- 2:54Speaker 6: Dear no, thank goodness.
- 2:58Speaker 3: Got anything you guys going to be out about anywhere
- 3:00Speaker 3: this weekend? Are you take hanging it hanging close to
- 3:03Speaker 3: the shelter. He's going to be out anywhere this weekend.
- 3:06Speaker 6: Tonight, we'll be at the Pride kickoff party from five
- 3:09Speaker 6: to about eight pm, but other than that, our weekend
- 3:12Speaker 6: is going to be pretty tame.
- 3:14Speaker 4: Okay.
- 3:14Speaker 3: Well, that's all right, that's right, because we got I mean,
- 3:16Speaker 3: there's so many things going on to the next couple
- 3:17Speaker 3: of weeks, so you know you had a lot of
- 3:20Speaker 3: work to do there, because I know your numbers are
- 3:22Speaker 3: still pretty high. We'll get that a little bit later on,
- 3:24Speaker 3: but as always, our part of the week's picture posted
- 3:26Speaker 3: on Dave Island Radio, on Facebook and at Dave A
- 3:28Speaker 3: seventy on X tell us about and are you pronouncing
- 3:32Speaker 3: it Weasley?
- 3:34Speaker 6: Weasley like Ron Weasley from Harry Potter.
- 3:38Speaker 4: I should have known, Ryan, I should have known.
- 3:40Speaker 3: I should have known, all right, I because when you
- 3:43Speaker 3: sent me the text last night, I said, well, I
- 3:45Speaker 3: wonder if it's Wesley, and then I should have all automatically.
- 3:50Speaker 4: Presumed with you that that's where we were going to go.
- 3:52Speaker 4: Although I don't know who Weasley is because I've never
- 3:54Speaker 4: seen the first Harry Potter film or read the book.
- 3:56Speaker 4: But I'm not very culture, I'm not very cold.
- 4:00Speaker 3: I got Weasley's picture posted again over on my social
- 4:04Speaker 3: media tell us about Weasley.
- 4:06Speaker 6: So, Weasley is a very unique dog. He is one
- 4:09Speaker 6: of our dogs that's been with us for quite some time.
- 4:12Speaker 6: He is starting to get really stressed in his kennel.
- 4:15Speaker 6: He paces, he barks, he kind of flips himself from
- 4:19Speaker 6: side to side of the kennel as far as like
- 4:22Speaker 6: running really quickly and getting a lot of air up
- 4:25Speaker 6: on the side of the kennel like a motorcycle in
- 4:27Speaker 6: a cage. Really, so we're trying to get Weasley out.
- 4:31Speaker 6: He is probably would do best as the only dog
- 4:34Speaker 6: in the home. He has been okay with some dogs
- 4:37Speaker 6: he's met at the shelter, so it's really hard to
- 4:40Speaker 6: like pin down who he would go well with or
- 4:44Speaker 6: who he could live with. But if you have a
- 4:46Speaker 6: dog at home and you want to try out Weasley,
- 4:48Speaker 6: you can bring your pet to the shelter. We can
- 4:50Speaker 6: do a meet and greet, make sure everything goes okay.
- 4:53Speaker 6: But he's two years old, he's neutered, the works, he's
- 4:57Speaker 6: got all his vaccines, microchips, all that good stuff. And
- 5:01Speaker 6: he is, like I said, he's just very unique, very funny.
- 5:05Speaker 6: A lot of our staff love him. He has lots
- 5:07Speaker 6: of nicknames at the shelters, like the weise, weasel, all
- 5:11Speaker 6: that good stuff.
- 5:12Speaker 3: And you say he's around thirty six pounds, I think
- 5:15Speaker 3: is what you told me.
- 5:16Speaker 6: Yeah, around thirty six pounds. He is taller, so thirty
- 5:20Speaker 6: six pounds looks pretty good on him, but he's a
- 5:23Speaker 6: taller dog. Completely sponsored ad option. See. The only thing
- 5:26Speaker 6: that's a definite no for Weasley is very young children.
- 5:30Speaker 6: We're thinking like under ten years old. And definitely no cat.
- 5:34Speaker 4: Definitely no, he's not a cat fan like we are, right,
- 5:37Speaker 4: absolutely not. All right, Well, I mean you got to
- 5:39Speaker 4: know that going in.
- 5:40Speaker 3: It's better and better to find that out ahead of
- 5:41Speaker 3: time as opposed to trying to find it out later.
- 5:44Speaker 3: So he does have a lot of energy. And again
- 5:47Speaker 3: you've told us before about these these dogs that when
- 5:50Speaker 3: they're in their kennel or in the in the shelter,
- 5:52Speaker 3: I should say that you know they they sometimes it
- 5:57Speaker 3: just totally stresses them out. And then you get him
- 5:59Speaker 3: out of that, whether somebody fosters them or they just
- 6:02Speaker 3: take them out for the day for a walk or whatever.
- 6:04Speaker 3: It's an amazing it's amazing what a difference there is
- 6:07Speaker 3: when you actually can get them out of there.
- 6:10Speaker 6: Yeah, anytime outside, I mean even as a small amount
- 6:13Speaker 6: of times like fifteen minutes, can make such a huge
- 6:16Speaker 6: difference for the dogs that are to the point of
- 6:18Speaker 6: like pacing and hurting themselves in their kennels. So definitely
- 6:22Speaker 6: consider fostering or just getting them out for a little
- 6:25Speaker 6: bit because again it makes a huge difference for them.
- 6:28Speaker 3: Well, speaking of fostering, Angie June is National Foster a
- 6:32Speaker 3: Pitt Month and so it would be a great opportunity
- 6:35Speaker 3: for people to try to try this out. If somebody
- 6:38Speaker 3: is considering fostering, what's the conversation like, they just call
- 6:42Speaker 3: you up or they stop mind and they say, look,
- 6:43Speaker 3: I'm considering fostering. What advice do you give them?
