Transcript
- 0:00Welcome to multiple Nerdgasm with your hosts, Matt Luke.
- 0:07And Dan, multiple Nerdgasm, your guide to all things nerdy, all
- 0:20right. More like NTV then if that's the
- 0:22case. I think I just hit the record
- 0:25button as well and nearly ended it straight away.
- 0:28Good Lord, don't do that. No, we are recording now.
- 0:32I'm actually here for the live show for once.
- 0:34Laos, yeah. How's Laos?
- 0:39Laos is pretty good, isn't it? Right.
- 0:41Yes, it's Laos with the Lao people.
- 0:45That's with the Lao people. Found that out.
- 0:46That's the. Name of the country.
- 0:50That's a good distinction though.
- 0:52Have you tried Beer Lao so far? Is it beer Lao?
- 0:55I remember being quite good. Yes.
- 0:57Oh, it's OK. It's looking forward to getting
- 0:59back to Vietnam for beer. Yeah, I will be having a beer
- 1:04now shortly. At the moment I'm just battling
- 1:06malaria. Yeah, fair.
- 1:10You you mean trying not to get malaria or you have malaria and
- 1:13you're. Trying not to get it and the
- 1:16best way to gin and tonic is what I've heard is the best way
- 1:19to stop it. Yeah.
- 1:21I mean, tonic does have a kind of medicine sound to it, right?
- 1:25Is the tonic No. No, there is actually quinzing I
- 1:27think is in it, which is what OK is the prevention for malaria.
- 1:33That's what I used to. Drink.
- 1:34Oh, there you go. When they were colonizing.
- 1:36The world. I was going to ask.
- 1:37There you go. Yeah.
- 1:38OK, that makes sense now. It is a very colonist just kind
- 1:41of drink. Isn't it straight in and you'll?
- 1:43Yeah. Too much.
- 1:46Quinzing can make you sick. Oh, OK, Probably the gym more
- 1:51than the tonic, Yeah. But it's been quite easy.
- 1:57All this tonic, is there anything we could water this
- 1:59down well? I've got this a little bit sick
- 2:01actually, just just the gym. Thanks.
- 2:03Yeah. Can you just?
- 2:06We did get. Irish up this tonic for me.
- 2:10We went to a really nice waterfall yesterday.
- 2:14There are some really creepy people who travel not the
- 2:19waterfall. Then we're going for a swim and
- 2:21then there's some girls in the trip.
- 2:23There was another girl who was just swimming near us.
- 2:25And then there were just people staring at them.
- 2:30Like just staring. And then it got to the point
- 2:33where I was having to stand in between them by the guys were
- 2:37trying to take photos. Like, really?
- 2:41Disgusting. Look at this like don't get me
- 2:44wrong, I was also having a look but.
- 2:47In a respect, but there's a look and there's a look.
- 2:49Right, there's a look yeah, they were just full of them staring
- 2:52or they're doing the thing when I.
- 2:53Leer at them, they like it, but when other people leer at them?
- 2:57They can't, yeah. Also doing the thing when if
- 2:59they're walking towards girls, they'll have their photo op like
- 3:01this, like they're taking photos, scenery, and then when
- 3:03they get closer they just come down, push the button and yeah,
- 3:06it's really, really. Gross.
- 3:08That's a genius. That's.
- 3:09I mean, here's the thing. I've seen beautiful women out in
- 3:12the wild. I know they exist, but if I want
- 3:14pictures of them, I can just go on the Internet.
- 3:16Like, you don't know who these women are.
- 3:19Who cares? Do you?
- 3:21Look back on this? Oh, there was that girl I took a
- 3:23glance of once. Didn't know I was taking this,
- 3:26did ya? Yeah.
- 3:27She wasn't interested. No, neither was she.
- 3:30She was really not interested. She didn't even see me.
- 3:35Yeah. What is that?
- 3:37What is that? Is that a fetish?
- 3:40Women who have got no interest in me.com.
- 3:43This whole group of older men just doing it.
- 3:46How is it like? Like our age.
- 3:49No Older, Older, older. OK.
- 3:53Like fifties, 60s, I think that's.
- 3:56Not that much older all. Right.
- 3:57And and they can't. Use the Internet.
- 4:00These these people are doing it all the time.
- 4:03Yeah, right. Now, was this one of those
- 4:06waterfalls where like, like beautiful young influencers all
- 4:11over the world flocked to take that one perfect selfie in this
- 4:14waterfall? No, no, no.
- 4:16But you know, there's spots where people go and then they
- 4:18strip down and they oil up and. Make a deal out of it.
- 4:22You're not getting that type of photo there.
- 4:23No, no. Well, it's not.
- 4:25When I was there it was a little bit overcast and raining and
- 4:27then it stopped when we went down a little bit further The.
- 4:29Sweat. If they're not looking, you can
- 4:30get one like. That.
- 4:31Yeah, yeah, that's right. I think I I'd.
- 4:33Probably take a few amazing selfies, OK?
- 4:37Yeah, so maybe it is. You were greased up.
- 4:40Yep, greased up was a lot of sweat.
- 4:45Sweat and sundry. It's been my life.
- 4:47Well. Yeah, I do actually lathering it
- 4:51on. Well, I am, since I got
- 4:54basically, I think third degree burns.
- 4:58My ankle goes one night with me and come we just finished the
- 5:01tour and we're just sitting up on the roof.
- 5:03At night. No, no, this is the next day.
- 5:06We're only. Look against sunburned at night.
- 5:08Oh, OK, sure. We're up, we're up at the pool.
- 5:10We're just sitting there talking.
- 5:11It was overcast, it wasn't hot, so.
- 5:13What are the women in the? Pool, you take photos of women's
- 5:16in Pool what you do. But we're just sitting there
- 5:18talking. Didn't feel anything, just
- 5:21sitting there drinking beer. So there for like 3 hours or
- 5:23something and then went to move and just the top of my knees and
- 5:25the top of my feet just bright red and my ankle now is twisted
- 5:29and I've done damage. Yeah, sucks.
- 5:35The kids wear sunscreen even though it sucks.
- 5:38Heat sunscreen. It does get hot in Southeast
- 5:41Asia. I I don't recall ever getting
- 5:43really sung. I'm sure I did, but for me, I
- 5:45realized how hot it was during my first week there when I got
- 5:48home from work, went into my bathroom and my soap had melted.
- 5:54Yeah, that's not normal. That's hot.
- 5:57Yes, One thing I have to discuss.
- 6:00So I wear sunscreen, obviously, because I'm very pale and I
- 6:03don't want to get burned because I'm an old man and that would
- 6:05annoy me. Sunscreen here in the US fucking
- 6:09sucks. You have to does it.
- 6:11If you want sunscreen that doesn't ruin your fucking day,
- 6:15you have to get it imported. Really.
- 6:17Australian sunscreen or, or like Japanese sunscreen is good.
- 6:20Yeah. For some reason American
- 6:23sunscreen just. I don't know.
- 6:25I don't know exactly why. I know it's a thing because
- 6:27people talk about it online, It's just the sunscreen here
- 6:31sucks and especially there's something in it here that it
- 6:37will sting your eyes. Yeah, right.
- 6:39Like oily is it or? It's it's oily and, and it's
- 6:43got, like I said, there's some ingredient all sunscreens in the
- 6:45US have. Corn.
- 6:47You've got a lot of corn over there it.
- 6:48Just burns your eyes. Like Jesus?
- 6:51Yeah, not everybody. It apparently doesn't affect
- 6:56everybody the same way. It fucking burns.
- 6:58My own, Then you're probably right.
- 7:00So. People know that this is a
- 7:01thing. Yeah, if you look up, look up
- 7:03American sunscreen sucks online, you'll see there's a big.
- 7:06Then you're probably right. There's probably corn syrup in
- 7:08there. Yeah, right.
- 7:10Everything is corn syrup. But there's a whole subreddit
- 7:14it's about like, how do we get non shit sunscreen?
- 7:17And then you have to go to like there's like Japanese brands,
- 7:20everybody in ports because I. Think we can bring some?
- 7:23There's a market sort. Yeah, that's why it's like what?
