt we've had a couple bumps in the
- 1:33:53Speaker 1: road with the Beer Olympics, with the Beer Games. Sure,
- 1:33:56Speaker 1: he likes to give the boys a hard time. So yeah,
- 1:33:59Speaker 1: I guess he wants you to come on part of
- 1:34:00Speaker 1: my take, which I'm sure that's a yes.
- 1:34:02Speaker 2: Absolutely, June twenty fifth.
- 1:34:03Speaker 1: We're gonna have to. He's busy, busy.
- 1:34:07Speaker 2: We also it's vacation time for y'all, too right, it
- 1:34:09Speaker 2: is it is.
- 1:34:09Speaker 8: I'm moving. I am moving in that very short time
- 1:34:12Speaker 8: frame from Cincinnati finally down here. I'm living in a
- 1:34:15Speaker 8: house by myself, in an empty house with a bed.
- 1:34:18Speaker 8: That's the life, that college lifestyle.
- 1:34:21Speaker 2: The matches on the floor, wires everywhere, TV lifestyle.
- 1:34:25Speaker 8: Sitting on like a folding chair to watch TV.
- 1:34:27Speaker 2: You kind of do enjoy it a little bit. Huh.
- 1:34:29Speaker 8: There's part of it that brings back to your roots,
- 1:34:31Speaker 8: no doubt. But yeah, that might be a tough swing,
- 1:34:33Speaker 8: but we can look into it.
- 1:34:35Speaker 1: Maybe next off season, maybe next off the next off season,
- 1:34:37Speaker 1: because they will take you out to Chicago and just
- 1:34:39Speaker 1: let whoever your boys are. You heard him saying, whatever
- 1:34:42Speaker 1: wants to come, you should come with an entire crew.
- 1:34:44Speaker 2: And I'll say this about Chicago. Their HQ there is incredible.
- 1:34:49Speaker 2: It's like a fantasy factory basketball. They have literally everything
- 1:34:51Speaker 2: you want, basketball court, golf simulator, Chef Donnie and the
- 1:34:55Speaker 2: corner will make you whatever you want. It's some of
- 1:34:57Speaker 2: the best food you'll ever have. It's like the tidest
- 1:34:59Speaker 2: facility with out the indoor, without the football field.
- 1:35:01Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, it's crazy. It is.
- 1:35:03Speaker 8: It is very cool.
- 1:35:04Speaker 2: It's very cool. You'd really enjoy it. Cool.
- 1:35:06Speaker 8: My you know, my whole family is from Chicago.
- 1:35:08Speaker 1: Really yeah.
- 1:35:09Speaker 8: My dad's born and raised his South Side of Chicago.
- 1:35:11Speaker 8: My grandfather was a Chicago cop. Okay, but old Irish
- 1:35:14Speaker 8: Chicago cop.
- 1:35:15Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:35:15Speaker 2: Nice. Are you you grew up a Bears fan?
- 1:35:18Speaker 8: I did grow up a Bears fan until obviously I
- 1:35:21Speaker 8: became a fan of my dad wherever we moved to.
- 1:35:24Speaker 8: But when my dad was coaching in college at University Wisconsin,
- 1:35:26Speaker 8: that was like the Bears were you know, he still
- 1:35:29Speaker 8: I did still watches like every White Sox game. Oh really,
- 1:35:32Speaker 8: Oh yeah, not very good.
- 1:35:33Speaker 2: It runs deep in Chicago.
- 1:35:35Speaker 8: Deep is deep. So my whole family, my everybody, my mom,
- 1:35:37Speaker 8: mom's from the North Side, the whole family from Chicago.
- 1:35:40Speaker 1: Were you just a massive fan of your dad growing up? Oh?
- 1:35:42Speaker 8: Yeah, yeah. He was always the man always. I mean
- 1:35:45Speaker 8: it's you know, yeah, through you know.
- 1:35:49Speaker 2: Years where you're like he doesn't know everything.
- 1:35:52Speaker 8: I never I know I did not really? Oh yeah,
- 1:35:54Speaker 8: I mean, god, I need some not I mean so well,
- 1:35:57Speaker 8: I'll say this like my dad was. My dad is
- 1:35:59Speaker 8: an intimatemidating personality, and I was the oldest of four,
- 1:36:03Speaker 8: and so I didn't ever have It was like I
- 1:36:06Speaker 8: was scared to death to make a mistake because I
- 1:36:07Speaker 8: you know, you ever hear him, yeall, he got a
- 1:36:10Speaker 8: real loud voice and it's intimidating. Yeah, And I did
- 1:36:13Speaker 8: not want to get I didn't want to get in trouble.
- 1:36:14Speaker 8: It's all my friends be like, dude, you got to
- 1:36:16Speaker 8: Like I had like a ten thirty curfew in high
- 1:36:18Speaker 8: school for a while, and all my boys, you gotta rebel,
- 1:36:21Speaker 8: don't you can't. They're like they're trying. Well, you know,
- 1:36:24Speaker 8: it's like, I mean, ten thirties kind of early to
- 1:36:27Speaker 8: that is it's early.
- 1:36:28Speaker 1: But this is weekend curfew.
- 1:36:29Speaker 8: Oh yeah, this is all the time curf Like this
- 1:36:31Speaker 8: is yeah.
- 1:36:32Speaker 2: Seven old lights. Yeah, the game's over, You're going home home.
- 1:36:36Speaker 8: No parties for me, none.
- 1:36:38Speaker 2: That's the best. We don't forget that.
- 1:36:39Speaker 1: Go ahead.
- 1:36:40Speaker 8: But so that was the I was scared to death
- 1:36:42Speaker 8: of Like I was not rebellious to my dad because
- 1:36:45Speaker 8: I knew I watched my dad coach these guys for
- 1:36:47Speaker 8: all these years and how he his demeanor and his style.
- 1:36:49Speaker 8: I was like, I don't I don't need to cross that.
- 1:36:51Speaker 8: I don't need those problems.
- 1:36:52Speaker 1: Growing up, were you like, were you a troublemaker or
- 1:36:54Speaker 1: a straight shooter? The whole time?
- 1:36:55Speaker 8: I was pretty straight shooter.
- 1:36:56Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:36:56Speaker 8: I had enough. I had enough, probably enough mischief, but
- 1:37:01Speaker 8: not anything serious enough to really get in trouble.
- 1:37:03Speaker 2: What is the most devious thing you ever did as
- 1:37:05Speaker 2: a young team? Probably just tp a house, Probably egged
- 1:37:08Speaker 2: the house. That's a that's his next step. That's egging
- 1:37:12Speaker 2: is one thing.
