- 0:00Speaker 1: Bronco's injury report sponsored by Ramo's Law, the official injury
- 0:03Speaker 1: law for a partner of Broncos Country, Drake green Law
- 0:07Speaker 1: out Malcolm roach Out certainly not ideal joining us right
- 0:11Speaker 1: now to discuss those injuries and everything else going on
- 0:14Speaker 1: with the Broncos. It is Jeff Lagwall of ESPN with
- 0:17Speaker 1: us on a bud Light football Friday. Leggy, what's going on? Man?
- 0:20Speaker 2: What are we doing? Fellas?
- 0:22Speaker 1: Let's start with the injury situation, the dra Greenlaw thing.
- 0:27Speaker 1: What do we know about this? And how serious is this?
- 0:32Speaker 1: As in, how long could Drake green Law be out?
- 0:35Speaker 2: For an excellent question, Nate. You know, I saw him
- 0:40Speaker 2: on the practice field Monday. All seemed to be well.
- 0:45Speaker 2: You know, Sean Payton gladly spoke about it after Monday's
- 0:49Speaker 2: practice and you know, I've gotten differing thoughts on it
- 0:57Speaker 2: from people in the building about whether you know, technically
- 1:00Speaker 2: this is a reaggravation or something new or whatever. But
- 1:05Speaker 2: they got their eye on it, and you know, they
- 1:08Speaker 2: continue to be hopeful that this will come around. I think,
- 1:14Speaker 2: you know, if if they thought, you're gonna know, it's
- 1:18Speaker 2: more serious, if they sort of take me, should they
- 1:22Speaker 2: do the four week i R thing and they you know,
- 1:25Speaker 2: they obviously haven't done that yet, so I keep hearing
- 1:29Speaker 2: they're hopeful, you know, it's been a fluky thing and
- 1:33Speaker 2: that it will come around. They don't think this is
- 1:36Speaker 2: because he's doing something improperly or or whatever, but it
- 1:41Speaker 2: does seem all odd now that you know. Peyton was
- 1:45Speaker 2: so dismissive in the off season when the initial reports
- 1:50Speaker 2: that he could miss some regular season time came out.
- 1:54Speaker 2: But I'm certain they would say he's you know, he's
- 1:57Speaker 2: reaggravated things since. But this is now the off season
- 2:02Speaker 2: training camp, and now Monday or Tuesday, you know, something
- 2:07Speaker 2: has happened with this. So that's three separate occasions since
- 2:11Speaker 2: he's arrived.
- 2:13Speaker 3: All right, Legy, that's I mean, that's just kind of
- 2:16Speaker 3: not great. Yeah, it's not great, and like you said,
- 2:18Speaker 3: it continues to seem to be a reaggravation. Anything up
- 2:21Speaker 3: on Malcolm Roach. I know it's very hard to get
- 2:23Speaker 3: information out there because, as you said early in the week,
- 2:26Speaker 3: Sean made it very clear, I'm not here to give
- 2:28Speaker 3: daily updates on my players. You can look for the
- 2:30Speaker 3: injury report. I remember that quote. But do you have
- 2:32Speaker 3: any more info on Malcolm Roach. Do you think he'll
- 2:35Speaker 3: have trouble getting out there Sunday?
- 2:37Speaker 1: No, he's out.
- 2:37Speaker 3: Oh he's out too. So he was at it toe
- 2:39Speaker 3: all right.
- 2:41Speaker 2: We You know I saw him come off the practice
- 2:44Speaker 2: field yesterday. He did not look happy. Often that is
- 2:49Speaker 2: an indicator of how guys feel about the initial diagnosis
- 2:55Speaker 2: at least. But you know, I know from experience that
- 3:00Speaker 2: calf injuries on the on the lineman can be tough
- 3:04Speaker 2: to deal with. So, uh, I'll be interested to see
- 3:08Speaker 2: as they move forward here. You know, how soon he
- 3:12Speaker 2: comes back to even a limited uh practice bowl. You know,
- 3:16Speaker 2: if it was just kind of a strain or whatever,
- 3:20Speaker 2: then that can be pretty quick. But it's it's such
- 3:23Speaker 2: a big muscle group, you know, anything lower body is
- 3:27Speaker 2: just going to be uh, maybe take a longer time
- 3:31Speaker 2: to deal with. So I think that's a wait and see.
