- 0:29What's going on, everybody?
- 0:30Welcome to the original
- 0:34Sunday Night CrossFit Talk
- 0:36with Carolyn Prevost, Jamie Latimer,
- 0:37and myself.
- 0:39We're so pumped to be here.
- 0:40Thank you, everybody, for jumping in.
- 0:44Before we get into the
- 0:44nitty-gritty of things that
- 0:46are going on CrossFit-wise,
- 0:49Jamie and I talked about
- 0:50Reacher for a long time.
- 0:52I went back and watched the
- 0:53Tom Cruise movies this week.
- 0:55Oh, nice.
- 0:55I'd never seen them.
- 0:57Oh.
- 0:58I watched Reacher the show
- 0:59and never the movies.
- 1:01The movies are just as good as the show.
- 1:03Yeah.
- 1:06You kind of like looking
- 1:07back and now this new actor,
- 1:09it makes you like, man,
- 1:10you could have gotten
- 1:10someone a little better
- 1:12than Tom Cruise to play Reacher,
- 1:13but he did a good job.
- 1:16He did a fine job playing him.
- 1:18He just is not tall enough.
- 1:20Yes.
- 1:20To be that intimidating person.
- 1:22Yes.
- 1:23That was the only misstep with the movies.
- 1:29And then we dove into the
- 1:30new show on Apple TV called Bad Monkey.
- 1:32I have not heard of this.
- 1:36Okay.
- 1:40So good, but it is old school.
- 1:43They're only releasing one episode a week.
- 1:47Oh, so like we are at a,
- 1:50there's only three episodes out.
- 1:52There's 10 and we are like
- 1:54stuck until Wednesday till
- 1:57they release the next one.
- 1:59Yes, Wadsami, I've seen Ted Lasso.
- 2:02So the people behind Ted
- 2:04Lasso are part of Bad Monkey.
- 2:07Okay.
- 2:09It's also the people from Scrubs.
- 2:13They're behind this Bad Monkey,
- 2:14and it's a detective police
- 2:18kind of whodunit mystery
- 2:21with a lot of quirkiness,
- 2:23like Ted Lasso or Scrubs or whatever.
- 2:26It is so stinking good.
- 2:31Is it only on Apple TV?
- 2:33It is.
- 2:34It's exclusive to them.
- 2:36Well, I won't be watching it.
- 2:39So, yeah.
- 2:43So that's that.
- 2:44And then one update on me,
- 2:46and then we'll talk about
- 2:46how your guys' week has went.
- 2:49Last week,
- 2:49I said to everybody that I was
- 2:50off on my antihistamines
- 2:52because I was being tested
- 2:53for my allergies.
- 2:54That test went down,
- 2:56finally figured out what I'm allergic to,
- 2:59which is my dog.
- 3:02And I have rhino something
- 3:05or other that makes me like
- 3:07really allergic to grasses, molds,
- 3:11leaves.
- 3:13Basically,
- 3:13I need to go move and live on the moon.
- 3:18Does your dog shed a lot?
- 3:21So my allergy isn't just a hair.
- 3:24It is saliva and urine and
- 3:28all of that stuff.
- 3:29So I'm starting
- 3:31immunotherapy in two and a half weeks,
- 3:34and I'm doing the first
- 3:35three months in five hours.
- 3:39So I will sit in the office
- 3:41getting three months of
- 3:42shots every 20 minutes for
- 3:45five hours to get the first
- 3:47three months in to get some relief.
- 3:50And then I'll have to do
- 3:51like a shot a week for the
- 3:53rest of the year.
- 3:55And then like every other
- 3:56week and then eventually
- 3:58monthly and eventually
- 3:59won't need it anymore.
- 4:03That would be good.
- 4:04At least you got some answers.
- 4:06They changed my allergy medicine,
- 4:08which is helping.
- 4:09So I'm on Zizel.
- 4:11If you have never taken it,
- 4:14take it at night before you
- 4:15go to bed because you will be groggy,
- 4:18groggy, groggy.
- 4:21So exactly like Benadryl.
- 4:25Yeah.
- 4:26But, um,
- 4:28nothing better than to get a
- 4:29medicine that makes you
- 4:30groggy right before you're
- 4:31going to do a behind the
- 4:32scene of a major event.
- 4:35Um, so, um,
- 4:37I'm hoping there's some coffee
- 4:39tents down there and we,
- 4:42I just jam on some caffeine, but, um,
- 4:46yeah so but we have an
- 4:48answer finally after three
- 4:49years I finally felt like
- 4:51someone cared about what I
- 4:53was talking about and dug
- 4:55deep enough to find out
- 4:56what the issue was so yeah
- 5:02so your guys's week how's it been
- 5:06Busy, man.
- 5:07Oh, my gosh.
- 5:08You have something coming up, Jamie?
- 5:10Yeah, something coming up.
- 5:11Something coming up for sure.
- 5:12Lucas had another tennis tournament,
- 5:14so that was my Thursday.
- 5:16We went to Chelsea,
- 5:18which is like 50 minutes away.
- 5:23So that was another quad, four teams.
- 5:26We were there from like 9 to
- 5:27– I think we got out of
- 5:30there at like 4.30 to 5.
- 5:34That's a long day.
- 5:35I know.
- 5:37Those quads are a long day.
- 5:42Of course,
- 5:43Jamie has a thing coming this week.
- 5:45Yeah, small thing.
- 5:46Small thing.
- 5:48Yeah, for me, it was training on Monday.
- 5:50Lex and I went to San Francisco.
- 5:53We were just tourists for the day.
- 5:56So we went at Pier 39 or something,
- 6:00and there was a bunch of things going on.
- 6:02that we did there so that
- 6:04was really fun and yeah
- 6:06other than that just
- 6:07basically chipping away at
- 6:08training and slowly getting
- 6:10ready for norcal in a few
- 6:12weeks so trying to enjoy
- 6:16the last few days that I
- 6:17have left in california so
- 6:19I leave on wednesday all
- 6:21right and jamie you leave
- 6:25for birmingham tuesday morning
- 6:29Tuesday morning.
- 6:30And Julie and I are leaving
- 6:31Tuesday evening.
- 6:34Nice.
- 6:37Are you going to drive
- 6:38straight through Tuesday evening?
- 6:40No, no.
- 6:42No,
- 6:42I'm just what I want to do is just at
- 6:44least get south of
- 6:45Cincinnati because traffic
- 6:46there is really bad in the morning.
- 6:48So just get through the
- 6:49other side of Cincinnati,
- 6:51wherever we stop in Kentucky is fine.
- 6:54And then I'll just go the
- 6:55rest of the way Wednesday morning.
- 6:57I think we're going to stop in Kentucky to,
- 6:58um, find a box,
- 7:01some somewhere to stop and
- 7:03move and then get dinner
- 7:05and stay the night and then
- 7:06get up in the morning and finish.
- 7:08Well, speaking of Kentucky, kind of,
- 7:10I got news today that my
- 7:11gym is being sold.
- 7:13Yeah.
- 7:14Um, and they, my owners,
- 7:17Christie and Patrick
- 7:18O'Connell met in Louisville,
- 7:19Kentucky and moved up to
- 7:21Columbus where Christie's
- 7:23parents owned a gym.
- 7:24They bought into that gym
- 7:26and now the four of them
- 7:27are selling it off.
- 7:29Um, but they said that September 1st,
- 7:32they will no longer be owners,
- 7:33but they will be members of the gym.
- 7:35They will be attending
- 7:36classes just like they always have.
- 7:38They're going to continue to
- 7:40be a part of the community,
- 7:41but they're just in a
- 7:42different phase of their
- 7:42life and didn't want to own
- 7:45the gym anymore.
- 7:47So, um,
- 7:48but two families from the gym
- 7:50community are buying it.
- 7:53So it's kind of staying in the family.
- 7:56Um,
- 7:56and they've just recently put in a ton of,
- 8:00uh, work on it, repainted the building,
- 8:03fixed everything, um,
- 8:06invested in new equipment.
- 8:08Um, like it is brand new flooring.
- 8:11Um, it is a Mecca of fitness right now.
- 8:17Yeah,
- 8:17I'm assuming they're still going to
- 8:19continue their IBEX program.
- 8:21It looks like that's going
- 8:22really well for them,
- 8:23at least from the outside.
- 8:27But best of luck to them.
- 8:28Yeah.
- 8:30It's kind of sad,
- 8:31but they're still going to be there.
- 8:33Yeah.
- 8:34And, you know,
- 8:35they've taught all the
- 8:37people that are taking over.
- 8:39So, you know,
- 8:39I think it's going to have the same feel.
- 8:41We'll see.
- 8:42See how that goes.
- 8:46So we're going to start with
- 8:48the Masters stuff tonight,
- 8:50and then we'll get into
- 8:51some of the generic
- 8:53CrossFit stuff at the end of the show.
- 8:56But we wanted to start by
- 8:57the Masters CrossFit Games is next week.
- 9:01Well, this week, I guess,
- 9:02if you count Sunday,
- 9:03the start of the week.
- 9:05It begins on Thursday and
- 9:06goes through Sunday.
- 9:08If you have not seen on her Instagram,
- 9:10Holly Dugan,
- 9:11the best stats and info
- 9:13person in the business,
- 9:15has put together schedules two ways.
- 9:19She has like an overall
- 9:20schedule of like days and times.
- 9:22And then if you want to just
- 9:24look at an age group,
- 9:25she now has that out for men and women.
- 9:28You just go up.
- 9:29And if you're like Jamie and
- 9:31you're a woman, 40 to 44,
- 9:33you can go to that page,
- 9:34see all of your heat times, bam,
- 9:36on one page.
- 9:38Amazing job that she's done with that.
- 9:41It's super, super, super clear.
- 9:42And yeah, great job.
- 9:43Thank you.
- 9:44Thank you for that.
- 9:46So those are out there on
- 9:48both mine and her Instagram page,
- 9:51DataWad or Clydesdale Media,
- 9:53if you want to check those out.
- 9:55And give Holly a shout out.
- 9:57She's the best there is.
- 9:59And I know a lot of people
- 10:00have already put hearts all over it,
- 10:02saying that they love it.
- 10:03It was the easiest way for
- 10:04them to see their schedule.
- 10:06So, yeah, super stoked for that.
- 10:10She impresses me every time.
- 10:11She just, like, sends me stuff.
- 10:13Mm-hmm.
- 10:14She sent me that this morning and said,
- 10:15Hey, do you like this?
- 10:16And I'm like, Oh my gosh, I love this.
- 10:18Get it out, get it out.
- 10:22So yeah, that is the best.
- 10:24The other thing that
- 10:25happened just a couple of
- 10:26days ago was that we got
- 10:30the workouts for masters.
- 10:32And so what I'm going to do
- 10:33now is I'm going to pull
- 10:35those up from their
- 10:36Instagram post and then we
- 10:39will go through those.
- 10:44And have Carolyn kind of dissect them.
- 10:49If Jamie wants to jump in, fine.
- 10:50If she doesn't want to give away secrets,
- 10:53she doesn't have to because
- 10:53she's competing.
- 10:55And she may want to keep
- 10:56that stuff to herself.
- 10:58I just got to say,
- 10:59I'm kind of bummed that they... Like,
- 11:02from our original heat schedule,
- 11:05it was supposed to be 3-2-3-2.
- 11:08So they essentially moved
- 11:09the snatch ladder from
- 11:11Sunday morning to...
- 11:14friday um I don't know I'm
- 11:17kind of bummed I don't like
- 11:18I don't know what prompted
- 11:20that whether it's like they
- 11:21wanted didn't want to make
- 11:23the cuts before yeah eight
- 11:26events and we're like well
- 11:27let's just put that
- 11:28strength event in there
- 11:29earlier in the week um or
- 11:30floor wise or what it was
- 11:32but like it is a little
- 11:33weird like I mean I think
- 11:34we always thought we were
- 11:34getting done at like four
- 11:35or five and now we're
- 11:36getting done at like noon
- 11:37and it's seems unnecessary
- 11:40Yeah,
- 11:40I did hear them say on the TEF
- 11:43podcast that they are
- 11:45cutting with just one workout to go.
- 11:47And that will be Sunday.
- 11:49And they've moved things around.
- 11:52So there's only one workout on Sunday now.
- 11:56So here we go.
- 11:57I'm going to go ahead and share this up.
- 12:02And bam, there we go.
- 12:04So event one is,
- 12:06now event one is not
- 12:08necessarily event one for
- 12:09everyone because there are
- 12:10three floors and they are rotating.
- 12:13One floor has a professional rig on it.
- 12:17One floor has an A-frame rig on it.
- 12:20And one floor has no rig on it.
- 12:23and they will rotate through those floors.
- 12:25So different age groups may
- 12:27have a different event one,
- 12:29but you'll do all these
- 12:30workouts if you are 35 to 54.
- 12:3455 and up will do eight of these workouts.
- 12:41So here we go.
- 12:41Event one,
- 12:42we'll just do them in order as
- 12:44they were released,
- 12:45just so there's no confusion.
- 12:47Event one, four rounds for time,
- 12:49600 meter run, round one, five deadlifts,
- 12:53round two, 10 deadlifts, round three,
- 12:5615 deadlifts, round four, 20 deadlifts.
- 12:59Time cap, 18 minutes.
- 13:02Barbell weight is 255 for men,
- 13:04180 for women.
- 13:06And I know that actually
- 13:07decreases as you go up in the age groups.
- 13:14i think this will I think
- 13:15this will be a good workout
- 13:16obviously some posterior
- 13:17chain lifting from the
- 13:18floor uh the women are
- 13:20doing 70 I think that's a
- 13:21weight that a lot of people
- 13:23can go unbroken for a lot
- 13:26of it um I think the run
- 13:28you'll start seeing some
- 13:29separation but if you are
- 13:32just doing quick sets on
- 13:33the deadlift I think that
- 13:34you're still in the game um for sure
- 13:37And yeah,
- 13:38I don't like that initial run out.