- 1:37:14Speaker 1: He'll throw the toilet paper at the tree, but the
- 1:37:15Speaker 1: minutes might gets out of carton and eggs. He's probably thinking,
- 1:37:18Speaker 1: I want to He's the first.
- 1:37:19Speaker 8: One for me. Yeah, I can't go that far. Yeah, Yeah,
- 1:37:23Speaker 8: that was It was nothing more like nothing more than that.
- 1:37:26Speaker 8: It was never anything.
- 1:37:28Speaker 2: I had fun, classic boys being boys stuff.
- 1:37:30Speaker 1: Do you ever get in big trouble?
- 1:37:32Speaker 8: I did? Yes, I did one, and I was like
- 1:37:34Speaker 8: middle school probably m hmm. I I can't really want
- 1:37:39Speaker 8: to tell the story, but I am because it's funny
- 1:37:40Speaker 8: and whatever.
- 1:37:42Speaker 1: Uh.
- 1:37:42Speaker 8: When I was in middle school, we me and my
- 1:37:44Speaker 8: little neighbor next door, my buddy, I used to run
- 1:37:46Speaker 8: around all the time. We wesed. We decided we were
- 1:37:49Speaker 8: gonna make a torch parents weren't home. We run on
- 1:37:51Speaker 8: so we wrap all this toilet paper on a stick
- 1:37:53Speaker 8: and dip it in gasoline and we're like swinging it around.
- 1:37:57Speaker 8: We're middle school what I gave and we're swinging it
- 1:38:00Speaker 8: around and we're having a hell of the time. And
- 1:38:01Speaker 8: we're in these woods behind our house, and we try
- 1:38:06Speaker 8: to be responsible. We had water, put put the put
- 1:38:08Speaker 8: the torch in the water.
- 1:38:09Speaker 1: You know.
- 1:38:09Speaker 8: It's and and I look out like an hour later,
- 1:38:12Speaker 8: and nobody my parents were home. I look out like
- 1:38:14Speaker 8: an hour later, and the entire for the entire force
- 1:38:17Speaker 8: is on fire behind our house. I mean it was
- 1:38:20Speaker 8: like fire department. I mean it's like it's like flame. Yeah,
- 1:38:26Speaker 8: and we you know, we didn't mean to obviously, but
- 1:38:30Speaker 8: but it's like there's you know, it's a patch of
- 1:38:32Speaker 8: I mean it wasn't small. It wasn't like a whole
- 1:38:34Speaker 8: fun but I mean there was trees on I mean,
- 1:38:36Speaker 8: it was on fire. The fire warman had to come
- 1:38:37Speaker 8: and put it out, and uh. And but at the
- 1:38:40Speaker 8: time my parents weren't home. I was there, but I
- 1:38:42Speaker 8: was home by myself, and the fire department came, they
- 1:38:45Speaker 8: put it out, and they left, and I was like,
- 1:38:48Speaker 8: I'm in the clear. They're never going to know. And
- 1:38:51Speaker 8: so my buddy whose parents were home, they saw it
- 1:38:56Speaker 8: and they put the clamps on him and he cracked.
- 1:39:00Speaker 2: No, yeah, he cracked. He definitely boy cracked. Yeah, did
- 1:39:03Speaker 2: you have a talk with him after my brother?
- 1:39:05Speaker 1: You got it?
- 1:39:05Speaker 8: Like, come on, man, how did you get him to crack?
- 1:39:07Speaker 8: It's so easy because we were like relatively good kids. Like,
- 1:39:11Speaker 8: it wasn't like he was. We weren't trying to do
- 1:39:13Speaker 8: anything wrong.
- 1:39:14Speaker 1: I think he was.
- 1:39:15Speaker 8: But then so my parents know. And then my dad
- 1:39:18Speaker 8: asked me on multiple occasions, hey, do you know anything
- 1:39:20Speaker 8: about what happened back there behind the house? You Nope,
- 1:39:24Speaker 8: no idea. I mean lied to his face, lied to
- 1:39:26Speaker 8: his face, And I thought I was getting away with it,
- 1:39:31Speaker 8: and little did I know, I was just getting set up.
- 1:39:34Speaker 8: That was just he was just stringing me along, just waiting.
- 1:39:37Speaker 8: And that was the most mad I think I've ever
- 1:39:39Speaker 8: seen him, not because of what we did, but because
- 1:39:41Speaker 8: I lied to him about and he gave me ample
- 1:39:44Speaker 8: opportunities to tell him the truth, and I just stuck
- 1:39:46Speaker 8: with it.
- 1:39:46Speaker 1: So he did it a few different occasions, maybe the
- 1:39:48Speaker 1: first time he let it pass. I'll see if he
- 1:39:50Speaker 1: thinks about it a little bit more, old man, that's
- 1:39:52Speaker 1: a vet move.
- 1:39:53Speaker 2: That is a vet move.
- 1:39:55Speaker 8: So when you when you wonder why I probably wouldn't rebel.
- 1:39:58Speaker 8: When I was in high school, I saw that and
- 1:40:02Speaker 8: I was like, nope, no, thanks, No, I don't need
- 1:40:04Speaker 8: those problems.
- 1:40:05Speaker 2: That's a savvy dad move. My dad would go out
- 1:40:07Speaker 2: of town in high school and he'd like, you're not
- 1:40:09Speaker 2: all out in the house. I go to your mom
- 1:40:10Speaker 2: session all in the house. And one time we had
- 1:40:12Speaker 2: a party and I came home and I was like,
- 1:40:14Speaker 2: you you've been in the house at all. I was
- 1:40:15Speaker 2: like no, But he set up like T shirts and
- 1:40:19Speaker 2: certain things in parts of the house. I was I
- 1:40:20Speaker 2: was just a little bit dirty. But he remembered every
- 1:40:23Speaker 2: spot he put it in, so if it was moved
- 1:40:24Speaker 2: it all. When he got back, he know somebody was
- 1:40:27Speaker 2: in the house. I folded. It was like ten people
- 1:40:30Speaker 2: at the house too. It wasn't even a cool party.
- 1:40:31Speaker 2: It was a kickback, kickback. But yeah, man, dads are
- 1:40:38Speaker 2: good like that.