- 3:35Speaker 2: But I didn't feel like yesterday there was any way
- 3:39Speaker 2: he would he would play this weekend. And that means
- 3:43Speaker 2: that Titans suddenly are very interested in running the ball
- 3:47Speaker 2: against the Broncos.
- 3:49Speaker 3: That was kind of gonna be My follow up is
- 3:51Speaker 3: that is this the bad team for this to happen?
- 3:53Speaker 3: Or I mean, what you expect at the Titans. You know,
- 3:55Speaker 3: you worked there for a long time. I know you
- 3:56Speaker 3: got friends that are still there. Uh you know, I
- 3:59Speaker 3: mean this is this is the game I think the
- 4:01Speaker 3: Broncos have to have because there's really not too many
- 4:03Speaker 3: excuses to go losing this one with the rookie quarterback
- 4:06Speaker 3: and what Vance Joseph can do defensively. But what are
- 4:08Speaker 3: you expecting out of this Titan squad, Leggy.
- 4:12Speaker 2: I think they will initially, you know, knowing Brian Callahan
- 4:15Speaker 2: and and Holly wants to approach things on offense. I
- 4:19Speaker 2: you know, I think that you watch, okay, one of
- 4:22Speaker 2: the Broncos, the bigger nose tackle is out and the
- 4:28Speaker 2: physical inside linebacker is out. You know, they've they've revamped
- 4:33Speaker 2: their offensive line there. They've spent some money and some
- 4:36Speaker 2: draft capital to revamp the line. And you know they
- 4:40Speaker 2: like Pollard as a running back. So I think certainly
- 4:44Speaker 2: with a rookie quarterback, you're you're gonna be inclined, at
- 4:48Speaker 2: least early in the game to take some shots and
- 4:52Speaker 2: see if the Broncos are up for it. You know,
- 4:55Speaker 2: are they going to be up to play physical? Because
- 4:58Speaker 2: you're gonna play smaller without Greenlaw on the lineup. You know,
- 5:01Speaker 2: suddenly Justin Sternod's in there and you're a smaller lineup.
- 5:05Speaker 2: And when Singleton went out last year and Sternods filled in,
- 5:11Speaker 2: you know, it was the same issue when teams were
- 5:13Speaker 2: a lot more inclined to run the ball a bit.
- 5:16Speaker 2: And what that does is it opens up play action
- 5:19Speaker 2: for a rookie quarterback who really doesn't have medium on
- 5:25Speaker 2: his docket right now. He wants to go big in
- 5:29Speaker 2: the passing game. So if they have any success at
- 5:32Speaker 2: all in play action, that the young guy is going
- 5:35Speaker 2: to be looking for big plays down the field. I
- 5:38Speaker 2: think Vance Joseph put it, He's looking to put a
- 5:41Speaker 2: dagger in you every time.
- 5:44Speaker 1: Other side of the ball, like Jeffrey Simmons, one of
- 5:47Speaker 1: the best interior defensive linemen in all of the NFL.
- 5:50Speaker 1: Lagerious sneed on the outside. That is a solid veteran
- 5:54Speaker 1: cornerback right there. I mean, they certainly have talent on
- 5:57Speaker 1: that side of the ball. Defensively, you know Amani Hooker,
- 6:02Speaker 1: the strong safety, that's a box safety and a good
- 6:05Speaker 1: football player right there. Plus our old friend Draymond Jones,
- 6:08Speaker 1: our old friend Cody Barton. Part of this defense as
- 6:11Speaker 1: well with the Tennessee Titans. What kind of game plan
- 6:13Speaker 1: do you expect to see offensively out of the Broncos
- 6:17Speaker 1: going up against Tennessee's defense.
- 6:20Speaker 2: Well, I mean, I think we may see the promised
- 6:23Speaker 2: tweaks in the run game, you know, and whether that
- 6:28Speaker 2: means more of the zone run game than he's had
- 6:32Speaker 2: in the past, we'll see. I mean, that's been my
- 6:34Speaker 2: inclination all off season is that they they've done everything
- 6:39Speaker 2: you can do to be pointed in that direction, to
- 6:44Speaker 2: have more of that, you know, the familiar things people
- 6:47Speaker 2: saw in the Shanahan era here. But you know, I
- 6:52Speaker 2: always think it's a mistake for people to try and
- 6:54Speaker 2: take on Simmons, you know, just straight on. I think
- 6:58Speaker 2: you got to put him on the move and make
- 7:00Speaker 2: him chase to be effective, and I think they can
- 7:05Speaker 2: find some room. You know. I looked at the Titans
- 7:08Speaker 2: preseason work, and again, I know it's the preseason, with
- 7:10Speaker 2: the preseason, but you know, they've the Broncos should be
- 7:16Speaker 2: able to move the ball if they simply you know,
- 7:19Speaker 2: avoid the turnovers and stay out a second and nine.