- 13:40After you do those deadlifts, you'll,
- 13:41you'll definitely feel your,
- 13:43your hammies being a little bit, um,
- 13:46sore and you get that high
- 13:46heart rate coming off the barbell.
- 13:48But I think this is a good test.
- 13:50I like this one.
- 13:51Um, I like this one a lot.
- 13:54Well,
- 13:54Carolyn would like this because it
- 13:56has deadlifts.
- 13:57Yeah.
- 13:57Like for me,
- 13:58it would be unbroken the whole way.
- 13:59If I'm being honest,
- 14:00it would be pretty easy at
- 14:01that weight for me.
- 14:02I'm broken the whole way.
- 14:03Um, I, I think the way it's appropriate,
- 14:06it's.
- 14:07It's not like super light
- 14:09where it becomes just a running workout.
- 14:12But it's not to the point
- 14:12where then people are stuck
- 14:14on the barbell as well.
- 14:15So I think the good runners
- 14:17can break up the deadlifts
- 14:18in small sets and still be in it.
- 14:20Just like the strong people
- 14:21can make up time on the
- 14:22deadlifts by being unbroken.
- 14:25So I think it's a good
- 14:27somewhat balanced test.
- 14:29So let me ask you this, Carolyn.
- 14:32the first two sets of
- 14:33deadlifts are meaningless.
- 14:35Am I, am I right?
- 14:37So it is just three 600 meter runs.
- 14:40Bang, bang, bang.
- 14:42When you get to the 15 and 20,
- 14:44that's where like,
- 14:45it may actually have a
- 14:46little bit of interference.
- 14:47Do you think that's enough
- 14:50to catch the best runners?
- 14:52I think it's going to come
- 14:53down to a better runner.
- 14:54If I'm being honest,
- 14:55I think a better runner
- 14:55will do with decent
- 14:58strength should do better.
- 15:03Yeah,
- 15:03I think you can make up more time on
- 15:05the run.
- 15:05Denise Moore, would you use a belt?
- 15:09Personally, no.
- 15:11Or really loose where you
- 15:13can just quickly tie it.
- 15:17I wouldn't put it on the
- 15:18ground and then re-put it on.
- 15:20So I have a belt that's very
- 15:22easy to do it loose.
- 15:23And I use that quite often.
- 15:25So if I do a belt, I would do that.
- 15:27And then just as you're done,
- 15:28loosen it up so you can breathe and run.
- 15:33Okay.
- 15:34I like that.
- 15:34It's really straightforward.
- 15:35Yeah.
- 15:37I think, I think for the top competitors,
- 15:39it will be unbroken though.
- 15:43Dex Hopkins,
- 15:4435 to 39 year old competitor
- 15:45says should be three 15
- 15:47says a Clydesdale.
- 15:51Yeah.
- 15:55Yeah.
- 15:55He wants interference before
- 15:57that run is possible.
- 15:59yeah he's got plenty of
- 16:02things in his wheelhouse
- 16:03this weekend this one
- 16:05needed to be around this
- 16:06weight all right let's go
- 16:10to event two event two is
- 16:12four rounds for time four
- 16:14rope climbs to 15 feet six
- 16:16sandbag cleans 150 and 100
- 16:1740 foot handstand walk time
- 16:18cap 12 minutes
- 16:27A little bit more gymnastics here.
- 16:29Another pulling movement
- 16:30from the floor from the sandbag cleans.
- 16:33I would like to see more handstand walk.
- 16:35I don't think that that's
- 16:35much for four rounds.
- 16:37I would have liked to have
- 16:38seen maybe more distance
- 16:42there for the younger age groups.
- 16:45But I like the SWAT.
- 16:48Again,
- 16:48posterior chain could be still tired
- 16:52from the first one.
- 16:54The sandbag cleans,
- 16:55I'm assuming you can go touch and go,
- 16:56or they might have sections for that.
- 17:02Four rope climbs for the men
- 17:04is different than four rope
- 17:05climbs in a row for females.
- 17:07I always find when we have
- 17:08the same amount of rope climbs,
- 17:11it's just much faster for
- 17:12the men to get through that.
- 17:14But the 150 to the 100 on the sandbag,
- 17:17I think it's heavier for
- 17:18the men than what it feels
- 17:20normally for the women.
- 17:21So maybe that
- 17:23is a small difference there.
- 17:24Um, yeah, this one's not bad.
- 17:27I would have liked to have
- 17:28seen more handstand walk
- 17:28maybe in this one.
- 17:31So my question on this one
- 17:33is you have an upper body pulling,
- 17:36you have a posterior chain to the top,
- 17:39and then you're going inverted.
- 17:41That's three very different tests in one.
- 17:44Um, what about the transitions?
- 17:49I mean,
- 17:49I think the handstand walk for that
- 17:51distance for most people is irrelevant.
- 17:53And timing wise,
- 17:54I don't think that that
- 17:55will really matter.
- 17:56I think the women can
- 17:57separate themselves on those rope climbs.
- 18:01And if they're able to go
- 18:02kind of down and up right
- 18:04away versus taking, let's say,
- 18:06two reps or three reps
- 18:07where you're going to touch
- 18:08and go and then needing to
- 18:09chalk for one more.
- 18:10I think for the women,
- 18:12it's more on the sandbag cleans and rope.
- 18:17like somewhere there.
- 18:18I don't think the handstand
- 18:19walk is relevant for most of the field.
- 18:22Although they had, I don't,
- 18:23have you guys had handstand walks, Jamie,
- 18:25so far in your season?
- 18:26I don't think you guys had
- 18:27anything in 25 feet, right?
- 18:30We had no handstand walking.
- 18:32Yeah.
- 18:33So, I mean, it's not, it's not,
- 18:36it's not a ridiculous amount.
- 18:37I don't think that should be
- 18:38an issue for anyone.
- 18:40It's, it's really come down, I think,
- 18:41to the rope climbs and just
- 18:44maintaining high heart rate
- 18:45during the workouts.
- 18:48Yeah.
- 18:48If it's going to be a grip test.
- 18:52Yes, there's grip,
- 18:53there's grip involved of the rope climb.
- 18:55I mean,
- 18:56if you can use your legs as much as
- 18:57possible to save your grip,
- 18:59but you're gripping there.
- 19:00And then initially that grip
- 19:01from the sandbag gets, um,
- 19:04gets grippy for sure.
- 19:06I think people underestimate
- 19:07how much grip is fatigued
- 19:10in either handstand pushups
- 19:11or handstand walking.
- 19:13Um,
- 19:15I've tested this workout.
- 19:16It's nasty.
- 19:17I think people are going to
- 19:18be shocked in round four.
- 19:22Yeah.
- 19:23I think this is one that
- 19:23people can blow up, um,
- 19:25early by pushing the pace too much.
- 19:27And then after that are
- 19:28needing to slow down significantly.
- 19:31I mean,
- 19:32Denise says she tested this one and, um,
- 19:35she, they have a 75 pound bag.
- 19:36Um,
- 19:40it's,
- 19:41it's way heavier than you think by
- 19:43round three.
- 19:44Like, thank God it's not the 200, 150.
- 19:47I,
- 19:47I honestly don't even know what I would
- 19:49do if it was a heavier bag.
- 19:51Uh, Dex says,
- 19:52I feel like it's courage in transition.
- 19:56The, the sandbag is going to be gripper,
- 19:58grippier.
- 19:58Wow.
- 20:00Whatever.
- 20:00Oh my gosh.
- 20:02Gripper Magoo too with the combo.
- 20:05Yeah.
- 20:06I need an English to Dex dictionary.
- 20:08Yeah.
- 20:12Is it going to be an Alabama
- 20:14a shaped bag though?
- 20:17I don't think we're going to
- 20:18get that lucky to get
- 20:19anything personalized for the masters.
- 20:22Yeah.
- 20:24Yeah.
- 20:24I think all the floors are
- 20:2820 foot just like,
- 20:30because there's three
- 20:30floors in this stadium.
- 20:32I,
- 20:33I think all the floors are 20 feet,
- 20:36which limits, right,
- 20:37getting that 25 foot or
- 20:39what you're used to.
- 20:40I just think, unfortunately,
- 20:42they don't have the distance.
- 20:47All right.
- 20:48We're ready to move to the next one.
- 20:50Yep.
- 20:53Event three for time, 25 overhead squats,
- 20:5580 foot dumbbell walking lunge,
- 20:5825 overhead squats, time cap,
- 21:01three little minutes.
- 21:03Barbell is $75.55.
- 21:05Dumbbell $50.35.
- 21:05I think this is going to be a shit show,
- 21:11if I'm being honest.
- 21:12I think the weights are super light.
- 21:14This is...
- 21:15two movements that, um, can be, uh,
- 21:19no rep very easily in one
- 21:21lane and not in another
- 21:22lane with the opening up of
- 21:23the hips on the overhead
- 21:24squats with the opening up
- 21:26of the hips on the lunges.
- 21:27And like some people going through, um,
- 21:30you're going for speed on
- 21:31these movements that are very light.
- 21:33I think it's going to be, uh,
- 21:36tough on the judges for sure.
- 21:38It's going to be a fast wad.
- 21:39It's, it's unbroken.
- 21:41Um,
- 21:43It's how fast can you lunge?
- 21:45At least like lunging is
- 21:46helping the taller athletes
- 21:47and then the overhead
- 21:50squats is better for the
- 21:51smaller athletes.
- 21:52So for that,
- 21:53I like that if you're going to
- 21:54do some sort of range of motion,
- 21:56I like that it can even up
- 21:58maybe a little bit with size there.
- 22:02But I think this is going to
- 22:02be hard to judge.
- 22:05Yeah.
- 22:07I would absolutely hate to
- 22:08judge this event.
- 22:10I,
- 22:11you know how I feel about workouts that
- 22:13like basically come down to
- 22:14a judge's call.
- 22:15Um, it's just, it's unfortunate to see,
- 22:19you see somebody in one lane,
- 22:20just getting away with absolute murder.
- 22:23And then the next lane is
- 22:25getting no rep for probably
- 22:27a better movement.
- 22:28And you're like,
- 22:29what is going on out there?
- 22:30I mean, it's just, it,
- 22:31and it completely ruined someone's really,
- 22:36they're probably their entire weekend.
- 22:39What kind of dumbbell lunges is it?
- 22:41Is it farmer?
- 22:42Is it front?
- 22:44And, or one dump?
- 22:45I mean, assuming it's two dumbbells.
- 22:46Cause if it's two double overhead,
- 22:48that's completely different.
- 22:50There's no way it wouldn't be, but I don't,
- 22:52I don't think it.
- 22:54Yeah.
- 22:56Um,
- 22:56I think it's documents that are released.
- 23:00If it's just farmer,
- 23:02I'm betting it's same with front rack.
- 23:04It's it's fast,
- 23:05but the double overhead
- 23:06would make a big difference.
- 23:07But yeah, like I said,
- 23:08Like you said,
- 23:09I don't think the time would
- 23:10make it a double overhead.
- 23:12Cause that's, that's,
- 23:14that would be really hard for,
- 23:14I think most of the masters
- 23:15mobility wise.
- 23:18Yeah.
- 23:18You would see some struggle in the 50.
- 23:20Like they wouldn't finish
- 23:21this workout if that's what it was.
- 23:23Not for you.
- 23:24I bet it's just a farmer.
- 23:25You guys have a lot of
- 23:28dumbbells this weekend too.
- 23:30I noticed.
- 23:31Yeah.
- 23:31That's common.
- 23:33What's the difference
- 23:33between a dumbbell lunge
- 23:34and a dumbbell walking lunge?
- 23:36Well, dumbbell lunge, you can do in place.
- 23:38A dumbbell walking lunge,
- 23:40you must cover a distance.
- 23:42And that's why this is 80
- 23:45feet and not so many reps.
- 23:50If it's just a lunge, it's for reps,
- 23:53not distance.
- 23:57Um, so yeah, so there's that one.
- 23:59And I, I completely agree.
- 24:01Like judging is going to be
- 24:02just nuts on this and the older.
- 24:07They're not doing this.
- 24:09No, because,
- 24:10because their overhead squat
- 24:12mobility just is in,
- 24:13in volume and for the,
- 24:16for the overall weekend.
- 24:19So, um,
- 24:22Kenneth says tomato, tomato.
- 24:24Well,
- 24:24there is a little bit difference
- 24:25because the opening of the
- 24:26hips is different.
- 24:28When you're walking the lunge,
- 24:30there's a couple more
- 24:31points that you have to hit
- 24:33in the standard.
- 24:35So it's a little bit more complicated.
- 24:39Although I like moving
- 24:40rather than stationary ones anyway.
- 24:43I think those are a little
- 24:44bit easier to judge.
- 24:48So let's go event four for time.
- 24:50This is the snatch speed ladder.
- 24:52It is simply four at 135.95,
- 24:54three at 165.115, two at 195.135,
- 25:00and one at 225.155.
- 25:00This immediately starts
- 25:04dropping in weight even at
- 25:05the 40 to 44-year-old division.
- 25:08Time cap is two minutes.
- 25:11So you got to move.
- 25:14I think for a lot of people,
- 25:17the top athletes,
- 25:18I think it's going to be power snatches.
- 25:21And it's going to be very fast.
- 25:24There's going to be touch and go for some,
- 25:26like the top, the top,
- 25:26top athletes are going
- 25:27touch and go on some of these weights.
- 25:32It's, I w I would have thought it,
- 25:33it would have been a little
- 25:35tiny bit heavier,
- 25:36but not with a two minute cap.
- 25:37If they want to go two minute cap, it's,
- 25:39I guess it's fine.
- 25:43One thing that they did add
- 25:44when they talked to TEF is
- 25:45that there will be only two
- 25:47bars and you'll have to
- 25:49change weights twice.
- 25:51I hate that.
- 25:52Why?
- 25:53I hate that changing weights
- 25:55is a part of fitness.
