- 0:12Speaker 1: This episode is a very special holiday episode. And it's
- 0:16Speaker 1: even more special because it's an exclusive Horror Club episode.
- 0:20Speaker 1: And actually, that is pretty special. I started thinking about
- 0:23Speaker 1: it this past week, and we've settled into doing Life
- 0:26Speaker 1: Day episodes for the last several years, which I guess
- 0:30Speaker 1: we don't have to worry about doing a new Star
- 0:31Speaker 1: Wars movie this year. And then I thought about it
- 0:33Speaker 1: some more, and it's been even longer since we've done
- 0:36Speaker 1: a horror-themed holiday episode. And actually, that's the fires we
- 0:41Speaker 1: were forged in, because this month is also the anniversary
- 0:44Speaker 1: of our very first episode. That's right, our very first
- 0:48Speaker 1: episode was in December, and that very first episode, we
- 0:51Speaker 1: watched a holiday-themed horror movie. So it's all come full
- 0:55Speaker 1: circle a dozen years later. That's right, in 2021, we're
- 0:59Speaker 1: going to be crossing over into our 13th year of
- 1:02Speaker 1: the show It's been an amazing ride, and I'm so
- 1:05Speaker 1: glad we've been able to share all this fun and
- 1:08Speaker 1: all these great conversations with you. But of course, all
- 1:11Speaker 1: of this is more fun the more people we have
- 1:13Speaker 1: come along for the ride. So this holiday season, if
- 1:17Speaker 1: you know any movie geeks out there, send them a message.
- 1:20Speaker 1: Get on your social medias, get on your phone and
- 1:23Speaker 1: your apps and your, ah, whatever you kids are using
- 1:26Speaker 1: these days.
- 1:26Speaker 2: Let them know about the show, because there's a lot
- 1:29Speaker 2: to offer them.
- 1:30Speaker 1: I ballparked it the other day, and we've easily put
- 1:32Speaker 1: together well over 900 hours of content.
- 1:38Speaker 3: 900.
- 1:38Speaker 2: That is a lot to offer.
- 1:39Speaker 1: Someone out there. And, you know, maybe one or two
- 1:41Speaker 1: of them might actually like it. But regardless, it is
- 1:44Speaker 1: a huge gift to give someone this holiday season. So
- 1:47Speaker 1: feel free.
- 1:48Speaker 2: They're out there.
- 1:49Speaker 1: Majority of them are free for them to listen to.
- 1:51Speaker 1: So go ahead, spread the word.
- 1:54Speaker 2: Let somebody know about the show.
- 1:56Speaker 1: But of course, if you're already familiar with us and
- 1:58Speaker 1: you want to be super cool, Join the Meltdown Horror Club,
- 2:02Speaker 1: because not only will you be supporting the show and
- 2:04Speaker 1: helping us cover operating costs, which is essential these days,
- 2:08Speaker 1: but you will also be getting exclusive episodes that only
- 2:11Speaker 1: club members have access to. Amazing episodes like this latest one,
- 2:15Speaker 1: where not only do we have fun holiday discussions, but
- 2:19Speaker 1: we also question some really interesting issues that come up
- 2:22Speaker 1: in this movie.
- 2:23Speaker 2: And of course, along the way, we say.
- 2:25Speaker 1: Awesome things like this.
- 2:29Speaker 2: We're decked out. Look, the Christmas lights everywhere.
- 2:32Speaker 1: This giant aluminum purple tree. I've decided to go the
- 2:37Speaker 1: other way on the Peanuts Christmas. Usually I have the
- 2:39Speaker 1: Charlie Brown tree, but I'm going big aluminum Christmas tree
- 2:42Speaker 1: this year. So it's just, it's overwhelmingly Christmas-y in here,
- 2:46Speaker 1: you guys.
- 2:48Speaker 4: Because when the internet eventually collapses in on itself, which
- 2:52Speaker 4: it will, and people want to watch Shaun of the Dead,
- 2:56Speaker 4: we're good to go at my house.
- 2:59Speaker 1: But wouldn't you have extra copies at, I don't know, Christmas?
- 3:03Speaker 5: Right.
- 3:04Speaker 2: Nowhere. I went like four places.
- 3:06Speaker 1: Which, granted, there's only about four places that carry DVDs anymore.
- 3:10Speaker 3: I had to wait ten minutes at the Red Box
- 3:13Speaker 3: for another person.
- 3:15Speaker 2: To get their movie. Which was fine. Take your time.
- 3:19Speaker 2: Pick out something. But I'm like, who goes to these?
- 3:21Speaker 2: You know?
- 3:23Speaker 1: That's kind of true at this point. It's rare that
- 3:26Speaker 1: I know anybody that goes to Red Box.
- 3:29Speaker 2: The same script outline. Sure they do.
- 3:33Speaker 5: I think at Hallmark they even just use the same sets.
- 3:37Speaker 2: It's just a constant year round.
- 3:39Speaker 1: It's like the old studio where they used to have
- 3:40Speaker 1: the western town and just everybody rolled in and used it.
