- 0:49We're so glad you joined us. Let's get started.
- 0:54To God be the glory. Welcome back to the Healthy
- 0:58Redeemed. Podcast I'm your.
- 0:59Host Haley It is a good day in the neighborhood and this is
- 1:04episode 25. It is our final show for Season
- 1:091. Oh my gosh, I'm acting so
- 1:12official. I don't even know what seasons
- 1:16mean so I don't know what I'm talking about but but.
- 1:21Technically it is. I've, you know, podcast have
- 1:25seasons, I guess like TV shows and so I don't even know where
- 1:29the season starts and where it begins.
- 1:31I mean where it ends and where it begins.
- 1:33But I've decided that season one will end on episode 25.
- 1:39I have talked a ton about mental health this season.
- 1:45Oh my goodness, that sounds so funny to say.
- 1:47But anyway, so I've talked a lot about mental health.
- 1:51I, I did a few other things. I did a Christmas reading also
- 1:55that it wasn't really mental health per SE, but so it's been
- 2:00a fun 25 episodes. I hope that you have felt
- 2:05encouraged and that even if you haven't technically taken any
- 2:11action on anything, that I hope listening has been encouraging
- 2:17for you and maybe have maybe it's made you think differently
- 2:22about something, or at least the option of thinking different
- 2:26about something. I hope that you've made some
- 2:28changes in your life either to your thinking or or in
- 2:32behaviors. And I want to remind you that if
- 2:36you have been making changes that slow progress or small
- 2:42progress is still progress nonetheless.
- 2:46So if you have goals of wanting to be different in some area
- 2:51that don't give up on that just because it's slow going or that
- 2:56you have hit an obstacle or two. Remember, obstacles are going to
- 3:01come in our journey. Hopefully we have a destination
- 3:07in mind, but honestly, we are always on a journey in this
- 3:13life, whether it's to be more mentally healthy, to be more
- 3:17spiritually healthy or emotionally healthy or
- 3:20physically healthy. It's a constant journey.
- 3:23We can't just kind of get there and that be it.
- 3:26That's, Can you imagine that physically, if that were true,
- 3:31that we just go to the gym or or do stuff at home and we just get
- 3:37in really good shape and then we're done.
- 3:40You don't have to do it anymore. That would be great.
- 3:43But I, I think our mental and emotional journey and spiritual
- 3:50journey is the same as that. Like I don't think we just, we
- 3:54suddenly arrive. I think that we learn stuff and
- 3:57grow in all sorts of ways throughout our time, but it's a
- 4:04constant one. We don't actually just arrive
- 4:08and then we can sit on our tough.
- 4:12I would encourage you maybe even to, if you are trying to make
- 4:18some, you know, mental, emotional, spiritual changes in
- 4:22your life that maybe you just sit down and think about how am
- 4:25I acting different? How am I thinking different?
- 4:30What has that look like from my perspective?
- 4:34What has that look like from God's perspective?
- 4:37What does that look like from other people's perspective?
- 4:41People, my family, my friends, have they noticed sometimes some
- 4:46of our deeper changes, others may not even notice.
- 4:50They might notice something's different, but they don't
- 4:52exactly know what. Because like if we're working on
- 4:55something like anger, not everybody's actually going to
- 5:00see that. So it may just be something that
- 5:03we show a small amount of people.
- 5:06So like our friends may not even know that we've worked on our
- 5:11anger. However, they may notice that
- 5:15our perspective has changed on things because, you know, our
- 5:18perspective has to change. If we are thinking different
- 5:23about anger or we're not as anxious as we used to be, maybe
- 5:28they didn't know we were anxious about things, but our
- 5:31perspective about life is a little bit different.
- 5:34Our perspective about God and our trust in Him is different.
- 5:38So they may notice things like that, but I would make note of
- 5:41those things that you've changed.
- 5:43That's one of the great things about going to see a counselor
- 5:47that I hear my clients say sometimes is that, oh, I didn't
- 5:51really realize that I had changed so much or just going,
- 5:57yeah, I hadn't thought about it that way because sometimes I
- 6:01always like to point out things that they are missing, that
- 6:05they're not even noticing that they're doing different than
- 6:08they had done before. And so that's a real joy to go,
- 6:12hey, you are doing this. And they were like.
- 6:17Yeah, I am. It's like sometimes you just
- 6:20need someone to point that out to you.
- 6:22I was trying to think in ways that I've changed during the
- 6:25podcast, like 25 episodes so that I started like nearly five
- 6:32months ago. Or it'll be probably 5 months by
- 6:35the time this episode hits. How have I changed?
