Transcript
- 0:00The following program is produced by the Tech Talk Radio Network. Hey, good
- 0:04by the science guy here whatever. I am listening to the radio, especially
- 0:08tech talk Radio. It's just at a party. Welcome to another episode of
- 0:16tech Talk Radio. I'm Andy Taylor. I'm shying to weird man. I'm
- 0:20Matt Jones. It's good to see you, Matt. It's been a while.
- 0:22It's been a really interesting start to twenty twenty four. Lots going on
- 0:27in a short amount of time, and I've decided this decade kind of sucks.
- 0:32Sorry to hear that. I'm laughing with you. I'll take it.
- 0:37Three weeks ago, it was like seven twenty five or something in the morning
- 0:42on Friday, and we're right off like the main drag of our neighborhood,
- 0:48and my wife has her jeep parked out front because her ceramics kill and lives
- 0:53in the garage, and we hear this loud bang. Now, the guy
- 0:56who lives kind of patty corner to us, he works on cars and stuff
- 1:00a lot, so I was like, oh, maybe it's just working on
- 1:03that trailer he's been renovating kind of early. Oh cool, Get up,
- 1:06walk into the master bath, which looks out onto the road, look down
- 1:10and notice my wife's jeep, which had been parked under the street light,
- 1:14was now parked on the sidewalk. Uh oh, there were cones all around
- 1:18it. And it was like the great start of the weekend. And being
- 1:19like, honey, get up, I think your car's totaled. We go
- 1:25out front and this now. The other thing to know about where I live
- 1:27in the neighborhood is I live directly right where the school zone ends. Like
- 1:33there is a crosswalk for the school at the end of my block and the
- 1:37school starts at eight am, so like this was kids are in the crosswalk,
- 1:41things like that. According to our nest doorbell shout out to Nest,
- 1:45this lady came flying down the street, all gas, no breaks, and
- 1:49just plows directly into the back left corner of my wife's jeep. All caught
- 1:53on the ring doorbell, all caught on the ring doorbell. Amazing technology in
- 1:59it. State Troopers sitting there, we're watching it together, and it was
- 2:01one where you're like, uh huh uh huh, yeah there it is.
- 2:06Oh the grima's face, yeah, she like And the thing for how hard
- 2:10this car got hit. It moved about one and a half car links forward
- 2:15and to the right. It was a jeep Renegade with a heavyweight roof rack
- 2:21on it and like a three hundred and fifty pound rooftop ten and this thing
- 2:25just got moved like it was nothing. You know, Thank god your wife
- 2:29was not leaving to go to work or or anything like that, and sitting
- 2:32in it waiting to leave would have been terrible. Oh, that would have
- 2:36been absolutely terrible. Like her response was like very level headed, like I'm
- 2:40sitting there, like I haven't had coffee, I don't even have pants on
- 2:46yet, Like this is not how I wanted to start this, right,
- 2:52But she was like, hey, I'd rather she hit my jeep than somebody
- 2:54else farther down the street or god forbid, she hit a kid. Yeah,
- 2:59Like the the principal from the school came to check on like the accident
- 3:04site to make sure none of her kids were involved in it. And I
- 3:07thought that was awesome. Wow, was a person who hit her or were
- 3:10they injured? Were they I mean hitting that hard Sometimes Just remember, folks,
- 3:15sometimes karma comes for us very very quickly, especially when you don't believe
- 3:19in seatbelts. If you can picture the most Hollywood perfect spiderweb crack right in
- 3:28front of the driver's side where she tried to yeat herself out of the car.
- 3:34Oh my gosh, wow, so't we didn't deal with her because like
- 3:37we were the crash and we're like, oh, it's fine, we'll lie
- 3:39back down. Like I got up like ten fifteen minutes later, and that's
- 3:42when I saw the aftermath. She is apparently okay, some lacerations. Ended
- 3:46up going to the hospital and such determined she was absolutely at fault. But
- 3:52yeah, she's very lucky. Yeah for how bad that could have gone.
- 3:55Now, the big question is does she have insurance? You know what?
- 3:59Some times it works out, well, she had Geico. Oh there you
- 4:02go. They totaled out the entire car. Pretty much everything associated with a
- 4:08car got totaled out. So we are going to be a one car household
- 4:12until you know, fingers crossed car prices come down towards election time like they're
- 4:16want to do. So we're just gonna one car it for a while.
- 4:20You know. My daughter has just gone through us. Her other half was
- 4:27driving her car to go to work he works for Amazon, and making a
- 4:30turn. The cars came together and basically totaled out her car, which she
- 4:35had one more payment on. That's one more payment. That's like the car
- 4:41version of the cop being two weeks from retirement exactly. And she had to
- 4:46I think it's Geico as well. And they ended up paying out fourteen almost
- 4:50fourteen thousand dollars for her vehicle, which wasn't that new. But used vehicles
- 4:57are quite expensive now they're holding their value pretty good, especially hers was a
- 5:01I believe a Honda. She was talking about like what she wants to do
- 5:04when she wants to buy a car. And she's telling me she's online looking
- 5:10at cars on Facebook. And I told her, no, absolutely not,
- 5:16you don't want to do that. I mean, I don't know. But
- 5:20then I talked to somebody else and they told me they bought a car off
- 5:24Facebook, the Facebook groups, and they got a really good deal. But
- 5:28she was talking about buying a car in Utah, that it was a good
- 5:31price. But the problem is she would be buying a sight unseen, would
- 5:35have to go out there, pick up the car, and drive it back.
- 5:39The only trick that I've seen for that that makes it work well is
- 5:46if when you're buying the car, you know I mean, obviously if it's
- 5:48in Utah and you don't live in Utah. That makes it a bit more
- 5:51dofficult. Yeah, but you make it contingent with the buyer, like,
- 5:55hey, I'm gonna buy this, my mechanic has to check it out first.
- 5:59Yeah, and you know, if you got a family mechanic, you
- 6:01know, a grease monkey that you're friends with, are something that they can
- 6:06come check it out and be like yeah, go do go or you know,
- 6:09hey you could, but it's missing this bolt right here and it's going
- 6:12to fall apart in the middle of the highway. That's never good. Yeah,
- 6:15I don't know. You know, I do see a lot of people
- 6:16doing that, going to the Facebook marketplace and they'll take their car and they'll
- 6:21list it there because they're not going to they're definitely not going to get the
- 6:25traded that. Let's face it, you're not going to get a traded So
- 6:29you may end up getting an extra grand two grand, depending on what you're
- 6:32selling. I have a friend of mine that's selling one of his cars on
- 6:35marketplace now, an old Lincoln, and the price was like right around fifty
- 6:41six hundred bucks, and I'm thinking, yeah, you couldn't get that on
- 6:44a trade in but somebody might want to buy it for that price, but
- 6:46I still would be very leary. But your idea of finding a family mechanic,
- 6:50Grieven, why not pay somebody to take a look. Don't use their
- 6:55person, use your own that can go take a look at it and give
- 6:58an honest appraisal. Yeah, just like spend like find a mechanic and be
- 7:01like, listen, you know five hundred bucks, just give this car the
- 7:05once over. Tell me if I'm buying a good deal or a death trap.
