- 0:04Speaker 1: Welcome back to Artists on Artists on Artists on artists. Today,
- 0:08Speaker 1: it's that time of the year. Yes, it's Oscar season.
- 0:12Speaker 1: But who decides who wins the Oscars? Well, today we
- 0:16Speaker 1: sit down with the people who do.
- 0:18Speaker 2: They say, I'd like.
- 0:19Speaker 3: To thank the Academy. But who is it they're thinking. Well,
- 0:22Speaker 3: we talked to four of the members of the American
- 0:25Speaker 3: Society of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences also known by
- 0:28Speaker 3: other names that are more correct to see what they
- 0:31Speaker 3: do to pick who they want to be the best
- 0:35Speaker 3: of every category at the Academy Awards.
- 0:38Speaker 4: Choosing a Best Picture is like choosing a name for
- 0:42Speaker 4: a baby or a Nobel Peace Prize. It's a decision
- 0:45Speaker 4: with lasting ramifications that should be taken very seriously.
- 0:50Speaker 2: What do they do? How do they sound like? We're
- 0:53Speaker 2: gonna find out today. Let's listen in Unbelievable.
- 1:02Speaker 3: Yes, yeah, it feels good to be here with you guys.
- 1:07Speaker 4: So it feels wonderful. I love this time of year.
- 1:11Speaker 2: I really it's Christmas. It's Christmas for us.
- 1:14Speaker 4: Christmas for us when our f y C packages arrive
- 1:19Speaker 4: in the mail and I get a big, juicy screenplay
- 1:23Speaker 4: to the movie Hidden Figures that is the time. Yes,
- 1:29Speaker 4: they still say there's a clerical error. I'm still getting
- 1:33Speaker 4: a lot from Hidden Figures.
- 1:34Speaker 2: Hidden Figures sent me a beach ball last week.
- 1:38Speaker 4: Ladies, it's not gonna work, ladies.
- 1:40Speaker 2: It's not gonna work, ladies. Math's hard. Well, that's not
- 1:45Speaker 2: what we're saying. We were saying that at all. What
- 1:47Speaker 2: do you mean fy C?
- 1:51Speaker 3: For those who might not know because you're not us,
- 1:54Speaker 3: fy C means for your consideration. And there's a lot
- 1:56Speaker 3: of packets we get, there's a lot of DVDs, we get,
- 1:59Speaker 3: pamph and sometimes they give us literally free gas.
- 2:03Speaker 2: Let's explain what it's like to be an Academy member.
- 2:06Speaker 2: Let's talk about it.
- 2:07Speaker 1: So basically, what happens during the season is movies want
- 2:10Speaker 1: to win Oscars, and how they do that is one,
- 2:14Speaker 1: make a good Oscar movie, but two try to lightly
- 2:17Speaker 1: bribe us and convince us with all the free things
- 2:20Speaker 1: they sent on.
- 2:20Speaker 5: But even before that, it's when a screenwriter loves a
- 2:24Speaker 5: director so much that they make the decision to bring
- 2:28Speaker 5: a movie into this world.
- 2:31Speaker 2: We love movies.
- 2:32Speaker 3: Do you guys remember the first time maybe one of
- 2:36Speaker 3: your your big brother or big sister in the Academy
- 2:38Speaker 3: explained to you how movies were made.
- 2:40Speaker 4: Oh did I remember Cloris Leachman took me under her
- 2:44Speaker 4: wing and she said, I want to show you something.
- 2:47Speaker 2: I thought they came in on the stork. Yeah.
- 2:50Speaker 4: No, No, A movie is made when a union is
- 2:53Speaker 4: so strong that everyone comes together and says, this is
- 2:58Speaker 4: what we want. The studio says, you know, I consent,
- 3:01Speaker 4: The director says I consent, the actors, they all consent,
- 3:05Speaker 4: and then a movie is made and we get to
- 3:08Speaker 4: vote on it. Beautiful, you know, beautiful.
- 3:11Speaker 3: Some of my favorite movies were actually made in a
- 3:15Speaker 3: dark alley on a dangerous night.
- 3:17Speaker 2: No kind of Well, by the way, should we go around?
- 3:28Speaker 5: What about that year that your daughter was getting married?
- 3:32Speaker 5: So you just said, tell me what films didn't have
- 3:35Speaker 5: firm film permits, and I'll just vote for those.
- 3:37Speaker 2: Oh, yes, that's what I did.
- 3:38Speaker 3: You were too busy, I said, just tell me which
- 3:41Speaker 3: one didn't have permit? Which ones were legal? I said,
- 3:44Speaker 3: tell me which ones were rogue? Tell me which ones
- 3:46Speaker 3: were shot on an iPhone? And then Scores said, I
- 3:49Speaker 3: used to iPhone. I said, yeah, probably to make phone calls.
- 3:51Speaker 3: But I'm talking about to make a movie because your daughter,
- 3:55Speaker 3: Because your daughter is getting married. You know, when your
- 3:57Speaker 3: daughter's getting married, you can't do anything else. You just
- 4:00Speaker 3: have no time for anything your Okay, wait.
- 4:03Speaker 2: I want to go around. I want to I want
- 4:05Speaker 2: to get our names.
- 4:05Speaker 3: But I was wondering maybe we don't give our names,
- 4:08Speaker 3: and so maybe we all give a code name.
- 4:10Speaker 5: Okay, I want to still go to Earth Cafe.
- 4:16Speaker 2: I gotta keep being able to go.
- 4:18Speaker 4: It's sort of a code of honor thing. It's a
- 4:20Speaker 4: hip a thing. We cannot reveal our identities lest we
- 4:24Speaker 4: be corrupted.
- 4:26Speaker 2: But I will say this.
- 4:27Speaker 5: I think a lot of people think, like, what is
- 4:29Speaker 5: just a bunch of old people voting.
- 4:31Speaker 2: We used to make movies too, remember.
- 4:34Speaker 4: Yes, and we don't just vote for we vote for president.
- 4:39Speaker 4: I have to apply vote in community polls. You know,
- 4:42Speaker 4: we're not just voting for this. We we do lots
- 4:45Speaker 4: of other things.
- 4:46Speaker 1: That everything story that has an A or B option.
- 4:49Speaker 1: I am clicking voted the boys.
- 4:51Speaker 4: If it's write in, I hiss and I scream, I
- 4:54Speaker 4: don't do the right D.
- 4:55Speaker 3: And we have to apply to be members of the Yes,
- 4:58Speaker 3: the members of the Academy are by people from all
- 5:02Speaker 3: over right, it's it's actors it's writers, it's directors, and
- 5:06Speaker 3: then it's people who do other stuff on movies we
- 5:08Speaker 3: don't talk to.
- 5:09Speaker 2: I've never talked to a crew person in mine. No,
- 5:11Speaker 2: I don't look, honey, I don't live below the line.
- 5:14Speaker 1: Oh that's not because they're poor. It's what you call
- 5:19Speaker 1: a production below the line and above the line, we
- 5:22Speaker 1: can't go into it.
- 5:23Speaker 4: It is also the below the line of Franklin Avenue.
- 5:27Speaker 3: We don't live there there, and honestly below the line
- 5:30Speaker 3: of just the grid on the Excel sheet when they
- 5:32Speaker 3: send out the call sheet.
- 5:33Speaker 2: That's what I'm talking about. It's a specific line, which
- 5:36Speaker 2: one it is? I remember physical call sheets. Call me crazy,
- 5:40Speaker 2: I do too. I think there's still it's crazy. I
- 5:44Speaker 2: remember them because you had that accident and you're a voter. Okay,
- 5:50Speaker 2: let's go around names. What do we want our fake
- 5:52Speaker 2: names to be?
- 5:52Speaker 4: Okay, okay, well, I've been thinking about this. I thought,
- 5:55Speaker 4: I know you sent a little text to us earlier
- 5:58Speaker 4: to be to be like let's physical see physical text
- 6:01Speaker 4: a letter. Yes, through I would like to be known
- 6:06Speaker 4: as madam Webb.
- 6:09Speaker 2: I am.
- 6:12Speaker 4: I do not want anyone to know my real name.
- 6:17Speaker 4: I HERETO for Will be known as Madam Webb. Let's
- 6:21Speaker 4: just say I produced some movies about forty years ago,
- 6:25Speaker 4: and then I came into some money and I said,
- 6:27Speaker 4: I don't want to do this anymore. So I, Madam Webb,
- 6:33Speaker 4: got into you know, I applied. I'm in the academy
- 6:35Speaker 4: and now I've been voting ever since the La La
- 6:39Speaker 4: Land here that was.
