- 0:16Speaker 1: Welcome into jag zam kind Annie Stevens. Here is Brian
- 0:18Speaker 1: Sexton and John Oser. It's the adult drums of March.
- 0:21Speaker 1: But we're gonna look ahead a little bit to the
- 0:22Speaker 1: draft and tell you what's been going on with the
- 0:24Speaker 1: Jaguars right now during the off season.
- 0:27Speaker 2: We'll start off with big things. Big thing number one
- 0:29Speaker 2: is a no go.
- 0:30Speaker 1: After free agency when there was limited moves, we did
- 0:32Speaker 1: see the Jaguars try to make a pickup with a
- 0:35Speaker 1: special teams player from the Seattle Seahawks, take Bobo, but
- 0:39Speaker 1: their offer was matched by the Seahawks, so he's gonna
- 0:41Speaker 1: be staying in Seattle and Brian without a ton of additions.
- 0:44Speaker 2: That was someone they kind of went after. They really
- 0:46Speaker 2: wanted him.
- 0:47Speaker 1: Because he's a special teams ace and he's really tough
- 0:49Speaker 1: and committee for that position.
- 0:51Speaker 3: And is a capable fifth receiver. He is a really
- 0:53Speaker 3: good player.
- 0:53Speaker 4: I mean, look John out Quickly, the Seattle Seahawks jumped
- 0:57Speaker 4: to match that the Jaguars wanted him. They were patient
- 1:00Speaker 4: and waiting for things to settle down to make their offer,
- 1:03Speaker 4: but it didn't take Seattle. On the eve of signing
- 1:06Speaker 4: Jackson Smith and Jigbook to the biggest wide receiver contract
- 1:10Speaker 4: in league history. It took them almost no time to
- 1:12Speaker 4: make their decision about what they wanted.
- 1:14Speaker 5: Yeah, I thought the t's on, this is gonna be
- 1:17Speaker 5: no go Bobo, no Bobobo.
- 1:19Speaker 6: But they did really like him.
- 1:23Speaker 5: And I think it speaks to how the Jaguars are
- 1:25Speaker 5: going about free agency and that they're they're shopping for
- 1:28Speaker 5: things they want and when they don't if they don't
- 1:32Speaker 5: get those things, they're not going Willie and Nelly and Okay,
- 1:36Speaker 5: I didn't get this cool thing, Now I'm gonna get
- 1:38Speaker 5: the next cool thing.
- 1:40Speaker 6: They wanted this guy.
- 1:41Speaker 5: I don't necessarily think that it means they're going to
- 1:44Speaker 5: switch off to the quote next free agent or who
- 1:48Speaker 5: also play special teams. This was a very specific need
- 1:52Speaker 5: and I think they'll continue to look for the right
- 1:54Speaker 5: way to fill that need.
- 1:55Speaker 4: And Liam Cohen talked about this guy, not Mike or
- 1:59Speaker 4: Bobo specifically, but he talked about having that fifth receiver
- 2:03Speaker 4: caui last year during training camp, the bigger guy that
- 2:06Speaker 4: could contribute on special.
- 2:08Speaker 3: Teams in a meaningful way.
- 2:10Speaker 4: And they went They traded for Tim Patrick right before
- 2:12Speaker 4: the season began, and then they went looking hunting for
- 2:15Speaker 4: this guy, which goes to tell you, John that finding
- 2:18Speaker 4: this guy, a bigger receiver special team's ace is not
- 2:21Speaker 4: an easy guy to find. Y.
- 2:22Speaker 5: This guy's a little bit of a younger Tim Patrick
- 2:24Speaker 5: and with less tread on the tires.
- 2:26Speaker 6: So we'll see what happens on that front.
- 2:28Speaker 1: We will or second, big things are they going to
- 2:30Speaker 1: be Let's make a deal. Now, they didn't make a
- 2:32Speaker 1: ton of big free agency signings or only one actually,
- 2:36Speaker 1: but they are trying to re sign some of their
- 2:37Speaker 1: own guys.
- 2:38Speaker 2: Now this is the time of the.
- 2:39Speaker 1: Year when they can focus a little bit on that. Obviously,
- 2:42Speaker 1: some people are going to be coming up in their
- 2:44Speaker 1: final year of their contracts. Other people they're trying to
- 2:46Speaker 1: get ahead of it with them. How much of that
- 2:48Speaker 1: is a focus for them right now? Also with the
- 2:50Speaker 1: draft coming up, John, But they are working on these deals.
- 2:53Speaker 5: Well, I think it's a focus and it's a long
- 2:56Speaker 5: term focus. Parker Washing, Brenton Strange and Trayvon Walker are
- 3:02Speaker 5: the three. To me, my understanding is those are the three.
- 3:05Speaker 5: They want to figure out a way to try to
- 3:07Speaker 5: get those guys done. And if you think about it,
- 3:10Speaker 5: all three really reliable, really tough players, guys who fit.
