- 0:00I'm Julia and you're listening to the spread know my podcast,

- 0:07and freedom. You can find the video version
- 0:10of this podcast and many more on the spur of the moment YouTube
- 0:13channel. Now, let's get into the episode.
- 0:19I have eight really weird things.
- 0:22I want to tell you today that Swedish people do but that are
- 0:26surprisingly spiritual and I noticed these things when I
- 0:30moved from my home country. Sweden, I'm in the UK now.
- 0:35And I don't really understand why other countries don't do
- 0:38this. All these eight things will make
- 0:41your life so much more, happy easy and peaceful.
- 0:45So let's get into the list. The first Good thing that
- 0:50Swedish people do is Countryside getaways, so most Swedish people
- 0:57will have a summer cabin or they want to rent a summer cabin
- 1:01during the weekend to have another environment that is
- 1:06stressfully where they can get a tech detox and just be in
- 1:09nature. Which I think it's so important
- 1:12especially if you live in a city.
- 1:14The second weird thing that Swedish people do is allowed us,
- 1:18go with it. Which means Saturday candy and
- 1:24that means that every Saturday you have candy.
- 1:28So you reserve your sugar day for Saturday and it really helps
- 1:33Lee the rest of the week but on Saturday, you really get to
- 1:37indulge. So when I grew up every Saturday
- 1:42evening, my dad would come out with his silver.
- 1:44Tray of, literally, like a mountain of candy.
- 1:48Sweet. And actually eats the most candy
- 1:51in the whole world, but they are also one of the healthiest
- 1:55fittest people in the world study suggests that eating one,
- 1:59large portion of sugar, each week was less damaging to our
- 2:02teeth and health than a small amount everyday.
- 2:05And even when it comes to weight loss, there's also studies
- 2:08around this. I read a book called the
- 2:11Buddhist diet, which you might think we'll the Buddha.
- 2:14He had some belly fat, right? But they famous better than we
- 2:18see with the Stomach is actually another burden of the Buddha
- 2:21thinking of their several different with us in the study,
- 2:24they mentioned in this book is that even if you want to lose
- 2:28weight you want to have one day a week where you you completely
- 2:32exceed your calories because otherwise your body will go into
- 2:35starvation mode and hold on to the fat.
- 2:39And this also reminds me of a video I saw by the poet prints.
- 2:42Are he was talking about a woman on her deathbed and she was
- 2:47saying, I wished I had eaten More ice cream and less beans.
- 2:53And that made me think. Because like, we're so obsessed
- 2:55with health and looking good, having a flat stomach and like,
- 3:00all these things, but sometimes we just got to live as well and
- 3:03just enjoy our time on Earth. So, I think this is where you
- 3:07healthier to just have one occasion per week where you
- 3:11really eundel judge and had that be A celebratory occasion rather
- 3:16than every time you feeling a bit low and Pressed you go out
- 3:20and you stuff yourself with some junk food and then you just feel
- 3:24crap afterwards and wish you had never done it.
- 3:27Number three is a young, the log n or the law of young there and
- 3:32it basically mean it's like a mentality.
- 3:35Swedish people have that they are not better than other
- 3:39people. So yeah, Swedish people are very
- 3:41humble and I this really resonates with me because I feel
- 3:44like especially on the spiritual path.
- 3:47Many people will actually pick up more ego than they had before
- 3:51the spiritual awakening because they feel Superior to other
- 3:55people who haven't gone through a spiritual awakening, the guru
- 3:58complex. But we have to all remember is
- 4:00that we are all Sparks of God. So we are equal.
- 4:04The fourth, weird thing that Swedish people do is having
- 4:08separate duvets. Oh, this will really help you
- 4:12with getting more sleep. If you're sleeping with a
- 4:14partner because there will be no like, tug of war during sleep
- 4:18where someone takes Of the the debate in the other and it's so
- 4:22much more easier to snuggle up like with the with a duvet.
- 4:26I like to have it in between my knees to to support my back.
- 4:31So to me, oh my gosh, I don't know how you do it when you
- 4:34share one, I can't do it. The fifth weird thing that
- 4:37Swedish people do is fika which you might have heard which is
- 4:42like a coffee break where you have a coffee or tea and then
- 4:46usually maybe something sweet with.