- 7:26Just call it not shit, yeah. I wonder why there's certain
- 7:30foods that I wonder, like, Americans would fucking love
- 7:33that. Like, like a halloumi burger.
- 7:35Americans love that. It's cheese.
- 7:37Yeah, it's a, it's a literally a burger we've made of cheese.
- 7:40How do we is one of the best cheeses too, arguably I.
- 7:43Mean like I know Vegemite isn't legal over there.
- 7:48Is it legal? Is.
- 7:49It legal? No, you can't buy or sell
- 7:53Vegemite. I didn't in the US.
- 7:54Yeah, well, I didn't know that well.
- 7:55You think it's due to the starch or the salt level?
- 7:59It's good. No, it's because it's
- 8:00disgusting. No, it's amazing.
- 8:03Vegemite and peanut butter sandwich with lots of butter.
- 8:07Can't. No.
- 8:08No, you can both fuck off then. If that's if you're describing 1
- 8:11sandwich and not 2 sandwiches sitting side by side, then you
- 8:14can get 2. Sandwiches.
- 8:17There's a cafe I used to go to when I worked in North North
- 8:19Sydney and I would order peanut butter and butter on Turkish
- 8:26bread. Yes.
- 8:27And now, now that I'm older and I know I just like that is so
- 8:32much oil because Turkish bread is also very oily.
- 8:35And oil. Delicious.
- 8:37Yeah, wasn't an amazing. Yeah, I mean, it was, but I feel
- 8:41like I would just. But you can take it then now.
- 8:44Yeah, I'm. I'm with you.
- 8:45I've got to watch my oil intake these days.
- 8:48Yeah. Oh yeah.
- 8:49I avoid tempura now because I'm like, I'm going to be tired
- 8:52after that. I'm going to just be fucking.
- 8:53I'm going to be like a piece of wet lettuce.
- 8:56Well, in what a month's time I need to start my health journey
- 8:59to catch up with you guys or we start.
- 9:02I'll take my before photo as soon as I get back.
- 9:05OK. Oh, very good.
- 9:06Yeah. So I've, I've given Matt my, my
- 9:09weight loss tip and that's get influenza A because you can't
- 9:13keep anything down for a period of about 3 weeks.
- 9:16So yeah, I put most of that back on, but I've lost all of my
- 9:20muscle mass. So good.
- 9:23Yes, I've got to. I've got to progress picks.
- 9:25I haven't done any. I should have done progress
- 9:27picks three to four weeks ago. I I am.
- 9:30Yeah. It's.
- 9:31A little bit. I have lost some weight while
- 9:33I'm here, just straight through sweat.
- 9:35Sweating it out just. Sweating it out, yeah.
- 9:37Yeah, sweating it and I'm doing a lot.
- 9:39Of weight, that's. Oh yeah, I'm not drinking water.
- 9:45Sure, why would you? Water is what mosquitoes.
- 9:49Don't drink any water. I mean that.
- 9:53Is that is that is what you do if you trying to.
- 9:57Do indulge in the occasional water drinking.
- 10:00Water, yeah. Men for me.
- 10:03Thanks. Just gin and tonic tonight.
- 10:05Got to get up in the morning, yeah.
- 10:09There's there's a movie I saw this week that I'd like to talk
- 10:13about, but you've reminded me of a, a line and it probably my
- 10:16favorite line. There's a, there's a car crash
- 10:20and Detective Frank Durbin is and he says, OK, the car
- 10:28obviously came off the bridge, rolled down the hill, crashed
- 10:31here. And his partner goes drunk and
- 10:33he goes, yeah, but just just enough to wake me up.
- 10:40So you saw this movie's great. Guys, you saw her.
- 10:42I did. Yeah, I saw her.
- 10:43I saw her clip online that maybe.
- 10:45It's available to watch in Italy.
- 10:48And so off I went. Look, I'm not going to lie to
- 10:52you, it's fucking stupid. It is?
- 10:55Yeah, stupid. That's what it was meant to be,
- 10:58though. Yo landed the same for me, but I
- 11:01assume that's the the experience everyone will have and different
- 11:05jokes will either land or not land.
- 11:08Man, there was some fucking. There's things that I don't know
- 11:13how they convinced Liam Neeson to say, but honestly, like.
- 11:19Just fun now. There's a clip online I saw
- 11:22where he goes into this. It's like a bar or something in
- 11:24the back that tenders like you shot my brother in the name of
- 11:27justice. And he goes, well, I could be
- 11:28anybody. He goes.
- 11:31He he was unarmed. Could be thousands of people.
- 11:34He was running away from you. His back was turned.
- 11:37Hundreds. Hundreds.
- 11:38Yeah. He was white.
- 11:39So you're Tony Fellowsi. Yeah, Yeah.
- 11:45Yeah, yeah. For example, that's one, yeah.
- 11:48Very funny. So good.
- 11:49It's it's really good. It is the Naked Gun 4, yes.
- 11:55It is not a reboot. It is not great tone change in
- 12:00any way. It is just another one of the
- 12:02Naked Gun movies. Love it.
- 12:05More of this please. Hopefully we will if it's done
- 12:08well. I really hope it does.
- 12:11Yeah, I hope it does. I read that people are
- 12:13disappointed because there was like, there were a lot of
- 12:16rumours that Liam Neeson and Pamela Anderson were together.
- 12:18Yeah. And.
- 12:20And they're. They're not, apparently, no.
- 12:22I I can't see those two being together well.
- 12:25I. Mean the photos of them
- 12:28together. Yeah, I mean, you know, but but
- 12:30that's all, all press junkets of.
- 12:32I mean, look at fucking Corinne Sweat and whatever.
- 12:37Oh, Lois's name. There was there was some weird
- 12:39stuff about them. Actually, I saw there was like
- 12:44articles about her husband was pissed off because they were
- 12:47behind the scenes footage and James Gunn had already yelled
- 12:50cut and that she was still kissing him and then OK.
- 12:53And I was like what is happening?
- 12:56Yeah, I will say their chemistry is fucking intense in that
- 13:01movie. I.
- 13:03Mean they're both, you know you did, both of them wouldn't.
- 13:06You that right exactly like what they'd be like oh OK we're both
- 13:09just. Fucking hot.
- 13:11And I guess he. Walked up to you in the bar and
- 13:13they said sorry, my wife and I were just looking at you and we
- 13:16were wondering you'd be like. We buy you a drink and have a
- 13:18chat. Maybe you'd go somewhere
- 13:19quieter, yeah. It's that how that works?
- 13:25It's only ever happened to me once and I I had to, I had to
- 13:28amazing night. But I can maybe it's not really
- 13:33a maybe it's an after party story.
- 13:36Damn it, I don't get to hear it all.
- 13:37Right, all right, so you rate the Naked Gun?
- 13:44Yeah, I do. I do OK.
- 13:47Great, I'll put that on my list and watch when I get back.
- 13:49Just yeah, I'll watch. This I'll try and watch this
- 13:51week. Not every single joke lands, not
- 13:54it's it, but what they've done, which I like, which Naked Gun
- 13:58always did, as did Airplane and fucking Caddy.
- 14:02All the movies from those days is it is rapid fire jokes.
- 14:06So if no one's telling a joke, look around the screen.
- 14:10There'll be a sight gag, you know?
- 14:12What I mean like a case of because I remember going back
- 14:14and re watching some of those movies you find something
- 14:17different every time so when you go back the jokes that made
- 14:19didn't land. They might hit differently next
- 14:22time. Maybe yeah, true.
- 14:25Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's just an and one thing that
- 14:30comedies adopt doing or like started a trend in comedies in
- 14:34the the 90s that continued into the 2000s was front load the
- 14:39movie with jokes then just get really sentimental in the
- 14:42second-half. This does not do either of those
- 14:44things. The jokes.
- 14:46Are still. Funny.
- 14:47Fucking yeah. It's stupid from minute one to
- 14:49the fucking fight and the jokes just continue.
- 14:53It doesn't slow down the the comedy.
- 14:55You're not going to Adam Sandler movie.
- 14:57He spends the first half being funny, but then he learns to be
- 14:59a better person and then he's just not funny anymore.
- 15:03Sure, now he just gave up on the funny part.
- 15:08Well, yeah. Yes, although I haven't seen
- 15:10Happy Gilmore 2 yet. I don't know if I.