- 3:43Speaker 1: Now it's just the small town set up for Christmas
- 3:46Speaker 1: and they have their, now you two go kiss over
- 3:48Speaker 1: there and we'll shoot it and then the next group
- 3:50Speaker 1: comes in.
- 3:52Speaker 2: Santa Claus, played by a business suit.
- 3:55Speaker 1: Wearing Barry Boswick, This was 2019. This is current era
- 4:00Speaker 1: Barry Boswick wearing a business suit with, like, a green tie.
- 4:03Speaker 2: So that makes him Santa, I guess. He at least
- 4:05Speaker 2: has a big white beard.
- 4:06Speaker 5: No.
- 4:07Speaker 2: What the hell? He's got a little bit of a beard.
- 4:10Speaker 2: Because I'm all for putting Santa in a new outfit.
- 4:13Speaker 2: 2020 has been enough.
- 4:15Speaker 1: He's got kind of a little, like, relatively trimmed beard. And,
- 4:19Speaker 1: you know, he's had white hair for a while now.
- 4:21Speaker 2: So, I mean, I'm like, alright, you're age appropriate, but.
- 4:25Speaker 4: Barry Boswick has grown into someone's lovable, adorable grandpa.
- 4:30Speaker 2: Pretty much. I'm all for him playing.
- 4:32Speaker 1: That was the other reason I got suckered in.
- 4:34Speaker 2: I was like, really? Okay, let's watch this. Does he
- 4:36Speaker 2: wear a fishnet?
- 4:38Speaker 4: Was it Christmastime and Porky's?
- 4:41Speaker 2: I don't think it was. I don't think it was. Well, no,
- 4:43Speaker 2: because they were... It was the end. I think it
- 4:45Speaker 2: was the end of the.
- 4:46Speaker 3: No? Because football was... I don't know.
- 4:50Speaker 2: It doesn't matter. And I saw all these.
- 4:55Speaker 3: Hundreds of reviews for this one.
- 4:57Speaker 2: A lot of talk about this one. For this one.
- 5:00Speaker 4: And I was like, I'm not going to watch any
- 5:01Speaker 4: because I don't want it to taint what we're going
- 5:04Speaker 4: to do on the show.
- 5:06Speaker 3: But I was maybe not surprised, but kind of disgusted
- 5:10Speaker 3: about how many of the reviews, the description of the
- 5:16Speaker 3: review at least, made it look like the movie was anti-men.
- 5:20Speaker 2: Which I feel is a bit of a stretch, but...
- 5:24Speaker 2: I mean, I guess we just need to get into that.
- 5:27Speaker 1: Because there are, like, there's problems on every end of
- 5:32Speaker 1: the scenario. Like, everything involved is problematic. So, and not
- 5:37Speaker 1: in the buzzword way.
- 5:38Speaker 2: In the more basic way, really, to me.
- 5:40Speaker 5: Yeah. I see what they were trying to do, and
- 5:44Speaker 5: they just went about it all in the worst way.
- 5:47Speaker 5: And I was actually surprised to see that, like, women wrote.
- 5:50Speaker 2: And directed it. Because it kind of.
- 5:52Speaker 5: Seemed like something that, like, men would try to make
- 5:55Speaker 5: a feminist movie. See?
- 5:57Speaker 2: We're feminists. That's exactly what I said to my wife.
- 5:59Speaker 2: And she was like, please explain. Because she didn't watch it.
- 6:02Speaker 2: But she was like, please explain that comment.
- 6:04Speaker 3: And I'm like, you'd have to watch it if you
- 6:06Speaker 3: watched it.
- 6:07Speaker 2: They just, like, did it wrong.
- 6:08Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 6:10Speaker 2: Did anyone else.
- 6:11Speaker 4: Feel like they were suddenly watching a different movie when
- 6:13Speaker 4: the security guard shows up at a completely different house where.
- 6:17Speaker 2: Apparently the same bullshit's been happening? They could have set
- 6:20Speaker 2: that up a little bit.
- 6:21Speaker 4: And that's another thing where I was talking about a
- 6:23Speaker 4: minute ago where it's like, hey, why don't you show
- 6:25Speaker 4: us some of what's going on here?
- 6:28Speaker 1: If you're in a normal size, if you're indoors and
- 6:32Speaker 1: in a normal sized room, you know a weapon that's
- 6:35Speaker 1: not a really optimum weapon is a bow and arrow.
- 6:38Speaker 5: I know.
- 6:40Speaker 2: What the.
- 6:42Speaker 5: Yeah, they made all the women just like the worst
- 6:44Speaker 5: type of people. I'm just like, what? I just don't
- 6:48Speaker 5: know what they were trying to do when they were
- 6:50Speaker 5: writing this movie because it's so outwardly obnoxious. They're like
- 6:54Speaker 5: every stereotype of every horrible social justice warrior that everybody
- 6:57Speaker 5: hates on Facebook and stuff. And it's like, what are you.
- 7:02Speaker 2: Exactly.