- 3:16Speaker 5: It's gonna be hard to get all three done within
- 3:19Speaker 5: a year. I think it's very doable. When I say.
- 3:22Speaker 6: Hard, you've really got to make the numbers work.
- 3:24Speaker 5: You have to make the player understand where it meets
- 3:30Speaker 5: the situation, where it makes sense for the team, and
- 3:33Speaker 5: those conversations can be hard when you're trying to do
- 3:35Speaker 5: the cap right. But I also think the relationship with
- 3:37Speaker 5: all three of those guys my senses. All three of
- 3:40Speaker 5: those guys want to be here, they like what's going on.
- 3:43Speaker 5: The team considers them long term building blocks, and now
- 3:46Speaker 5: you've just got to figure out a way to cement
- 3:47Speaker 5: the building blocks into place right.
- 3:49Speaker 6: You know.
- 3:49Speaker 4: The hard part, John, is is that the contract. Parker
- 3:52Speaker 4: Washington as an example, Smith and jigg but got this
- 3:55Speaker 4: deal with one hundred and sixty million dollars guaranteed, and
- 3:58Speaker 4: I think the average per year is upward of forty
- 4:01Speaker 4: million dollars. Now, he had an amazing season and pukin
- 4:05Speaker 4: Akua is coming right behind him.
- 4:07Speaker 3: So Parker was your number one guy last year.
- 4:09Speaker 4: Fifty eight catches led the team, ninety five targets led
- 4:12Speaker 4: the team, and under forty seven yards led the team.
- 4:15Speaker 4: Five receiving touchdowns led your team fourteen point six yards
- 4:20Speaker 4: per catch average was three point six inches, less than
- 4:23Speaker 4: four inches away from leading the team. Brian Thomas was
- 4:26Speaker 4: fourteen point seven.
- 4:27Speaker 3: So how do you pay that?
- 4:28Speaker 4: I mean, how do you keep up with a guy
- 4:30Speaker 4: who is a solid contributor, maybe your best overall receiver,
- 4:34Speaker 4: certainly the guy that made the biggest plays for you.
- 4:37Speaker 4: But that's not that's not forty million dollars a year.
- 4:39Speaker 4: That's not what pookin Akua is going to get. So
- 4:41Speaker 4: as you start thinking reasonably about this is what he
- 4:44Speaker 4: means to us, and how do we carve out a
- 4:46Speaker 4: future and being able to sign Brenton Strange who you mentioned,
- 4:49Speaker 4: and Trayvon Walker who you mentioned, and Anton Harris who's
- 4:52Speaker 4: coming up not long behind that.
- 4:55Speaker 3: You got it. There's a lot of moving parts. It's
- 4:57Speaker 3: a very complicated negotiation.
- 4:59Speaker 5: Yeah, they have some mechan ms KAI with Antonon, meaning
- 5:02Speaker 5: they had the fifty year option potential franchise tag, which
- 5:05Speaker 5: you see at that position sometimes when they need to
- 5:07Speaker 5: extend time. But I think with Parker Washington, the key
- 5:12Speaker 5: is they keep speaking about this receiver position as sort
- 5:16Speaker 5: of three complimentary pieces.
- 5:18Speaker 6: None of them were over a thousand yards last year.
- 5:21Speaker 5: That's how ideally you would pay the guys as part
- 5:24Speaker 5: of a puzzle. Guys don't always want to be paid
- 5:27Speaker 5: as part of a puzzle, so that's the rub.
- 5:29Speaker 4: One other factor also is is that you paid Jakobe Myers,
- 5:32Speaker 4: who you traded for last year K twenty million dollars.
- 5:35Speaker 4: He is the highest paid receiver on your team. He's
- 5:38Speaker 4: only twenty third overall in the NFL, and I would
- 5:42Speaker 4: imagine that if you pay him twenty million dollars a year,
- 5:44Speaker 4: you're expecting him to graduate into that number one guy
- 5:47Speaker 4: role for them next year. So it's a fascinating conversation
- 5:51Speaker 4: as you start to look forward with where this team
- 5:54Speaker 4: is and where they wanted to get to.
- 5:55Speaker 1: Yep, something to keep an eye on, especially as the
- 5:57Speaker 1: off season end, potentially the season comes along.
- 6:00Speaker 2: Our final big thing today is going to be on location.
- 6:02Speaker 2: We're looking ahead.
- 6:02Speaker 1: The owners' meetings are taking place next week. The stadium
- 6:05Speaker 1: construction well underway here in Jacksonville, but they're going to
- 6:08Speaker 1: be voting the owners are on where the team will
- 6:11Speaker 1: play there away.
- 6:12Speaker 2: Game their home games.