- 1:40:39Speaker 1: Yeah, Billy ever get you? Oh yeah, yeahsage that one
- 1:40:46Speaker 1: that comes to my mind. I think I've tolded before,
- 1:40:48Speaker 1: but my parents ri ode of town because my brother
- 1:40:53Speaker 1: I'm a junior in high school. So my brother, he's
- 1:40:55Speaker 1: a sophomore, absolute stud wrestler, he was. My parents said
- 1:40:58Speaker 1: that I had to wrestle that year, be grounded all
- 1:41:00Speaker 1: of winter. Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah. My dad said it
- 1:41:06Speaker 1: helped me in football, which there is truth the wrestling
- 1:41:09Speaker 1: helping in football. Yeah, But my brother had a It
- 1:41:12Speaker 1: was my it was my first week weekend, like on
- 1:41:15Speaker 1: the squad and they're wrestling your boy JV junior and
- 1:41:21Speaker 1: I thought it was so disrespectful. But brother, Yeah, my brother,
- 1:41:25Speaker 1: who's a sophomore there, traveled out to Kansas City for
- 1:41:28Speaker 1: this uh wrestling tournament for the varsity team. And so
- 1:41:32Speaker 1: I'm just back at the house by myself. So I throw,
- 1:41:34Speaker 1: you know, I throw a party, nice little banger, and
- 1:41:36Speaker 1: I'm talking it's ever clear. It's it's the cheapest of
- 1:41:40Speaker 1: the cheap.
- 1:41:40Speaker 2: The most of the most, the plastic stuff.
- 1:41:43Speaker 1: Yeah, and you know, it was rowdy to where basically
- 1:41:47Speaker 1: I had to be on the bus at like five
- 1:41:49Speaker 1: point thirty in the morning the next morning to go
- 1:41:51Speaker 1: to the JV wrestling tournament. And we were up all
- 1:41:55Speaker 1: night and I mean we're you know, we did I driven,
- 1:42:00Speaker 1: we take somebody home and drop them off there puking
- 1:42:03Speaker 1: in the driveway. As we're dropping them off, f I'm like, hey,
- 1:42:06Speaker 1: you gotta hurry, like we have to leave so I
- 1:42:07Speaker 1: can make the bus. And I'm still sauced from the night,
- 1:42:12Speaker 1: and uh, we're riding up. I'm trying to like get
- 1:42:15Speaker 1: some sleep. It's like an hour and a half bus ride.
- 1:42:17Speaker 1: And then I start texting the boys like I didn't
- 1:42:19Speaker 1: clean anything up, and my parents are gonna get home
- 1:42:22Speaker 1: before our bus gets back from the tournament. So just
- 1:42:25Speaker 1: terrible planning on my part. So I'm texting like Logan
- 1:42:28Speaker 1: and John and the boys. So I clean it up,
- 1:42:29Speaker 1: and they did their absolute best. They got some stuff
- 1:42:31Speaker 1: messed up, but they did what they could to clean
- 1:42:35Speaker 1: up the place. Well. I get back, by the way,
- 1:42:38Speaker 1: one the JV wrestling tournament did not get scored on hungover,
- 1:42:42Speaker 1: so just destroyed. But I get back and dude, my
- 1:42:47Speaker 1: mom finds this. There's a condom sitting out on the
- 1:42:52Speaker 1: end table that was being played with because forty year
- 1:42:56Speaker 1: old Virgin had came out and he was playing Aquaman
- 1:42:59Speaker 1: on his hand with the condom and my boy was
- 1:43:03Speaker 1: doing that. I mean, there was girls over and there's
- 1:43:04Speaker 1: fun to be had, but that particular loss that we
- 1:43:08Speaker 1: took was one that shouldn't have even been taken, you
- 1:43:11Speaker 1: know what I mean. And it was not fun. It
- 1:43:15Speaker 1: was not fun. My dad was one of those where
- 1:43:17Speaker 1: it was the same thing. I never wanted to be
- 1:43:18Speaker 1: in trouble by my parents. And I remember again another
- 1:43:22Speaker 1: another night where we got where we got caught drinking
- 1:43:25Speaker 1: and partying and stuff, and my parents came over and Logan,
- 1:43:29Speaker 1: my buddy, he's like my best friend and his mom
- 1:43:32Speaker 1: were pulling in the driveway and she's like, you guys
- 1:43:33Speaker 1: want to have a fun party. Boys will have a
- 1:43:35Speaker 1: party and just sit down on the grass. We're all
- 1:43:37Speaker 1: like wind up sitting down like you know, Indian style,
- 1:43:40Speaker 1: and all your parents are coming over. We got you
- 1:43:42Speaker 1: motherckers type of thing. My dad comes over and Bro
- 1:43:45Speaker 1: like you know your boys, got like tears in his eyes,
- 1:43:47Speaker 1: Like I'm like, Dad, I'm not going home, and he
- 1:43:49Speaker 1: like takes his glasses off. He's on like the other
- 1:43:51Speaker 1: side of the dining room table and we're in Logan's
- 1:43:53Speaker 1: house and he's like, son, you're coming home and starts
- 1:43:56Speaker 1: like walking around and I just start like going around
- 1:44:00Speaker 1: the table with it. Oh, Bro, but it was not good.
- 1:44:04Speaker 1: It was We've had We've had some runnings back in
- 1:44:06Speaker 1: the day in all and my dad it's always the
- 1:44:08Speaker 1: same speech, like you got the world ahead of you,
- 1:44:10Speaker 1: like you have at this point, I had like one
- 1:44:12Speaker 1: offer from like Illinois. Yeah, a dad, that's a good
- 1:44:16Speaker 1: call by dad, Illinois case stayed at the time, and
- 1:44:19Speaker 1: he was like, you're gonna you're gonna mess this up,
- 1:44:22Speaker 1: like you're gonna fuck this off. And but we had
- 1:44:24Speaker 1: we had some running some stories that definitely come to
- 1:44:27Speaker 1: my mind, and I'm like, fuck, the boys were in
- 1:44:29Speaker 1: some situations. Now. You never want to piss off your parents.
- 1:44:33Speaker 8: No, not not if you especially when you got one
- 1:44:36Speaker 8: that's not one you want to mess with either.
- 1:44:38Speaker 1: Yeah, bro, you know there's a story I told her.
- 1:44:41Speaker 1: My dad He's like, you ever want to shot at
- 1:44:43Speaker 1: the title? You just let me know. And he's like
- 1:44:44Speaker 1: this close to him and he just doesn't blow me kiss,
- 1:44:47Speaker 1: but he just goes and in my face and I'm like,
- 1:44:50Speaker 1: all right, all right, dad, And you ever want a
- 1:44:52Speaker 1: shot at the time A senior, Oh, a senior. You
- 1:44:59Speaker 1: should have swung that, man, Bro, I don't there's a
- 1:45:01Speaker 1: different now, I would you know out of respect. It
- 1:45:04Speaker 1: would never happen. I would obviously take take advantage of
- 1:45:07Speaker 1: him now, but dude, there was I mean, as long
- 1:45:10Speaker 1: as you could have respect for an old man on
- 1:45:12Speaker 1: beating your ass, he had every bit of it up.