- 25:57People will be like,
- 25:59that shouldn't be part of fitness.
- 26:01How fast I can change whether the
- 26:03thingy gets stuck on the barbell.
- 26:05I don't think that should be
- 26:06part of fitness.
- 26:07I've always thought that.
- 26:10Some people like it in competitions.
- 26:11I hate it.
- 26:15Is it the first and the
- 26:18third barbell that have weight?
- 26:21Probably just adding fives
- 26:23or whatever it is.
- 26:28It almost doesn't make sense
- 26:30because mine is...
- 26:36mine is 95 95 115 125 145
- 26:36145 like because you're
- 26:42gonna have 25s and fives
- 26:44out there for the 95 bar so
- 26:46I guess and then
- 26:59then we're just throwing so
- 27:01there's gonna be tens that
- 27:02have to like be put on and
- 27:03pulled off and put on I
- 27:05don't know this doesn't I
- 27:06don't think you have to
- 27:07pull anything off I think
- 27:08it's just you're gonna have
- 27:09to add the new weight as
- 27:10you move up like from one
- 27:14125 to 145 you're gonna
- 27:16have to put a 10 on each
- 27:17side huh I just don't love
- 27:21it I just think
- 27:23I don't know.
- 27:24I don't like the switching
- 27:26of the weights being part
- 27:27of such a fast test like this.
- 27:30Some of the clips are just
- 27:31stickier than others.
- 27:33That shouldn't be a factor
- 27:34whether someone wins the heat or not.
- 27:38It should not be a factor.
- 27:39That's not fitness.
- 27:41This is probably where we
- 27:43may dive off a minute,
- 27:44but let's try not to.
- 27:47They said that the reason
- 27:48for it was for safety.
- 27:50Now that everything has happened...
- 27:53this is going to be an easy
- 27:55out for people when they
- 27:56don't want to do it a certain way.
- 27:58They can say it's for safety reasons.
- 28:01Why is it safer to stop and
- 28:03load a bar before you go to the next one?
- 28:06That, that makes no sense.
- 28:07Less bars on the floor.
- 28:08No, I understand the safety thing.
- 28:10You don't, if you don't have the space,
- 28:12you don't want four bars on, on there.
- 28:14And then people are moving everywhere.
- 28:16It's like, I get the space thing.
- 28:18I guess I get, I get that.
- 28:19I'm just saying,
- 28:20I personally don't think
- 28:21that that should,
- 28:22play factor and if and if
- 28:23you don't have the space
- 28:24then I think you could do
- 28:25another type of lift I mean
- 28:26we're already pulling from
- 28:27the floor this is now the
- 28:28third time right um in four
- 28:30workouts I mean the volume
- 28:31is pretty low here compared
- 28:33to um the rest but yeah you
- 28:37just don't do this workout
- 28:38if if safety you don't do a
- 28:40snatch ladder if safety is
- 28:41a concern that makes no sense I just like
- 28:52I think it's different if
- 28:53it's like a long ladder and
- 28:54it's not necessarily like
- 28:56two minutes long and you
- 28:57can go through and you can
- 28:58change your weights and
- 28:59you're kind of using that as recovery.
- 29:01But in something like this,
- 29:03it's just so fast.
- 29:04And I just think that people having, um,
- 29:07those type of clips that
- 29:08they're going to be using
- 29:09in training and being able
- 29:10to use those faster,
- 29:11like in and out makes a difference.
- 29:13What type of clips you train with.
- 29:14If you're used to those ones
- 29:15that they'll be using, um,
- 29:19Yeah.
- 29:20But I mean, I think it's fast.
- 29:21It's.
- 29:23If you're going to,
- 29:24if you want to do a two
- 29:25minute cap to work out,
- 29:26either you make it so it it's,
- 29:28it is for the two minute
- 29:29cap or you make it.
- 29:30So it's a three minute cap
- 29:32and you change weights.
- 29:33I think that the combination
- 29:35of the two makes no sense.
- 29:38Personally.
- 29:41Yeah.
- 29:41Yeah.
- 29:44I like this workout.
- 29:45I just don't like the
- 29:47bastardized version of it.
- 29:52If you want a straight speed
- 29:53ladder with a two-minute cap,
- 29:55let them go.
- 30:00Is it an elimination style
- 30:02or is it just one time through?
- 30:03One time through.
- 30:06You mess up.
- 30:09With 40 people, that's crazy.
- 30:10There's going to be some
- 30:12close times on this yeah so
- 30:16you gotta you definitely
- 30:17have to sprint to that
- 30:18finish line if there is one
- 30:24oh my gosh if there's no
- 30:25finish line or is it or is
- 30:26it judges um like do they
- 30:32have the the ankle clips
- 30:34like those will be factors
- 30:36if we're if we will not have ankle
- 30:39time bracelets we will not
- 30:40so like going off the
- 30:42judges reaction like is not
- 30:44accurate I know especially
- 30:46when people are going to be
- 30:46coming to the finish line
- 30:47very close I hope they can
- 30:49find some sort of ankle
- 30:50clip because 40 athletes
- 30:52doing a sub two minute and
- 30:53a sub three minute workout
- 30:56is you want accuracy and I
- 30:59don't think it's going to
- 30:59be accurate how fast the
- 31:01judge can click their button
- 31:05Oh, my God.
- 31:05If there's no finish line,
- 31:08I may protest right in the
- 31:09middle of the event.
- 31:11If spectators can't see who wins,
- 31:14there's no point in having a sport.
- 31:18Was it Legends last year or
- 31:19the Masters Collective when
- 31:20they didn't have the finish line?
- 31:22Both.
- 31:23Both.
- 31:23Oh, both.
- 31:24Both.
- 31:27Yep.
- 31:27Both stopped on the floor.
- 31:28It was rough.
- 31:31Yeah.
- 31:31If you can't see who finishes first,
- 31:34there's no point in watching.
- 31:36It was, it's just dumb.
- 31:38Not even for you.
- 31:39The, I mean, yes, I agree.
- 31:40Spectator wise,
- 31:41but it was a struggle for us as athletes.
- 31:45Like, I mean, Scott,
- 31:46you were standing there
- 31:47when we weren't sure if
- 31:47Veronica was actually done.
- 31:49She wasn't sure if she was done.
- 31:50I know.
- 31:51Cause she didn't have a mat
- 31:52to run to and she didn't
- 31:53know if her judge was confused.
- 31:54Like it was, it was very confusing.
- 32:00But if you're streaming this,
- 32:03you're trying to make
- 32:04people get eyes on this
- 32:05sport for the first time ever.
- 32:08So you have a really good stream.
- 32:10You have a nice facility
- 32:11with a lot of places for people to watch.
- 32:13If you make it impossible
- 32:14for them to see who wins,
- 32:16you might as well just
- 32:17chuck it all out the window.
- 32:21I'm,
- 32:22I'm guessing all of the floors will
- 32:24have a start mat and a finish mat.
- 32:29They're pretty good about that,
- 32:30about having the floor set.
- 32:32Well,
- 32:32having them and using them are two
- 32:34different things.
- 32:35Right.
- 32:36Whether we use them will be the question.
- 32:41Sad to say,
- 32:41I can see them saying they
- 32:43don't want to have anybody
- 32:45jump that last bar and get
- 32:46to the finish mat for safety purposes.
- 32:48So they're just going to let
- 32:49it finish at the... If you play sport,
- 32:53there's an assumption of risk.
- 32:56There just is.
- 32:56I mean...
- 32:58just is yeah there should be
- 33:01a finish line you should
- 33:02have to drop it forward a
- 33:04lot of masters that don't
- 33:05have the experience of an
- 33:06in-person comp might put it
- 33:08behind them and then get no
- 33:10rep like those might be
- 33:10some mistakes that you'll
- 33:11see um if there's a finish
- 33:13line with those rules just
- 33:16knowing that um that's you
- 33:19know details that as an
- 33:20athlete like I know because
- 33:21I have experience but you
- 33:22don't know the experience of certain um
- 33:25Athletes will be competing that weekend.
- 33:26But yeah,
- 33:27I hope there's a finish line
- 33:29visually and everything.
- 33:33All right, let's move on to event five.
- 33:36Four times, 75 wall balls,
- 33:3840 shoulder to overhead,
- 33:3930 dumbbell stepovers, 40 dumbbell snatch,
- 33:4375 wall balls.
- 33:47So you have Karen on the outside,
- 33:50like with a 150.
- 33:50I don't know why there's two different...
- 33:53dumbbell movements here um I
- 33:56would have wanted the same
- 33:57movement both shoulders
- 33:58overhead probably because
- 33:59you already have pulling
- 34:01from the floor with the
- 34:03deadlift the snatch well
- 34:05what is the barbell the
- 34:06shouldered overhead is
- 34:07barbell then I would have
- 34:10kept the barbell you don't
- 34:11need it you don't need
- 34:11another dumbbell or you
- 34:14keep or you do a double
- 34:15dumbbell if you wanted
- 34:16shoulder to overhead but um
- 34:19and have a little bit more
- 34:20interference on the
- 34:22upper body press.
- 34:23You could have even put
- 34:24handstand push-ups here
- 34:26just because you haven't
- 34:27had as much gymnastics.
- 34:28Yeah, I don't know about... I mean,
- 34:32I think it looks cleaner if
- 34:33it's like a true pyramid,
- 34:35like one movement, second movement, third,
- 34:38and then go back that second movement.
- 34:41I saw Ariel post on her
- 34:44story that she was like 11
- 34:46something on this one.
- 34:49What's the time cap?
- 34:49I can't see it.
- 34:5115 minutes.
- 34:5215 minutes.
- 34:52Yeah.
- 34:53Sorry.
- 34:53I had to zoom in.
- 34:58Yeah.
- 34:59I mean,
- 35:00what's the target height for the
- 35:02wall ball?
- 35:03Nothing said on that.
- 35:0310.9.
- 35:0310.9.
- 35:04Yep.
- 35:10So I think even though it's
- 35:16not a true pyramid,
- 35:17do you think it's a good workout?
- 35:18I think it's fine.
- 35:20I mean, it's pure CrossFit.
- 35:21Like it's trying to think
- 35:24like what's the shoulder to
- 35:28overhead weight on 1580.
- 35:33single dumbbell step over or double?
- 35:36I'm pretty sure that it's a
- 35:37single dumbbell because
- 35:38there's only the one
- 35:39dumbbell on the floor for
- 35:40the snatch in the box.
- 35:43And I'm,
- 35:44I'm assuming it's held any way you want.
- 35:46A lot of people in the chat
- 35:50are saying everybody's fine.
- 35:53I don't,
- 35:53I don't think you need to go on
- 35:54broken for sure on the wall balls.
- 35:55I think quick sets something
- 36:00that's just like repeatable
- 36:01that you're not like
- 36:01hunched over at the ball.
- 36:03Same thing for the shoulder to overhead,
- 36:09the dumbbell stepovers.
- 36:11If you're allowed to just
- 36:12hold it behind your head or something,
- 36:13I think you just kind of hold on to that.
- 36:15Try to relax your grip a little bit.
- 36:17You can just shake one arm out,
- 36:19something like that.
- 36:21Dumbbell snatch at that weight,
- 36:22I would assume,
- 36:24is you just kind of hold on
- 36:25unbroken and then whatever
- 36:27you have left on that 75 wall ball.
- 36:32All right, let's go to event six.
- 36:35Round one.
- 36:36This one just is god-awful.
- 36:40Round one, four minutes of work,
- 36:42one minute of rest.
- 36:44Round two, three minutes of work,
- 36:45one minute of rest.
- 36:46Round three, two minutes of work.
- 36:49It's basically max echo bite calories,
- 36:53trying to get to 105 and 80,
- 36:54but there's a buy-in every
- 36:55round of 75 double-unders
- 36:56and 20 chest-to-bars.
- 37:04Dex,
- 37:04have you done this one or any part of it?
- 37:10He said he loves it.
- 37:12That makes me think he has.
- 37:13He's one of those guys that
- 37:15can hammer a bike.
- 37:16I know,
- 37:16but it makes me think he hasn't done it.
- 37:19He just loves the idea of, yeah,
- 37:22hammer the bike.
- 37:24I mean,
- 37:24this is just how bad do you want to
- 37:27hurt on the echo bike?
- 37:31Yeah, I mean,
- 37:32both of the movements up front,
- 37:35are I think at this level,
- 37:37mostly unbroken for, for people.
- 37:39Um,
- 37:40and then it's your power output on the
- 37:42bike.
- 37:43Like some people can just have like,
- 37:45especially the men,
- 37:46like their ability to
- 37:47sprint on an echo bike is
- 37:49not even comparable to, to the females.
- 37:51If they have two and a half minutes,
- 37:52let's say on the, on the bike,
- 37:54on the first round, it's going to be,
- 37:58it's a tough one to finish for sure.
- 38:00I haven't tried it, but it looks nasty.
- 38:06And I like the format of it that, you know,
- 38:08the time decreases on the bike, um,
- 38:12the further along you move.
- 38:14I hate that.
- 38:15I wish it was, I wish it was a three,
- 38:17three, four personally.
- 38:20Like then it's like, can you,
- 38:23can you even get through that?
- 38:25Like,
- 38:26do you need all four minutes at the end?
- 38:27Can you keep pushing at the
- 38:29end of all this?
- 38:33I think it still comes down
- 38:34to just power output.
- 38:36I think you're going to have
- 38:37very few women finish this.
- 38:43Are the cows different for your division?
- 38:46No.
- 38:46Not through 40 to 44 for sure.