- 15:14Will Honestly, Yeah. And I loved Happy Gilmore.
- 15:18Yeah, I would have got, in fact. Dan was talking about Adam
- 15:20Sandler, and it wasn't until you literally mentioned Happy
- 15:24Gilmore 2 that I even remembered that that exists.
- 15:28Yeah, I think it came out just as I was leaving.
- 15:34That's not why I didn't say. They knew.
- 15:35They knew you weren't interested.
- 15:36Yeah. It's released as well.
- 15:38It's gone. Actually, Sandler, when I was
- 15:41young and he was young, he was doing young person comedy and I
- 15:46was fucking eating it up with a big spoon.
- 15:49His album, you know what I mean? Oh yeah, yeah.
- 15:52Medium pace. The GOAT song.
- 15:55I am a symbol goat. Like it's so it was.
- 15:59It just fucking hit me right where I needed to be hit.
- 16:03But from like After Wedding Singer, which I think is his
- 16:08last good film. Everything else is just the
- 16:12same. 51st dates onwards. Yeah, I've heard.
- 16:17Some of those are good. I haven't.
- 16:18I don't think I've seen any of them.
- 16:21I've seen enough to know I'm not interested, but if you want to
- 16:26feel really uncomfortable for two hours watch the Safdie
- 16:29Brothers movie. He was in Uncut Gems.
- 16:31Have you seen that? Sure.
- 16:33It's. Not a comedy.
- 16:34No, not at all. It's really, it's just like this
- 16:39intense drama, high stakes, but he's excellent in it.
- 16:44But it's not the Adam Sandler you know.
- 16:46No. Serious movie.
- 16:51Was very serious. Oscars and whatnot, right?
- 16:54I think so, yeah. I don't think he would.
- 16:55I don't think for a window. If I really wanted to to to
- 17:01really actually I'd he's excellent in it, but it's like
- 17:05he's not even trying because a, his shtick is being deadpan
- 17:08because that's what Leslie Nielsen did.
- 17:11And he in fact, he rivals Leslie Nielsen.
- 17:13He surpasses Leslie Nielsen in the deadpan arena goodness.
- 17:17But but half the time he doesn't even do the accent.
- 17:22Like he'll be doing an American accent and then just go back to
- 17:25his normal Irish for a couple of words at the end of some
- 17:27sentences. And like, no one called cart.
- 17:29No one said anything but what? You'll know what I mean when you
- 17:32say you are sure he's not even trying at this point.
- 17:35He's just saying the words. Yeah.
- 17:36So I don't know if I'd give him the Oscar for it but not.
- 17:39Fair enough. Give him a sequel.
- 17:41Do another movie. Yes, definitely give him a
- 17:43sequel. I see wonderful clips right when
- 17:46as a result of that, people also sharing wonderful clips of the
- 17:50old police squad show and from the Naked Gun, and it's just
- 17:53like, I gotta watch all those again.
- 17:55So many good. Just I hate when people do this,
- 17:59but I'm going to give you one more one liner from from the
- 18:02movie. He's being set up and he goes
- 18:05like an idiot's completed jigsaw puzzle.
- 18:07I was being framed. It's a good one from the old
- 18:14show that I had to see. It just made me laugh about how
- 18:17just God Naked Gun. I'm just glad we got more of it,
- 18:20but there's a bit more driven's like, I'm really sorry to bother
- 18:23you at a time like this. We would have come earlier, but
- 18:26your husband wasn't dead yet. Was that from the old one or was
- 18:31that from the new old one? From the old one, Yeah.
- 18:33I was gonna say that could have been from both.
- 18:34The humor has not. They've.
- 18:36I don't know whether they've dug up the old writers or whether
- 18:38someone's just. I watched a lot.
- 18:40And just staying really true to it.
- 18:42But it is. Like a Midget of urinal, I had
- 18:44to stay on my toes. It's from the old one too.
- 18:49I forgot that it just popped into my head.
- 18:51Ran him out of town like a common pygmy.
- 18:55I watched something this week. Gone.
- 19:01I watched Alien Earth. Which one's alien Earth?
- 19:06It's the newest series as we speak, but this is.
- 19:11To be clear, this is this is in the Alien universe.
- 19:14Correct. It is forward to that.
- 19:18It is was I. So was I.
- 19:21It is a prequel to Alien. It takes place two years before
- 19:25Alien. OK, well we had nothing to do
- 19:28with anything then. It was a complete coincidence
- 19:29that they came across it. OK, move on.
- 19:31Nothing happens in this show then, does it?
- 19:35No, it it's quite the opposite in fact.
- 19:39Yeah, I I mean, I don't want to spoil anything.
- 19:41You could spoil it doesn't sound very good at this point.
- 19:46It's not very good in my opinion.
- 19:47I however people are enjoying it online and I've been.
- 19:52It's one of those things where I'm like, are we watching the
- 19:54same show? And then I look and it actually
- 19:57is very divided it. Seems like OK.
- 20:00Some people really like it and some people really hate it.
- 20:03OK, I mean, I wouldn't say I hate it.
- 20:06I'm still watching it, but I just don't think it's very good
- 20:10on on many levels. So it's.
- 20:13Used. For the first alien, so is
- 20:16what's the technology look like? So their opening of on a Ship in
- 20:26Space looks exactly like Ridley Scott's Alien, to the point
- 20:30where I got really excited and then I was like, what?
- 20:33I mean this is they're just mimicking shots from Alien so I
- 20:36get too. Excited because they know that's
- 20:38what you want to see. Exactly.
- 20:39I'll say this is good, this is good.
- 20:40And I was like, well, hang on a minute, I'm being manipulated
- 20:43and then. That went in very skeptical.
- 20:48No, no, I was like, I was enjoying.
- 20:50No, it does this thing where I don't I guess I don't want to
- 20:53spoil touch. The main problems I have with it
- 20:54is that people do not behave rationally in this show.
- 20:58Crazy degree. Nobody like there is a fucking
- 21:01alien trying to kill you and people are just like laughing
- 21:05and strolling around and like like as in literally like a
- 21:10sequence of horrific things happens to this person and then
- 21:14they just like get distracted by something and they're like, oh,
- 21:17how's it going? Like I just, it's so weird,
- 21:22like. Is the premise that aliens come
- 21:26to Earth? Yes.
- 21:28Right. So before the Aliens movies
- 21:31where everyone's like, what the fuck is that?
- 21:34They've already know what they're.
- 21:35Going to do I think what they're going to do is they're just
- 21:38moving the whole problem back earlier, right?
- 21:39Because we'd never know, we'd have to go into this too much.
- 21:43But my only. Thing was always if you dial.
- 21:45In sequels I was like where? So the alien right?
- 21:47They get the alien and aliens and then Waylon Utah or alien in
- 21:51alien Waylon Utahni wants them. I guess.
- 21:54We don't know. It's kind of ambiguous whether
- 21:57they knew about them specifically.
- 21:59I also you gotta remember this watch read that they they didn't
- 22:04know about them per SE, but that there was that directive that if
- 22:08they encountered any life that their mission was off and they
- 22:12had to investigate. But you also got to remember the
- 22:14notion farmers that probably would have left two years more
- 22:18than two years prior. Yeah, so they would.
- 22:21And it's a years long trip. Yes, yeah.
- 22:26So actually while the events of this movie are taking place,
- 22:29they're already in hypersleep on their way back, right.
- 22:32So then yet to encounter. Just a coincidence then, that
- 22:38they stumbled upon one out in deep space.
- 22:40Well, that's The thing is that so far this film does not
- 22:42explain where they got them. So it's it happens in the
- 22:46opening. So there's a ship, it's a, it's
- 22:47a whaling Utani science vessel. It's been out in deep space
- 22:50collecting life forms and amongst those life forms are
- 22:54eggs of of the alien variety. But we don't know where they got
- 23:00them yet. I don't know if we'll find out
- 23:01in this. Maybe it's from LV 426?
- 23:05But just to be clear, in Aliens, the second Alien movie.
- 23:08Not where they came from anyway. When, when, when Ripley says to
- 23:13fucking mad about you. Oh, if he's ever got to Earth,
- 23:16we'd all be dead. They've already been to Earth.