- 6:42Speaker 2: We'll talk about land. Yeah, it's kind of the one
- 6:46Speaker 2: big thing we can talk. It's kind only.
- 6:52Speaker 1: I want to know where we where this crew stands,
- 6:56Speaker 1: who voted for what?
- 6:57Speaker 2: Well?
- 6:58Speaker 4: I mean, I'm I thought that it was my fault
- 7:01Speaker 4: when I watched the TV. I don't know if anyone felt,
- 7:03Speaker 4: you know, you're involved in something, you think, oh well
- 7:06Speaker 4: that must have been must have been me. Maybe I
- 7:08Speaker 4: filled out a form wrong and I was the last
- 7:10Speaker 4: vote and suddenly I had to go to therapy for years.
- 7:14Speaker 2: Way to sender it around yourself, that's so important.
- 7:18Speaker 1: Web, mad I like that, Madame Webb. I want to
- 7:21Speaker 1: be known as Captain Falcon.
- 7:25Speaker 2: Oh, I love it, I love it.
- 7:27Speaker 1: I love Captain Falcon. Two of my favorite movies this year,
- 7:31Speaker 1: The Captain and The Falcon.
- 7:34Speaker 2: So okay, yes, have you guys seen those movies, The
- 7:36Speaker 2: Captain and the no I haven't seen those beautiful films.
- 7:40Speaker 1: One is out of Peru. Favela in Peru made a
- 7:44Speaker 1: movie called The Captain. It's a beautiful movie. Show one favela,
- 7:47Speaker 1: one favela, one single. So there's a place of Peru
- 7:51Speaker 1: that has a single favela, a single novela beautiful captain.
- 7:58Speaker 2: And then the Faa.
- 8:02Speaker 1: They're not French in Peru, but The Falcon was a
- 8:06Speaker 1: French movie, and that's the important thing. It was lou
- 8:09Speaker 1: falconon Falcon.
- 8:13Speaker 2: Falcon.
- 8:14Speaker 1: Yes, love Falcon would be better, but they didn't translate
- 8:16Speaker 1: it right because they were It was a tiny little
- 8:19Speaker 1: village in the south of France and they made this
- 8:22Speaker 1: movie called The Falcon, all about a boy and his
- 8:25Speaker 1: pet falcon, and it brought.
- 8:27Speaker 2: Me to cheers and tears. I like to write cheers
- 8:32Speaker 2: and tears.
- 8:32Speaker 1: If I'm cheering, and if I'm teering, you've done your
- 8:35Speaker 1: job as a filmmaker.
- 8:37Speaker 2: Oh I love it. It's wonderful. Thank you, Thank you
- 8:39Speaker 2: so Captain Falcon. For me, it's wonderful.
- 8:43Speaker 5: I do want to know the what you both did
- 8:45Speaker 5: in the industry. We'll get to we'll get to it.
- 8:47Speaker 2: Oh yeah, let's go. Let's do a second go round?
- 8:50Speaker 4: A second, a second go around.
- 8:53Speaker 2: I think we have to stay organized. I think we do.
- 8:57Speaker 2: Do you want to go next? You can go? Oh,
- 9:00Speaker 2: go ahead? Bookay I will. I'm major pain as well
- 9:06Speaker 2: as my name.
- 9:07Speaker 3: To me, I'm going to be major pain because I
- 9:10Speaker 3: am the Sean Baker fan, obviously, but also I'm a
- 9:13Speaker 3: fan of comedies. I have been voting ever since I
- 9:16Speaker 3: got to vote for Kevin Klein in nineteen eighty six
- 9:19Speaker 3: for a fish called Wanda.
- 9:19Speaker 2: What do you want the best supporting actor? Come on,
- 9:22Speaker 2: come on, let's just say.
- 9:24Speaker 3: Since I was a kid, and this is real, I
- 9:26Speaker 3: bought a book when I was seven years old about
- 9:28Speaker 3: all the Academy Award winners and I read it front
- 9:30Speaker 3: to back.
- 9:31Speaker 2: It was just a list. It was just a long list,
- 9:33Speaker 2: and I did read it.
- 9:34Speaker 4: That's like a scam of a book.
- 9:35Speaker 3: Yes, I bought it in Barnes and Noble in Arlington,
- 9:37Speaker 3: Texas in nineteen ninety six.
- 9:40Speaker 2: I remember almost everything.
- 9:42Speaker 3: Yes, I remember many many years that two thousand and two,
- 9:45Speaker 3: two thousand and two, I'm gonna say that was a
- 9:46Speaker 3: beautiful mind.
- 9:47Speaker 2: Wow, do you feel like you remember too much?
- 9:50Speaker 3: Yes, I don't need to know this stuff. The problem
- 9:53Speaker 3: is my wife doesn't watch movies. My kids don't watch movies.
- 9:58Speaker 3: Not your daughter who's married, my daughter. That's the thing.
- 10:01Speaker 3: She was so focused on getting married. She gets she
- 10:04Speaker 3: she said, I need some space in my brain. She
- 10:05Speaker 3: decided to forego movies.
- 10:07Speaker 2: I heard that. I heard that brides don't watch a
- 10:09Speaker 2: lot of movies.
- 10:10Speaker 3: No, they don't, and and and that's what I'm hearing.
- 10:12Speaker 3: The executives, the batcats are saying, we're not even advertising
- 10:15Speaker 3: to brides anymore.
- 10:15Speaker 4: No, no, no, you don't know until you get married.
- 10:19Speaker 4: Something else takes over your body, and all of a sudden,
- 10:22Speaker 4: you're thinking about table arrangements, and you cannot watch a
- 10:24Speaker 4: single movie.
- 10:25Speaker 2: I tried.
- 10:26Speaker 4: I opened my eyes in the theater and nothing happened.
- 10:28Speaker 2: You're looking at Wally, and you're like seating arrangement, Wally, Yeah,
- 10:33Speaker 2: exactly like that seating arrange, Major paid. I made your pains. Yeah,
- 10:40Speaker 2: talk about let's talk about the accident in your name? Okay,
- 10:42Speaker 2: which one first? I'm gonna go. We'll go with the
- 10:45Speaker 2: pun nickname for me. Let's do baby girl.
- 10:47Speaker 4: Okay, baby girl, we got baby girl, Major pain.
- 10:51Speaker 2: Captain and.
- 10:55Speaker 4: We choose.
- 11:00Speaker 2: I'll I'll go right out and say it.
- 11:04Speaker 5: I used to uh uh glot hoverglot.
- 11:12Speaker 2: Is that one of those things that's like a wheel
- 11:13Speaker 2: that you stand on.
- 11:15Speaker 6: Yes?
- 11:16Speaker 2: Sure, and then I fell. So that's the accident.
- 11:19Speaker 5: And ever since then, I only vote for Emma Stone.
- 11:24Speaker 4: I love for her.
- 11:26Speaker 2: I'm known in the Academy. It's just maybe Emma Stone's
- 11:29Speaker 2: number one fan. Yeah, we can't get out, they can't
- 11:32Speaker 2: get me out of here.
- 11:33Speaker 3: She has a nickname right in Rondo, which isn't her
- 11:35Speaker 3: real name, but she's writing at Emma Stone all the time.
- 11:38Speaker 4: Literally, my name is writing Rounder. Her alias is baby.
- 11:42Speaker 2: Girl, and her real name is none of the above.
- 11:45Speaker 2: You know, you can't know.
- 11:46Speaker 5: But yeah, I had an accident, and then ever since
- 11:48Speaker 5: I just go for Emma Stone Best visual Effects this year.
- 11:51Speaker 2: I'm a Frick and Stone.
- 11:53Speaker 4: Oh so you're a downballot the whole thing.
- 11:56Speaker 7: M O.
- 11:56Speaker 2: Yeah. But then sometimes I get tired and I just.
- 11:59Speaker 5: Go, well, this movie kept me awake the earliest, or
- 12:01Speaker 5: if I was in a bad mood that day, I
- 12:03Speaker 5: didn't like the movie, ye, so I yeah.
- 12:06Speaker 1: So one of my favorite categories to think about is
- 12:09Speaker 1: you know what movie kept me awake the earliest. You know,
- 12:12Speaker 1: it's such a profound idea, and I think more Academy
- 12:16Speaker 1: members should be holding movies to that metric.
- 12:19Speaker 2: Absolutely.