- 7:09Yeah. What do you guys think about Carvana? I mean no,
- 7:13no, hard, hard, no, no, even Sean is this if
- 7:16I've heard, it's has been a nightmare experience for anybody that gets a car,
- 7:20they drop it off, things are wrong with it, you get the
- 7:23wrong car. I mean, I've heard all sorts of namer of stories from
- 7:27Carvana. I've never personally known anybody that has done it, but just from
- 7:31seeing stuff on Reddit and just in the news in general, it's just it's
- 7:35been a nightmare fast casual for cars. Yeah. Now, carfax, I
- 7:40think is great. If you can get a car fax on a vehicle,
- 7:44I think that's that's pretty good. I've rarely seen stories. Oh but but
- 7:47Matt is cringing. I've seen stories. I'm not cringing, but go ahead
- 7:53and then i'll tell you what I'm laughing. But I've never really seen stories
- 7:55of people saying, no, my carfaxt said this, but it was something
- 7:58else. I know what I perfects will be accurate. Yeah, and I
- 8:03can tell you why. All right, Well, why is that? In
- 8:05a previous job, I worked for what I jokingly called the least sexy nonprofit
- 8:09no one's ever heard of. Really, what is that? The American Association
- 8:15of Motor Vehicle Administrators And I worked there for six years. And AMVA has
- 8:20been around since nineteen thirty eight. I think every state has a Motor Vehicle
- 8:30administrator a person, and that person is in charge of the statewide mv MVA,
- 8:35whatever your state decides to call it. And those people are amva's clients.
- 8:41Well, AMVA has been responsible for creating license plates, creating driver's licenses,
- 8:46creating the very first driver's test. They were the initial pioneer on US
- 8:52digital driver's licenses and digital IDs, and they had they have a product called
- 9:01nimvidis n m v TIS And I know that because I ran security for it
- 9:07the National Motor Vehicle Titling Information System, and anything that is ever log in
- 9:13for a VIN was saved to NIMVIDIS, and nimvidis is where Carfax for the
- 9:18longest time got their data. So it's going to be accurate. Yeah,
- 9:22it's going to be accurate. But I never had to pay for a car
- 9:26fax while I was there because I just log into the system and function in
- 9:28the VIN. Matt, did you make a nyvidist transaction? Yeah, testing
- 9:33reasons. Yeah, there you go, perfect excuse. Well, I've heard
- 9:35I've heard stories of people, you know, or different agencies might try and
- 9:39sell a vehicle that had been involved in a flood. You know, you
- 9:43had flooding, you had fires recently in California, Might you know, transport
- 9:48it and then try and sell it off. Or if you're buying a car
- 9:50from the East Coast you live on the West coast, you might run into
- 9:54a little more rusting. I've heard that could be an issue. At least
- 9:56with carfacts, you're going to get kind of a real authentic Here's where the
- 10:01car was, Here's how I was driven, Here's how many owners. So
- 10:05I looked up the n n VINOUS website right, and they have a list
- 10:09of here are the websites you should go to to check your car report.
- 10:15Check that VN dot com, CLEARVN dot com. It was just these are
- 10:18ones that are recommended by them to check the status of vehicles. But you're
- 10:22so shout out to AMVA. Hi, guys, I'm not dead, I
- 10:24remember, but you're you're gonna stay one car for now? Would you buy
- 10:30from a dealer? Would you buy from a you know, somebody that's just
- 10:33selling their car. And if anybody's selling you can just send a note to
- 10:35Matt Well. It depends. Because what we were debating doing is we we
- 10:41loved that rooftop tent the one time we got to use it. Yeah I'm
- 10:48not bitter at all, I promise, And it made camping really easy.
- 10:52You know, got there to set up the campsite was literally just unfold the
- 10:56tent, put down the pegs, lock it in place. Done. We
- 11:00had an old roommate who had converted a cargo van to a camper van and
- 11:05we were looking at going to the Facebook marketplace and you know, so many
- 11:11people who did van life through COVID are now trying to unload these things and
- 11:13we're looking at uh, spending the insurance payout, which was very generous,
- 11:18thank you, Geico. UH, and buying one of those camper vans and
- 11:22then you know, go one car for daily driver and then have that.
- 11:28But if we're going to do like an actual car, we'll probably do a
- 11:33dealership. Yeah, yeah, yeah, that makes sense. That makes sense.
- 11:37My daughter ended up buying a car. She did get it from a
- 11:41private party and she didn't have a mechanic look at it, and she got
- 11:45a pretty good deal on it, so she's happy now. But I'm I've
- 11:48always bought. I've always bought from a dealer, sometimes a smaller dealer.
- 11:52When it comes to the car, it's funny because one of the worst cars
- 11:56I ever had it was a I'll tell just say it was a Jaguar XJA
- 12:01twelve. Worst car ever. Was always breaking down and when I finally got
- 12:05rid of it, it was just taking up space. Fuel had been contaminated.
- 12:11So basically I sold it the first person who came up with six hundred
- 12:13bucks, and I had bought it for like twelve grand. And this is
- 12:18years later. You know, I got some use out of it, but
- 12:22it was sold to somebody here in Green Valley An XGJA twelve back back in
- 12:26probably two thousand, I want to say two thousand and eleven, maybe twenty
- 12:31twelve is when I sold it. But yeah, that was just that was
- 12:35an awful car. But it was funny because that car. I bought it
- 12:39from a small dealer that was off Oracle Road in Tucson. And when I
- 12:43decided to look for the car that I'm I now own, I did shopping
- 12:48because it's a special car, and I went looking and I found a dealer
- 12:52that had a different model in Scottsdale. So I thought, okay, let's
- 12:56drive up and go take a look at this car. So I guess,
- 13:00So me and Gloria get in the car and we drive all the way to
- 13:01Scottsdale to take a look at this thing. And the dealer comes out and
- 13:07he says, yeah, I'm sorry, I sold it already, and oh
- 13:09okay, he goes, but I got these other ones you can look at,
- 13:11and he starts walking me around and I'm thinking there's something about this guy,
- 13:16right, And then I told him I said about my worst car experience
- 13:18being the Jaguar, and he goes, he says, oh, you're from
- 13:22Tucson, I used to have a dealership with Tucson. Oh where was that
- 13:26right off Oracle? And I looked at him and I said, you sold
- 13:31me my XHA twelve, the worst car I ever owned. And he looked
- 13:33at me. He goes, oh, yeah, you're the radio guy.
