- 0:00Speaker 1: This is Ambashi and Bach. I'm on the bock down
- 0:03Speaker 1: Under Tour November twenty twenty five Perth, Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane,
- 0:13Speaker 1: bris Vegas and I'm talking to you from Las Vegas,
- 0:17Speaker 1: talking to you from Las Vegas, from Las Vegas to
- 0:20Speaker 1: bris Vegas.
- 0:22Speaker 2: Fastic subversion. Thanks for joining us today, right, Always a pleasure?
- 0:26Speaker 2: Cool as you say.
- 0:28Speaker 3: Man.
- 0:28Speaker 2: You returned to Australia this November for a run of shows,
- 0:31Speaker 2: starting in Freemantle on the twenty first November, then you
- 0:34Speaker 2: hit Adelaide, Melbourne and Sydney and finishing Brisbane on the
- 0:37Speaker 2: twenty ninth.
- 0:37Speaker 3: So how you feel it? Might? It's been a bit
- 0:39Speaker 3: a while so.
- 0:41Speaker 1: We started Fremantle.
- 0:44Speaker 3: It's according to my notes, you do.
- 0:45Speaker 1: I thought I thought we started Perth.
- 0:47Speaker 3: Is it Freman Mantles in Perth? Bright?
- 0:50Speaker 1: I thought Freemantle is like another city that's north of Perth.
- 0:55Speaker 3: Ey, oh, I don't walk it.
- 0:58Speaker 1: Well that's where I'm bon Scott from right exactly, brother,
- 1:02Speaker 1: So that's rock and roll hallowed ground right there.
- 1:06Speaker 2: So yeah, oh yeah, Well you're just going through the
- 1:10Speaker 2: rum street too that you've actually left yourself a few
- 1:12Speaker 2: days off this time?
- 1:13Speaker 3: Might say, you gotta be doing a bit of touristy stuff.
- 1:16Speaker 1: Well, you know, I would like to play more cities.
- 1:19Speaker 1: I would like to play Canberra. I'd like to play Hobart,
- 1:23Speaker 1: I'd like to play Woolengong. I don't know, you know,
- 1:28Speaker 1: maybe maybe we can do some more cities. I'd like
- 1:31Speaker 1: to do New Zealand. But I remember looking at a
- 1:34Speaker 1: tour sheet from Pink from Australia and she played like
- 1:40Speaker 1: thirty five cities and I'm like, what the heck? Man? Like,
- 1:44Speaker 1: like I didn't even know there were that many cities
- 1:47Speaker 1: in Australia.
- 1:48Speaker 3: Probably isn't well, Yeah.
- 1:50Speaker 1: She plays like everywhere, so I would like to do
- 1:54Speaker 1: even more. Let's fill up those days off with some
- 1:57Speaker 1: more gigs, maybe, is my point.
- 1:59Speaker 3: I was good.
- 2:02Speaker 2: I like you said, Elia Bry you're gonna be performing
- 2:04Speaker 2: Skidwride's self thought of diabut album in old which you've
- 2:08Speaker 2: been doing our decease already, So how are our shouldws
- 2:10Speaker 2: be gone?
- 2:11Speaker 1: Well, we actually did that way back in twenty nineteen
- 2:16Speaker 1: because it was the thirtieth anniversary. Came out in nineteen
- 2:20Speaker 1: eighty nine and we were booked to play Australia in
- 2:24Speaker 1: twenty twenty, but then twenty twenty happened, so we couldn't
- 2:30Speaker 1: leave the house and we have not been back since.
- 2:34Speaker 1: And the promoter was like, please please give us that
- 2:39Speaker 1: tour because everybody was excited about it. It never happened,
- 2:43Speaker 1: So we're only doing this in Australia. This is only
- 2:48Speaker 1: for Australia because it was already gonna happen and then
- 2:53Speaker 1: it couldn't happen, so we're gonna do it. We're the
- 2:57Speaker 1: first record. There's only forty five and it's long, so
- 3:01Speaker 1: that's not a full show. So we'll be doing new
- 3:04Speaker 1: songs from my new record, Child within the Man. We'll
- 3:07Speaker 1: be doing a couple of songs from a Slave to
- 3:10Speaker 1: the Grind. But you know, we got some really good
- 3:15Speaker 1: new songs like what do I Got to Lose is
- 3:18Speaker 1: the closest thing that I've had to have hit in
- 3:21Speaker 1: thirty five years. People love that tune. The video is
- 3:24Speaker 1: almost two million views, which is double platinum in my
- 3:28Speaker 1: day back in the dyke, that's right. So we have
- 3:34Speaker 1: some great new songs and people love the first record,
- 3:38Speaker 1: skid Row. So you know, we only have one life
- 3:43Speaker 1: we got we gotta make the most of it. So
- 3:45Speaker 1: We're gonna give you the.