- 6:48Speaker 6: So our behavior is Jolie is much more well rounded
- 6:51Speaker 6: with as far as behavior advice, as far as bringing
- 6:54Speaker 6: an animal into your home. We try to set you
- 6:56Speaker 6: up from for success from the start. We give you
- 6:59Speaker 6: pretty much any supply that you will need, and then
- 7:03Speaker 6: as far as fostering, anytime amount, any amount of time
- 7:06Speaker 6: out of the shelter is great. So we're not going
- 7:09Speaker 6: to say, hey, we need you to at least keep
- 7:10Speaker 6: them for the weekend or whatever. We're gonna be happy
- 7:13Speaker 6: with whatever you can do and whatever you feel comfortable doing,
- 7:16Speaker 6: because we want you to come back and foster more.
- 7:19Speaker 6: So we're not going to push you past your limits
- 7:21Speaker 6: to foster one particular animal.
- 7:23Speaker 3: And you know, there are so many people that do
- 7:27Speaker 3: that on a regular basis, you know, whether it's dogs
- 7:30Speaker 3: or cats or whatever.
- 7:31Speaker 4: They that this is kind of their thing.
- 7:33Speaker 3: This is their this is their golfer, you know, whatever
- 7:36Speaker 3: other activities you may have, that they just live to
- 7:38Speaker 3: do this stuff.
- 7:39Speaker 4: Angie. I mean, they love, they love to foster.
- 7:42Speaker 3: And then you'll see them post pictures on social media
- 7:44Speaker 3: trying to help you guys get these pets adopted by saying, hey,
- 7:48Speaker 3: we've been fostering this cat or this dog or whatever.
- 7:50Speaker 3: He's great, she's fantastic, whatever. So God bless those people.
- 7:54Speaker 6: To do that.
- 7:54Speaker 3: And again, June is National Foster a Pet Mont so
- 7:57Speaker 3: it'd be a great time for people to to try
- 8:00Speaker 3: to look into that.
- 8:01Speaker 4: So how are the numbers looking.
- 8:04Speaker 6: They're still as always, I feel like a broken record.
- 8:07Speaker 6: We're still no matter how many animals we send out,
- 8:09Speaker 6: we cannot get below five hundred animals in our care.
- 8:12Speaker 6: Even this morning we had twenty leaves to an adoption
- 8:16Speaker 6: event in New Jersey, and we are still pushing about
- 8:19Speaker 6: five hundred and like five hundred and three animals.
- 8:22Speaker 3: So wow, and that's that's definitely wait, wait, way too many.
- 8:28Speaker 3: After the show last week, after your segment last week, Anie,
- 8:30Speaker 3: somebody had texted and I don't know whether we did
- 8:34Speaker 3: this actually on air or not, but I know I
- 8:36Speaker 3: got with you afterwards. They wanted to know about floor
- 8:38Speaker 3: plans or anything like that for the new shelter. I
- 8:40Speaker 3: know we're not quite there yet, but can in case
- 8:42Speaker 3: they missed it last week, can you give us a
- 8:44Speaker 3: timeline of, you know, ideally fingers crossed, when you'd like
- 8:47Speaker 3: to start construction, when you'd actually like to be in
- 8:49Speaker 3: the new shelter.
- 8:51Speaker 6: Yes, so we are. The floor plans are in work.
- 8:55Speaker 6: We're getting sent drafts at this point of what we
- 8:58Speaker 6: think would work for thee like the location we've picked,
- 9:02Speaker 6: and also kind of sticking to what is like feasible
- 9:06Speaker 6: for KHA. So we're looking at a timeline of about
- 9:10Speaker 6: like three to four years at this point, just because
- 9:15Speaker 6: it takes a lot more than I thought it did
- 9:17Speaker 6: personally to get a animal shelter constructed versus like a
- 9:21Speaker 6: regular building constructed. A lot goes into like drain work
- 9:26Speaker 6: and all the building things construction things that I'm not
- 9:31Speaker 6: familiar with.
- 9:32Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean one, I can certainly imagine that. The
- 9:35Speaker 3: Dave Allen showing five eighty Live is brought to you
- 9:37Speaker 3: in part by Morgan to Morgan, America's largest injury law firm.
- 9:39Speaker 3: We have a text question for you, Miss givin Water.
- 9:42Speaker 3: It says, any idea why it seems that feline and
- 9:45Speaker 3: if I butcher this, you can you can and butcher
- 9:49Speaker 3: me later. Feline piometra ting to pronounce that right. Cases
- 9:53Speaker 3: seem to have jumped over the past year.
- 9:57Speaker 6: We're talking piametra. It's an infection in a cat or
- 10:05Speaker 6: dogs uterist. I haven't seen personally like a lot of
- 10:09Speaker 6: piametra cases happening at the shelter, specifically if they're spiking
- 10:14Speaker 6: in the area and nationwide. The easy solution of that,
- 10:17Speaker 6: please get your pet saved. That is the number one
- 10:21Speaker 6: way to prevent that. And I think what's happening now
- 10:24Speaker 6: is there's a national vet shortage, so stay and neuter
- 10:27Speaker 6: is very hard to access right now. And I think
- 10:30Speaker 6: that may be an explanation as to why those cases
- 10:33Speaker 6: are jumping specifically.
- 10:34Speaker 3: All right, hey Angie, I appreciate you being here and
- 10:38Speaker 3: we'll talk again next week.
- 10:39Speaker 4: Thanks a lot. Sounds great, Angie Gellawater from the GNAAL Charleston.
- 10:43Speaker 3: You made association with this week's adop me. Please better
- 10:45Speaker 3: the week again. Picture posted over on Dave Island Radio
- 10:48Speaker 3: on Facebook and at Davise seventy on X It's Weasley,
- 10:51Speaker 3: to year old male around thirty six pounds, needs to
- 10:54Speaker 3: probably be the only pet. Seems to get along well
- 10:57Speaker 3: with other playful female dogs, but definitely no cats. And
- 11:01Speaker 3: they recommend because of the energy level and things of
- 11:04Speaker 3: that nature, that probably would be better in a home.
