- 0:13OK. I really want to talk about this
- 0:15story with that regarding police and some there's been a couple
- 0:19of violent incidents toward police officers and I don't
- 0:24think these are, I don't think they're very good at all.
- 0:28I think it's a very well, it really shows the direction the
- 0:34attitude that the public have towards police officers at the
- 0:37moment. Police shouldn't have to.
- 0:41They shouldn't be subject to violence when they're simply
- 0:44doing their job. However, I just want to go into
- 0:47some of the what I believe the reasons behind it.
- 0:50This isn't condoning any of these actions at all.
- 0:53I think it's disgusting. However, I think police in
- 0:58general, and maybe not just the police on the ground, but the
- 1:02leadership within all of the jurisdiction, state and
- 1:07territory and the federal, they need to look at their own, their
- 1:11own efforts and how they've helped.
- 1:14You know, they've, they've really fertilised the ground,
- 1:17which has created this attitude that that possibly police can
- 1:22just be treated as as punching bags.
- 1:25They've allowed this to occur. They've helped it along.
- 1:29So we'll just get into the story.
- 1:31And coming up here, we've got some comments by the QPS union,
- 1:37Queensland Police Service union representative Shane Pryor.
- 1:41OK, so this actually happened a few days ago.
- 1:43So 3 Queensland Police officers assaulted were assaulted in
- 1:46Fortitude Valley. The violent assault of three
- 1:49officers in Brisbane's nightclub precinct is further evidence of
- 1:53growing hostility towards police.
- 1:55This is what the Queensland Police Union says.
- 1:58A man and two women have been charged over the alleged serious
- 2:01assault of three officers in Fortitude Valley on Friday
- 2:05morning. That's the other thing I've
- 2:07noticed that women, and I noticed this when I was when I
- 2:10was on the job still when I was in the police, that women in me
- 2:14actually sometimes you think I was a lot more weary of the
- 2:18women that were hanging around. I always felt like there was
- 2:21more of a threat from women just coming up and trying to clock
- 2:24you then some of the blokes that were standing around.
- 2:27Anyway, it's like women have a completely different attitude
- 2:30now towards fighting and towards punching.
- 2:32They don't mind swinging a couple of punches anyway.
- 2:36I said. Police will allege the officers
- 2:37were patrolling near Brunswick Street and Wickham Street at
- 2:42about 4:00 AM before responding to a disturbance and a nearby
- 2:46business. So upon arrival, officers were
- 2:49talking to those involved in the disturbance.
- 2:52When the men and two women not involved in the disturbance have
- 2:57nothing to do with it, just stuck their nose in, they've
- 3:00approached and allegedly assaulted them.
- 3:03So they've assaulted the police. That's what they've said in a
- 3:05statement. A 30 year old male Sergeant, a
- 3:0856 year old male semi Connie, and a 30 year old female
- 3:12constable sustained injuries and were taken to hospital.
- 3:17Wow. Three on three and two of those
- 3:20alleged attackers were women. Crikey, so a 23 year old
- 3:25Caboolture man, 19 year old, a Seven Hills woman 19 and and an
- 3:3018 year old Torquay woman have been charged with two counts
- 3:34each of seriously assaulting police.
- 3:37That's ridiculous. 19 and 18 these girls.
- 3:42So Queensland Police Union president Shane Pryor said it
- 3:47was not acceptable for frontline officers tasked with protecting
- 3:51the community to be injured at work.
- 3:53We are seeing people willing to engage with police in a violent
- 3:58way, increasing no two ways about it, he said Police and not
- 4:03punching bags, respect them, respect my authority.
- 4:09So that's Shane Pryor right there.
- 4:13He sat next to me while I was doing my interview, you know,
- 4:17when they were treating me like a criminal because I didn't take
- 4:19the jab. Good old Shane was sitting right
- 4:22next to me after the police union had already signed off on
- 4:26everything and agreed with the Katarina that, you know, they
- 4:30should be able to force us all to take the jab.
- 4:33So he sat there and as support very well knowing that he
- 4:38actually supported the other side and he was part of the
- 4:40cause of it. Anyway, so he goes on to say he
- 4:44said it was disgusting to see onlookers making light of the
- 4:47situation, describing mobile phone footage of the event as
- 4:50harrowing and absolutely sickening.
