Latest / Twin Cities Territory / Byron Buxton has strong words about trade rumors; Twins keep rolling
Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Byron Buxton does not give a flying about trade speculation.
- 0:07Speaker 1: The Twins sweep the Rangers to extend their winning streak
- 0:10Speaker 1: to four straight games. Tyler Duffy is a TV star,
- 0:13Speaker 1: The offense is still rolling. The vibes are high here
- 0:17Speaker 1: on Twins Cities Territory Minnesota Twins podcast here on the
- 0:21Speaker 1: Foul Territory Network. I am Zach Pierce of The Athletic
- 0:24Speaker 1: alongside Dan Hayes, the Athletics, Minnesota Twins beat writer, and
- 0:28Speaker 1: Tyler Duffy, a long time Major leaguer, former Minnesota Twin
- 0:31Speaker 1: and who made his broadcast booth debut for the Twins yesterday.
- 0:36Speaker 1: We'll talk about that later. We'll talk about the Twins
- 0:38Speaker 1: win Thursday over the Rangers to finish off the sweep.
- 0:41Speaker 1: We'll talk about the offense which continues to roll, but
- 0:44Speaker 1: we have to start with the exclusive Byron Buxton interview
- 0:48Speaker 1: in The Athletic from Dan Hayes. Dan got him this
- 0:51Speaker 1: week to talk about the persistent trade rumors around him.
- 0:55Speaker 1: As you probably know, the Twins with the big fire
- 0:59Speaker 1: sale lout year at the trade deadline. It was expected
- 1:02Speaker 1: again that that might happen again this year. It still
- 1:04Speaker 1: might who knows, but they came into the year with
- 1:06Speaker 1: very low expectations, which kind of everyone had zeroed in
- 1:10Speaker 1: on Buxton, Joe Ryan, other top names as potential trade
- 1:14Speaker 1: bait for the Twins at the August third deadline. We
- 1:18Speaker 1: also had a bit of a radio fight with an
- 1:20Speaker 1: Atlanta radio host or two over that situation as well recently.
- 1:24Speaker 1: But Dan got Buxton to talk about it this week,
- 1:27Speaker 1: and that is on the Athletic right now. You can
- 1:30Speaker 1: see it there on the screen. If you're watching on YouTube,
- 1:32Speaker 1: we'll have a link to the story and the description
- 1:34Speaker 1: as well if you want to read it. It's free
- 1:36Speaker 1: for all to read. But the money quote from the story, Dan,
- 1:41Speaker 1: I'll throw that up on the screen right now. Also
- 1:43Speaker 1: if you're watching on YouTube. I don't give a f
- 1:46Speaker 1: Buxton said, end of the day, nobody's in my shoes.
- 1:49Speaker 1: Nobody can say anything about what I'm going to do.
- 1:52Speaker 1: I know what I'm doing. The only way I'm getting
- 1:54Speaker 1: out of here. They're going to have to come talk
- 1:56Speaker 1: to me and tell me something else, simple as that.
- 1:59Speaker 1: I ain't said nothing about leaving, nor will I. I'm
- 2:02Speaker 1: a twin who So what he's referring to, of course,
- 2:07Speaker 1: is his no trade clause. It's it's up to him
- 2:09Speaker 1: whether he leaves the team or not. And Dan like,
- 2:12Speaker 1: if I want to be a smitten fan, I can say,
- 2:17Speaker 1: what a heroic quote from Byron Buxton reaffirming his love
- 2:20Speaker 1: to the organization. If I want to be cynical, I
- 2:22Speaker 1: can say, of course, you'd say that, like you always
- 2:24Speaker 1: got to say the right thing until the moment comes
- 2:27Speaker 1: when it's when it's not the you know when, when
- 2:29Speaker 1: when the tides turn or whatever. But Dan, you were
- 2:31Speaker 1: the one in the room curious how the interview came
- 2:34Speaker 1: together and what your repressions were of his comments.
- 2:37Speaker 2: Two questions, sixty five second interview. Seriously, that's all it took.
- 2:43Speaker 2: I went up to him and like one like the
- 2:47Speaker 2: I get the cynic part Byron last year when we
- 2:50Speaker 2: were talking about all this that where he comes from,
- 2:54Speaker 2: you're only as good as your word, and your word
- 2:56Speaker 2: means everything, so just know that it comes from a
- 3:00Speaker 2: place of passion. I went up and said, look, it's
- 3:05Speaker 2: like it feels like the vibes in this clubhouse are
- 3:07Speaker 2: really good right now, and it's felt that way even
- 3:09Speaker 2: when you guys were down all year. And he said,
- 3:14Speaker 2: like a whole bunch of stuff about all the positives
- 3:17Speaker 2: that have been coming from it.
- 3:19Speaker 3: And this is before they go out and close out
- 3:21Speaker 3: the sweep.
- 3:21Speaker 2: And win nine to three and get back to four
- 3:25Speaker 2: games under five hundred. So it was like, hey, you know,
- 3:27Speaker 2: things are seem good here. And every time the Twins
- 3:31Speaker 2: get on a little roll, Buck seems very excited, Like
- 3:35Speaker 2: you can tell how fired up he is about this,
- 3:37Speaker 2: and I've just watched this go on for a month plus. Basically,
- 3:41Speaker 2: it really stood out in Chicago when they got their
- 3:43Speaker 2: one win in that series against the White Sox, Buck
- 3:46Speaker 2: was fired up as I'd seen him in weeks at
- 3:48Speaker 2: that point. So I was like, hey, look, I know
- 3:52Speaker 2: you guys know about this, but the trade lists have
- 3:54Speaker 2: started to come out, and yesterday there was one and
- 3:57Speaker 2: you were number two, the number two trade target, and
- 3:59Speaker 2: Joe was number four. And Byron basically stopped me mid question.
- 4:04Speaker 2: He's like, I don't give an f and then gave
- 4:07Speaker 2: that quote and it.
- 4:09Speaker 3: Was just a smile on his face.
- 4:10Speaker 2: He's like, I'm a twin and then he said you know,
- 4:13Speaker 2: and he starts walking away.
- 4:14Speaker 3: He's like, you know and like and.
- 4:16Speaker 2: It was just funny because I mean, I've been here
- 4:18Speaker 2: through a lot of this with him, he got his
- 4:20Speaker 2: ten to five rights secured, so he had a limited
- 4:25Speaker 2: no trade clause this year. His full no trade clause
- 4:28Speaker 2: only went the previous two years. I believe as part
- 4:30Speaker 2: of his contract. Maybe it was, maybe it was the
- 4:32Speaker 2: whole time, but it was up until this year. And
- 4:35Speaker 2: now this year it was limited to like five teams
- 4:38Speaker 2: that he could block trades to. I'd love to know
- 4:40Speaker 2: who those five teams are. That's never getting out, but
- 4:44Speaker 2: he but when he got his ten five rights, he
- 4:47Speaker 2: became ten years of service time, like a few days
- 4:51Speaker 2: into the season. When you have ten years in the
- 4:53Speaker 2: majors and five with the same team, you have a
- 4:57Speaker 2: no trade clause. Yes, it's built in at that point,
- 5:01Speaker 2: and so he knows where he's going and he likes
- 5:04Speaker 2: it here. Look, there's a lot of stuff that has
- 5:07Speaker 2: been said about the ownership. That ownership's message in spring
- 5:13Speaker 2: training early on that we need to rebuild trust in
- 5:17Speaker 2: the clubhouse I know has gone a long way. I
- 5:20Speaker 2: know that Byron Buckson probably has some concerns about the
- 5:23Speaker 2: Twins pitching. It's like the fourth worst staff as far
- 5:26Speaker 2: as runs allowed in baseball.
