- 1:09[SPEAKER_01]: heartbeat babe, this is magical.
- 1:12[SPEAKER_01]: If you told me when I said this podcast, I would have in this conversation, I would have like, what are you talking about?
- 1:19[SPEAKER_01]: So while we normally don't talk a lot about Pilates on this podcast, everything is kind of Pilates to me.
- 1:25[SPEAKER_01]: I have to incredible, humongously, wonderful, brilliant.
- 1:30[SPEAKER_01]: the biggest hearts of the entire world teachers on today's podcast.
- 1:34[SPEAKER_01]: And we are going to talk about friendships and life and having brave conversations and how do you accept an invitation to make an impact about something that is bigger than you.
- 1:46[SPEAKER_01]: And this is really wonderful conversation.
- 1:50[SPEAKER_01]: And so Maria Earl and Brooke Siler are our guest today.
- 1:53[SPEAKER_01]: And we are talking about the Plani's body book.
- 1:58[SPEAKER_01]: I can't believe I'm pinching myself that I just thought can happen.
- 2:00[SPEAKER_01]: I can't believe but I can't believe I just got off like two hour chat with these wonderful women.
- 2:05[SPEAKER_01]: What is my life?
- 2:05[SPEAKER_01]: So anyways, I can't wait for hear this and I do think it is a honest conversation about bodies and women and the things we go through.
- 2:12[SPEAKER_01]: And I hope you love it and that you send it to a friend who needs to hear it.
- 2:16[SPEAKER_01]: And you know, you tell us all about your favorite parts of it.
- 2:19[SPEAKER_01]: Are there?
- 2:20[SPEAKER_01]: All right, be it babe.
- 2:21[SPEAKER_01]: We have like a dynamic duo.
- 2:23[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not going to lie.
- 2:24[SPEAKER_01]: I also totally screwed something up when hitting everything ready because I was so nervous and so excited because I'm obsessed with both these women.
- 2:30[SPEAKER_01]: I get to fangirl over them to their faces, which is very fun for me.
- 2:33[SPEAKER_01]: So Marie and I got to officially meet in in Seoul, Korea, but I had been following Maria Earl for a long time and just watching just like so graceful and so amazing and just wonderful everything she does and I'm just like, I'm not graceful at all.
- 2:47[SPEAKER_01]: But I just absolutely adored her and I love like I've spent time with her in Soul Korean, so I feel like we'll always have a night and soul together, and then Brooke's Isler.
- 2:55[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, so I went to, you know, I know this about me Brooke, but I actually went to Pilates class kind of kicking and screaming.
- 3:02[SPEAKER_01]: I thought up that class was like a bunch of BS workout.
- 3:04[SPEAKER_01]: I told the girls an info commercial workout.
- 3:06[SPEAKER_01]: It can't do what it claims, but I need a friend.
- 3:09[SPEAKER_01]: So I went to the class and I was obsessed because of obsessed with the class.
- 3:13[SPEAKER_01]: I was like, oh, it was the most amazing thing I've ever done on my entire life.
- 3:16[SPEAKER_01]: And I worked at South Coast Plaza, and I went to the bookstore, and I went to the fitness section, and I bought the collise book that was there.
- 3:24[SPEAKER_01]: Does your book?
- 3:26[SPEAKER_01]: I took it home, and I did every exercise, like, in the book house.
- 3:31[SPEAKER_01]: I started going to play every single day, and you had a second book, and I bought that.
- 3:36[SPEAKER_01]: When I was on the treadmill, walking, like I was lifted, I was obsessed.
- 3:41[SPEAKER_01]: And then some, I moved out land, someone's like,
- 3:44[SPEAKER_01]: my applies instructor and like kind of you know the internet and social media wasn't really a thing then and then fast forward to I believe it was January of 2020 you were in LA and I was like I have to go to this workshop she doesn't know I'm so obsessed with her and I went to the workshop and you taught an exercise
- 4:02[SPEAKER_01]: a certain way that I had been teaching it that way.
- 4:04[SPEAKER_01]: And I had no one had taught it to me like that, but I had just figured out like, and I pull straps, I want my inner thighs up because it helps me get my butt on, helps me all these things.
- 4:12[SPEAKER_01]: And you said it and I was like, oh my god, I'm so validated right now.
- 4:16[SPEAKER_01]: So anyways, I decided to tell you that because like I, you like, even though I knew it was great, I just like needed someone like you to say it.
- 4:24[SPEAKER_01]: I was like, this is amazing.
- 4:25[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, let me back up.
- 4:27[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, a little back up.
- 4:28[SPEAKER_01]: So anyways, you've been part of my, like, beta, I see it as a Pilates person, my whole life and you, and like, vote at least 20 years and, and you didn't know it.
- 4:35[SPEAKER_01]: But now I get to have the two of you on the beta, you see a podcast.
- 4:38[SPEAKER_01]: So we'll start with Brooke.
- 4:40[SPEAKER_01]: Brooke, can you tell everyone who you are and what you rock at?
- 4:42[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, well, first of all, thank you so much for having us be us.
- 4:47[SPEAKER_02]: But I, yeah, really excited to, to even have a conversation.
- 4:52[SPEAKER_02]: I love being in a room with smart women.
- 4:53[SPEAKER_02]: There's nothing better, really.
- 4:54[SPEAKER_02]: So my name is Brooke Scyler.
- 4:56[SPEAKER_02]: As Leslie has already told you, I am an author.
- 4:59[SPEAKER_02]: I'm a teacher.
- 4:59[SPEAKER_02]: I started teaching in 1994 and then in 2000, I wrote the Pilates body.
- 5:04[SPEAKER_02]: And it's been that fantastic 15 minutes of fame that has just
- 5:09[SPEAKER_02]: gone on and on and on for me, I just am super blessed, super grateful.
- 5:15[SPEAKER_02]: And yeah, I think that's the why I am.
- 5:20[SPEAKER_01]: Oh my god.
- 5:21[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah, then there's, I mean, like, when you have to like distill yourself down into a nutshell, it is, but it is absolutely, we'll have to get into the 15 minutes of fame that keeps on giving, you know, for decades.
- 5:31[SPEAKER_01]: Maria Earl, what do you rock at, babe?
- 5:34[SPEAKER_03]: Hi, also, thank you for putting this together.
- 5:37[SPEAKER_03]: It's fun to be here with you too.
- 5:41[SPEAKER_03]: So my name is Maria Earl and I am a Pilates educator and have been teaching Pilates since 1990.
- 5:51[SPEAKER_03]: seven, walked into the first bloody studio a few years before that and just never stopped.
- 5:59[SPEAKER_03]: Anyway, I'm based in Barcelona, Spain and prior to that, I lived in New York City and had a bloody studio for about eight years on the upper east side of Manhattan and took a big leap of faith and moved abroad.
- 6:14[SPEAKER_03]: About 15 years ago, which, oh,
- 6:19[SPEAKER_01]: It's funny when you put a number to it, but I know I know I feel really young and I realize how long I've been doing something.
- 6:26[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like, oh, I mean, I'm still young, but also we ageed in there.
- 6:31[SPEAKER_03]: So yeah, I have a lot of studio here and I run postgraduate teacher training courses and online things and, you know, trying to live in the best life basically.
- 6:44[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, do the best you can like do the whole balancing they all tell us to do you like balance, get a book, the balance of work and life and you know you've kids to write Maria.
- 6:54[SPEAKER_03]: I have one.
- 6:59[SPEAKER_01]: Like, for having a new year, yeah, this one.
- 7:03[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 7:04[SPEAKER_01]: Oh my gosh.
- 7:05[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 7:05[SPEAKER_01]: Well, so I guess we can go, you know, we can go anywhere we want, but I actually would love to hear how the two of you got connected, because part of me who goes like, did you know each other in New York?
- 7:17[SPEAKER_01]: And the other part of me is like, so jealous when I hear that you've been doing plies since the 90s, like I would wonder my life would have been like, had I learned it sooner?
- 7:23[SPEAKER_01]: I
- 7:24[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I was going to tell us 90s.
- 7:28[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, golden age.
- 7:30[SPEAKER_02]: It really was.
- 7:31[SPEAKER_02]: It really was a guy.
- 7:32[SPEAKER_02]: It really was.
- 7:33[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it was a golden age.
- 7:35[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 7:35[SPEAKER_02]: Gladies.
- 7:36[SPEAKER_02]: We didn't know.
- 7:37[SPEAKER_02]: It was me.
- 7:38[SPEAKER_02]: I feel like Marie and I maybe have orphaned each other because we, we seem to have been in a lot of the same places at the same times, but we didn't actually meet each other.
- 7:48[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, until just 20, what did we determine it was?
- 7:52[SPEAKER_02]: 20, 20, 19, in 19, instead.
- 7:56[SPEAKER_02]: And it was our solo enough.
- 7:58[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I came over to teach a workshop at a studio there, and Maria was there, and she was Maria.
- 8:05[SPEAKER_02]: And it was her birthday, and I was like, oh, loud American, how my gosh, in Spain.
- 8:12[SPEAKER_02]: In this little studio.
- 8:13[SPEAKER_02]: And yeah, we just kind of got to chat in, but we didn't do much after that, did we?
