- Greg: What's up, y'all, and welcome to another weekend recap of Whiskey and Winners. Another college football weekend in the books, and once again we learned that absolutely all of us know absolutely nothing about college football. ⁓ Georgia went to Arkansas and handled business 45 to 17. So as Georgia fans, we get to continue to focus on those three plays that didn't work and bitch like crazy about those. Kentucky rolled into Kyle Field in ⁓ upset Texas AM 31 to 21. Which means about a hundred and five thousand Aggie fans spent Saturday afternoon participating in the world's largest group therapy session. AM woke up Saturday morning thinking college playoff and ended Saturday night googling, can you still make the playoff if Kentucky just beats your ass? The answer is no, by the way. Ole Miss God bless Oxford, Mississippi. Ole Miss beat LSU and Lane Kiffin's return back to Oxford and man, that was a beautiful thing. Lane left Ole Miss for ⁓ LSU, came back to town, and then just got his butt beat by his old team. That's not college football, folks. That's a ⁓ that's a microcosm of life. That's a ⁓ that's a divorced couple running into each other at the grocery store, and one of them has lost 30 pounds and looks great. The other one not so much. Bryant, Alabama beat Florida State fifty to thirty-six. That looked like one of those games where both defensive coordinators just met before the game and goes, Hey, fuck it, let's just see what happens. ⁓ and then it it was kind ugly. Then ⁓ Oklahoma, Oklahoma beat New Mexico, Brian, 14 to 6. It's not a typo, it was 14 to 6. ⁓ that's at home, ⁓ and that's not a good sign if you're an SEC team. So ⁓ that's ⁓ you spend several million dollars on your football team and on your roster, and then you look like you're a nineteen seventy-three high school team. Probably not what the Sooner Nation had in mind. And then there was my Toledo game, Brian. Toledo. Led by 14 points with less than seven minutes left. Toledo scored, recovered an onside kick, scored again, forced overtime, scored in overtime, and Temple had answers for every bit of that. ⁓ that's just your weekly reminder to not gamble on college kids. They're unpredictable. But hey, that's what we do, and ⁓ we're gonna do it again this week. So Brian, share a little bit about ⁓ what you witnessed over the weekend, your thoughts on ⁓ how we did as a as an organization to try to put out some winners. ⁓ and some things that you were intrigued by this weekend, but also some things you might can take into ⁓ future prognostication efforts. Brian: All right. We had a a decent week this this week. We ⁓ had a sixty-three percent. We went ⁓ twelve and seven, so sixty-three percent's a good way to go. We both had winning records this week. I was six and five, you were six and two, so got your win streak back over fifty-one percent. So we're headed the right direction. ⁓ did not hit the parlay again, so we're ⁓ and four on that. Virginia just Got dog walk by West Virginia. I didn't see that coming. And then ⁓ as far as our underdogs, North Carolina State, I thought that one was in the bag and lo and behold, they fumble the ball in the end zone with six seconds to go in the game and lose the game. I can't remember a loss ⁓ Greg: Yeah. I know you go talk about that and yeah, I know you're gonna talk about that one some more, but that's one of the wildest endings I have ever seen. Brian: Yeah, I can't remember a loss like that other than the Miami Georgia Tech game a couple of years ago. So that was that was wild. I I I had already cashed that check and it didn't work out. ⁓ yeah, I'm watching what you said about Oklahoma earlier, John Mateer does not not look good in that offense. He's he's struggling, so it's a Venables defense game and that's all they got right now. So Looking forward to that Georgia game should be a ⁓ should be something this coming weekend. ⁓ after I mean all the all what we did with that, I'm good with that. And then like you said, David would probably beat both of us and he went four and one on his five picks. So here's that. The man that doesn't doesn't he didn't put near the talk. We'll see how he does. ⁓ Greg: Yeah, we'll we'll we'll assume David's was just beginner's luck. Brian: Couple things I'll say is ⁓ about that FSU game. That was ⁓ I didn't think we'd score thirty-six points. I could definitely see us giving up fifty points, but I didn't think we'd score thirty-six. But going now, FSU's defense is ⁓ total defense is ranked a hundred and thirty-fifth in the country. We're over those defensive juggernauts of ⁓ FAU and UL Monroe now. So we're right down there with them. ⁓ so Greg: Well you ⁓ you you you've got a a a monumental successful record when it comes to delayed games. That's ⁓ that's two out of three so far this year and which I know this is kind of a random thing for for what we generally talk about, but is it just me or does it seem like in the last three or four years there have been a way greater propensity of football games delayed for weather than I think I ever recall? Like it's happening