- 5:27Speaker 3: I know he wants to win.
- 5:29Speaker 2: But I also know that he's committed to Minnesota. He's
- 5:33Speaker 2: reaffirmed this so many times now. And what I really
- 5:38Speaker 2: appreciate is the fact that he's going out and trying
- 5:43Speaker 2: to get ahead of the message because look, the trade
- 5:47Speaker 2: lists really started ramping up this week and he basically
- 5:50Speaker 2: was like, screw it, I'm gonna say it. I'm getting
- 5:53Speaker 2: it out there. And this is what he did last
- 5:54Speaker 2: year at the All Star Break. You know a lot
- 5:57Speaker 2: of guys, you go to the All Star Break and
- 5:59Speaker 2: you get your press conference, and the media is in
- 6:01Speaker 2: a room for an hour, and all the guys are
- 6:03Speaker 2: at their own tables, and you walk up and talk
- 6:05Speaker 2: to him and Buck basically said, I'm a Minnesota Twin.
- 6:09Speaker 3: I'm not going anywhere.
- 6:10Speaker 2: And the reason he did that last year was that
- 6:12Speaker 2: he'd been informed by his representatives that teams were trying
- 6:16Speaker 2: to go around the Twins. Talk to the representatives, say hey,
- 6:20Speaker 2: if we approached the Twins about your no trade clause,
- 6:23Speaker 2: would you consider waving it?
- 6:24Speaker 3: And we wrote about that. I know we've referenced that on.
- 6:26Speaker 2: This show already, but like six teams went up to
- 6:29Speaker 2: the went to the representatives and tried to figure out
- 6:32Speaker 2: if there was any wiggle room, and Buck used his
- 6:35Speaker 2: his his press conference to say, no, I'm not going anywhere,
- 6:40Speaker 2: like it came out of nowhere when he said it
- 6:42Speaker 2: last year. So I had a feeling he would address
- 6:45Speaker 2: this early on, and it literally took twenty five seconds
- 6:49Speaker 2: of questions for him to fire off that answer.
- 6:52Speaker 3: It was amazing.
- 6:53Speaker 1: And yeah, Tyler, as a fan of minister to sports,
- 7:01Speaker 1: we obviously, I mean, in general, we have an inferior
- 7:03Speaker 1: inferiority complex as a people, but when it comes to sports,
- 7:08Speaker 1: you know, there's that reputation, at least among the men's team,
- 7:12Speaker 1: that we're basically a farm club for the for the
- 7:14Speaker 1: bigger teams. So many stars, not just the Twins, but
- 7:17Speaker 1: other teams, if the well, have ultimately left for greener
- 7:20Speaker 1: pastors elsewhere. Karl Anthony Towns just this week, for instance,
- 7:25Speaker 1: becoming NBA champion somewhere else. It seems like you've talked
- 7:30Speaker 1: about him before. You obviously know him better than we do.
- 7:33Speaker 1: I don't know him at all. He seems like the rare,
- 7:37Speaker 1: genuine athlete who even though this is not his hometown
- 7:40Speaker 1: and you would have no reason to live here if
- 7:41Speaker 1: you're not from here it seems to actually enjoy it
- 7:44Speaker 1: or at least be loyal to the team that brought
- 7:45Speaker 1: him up.
- 7:47Speaker 4: Yeah, and it's one you know, like talking to Dan
- 7:50Speaker 4: Gladden kind of about it yesterday and Corey in between things,
- 7:54Speaker 4: and it was like, you know, Joe stayed, you know,
- 7:57Speaker 4: and Joe never went to the World Series.
- 7:59Speaker 5: He came. I guess what right.
- 8:01Speaker 4: After I can't remember, you know, ninety one, Well, not
- 8:04Speaker 4: right after, but you know, not too terribly long after,
- 8:07Speaker 4: so is recent. You know, they've made the playoffs things
- 8:09Speaker 4: like that, but they never got to the World Series.
- 8:12Speaker 4: And that's where the conversation kind of turned to. It's like,
- 8:14Speaker 4: well do you want the World Series? And it's like, well,
- 8:17Speaker 4: sometimes you are comfortable. You've established yourself, your family has
- 8:22Speaker 4: established themselves in a place, like you've got a house,
- 8:25Speaker 4: you've you've worked for now almost what fifteen years within
- 8:30Speaker 4: the organization to have a relationship with so many people
- 8:35Speaker 4: within the community, within the city, at the clubhouse, everything.
- 8:40Speaker 4: There's so many people around that you've now you know,
- 8:42Speaker 4: basically taken into your life and you've become a part
- 8:45Speaker 4: of theirs. And it's like, sometimes you don't want to
- 8:47Speaker 4: start that over. I think that's the thing that gets overlooked.
- 8:50Speaker 4: It's you spend your career somewhere and then you just hey,
- 8:55Speaker 4: you're going over here now, and it's a whole new everything.
- 8:58Speaker 4: You know, even down to his day day just getting
- 9:01Speaker 4: ready for a baseball game, Like he doesn't have to
- 9:03Speaker 4: explain everything.
- 9:04Speaker 5: He shows up.
- 9:05Speaker 4: It's everyone's ready for him when he's ready to get
- 9:08Speaker 4: on the table to get ready for a baseball game.
- 9:09Speaker 5: You know, the strength guys, all that stuff, and so.
- 9:13Speaker 4: Yeah, he's a genuine person, Like this is Buck, Like
- 9:17Speaker 4: he's honest. He's not going to be asked you about anything.
- 9:20Speaker 4: And I think it's more than just not wanting to leave.
- 9:23Speaker 4: It's it's a comfortability. He doesn't need anything else and
- 9:26Speaker 4: he's happy. Like at the end of the day, he's
- 9:28Speaker 4: playing well because he's happy. You plug him in another
- 9:30Speaker 4: lineup because he's a great trade piece and it doesn't
- 9:33Speaker 4: go well, well, then who's to blame. Ultimately they're going
- 9:36Speaker 4: to be like, oh, well, Byron something or other, and
- 9:38Speaker 4: it's like, well, maybe he was good in Minnesota, you know.
- 9:40Speaker 4: And it's just it's such a crazy part of sports,
- 9:44Speaker 4: and I guess the real world for that matter, you
- 9:46Speaker 4: can be good at your job anywhere, and your company
- 9:48Speaker 4: can just say like, hey, we want you to go
- 9:50Speaker 4: to another place. You know, and sometimes that's a big
- 9:52Speaker 4: decision to make, and he's not going to make that,
- 9:55Speaker 4: so at least as of you know, twenty four hours ago,
- 9:59Speaker 4: he's not making that.
- 10:00Speaker 5: He's stayed in Minnesota.