- 8:19[SPEAKER_02]: For a while.
- 8:20[SPEAKER_03]: We talked, I think we talked a few times because we know we allowed to say this about you living abroad already.
- 8:28[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I live abroad.
- 8:29[SPEAKER_03]: That's not a, that's not a, no, not a secret.
- 8:31[SPEAKER_02]: Now I live in the UK.
- 8:33[SPEAKER_01]: Um, so yeah, I wasn't a lesson.
- 8:36[SPEAKER_01]: What if Burke is like, don't tell anyone I live in the UK?
- 8:41[SPEAKER_02]: I'm like, I'm, I'm the witness protection program, but I didn't have the witness protection program.
- 8:46[SPEAKER_03]: I was like, I don't know, you know, I'm not gonna.
- 8:48[SPEAKER_03]: Anyway, so yeah, I think that's exactly.
- 8:52[SPEAKER_03]: I think we connected.
- 8:53[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, not only do we connect over.
- 8:56[SPEAKER_03]: You know, Pilates or whatnot, but I think there was like a real like, wait, you live in the UK and you were like, wait, you live here now.
- 9:05[SPEAKER_03]: We were both kind of like, well, what are you doing?
- 9:08[SPEAKER_03]: Well, and so there was, I think, you know, I remember a number of phone calls where we were talking about, you know, the challenge, the challenge of, you know, uprooting your life and
- 9:23[SPEAKER_03]: in later year and later years.
- 9:26[SPEAKER_03]: You know, I mean, I didn't move here with children, but broke moved with children and basically.
- 9:32[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, mine weren't 9 and 11.
- 9:34[SPEAKER_03]: What we must, you know, she needed to start running right from the get go.
- 9:37[SPEAKER_03]: She knew that.
- 9:39[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, the things together, right?
- 9:40[SPEAKER_03]: I, I moved here as a single person going, well, I love you.
- 9:44[SPEAKER_03]: This is great.
- 9:45[SPEAKER_03]: This is fun.
- 9:46[SPEAKER_03]: And then, you know, sort of built my life, deciding like, oh, I'm really going to stay here.
- 9:51[SPEAKER_03]: And I'm going to make a life here for myself.
- 9:54[SPEAKER_03]: And, you know, have never looked back.
- 9:59[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 10:00[SPEAKER_01]: I think that's so, I think this is so interesting.
- 10:02[SPEAKER_01]: Like, because we have a lot of people right in, like, how do you make friends when you're older?
- 10:04[SPEAKER_01]: Like, I've moved.
- 10:05[SPEAKER_01]: And I think like, that was the problem.
- 10:07[SPEAKER_01]: I obviously shared experiences, like, you go somewhere,
- 10:13[SPEAKER_01]: something both are interested in but then you you connect on another level like I think that's the important part of like having a friendship like you have to it can't just be like oh we just go to pull ice glass together like there has to be this other shared thing and it's like oh we're both expats and we both had to like
- 10:28[SPEAKER_01]: start a whole new life somewhere.
- 10:29[SPEAKER_01]: And I'd imagine Brooke that it's quite challenging to do that with two kids.
- 10:32[SPEAKER_01]: Like I imagine like because you would already written the book by then, the original applies by the book.
- 10:37[SPEAKER_01]: And then you move.
- 10:38[SPEAKER_01]: And so then you're like, you have a whole life.
- 10:40[SPEAKER_01]: You look the best telling author.
- 10:42[SPEAKER_01]: And then you're like, a mom trying to get to your kids and just go.
- 10:44[SPEAKER_01]: That was a whole, actually, that was the whole point.
- 10:47[SPEAKER_02]: Was I had been kind of this, the Pilates body author.
- 10:52[SPEAKER_02]: since 29 years old, 30 years old, right?
- 10:55[SPEAKER_02]: So I was like, and I started Pilates in 26 years old.
- 10:59[SPEAKER_02]: So here I was 46 or something.
- 11:01[SPEAKER_02]: I was like, who am I without this?
- 11:03[SPEAKER_02]: Like, half my life has been this.
- 11:05[SPEAKER_02]: Can I just be a mom?
- 11:07[SPEAKER_02]: So when I moved here, I came with my husband's name.
- 11:10[SPEAKER_02]: Like, I was like, I'm not going to stay silent.
- 11:11[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not going to tell anyone I do Pilates.
- 11:13[SPEAKER_02]: My stuff was in the garage.
- 11:15[SPEAKER_02]: Like, I am going to be mom.
- 11:16[SPEAKER_02]: And that's what I can't or mom.
- 11:18[SPEAKER_02]: And that's what I was going to do.
- 11:20[SPEAKER_02]: I think it's totally do not have English accents, but yeah, that's what I was going to do.
- 11:25[SPEAKER_02]: So I joined the PTA, because I'm a person.
- 11:29[SPEAKER_02]: And I, yeah, I made like, you know, we went to the pub and did the pub quizzes and did all that stuff.
- 11:34[SPEAKER_02]: While the kids were in school, I was mama.
- 11:36[SPEAKER_02]: And of course, then what did I end up doing?
- 11:38[SPEAKER_02]: Teaching the teachers, Pilates, for free.
- 11:41[SPEAKER_02]: I was like, hey, let me come and give you guys Pilates because you, like, like, how do you do this with kids?
- 11:45[SPEAKER_02]: That is so challenging.
- 11:47[SPEAKER_02]: Let me do something for you.
- 11:48[SPEAKER_02]: So I came and started teaching every Friday giving them Pilates session.
- 11:53[SPEAKER_02]: I can't get away from it, like until you are.
- 11:56[SPEAKER_02]: If you're a teacher and if your art is Pilates, like, you know, I feel like my vocation is teacher and my medium is Pilates, you know?
- 12:07[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I understand that.
- 12:09[SPEAKER_01]: I think like we were all going to teach something.
- 12:11[SPEAKER_01]: Something that happened that we, you know, someone probably told all of us that we should become a teacher and we're like, okay.
- 12:17[SPEAKER_01]: I'll do that thing.
- 12:18[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 12:20[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 12:21[SPEAKER_02]: Pull me back in.
- 12:22[SPEAKER_02]: And it wasn't till lockdown.
- 12:23[SPEAKER_02]: That's when Marie and I really came together.
- 12:27[SPEAKER_02]: And that's when, yeah, my whole body's world opened right back up again.
- 12:31[SPEAKER_01]: Interesting.
- 12:32[SPEAKER_01]: So like, yeah.
- 12:33[SPEAKER_01]: Did you guys, because, I mean, obviously we've heard like, I think it was Esther Pro, was like the, the COVID was like the Greg accelerator.
- 12:38[SPEAKER_01]: Like, if you were going to do something, it was going to, you were going to do it.
- 12:41[SPEAKER_01]: It was going to be faster.
- 12:42[SPEAKER_01]: So we were going to, like,
- 12:42[SPEAKER_01]: Like if you're gonna bring up with someone, you broke up with them faster.
- 12:45[SPEAKER_01]: If you were like Brad and I, we picked up our life and moved as well and I did it three years earlier than we thought we have our cut and and so like, was that the great accelerator for your friendship?
- 12:55[SPEAKER_01]: Was it a way that you guys got deeper because there was not as many distractions?
- 12:58[SPEAKER_01]: How did that go?
- 13:00[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 13:00[SPEAKER_03]: What do you think about that?
- 13:01[SPEAKER_03]: I think so.
- 13:02[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, I so agree with the great accelerator.
- 13:05[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, I always think about, I mean for our friendship for sure,
- 13:12[SPEAKER_03]: You know, stepping into stepping into newness in terms of professionally stepping into things that otherwise, you know, it was the kind of the kick in the ass that I needed for a number of things that I'm totally happy to talk about.
- 13:26[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, that's not about it because we were like a little women's group.
- 13:31[SPEAKER_02]: There was four of us.
- 13:32[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, okay, well, I obviously went to happens of women's group stays on women's group, but like if there was something we can talk about from women's group, I would love to because I think this is where this is where a lot of women, I find our listeners are, they can get really lonely or they want community and they seek community, but then, you know, someone doesn't show up to something and it gets easy to take it personally.
- 13:52[SPEAKER_01]: Like how did you guys have a women's group?
- 13:54[SPEAKER_01]: And what did you just talk about?
- 13:58[SPEAKER_02]: It was, it was a movement.
- 14:00[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, we were working out together is what it was like two times a week.
- 14:03[SPEAKER_02]: We were working out together and I'll do it a lot.
- 14:07[SPEAKER_03]: I'm chatting afterwards.
- 14:09[SPEAKER_03]: Talk about like, yes.
- 14:11[SPEAKER_03]: You're mourning aside.
- 14:13[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, yeah, like any clients until after 12.
- 14:19[SPEAKER_03]: There is just, there's just too much that needs to.
- 14:23[SPEAKER_02]: Everything, you know, everything that was happening in COVID that was so amplified was happening around us and so we would sometimes, you know, we'd get on the we'd go to work out, but someone had had a morning something had happened someone had seen something and and we would, you know, tears and sharing and yeah, we yeah, the all things happened.
- 14:44[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 14:45[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and it was an unlikely, like none of us really knew each other new each other before.