- 7:23Speaker 2: You know, too often because a big, physical front like that,
- 7:27Speaker 2: you're getting second second eight second, nine, third, and seven
- 7:32Speaker 2: that they're going to dictate and you don't need that.
- 7:38Speaker 3: What did you think of simmons comments about bone knicks there, Jeff,
- 7:43Speaker 3: I thought Tyler had a pretty good take where Tyler
- 7:46Speaker 3: Tyler had said he thought that what Simmons was trying
- 7:48Speaker 3: to say is we've got to be aware of the
- 7:50Speaker 3: guy running. And maybe didn't come out quite right, but
- 7:53Speaker 3: however you want to phrase it, he came out like
- 7:55Speaker 3: a shot at him and then obviously shot at him,
- 7:57Speaker 3: and then obviously Sean got a little defensive again. And
- 8:00Speaker 3: what did you take of the back and forth there?
- 8:03Speaker 2: Yeah, I didn't when I heard it, I didn't have
- 8:06Speaker 2: a sense of I mean to me that that's like
- 8:09Speaker 2: a lot of defensive linemen I've talked to over the years.
- 8:12Speaker 2: They're not really interested in the quarterbacks progressions. All they
- 8:17Speaker 2: want to know is if he pulls the ball down,
- 8:20Speaker 2: Kenny run And I think I think that's what he
- 8:23Speaker 2: was saying, is they're aware that when things break down
- 8:27Speaker 2: and he can't find, you know, somebody opened, he's gonna leave.
- 8:33Speaker 2: I really honestly don't think he meant he only takes
- 8:36Speaker 2: one read and he takes off. But I don't think
- 8:40Speaker 2: there are very few NFL quarterbacks you would say that about,
- 8:44Speaker 2: especially when you're gonna play. But I don't think he
- 8:47Speaker 2: you know, I don't. I wasn't there, But I don't
- 8:49Speaker 2: think he meant it as oh, he only looks at
- 8:52Speaker 2: one receiver and he takes off. I think he more
- 8:55Speaker 2: meant it. Last year people were surprised by Nix's mobility
- 9:00Speaker 2: and we won't be. I think that's where he was going.
- 9:04Speaker 1: Yeah, Jeff, I don't know if anybody watched football last
- 9:06Speaker 1: night or not, but defensive linemen aren't necessarily known for
- 9:08Speaker 1: being the most tactful of people out there, not always
- 9:12Speaker 1: thinking about others feelings or anything else like that. So uh, yeah,
- 9:16Speaker 1: I think he was trying to make a point, and
- 9:18Speaker 1: he made it in a in a semi harsh way
- 9:21Speaker 1: that I don't think is really worth reading all that
- 9:24Speaker 1: in depth on. But Jeff, let's talk about bon Nicks,
- 9:27Speaker 1: because you wrote about him this week and you talked
- 9:31Speaker 1: about the most critical factors that will determine the next
- 9:35Speaker 1: step forward for bon Nicks, and I really thought, to
- 9:40Speaker 1: me the most and excellent piece, but the part that
- 9:43Speaker 1: really sucked me in was you talking about bone Nicks
- 9:48Speaker 1: and if he is prepared for the adjustments of his opponents.
- 9:53Speaker 1: And you know, you had a conversation with bon Nicks,
- 9:56Speaker 1: and I'll tell you what I think. Bo Nicks actually
- 9:58Speaker 1: is a very self aware person. And in the conversation,
- 10:01Speaker 1: you know, he did talk about I cannot get comfortable,
- 10:04Speaker 1: I cannot rest on my laurels. I always need to
- 10:07Speaker 1: know what defenses are doing to me and how to improve.
- 10:12Speaker 1: How do you think that part of it is going
- 10:15Speaker 1: to go for bo Nicks this season of the book
- 10:19Speaker 1: being out on him.