- 6:40And I know that one thing, like I'm always thinking about the
- 6:44podcast, like I'm thinking about episodes that would be helpful
- 6:48for people that listeners could resonate with and find helpful
- 6:54information to integrate into their lives.
- 6:57I noticed that that's on my mind a lot.
- 6:59And it's kind of neat to be always thinking, I mean, I am a
- 7:05counselor, so that's kind of my job to help people.
- 7:07But to really be thinking all the time, how can I help or what
- 7:14can I do to help? What can I talk about that might
- 7:17be helpful? Because when I go to work, like
- 7:21I go to work and I do leave it there if something is bothering
- 7:26me or I told someone I would pray for them.
- 7:29I do pray. Sometimes I pray for them and
- 7:32they don't know it. But other than that, I normally
- 7:35leave work at work. But with the podcast, I've known
- 7:38it's, I've noticed that it's pretty consuming of my mind,
- 7:41which is not a bad thing because it's consumed with what does God
- 7:46want me to do? What does he want me to talk
- 7:49about? And I don't always hear a clear
- 7:52answer, but I do feel a leaning like if I can't get something
- 7:56off my mind, that's probably where I'll I'll go.
- 7:59I've recorded episodes and said that was bad.
- 8:04I stay on the same topic, but I'll just kind of start all
- 8:07over. So I did tend to, I waste a lot
- 8:10of time. No wonder this is on my mind a
- 8:12lot. The other thing that has helped
- 8:14me, and I think this is with any endeavor I do is really helping
- 8:19me stay focused on the calling God has of me.
- 8:25So if it's something small or big.
- 8:27So like, for example, I've written several books.
- 8:31None of them are best sellers. I mean, they sell.
- 8:35But like, you know, my dream would be I could have an income
- 8:40with all the sales of the books I'm making or the the all the
- 8:45books that I'm writing. But, you know, is that, yeah, I
- 8:51have to go back to always, what has God called me to do?
- 8:58And he doesn't promise results. Like sometimes if people answer
- 9:04God's call, they'll know like, Oh yeah, God was really with me
- 9:09because look at this and this and this way that he showed up.
- 9:13But I'm not convinced that that's the only indicator God's
- 9:18called you is success. Like I think that sometimes
- 9:22things aren't going to be like I'm pretty much convinced I'm
- 9:28not going to have thousands of followers ever in my life for
- 9:35many reasons. I mean, I, I think just because
- 9:38I know how God works with me after 20 years now, not to put
- 9:43him in a box, but like I know what he's always trying to work
- 9:47out in me. And so I know that, yeah,
- 9:50probably being a success is not going to be helpful to my
- 9:55integrity and things I'd like to think it would be, but I don't,
- 10:01I don't know. I just don't know that that's
- 10:03where God has called me and that's OK.
- 10:06But so in that, I have to curb my visions of worldly success.
- 10:15I have to remember and focus on what I think God has said or
- 10:20called me to do and not worry about the results.
- 10:25And this is like daily for me. So I don't know if you can
- 10:30relate to that of just God calling you to something and it
- 10:34didn't seem successful as as we would think successful looks
- 10:39like. But I think anytime we do
- 10:41something out of obedience to God, regardless of what the
- 10:45result is that we are still successful.
- 10:50And that's in air quotes successful because we've acted
- 10:56out of obedience and and that's what matters at the end of day.
- 11:00At the end of the day in our relationship with God is are we
- 11:05obedient? Do we trust him enough to obey
- 11:10him? And if the answer is yes, then
- 11:14we don't care what the results are.
- 11:17We let him take care of that. There is a scripture in Ezekiel
- 11:22where God is calling Ezekiel to go preach to the Israelites and
- 11:28he says, but they aren't going to listen.
- 11:32That's a Healy paraphrase. So go preach to the people, but
- 11:37they're not going to listen. Like that's, that's I'm glad God
- 11:43doesn't give us the results of our call, you know, beforehand
- 11:48because it might be like, Oh my gosh, like why am I going to go
- 11:52preach to them if they're not even going to listen?
- 11:56But there are people that listen.
- 12:00Those people didn't listen, but hopefully we're listening.
- 12:05We get to read the words. We get to be encouraged.
- 12:08It's not about everything else. It's about our obedience because
- 12:13our obedience speaks to trust and I don't have that all down
- 12:20to a science in my life. I wished I was obedient every
- 12:23time God told me to do something.
- 12:26Through this podcast and through a writing books, I have just
- 12:34learned that I will always or that I always want to trust God.
- 12:39I want to do that better and better every day because I'm
- 12:42convinced that most of our lessons in life is about
- 12:46learning to trust him more because it seems like this is a
- 12:50constant theme throughout Scripture.