- 12:20Speaker 4: Yeah, what kept me awake the earliest, What kept me
- 12:23Speaker 4: awake to the earliest.
- 12:24Speaker 2: So what that means is what got me right?
- 12:29Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 12:29Speaker 5: Like, I'm a big fan of opening image of a movie.
- 12:34Speaker 2: Image. I'm an opening image person.
- 12:37Speaker 5: If it's captivating, I'll say, oh my gosh, Emma Stone
- 12:40Speaker 5: in the Favorite, that opening image of the Rabbit got me.
- 12:45Speaker 3: Well that's where I disagree. I always start forty five
- 12:48Speaker 3: minutes in. I go, I pause the movie so it
- 12:51Speaker 3: doesn't play, and I pause it all the way to
- 12:53Speaker 3: forty five minutes and I play it and I see
- 12:56Speaker 3: the opening image of forty five minutes in.
- 12:59Speaker 5: If I like the mid point, A lot of cinematographers
- 13:04Speaker 5: who are voters put it on mute.
- 13:07Speaker 2: Oh yeah, and they go, do I know the plot?
- 13:10Speaker 3: Well, here's the secret. A lot of cinematographers I know
- 13:12Speaker 3: don't know how to hook up their bows to their TV.
- 13:15Speaker 2: And you would think so bars are hard. I think
- 13:17Speaker 2: they do, but they.
- 13:18Speaker 4: Just very different skills set.
- 13:22Speaker 5: We must do the second go rounds of your remind
- 13:29Speaker 5: us of your alias when during the second go round
- 13:32Speaker 5: and you you just say, why, what you did in
- 13:36Speaker 5: the industry, What you.
- 13:38Speaker 4: Did in the industry, what industry I will.
- 13:41Speaker 5: See talking about cinematographers putting it on mute, what you
- 13:44Speaker 5: did in film?
- 13:46Speaker 1: Uh?
- 13:47Speaker 5: Educate your vote, right, It like a lot of actors
- 13:50Speaker 5: will vote a certain way. A lot before my accident,
- 13:53Speaker 5: I voted a certain way. So yeah, so it's it's
- 13:56Speaker 5: helpful to know, no, of course.
- 13:58Speaker 4: And I you know, I used to be a producer
- 14:02Speaker 4: of films of ladies dancing eighty percent of the guild,
- 14:08Speaker 4: eighty percent of the guild. Yes, yes, So I used
- 14:11Speaker 4: to make films of you know, tortured ballerinas and and
- 14:15Speaker 4: and women breaking their legs on stage. It was, it was,
- 14:18Speaker 4: it had a very specific audience and and at that time,
- 14:20Speaker 4: you know, it was quite popular in certain circles. But
- 14:24Speaker 4: all of that is to say, I my my experience
- 14:28Speaker 4: in dancing gave me.
- 14:30Speaker 2: Uh.
- 14:30Speaker 4: You know, we all have our biases, and I have
- 14:33Speaker 4: a specific code word that if I hear it in
- 14:35Speaker 4: a film I voted best picture.
- 14:37Speaker 2: Wow interesting for the filmmaker.
- 14:40Speaker 4: I couldn't And I wish I could tell the filmmaker
- 14:43Speaker 4: what it is. I wish I could tell you all
- 14:44Speaker 4: what it is, but just know that as soon as
- 14:46Speaker 4: I hear it, that's best picture.
- 14:48Speaker 2: Oh it's a sleeper cell word.
- 14:49Speaker 4: It's a sleeper cell word.
- 14:51Speaker 2: And I am, you don't know the word, and it
- 14:53Speaker 2: wins you up earliest.
- 14:55Speaker 4: I wish I knew what it is, Madam. I forget
- 14:57Speaker 4: it as soon as it's gone.
- 14:59Speaker 5: What do you say to the that would think that's
- 15:00Speaker 5: unfair and maybe not about what the oscars are about,
- 15:04Speaker 5: where it's not maybe a lottery, but more about the
- 15:06Speaker 5: best storytelling and and an innovative way of using cinema
- 15:10Speaker 5: for a medium.
- 15:12Speaker 4: You know, that's a fair a fair criticism. But I
- 15:15Speaker 4: would say that we all have sleeper words and we
- 15:18Speaker 4: don't even know it. We do it when we're voting
- 15:21Speaker 4: for president. We do it when we're choosing a Chipotle
- 15:24Speaker 4: chicken sandwich. You don't know which word?
- 15:29Speaker 2: And can I just say they did that? Finally, finally
- 15:34Speaker 2: I heard all of the Guardian has a McRib waiting years.
- 15:42Speaker 3: It's so funny, and I would say, please put my
- 15:47Speaker 3: tacos on a button and they would say, we can't
- 15:49Speaker 3: do that.
- 15:50Speaker 2: Chicken put it together, put it together.
- 15:52Speaker 4: I was throwing my hands on the floor. You have
- 15:55Speaker 4: all the ingredients, why not repurpose it? Please? Please, please
- 16:03Speaker 4: please make it sandwich. I'm Italian, serve my needs. And
- 16:10Speaker 4: they wouldn't do it.
- 16:12Speaker 2: They wouldn't do it.
- 16:13Speaker 4: They whined about corporate Oh.
- 16:15Speaker 2: I thank god.
- 16:17Speaker 1: Well, looks like you voted for the sandwich to come
- 16:20Speaker 1: in to win Best Sandwich.
- 16:22Speaker 5: And you filmmakers just look at me for a second.
- 16:29Speaker 4: I want you to make the movie you want to make.
- 16:32Speaker 4: Don't think about what we're doing because you don't know
- 16:35Speaker 4: the secret word that's going to trigger me into voting
- 16:38Speaker 4: for your film. So do what you think is best.
- 16:42Speaker 2: You have to know there's a lot of mysteria behind
- 16:44Speaker 2: what wins.
- 16:45Speaker 5: Sometimes the reason in Film One is because a woman
- 16:48Speaker 5: who orders a chicken sandwich at Chipotle picked it.
- 16:51Speaker 3: I want to say, and I want to say, and
- 16:53Speaker 3: there's a lot of misconceptions. Everyone goes, well, you know,
- 16:55Speaker 3: I see the Reddit thread and they try to figure
- 16:58Speaker 3: out what your secret word is, what you've told me,
- 17:00Speaker 3: and I want to devote this. You pick a word
- 17:03Speaker 3: when you see the title of the movie, so it's
- 17:06Speaker 3: different for every movie.
- 17:08Speaker 1: The word your brain picks a word, yeah, for the movie,
- 17:11Speaker 1: and if the word is said in that movie, you'll choose.
- 17:14Speaker 3: And I'll spoil I don't want to spoil this, but
- 17:15Speaker 3: I heard your word for Elvis was persudo.
- 17:18Speaker 4: It was it was pershudo.
- 17:20Speaker 2: Well, it seems like you spoiled it. That movie has
- 17:23Speaker 2: already been voted in nothing.
- 17:25Speaker 4: And listen to filmmakers out there. Don't go put in
- 17:28Speaker 4: preshudo in your movies thinking I'm going to vote for it.
- 17:32Speaker 4: That's not gonna work because I'm gonna change it as
- 17:36Speaker 4: soon as I think of the next movie. So if
- 17:39Speaker 4: you're set your Sopranos movie at a deli, good luck.
- 17:44Speaker 4: I see right through that. And actually it's gonna trigger
- 17:47Speaker 4: my anti word, which is a kill button, which which
- 17:50Speaker 4: throws it out of contention. And if I've voted for
- 17:53Speaker 4: it in any other category, I remove my vote and
- 17:56Speaker 4: I burned my ballot and I request a new one
- 17:58Speaker 4: and I start over.
- 18:00Speaker 2: I love that.
- 18:01Speaker 4: Don't even try it. I don't want to see a
- 18:03Speaker 4: movie about it'll piss me the hell off over. You
- 18:07Speaker 4: don't want to see Madam Webb pissed the hell off Never.
- 18:14Speaker 7: Okay, let's kick the go around okay, well, yes, well
- 18:20Speaker 7: what I used to do as if I was a
- 18:22Speaker 7: producer as well, and I would try to make the
- 18:26Speaker 7: movie that would most likely win Best Picture Oscar Baby movie.
- 18:30Speaker 2: Yes, wait, baits.
- 18:32Speaker 1: Whatever I could do to get my hands.
- 18:37Speaker 4: We can smell the baby, smell the base.