- 13:37And then Gloria Gloria walks up and looks at him and says, oh,
- 13:39you're the I can't even repeat what she said. That sold us that piece
- 13:43of crud. It was great. I didn't end up buying a car from
- 13:50him, but he had moved to relocate it there. I ended up finding
- 13:52it at a Mitsubishi dealer, but it was It was a pretty funny story
- 13:56when he came to running into the going hey, you're that guy. Worst
- 14:01car I ever owned was a I got this in two thousand seven, two
- 14:09thousand, no, two thousand and seven. It was a two thousand BMW
- 14:16three twenty three cis a key word in they're supposed to be And I got
- 14:24it from this little dealership in Fairfax, Virginia, And I mean, uh,
- 14:28that car spent more time in the shop than on the road. So
- 14:35it it definitely falls into like do your due diligence and if you get that
- 14:39that hinky feeling like trust it. There's there's a great Reddit thread I was
- 14:46reading and it was like, what what seems like it's uh an unnecessary expense
- 14:50but never actually is. And the top comment was anything between you and the
- 14:56ground, shoes, chairs, mattress, tires, cars, that is where
- 15:03you spend your money. That makes sense, That makes sense. I remember
- 15:07I don't know what your car would do, but I would hit the brake
- 15:09on mine, you know, to slow down or stop, and the side
- 15:15mirrors would move. It was like there was some electrical thing. It was
- 15:18the first sounds like an electrical fire awaiting to happen exactly. I think it
- 15:22was the first car that Ford, you know, Ford of bought Jaguar.
- 15:26It was the first one that they had produced. The engine was awesome.
- 15:31If I could have taken that engine out and had so much pep. But
- 15:33when you'd hit the gas on that thing, you'd see the gas cage go
- 15:37from like say it was half down to quarter. It got eight miles of
- 15:39the gallon. It was the x J twelve, So it was terrible.
- 15:45Yeah, those that series of Jags. I remember reading about how they were
- 15:50just terrible. Ford bought it and attached the moniker of found on roadside dead
- 16:00slap that right on the jag. It's like everyone's like it's engineering and therefore,
- 16:06Sean, what about you? Sean? What what was your bad experience?
- 16:08Was your worst part? So? My first car was a hand me
- 16:14down for my brother, which my dad had picked up at an estate sale.
- 16:17It was a herd Brown seventy seven Chevy Malibu. The description I'm not
- 16:23doing I will dig a picture and send it to you. Turd brown it.
- 16:27Yeah, it was a hand me down, real drive, three fifty
- 16:32big block. It was an awesome car to drive, Yeah, because real
- 16:37drive in the snow in Michigan. It was a blast drive. Plowed through
- 16:41all the snow banks, all the you know, all the snow drifts and
- 16:42stuff. It was great. Then I moved on from that to my parents
- 16:48ninety eight Ford Windstar. You had a van. Oh yeah, yeah,
- 16:53so I had. I had an Arrowstar. We had we had an arrow
- 16:57Star before my parents had an arrow Star growing That's what we had when I
- 17:00was growing up. My parents sold the van to my brother. My brother
- 17:04went into the Marine Corps. He deployed, didn't take the van with him,
- 17:08sold it back to me. So I drove that. That got me
- 17:11through college. Right. Then I bought a way you went to college and
- 17:17you had to drive a van. Dude, I could pack my whole dorm
- 17:22room in my van. Dude. I love the van, don't get me
- 17:25wrong. It was awesome. I could pack my whole dorm room in one
- 17:29trip in the van. Yeah, fantastic. So then then that blew up
- 17:33little in two thousand and eight, so it was a pretty decent timeframe for
- 17:38that van. And then it blew the head gaskets at three hundred and twenty
- 17:41eight thousand miles. Oh yeah. So then I went to a eighty eight
- 17:48Honda Civic four door, all wheel drive, five speed manual, an amazing
- 17:52car. Yeah, and then the clutch blew out on that. I had
- 17:57a handful of escorts, which my buddy Steve and I swapped transmissions in because
- 18:03I blew up a transmission. Man, I'm trying to think what else I
- 18:06had. I had Ford Ranger for a while, the Danger Ranger, YEP,
- 18:10which I loved. I drove that to California and back when I lived
- 18:12down in California, and then I traded that in for a two thousand Dakota
- 18:18V eight, which was a fantastic truck, trans cooler, the V eight.
- 18:22It could tow twelve thousand pounds. It was learning. I loved it.
- 18:26You kind of needed the trucks for living up there in Michigan and all
- 18:30of that, doesn't you. Yeah, the all wheel drive, the four
- 18:33wheel drive was great. I was able to tow my camper with it,
- 18:38so tony camper's camping all stuff. My Ranger couldn't toe squat right. It
- 18:42was just a little V six. It wasn't good toning. Then in twenty
- 18:49nineteen, I traded in the Dakota for my current twenty seventeen Colorado, which
- 18:56I absolutely love. I love my Colorado. That's my quick history of car.
- 19:00It's kind of funny because you think about it, with all the technology
- 19:03we have in cars today, it's and I've talked to a guy from Sorrow
- 19:07Automotive here and you know we've talked about that that it's different. It is
- 19:12different. You have to you have to go through training a lot more now
- 19:15because you're dealing with you know, the electrical hand handling pretty much everything in
- 19:21the vehicle, and then all your add ons in the vehicle too, So
- 19:23mechanics have to be up to date on some of that stuff. So it's
- 19:26almost like you're taking computer classes as well as, you know, learning how
- 19:30to repair cars and sell cars as well. And did you see it now
- 19:36they're putting some of those add ons behind paywalls. Yes, what are you
- 19:40kidding me? Subscriptions? Oh god, no, yeah. BMW is doing
- 19:44it with seat warmers. Hey, your car might have seat warmers, but
- 19:48you're gonna have to past twelve bucks a month to put seatwarmers on. Oh
- 19:51my gosh, Mercedes Benz is doing it. I saw Audi is doing it
- 19:56with their intelligent smart climb control. So you know, it's like the one
- 20:02where it's like, oh I just want fresh air or I want my feet
- 20:04to be warm. They're like, Nope, that's going to be extra.