- 1:45:14Speaker 8: Yeah, I'm not gonna lie to you guys like I
- 1:45:15Speaker 8: wouldn't be surprised like my dad could.
- 1:45:17Speaker 2: So probably with my ass.
- 1:45:18Speaker 1: You don't want to Bill, Bill?
- 1:45:20Speaker 8: Might you think he would?
- 1:45:22Speaker 1: Bill? But this, I mean yoga is don't sleep on yoga,
- 1:45:25Speaker 1: but this man's a yoga at six am probably every morning.
- 1:45:27Speaker 8: Yeah, just zen Oh yeah Bill, Yeah, Bill Kellen. Yeah
- 1:45:31Speaker 8: he can do the splits and handstands and stuff.
- 1:45:34Speaker 2: Oh okay, I I had no idea.
- 1:45:36Speaker 8: Like I don't. You don't want to mess I wouldn't
- 1:45:38Speaker 8: mess with him. Yeah I would.
- 1:45:39Speaker 1: That's the thing. Yeah, you know you're good. That's the
- 1:45:43Speaker 1: thing too. With like Bill, Like you know, he carries
- 1:45:45Speaker 1: this intimidating demeanor, but you know when he's saying something
- 1:45:48Speaker 1: to you, he has he has your respect because you know,
- 1:45:52Speaker 1: in his world he's putting in all of that work,
- 1:45:54Speaker 1: not just in studying, but in lifestyle with the yoga
- 1:45:58Speaker 1: and watching him prep all the way up until kickoff,
- 1:46:01Speaker 1: like laying on his back and just like studying his
- 1:46:03Speaker 1: notebook and writing down final notes. And he is the
- 1:46:07Speaker 1: man like I've always had a lot of respect for Bill.
- 1:46:09Speaker 8: I appreciate glad.
- 1:46:10Speaker 1: I never got to you, never had to partake in
- 1:46:12Speaker 1: his individual drills. But he always loved and the sled.
- 1:46:15Speaker 2: Yeah, I always loved the Bertha and Olga Olga.
- 1:46:20Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 1:46:20Speaker 1: God did he create those.
- 1:46:22Speaker 8: Yeah, he invented the sled.
- 1:46:23Speaker 2: Do we invent the actual sled or actual sled?
- 1:46:26Speaker 8: The sled that they were hitting, no ship, Yeah, that
- 1:46:28Speaker 8: actual actual invention of the sled.
- 1:46:30Speaker 2: Do we have as Yeah, this is a wild j
- 1:46:36Speaker 2: C is a he that's a unit of a man. Yes,
- 1:46:39Speaker 2: and he's being he got folded the first time he
- 1:46:40Speaker 2: see him starting to figure it out, and they figured
- 1:46:42Speaker 2: it out. There's no way anyone ever does good on
- 1:46:44Speaker 2: that the first time.
- 1:46:45Speaker 1: Never.
- 1:46:46Speaker 8: No, And that's when my dad's laughing at him because
- 1:46:48Speaker 8: they he bet him. Jasey's like, no, I got I'll
- 1:46:50Speaker 8: get it, I'll move and my Dad's like.
- 1:46:52Speaker 1: Okay, just hands in his pockets.
- 1:46:54Speaker 8: Yeah, but yeah, they they invented that sled when he
- 1:46:57Speaker 8: was in Washington.
- 1:46:58Speaker 2: That's that's impressive. Right there resetting the hits.
- 1:47:03Speaker 8: They call it taking another bite, So he takes another
- 1:47:04Speaker 8: bite and gets going. But that sled he he worked
- 1:47:07Speaker 8: with Ray Crowd, the company, and they they sort of
- 1:47:11Speaker 8: developed it together and and made that that sled. The
- 1:47:16Speaker 8: angles and the and the handles where your hands fit,
- 1:47:19Speaker 8: and like just it feels more like what a defensive
- 1:47:21Speaker 8: lineman feels like coming off the ball versus like the
- 1:47:24Speaker 8: old squared up sleds.
- 1:47:25Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:47:26Speaker 2: Yeah, with j C drafting him, getting your first opportunity
- 1:47:29Speaker 2: to get your hands on him a little bit, is
- 1:47:31Speaker 2: there anything that surprised you at him that you do
- 1:47:33Speaker 2: think that maybe he didn't have or is he.
- 1:47:35Speaker 8: Has advertised as advertised? I mean, we felt like there
- 1:47:38Speaker 8: was there was two linemen that we felt like we're
- 1:47:41Speaker 8: worthy of top ten picks, and that's Joe Alton and
- 1:47:43Speaker 8: JC and the two guys that we were like, either
- 1:47:45Speaker 8: one of those guys will happily take yeah, if they're
- 1:47:48Speaker 8: available to us. And thankfully j C was. And he's
- 1:47:52Speaker 8: everything we thought he was gonna be. And he's got
- 1:47:53Speaker 8: a super high ceiling because you just he's just got
- 1:47:56Speaker 8: all these physical tools that you he doesn't even really
- 1:48:00Speaker 8: know how to use. Them all yet, you know, but yeah,
- 1:48:03Speaker 8: super talented, great kid, all the things you could want
- 1:48:06Speaker 8: in an offensive lineman.
- 1:48:08Speaker 2: Was there a fear for you him playing his whole
- 1:48:10Speaker 2: career on the right side, now moving him to left.
- 1:48:14Speaker 8: No, because you know, one, it's been done before, guys
- 1:48:17Speaker 8: have transitioned from left to left. He played left in
- 1:48:19Speaker 8: high school, so it's not like he's never been in
- 1:48:21Speaker 8: a left handed stance. Played four years to Alabama because
- 1:48:25Speaker 8: he had to with Evan Neil and I think it
- 1:48:28Speaker 8: was Tyler Steen maybe, But so they had guys that
- 1:48:31Speaker 8: left and then they had a five star recruit come
- 1:48:32Speaker 8: in and he'd already played a couple of years over there,
- 1:48:34Speaker 8: and they were like, well, this is our chance to
- 1:48:35Speaker 8: get our best five guys. Well, you're comfortable they will
- 1:48:38Speaker 8: leave you there. But he's fully capable of playing left tackle.
- 1:48:41Speaker 8: I think he's probably comparable to like what Tyron Smith was.