- 6:13Speaker 1: Excues me next season when the stadium is being renovated. Now,
- 6:17Speaker 1: obviously they have one more season here in Jacksonville, Brian,
- 6:19Speaker 1: but it's between Jainesville and Orlando. It's going to officially
- 6:22Speaker 1: come out, hopefully by this time when the show's on
- 6:24Speaker 1: next week, will have a location.
- 6:25Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 6:26Speaker 4: I had speaking engagement in Orlando last week and a
- 6:28Speaker 4: lot of people wanted to talk about that. There is
- 6:30Speaker 4: a strong assumption on the part of people in the
- 6:32Speaker 4: business community down there that that's where it's headed. But
- 6:35Speaker 4: we haven't heard anything from the league, and there's a
- 6:37Speaker 4: level of interest and excitement about what Central Florida might
- 6:41Speaker 4: be for the Jaguars going forward. It's not the most
- 6:45Speaker 4: pressing issue in terms of football, which is what we
- 6:47Speaker 4: talk about a lot on this show. The stadium, obviously,
- 6:50Speaker 4: you know going on right behind us is under full construction,
- 6:53Speaker 4: So it's a question and a concern because people want
- 6:56Speaker 4: to know where they're going to sit in twenty twenty seven.
- 6:59Speaker 4: The Jaguars have played time to get this one done,
- 7:01Speaker 4: but there's a lot of interest in Central Florida, I
- 7:02Speaker 4: can tell your first hand.
- 7:03Speaker 6: Yeah, all the buzz seems to be Orlando.
- 7:06Speaker 5: But the reason there's a vote and the reason they
- 7:09Speaker 5: don't make things official off buzz is that votes make
- 7:13Speaker 5: things official, so we'll see next week.
- 7:15Speaker 2: Officials officially official. Next week, we'll check in and see
- 7:19Speaker 2: what it's going to be.
- 7:20Speaker 1: Next week on Jagson, we'll hopefully have the latest for
- 7:22Speaker 1: you then a little later on in the show. Today,
- 7:24Speaker 1: stay with us, We're going to check in with some
- 7:25Speaker 1: of your players in the off season, see what they're
- 7:27Speaker 1: getting up to. We check in little Laquinn Allen. Welcome, man,
- 7:36Speaker 1: I'm kind downy Stephen Jaguars team reporter checking in with
- 7:38Speaker 1: your favorite Jaguars players to see what they're getting up
- 7:41Speaker 1: to in the off season. And first off is going to,
- 7:44Speaker 1: of course be running back with Quinn Allen.
- 7:46Speaker 6: You finish up.
- 7:47Speaker 1: Finally your rookie year's over, so I imagine the first
- 7:50Speaker 1: time you have been playing football in a while, right,
- 7:52Speaker 1: So does it feel a little weird?
- 7:54Speaker 7: It definitely feels a little bit of weird. But I've
- 7:57Speaker 7: been training, you know, I'm ready to get back. I
- 7:58Speaker 7: can't wait till you get back.
- 8:00Speaker 1: So what are you up to right now?
- 8:01Speaker 2: What's what's the training deal?
- 8:03Speaker 4: And where are you?
- 8:04Speaker 7: I'm training at Arizona Exles, you know, just perfecting my craft,
- 8:08Speaker 7: you know, so I can take it to the next level.
- 8:10Speaker 8: You know, we hit the field and we lift every day.
- 8:12Speaker 7: And you know we have a like training staff in
- 8:16Speaker 7: there and get pet whatever, you know, hurting, and you know,
- 8:19Speaker 7: just keep your body, you know, up to date, you know,
- 8:21Speaker 7: in shape.
- 8:22Speaker 1: Definitely absolutely rookie years behind. You now have that little
- 8:27Speaker 1: bit of experience. What was the biggest I don't know
- 8:29Speaker 1: if it's shock or surprise. What was the biggest like
- 8:32Speaker 1: change for you going pro?
- 8:34Speaker 9: I would say just just like a day to day basis,
- 8:39Speaker 9: just knowing like your body is, knowing like how to
- 8:42Speaker 9: keep your body, you know, at the highest level and
- 8:45Speaker 9: perform at the highest level every day because you know
- 8:47Speaker 9: it's a long season.
- 8:49Speaker 7: Even before the season starts, you know, camp and all
- 8:51Speaker 7: of that. But you know, other than that, once you
- 8:53Speaker 7: realize that, you know, it's smooth.
- 8:57Speaker 2: Some changes in your room.
- 8:58Speaker 1: Obviously, Traves etn go back home. He signed with the Saints.
- 9:01Speaker 2: But now you have a.
- 9:03Speaker 1: New guy and sea Rod coming into town. I don't
- 9:05Speaker 1: know if you're familiar with this game or not, but
- 9:07Speaker 1: is it kind of exciting to have a new face
- 9:08Speaker 1: in there now?
- 9:09Speaker 2: For sure?