- 10:03Speaker 2: I really do think that something that was like, we
- 10:06Speaker 2: don't know it for sure, but really ownership went out
- 10:10Speaker 2: of its way to go visit him in Georgia in
- 10:13Speaker 2: the offseason, flew to Baxley, and it's a new voice,
- 10:17Speaker 2: it's a new message from ownership, and frankly, it's the
- 10:20Speaker 2: first time that I've thought they were acknowledging a lot
- 10:23Speaker 2: of stuff. I know there's something we're gonna talk about
- 10:24Speaker 2: later with them acknowledging issues they have. But I think
- 10:28Speaker 2: there's a lot of belief in that room. And I
- 10:30Speaker 2: didn't just hear it from Buck. I heard it from
- 10:32Speaker 2: other veteran guys. I asked around about it, and I
- 10:35Speaker 2: think guys think that if they're in a spot where
- 10:38Speaker 2: they could add that, they expect the team to do that,
- 10:44Speaker 2: which is not something the Twins take lightly, and so
- 10:47Speaker 2: I think they think there are promises and once again,
- 10:50Speaker 2: and I loved one list. I think it was Buster
- 10:52Speaker 2: Only's list of like the top twelve executives who are
- 10:56Speaker 2: on the clock here, And it wasn't Jeremy Zohl who's
- 10:58Speaker 2: on the clock.
- 10:59Speaker 3: It's Tom poll who's on the clock.
- 11:01Speaker 2: And I very much agree with that because I think
- 11:03Speaker 2: Tom Pollad has been talking a lot, and I think
- 11:07Speaker 2: he's saying the right things. He wants the fans back,
- 11:09Speaker 2: he wants the players to trust him again, and if
- 11:13Speaker 2: this comes to fruition where the Twins are one and
- 11:15Speaker 2: a half out of the wildcard, he probably has something
- 11:19Speaker 2: to prove to those guys in that room, and that'll
- 11:20Speaker 2: be his first chance to free up some cash or
- 11:24Speaker 2: free up the GM to use prospects to go get
- 11:28Speaker 2: guys and cash. So I mean, I think there's more
- 11:33Speaker 2: to it than that. I think Bucks saw twenty twenty
- 11:35Speaker 2: three and knows what can happen when the Twins win
- 11:38Speaker 2: at home and how exciting that was. And I think
- 11:41Speaker 2: he wants to finish the job, and I think he
- 11:44Speaker 2: doesn't think there as far as everybody might think.
- 11:46Speaker 3: I get it. I understand why.
- 11:47Speaker 2: People would see them as far away, but there are
- 11:51Speaker 2: some things this team does really well, and if they
- 11:53Speaker 2: can figure out a way to make up for the
- 11:55Speaker 2: forty percent, which.
- 11:57Speaker 3: Is a lot, but I mean, you know, the al
- 11:59Speaker 3: is not.
- 12:02Speaker 2: There's a chance to get in and be competitive, and
- 12:05Speaker 2: so I can see why he wants to do it.
- 12:07Speaker 6: Here.
- 12:09Speaker 1: It sets up a very interesting next month and a
- 12:11Speaker 1: half because they're at the end of the day. Vibes
- 12:15Speaker 1: is obviously good right now four straight wins, just swept
- 12:17Speaker 1: the Rangers. Still, though, thirty six and forty overall is
- 12:22Speaker 1: tracking to be about about what they were expected to
- 12:25Speaker 1: be at the beginning of the year, which is a
- 12:27Speaker 1: low seventy mid seventy win team. I think the difference
- 12:32Speaker 1: is when I think of a mid seventies win team,
- 12:36Speaker 1: I think of a team that's just not very good
- 12:37Speaker 1: at anything, like kind of a little bit behind, a
- 12:40Speaker 1: little bit behind pace on in all facets. And like
- 12:43Speaker 1: this team obviously hitting very well at least, scoring runs
- 12:46Speaker 1: very well, some of the other metrics not quite as high. Starting, pitching,
- 12:51Speaker 1: win healthy, could be a top ten rotation in the league.
- 12:54Speaker 1: We saw that early in the season, and there is
- 12:56Speaker 1: reason to believe they will get healthier. Ryan Jeffers is
- 12:59Speaker 1: in and hopefully coming back at some point. It's really
- 13:03Speaker 1: the bullpen is the glaring issue, and that is as
- 13:06Speaker 1: we've talked about on previous shows, Tyler, it's fixable. So like, yeah,
- 13:10Speaker 1: we got thirty seven games before August third, I could
- 13:14Speaker 1: see this team winning between twenty and twenty two or
- 13:17Speaker 1: whatever of those games and being above five hundred or
- 13:20Speaker 1: around five hundred at the deadline. Vibes are still good,
- 13:23Speaker 1: They're still in the mix because the ale is weak,
- 13:26Speaker 1: and I just don't see because of points you've made before, Tyler,
- 13:30Speaker 1: trading away the player who is Minnesota, as you said
- 13:32Speaker 1: once in that cert instance.
- 13:35Speaker 4: Yeah's it wouldn't be the best look, especially when you're competitive.
- 13:39Speaker 4: Like I kind of said, like I can't remember the
- 13:42Speaker 4: year exactly, but you know when we were kind of
- 13:44Speaker 4: in the mix for a wild card maybe even the
- 13:47Speaker 4: division and we got rid of you know, I think
- 13:50Speaker 4: it was Kensler and someone else like at the deadline
- 13:54Speaker 4: and we're kind of looking at each other like what
- 13:55Speaker 4: the hell? Like I thought we were good, you know
- 13:58Speaker 4: kind of thing, like our vibes are up. You know,
- 14:00Speaker 4: we were like, all right, we're rolling kind of thing.
- 14:02Speaker 4: And then we went on a run, and so you know,
- 14:05Speaker 4: we're we playing inspired baseball.
- 14:07Speaker 5: I don't.
- 14:07Speaker 4: You know, sometimes I think that is real. Sometimes I
- 14:10Speaker 4: think it's just coincidence. You know, at the end of
- 14:12Speaker 4: the day, we're just playing baseball. But you know it's
- 14:15Speaker 4: it's one Losing him would be huge, you know, like
- 14:18Speaker 4: I said the other day, Losing a guy like Clemens
- 14:20Speaker 4: who's seemingly kind of find a really good spot for
- 14:24Speaker 4: himself in that clubhouse and in that lineup like those
- 14:27Speaker 4: would hurt, you know, Joe Ryan for that matter, Like
- 14:30Speaker 4: he's one we haven't really talked about being actually traded,
- 14:34Speaker 4: but there's a reality where he gets traded unfortunately, and
- 14:38Speaker 4: it's just like any of those pieces go, like that's
- 14:40Speaker 4: going to be deflating. But at the same time, like
- 14:43Speaker 4: you said, we're still a good ways out. Like make
- 14:46Speaker 4: a little move that one doesn't even make noise right now,
- 14:49Speaker 4: but just solidifies a little bit of that bullpen like
- 14:52Speaker 4: that can go so long and then if it doesn't work,
- 14:54Speaker 4: you can still pull the shoot and get out at
- 14:57Speaker 4: the deadline. You know, it's you could almost make a
- 14:59Speaker 4: move early, you know, nothing major or not talking about
- 15:02Speaker 4: a blockbuster or trade, but like go get you a
- 15:05Speaker 4: piece that you're hey, this guy throws the seventh or
- 15:07Speaker 4: this guy throws the eighth, and then do your closer
- 15:10Speaker 4: by committity and and let it go.
- 15:12Speaker 5: And you know there's a world.
- 15:13Speaker 4: Where that could make a significant enough change to where
- 15:16Speaker 4: you're now in the mix for your division and the
- 15:19Speaker 4: wild card without really having to do a whole lot.
- 15:23Speaker 2: The only problem teams just don't make moves on June twentieth,
- 15:28Speaker 2: nineteenth right here.
- 15:29Speaker 3: This is not the time of year where they do it.