- 1:48:44Speaker 8: Tyrann came out as a right tackle, played right tackle
- 1:48:47Speaker 8: for a year in the league, and they moved to
- 1:48:48Speaker 8: left in that transition. Obviously that worked out great for
- 1:48:51Speaker 8: him and for them. You know, he just did it
- 1:48:54Speaker 8: with Jedrick Wilson in Cleveland, which had played on the
- 1:48:57Speaker 8: right in Alabama and played left and he got to
- 1:48:59Speaker 8: Cleveland for the last four years now, so not unprecedented.
- 1:49:03Speaker 2: Yeah, and he's got the talent to do it, so
- 1:49:05Speaker 2: that's awesome. I'm glad to see her that he's a
- 1:49:06Speaker 2: good dude, because I worried those top notch SEC schools
- 1:49:10Speaker 2: after dealing with Isaiah Wilson in twenty twenty. Sure, that
- 1:49:12Speaker 2: was a horrible experience for everybody involved in the Titans.
- 1:49:15Speaker 8: Buildings from Afart seemed like that was not a lot
- 1:49:17Speaker 8: of fun.
- 1:49:17Speaker 2: No, it was not, But he does seem JP was
- 1:49:21Speaker 2: with him. JP's not in here. JP was with him
- 1:49:24Speaker 2: at IMG and he says he's an awesome guy. He was, dude. Yeah,
- 1:49:27Speaker 2: an IMG two academy. The they have like leadership, they
- 1:49:31Speaker 2: have like mindset classes.
- 1:49:34Speaker 8: It's a sports factory.
- 1:49:35Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:49:35Speaker 2: We always talked to Tyler Booker who was at Alabama
- 1:49:38Speaker 2: with him, and the way he was talking about mindset
- 1:49:41Speaker 2: and meditation and all that. It was like eye opening
- 1:49:43Speaker 2: to see that this young cat has all these tools already. Yeah,
- 1:49:47Speaker 2: it's because IMG.
- 1:49:48Speaker 8: Yeah, I mean that he's and he was a numb
- 1:49:50Speaker 8: one recruit. It's not like he's nombre recruit in the country.
- 1:49:51Speaker 8: He goes to Alabama, it's like his he's known nothing
- 1:49:55Speaker 8: but success. Yeah, and sometimes there's there's something to that.
- 1:49:58Speaker 8: I think it was cool though. The other day, after
- 1:50:01Speaker 8: the first practice, he struggles with the sled and he's
- 1:50:04Speaker 8: kind of kind of made him mad, like he's a
- 1:50:07Speaker 8: little bit disappointed he couldn't do it the right way
- 1:50:09Speaker 8: right away. And so it's like five o'clock. They had
- 1:50:12Speaker 8: the rookie minie camp in the morning. This was on Friday.
- 1:50:16Speaker 8: They appracticed in the morning. They're done at like about
- 1:50:18Speaker 8: five o'clock and sit in my office and look outside
- 1:50:19Speaker 8: and j C's out there like running one hundred yard
- 1:50:22Speaker 8: sprints and then he's like mosing down to where the
- 1:50:24Speaker 8: sled's at, and all of a sudden he starts hitting it,
- 1:50:26Speaker 8: says by himself, And all of a sudden, I walk
- 1:50:28Speaker 8: next door. I'm like, rand, should I stop him. He's
- 1:50:31Speaker 8: like let him go for a minute and just just
- 1:50:33Speaker 8: let him do his thing. And but he's out there
- 1:50:36Speaker 8: in the afternoon, mad that he didn't do well enough,
- 1:50:39Speaker 8: and he's out there working again. I'm like, that's that's
- 1:50:41Speaker 8: when you're like, Okay, this is the right makeup like
- 1:50:43Speaker 8: this guy's.
- 1:50:44Speaker 2: Yeah, that's as a juicy yeah. As a head coach,
- 1:50:46Speaker 2: you got to look at that and be like, that's
- 1:50:47Speaker 2: the guy we just drafted. That's awesome, unbelievable feeling.
- 1:50:50Speaker 8: That's awesome. And but then there's also the flip side
- 1:50:52Speaker 8: of it, is like, dude, you're gonna get plenty of work.
- 1:50:53Speaker 8: You might just want to take the recovery when you
- 1:50:55Speaker 8: get it.
- 1:50:57Speaker 2: But what a good first impression.
- 1:50:58Speaker 8: But yeah, I mean it was that that goes a
- 1:50:59Speaker 8: little way, and it was every day after that where
- 1:51:02Speaker 8: he'd be out like you just it's like part of
- 1:51:04Speaker 8: his routine. And when you see a young player, it's
- 1:51:06Speaker 8: got some routine where it's like I need to go
- 1:51:08Speaker 8: do this, this and this in the afternoon because that
- 1:51:10Speaker 8: helps me get ready for the next whatever it is.
- 1:51:12Speaker 8: At least there's some thought process behind it, like yeah.
- 1:51:15Speaker 1: Man, that'll do.
- 1:51:16Speaker 8: You'll be able, you can be alright.
- 1:51:17Speaker 2: That's got a fire.
- 1:51:18Speaker 8: Fire.
- 1:51:18Speaker 1: Titans fans so much looking for an assist with your

- 1:51:48Speaker 2: We have two massive Titan fans sitting on this bus
- 1:51:51Speaker 2: right now, Jack McPherson and Garrett Hargas. They've been Titans
- 1:51:54Speaker 2: fan since the beginning. Boys, do you have any questions
- 1:51:57Speaker 2: for coach CALLI?
- 1:51:58Speaker 7: Yeah, I do, Jack Parson, how's it going?
- 1:52:02Speaker 1: Jack?
- 1:52:03Speaker 6: Lifelong Titan fans, Super excited to have here on the
- 1:52:05Speaker 6: bus and behind the range of the Titans. My question,
- 1:52:09Speaker 6: with the significant upgrades we've gotten in the wide receiver
- 1:52:12Speaker 6: room recently, what is your plan regarding trailing Burk's with.
- 1:52:16Speaker 7: Him only having one TD in twenty two games.
- 1:52:19Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 1:52:19Speaker 6: I know you've been asked this before in the media,
- 1:52:21Speaker 6: but would love to hear it first and from you.
- 1:52:24Speaker 8: Sure, I think that's a that's a topic of conversation
- 1:52:27Speaker 8: these days. I'll tell you this, I only know what
- 1:52:31Speaker 8: I've seen of him. Obviously, I know that what precedes
- 1:52:34Speaker 8: him just because I've watched it and I understand it.
