- 0:00Speaker 1: Yeah, that.
- 0:02Speaker 2: Chuck Norris was chasing the Tyrannosaurus Rex. The rex was
- 0:06Speaker 2: not chasing the jeep. Murray, Murray, you there. You love sandwiches. Huh,
- 0:11Speaker 2: Let's go to eighty.
- 0:13Speaker 3: It was bo.
- 0:16Speaker 1: Wow that Prime time. Maybe I had a crush on
- 0:18Speaker 1: Betty Rubbell.
- 0:19Speaker 4: I honestly, until after the segment ended and we went
- 0:22Speaker 4: to commercial break, had no idea that Jonathan Coachman was black.
- 0:25Speaker 1: He caught them the game last night, although they won
- 0:28Speaker 1: the game.
- 0:29Speaker 4: You're listening to stegattson Company moments before.
- 0:33Speaker 1: We started recording here.
- 0:35Speaker 4: It is Stegotts, a company presented by Fandel and the
- 0:37Speaker 4: Fandel Sportsbook. Taylor said to me, and he said to Mikeya,
- 0:41Speaker 4: and he said it out loud.
- 0:43Speaker 1: Pete Thamil, welcome to my world.
- 0:46Speaker 4: I had this story seventy two hours before you did.
- 0:49Speaker 4: I mean, we're talking about North Carolina and the fact
- 0:53Speaker 4: that they got rid of their head coach Hubert Davis
- 0:56Speaker 4: after taking them to a Final four, winning an acc
- 0:59Speaker 4: Champie and him beating coach Kay in his final game.
- 1:02Speaker 4: Youbert Davis is God, and I, of course, when I
- 1:05Speaker 4: heard the news, hopped on a bird because this is
- 1:07Speaker 4: important to me, it's important to Taylor.
- 1:09Speaker 1: If it's important to Taylor, it's important to me.
- 1:12Speaker 4: And so I flew right to Chapel Hill to try
- 1:14Speaker 4: to get to the bottom of this of what happened
- 1:16Speaker 4: to Youubert Davis and who's going to replace him as
- 1:18Speaker 4: the next head coach of the North Carolina tar Heels.
- 1:21Speaker 1: But the Tea and Taylor it stands for Theamil. How
- 1:25Speaker 1: about that?
- 1:27Speaker 5: I would say this for Taylor. I will mock him.
- 1:30Speaker 5: I will make fun of him at every turn when
- 1:32Speaker 5: give me the opportunity.
- 1:34Speaker 3: He absolutely crushed this one. He had this.
- 1:36Speaker 5: He had this three days ago. Pete Damil's like, oh,
- 1:39Speaker 5: breaking per me and somebody else.
- 1:41Speaker 3: I'm like, no, no, no, no, no no. Taylor broke
- 1:43Speaker 3: this three days ago.
- 1:45Speaker 1: Ye're just confirming it, right he did, yep.
- 1:48Speaker 6: So I kind of proved it with the Bill Belichick hiring.
- 1:51Speaker 6: When Bill Belichick came to Carolina and Adam Schefter was
- 1:54Speaker 6: doing the this isn't done yet, and I was like,
- 1:56Speaker 6: Schefter that inc is.
- 1:58Speaker 3: Is long dry, right.
- 2:00Speaker 6: Things don't happen in Chapel Hill without Taylor finding out.
- 2:03Speaker 1: Put it on the pall?
- 2:04Speaker 4: Do they Does anything happen in Chapel Hill without Taylor
- 2:07Speaker 4: finding app Why am I here and you're not?
- 2:10Speaker 5: I mean, how come Stu's flight was delayed and we
- 2:14Speaker 5: didn't know?
- 2:14Speaker 1: Right?
- 2:15Speaker 4: I mean, Jesus, I mean, how come your boots aren't
- 2:18Speaker 4: on the ground because you don't need boots on the ground.