- 11:06Speaker 3: Kids are fine, but maybe older kids maybe, say, as
- 11:09Speaker 3: Angie said, maybe ten and up probably would be better
- 11:11Speaker 3: for Weasley. And he's already he's already ready to go,
- 11:15Speaker 3: he's already vaccinated, he's already neutered. He's going to be
- 11:18Speaker 3: a fantastic dog for your family. And I've got his
- 11:21Speaker 3: picture again if you want to see Weasley. The dog
- 11:23Speaker 3: we're talking about, which I learned today as a Harry
- 11:24Speaker 3: Potter thing. I don't know absolutely nothing about Harry Potter.
- 11:28Speaker 3: I've left a I guess led very very very sheltered life.
- 11:31Speaker 3: No pun intended when we're talking about the Humans Association,
- 11:34Speaker 3: but anyway, go over to Dave Island Radio and Facebook.

- 15:01Speaker 3: You're in Charleston, We're all about it. Joined us now
- 15:02Speaker 3: to talk abouts this Arts Amplified program is Brian Cooper.
- 15:06Speaker 4: Brian, good morning, Good morning, thanks for having me in.
- 15:09Speaker 4: Welcome to our Have you been on the air with
- 15:11Speaker 4: me before?
- 15:11Speaker 5: I think I think when we started City Center Live.
- 15:15Speaker 5: Actually I think we came in at that time, me
- 15:18Speaker 5: and Matt Sutton came in and kind of talked about
- 15:20Speaker 5: what we were hoping for this program, all right those
- 15:23Speaker 5: three years ago?
- 15:24Speaker 3: Okay, all right, right, so now that it that it's
- 15:26Speaker 3: up and running. First of all, what is what is
- 15:28Speaker 3: Arts Amplified?
- 15:28Speaker 9: But art?
- 15:30Speaker 4: I'm the director of Arts Amplified.
- 15:32Speaker 5: It was an initiative that was dreamed up the creator
- 15:35Speaker 5: Canaw Valley Foundation and some other important players four years
- 15:38Speaker 5: ago started wishing that we had some type of entity
- 15:41Speaker 5: in Charleston that was always working to connect artists and
- 15:45Speaker 5: business and community together to really like grow and and
- 15:50Speaker 5: like you said a sec Ago, we have a lot
- 15:51Speaker 5: of great art in Charleston and we really do support
- 15:53Speaker 5: the artists in Charleston, and Art Amplified is really just
- 15:56Speaker 5: there to help take all of that to the next level,
- 15:58Speaker 5: help make those connections and really amplify all the great
- 16:01Speaker 5: arts that's already going on in Charleston and hopefully create
- 16:03Speaker 5: some new fund things in the long line.
- 16:05Speaker 4: What are some of the things that you guys have
- 16:07Speaker 4: done in the last few years.
- 16:08Speaker 5: We have a minigrant program which has been very successful.
- 16:11Speaker 5: Those are like five thousand dollars Ish minigrants that anyone
- 16:14Speaker 5: can apply for artists, businesses, organizations. So through that we've
- 16:18Speaker 5: done a lot. Like we've helped recently Folklore Music on
- 16:21Speaker 5: Summer Street. They wanted to build a performance space in
- 16:23Speaker 5: their store. They applied for a mini grant, took them
- 16:26Speaker 5: all of five minutes. We were happy to approve that
- 16:28Speaker 5: and now they have that in that space. That's just
- 16:31Speaker 5: something recently. Programming wise, we have City Center Live, which
- 16:36Speaker 5: we mentioned a second ago, is actually kicking off next
- 16:39Speaker 5: week on Thursday, and that's our series of summer events
- 16:43Speaker 5: that we do in the park. So that's one of
- 16:44Speaker 5: the other programming things we do. We do a lot
- 16:47Speaker 5: of brokering between businesses and artists. Let's say a couple
- 16:50Speaker 5: of years ago, Progrants got depot wanted to find an
- 16:53Speaker 5: artist to paint a mural in their entry area. So
- 16:56Speaker 5: we helped them through that process of collecting the artists,
- 16:59Speaker 5: helping them go through the interview process selecting who they wanted.
- 17:02Speaker 3: And that's really cool, I will say, because that's where
- 17:04Speaker 3: I live. I mean, I don't live at Kroger, but
- 17:07Speaker 3: well you could. But but I will say, that's the
- 17:10Speaker 3: local Uh, that's the local grocery store. So you've seen
- 17:12Speaker 3: that in our neighborhood once a week at least.
- 17:15Speaker 4: Amazing.
- 17:15Speaker 3: I mean absolutely, I had no idea you guys did that. Yeah,
- 17:18Speaker 3: it's amazing.
- 17:18Speaker 5: Every time I see it, I think it really does
- 17:20Speaker 5: look like a piece of work that wouldn't be in
- 17:23Speaker 5: a Kroger.
- 17:23Speaker 4: I mean it's a beautiful piece of work. Yeah, it
- 17:25Speaker 4: really is good.
- 17:26Speaker 3: We're talking to Brian Cooper from Mart's Amplified, So city
- 17:29Speaker 3: Center Live tell us about that.
- 17:30Speaker 4: So city Center Live.
- 17:31Speaker 5: We started it three years ago. The idea, you know,
- 17:33Speaker 5: the beautiful Slack Plaza was recreated as City Center at
- 17:36Speaker 5: the time, the new park downtown, and we really wanted
- 17:39Speaker 5: to just put programming to make that a big part
- 17:41Speaker 5: of the new park, having things in the park for
- 17:44Speaker 5: people to do.
- 17:45Speaker 8: Uh.