- 20:07Otherwise you just could use the dumb thermostat. Wow, that's ridiculous. Well,
- 20:11I mean it make it makes sense. It makes sense from a production
- 20:15standpoint, right, you make one version of the car that has all the
- 20:18bells and whistles, right, and then you just software block things out and
- 20:25sell it as different tiers of software based for your car, So you could
- 20:29have a car with all the features but you're getting the bottom end of the
- 20:33software package. Game. We're unlocked things. Where would you put their credit
- 20:37card slot on your vehicle? Right there in the dashboard your butt. You
- 20:44just sit down, it starts charging your wallet. You you sit down,
- 20:48it's it's NFC right, there's there's more money going in right there. Well,
- 20:53I know, you know, the radios have been a big thing,
- 20:56and uh, I know that if you want to have like navigation, I
- 21:00can understand that might be something that you would be behind a pay wall.
- 21:04But the features like that are normally you spend the money on because it has
- 21:08that, like the seat warmers or you know, the massage massaging backs in
- 21:15the seats. It seems crazy to charge for that, you know people,
- 21:18And the problem is people will still say okay, I'll get it. They
- 21:22just won't say no because they want that, So it becomes the norm,
- 21:25yep, which stinks. I never said my worst car, Well my worst
- 21:29car I said was that. But I also owned a Vega if that tells
- 21:32you anything, But I do I do miss that car. That car it
- 21:36was it was It was created by John Dolorean, the same game, you
- 21:40know, Dolourian And they always said it had a fifty thousand mile life on
- 21:44it. It was buying It's like almost like buying a disposable car because it
- 21:48had the aluminum head gaskets that would warp over time. And I did go
- 21:52through two of them. One of them, though, was a guy rain
- 21:56into it. But either way, yeah, that was a fun car to
- 22:00have. While I love my gtis right, I do very deeply. My
- 22:04first car was a ninety four Chevy Caprice Classic. Hey five point seven liter
- 22:12V eight engine. Ooh, for those listening, don't give that to a
- 22:18teenager. It's a terrible, terrible idea what I'm saying, right, I
- 22:22got the keys handed to me with a three fifty big block. Yeah,
- 22:26that thing would just roast the rear tires. I mean it just I know
- 22:32that from personal experience. I'm just saying. My first ticket from Honey to
- 22:36Beach Police Department came when I popped the clutch and I squealed the tires right
- 22:41in front of a motorcycle officer who pulled me over all and I never forget
- 22:45what he said to me. He looked at me, he said, son
- 22:49in a vega, are you kidding me? The upside of the Caprice driving
- 22:57at night was they were still being you by law enforcement. So people who'd
- 23:02memorize the headlight pattern, cops would just get out of my way. Yeah
- 23:07I'm driving. They'd be like, oh nope, and pull over. And
- 23:08as they see like this seventeen year old zoom in past him, you just
- 23:11see a look on her face, their faces of like, oh come on.
- 23:15There used to be a company called Ugly Duckling Rental, and I remember
- 23:21a couple of times when my car was in the shop or whatnot, I
- 23:23rented from Ugly Duckling and I got an old Malibu which is out near Los
- 23:30Angeles, Malibu County sheriff or Malibu's Sheriff's vehicle, and it was the uh
- 23:37it was a Malibu. And now that I think about it, but that
- 23:40thing adds so much pep. And I always thought, one day, I
- 23:42want to buy myself, you know, one of these cars that get sold
- 23:45at the police auctions. You know, they put them out the pasture after
- 23:48a certain amount of mileage. And I thought that would be so much fun
- 23:52to have. But I've seen people driving around. They got the full They
- 23:56got everything except the top lights on them. They keep them black. And
- 23:59white. They still have the you know, the road thing on the front,
- 24:03the ramming unit or whatever. Yeah, and I'm thinking, well,
- 24:07that's that's taking a little too far, isn't it? Or is it taking
- 24:11it just far? Now? All right, listen, we got to talk
- 24:15about the eclipse which is coming up. We are on a special time because
- 24:18starting up at three o'clock we're gonna be broadcasting the station kgv Y is gonna
- 24:23be broadcasting from a fist the annual event. It's gonna be a lot of
- 24:27fun. So you want to keep it right here. That's why we're on
- 24:30at a different time. But when we come back, we're gonna find out
- 24:32about the eclipse which is happening on Monday. And now Sean is actually gonna
- 24:37be having a lot of fun with that, and that's coming up. By
- 24:40Yeah, I'm Andy Taylor, I'm Matt Jones. Find us on the web
- 24:42at tech talk radio dot com. And now back to tech talk Radio.
- 24:48But I want to overshadow the show. Yeah, oh, aren't you being
- 24:52big creative there? Monday the eighth at three six pm, that's your Indian
- 25:02indianap Yes, Eastern standard time, daily whatever time, Eastern time, three
- 25:08oh six, so six pm full totality in Indianapolis, Indiana. Oh,
- 25:12we're only so we're only getting I think sixty eight percent here in Arizona.
- 25:17Matt, you're in Denver in that area. What are you getting sixty four
- 25:21point nine? Oh? Man, but you're getting one hundred percent shown,
- 25:26one hundred percent totality. Yeah, and it'll be full totality for four and
- 25:32a half minutes I think three minutes and forty seven seconds full totality. Isn't
- 25:36that the length of time that the song totally eclipsed of my heart is.
- 25:41Oh, I'm gonna look that up. That's amazing you say you that?
- 25:45Yeah, just play that during the eclipse. Yeah, I will speak full
- 25:49blast. I should do that. So in twenty seventeen, we were in
- 25:56Indianapolis for the solar total eclipse that happened. Then we had about ninety six
- 26:00percent totality. And I will share those pictures of the Indy so we can
- 26:03put them on the blog, so you'll see the pictures they took from the
- 26:06clip slasher. I'm already kidded out right. I've got the solar filters,
- 26:08I've got the lens, the filters from my lenses from my video camera.
- 26:12So I'm ready to go. I've got the glasses, I'm ready to go.
- 26:15My buddy Steve's got a six inch telescope that he's got kidded out that
- 26:19he's gonna shoot the sun with we We're stoked. We're stoked. We're ready
- 26:25to go. So the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, So if you're in the area
- 26:30the region, right, I will tell you, just come to the Indianapalis
- 26:33Motor Speedway, pay twenty bucks for general admission, hang out wash the eclipse
- 26:38because a lot of people are just gonna try and go somewhere. They're just
- 26:41gonna try to go to a city center. They're gonna try to go to
- 26:42a town and they're they're not gonna find anything because all the hotels are booked.
- 26:48It's gonna be jammed. People are just gonna be driving in multiple hours
- 26:52because they just happened during the last eclipse in twenty seventeen, right, all
- 26:55these towns just got overrun by people coming to watch the clips. Wow.
- 26:59Yeah, so like an influx of solar tourism. So I planned ahead.
- 27:07At the Indiana's Motor Speedway, they have a huge event. It's actually one
- 27:11of NASA's broadcast sites, because they're broadcasting in like San Antonio, Indianapolis,
- 27:18and then somewhere up towards towards Canada somewhere. So I believe that it's correct.