- 1:52:36Speaker 8: But from what we see on a day to day
- 1:52:38Speaker 8: basis with Tray, he's been phenomenal. Like his work ethic,
- 1:52:41Speaker 8: the things that he's done, does everything we've asked. He's
- 1:52:45Speaker 8: got unbelievable physical talent, and it's almost it's a personal
- 1:52:49Speaker 8: challenge to me and to our staff is how do
- 1:52:51Speaker 8: we find the best role for Trey to come help us?
- 1:52:55Speaker 8: Like I think he can be a good player, I
- 1:52:58Speaker 8: do think guys getting these situations sometimes, for example, you
- 1:53:02Speaker 8: know the trade AJ and they draft him, there's just
- 1:53:05Speaker 8: an intense amount of pressure on him to be AJ
- 1:53:09Speaker 8: or to replace AJ. And I think that that wears
- 1:53:12Speaker 8: on guys sometimes when it doesn't go well to start,
- 1:53:15Speaker 8: and it's hard to be a really good player at
- 1:53:17Speaker 8: receiver as a rookie. I think it's hard. I think
- 1:53:19Speaker 8: it's a difficult task, and so for him there might
- 1:53:22Speaker 8: have been a compounding factors of all that pressure he felt.
- 1:53:26Speaker 8: And then to be able to go play fast and
- 1:53:27Speaker 8: play aggressive and be free of that, I think is hard.
- 1:53:30Speaker 8: So what I'm hopeful for is that the addition of
- 1:53:33Speaker 8: these veteran players that we have in here a new
- 1:53:36Speaker 8: lease for him in terms of all I know is
- 1:53:39Speaker 8: what he's shown me, and I don't make any judgments
- 1:53:41Speaker 8: on what's happened before. And that opportunity to reinvent yourself
- 1:53:46Speaker 8: in a sense, I think is going to be really
- 1:53:48Speaker 8: good for him. And I've been impressed with what he's
- 1:53:50Speaker 8: done so far and I think he can play. But
- 1:53:52Speaker 8: it's like a personal challenge for me to find a
- 1:53:54Speaker 8: place for him to have some success because he's got
- 1:53:57Speaker 8: a talent and ability to do it.
- 1:53:59Speaker 7: That's awesome.
- 1:54:00Speaker 6: My second part question as well, who what credentials do
- 1:54:04Speaker 6: I need or who do I need to talk to
- 1:54:07Speaker 6: to be able to be the twelfth Titan and swing
- 1:54:10Speaker 6: that sort of honor put in the middle.
- 1:54:12Speaker 8: Of the You know, I've not experienced this yet, so
- 1:54:15Speaker 8: you might have to.
- 1:54:16Speaker 6: It's okay, it's the first thing they do right before
- 1:54:20Speaker 6: the coin toss, and usually it's like an Eddie George
- 1:54:23Speaker 6: or a Javon curse. But what about Jack McPherson from Nashville,
- 1:54:27Speaker 6: Tennessee swinging that sword? Also one request again, you've never
- 1:54:32Speaker 6: experienced this. We need to bring back the OG paintrain video.
- 1:54:37Speaker 2: Yes, yes, this is OG Paintrain video does have to
- 1:54:41Speaker 2: come back.
- 1:54:42Speaker 6: I don't know what happened if it was a copyright issue,
- 1:54:45Speaker 6: but there was an original video they played before every
- 1:54:48Speaker 6: fourth quarter of every.
- 1:54:49Speaker 7: Game, and it needs to come back.
- 1:54:51Speaker 6: I know if there's any Titans fans listening, they're turning
- 1:54:53Speaker 6: this up and going, come on, come on, Callahan.
- 1:54:56Speaker 2: All right, key, they're calling them Kelly. A couple of
- 1:54:59Speaker 2: things right here, Jack, while he's answering the credential part
- 1:55:02Speaker 2: of that question, can you pull up the pain train?
- 1:55:05Speaker 8: I'd like to see this.
- 1:55:06Speaker 2: Jack is a guy. If you give him a reward
- 1:55:08Speaker 2: at the end of a tunnel, he will work endlessly.
- 1:55:11Speaker 2: Rich Eisen has not come on our show for almost
- 1:55:13Speaker 2: three years now, and he was told if he tweets
- 1:55:17Speaker 2: at rich Eyesen every day until he comes on the show,
- 1:55:20Speaker 2: we will gift him a Chevy Silverado. We're at day
- 1:55:23Speaker 2: what three something? Today was excuse me? See three years
- 1:55:29Speaker 2: and I got mixed up with this.
- 1:55:32Speaker 1: This is the O. G.
- 1:55:33Speaker 2: Paine train.
- 1:55:33Speaker 8: But yeah, Terry, is this like Terry Tate?
- 1:55:35Speaker 2: Oh yeah, office Linebacker.
- 1:55:36Speaker 8: I used to love those commercials.
- 1:55:38Speaker 7: You're gonna have to put on headphones, I believe you
- 1:55:40Speaker 7: want to hear.
- 1:55:41Speaker 2: That's what this is great because they throw a little
- 1:55:44Speaker 2: Johnny Cash in here. This is awesome.
- 1:55:46Speaker 4: I started over Jack.
- 1:56:09Speaker 8: When did they stop playing.
- 1:56:10Speaker 1: This two years ago? Years ago?
- 1:56:13Speaker 7: Yeah, there there's a version of it. It's similar.
- 1:56:16Speaker 2: But people are saying ever since the one left the building,
- 1:56:18Speaker 2: they couldn't play that anymore.
- 1:56:20Speaker 6: I'm not saying it. But we bring the O G
- 1:56:22Speaker 6: video back Titan super.
- 1:56:24Speaker 8: Bowl four, Well, I'll do some research on that, Okay.
- 1:56:30Speaker 8: I gotta figure out why it went away in the
- 1:56:31Speaker 8: first place. Yeah, there's nobody anymore because I played a
- 1:56:35Speaker 8: Terry Sate video one time from the guys. How the
- 1:56:38Speaker 8: players looked at me like.
- 1:56:40Speaker 1: I forget he can hear me? I told him, I
- 1:56:44Speaker 1: told I told him. We had a we had our
- 1:56:46Speaker 1: twisted question. I said, that's the one you got to ask,
- 1:56:48Speaker 1: and I said, we can't let Mitch talk.
- 1:56:50Speaker 2: Yeah, Mitch michows are twisted questions and it's been it's
- 1:56:54Speaker 2: been tough unless he has helped with people in the DMS.
- 1:56:56Speaker 2: Twisted Tea is a refreshing hard ice team made with
- 1:56:58Speaker 2: real brew tea and five percent alcohol. Full of flavor
- 1:57:00Speaker 2: and very refreshing. Twisted Tea goes down smooth, no carbonation
- 1:57:03Speaker 2: would make which makes it easy to drink all day long.