- 17:45Speaker 5: So we came up with the idea of having a
- 17:47Speaker 5: regular series of events, all free, three times a week
- 17:51Speaker 5: throughout the summer, and it's a little bit of everything.
- 17:53Speaker 5: Like there's like I said, next Thursday starts with open
- 17:55Speaker 5: Sky Open Mic, which is exactly as it sounds. It's
- 17:58Speaker 5: just open mic night out in the park. Anybody come down.
- 18:01Speaker 5: We have line dancing night. People come out and do
- 18:03Speaker 5: line dancing. We have a murder Mystery night. Gosh, we
- 18:07Speaker 5: have theater events in the park. These are all free
- 18:09Speaker 5: events that take place, Like we start on June twelfth,
- 18:13Speaker 5: so we'll do like four dates through June. That's just
- 18:15Speaker 5: kind of like a teaser of what the season is
- 18:17Speaker 5: going to be like. And then we take off July
- 18:19Speaker 5: because there's so much going on in July in our
- 18:21Speaker 5: town that we don't need any more programming now, you know,
- 18:23Speaker 5: we really don't. But then in August it really kicks off.
- 18:27Speaker 5: And from August through October seventeenth, there'll be at least
- 18:31Speaker 5: three events in the park every week that are always
- 18:35Speaker 5: free for anyone, and they're all artspaced, so you can
- 18:39Speaker 5: always come out, have some fun downtown and see some art.
- 18:42Speaker 3: How do you choose, Brian, what it is that you do?
- 18:44Speaker 3: I mean that's kind of eclectic. You talked about the
- 18:46Speaker 3: music and murder mysteries and line dancing. How do you
- 18:49Speaker 3: choose what goes into you? Just listen to the people.
- 18:51Speaker 5: Yeah, So we started with the large committee actually of
- 18:54Speaker 5: diverse people to say, you know, what would be some
- 18:56Speaker 5: things to try. And really what we've done is kind
- 18:58Speaker 5: of adapt season to season. We've taken data and talk
- 19:02Speaker 5: to people and see what's working, what's not working. We've
- 19:05Speaker 5: kept everything. Actually, we've I don't know if we've dropped anything.
- 19:08Speaker 5: We've kind of just grown off of everything that we've had.
- 19:12Speaker 5: Some new things we have added this year. We have
- 19:13Speaker 5: a high school marching band showcase, so some of the
- 19:16Speaker 5: high school marching bands will come out and perform one evening.
- 19:19Speaker 5: We're adding Happy Hours on Fridays and starting in September
- 19:22Speaker 5: this year, so it'll be an earlier in the day event.
- 19:26Speaker 5: People can come out, play some yard games. Here's some
- 19:28Speaker 5: live music. We're adding a Pickle Palooza fest this year,
- 19:32Speaker 5: which we'll have like ten to twelve vendors sampling Pickles
- 19:36Speaker 5: in the Park.
- 19:37Speaker 3: Pickles in the Park, Pickles in the Park. I mean
- 19:38Speaker 3: that's a new one. Yea, I haven't heard that one.
- 19:40Speaker 4: There you go.
- 19:41Speaker 5: Yeah, it'll be fun. You can come out sample pickles.
- 19:43Speaker 5: Everyone will vote on who their favorite pickle is. We'll
- 19:46Speaker 5: have some pickle games and contests. It'll all be a
- 19:48Speaker 5: pickle themed day, of course, with live music too. We'll
- 19:51Speaker 5: have some Irish brogue music. We'll have some bluegrass music
- 19:54Speaker 5: that day. It should be an event that will be.
- 19:56Speaker 3: Kind of you're really missing out here, Brian, if you don't.
- 20:00Speaker 3: I know, you can't have pickleball tournament down there but
- 20:02Speaker 3: pickle but but I mean just to have somebody up
- 20:05Speaker 3: down there. Get with Johnny rutherth buddy, you know that's
- 20:09Speaker 3: so big into pickleball. He's a regular on the show.
- 20:11Speaker 3: They just had the pickleball tournament, including the pickle eating
- 20:13Speaker 3: contest I think in Nitro last week, So maybe get
- 20:17Speaker 3: them down there at least talk about We're talking to
- 20:20Speaker 3: Brian Cooper again from Arts Amplified. The Dave Allen Show
- 20:23Speaker 3: in five eighty Live is brought to you in part
- 20:24Speaker 3: by Pinnacle Consultants. Poor indoor air quality can cause a
- 20:27Speaker 3: variety of health issues allergies, respiratory problems, and more. Pinnacle
- 20:31Speaker 3: offers specialized indoor air quality services for residential, commercial, and
- 20:35Speaker 3: industrial type settings Visa Pinnacle Corp.
- 20:37Speaker 4: Dot net.
- 20:38Speaker 3: Because what you don't know can hurt you. I want
- 20:40Speaker 3: to talk about getting young people involved in this, in
- 20:43Speaker 3: the arts in general, and I'm a big believer that
- 20:48Speaker 3: anything we can get young people involved in, whether it's sports,
- 20:51Speaker 3: whether it's theater, whether it's banned you know, music, dance,
- 20:55Speaker 3: you know, anything to get them interested in something other
- 20:59Speaker 3: than just a device, I think has got to be
- 21:01Speaker 3: a good thing.
- 21:02Speaker 4: Is your program.
- 21:04Speaker 3: And you, folks, do you do you do anything to
- 21:06Speaker 3: work with the youth to kind of reach out together absolute.
- 21:08Speaker 5: And honestly, I mean selfishly, you know, I actually didn't
- 21:11Speaker 5: come from an art profession background. I worked in IT
- 21:16Speaker 5: and oil and gas companies and law firms, and my
- 21:18Speaker 5: background was actually mostly in information technology. But when we
- 21:22Speaker 5: moved to Charleston about thirteen years ago, now we had
- 21:25Speaker 5: the little kids at the time, it was really the
- 21:27Speaker 5: art scene that kind of hooked us into Charleston, being
- 21:29Speaker 5: able to go to art walk, going our kids got
- 21:32Speaker 5: super involved in local theater. So it was through that
- 21:34Speaker 5: that kind of led me into the passion of wanting
- 21:37Speaker 5: to see arts thrive in Charleston, and.
