- Hey, welcome to VoraPrep Audio. Today's episode is from our CMA Exam Strategy Masterclass: "The Variance Grid: Solving CMA Calculations in 45 Seconds". Variance analysis questions usually take candidates three minutes of frantic calculator punching. Here is the 3-row grid that cuts that in half. Ava: Marcus, candidates dread standard costing and variance analysis on Part 1 because the textbook formulas have so many parentheses and subscripts. Marcus: Throw the textbook formula away. Use the 3-row grid: AQ times AP, AQ times SP, and SQ times SP. The difference between rows one and two is your price variance. The difference between rows two and three is your quantity variance. Ava: It works every single time! And if you finish your MCQs in two and a half hours, that extra 30 minutes rolls right into your CBQ section. Marcus: If you want to put this exact strategy into practice with thousands of blueprint-aligned questions and an authentic exam simulator, head over to voraprep.com.