- 38:55yeah if it changes I think
- 38:57it was like 60 at like 55
- 38:59plus or something like that
- 39:00denise test said you tested
- 39:02it denise what's your kales
- 39:03to get through I i keep I
- 39:07will be shocked I mean
- 39:09there might be a dude dex
- 39:10maybe can get through in in
- 39:12two rounds I don't know oh
- 39:14I bet you dex gets it with
- 39:15two rounds oh he's just
- 39:18that good on a bike like I'm
- 39:21oh god yeah I mean if you're
- 39:24tall or you weigh more it's
- 39:25going to definitely help
- 39:26here um I mean I i do like
- 39:30that you have to earn your
- 39:32echo bike power output by
- 39:33at least having some sort
- 39:35of gymnastics prior and
- 39:37elevated heart rate that
- 39:39you can't just be tall and
- 39:42or bigger but um let me put
- 39:45it this way if dex doesn't
- 39:46finish it in two rounds he
- 39:47ain't getting back to the
- 39:48bike on round three
- 39:50That's the other thing.
- 39:52Yeah.
- 39:56I mean, I watched you do this,
- 39:57and I don't want to disclose anything.
- 39:59Like,
- 40:00this is way harder than people think
- 40:01it is.
- 40:04I think I need to take an
- 40:06airline puke bag out on the
- 40:07floor with me if I'm being 100% honest.
- 40:10I don't know who thinks this
- 40:11workout is easy.
- 40:12This workout looks awful.
- 40:14Dex.
- 40:18Dex, am I lying?
- 40:19If you don't finish it in two,
- 40:20you're not making it back for three.
- 40:24I've seen you on the floor
- 40:25way too many times, bub.
- 40:30I was shocked.
- 40:31Denise said right here,
- 40:34the second round of double unders,
- 40:35I tripped a million times.
- 40:36I was shocked at how heavy
- 40:39my legs felt when I went to jump rope.
- 40:46And your arms are going to be feeling it.
- 40:48That blood is just trying to
- 40:49circulate and those chest
- 40:51of arms are going to become
- 40:52hard as the blood is just
- 40:55looking to go somewhere
- 40:56because you're just feeling it.
- 40:58It's almost like that one
- 40:59minute of rest is rude
- 41:00because you all of a sudden feel worse.
- 41:08Yeah, this is a nasty workout.
- 41:10Lynn says, oh no,
- 41:13this is the hardest workout ever.
- 41:16Yeah.
- 41:17I like me a bike though.
- 41:18I, this looks awful.
- 41:24Yep.
- 41:24Dex said the flow on chest
- 41:25of bar got super weird.
- 41:27I felt that I actually was like,
- 41:30I just need to come down.
- 41:30I like, I am doing some funky Kip here.
- 41:33That doesn't even,
- 41:34I don't even know what I'm
- 41:35doing right now.
- 41:35All right.
- 41:38Let's move on off of this
- 41:39thing and go to event seven,
- 41:42which is the standard.
- 41:46I love this one.
- 41:47I don't think 12 minute time
- 41:48cap is good for the woman at this level.
- 41:53Like you had the games top
- 41:5610 athletes for females
- 41:57doing it in around 11
- 41:58minutes a few years ago.
- 41:59I think the 12 minute time
- 42:03cap for the females like 40 to 44,
- 42:06you have 12 minutes as well, right?
- 42:12Yeah,
- 42:13I think although I think for a few
- 42:15divisions, it's a 12 minute time cap.
- 42:16I I don't see too many
- 42:21people women especially
- 42:22finishing that the top from
- 42:26the top from the 35 to 39
- 42:27can do it but I think very
- 42:29few women will finish it in
- 42:31the in the 12 minute time cap.
- 42:33This one according to our
- 42:35original heat sheet was
- 42:38supposed to be through 13 minutes.
- 42:41Yeah.
- 42:41I don't know why they think
- 42:4212 minutes is appropriate for,
- 42:46I just think that a lot of
- 42:47people won't get to that point.
- 42:48It's a ring muscle workout.
- 42:50These are singles on the barbell,
- 42:52just moving through it,
- 42:53giving yourself time and
- 42:54then figuring out what sets
- 42:57you're able to do on the ring muscle ups.
- 42:59Hopefully no, no,
- 43:01no reps because those get
- 43:02really costly and it's just
- 43:03kind of executing clean, clean sets.
- 43:06And then,
- 43:07on the back end if you have
- 43:09it in you to do a couple
- 43:10touch and go towards the
- 43:11very end of the snatches
- 43:13but probably once you start
- 43:14doing singles your body is
- 43:15just in a single rhythm
- 43:17that you just keep going in
- 43:19singles um yeah this this
- 43:21will be a ring muscle up
- 43:22and how much rest you want
- 43:24to take in between so I
- 43:26have an important question
- 43:27with since we're here and
- 43:29the last couple we've said
- 43:30you know this is a
- 43:31completely different
- 43:31workout from men to women
- 43:34and that the caps are too
- 43:35aggressive for one or the other,
- 43:36or for the women as opposed to the men.
- 43:40On TEF,
- 43:42Bob and Joe said that the people
- 43:44who tested these workouts
- 43:45were themselves and Jared Enderton.
- 43:49If you have no women testing
- 43:52these workouts,
- 43:54are you getting a true
- 43:56picture as to what it is for women?
- 44:03If that's the truth and
- 44:04you've already tested it,
- 44:06is that a mistake?
- 44:09I think some of the women in
- 44:1035 to 39 will be able to finish it,
- 44:13but I think as you keep going along,
- 44:16I just don't think in a field of 40,
- 44:18you want still close to half to finish,
- 44:21and you're not going to get that.
- 44:24You're just not.
- 44:24It's not on the female side anyways.
- 44:27But even you say 35 to 39...
- 44:31the top 10 women at the
- 44:32games struggled to get 11.
- 44:35Now you're talking 40, 35 to 39 year olds.
- 44:38I get that's 2019 and we
- 44:40we've definitely come a long way.
- 44:43But I still think that this is a,
- 44:46I haven't done this one in years,
- 44:47but yeah, I think, I think at this level,
- 44:54it's not, it's too fast a time cap.
- 44:57That's my opinion, but I love the workout.
- 44:59I personally like this workout.
- 45:01I like brain muscle.
- 45:02I would have been happier to
- 45:03even to see the 13 minutes for the women,
- 45:05like at least give some separate, like,
- 45:08hopefully you get to the
- 45:09snatch and can get some and like,
- 45:11and who wants to like,
- 45:12even try to hold onto it
- 45:13for a couple of reps and
- 45:14try to win there.
- 45:15Right.
- 45:15Like give a fighting chance
- 45:17to a few people to make some separation,
- 45:19not just one morning muscle
- 45:21up separation.
- 45:22So 45 to 54 do 25 instead of 30.
- 45:23Oh,
- 45:30Just women or men too?
- 45:31I think it's both.
- 45:34Well, that's the thing.
- 45:37Your 50-year-old women are
- 45:38going to be stuck on ring muscle-ups.
- 45:44It's going to be a ring muscle-up workout.
- 45:47That's the separator.
- 45:49Who can do them?
- 45:51Who has that volume in them?
- 45:54You guys had that ascending
- 45:56rep scheme yesterday.
- 45:58in semis this one's a big
- 46:02chunk on the spot which is
- 46:06different you know for
- 46:08muscle stamina but yeah I
- 46:12mean I just hope for the
- 46:14viewership that you see
- 46:15people finish on the
- 46:17women's side there will be
- 46:19a there will definitely be
- 46:21a couple people in each I
- 46:22think about like Andrea
- 46:23Nisler and stuff like
- 46:25Alethea Boone's gonna
- 46:26finish in our age group for sure
- 46:30Is she coming?
- 46:32You know what?
- 46:35I guess I didn't look at, like,
- 46:36do we even have a leaderboard showing?
- 46:38Yep.
- 46:40I don't know.
- 46:40I don't think I saw her on the board.
- 46:42Really?
- 46:43That's why I asked.
- 46:44I'll double check.
- 46:46I have it up here, so I'll check again.
- 46:49So next event is event eight,
- 46:53eight rounds for time,
- 46:54eight bar facing burpees,
- 46:55eight toes to bar, one clean at 255, 180.
- 46:59Time cap, eight minutes.
- 47:03Not a lot of room for separation here.
- 47:05I mean,
- 47:07everyone can do eight toes to bars.
- 47:09Everyone can do eight bar facing burpees.
- 47:12How fast you're comfortable
- 47:13doing a clean at 180.
- 47:15If you can power it, you know, every time,
- 47:17nice and sweet, you're good.
- 47:19It's just going to come down
- 47:20to transitions,
- 47:21jogging between the
- 47:22movements and pushing the pace.
- 47:24If you don't have that one
- 47:2580 in you that you're just
- 47:27confidently jogging to the bar,
- 47:29just getting it.
- 47:30I think you'll struggle on this one.
- 47:33It's basically what it's eight,
- 47:35eight rounds, eight minute time.
- 47:36Yeah.
- 47:36It's an EMOM quicker than an EMOM.
- 47:40This is a fast time cap.
- 47:41Like I think they have a few
- 47:42fast time caps here and
- 47:43it's probably because of
- 47:44the amount of divisions
- 47:45they got to get through, but yeah,
- 47:50But I don't want to see
- 47:50every women's division not
- 47:52finished and all the men finished.
- 47:54That's a bad look to me.
- 47:57I'm not saying that women
- 47:58have a disadvantage at this one.
- 48:00I don't think that this one
- 48:01is one that with the women,
- 48:02I just think it's a fast time cap.
- 48:04If you start having to move
- 48:06your barbell up and the
- 48:07transitions get longer,
- 48:09if they've only tested it
- 48:10on the spot in person,
- 48:11that's different than the
- 48:13amount like that playing
- 48:14field that they're going to
- 48:15be doing it on.
- 48:16which is why at the games
- 48:17they have that demo team
- 48:19testing workouts on the
- 48:20field and progressing
- 48:21forward because they're like, oh,
- 48:23we didn't take this into consideration.
- 48:25We've got to bump up the
- 48:25time cap by a minute or
- 48:27something like that.
- 48:29But yeah,
- 48:30this is a quick one between all
- 48:34the movements.
- 48:37Dex says women have it easier on this one.
- 48:40I disagree, but...
- 48:43Aletheia Boone is not on the roster.
- 48:47Well, that's sort of a bummer.
- 48:50Event nine,
- 48:51five minutes to establish a one
- 48:52rep max front squat.
- 48:56I mean, this is just,
- 48:58is it from the floor or from the rack?
- 49:00I'm sure it's from the rack.
- 49:01From the rack, okay.
- 49:03I mean, this is raw strength here.
- 49:08Lifting, I mean, in the previous workout,
- 49:10I think,
- 49:11the lift is the separator.
- 49:13Like if you could just go to it, I mean,
- 49:16yeah, it's a, it's a strength one.
- 49:17I mean,
- 49:18there's not really anything to it here.
- 49:20Stronger people will win.
- 49:23Yep.
- 49:24Boring.
- 49:26It is boring.
- 49:28I don't think this was needed here.
- 49:30I don't, I,
- 49:31with all the power have like
- 49:35power output feel of a lot
- 49:37of these workouts.
- 49:37I do not think they needed
- 49:38this strength test.
- 49:41You have the strength test
- 49:41with your snatch ladder.
- 49:42I think they could have done
- 49:45some sort of gymnastics
- 49:47with possibly another run here.
- 49:50Like I think out of 10 events,
- 49:52one event with running is, I mean,
- 49:54they don't have any events
- 49:55that's long and you have
- 49:56another short workout.
- 50:00Yeah.
- 50:00I'd like to see something in
- 50:01that 15 to 20 minute range.
- 50:05Yeah.
- 50:07Five minutes.
- 50:08There we go.
- 50:10All right, and then finally we end up with,
- 50:12they will cut to half of
- 50:14the participants at this point,
- 50:18and then on Sunday,
- 50:19the only event that is going is this one,
- 50:21event 10, four-time, 8-12-16,
- 50:24single-arm dumbbell
- 50:25thrusters and bar muscle-ups,
- 50:27time cap eight minutes,
- 50:28the dumbbell weight is 70-50.
- 50:33Smaller bodies.
- 50:34I think the thruster with those reps is...
- 50:39like no, no issue.
- 50:42It's going to come down to
- 50:43the bar muscle ups and
- 50:46range of motion and transitions, I guess.
- 50:50Another fast,
- 50:50it's another eight minute workout,
- 50:53like another fast one.
- 50:55You have the ring muscle ups,
- 50:56the bar muscle ups.
- 50:58I don't know.
- 51:00It is a little weird.
- 51:01I love bar muscle ups, but yeah,
- 51:05I don't know.
- 51:0636 of these after doing
- 51:0860 chest to bar that you're
- 51:10trying to sprint.
- 51:11Like the fatigue from that is going to,
- 51:13is going to add up.
- 51:15And then the next day you're
- 51:16starting with 30 ring muscle ups.
- 51:18And then the next day you're
- 51:19starting with like,
- 51:20it is back to back to back pulling.
- 51:24What about all the squatting?
- 51:25Max squat, overhead squat.
- 51:29I don't think the wall ball
- 51:31thruster shoulder to overhead.
- 51:35I don't know.
- 51:35I don't feel like there's dead squatting.
- 51:39I mean, the wall balls,
- 51:41that's a high volume.
- 51:43I feel it more so in my arms
- 51:45when I do wall balls.
- 51:47Some of the squatting
- 51:49numbers are still
- 51:50relatively low or like
- 51:53light for the overhead squat.
- 51:56But like Dex said, that there's no...
- 52:01long aerobic test.
- 52:02Like that first one,
- 52:04that's what 16 minute time cap.
- 52:06Is that what it was?
- 52:0616 or 18 minutes, 18 minute time cap.
- 52:09Um,
- 52:10but I'm betting that runners aren't
- 52:11going to get anywhere near 18 minutes.
- 52:15Like I would like to see a longer one.
- 52:18That's not based off of weightlifting.
- 52:22Um, and some sort of,
- 52:28I see.
- 52:29I would like to see probably
- 52:30another run in there or you
- 52:32could have put a row.
- 52:34They don't have a row, right?
- 52:35There's no rower.
- 52:35There's the one power output
- 52:37echo bike for like four power.