- 21:40Speaker 4: Yeah, we do.
- 21:40Speaker 5: You know, I would say open mic night at City
- 21:44Speaker 5: Center Live is probably one of our biggest youth outreach
- 21:48Speaker 5: events because there's really not an open mic night except
- 21:51Speaker 5: for the one that Folklore Music does when City certain
- 21:53Speaker 5: Live is not going on, that all ages can come
- 21:56Speaker 5: out and perform it. So imagine a fifteen year old
- 21:59Speaker 5: kid who's never you know, they have some skills, but
- 22:01Speaker 5: they don't have anywhere to really test that out and
- 22:03Speaker 5: show it to be able to come down to the
- 22:05Speaker 5: City Center Live or perform in the park where you
- 22:06Speaker 5: might have a patio full of people over at five
- 22:09Speaker 5: Street that's now listening to this kid. And I've seen
- 22:11Speaker 5: people get up and walk from five Street to come see.
- 22:14Speaker 4: Like, who is this singer there? Yeah?
- 22:15Speaker 5: Like so to give them that kind of space and
- 22:17Speaker 5: exposure is It's been one of my favorite parts of
- 22:20Speaker 5: Citizens Live Reshort.
- 22:21Speaker 2: Now.
- 22:21Speaker 3: You see if that were me and I were up
- 22:23Speaker 3: on stage and the people at five Street would say,
- 22:26Speaker 3: is someone being murdered over.
- 22:27Speaker 4: There the inside table? Now, well what exactly is that?
- 22:31Speaker 4: What exactly is that?
- 22:32Speaker 3: But but again, you know, it's an opportunity for people
- 22:34Speaker 3: to come out and you know, you've been here for
- 22:36Speaker 3: a while. We weren't you from originally.
- 22:39Speaker 4: We were in Beckley before.
- 22:40Speaker 3: Okay, okay, But you know as well as I do
- 22:42Speaker 3: that Charleston is really getting this of this image as
- 22:48Speaker 3: being a just a thriving I mean, I talk about
- 22:52Speaker 3: the culinary community because I'm a filia. I mean the
- 22:54Speaker 3: culinary community, but also the arts community as well the music.
- 22:58Speaker 3: I mean, there's a lot of stuff going on.
- 23:00Speaker 5: We've had Mountain Stage here forever. At this point, fest
- 23:03Speaker 5: of All has been a you know, an amazing part. Again,
- 23:06Speaker 5: that's another thing that my family loved, Like there's all
- 23:08Speaker 5: these art things we have, the regotta we have live
- 23:10Speaker 5: on the levee, Like there's so many things now we
- 23:12Speaker 5: have City Center Live Art Amplified doing. You know, we
- 23:14Speaker 5: just put out these art collecting vending machines around town.
- 23:17Speaker 5: I don't know if you've seen those or not. Yeah,
- 23:20Speaker 5: there's something about the community engaging in art like that
- 23:24Speaker 5: that feels really special to Charleston. I was downtown during
- 23:26Speaker 5: the bike race. We did a whole week of well
- 23:29Speaker 5: five days of music programming during the bike race, so
- 23:31Speaker 5: you could watch rices and listen to music in the park,
- 23:34Speaker 5: and I saw a family of little kids collect all
- 23:36Speaker 5: the quarters they could. They ran over to the vending machine,
- 23:39Speaker 5: got a bunch of the vending the art vending cards out,
- 23:42Speaker 5: and then they all set around as a family in
- 23:43Speaker 5: the park like opening them up. I thought this, you know,
- 23:46Speaker 5: that looks like a fun thing about Charleston to me.
- 23:48Speaker 3: Is now for those that don't I know what you're
- 23:50Speaker 3: talking about. But for those that don't know about these
- 23:52Speaker 3: cards you're talking about to explain that.
- 23:54Speaker 5: So think of an old school put your four quarters in,
- 23:57Speaker 5: pushing the button, and outcomes of tattoo or a sticker
- 24:00Speaker 5: or something like that, except for in this case, you
- 24:03Speaker 5: put your four quarters in, you push it in, and
- 24:05Speaker 5: what comes out as a print from a local artist.
- 24:07Speaker 5: We have four different artists right now, so you can
- 24:09Speaker 5: collect all sixteen. There's four different prints from four different artists.
- 24:12Speaker 5: We have one vending machine at our office at the
- 24:14Speaker 5: Greater Knaw Valley Foundation right across from five Street Brewery,
- 24:18Speaker 5: and then we have another vending machine in Capital Market,
- 24:21Speaker 5: so you could visit those. There's ian body has some
- 24:23Speaker 5: prints in them. Each claus has prints, Blake Wheeler and
- 24:28Speaker 5: Lex Hunter. So there's four artists right now and you
- 24:31Speaker 5: can collect little miniature baseball card size prints of local art.
- 24:35Speaker 3: Talking again with Brian Cooper, vedeve Vallen Showing five eighty

- 30:37Speaker 9: and I'm sure they will be a crowd favorite as well.
- 30:39Speaker 3: Can you give us an idea of some of what

- 30:43Speaker 9: Yeah, well, you know they've got your your typical hibachi,
- 30:47Speaker 9: what you would expect at an Asian restaurant. But you know,
- 30:50Speaker 9: they call themselves Hillbilly, so I'm sure they'll be at

- 30:53Speaker 3: So what I'm hearing, as somebody who you know is
- 30:56Speaker 3: kind of a hillbilly, I'm hearing that we're going to
- 30:59Speaker 3: do a little few usion. But it may involve potted
- 31:02Speaker 3: meat or spam. Is that is that a possibility?
