- 0:16Speaker 1: Welcome to Jackson This Onrning Kindnu Stephens, fran Sexton, John
- 0:19Speaker 1: Oser with you today. It's week twelve. The Jaguars are
- 0:21Speaker 1: preparing to head out to Arizona to take on the
- 0:23Speaker 1: Cardinals this weekend. This all coming off a really dominant
- 0:27Speaker 1: performance against the Charger Skier at home last week. Let's
- 0:30Speaker 1: get into our big Things for today, brought to you
- 0:32Speaker 1: by GEAJA Government Employees Health Association Benefits for federal employees
- 0:36Speaker 1: and retirees. Big thing number one is a new standard.
- 0:39Speaker 1: When we talk about that Chargers game, it's going to
- 0:41Speaker 1: be what I think the coaching staff refers back to
- 0:43Speaker 1: as the new standard for this football team and how
- 0:45Speaker 1: well they can play. Brian, how important is it that
- 0:48Speaker 1: they continue this new standard into another week.
- 0:51Speaker 2: Well, that's the whole goal of Gladstone, Bissellly and Cohen
- 0:55Speaker 2: and the regime that they have brought in and where
- 0:57Speaker 2: they're started. And I know everybody's thinking about game day
- 1:00Speaker 2: because that's the ultimate measure of what your standard is.
- 1:03Speaker 2: But really what the coach has been talking about this
- 1:05Speaker 2: week is the standard here during the week, from Monday
- 1:08Speaker 2: to Friday, whether you win or whether you lose, you
- 1:11Speaker 2: have to come in and do the same things every
- 1:14Speaker 2: single week, and hopefully you do them a little better
- 1:17Speaker 2: than last week. So the standard is how they work
- 1:20Speaker 2: on the practice field, how they eat when they're in
- 1:23Speaker 2: the dining room, how they work in the meeting rooms,
- 1:26Speaker 2: how they take advantage of the time in the strength
- 1:28Speaker 2: and conditioning spaces for rehabilitation. The standard is set from
- 1:32Speaker 2: Monday to Friday, and it shows itself on Sunday.
- 1:35Speaker 3: John, Yeah, I.
- 1:36Speaker 4: Think you know when you say new standard. You can't
- 1:40Speaker 4: reach a thirty five to six standard over another postseason
- 1:45Speaker 4: team every week, like Brian said, But I do think
- 1:48Speaker 4: you can. You meet the standard of fewer penalties, of
- 1:52Speaker 4: being physical with the line of exacerimage, of playing to
- 1:54Speaker 4: your level and then seeing that seeing where that ends up.
- 2:00Speaker 4: I said, You're not going to double another team's yards
- 2:03Speaker 4: or triple on other teams yards in the NFL every week.
- 2:05Speaker 4: But I do think Liam believes they can play cleaner,
- 2:08Speaker 4: they can play smarter, they can play better and if
- 2:10Speaker 4: if they channel that, you know, to me, that's really
- 2:14Speaker 4: the theme this week. Last week is great, but if
- 2:17Speaker 4: you don't follow it up, it loses a lot of importance.
- 2:21Speaker 1: Week tweak leak. We'll go on to our second big
- 2:23Speaker 1: thing today, which is gonna be Who's it gonna be.
- 2:25Speaker 1: We talked to a ton about the injuries for this team,
- 2:27Speaker 1: and this week is even more than we've normally seen.
- 2:31Speaker 1: Added on to the injury report. We're hoping to get
- 2:34Speaker 1: Brenton Strange back this week, John, but Trevon Walker didn't
- 2:36Speaker 1: practice yesterday. Any other names that jump out to you
- 2:39Speaker 1: from the injury report.
- 2:40Speaker 3: Well, Trayvon jumps out.
- 2:41Speaker 4: I mean a d NP after a knee the week
- 2:44Speaker 4: before leads you to believe that could be dicey.
- 2:47Speaker 3: You're watching Brian Thomas Junior.
- 2:49Speaker 4: I don't know there. I don't have a great feeling
- 2:51Speaker 4: about that, but that's pure, you know, just sort of
- 2:54Speaker 4: watching the last couple of weeks. I do think they
- 2:57Speaker 4: get Brenton back, and I think to me, Brian, and
- 3:00Speaker 4: the interesting part will be do they get Jordan Lewis back.