- 2:20Speaker 1: Everyone's boots? Are your boots here in Chapel Hill? Right?
- 2:23Speaker 3: Correct?
- 2:24Speaker 6: I'm working the phones right now trying to figure out
- 2:26Speaker 6: is it going to be Billy Donovan, t j Otzelberger
- 2:30Speaker 6: at Iowa State, maybe at Michigan.
- 2:33Speaker 4: Yes, you didn't really report it that you speculated that
- 2:37Speaker 4: Youbert Davis was going to be fired.
- 2:38Speaker 1: You need to report it next time.
- 2:40Speaker 4: If you're that confident, you need to scoop them all
- 2:42Speaker 4: seventy two hours in advance and say you make it
- 2:44Speaker 4: in our business.
- 2:45Speaker 1: Just take a shot a flyer, It's okay. So I knew.
- 2:49Speaker 6: I knew for certain Carolina was moving on from Hubert Davis.
- 2:54Speaker 6: I just didn't know what the language was going to
- 2:57Speaker 6: be because Carolina and Carolina's administration wanted Hubert Davis to resign.
- 3:03Speaker 6: Right Hubert Davis, there was some pushback there.
- 3:08Speaker 4: He didn't want to resign. He still thinks he should
- 3:10Speaker 4: be the head coach at North Carolina.
- 3:11Speaker 1: The language was fuck you.
- 3:14Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 3:14Speaker 6: But there's also some reports that when Hubert Davis took
- 3:17Speaker 6: the job, he didn't necessarily want to take the job,
- 3:20Speaker 6: but Roy Williams kind of pushed the job on him.
- 3:23Speaker 3: It's like, Okay, Hubert.
- 3:24Speaker 6: Davis, you didn't really want to take This is not
- 3:25Speaker 6: what I want.
- 3:26Speaker 3: To do today. I don't want to bash you.
- 3:28Speaker 4: Wait, I just want to be clear the year because
- 3:30Speaker 4: it's important. Carolina did not want to fire Youbert Davis.
- 3:34Speaker 4: Anyone who knows anything about this program knows it's a
- 3:37Speaker 4: family oriented program. If you're in the if you're in
- 3:40Speaker 4: the tar Heel family, you're in the tar Heel family
- 3:43Speaker 4: for life. They usually hire from within that program, guys
- 3:46Speaker 4: who are familiar with the program, how it works, played
- 3:49Speaker 4: their coach there, have some coaching experience. So they wanted
- 3:54Speaker 4: Ubert Davis to be celebrated on his way out. But
- 3:58Speaker 4: Ubert Davis had no win interest in being celebrated on
- 4:01Speaker 4: his way out because Ubert Davis is not ready to
- 4:04Speaker 4: quit coaching.
- 4:05Speaker 1: He wants to continue coaching.
- 4:06Speaker 4: He thinks he should be the head coach at North Carolina.
- 4:10Speaker 4: I'm not certain if Hubert Davis will get a job
- 4:12Speaker 4: at any other college coaching basketball.
- 4:15Speaker 1: I'm not certain, but Hubert Davis told Carolina.
- 4:18Speaker 4: I don't want your fucking celebration. I want your job
- 4:21Speaker 4: at Carolina said no, you're fired.
- 4:23Speaker 1: And that's how it went down. How do I know?
- 4:25Speaker 1: Boots on the ground.
- 4:28Speaker 5: The takes just flow into you from the streets.
- 4:32Speaker 4: I go, I stand, what's the main street here, Taylor,
- 4:35Speaker 4: Franklin Street. Yeah, I go out to that street, Franklin Street.
- 4:38Speaker 4: I just stand there in the middle with my boots
- 4:40Speaker 4: on the ground, and all the news comes to me.
- 4:42Speaker 3: That's what you see Belichick this morning.
- 4:44Speaker 1: I did.
- 4:45Speaker 4: Yes, he came to me on Franklin Street. He put
- 4:48Speaker 4: his boots on the ground.