- 23:18He was thinking to himself. Or should I tell her that we've
- 23:20already dealt with this shit? And I, I thought about that and
- 23:23I was like, you know, I mean it, it doesn't ruin it in any way
- 23:25because they were they didn't tell her stuff and they were
- 23:27fucking with her anyway. Yeah.
- 23:29So, OK, it could be that everybody in that meeting was
- 23:31just like, good idea. Yeah, right.
- 23:34But the other thing this show does and it that bothers me is
- 23:40it points out it different. It it it draws light to a
- 23:44differences between alien and aliens in a way that I don't
- 23:46like because it wants to have both.
- 23:49Like the alien in Alien is quite different to the aliens in
- 23:56aliens when you put them too close together, because like in
- 24:01Alien, it's like a menacing, slow kind of slasher film.
- 24:05And Aliens is more of an action adventure.
- 24:06They're very quick. And and like you just said,
- 24:10Ripley says. You know, if one of those things
- 24:11got down here, that will be all. But then we see in Aliens, if
- 24:15you've got guns, it's actually not that hard to kill one of
- 24:17them. Yeah, mate, in Alien Romulus if
- 24:21you've got a baseball bat you can kill 20.
- 24:23Oh, you can. You can have a you can just
- 24:26wrestle one of them in this show, like as long as you're a
- 24:30main, but. What if you're wrestling it
- 24:31wouldn't as little mouth come out and then leave your little
- 24:33mouth come out from? There, if you're a main
- 24:35character, you'll be fine. If you're it can, literally can
- 24:38and does in this show, go kill a room full of people in two
- 24:43seconds in a comical way with blood flying everywhere.
- 24:46But if you're a main character, it's going to stand there and go
- 24:48all. Right.
- 24:50Yeah. Like.
- 24:52It's just very like, yeah, bothers me.
- 24:58Yeah. I don't know.
- 25:00It's not great. And it does this, there's this
- 25:01weird thing. I wouldn't mind it, except it's
- 25:05just odd. For Alien is at the end of every
- 25:07episode they do, they're calling him like needle drops.
- 25:11So for example, at the end of one of the episodes, the Alien
- 25:15and they call it, they call it the Xenomorph.
- 25:17I just have to get over that. That's just how it is now.
- 25:20That's just what it is now, yeah.
- 25:22I mean you. Lost that battle.
- 25:24It's finally I lost that battle many, many years ago.
- 25:28It grabs somebody, right, and then carries them off because
- 25:31they're a main character, so it's not allowed to kill them.
- 25:33Yeah. So it just carries them away.
- 25:35Carries it off. Yeah, it carries this person
- 25:37away and then someone else says I'm going after him, and then he
- 25:42goes stink fist by tool and then the credits roll.
- 25:48No. We're doing that now, next
- 25:50episode, wherever around the room, burning this.
- 25:56Yeah, like 90s metal. Wow.
- 25:58At the end of every episode. I mean, that's not a deal
- 26:02breaker for me. No, it's.
- 26:04Unusual. It's odd.
- 26:05It's odd. And have you seen this?
- 26:07I thought this was a joke at first.
- 26:09It's not a joke. There's a screen grab people
- 26:10keep sharing saying this is an actual frame from a television
- 26:14show. Alien with the I say sloth.
- 26:16Yeah, yes, sit the sloth. Yeah, that is a real frame
- 26:19because this, it does a lot of like cross fading and like
- 26:24overly like overlays. What you know, like double
- 26:27exposure. I guess you would call it in.
- 26:28Oh, OK. Yeah.
- 26:29But it's I mean digitally. Just do it digitally.
- 26:31Yeah, they fake it, but yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah, there's tons
- 26:34of that in this. Like it's some it's actually
- 26:36very visually interesting. But there's but there is a scene
- 26:38where so there's one character and her brother used to watch
- 26:40Ice Age and so there's a scene where she's having a memory or
- 26:44whatever. And then that fucking just Sid
- 26:45just appears and it's and it at the time in the show, it's fine.
- 26:52But when you see out of context like that, you go, that is very
- 26:54funny. Yeah, I do want to.
- 26:57I'm, I will. I will have to start watching.
- 26:59Yeah, I think I'm going to have to watch it.
- 27:01You're actually selling me on it more than you.
- 27:05Maybe you'll enjoy it more now. Well, yeah, which is why I don't
- 27:08mind spoilers for something that I thought I was going to hate,
- 27:11because spoilers help you manage your expectations.
- 27:14Yeah, yeah. It's just a lot of things where
- 27:16it just seems like, like, we'll say again, this is the beginning
- 27:21of the show, so fuck it. All right, so there's a whale on
- 27:23your tiny science vessel. It's got these aliens on it.
- 27:26Something happens. They get loose, obviously.
- 27:29And then it it literally just crashes on Earth and seemingly
- 27:33nobody notices that it's even coming.
- 27:36OK, because nobody does it. Everyone's just living their
- 27:39life. And all of a sudden this giant
- 27:40spaceship just crashes the building.
- 27:41Like, what fucking future is this that they not look?
- 27:43They're not looking. No one's trying to shoot it out
- 27:45of the sky or something. It's a space station orbiting
- 27:48Earth on the way through. No one.
- 27:49No. One's monitoring it, right?
- 27:51Right. So that happens, but then they
- 27:54send in like an emergency crew who are all armed.
- 27:59Like it's like everybody in the movie knows there's going to be
- 28:02an alien and it's just, I don't know the way that, like I said,
- 28:05people don't behave like normal people right in A and it's just
- 28:10in in a weird way. And like I said, they're
- 28:12supposed to be a rescue cube. There's literally a Man on Fire
- 28:15and they're just ignoring him because it's almost, I think
- 28:19possibly that wasn't originally what they were doing, right?
- 28:23And they've like restructured things sort.
- 28:26Of around it, yeah. Yeah, because the way they
- 28:28behave just doesn't make any sense, so.
- 28:30Not too funny. I think maybe they.
- 28:32Other than the silly things that you've already talked to us
- 28:36about, does it feel like an Alien movie?
- 28:39Does it feel? Is it the tone right?
- 28:40Is it in the right world? Does it look right?
- 28:43It looks right absolutely, especially the the I forget the
- 28:46name of the ship and then later episodes you find out what
- 28:50happened more on that ship and it it looks it just looks like
- 28:53alien, like you know, and, and to the point where they the
- 28:58people, the casting is great and the like I said, they're
- 29:02clothing. It just looks like alien.
- 29:05Yeah, OK. Yeah, like they've done a really
- 29:07good job of of that stuff, but. Any characters linked directly
- 29:11to the other movies or is it just?
- 29:14Not spec, not. Thematically linked.
- 29:16You see Utani? OK, Yeah.
- 29:19But like that. She's not.
- 29:21Do you see Waylon? No, not yet.
- 29:23No. Anyway, No that that.
- 29:25'D have to make some decisions about that.
- 29:27No, you know other characters explicitly from the rest of the
- 29:33series so far. Mentions of like companies and
- 29:36things you would recognize. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 29:40But yeah, so anyway, I'm like I said, I've, I think I, I, I hate
- 29:45watch the 1st 2:00 and then after that I think I've now I'm
- 29:48kind of like level set. OK, so I well, maybe it'll
- 29:51start. And I was like.
- 29:52Picking up from here. And it's like I said, I'm
- 29:54rolling my eyes a lot at bits, but, you know, yeah, I mean,
- 29:58it's not, it's not the worst alien content we've ever gotten.
- 30:01It's just not not what I wanted. I'm going to watch it.
- 30:08Hey, I enjoyed Aliens versus Predator.
- 30:10I'm not going to go to bat for it, but at the time I was like,
- 30:15it's all right, Lance. Henrickson, Princess Predator.
- 30:21I I did watch a couple more always sunnies from the the
- 30:25current crop. I watched the one where Dennis
- 30:29and Dee are trying to sleep with the people they didn't go to
- 30:34prom with in high school and end up sleeping with their kids
- 30:37instead. That was.
- 30:38Funny. Oh yes.
- 30:41I've not seen any of the new season either, but I'm looking
- 30:44forward to it. Has it been?