- 3:04Speaker 4: If you're out, Trayvon, I don't think you make up
- 3:07Speaker 4: for Trayvon being out on this roster. But they get Lewis,
- 3:10Speaker 4: Beck and Striegau and Green step up a little bit,
- 3:13Speaker 4: then you can counter that.
- 3:14Speaker 2: It's worth mentioning that Trayvon went back into the ballgame.
- 3:18Speaker 2: After he was initially diagnosed with the knee in the
- 3:20Speaker 2: second half. So we'll see where that's at. I have
- 3:22Speaker 2: no indication, but when you look at a team that
- 3:24Speaker 2: threw the ball fifty seven times and a quarterback who
- 3:27Speaker 2: set an NFL record with forty seven completions in again, yeah,
- 3:31Speaker 2: Jordan Lewis would seem to be important. He was out
- 3:33Speaker 2: there running around during the portion of practice that was
- 3:35Speaker 2: open to the media on Wednesday. Also, you hope Greg
- 3:39Speaker 2: Newsom is a guy who can come back. He's given
- 3:41Speaker 2: every indication that he will. You're going to need your
- 3:44Speaker 2: best covered corners out there on Sunday afternoon against the
- 3:48Speaker 2: team that throws the ball a lot. Now, they threw
- 3:50Speaker 2: it underneath a lot, John, I mean they dumped it
- 3:52Speaker 2: off to a guy named Michael Wilson who's thirty seven
- 3:55Speaker 2: catches on the season, but he got fifteen in the
- 3:57Speaker 2: game last week. I think it goes to show that
- 3:59Speaker 2: the Cardinals made the most of what they had with
- 4:02Speaker 2: Jacoby Brissett and the tight end and this guy Michael
- 4:05Speaker 2: Wilson and the third string running back, and they put
- 4:08Speaker 2: up a lot of yards.
- 4:09Speaker 3: So the defense is going to have to be ready.
- 4:11Speaker 4: Yeah, most coaches would tell you they don't want their
- 4:13Speaker 4: quarterback to set the league record for most completions or
- 4:17Speaker 4: because it means you're probably setting a big record for
- 4:20Speaker 4: being behind. But this Cardinals team, that being said, they
- 4:25Speaker 4: can throw, so you got to rush them.
- 4:26Speaker 2: They've been high and behind a lot the last two weeks.
- 4:28Speaker 2: They've given up forty one and forty four points in
- 4:31Speaker 2: the last two games.
- 4:32Speaker 1: Our final big thing today is going to be tight
- 4:34Speaker 1: end troublesompen. We talk about that Arizona Cardinals offense. It
- 4:37Speaker 1: runs through their tight end. Trey McBride and dam Cohen
- 4:40Speaker 1: talked a little bit yesterday about what the challenges are
- 4:43Speaker 1: defending him.
- 4:45Speaker 5: A lot of respect for Tray's extremely versa. It's whole
- 4:48Speaker 5: similar in a lot of ways. The brock that way,
- 4:51Speaker 5: and you know, look, you've got to have eyes on
- 4:55Speaker 5: him and understand where he is in the formation at
- 4:58Speaker 5: all times in terms of he attached, is he in
- 5:01Speaker 5: the hip, is he in the slot, is he at one?
- 5:05Speaker 5: You know, obviously building a plan around you know, stopping
- 5:08Speaker 5: guys like that is mixing up looks, right, is trying
- 5:11Speaker 5: to give different looks and present them and make sure
- 5:14Speaker 5: that maybe you have some some areas in the red area.
- 5:17Speaker 5: Whatever it is to double them or take away their
- 5:19Speaker 5: best player. That's some some things that we're looking at.
- 5:22Speaker 1: Brian is seem has had trouble with some talented tight ends.
- 5:25Speaker 1: We saw what Brock Bauers did. Trey McBride has the
- 5:27Speaker 1: ability to kind of go off, and that's clearly their
- 5:30Speaker 1: main target on offense.