- 4:49Speaker 6: Oh Jesus, give him a boot out of town.
- 4:55Speaker 4: He's the longest tenured coach in North Carolina.
- 5:01Speaker 3: I love the idea of you across the quad going
- 5:03Speaker 3: Willie willieby.
- 5:09Speaker 4: I'm also laughing because Taylor, Mikey, we've been doing this
- 5:13Speaker 4: for a little bit now.
- 5:14Speaker 1: He leapt into news gathering.
- 5:16Speaker 4: Mode the second Hubert Davis was let go by North Carolina,
- 5:21Speaker 4: and we have a beat reporter coming on.
- 5:23Speaker 1: We are going to old school right now. A beat reporter.
- 5:27Speaker 3: That's what sports radio is all about.
- 5:28Speaker 4: You're right, you're right, right, but you're listen. You're going
- 5:34Speaker 4: to an expert. But you're the expert. And so what
- 5:38Speaker 4: I'm wondering here is you have your own career to
- 5:41Speaker 4: think about here. Okay, you're the guy who reported this
- 5:45Speaker 4: seventy two hours before Famil did.
- 5:47Speaker 1: Okay, he was late to the party, right, So.
- 5:50Speaker 4: The only people, the only person that people should be
- 5:53Speaker 4: going to is Taylor Hippolis.
- 5:55Speaker 1: That's it.
- 5:56Speaker 4: Like the guy we're having on here, he should be
- 5:58Speaker 4: talking to you, not the other way around.
- 6:00Speaker 1: That's all I'm saying.
- 6:02Speaker 6: So this is where there's the Stu gots a strong
- 6:05Speaker 6: in me. My confidence comes from Inside Carolina's confidence. Oh okay, God,
- 6:11Speaker 6: And that's why we got Greg Barnes because anything that
- 6:14Speaker 6: I'm kind of hearing most likely has come.
- 6:18Speaker 3: From Greg Barnes and Inside Carolina.
- 6:23Speaker 4: So he got it before Pete thatmilk, but he didn't
- 6:26Speaker 4: report it as certain right, with certainty.
- 6:29Speaker 1: He just said he was speculating. Correct.
- 6:32Speaker 6: They inside Carolina all weekend was reporting that a change
- 6:36Speaker 6: is coming, a change is expected, right, just working on
- 6:39Speaker 6: the final language.
- 6:40Speaker 4: Okay, so you need to next time, okay, when you
- 6:44Speaker 4: feel like you have the story, like, but Greg Barnes,
- 6:47Speaker 4: so he has a reputation to uphold, so does Pete
- 6:49Speaker 4: THATML they will not report the story until the story
- 6:52Speaker 4: is done, okay. So in an effort for you to
- 6:56Speaker 4: become the Carolina Insider, next time, you have something from Barnes, okay,
- 7:00Speaker 4: and you feel good enough about it because he is listen,
- 7:04Speaker 4: he has to appeal to a certain he has, he
- 7:07Speaker 4: has employers, he has journalistic Yeah, integrity, all the things
- 7:11Speaker 4: that you don't have, because I'm your boss and you
- 7:14Speaker 4: have no integrity. And the reason you don't is because
- 7:17Speaker 4: I am your boss and I'm your mentor. Okay, And
- 7:20Speaker 4: so what you need to do is not wait, look
- 7:22Speaker 4: at him smiling mentor stretch up.
- 7:25Speaker 1: Yeah, well, mentor of sorts, And so what you need
- 7:28Speaker 1: to do.
- 7:29Speaker 5: You got thirty mentors and he doesn't make the list.
- 7:32Speaker 1: No, no, no, no, no, nor is he. It's unbelievable. It's
- 7:36Speaker 1: everyone who's not associated with this show.
- 7:39Speaker 3: I have no idea.
- 7:40Speaker 1: Who is your mentor?
- 7:41Speaker 3: Is it Barnes my top two mentor? My top mentor?