- 4:48This is why like A cinnamon bun and you connect with friends or
- 4:53family or colleagues. And in Sweden, we take this very
- 4:58seriously and it's also happens during work, and it's really
- 5:02important. You cannot take away their fika
- 5:05break from the Swedish person because they will be very angry.
- 5:09And I think the reason why I love this one so much.
- 5:11It's, again, with the deathbed connection that made people say
- 5:15it on their deathbed, like it was all about the connections,
- 5:18they make the relationship, Should people they loved and if
- 5:22we, if we could break means like you taking a break from work to
- 5:25connect and just be present. And if you've read that your
- 5:29tallest book, The Power of Now, You know how powerful it is to
- 5:33repress it. And that's all we really have is
- 5:35the present moment. So, being present with your
- 5:39friends or colleagues, just having a nice coffee and
- 5:42enjoying each other's company. I think it's so underrated, but
- 5:46I highly approve of doing that several times a day.
- 5:48Which we Swedish People do this six weird thing, that's which
- 5:51people do is that we are rarely go out to eat at restaurants or
- 5:56takeaways. We grew up having meals, Cooked
- 6:01our from scratch like we don't even say from scratch.
- 6:04We always assume it is from scratch because we don't really
- 6:07have like different cake, mixes Pizza, mixes and stuff.
- 6:11Everything is done from scratch and we prefer eating at home,
- 6:15which saves you money and it's so much more healthy because it
- 6:19Be processed foods like loss of even numbers and different
- 6:22additives. And when food is pure like this,
- 6:25when you make it from scratch, the food has more Prana or life
- 6:29with energy and it's so it's so much more healthy for you.
- 6:32Number 7 is showing Respect by being punctual and queuing so
- 6:40it's quite funny. So if I am like one minute late
- 6:44to a meeting meeting, a friend, zoomy thing, whatever it is.
- 6:49If I'm one minute late, I'm like oh my gosh, I am being so
- 6:53disrespectful, I need to hurry, but I actually like this about
- 6:58Swedish people that we try to be on time like 10 minutes,
- 7:02arrived, 10 minutes before the time or like worst-case exactly
- 7:05on time because it's just respect for the other person.
- 7:09Because then, you know, exactly? When they will calm my, you
- 7:12don't have to, like, look at your clock.
- 7:13And be like, okay, sit half an hour now, are they coming or
- 7:15they not? It's I think it's like, basic
- 7:17respect and same with. Cueing.
- 7:19If you got there first, I think you deserve to be first because
- 7:25in many countries I feel it's like a Sharky Shark world.
- 7:29The words to slide the most loudest.
- 7:32Most disrespectful person is the one who goes first because they
- 7:35just, you know, elbow they weigh in front of the queue which I
- 7:40feel is disrespectful. So, yeah, Kinesiology and
- 7:44queuing. I think this is some really good
- 7:45values as which people have. And number eight is Silence.
- 7:51Yes, of Swedish people. They really value silence.
- 7:55If you've ever talked to Swedish person, you might be surprised
- 7:58by how quiet they are. Probably the most quiet of any
- 8:03people in the world. If I got a cent for every person
- 8:06who said, why are you so quiet? I would be a millionaire by now.
- 8:11And many people think this is really annoying with Swedish
- 8:14people, especially if they come from a very extroverted culture.
- 8:19But I actually really like this because there is so much value
- 8:23in silence. You get to really take in your
- 8:26environment, enjoy the present moment.
- 8:30So Swedish people will basically only talk when they have
- 8:33something important to say and not just to fill the Gap and if
- 8:37you look at enlightened Masters, you will see that they only
- 8:41speak when they have. Yeah, something that's important
- 8:44to say and does that mean that all Swedish people are
- 8:46enlightened. Yes.
- 8:49Now, I'm kidding but I do think there is a value in silence and
- 8:52you don't have to fill the Gap. Every time you you are with
- 8:55someone just enjoy the present moment and it doesn't have to be
- 8:59awkward, just embrace it. Let's continue the discussion in