- 15:32Speaker 7: They just say a big one, just a little, just
- 15:34Speaker 7: a little thing. I understand. I totally do what you're saying.
- 15:39Speaker 7: Simon Woods. Richardson has seven shutout in inso Toronto. Maybe
- 15:42Speaker 7: they should go back and get him.
- 15:43Speaker 2: Yeah right, you know, like no, but like it's a
- 15:48Speaker 2: hard time to make a trade, especially because so many
- 15:50Speaker 2: teams are nowhere close to deciding what they're going to do.
- 15:53Speaker 3: But they definitely if you could solidify the pen a
- 15:57Speaker 3: little more.
- 15:58Speaker 2: I looked up the stat yesterday when they got Joendras Gomez,
- 16:02Speaker 2: which was May sixth. Since then in one run games
- 16:06Speaker 2: they are six and six. Before he got there, they
- 16:09Speaker 2: were one in five. So there has been some stability
- 16:12Speaker 2: between him Andrew Morse with that big double play yesterday
- 16:16Speaker 2: and Anthony Bonda throwing ninety six to ninety eight, like
- 16:20Speaker 2: those three have changed the back end to where you
- 16:23Speaker 2: were winning winnable games more often than not. But when
- 16:29Speaker 2: you use those guys a bunch, you need to figure
- 16:32Speaker 2: out a way on the days they're not available. The
- 16:35Speaker 2: way they did that on Tuesday was great. You know,
- 16:38Speaker 2: they scored twelve and took the bullpen out of play,
- 16:41Speaker 2: and they did it again yesterday, and the bullpen on
- 16:43Speaker 2: Thursday was refreshed, and anybody could go on Thursday if
- 16:47Speaker 2: they needed. But scoring nine runs kind of makes it moot.
- 16:50Speaker 2: So the offense can help mask some of those issues.
- 16:53Speaker 2: For right now, really what needs to happen is this
- 16:56Speaker 2: offense needs to stay on a heater. We're gonna talk
- 16:58Speaker 2: a little bit more about the offense coming up here,
- 17:00Speaker 2: but the offense being on a heater can mask some
- 17:02Speaker 2: of those issues, especially if you get healthy with the rotation.
- 17:05Speaker 2: Because if you get healthier with the rotation and mick
- 17:08Speaker 2: Abel's coming back and maybe starting Sunday, Bailey over is
- 17:11Speaker 2: getting closer. If you can mask those issues with the
- 17:14Speaker 2: rotation and pitch mornings, you don't need as many innings
- 17:18Speaker 2: from your bullpen. So the less reliance on your bullpen
- 17:20Speaker 2: now until you can solve those issues is probably the
- 17:23Speaker 2: path for them. But those are doable things I think
- 17:26Speaker 2: for this team over that thirty seven games because the
- 17:29Speaker 2: offensive vibes, especially with Royce going again. You can tell
- 17:33Speaker 2: that they had Jeffers early in the year. They lost
- 17:36Speaker 2: him and they struggled for a little bit and Royce
- 17:39Speaker 2: was gone at that same time Royce got sent down
- 17:42Speaker 2: like the day they announced Jeffers.
- 17:44Speaker 3: But there's good.
- 17:46Speaker 2: Vibes in there, and I know that's what Buckson's talking
- 17:48Speaker 2: about and picking up on, and that's why he is
- 17:50Speaker 2: intent on staying and seeing this through.
- 17:54Speaker 1: Well for now, Dan, good news for you. The Byron
- 17:57Speaker 1: Buxton trade a meter is firmly on the I don't
- 18:02Speaker 1: give a f end of things. So yeah, that's where
- 18:06Speaker 1: we're at today. Still a long way to go to
- 18:08Speaker 1: the trade deadline. But I'll just say take that churn off.
- 18:11Speaker 1: There's the camera take that we'll see. We'll see how
- 18:15Speaker 1: it ends up, but for now, things looking good. All right,
- 18:27Speaker 1: all right, we'll move on now. Just for the record,
- 18:30Speaker 1: I should add I said I could see the Twins
- 18:32Speaker 1: winning twenty to twenty two or whatever games before the deadline.
- 18:35Speaker 1: I could see them losing just as many as well,
- 18:37Speaker 1: so still all outcomes true, All outcomes are possible. But
- 18:43Speaker 1: it's time for a word from FanDuel. The MLB season
- 18:46Speaker 1: is in full swing and fan Duel is giving you
- 18:48Speaker 1: a chance to call your shot with daily dingers. Joining
- 18:51Speaker 1: the action is easy. Just make your free pick on
- 18:53Speaker 1: who's hitting a home run in their game, and if
- 18:55Speaker 1: you're right, you'll get a profit boost to use on
- 18:57Speaker 1: your next bet for a chance at extra winnings. It's
- 18:59Speaker 1: just another reason why fan duel is the home of
- 19:03Speaker 1: home runs. I think we're seven for eight now, correctly
- 19:07Speaker 1: choosing a twin to homer tonight. We'll get to that
- 19:09Speaker 1: in just a second, but we thought this was a
- 19:10Speaker 1: good time to shout out Trevor Larnick series that he
- 19:13Speaker 1: had in Texas woo eight of fourteen, two homers, four ribbies,
- 19:18Speaker 1: four runs scored. He raised his batting average twenty four points.
- 19:21Speaker 1: We've talked about plenty of twins whose offense has been
- 19:25Speaker 1: solid lately. That's one I don't think we've gotten to
- 19:27Speaker 1: a whole lot. So we'll talk more about the end
- 19:30Speaker 1: of the series in Texas and the bats in a minute.
- 19:33Speaker 1: But now it's the time to make our picks, and
- 19:35Speaker 1: it's not going to be an easy one tonight. Gentleman
- 19:38Speaker 1: Michael Soroka on the mound. He's allowed six home runs
- 19:41Speaker 1: on the season in fourteen starts so far. Only Cam
- 19:46Speaker 1: Schlitzler of the Yankees, Dustin May of the Cardinals, and
- 19:49Speaker 1: Jacob Mizerowski of the Brewers have allowed fewer with at
- 19:52Speaker 1: least as many innings pitched as a Soroka. So he's
- 19:56Speaker 1: Alrighty Twins have some lefties who can hit homers. Who
- 20:00Speaker 1: is it gonna beat in?
- 20:00Speaker 3: What do you think I'm going?
- 20:03Speaker 2: With the bounce back from Royce Lewis, who went one
- 20:06Speaker 2: for thirteen in Texas with seven strikeouts, he Larnick acknowledged
- 20:12Speaker 2: it too. Guys talk about how weird some guys don't
- 20:16Speaker 2: see the ball very well there. Royce mentioned it immediately
- 20:19Speaker 2: Friday night or Monday night that it was weird. He
- 20:22Speaker 2: was having trouble seeing the ball, didn't like how he
- 20:26Speaker 2: was feeling at the plate, and you could tell the
- 20:29Speaker 2: whole series. Arizona is a much different place. Arizona is
- 20:33Speaker 2: like the hitter's Shangri law. It is the place everyone
- 20:37Speaker 2: wants to go, big fat backdrop there.
- 20:41Speaker 3: You know, it's like this just solid wall of black.
- 20:47Speaker 2: So the ball you see it well, and the ball
- 20:50Speaker 2: travels there, and it's gonna be warm, even though the
- 20:53Speaker 2: roof will be closed.
- 20:54Speaker 3: It's always warm in Arizona.