- 31:04Speaker 9: I don't know about that. I'm looking at their menu
- 31:06Speaker 9: for today right now. They've got a chicken dinner, a
- 31:09Speaker 9: steak dinner, shrimp dinner, chicken and steak, all three meats
- 31:12Speaker 9: or vegetarian.
- 31:13Speaker 4: So okay, all right.
- 31:15Speaker 9: All combos include rice, noodles, veggies, and yum yum sauce.
- 31:18Speaker 9: So there you go.
- 31:19Speaker 3: You got to have the yum yum sauce, Amanda, you
- 31:21Speaker 3: got to have the yum yum sauce.
- 31:23Speaker 4: So you got all three of those here today. What
- 31:25Speaker 4: time do you start?
- 31:27Speaker 9: So it is eleven am until two pm?
- 31:29Speaker 4: All right, so go ahead.
- 31:31Speaker 9: Our sponsor this week is Putnham County Library, So while
- 31:34Speaker 9: you're there, be sure to check out there's summer reading
- 31:37Speaker 9: program and all the good things they've got going on.
- 31:39Speaker 3: Big shout out to the Tarbs, Make and Target with
- 31:42Speaker 3: the staff of the Putnam County Library.
- 31:44Speaker 4: All right, So this thing starts around eleven o'clock.
- 31:46Speaker 3: And how many years do you know, if the time
- 31:48Speaker 3: you had it, approximately, how many years of the food
- 31:50Speaker 3: truck Friday thing has been going on. It's been several years, right.
- 31:54Speaker 9: At least ten years. I was trying to figure this
- 31:56Speaker 9: out the other day. This might be our tenth year
- 31:59Speaker 9: in fact. Okay, yeah, so a long time and people
- 32:03Speaker 9: love it and we're just excited. Last year we moved
- 32:06Speaker 9: it to Hurricane City Park and that was a great success.
- 32:08Speaker 9: So if you've been in the past, just to make note,
- 32:11Speaker 9: we are at City Park, not Main Street.
- 32:13Speaker 3: Yeah, and that's I'm I really appreciate you pointing that
- 32:16Speaker 3: out because for years, as you said, it was on
- 32:18Speaker 3: the Main Street and Hurricane near the gazebo. Uh and
- 32:21Speaker 3: you've kind of moved it away from there. You know,
- 32:23Speaker 3: we've got we've had an active restaurant seen down in
- 32:26Speaker 3: the city Hurricane and you can understand sometimes you know,
- 32:28Speaker 3: they're like, I'm not saying that's what happened, but sometimes
- 32:31Speaker 3: you're like, well, you're breaking food trucks in front of
- 32:32Speaker 3: my restaurant. If I were a restaurant owner, I would
- 32:34Speaker 3: completely understand that. Uh So, in big shout out to
- 32:38Speaker 3: the folks at Bell Nap and Sergio's and others down there.
- 32:41Speaker 3: So you're now in a hurricane, you're now in Hurricane
- 32:43Speaker 3: City Park. For those who may be listening to us
- 32:46Speaker 3: that may not know where Hurricane City Park is, explain.
- 32:49Speaker 4: It to us.
- 32:50Speaker 9: Yeah, it's right there by the reservoir in Hurricane, right
- 32:52Speaker 9: on Tans Valley Road.
- 32:53Speaker 4: So you can't miss it.
- 32:55Speaker 9: You know where the reservoir is, you can't miss that.
- 32:56Speaker 6: You just pull in.
- 32:57Speaker 9: We'll have the trucks set up in the main parking lot.
- 33:00Speaker 9: There's still plenty of parking for everybody. That's the nice
- 33:02Speaker 9: thing about City Park. There's plenty of parking and plenty
- 33:04Speaker 9: of room to.
- 33:05Speaker 10: Spread out so well.
- 33:07Speaker 3: And I don't know what the weather is going to
- 33:09Speaker 3: become lunchtime, because we do have some scattered showers and
- 33:11Speaker 3: thunderstorms expected, but what I'm hearing, I think it's going
- 33:14Speaker 3: to be primarily later.
- 33:15Speaker 4: So would be a great time, lungs.
- 33:18Speaker 3: It's not too terribly hot for you to get out
- 33:20Speaker 3: of the bank that you're in or the law office
- 33:22Speaker 3: or whatever it is that you're doing, and.
- 33:25Speaker 4: Head on down there and grab some grub today.
- 33:27Speaker 9: Absolutely, and we'll have picnic tables and canopies just to
- 33:30Speaker 9: have some shape. So it should be a nice afternoon.
- 33:34Speaker 4: Now, do you do this every Friday?
- 33:36Speaker 9: Every Friday in June and July with the exception this
- 33:39Speaker 9: year of July fourth. So every Friday in June and
- 33:41Speaker 9: July except for July.
- 33:42Speaker 3: Fourth, and you have I'm assuming three different food vendors
- 33:47Speaker 3: every week, right exactly.
- 33:49Speaker 17: Yep.
- 33:49Speaker 3: And you guys do a fantastic job on the City
- 33:52Speaker 3: of Hurricanes social media and the Facebook page and whatever,
- 33:55Speaker 3: so you always have a complete list of who's there.
- 33:57Speaker 3: And so what I would urge you to do is
- 33:59Speaker 3: if you're like me and you start are planning meals
- 34:00Speaker 3: on Tuesday or Wednesday, you know for Friday, I would
- 34:03Speaker 3: go check it out, look at it, go well, okay,
- 34:05Speaker 3: this Friday, I definitely I definitely got a head there
- 34:07Speaker 3: for a food truck Friday. Amanda Raymi is with us,
- 34:10Speaker 3: all right, so let me ask you. I have you
- 34:12Speaker 3: on here, Manda. We're getting in the summer months right now.
- 34:14Speaker 3: I'm going to go ahead and give you an opportunity.