- 10:20Speaker 2: Now, Yeah, I think a challenge for young quarterbacks in
- 10:25Speaker 2: their second year is to avoid pressing, especially if you
- 10:29Speaker 2: had a pretty good rookie year, because now there are
- 10:33Speaker 2: outside expectations of you, for sure, but in house, you
- 10:39Speaker 2: know you'd have to be, you know, numb to not
- 10:45Speaker 2: feel the expectations if you're walking around the Broncos building
- 10:49Speaker 2: and you're the quarterback. And I think that's the part,
- 10:53Speaker 2: just to keep him from from pressing, because he is
- 10:58Speaker 2: very much you know, he wants to be good all
- 11:03Speaker 2: the time, and I think sometimes it's difficult to shrug off,
- 11:09Speaker 2: you know, that that temporary failure, you know, you threw
- 11:12Speaker 2: a pick or you know that you had three punts
- 11:15Speaker 2: in a row type of thing. And I last year
- 11:20Speaker 2: was it was a struggle for him sometimes after an
- 11:23Speaker 2: interception and he didn't throw many, you know, in the
- 11:26Speaker 2: second half of the year, but especially early in the
- 11:29Speaker 2: year after an interception, it took him a minute to
- 11:33Speaker 2: sort of regain his footing. And I think sometimes in
- 11:37Speaker 2: year two, you know, you're sort of like as the quarterback,
- 11:41Speaker 2: thinking I got to be awesome all the time, and
- 11:44Speaker 2: if I'm not, you know, something's terribly wrong. And I
- 11:49Speaker 2: think that's the part that's Davis Webb the quarterbacks coach
- 11:53Speaker 2: to some degree Sean Payton, but it's about the people
- 11:56Speaker 2: around him too, noticing and helping and making sure, you know,
- 12:02Speaker 2: he hasn't beat himself up when it's time to move
- 12:05Speaker 2: on to the next drive.
- 12:08Speaker 3: All right, Jeff, what is your gut feel about this one?
- 12:12Speaker 3: Does everything stay okay? Are they gonna be all right
- 12:15Speaker 3: on Sunday? I mean, you know what, what's your gut
- 12:18Speaker 3: feeling what we see? Offensively? Do you have any any
- 12:21Speaker 3: vibe that because he keeps asking how does this go wrong?
- 12:23Speaker 3: Which I understand, but man, if this looks like the
- 12:26Speaker 3: preseason offense, I'm gonna be getting a little uncomfortable on Sunday.
- 12:30Speaker 3: And yet I also believe you just don't magically quit
- 12:33Speaker 3: looking like he did in preseason. So what do you
- 12:35Speaker 3: what do you expect him? What are we gonna be
- 12:37Speaker 3: okay on Sunday?
- 12:39Speaker 2: I think the defense will be every bit what people
- 12:42Speaker 2: expect it to be. And you know, does that mean
- 12:45Speaker 2: the kid doesn't hit a big player once in a lot. Look,
- 12:48Speaker 2: he's talented enough to be the number one pick of
- 12:50Speaker 2: the draft, and he's got some good receivers and the
- 12:54Speaker 2: last time they face Lockett, you know he made some place.
- 12:58Speaker 2: But I think defensive they're right where they need to
- 13:03Speaker 2: be and if something bad happens, it's because they made mistakes,
- 13:06Speaker 2: not because they're not talented. I think the whole question
- 13:10Speaker 2: is what you guys are saying is is did they
- 13:14Speaker 2: find or you know is what they are Sean Payton
- 13:17Speaker 2: keeps saying, which is, oh, I don't worry about it.
- 13:19Speaker 2: Are off We've we've done good work on offense in
- 13:22Speaker 2: the pre in training camp and you know all of
- 13:25Speaker 2: our practices and all that. You know, okay, but that's
- 13:30Speaker 2: the question mark. You know, is it an offense that
- 13:34Speaker 2: has to go seventy five yards and in twelve plays
- 13:38Speaker 2: every time, because that's a hard way to live. And
- 13:41Speaker 2: that's what I have my eye on early in the
- 13:43Speaker 2: season here, and because we got to see how people
- 13:48Speaker 2: play bow and how many people gang up on Courtland Sutton.
- 13:52Speaker 2: Do they believe anybody else can make a make a
- 13:56Speaker 2: play in the passing game? So I do think the
- 13:58Speaker 2: question marks are sort of all on the offensive side
- 14:02Speaker 2: of the scale right right now.
- 14:04Speaker 1: By the way, Leggy, uh, last night, Jalen Carter ejected
- 14:09Speaker 1: immediately in that game after hawking a magic Lougie onto
- 14:14Speaker 1: the chest of Dak Prescott. I really thought that Carter's
- 14:19Speaker 1: big mistake in that moment was making it as obvious
- 14:23Speaker 1: as he did, you know, doing it directly in front
- 14:26Speaker 1: of the referee. But also there's gonna be a thousand cameras.