- 20:56Speaker 2: So I'm gonna go Royce Lewis because I think, you know,
- 20:59Speaker 2: I don't think that you know, the numbers weren't good
- 21:01Speaker 2: in Texas, but I don't think that was like a
- 21:03Speaker 2: he's taking a step back. I think that was he
- 21:06Speaker 2: just simply didn't see the ball well. And again Larnick
- 21:08Speaker 2: acknowledged you after the game. He's like, some guys have
- 21:10Speaker 2: depth issues here. Some guys are seeing the light that's
- 21:14Speaker 2: coming in because there's a lot of open windows in
- 21:16Speaker 2: that place.
- 21:17Speaker 3: It's a weird ballpark.
- 21:18Speaker 2: It's a nice ballpark, but it's a weird ballpark, especially
- 21:20Speaker 2: for hitters.
- 21:23Speaker 5: Tyler. Yeah, you said his name a few times right there.
- 21:26Speaker 4: I'm going, Larnick, man, he's the way he hit the
- 21:28Speaker 4: ball and seeing it you just stay in person. It
- 21:31Speaker 4: was he's squaring it up well right now, like that
- 21:35Speaker 4: line drive Homer to center yesterday.
- 21:37Speaker 5: It was pretty impressive. So I'm gonna ride the hot
- 21:39Speaker 5: yea and go with the big lefty.
- 21:43Speaker 1: All right, it's a tough call.
- 21:45Speaker 5: Uh.
- 21:47Speaker 1: I think I'm gonna go. He struggled yesterday, but I'm
- 21:51Speaker 1: going to go to the Cody Clemens. Well yeah, let's
- 21:54Speaker 1: see he can get back on track here in Arizona.
- 21:57Speaker 1: So there you have it, Royce Lewis, Cody Clemens, Trevor Laarnak,
- 22:00Speaker 1: our picks. We'll see if we can make it eight
- 22:02Speaker 1: for nine tonight in Arizona. If you want to play,

- 22:43Speaker 1: We will talk about the game.
- 22:44Speaker 6: Now.
- 22:45Speaker 1: There's only been one since the last time we saw you.
- 22:48Speaker 1: We also asked people to send us questions or I did. Anyway,
- 22:52Speaker 1: I'll get some we did. I don't know they will
- 22:54Speaker 1: have time to get to them today, but we'll address
- 22:56Speaker 1: them at some point. So apologies to that. I did
- 22:58Speaker 1: not expect to buyer in bucks an interview and a
- 23:01Speaker 1: legendary quote.
- 23:02Speaker 4: So yeah, that's just a nuke coming out, right.
- 23:07Speaker 1: But the Twins combined with the England national team to
- 23:11Speaker 1: complete a four game sweep in Texas this week. Excuse
- 23:14Speaker 1: me frog in my throat to ruin the joke. It's
- 23:18Speaker 1: a four straight win, fifth and six games. They've bounced
- 23:21Speaker 1: back from a season low eight games under five hundred
- 23:24Speaker 1: to get to within four games of five hundred. They're
- 23:26Speaker 1: a game and a half out of the wild card
- 23:28Speaker 1: in they still very mediocre American League. But I thought
- 23:33Speaker 1: an encouraging sign yesterday Dan Buxton and Lewis we've kind
- 23:37Speaker 1: of touched on it already, but they combined to goh
- 23:39Speaker 1: for ten and yet the offense was still there.
- 23:43Speaker 2: It is because I think this is a group that's
- 23:45Speaker 2: very collective. We've seen the brooks Lee we mentioned their
- 23:50Speaker 2: day brooks Lee and Josh Bell their averages being like
- 23:54Speaker 2: one hundred points above what they're hitting for the regular
- 23:56Speaker 2: season with runners in scoring position. We saw it again
- 24:00Speaker 2: yesterday in that first inning. Josh Bell had a monster
- 24:02Speaker 2: series too. He went six for twelve. Josh Bell grew
- 24:05Speaker 2: up like ten minutes away from Global Life Park or
- 24:09Speaker 2: Global Live Field, whatever it's called. But he loves going there,
- 24:12Speaker 2: he loves hitting there. His numbers in Texas all time
- 24:15Speaker 2: are ridiculous. But he went six for twelve in the series,
- 24:17Speaker 2: double homer, six RBIs, two walks, and he had another
- 24:22Speaker 2: two out RBI single in the first inning to kind
- 24:25Speaker 2: of break the back of a very good pitcher again,
- 24:29Speaker 2: like the Rangers have good starting pitching, and you get
- 24:33Speaker 2: through and you just keep the pressure on, and brooks
- 24:35Speaker 2: Lee follows with a three run homer right away. I
- 24:38Speaker 2: just think that, you know, Buxton is doing this incredible thing,
- 24:42Speaker 2: and then Royce lewis coming in and showing what he does,
- 24:46Speaker 2: and the guy's seeing it has again it's just another
- 24:51Speaker 2: way of taking pressure off. But also you're seeing so
- 24:54Speaker 2: many guys brooks Lee playing.
- 24:57Speaker 3: Free and easy.
- 24:57Speaker 2: Luke Keishall has found a new gear since I think
- 25:01Speaker 2: his season low OPS was five point thirty one on
- 25:04Speaker 2: May first or second, I tweeted this stat out yesterday.
- 25:08Speaker 2: Since then, his on base is three ninety seven. He
- 25:13Speaker 2: is at the ninth spot, feeding the top of the lineup.
- 25:16Speaker 2: Yesterday he got on base four times. So when it's
- 25:19Speaker 2: rolling around to Larnick, who had a monster game yesterday,
- 25:22Speaker 2: I think he got on base four times yesterday. When
- 25:25Speaker 2: you're getting around to Larnick and Buxton, Keishall who's super quick,
- 25:29Speaker 2: is there, and if you put a ball in the gap,
- 25:31Speaker 2: he's going first to third, and if he's on second already,
- 25:34Speaker 2: he's scoring.
- 25:35Speaker 3: There's just so many guys that are complimenting.
- 25:37Speaker 2: Each spot in the lineup, and it's it's weird because
- 25:40Speaker 2: very few guys are having standout years.
- 25:42Speaker 3: But Cody Clemens is having a very good year.
- 25:46Speaker 2: It's not like guys numbers are jumping off the pages
- 25:49Speaker 2: aside from Byron's home runs, but you look around and
- 25:52Speaker 2: there's a lot of guys doing a lot of good things.
- 25:55Speaker 2: And we saw it twenty five to seven in this
- 25:57Speaker 2: series against the Rangers again, who have pitching never trailed
- 26:02Speaker 2: in the series. For whatever reason, they played really well
- 26:05Speaker 2: at that park they have the last couple of years
- 26:08Speaker 2: that I've been there. Buck had a big series in
- 26:11Speaker 2: September last year. They won three of four in twenty
- 26:14Speaker 2: twenty four, although the fourth one was when the day
- 26:18Speaker 2: the spell began, the twelve and twenty nine stretch to
- 26:21Speaker 2: end the season. Twelve and twenty seven to end the season,
- 26:23Speaker 2: they had like a five run lead and Alcala gave
- 26:25Speaker 2: it up in eight.
- 26:26Speaker 3: Pitches and the season tailed spinned right there.
- 26:30Speaker 2: So the fact that twins one yesterday was a good
- 26:33Speaker 2: omen for where they could be headed because they did
- 26:35Speaker 2: not blow a big lead like they did that day
- 26:37Speaker 2: in twenty twenty four. Look, there's just good vibes in
- 26:40Speaker 2: the offense. You can see it. I think they consistently
- 26:43Speaker 2: have a good plan. They're buying into the coaching staff's plan,
- 26:47Speaker 2: and I think when everybody buys in and sticks to it.