- 3:46Speaker 3: Tour games right now.
- 3:48Speaker 2: There was a few relearning the songs from that debut album.
- 3:52Speaker 2: I can imagine when when the band write it, I
- 3:54Speaker 2: wouldn't have expected to ever play the whole thing one day.
- 3:57Speaker 3: Say, was there any difficulties finding some of the songs?
- 4:00Speaker 1: Uh, well, there's certain notes that are very challenging. We actually,
- 4:07Speaker 1: we actually in America did another tour that we did
- 4:11Speaker 1: the album Slave to the Grind in its entirety, with
- 4:15Speaker 1: forty cities, like crazy of that. How much I've done this.
- 4:19Speaker 1: But but what I learned when you said was it
- 4:24Speaker 1: challenging relearning the first record? I learned that the first
- 4:28Speaker 1: record was more about singing, and Slave to the Grind
- 4:33Speaker 1: was more about screaming like I saw like living on
- 4:40Speaker 1: a chain gang of slave That is just me screaming
- 4:47Speaker 1: at the top of my lungs. As for the whole
- 4:49Speaker 1: song on the first record, there's more pop pop sensibility.
- 4:59Speaker 1: Slave to the I think is way more metal, like
- 5:02Speaker 1: for sure, like for sure, so so. But but the
- 5:06Speaker 1: first record, skid Row, it captures a real innocence about
- 5:12Speaker 1: us as a band and about the times nineteen eighty nine.
- 5:17Speaker 1: It just has a real innocent quality to it.
- 5:22Speaker 2: Thinking about the time lot ninety ninety nine when it
- 5:24Speaker 2: came out, brother like that album did put Skied Draw
- 5:27Speaker 2: on the map, But what was the musical quiment like
- 5:29Speaker 2: back then that gave birth to that album?
- 5:31Speaker 3: And where did you fit in.
- 5:34Speaker 1: U that came out? Right? When guns n' Roses was huge,
- 5:39Speaker 1: bon Jovi was huge, but really when we put that
- 5:44Speaker 1: album out, guns n' Roses was huge. Like before that album,
- 5:50Speaker 1: we all used to tease our hair up, like you know,
- 5:53Speaker 1: like the band Rathchild from the UK, you know, Nicky six,
- 5:58Speaker 1: like backcombing her hair, springing it up and putting on
- 6:02Speaker 1: tons of makeup. And then when guns n' Roses came out,
- 6:06Speaker 1: that ship was over. That was not cool anymore. And
- 6:09Speaker 1: I and I remember the first photo session that we
- 6:12Speaker 1: did as skid Row. We had huge poofy hair and makeup,
- 6:17Speaker 1: and when we looked at the pictures we go, we can't,
- 6:20Speaker 1: we can't do this anymore. It's like stupid. It's like,
- 6:24Speaker 1: I mean, I I still like all that glam stuff,
- 6:27Speaker 1: but but when guns n' Roses came out, everything became
- 6:31Speaker 1: like dirtier, you know, more more street level and not
- 6:37Speaker 1: so glamorous and Hollywood. It was more like, you know,
- 6:43Speaker 1: down and dirty like a C. D C or Rose
- 6:46Speaker 1: Tattoo or you know down in dirty tattoo rock and roll.
- 6:52Speaker 3: Rock.
- 6:54Speaker 2: The songs went from sort of all poppy, poppy rocky
- 6:57Speaker 2: metal to metal on slide with the Girl. There's any
- 7:00Speaker 2: two difference between those albums, So there was a pretty
- 7:03Speaker 2: massive shift in sand Like a lot of bands would
- 7:05Speaker 2: have stuck with the original one and just recycled the
- 7:08Speaker 2: first album because it worked, but you guys went out
- 7:10Speaker 2: and Limon went hotter and heavy.
- 7:12Speaker 1: Why well, we we sensed what was going on around
- 7:17Speaker 1: us and people were getting tired of pop metal at
- 7:26Speaker 1: that point, Like there was so many bands that kind
- 7:28Speaker 1: of were the same, and we didn't want to be
- 7:33Speaker 1: the same as all the other bands, and we were.
- 7:36Speaker 1: We were also very like I was very young recording
- 7:42Speaker 1: the first record. I was like nineteen or twenty making
- 7:45Speaker 1: that album, and then you know, twenty one or twenty two,
- 7:49Speaker 1: we're out to prove that we weren't just like a
- 7:51Speaker 1: ballad band. Because I Remember You especially I Remember You
- 7:56Speaker 1: was was a huge massive song. I have a gold
- 8:00Speaker 1: single from Australia for I Remember You, just the song,
- 8:06Speaker 1: and so we wanted to be like tough dudes. We
- 8:11Speaker 1: didn't want to be like, oh there's there's the ballad band,
- 8:15Speaker 1: so we're like fuck that shit. So we're gonna make
- 8:19Speaker 1: a metal album and that's what we did.