- 9:10Speaker 7: I can't wait to meet him, you know, I can't
- 9:11Speaker 7: wait to learn a few things with them.
- 9:13Speaker 8: The season's gonna be great. I can't wait to get
- 9:15Speaker 8: after it.
- 9:17Speaker 1: I did want to ask you a follow on social media,
- 9:19Speaker 1: of course, and I saw you on Twitter show a photo.
- 9:22Speaker 1: It looks like it's AI, but it's from twenty twenty,
- 9:24Speaker 1: so tell me a little bit.
- 9:25Speaker 2: Where did that photo come from?
- 9:27Speaker 7: So I was getting recruited to Syracuse and twenty twenty
- 9:30Speaker 7: was COVID and Syracuse wanted me to commit there.
- 9:33Speaker 8: I actually did commit my junior year.
- 9:35Speaker 7: It was COVID and they sent me a vision board
- 9:37Speaker 7: of me being drafted and it was actually to the Jaguars.
- 9:41Speaker 7: And it's kind of crazy, you know, a few for
- 9:43Speaker 7: years down the road, you know, I went to Syracuse
- 9:45Speaker 7: and actually got drafted by the Jaguars.
- 9:47Speaker 1: So it's crazy your vision board came true.
- 9:51Speaker 8: Definitely, for sure. God is really got really a lot of.
- 9:55Speaker 1: A fans, you know, big fan of you when we
- 9:57Speaker 1: mike you up, of course, because you got you got
- 9:59Speaker 1: a lot to say when you're on the football field.
- 10:01Speaker 1: But one of the things that we love to watch
- 10:03Speaker 1: you do is pass protect for Trevor Lawrence. And I
- 10:06Speaker 1: know you like to take on the biggest guy on
- 10:08Speaker 1: the opposite team who was your favorite person that you
- 10:11Speaker 1: blocked last year?
- 10:13Speaker 8: My favorite person that I blocked last year?
- 10:17Speaker 7: I would say all of them, you know, I would
- 10:19Speaker 7: say all of them because you know, it wasn't easy.
- 10:23Speaker 8: It wasn't easy, and you know, just doing play in
- 10:25Speaker 8: and play out, you know, for the whole game.
- 10:27Speaker 7: That's all I would say. But I can't wait to
- 10:29Speaker 7: get back though, for sure.
- 10:31Speaker 1: Yeah, anybody that comes your way, I'm sure you're ready
- 10:33Speaker 1: for Oh yeah.
- 10:35Speaker 2: Well, wonderful.
- 10:36Speaker 1: Good luck with off season training and we'll see you
- 10:38Speaker 1: soon for O t A s.
- 10:39Speaker 8: Thank you.
- 10:40Speaker 2: That was our off season.
- 10:41Speaker 1: Checking with running back la Quinn Allen say with us here,
- 10:43Speaker 1: we'll be right back for jacks Am.
- 11:00Speaker 2: Welcome back to jag Zam.
- 11:01Speaker 1: Of course, we're gonna check in with doron oser ozone
- 11:04Speaker 1: mail bag questions.
- 11:05Speaker 2: Share your wisdom with us as you do every day
- 11:07Speaker 2: on the website.
- 11:10Speaker 3: I'll share it.
- 11:10Speaker 1: So definitely we're gonna start with a Scooter from Saint
- 11:14Speaker 1: Augustine says the roster looks pretty solid. Is this the
- 11:17Speaker 1: situation that leads to quote best players available for draft
- 11:21Speaker 1: picks or are they going to go with position players?
- 11:24Speaker 5: Well, it it's funny, Brian. We've been talking about this
- 11:27Speaker 5: for thirty years, the best available player need and uh,
- 11:32Speaker 5: it's never in a vacuum.
- 11:34Speaker 6: The best way to describe how this really.
- 11:36Speaker 5: Works is every GM would love ideally to always pick
- 11:41Speaker 5: best availament, so you wind up picking best available with
- 11:45Speaker 5: sort of a percentage of your need involved. So every
- 11:52Speaker 5: GM's goal during free agency is to enter the draft
- 11:56Speaker 5: looking at a big white board. It's probably not a
- 11:58Speaker 5: whiteboard anymore, it's probably AI, it's probably Robot and seeing
- 12:03Speaker 5: there to be a starter at every they say, can
- 12:06Speaker 5: we get lined up? And they can line up. They
- 12:08Speaker 5: can start a team right now, with the possible exception
- 12:12Speaker 5: of maybe outside linebacker, but they're okay there with Vintrel
- 12:14Speaker 5: Miller if he starts, they're finding good with that. Maybe
- 12:18Speaker 5: defensive tackle, but Eric Armstead, Devine Hamilton. You can start
- 12:21Speaker 5: there and feel good on opening Day. So yes, James
- 12:26Speaker 5: Gladstone said at his most recent availability that he likes
- 12:30Speaker 5: the fact that they're in a position to draft without
- 12:33Speaker 5: much regard to need. You always have a little bit
- 12:36Speaker 5: of that, but as much as you can, they're in
- 12:39Speaker 5: good shape to go.