- 34:16Speaker 3: We'll get back to the food trucks here at a moment,
- 34:18Speaker 3: but to kind of preview what's going on within the
- 34:20Speaker 3: City of Hurricane as we head into summer.
- 34:22Speaker 9: Yeah, great, we have. Of course, we're looking forward to
- 34:26Speaker 9: our July fourth Independence Day of celebration. It kicks off
- 34:29Speaker 9: with a parade on July fourth at four o'clock this year,
- 34:33Speaker 9: down Main Street. And then our festivities actually are at
- 34:36Speaker 9: our brand new Hurricane Bridge Park at the Putnam County
- 34:39Speaker 9: Bank Sports Complex, So we're excited to have have it there,
- 34:42Speaker 9: spread out a little bit, and then that is a
- 34:45Speaker 9: perfect fireworks viewing spot too, So the fireworks are at
- 34:48Speaker 9: ten and away. As always, admission it's free, all the
- 34:52Speaker 9: free games, all the free treats. We like to invite everybody.
- 34:57Speaker 9: You don't have to be from Hurricanes.
- 34:59Speaker 4: Anybody can come down, Anybody can come back.
- 35:02Speaker 9: Absolutely.
- 35:02Speaker 3: And I also want to mention I had earlier in
- 35:05Speaker 3: the week, we had Kelly Steel on for Putnam County
- 35:07Speaker 3: Tourism on the show and she was talking about, I
- 35:10Speaker 3: know this is not specifically the City of Hurricane event,
- 35:12Speaker 3: but it is going on at Valley Park. She was
- 35:13Speaker 3: talking about the first ever coffee festival. It's sold out.
- 35:18Speaker 4: It's and I'm not talking about it.
- 35:19Speaker 3: I'm not talking about it sold out for vendors. I'm
- 35:22Speaker 3: talking about for people buying tickets. It's completely sold out.
- 35:25Speaker 3: Who would have I mean, I'm a coffee drinker, but
- 35:27Speaker 3: who would have ever thought that coffee would be that popular?
- 35:29Speaker 3: That they would sell that many tickets at Valley Park
- 35:32Speaker 3: that they ran out of room for people in advance.
- 35:35Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 35:35Speaker 9: Absolutely, a little event they found they found the I.
- 35:41Speaker 3: Mean there's you know, in a big shout out to
- 35:43Speaker 3: Justin and the folks there because they do such a
- 35:44Speaker 3: great job at Valley Park. And I know you guys
- 35:46Speaker 3: have got a great relationship, you mayor Edwards in the
- 35:49Speaker 3: city of hurric and have got such a great relationship.
- 35:51Speaker 3: And look, I say it all the time. You know's
- 35:53Speaker 3: so many activities going on. I was just talking about
- 35:55Speaker 3: things going on at Charleston. Uh, I'm a little prejudiced
- 35:58Speaker 3: toward Putnam County because that's where I But I'll tell
- 36:00Speaker 3: you there is always something going on in Putnam County.
- 36:03Speaker 3: I mean, you've got Farmers Market every Saturday. That's right
- 36:06Speaker 3: off the tays Valley exit. Winfield. I know you don't
- 36:09Speaker 3: say Winfield when you're talking to somebody from Hurricane, but
- 36:11Speaker 3: just just bear with me for a moment. Okay, Winfield
- 36:14Speaker 3: Water Sports Weekend is happening. This weekend starts it's tonight
- 36:19Speaker 3: through tomorrow. So there's always something going on at Putnam County, right.
- 36:23Speaker 9: Always, Yes, I always say, don't ever tell me there's
- 36:25Speaker 9: nothing to do. There's always something to do, all right.
- 36:28Speaker 4: Again, tell us who's going to be there for food
- 36:30Speaker 4: truck Friday.
- 36:31Speaker 9: Again we have Hillbilly, twisted Grill and stragapop today, all right.
- 36:36Speaker 3: And that you'll be doing it every Friday except the
- 36:40Speaker 3: first Friday, except for Fourth of July.
- 36:42Speaker 4: Right every Friday except for that, yep.
- 36:45Speaker 9: And check out our Facebook page. We post the new
- 36:47Speaker 9: lineup every Monday morning.
- 36:49Speaker 4: All right.
- 36:50Speaker 3: Hey, Amanda, I appreciate you being here. Thank you so much,
- 36:53Speaker 3: and we will talk again soon. Thanks a lot.
- 36:55Speaker 4: Thanks for having me, Amanda.
- 36:57Speaker 3: Raimi again from the City of Hurricane. Yeah, food trucks,
- 37:00Speaker 3: food trucks. And if you didn't catch who what food
- 37:03Speaker 3: trucks are going to be there? I got the graphic
- 37:06Speaker 3: posted on my social media over on Dave Island Radio,
- 37:08Speaker 3: so you can go check that out over there if
- 37:11Speaker 3: you wish. A couple of quick things, and then we're
- 37:13Speaker 3: going to talk to Dave Wilson about the State Baseball
- 37:16Speaker 3: tournament that continues today at Gomart Ballpark. Earlier this week
- 37:20Speaker 3: we told you about the Backpack Buddies program. That's a
- 37:23Speaker 3: great event that we're happy to get the word out
- 37:25Speaker 3: about where they get a bunch of people to gather
- 37:28Speaker 3: and they pack up boxes of food mailed out over
- 37:30Speaker 3: the summer to kids who may not have a lot
- 37:32Speaker 3: to eat once the final school bell rings. Talked to
- 37:35Speaker 3: Doug Irwin from the program last night, and due to
- 37:37Speaker 3: the expected rain tomorrow, for the first time, believe it
- 37:41Speaker 3: or not, in their thirteen year history, they are going
- 37:44Speaker 3: to have to move the events. It's still happening, but
- 37:46Speaker 3: they're going to move it indoors. They're actually going normally
- 37:49Speaker 3: they do this on the parking lot of the Church
- 37:51Speaker 3: of the Nazarene there in tays Valley. Doug tells me
- 37:54Speaker 3: that they're going to have to move the event indoors
- 37:56Speaker 3: tomorrow starting at ten. It's actually going to be at
- 37:58Speaker 3: the old Kroger located in Tayese Valley, which is next
- 38:01Speaker 3: to the current Kroger location. So if you want to
- 38:04Speaker 3: help out, if you're planning on going there, they have,
- 38:05Speaker 3: like you know, several one hundred people that take part
- 38:09Speaker 3: in that. If you were planning on going there and
- 38:12Speaker 3: helping out tomorrow, I know that they would appreciate that.