- 12:53Trust me, trust me. No, not trust me, Healy, but
- 12:58trust me God, that God says that to us.
- 13:02He wants us to trust him. And I talked a little bit about
- 13:07in the last episode about, you know, when he says things like
- 13:10do not fear for I am with you that that is saying basically,
- 13:17trust me, I've got you. I know I say that a lot, but but
- 13:22but that's, that's true. And I want to get to a place
- 13:25where that is really true in my life.
- 13:29And I hope in yours too. I hope that if you feel like God
- 13:35is calling you to something, maybe just do a heart check to
- 13:39make sure that isn't your own vain self.
- 13:42Because man, that little part of our self always sneaks up and is
- 13:49trying to intervene in our life. But if you feel like it's God,
- 13:55seek him, seek him, seek him. And when you really feel like,
- 13:59OK, yes, he's calling me to this particular ministry or this
- 14:03particular thing to do, then do that and don't worry about the
- 14:08results. And if you need encouragement,
- 14:11let me know. Does your child ever have big
- 14:14worries? My newest children's book, The
- 14:16Worried Little Goat, is a sweet and educational story about
- 14:20Asher, a curious newborn goat with so many questions about the
- 14:24world around him with each answer from his loving maw.
- 14:29Asher learns. Not only about life on the farm,
- 14:31but also about trust, love, and finding peace in the care of
- 14:35their loving goatherd. I hope you will make this book a
- 14:38part of your child's reading library.
- 14:41Get your copy at any online bookstore today.
- 14:46I'm going to end today's episode with some encouraging scripture,
- 14:54at least what I think is encouraging.
- 14:58Our first scripture comes from Psalm 23 three.
- 15:03You'll probably recognize that as the Psalm of David.
- 15:10It says he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right
- 15:17paths for his name's sake. Gosh, that's so beautiful.
- 15:25It is the Lord who refreshes our soul, and it is he who guides
- 15:30us. And where is he going to guide
- 15:32us? Along right paths.
- 15:35And that's so encouraging that we follow, oh God, we follow a
- 15:40God who wants to refresh our soul.
- 15:46We serve a God who guides us and wants to guide us, and he wants
- 15:52to guide us down right paths. We can't say that for everybody
- 15:57that we have in our life, right? There are some people that want
- 16:01to lead us down right paths, but there's some people that are
- 16:05focused on guiding us down wrong paths, maybe because they're
- 16:09going down the wrong path. Who knows?
- 16:10But we serve a God who loves us so much that He refreshes our
- 16:17soul and He guides us along right paths.
- 16:21Why? Because for His name's sake, as
- 16:24it says, that'd be because He is God, and that's what He does.
- 16:29Proverbs 4. And I may read the whole last
- 16:34part of this chapter because I was going to read just a couple
- 16:37verses, but I think it will all be encouraging.
- 16:42It says, my son, pay attention to what I say.
- 16:45Turn your ear to my words. Do not let them out of your
- 16:49sight. Keep them within your heart, for
- 16:52they are life to those who find them and health to 1's whole
- 16:57body. Above all else, guard your
- 17:01heart, for everything you do flows from it.
- 17:05Keep your mouth free of perversity.
- 17:08Keep corrupt talk far from your lips.
- 17:12Let your eyes look straight ahead.
- 17:15Fix your gaze directly before you.
- 17:19Give careful thought to the paths for your feet, and be
- 17:23steadfast in all your ways. Do not turn to the right or the
- 17:29left. Keep your foot from evil.
- 17:34Oh friends, isn't that good? We can focus on God's Word.
- 17:39We keep His words within our heart, and they will give life
- 17:44to us. Not just life, but health.
- 17:47Health to our body. And researchers found that to be
- 17:50true. And then He gives us guidance on
- 17:55how to keep our paths straight, how to keep our gaze fixed on
- 18:01Him. We're going to give careful
- 18:03thought to things. How do we stay on those right
- 18:07paths? We allow God to guide us, and
- 18:10He's given us direction on how to stay on those paths.
- 18:16What a loving God we serve, a God that is so loving.
- 18:24He pursues us because of His love for us.
- 18:29Not even it is not anything we have done.
- 18:33He pursues us because of His own love for us.
- 18:37Nor Isaiah 26 verse four. Trust in the Lord forever, for
- 18:44the Lord the Lord Himself is the rock eternal.
- 18:51Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord Himself is the rock
- 18:57eternal. I know we talked about last
- 19:01episode also looking at life through the eternal perspective.