- 7:46Speaker 6: I would say Dominique Fox work just because it's so
- 7:48Speaker 6: damn cool.
- 7:50Speaker 7: Just because he's cool.
- 7:51Speaker 1: What kind of advice has he given you other than
- 7:53Speaker 1: he's cool?
- 7:55Speaker 3: Just jackets his style.
- 7:58Speaker 1: That's a mentor right there. Who's number two?
- 8:03Speaker 3: Maybe BOUMANI real don't. I don't think Bomani knows that, though.
- 8:07Speaker 1: He does so, like, do you talk to him ever
- 8:09Speaker 1: when he's not on the air with us?
- 8:10Speaker 3: No, how was he meant to you? Of sorts? Of sorts?
- 8:14Speaker 7: Of sorts?
- 8:16Speaker 1: Right? So it's not me, it's not it's not like.
- 8:23Speaker 1: So this is all I'm.
- 8:24Speaker 4: Telling you, Okay, as someone who is sort of a mentor.
- 8:30Speaker 4: Next time you feel good enough about that news, you
- 8:32Speaker 4: need to report it with Gusto and I will back
- 8:34Speaker 4: you up, and I will get behind you, and so
- 8:36Speaker 4: Israel goody airs, And trust me what I tell you,
- 8:39Speaker 4: Israel getting behind you is far more important than ME
- 8:42Speaker 4: getting behind you, because if Israel says this is valid,
- 8:45Speaker 4: this is good. I believe in Taylor's sources, then everyone's
- 8:48Speaker 4: gonna believe you.
- 8:49Speaker 1: Okay, if I back you up, no one's gonna believe you.
- 8:53Speaker 4: The beat reporter who feeds Taylor all is Carolina information,
- 8:57Speaker 4: Greg Barnes.

- 10:46Speaker 4: Greg Barnes is a senior reporter at Inside Carolina. He
- 10:50Speaker 4: joins US, right now, I'm in Carolina, I am in
- 10:52Speaker 4: Chapel Hill, and I'm telling you you can't take a
- 10:54Speaker 4: step without someone asking you about Youbert Davis or who
- 10:58Speaker 4: the next North Carolina head coaches get be men's basketball?
- 11:01Speaker 4: Greg is with us, Greg, were you surprised by Youbert
- 11:04Speaker 4: Davis being let go by North Carolina?
- 11:08Speaker 7: I really was.
- 11:09Speaker 9: There was some belief late in the season that with
- 11:14Speaker 9: the injuries he was probably going to get another year,
- 11:17Speaker 9: But there's always that sipulation of you know, he needs
- 11:20Speaker 9: at least show well in the postseason, and clearly North
- 11:23Speaker 9: Carolina did not in that loss to VCU, and things
- 11:26Speaker 9: came apart very quickly behind the scenes for him, and
- 11:30Speaker 9: by Friday afternoon, a large percentage of the Boosters were
- 11:34Speaker 9: ready to move forward.
- 11:36Speaker 4: When you say things fell apart behind the scenes, can
- 11:39Speaker 4: you elaborate on that just a little bit.
- 11:41Speaker 9: Yeah, So, as everybody knows, in this modern era, you've
- 11:45Speaker 9: got to have sufficient funds to be able to fund
- 11:48Speaker 9: a basketball roster, and North Carolina this current season twenty
- 11:53Speaker 9: five twenty six, the roster was valued at about fourteen
- 11:57Speaker 9: million dollars. When you look at how North Carolina has
- 12:00Speaker 9: the rev share split out, football gets thirteen million, basketball
- 12:05Speaker 9: gets seven so I gets you halfway to that fourteen million.
- 12:09Speaker 9: And with how things have played out, and there's frustration
- 12:12Speaker 9: with Hubert. He's not never been really good with boosters.