every weekend now. Brian: It's it was something 'cause you look at the ⁓ at the ⁓ T V screen and you had blue skies over the ⁓ stadium, but hey, it is what it is. That was ⁓ definitely got some momentum rocking. We were doing okay and then that happened, but I think it just ⁓ prolonged the inevitable. We all knew how that was gonna play out. I thought my nineteen and a half was gonna be safe the whole time and then Alabama decided to kneel the ball out at the end of the game instead of Being like Mario Cristobal and running the score up. So Greg: Yeah, it's ⁓ it it's tough when you when you see on one of those. I had a couple of NFL games that that went against me towards the end yesterday when you when you feel like you you're hanging on it, you still got a shot to cover a number that maybe you didn't deserve. Well just ⁓ you touched on it a little bit, but just for those that might not have seen it yet, let's ⁓ let's let's fill all the NC State backers. Anybody that had one of them NC State tickets, let's ⁓ let's tell them exactly how they lost their money, Brian. Give give them a make them feel real good about that one. Brian: Yeah. They're up in the game. You ⁓ the plan, they're up by three, six seconds. Plan was to run around an end zone and kneel the ball out. And if if you run out the whole six seconds, you win the game. If not, you kick the ball off and then you win the game. CJ Bailey took a hit, fumbled the football, and Vanderbilt recovered. I was trying to figure out what happened. I could see Vanderbilt running around. I said, he just fumbled that ball. And he did. And then Dave Doran, you know, threw threw his quarterback up under the bus. So that's something I'm gonna be looking at going forward. What kind of relationship they're gonna have in the locker room 'cause he definitely did not take the blame for it. He threw it all on C J Bailey. Greg: You know, I I can certainly understand. Like as as a coach, and again, in the heat of the moment, you're probably a little defensive, and you're going, look, all he had to do was not fumble the dadgum ball. But as a coach, you also you can't put your player in that position. I mean, again, I I get it, you just don't want to even take a chance on a kickoff or something happens. But you can squib kick, you you can there's so many ways to avoid that. He could have just run out of the back of the end zone and not left but a couple of seconds. He could have taken a couple of steps back and then just slung the darn thing forty five, fifty yards into the field and let air tie. So many options besides run around and then try to kneel in traffic. ⁓ but I have ne ⁓ again, we've seen some funny things. I have I I I'm glad I didn't have a ticket on that, but I I thought I had lost tickets just about every way imaginable, but I have never seen that sort of ending. That was that would have been brutal had I been holding that ticket. Brian: Mm. It was ⁓ something. Greg: But that's also why, you know, you and I've talked about this and and again, you know, from my perspective, you know, you taught you touched on the record. I had a six and two weekend and ⁓ not to sound arrogant, but but I knew a weekend like that was coming. That's why the four and fours don't bother me, the three and fives don't bother me. I it's a long game. I know what happens. You just gotta keep plugging away, ⁓ and and keep trying to find the the best numbers on the board and and get the right side of it. Is there anything ⁓ in particular you're looking forward to this weekend? Brian: Mm-hmm. One thing I'll say about this ⁓ last weekend again was ⁓ Louisville took a big step for that number two slot. They they looked pretty good against SMU. That's ⁓ that's a good football team. And then Miami took some injuries, so that makes that more intriguing coming down the road. So ⁓ and then Mississippi State looked good. I thought South Carolina had ⁓ at the beginning, and then Camario Taylor did what he had. So I'll I'll pose this question to you. And I won't put you on the spot if whatever, but is there any chance Camario Taylor's playing for Mississippi State next year? Greg: ⁓ about the same as that ⁓ superstar wide receiver that I just saw play for Arkansas this past weekend ain't gonna be in Fayetteville next year either. Brian: ⁓ Camario worries me that he might be a ⁓ Miami player next year with the way they like to pay them one year quarterbacks and 'cause he it's gonna be tough to keep him down there. Greg: Yeah, I don't I don't expect him to don't don't expect him to reside in Starkville. And I mean again, I hate it. That's just you know, i and that's a good example 'cause that is a that is the kind of guy that a program like Mississippi State and a place like Starkville could rally around, could possibly build around if he'd stay there for three or four years. But it's just not it's not the landscape of college football. And ⁓ you know, we didn't touch a little we didn't touch much on the old miss and L S U game and you know that Here's my take, and I know this is gonna sound like sour