- 14:29Speaker 1: I mean, Leggy, if a if a defensive lineman, or really,
- 14:31Speaker 1: quite frankly, any defensive player wants to take a cheap shot,
- 14:36Speaker 1: you do it in the pile. You do something terrible
- 14:40Speaker 1: when bodies are piled up against one another. Is that
- 14:44Speaker 1: where you think Carter went wrong? Because you've been covered
- 14:46Speaker 1: in this league a long time, and you have you
- 14:49Speaker 1: have heard, and you have shared with us many a
- 14:51Speaker 1: story about football players just doing terrible things, untoward things
- 14:57Speaker 1: to one another. Uh where the CA can't see that?
- 15:02Speaker 2: Well? I have not known a single player in my
- 15:07Speaker 2: time cover in the league who wouldn't take spitting as
- 15:10Speaker 2: the ultimate awful insult. How can you? I mean, that's
- 15:15Speaker 2: just another level of human You just don't do that
- 15:20Speaker 2: to somebody. I mean, think about it. If he grabs
- 15:23Speaker 2: his face mask and tugs him around, he probably gets
- 15:28Speaker 2: a flag and that's it. And find later and he's
- 15:31Speaker 2: still in the game. You know, he could like wrestle him.
- 15:34Speaker 2: He could have wrestled him to the ground probably and
- 15:38Speaker 2: and gotten just a flag over it. So I don't
- 15:43Speaker 2: know where your mind goes, but you know, not spitting specifically.
- 15:49Speaker 2: But there was concerns before that draft about about his
- 15:56Speaker 2: you know switch, you know, about decision when he's you know,
- 16:01Speaker 2: in those moments.
- 16:02Speaker 1: So he's not a motorist, I know that about him.
- 16:05Speaker 2: Yeah, that's what I mean. There were a lot and
- 16:08Speaker 2: even his on field stuff was a big question mark
- 16:12Speaker 2: when he came on. So, you know, I hate to
- 16:14Speaker 2: see somebody go to that level of humanity in a
- 16:19Speaker 2: football game. But yeah, just that awful, terrible decision on
- 16:23Speaker 2: his part. You know, if you're the head coach, you're
- 16:27Speaker 2: in a tough spot because he's a really good player.
- 16:30Speaker 2: But my guess is, three quarters of your locker room
- 16:33Speaker 2: is looking at you like, hey, what are you gonna
- 16:35Speaker 2: do about this? Because you know that stuff is you
- 16:39Speaker 2: can't have that if you're really going to be a
- 16:40Speaker 2: good team or even just do what you're supposed to
- 16:44Speaker 2: do during a game. But I the only quicker ejection
- 16:49Speaker 2: I could think of in my head was, I remember
- 16:51Speaker 2: Robert Mathis, the receiver, got in a fight before kickoff
- 16:56Speaker 2: in one game, and they booted both guys in that.
- 16:59Speaker 2: In that case, but uh.
- 17:01Speaker 3: Six seconds, Leggy, you're your network headed six seconds this morning.
- 17:06Speaker 2: Unbelievable. Just I couldn't uh, I couldn't even fathom why
- 17:12Speaker 2: you would make that decision in any scenario, but let
- 17:15Speaker 2: alone in that one.
- 17:17Speaker 1: Yeah, he was apparently having a weird loogie related discussion
- 17:21Speaker 1: with Dak Prescott and decided away. So weird.
- 17:26Speaker 2: But again, if he'd have punched him in that, you know,
- 17:28Speaker 2: if he just grabbed, if he grabbed his face mask
- 17:32Speaker 2: and like jerked him around like a bobblehead. He would
- 17:36Speaker 2: have gotten a flag and probably fined twenty grand or something,
- 17:39Speaker 2: but he would have played. Yeah, would have played the game.
- 17:42Speaker 1: No bodily functions on the field. If you don't mind,
- 17:44Speaker 1: please Jeff Legwald everybody ESPN dot com uh check out
- 17:48Speaker 1: his latest on bow Nicks, read all of his coverage
- 17:51Speaker 1: coming up this weekend, and of course listen to Jeff
- 17:54Speaker 1: Legwald on Monday here on the Crackman and Lindahl Show. Leggy,
- 17:58Speaker 1: great stuff, man, Thanks, I.
- 18:00Speaker 2: See you later. Follows Everybriday