- 12:41Speaker 6: Beap Listen.
- 12:42Speaker 4: The only I can add to this is that when
- 12:45Speaker 4: you have a James Gladstone who is running the show
- 12:49Speaker 4: as he is, you don't know what he's going to
- 12:51Speaker 4: necessarily do. I mean, people were stunned when he didn't
- 12:53Speaker 4: take his entire contingent to the combine in Indianapolis. They
- 12:58Speaker 4: do things asymmetrically to the rest of the league here,
- 13:01Speaker 4: I do think, and John talks about looking at the
- 13:04Speaker 4: entire picture, they're not always just looking at this year's draft.
- 13:08Speaker 4: They're looking at next year's.
- 13:09Speaker 3: They have an.
- 13:10Speaker 4: Idea of what they want, what they need where they
- 13:13Speaker 4: can get it, and maybe they have to wait on
- 13:15Speaker 4: some things till twenty twenty seven when the draft is
- 13:18Speaker 4: better at a position, whether it's receiver or corner or
- 13:20Speaker 4: left tackle or whatever they might be looking at. So
- 13:23Speaker 4: I'd love to tell you it's best available player, because
- 13:26Speaker 4: I think that's always the smartest decision. But James Gladstone
- 13:29Speaker 4: does things differently and it's worked out really well so
- 13:31Speaker 4: far for the Jaguars.
- 13:33Speaker 1: I think this year, specifically, without a first round pick,
- 13:35Speaker 1: you might end up doing something like that because we
- 13:37Speaker 1: don't really know what it's going to look like by
- 13:39Speaker 1: the time they get to their pick in the later rounds.
- 13:42Speaker 1: So something to keep an eye on for sure. Our
- 13:44Speaker 1: second question today is a little bit something we talked
- 13:46Speaker 1: about earlier, but Treyvon Walker. So John, regarding a potential
- 13:50Speaker 1: extension for Trayvon Walker, what does the actual negotiation process
- 13:53Speaker 1: look like during the season or the early offseason. I'm curious,
- 13:56Speaker 1: so they actively quote at the table right now or
- 13:59Speaker 1: is it.
- 13:59Speaker 6: Kind of Yeah?
- 14:01Speaker 5: Typically on something like this, it depends on the circumstance.
- 14:04Speaker 5: Sometimes it depends on how well the GM knows the
- 14:07Speaker 5: agent exactly.
- 14:08Speaker 6: How it looks.
- 14:10Speaker 5: But it's typically sort of as you would expect. Both
- 14:14Speaker 5: sides sort of have an idea of where numbers are
- 14:17Speaker 5: out there. The team usually makes an initial volley offer.
- 14:25Speaker 6: People.
- 14:26Speaker 5: I think my answer when I answered this on the
- 14:29Speaker 5: website was you get an offer, and then they go
- 14:32Speaker 5: back and they talk about it, and there's another offer back,
- 14:36Speaker 5: and the people who receive who are offered, they talk
- 14:39Speaker 5: about it. On something like Trayvon, it could go on.
- 14:43Speaker 5: I don't know if it started yet, but I'm assuming
- 14:45Speaker 5: that these machinations are starting to take place.
- 14:48Speaker 6: It could go on a few months.
- 14:49Speaker 5: Yeah, And there's nothing wrong with that because these are
- 14:52Speaker 5: three guys, meaning Trayvon, Brenton and Parker we've talked about,
- 14:56Speaker 5: there's really not a whole lot of rush, and I
- 14:58Speaker 5: would anticipate what you have is an amicable back and
- 15:01Speaker 5: forth of Okay, in a couple of weeks, Hey, we
- 15:04Speaker 5: get that offer, but here's what we're thinking. Gradually come
- 15:07Speaker 5: together with all the players, meaning Trayvon Brenton and Christian realized,
- 15:12Speaker 5: I mean.
- 15:13Speaker 6: Christian Parker who always considered.
- 15:17Speaker 5: Diector Christian Kirk junior, you know, realizing that it's taking
- 15:23Speaker 5: place and going in the right direction. I would anticipate
- 15:27Speaker 5: all these being a slow but as we all know,
- 15:30Speaker 5: usually what happens on stuff like this, there's talking, talk
- 15:33Speaker 5: and talk, and then a deadline all of a sudden
- 15:36Speaker 5: gets you at that table.
- 15:37Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 15:37Speaker 5: Nothing, deadlines makehap things happen.