- 7:03Speaker 5: So the guys, it's not their fault for being rapists
- 7:06Speaker 5: and murderers.
- 7:07Speaker 2: Of course, of course.
- 7:08Speaker 5: And the women are really obnoxious.
- 7:10Speaker 1: All the time.
- 7:10Speaker 2: Which they can't. There you go. There's your movie. And
- 7:12Speaker 2: it's a feminist movie. Like what?
- 7:15Speaker 5: Homegirl with the broken broomstick had so much time to
- 7:18Speaker 5: just sneak up behind the dude with the bone arrow
- 7:21Speaker 5: and just fucking.
- 7:22Speaker 2: Has anyone ever tried to break a broomstick over the knee?
- 7:24Speaker 2: I think you're about to say the same thing I said.
- 7:26Speaker 2: That does not work.
- 7:26Speaker 1: I was like, if you can crack that broomstick over
- 7:29Speaker 1: your knee, you don't need any help.
- 7:31Speaker 2: You're a badass, and you can go kick all those
- 7:33Speaker 2: dudes' asses. Because that would break your damn leg. I
- 7:36Speaker 2: feel like.
- 7:37Speaker 4: I would have been perfectly... My opinion of this movie
- 7:40Speaker 4: would have gone up if she went to break the
- 7:42Speaker 4: knee and went.
- 7:43Speaker 5: God!
- 7:44Speaker 1: Stop!
- 7:45Speaker 4: Stupid!
- 7:47Speaker 5: Like, if you want an example of actual, like, female empowerment.
- 7:51Speaker 2: This is it. Like, this chick... There you go.
- 7:54Speaker 1: Like, even if you don't get into the killer, just
- 7:56Speaker 1: her and her boyfriend arguing about, look, I don't want
- 7:58Speaker 1: to have a kid, you know? It's just like, and
- 8:00Speaker 1: now legally, I don't have to, so this is my choice.
- 8:04Speaker 2: I was like, this is a feminist movie. Like, this
- 8:07Speaker 2: is bullshit.
- 8:08Speaker 5: No.
- 8:08Speaker 1: No. Just if you need to see Lois Lane drunk
- 8:12Speaker 1: for an hour. It's mostly just her drunk off her ass.
- 8:17Speaker 4: So many bad jokes I could make about Margot Kidman.
- 8:20Speaker 2: I'm not going to. No, no.
- 8:23Speaker 1: And I was like, yeah, of course, we're going to
- 8:25Speaker 1: make them the white guys with all the power.
- 8:27Speaker 2: But I was like.
- 8:28Speaker 1: Wouldn't it be way more interesting if because the point
- 8:32Speaker 1: the men are making is that we're men, not that
- 8:35Speaker 1: we're white men, that masculinity and toxic masculine. So wouldn't
- 8:39Speaker 1: it be way more interesting if half these guys were black?
- 8:42Speaker 1: And so you couldn't even play on the, well, all
- 8:44Speaker 1: the good people over here and all the bad people
- 8:45Speaker 1: are white people. And like, it would be way more
- 8:48Speaker 1: to question and to get into if they were just like,
- 8:51Speaker 1: we don't care what race you are.
- 8:52Speaker 2: As long as you're a man, you're on our side.
- 8:55Speaker 2: We want to include you.
- 8:57Speaker 1: Instead, it's just, again, the most generic, here's the bad guys, they're.
- 9:01Speaker 2: Dorky white frat boys. I'm like, of course we hate
- 9:05Speaker 2: white frat boys. Who doesn't?
- 9:07Speaker 5: I don't know what, because they just made them really obnoxious.
- 9:12Speaker 4: They made them what I feel like an anti-feminist guy
- 9:18Speaker 4: or a guy who just started to realize maybe this
- 9:21Speaker 4: feminism thing. isn't so bad but doesn't really understand it yet,
- 9:25Speaker 4: what they would think a feminist would talk like.
- 9:29Speaker 1: Because at any point, if anybody got close to asking
- 9:33Speaker 1: a question that might be interesting or lead to something bigger, nope,
- 9:37Speaker 1: you are asked to leave, sir. We will have no
- 9:40Speaker 1: thinking in this movie, damn you. We will make our points,
- 9:44Speaker 1: we will throw out our buzzwords, and then we will
- 9:46Speaker 1: stop talking about it because we.
- 9:48Speaker 2: Don't want to have a dialogue.
- 9:49Speaker 1: We don't want to explore these issues. We just want
- 9:52Speaker 1: to throw them out there and exploit them for being issues.
- 9:54Speaker 2: And then that's it. We're done. Oh, I meant to
- 9:59Speaker 2: bring this up earlier.
- 10:00Speaker 4: I meant to bring this up earlier as I sat
- 10:02Speaker 4: down to watch the movie I said to myself I
- 10:05Speaker 4: wonder how long it's going to take before they play
- 10:07Speaker 4: the rocking around the Christmas tree movie that you hear
- 10:10Speaker 4: in every Christmas movie 6 minutes 32 seconds that.
- 10:15Speaker 1: Time it's So if you haven't joined yet, just go