- 12:15Speaker 9: This is not something he enjoys doing. There was significant
- 12:20Speaker 9: concern that they could reach fourteen million dollars again, to
- 12:24Speaker 9: the extent where they thought it was almost impossible, and
- 12:28Speaker 9: that was a driving factor in this.
- 12:31Speaker 4: In today's college basketball, you can't not have the winning
- 12:36Speaker 4: and not talk to the boosters at the same time.
- 12:39Speaker 4: That just doesn't work in today's college basketball. You have
- 12:42Speaker 4: to win and win big if you want to blow
- 12:44Speaker 4: off the boosters. I was not aware that that was
- 12:48Speaker 4: something Youbert Davis didn't like to do. And I'm certain
- 12:52Speaker 4: win or lose that had to bother people here at
- 12:54Speaker 4: North Carolina, right, Yeah, for.
- 12:56Speaker 9: Sure, And this is something he hasn't enjoyed doing from
- 12:58Speaker 9: day one, and of a good example. Everybody knows Mike
- 13:02Speaker 9: Brown is a fantastic fundraiser. He does that as well
- 13:05Speaker 9: as about anything.
- 13:06Speaker 7: If you look back at.
- 13:07Speaker 9: The twenty twenty three twenty four financial data, the football
- 13:11Speaker 9: program raised seven million dollars in donations. The men's basketball
- 13:16Speaker 9: program raised seven hundred and sixty thousand.
- 13:19Speaker 7: So wow, ten toimes less. That kind of speaks to
- 13:22Speaker 7: the differential.
- 13:23Speaker 4: If Caleb will Wilson Almos said, Williams the quarterback for
- 13:27Speaker 4: the Bears, if he remains healthy they get to the
- 13:29Speaker 4: sweet sixteen, does Youubert Davis.
- 13:31Speaker 1: Still have a job.
- 13:33Speaker 9: Bill Belichick would love to have Caleb Williams if we're
- 13:35Speaker 9: talking about probably so, and that that's kind of how
- 13:42Speaker 9: fifty to fifty this was.
- 13:43Speaker 7: I think if North Carolina had.
- 13:45Speaker 9: Had fared better in the ACC tournament and then maybe
- 13:47Speaker 9: won a couple of games in then Citeaway Tournament, there
- 13:49Speaker 9: would have been enough support to get another year. But
- 13:52Speaker 9: even saying that, if Hubert Davis would have come back
- 13:54Speaker 9: next year, I mean, clearly he would have been on
- 13:57Speaker 9: the hot seat. Clearly there would have been even more
- 13:58Speaker 9: drama around the program. So I think there was a
- 14:02Speaker 9: lot of belief behind the scenes that it's probably better
- 14:05Speaker 9: to go ahead and make a move because next year
- 14:07Speaker 9: it could really be a bad situation if the team
- 14:10Speaker 9: doesn't play well.
- 14:11Speaker 6: Greg, on the topic of Bill Belichick, You're looking at
- 14:14Speaker 6: some of the coaches on Carolina's searching on their hot board,
- 14:20Speaker 6: a lot of them have big buyouts attached to them.
- 14:23Speaker 6: Does the financial commitment the school made to Bill Belichick
- 14:26Speaker 6: kind of handcuffed them anyways in this search?
- 14:29Speaker 7: I don't think so.
- 14:30Speaker 9: In fact, one of the key things coming out of
- 14:32Speaker 9: that Belichick search was, yeah, I mean, it's kind of
- 14:36Speaker 9: been a disaster thus far, but it really convinced everybody
- 14:40Speaker 9: associated with the program and around the program that if
- 14:43Speaker 9: we want to be a legitimate national contender in the
- 14:46Speaker 9: revenue sports We're going to have to open up the pocketbook,
- 14:51Speaker 9: and they know that even when Bell Belichick moves along,
- 14:55Speaker 9: they're gonna have to spend similar money for football.
- 14:58Speaker 7: And if they want North Carolina basketball.