- 18:41Speaker 1: Every year that the people would see the movie and go,
- 18:45Speaker 1: you know what, this is sad enough, but hard enough
- 18:48Speaker 1: and general enough to capture my vote.
- 18:53Speaker 4: Wait, can we talk about really quickly what baits you?
- 18:56Speaker 4: Because there are there are certain little cues.
- 18:58Speaker 5: I'll tell you, Yes, I'll tell you you either Amma
- 19:02Speaker 5: zone or I forgot.
- 19:08Speaker 6: Either her or out of focus shot with a yes,
- 19:14Speaker 6: high pitched noise in the trailer I am.
- 19:19Speaker 4: Baited, wide extended shot one minute long of a worker
- 19:25Speaker 4: from far away doing a menial task.
- 19:29Speaker 2: That here's my bait. Here's my bait. Emma. No line
- 19:33Speaker 2: at the top, not a big deal, same line set
- 19:35Speaker 2: at the end. No, it's a big deal.
- 19:37Speaker 1: Wow wow wow, yes wow. Woman taking depressing bath for me?
- 19:46Speaker 1: Depressing I am locked.
- 19:50Speaker 2: Oh yeah, depressing a bath.
- 19:53Speaker 4: Oh you know what baits me?
- 19:55Speaker 1: Different language, different, different language, A couple of parts.
- 20:01Speaker 2: I don't tell you my favorite.
- 20:03Speaker 5: Different language, different language, no subtitles where they say the
- 20:07Speaker 5: different language and then person next to them goes, he's
- 20:09Speaker 5: saying this kind of.
- 20:11Speaker 3: Like that, and I like, my, I'll tell you my
- 20:13Speaker 3: favorite different language, Nave. Why aren't they using NAV more?
- 20:16Speaker 3: I know they need to bring NOV back form movie.
- 20:19Speaker 1: Look if if they did a movie, if I got
- 20:22Speaker 1: to see something like Wicked, but they were using NAV
- 20:25Speaker 1: laguage like Avatar.
- 20:27Speaker 2: And put her in a bath and ever say bershoda, Yeah,
- 20:31Speaker 2: why did.
- 20:31Speaker 4: You guys see that film that was going around that
- 20:34Speaker 4: they were they were testing? It wasn't It wasn't Wicked,
- 20:37Speaker 4: it was would you say Wicked?
- 20:40Speaker 2: Wicked? Wicked? Did you guys see Wicked? I love Wicked.
- 20:44Speaker 2: I didn't see Wicked. I saw Wicked. I wonder if
- 20:47Speaker 2: it's the same one Wicked.
- 20:50Speaker 4: Because I wouldn't I I don't think i'd vote for Wicked,
- 20:54Speaker 4: but I would vote for Wicked. And it depends on
- 20:57Speaker 4: what what we.
- 20:58Speaker 3: Read, what happens in your Wicked so that you were
- 21:01Speaker 3: closer there, Well, no.
- 21:03Speaker 2: I'm saying it the way you say it, but I've
- 21:04Speaker 2: said it Wicked. I saw a movie called Wicked.
- 21:09Speaker 4: I think you you may have seen Wicked, So tell me,
- 21:14Speaker 4: what happens in yours? Which one?
- 21:15Speaker 2: Did you vote for the same thing? Emans in both?
- 21:19Speaker 2: Which signs or power? Hm? No, mine was an annoying
- 21:23Speaker 2: girl ruins a friend's life. Okay, so I think you
- 21:26Speaker 2: saw the same movie. You saw the same movie? Or Wicked? Wicked?
- 21:33Speaker 2: How do you spell it Wicked? How do you spell it?
- 21:37Speaker 2: W I w I?
- 21:40Speaker 5: Okay, people who are choosing best picture.
- 21:45Speaker 4: Wicked, Wicked, Wicked w I k T.
- 21:49Speaker 2: It's different, Okay, it's different. I mind you. I don't
- 21:53Speaker 2: look at posters.
- 21:55Speaker 3: Posters are the devil, their manipulative posters trying to make
- 21:59Speaker 3: you feel something.
- 22:00Speaker 2: I want to know what's happening in the moon. Okay,
- 22:01Speaker 2: let's keep going around. What did you owe the second
- 22:03Speaker 2: go round? We haven't finish the second. I'll I can't
- 22:08Speaker 2: wait for the third.
- 22:11Speaker 1: We just simply can't wait. Let's spoil what the third
- 22:13Speaker 1: might be if we were to do a third go round?
- 22:15Speaker 1: What win's best actress for you? That's the third go round?
- 22:20Speaker 2: Centivizes me to finish the second? Okay, So we have
- 22:24Speaker 2: a producer.
- 22:25Speaker 3: We have another producer, and I'm a producer. I was
- 22:31Speaker 3: a big producer at a studio that won't be named, but.
- 22:35Speaker 4: Would you give it a code name if you could?
- 22:38Speaker 2: Bisney? I worked for Bisney. You think kids called a
- 22:43Speaker 2: wicked I worked for Bisney.
- 22:47Speaker 1: Let's just call it that because there's a lot of
- 22:50Speaker 1: business at Disney.
- 22:52Speaker 3: So I worked for Bisney. And the thing is I
- 22:55Speaker 3: had a blast over there. I was having so much fun.
- 22:58Speaker 3: I was the producer and I was the main one
- 23:00Speaker 3: in charges. I was in charge of making most of
- 23:02Speaker 3: the female characters thicker.
- 23:07Speaker 2: The agent nickname but not your alias. I said, let's
- 23:15Speaker 2: give them some legs. Please, come on, let's put some
- 23:17Speaker 2: meat on those bones.
- 23:19Speaker 4: Dump dump in the trunk, Dump the trunk, trunk, beginning
- 23:23Speaker 4: Agent is here before dunk in the trunk.
- 23:27Speaker 3: Yes, yes, they didn't like me very much. But I
- 23:29Speaker 3: got a lot of stuff done. And I'll say everything
- 23:32Speaker 3: that I added actually went straight into wreck at Ralph.
- 23:35Speaker 3: When we thick that guy's media characters in modern cinema
- 23:40Speaker 3: hands down, thickest fingers, thinkest, thickest hands, thickest head, thick
- 23:44Speaker 3: neck characters. I do find myself funny for thicker characters.
- 23:49Speaker 3: I love size. I love it's beautiful. I I I
- 23:52Speaker 3: like an interesting body that has more mysteries than the
- 23:56Speaker 3: Magna carta.
- 23:57Speaker 2: You know what I mean, I don't.
- 24:00Speaker 4: Yes, yes, I know exactly what. Yes, Yes, I've got
- 24:05Speaker 4: this conversation so inspiring it makes me want to go
- 24:07Speaker 4: vote right now.
- 24:07Speaker 2: I just want to right now. Oh my god, I
- 24:12Speaker 2: just want to sleep through a movie right now. That's
- 24:14Speaker 2: all I want to do.
- 24:14Speaker 3: Wait, oh, here, here, we'll do a mini vote to say,
- 24:16Speaker 3: siate us pick a finger, vote for one of my fingers.
- 24:19Speaker 2: Wait, wait, wait, wait, I want to know what other
- 24:21Speaker 2: people are feeling.
- 24:23Speaker 4: Wait, wait have you. Let's pull up Vulture and see
- 24:25Speaker 4: if anyone else did anybody?
- 24:28Speaker 5: But wait first, I need to know what everyone else
- 24:30Speaker 5: is thinking. And is any finger Emma Stone so on?
- 24:33Speaker 4: First, on first glance, I'm thinking middle Finger. But but
- 24:39Speaker 4: it's early. I could have it could have just been
- 24:41Speaker 4: the time of day I saw it. I was a
- 24:42Speaker 4: little sleepy.
- 24:43Speaker 2: Now I have to go to the Chateau marm talking
- 24:45Speaker 2: about I just watched Pinky fully for a minute there,
- 24:49Speaker 2: and I was taken in by its subtle approach to
- 24:53Speaker 2: size for.
- 24:54Speaker 4: The audio listener, really, because I thought it was derivative
- 24:57Speaker 4: at first glance, breaking new to me, derivative of the
- 25:01Speaker 4: other four fingers that came before.
- 25:02Speaker 1: And I thought they were making a statement about how
- 25:04Speaker 1: derivative actually works.
- 25:06Speaker 2: Derivative is to be yourself.
- 25:08Speaker 4: Is anyone else saying that, because I could take that
- 25:11Speaker 4: opinion if other people are saying it, I've.