- 52:41You could do a rower or
- 52:42another run in one of them,
- 52:45but like a longer time domain.
- 52:48I think for the best athletes,
- 52:50they're not going to see
- 52:51the floor for more than 12
- 52:52minutes this whole weekend.
- 52:54I know there's an 18 minute
- 52:55one and there's a 15 minute one,
- 52:56but I don't think there's,
- 52:57I think the best athletes
- 52:58are going to be off the
- 52:59floor in 12 minutes or less
- 53:00on everything.
- 53:02Yeah.
- 53:02There's short workouts like that.
- 53:03I don't think that front squat was needed.
- 53:11Dex asks,
- 53:11you guys think anything changed
- 53:12after Fort Worth?
- 53:14I am positive something
- 53:15changed after Fort Worth,
- 53:16but I'm betting we'll never
- 53:17know what it is.
- 53:18Yeah.
- 53:18People are saying there
- 53:20wasn't supposed to be swimming,
- 53:21but I was under the
- 53:22impression we were supposed
- 53:23to swim in a pool or something.
- 53:25Because I think they like
- 53:26communicated with the teams
- 53:28that they would not be swimming.
- 53:30And I feel like that was
- 53:31stated because we were swimming.
- 53:33I feel like there was
- 53:34another outdoor test.
- 53:36Yes.
- 53:36And they brought it inside.
- 53:38But I don't know what that
- 53:39was to what it is.
- 53:41Because on that podcast with TEF,
- 53:43they talked a lot about
- 53:45we're keeping everybody
- 53:46inside except for this one
- 53:47minimal run to keep
- 53:49everybody out of the heat.
- 53:50Yeah.
- 53:52Yeah.
- 53:54So I don't know what that is.
- 53:56If I was a part of the leaks,
- 53:58I could tell you probably,
- 54:00but because I didn't get
- 54:01any leak information, I can't tell you.
- 54:04Yeah, I don't know.
- 54:07I don't know.
- 54:10You think it's well-rounded, Carolyn?
- 54:12What do you think?
- 54:16I think it's missing a long
- 54:18time domain for sure.
- 54:20I think that there's a lot of
- 54:24I think there's enough gymnastics,
- 54:26like you have 16 rope climbs,
- 54:2830 ring muscle ups,
- 54:29you have some bar muscle ups in there,
- 54:31chest to bars.
- 54:33I would have liked to have
- 54:34seen inverted a little bit more,
- 54:35so either handstand pushups
- 54:37of some sort or more
- 54:40handstand walk as a separator.
- 54:45The weights,
- 54:46I don't think there's anything
- 54:47crazy heavy in any of the
- 54:49workouts besides testing
- 54:51your front squat.
- 54:54which is just raw strength.
- 54:58I'm okay with them.
- 54:59I mean, I, I,
- 55:00I like every like test basically.
- 55:05I feel like that's what I see.
- 55:07Like people are commenting on it.
- 55:08They love it.
- 55:09They love the tests.
- 55:10Like,
- 55:11but I feel like they love the tests
- 55:12individually or they're
- 55:13like seeing like six or
- 55:15seven that they really like.
- 55:16And they're like, Oh, those look fun.
- 55:18But I,
- 55:18I don't know that they're like
- 55:20looking at the programming
- 55:21in totality and realizing that,
- 55:25I don't know.
- 55:25I mean,
- 55:25I'm really curious to see who comes
- 55:29out at the top at the end of this week,
- 55:31if it really is like the bigger,
- 55:33stronger athlete or I don't know.
- 55:36I think I think you need
- 55:37some some good strength and gymnastics.
- 55:40So I think where you're
- 55:41lacking is where the games went,
- 55:43which was all aerobic.
- 55:46Right.
- 55:46So I think if you're supposed to be,
- 55:49I think this is going to be
- 55:51your pure CrossFitter
- 55:52inside the gym type athlete,
- 55:55like your quarterfinal
- 55:58semifinal type athlete that
- 56:00is good with moving weights
- 56:03at like moderate heavy
- 56:04weights and some pulling and stuff.
- 56:08Gymnastics.
- 56:09Like I think those are the
- 56:10type of athletes that will do well.
- 56:11They don't need to go very, very long.
- 56:14What's that?
- 56:15Do you think that's where we're going?
- 56:17After what happened in Fort Worth,
- 56:18do you think we're going to
- 56:19be more climate-controlled,
- 56:22at least in the next few years?
- 56:24I mean, I hope not.
- 56:27I think aerobic capacity is
- 56:30extremely important.
- 56:32I don't think it should
- 56:33always be machine-based
- 56:34because I don't think that
- 56:35power output is the same
- 56:37thing as going for runs.
- 56:39I don't want it to be just ski or grow,
- 56:42ecobike,
- 56:44And that's how we're testing
- 56:45like monostructural.
- 56:46Cause that it's still favoring the bigger,
- 56:49taller, heavier athletes.
- 56:50Like I want it to be, um,
- 56:53more aerobic based, long, long workouts.
- 56:57Um, cause either we had the outdoor run,
- 57:01which everybody loved, right?
- 57:04Like everybody loved that.
- 57:05We actually got outside and
- 57:06ran and not on a machine.
- 57:08And like, I don't want,
- 57:09I hope we don't go away
- 57:10from that just because of what happened.
- 57:12Um,
- 57:13But I wanted to give a shout
- 57:14out to Larry because last
- 57:15week I forgot to put up his paid comment.
- 57:19So I wanted to say you
- 57:20finally got your one rep max, Larry.
- 57:22So happy for you.
- 57:23At least one person is out
- 57:25there happy that you get to
- 57:26do a one rep max front squat.
- 57:33The other thing I wanted to
- 57:34ask is because they changed
- 57:37the schedule and now
- 57:38there's only one event on Sunday,
- 57:41that means you're doing nine
- 57:42events in three days.
- 57:43A lot of athletes are used to that,
- 57:45but the masters have never
- 57:46really done that amount of
- 57:48volume in a day that many
- 57:50days in a row at the games.
- 57:52So that is a little bit different.
- 57:53Do you think that that adds
- 57:55to the aerobic test or at
- 57:57least that you have to
- 57:58recover multiple more times
- 58:00in those first three days?
- 58:06I would say yes, if they're for one,
- 58:09if the time caps were correct.
- 58:11Cause I think some people
- 58:13are going to not get the
- 58:14full volume of work on some
- 58:15of these tests.
- 58:17Um, and, and, and then like,
- 58:21there's so many short ones,
- 58:23eight minutes or less that
- 58:24I don't know that, that,
- 58:25that volume adds up even
- 58:27for three in a day.
- 58:28I don't know.
- 58:34Okay.
- 58:37All right.
- 58:40With that,
- 58:41I want to give a shout-out to
- 58:43the 70-plus division.
- 58:45This is the first time
- 58:46they're ever going to have
- 58:47a division at the CrossFit Games.
- 58:51I know people that qualified
- 58:53in the 65-plus but were 70-plus
- 58:57and are choosing to go in
- 58:59the 70 plus to compete with
- 59:00their own age group,
- 59:02which is really cool.
- 59:04So super, super stoked for them.
- 59:06I know they,
- 59:08Lana has been reaching out to
- 59:09me about how excited they are.
- 59:11Wanted to make sure we gave
- 59:12them a quick shout out on
- 59:13the show because this is
- 59:16their opportunity to show
- 59:17that they can bring some people and,
- 59:20and show what they have to,
- 59:21that they have some stuff
- 59:23and to do it out there on the floor.
- 59:24So super stoked for them.
- 59:26How many people in that division?
- 59:29So I think on the women's side,
- 59:30it's close to 20.
- 59:32And on the men's side,
- 59:32I think it's like 12.
- 59:34I do.
- 59:34I do like the fact that the
- 59:36older age groups aren't
- 59:37doing like 10 events.
- 59:39Um,
- 59:40and certain movements were taken out
- 59:42for consideration of, um,
- 59:44what it would look like maybe,
- 59:46and just the volume that I would,
- 59:47it would take.
- 59:48So I think that that's smart.
- 59:49I like that, that, that was, um,
- 59:52take it into account.
- 59:54Yeah.
- 59:56All right,
- 59:56next up on the list is a couple
- 59:58names to look for in the
- 59:59different divisions.
- 1:00:01And this is just me,
- 1:00:02my thoughts of watching
- 1:00:04Masters for so many years,
- 1:00:05and my thoughts of who to watch out for.
- 1:00:07So I just want to give you
- 1:00:08guys some names since you
- 1:00:09are going to be watching the stream.
- 1:00:11And maybe you want to know
- 1:00:12who you want to look for,
- 1:00:13who might do well in the 35
- 1:00:16to 39-year-old division.
- 1:00:17I'll start with the women.
- 1:00:19People I think you should
- 1:00:19keep an eye on are Andrea Nistler,
- 1:00:23Caroline Klutz,
- 1:00:25Holly Henderson,
- 1:00:27longtime semifinal athlete.
- 1:00:30This is her opportunity to
- 1:00:31do something big.
- 1:00:32And then, of course, Kelly Kelly,
- 1:00:34formerly known as Kelly Clark,
- 1:00:36who just two short years
- 1:00:37ago was one point away from
- 1:00:39making the CrossFit Games.
- 1:00:40And she'll be competing in the 35 to 39.
- 1:00:44On the men's side,
- 1:00:45I think your favorite is Will Morad.
- 1:00:48Yeah.
- 1:00:49Uh, but to compete with him,
- 1:00:51you'll have Bronislaw Alinkowitz, uh,
- 1:00:53right there with him.
- 1:00:54Chase Smith,
- 1:00:55who competed in the West
- 1:00:56semifinal this year will be
- 1:00:58competing in the 35 to 39.
- 1:01:00And Mark Hutchinson always
- 1:01:02comes to play in in-person events.
- 1:01:04Uh,
- 1:01:04if he can hold on for the entire weekend,
- 1:01:07he will be someone to watch
- 1:01:0840 to 44 year old women, uh,
- 1:01:13My favorite is Jamie Latimer.
- 1:01:15I don't know if you've heard of her,
- 1:01:16but whenever she gets into
- 1:01:18an in-person competition, she is a savage,
- 1:01:21straight-up savage,
- 1:01:23and I can't wait to see her
- 1:01:24finally at the CrossFit Games.
- 1:01:25No one deserves it more than she does.
- 1:01:27Thank you.
- 1:01:28Also,
- 1:01:29you got to keep an eye on Kelly
- 1:01:30Jackson Essig.
- 1:01:32Kelly Jackson's been around
- 1:01:33the sport a real long time,
- 1:01:36is going to be a fierce competitor.
- 1:01:38Carleen Matthews podiumed at
- 1:01:40the Masters CrossFit Games
- 1:01:42in the 35- to 39-year-old division.
- 1:01:44So she has a good shot at
- 1:01:46doing so in the 40-44.
- 1:01:49And then you have to look
- 1:01:50out for legend Rebecca Voigt-Miller.
- 1:01:52She's always there and
- 1:01:53always in contention.
- 1:01:54And finally, just kind of a wild card,
- 1:01:57is Megan Apostolaris.
- 1:01:59She was at Legends last year.
- 1:02:02She's a really good athlete.
- 1:02:03Top 10 all the time.
- 1:02:04Made the games last year.
- 1:02:05I think she will do well this year.
- 1:02:08If we move to men 40-44...
- 1:02:11Rudy Berger, my friend,
- 1:02:13two-time CrossFit Games champion.
- 1:02:16He's there defending for the
- 1:02:17third year in a row.
- 1:02:18Should be watching for him.
- 1:02:20Guido Trinidad is competing
- 1:02:22in that division.
- 1:02:23If you don't know who he is,
- 1:02:25he's the one who started
- 1:02:25Wadapalooza many years ago
- 1:02:28and is an OG CrossFitter
- 1:02:30and will do well.
- 1:02:31James St.
- 1:02:32Ledger, we just interviewed him this week.
- 1:02:35He is coming in in the top five.
- 1:02:37He has a great shot at this.
- 1:02:39Julian Cerna is the number
- 1:02:41one seed coming in,
- 1:02:43and he is from Brazil.
- 1:02:46I'm always skeptical of
- 1:02:47those South American athletes.
- 1:02:48He's just from Brazil.
- 1:02:51He trains at Training Think Tank.
- 1:02:52Well, he's not always there,
- 1:02:55but he's a longtime
- 1:02:56Training Think Tank athlete.
- 1:02:58And my wild card for this is Brett Owsley.
- 1:03:01Comes in in the top 10 qualifying.
- 1:03:04And I think he has a shot as well.
- 1:03:06So watch out for him.
- 1:03:08Then in the 45 to 49-year-old women,
- 1:03:11can't beat Kelly Friel.
- 1:03:12The woman has two silvers
- 1:03:13and now three golds.
- 1:03:15Back to back, she is defending her title.
- 1:03:17But...
- 1:03:18someone came out of
- 1:03:19retirement named val vobral
- 1:03:21in that division who could
- 1:03:23go up against her so that's
- 1:03:24a great um that's a great
- 1:03:27match up there and don't
- 1:03:28forget about deanna posey
- 1:03:30as well in that division
- 1:03:31she'll do well um as well
- 1:03:35then we go to the men uh
- 1:03:37jason grubb gosh what four
- 1:03:38time in a row champion
- 1:03:41Got to put him first.
- 1:03:43But Kane Hayes is a fierce competitor.
- 1:03:46He could give him a run.
- 1:03:47Mike Kern is always in that run as well.
- 1:03:51But the dark horse is Chris Anderson,
- 1:03:53the guy podiumed last year
- 1:03:54at the CrossFit Games.
- 1:03:56He does not look like he
- 1:03:57belongs out on the floor
- 1:03:58with the rest of the athletes,
- 1:04:00but he has impeccable
- 1:04:01technique and is so
- 1:04:03efficient with all of his moves.
- 1:04:06So make sure to watch out
- 1:04:06for Chris Anderson.