- 15:00Speaker 9: To continue to be an elite program, that means you
- 15:04Speaker 9: can't pay the next head coach what you were paying
- 15:06Speaker 9: Hubert Davis, which is three million dollars. You're going to
- 15:09Speaker 9: have to invest a lot more, not just in head
- 15:12Speaker 9: coaching salary, but also in support staff salary, also.
- 15:16Speaker 7: In nil commitments.
- 15:18Speaker 9: And then part of that, of course, is that buyout
- 15:20Speaker 9: package that you're talking about.
- 15:22Speaker 5: Greg, how much did his coaching tenure sort of sully
- 15:26Speaker 5: Hubert Davis's name in North Carolina? And do you think
- 15:30Speaker 5: that that sort of thing will affect how they look
- 15:33Speaker 5: at their next head coach.
- 15:36Speaker 1: Now?
- 15:36Speaker 9: I think with them getting out when they did, it
- 15:39Speaker 9: probably helps that. Now we'll say, the expectation and the
- 15:42Speaker 9: hope starting last Friday was that they could have this
- 15:46Speaker 9: nice ceremony and this Hubert Davis decides to step down,
- 15:51Speaker 9: they could celebrate.
- 15:52Speaker 7: Him, and he did not.
- 15:54Speaker 9: He did not want to resign, and so North Carolina
- 15:56Speaker 9: ultimately had to fire him on Tuesday, So that changed
- 16:00Speaker 9: he wasn't.
- 16:00Speaker 4: Playing along, which I find which I think is great
- 16:02Speaker 4: of Hubert Davis.
- 16:03Speaker 1: He doesn't have to play along, right.
- 16:04Speaker 7: Sure, yes he does not.
- 16:06Speaker 9: But I think if this would have gone on another
- 16:08Speaker 9: year and the team was not good next year, it
- 16:12Speaker 9: could have been very problematic for his legacy.
- 16:14Speaker 7: I don't think that's going to be the case now.
- 16:16Speaker 4: So it's interesting because Carolina it's it's it's a family.
- 16:21Speaker 1: They usually hire from within.
- 16:23Speaker 4: Youbert Davis played at North Carolina and Ubert Davis. I
- 16:26Speaker 4: understand lowing the eighteen point lead, but the body of
- 16:30Speaker 4: work five seasons one, twenty five, and fifty four made
- 16:33Speaker 4: a final four, you know, beat coach K and Coach
- 16:37Speaker 4: K's final game won the ACC regular season championship in twenty.
- 16:41Speaker 1: To twenty four. This seems very un Carolina like the
- 16:45Speaker 1: way they went about doing this.
- 16:47Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 16:47Speaker 9: The other aspect of that is North Carolina was a
- 16:50Speaker 9: sixth seed in the Nsinga Bay Tournament.
- 16:52Speaker 1: Yeah this year.
- 16:53Speaker 9: Yep, that's the second best see North Carolina has had
- 16:57Speaker 9: since twenty nineteen.
- 16:58Speaker 1: Yikes. Yeah, if you look.
- 17:00Speaker 9: Back at nineteen eighty five's when the tournament expanded through
- 17:04Speaker 9: twenty nineteen, Carolina was a four seed or better seventy
- 17:09Speaker 9: eight percent of the time. It's about four out of
- 17:11Speaker 9: every five years. They've been a four seeder better once
- 17:14Speaker 9: in the past seven years.
- 17:15Speaker 4: Right, Okay, Yeah, the standards very high, and he's not
- 17:19Speaker 4: meeting those standards.
- 17:20Speaker 6: Go ahead, down, Greg, with names like Dusty May, Tommy Lloyd,
- 17:23Speaker 6: tj Oslberger on you and C's board of candidates, how
- 17:26Speaker 6: does that work.
- 17:27Speaker 3: With them still coaching teams in the tournament.
- 17:30Speaker 7: Yeah, that's a good question.