- 25:13Speaker 1: Heard it, and that's not my opinion. And I've heard it.
- 25:15Speaker 1: Breaking news. Pinky has been accused of sexual disconduct. We
- 25:20Speaker 1: can ignore, we can ignore it, we can ignore it,
- 25:22Speaker 1: we can ignore. Tired, we will, we will.
- 25:28Speaker 4: Actually, you know, I actually really disliked Pinky Finger from
- 25:31Speaker 4: the moment. I don't think I've ever all their work
- 25:35Speaker 4: has always been for me. Just face to me.
- 25:38Speaker 2: It's deva, it's just derivative.
- 25:40Speaker 4: I've always said that we'll.
- 25:41Speaker 1: Look past it, but it's mostly about their work. Now
- 25:44Speaker 1: I'm gonna for it because I'm tired.
- 25:47Speaker 2: Okay, Okay, you know what.
- 25:49Speaker 4: Well, we can't discount Finger, Big Finger, Thumb. Yes, not
- 25:57Speaker 4: a lot of people are talking about them, but we
- 25:59Speaker 4: have to remember there are other voters, not just in America,
- 26:02Speaker 4: perhaps in Canada, perhaps in Europe.
- 26:05Speaker 2: Can you never know about them? I love Thumb.
- 26:07Speaker 1: It was by far the best movie of the year,
- 26:09Speaker 1: and I'm not going to vote for it. I'm just
- 26:11Speaker 1: not going to vote for it because for.
- 26:12Speaker 4: Me, because you no, go ahead.
- 26:15Speaker 1: It's the box office isn't there. So for me to
- 26:18Speaker 1: take it in, it has to be the best movie
- 26:20Speaker 1: I've ever seen. And when I vote for it, I
- 26:22Speaker 1: have to know that people also know what it is.
- 26:24Speaker 5: Can I tell you this, because we've been talking about
- 26:27Speaker 5: my My thought process is because we've been talking about
- 26:29Speaker 5: Pinky for so long. I'm going to vote for Pinky
- 26:31Speaker 5: just because we've been talking about sides. But the Finger
- 26:34Speaker 5: I like the most. I'm actually gonna give best screenplay
- 26:36Speaker 5: or director, which is index.
- 26:38Speaker 1: Yes, Yeah, we give best screenplay and director to the
- 26:41Speaker 1: best film.
- 26:41Speaker 3: Breaking news, breaking news, Ring Figure came out as gay, okay,
- 26:46Speaker 3: and I've.
- 26:47Speaker 2: Always thought that.
- 26:49Speaker 4: Was doing something incredible.
- 26:52Speaker 5: I thought that this anime, is he gay on screen
- 26:54Speaker 5: or behind the camera?
- 26:57Speaker 4: And what's the difference, really is how I think about it.
- 27:00Speaker 4: What's the difference? Because there's so much queer about Pinky Fingers,
- 27:05Speaker 4: so much, and it was so clear and I saw
- 27:08Speaker 4: that on first watch. It's always been there. I'm voting for.
- 27:11Speaker 2: Now that you said Fingers gay is Emma Stone with
- 27:15Speaker 2: ring Finger. No, I don't know who to vote for. Okay,
- 27:20Speaker 2: quick vote, quick.
- 27:22Speaker 1: Vote, Okay, I'm walking in a middle finger. Okay, what
- 27:27Speaker 1: we never talked about and it was right down the line,
- 27:31Speaker 1: hit all the boxes, but never risked a thing, hit
- 27:34Speaker 1: all risked a thing, a thing middle finger called what we.
- 27:38Speaker 3: Call middle finger, pulled what we call a ring. Nope,
- 27:43Speaker 3: I got it, guys, hold on, middle finger pulled what
- 27:45Speaker 3: we call a green book.
- 27:47Speaker 2: Oh oh my god. I couldn't handle that.
- 27:51Speaker 4: And this is what happens. You saw it in real time.
- 27:53Speaker 4: The artsy movies split the vote, and eventually we go
- 27:59Speaker 4: right to.
- 27:59Speaker 2: The anything to anything is not going to win an oscar.
- 28:04Speaker 2: If we've talked about it for too long, we're moving on.
- 28:06Speaker 2: That's right.
- 28:07Speaker 4: If we've talked about it for too long, then other
- 28:09Speaker 4: people have talked about it for too long and everyone
- 28:12Speaker 4: said it and that's the basic opinion. And I can't
- 28:14Speaker 4: have that.
- 28:14Speaker 5: I want to say, I love your work. Just adding
- 28:18Speaker 5: different sizes to films. Thank you at Disney.
- 28:21Speaker 2: I think it's important. I think it's very important that
- 28:23Speaker 2: you do. Let's finish the round.
- 28:24Speaker 5: Okay, producer, producer, producer, I am used to be a
- 28:28Speaker 5: baby girl.
- 28:29Speaker 2: I used to be a producer. Okay, yes, but get
- 28:33Speaker 2: this one, baby girl. Oh, get to work, Get to work,
- 28:38Speaker 2: Get to work.
- 28:39Speaker 5: Yes, workers, coup workers, cope, get meal, penalty for grace,
- 28:45Speaker 5: put your sandwich down.
- 28:46Speaker 2: Those are for the actors. That's interesting one. They're always
- 28:50Speaker 2: saying that I don't know if they are. I don't
- 28:53Speaker 2: know you. I've never heard that from another life. Image down.
- 29:00Speaker 2: Those are for the actors.
- 29:02Speaker 1: Ship line producers saying, truly, I think you guys. Ship
- 29:07Speaker 1: line producers say dot com is it's so good?
- 29:10Speaker 4: Married that funny mess? This line producers say, dot com very.
- 29:25Speaker 2: Very money memes.
- 29:27Speaker 4: You know what I love? You know where the funniest
- 29:30Speaker 4: memes that tickle me. It's called Gaffstagram. It's out for gaffers.
- 29:37Speaker 2: When I was in the hospital, I did was go
- 29:40Speaker 2: on it is so good the memes that they're coming
- 29:46Speaker 2: out good.
- 29:47Speaker 4: Did you see the guy who made the Mona Lisa
- 29:49Speaker 4: out of gaff tape and went me when I'm waiting
- 29:51Speaker 4: for us to do a company more.
- 29:56Speaker 1: I love the gafstagram when it's it's a photo of
- 29:59Speaker 1: key eating a sad sandwich and it says me when
- 30:03Speaker 1: the call location is on the east side and I
- 30:06Speaker 1: live in Venice, very smart smart hour.
- 30:14Speaker 2: I felt like.
- 30:16Speaker 1: I felt like an hour because it was so smart.
- 30:21Speaker 2: It felt so long because it was so smart.
- 30:23Speaker 4: I feel like I've aged a century.
- 30:26Speaker 2: I'm speaking of talking to them this year. By the way, gaffers,
- 30:28Speaker 2: I've never tried it. Don't don't. You don't want to
- 30:31Speaker 2: hear what they believe? Who do you guys?
- 30:34Speaker 4: Use on gaffers believe should never be tad out, believe.
- 30:42Speaker 2: I believe in something, and you don't want to know.
- 30:44Speaker 4: Believe in two things very strongly and very surely, and
- 30:49Speaker 4: they are at odds with each other.
- 30:50Speaker 2: You don't want I believe you. I don't want to
- 30:54Speaker 2: hear believe. I have a question.
- 30:56Speaker 5: Yeah, what is everyone's way of keeping during a season?
- 31:01Speaker 2: Oh?
- 31:02Speaker 5: Oh, because I mean I famously Still they send me
- 31:05Speaker 5: a scantron when I vote right for.
- 31:09Speaker 2: Famous Yeah, famous famously.
- 31:11Speaker 4: I get a scan and we do get to request
- 31:13Speaker 4: how we vote.
- 31:14Speaker 2: Yeah, they want to cater to us.
- 31:16Speaker 4: You know, we we get to say, you know, I'll
- 31:18Speaker 4: take the Google form. Some of us do a doodle,
- 31:21Speaker 4: some of us do paper votes.
- 31:22Speaker 2: We're really into this app that they're launching for us. Oh,
- 31:25Speaker 2: I don't like the app and it's connected to the
- 31:27Speaker 2: soho house.
- 31:28Speaker 5: Yeah, and sometimes I'm like trying to make a reservation,
- 31:31Speaker 5: but I voted for freaking I don't know.
- 31:32Speaker 4: I hate when movies use the computer.