- 38:15Speaker 3: But please note it will not be at the church there.
- 38:17Speaker 3: It is actually now going to be inside the old
- 38:20Speaker 3: Kroger location which is next to the new current. Okay, Also,
- 38:26Speaker 3: I cannot say enough about the wonderful listeners, greatest listeners
- 38:30Speaker 3: in the face of the earth that we have here.
- 38:31Speaker 3: We had our first ever event with Union Missions Drop
- 38:35Speaker 3: your Snacks event yesterday and I'm looking at the numbers.
- 38:39Speaker 3: Rob Reel kind of compiled something here. This is how
- 38:42Speaker 3: well we did yesterday with this thing, and not how
- 38:44Speaker 3: well we did. How well you did. Rob said in
- 38:48Speaker 3: an email that went out company wide today. There were
- 38:51Speaker 3: two full trucks that went out of here, and based
- 38:54Speaker 3: on the weight of the contents from the first truck,
- 38:56Speaker 3: that's about a half a ton of snacks that we
- 39:00Speaker 3: collected yesterday. Cash and check donations were in the three
- 39:03Speaker 3: thousand dollars neighborhood, highlighted by a one thousand dollars check
- 39:09Speaker 3: from the American Federation of Teachers group out of Greenbrier County.
- 39:13Speaker 3: I mean, not even based in the Charleston area, based
- 39:16Speaker 3: out of Greenbrier County. They heard about what we were
- 39:19Speaker 3: doing and they cut.
- 39:20Speaker 4: A check for that. So thank you so much again.
- 39:22Speaker 3: Over three thousand dollars raised yesterday with our dropper snacks
- 39:27Speaker 3: event and about a half a ton of snacks yesterday.
- 39:30Speaker 4: Yet's why we.

- 43:45Speaker 3: And thus it begins. Thus it begins between Northern Dave
- 43:49Speaker 3: and myself, Southern Day.
- 43:50Speaker 20: So how was the action yesterday, David? Well, the action
- 43:54Speaker 20: in the last game. We had a really good game there.
- 43:56Speaker 20: Logan and Philip Barber, Philip Barber, first time of the
- 43:59Speaker 20: state nament since I think nineteen seventy five, pulls out
- 44:02Speaker 20: the victory. Sixty five well pitched ballgame, kill Wolf, the
- 44:05Speaker 20: left tender with some nice breaking stuff, really kept Logan
- 44:09Speaker 20: hitters off balance for the majority of the ball game.
- 44:11Speaker 4: So final at bat, it's six' to.
- 44:13Speaker 20: Three final at, Bat logan comes, up loads the, bases two,
- 44:18Speaker 20: outs routine ground ball gets through the infield shortstop is beside,
- 44:23Speaker 20: himself knew he should have made the, play so two runs.
- 44:25Speaker 20: Score now at six,' five you've got the tying run
- 44:30Speaker 20: out at was actually a third base game winning runs,
- 44:32Speaker 20: at second so you got. Second third you walk the,
- 44:34Speaker 20: next batter so you load the Bases And philip barber
- 44:38Speaker 20: comes through with a, looking strikeout struck the guy out
- 44:41Speaker 20: looking to end the. Ball Game So philip barber Onto
- 44:44Speaker 20: the CLASS double. A championship will Take On. Wheeling Central
- 44:46Speaker 20: wheeling central with a ten to nothing Victory Over wyoming
- 44:51Speaker 20: east in the first. Semi Final CLASS single a semi
- 44:54Speaker 20: Final Be. EAST hardy I Think east hardy's a. Great
- 44:56Speaker 20: story eight wins in the, regular season had a ton
- 44:58Speaker 20: of injuries early overcame all. Of that win's, the region
- 45:03Speaker 20: win's its semi, final game it goes on to the state.
- 45:07Speaker 20: Championship game will Take On weirton madonna In The CLASS
- 45:10Speaker 20: single a state Title game, saturday morning.
- 45:12Speaker 3: And it's it always seems to me, Every, year dave
- 45:16Speaker 3: that there is that one team in THE baseball churta
- 45:18Speaker 3: BUT that i don't want to say shouldn't. Be there
- 45:20Speaker 3: they played well enough they should. Be there but, on paper, you,
- 45:23Speaker 3: think well this team probably you wouldn't suspect.
- 45:26Speaker 20: To be there if you only look at it and
- 45:28Speaker 20: you assume you're Talking About east harty in, this case
- 45:30Speaker 20: if you only look at.
- 45:31Speaker 4: The Record.
- 45:33Speaker 20: But, east hardy where they, are located. Plays up so
- 45:37Speaker 20: they Go, play martinsburg they Go, play hedgesville they go
- 45:40Speaker 20: play these four, eight teams THESE three, a teams because
- 45:42Speaker 20: there's just not a Lot OF class a teams in
- 45:44Speaker 20: that part of. The state so that's, number one and,
- 45:46Speaker 20: NUMBER two i go back to. The injuries they, lost
- 45:49Speaker 20: three four five main starters early in. The season so
- 45:54Speaker 20: you go through that early part of, the year you
- 45:55Speaker 20: don't have your, main hitters you're missing a pitcher, or
- 45:58Speaker 20: two it's. No wonder but late in the year these