- 8:23Speaker 2: So you said, you've also gotta be playing songs from
- 8:27Speaker 2: your solo career, including last Ye's Childhood in the Mad album.
- 8:30Speaker 2: So yeah, that was your first album in ten years
- 8:33Speaker 2: since Give Him Hell came out in twenty fourteen.
- 8:35Speaker 3: So was it received as well as you expected?
- 8:38Speaker 1: Yes, the song what Do I Got to Lose was
- 8:42Speaker 1: a minor radio hit here in America, which I didn't
- 8:46Speaker 1: think was possible anymore. In fact, the record company raining
- 8:52Speaker 1: Phoenix Music called me, I'll never forget this when the
- 8:57Speaker 1: album came out. They go, Sebastian, your song what Do
- 9:01Speaker 1: I Got to Lose is the number one most added
- 9:04Speaker 1: song on FM radio in America this week, and I go,
- 9:09Speaker 1: you got You gotta be kidding me because I didn't think.
- 9:12Speaker 1: I didn't know if I could ever get a song
- 9:15Speaker 1: on the radio again, and so for me, that is
- 9:20Speaker 1: a very big accomplishment and that lets me know I
- 9:25Speaker 1: can do that again, even like if I just did
- 9:27Speaker 1: it so I mean that that was I never thought
- 9:31Speaker 1: I would get on the radio. Oh again, so that
- 9:34Speaker 1: was really cool. And that video is now almost two
- 9:37Speaker 1: million views, which is great.
- 9:39Speaker 3: Yeah, and you've just done something with Orianthe as well.
- 9:44Speaker 1: Yeah. That's a song called Future of Youth and the
- 9:47Speaker 1: video features Oriante from Adelaide, Australia. It also features my daughter,
- 9:55Speaker 1: and it's about, you know, the future of youth. And
- 9:58Speaker 1: I'm very concerned about this planet and how we're not
- 10:03Speaker 1: taking care of it. And I you know, it's so
- 10:06Speaker 1: fucking hot outside. It's one hundred and twenty degrees today
- 10:10Speaker 1: here or something like that, and I just worry about
- 10:14Speaker 1: the future of youth. I wonder what this planet's going
- 10:18Speaker 1: to be like when I'm gone, what we're leaving behind
- 10:23Speaker 1: for our kids. So not to be too heavy there,
- 10:26Speaker 1: but that's what the song's about. Me.
- 10:28Speaker 2: And you probably got nine to ten year old daughters,
- 10:30Speaker 2: and I'll never used to worry you about stuff like that,
- 10:32Speaker 2: but these days you find yourself care and don't.
- 10:34Speaker 1: You absolutely well. I mean I see the news, you know,
- 10:38Speaker 1: I see the floods that you guys have down in Australia.
- 10:41Speaker 1: They're like flood of the whole city, and you know,
- 10:45Speaker 1: here it's like so hot you can't even go outside,
- 10:49Speaker 1: and I just get scared about this planet Earth. We
- 10:53Speaker 1: only have one planet to live on as of now.
- 11:01Speaker 2: Essentially, bruh, you've been performing for forty years. How's your
- 11:05Speaker 2: role as a vitalist change over that time? But the
- 11:07Speaker 2: music industry now is so different to what it was
- 11:09Speaker 2: when you started.
- 11:12Speaker 1: It sure is. Yesterday I had a businessman reaching out
- 11:18Speaker 1: to me about licensing my voice and name for AI
- 11:24Speaker 1: so anybody could use my voice to make music. And
- 11:27Speaker 1: I'm like, fuck that shit. And then everybody's like, dude,
- 11:31Speaker 1: that's the way it is now. No, but like you
- 11:34Speaker 1: either are gonna be a part of it or somebody
- 11:37Speaker 1: else is going to just take it. And I'm like,
- 11:42Speaker 1: I don't want any of you to have my voice.
- 11:45Speaker 1: That's mine. But they're like, oh, they can make it
- 11:51Speaker 1: and it'll sound better than ever. I go, shut the
- 11:54Speaker 1: fuck up. I'm the one that makes it sound. The
- 11:57Speaker 1: computer's not going to make me sound better. Stop it.
- 12:02Speaker 1: But I don't even know what I'm talking about. I
- 12:03Speaker 1: don't even know what I don't even know AI. Fucking
- 12:08Speaker 1: I'm just into I'm not into.