- 5:31Speaker 2: You know, this guy plays like Travis Kelcey, he plays
- 5:34Speaker 2: like Rob Bronkowski, he plays like Greg Kittle. Great energy,
- 5:38Speaker 2: mixes it up whether he's blocking or whether he's catching
- 5:41Speaker 2: the ball. I mean, this guy's got a big time
- 5:44Speaker 2: I want to play attitude. I love watching him. I
- 5:47Speaker 2: think he's special. You hope that Devin Lloyd is up
- 5:53Speaker 2: for the challenge this week. You'd love to have Eric Murray,
- 5:55Speaker 2: but he's on injured reserve. Antonio Johnson's gonna have to
- 5:59Speaker 2: be on his piece and cues because this guy will
- 6:01Speaker 2: give you everything he's got. You had ten catchers in
- 6:04Speaker 2: the ballgame last week in that loss. But when you
- 6:07Speaker 2: watch him play, john I mean, he's just he's a
- 6:09Speaker 2: football player through and through.
- 6:11Speaker 4: Yeah, he's really good. I tend with storylines like this,
- 6:15Speaker 4: I kind of lump it into the same The Jaguars
- 6:17Speaker 4: don't play well against backup quarterback. Well, for fifteen years
- 6:21Speaker 4: they haven't been that good. So good players, good tight
- 6:25Speaker 4: ends have beaten them. Well, good wide receivers have beatn them.
- 6:27Speaker 4: I mean it's a little bit of that. That being said,
- 6:31Speaker 4: this guy's really good and I think Liam Cohen said
- 6:33Speaker 4: it best this week. You're probably not gonna take him
- 6:36Speaker 4: away with just one guy. One way to do it
- 6:38Speaker 4: you have to give different looks and frankly, you have
- 6:41Speaker 4: to shut down the rest of the offense so when
- 6:44Speaker 4: he gets his few, it's not a game breaking few.
- 6:47Speaker 1: All right, stay with you on jags Am. After the break,
- 6:49Speaker 1: I'm gonna go Behind Enemy Lines to learn more about
- 6:51Speaker 1: the Cardinals. Same man brought to you by Field's Auto
- 7:00Speaker 1: Group Jackson, the premier luxury auto group, and you can
- 7:04Speaker 1: head over to Fields Auto dot Com. Welcome into Behind
- 7:08Speaker 1: Enemy Lines? Are we checking with a media member of
- 7:10Speaker 1: the opposing team against the Jaguars This week we're headed
- 7:13Speaker 1: to Arizona, so we're checking in with Arizona Cardinals team
- 7:15Speaker 1: reporter Craig Grilud. Craig, thank you for joining us. It
- 7:19Speaker 1: feels like we've reached that point of the season where
- 7:22Speaker 1: I mean, you guys are battling some injuries, had some
- 7:24Speaker 1: reports come out on Wednesday, So where's the team kind
- 7:26Speaker 1: of at with you guys right now?
- 7:28Speaker 6: Well, some good news on Wednesday. Running back Trey Benson
- 7:32Speaker 6: had his twenty one day practice window opened up, so
- 7:35Speaker 6: he's been on the field. Not sure if he'll be
- 7:38Speaker 6: available come Sunday. By that at least some good news
- 7:41Speaker 6: for a team, especially at that position that has.
- 7:43Speaker 7: Been banged up.
- 7:44Speaker 6: Amaro de Mercado is not going to play this week,
- 7:48Speaker 6: so that leaves Bam Knights and Michael Carter if Trey
- 7:51Speaker 6: is unable to go, And then for the second straight week,
- 7:54Speaker 6: Marvin Harrison Junior is not going to be available as
- 7:57Speaker 6: well because.
- 7:58Speaker 7: Of an appendicitis.
- 7:59Speaker 6: So some good news, some bad news, but hey, no
- 8:02Speaker 6: one cares about your injuries because every team goes through it.
- 8:06Speaker 1: Yes we all do. We know our fair share as well.
- 8:09Speaker 1: On offense, some moving parts, as you mentioned, not quite
- 8:11Speaker 1: sure what the running back room is going to look like.
- 8:14Speaker 1: The Jaguars have had some trouble with significant trouble with
- 8:16Speaker 1: tight ends this year. Brock Bauers had a field day
- 8:18Speaker 1: and we know Trey McBride can always be a game wrecker.