- 15:39Speaker 4: Nothing really happens till the deadline. Ano the Jaguars, the
- 15:44Speaker 4: one place where maybe they put themselves in a weaker
- 15:46Speaker 4: negotiating position is when they started talking last year about
- 15:49Speaker 4: Daguars DNA John about the DNA of the locker room
- 15:52Speaker 4: and what they wanted because it was so clear this
- 15:54Speaker 4: guy's get and you it's not really a weaker negotiating position,
- 15:59Speaker 4: but you want him no matter what. This is a
- 16:03Speaker 4: guy that sets the tempo for your team because he's
- 16:06Speaker 4: so tough and he's so reliable. Last year he played
- 16:09Speaker 4: with the wrists and the knee. I had one player
- 16:11Speaker 4: tell me he thought Traybon was maybe forty forty five
- 16:13Speaker 4: percent and he was out there at the end of
- 16:15Speaker 4: the year making plays on fourth down, key plays.
- 16:18Speaker 3: This is a.
- 16:19Speaker 4: DNA guy, and I don't want to say you pay
- 16:21Speaker 4: him whatever it costs, but you're gonna pay him because
- 16:24Speaker 4: he's too important to your team.
- 16:25Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 16:26Speaker 5: Also, all three of these guys, I'm not meaning to
- 16:28Speaker 5: always bring Brenton and Parker back into it, but it
- 16:32Speaker 5: feels like these are ones that they're going to try
- 16:34Speaker 5: to get done. All three of them fit the profile
- 16:39Speaker 5: that gms want, meaning when you sign a guy to
- 16:43Speaker 5: that contract at a GM, tell me once when you
- 16:45Speaker 5: go home that night, you want to be able to
- 16:48Speaker 5: put your head on the pillow and not worry about it.
- 16:50Speaker 5: You don't want to be like in the side room
- 16:52Speaker 5: drinking scotch, going, oh.
- 16:53Speaker 6: Jeez, w do that.
- 16:55Speaker 5: So all three of these guys are guys that when
- 16:58Speaker 5: you sign him, there's no guarant he's in life. But
- 17:01Speaker 5: it's hard to picture Parker Washington Trayvon Walker, Brittain Strange
- 17:05Speaker 5: not working even after they get paid to maximize their careers.
- 17:10Speaker 5: You don't worry about these guys with any sort of
- 17:13Speaker 5: you know, if they get knocked off their path, it's
- 17:17Speaker 5: going to be because of injury, not things they can control,
- 17:21Speaker 5: and you feel, okay, pay in that kind of a guy.
- 17:23Speaker 1: There's just very few players when we talk about setting
- 17:25Speaker 1: a standard for what this new team is going to
- 17:27Speaker 1: be where on a team, if you remove them, you
- 17:30Speaker 1: can kind of keep the identity of a team.
- 17:32Speaker 2: He's one of those players.
- 17:33Speaker 1: Obviously your quarterback by definition, but Tremon Walker's one of
- 17:35Speaker 1: those players you remove him, I don't know what the
- 17:37Speaker 1: defense looks like exactly without him in there.
- 17:40Speaker 3: Not as good.
- 17:40Speaker 5: If you want to be tough, if you want to
- 17:43Speaker 5: be tougher than your opponent. Everybody in the NFL is
- 17:47Speaker 5: kind of tough. Trayvon's kind of if you're tough among
- 17:51Speaker 5: the tough though. Yeah, he's that guy that the other
- 17:53Speaker 5: players go, Okay, it's tough. So that I think it
- 17:57Speaker 5: is definitely a part and thanks Brian alluded to they
- 18:01Speaker 5: saw last year this regime sort of saw Trayvon at
- 18:05Speaker 5: fifty percent and I'm sure after you sort of decompressed
- 18:09Speaker 5: from the season and start thinking about it, at some
- 18:12Speaker 5: point in a meeting somebody went, Hey, that's him fifty percent,
- 18:16Speaker 5: and if that's the worst we get out of him, right, wow.
- 18:21Speaker 3: Listen.
- 18:22Speaker 4: I this will not necessarily be a popular opinion, but
- 18:24Speaker 4: I think he could end up as your all time
- 18:26Speaker 4: sack leader by the time he's done. And not because
- 18:28Speaker 4: he's going to have twenty sacks seasons, which is what
- 18:31Speaker 4: we think, but because I think when he's healthy, as
- 18:33Speaker 4: he had proven the two years before, he's a ten
- 18:35Speaker 4: sack ten sacked, ten sack guy.
- 18:37Speaker 3: Then he's so tough.
- 18:38Speaker 4: I think he could do that over ten years and
- 18:40Speaker 4: be one hundred sacks. I mean, I just think he's
- 18:42Speaker 4: that kind of a player who's just so steady and
- 18:45Speaker 4: strong and powerful and there all the time that he
- 18:48Speaker 4: could end up he could end up surprising some people
- 18:51Speaker 4: with his production.