- 27:26Why is this such a big Why is this such a big deal?
- 27:30I mean, they're conspiracy theorists already on the web that are saying, you
- 27:33know, because because some schools have decided we're going to take the day off.
- 27:38So a big event like this, right, it's a cool event,
- 27:42and it's not gonna happen again. I'll have to look up the executive it's
- 27:45not going to happen for like over one hundred years. That crosses the US
- 27:52right, And there's a lot of conspiracy theories out there that because the eclipse
- 27:56of twenty seventeen most of the US right starting from starting from up by Seattle
- 28:02and down, then this one, which is coming from the south over Mexico
- 28:10up north towards New York. They're saying that because they're going to cross in
- 28:15the middle of the country and it's the most longest of coverage across the country
- 28:21from point to point that we've had in thousands and thousands of years, or
- 28:23record you know since the record was taken that there's some astrological event that's gonna
- 28:29happen. So you got people that are freaked out because twenty seventeen across the
- 28:33country, twenty four crossed over and now we're gonna have an X. People
- 28:37are saying avoid being right at the X, Like, don't know, but
- 28:42I will say. So we're camping. We're driving down Sunday morning, camping
- 28:48all day Sunday overnight into Monday. The eclipses at three in the afternoon,
- 28:52We'll pack up a drive home Monday evening. It's gonna be over in like
- 28:56four minutes. It's like, you know, the the whole process take.
- 29:00The whole process starts like you gradually. It's not like, oh, suns
- 29:04out, okay, right, You watch it gradually come over right, and
- 29:10then you get what they call the the the diamond or diamond flair. So
- 29:15as soon as it gets just about ninety nine, you get a huge flash
- 29:21of light off one corner of the sun. They call it the diamond.
- 29:23Oh wow, it's a really cool phenomenon. I've seen it before. I
- 29:27saw eclips back in like the early nineties in grade school. But it's just
- 29:33if you can get to full totality. It's highly recommended because it's just an
- 29:37unreal experience. What are something what are some things you have to think about
- 29:41though, Sean, because you're you're going to try and take photos of this,
- 29:42right, do not do not take pictures of the eclipse with your camera
- 29:48without solar filter on it. You will melt. You will melt your sensor
- 29:53in your camera. Oh okay, all right, and you are literally you
- 29:56are literally okay, you know you have to You have the childhood thing of
- 30:00the magnifying glass. You burned ants, right? Yeah? No started fires
- 30:04that right? Or you started fires with a magnifying glass, right, pitpoint,
- 30:10That's all a lens is. A lens is focusing a beam of light
- 30:12onto your sensor. If you're if you're trying to shoot the clips for four
- 30:15and a half five minutes, you're just shooting the sun and focusing all of
- 30:19that UV right onto your your lens. So you can't destroy your camera if
- 30:26you do it. So buying a filters you don't want you don't want to
- 30:32look, don't want to do that. So find a reputable place that will
- 30:36give you solar glasses. Uh, find solar filters for your cameras, solar
- 30:42paper for your so you can put over UV filters. Just you know,
- 30:47don't be stupid, right, that's just don't go out and the stand of
- 30:48the sun and go I'm staring and then you're blind. So don't you just
- 30:53make the cautions. But it's supposed to be a cool experience. It's supposed
- 30:57to be you know everything, all the bird get quiet and all this stuff
- 31:00so excited to see it. That's that's the creepiest thing during an eclipse,
- 31:06is the whole area goes yeah's silent, lee And I got lucky we weren't
- 31:11at totality for the twenty seventeen eclipse, were we were close to it.
- 31:17We were in Shenandoah National Park, and the whole area just goes, yeah's
- 31:22silent. And if you're in a national forest and all of a sudden everything
- 31:25stops making noise, like the hairs on the back of your neck go up,
- 31:30It's it's awe inspiring and creepy as hell. Well, is that because
- 31:34the animals are wondering what the heck's going on too? You think there's some
- 31:38connection between the animals and the moon phases and they just know something's weird and
- 31:45oh wow, all right, So I mean the Indians thought this was like
- 31:49a sign, right, this was a astro astrologic apocalyptica, remember that?
- 31:55Yeah, I mean yeah, so o boy are records of people thinking this
- 32:00is some sort of yeah, I think about it before we had the internet
- 32:04and we had the news, and you know, they probably thought it was
- 32:06some kind of you know, crazy doom thing that was going on, and
- 32:10that it dis passed in four minutes, it'll be done, so that all.
- 32:15The other thing to think about that in terms of like ancient populations is
- 32:20they also didn't have any of the solar filters and stuff Sean was just talking
- 32:22about, So how many people then were struck down blind? And just imagine
- 32:27being the first guy to look up and see that and being thinking like,
- 32:30ah, that can't be good. Yeah, why am I still seeking the
- 32:32sun when my head? Where's the priest? Yeah? Not good. So
- 32:37the other thing you can do too, right, and this is a cool
- 32:39thing for for grade school kids to do, is make a pinhole pinhole camera.
- 32:45Ah, all right, so you could take a cardboard box a bunch
- 32:46of pinhole in it, point the pinhole to the sky, towards the sun
- 32:52and you can use it as a fake. You can emulate a lens and
- 32:58it'll project the image of the solar eclips onto the back of the cardboard box.
- 33:01Oh that's kind of cool. So you could get that image as it's
- 33:05reaching totality. You can see it on the reflection, you know, you
- 33:07see it just like you just point the box with a pinhole in it and
- 33:10it will spread the beam out of light onto the back of the cardboard box
- 33:15and you'll be able to see the image of the eclipse. Can you get
- 33:19us some of the images that are captured just even from the event too,
- 33:22and we can put them up on our blog out Yeah. I mean,
- 33:27you've got four videographer photographers that are going on the strip. I think we're
- 33:30gonna come up with something. Yeah. The other cool thing with eclipse is
- 33:36that it kind of gets ignored. Is look at the shadows on the ground
- 33:39as it's happening the eclipse. It was like it was last year. I
- 33:45completely forgot that it was happening. Luckily I still had leftover glasses from twenty
- 33:50seventeen. But all of a sudden, I'm like walking around the house and
- 33:52my wife looks at me and she's like, what's up. I was like,
- 33:54the light's wrong. She's like, okay, it's daytime. Are you
- 34:00is this it? Are you finally stroking out? And I was like no,
- 34:02seriously, like the light's wrong. And I went outside and looked on
- 34:07the ground and the light coming through the trees in the backyard. All the
- 34:10light was little crescents instead of your standard just like shadow. I was like,
- 34:15oh no, ran upstairs, found the glasses, ran out, popped
- 34:19them on. I was like, yeah, it's the eclipse is going on.