- 1:57:05Speaker 2: Twisted you feel celebration of extreme fandom on game date
- 1:57:08Speaker 2: is a perfect beverage for a game day, whether tail
- 1:57:11Speaker 2: getting a parking lot, watching at a bar, or watching
- 1:57:13Speaker 2: with friends at home. Twisted tea is their turnaper game day.
- 1:57:16Speaker 2: Keep it twisted, Grab a refreshing twist ted today. First question,
- 1:57:20Speaker 2: how many Super Bowls do the Tennessee Titans have? They
- 1:57:24Speaker 2: don't have any right they could have had one, because
- 1:57:28Speaker 2: in twenty nineteen, Mike Rable, the head coach of the
- 1:57:31Speaker 2: Tennessee Titans, sat on this bus and said he would
- 1:57:34Speaker 2: cut off his dick for a Super Bowl. Now that
- 1:57:38Speaker 2: starts off two and four ends up? Are you fucking
- 1:57:42Speaker 2: I'm good that team starts off I'm trying for rst.
- 1:57:49Speaker 2: That team starts off two and four ends up going
- 1:57:51Speaker 2: to the AFC Championship Game, beating and ending a Patriots
- 1:57:54Speaker 2: dynasty in the wildcard and then taking down the one
- 1:57:57Speaker 2: seed Baltimore Ravens with Lamar Jason this first MVP trophy
- 1:58:02Speaker 2: before the Kansas City Chiefs in Arrowhead Stadium wearing the
- 1:58:05Speaker 2: same uniforms. Mike Vrabel was asked, you said you cut
- 1:58:09Speaker 2: your dick off for a super Bowl? Is that still
- 1:58:11Speaker 2: the case, to which he said, it's a joke. We
- 1:58:14Speaker 2: were up ten zero in the first quarter, end up
- 1:58:16Speaker 2: losing that game and obviously not going to the Super Bowl.
- 1:58:18Speaker 2: My question, my twisted question for you, sir, are you
- 1:58:23Speaker 2: willing to cut your dick off for a Tennessee Titan
- 1:58:26Speaker 2: Super Bowl? Got two kids, two beautiful children.
- 1:58:29Speaker 8: I don't know if I can. I don't know if
- 1:58:32Speaker 8: I can commit to that part. I got young kids.
- 1:58:37Speaker 2: As this twisted question, Yeah, what are you willing to
- 1:58:41Speaker 2: do for a Tennessee Titans Super Bowl?
- 1:58:45Speaker 8: I'd be willing to do quite a bit. Would you
- 1:58:47Speaker 8: take off a limb like a finger, let's say whole
- 1:58:51Speaker 8: hand like Ronnie Lott style.
- 1:58:52Speaker 1: Let's say whole hand.
- 1:58:53Speaker 2: Would you hold hand? Yeah, your dominant hand.
- 1:58:57Speaker 8: My dominant hand for super Bowl? Yeah, for the ten
- 1:59:00Speaker 8: See Titans.
- 1:59:01Speaker 2: As the head coach.
- 1:59:02Speaker 8: That would be pretty That would be pretty sweet.
- 1:59:03Speaker 2: Old man gets one.
- 1:59:05Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 1:59:06Speaker 2: Jack McPherson gets one.
- 1:59:07Speaker 8: That's the most important, most important.
- 1:59:11Speaker 2: Garrett Hargas gets one. Sorry you didn't speak, I was
- 1:59:14Speaker 2: wrapped up.
- 1:59:16Speaker 1: Would you take off that dominant hand? M hmm.
- 1:59:21Speaker 8: That would be tough, That would be tough to that
- 1:59:22Speaker 8: would be tough to offer up. But in fairness to
- 1:59:26Speaker 8: the commitment, I could, I could be if that's what
- 1:59:30Speaker 8: it meant, I would. I would give it some consideration.
- 1:59:33Speaker 2: That this is a answer no question. Are you willing
- 1:59:36Speaker 2: to now that we've narrowed it down to a dominant hand,
- 1:59:39Speaker 2: would you cut off your right hand for a Tennessee
- 1:59:41Speaker 2: Titans Super Bowl?
- 1:59:43Speaker 8: I cannot cut off my right hand because now here's
- 1:59:47Speaker 8: the problem. Here's the problem. I get into that same
- 1:59:50Speaker 8: situation again and someone says, I heard you would cut
- 1:59:54Speaker 8: your hand off. Yeah, you'd have to have some incredible
- 1:59:58Speaker 8: commitment to the process.
- 2:00:01Speaker 2: How about this?
- 2:00:02Speaker 1: Yeah, but then you finally do it, and then you
- 2:00:04Speaker 1: could bag then you.
- 2:00:05Speaker 8: Could well afterwards, then you can back with the commit
- 2:00:07Speaker 8: what's the fun in that?
- 2:00:09Speaker 1: Right?
- 2:00:11Speaker 2: Two options? I'm gonna give you two options. There's a
- 2:00:13Speaker 2: classic locker room where a gun to your head, you
- 2:00:15Speaker 2: have to choose one. Yeah, would you rather for a
- 2:00:20Speaker 2: Titan Super Bowl, lose one testicle or get a busting
- 2:00:25Speaker 2: with the boys. Tramp Stamp Championship twenty twenty four tramp
- 2:00:28Speaker 2: stamp on your low back?
- 2:00:30Speaker 8: Oh, I'll do I'll do the tramp stamp. Yeah, I
- 2:00:33Speaker 8: could do that. We got. I did a tattoo for it.
- 2:00:36Speaker 1: Took us a couple of ways when he said a
- 2:00:38Speaker 1: little too easy tramp stamp.
- 2:00:40Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, no problem, he's actually a tattoo right there.
- 2:00:42Speaker 1: One.
- 2:00:43Speaker 8: Yah, you can do it over the one already.
- 2:00:45Speaker 2: Get Yeah, Garrett, I did not give you opportunity to
- 2:00:48Speaker 2: time out, time out, time out.
- 2:00:50Speaker 1: He never got a chance to answer the uh to
- 2:00:52Speaker 1: say if he's going to bring back pain Train or
- 2:00:55Speaker 1: Jack an opportunity to maybe one day swing this.
- 2:00:57Speaker 2: Yeah, he told me. He told me to a swish.
- 2:00:58Speaker 2: I was like, we're getting right into it, right, that
- 2:01:00Speaker 2: is that's my fault. I'm realizing what I gotta do
- 2:01:03Speaker 2: the research.