- 18:51Speaker 5: I always go back to, and it's right comparison, but
- 18:55Speaker 5: it's one Jags fans might be familiar with. He reminds
- 18:59Speaker 5: me of a guy who could have a Kalais Campbell
- 19:01Speaker 5: type career.
- 19:01Speaker 4: Yeah, exactly, for.
- 19:03Speaker 5: Sure, never necessarily. Oh wow, he's the best SAT guy
- 19:08Speaker 5: in the league. But over the course, if you had
- 19:11Speaker 5: chosen Kalais Campbell number one overall in the draft that
- 19:15Speaker 5: he came out in and you were that franchise, would.
- 19:19Speaker 6: You have egg on your face right now?
- 19:20Speaker 3: No?
- 19:21Speaker 4: So, I mean, but there was a lot of it
- 19:22Speaker 4: then because he was a second round pick.
- 19:23Speaker 5: I think with Trayvon, I think that's the kind of
- 19:27Speaker 5: career he's going to have. We're all of a sudden,
- 19:28Speaker 5: in fourteen years, people are going to.
- 19:30Speaker 3: Go, Wow, yeah, exactly good, exactly right.
- 19:34Speaker 2: Hopefully here in Jacksonville.
- 19:35Speaker 1: Our final question for you, John Mikey asks you, Mike,
- 19:39Speaker 1: what do you think of the Cleveland Browns proposal to
- 19:42Speaker 1: allow trades involving picks five years into the future.
- 19:46Speaker 2: Does it have any chance of passing?
- 19:48Speaker 1: We're gonna talk about.
- 19:48Speaker 6: At the meaning does that have a chance.
- 19:51Speaker 2: That's pretty far out.
- 19:52Speaker 5: I don't have a I don't have a real feel
- 19:54Speaker 5: that it has a chance. I don't think this team
- 19:57Speaker 5: likes it, meaning the Jags. I doubt that vote for it.
- 20:03Speaker 3: Here.
- 20:04Speaker 5: It sounds okay on paper, but here's what I think
- 20:09Speaker 5: the league has to guard against with this, and I
- 20:11Speaker 5: think they will guard against I d I do not
- 20:13Speaker 5: think it'll pass. You've got your a GM in twenty
- 20:18Speaker 5: six can trade theoretically twenty seven nine thirty thirty one
- 20:25Speaker 5: first second round picks in I I in in what
- 20:28Speaker 5: for the GM is a desperate move to keep his job,
- 20:31Speaker 5: and then you have the new regime coming in with
- 20:36Speaker 5: nothing to build.
- 20:37Speaker 2: On half a decade.
- 20:38Speaker 6: Now.
- 20:38Speaker 5: The argument the owners other owners could say is well,
- 20:42Speaker 5: it's up to the owner of that team to take
- 20:44Speaker 5: responsibility for that GM. But I think sometimes, Brian, we've
- 20:49Speaker 5: seen the owner's uh the salary caps a goold example
- 20:52Speaker 5: of this. Owners have to make rules to guard against themselves,
- 20:58Speaker 5: to protect them against themselves, and I think this would
- 21:00Speaker 5: be I think this would lead to a lot of
- 21:02Speaker 5: really bad situations.
- 21:04Speaker 6: I think the move would be bad for the league.
- 21:06Speaker 4: I can't imagine why ownership would want to put themselves
- 21:10Speaker 4: in this situation, except that we have seen plenty of
- 21:12Speaker 4: owners in this league who opened that checkbook in pursuit
- 21:15Speaker 4: of free agency and watch it create downstream effects to
- 21:19Speaker 4: their salary cap. Just imagine if Trent Balki had had
- 21:24Speaker 4: all that sort of leverage and spent knowing he was
- 21:27Speaker 4: on the hot seat and left James Gladstone and Tony
- 21:29Speaker 4: Boselli without anything that they could use to move up
- 21:33Speaker 4: last year to grab the player.
- 21:34Speaker 3: That they wanted.
- 21:35Speaker 4: It just it hamstrings your future.
- 21:37Speaker 3: I would not would not allow this to happen.
- 21:40Speaker 5: But again, the other argument is owners own the team,
- 21:44Speaker 5: so it is ultimately the owner's responsibility if he sees
- 21:49Speaker 5: a GM about to do this to say, hey, I
- 21:51Speaker 5: don't care what regime you're in, this is my team.
- 21:53Speaker 6: You're not doing it. Realistically, it's not often how the.
- 21:56Speaker 5: League works, so I think this is a dangerous thing
- 21:59Speaker 5: and could really hamster franchise.
- 22:00Speaker 4: The only thing I've heard in terms of support for
- 22:03Speaker 4: this is that it creates more interest because it creates
- 22:05Speaker 4: a trade. That's not a reason to do it. There's
- 22:09Speaker 4: enough interest in the national it dominates. Yeah, I guess
- 22:12Speaker 4: it's fun, but it doesn't I think stand up to
- 22:15Speaker 4: the test of time. Which is what this league has
- 22:17Speaker 4: done so well is to make sure that they do
- 22:20Speaker 4: the right thing for the right reason.