- 30:45Pretty good, pretty good. Yeah.
- 30:49Yeah, it's over the season after this that they contracted for
- 30:51or. That's I think there's another
- 30:532. Yeah, I think there's more than
- 30:55that. Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 30:56They're throwing money at them. I can't believe we are watching
- 30:59this two years ago yeah. This season is back to the old
- 31:06format to where there's no continuity.
- 31:08Every episode's just whatever they wanted to do in that
- 31:11episode is a self-contained thing.
- 31:13Yeah, yeah. There's no we're going overseas
- 31:16and it'll all be in this one spot or anything like that.
- 31:19Yeah, no, no, it's all just yeah, yeah, yeah, some episodes
- 31:24fucking hilarious this week, this this season and you.
- 31:27I was going to say you've not gotten to my favorite one
- 31:30mornings. So.
- 31:33OK, OK, interesting. Yeah, I got a couple more to go.
- 31:38I did, however, finish Fallout. Oh yes.
- 31:42So took took took me two times to watch this.
- 31:45I'll still say this. First episode amazing, second or
- 31:48third episode a bit boring. After that it does pick back up.
- 31:54Definitely worth a watch. I just wish they'd truncated a
- 31:56couple and two. I don't know you'd.
- 31:59Like to refuel them one if they bolt was.
- 32:03Yeah, that was interesting. That was little.
- 32:05Management. Yeah, Yeah.
- 32:09I was not expecting that. Yeah.
- 32:13Yep, that was that was Yeah. And I liked that.
- 32:20I forget the ghouls real name and not Walter Goggins.
- 32:23I mean his real character's name before the blast that he decided
- 32:28to do a thumbs up in a picture one day and that became the
- 32:33entire logo that we have seen for Vault Boy that that was
- 32:37good. And I usually hate details like
- 32:39that in shows, you know, but that was.
- 32:42Don't make a huge back story for some.
- 32:44Yeah, yeah, yeah. Like I watched Mufasa The Lion
- 32:50King prequel which is pretty good and the songs are excellent
- 32:54because it's Lin Manuel Miranda and he's good at writing songs.
- 32:57But there's an origin story of fucking Cypler where you find
- 33:01out where Rafiki the monkey got his wiggly stick from and it's
- 33:04like I'll just assumed he picked that up off the ground.
- 33:07Like he did not need to show me the significance of that stick.
- 33:12No. A stick, gentlemen.
- 33:16Fucking mostly. Yeah.
- 33:19Oh, I'll say so. One more thing I want to mention
- 33:20about Alien Earth, sorry, just quickly is actors.
- 33:23You will recognise actors in this that I was surprised.
- 33:26So Timothy Oliphant, obviously, I think that's everybody knows
- 33:28he's in it. Yeah.
- 33:29Do you remember Adrian Edmondson?
- 33:31His name rings a bell. Vivian.
- 33:34From the young ones and the young ones.
- 33:37What does he even look like these days?
- 33:39He looks like a fucking evil henchman because he is 1 in this
- 33:43and he's. Great.
- 33:45So that made me. I'm definitely in now.
- 33:49And do you remember tires from spaced?
- 33:52Yes, the delivery guy with the bike.
- 33:54Yeah, like the like the speeder guy, Yeah.
- 33:57He's the guy. He talks like this and he's
- 33:59like, yeah, he's in this. He's the main character on the
- 34:02science vessel. Yeah, right.
- 34:05Oh, Edmondson does not look like he is Evian.
- 34:09Very serious in this, like he's great in it.
- 34:11He's a very serious hard ass. OK, sick.
- 34:15All right, good. That's like when we saw Mark
- 34:17Hamill in. What was he in?
- 34:20House of Usher. Yeah, Hearts of Usher.
- 34:22Yeah. And I was like, didn't know he
- 34:23could do that anyway, sorry. I just wanted to mention that
- 34:26those two people in particular, I was just like, oh fuck, I
- 34:28haven't seen Adrian Edmondson in 30 years.
- 34:33Yeah, he looks good for right when I when I was young and I
- 34:37watched those shows, he was old and so.
- 34:40Yeah. And now when I see him, it's
- 34:42just like he looks kind of the same.
- 34:45Yeah, that's true. Baffling.
- 34:47Yeah. Yeah, sorry for.
- 34:50The yeah no fallout irate fallout season 2 looks looks
- 34:54good too. Yeah, that's I'd still watch the
- 34:56reason I went back. Yeah, don't make it, don't
- 35:00worry. I want Fallout New Vegas too.
- 35:03That's what I want. It's going to be so much time
- 35:06between 4:00 and 5:00 that it took them to make three games.
- 35:09Like it's get a bit ridiculous. I've thought about playing 4
- 35:15again, it's just so big, I don't think I could go through it.
- 35:19You got to commit. Even if I played it, I could
- 35:22play it completely differently and it would be a completely new
- 35:24game. It would essentially be Fallout
- 35:265I just know the scope of it, and I just know that there's
- 35:31just too much. It's so easy to get sidetracked
- 35:34and. Oh yeah, building houses,
- 35:38fucking bringing pumping water for the villagers.
- 35:43Yeah, I never finished four. You'll do an enhanced edition.
- 35:46I'll go back. Maybe I'll go back.
- 35:50Maybe I've just talked myself into it.
- 35:53Would be just to plug my Xbox in.
- 35:55I still haven't done that since. It's just because because the
- 35:59next I want to play Assassin's Creed Shadows, but I do not want
- 36:04to pay $110.00 for it. I will not do it.
- 36:06I will not do it. Think it might be it's less lost
- 36:09now. Oh no.
- 36:13I think I would have. Luke, who's monitoring your
- 36:16achievements while you're away? I am taking a hit, a big hit,
- 36:23Yeah. So there's.
- 36:24No way you could. I've got 2 1/2 weeks when I get
- 36:27back and I'm going to be doing a huge grinding session.
- 36:32Wait, OK, too much information, but you've got 2 1/2 weeks?
- 36:36What? You're going to be worn out
- 36:37after your trip through the brothels of Southeast Asia.
- 36:42Well, I've got. I've got, I think my tour
- 36:45finishes on I think the 27th or something, or the 20th.
- 36:51Then I've got a few days in Ho Chi Minh and then I'm going to a
- 36:54resort for a week just to do nothing.
- 36:56Then I fly back to Australia on the 1st of October. 2 1/2 weeks
- 37:00off after that. Yep, I get back again, get
- 37:05achievements and then I head to PAX and then I go back to work.
- 37:11Wow man, you. I would not.
- 37:16I would. There's no universe where living
- 37:18in the USI will ever get to take that time off work ever again.
- 37:21That amount of time off work. I've still got money to leave.
- 37:25That's so funny. I could probably take the rest
- 37:28of the year off at full page. Jesus, wow, just an update.
- 37:34It is not on Game Pass yet. It's still just on Ubisoft.
- 37:37What is it? Ubisoft Plus if you want it, but
- 37:39it is on sale right now for 7366, which is that's not bad.
- 37:44I I've certainly paid more than that for worst games, so maybe
- 37:48I'll consider it. Yeah.
- 37:53I do have my little computer here so I have been getting some
- 37:55achievements but I've not been keeping up and I dread to look
- 37:59at where I'm ranked at the moment.
- 38:01I want I want to play James Bond, but it's not coming out
- 38:04for next year trailer. Yeah, that looks pretty good.
- 38:06It looks good and I love Hitman, and this is basically Hitman
- 38:13with more action. And I'm like, yeah.
- 38:14Lots of explosions and stuff, looks cool.
- 38:18Yeah. No, I'm looking forward to going
- 38:21to get back and play Mafia. Oh, sorry, what?
- 38:24I don't think it came out yet, no.
- 38:26I think it's still coming soon but let me check because I'm
- 38:29still on the Xbox. Yeah, actually the one this I
- 38:36haven't thought this hasn't happened in a long time.
- 38:38My Xbox like I said is unplugged and then the other day I got a
- 38:41charge for Game Pass and for the first time in God knows how long
- 38:45I thought do I need Game Pass because.
- 38:49My Xbox is not plugged in. But now that we're talking, now
- 38:52we're talking about indie, I'm realizing I do need it.