- 26:51Speaker 2: Brooks Lee said it there night after about Cody Clemens.
- 26:54Speaker 2: They were looking against who was Tuesday night's pitcher. It
- 26:59Speaker 2: wasn't Gore, was Kumar Rocker. They were looking out up
- 27:04Speaker 2: and over. They yeah, they were just looking for out
- 27:07Speaker 2: up and over. That's what they were going to hit.
- 27:10Speaker 2: And Clemens got out up and over and hit a
- 27:12Speaker 2: three run homer. Lee did that yesterday. I think the
- 27:14Speaker 2: plan is sound. I think guys are buying into it.
- 27:17Speaker 2: There's good communication. These dudes like each other. Byron was
- 27:20Speaker 2: saying that early in the year that the communication in
- 27:23Speaker 2: the dugout of what they're seeing is really solid. And
- 27:26Speaker 2: I think when you have group buying, you can get
- 27:29Speaker 2: a lot accomplished, and that's what we're seeing.
- 27:31Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 27:32Speaker 1: We talked about the the importance of Josh Bell's hit
- 27:35Speaker 1: against Rocker on Wednesday show in the first inning brooks Lee.
- 27:39Speaker 1: Same deal on Thursday the Twins. They got one run in,
- 27:42Speaker 1: but then he gets the three run homer over the wall,
- 27:45Speaker 1: and that for a team that had already won the
- 27:46Speaker 1: first two games. You could you could just I wasn't
- 27:48Speaker 1: even there, guys, you were, but I could feel the
- 27:50Speaker 1: building just going.
- 27:52Speaker 4: Yeah, especially that homer. It was like it was it
- 27:55Speaker 4: was kind of like almost unexpected. I guess it was
- 27:58Speaker 4: just like the next thing, you ball off the right
- 28:01Speaker 4: field wall again, and I was like, well, that was quick,
- 28:04Speaker 4: like and it all started on Bell's single like it
- 28:06Speaker 4: was the inning was over basically, and then Bell just
- 28:08Speaker 4: dunks one and the next thing you know, there's a
- 28:10Speaker 4: three n shot that's for nothing with Joe on the mound,
- 28:13Speaker 4: and we were kind of looking.
- 28:15Speaker 5: At each other.
- 28:15Speaker 4: It's like, well, all Joe's has to do is just
- 28:17Speaker 4: show up today and we win this game.
- 28:19Speaker 5: And you know he did.
- 28:22Speaker 3: Yeah, you know what. The building, sorry, the building kind
- 28:25Speaker 3: of deflated.
- 28:26Speaker 2: There were a lot of Japanese soccer fans and a
- 28:28Speaker 2: lot of English soccer fans there.
- 28:30Speaker 3: And they were excited for everything. Dude. That was such
- 28:34Speaker 3: a cool That was amazing, the like there was.
- 28:37Speaker 2: They played in between innings like some song from Japan
- 28:42Speaker 2: and they would find like three all three games they'd
- 28:44Speaker 2: find people with the Japanese flags and wearing Japanese goodness,
- 28:52Speaker 2: and my goodness, the energy was so much fun for
- 28:55Speaker 2: that reason, like, that's the closest we got to any
- 28:57Speaker 2: of this World Cup basically, even though it was right
- 29:00Speaker 2: next door. Was the fans around and that so yes,
- 29:03Speaker 2: Ranger fans were deflated, Zach, but not the soccer fans
- 29:07Speaker 2: who were like, we're at a baseball game and we're
- 29:09Speaker 2: on the big screen. Now, this is amazing, showing their
- 29:11Speaker 2: flags off the school.
- 29:12Speaker 1: There was a great little bit on the broadcast. I
- 29:14Speaker 1: don't know if you guys saw from Audre Martin where
- 29:17Speaker 1: apparently Royce Lewis went to the England game and got
- 29:20Speaker 1: caught up celebrating with fans after the game. There was
- 29:22Speaker 1: a video of him jumping around with and he said
- 29:25Speaker 1: that the England fans had no idea who he was, which,
- 29:27Speaker 1: of course why would they. So, yeah, it seems like
- 29:31Speaker 1: some fun was had there this week for sure.
- 29:35Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 29:35Speaker 2: It sounds like TODs Bradley went too, but not a
- 29:37Speaker 2: lot of guys did. It's super expensive.
- 29:40Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, speaking of expensive everything is these days, but
- 29:46Speaker 1: baseball tickets can be up there too. How's this first segue?
- 29:49Speaker 3: Dan?
- 29:50Speaker 5: The Twins smooth?
- 29:52Speaker 1: The Twins have a what I'm calling a bold new
- 29:57Speaker 1: season ticket idea going on right now, Dan, why don't
- 29:59Speaker 1: you explain?
- 30:01Speaker 3: Okay, So here's the deal.
- 30:03Speaker 2: The Twins recognize that there are not a lot of
- 30:06Speaker 2: people going to the games, even the people that paid
- 30:10Speaker 2: for their tickets already, their season tickets.
- 30:12Speaker 5: Are already bottom and they are still not coming right.
- 30:16Speaker 2: So from that perspective, it's like, oh man, this is
- 30:20Speaker 2: this is kind of hilarious. But I love what they're doing,
- 30:24Speaker 2: which is they were rewarding those season ticket holders. They're saying, hey, look,
- 30:27Speaker 2: you paid for this already, we want you to come
- 30:30Speaker 2: to these games. We're exciting. We're better than maybe you
- 30:33Speaker 2: guys thought we were. So for every game that you
- 30:36Speaker 2: have already attended, and every game you attend the rest
- 30:39Speaker 2: of the way, as long as it's you or like
- 30:43Speaker 2: a fan, like a family member, friend, something like that,
- 30:46Speaker 2: where you're just transferring your tickets, you get fifteen percent
- 30:49Speaker 2: off every game you attend, and then if the Twins
- 30:52Speaker 2: win that game, you get another five percent off, and
- 30:55Speaker 2: all of it the money goes towards a discount on
- 30:59Speaker 2: your seat and tickets next year, so you can get
- 31:04Speaker 2: up to twenty percent off of whatever, say you spend
- 31:07Speaker 2: sixty bucks a game, you know, twelve bucks a game
- 31:10Speaker 2: off of your package next year. And I would be
- 31:12Speaker 2: really shocked if they raised prices coming off this year,
- 31:17Speaker 2: especially if there's potentially a work stoppage, like it's gonna
- 31:20Speaker 2: be hard to sell tickets next year to fans who
- 31:24Speaker 2: are not convinced there is a work stoppage coming like
- 31:27Speaker 2: to put their money down for season tickets. So I
- 31:29Speaker 2: would be shocked if there's a raise, So you might
- 31:32Speaker 2: be getting like just a flat discount of twenty percent.
- 31:35Speaker 2: And again it is it is it is wild that
- 31:40Speaker 2: this is what they're going to the length they're going
- 31:42Speaker 2: to do this, because I mean, you've spent the money,
- 31:46Speaker 2: you don't they don't care, but they know it aesthetically
- 31:48Speaker 2: it's looking like on TV, and they want to reward
- 31:51Speaker 2: their most loyal fans. And I do think that acknowledging
- 31:56Speaker 2: their issue. There's some kind of there's something to take
- 31:59Speaker 2: from that because the twins are saying, look, we suck.