- 14:51[SPEAKER_02]: And yeah, we're an interesting force them actually.
- 14:54[SPEAKER_01]: I love, but I love it because it's like, I think, you know, you said side of the time, and it just evolved naturally, but also like when women do get together and they're, and they share that and they can be vulnerable.
- 15:04[SPEAKER_01]: you know they say like you know movement is how like we like trauma can leave the body we can heal the body like it's so important I have a yoga class that I go to and the first human is our kind of somebody bitching about something and then we get into the yoga and then by the time the yoga's over whatever that was like moved out of all of us and then and then you can wrap up the conversation if you if somebody needs to and I sometimes kind of wish it went an hour longer you know I can imagine what a wonderful way to like a very therapeutic
- 15:34[SPEAKER_02]: There's the physical workout and the emotional workout, right?
- 15:38[SPEAKER_02]: They both kind of have been joined.
- 15:40[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I'm when you just, when you just commit to it, you just lock into it and that just becomes your non-negotiable.
- 15:47[SPEAKER_03]: That's right, like that's just, that's just what I do on Tuesday, the Thursday morning.
- 15:52[SPEAKER_03]: It's like, yeah, sometimes things would come up, but,
- 15:56[SPEAKER_02]: we committed to one another, to ourselves and to one another.
- 16:00[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 16:01[SPEAKER_01]: And that's like, so, okay, this is the hard part, right?
- 16:03[SPEAKER_01]: Because, like, we're all teachers here, and like, we have the clients who, like, you know, they want to come through times a week, and then they, and then they book, you know, this coffee day in this thing.
- 16:11[SPEAKER_01]: And then we have the teachers who also say they want these things or the women who are, like, not necessarily teachers, because this is not most of the people don't even do.
- 16:18[SPEAKER_01]: It wasn't as bad as the people like their they want this, but it is a commitment like it is an actual like you are not just coming to say them Thursday mornings and tell noon, but you're making sure everyone in your life knows about it so that it's right things do come up, but they're kind of rare because there's rarely like an actual emergency that can't be done on another day like there's you know, so how did you guys like how did you did you tell like Mary you have a kid did you tell your one kid and
- 16:44[SPEAKER_01]: Brooke, I'm assuming your kids are a little older now, but where are they aware that like, hey, leave me alone.
- 16:50[SPEAKER_01]: This is my private time.
- 16:51[SPEAKER_01]: How did you get the commitment to be something you could come to without the pressures of like all the guilt of all being a mom?
- 16:58[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know.
- 16:58[SPEAKER_03]: I blocked it out.
- 16:59[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I need to.
- 17:02[SPEAKER_03]: What guilt?
- 17:03[SPEAKER_03]: That was our time.
- 17:05[SPEAKER_03]: No, no, I don't know.
- 17:07[SPEAKER_03]: And it's funny because I actually, I
- 17:10[SPEAKER_03]: also we have boys.
- 17:12[SPEAKER_03]: I feel like that needs bed.
- 17:15[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, maybe.
- 17:16[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, you know, it could have been messy.
- 17:18[SPEAKER_03]: Like I don't know, but I know that it was time not only well spent obviously, but it was time that was so important to me, that
- 17:36[SPEAKER_03]: I just, I figured out how to make it work and you know, maybe sometimes I can only log in for a little while or you know, sometimes I say like, I gotta, I gotta go, I gotta go, you know, I just, I want to, I want to, I want to check in, I want to say that I love you and like, I, but like I have all this going on, I, that's it, that's all I got for you and they're like,
- 18:00[SPEAKER_01]: You know, but I mean, just that little bit of like, you got this, you know, well, and all that sounds so it sounds a little bit like one, you know, you needed it for yourself and like you did that and they were like on a project about that.
- 18:14[SPEAKER_01]: And then too, you found the right people that would understand if you couldn't and they wouldn't take it personally and they wouldn't hold it against you.
- 18:22[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that's where a lot of people have screwed up when their groups of their friendships
- 18:30[SPEAKER_01]: And you know, like aren't good at voicing what they need or or even knowing what they need.
- 18:35[SPEAKER_01]: So then it gets muddled and it becomes an uncomfortable situation.
- 18:39[SPEAKER_02]: I'm wondering now, if maybe what worked in our favorite was that we weren't friends before hand, really, we solidified their friendship, but actually we grew the friendship and locked down.
- 18:51[SPEAKER_02]: So we were learning about each other, so there's not only the interest in showing up to move, but we were also interested, I think, you know, in each other and one another.
- 18:58[SPEAKER_02]: And each one of us had
- 19:00[SPEAKER_02]: So many amazing things happened to us, you know, Alicia started a podcast and current, like, set up her studio and, you know, read a book, uh, oh, yeah, I bought my studio, I bought her studio, I mean, we were there for, for all these things, you know, and we could share, like, hey, what do you guys think?
- 19:18[SPEAKER_02]: And each one of us still has a different kind of forte, and, oh, we just, at the feel like the universe just kind of made that all happen.
- 19:26[SPEAKER_02]: So yeah.
- 19:27[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, but I'll do, as the Terric, it really was, yeah, to meant to be.
- 19:31[SPEAKER_02]: And we, yeah, I think it became that like,
- 19:35[SPEAKER_02]: that became rock.
- 19:36[SPEAKER_02]: You do.
- 19:37[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, for sure.
- 19:38[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 19:39[SPEAKER_01]: And then, I mean, like life, the world is open, have you been able to keep the Tuesday and Thursday together?
- 19:44[SPEAKER_01]: Like, you guys still, I mean, it's different.
- 19:48[SPEAKER_02]: It's shapeshifted.
- 19:49[SPEAKER_02]: It's not the same.
- 19:51[SPEAKER_02]: It's for like the, yes, the world is open.
- 19:54[SPEAKER_02]: There's so many other things going on.
- 19:55[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, listen, I had to write a book just to see Maria again.
- 20:01[SPEAKER_02]: I think that, there was that moment of like, yeah, after having written the book, I was then like, oh, someone actually has to be the model in this.
- 20:13[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, and I just, it was immediate.
- 20:16[SPEAKER_02]: It wasn't even like a second.
- 20:17[SPEAKER_02]: I didn't even have a second choice.
- 20:19[SPEAKER_02]: Like, had she said, no, I was screwed.
- 20:22[SPEAKER_01]: So, ah.
- 20:22[SPEAKER_01]: So, so work.
- 20:23[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, of course everyone's like, hold on.
- 20:25[SPEAKER_01]: We have so many questions about this like, we're going to move on guys because we all have some of the time, but like, if you Brook Silers name does not ring a bell from the Polaris body book, but that we, you know, I've literally moved with every apartment it ever moved with me and into this house and it didn't even go into a closet is like, it's on the shelf.
- 20:43[SPEAKER_01]: You know, because I can get represents like the time when I was like, I was, I believe so much that people can have an independent applies practice and because I was like, but this book gave me that.
- 20:54[SPEAKER_01]: Like I was able to have an independent Pilates practice.
- 20:57[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that like that's so necessary for the world we all live in today to have, you know, to have an applies in our life, whether you're a teacher or not, you need to have some way of doing it.
- 21:08[SPEAKER_01]: So I was trying to look it up before we started talking,
- 21:13[SPEAKER_02]: I started writing it in 1999 and it was published in 2000.
- 21:18[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, so that's, wow, so it's 25 years.
- 21:21[SPEAKER_01]: So then you're like, I'm gonna write it again.
- 21:25[SPEAKER_02]: I guess no, I would like, we should celebrate 25 years, and I still have people coming and saying, oh my god, my career started because of Plotty, because of Plotty's body, and that was the first book I ever had.
- 21:36[SPEAKER_02]: And I've heard that for 25 years, and it felt like definitely, you know, the Plotty's is bigger now than ever, and I was like, how amazing would
- 21:49[SPEAKER_02]: My literary agent and she was like, yes, love the idea and then we brought it to an editor and they were like, yes, love the idea and they were like, but and I just thought actually I can You know, there's that one copy of the Joe Pilates book words two of his books together.
- 22:04[SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
- 22:05[SPEAKER_02]: But I thought it was going to get off really easy and just combine the first two books and so I said to the editor can we just put the two together and make it this one too.
- 22:13[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, exactly.
- 22:15[SPEAKER_02]: wouldn't that be perfect?
- 22:17[SPEAKER_02]: And then I don't have to do anything.
- 22:19[SPEAKER_02]: And they were like, now you have to put new material in there.
- 22:22[SPEAKER_02]: And I was like, oh, okay.
- 22:24[SPEAKER_02]: So I figured the things that are of interest to me at this time.
- 22:28[SPEAKER_02]: I come doing a lot of deep work on breathing.
- 22:29[SPEAKER_02]: I'm doing a lot of deep work on this vindiculation.
- 22:31[SPEAKER_02]: And that's a whole another.
- 22:33[SPEAKER_02]: topic, but they chose one.
- 22:35[SPEAKER_02]: And that was what I went with.
- 22:37[SPEAKER_02]: And so when I started doing the deep digging, it was, I mean, I had already done the deep digging.