- 8:21Speaker 1: So what have you seen from him this year and
- 8:23Speaker 1: how crucial is he to the offense?
- 8:25Speaker 6: You know, last season was his first full season as
- 8:28Speaker 6: a starter, and he had an outstanding year. I think
- 8:30Speaker 6: he's been even better this season because everyone knows about
- 8:33Speaker 6: Trey McBride now. I believe the stat going into last
- 8:37Speaker 6: week's game was that Trey McBride was the third most
- 8:41Speaker 6: double team pass catcher regardless of positions. So there is
- 8:46Speaker 6: extra attention on number eighty five, Yet he still continues
- 8:49Speaker 6: to be the focal point of the offense that was
- 8:51Speaker 6: even with a healthy Marvin Harrison Junior. Certainly Michael Wilson
- 8:56Speaker 6: and how he played last week will kind of maybe
- 8:59Speaker 6: change things up perhaps for teams coming up like the
- 9:02Speaker 6: Jaguars on Sunday. But look, whether it's Kyder Murray or
- 9:06Speaker 6: Jacoby Brissett, the tight end has always been the quarterback's
- 9:09Speaker 6: best friend, and McBride finds a way to get open.
- 9:13Speaker 6: And then what has made him, I think, elevate his
- 9:16Speaker 6: game to another level this season is what he does
- 9:19Speaker 6: after the catch. And then this season with already six
- 9:23Speaker 6: touchdown catches after having two last season, so the Cardinals
- 9:27Speaker 6: are doing a good job of finding him inside the
- 9:29Speaker 6: red zone and making that production mean something on the.
- 9:32Speaker 1: Scoreboard on the defensive side of the ball. Cup to cuff.
- 9:36Speaker 1: Tough couple of weeks the last two weeks for you guys,
- 9:38Speaker 1: But what do you think the defensive focus is going
- 9:40Speaker 1: to be for the team going against the Jaguars this week?
- 9:44Speaker 6: Every week, defensive players said every week it stopped the run.
- 9:48Speaker 6: And when you look at this Jaguars offense, especially what
- 9:51Speaker 6: they did last week at home against the Chargers, almost
- 9:54Speaker 6: two hundred rushing yards.
- 9:55Speaker 7: So the focal point for the Cardinals will.
- 9:58Speaker 6: Be defensively at least stop the run no matter who's
- 10:01Speaker 6: running that football, and then try to get into known
- 10:04Speaker 6: pass situation. Head coach Jonathan Gannon doesn't believe in the
- 10:08Speaker 6: sack number as a statistic as far as a winning
- 10:11Speaker 6: stat but he does believe in affecting the quarterback.
- 10:14Speaker 7: And we know Trevor Lawrence with the.
- 10:15Speaker 6: Eight interceptions this season, has been prone to the turnover.
- 10:20Speaker 6: So if the Cardinals can again make it a one
- 10:22Speaker 6: dimensional offense for Jacksonville certainly would go a.
- 10:25Speaker 7: Long way with the Cardinals getting to win on Sunday.
- 10:28Speaker 1: Can you give me a name or two, an X
- 10:30Speaker 1: factor player on either side of the ball that you
- 10:32Speaker 1: feel like we'll need to have a good game if
- 10:33Speaker 1: the Cardinals want to get a win.
- 10:36Speaker 6: Offensively, how about we just go with the low hanging
- 10:39Speaker 6: fruit in Michael Wilson.
- 10:40Speaker 7: Can he do what he did last week? Probably not,
- 10:42Speaker 7: He's not going to have one hundred and eighty five
- 10:44Speaker 7: receiving yards.
- 10:44Speaker 6: But without Marvin available, can Michael be that wide receiver
- 10:49Speaker 6: one for a second straight week? And then on the
- 10:51Speaker 6: flip side defensively, rookie defensive lineman Walter Nolan the third
- 10:55Speaker 6: has only played three games, but he's already tied for
- 10:58Speaker 6: the third most tackles for lost with four, and he
- 11:01Speaker 6: has found a way to be disruptive on that side
- 11:04Speaker 6: of the ball as far as either collapsing the pocket
- 11:06Speaker 6: from the inside outs or freeing up someone else at
- 11:09Speaker 6: Josh Sweat or Zavon Collins Acclays Campbell to make a
- 11:13Speaker 6: play in the backfield. Been very impressed by what we've
- 11:15Speaker 6: seen from Walter, Cardinals first round pick this season. Injury
- 11:20Speaker 6: earlier in the year, but now finally healthy.