- 1:04:09And then we move to the 50 to 54.
- 1:04:13Division women, Cheryl Brost,
- 1:04:16you can never count her out.
- 1:04:17Seven times Masters Games athlete,
- 1:04:19plus three-time elite
- 1:04:21athlete at the Games,
- 1:04:22and she's won the Games three times.
- 1:04:24So you have to have Cheryl Brost up there.
- 1:04:27Jennifer Dieter, great athlete.
- 1:04:29She won Legends last year.
- 1:04:31And Dee Dee Hoffman,
- 1:04:32the greatest athlete you
- 1:04:33would never have seen
- 1:04:34because she suffered a
- 1:04:36severe knee injury right
- 1:04:37before the CrossFit Games
- 1:04:38when she qualified a couple years ago.
- 1:04:40But I'm hoping she's back
- 1:04:41from that knee injury,
- 1:04:43and you'll see something
- 1:04:44special from DeeDee Hoffman in the 50-54.
- 1:04:46On the men's side,
- 1:04:49Joel Hughes comes in as the
- 1:04:50number one seed.
- 1:04:51And if you don't know this,
- 1:04:52he was the original
- 1:04:54training partner of Ariel Lowen.
- 1:04:56um, before Joel, she trained with Joel.
- 1:04:59Um, he won the games in 2021 or 2019.
- 1:05:02I'm sorry, 2019.
- 1:05:04And is coming back five
- 1:05:05years later now in his new division, uh,
- 1:05:08to take a shot.
- 1:05:08So he has a great shot.
- 1:05:10Um,
- 1:05:10but keep an eye on Justin LaSala as well.
- 1:05:13And the women 55 to 59,
- 1:05:16my favorite is Tia Vesser.
- 1:05:17She comes in as the number two seed.
- 1:05:19She is a phenomenal athlete.
- 1:05:21I've known her for years.
- 1:05:22She won the games in 2021.
- 1:05:25So I think she has a good
- 1:05:26shot at doing it.
- 1:05:27She did that in 50 to 54.
- 1:05:29She's now 55 to 59.
- 1:05:31So check that out.
- 1:05:32And Cherianne Benoit is also
- 1:05:34competing that you need to
- 1:05:35take a look at there.
- 1:05:37And something just popped up.
- 1:05:38There we go.
- 1:05:40And then on the men's side,
- 1:05:41I have Albert Police and Lon Allen.
- 1:05:44Lon Allen is just, he's just an animal.
- 1:05:48He's a really good grit guy
- 1:05:50in that 55 to 59 range.
- 1:05:54And just keep a look out for that.
- 1:05:5760 to 64, Lynn Watt is always there.
- 1:06:00Got to interview her after
- 1:06:01she won Legends last year.
- 1:06:03She's going to be a force to reckon with.
- 1:06:05And Lori Mishnick.
- 1:06:10I can never pronounce your name,
- 1:06:11but I always see you're on
- 1:06:12the leaderboard and I
- 1:06:13always see you're out on
- 1:06:13the floor doing well.
- 1:06:15So take a look there.
- 1:06:16And then men, 60, 64,
- 1:06:18Patrick McCarty been around forever.
- 1:06:20And Tony Tursky is just, I love that man.
- 1:06:24And I'm always going to mention his name.
- 1:06:26The guy is an emotional.
- 1:06:29He's just a, he's like just real dude,
- 1:06:32a real good guy.
- 1:06:33And I'll always root for Tony Tursky.
- 1:06:3765 plus women.
- 1:06:38Who else would I root for but Denise Moore,
- 1:06:40who's always in our chat
- 1:06:41and always supporting the show.
- 1:06:43And she was a top five games
- 1:06:45athlete last year,
- 1:06:45if I remember correctly.
- 1:06:47And then Julie Holt is the
- 1:06:49defending champ.
- 1:06:50So got to give her her love as well.
- 1:06:53And then on the men's side,
- 1:06:54David Hippensteel and Matt Bell.
- 1:06:57Matt Bell's another one of
- 1:06:58those gritty athletes
- 1:06:59that's just doing what he can to win.
- 1:07:02So if anybody's going to
- 1:07:04upset David Hippensteel,
- 1:07:05I'm going with Matt Bell.
- 1:07:08And that is my people to watch.
- 1:07:10I went through that fast
- 1:07:11because we are running late.
- 1:07:13But I know that not
- 1:07:14everybody watches the
- 1:07:16Masters as much as I do.
- 1:07:19So I just wanted to give you
- 1:07:20some names to kind of look out for there.
- 1:07:24We're going to do some coverage next week.
- 1:07:26Carolyn and I will do some
- 1:07:27wrap-up shows every night,
- 1:07:30hopefully around 9 Eastern time,
- 1:07:338 Central,
- 1:07:35because these games will be
- 1:07:36held in the Central time zone.
- 1:07:41so I will do that then um I
- 1:07:44was going to ask who tried
- 1:07:45these wads I know some
- 1:07:47people in the chat have
- 1:07:47tried the wads I know
- 1:07:49jamie's tried the wads with
- 1:07:51a week out is that plenty
- 1:07:53of time to test as many uh
- 1:07:56wads as you can or are you
- 1:07:58are you guys just picking
- 1:07:59the couple you want to kind
- 1:08:00of feel and letting the
- 1:08:02other ones ride you want to
- 1:08:06know what I'm doing
- 1:08:08I don't know.
- 1:08:08I don't,
- 1:08:09I don't know that it's enough time
- 1:08:10to try to test these all.
- 1:08:13Um, I don't know,
- 1:08:15maybe pick the couple that
- 1:08:16you want to figure out pacing strategy on,
- 1:08:19pick a couple implements
- 1:08:20from a couple of the
- 1:08:21movements and throw them to
- 1:08:23throw them together.
- 1:08:23Um, like if I was in your position,
- 1:08:28I got workouts a week
- 1:08:29before I would maybe get
- 1:08:31certain athletes to do the workouts.
- 1:08:32And I just,
- 1:08:33sometimes I just want to watch
- 1:08:34them do it just so I can visually see
- 1:08:36what they look like, look at their paces,
- 1:08:38stuff like that.
- 1:08:39So like that could be a good idea for,
- 1:08:41for people to do is get
- 1:08:43someone to do the workout
- 1:08:45and get some feedback there.
- 1:08:47If you don't have the time
- 1:08:48to actually physically do, do the wads.
- 1:08:50But I think that's a good idea.
- 1:08:52Like you said, just doing parts of stuff,
- 1:08:54playing around.
- 1:08:54But I think the week before the games,
- 1:08:56it's important to feel confident,
- 1:08:58to feel as healthy as
- 1:09:00possible and to not overdo it.
- 1:09:06What I think is funny is
- 1:09:07when your friend starts
- 1:09:08texting you and saying, hey,
- 1:09:10check this out on my YouTube channel.
- 1:09:13And there's workout one.
- 1:09:14And then 20 minutes later,
- 1:09:15here comes workout two.
- 1:09:17And then here comes workout three.
- 1:09:19And I'm like, oh, my God.
- 1:09:20If there's an actual event,
- 1:09:21you'll get more rest than this.
- 1:09:23Yeah, it'll be fine.
- 1:09:29What is she doing?
- 1:09:33I'm weird.
- 1:09:35Nobody should listen to me.
- 1:09:41Yeah.
- 1:09:42That was funny.
- 1:09:43That was really funny.
- 1:09:45I don't want to like gloss over this,
- 1:09:47but we're running late in
- 1:09:47the show and I don't want
- 1:09:48to be here all night.
- 1:09:49The teens are going this weekend as well.
- 1:09:51They are being live streamed.
- 1:09:53Please show them some love as well.
- 1:09:54We were going to go through
- 1:09:55their workouts.
- 1:09:56We're not going to do that tonight.
- 1:09:58We, we took too long on the masters,
- 1:10:00but that's where our focus is this year.
- 1:10:02And I'm not going to
- 1:10:03apologize for that either.
- 1:10:05We have, before the season started,
- 1:10:07our focus was going to be
- 1:10:08on Masters athletes because
- 1:10:11that's who we wanted to cover,
- 1:10:13and that's what we're doing,
- 1:10:14along with the elite athletes.
- 1:10:16So cheer on those teen athletes.
- 1:10:19We're going to try to keep...
- 1:10:21Some of those stories going
- 1:10:22where there's a teen
- 1:10:23athlete and a master's
- 1:10:24athlete family member
- 1:10:26competing at the same time.
- 1:10:28I'm going to try to get
- 1:10:28footage of mom watching daughter.
- 1:10:31Um,
- 1:10:31some things like that for our behind
- 1:10:32the scenes.
- 1:10:34And so we can see how that
- 1:10:35goes and follow those
- 1:10:35stories through the weekend.
- 1:10:39Um,
- 1:10:40what a Palooza SoCal announced an
- 1:10:41amended lineup and captain's picks, uh,
- 1:10:46Because of the tragedy from
- 1:10:47Fort Worth and the passing of Lazar,
- 1:10:52they had to replace him on the team.
- 1:10:55And then some other people
- 1:10:56due to injury had to withdraw,
- 1:10:57including Roman Krennikoff
- 1:10:59and Ricky Gerard.
- 1:11:01So they had to replace those people.
- 1:11:03And then the captains were selected,
- 1:11:06which ended up being Tia
- 1:11:09Claire Toomey and Patrick
- 1:11:11Vellner and Danielle Brandon and BKG.
- 1:11:16Uh,
- 1:11:17so the final lineups are team world is
- 1:11:20BKG, Guy Mejeros, uh, Enola Kai,
- 1:11:25Brent Fikowski.
- 1:11:26Many believe that even
- 1:11:27though he is in North America,
- 1:11:29that they were so short
- 1:11:31because of the injuries
- 1:11:32that Brent volunteered to
- 1:11:33go on team world.
- 1:11:35Um, but that's speculation at this point.
- 1:11:38Uh, Tia Claire Toomey, Emma Tall,
- 1:11:40Sahir Kaya, and Gracie Walton.
- 1:11:43Gracie Walton was a captain's pick,
- 1:11:46and I believe Brent
- 1:11:48Fikowski was a captain's pick.
- 1:11:52For Team North America,
- 1:11:53it's Patrick Vellner, Jeffrey Adler,
- 1:11:56Justin Medeiros, Dallin Pepper,
- 1:11:58Danielle Brandon, Alexis Raptus,
- 1:12:01Ariel Lowen, and Emily Rolfe.
- 1:12:03Dallin Pepper and Emily
- 1:12:04Rolfe being the captain's picks on that.
- 1:12:07So, yeah.
- 1:12:12Super fun there.
- 1:12:15I've talked to eCaptures.
- 1:12:17We're trying to get him
- 1:12:18credentials to take
- 1:12:19pictures for us again at that event.
- 1:12:22And then Amanda Hari is
- 1:12:23competing there in one of
- 1:12:25the community events.
- 1:12:26And she's going to come on
- 1:12:27and share what she cites
- 1:12:29and scenes from the event
- 1:12:31during that weekend as well.
- 1:12:34So we'll have some coverage from that.
- 1:12:38Uh,
- 1:12:38nasty Nelson's thanks for sharing our
- 1:12:40Birmingham pickleball
- 1:12:41roundup on Instagram.
- 1:12:42Uh,
- 1:12:42looking forward to having the games
- 1:12:44downtown safe travels to
- 1:12:46anyone headed down to the ham.
- 1:12:48Uh, yeah, they, uh, they asked if I shared,
- 1:12:50they're having a pickleball
- 1:12:51event the weekend of the
- 1:12:53CrossFit games in Birmingham.
- 1:12:55So, uh, and,
- 1:12:56and inviting people to come
- 1:12:57over and hang out at their
- 1:12:59pickleball tournament.
- 1:13:01So make sure to go check
- 1:13:03that out on Instagram.
- 1:13:07We're going to finish up
- 1:13:08with the PFAA makes a list of demands.
- 1:13:13This has been covered a lot this week.
- 1:13:16If you haven't heard,
- 1:13:16I'm going to do this very succinctly.
- 1:13:20They have asked for three things.
- 1:13:22They put it as a demand.
- 1:13:24I don't know if I love that word,
- 1:13:27but the PFAA represents the
- 1:13:29interest of the athletes
- 1:13:30competing at the CrossFit Games.
- 1:13:33they said that they would
- 1:13:36demand an appropriate level
- 1:13:37of transparency between
- 1:13:38CrossFit and the PFA
- 1:13:39regarding the third-party
- 1:13:40investigation as to the
- 1:13:42death of Lazar Jukic.
- 1:13:44Then demand two was we
- 1:13:46demand CrossFit create an
- 1:13:47independent safety team to
- 1:13:48liaise with the PFA on an ongoing basis.
- 1:13:52Number three,
- 1:13:52we demand that Dave Castro be
- 1:13:54removed from his position
- 1:13:56in the sport team.
- 1:13:59These demands reflect the
- 1:14:00immediate steps necessary
- 1:14:02to begin to restore athlete
- 1:14:03trust in CrossFit the sport.
- 1:14:06And it goes on,
- 1:14:07and it's signed by the
- 1:14:08board members of the PFAA.
- 1:14:12So I wanted to give you guys,
- 1:14:14I have some thoughts on this,
- 1:14:16but I wanted to give you
- 1:14:17guys an opportunity to
- 1:14:18share your thoughts on this as well.
- 1:14:24I mean, for me, I'm a little confused.
- 1:14:26That's like Brent and Pat,
- 1:14:29and they're all willing to
- 1:14:30go compete at Wadapalooza
- 1:14:34SoCal without any... I mean,
- 1:14:37that's a CrossFit-licensed event,
- 1:14:38correct?
- 1:14:39It's not.
- 1:14:40Oh, did they remove their license?
- 1:14:41Wadapalooza hasn't been
- 1:14:42CrossFit-licensed in a while.
- 1:14:44Okay.
- 1:14:45Well, then, okay.