- 32:02Speaker 3: Well, like they've said it. Tom Poula didn't say it
- 32:05Speaker 3: that way. He said they made.
- 32:06Speaker 2: Missteps that have injured their relationship with the fan base.
- 32:10Speaker 2: But basically he was saying, we suck, and we've sucked
- 32:13Speaker 2: for three years, and this is another move to try
- 32:15Speaker 2: and win those fans back. You can't do anything until
- 32:18Speaker 2: you can't. Everybody wants you to win, right That's the
- 32:21Speaker 2: main thing you have to do is win to win
- 32:24Speaker 2: your fans. And spending like fans want to see spending, well,
- 32:28Speaker 2: they can't do much about the spending right now, so
- 32:32Speaker 2: they're doing it in these other ways. They're just doing little,
- 32:35Speaker 2: you know, moves here and there, and you throw in
- 32:37Speaker 2: you know, the happy hour and the two dour beers
- 32:40Speaker 2: that go on before games on Friday and Saturday for
- 32:45Speaker 2: all fans, and I think it might be for most
- 32:49Speaker 2: games for season ticket holders that they have two dour
- 32:52Speaker 2: pregame beers available to them. But like they've just taken
- 32:55Speaker 2: these steps here and there where they can to at
- 32:58Speaker 2: least acknowlede that they've screwed up and that they want
- 33:02Speaker 2: to win their fans back. And again, you can't build
- 33:05Speaker 2: it in one night. You can't build Rome overnight, right,
- 33:07Speaker 2: it takes was it brick by brick?
- 33:10Speaker 3: Is that what it is? You gotta you gotta go
- 33:13Speaker 3: small steps?
- 33:14Speaker 5: The free buoygans out or something.
- 33:18Speaker 1: It's it's like it's it's easy to chuckle about it.
- 33:21Speaker 1: Obviously it's a move born out of some semblance of
- 33:24Speaker 1: desperation given the attendance. But like, yeah, would you rather
- 33:28Speaker 1: they not try? Would you rather they raise prices?
- 33:30Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 33:31Speaker 3: Like at least you know, are you getting mad about
- 33:34Speaker 3: a discount like that? Yeah?
- 33:37Speaker 4: I mean my kid already go ahead, the money's already
- 33:40Speaker 4: been spent. Like these are people who spent thousands of dollars. Yeah,
- 33:44Speaker 4: probably they just aren't coming to a game. And it's
- 33:46Speaker 4: just like what it like, honestly, it's like who are
- 33:48Speaker 4: we selling them to?
- 33:49Speaker 5: You know?
- 33:50Speaker 4: It's like, maybe give it just if they're open. I've
- 33:52Speaker 4: always said, I don't I think this would be a
- 33:54Speaker 4: great idea. They probably wouldn't. But when all those seats
- 33:57Speaker 4: behind home plates are open, go grab every right from
- 34:00Speaker 4: the top and say, hey, you guys, come sit behind
- 34:02Speaker 4: home plate? Like who does that harm? You're still going
- 34:05Speaker 4: to sell the same beer and everything else. Like just
- 34:07Speaker 4: move them down to the lower bowl and make at
- 34:10Speaker 4: least it feel like for the players that there's more people.
- 34:12Speaker 4: You know, It's just that's one I've always wondered, I.
- 34:15Speaker 1: Might spend even more on food and drink because you've
- 34:18Speaker 1: got that nice bar underneath the home plate, Like I
- 34:21Speaker 1: get any cocktail I want. Heck, yeah, Like you can't
- 34:23Speaker 1: get that. You can't get that up in the three hundreds.
- 34:25Speaker 1: But yeah, and it's also like there, you know, there's
- 34:29Speaker 1: the there's the you know, personnel side of the team,
- 34:32Speaker 1: and then there's the sales and marketing side of the team.
- 34:34Speaker 1: And yes, they're all under the same umbrella, but like
- 34:37Speaker 1: they're trying to communications not always there, right, they're trying
- 34:40Speaker 1: to put lipstick on the pig. And also like it
- 34:43Speaker 1: you know, there's it may not be a pig at
- 34:46Speaker 1: the end of the day, like right, you know, the
- 34:48Speaker 1: team has shown a little bit more heart than I
- 34:51Speaker 1: think we all maybe expected coming into the year. And
- 34:54Speaker 1: again it's early, et cetera, et cetera, caveat, caveat, but
- 34:59Speaker 1: we'll see.
- 34:59Speaker 2: They would they would love if they were given out
- 35:01Speaker 2: that extra five percent for the wins.
- 35:02Speaker 3: They would exactly exactly, And so I don't know. Again,
- 35:08Speaker 3: I get there's a reason to be cynical about it.
- 35:11Speaker 2: It's like, hey, come to the park, You've already it's
- 35:14Speaker 2: a sunk cost.
- 35:15Speaker 3: You've already paid for this.
- 35:18Speaker 1: Right but yeah, or like you just to like give
- 35:22Speaker 1: him to a friend if you're not going to go,
- 35:24Speaker 1: and then you still get the discount reward next year,
- 35:26Speaker 1: you know something, just like some incentive to yeah, yeah,
- 35:31Speaker 1: all right, So well we'll see, uh they do. This
- 35:34Speaker 1: is well timed because, of course the next home stand
- 35:36Speaker 1: it starts Monday against the Dodgers, which is a team
- 35:39Speaker 1: you would think they could bring in a crowd for
- 35:41Speaker 1: I believe Otani is scheduled to pitch at least last tight.
- 35:45Speaker 3: Yeah, he walked off with a blister.
- 35:46Speaker 2: He did walk off the day, so we'll see. But
- 35:51Speaker 2: I believe it's supposed to go Wednesday, so that would
- 35:54Speaker 2: be great. Yeah, that'll be a drawing no matter what.
- 35:56Speaker 1: But before that another segue. This weekends are in Arizona
- 36:01Speaker 1: to finish up this road trip against the Diamondbacks. Guys, Uh,
- 36:06Speaker 1: they're going to be feeling good. Sweep in Texas road
- 36:10Speaker 1: trip is already at least a three and three situation,
- 36:12Speaker 1: but Arizona dan another feisty team, a strong picture tonight
- 36:16Speaker 1: in Soroka, Zach Gallon Tomorrow night, and then Ryan Nelson
- 36:20Speaker 1: in the finale on Sunday. The twins have U is
- 36:23Speaker 1: it it's Connor pre Lip tonight and then Taj is
- 36:26Speaker 1: that right?
- 36:26Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 36:27Speaker 1: And then Taj may Yeah.
- 36:32Speaker 3: I think it's TB.
- 36:34Speaker 2: A is listed which means to be announced, and that
- 36:37Speaker 2: means that it's already been determined.
- 36:39Speaker 3: I saw I saw say that yesterday and.
- 36:45Speaker 2: Yeah, and if that is if to be announced, then
- 36:47Speaker 2: it would definitely be mickable as long as he gets
- 36:49Speaker 2: through his light bullpen Friday. Well, but yeah, they're they're
- 36:53Speaker 2: they're in a good role.
- 36:55Speaker 1: Uh.
- 36:55Speaker 2: Last time they need to look to avoid a repeat
- 36:58Speaker 2: of that last three city trip they swept in Boston,
- 37:01Speaker 2: went to Chicago and summarily got their asses kicked and lost.
- 37:05Speaker 3: Three or fourth to the White Sox.