- 22:42[SPEAKER_02]: I should say, but then starting to try to put it into terms that could be easily understood and how to make it blend deeper with Pilates.
- 22:52[SPEAKER_02]: And it was stuff that I was doing that we were doing in art Tuesday.
- 22:55[SPEAKER_02]: Thursdays, you know, I, I always come with ideas and like, hey, guys, let's try this thing I've been playing with.
- 23:01[SPEAKER_02]: And
- 23:03[SPEAKER_02]: generous with me and allowing me to test out all of my crazy ideas on them.
- 23:09[SPEAKER_02]: And yeah, so this one just kept sticking and then I was teaching online classes and people were writing me afterwards going, oh my god, I feel amazing.
- 23:17[SPEAKER_02]: I can't believe what this feels like and I was like, okay, cool.
- 23:20[SPEAKER_02]: So I not only wrote it, but I was like, listen, it's 25 years.
- 23:24[SPEAKER_02]: I'm going to rewrite all the, they didn't give me a budget to do all the photos again.
- 23:28[SPEAKER_02]: So the photos are the same as they were, and the layout is the same, but I'm pretty much rewrote everything.
- 23:35[SPEAKER_02]: Like I updated the language and put in new variations and a lot of our kival, you know, just bringing Joe into it, because lockdown, I dug deep.
- 23:43[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, deep in those, you know, treasure trove and put like instead of looking outside of Pilates, I just went back in.
- 23:51[SPEAKER_02]: I feel like it's that when you go to the dentist, then they used to have the treasure chest, and you could pick a toy.
- 23:56[SPEAKER_02]: It's like it just went, I did a deep dive into the Murray.
- 23:59[SPEAKER_01]: I did a deep dive in and found all your dentists and have a treasure chest because mine did and an aquarium.
- 24:05[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 24:06[UNKNOWN]: and I would go to the rock and fish.
- 24:07[SPEAKER_01]: Go across like I was my favorite.
- 24:07[SPEAKER_01]: Exactly.
- 24:08[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 24:08[SPEAKER_01]: So I just, yeah, I think, you know, I was pulling stuff out and trying stuff and they were loving it.
- 24:10[SPEAKER_01]: And I think, you know, I was pulling stuff out and trying stuff and they were loving it.
- 24:12[SPEAKER_02]: And I think, you know, I was like, I was like, I was like, I was like, I was like, I was like, I was like, I was like, I was like, I was like, I was like, I was like, I was like, I was like, I was like, I was like, I was like, I was like, I was like, I was like, I was like, I was like, I was like, I was like, I was like, I was like, I was like, I was like, I was like, I was like, I was like, I was like, I was like, I was like, I was like, I was like, I was like
- 24:21[SPEAKER_02]: That's the way my mind works.
- 24:22[SPEAKER_02]: I feel like lockdown for me was an incredible like everything shut down out out and my brain just went Absolutely mad creative like it just couldn't stop creating it was it was amazing And so you're listening to this everyone the book is already out like we're talking about this before I've had my hands on a copy And of course, I'm like now Jones ain't even more than I was when you first told me about it, but like
- 24:45[SPEAKER_01]: I do, so, and I'm excited to hear what Maria's response was like to also, you were telling her, I'm going to redo this.
- 24:53[SPEAKER_01]: There is something about like, okay, I think we should celebrate it's going to be easy, but then it's like, okay, great.
- 24:57[SPEAKER_01]: Now, I've get to redo it in the redoing.
- 25:00[SPEAKER_01]: It's like, there's things that you can change because you've had 25 years of teaching on top of it.
- 25:06[SPEAKER_01]: 25 years of testimony.
- 25:08[SPEAKER_01]: 25 years of hearing people say they love this or have questions about this.
- 25:12[SPEAKER_01]: not many people get a redo and in life, you know?
- 25:16[SPEAKER_01]: So Maria when she came to and such as redoing this is there anything that like you were the most excited about that you were like, like what part did you get to explore with her that you were excited to be in the book?
- 25:28[SPEAKER_03]: Well, my, my role is a very tiny, tiny little role.
- 25:33[SPEAKER_03]: No way.
- 25:34[SPEAKER_02]: No way.
- 25:35[SPEAKER_02]: No, you think you're going to say that, let's say.
- 25:37[SPEAKER_03]: Let's just call bullshit on that.
- 25:39[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, that is not true.
- 25:42[SPEAKER_03]: What I mean to say is that basically as Brooke said, right, she had been developing these ideas and had an opportunity to basically add a new section to the book.
- 25:55[SPEAKER_03]: And
- 25:56[SPEAKER_03]: needed, and needed, wanted to have somebody to be the model for that new chapter.
- 26:02[SPEAKER_03]: And I got to be someone who sort of got to be in the behind the scenes, like I got to sort of be in her brain a little bit, while she was, you know, having this explosive sort of creativity moment, you know,
- 26:23[SPEAKER_03]: her process.
- 26:25[SPEAKER_03]: And that was amazing.
- 26:27[SPEAKER_03]: And, you know, I mean, I guess we could joke a little bit about this, Brooke, because she said, she's sort of hinted to it earlier when she said that, you know, she wanted me to do the book, but you know, she was like, if she said no, you know, what was like going to do, right?
- 26:42[SPEAKER_03]: You know, so I think I was like it.
- 26:45[SPEAKER_03]: So it took her a little while because she knew that I might like run for the hills when she's asking me to,
- 26:52[SPEAKER_03]: be the, you know, the model of the body's body.
- 26:56[SPEAKER_02]: Like to be out there.
- 26:58[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 26:58[SPEAKER_03]: I was like, Brooke, um, are you crazy?
- 27:05[SPEAKER_03]: You know, it's like my first reaction.
- 27:07[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 27:08[SPEAKER_03]: So, you know, do you want to do this, you know, before I'm 50 or after I'm 50, you know, I, I, I, I do,
- 27:20[SPEAKER_03]: If you know who you're talking to, right?
- 27:24[SPEAKER_03]: You know, I was like, so is this like a wet in boot camp kind of thing that I need to like get myself like totally like in shape or whatever?
- 27:39[SPEAKER_03]: Whatever that means, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 27:42[SPEAKER_03]: And she was like, no, I want you to just be you.
- 27:48[SPEAKER_03]: and talk about leap of faith, talk about like stepping into like the scary bits and saying, okay, I trust you.
- 28:03[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 28:05[SPEAKER_03]: And I believe in your vision and I want to step into that space,
- 28:18[SPEAKER_03]: Let's celebrate, let's celebrate the body as it is.
- 28:24[SPEAKER_03]: And like, let's give it, oh, another dimension here.
- 28:30[SPEAKER_03]: You know, let's cut through the bullshit of what it means to have a Pilates body.
- 28:39[SPEAKER_03]: And let's reframe that dialogue.
- 28:43[SPEAKER_03]: And no,
- 28:45[SPEAKER_03]: I'm not gonna get photoshopped as much as I, you know, that little one, my head is like, well, couldn't have a lot of conversation.
- 28:56[SPEAKER_03]: Couldn't they just a little, I mean, like, no, right?
- 29:00[SPEAKER_03]: So it's like this like inner dialogue of over months and months, you know?
- 29:05[SPEAKER_03]: And that is powerful and beautiful.
- 29:08[SPEAKER_03]: And I could not have asked for a better,
- 29:13[SPEAKER_03]: partner to do that with and you know a safe space to like be no I'm going to step into this and I'm going to do it big and it's going to be it's going to be yeah and yeah and yeah it feels great to be a part of something that is bigger than me it's bigger it's bigger than the book it's bigger than us together it's bigger than all of it it's it's it's it's about this.
- 29:44[SPEAKER_03]: reframing what what it is to be in our bodies and to embody and to and to celebrate all of the different phases.
- 29:58[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, my size has never defined me.
- 30:02[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 30:02[SPEAKER_03]: And I
- 30:03[SPEAKER_03]: And I have been, you know, I am not the size.
- 30:06[SPEAKER_03]: I was when I was 25.
- 30:08[SPEAKER_01]: No, nor I, and probably not, right?
- 30:11[SPEAKER_01]: I, I, I, I, I, I love that we're going here because I just have to say like, we're recording this two weeks after.
- 30:16[SPEAKER_01]: So my YouTube channel hit 40,000 subscribers, which I'm at the time this is where, and I was so freaking stoked because like I did it without, like,
- 30:24[SPEAKER_01]: putting, I've did it without like doing a, you know, tits and ass workout without like, you know, the fake Pilates, like we'll call it Pilates, but it's just mostly to sit up, like I did it without, like, I did it with like just educational support.
- 30:37[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm so proud of what we did.
- 30:40[SPEAKER_01]: And on the day of the hit 40,000, somebody wrote, your stuff is really great, but you used to be thinner.
- 30:45[SPEAKER_01]: And it was really, the videos are really great when you were thinner, what happened?
- 30:50[SPEAKER_01]: And of course, other stuff like this is not helpful.
- 30:56[SPEAKER_01]: This is why teachers and trainers are afraid to gain weight.
- 30:59[SPEAKER_01]: Like wonderful supportive stuff and to in like my response to this and the person double down.