- 1:14:48I guess they can do what
- 1:14:50they want if they aren't going to
- 1:14:52step foot on a CrossFit event floor.
- 1:14:55I don't think it says that.
- 1:14:56It just says restore the
- 1:14:57trust in the sport.
- 1:14:58Yeah, but I mean, if you make the... Well,
- 1:15:01if Dave doesn't get removed, to me,
- 1:15:05that would mean they're not
- 1:15:06participating in CrossFit
- 1:15:07events until these... See,
- 1:15:10I think that's the problem
- 1:15:11with the way this was written.
- 1:15:12They don't tell you what the
- 1:15:14outcome is if they aren't met.
- 1:15:18They just said their trust
- 1:15:19wouldn't be there.
- 1:15:20It doesn't say they wouldn't compete.
- 1:15:24So, Carolyn, do you have any thoughts?
- 1:15:27Well, the first two are pretty, to me,
- 1:15:29self-explanatory.
- 1:15:30I don't think anyone would
- 1:15:31have anything to say on that.
- 1:15:33I'm just curious for the Dave Castro part,
- 1:15:38whether it was just those
- 1:15:39athletes that signed and it
- 1:15:41was just a group decision
- 1:15:42between them or if there
- 1:15:43was anything that was
- 1:15:44reached out to the games
- 1:15:46athletes from this year.
- 1:15:48or a bigger pool of athletes
- 1:15:50to generate more input behind,
- 1:15:53behind that ask.
- 1:15:55I still think it's early on
- 1:15:58in the investigation to
- 1:15:59pinpoint someone specifically.
- 1:16:03I think that they could hold
- 1:16:04off on maybe that part.
- 1:16:08Oh, that was me.
- 1:16:12Nope.
- 1:16:12It looks like your internet
- 1:16:15cut out just for us right
- 1:16:16in the middle of the great point.
- 1:16:18Well,
- 1:16:20I was saying that I feel they could
- 1:16:23wait on the investigation
- 1:16:24to be over to know whether it's him,
- 1:16:27it's him and other people or, you know,
- 1:16:30I think there's a lot more
- 1:16:31to be known in this tragic incident.
- 1:16:37And I'm just not sure if it
- 1:16:42was also communicated
- 1:16:44outside of that group that signed.
- 1:16:49I mean, we all know what we saw,
- 1:16:51and in my opinion,
- 1:16:54was very preventable in
- 1:16:56terms of the response factor to Lazar,
- 1:17:04or lack of response, I should say.
- 1:17:06And who is to blame,
- 1:17:08I don't know right now.
- 1:17:10And until that part is
- 1:17:11specifically whether
- 1:17:13It's the safety team that
- 1:17:14was hired or the execution of that.
- 1:17:17We just don't know enough
- 1:17:18information to call for
- 1:17:23someone's job yet.
- 1:17:25Do I think someone will have
- 1:17:27to pay for what happened?
- 1:17:29I do believe so.
- 1:17:31I just don't know who or how many people.
- 1:17:36Can I ask you a question, Carolyn?
- 1:17:37You're a three-time games athlete.
- 1:17:40You've competed at the highest level.
- 1:17:42Have you ever been asked by
- 1:17:44the PFAA to become a member?
- 1:17:46Yes.
- 1:17:48You have?
- 1:17:49Yes.
- 1:17:49And is there a process to become a member?
- 1:17:53I was a member the last few years.
- 1:17:57I would just get information
- 1:17:58sent by Grace through email,
- 1:18:02and it was just what they're working on.
- 1:18:04And if we have other input or questions,
- 1:18:06just email them back type thing.
- 1:18:09I believe I still get some of the PFA.
- 1:18:11I don't know if it just gets
- 1:18:12sent out to people in general,
- 1:18:15but I didn't receive like a
- 1:18:17specific survey or anything
- 1:18:20in regards to the incident
- 1:18:22at the games or anything
- 1:18:23like that going forward.
- 1:18:25So I'm not sure if I'm still a part of it.
- 1:18:27I know I was part of the
- 1:18:28group at some point.
- 1:18:32So that's where my confusion is right now,
- 1:18:35is who does the PFAA represent?
- 1:18:38Because I don't know.
- 1:18:39I didn't know that athletes
- 1:18:42were invited to join.
- 1:18:44I knew they had a meeting
- 1:18:45after semifinals last year
- 1:18:48in a couple locations.
- 1:18:49And then after the games last year,
- 1:18:51they had another meeting.
- 1:18:53but never have I heard like
- 1:18:55who they represent,
- 1:18:57who is on the roster of membership.
- 1:18:59I've belonged to
- 1:19:00professional associations for my job.
- 1:19:03And with that are like
- 1:19:04bylaws of what you are,
- 1:19:07of what it takes to become a member,
- 1:19:09what the dues are to become a member.
- 1:19:12And my fear is that the PFAA
- 1:19:16is stepping ahead of the athletic,
- 1:19:20the athlete body.
- 1:19:22and not getting, like you said,
- 1:19:24you don't know if they got
- 1:19:25the input of anybody else,
- 1:19:26but it just feels like it's
- 1:19:28moving forward without that input.
- 1:19:30And I don't even know who
- 1:19:32that input would be from
- 1:19:34because I've talked to a
- 1:19:35lot of like semi-final athletes.
- 1:19:36They've never been asked to join.
- 1:19:39I've talked to Masters athletes.
- 1:19:40They've never been asked to join.
- 1:19:43I think they've kept it so far.
- 1:19:46As far as I know,
- 1:19:47the athletes that are
- 1:19:49currently competing at the games are
- 1:19:51Um, last year after the games,
- 1:19:53I was sent an email, uh, by Brent.
- 1:19:55If I wanted to stay with the
- 1:19:57meeting that you're talking about,
- 1:19:58like after the games,
- 1:19:59and then if you couldn't stay,
- 1:20:00cause you have to travel,
- 1:20:01then we just got emailed
- 1:20:03like the minutes of, of the meeting.
- 1:20:05Um,
- 1:20:06I think there was also a video on
- 1:20:08YouTube that we could watch
- 1:20:09of the discussions that
- 1:20:10were had going forward,
- 1:20:12but I didn't get anything this year.
- 1:20:14So I don't know if it's just
- 1:20:15cause I've been two years
- 1:20:15now out removed and the
- 1:20:18year that I was there last year, um,
- 1:20:20I was closer to the last
- 1:20:22time I competed there.
- 1:20:24The first line of, of the,
- 1:20:25the thing put out says the
- 1:20:28PFA represents the interest
- 1:20:30of athletes competing in
- 1:20:32the CrossFit game season.
- 1:20:34That is a CrossFit game
- 1:20:36season is the open until the end.
- 1:20:39That's a large number.
- 1:20:41I compete in the open.
- 1:20:42I've never got an invite to
- 1:20:44be a part of the PFA.
- 1:20:46And I don't think they'd
- 1:20:47want me as a part of it.
- 1:20:48Right?
- 1:20:48Like,
- 1:20:49I think they really mean the
- 1:20:51CrossFit Games individual athletes.
- 1:20:55Where would it stop?
- 1:20:56People are in and out of the
- 1:21:00sport too much.
- 1:21:02I think they're looking for
- 1:21:03people that are
- 1:21:05consistently at the Games
- 1:21:06and have maybe even more
- 1:21:07and from different regions
- 1:21:08of the world to get some
- 1:21:09input on maybe what's going
- 1:21:10on at their semifinals
- 1:21:13versus another semifinals.
- 1:21:14I think the people that are
- 1:21:15on the list right now
- 1:21:16represent different regions.
- 1:21:20Here's my thing.
- 1:21:21I'm going to say this one more time.
- 1:21:22I,
- 1:21:23as a member of professional associations
- 1:21:24at work, we have to pay dues.
- 1:21:27We're on a roster.
- 1:21:28That professional
- 1:21:29association has to publish
- 1:21:33the list of who is a member
- 1:21:34of that association.
- 1:21:36The PFAA has done none of
- 1:21:38that to my recollection.
- 1:21:39There's nowhere where I can
- 1:21:40go and see a roster of
- 1:21:41athletes that they represent.
- 1:21:44I think that is an important
- 1:21:46step that needs to be taken
- 1:21:48before you make demands of
- 1:21:49any kind so that we know
- 1:21:52who it is that's saying this.
- 1:21:53Because ultimately...
- 1:21:56The games were, was the perfect,
- 1:21:57and I have nothing against the PFA.
- 1:21:59I think athletes do need a voice.
- 1:22:01I think they do need representation.
- 1:22:03I just wish they would be
- 1:22:04more formal about it.
- 1:22:06So we'd know who that voice is for.
- 1:22:10they had the opportune time
- 1:22:11at the games with what happened to say,
- 1:22:14okay guys,
- 1:22:15we need to get our ducks in a
- 1:22:16row and we need to send out,
- 1:22:18fill out this form to tell
- 1:22:20me that you're going to be
- 1:22:20a member of the PFAA and we
- 1:22:22will represent our
- 1:22:24interests as an athlete body whole.
- 1:22:27And then you could say, this is the PFAA.
- 1:22:30We represent 92% of CrossFit
- 1:22:33games athletes.
- 1:22:34And then that holds water.
- 1:22:38Just saying you represent
- 1:22:39the interests of athletes is very vague,
- 1:22:42and it doesn't hold the
- 1:22:43water that it could hold if
- 1:22:45they just take another step.
- 1:22:48For me, this is a personal opinion.
- 1:22:53Now,
- 1:22:54if you're saying that these are the
- 1:22:55demands going forward,
- 1:22:58I find that you would have
- 1:22:59had way more ground had you had your –
- 1:23:04put your foot down at the
- 1:23:05games and not continue to compete.
- 1:23:07Cause if you continue to
- 1:23:08compete and then ask for
- 1:23:10those demands after and say,
- 1:23:11now we won't compete in anything else.
- 1:23:13CrossFit related to me, it's like, okay,
- 1:23:18you got, you know,
- 1:23:19your money or whatever.
- 1:23:22And now you're ready to,
- 1:23:25To me, that part didn't look as good,
- 1:23:27but what part of the weekend looked good?
- 1:23:30Who am I to judge from my position?
- 1:23:34But no one was on the same page.
- 1:23:37And I don't think that still
- 1:23:39right now people are on the
- 1:23:40same page if you look at the comments.
- 1:23:42So it would be good to have
- 1:23:46more than those names sign
- 1:23:48and say how much of the
- 1:23:49athletes are being
- 1:23:50represented like you said
- 1:23:52um yeah it's it's a it's a
- 1:23:56tough one I think we're
- 1:23:57very divided right now in
- 1:23:58our community it's uh it's
- 1:24:01a lot of people are hurting
- 1:24:03like it it's I've never
- 1:24:05seen the community as divided as as it
- 1:24:10And the issue is that I'm
- 1:24:11sure the athletes are as
- 1:24:12divided as everybody else.
- 1:24:14And so to say that you
- 1:24:16represent them all just
- 1:24:17doesn't ring true unless
- 1:24:20you guys took a vote that you did.
- 1:24:23And here's my next piece of this.
- 1:24:25Now PFAA is working with
- 1:24:28Guadalupalooza SoCal.
- 1:24:29They're working with the
- 1:24:31NorCal Classic to ensure
- 1:24:33safety and fair competition.
- 1:24:38Now you're jumping into this
- 1:24:39and we still don't know who
- 1:24:40you represent.
- 1:24:41And those aren't necessarily
- 1:24:42games athletes now, right?
- 1:24:44Like when you go to NorCal classic,
- 1:24:47you compete there, you're a games athlete,
- 1:24:49but the majority of the
- 1:24:50people that compete there
- 1:24:51are your semifinal athletes, right?
- 1:24:55I think they need to like
- 1:24:57come down to that level.
- 1:24:58One,
- 1:24:59you're going to boost membership by a
- 1:25:01hundred fold, um,
- 1:25:03by including semifinal
- 1:25:04athletes into your association and,
- 1:25:08And they'd be willing to pay
- 1:25:09dues to have protection in these cases.
- 1:25:12But where I'm worried is now
- 1:25:15PFA is putting their name
- 1:25:16on the safety of these events.
- 1:25:19That's a big step to take.
- 1:25:21And if you don't even know
- 1:25:24who your members are,
- 1:25:26are you willing to make that jump?
- 1:25:28Because now you're just as
- 1:25:29liable as the event is.
- 1:25:32Yeah,
- 1:25:32like if something happens at an event,
- 1:25:35for instance, Waterpalooza.
- 1:25:36Waterpalooza had the PFAA with them prior,
- 1:25:40and I'll be the first to
- 1:25:41say I don't think
- 1:25:42Waterpalooza's water safety was safe,
- 1:25:46right?
- 1:25:47And there's been incidents
- 1:25:48there of things being unsafe,
- 1:25:50and the PFAA was behind that prior,
- 1:25:54whether it was doing wall
- 1:25:55walks with a wet platform
- 1:25:56or handstand pushups on the
- 1:25:58middle of the water somewhere, like
- 1:26:02previous years like there's
- 1:26:03been things prior so they
- 1:26:07are taking a risk by
- 1:26:08putting their name and
- 1:26:09saying that they're going
- 1:26:09to overlook all the safety
- 1:26:10things because our sport is
- 1:26:11just so unique that a lot
- 1:26:13of times we don't know
- 1:26:15something is like could
- 1:26:16have been done um
- 1:26:19differently until something
- 1:26:20happens and it's like oh
- 1:26:22this person fell from the
- 1:26:24rope okay now let's put the
- 1:26:25crash mats every time oh this um
- 1:26:29this rope is too long for the rope climbs.
- 1:26:31Okay.
- 1:26:31We need to cut.
- 1:26:32Like,
- 1:26:32it's almost like we're a very
- 1:26:33reaction sports just
- 1:26:34because it's still very new.
- 1:26:37And I feel like we're
- 1:26:38learning a lot as huge
- 1:26:40mistakes are happening.