- 34:22So while enjoy the eclipse, but like, while it's traversing the totality,
- 34:27also look at the shadows on the ground and you'll see it. It's
- 34:30definitely something different. Oh, that's gonna be cool again. It's a trip,
- 34:35right. I saw it in twenty seventeen at ninety eight percent totality and
- 34:37that was awesome. Yeah, to be able to see it at full totality
- 34:40is going to be awesome. That'll be Monday for you. It's just a
- 34:45little after three o'clock for us here. That'll be the noon noon, right,
- 34:51it were three hours. I got to blink in the chat. So
- 34:52andy, if you could put that on the blog. There's a map that'll
- 34:57give you exact times and totality numbers and all that. Sorry for listeners that
- 35:00want to write this down, can you tell us what that is? Again?
- 35:04Here it's called it's Eclipse dash Explorer dot s MCE dot Nasa dot gov.
- 35:12Eclipse Dash Explorer dot Sierra Mike Charlie Echo dot Nasa dog gov. And
- 35:19you go there. You put your your zip code, uh, and it
- 35:22will tell you how much totality you'll get, what time to to to not
- 35:27take a look, but what time to experience that. Yep. Again,
- 35:30that's that's gonna be cool. The dead center of that X is Carbondale,
- 35:36Illinois is apparently the epicenter of the two paths crossing over each other, and
- 35:43it's the dead center of the X. So some weird stuff happens. It's
- 35:46going to be in Carbondale, Illinois. Wasn't that like the setting for Stranger
- 35:51Things carbon Oh? Yeah, it was in the man wearing the Stranger Thing
- 35:57shirt, he is, aren't you what do you do? What are you
- 36:01gonna wear? Sean, We gonna ask you what do you gonna wear to
- 36:04this? Because you're gonna have people dressed up in costumes. Right, I'm
- 36:08gonna wear normal clothes. I don't know. I'm not gonna be like you
- 36:13know the people on the rooftops and Independence Day saying take me, take me,
- 36:19and then they get nuked by the Yeah that was that. That didn't
- 36:22work out too well for them. Uh, that's cool. And there's probably
- 36:25gonna be a lot of coverage online as well. You'll have news. Are
- 36:28there gonna be news cruise there you think? Yeah. So one of my
- 36:31old coworkers from the Fox affiliated they worked at texted me it's like, Hey,
- 36:36they're talking about the solo eclipse. Where should they go? What do
- 36:40you mean where should they go? Like, yeah, they don't know where
- 36:43they should go to see the eclipse. I was like, go to the
- 36:45Indianato's Motor Speedway. It's like five hours from gut Rapids. And they're like,
- 36:49all right, that's what they're doing. There's gonna be a ton There's
- 36:52gonna be tons of media coverage right right. Plus NASA is doing a multi
- 36:55state live broadcast of the eclipse as is happening multi site from the southern part
- 37:01of Texas all the way up into Canada. So I think people should do
- 37:06with. You know, Matt is suggesting everybody go to Carbondale. I don't
- 37:09know how big Carbondale is, but everybody go there see see what's going on
- 37:13there. I'll grab a ticket, I'll go. If something weird happens,
- 37:16it is no worse than the timeline we are currently living in. If I
- 37:20get nuked, I don't have to stay around for the rest of it.
- 37:22Perfect. All right, listen, we're going to take another quick break.
- 37:25We'll come back if you have a question. We've got listener questions. We're
- 37:30gonna go over and I've got a pair of headphones. I gotta show you,
- 37:32guys, the most comfortable headphones I have ever put on my head.
- 37:37I'll tell you more about that when we come back of tech Talk Radio.
- 37:40I'm Andy Taylor, I'm Seana Weird. I'm Matt Jones. Find us on
- 37:44Excet tech Talk Radio. We'll be right back now back to teep talk Radio.
- 37:49So jumping to listener questions, Tricia and Vail shout outs to Colorado.
- 37:53Actually that's been in Arizona. I believe just got to crush my dreams.
- 38:00Tricia in veil not Colorado, asked whatever happened to the defragmentor I remember when
- 38:05I used to have to do that quite often. Is this something I should
- 38:07be doing? Fortunately, Tricia, because I too remember having to defragment my
- 38:14hard drive and not be able to use the computer for hours on end.
- 38:19You are actively doing it. You don't have to choose to do it anymore.
- 38:23Windows incorporated a lot of that to where now it actually does most of
- 38:29that on its own, because they realized it needs to be done to work
- 38:32better. Defragmenting was basically much more prevalent and necessary with old school platter drives,
- 38:40which now we would just call HDD hard disk drives, And what it
- 38:45was doing is moving that data to a different physical location on the disc,
- 38:51so as it's reading, all your documents live in this spot, all your
- 38:54programs live in this spot, so it was consolidating everything where it belonged.
- 39:00Now that we've moved towards SDD solid state drives or the new one NVMe drives,
- 39:07which just look like a little flashtick, defragmenting isn't as necessary because you
- 39:13don't have a physical needle moving to read magnetic data off a metal disc.
- 39:20So please do not worry about defragmenting anymore. Your data is where it's supposed
- 39:24to be. I always had stories too, Matt about defragmenting and if you
- 39:30had larger files like maybe video files. A lot of us have large video
- 39:34files or even audio files or even large you maybe shoot camera raw and you've
- 39:37got these photos that you could actually do damage to some of these files if
- 39:43you're trying to defragment those, you absolutely could. That is why the people
- 39:47that I grew up with, who were you know, dabbling in video audio
- 39:52audio editing, they had it on a separate drive that never got defragged,
- 39:55never got touched. If they were having issues with the drive, move everything
- 40:00off to something else, nuke the drive, move it back over. And
- 40:04you know that was could be considered like a quick and dirty defragmenting because you're
- 40:07fresh writing everything on there. Yeah, defragmenting could be detrimental, all right,
- 40:14So something not to not to be doing. I know Dale in Pond
- 40:16Desert had one. I thought, you know what, this is a good
- 40:20one for you, Sean too. Dale listens to us online. He said
- 40:23he had a large property and he would like to run a camera that would
- 40:28be able to zoom in on the back shed from his house. So I
- 40:31guess he's got a shed on his property and he wants to be able to
- 40:36maybe mount the camera at his home and then zoom in on it. Is
- 40:39there a brand that's good because he without worrying about you know what what you're
- 40:46maybe it's going to be too blurry. Yeah, So I don't know if
- 40:50any security cameras that really offer much zoom outside of the higher end ones like
- 40:58the Ubiquities or the Unify stuff. I know, the Wise stuff can punch
- 41:06in digitally. It'll take the two K and give you a ten ADP image
- 41:09from it, but that's not the best I don't I don't know what he
- 41:17could do if his Wi Fi reaches that far. Nest has their indoor outdoor
- 41:24wireless camera and you could just move it physically closer to that shed. The
- 41:31mound is just basically a big fat magnet with a plastic cover and a dimple
- 41:37on it. Just mount that to like a tree or something and then slap
- 41:39the camera on there. Charge it once a month and you don't have to
- 41:45zoom into it because it's it's there. But it's dependent on if Wi Fi
- 41:49reaches that far. Now sure, and you could recommend the outdoor. Why
- 41:52the why is outdoor cam? Also if at that point right now, one's
- 41:54rated IPv sixty five, so it can be outdoors. I've used it outdoors
- 41:59in pretty severe weather doing comelapses, and that just connects to a base station,
- 42:06so you could extend your base station out to the edge of your house
- 42:08and hopefully it would reach Sean. You did something not long ago too,
- 42:15and I remember this. You took an old smartphone. I think it was
- 42:19an old iPhone or I don't think it was an Android and you had actually
- 42:23set it up where you were able to capture stuff with a smartphone. Could
- 42:28that be something Because some of the smartphones have pretty good zoom capabilities on them,
- 42:32could that also be something? Yeah, I mean yes, But if
- 42:37you're looking to be able to see it in the cloud or capture motion events,
- 42:42right, there's nothing for a phone that would do that right right.