- 19:07So we're not focused on the earthly things, but we're
- 19:12focused on the eternal things. And when we trust the Lord, we
- 19:19are focused on the eternal things because we know it
- 19:23doesn't matter what's going on here.
- 19:26We're focused on eternity and that's what matters.
- 19:29That's for eternity. And God himself is the rock
- 19:35eternal. Our final scripture comes from
- 19:41third John chapter one verse 2. Verse 2 says, dear friend, I
- 19:51pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well
- 19:56with you even as your soul is getting along well.
- 20:01This scripture is what I pray for you.
- 20:05I pray that you would enjoy good health, not just good physical
- 20:10health. But I hope you do mental.
- 20:14Good mental health, good spiritual health, good emotional
- 20:20health. I wish those things for you,
- 20:23because when we enjoy good health, things will go well for
- 20:29us in our heart and our soul and in our mind.
- 20:34Just like John said that all may go well with you even as your
- 20:39soul is getting along well, your soul is getting along well.
- 20:45You might feel emotionally distraught, your circumstances
- 20:50are crumbling around you, your physical health may be
- 20:53deteriorating, but your soul is doing well.
- 20:57If you've accepted Jesus Christ as your Savior and you've
- 21:00surrendered your life to Him, and you trust in Him, your soul
- 21:06is getting along well. It is well with my soul.
- 21:13How can we sing that? It's because our soul is well.
- 21:18And even if everything else is happening around us, that
- 21:21doesn't change what's happened to our soul.
- 21:25And so, friends, I do want you to enjoy good health, and I hope
- 21:31that I can be a little bit a part of that in your life.
- 21:35And I thank you if you've shown up just this episode or you've
- 21:40shown up other episodes. I appreciate so much you sharing
- 21:44your time with me and trusting me a little bit, even though you
- 21:48don't really know me. Thank you for trusting me, and I
- 21:53will promise to do my best to be a trustworthy servant of Jesus
- 22:00Christ. Now let's go live healthy and
- 22:04redeemed, reflecting Jesus Christ rightly in all that we
- 22:08do. Lord willing, I'll see you next
- 22:11time. Thank you for listening.
- 22:16The information provided is to be used as a resource.
- 22:19If you have a serious mental issue, we would encourage you to
- 22:22contact the therapist in your state.
- 22:39Hey, it's me again. Before we close out this season,
- 22:42I wanted to ask for your help. If you've enjoyed this season of
- 22:47the podcast, would you mind sharing that with someone else
- 22:50who might get some benefit from it?
- 22:52That would be such a blessing. It would also be a blessing if
- 22:56you could leave a podcast review wherever you listen to this
- 23:00podcast, or you could also send me some personal feedback
- 23:04through the texting option located in the show notes.
- 23:08I also have an e-mail address on my website, writtenbyhealey.com.
- 23:13Hey, thanks again for joining me and I look forward to meeting
- 23:18together again. In season 2, Proverbs 3, verse
- 23:295, it says trust in the Lord with all of your heart.
- 23:33Have you ever thought, well, that sounds nice, but how do you
- 23:36actually practice doing that? How do I walk that out?
- 23:40Hi, I'm Haley, the host of the Healthy and Redeemed podcast.
- 23:45And in season 2, we're going to talk about what it means to
- 23:48trust in the Lord with all of your heart.
- 23:51Trusting God brings real benefits to our daily life, like
- 23:55peace even if we're in the middle of chaos.
- 23:58It can bring us wisdom when we have a lots of unknowns in our
- 24:00life. It can help us manage our fear
- 24:04and anxiety. It can give us joy when our
- 24:07circumstances are discouraging. It can even give us strength to
- 24:11make it through the hard times. When we choose to trust God, we
- 24:16are not just holding on to our faith.
- 24:18We are deciding where we stand on our firm and eternal rock.
- 24:23Isaiah 26, four says trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord
- 24:28God is an everlasting rock. Each episode in season 2 will
- 24:32offer biblical encouragement and practical steps to help you grow
- 24:37in your trust. Because I believe trust is God's
- 24:40universal call to all believers, and it is viable in deepening
- 24:45our relationship with God. Trust will help us walk in a way
- 24:49that we know pleases Him. Wherever you are in your faith
- 24:54journey, I hope you will join me.
- 24:57New episodes begin next week, so please don't forget to
- 25:00subscribe. And if this series sounds like
- 25:03something a friend might need, please share it with them too.
- 25:07Let's walk this road together, learning to trust in the God who
- 25:12never fails. Lord willing, I will see you
- 25:15next week as we begin the exciting and sometimes scary
- 25:19journey of trust.