- 31:04[SPEAKER_01]: So in case we're wondering like, maybe it's a cultural thing like we have a house in Cambodia and people will inquire like, oh, you're bigger or why?
- 31:10[SPEAKER_01]: Because maybe you're rich.
- 31:11[SPEAKER_01]: They want it like, like, you know, like that's kind of in different cultures have different
- 31:15[SPEAKER_01]: experience is so so I was trying to like so in case we thought maybe it's a cultural translation thing no they double down they said it's a calories and calories out she could have better discipline.
- 31:26[SPEAKER_01]: And to it I got pissed off because I don't I don't have the body I had at you know when I discovered when I when Policist covered me I don't want to do like I am first of all I am no longer sick.
- 31:42[SPEAKER_01]: I no longer have digestive issues.
- 31:44[SPEAKER_01]: I now absorb nutrition.
- 31:45[SPEAKER_01]: I also like happen to look all lot better with curves.
- 31:49[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you very much, but I for the record like I told I went online until we were like
- 31:54[SPEAKER_01]: I am the most disciplined person I know.
- 31:57[SPEAKER_01]: I probably do apply more than people, other people do, who have different bodies to me.
- 32:01[SPEAKER_01]: You can on half that for the comments on my channel.
- 32:04[SPEAKER_01]: This is wrong for so many reasons.
- 32:06[SPEAKER_01]: I hope you have space and grace for yourself and others when your body is changed because they will.
- 32:09[SPEAKER_01]: And I really appreciate you sharing that journey Maria about your body too.
- 32:16[SPEAKER_01]: I think so many teachers and so many women are afraid to put themselves out there whatever their thing is.
- 32:22[SPEAKER_01]: We can even switch Pilates to being an author, being a speaker, or being a doctor.
- 32:26[SPEAKER_01]: Like every woman is so afraid, well, I don't look like whatever ex is supposed to look like.
- 32:32[SPEAKER_01]: And so people are going to judge me.
- 32:33[SPEAKER_01]: And then because they don't put themselves out there because they're afraid they'll be judged, then the only people that are out there,
- 32:41[SPEAKER_01]: And so of course, like, so then people think that's what it is.
- 32:52[SPEAKER_01]: And so then we have this whole This kind of standing it's real is it's a really good.
- 32:59[SPEAKER_02]: It's a, yeah, it is dysmorphia and it's a really sad commentary and it's, and you know, I'm, I don't, let me get started on a patriarchy because I will, okay, but yeah, you know, it's, it's this, it's not only an unrealistic ideal, but like, who's even the one coming up with that shit?
- 33:15[SPEAKER_02]: It's just ridiculous.
- 33:16[SPEAKER_02]: And, and the thing is we've all bought into it at some stage in our lives and certainly it's something that, you know, it can be in so many different levels, but Marie and I were talking about this too.
- 33:25[SPEAKER_02]: There was plenty of times like even.
- 33:28[SPEAKER_02]: You know, you'd want to photoshop this or there's the cellulite there and there's the whole thing and in the end of the day We're wiser than we've ever been in our lives.
- 33:36[SPEAKER_02]: We are more powerful in our own ways that we've ever been in our lives We can move Beautifully and at our this age in our lives.
- 33:43[SPEAKER_02]: I started taking tennis last year.
- 33:45[SPEAKER_02]: I go three times a week
- 33:46[SPEAKER_02]: One, I've never, in my life, played tennis, I started at 56.
- 33:49[SPEAKER_02]: You have to love that.
- 33:50[SPEAKER_02]: And like, fuck it, I don't care if my thighs are thicker, that I'm like really enjoying what I can do in this body.
- 33:58[SPEAKER_02]: And that's what a body's body always was.
- 34:00[SPEAKER_02]: I did even look back in 2000 when I wrote the book.
- 34:05[SPEAKER_02]: If you go through the three models at the beginning, there is a passage at the afterwards.
- 34:09[SPEAKER_02]: It says, I chose these three models
- 34:13[SPEAKER_02]: cause of their teachers, because their teachers, their ability to do the actual movements and endure the long photo shoots of the day, they happened to work for me.
- 34:24[SPEAKER_02]: So that was very easy.
- 34:25[SPEAKER_02]: They were there.
- 34:26[SPEAKER_02]: I didn't do like a whatever they call that a model call.
- 34:29[SPEAKER_02]: They worked for me.
- 34:31[SPEAKER_02]: So it was perfect.
- 34:31[SPEAKER_02]: They were amazing teachers who were had mountain dance backgrounds, so they were strong as shit.
- 34:37[SPEAKER_02]: And they were beautiful, and I wrote, I hope in earnest that they inspire and don't intimidate.
- 34:43[SPEAKER_02]: And I wrote that in 2000, because for me, I already knew it's not about having a skinny,
- 34:49[SPEAKER_02]: You know, body, a particular type of body, it was just they were there to model the work and I knew they could do it and these are long days of shooting so with Maria I knew her I knew her work because we we've been working out together for years and I could see her power and what she could do with her body and I thought
- 35:08[SPEAKER_02]: actually in the way she moved coming from Kathy Grant, which is this beautiful way of moving different than what I experienced from Ramana.
- 35:15[SPEAKER_02]: So, I loved it and I thought it fits so perfectly and it was very much about, you know, it's got a lot of Maria in it too, which is this beautiful
- 35:25[SPEAKER_02]: You know, soul.
- 35:26[SPEAKER_02]: It's about sensing internally.
- 35:27[SPEAKER_02]: And so it's, it's a kind of, it's a really nice, I think flip.
- 35:31[SPEAKER_02]: It's not that the work.
- 35:32[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, she killed it.
- 35:34[SPEAKER_02]: I will say, and I'm just going to admit this.
- 35:36[SPEAKER_02]: I knew she was going to do an amazing job.
- 35:38[SPEAKER_02]: I really.
- 35:40[SPEAKER_02]: I can't actually believe how incredible she was.
- 35:44[SPEAKER_02]: Really, and I say this all the time to her, because she killed that she was a superstar rock star.
- 35:51[SPEAKER_02]: Like if she couldn't get the thing, she was like, save it, we'll do it again at the end.
- 35:55[SPEAKER_02]: Like she just, there was determination, like nothing I've ever seen.
- 35:58[SPEAKER_02]: It was a very long day of shooting.
- 36:01[SPEAKER_02]: And it was like, yeah, I was like, wow, that was really the right choice.
- 36:06[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I knew it was the right choice for the beginning.
- 36:08[SPEAKER_02]: It was a no choice choice.
- 36:10[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 36:10[SPEAKER_02]: She was a no choice.
- 36:11[SPEAKER_02]: It was just going to be her or it was going to be no one.
- 36:14[SPEAKER_02]: And thank God she took a day.
- 36:16[SPEAKER_02]: I think it was like a day, right, when I asked you.
- 36:18[SPEAKER_02]: And then like the next day she was like, right, because I remember saying to my husband, like, if she didn't do it, like, I needed to be her.
- 36:25[SPEAKER_02]: It's just her.
- 36:26[SPEAKER_02]: It just was her.
- 36:27[SPEAKER_02]: It was like meant to be you.
- 36:29[SPEAKER_02]: So.
- 36:32[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but I, and Maria, first of all, like I don't, I, you, there's something about you that's just so magical that you could even I don't even know I don't know if I could take the day I probably would've been like I'm fucking scared and you know, but you know, like I don't, but what did you think about what did you did you journal like what did you, what, how did you, how did you contemplate the decision because you're correct.
- 36:54[SPEAKER_01]: It's hard to find the words for it.
- 36:55[SPEAKER_01]: It is going to be bigger than
- 36:57[SPEAKER_01]: this book is any bigger because because the book was already bigger than Brooke already and so and so and and also I just was like I love that there I love that that's the height of Pilates being so popular this book is coming out again because I do think it brings some authenticity to the work that we're doing so what did you do during the day to like come to the decision we all want to know how you got to play yes well I think I think definitely it was the
- 37:27[SPEAKER_03]: You know, and, and I knew in my heart that I, that I had to say, yes, I knew that it would be a major regret if I let fear and, you know, like the little, the little may sayers, you know, you shouldn't be doing that or what business do you have, you know, nobody wants to see, you know, you, I knew that all those little voices.
- 37:56[SPEAKER_03]: that I ultimately would regret letting them win.
- 38:03[SPEAKER_03]: So I knew that I had to say yes.
- 38:07[SPEAKER_03]: And then basically I had to work backwards from the yes to convince myself that I was okay.
- 38:16[SPEAKER_03]: And luckily I got good people in my corner.
- 38:26[SPEAKER_03]: Oh god, oh god, what have I done?
- 38:28[SPEAKER_03]: I'm not ready for that.
- 38:29[SPEAKER_03]: Wait, I need that camp.
- 38:31[SPEAKER_03]: You know, I maybe if I did lose, you know, the 20 pounds that I've gained, you know, in the past 10 years, Perry Menopause is kicking my ass.
- 38:40[SPEAKER_03]: You know, what if I maybe I could, oh god, like whenever I would sort of hit those high rev panic moments, you know, I just have to go to broke.
- 38:52[SPEAKER_03]: And whoever else was where my rocks, you know?