- 38:54I just also need to make sure I play a game every now and then.
- 38:58It did, yeah. Maybe it is out.
- 39:00Great Circle is out, I don't think or just about.
- 39:04I know September 4th. Wait, it's after that.
- 39:07Yeah, that's out then. OK.
- 39:10So it's out. Yeah.
- 39:13OK. All right.
- 39:14All right. Huh.
- 39:15I like that. Yeah.
- 39:18OK, great. But you already have to buy the
- 39:24DLC. That's where they get Yeah,
- 39:26yeah, yeah. Yeah, but that means I paid
- 39:29$30.00 for the entire game, so. Yeah, that disconnect where like
- 39:33with The Outer Worlds did this too, where it's like I buy the
- 39:35DLC but I don't own the game, So what happens if I ever cancel
- 39:38Game Pass? Like.
- 39:40You own the deal, so you can you own right, But as they've shown,
- 39:44you don't own the game anyway. Yeah.
- 39:47Yes, you don't own. Anything that's right, you're,
- 39:49you're just renting them. We're just renting everything.
- 39:56There's a story I wanted to talk about, some of the few news
- 40:00stories I wanted to talk about one while while Luke is with us.
- 40:04This reminded me of Dan's rule about Luke with his Google
- 40:10glasses. Should he ever have gotten them
- 40:13those those went away, Yes, many, many years ago.
- 40:16We talked about Google Glass and Dan, you said if anybody was to
- 40:20come and visit you wearing them, they would need to leave them on
- 40:23a hook outside the door. I'm happy to put up a hook
- 40:26that's. Is that still your stance on
- 40:28these? Oh.
- 40:28Absolutely. Yeah, Yeah, it's still my sense.
- 40:30And somebody wants, could you remember Snapchat brought out a
- 40:33pair of glasses at one point? They weren't smart glasses, they
- 40:35just had a fucking camera in them.
- 40:37Thankfully, when it was filming, this little light started
- 40:41flashing, so you could tell. But I, I had a client once who
- 40:45used to just pop them on and come up and just be standing out
- 40:48and you'd be like, I know you're filming me.
- 40:49The fucking lights on. Well, this won't change your
- 40:54mind. There's a woman who went to get
- 40:58a Brazilian wax chatting with the with the beautician or the,
- 41:03the the lady. Everything's going great.
- 41:05And then about halfway through, she notices the, the woman
- 41:10performing the the wax is wearing the meta Ray bans the
- 41:15the cameras in them and she gets she shows there's a video in the
- 41:19article. She tells the story on on TikTok
- 41:23and she said, sorry, are you wearing meta glasses right now?
- 41:26And the woman goes, oh, I am, but they're, they're not charged
- 41:30and it's not recording and got defensive to the point where
- 41:35she's like, well, now I feel really uncomfortable about this.
- 41:38And and then later contacted the, the, the the company and
- 41:46said, you know, I, I just think hopefully she wasn't, but I, I
- 41:49really think you should tell them take the fucking.
- 41:51Glasses off what she's doing. Here like, because that's very
- 41:54creepy. Now the the the picture in the
- 41:58article, these are sunglasses, but I assume you don't wear
- 42:02sunglasses when you do a Brazilian wax.
- 42:06I I thought that too you can get normal lenses in these, so
- 42:10that's possible. But also she must have been.
- 42:12What she was doing. I don't know.
- 42:13I promise not to record when I give you your presuming.
- 42:16Does that help at all? OK.
- 42:18Yeah, it does help. I'd wire I'd I'd wonder why you
- 42:22were wearing sunnies regardless. You know, if you came in with a
- 42:25boy sunnies on, I'd be like, are you high?
- 42:27Like if you could get. Hold on, let's just have your
- 42:29lenses. Let's have a conversation first.
- 42:31Oh yeah, right. OK.
- 42:33Yeah, you can. I've seen them on, I think on
- 42:35Amazon. You can do it too, reading
- 42:36glasses or whatever. And she said she's contacted law
- 42:40firms. She's not interested in getting
- 42:43anyone fired if they didn't do anything wrong.
- 42:44But she's basically she wants to make sure, was this woman
- 42:48recording me or not? Because yeah, it's at this.
- 42:51Point during this intimate act. But I don't think you're wearing
- 42:55them. Yeah, like that's not the time,
- 42:57but, well, I. Mean.
- 42:59Unless they are prescription they're.
- 43:00Just prescription and they're just their glasses.
- 43:02And then maybe you need a pair of work glasses.
- 43:06But then maybe they're just like fake lenses and that's what
- 43:08she's in the in the thing. Nobody who couldn't help needs
- 43:12glasses has only one pair of glasses.
- 43:15She couldn't help thinking because this is what your mind
- 43:17where your mind goes, right? Does she do this all the time?
- 43:20Is she filming lots of people? Like she's like, I can't, I have
- 43:24to, She's like, And so now she's like, I've got to, I have to get
- 43:26these options because I. Got her other glasses, these are
- 43:30only one she had at the time and the one all.
- 43:34There, but she shouldn't be allowed to wear those when she's
- 43:38doing that. Yeah, I think that's fair.
- 43:40I think if your glasses are a camera, you shouldn't be able to
- 43:43wear them. Yeah.
- 43:44Yeah, anyway, the company said the Waxers Waxers glasses were
- 43:48powered off at the time of service.
- 43:51Because here's the thing, there's plenty of events and
- 43:54situations where you can't take a phone in because a phone has a
- 43:57camera. Even if you say it.
- 43:59But it's my phone. I'm only using it as a phone.
- 44:00No, no, no. It has a camera in there.
- 44:02So it's banned here, locking away.
- 44:04I don't see why this should be different.
- 44:06Yeah. Like we talked about earlier, if
- 44:07you've got like like women swimming and you're walking
- 44:10around, Oh no, it's not turned on.
- 44:12I'm just, I'm just holding it like this because I'm, it's just
- 44:14how I like to hold my phone. Like I'm not recording like.
- 44:19That was funny in Superman, whether Miss Tessmacher was
- 44:23sending sexy selfies with clues. Oh, that's right.
- 44:26Yes. That was funny.
- 44:29Yes. Yeah.
- 44:32That whole subplot is just very ridiculous.
- 44:35It's where they're in love with you.
- 44:37Yeah, yeah, I know. And then the fact that Jimmy
- 44:39doesn't think she's hot. Yeah, it's very funny too,
- 44:42because yeah. Oh, man.
- 44:43And he's like, really her. Oh.
- 44:45No, yeah, he's like. Jimmy's just Emily just can get
- 44:49all the ladies that's. Well, that's that's that's in
- 44:52the comics. I think that.
- 44:54Yeah, but also it's great casting too, because he's very
- 44:57plain. I feel any of us have Lesley
- 45:00played that wrong. You know, totally cool.
- 45:07Grande But evidently online women are going like, oh, he's a
- 45:11bit all right. Like, what is it?
- 45:13The Jimmy Olsen effect. My friend knows him, really went
- 45:17to school with him, yeah. Oh shit, wow.
- 45:20That's cool. Yeah, she said before, before it
- 45:24came out. She said, oh, my friend's in
- 45:25that. And I said, oh, OK.
- 45:26And then after I saw it, I was like, hey, who's your friend?
- 45:28And she told me. And I was like, oh, he's the
- 45:30fucking main character. You were thinking he's.
- 45:35He must be older than he's playing then.
- 45:37Younger than us, Like this is the person I'm talking about is
- 45:40younger than us. OK.
- 45:42Yeah. I don't have any young friends.
- 45:45No, I really don't. I don't.
- 45:47I don't have any people that I. Don't have any old friends, I
- 45:51have YouTube. Yeah.
- 45:53It's pretty much of this, yeah. Yeah, that's one of the hardest
- 45:57things about moving here was that I'm too old to make friends
- 45:59now. So I have acquired friends over
- 46:02time. Yeah, here.
- 46:02But like, yeah, I don't go out. And meet people.
- 46:05My problem is, it's not that I can't, although I can't, but I
- 46:09also don't really want to. Like anytime somebody acts like
- 46:13they want to become my friend, do you want to catch up?
- 46:15I'm like, not really, you know? That means also going out.