grapes. That was such an emotionally beautiful thing. Like to if you watched any of that even on TV and that didn't make you want to go to a college football game in Oxford, Mississippi, I don't know how to help you. It was it was so passionate, so emotional, so cool. But can I say something, Brian? And I know this sounds like sour grapes because we got to deal with it later on this season, but I'm sorry, Trinidad Chandler should not be playing college football anymore. Brian: It's true. Greg: I mean, it's impressive. He's he's fun to watch. Ole Miss is going to be an absolute nightmare to deal with all year long because of that guy. But he's like 33 years old. He's a grown man. He's had 14 years of eligibility. Trinidad Chamberlain should be done with the game of college football. And I hate to say it, but as I was watching that game Saturday night, that was really a prevailing thought that I like all the lane kiffin animosity was obvious. But we knew that part of the story. But I just kept coming back to it and and they touched on it, you know, a little bit. They talk about it, you know, the sixth-year quarterback and all it's just ⁓ I it just doesn't feel good to me, Brian. I didn't I didn't enjoy that. I'm and I'm kind of an old miss fan. I like seeing Ole Miss successful. But it's just something about seeing on that stage of Saturday night, it just rang hollow. I mean, this kid shouldn't even be on this field anymore. And I know I'm not the only one that feels that way. Brian: I agree. I mean that something's gotta give they gotta get this under control. I mean like just the example of Darren Minsa being at Duke, that should be a he won the A C Z championship, should have came back for us and then, you know, Miami paying him eight million bucks to come down there. So they gotta something's gotta happen. Greg: All right, Brad, before I wrap us up and start ⁓ leading into next weekend, you got any thoughts you want to ⁓ you want to share with the people? Brian: Mm. On next weekend. Greg: Just in general, anything you want to throw out there. Brian: I I think that ⁓ we're on track for Norvell to still be gone after the Miami game. I I thought that our defensive coordinator would have been gone today, but he's he's still down there, but I guess what does it matter? Greg: Yeah. Well we will ⁓ we will continue to to plug away. We'll ⁓ we'll get back with you guys on Wednesday. And ⁓ the good news is that ⁓ for our stupidness and our irresponsibility, the ⁓ the football gods have rewarded us with what looks like another pretty good slate coming up. We got ⁓ Texas going into Knoxville to play Tennessee. You got Oklahoma coming into Athens to play my dogs. A and ⁓ gets to go to L S U because ⁓ apparently losing to Kentucky wasn't dramatic enough. Ole Miss going down to the swamp. Iowa plays Michigan in a game that somebody's probably gonna score. ⁓ you got Oregon, USC. We we got some good matchups and you know, at some point I promise I'm gonna study some numbers. I'm gonna I'm gonna run some models and I'm gonna I'm gonna get with some other experts to see what I think and then Saturday afternoon a couple of nineteen year old kids will do some stupid shit and probably blow it for me yet again, Brian. What do you think? Brian: It's a good chance of it. I mean, just looking at this coming weekend, I've looked at a little bit of lines, trying to dig into some of it. One of them that we'll definitely be talking about is the ⁓ O Miss Florida game. And currently when I looked at it this morning, they got Florida favored by four. Greg: Yeah, that wouldn't ⁓ that was a little bit of a shocker, but man, the g the swamp ain't no joke. But I I can tell you right now I hadn't dug into it deeply, but I ⁓ I I'm not laying four against Trinidad Chambless with anybody right now. Not not happening. Brian: Yeah, for sure. So Greg: All right, guys. Well, we will ⁓ we'll regroup with you Wednesday night. David will be back to ⁓ to drive this chaotic show around and ⁓ and I'll get back into my analyst role. ⁓ and until then, ⁓ hopefully you guys ⁓ can get online if you want to post a comment. Like I said, we'll go through our rundown of the major games. But if there's a spot you want us to take a look at, go ahead and throw that out there and we'll ⁓ we'll include a full breakdown of that and give you at least a lean if we don't have an official play. ⁓ anything like that. Like I said, if you got any questions, hit any of us up on social media. ⁓ if you don't have all of our info, follow find one of us and the that one will get it out to the rest of us because we're doing this to try to help you guys. Obviously we have a blast doing it and it's always an excuse for Brian to have a little bourbon, which is not a bad thing. That's that always makes the world go around. So till ⁓ till Wednesday night, guys. We ⁓ we appreciate the follows. Get in there, like, share, subscribe, do all the things, get ⁓ get as many people on board this train as possible. And we'll see y'all Wednesday night on Whiskey and Winters. God bless. Brian: So yeah.