- 38:57[SPEAKER_03]: And you know, while I'm like circling, you know, and I can't land, right?
- 39:03[SPEAKER_03]: And they would be like, it's okay, we got you.
- 39:06[SPEAKER_03]: This is gonna be amazing.
- 39:07[SPEAKER_03]: This is, in that, and I think believing the people, that's right.
- 39:13[SPEAKER_02]: that see you, like you almost have to see yourself through others eyes, like it was no doubt in my mind that you were perfect, perfect, but I, that's, you know, you had to go through your process to get there and I had to respect that, but yes, I was going to tell you how amazing and beautiful and stay as you are and like think about how many people get to look and say,
- 39:42[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I mean, because it's important, it's about it's about really stepping into stepping into that space.
- 39:48[SPEAKER_03]: And that in stepping into that space is really scary, but I show up that way from my clients every day.
- 39:54[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, but I don't necessarily show up from myself in that way.
- 39:58[SPEAKER_03]: And that is something that I don't like to admit.
- 40:01[SPEAKER_03]: So I am admitting it here, and I'm admitting it now.
- 40:05[SPEAKER_03]: But you won't ever hear me say it again.
- 40:07[SPEAKER_03]: No, I'm joking.
- 40:08[SPEAKER_03]: I'm just saying maybe now I'll be able to say it more often, which is like, I fall into the same body traps.
- 40:17[SPEAKER_03]: You know, even though I I will with my clients and with the teachers who I work with and you know my friends I like show up with body positivity and you are beautiful and you are powerful and I don't let's not worry about the you know the extra little curvy there like let's get strong let's get moving because it's about the moving and it's about feeling strong feeling great in your body it's not about how your body looks I do that for people all day long.
- 40:47[SPEAKER_03]: And then when it comes to myself, it's like, even you know, I know, I know, I know, you know, right?
- 40:52[SPEAKER_03]: And it's like eating you up inside.
- 40:54[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 40:54[SPEAKER_03]: And so the process, the process is it's not overnight.
- 40:59[SPEAKER_03]: It's like a long term term thing.
- 41:02[SPEAKER_03]: And you know, the book's going to come out, and I'm probably going to hide under my covers for every day.
- 41:08[SPEAKER_01]: A few minutes, and then we're all going to drag you out.
- 41:10[SPEAKER_01]: They really love that.
- 41:12[SPEAKER_02]: We're coming in after you for sure.
- 41:14[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to text you the day after it comes out to make sure that you're you know like I I appreciate and that you said those things because it's true like I think we all here like we're all that for our clients like they bodies change themselves like hold mama reframing that
- 41:31[SPEAKER_01]: And in the process of loving the body that I'm growing into and you know there is all the things because we were erased in as our brain was developing we were raised with the five minutes of tone here the this here like I was in modeling and of course like I was like working out all the time and you guys went out at a commercial agent and a modeling agent on the same day the modeling agent said you're not thin enough and my commercial agent said you're getting too skinny.
- 41:59[SPEAKER_01]: And I was like, I don't actually know what to do tonight.
- 42:07[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know what to do today because I'm now not hireable in commercials according to you, but I'm not hireable enough because the modeling agency want to be a fitness model, but I wasn't toned enough to be a fitness model.
- 42:21[SPEAKER_01]: But I wasn't skinny enough to be a model model.
- 42:25[SPEAKER_01]: And so here's what I did.
- 42:28[SPEAKER_01]: You guys my agents were across this street from a phone at, which is if you've ever been to LA, it's a non-fried, gluten-free donut shop.
- 42:37[SPEAKER_01]: It's only gonna happen in LAX.
- 42:40[SPEAKER_01]: I fucking went to the donut shop.
- 42:42[SPEAKER_01]: I was like, fuck it.
- 42:43[SPEAKER_01]: I don't even know what to do.
- 42:46[SPEAKER_01]: And I consciously eating my feelings right now.
- 42:49[SPEAKER_01]: I'm an adult enough to understand.
- 42:50[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not an therapy session around this, but I was just like, no one is gonna be happy.
- 42:55[SPEAKER_01]: And that is what I like sat on this bus stop with my donut.
- 43:01[SPEAKER_01]: And I remember like, no one's gonna be happy.
- 43:03[SPEAKER_01]: And I told my husband, I said, I think I'm gonna let go of the agents.
- 43:07[SPEAKER_01]: And I don't know what that means because I wasn't like I wasn't a dream of my, but I was also like, I can't like, I can't handle these people and my own thoughts like I own my own thoughts of like my body changing and who I'm becoming and trying to it could healthier and absorb be vitamins, you know, anything to live on this planet like
- 43:31[SPEAKER_01]: and also have outside people tell me things like so I that was that was when I actually like go of but I will say like because we all go through that we can be very body positive and still have these things about ourselves and I I think it's hard to admit but it's also like it's it's it's just honest and it's a process because I do think that in people fun a little bit their bodies and seeing different bodies doing these strong exercises
- 43:58[SPEAKER_01]: they're still going to have their own thoughts to themselves.
- 44:01[SPEAKER_01]: I can't do that.
- 44:02[SPEAKER_01]: That's not what my body like all the and we have to go you're going to have all those thoughts and you're still invited to this party because like we should have always been moving for the health of it and not for the shape of it and I don't know when we stop working out for the shape of it.
- 44:18[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know when that stops but I do appreciate your honesty there, Maria and I think it's I think I'm excited
- 44:28[SPEAKER_03]: And also I would say I would say something about to sort of bring a couple threads through that in that deep dive that Brooke did like really looking into the archival work and looking at, you know, the pictures that Joe took doing his mat work like we sat with the book.
- 44:53[SPEAKER_03]: you know, during the photoshoot, like we sat with the book.
- 44:56[SPEAKER_03]: And we were like, how is he doing this?
- 45:00[SPEAKER_03]: As opposed to a no, no, zero shade, but different than looking at a manual or the gorgeous models that were in book one,
- 45:13[SPEAKER_03]: Right, that we're all contemporary or badly dancers who were making shapes beautiful shapes that were in very much influenced by the anaesthetic that comes from dance.
- 45:29[SPEAKER_03]: So, you know, Mr. Pilates Swan is not a full extension with fingertips facing the ceiling.
- 45:37[SPEAKER_03]: Right, but we have that in our manual as like that's what the spawn dive is supposed to look like, right, and so we we bought into an aesthetic that doesn't necessarily.
- 45:52[SPEAKER_03]: Really, it's not, it's just that.
- 45:55[SPEAKER_03]: It's just the aesthetic.
- 45:57[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 45:58[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, you read it.
- 45:59[SPEAKER_02]: That's right.
- 45:59[SPEAKER_02]: It's an even serve the body in the same way that when you realize what Joe was asking, and I always kind of joke about this, how many times I looked at those pictures in the book before lockdown, you know, for years before because Ramana had them on her walls and all of that.
- 46:15[SPEAKER_02]: And in my mind, he was not in great form.
- 46:20[SPEAKER_02]: not matching what I was being told.
- 46:22[SPEAKER_02]: So like he needs to do this.
- 46:24[SPEAKER_02]: He needs to soften his needs.
- 46:25[SPEAKER_02]: He needs to end then when I started really and I've read those books a lot of times.
- 46:30[SPEAKER_02]: I mean honestly before lockdown I had already they were dog-yared and highlighted in every color anyway.
- 46:36[SPEAKER_02]: But then I went back in and you know every time you reread something you read it with new eyes.
- 46:40[SPEAKER_02]: You'd be
- 46:41[SPEAKER_02]: because it's where you are, you need it.
- 46:42[SPEAKER_02]: It needs you where you are in that moment.
- 46:44[SPEAKER_02]: And it met in this place that was so perfect because I really read it.
- 46:49[SPEAKER_02]: I really, I heard it, I saw it and I thought, let me try what he's actually saying, because I had not done that, I just blind faith went with what I knew of from my teacher, of course, who, you know, but again, no shade there either, like fantastic, it got me so far.
- 47:10[SPEAKER_02]: Joe's words and his vision and his, you know, he wanted to help us really be in our bodies and move better during the day.
- 47:19[SPEAKER_02]: So when we did it that way, when we really got into the nitty gritty of what he was asking and then the feeling like Maria was saying after the photo shoot that she was like, oh my god, feel incredible.
- 47:32[SPEAKER_02]: Like, she's not exhausted and not, I mean, maybe exhausted from the energy of it,
- 47:39[SPEAKER_02]: the feeling in the body is a good feeling, as opposed to trying to punish the body.
- 47:45[SPEAKER_03]: Exactly.
- 47:46[SPEAKER_03]: I was not fighting myself doing the exercises.
- 47:50[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 47:51[SPEAKER_03]: I think that's really, I think there's really something to that.
- 47:55[SPEAKER_03]: You know, that you're not in a battle against you and the exercise or you and the shape, and you trying to get into the shape, be the shape.
- 48:04[SPEAKER_03]: And you'll see, you'll see the pictures.
- 48:08[SPEAKER_03]: It's not rocket science.
- 48:10[SPEAKER_03]: It's not anything incredibly incredible.
- 48:15[SPEAKER_03]: It's actually paired down.
- 48:17[SPEAKER_03]: It's actually not performative.