- 31:36Speaker 2: I hate that. I hate that you guys get streaming
- 31:39Speaker 2: or do you get the links?
- 31:40Speaker 7: No?
- 31:40Speaker 2: No, I get the DVDs.
- 31:42Speaker 3: But I want to tell you, you guys need to
- 31:44Speaker 3: use the accommodations for voting, because I get to use
- 31:47Speaker 3: the accommodations and I get to do a puppy style.
- 31:49Speaker 3: And puppy style is they put all of them out
- 31:51Speaker 3: and they put a treat, and I get to pick
- 31:53Speaker 3: the treat. And so I walk in and they put
- 31:55Speaker 3: all the bulls and I go for everything drives you
- 31:57Speaker 3: towards a tree. Oh, it's just it's just I just
- 32:00Speaker 3: get to choose, and I know what I'm choosing, but
- 32:02Speaker 3: I get a little treat while they do it.
- 32:04Speaker 2: It's so fun.
- 32:05Speaker 3: And they do this in the Academy Museum.
- 32:09Speaker 2: Yeah, pick puppy side. They do it in the Spike
- 32:12Speaker 2: Lee room.
- 32:12Speaker 4: You do it in the same way that we filmed
- 32:15Speaker 4: dogs as as a as a gagems.
- 32:20Speaker 2: But that's true. Yeah, it was. It was so fun
- 32:23Speaker 2: to pick Timothy shallow May this year as the well,
- 32:26Speaker 2: can we talk about it? Why don't we talk about
- 32:28Speaker 2: the films this year? I'm gonna get up a list. Yes,
- 32:32Speaker 2: that's a really good idea.
- 32:34Speaker 1: I think we've got just a list, just.
- 32:38Speaker 5: A list, he Alexa list, Emma Stones movie catalog.
- 32:43Speaker 2: Alexa, pull up a list of movies we're going to
- 32:46Speaker 2: be here. Hey, hey, Alexa. Could be longer than the
- 32:49Speaker 2: me there it is. It should be booked marked.
- 32:52Speaker 3: Okay, there's a lot of fantastic movies and we should
- 32:55Speaker 3: give our uh, our, our unfiltered opinion on what we
- 33:00Speaker 3: think is gonna win.
- 33:01Speaker 5: Do you think it's gonna come out after? And we
- 33:03Speaker 5: have aliases, so they're not gonna know who we are.
- 33:05Speaker 4: No one's going to know. No one could come to
- 33:07Speaker 4: our hole.
- 33:07Speaker 1: This is the unfiltered Who's gonna win the Oscars this year?
- 33:11Speaker 1: Prediction from Academy voters. Here it is, Yes, Okay, should
- 33:16Speaker 1: we start with the big one? Best picture?
- 33:18Speaker 2: Best Picture? Let's start with the biggest one.
- 33:20Speaker 4: Let's start with the biggest one and then go down
- 33:21Speaker 4: until we get tired.
- 33:22Speaker 2: Okay, three, say it on? One? Ready? Okay, wait, let
- 33:25Speaker 2: me get one, okay, all right? Three? Three two?
- 33:30Speaker 1: One?
- 33:33Speaker 2: Okay, So what did everyone say.
- 33:34Speaker 4: Round Robin, I said Wicked, because I hated that movie
- 33:39Speaker 4: for about forty three minutes and then something happened and
- 33:43Speaker 4: I can't explain it, but my entire ship movie experience shifted.
- 33:47Speaker 4: It was as if as if Glinda Glinda said something
- 33:51Speaker 4: that that really reshaped my entire perspective and I think
- 33:54Speaker 4: it was the best movie of the year. And I'm
- 33:56Speaker 4: voting Wicked.
- 33:57Speaker 2: Wow.
- 33:58Speaker 4: Well, the movie I saw was called.
- 34:00Speaker 3: I need to check that out. I need to check
- 34:02Speaker 3: out Wicked and Vicked. Because I've only seen Wicked. I'm
- 34:06Speaker 3: voting the Brutalist. I haven't seen it, but it won
- 34:08Speaker 3: some Golden Globes and it.
- 34:10Speaker 1: Looks superb and the little blurbs that they did the

- 39:58Speaker 2: Go around? You don't but we can't stop.
- 40:01Speaker 3: Look alive the go rounds coming. You want to get on,
- 40:03Speaker 3: Get on the train.
- 40:05Speaker 4: You know. Fun fact about a go round pilots when
- 40:09Speaker 4: they are taking off and it's going badly, they'll do

- 40:19Speaker 2: I wonder it just felt bad. Let's go ahead again.

- 40:33Speaker 2: Fun fun?
- 40:34Speaker 1: I got a sex worker from Anora and I didn't
- 40:38Speaker 1: know what to do with whoa.
- 40:43Speaker 5: Because it happened to you for the listener at home
- 40:45Speaker 5: an f y C event for your consideration, right, Sometimes
- 40:48Speaker 5: they give you schwag that is like in the theme
- 40:51Speaker 5: of the movie, so you think about the movie.
- 40:52Speaker 3: They schmooze you with rubies and pearls, try to gloss
- 40:56Speaker 3: over their hackey editing.
- 40:57Speaker 2: Listen, I voted for Snakes on a Plane like twenty
- 41:00Speaker 2: years ago, just because the mug was great. Yeah, that's true,
- 41:03Speaker 2: it's true. Did everybody get I.
- 41:04Speaker 4: Got a sleep number soda coffin from No Speratu. Yes,
- 41:11Speaker 4: it's dark, very dark in there, but best sleep I've
- 41:14Speaker 4: ever gotten in my life. But my voice changes when
- 41:19Speaker 4: I'm in it.
- 41:21Speaker 5: How scary?
- 41:22Speaker 4: When I'm in it, I become a bass okay, and
- 41:27Speaker 4: so that's what happened. That's what happened. It's real and
- 41:32Speaker 4: it happened to me. But it's my favorite because I
- 41:34Speaker 4: can sleep for what feels like centuries.
- 41:36Speaker 2: Wow, that's amazing.
- 41:38Speaker 3: They sent me the substance. They turned into a young guy.
- 41:40Speaker 3: Go to club dv E and I dance all night.

- 41:51Speaker 2: Right that real? Fas.
- 41:54Speaker 4: I wish we could vote for Kiss FM for Best
- 41:56Speaker 4: Pat me too.
- 41:58Speaker 1: I keep telling them Ryan in there, we'd all vote
- 42:01Speaker 1: for you.
- 42:01Speaker 4: I'll vote for you.
- 42:02Speaker 2: Just submit.
- 42:03Speaker 4: No, you'll never win Best Picture if you don't submitt.
- 42:05Speaker 5: Riyan's Roses is perfect for Best Comedy or Musical.
- 42:09Speaker 3: It is perfect and it's comedy and it's actually drama.
- 42:12Speaker 3: And then they play music like people like Sabrina. See,
- 42:16Speaker 3: so it's acting exactly anyone.
- 42:19Speaker 2: But you sent me a bikini.
- 42:21Speaker 1: Oh wow, wow for the uh huh, I actually saw that,
- 42:26Speaker 1: but you put it on your own paka, I saw that.
- 42:34Speaker 2: Wait wait, wait, can I tell you I don't want
- 42:36Speaker 2: to talk about that?
- 42:36Speaker 4: No?
- 42:39Speaker 5: Can I tell you guys a notty secret, Yes, yes,
- 42:41Speaker 5: naughty secret time. Okay, let's talk about things we shouldn't
- 42:44Speaker 5: do when we're voting that okay, Because I'm gonna say one,
- 42:48Speaker 5: I never vote for Best Original Song.
- 42:50Speaker 2: I leave it blank. No, wow, wow, I leave it blank.
- 42:54Speaker 4: Because Emma doesn't sing, and because I don't know.
- 43:00Speaker 2: I just I don't care.
- 43:03Speaker 1: Yeah, I like the song, I do. I like the song,
- 43:08Speaker 1: but I love when they play the songs. They do
- 43:10Speaker 1: a live version of the song at the Place.
- 43:12Speaker 4: And that makes me go, I should have voted for that.
- 43:15Speaker 1: I love, by the way, when they do the song
- 43:18Speaker 1: at the place. I love going to the place.
- 43:20Speaker 2: The place.
- 43:21Speaker 4: That's what we call the Oscars, the place, the place.
- 43:24Speaker 5: When I'm at the Oscars, I'm wearing like a service
- 43:27Speaker 5: animal thing where it's like she's working.