- 42:45If you're looking to stream something from your phone, you can get NDI tools
- 42:52or your phone the NDI app connected to your Wi Fi ndihx will stream at
- 42:58about five to six men for a ten eightp stream, and you could use
- 43:02that to stream all over wherever your WiFi connext to works out pretty well,
- 43:07and then you could pull that in your computer as an NDII source using NDIA
- 43:10tools and view it that way. But you don't have zoom functionality from that,
- 43:15right, I like your idea. Just just move the camera closer to
- 43:19what you want to capture and hopefully the Wi Fi will will work out in
- 43:22that area. Yeah, just without knowing how far the shed is away and
- 43:27stuff like that. But yeah, there are other there are other higher end
- 43:32brands that can do Century mode right where it could set you could set way
- 43:37points because they have pan tilt zoom options, right, so you can set
- 43:42it up to do a century mode where it's like wide shot of the yard,
- 43:45medium shot of the yard. Oh, let's focus on the shed,
- 43:49tight shot, and it'll rotate through a preset set of shots. But you
- 43:52pay a premium for that. Okay, Yeah, that's the whole thing.
- 43:55You pay a premium. The other downside for like if you do like the
- 44:00wiser than Nest cameras, is once you get to certain lower and upper temperature
- 44:06ranges, it is going to affect the battery life the like here and I've
- 44:09got two of them mounted outside here in Denver, and when it was getting
- 44:15you know, sub ten degrees and colder. I'd actually get to notice.
- 44:19It was like, hey, it's so cold, your battery life is going
- 44:21to start suffering. Oh wow, Yeah, I've heard that with the heat
- 44:24as can Like for us in Arizona, the heat can also be an issue
- 44:28as well. Elect For sure. Electrons don't like widely varied temperatures. They
- 44:36tend to start having problems. Yes, thinks slow faster when they're hot.
- 44:40They flow slower when it's cold. So well, I have to show you,
- 44:45guys. I got these in from our friends at Logitech. These are
- 44:52the Zone two Wireless Zone Wireless two headphones. My crons, you mean cookies.
- 45:01They look like macrons. They do, don't they right? But I
- 45:05will tell you these are the most comfortable headphones I have ever put on my
- 45:09head. These are replaceable. They're nice and soft and cushy. They've got
- 45:15a very nice pickup arm that's on these headphones. They connect via Bluetooth or
- 45:22you have a USBC cable connector on the bottom. You can plug it in
- 45:27and it will actually charge then while you're using it, and the sound quality
- 45:30is great. The microphone is four microphone has actually four different microphones that are
- 45:37built into it and it features AI. There's that keyword again, AI to
- 45:42actually isolate the noises, So it will isolate your voice using that AI and
- 45:47remove background. So if you've got a dog bark and a you know,
- 45:52if a kid's crying, you would attend to it. But baby crying or
- 45:54maybe even an ac or some other sounds in the background, it can act
- 46:00using the AI block those out. And if you're doing a like a conference,
- 46:05a zoom call or anything like that, you're gonna get really clear audio.
- 46:09And I've tested it hooking it up. We have Bluetooth to my phone
- 46:13and it was really amazed. But again, yeah, they look like they
- 46:15do look like cookies, you're right shown, but it's they do as soon
- 46:20as you hold up. I was like, they look like BlackBerry mccrons or
- 46:22what. It's well built aluminum construction. You could turn the cups on them
- 46:30pretty easily. And it comes with a nice bag from their friends at Logitech.
- 46:36This will set you back about two hundred and fifty bucks. So do
- 46:39you think you could wear a hat over them? Because Stephanie was asking one
- 46:45of our listeners, Stephanie was asking for a comfortable pair of headphones that would
- 46:49allow them to wear a hat. You know, I know, the actual
- 46:54this part right here, that's the part you got to look for. Is
- 46:58not that thick that actually might work? That? Yeah, it might actually
- 47:02I have a hat over here. Let me hold on, let me get
- 47:05this hat. Let's see how this would work super comfortable. Uh no,
- 47:09no, that that wouldn't Well what about that hat underneath? Oh hat under
- 47:15the headphones? Yeah, that that would work. All right, there we
- 47:22go, There we go. It took me a second, not the smartest
- 47:25man of the world, but yes, that did work out pretty good.
- 47:30So so Stephanie from Sita, I hope I'm somebody. Yes, thank you.
- 47:37Look at the Logitech headphones you know, for her question too, couldn't
- 47:40you also use earbuds? But that you could absolutely use earbuds. Yeah,
- 47:46earbuds would sound pretty good. You could do that too. Uh. And
- 47:50I don't know if you guys saw the story, but Apple is supposedly going
- 47:52to be putting out a lower priced AirPod that will be a lot cheaper than
- 47:58the bax it's going to be coming out or the pro version they're saying AirPods.
- 48:04Airpod's light. So if you're you know, if your budget is affected.
- 48:07That is something you might want to be thinking about as well. Once
- 48:12again, Apple copies Google late in the game. What do you send it
- 48:16for? You're sending it for? Justin this week on the Apple Bash,
- 48:22i worked for them and I bashed them. I've bashed them on the show
- 48:24multiple times. Google release the pixel Buds a series years ago before the pixel
- 48:30Buds pro right, all right, speaking of this Google, Speaking of Google,
- 48:35they've caught some flak recently when it comes to our security and our data.
- 48:39Sean, you had more of that story too about this private privacy is
- 48:43always a big concern on the Internet, right and you you hope that every
- 48:47company has your best interest in mind. That's rarely the case the big ones.