- 48:21[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 48:23[SPEAKER_03]: And therefore it's it's it's going to resonate at a different level.
- 48:29[SPEAKER_02]: And for some people, they're going to be like, it's just that I said, there's going to be people who just rip the new chapter off and throw it away.
- 48:37[SPEAKER_03]: Like they're going to be like, well, that was what is that doesn't matter, you know, but if you're ready for it.
- 48:49[SPEAKER_03]: And and and do the do the work as they say, yeah, right, then you're going to be like, oh, this is this is there this is different.
- 49:01[SPEAKER_03]: This feels different.
- 49:03[SPEAKER_03]: This is this is me being in my body in a different way.
- 49:08[SPEAKER_03]: It's in my body in my way as opposed to in somebody else's way where I'm trying to, you know,
- 49:18[SPEAKER_03]: do that.
- 49:21[SPEAKER_03]: That's happening down there at the end of the long.
- 49:23[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 49:24[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 49:24[SPEAKER_02]: It's a very internal chapter in its own way.
- 49:28[SPEAKER_02]: You can you can enjoy it for the beautiful photos, but really what's happening inside Maria in it is what's really it's about.
- 49:37[SPEAKER_02]: And it's you know,
- 49:39[SPEAKER_02]: It will be a new thing that people can take or leave, but it's really a deep, and then I combined it with this natural thing called Pindigulation, which is what dogs, our pets do all the time.
- 49:53[SPEAKER_02]: You know, this, this.
- 49:54[SPEAKER_02]: lengthening.
- 49:56[SPEAKER_02]: And then when I looked at the archival footage of pictures of Joe and the videos, I was like, wait, that's what he's doing.
- 50:03[SPEAKER_02]: And that's what he was saying.
- 50:04[SPEAKER_02]: Natural law of need, how we move, watch the animals.
- 50:09[SPEAKER_01]: I was like, you know, it was ppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppp
- 50:19[SPEAKER_01]: But by the time you're, you know, this comes out, but I can't wait for that, but I, it's true.
- 50:24[SPEAKER_01]: Like my my dog gets out of bed every morning and he does both stretches right and I like look at that.
- 50:28[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like, I don't, I don't get out of bed and go.
- 50:30[SPEAKER_02]: But he, you know, and he does it 30 or 40 times a day.
- 50:34[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and they do it every time they move because we don't like if you try to stretch your dog, they don't like stretch if you try to pull your dogs leg, they don't like that.
- 50:45[SPEAKER_02]: What doctor's doing, Pindiculation was fascinating.
- 50:48[SPEAKER_02]: And when we do it, when it's basically the word for yon and stretch, it has developed in the 70s.
- 50:53[SPEAKER_02]: But anyway, when you yon and stretch, we think we're stretching, but we're actually contracting.
- 50:59[SPEAKER_02]: So when you do this,
- 51:01[SPEAKER_02]: you're not actually stretching the front, you're contracting the back of you and then releasing and it becomes a signal that's sent to the brain.
- 51:09[SPEAKER_02]: So you actually learn how to regulate your muscle tension.
- 51:13[SPEAKER_02]: It's phenomenal.
- 51:14[SPEAKER_02]: Jody didn't say the word Pindiculation, but he absolutely asked us to do what the animals do and that's what the animals do because it circulates your blood.
- 51:23[SPEAKER_04]: Yes.
- 51:23[SPEAKER_02]: I'm so freaking cool.
- 51:24[SPEAKER_02]: I just can't wait.
- 51:26[SPEAKER_01]: I honestly, you know, I keep watching.
- 51:28[SPEAKER_01]: I said, Brooke, I'm a little gift of like someone like watching the mailbox.
- 51:32[SPEAKER_01]: I'm watching the mailbox.
- 51:33[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like, I don't know, she's like, let's have my copy.
- 51:36[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I'm like, my copy.
- 51:38[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, no.
- 51:39[SPEAKER_01]: But I can't wait.
- 51:40[SPEAKER_01]: I'm really, I'm really stoked for this.
- 51:42[SPEAKER_01]: I think it, I think, also we're ready.
- 51:45[SPEAKER_01]: I think there's a huge part of the community that's ready for our conversation about this.
- 51:48[SPEAKER_01]: I think women who are like seeking an actual Pilates glass are seeking this conversation.
- 51:55[SPEAKER_01]: And I think you're giving people a permission to do it at home, which has always been something that like,
- 52:01[SPEAKER_01]: I'm a huge fan of.
- 52:02[SPEAKER_01]: Like I just think that like we keep saying we want plus be accessible, but it's not necessarily like about the price of classes y'all.
- 52:09[SPEAKER_01]: It's like making sure they have the ability to do it independently on their own.
- 52:14[SPEAKER_01]: Because I truly believe that is where confidence is built.
- 52:18[SPEAKER_01]: It's like creating this agency within themselves.
- 52:20[SPEAKER_01]: Like I can do this, you know, I can look at me.
- 52:23[SPEAKER_01]: I can do these.
- 52:24[SPEAKER_01]: I can do this move.
- 52:25[SPEAKER_01]: I can I can feel this in my body and then go on the day.
- 52:28[SPEAKER_01]: I think women especially need that internal strength and agency that yes, it's great to have a teacher like anyone of us to have eyes on you and like to give you some actual corrections, but also I think sometimes we are always outsourcing people are like what are we're I'm I good enough to somebody else's opinion and and really I just want women to have that so when you broke to me about this I was like fuck yeah.
- 52:53[SPEAKER_01]: I'm in whatever it is you're doing.
- 52:55[SPEAKER_01]: I'm in.
- 52:56[SPEAKER_02]: It's not that sense of internal trust instead of always asking for the approval to come from the outside when it gets to start approving of ourselves, feeling that we can trust what we feel, what we know.
- 53:08[SPEAKER_02]: I don't care if you're, I always tell my class.
- 53:11[SPEAKER_02]: It doesn't matter what I say.
- 53:13[SPEAKER_02]: Literally, if I come over and I'm in your face thing, lift your leg, lift your leg.
- 53:17[SPEAKER_02]: If it is not right for you, do not do it.
- 53:19[SPEAKER_02]: Do not listen to me.
- 53:20[SPEAKER_02]: Please, you have full permission.
- 53:22[SPEAKER_02]: Not to listen to me.
- 53:23[SPEAKER_02]: Listen to you.
- 53:24[SPEAKER_02]: Only you are in your body.
- 53:26[SPEAKER_02]: Only you know what you're feeling.
- 53:28[SPEAKER_02]: So it has to be a joint conversation that's happening.
- 53:34[SPEAKER_02]: It can't just come from one side.
- 53:36[SPEAKER_02]: So I am also really here for the conversations that will come from this.
- 53:41[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, we, I think the three of us could talk for hours and we're, I'm already, I, sorry, I looked at the clock.
- 53:49[SPEAKER_01]: I hope you have a few more minutes.
- 53:50[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to take a brave break and then find out where people can find you, follow you work with you and your beat action items.
- 53:56[SPEAKER_01]: All right, ladies.
- 53:58[SPEAKER_01]: We'll go, so what, Maria, where do you hang out?
- 54:00[SPEAKER_01]: Where's your favorite place?
- 54:03[SPEAKER_01]: She's going to drink her tea.
- 54:04[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to.
- 54:07[SPEAKER_01]: Where's your favorite place for people to connect with you?
- 54:09[SPEAKER_01]: How can they work with you already?
- 54:12[SPEAKER_03]: So people can look me up, find me, contact me through my website.
- 54:17[SPEAKER_03]: I am MariaGirl.com.
- 54:19[SPEAKER_03]: I also have an IG handle that is my name, MariaGirl.
- 54:24[SPEAKER_03]: And yeah, I would say those are the two best ways to connect with me.
- 54:30[SPEAKER_03]: Perfect.
- 54:30[SPEAKER_01]: Brooke, what about you and where can they buy this book if they haven't got an already?
- 54:36[SPEAKER_02]: It will be at all your favorite booksellers, I hope, I mean it's, you know, Amazon, Barnes and Noble, all those kinds of great places and hopefully we'll get it into, you know, small bookstores too.
- 54:45[SPEAKER_02]: I love the old, and then bookshops.
- 54:47[SPEAKER_01]: But also, they don't sponsor the show, but I heard it's bookshop.org.
- 54:51[SPEAKER_01]: You all if you want to support small business, small bookstops.
- 54:54[SPEAKER_01]: You can look there and see if it's there.
- 54:56[SPEAKER_01]: When you buy there, then they send money to a local bookstore.
- 54:59[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know how that works, but that's what the commercial say.
- 55:01[SPEAKER_01]: And do you hang on Instagram?
- 55:04[SPEAKER_01]: What's your website?
- 55:04[SPEAKER_01]: Where can they find you for more?
- 55:06[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's pretty simple.
- 55:07[SPEAKER_02]: So it's Brook Siler Pilates, all one word, and that's the website.
- 55:11[SPEAKER_02]: That's my Instagram handle.
- 55:13[SPEAKER_02]: That's my Gmail account.
- 55:15[SPEAKER_02]: Brook Siler Pilates at Gmail.