- 43:33Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 43:34Speaker 4: I wear mine to the movies, don't don't get don't.
- 43:40Speaker 2: The actors, everyone.
- 43:41Speaker 5: Else, all the filmmakers are enjoying the night because it's
- 43:43Speaker 5: night of celebration, but I'm working.
- 43:44Speaker 2: Does that ever make you sad?
- 43:46Speaker 4: So Holly's Biggest Night we're employees.
- 43:50Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, do not pet meaning hold the weight of it,
- 43:55Speaker 5: because sometimes uh something will win something And I go, whoops.
- 43:59Speaker 2: I mean we have real way.
- 44:01Speaker 1: You know.
- 44:01Speaker 3: It's when you're going to the Dolby Theater, which is
- 44:03Speaker 3: where the place happens. You look all over and there
- 44:07Speaker 3: is actually the movie that won that Year's on the wall.
- 44:11Speaker 3: Is enshrined on the wall. It goes all the way
- 44:13Speaker 3: back to the first Oscar Ever Wings, It goes all
- 44:16Speaker 3: the way back to nineteen twenty seven.
- 44:17Speaker 2: And I walk by.
- 44:18Speaker 5: Green Book every time and I go, tis we do well?
- 44:22Speaker 1: You know, here's a little dirty secret too. Okay, how
- 44:26Speaker 1: many of us are watching the short film documentaries? Oh yeah,
- 44:32Speaker 1: I'm just choosing the one with the best name, with
- 44:34Speaker 1: the most animal like name.
- 44:36Speaker 2: I love the most animal like names. Animal in the name.
- 44:39Speaker 3: I'm voting for it. Can we talk about it. Short
- 44:42Speaker 3: films shouldn't be at the Oscars. This is for adults.
- 44:44Speaker 3: Short films are the children of movies.
- 44:46Speaker 4: If a movie is shorter than ninety minutes, it's for babies.
- 44:50Speaker 2: Oh, I didn't know this was Oscars, Junior. They don't
- 44:53Speaker 2: know that. I'll tell you this. They don't give micheline
- 44:55Speaker 2: stars to snacks exact.
- 45:01Speaker 4: We gotta don't let kids.
- 45:04Speaker 2: It's for restaurants.
- 45:05Speaker 4: This is a no kid's wedding. We cannot be let
- 45:10Speaker 4: these kids.
- 45:11Speaker 1: In the Technical Awards. Yeah, how am I ever going
- 45:17Speaker 1: to choose that?
- 45:18Speaker 2: Yeah? This is the best color design.
- 45:21Speaker 3: What they said the other year, they were like, oh,
- 45:23Speaker 3: we're adding sound mixing on top of sound editing.
- 45:25Speaker 2: And I said, what is the difference?
- 45:27Speaker 4: And that's where I ren tell the difference. Not all
- 45:30Speaker 4: of us are on sound mixing versus design versus editing stogram,
- 45:35Speaker 4: but that's where I bring good account.
- 45:37Speaker 2: It is a good account, But that's where I bring
- 45:39Speaker 2: in my dice.
- 45:39Speaker 5: Do you guys have dice twenty on sound editing?
- 45:44Speaker 2: And just go real?
- 45:46Speaker 1: I do left right center. Have you ever played that?
- 45:48Speaker 1: And so how does that work with selecting a movie?
- 45:50Speaker 3: So I put it on a marker and I go
- 45:52Speaker 3: left roll and it goes left right, left, right, left right,
- 45:55Speaker 3: and if the little star comes up, that's what I
- 45:56Speaker 3: vote for.
- 45:57Speaker 2: Wow.
- 45:57Speaker 4: I do lottery styles. So I play the Coulifornia Lottery
- 46:00Speaker 4: and then whoever wins the California Lottery, I look at
- 46:03Speaker 4: a picture of them, and then I whichever filmmaker looks
- 46:07Speaker 4: the most like the lottery winner. They that's why I
- 46:10Speaker 4: love that.
- 46:10Speaker 2: I do hide and seek raccoons.
- 46:12Speaker 1: So I get a bunch of raccoons and I paint
- 46:14Speaker 1: tape the movie back the poster to the back of
- 46:17Speaker 1: the raccoon, and I let them go faral in my house.
- 46:20Speaker 1: And the last one I found is the last one
- 46:23Speaker 1: that wins.
- 46:25Speaker 2: Nanny in my building? Is this a tangent or nanny?
- 46:31Speaker 2: And I just think she's beach?
- 46:35Speaker 1: Okay, you have a question. Well, we were going to
- 46:39Speaker 1: talk about the get a real job, beach. We're not
- 46:43Speaker 1: talking about anything about that. Worry about what wins best
- 46:48Speaker 1: a baby, babysitter or tutor?
- 46:52Speaker 4: What that funk are you doing?
- 46:58Speaker 2: I do have I do a push back.
- 47:00Speaker 4: I think that nannies are a real job. No, no, pair,
- 47:04Speaker 4: I think Okay, I would pause it. What bitch?
- 47:09Speaker 2: Sometimes she's stealing my backage?
- 47:11Speaker 4: Okay, So that's why you don't like her, because you
- 47:16Speaker 4: live in or live out, I don't know, because of
- 47:19Speaker 4: a job.
- 47:20Speaker 3: And you decide, you decide the oscars the disguise.
- 47:24Speaker 2: Oh that's been a movie with about a nanny?
- 47:26Speaker 4: Bitch?
- 47:27Speaker 2: Okay, what time?
- 47:32Speaker 3: Oh, we're gonna have about ten minutes.
- 47:35Speaker 1: Well that's crazy because it feels like we would doing
- 47:36Speaker 1: this for two hours. What what let's do the final
- 47:41Speaker 1: go around or not the final go around?
- 47:42Speaker 2: What another go around?
- 47:44Speaker 4: Is?
- 47:44Speaker 2: What makes best actress best actress? In your mind?
- 47:48Speaker 1: You know my answer into the acting portion of this,
- 47:50Speaker 1: What makes act out? The actress went for you? Best supporting?
- 47:54Speaker 1: Best supporting? Is there a difference?
- 47:55Speaker 2: I want to dive.
- 47:58Speaker 4: May best act your best actress. It's makeup so that
- 48:02Speaker 4: they look a little uglier than they are. Oh yeah,
- 48:05Speaker 4: whoever picks the most makeup that looks a little uglier
- 48:08Speaker 4: than they are are the win.
- 48:10Speaker 2: Uh, there's there's a jumping out for you this year.
- 48:13Speaker 4: Oh I couldn't call it woman ugly. You won't catch
- 48:16Speaker 4: me on camera calling a woman ugly. But just no,
- 48:18Speaker 4: there's an answer, and I have it up here.
- 48:20Speaker 2: Well here's what.
- 48:21Speaker 3: There is a real statistic out there, and I don't
- 48:24Speaker 3: remember the actual statistic, but something along them like the
- 48:27Speaker 3: lines of like maybe upwards of eighty percent of people
- 48:30Speaker 3: who have won the Best Acting Award at the Oscars
- 48:33Speaker 3: has played some sort of disabled person in the last
- 48:35Speaker 3: one hundred years.
- 48:36Speaker 2: Like it's like crazy.
- 48:37Speaker 4: This is real.
- 48:38Speaker 2: It's a transformational role.
- 48:39Speaker 3: It's it's transformational role. And this is how water we're
- 48:42Speaker 3: talking about. But that is that's a real thing.
- 48:44Speaker 1: And I'm hook linen zinc that you are voting that way.
- 48:48Speaker 2: I go, you're acting different than you are and that
- 48:50Speaker 2: seems hard.
- 48:51Speaker 3: That must be hard. Yeah, it's kind of an a
- 48:54Speaker 3: for effort thing for me. If you look like you're working,
- 48:57Speaker 3: that's what I like.
- 48:58Speaker 2: Yeah, I love to see the acting. Yeah for me, Yes,
- 49:02Speaker 2: for me.
- 49:02Speaker 5: Supporting well main, okay, best featured or what is it?
- 49:06Speaker 2: Best? Lead, lead actor, lead actress or lead female.
- 49:09Speaker 1: I like to say female actor now, and I agree
- 49:12Speaker 1: I have a daughter, But I'll say.
- 49:15Speaker 5: Both of those categories are the ones that are arbitrary
- 49:18Speaker 5: to me. They usually go to my favorites, oldie favorites
- 49:21Speaker 5: or Emma. Supporting is when I care. Wow, that's who
- 49:25Speaker 5: I actually look for a good actor.