- 4:52The semi Connie who was making the arrest was actually punched
- 4:56in the back of the head by a female bystander.
- 5:00That's what I just said. I felt more uncomfortable with
- 5:03some of the ladies standing around.
- 5:05So he's making the arrest. Female 118 or 19 year old
- 5:10punches him in the back of the head.
- 5:11That's you're an idiot if you do that which has seen essentially
- 5:15rendered him unconscious and he hit the ground.
- 5:19Surprised that he went through the Academy with the seat with
- 5:22the senior Connie who was who's worked with the inner City beat
- 5:25for some time. He went back to work last night
- 5:28and that should show the Queensland community had
- 5:31dedicated. He is, he said one Sergeant
- 5:34suffered. Well, there's only one Sergeant
- 5:36there. So these Sergeant suffered
- 5:38abrasions from an eye gouge. Crikey, that's, that's
- 5:42disgusting. But all officers involved are
- 5:45expected to make a full recovery.
- 5:48OK, so look, as I said, it's disgusting behaviour.
- 5:56But unfortunately I think, and this isn't just Queensland
- 6:02police issue, I think Queensland, I think police all
- 6:05over our great land have actually caused this.
- 6:09The leadership anyway have caused this issue.
- 6:13For one, they have allowed the hiring of people who should not
- 6:18be on the job. And I'm not saying any of these
- 6:20people shouldn't be on the job, But and how I'm saying why I'm
- 6:24saying this, how I'll justify this line of thought is we see
- 6:28so many police officers who they can't handle the pressure.
- 6:34So many police officers have lashed out and assaulted like
- 6:38just the other day, the indigenous male in WA standing
- 6:43there, OK, whatever he was doing, but he's standing.
- 6:46It seemed like he could hardly even stand up himself.
- 6:49You know, he seemed intoxicated. He was, he was a fairly frail
- 6:52looking fella, a young police officer, a lot taller, a lot
- 6:56bigger, a lot more feet. And by the footage, just going
- 7:01by the footage, throws him, just sweeps his legs out from
- 7:04underneath him and tosses him to the ground, which if that was
- 7:09anyone else without a uniform that would, you'd be looking at
- 7:12an assault charge, You'd be investigating an assault charge.
- 7:16And there's these things going on you had in Victoria, you had
- 7:20from years ago. There's been a heap of things in
- 7:21Victoria. But I said the other day there
- 7:23was that police officer walks up behind a guy, I think he was in
- 7:25a railway station, just grabs him and throws him, holds him
- 7:30onto the ground, cracks his head.
- 7:33And in the end, I didn't think he even got charged.
- 7:36You know, in Queensland, you had the officer Alistair N gets,
- 7:41there's an attempt, there's a, there's someone who's trying to
- 7:44do some, some crime in the area, Alistair N he's the description
- 7:49of the person. Of course he goes and picks
- 7:52someone up who doesn't fit the description because you know,
- 7:56that's what you do. Someone's got to trying to break
- 7:58into vehicles and he's got a car and wearing a black, sorry, not
- 8:02got a car, got a push bike and wearing a black hoodie.
- 8:05So according to Alastair N, you pick up the guy who's not
- 8:08pushing a push bike and not wearing a black hoodie.
- 8:10That's his intelligence. So you've got incidents like
- 8:14this that go on all the time. You've got incidents where the,
- 8:18the police officer who was caught, it seems like he's
- 8:20called drink driving, but then police screw up the charges.
- 8:25They don't do the investigation properly and they have to drop
- 8:27the charges. You have all these little
- 8:29incidents, all the, all the, the NSW cop who tases the old lady
- 8:34and she ends up dying. All these little things when
- 8:39they brought together, they're all sitting in the mind, in the
- 8:42public eye, in the, in the memory of the public.
- 8:46And police don't, sorry, the public don't look at police
- 8:51anymore and think authority and respect.
- 8:56They just look at police and think we've got thugs, we've got
- 9:00thugs. They're all thugs.
- 9:02They can't be trusted. They're just violence.
- 9:06And when they, you know, we, we don't need to respect them.
- 9:10And this has been because different hierarchies, different
- 9:13leadership have allowed, they've, they've dropped the
- 9:16standards for the people that they've allowed in because
- 9:20they're so adamant that they wanted a 5050 ratio.