- 17:32Speaker 9: And at this point in time, when you've got so
- 17:34Speaker 9: much agent representation, there can be back channeling that takes
- 17:38Speaker 9: place to see what kind of interest levels there are
- 17:40Speaker 9: and those sorts of things. Of course, the coaches are
- 17:43Speaker 9: not going to be able to have conversations until they're
- 17:45Speaker 9: done with their playing season, and that's part of the
- 17:47Speaker 9: process here. If you're aiming high, which North Carolina is,
- 17:51Speaker 9: you have to be willing to wait. And the challenge
- 17:53Speaker 9: of that is the National Championship Game is April sixth,
- 17:57Speaker 9: and the transfer portal opens on April seven, so it
- 18:00Speaker 9: is a tight window.
- 18:02Speaker 4: Of the names you've heard, what's the name that gets
- 18:04Speaker 4: or you think would get the fan base most excited?
- 18:06Speaker 1: Is it Billy Donovan.
- 18:09Speaker 9: I don't think it's Billy Donovan. Brat Stevens' Name's been
- 18:12Speaker 9: out there. We all know how that situation plays out.
- 18:14Speaker 9: I think Tommy Lloyd is the guy, given his track record.
- 18:19Speaker 9: I think he's got the personality that would fit at Carolina,
- 18:22Speaker 9: and I think a lot of people like what he
- 18:23Speaker 9: does at Arizona.
- 18:25Speaker 7: Right now.
- 18:26Speaker 4: If you're Carolina, though, this is a different you know,
- 18:29Speaker 4: it's a different world in terms of college basketball and
- 18:31Speaker 4: college football where Rick Patino was beloved now, but you
- 18:36Speaker 4: know a couple of decades ago that wasn't the case.
- 18:38Speaker 4: Why wouldn't you turn over every stone if you're in
- 18:41Speaker 4: North Carolina, meaning why wouldn't you make a call to
- 18:44Speaker 4: a guy like Rick Patino?
- 18:45Speaker 1: Why not?
- 18:47Speaker 9: I don't think there's any reason not to. I do
- 18:50Speaker 9: think one thing that's relevant here is that there are
- 18:53Speaker 9: probably certain people that don't have the right personality. There's
- 18:56Speaker 9: some coaches, as we all know, have a little bit
- 18:58Speaker 9: of arrogance, a little bit of brattiness to them. Sure,
- 19:01Speaker 9: for some sites, that's perfectly fine. Right for Carolina, that's
- 19:05Speaker 9: not gonna fly. And you have to be a little
- 19:07Speaker 9: bit more personable in those.
- 19:09Speaker 7: Types of things.
- 19:10Speaker 4: What is it about Carolina? Explain that a little bit.
- 19:12Speaker 4: I gotta be honest with you. It makes me hate
- 19:16Speaker 4: North Carolina. Go hire fucking Rick Patino.
- 19:18Speaker 7: I mean, geez, you're on the ground. You can go
- 19:21Speaker 7: talk to them.
- 19:21Speaker 1: I am, I have boots on the ground.
- 19:23Speaker 7: You're it's the southern gentleman charm.
- 19:26Speaker 2: Right.
- 19:26Speaker 7: I guess that's the best.
- 19:27Speaker 1: Sition, like Roy Williams was a perfect fit for that.
- 19:30Speaker 7: Yes, exactly, you're right.
- 19:31Speaker 9: Indeed, Smith right, Carolina hasn't had a coach that will
- 19:35Speaker 9: cuss other than a handful of times in fifty.
- 19:38Speaker 1: Years, so I know, I know.
- 19:40Speaker 4: But college basketball is no longer college basketball, and Carolina
- 19:43Speaker 4: might want to rethink about how their approach and how
- 19:46Speaker 4: they move forward here in twenty twenty six.
- 19:48Speaker 1: That's all I'm saying.
- 19:49Speaker 7: Baby steps, baby steps.