- 22:22Speaker 5: I mean, clearly, the league likes the effect of making
- 22:26Speaker 5: compensatory picks tradeable. The league clearly likes because it used
- 22:30Speaker 5: to me, you got those compics he had to take
- 22:32Speaker 5: and they were sort of bored well, now you have
- 22:35Speaker 5: compics and it's.
- 22:36Speaker 6: Like when you do a little light with a cat,
- 22:38Speaker 6: you know.
- 22:39Speaker 5: So compicks are fun because everybody trades and use them
- 22:43Speaker 5: as currency. But I don't think this team likes it,
- 22:49Speaker 5: and this team likes using picks as currency. So hopefully
- 22:53Speaker 5: this team's approach.
- 22:54Speaker 6: To this.
- 22:56Speaker 5: Well help allow the rest of the league to calm
- 22:59Speaker 5: down and say, let's not go this far ahead.
- 23:01Speaker 6: You've already got three years worth. Yeah, have your fun
- 23:03Speaker 6: with those three.
- 23:04Speaker 3: Well, listen, they need twenty four votes to make this pass.
- 23:06Speaker 4: It's hard to see twenty four votes on this one.
- 23:09Speaker 1: So far out five years from now, who knows what'll
- 23:12Speaker 1: be going.
- 23:12Speaker 5: With excly, Yeah, and I think that's what I just
- 23:15Speaker 5: think it's dangerous to.
- 23:17Speaker 6: Get off my lawn.
- 23:18Speaker 1: Yeah, all right, stay with on Jagsam. We'll come back
- 23:21Speaker 1: after the break, tell you what's coming up with the
- 23:22Speaker 1: owner's meetings and with the Jaguars next week. Dogs fans,
- 23:30Speaker 1: time to lock in your seats for twenty twenty six.
- 23:32Speaker 2: You can place your deposits now.
- 23:33Speaker 1: Next season here at ever Bank Stadium gonna be limited
- 23:35Speaker 1: capacity due to that renovation, so you don't want to
- 23:37Speaker 1: miss out on your chance to see some of the
- 23:39Speaker 1: best matchups of the season. Those are the games that
- 23:41Speaker 1: are going to be at the stadium here next year.
- 23:43Speaker 1: So check out Jaguars dot com slash tickets can call
- 23:46Speaker 1: in as well, I if want to get that locked down.
- 23:48Speaker 2: There is new things.
- 23:49Speaker 1: Every time I drive by, there's something going on. The
- 23:51Speaker 1: new concourse is out there. It's very nice, so I'm
- 23:55Speaker 1: excited to see what progresses as this all ways along.
- 23:58Speaker 4: But I come over the Matthews Bridge on a daily basis,
- 24:02Speaker 4: and I the other day came over the Hartbridge just
- 24:04Speaker 4: to get a different view of it.
- 24:05Speaker 3: And it's they are.
- 24:07Speaker 4: Working around the stadium at all times and there's I
- 24:10Speaker 4: counted ten cranes, probably six of them are inside there.
- 24:14Speaker 3: It's fascinating stuff to see.
- 24:15Speaker 2: Absolutely.
- 24:16Speaker 1: So as we look forward to next week, not a
- 24:18Speaker 1: ton going on around here, but owners meetings are gonna
- 24:20Speaker 1: be taking place in Arizona this year. As mentioned, they're
- 24:23Speaker 1: going to be voting about where the Jaguars will play
- 24:26Speaker 1: their games season. After this, we're hearing Orlando or Gainsville.
- 24:30Speaker 1: A lot of commotion about Orlando, so hopefully by this
- 24:33Speaker 1: time next week we'll kind of know what's going on.
- 24:35Speaker 5: Yeah, it's always a big news event. William Cone will
- 24:40Speaker 5: speak to the media media at the breakfast on Monday,
- 24:44Speaker 5: so that's always a fun thing for Jaguars fans to see.
- 24:49Speaker 1: And some new faces in the coaches photo because I
- 24:50Speaker 1: think about what eleven new head coaches are different locations
- 24:53Speaker 1: for some of the head coaches, so we'll get some
- 24:55Speaker 1: new faces in the photo as well. Hopefully Liam Cone
- 24:57Speaker 1: doesn't get in a fight with it's all I'm the
- 24:59Speaker 1: head coach.
- 25:01Speaker 6: I think they'll be fine in the off season fair enough.
- 25:05Speaker 2: Hopefully we'll have some news for you guys next week.
- 25:08Speaker 1: We'll be back here on jag xam on Tuesday and
- 25:10Speaker 1: bringing the lays details the
- 25:30Speaker 2: H