- 9:24They've dropped the they've dropped the the standards and
- 9:27they get a lower class of officer officers that think it's
- 9:34OK to deal with, like the Queensland officer the other day
- 9:37dealing in stolen goods. What the heck?
- 9:41Dealing in stolen goods. You're seeing economy and you're
- 9:43dealing in stolen goods here. These kinds of things erode
- 9:47confidence in our police services nationwide.
- 9:52But leadership have allowed the erosion because they have gone
- 9:58they, they have, they have lowered standards constantly
- 10:02there instead of having a higher standard and holding out and
- 10:05making sure that we have the police that can handle the
- 10:09stresses of the jobs, Making sure they don't have officers
- 10:13who are swayed by criminal elements and making sure they
- 10:17don't have police who are just looking for what was it money
- 10:22and lifestyle. Remember, this is what
- 10:23Queensland Police Service, the union they identified.
- 10:27Well, if we want to find new people, if we want to get all
- 10:30these young people in, they're interested in money and
- 10:33lifestyle. The the problem is if you're
- 10:37just getting, if you're recruiting people, young people
- 10:40who are just interested in money and lifestyle, they're not
- 10:44serving the community, they're just serving their own selfish
- 10:49ambitions. If you want to be a police
- 10:52officer, you need to be somewhat community orientated.
- 10:57And I'm not saying that you can't be looking out for your
- 11:00own career and your own career advancement, but you also need
- 11:04to be looking out for the community and wanting to help
- 11:07people and not just chasing after things because you're
- 11:10going to be making more money. Because just because you're
- 11:13looking for the next promotion, not be going out and just, you
- 11:16know, someone getting on your nerves because they're a bit
- 11:19drunk and they're standing there.
- 11:20So you just go and knock them to the ground and drive off.
- 11:23These kinds of things all chip away at public confidence in our
- 11:30police. And This is why we have nafties
- 11:33getting in and attacking good police officers who are just
- 11:37trying to deal with the situation at 4:00 in the morning
- 11:40in the Valley in Brisbane. So Shane Pryor, OK, And all the
- 11:46other leadership, all the unions and the leadership teams, this
- 11:50has been on you, Shane Pryor. You were you were a part of the
- 11:54erosion. You're the one that you you
- 11:57mightn't have led the attack on good police officers who just
- 12:00didn't want to get the jab, but you were definitely there in the
- 12:03background sorting things out, making sure that Katarina and
- 12:07and her little cohort were able to do that job, were able to go
- 12:11in and stab people in the back. You were part of the problem.
- 12:15You lost a heap of good officers and you're part of the erosion
- 12:19of confidence. You've instigated some of these
- 12:23measures that have been brought in.
- 12:27This is just, I'm, I'm sorry, but this is what I think police
- 12:32have brought this, not police on the ground necessarily, but the
- 12:36leadership and the people that make the decisions on, on
- 12:41recruitment. They have brought this upon
- 12:44themselves by hiring people that shouldn't be in the job,
- 12:48allowing people to continue people like the LSD North to go
- 12:52and do just absolutely stupid things and then allow them in
- 12:58And then and then other good officers who, you know, might
- 13:03maybe they just don't want to get the jab or something shoving
- 13:06them out. People who actually want to
- 13:08think about things, they'll go and shove them out.
- 13:10They they will embrace officers who will do, you know, assault
- 13:13officers, like let's see what happens with this guy in Wawa
- 13:18police. Are they going to actually go
- 13:20after and investigate this properly?
- 13:22Or is this just going to be swept under the rug?
- 13:26Because that's the problem when they don't follow, when they
- 13:30don't face up to their own hypocrisy, the public just don't
- 13:36take kindly to it all and and just lose respect.
- 13:40And then the public idiot 181923 year olds are out there thinking
- 13:46that they have the right, they're justified to attack
- 13:49police because police don't respect the public.
- 13:52So the public no longer respect the police.
- 13:56And Shane Prowl, while you are right in some instances, I think
- 14:01you can also bear some of the blame.
- 14:04That's just my opinion. I'm Jay Fallon, please let me
- 14:08know what you think. Thanks for listening to the
- 14:09slippery slope. They just feel.