- 19:52Speaker 6: You're right, Greg, you mentioned that Billy Donovan wouldn't be
- 19:55Speaker 6: most UNC's fans' first choice. But what if, I say,
- 19:59Speaker 6: if Billy leaves the Bulls for Carolina, John Shire.
- 20:03Speaker 9: Leaves Duke for the Bulls, Oh jeez, that's two birds
- 20:07Speaker 9: when Stone did right, Yeah, that's a possibility. And look,
- 20:11Speaker 9: I think it's pretty clear that Billy Donnov than once
- 20:12Speaker 9: side of Chicago, and his name is in a lot
- 20:16Speaker 9: of searches right now. Behind the scenes. Certainly, I think
- 20:20Speaker 9: he would be interested in Carolina. It's just a matter
- 20:22Speaker 9: of that Carolina would really be interested in him. In
- 20:24Speaker 9: terms of the packing order.
- 20:26Speaker 4: Shire's success here with Duke that had the factor into
- 20:29Speaker 4: Carolina doing what they did, right.
- 20:31Speaker 9: It does, and I think that's a that's a good
- 20:32Speaker 9: thing for Carolina because Duke is sting setting the bar
- 20:35Speaker 9: and North Carolina does not want to take a back
- 20:37Speaker 9: seat to Duke.
- 20:39Speaker 4: Is there a former Carolina guy that perhaps we're not
- 20:41Speaker 4: thinking of that could be Kenny Smith on the radar
- 20:45Speaker 4: or someone like that.
- 20:46Speaker 7: I don't think so.
- 20:46Speaker 9: They're they're pretty dead set on making sure they hire
- 20:49Speaker 9: somebody that has a proven track record, and there's just
- 20:52Speaker 9: nobody in the UNC coaching tree right now that.
- 20:54Speaker 1: Ads that right and some Southern charm that's what they need.
- 20:57Speaker 6: Yes, Greg, how does Bill self being unsure if he'll
- 21:03Speaker 6: return to Kansas affect Carolina search?
- 21:06Speaker 9: I think that is a massive elephant in the room
- 21:11Speaker 9: because it's one thing if you're the only blue blood
- 21:14Speaker 9: searching for a coach, but once you add another one
- 21:18Speaker 9: like Kansas and every all of a sudden, everybody's kind
- 21:21Speaker 9: of competing for the same positions, which means that the
- 21:24Speaker 9: bidding process is elevated. There's a lot of other dynamics
- 21:29Speaker 9: to go into play. So one of the advantages of
- 21:31Speaker 9: North Carolina has at this moment is that they have
- 21:35Speaker 9: an op open coaching job.
- 21:38Speaker 1: Kansas does not.
- 21:39Speaker 7: Yes, but that's gonna change, I would imagine very soon.
- 21:42Speaker 1: Right wow.
- 21:43Speaker 4: I mean these jobs usually they never become available. And
- 21:46Speaker 4: to have Carolina and Kansas of it. Roy Williams went
- 21:49Speaker 4: to Kansas so we could wait for the Carolina job.
- 21:51Speaker 1: I mean, this is crazy.
- 21:52Speaker 7: And Dean Smith, you have from Kansas.
- 21:55Speaker 4: I know what a time in college sports, Indiana dominates football.
- 22:00Speaker 1: We appreciate your time.
- 22:01Speaker 4: Man.
- 22:01Speaker 1: Listen.
- 22:02Speaker 4: If I hear anything, I'm gonna walk around. I'm gonna
- 22:04Speaker 4: talk to some people see if I can get to
- 22:06Speaker 4: the bottom of this.
- 22:06Speaker 1: If I do, I will uh.
- 22:08Speaker 4: I will shoot you at text and let you know,
- 22:09Speaker 4: okay before anyone else does.
- 22:11Speaker 7: You can't cuss and chapl will just have.
- 22:15Speaker 1: Five times during this interview. Thank you buddy.
- 22:18Speaker 7: Thanks guys.
- 22:19Speaker 1: All right,