- 48:53Right now, everybody knows, at least most people know incognito mode.
- 48:59That's you can you can search the web and it doesn't track what you're doing.
- 49:04Right about that? Wrong? Oh? Wrong? Wrong? So every
- 49:08most people thought incognito mode means all right, Google, you're not listening.
- 49:13I'm going to google naughty stuff or I'm gonna you know, be promiscuous on
- 49:16the Internet and you're not gonna track anything. Incorrect. The only thing incognito
- 49:21mode does is when you close the browser, it wipes your browser history,
- 49:23clears your cookies, and you know, doesn't let the missus know what you've
- 49:28been doing on the internet or mister or mister yeah or whatever. Yeah.
- 49:34Google still takes all of that data and they serve you ads and they've been
- 49:38keeping all of that data. Well, so okay, let's let's not use
- 49:43it for a salacious type of event. What if I'm shopping for my my
- 49:47other half and I go online and I'm going through different websites trying to find
- 49:52the perfect gift and then I want to clear my path and not you know,
- 49:57so okay, so that way she won't see it. Google, though,
- 50:00even in incognito mode, was actually tracking that and then saying this person
- 50:05shopping, let's feed the mads. Google ad Sense was sitting there going thank
- 50:09you for that. Yeah exactly. Yeah. So there was a lawsuit brought
- 50:14back in twenty twenty and it's finally come to fruition and Google has to pay
- 50:17five billion dollars. Ooh, and it's if you want a piece of the
- 50:22money, you got a file acclaim and I'm sure we'll get info about that.
- 50:28So they are saying that we are going to delete delete. I'm doing
- 50:34air could year because nothing ever really goes away. Yeah, they're sure they're
- 50:38going to delete all that data that they've collected from incognitobook. All right,
- 50:43well, something that's good to know about. If we get more info,
- 50:45will certainly pass that along. Well when we come back, I've got a
- 50:49couple of websites for your kids you might want to check out. We'll tell
- 50:52you about that coming up. I'm Andy Taylor, I'm Shan Weird. I'm
- 50:54mad Jones. You can find us on Facebook at tech Talkers. Will be
- 50:59right back and now back to tech talk Radio. Hey, this is Scott
- 51:02Kelby and you're listening to deck doc Radio. So we're just talking about Google
- 51:07incognito mode anonymity, and I think that's that's a good jumping off point to
- 51:13issue kind of a warning to everyone. There's this lovely website called glassdoor dot
- 51:17com, right, and for years glassdoor was where you know, if you're
- 51:22applying for a job, you check them out on Glassdoor, because they'd have
- 51:24reviews of the company from employees being like, this is what's good, this
- 51:29is what's bad. They could review the CEO, you could just they would
- 51:32talk pay scales, everything like that. But it was entirely anonymous, so
- 51:37there was no real risk like, yeah, you'd have some toxic manager being
- 51:40like we're down to two stars on glassdoor. Everyone pump out good reviews.
- 51:45Well, Glassdoor has decided that it doesn't need to be anonymous anymore, and
- 51:50now they're attaching names to stuff. Oh little good names. But it's the
- 51:54way they did it is shady because they scrounged the Internet for personal information from
- 52:00other websites and applied it to their website. So they went and said,
- 52:04oh, this person, say Matt Jones posted on Glassdoor. They went and
- 52:07saw found your Facebook and found all of your personal information and put it on
- 52:12classdoor. They have no right to do that, right, Well, there's
- 52:15there's they did it two different ways. They did do what Sean talked about,
- 52:20but there's also uh Samuil integration, which is when Samuel is when you
- 52:24go to a website and it's like hey, log in with Google and you
- 52:28click on that, and basically like Glassdoor would reach out to Google and be
- 52:32like, hey, is Johnny lived dangerously Matt Jones? And Google will be
- 52:37like, yeah, I confirm Matt Jones is Johnny lived Dangerously, and then
- 52:40my Google Johnny lived Dangerously, which is not my actual thing. I don't
- 52:45trust any of you would go out to glassdoor and all my reviews would be
- 52:49under that name. So they just went in all the samal data and was
- 52:52like, oh, Johnny lived dangerously, that's Matt Jones. We're Okayip,
- 52:55Wow, there you go. So now you have all these toxic men,
- 53:00all these hr people, and you're like, if you went to a company
- 53:02and trashed it and you're still working there, that's now tied to your name.
- 53:07Wow, that could cause big problems. That can cause so many problems,
- 53:14like we're talking about firing, loss of employment. This is just like
- 53:17a huge lawsuit just waiting to happen. I can hear class action lawyers here
- 53:23in Denver salivating its chance to get at this. Any word on them taking
- 53:29this down or has been challenged in the courts or anything. I haven't heard
- 53:34anything but the fact that they haven't backed off yet. I'm just waiting for
- 53:37them to double down on it. Wow. Not good. All right,
- 53:39that's good to know though. At least if you're thinking you're going to be
- 53:44safe from you know, and be anonymous, you're not always anonymous. All
- 53:46right, here's a website for kids, a password generator for the kids.
- 53:52It's good to get them to learn that not we can teach the kids about
- 53:55security and to learn the password is not a viable password or admin is not
- 54:01or you know, uh, your your middle name. Actually, that could
- 54:06give up too much info, so you might want to have them take a
- 54:08look at Dino pass that's d I N O P A S S. That's
- 54:14a good website for kids to kind of understand passwords and how they work.
- 54:17Also, coding for kids is also pretty good. And we've talked about this
- 54:22before with Justin. You know, he says something he wants to do with
- 54:25his son as well. And I don't know, would you want to introduce
- 54:29coding to your kids? Shun, Yeah, probably. I already bought Max
- 54:32a book called Computer Engineering for Babies. Really yeah, it's a it's a
- 54:37button book that has base basic computer commands, you know, on off and
- 54:42X r X or latch all that type of stuff. Oh that's great,
- 54:46all right. Yeah, So I mean it's being coding is being considered a
- 54:52language for high school or so that's amazing. If you learn a computer language
- 54:57that will count towards your language like French, Spanish or German or whatever.
- 55:00Perfect I was a kid, Yeah, exactly right. All right, here's
- 55:06the website code Moji m o j i dot com again, codemoji dot com
- 55:13and again coding for kids. That's it for this week's Tech Talk Radio.
- 55:15Have yourselves a great week. It's good to see you again, Matt,
- 55:19glad to be back. I'm Andy Taylor. I'm sewn to weird. Hopefully
- 55:21I don't get sucked up by the eclipse. Oh no, I'm Matt Jones.
- 55:25I will let you know if Sean does get sucked up by the eclipse.
- 55:29Thank you. Have a great week.