- 11:23Speaker 1: Very good. We will see you this Sunday in the
- 11:24Speaker 1: Desert thanks for joining us.
- 11:26Speaker 7: Look forward to it.
- 11:28Speaker 1: That's Craig Grieloud with the Arizona Cardinals and our behind
- 11:31Speaker 1: Enemy Line segment to say with us here on jags Am.
- 11:33Speaker 1: Coming up after the breaker, we will tell you what

- 11:56Speaker 1: jags Am. We learned a little bit more about the
- 11:58Speaker 1: Cardinals from the team reporter, and now we are going
- 12:01Speaker 1: to give you our predictions from Monday morning. What we
- 12:03Speaker 1: think the headlines are gonna be? Brian, what do you
- 12:05Speaker 1: think will be talking about on Monday morning?
- 12:07Speaker 3: Well, I'm gonna stick with my theme all week.
- 12:08Speaker 2: You know, these Jags versus those Jags, and I went
- 12:11Speaker 2: with these Jags exclamation point. I really think I'm being optimistic.
- 12:16Speaker 2: I think Breton Strang's returns, I think they run the ball,
- 12:17Speaker 2: I think they passed the ball. Well, but watching this
- 12:21Speaker 2: team all week, John, watching them last week, it's clear
- 12:25Speaker 2: that you know Liam Cohen has got this team at
- 12:27Speaker 2: a completely different point than it has been in a
- 12:30Speaker 2: long time, and I think these Jags go out there
- 12:33Speaker 2: and handle business. I'm not saying it's gonna be a
- 12:36Speaker 2: clobbering like it was last week, because you can't predict
- 12:38Speaker 2: those kinds of wings. But I think these Jags will
- 12:40Speaker 2: play well. I think they will run the ball. I
- 12:44Speaker 2: think they will pressure the quarterback, create takeaways, and come
- 12:49Speaker 2: away with a win that sends them to Tennessee.
- 12:51Speaker 3: With the momentum that they built.
- 12:53Speaker 4: Last week, it's a big game because you feel like
- 12:55Speaker 4: they've spent the first nine or ten weeks. Remember this
- 12:59Speaker 4: is a new thing still, and when you start in
- 13:01Speaker 4: September with a new regime, you're still trying to figure
- 13:04Speaker 4: out what you are. And it felt like they knew
- 13:07Speaker 4: what they were early, and then last week the players
- 13:10Speaker 4: really bought into that. And you know, I'm not saying
- 13:13Speaker 4: they hadn't before, but there was a Okay, we get it.
- 13:18Speaker 4: This is how we're going to win, and you need
- 13:20Speaker 4: to follow that up. So I do think these Jags
- 13:23Speaker 4: is an appropriate headline.
- 13:24Speaker 2: One of the things that gives me great optimism about
- 13:26Speaker 2: these Jags. I had a conversation after practice the other
- 13:29Speaker 2: day with Shan Surrett, the offensive line coach, and we
- 13:32Speaker 2: talked about Anton being out and Cold.
- 13:34Speaker 3: Stepping in and.
- 13:36Speaker 2: Ezra Cleveland missing some time, and just the way that
- 13:40Speaker 2: this particular group, because listen, they're the heartbeat of the.
- 13:42Speaker 3: Offense right now.
- 13:43Speaker 2: If they're playing well, then this offense can go do
- 13:46Speaker 2: what it wants to do, which is be physical and
- 13:47Speaker 2: run the ball. I have the strong sense that that
- 13:50Speaker 2: room in particular is in a really good place and.
- 13:53Speaker 4: The other heartbey of the offense, which is why I
- 13:55Speaker 4: went with see segue that's a specional television here, Desert
- 14:01Speaker 4: Runner or Riders that I go at.
- 14:02Speaker 3: Run Desert Runner.
- 14:03Speaker 4: I don't a Desert Rider, but.
- 14:08Speaker 3: If they're gonna win, I think they need to run.