- 49:27Speaker 3: I don't interrupt you. This is a big moment. You
- 49:29Speaker 3: have a you have an eyelash. Would you like to
- 49:30Speaker 3: make a wish an eyelash on your face? Do you
- 49:33Speaker 3: know what I'm gonna wish? I want you guys to guess.
- 49:40Speaker 4: Okay, it's either ammastone, or it's bitch nanny.
- 49:43Speaker 2: I hope Emma Stone kills that. Now that is an
- 49:51Speaker 2: Oscar winning movie.
- 49:52Speaker 5: Now that's an Oscar wish.
- 49:55Speaker 2: She cuts a rare.
- 49:59Speaker 5: A cuts her own if Emma cuts her hair, Oh, no,
- 50:02Speaker 5: her own hair. If Amma cuts her hair where she sings,
- 50:04Speaker 5: or she kills that bitch nanny.
- 50:07Speaker 4: Have you ever gotten to meet Emma?
- 50:09Speaker 2: No?
- 50:13Speaker 4: One day when that's part of a struggle. We have
- 50:15Speaker 4: to stay so separate. We have to stay. I keep
- 50:17Speaker 4: myself in an isolation chamber on the night you Yeah,
- 50:20Speaker 4: because I want to remain.
- 50:22Speaker 1: Have you guys, ever gotten the actors and actresses trying
- 50:24Speaker 1: to come up and bribe you personally?
- 50:26Speaker 2: Yeah? Well they're agents, definitely.
- 50:27Speaker 1: Oh the agents are the worst. They can smell blood
- 50:30Speaker 1: in the water and they know I love it.
- 50:31Speaker 4: Ralph Fien's agent was knocking on my bubble boy?
- 50:40Speaker 2: Is that how you're saying, I know they're knocking on
- 50:43Speaker 2: your door. Oh that's a name you've only read.
- 50:51Speaker 4: It's her name I've only read. I never said.
- 50:53Speaker 3: Let's talk about the thirstiest actress here. That a camel
- 50:57Speaker 3: on the ninth Day in the Desert, Anette Benning, You're
- 51:02Speaker 3: not gonna get the oscar.
- 51:03Speaker 2: Leave us alone.
- 51:04Speaker 4: I'm not gonna be eating this edible arrangement. I am
- 51:06Speaker 4: allergic to these fruits.
- 51:08Speaker 2: I can't have tantalope.
- 51:09Speaker 3: Girl, Why do you think Hillary's shows it every time
- 51:11Speaker 3: you want your oscar?
- 51:12Speaker 2: We asked her to.
- 51:13Speaker 5: We ask her to. We say Hillary, calm and that's coming.
- 51:19Speaker 5: Oh yeah, she said me. She said me an edible arrangement,
- 51:21Speaker 5: but no fruit loafs.
- 51:23Speaker 2: Out big loafs. Oh my god. So for me, I
- 51:27Speaker 2: guess what just jumping in back to the best actor.
- 51:30Speaker 1: For me, the best actor, specifically male is the one
- 51:33Speaker 1: who does looks like they had to physically do the
- 51:36Speaker 1: most on set, like Leo in that one movie about
- 51:39Speaker 1: the Winter that looks ruling and hard work his acting.
- 51:46Speaker 5: But I guess we're say that is interesting because I
- 51:49Speaker 5: voted for Leo that year because I'm a big fan
- 51:51Speaker 5: of going Leo doesn't have an oscar yet? Yes, yeah,
- 51:54Speaker 5: I like picking at a high tax bracket, going, yeah,
- 51:56Speaker 5: they don't have.
- 51:57Speaker 2: An oscar yet. That's and I love that they deserve.
- 52:00Speaker 2: I'm the one that gave me. I'm the one that really.
- 52:02Speaker 3: Spirit uh spirit ahead of the campaign to get Whoopy
- 52:05Speaker 3: an Oscar for Ghosts instead of an Oscar for the
- 52:07Speaker 3: color purple, because I said, I like that she's funny
- 52:10Speaker 3: in this. She doesn't really do much, and actually half
- 52:12Speaker 3: the movie she's possessed by Patrick swayzey and we only
- 52:14Speaker 3: see Patrick Swayze But I want to give it to
- 52:16Speaker 3: her because she's done it that they.
- 52:18Speaker 4: Don't have one yet, Multiplier t H d o A.
- 52:23Speaker 4: Why Multiplier who wrote the Descendants?
- 52:27Speaker 2: That was Jim Rash In that fact, I remember going,
- 52:29Speaker 2: he deserves it now?
- 52:30Speaker 3: Yes, yes, well I took my daughter to see them
- 52:32Speaker 3: at the Groundlings and I said they should get an oscar.
- 52:34Speaker 2: Yes, they should get an oscar.
- 52:37Speaker 4: You know, I tend to for men. For male actor
- 52:40Speaker 4: in a lead or supporting role, I tend to vote
- 52:42Speaker 4: for whoever looks the most mean on screen.
- 52:45Speaker 2: Yes, well that's supporting for me. Yes, you are evil.
- 52:49Speaker 1: If you are evil men, I'm going to be interested
- 52:51Speaker 1: in giving you a supporting yes, you know, if.
- 52:53Speaker 4: They were mean to people on set.
- 52:55Speaker 3: Have you been taking some of these Academy generals? Have
- 52:59Speaker 3: you been taking them and getting some where people would come.
- 53:01Speaker 3: They come to meet me and they say, hey, I
- 53:03Speaker 3: want to put kind of across your table.
- 53:05Speaker 2: I want to show across your desk. I might be
- 53:07Speaker 2: playing a joker and I say I'd vote for it.
- 53:09Speaker 3: Yes, I'm seen a lot of people are coming up
- 53:11Speaker 3: to me saying, would you give me an Oscar if
- 53:13Speaker 3: I voted?
- 53:13Speaker 2: If you if I was a joker. And I always
- 53:15Speaker 2: see a lot of these big actors.
- 53:16Speaker 5: They're taking movies for the Oscar track at this level
- 53:20Speaker 5: in their game, right where Denzel will take something if
- 53:23Speaker 5: he's going to do an Oscar campaign for it, Yes, exactly.
- 53:26Speaker 5: So sometimes I think they won't even attach themselves to
- 53:29Speaker 5: a script unless it has bait.
- 53:31Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 53:32Speaker 4: Yes, And sometimes you know, sometimes I go nown forward
- 53:36Speaker 4: if there's a noun in the title that I like,
- 53:39Speaker 4: shape of water. I love water, Yes, I love water.
- 53:42Speaker 2: Glog glug glug glug glug, glugging it up.
- 53:45Speaker 4: That's what really got me here.
- 53:47Speaker 2: What was the one that was in black and white?
- 53:49Speaker 2: The d that was such a choice. I went, all right,
- 53:52Speaker 2: I'm done, I'm not going to vote this.
- 53:54Speaker 3: I love the artist. I love that, and you see
- 53:56Speaker 3: it in the trailer and then I don't have to
- 53:58Speaker 3: watch it. You save me the vote. Yeah, it's great.
- 54:01Speaker 2: How do we feel about everything, everywhere, all at once.
- 54:04Speaker 4: I love that someday.
- 54:07Speaker 2: I love the trailer, and I voted right for it.
- 54:10Speaker 4: I voted for it. I voted right for a laundronat
- 54:14Speaker 4: and nothing else.
- 54:15Speaker 5: Yes, Jimmy Lee Curtis is an like she's paving the
- 54:18Speaker 5: way for an old Emma.
- 54:20Speaker 4: Yeah, yes, she got a they don't have it yet multiplier.
- 54:24Speaker 2: And absolutely she did. Absolutely they don't have it yet.
- 54:29Speaker 5: Well, guys, I just want to say, this is about

- 54:34Speaker 2: Right, oh boy, I everybody get we're best on, put
- 54:41Speaker 2: your work, put your best on. But I want to
- 54:42Speaker 2: say thank you. This is all. Every year is good.
- 54:45Speaker 5: Next year I might just you know, I don't know,
- 54:47Speaker 5: let my toddler vote for it or something.

- 55:08Speaker 2: invited me, I'm gonna vote for it.
- 55:10Speaker 4: I'm gonna vote for it.
- 55:11Speaker 1: Wow.
- 55:11Speaker 4: But I'm a little cold right now, so I don't
- 55:13Speaker 4: think i'll vote for whoa.
- 55:16Speaker 2: Oh my god, Oh my god, what does the pope say?