- 2:01:04Speaker 8: On the video.
- 2:01:06Speaker 7: Yeah, Pain details that because.
- 2:01:08Speaker 8: I don't know what. I've never even heard of it.
- 2:01:09Speaker 8: I didn't know.
- 2:01:10Speaker 2: So let's let me it plays in the fourth quarter,
- 2:01:12Speaker 2: right Yeah?
- 2:01:13Speaker 8: Oh is that on the fourth quarter, like like renegade
- 2:01:16Speaker 8: style in Pittsburgh Like that's.
- 2:01:17Speaker 1: Yeah, yes, that's to kick off that fourth quarter.
- 2:01:20Speaker 8: Yeah, I hear that.
- 2:01:23Speaker 1: You know. The fans want to maybe you ask questions.
- 2:01:25Speaker 8: Yeah, I can do I can. I can at least
- 2:01:27Speaker 8: give you that. I'll look into it.
- 2:01:28Speaker 6: That's all I'm asking yeah, George, the swords new for
- 2:01:33Speaker 6: me too.
- 2:01:33Speaker 8: I gotta figure out what.
- 2:01:34Speaker 6: And maybe the sword just so it's a little bit
- 2:01:37Speaker 6: more enticing for y'all's demographic. Maybe we bring Will and
- 2:01:42Speaker 6: Taylor X Titans out there too, then they can help
- 2:01:45Speaker 6: and we can all as a team slam that sword.
- 2:01:47Speaker 7: In the ground.
- 2:01:48Speaker 2: We just both get on the knee and handed to Jack,
- 2:01:50Speaker 2: no doubt.
- 2:01:51Speaker 1: Yeah that's exactly Jack.
- 2:01:52Speaker 2: And hold it together and put around boys twelfth Man
- 2:01:55Speaker 2: then just King Arthur. Yeah, I like that.
- 2:01:59Speaker 1: Yeah, g did you have anything?
- 2:02:01Speaker 7: Yeah, I got a question.
- 2:02:03Speaker 9: So, with the addition to the weapons on offense and
- 2:02:08Speaker 9: a unfortunate Titans fan base that can be fair weathered,
- 2:02:11Speaker 9: what can the fan base look forward to this coming season.
- 2:02:16Speaker 8: Well, I think that we're gonna have a I think
- 2:02:18Speaker 8: we have a team of guys that are that are
- 2:02:20Speaker 8: hungry to prove I know not I know the perception
- 2:02:23Speaker 8: of us outside of of our building is not high.
- 2:02:29Speaker 8: I think we have a lot of people that don't
- 2:02:32Speaker 8: think that we're gonna be much and I think that's
- 2:02:36Speaker 8: where we want to be right now, and then we
- 2:02:37Speaker 8: have a chance to to prove a lot of people,
- 2:02:40Speaker 8: A lot of opinions wrong. I think we're made I
- 2:02:42Speaker 8: think we have a team that's made up to do it.
- 2:02:44Speaker 8: You're gonna have it. They're gonna play hard as hell,
- 2:02:47Speaker 8: there's gonna be I think we're gonna have fun playing together.
- 2:02:50Speaker 8: I think you're gonna see the energy and the connection
- 2:02:51Speaker 8: amongst the team. And at the end of the day,
- 2:02:55Speaker 8: the guys that we brought in he pair them with
- 2:02:56Speaker 8: the guys in the locker room is is we got
- 2:02:58Speaker 8: some guys that play football particular way. And that's as
- 2:03:02Speaker 8: as Dinard Wilson, our defensive courtinator, says, we've got some
- 2:03:04Speaker 8: dogs and he says d A w G. And that
- 2:03:09Speaker 8: stands for disciplined assholes with grit, and I like that.
- 2:03:13Speaker 8: But I think that's the image that especially on defense too,
- 2:03:16Speaker 8: with with lagerious and cheeto ating them at corner, Uh
- 2:03:20Speaker 8: you a big sweat and there in the middle and
- 2:03:21Speaker 8: Sebastian Joseph Day and your pair them with Jefferin. I
- 2:03:24Speaker 8: think there's some really cool things happening on defense that
- 2:03:27Speaker 8: I'm really excited about. And so again I can't make
- 2:03:31Speaker 8: predictions and promises and proclamations, but as far as the
- 2:03:35Speaker 8: people and what the team looks like, I think you're
- 2:03:36Speaker 8: gonna it's gonna be a product that people are gonna
- 2:03:38Speaker 8: be excited to.
- 2:03:39Speaker 2: Come watch, show up to the games.
- 2:03:41Speaker 1: People.
- 2:03:43Speaker 8: I said, Look, I said I said it in my
- 2:03:45Speaker 8: opening press conference. I said it like we need the
- 2:03:48Speaker 8: city of Nashville and Titans fans like we need them.
- 2:03:51Speaker 8: We need the stadium to be a place that people
- 2:03:54Speaker 8: come to and are like, oh man, I don't want
- 2:03:56Speaker 8: to go play in Nashville. Like that's what we're looking for.
- 2:03:58Speaker 8: We need that environment. So all the fans, Titans fans
- 2:04:00Speaker 8: out there listening to come on, come on, man. We
- 2:04:03Speaker 8: need everybody on board, and hopefully you get in early
- 2:04:07Speaker 8: enough and you don't get accused of jumping on the
- 2:04:09Speaker 8: bandwagon when when things go right.
- 2:04:12Speaker 2: That's well, yeah, that's a good question.
- 2:04:15Speaker 1: All core of a Titans fan base out there for sure.
- 2:04:18Speaker 2: Every yeah, every franchise has there five percent like that
- 2:04:21Speaker 2: five percent crazy fan base, and the Titans five percent
- 2:04:23Speaker 2: is strong.
- 2:04:24Speaker 1: That's great.
- 2:04:25Speaker 8: I love that.
- 2:04:26Speaker 2: It's they're crazy people in the best way possible.
- 2:04:29Speaker 8: That's what you need. That's that's what makes the NFL
- 2:04:30Speaker 8: the NFL.
- 2:04:31Speaker 2: Ye Matt neely Man, Yeah, he was the one.
- 2:04:36Speaker 1: Yeah, dude, Thank you for coming on.

- 2:04:45Speaker 8: I can't promise you that I'll listen.
- 2:04:46Speaker 1: Yeah, I hope he does. Just know that we might
- 2:04:48Speaker 1: have to say hey, will say you hope he listens
- 2:04:50Speaker 1: to that.
- 2:04:50Speaker 8: I think we can probably make that.
- 2:04:51Speaker 1: Yeah, we do appreciate you coming on.