- 55:17[SPEAKER_02]: Wow, I'm so proud of this.
- 55:20[SPEAKER_02]: One stop shop.
- 55:20[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 55:21[SPEAKER_02]: So you can, and I'm very,
- 55:23[SPEAKER_02]: I do like, I am social, I do like sharing and hearing back from people.
- 55:28[SPEAKER_02]: I feel like it's really funny and Instagram up with something up and be like, tell me what you think and everyone's like, this is great.
- 55:33[SPEAKER_02]: But nobody answers like the question, I'm like, no, no, I really mean it.
- 55:37[SPEAKER_02]: Like I actually want to be in a conversation with you.
- 55:40[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, no.
- 55:41[SPEAKER_01]: I feel the same for them.
- 55:42[SPEAKER_02]: They don't do it for this.
- 55:44[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I don't need the flattery.
- 55:46[SPEAKER_02]: Like, thank you, but I don't need that.
- 55:47[SPEAKER_02]: I just really, actually want to know what do you think?
- 55:50[SPEAKER_02]: And what do you, what are you doing?
- 55:51[SPEAKER_02]: And yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 55:54[SPEAKER_01]: Well, you know what, they are next.
- 55:55[SPEAKER_01]: That'll be our next thing is like, how do we get women to share what they're actually thinking, you without thinking what they're thinking is wrong.
- 56:02[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you know.
- 56:02[SPEAKER_01]: But that's another, that's another in the next 25 years.
- 56:11[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, I feel like I have tons to take away, but I still, we have to in the show, how we always end it with our beat action.
- 56:17[SPEAKER_01]: I am so bold, executable, intrinsic or target steps, people can take to be it to they see it.
- 56:23[SPEAKER_01]: What do you have for us?
- 56:24[SPEAKER_01]: Well, whoever wants to go first.
- 56:28[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, yeah, I mean, so you know, I listened to another podcast you did where that came up and I realized that it was the orthodontist.
- 56:39[SPEAKER_02]: She was wonderful.
- 56:40[SPEAKER_02]: And yeah, and I was thinking I felt quite similarly, I just kind of never believe that I couldn't that I can't I just do.
- 56:50[SPEAKER_02]: I don't, I don't sit, and there are things that I sit in question for sure, or I think I have like many women, you know, the fear of being judged, who the hell wants that?
- 57:00[SPEAKER_02]: There's nothing nice about that.
- 57:01[SPEAKER_02]: So there are times that like putting myself out there can definitely, I can feel stop, but I believe very much in pushing through that, and I have had a Buddhist mentor since for like 18 years now.
- 57:16[SPEAKER_02]: And so, and she's always like, you know, the only way out is through.
- 57:19[SPEAKER_02]: So you just, you push through.
- 57:21[SPEAKER_02]: You go through that.
- 57:22[SPEAKER_02]: So I pushed through fear.
- 57:24[SPEAKER_02]: Like if I see fear, I'm going to head toward it.
- 57:26[SPEAKER_02]: It may take me well.
- 57:27[SPEAKER_02]: But I'm going toward that number one.
- 57:29[SPEAKER_02]: And number two, I don't know if it's just some innate sense of confidence.
- 57:34[SPEAKER_02]: I just, when I have an idea, I want to share it.
- 57:37[SPEAKER_02]: And when you, when I think of it as being something that I'm sharing, it doesn't feel like it's a scary thing.
- 57:42[SPEAKER_02]: I'm like, I love it.
- 57:44[SPEAKER_02]: You said you love it.
- 57:44[SPEAKER_02]: Let's just do it.
- 57:46[SPEAKER_02]: It, it's just like that.
- 57:48[SPEAKER_02]: I think for me when I think of it as sharing rather than me doing something for you then to react to, it's much, it just makes it much more palatable to go forward.
- 58:00[SPEAKER_02]: I love sharing.
- 58:01[SPEAKER_02]: I'm a group.
- 58:02[SPEAKER_02]: I'm a group.
- 58:02[SPEAKER_02]: I'm a, I'm a, I like my independence.
- 58:05[SPEAKER_02]: I like to be on my own.
- 58:07[SPEAKER_02]: I do a lot of stuff on my own, but I really do love as I said, you know, groups intelligent conversation and being with other people and sharing.
- 58:14[SPEAKER_02]: I love learning.
- 58:16[SPEAKER_02]: I can't learn enough.
- 58:17[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, I think that's, I think we're signed a good ones.
- 58:21[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, Maria.
- 58:23[SPEAKER_01]: Anything.
- 58:23[SPEAKER_01]: What do you got?
- 58:24[SPEAKER_03]: Okay.
- 58:25[SPEAKER_03]: Well,
- 58:26[SPEAKER_03]: I'm thinking of a couple things.
- 58:29[SPEAKER_03]: My mom always said, take it to you, make it.
- 58:33[SPEAKER_03]: So a lot of times, I think about that when I'm like,
- 58:39[SPEAKER_03]: It would have not quite sure what I'm doing, but I, I believe I, I know that there's something that's going to happen if I just kind of keep at it and then I don't have to have it always super clear before I get started.
- 58:55[SPEAKER_03]: So that sort of paralysis of starting sort of gets mitigated a little bit because I am like, okay, well, I'm just going to.
- 59:04[SPEAKER_03]: to make it and then things start rolling.
- 59:10[SPEAKER_03]: So I've often started things not a hundred percent sure where they're going, how they're gonna turn out.
- 59:19[SPEAKER_03]: With just this little piece of faith that's gonna, I'm gonna land on my feet somehow.
- 59:25[SPEAKER_03]: And I would also say, to make sure you have people in your corner.
- 59:33[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, like it's it's really important that we nurture those relationships and that we we build and it doesn't have to be big it's not a big thing it's a it's a little thing like you need a nice like something you can hold in terms of
- 59:56[SPEAKER_03]: You know, the people in your corner that show up for you and that that see you for who you are and how you are and can reflect back to you in your darkest moments of, you know, insecurity and, you know,
- 1:00:12[SPEAKER_03]: not being sure about something and they can reflect back to you all, all the good stuff that you are.
- 1:00:20[SPEAKER_03]: And yeah, so there's that, like, built that, built that base.
- 1:00:26[SPEAKER_03]: Though having said that, I also went to a talk a number of years ago, and the guy said, the most interesting thing, which is that there also comes times in your life when you have to
- 1:00:42[SPEAKER_03]: It's difficult, right?
- 1:00:44[SPEAKER_03]: So that you need to understand that not everyone is there for you as you need them to be or whatnot.
- 1:00:53[SPEAKER_03]: And I just have to let that go.
- 1:00:56[SPEAKER_03]: And that is sometimes a sour pill to swallow.
- 1:01:01[SPEAKER_03]: And but that that's also okay.
- 1:01:05[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 1:01:05[SPEAKER_03]: It's okay.
- 1:01:06[SPEAKER_03]: Like it doesn't always have to work out, right?
- 1:01:10[SPEAKER_03]: I would say my last thing, I got distracted by my other last thing.
- 1:01:17[SPEAKER_03]: But now, I figured out what my other last thing was, oh, I know.
- 1:01:21[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, that's like the Paramount of Paul Spray.
- 1:01:23[SPEAKER_03]: I missed it.
- 1:01:24[SPEAKER_03]: We all understood.
- 1:01:25[SPEAKER_03]: I just walked into a room and didn't remember why I walked into that room.
- 1:01:29[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I'm pariet, I have ADHD, so that's my whole life, but it's more now.
- 1:01:35[SPEAKER_03]: Um, so my, my last, my last little nugget is also a personal story.
- 1:01:41[SPEAKER_03]: It's, it's for years I spun this narrative about that I was just in the right place the right time that I saw an opportunity and I just took it and it just, you know, things worked out and that's how I am where I am today.
- 1:02:06[SPEAKER_03]: And then I needed to change that narrative to actually own the work that I did to get to where that I was, because otherwise, because otherwise, that narrative is what people hear.
- 1:02:23[SPEAKER_03]: And then they just think that, oh, you were kind of lucky.
- 1:02:25[SPEAKER_03]: And I'm like, no, the work that I did was because, yeah, I saw an opportunity and I worked my little butt off to like make that work or, you know, I saw that there was an opening and I went in and I made that opening bigger so I can get my whole ass through.
- 1:02:41[SPEAKER_03]: And I'm pulling the risk with me or, you know, like there is something to be said about, you know, grit for systems, nasty, and those are all good things, and those are not things to downplay.
- 1:02:55[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 1:02:56[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, no, that's what that thing didn't show your memory to it because I think it is so true how many women go, oh, it just happened to be, I moved there, I have no, you fucking did something like you did it.
- 1:03:06[SPEAKER_01]: Like they're, I don't believe in luck.
- 1:03:10[SPEAKER_01]: I believe in like you prepared yourself and when you're aware and you've seen opportunity, then like, yeah, but I, so thank you for sharing that because I'm so glad you see that about yourself, but also I think that we all need to see that in ourselves.
- 1:03:22[SPEAKER_01]: Like, you know,
- 1:03:23[SPEAKER_01]: Ladies, I'm up kind of up and obsessed with you guys.
- 1:03:26[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like, well, I have to do.