- 1:26:43And obviously the worst of
- 1:26:44them all happen at the games.
- 1:26:48And it's just hard to know
- 1:26:49what could happen with the PFA.
- 1:26:51Even, even if they do look at the safety,
- 1:26:53they may not think of
- 1:26:54everything that could possibly happen.
- 1:26:57And then it's like, Oh,
- 1:26:58well, you signed your name on this.
- 1:27:01This was safe.
- 1:27:02Why didn't you think about this?
- 1:27:03And it is difficult, right?
- 1:27:06Like,
- 1:27:06I don't think that we're all experts
- 1:27:08in this.
- 1:27:09I don't know who's an expert
- 1:27:10on the PFAA that
- 1:27:12can look at the safety of
- 1:27:13everything and predict
- 1:27:14everything that could happen.
- 1:27:16Like it's just, it's tough.
- 1:27:18Um, and some things,
- 1:27:19some things just happen in sports too,
- 1:27:21but it's, if I'm,
- 1:27:22if I'm an elite athlete now
- 1:27:24and I've got the,
- 1:27:25the professional
- 1:27:26organization representing
- 1:27:27me saying that we have,
- 1:27:29we feel this is safe because we,
- 1:27:31the PFA have looked over
- 1:27:33the workouts for what a
- 1:27:34blues of SoCal and it's all good.
- 1:27:37And they didn't,
- 1:27:38they didn't consult me or
- 1:27:40give me any say in that.
- 1:27:42Like I,
- 1:27:44that gets sticky and it's going to
- 1:27:45get sticky, stickier.
- 1:27:47The more they become
- 1:27:48involved without a better
- 1:27:51definition of who they are.
- 1:27:57And like things,
- 1:27:58the movements and stuff can
- 1:27:59be safe in CrossFit.
- 1:28:00Like in, in the case of Lazar, it was,
- 1:28:03it's the,
- 1:28:04lack of response, right?
- 1:28:06It would be equivalent of like,
- 1:28:07let's say Cara in 2020 or
- 1:28:102015 at the games, you know,
- 1:28:12she's at the finish line
- 1:28:13and we see her struggling
- 1:28:15and we don't attend to her
- 1:28:16until after the event.
- 1:28:18And now we're going to
- 1:28:18attend to her and it's too late.
- 1:28:19Like that,
- 1:28:20that's kind of like almost what
- 1:28:21happened versus like the movements,
- 1:28:23the swimming was not unsafe
- 1:28:25or the movement of a snatch
- 1:28:26is not unsafe.
- 1:28:27It's like,
- 1:28:28it's the waiting of the response
- 1:28:29that went horribly wrong in,
- 1:28:31in the case of, um,
- 1:28:34what happened just the lack
- 1:28:34of response right to get to
- 1:28:36that point so well it's
- 1:28:38it's the approval of the
- 1:28:39safety plan I guess that's
- 1:28:42that's where it would come
- 1:28:43down to and I think a lot a
- 1:28:45lot of the safety like the
- 1:28:46medical people are scared
- 1:28:47sometimes to intervene um
- 1:28:50in the middle of a
- 1:28:50competition right like
- 1:28:52we've been told don't if
- 1:28:53you touch the board you're
- 1:28:54disqualified like you're
- 1:28:55basically taking a minimum
- 1:28:56work requirement so like
- 1:28:57sometimes the people don't
- 1:28:58want to interfere or
- 1:29:00touch the athlete in fear
- 1:29:02that you could be
- 1:29:03disqualifying someone's season.
- 1:29:04Right.
- 1:29:04So it's that mentality that
- 1:29:06we've had for years.
- 1:29:07It's like the one girl with
- 1:29:09her knee where it's like,
- 1:29:10you're told as a medical
- 1:29:12sometimes to not even go on the floor and,
- 1:29:15and help until the event is over.
- 1:29:18Like, it's just,
- 1:29:19I think there needs to be
- 1:29:20better communication with
- 1:29:22the medical and having the
- 1:29:24safety of the athlete prior
- 1:29:27first before the race.
- 1:29:30So the Rebecca Biddison
- 1:29:31thing is very different
- 1:29:32because that was the
- 1:29:34facility's medical team,
- 1:29:35not CrossFit's medical team
- 1:29:37because of the rules of France.
- 1:29:40I have been there and
- 1:29:41watched the medical team drill.
- 1:29:44Like they have hand signals
- 1:29:46and they are really fast if
- 1:29:48it's the CrossFit team.
- 1:29:49And that team is like they
- 1:29:51are first responders, doctors,
- 1:29:54high level people in the
- 1:29:56medical field that are doing that.
- 1:29:59I want to talk about something Lynn said,
- 1:30:01which is she disagrees with
- 1:30:03me that they don't need to
- 1:30:05go for more athletes and such.
- 1:30:07The issue is, is me as a professional,
- 1:30:09when I joined the
- 1:30:10professional association for my work,
- 1:30:13I pay dues because I want
- 1:30:14them to represent me.
- 1:30:16But I also get voting rights
- 1:30:18with those dues.
- 1:30:19I get voting rights into what they say,
- 1:30:22what our bylaws say,
- 1:30:23what we can and cannot do.
- 1:30:26If the PFAA is skipping that step,
- 1:30:28then it's going to hurt
- 1:30:30them in the long run.
- 1:30:32And again, I want them to exist.
- 1:30:34I want the athletes to have a voice.
- 1:30:37I just don't want them to
- 1:30:38skip the necessary step to
- 1:30:41actually be a professional association.
- 1:30:48When you are part of a
- 1:30:49professional association,
- 1:30:50you are paying dues for a
- 1:30:53set list of things, for your protection,
- 1:30:56for your education,
- 1:30:58and with that comes voting
- 1:31:01rights on all of that.
- 1:31:06Can I address this message
- 1:31:08here from Larry that says,
- 1:31:10I'll read it for the people
- 1:31:11that listen versus watching.
- 1:31:13This was the 18th year of
- 1:31:14the CrossFit Games.
- 1:31:14Everyone says it's still a new sport.
- 1:31:16Sure, I agree.
- 1:31:17But when are we expecting it to mature?
- 1:31:19Just wondering.
- 1:31:20It's hard because our sport
- 1:31:21is unknown and unknowable
- 1:31:22and things are constantly
- 1:31:23getting added and it's
- 1:31:25different combinations of movements.
- 1:31:27And I just like because
- 1:31:28there's just different
- 1:31:30workouts all the time.
- 1:31:32it's always new.
- 1:31:33It's always something new
- 1:31:34that you're seeing.
- 1:31:34That's part of our sport.
- 1:31:37It's hard to mature.
- 1:31:39We have learned in some instances,
- 1:31:41but then sometimes you
- 1:31:42don't foresee a certain
- 1:31:44piece of equipment doing
- 1:31:45something in another way.
- 1:31:48I don't know.
- 1:31:49Do you agree with that?
- 1:31:51I get what you're saying.
- 1:31:51It's almost like a new sport every year.
- 1:31:53It's a new program.
- 1:31:56It's whatever we think is
- 1:31:57the fittest on earth based
- 1:31:58on this program.
- 1:31:59From that year, sometimes it skews one way,
- 1:32:02skews another.
- 1:32:02Our sport's constantly changing.
- 1:32:05I think we've all been
- 1:32:06saying that we want it to
- 1:32:07be more consistent of a sport,
- 1:32:09that we know the rules from
- 1:32:10year over year,
- 1:32:11that we stick with the same
- 1:32:13qualification process to
- 1:32:14get to the CrossFit Games.
- 1:32:16These are things we've been asking for,
- 1:32:18but they keep changing
- 1:32:19because leadership changes.
- 1:32:21And because of that,
- 1:32:22we have not been given the
- 1:32:23opportunity to mature.
- 1:32:24And we will not mature until
- 1:32:26we can get a season
- 1:32:29structure settled and
- 1:32:30agreed upon and move forward.
- 1:32:33And we can't learn about the
- 1:32:34safety of a movement
- 1:32:35because we can't ask about
- 1:32:36the workout and what's
- 1:32:37going to be programmed
- 1:32:38because we're an athlete
- 1:32:39and we're not supposed to
- 1:32:40get any leaks anymore.
- 1:32:43Right,
- 1:32:43and that's where you need to have a
- 1:32:48safety commission.
- 1:32:51The NFL has a rules
- 1:32:53committee that look at the
- 1:32:56safety of things,
- 1:32:56and they change the rules
- 1:32:58every year based on that.
- 1:33:00Now,
- 1:33:00they don't do like we're changing it
- 1:33:02from a 17-game season to a
- 1:33:0432-game season.
- 1:33:06They don't go way out of whack.
- 1:33:08It's tweaking and modifying
- 1:33:09things so everything becomes safer.
- 1:33:12We basically need a sports
- 1:33:13manual is what we talked
- 1:33:15about this in our group
- 1:33:17chat is it's like these are
- 1:33:18the movements for the year.
- 1:33:19This is the standard for the
- 1:33:21movement when it's in competition.
- 1:33:23And if certain things are
- 1:33:25like are in different classes,
- 1:33:26like lower risk, higher risk,
- 1:33:28these are the higher risk movements.
- 1:33:30These are the safety protocols.
- 1:33:31protocols that you have to
- 1:33:32follow if you want to
- 1:33:33program this in your
- 1:33:34competition and it's
- 1:33:35universal and if that
- 1:33:36movement's not in that
- 1:33:37manual or whatever for the
- 1:33:39year you have to wait until
- 1:33:40it you know it appears and
- 1:33:42we get to see it the
- 1:33:44following year after it's
- 1:33:46gone explain and there's
- 1:33:47videos on it and but some
- 1:33:49sort of manual like that
- 1:33:50where it's there's some
- 1:33:51sort of consistency and I
- 1:33:53know that Brent worked on
- 1:33:54like a movement list and
- 1:33:57all of that so that plus
- 1:33:59the safety of it and then
- 1:34:01those are the movements you
- 1:34:02can draw from for that year.
- 1:34:03And it just becomes a little
- 1:34:07bit more consistent.
- 1:34:08Like you can still have
- 1:34:08varied movements and workouts,
- 1:34:13but at least there's a
- 1:34:14little bit more of
- 1:34:15consistency between events.
- 1:34:17But again, some people will be like, well,
- 1:34:19then you're the variance of
- 1:34:21the movement is an adaptability.
- 1:34:23You have to be able to adapt
- 1:34:24to the movements.
- 1:34:25And if you only practice one standard,
- 1:34:27you don't, you know, you're not,
- 1:34:28you're not getting fitter
- 1:34:29because you're not,
- 1:34:31adapting constantly.
- 1:34:32So I don't know what the solution is.
- 1:34:33But if I were king for a day
- 1:34:35and I was the head of the PFAA,
- 1:34:38I would want dues so that I
- 1:34:40could hire somebody to write that manual.
- 1:34:42It shouldn't be Brent who's
- 1:34:43training all year and has
- 1:34:45no time on his hands.
- 1:34:46They should collect dues
- 1:34:48from the athletes who want
- 1:34:49to be a part of it,
- 1:34:50who want representation,
- 1:34:51and then hire someone out
- 1:34:52to write that manual and
- 1:34:54then approve it once it comes back,
- 1:34:56right?
- 1:34:57Your voting members then
- 1:34:58approve all these things.
- 1:35:01That's how it should work.
- 1:35:03The problem is Brent's
- 1:35:04trying to do everything by
- 1:35:05himself because they're
- 1:35:06doing it on the cheap and they're not,
- 1:35:08they are not formed as an
- 1:35:10official association with
- 1:35:12dues and board members and
- 1:35:14elections and all the
- 1:35:15things that come with that.
- 1:35:20And with that,
- 1:35:21that's enough for tonight on that.
- 1:35:23Well,
- 1:35:23I'm sure we'll keep talking about
- 1:35:25that this entire freaking off season.
- 1:35:28Um,
- 1:35:30Julian Iford says,
- 1:35:31did you guys see the TTT podcast?
- 1:35:33Very informative.
- 1:35:34I did.
- 1:35:35I thought it was the closest
- 1:35:37representation to what I
- 1:35:38felt during the weekend of
- 1:35:39any podcast I watched.
- 1:35:41Yeah, I wondered how you felt about that.
- 1:35:44They literally, it felt,
- 1:35:47the way they explained it
- 1:35:48for themselves is how I
- 1:35:49felt that weekend.
- 1:35:51And so I really did enjoy that.
- 1:35:54I thought they did an amazing job.
- 1:35:55Is that the two hour one?
- 1:35:59It's Max and Perrin and Travis,
- 1:36:05who are three different
- 1:36:06people getting three
- 1:36:07different messages the entire weekend.
- 1:36:10I haven't listened to it.
- 1:36:12I'll have to take a listen.
- 1:36:14It's insane.
- 1:36:15The other recommendation I'll have is,
- 1:36:18if you have not watched
- 1:36:19Bethany Flores' account of the games,
- 1:36:22parts one and two,
- 1:36:24some of the most beautiful...
- 1:36:26content I've seen in years.
- 1:36:29And being a Christian,
- 1:36:31I really took hold of a lot of that.
- 1:36:33And it helped me get over a
- 1:36:35lot of what happened on the weekend.
- 1:36:37And so thank you, Bethany,
- 1:36:38for putting that together
- 1:36:40because it's helped me move
- 1:36:41on a little bit.
- 1:36:43And speaking of moving on,
- 1:36:45we have the Masters
- 1:36:46CrossFit Games this weekend,
- 1:36:47the first big major event
- 1:36:48since the tragedy.
- 1:36:50And I'm really hoping that
- 1:36:53the CrossFit community
- 1:36:54comes out for these Masters athletes.
- 1:36:56It's a live stream.
- 1:36:57It's something you can watch and enjoy.
- 1:36:59These athletes are what CrossFit's about.
- 1:37:03It's fighting off decrepitude.
- 1:37:05It's fighting off old age.
- 1:37:06These people are flipping age on its head,