- 12:10Speaker 3: A I can't even spell a I made. I'm that
- 12:13Speaker 3: bad at it.
- 12:16Speaker 1: Well, right now I'm looking at this screen. It's got
- 12:19Speaker 1: a picture of me, it's got you, And then underneath
- 12:21Speaker 1: it says read AI meeting notes.
- 12:24Speaker 3: What the what is that?
- 12:25Speaker 2: That that transcribes it automatically for me at the end,
- 12:28Speaker 2: so that I don't have to spend an hour going
- 12:30Speaker 2: through and transcribing everything.
- 12:32Speaker 1: Oh okay, that's that's me being lazy. Okay, Well that's
- 12:37Speaker 1: not too bad.
- 12:38Speaker 2: The use of the yeah, I won't use it for
- 12:40Speaker 2: too much else, bere saves me about an hour every interview.
- 12:43Speaker 3: I mean that there right on? Yeah? Where else to be? God?
- 12:49Speaker 2: So you didn't mention your voice before, bro, Like, one
- 12:51Speaker 2: thing I've been reading about every show you've done lately
- 12:54Speaker 2: is how powerful your voice is and how good it's sounding. Right,
- 12:58Speaker 2: do you personally still feel like it's coming out right?
- 13:02Speaker 1: It's knock on wood. I got no problems with him.
- 13:05Speaker 1: I don't I don't even like I don't want to
- 13:07Speaker 1: jinx myself. But but I'm fifty seven years old and
- 13:12Speaker 1: I have a whole technique vocally to get my voice going,
- 13:18Speaker 1: and it's worked for thirty five forty years now. And
- 13:23Speaker 1: it's just scales, and you know, you have to sing
- 13:26Speaker 1: every day properly, like like, if you go too hard,
- 13:32Speaker 1: you're gonna you're gonna find it difficult to come back.
- 13:37Speaker 1: Like I got to sing a song like eighteen Life,
- 13:40Speaker 1: which is very kind of gentle, but then a song
- 13:44Speaker 1: like monkey Business, which is the opposite of gentle, and
- 13:50Speaker 1: so I have to I have to be conscious of
- 13:53Speaker 1: not going too hard. That's the thing.
- 13:57Speaker 3: Do you have to like in the setlist?
- 13:58Speaker 2: You have to structure this song so your voice eases
- 14:01Speaker 2: into the heaviest stuff, or could you just go from
- 14:03Speaker 2: one to the other.
- 14:07Speaker 1: No, I got to do a song like eighteen of
- 14:09Speaker 1: Life near the beginning of the set because the more
- 14:13Speaker 1: I scream, the harder it is to go back to
- 14:16Speaker 1: the gentle screeen singing. So I have to schedule the
- 14:20Speaker 1: songs in a certain way. I don't do eighteen of
- 14:24Speaker 1: Life at the end of the show, like I do
- 14:29Speaker 1: a song like You's Gone Wild at the end, where
- 14:30Speaker 1: I could let it rip, you know, and then I
- 14:33Speaker 1: got all night to heal up.
- 14:39Speaker 3: But CEO, I fucking do that.
- 14:42Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't.
- 14:46Speaker 2: Best of all, thanks right up to your talk. I'd
- 14:47Speaker 2: always a pleasure speaking with you. The tour kicks off
- 14:49Speaker 2: on November twenty first in Perth, Freemantle over that start
- 14:53Speaker 2: of the world and every time I've seen you in
- 14:55Speaker 2: the past, you've been sensational.
- 14:56Speaker 3: Brace I'm looking forward to catching you in Brisbane.
- 14:59Speaker 1: Well, I'm in good sh Jape. I've been doing my
- 15:01Speaker 1: hot yoga. My voice is feeling great. I'm quite a
- 15:06Speaker 1: bit actually, trimmer than I was last time I was
- 15:10Speaker 1: in Australia, so I'm really working out all the time.
- 15:15Speaker 1: Ready Rock, I can't wait to come back to Australia.
- 15:19Speaker 1: I love Australia. I always have. It reminds me of Canada,
- 15:23Speaker 1: where I grew up. We're both British colonies. We both
- 15:27Speaker 1: like HP sauce on everything, fish and chips with salt
- 15:33Speaker 1: and vinegar. Yeah yeah, yeah. So like I always feel
- 15:39Speaker 1: like I'm in a beautiful part of Canada when I'm
- 15:43Speaker 1: in Australia. But you guys have way better weather obviously,
- 15:48Speaker 1: so I just I always feel kind of like, like,
- 15:52Speaker 1: you know, like I felt when I was a kid.
- 15:54Speaker 1: I don't know what it is, but Australia feels like
- 15:57Speaker 1: home to me. I don't know why, but it does.