- 37:06Speaker 2: So you know, getting some early runs again here today
- 37:10Speaker 2: would be good. Bullpen's fresh. You Anders Gomez didn't pitch yesterday,
- 37:14Speaker 2: Anthony Bonda didn't pitch yesterday, Andrew Morris through four pitches
- 37:19Speaker 2: got that critical double play ball.
- 37:22Speaker 3: So they're in a good spot where.
- 37:23Speaker 2: You could use those guys two of three games if
- 37:25Speaker 2: you really needed to and win yourself a series. So
- 37:30Speaker 2: you know, the bats are just going to continue to
- 37:33Speaker 2: be key, and the defense very good defensive series for
- 37:36Speaker 2: the Twins in Texas on a fast surface and Arizona's
- 37:40Speaker 2: gonna be just as fast.
- 37:41Speaker 3: But you know what, once again, no rain delays.
- 37:46Speaker 4: In a night at the Phoenician is going to have
- 37:48Speaker 4: the boys feeling good today, so it'll be good to go.
- 37:51Speaker 1: That's phony p.
- 37:53Speaker 6: H O.
- 37:56Speaker 5: Phoey. And I think there's an X and a Z
- 37:58Speaker 5: in there somewhere.
- 37:59Speaker 1: You know, I thought I thought you might have made Venetian,
- 38:01Speaker 1: Like are they going to Vegas quickly?
- 38:02Speaker 5: Like could pop over real quick?
- 38:05Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 38:07Speaker 2: Uh, by the way, real quick, you guys. We just
- 38:09Speaker 2: had a full on cat fight right next to me.
- 38:12Speaker 2: It was amazing. You guys see your children run.
- 38:14Speaker 5: Through another show that would be cool.
- 38:17Speaker 3: One one cat.
- 38:19Speaker 2: Was sleeping on top of the hamper and the other
- 38:21Speaker 2: was like, oh, that looks comfortable and went over and
- 38:23Speaker 2: just fought the other cat and knocked the little skinny
- 38:26Speaker 2: cat off.
- 38:26Speaker 3: So that was that was entertaining. Sorry I should have
- 38:29Speaker 3: brought the camera over, but.
- 38:31Speaker 5: The only show a cat fight isn't cool.
- 38:35Speaker 1: Tyler. Uh, did you ever play in Arizona when the
- 38:40Speaker 1: roof was open?
- 38:42Speaker 5: I don't know that it can open to be it?
- 38:45Speaker 5: Can it is?
- 38:47Speaker 1: I've been there a handful of times, and just last
- 38:50Speaker 1: year for the first time, I went in May and
- 38:52Speaker 1: it wasn't you know, deathly hot yet, So the roof
- 38:54Speaker 1: roof was open. What a place When the roof is open,
- 38:57Speaker 1: it's just you know.
- 38:58Speaker 4: Yeah, it's it's a dungeon. When roofs close, it's like
- 39:01Speaker 4: Weirdly again, lighting in those places does get funky, like
- 39:05Speaker 4: even when it's on, You're like is it dark in here?
- 39:08Speaker 5: Or like something not on?
- 39:09Speaker 4: And then Dan was saying, yesterday, I guess the owner
- 39:12Speaker 4: doesn't love turning the AC on either, So like sometimes
- 39:14Speaker 4: it's still hot even though it's a closed building with ac.
- 39:19Speaker 5: But either way the ball is gonna fly. So okay,
- 39:22Speaker 5: the boys are swinging with some launch angle.
- 39:26Speaker 1: Pacific time zone. So we have an eight to forty
- 39:28Speaker 1: five start tonight on Friday, nine to ten on Saturday night,
- 39:32Speaker 1: that's right, and then two fifteen in the afternoon on Sunday.
- 39:35Speaker 1: And fans will love to know that tonight's game is
- 39:38Speaker 1: an Apple TV game and Sundays is a Peacock game.
- 39:41Speaker 2: So uh yeah, that means that means there's no DAF
- 39:46Speaker 2: and unfortunately no deaf in the booth.
- 39:49Speaker 1: Another segue with those broadcasts we have to close later,
- 39:56Speaker 1: we have to close the shoutout to Tyler Duffy who
- 39:59Speaker 1: was in the broadcast yesterday. Yes I have a picture.
- 40:02Speaker 1: Uh there was Trevor and Greg is seta. How did
- 40:05Speaker 1: it go?
- 40:06Speaker 5: How did you enjoy it?
- 40:07Speaker 4: It was fun, man, it was fun. I like, I
- 40:09Speaker 4: kind of on a whim, decided to go up. You know,
- 40:11Speaker 4: it's just down the road, and uh so drove up
- 40:14Speaker 4: and we're kind of, you know, shooting the breeze and
- 40:17Speaker 4: then next thing you know, they're like, hey, in the
- 40:19Speaker 4: third you'll do both Radio NTV. It was like, oh,
- 40:22Speaker 4: I guess we're doing this, so you know, obviously I
- 40:25Speaker 4: played with Trevor and Greg was great, So it was
- 40:28Speaker 4: it was fun. You know, it's one I've I've always enjoyed,
- 40:31Speaker 4: you know, getting to kind of observe, especially from the
- 40:35Speaker 4: not necessarily Dan's angle, but from where the booths are
- 40:37Speaker 4: normally for TV. It's like it's one of the better
- 40:40Speaker 4: seats you have, and.
- 40:42Speaker 5: You know, it's it's fun.
- 40:43Speaker 4: You know, I love watching the game, and you know,
- 40:45Speaker 4: getting the kind of chit chat about it while it's
- 40:47Speaker 4: happening is fun.
- 40:48Speaker 5: And you know, it's it's getting.
- 40:51Speaker 4: To see all those guys too, like Corey and Danny
- 40:53Speaker 4: in the radio booth. It's they're they're always a good time.
- 40:55Speaker 4: So it was it was fun. I enjoyed every minute
- 40:58Speaker 4: of it.
- 40:59Speaker 3: We did you, Yeah, he did, Greg.
- 41:02Speaker 2: I liked how Greg meanted mentioned our limited skirmish with Atlanta.
- 41:09Speaker 4: Podcast pretty well yesterday. Yeah, we hit it several times.
- 41:12Speaker 4: So thanks for the shadowt We're pushing it. My mom
- 41:16Speaker 4: always wanted My mom always wanted to hear my name
- 41:18Speaker 4: on a Twins broadcast, so you made her wish yesterday.
- 41:23Speaker 1: With that. We will be back with you on Monday
- 41:26Speaker 1: to break down whatever happens in Arizona and tee up
- 41:29Speaker 1: a series against the Dodgers, which will also mark the
- 41:32Speaker 1: passing of the midway point of the season for the
- 41:35Speaker 1: Twins uh three game homestand with the Dodgers coming up
- 41:38Speaker 1: next week. If you like what you hear, please toss
- 41:40Speaker 1: us a like, a comment, a subscribe. If you're watching

- 41:48Speaker 1: have you following along with us as we head towards
- 41:52Speaker 1: what should be a very interesting trade deadline. Will they sell,
- 41:56Speaker 1: will they buy? Will they stand pat Will Dan Hayes
- 41:59Speaker 1: get the better of Matt turn Off in Atlanta? We'll
- 42:01Speaker 1: find all that out about thirty thirty eight or so
- 42:05Speaker 1: short days. Thanks for listening. We will see you Monday.
- 42:08Speaker 1: Until then, but bye, have a good weekend everybody.