- 14:11Speaker 4: I think, for the most part, we have seen when
- 14:14Speaker 4: the Jaguars are are the more physical team, they're usually
- 14:17Speaker 4: the better team, and they usually win. It may be
- 14:20Speaker 4: an exception or two, but that's what they believe. And
- 14:23Speaker 4: if they're gonna play to their identity, which against a
- 14:26Speaker 4: team that you ought to beat, you ought to play
- 14:29Speaker 4: to your identity. So Desert Runners is what I went with,
- 14:33Speaker 4: and I went with base Shelle Tooton, but it could
- 14:34Speaker 4: have been Travis.
- 14:35Speaker 1: Etm any other runners. We're all running.
- 14:37Speaker 4: We're all runners, We're all runners, We're all winners.
- 14:40Speaker 1: Let's hope. I kept to the desert theme myself. I said,
- 14:44Speaker 1: it's not a mirage because I think a lot is
- 14:46Speaker 1: gonna come down on the secondary this week. And I
- 14:49Speaker 1: have been non complimentary of them at times throughout the
- 14:52Speaker 1: season because I feel they can play better. I think
- 14:53Speaker 1: this will be a great opportunity. They don't have a
- 14:56Speaker 1: ton of a run game right now. They're running back.
- 14:58Speaker 1: Has opened their practice window they start running back. But
- 15:00Speaker 1: I don't think he's going to play this weekend, so
- 15:02Speaker 1: I think it's still going to be a lot of
- 15:04Speaker 1: Jacoby Brissett, and this is a great opportunity for the
- 15:06Speaker 1: secondary to come in and shut some stuff down. They're
- 15:09Speaker 1: not gonna have Marvin Harrison Junior, who had an appendectomy
- 15:11Speaker 1: last week, so he's not gonna play, so a lot
- 15:13Speaker 1: of it'll be around Trey McBride and then some of
- 15:14Speaker 1: the other guys that stepped up last week in garbage time.
- 15:17Speaker 1: But I think this is a great opportunity for the
- 15:19Speaker 1: secondary to come up kind of prove themselves a little bit.
- 15:22Speaker 1: Greg Newsom, I think we'll be back. We don't know
- 15:23Speaker 1: about Jordan Lewis yet, but I think Jarian Jones has
- 15:26Speaker 1: been playing really great the last two weeks when Jordan
- 15:28Speaker 1: has been out, so I think this is an opportunity
- 15:30Speaker 1: for him as well.
- 15:30Speaker 2: So if you get those two guys back, and you've
- 15:32Speaker 2: got Jarian Jones who's playing well, and how about Christian Brasswell, right,
- 15:36Speaker 2: he stepped in last week and it looked like he'd
- 15:38Speaker 2: been for a guy who's been on and off the roster,
- 15:40Speaker 2: on and off the practice squad for most of his
- 15:42Speaker 2: young career. He looked like a seasoned veteran last week
- 15:45Speaker 2: and played very well. So much of what they do
- 15:49Speaker 2: in Arizona right now is the underneath stuff. You'd like
- 15:52Speaker 2: to think tip a couple of balls and maybe Devin
- 15:54Speaker 2: Lloyd or Foyer's there and you could get a couple
- 15:56Speaker 2: of takeaways and get that thing going again too.

- 16:14Speaker 4: the season and put themselves from you know, middling to oh,
- 16:18Speaker 4: they're pretty good right now. Based on the Chargers game,
- 16:22Speaker 4: you have some momentum to having one of those kind
- 16:24Speaker 4: of runs, and they need to get a couple and
- 16:28Speaker 4: make that colds game board.
- 16:29Speaker 3: If they're a contender, they win this week.
- 16:32Speaker 1: Yes, this is an absolute provy game, and I hope

- 18:25Speaker 2: Interestingly enough, the Jaguars, in their thirty first season, have
- 18:28Speaker 2: only ever been to Arizona twice, which is crazy. We went, yeah,
- 18:31Speaker 2: just scheduling and they you know, they redrew the divisions

- 19:03Speaker 4: They did not farewell and in the last trip there
- 19:06Speaker 4: in seventeen, they had beat by a backup quarterback in
- 19:09Speaker 4: Blaine Gabbert. So this needs to be a reverse of that.