- 46:20Yeah, actually. And.
- 46:22The person like I barely get enough time to play my Xbox if I
- 46:25can do this or that. Like I'm not I can't add a new
- 46:27thing. Yes, I have my trivia team and
- 46:31the person I'm talking about is a member of the.
- 46:33Trivia team. Oh, right.
- 46:34Yeah, yeah. And so that's how I acquired my
- 46:38friends here, yeah. Yeah.
- 46:39Yeah, like every now and again I would love to play online games
- 46:43with people, but then I think about no, I'd have to play
- 46:47online games with people and. Yeah, and who wants to do that?
- 46:53Not even with us. You don't want to.
- 46:56Well, I do, but then you're going to commit to a game and I
- 46:59can't do that. I've got commitment issues.
- 47:01There's a lot of a lot of commitments to it.
- 47:03Yeah, I agree. I agree with that.
- 47:05Look before we. Move off Superman news entirely.
- 47:09There's some other Superman follow up news.
- 47:11Really. We we did report that Dean Cain
- 47:14has joined ICE. He has already left because he
- 47:20was injured. So poor little thing.
- 47:24Yeah, you'll have to stop. Actually separating kids from
- 47:27families for a little while while he recovers.
- 47:30I did see a funny tweet from Ruby Rose that made me laugh,
- 47:35she said. Because she's fucking hates Dean
- 47:37Cain now and actually she's very political on Twitter.
- 47:41But she said don't worry, Dean's mum called me and told me it's
- 47:45just a little Boo Boo and he's going to be fine, yeah.
- 47:49I was prepping for this episode and I had, and I was reading the
- 47:53article and further down was a picture of him as Superman and
- 47:59Harper's like, oh, Superman, what are you looking at?
- 48:01I'm like, oh, I'm just reading this article.
- 48:02I scrolled back up to the top. She's like, who's that?
- 48:05And I'm like, oh, that's, that's Superman, just not in the suit.
- 48:08She's like, that's not Superman. That's just, that's just an old
- 48:13man like, well, I mean, I hate that Dean Kane has become a bit
- 48:19of a a bit of a cunt because I thought he was a perfectly good
- 48:23Superman back in the day. I really, I really did like Lois
- 48:27and. Clark, like Kevin Sorbo.
- 48:28It's like, oh, that's funny, kid.
- 48:30Yeah. Yeah.
- 48:32Such a strange. I never loved Kevin Sawbow
- 48:36though, in the way that I loved. No, but I didn't like no, I know
- 48:39that he was such a knob head like.
- 48:41Yeah, yeah, yeah. And this is for you.
- 48:45Oh, there it is. Yeah.
- 48:47Nice. Yeah.
- 48:48I remember it being a sweet. Or maybe it was just really hot.
- 48:51This. Week's episode brought to you by
- 48:52B Lauer. Proudly brought to you by B
- 48:54Lauer. Send us a case of it.
- 48:57I don't like it to start drinking with, but I can drink
- 49:00it once I've had a couple. But if if you're a bit drunk
- 49:03already. There's a bit of an after taste
- 49:05to it that gets me. OK, yeah, rising.
- 49:11The severe of the country and I support local.
- 49:19Luke, I wanted to ask, what type of phone do you have currently?
- 49:23I have a pixel ninefold. Matt's trying to be attempted.
- 49:27Get the fold. Do you get the fold?
- 49:29No I don't and I'm sticking with iPhone I've made.
- 49:33Can you tell it's a fold when it's unfolded and.
- 49:36Is it the scene on the middle of it?
- 49:38Yeah, the vertical fold or the horizontal fold?
- 49:43Vertical. OK, so it folds up into a little
- 49:46square. No, no, it's so the horizontal
- 49:53so I open up like a book folds. Vertically or yeah, you know
- 49:55what? I'm I'm doing a very bad job of
- 49:57I've inverted. I open up like a book the
- 49:59question so I get a bigger screen, right?
- 50:022 phones side by side. Yes, cool, cool.
- 50:06The Pixel 10 interesting to you or not?
- 50:09No, because I only just got this right.
- 50:13But this phone I'm not interested in any more phones
- 50:15for about two to three years. Not even going to look.
- 50:20Right there. But I'm enjoying.
- 50:21This one, does yours have the 100 times zoom or is that an
- 50:26exclusively? That might be 10.
- 50:28I've got five. I've got five times by default.
- 50:31I don't know if OK, but I find that anytime you go, it starts
- 50:36zoomed in five times. No, no, no.
- 50:38You know how you've got the you go .51 * 2, then times 5.
- 50:43Just there are buttons on there only go to the five.
- 50:46I don't do the manual zoom, but once you sort of get past there
- 50:49it's hard to control. Right, it's hard to control
- 50:53yourself. I can fucking see everything.
- 50:55This is people who I know people don't know, but I, I can't help.
- 50:59So first of all, the iPhone, my iPhone has three lenses.
- 51:02Yours is probably the same Dan, right, three lenses, right.
- 51:05One of them is quite good, the main one, the others not so
- 51:09good. And you should really should
- 51:10avoid using them if you, if you don't have to like the lens on
- 51:14an iPhone is not great. The 5 * 1 no, no.
- 51:19But then what people do is they'll just pinch and zoom all
- 51:24the way in and I'm like, you be better off probably.
- 51:28Like I think to just take the photo at the five and then zoom
- 51:32in later. And then cross, yeah.
- 51:33Because that's basically what you're doing anyway.
- 51:36Yeah, but you're forcing the phone to do it on the fly in
- 51:39real time, which is right. And I think maybe it does some
- 51:43processing because it knows you're doing it in advance.
- 51:46Maybe it does look a little better, I don't know, but I
- 51:49always think you just just stick to the actual lens things, take
- 51:52a photo and then zoom in if you want to.
- 51:54That's all I'm doing. Just take the echo and the all
- 51:56of the things are amazing. Oh yeah.
- 52:01The iPhone I've got the. Searing this.
- 52:04Is 15. I've got fuck.
- 52:05I kind of remember where we're up to that, but main lens, but
- 52:09with the portrait mode on so that it gives you depth of
- 52:13field. That's as good as I have ever
- 52:16expected any camera phone to be, you know they're.
- 52:19Incredible. Absolutely incredible.
- 52:22And because the thing like it's such a tiny little lens, but
- 52:26it's the processing that it does and it's just like I can't like
- 52:29even my you know, I love my Sony and it takes beautiful photos,
- 52:32but it just the processing is just not there and it no to the
- 52:37point where it's better. I just take raws and then I'll
- 52:39fuck with it later myself. In fact, I'll let my phone do
- 52:42the auto yeah on the raws for my camera.
- 52:46And it gives you more of a like a smart.
- 52:48Even now if I'll take a photo, I'll share it.
- 52:51I can hit enhance and it'll do it'll make the phone look better
- 52:55than what it was and I just, it's almost like.
- 52:56You let the phone do the magic that it does on.
- 52:58Yes, iPhone also has just the tap on things in the background
- 53:02to make them disappear using. Yeah, it's got that as well.
- 53:04That's and it's really incredible, yeah.
- 53:06It's got one thing on here I haven't tried yet which is the
- 53:08add me so I can take a photo and then.
- 53:13You in a photo. OK.
- 53:14And then yeah, this is perfect. You get a group photo and then
- 53:17if you go, they get a photo of yourself standing next to where
- 53:20they were. And then just go add me it'll
- 53:23I'm gonna shop you in. See, that's what I'm talking
- 53:26about, OK, that's why I put this article in here, right?
- 53:27Because this stuff right? So that that's interesting and
- 53:31clever, but it didn't happen, right?
- 53:34And so that's this weird disconnect.
- 53:37I feel like a lot of stuff in the world is is like this now,
- 53:41right? Like that didn't happen.
- 53:43It's like that you get the Samsung thing where if you take
- 53:46a photo and it figures out the moon is in it, it'll just
- 53:48Photoshop the moon in over the because you know, because you
- 53:53can't take a photo with the moon with a smartphone camera.
- 53:55You just cannot. And then when the Samsung's, the
- 53:58newer Samsung's came out, like one of someone I know was like,
- 54:01look at these moon photos and I was like, how the fuck?
- 54:04And I looked it up. It's just it's not super.
- 54:06Imposed. Yeah, it's.
- 54:07Literally a picture, like a fucking moon picture from
- 54:09Wikipedia and it just. Sticks it in there.
- 54:11Like it just knows and then and they're like.
- 54:13Even dead one style. And then this, that thing you're
- 54:17talking about, add me into the photo.
- 54:19I'm like, well, that's weird, isn't it?
- 54:21I don't think I would want to do that because it's it didn't
- 54:23happen. It's it's literally forgetting
- 54:26good photos, not preserving memories.
- 54:30So, and then this, this 100 times zoom thing now, right?
- 54:33So the new Pixel 10s can do 100 times zoom, which sounds
- 54:37incredible. It's, it's AI, it's not real.
- 54:40So what it'll do is you zoom all the way in, it looks like
- 54:45absolute shite and it just goes, oh, that's probably a tree
- 54:48that's probably there. And then it just AI generates.
- 54:52One thing I am looking at doing is like with some of the photos,
- 54:55there are like absolutely beautiful places, but there are
- 54:58people in the photo that you can't get around.
- 55:01Now you just go remove those people.
- 55:03Yeah, but but the people were there.
- 55:05That's what I can't. My brain is just like I, I, I
- 55:08cannot reconcile this because it's like, that's not what
- 55:10happened. But.
- 55:12This is when they when they talked to the Samsung, they had
- 55:15a photo about this stuff. The Samsung CEO, I thought gave
- 55:18a pretty good answer, which was that we think people want to
- 55:22remember things the way they were in their head, not
- 55:25necessarily the way they actually were.
- 55:27And I was. Like I'm thinking.
- 55:29Fucking infuriates me but he's. Probably right, but that's to
- 55:32me, it's the it's because feelings are more important than
- 55:36facts now, just across the board.
- 55:38That's why when you go to your weather app, it doesn't tell you
- 55:40what the weather is. It tells you what it feels like.
- 55:42It factors in the humidity. And it's like this is this is
- 55:46not, this is 2025 bullshit. It's no, this is, I think it's
- 55:50nice to get photos because the photos more so to remind you of
- 55:53what was there and in your mind you're going to remember a bit
- 55:56differently and. It's not reminding you of what
- 55:59was there. It's it's fake.
- 56:01That's why it's reminding you of what you wanted it to.
- 56:03Be I really don't remember on this.
- 56:06At fucking 8 AMI took photos and there were no people in them and
- 56:09there really were no people. But like now it's like were
- 56:13there or did I just remove them later like?
- 56:16I'd much rather. I just started like. 4:00 AM to
- 56:19go to anchor. What to get sunrise photos.
- 56:21There are people absolutely everywhere.
- 56:25That's not the part I want to remember.
- 56:26I want to remember this beautiful sunrise shop and I
- 56:32don't. I don't want to be reminded.
- 56:33Of his pack, you're you're creating a fake one.
- 56:36Well, no, because. I know, I know.
- 56:38What if he painted? If he stuck stuck up an easel
- 56:41and painted, he's not going to paint every tourist in, is he?
- 56:45My memory isn't about the people, the thousands of people
- 56:48that were there. My memory is about Angkor Wat.
- 56:52Yeah, and the beautiful women that were swimming in the.
- 56:55Water in the water that I was just taking photos of.
- 57:00Someone's photoshopping you out of photos.
- 57:03Actually, no, I've had quite a few people ask for photos with
- 57:06me. Oh yeah, they'll be adding you
- 57:09into their photos. Yeah, yeah.
- 57:11There's Add Me and then there's Add Luke.
- 57:13That's the other button. They're getting this 100 times
- 57:16zoom. I think that on Reddit some
- 57:18people posted examples of it that were very funny because it
- 57:20will turn things into things that they are not.
- 57:23For example there. Was one where they zoomed in and
- 57:25there was just a bit of tree sticking up behind something and
- 57:28it turned it into an eagle. And so there was just an eagle
- 57:31in the photo. Now that did not exist and I
- 57:34just find the whole thing very dystopian.
- 57:37I think that I'm a fan of. It is so you can zoom in and
- 57:43then if you if you can't read something, you can zoom all the
- 57:45way in and it'll enhance the thickness.
- 57:47But is that what it actually says?
- 57:49Or is that Yeah, I wouldn't trust.
- 57:50That it fucking came up with like.
- 57:54I think that's what we've been talking about now.
- 57:59My my sort of my team's profile pic is AI generated because when
- 58:04I when I switched over to my management role that I'm
- 58:08currently in, they were like, so you need to change your pic.
- 58:12It's like it was a pixel the pixel version of me before.
- 58:18You need to be more professional now.
- 58:20And I added myself a. Little bit more professional,
- 58:22but I don't like I don't wear like this is the poshest shirt I
- 58:27own. Do you know what I mean?
- 58:27Like I don't have yeah, businessy type stuff.
- 58:31So I did have I just looked in my phone for a decent picture of
- 58:34myself, like where I liked the way I looked and the lighting
- 58:37and I literally just opened it up in ChatGPT and said fucking
- 58:40put a shirt on me and it did. And that's my picture.
- 58:43But it's not a picture of me. It's it's what AI thinks I might
- 58:46look like in that shirt. Like so you know the lines are
- 58:52blurry. I just find it all very strange.
- 58:57Like I said, I don't. No, it is strange, I agree with
- 58:59that. Yeah, that whole adding yourself
- 59:02into photos, I don't know if I like that.
- 59:04I feel like that's. It's funny because a girl asked
- 59:06me to do that 15 years ago, that she was like, you know, the girl
- 59:10at my work was like, do you know how to use Photoshop?
- 59:11I said yeah. And she said my friends all went
- 59:14out without me. Can you Photoshop me into this
- 59:17picture? I guess, yeah, I don't know.
- 59:23So she just wanted it was a really nice picture of all her
- 59:25friends and she just wished she was in it.
- 59:26It wasn't so that she could pretend she was someplace or
- 59:29anything, she just wanted that photo to exist.
- 59:31I think the idea behind it is like if you're out with a group
- 59:33of people and there's no one else to help take the group
- 59:35photo for you, you take the photo, someone then takes a
- 59:38photo with you, and then you sure shared experience like you
- 59:41were all there. Yeah, I guess you're right.
- 59:45That's pretty funny. I guess I'm just thinking about
- 59:47it differently. Like my photo my, because I'm
- 59:50having, I just have trouble wrapping my brain around that
- 59:52because I'm like, to me, a photo is like a, like it's a, you
- 59:57know, literally a recording of physical reality.
- 1:00:01Whereas now they're not. They're like.
- 1:00:04Vibes almost like. An artist's impression of that
- 1:00:09moment. Yeah, this is what it.
- 1:00:11This is what it felt like that night.
- 1:00:13Not like, yeah, this is literally what fucking happened.
- 1:00:15And I guess you're right. Arguably that might be better
- 1:00:17because I look back on photos like, oh, that was a really good
- 1:00:20night out. I look at the photos and I go.
- 1:00:21Fucking hell yeah. We are we are fucking trash bags
- 1:00:26like so I don't know. I just find it very, like I
- 1:00:31said, hard to, I wrap my head around and then like this, this
- 1:00:35100 times zoom thing and it's going, oh, it's great.
- 1:00:36It's like just zoom zoom. No, it's not zooming in.
- 1:00:39It literally just makes it up. Yeah, like that I that I agree
- 1:00:42with you on that one. If it's just making it up,
- 1:00:45that's not capturing anything and making a change that's.
- 1:00:48Just fabrication. Like it's like, yeah, that's
- 1:00:51probably this. That's yeah.
- 1:00:52But I just find it very weird. Welcome to the future.
- 1:00:57Yeah. Apparently where nothing is
- 1:01:01real. You know where things are real,
- 1:01:06The after party. You know what's going to be in
- 1:01:08the other party. Not me.
- 1:01:13So if you like the idea of a bit of this show but without Luke

- 1:01:38Don't think so did. He was he in jail?
- 1:01:39I think he still. Enjoyed one of the two, right?
- 1:01:41Yeah. I forget who's dead and who's in
- 1:01:44jail. That's all for this week.
