- 0:03Speaker 1: Wake up.
- 0:05Speaker 1: next.
- 0:06Speaker 1: Kicking off your day in the best way, it's Sonnya
- 0:09Speaker 1: and Joakim on the shock circuit.
- 0:12Speaker 1: And welcome, welcome back to the show. And you know what?
- 0:15Speaker 1: It's the weekend. We're so excited it's here. The weekend
- 0:18Speaker 1: is also here. Oh yeah, that's true. Oh my gosh,
- 0:20Speaker 1: she's performing tonight. Yeah, we're going to the concert. Let's go.
- 0:23Speaker 1: We are going to kick it off here with Dominic Pike.
- 0:26Speaker 1: Stay tuned. Singapore's number one hit music station.
- 0:32Speaker 1: Taylor Swift with Love Story right here on 987, Singapore's
- 0:35Speaker 1: number one hit music station and um just the perfect
- 0:38Speaker 1: song and artist to come out from because she recently
- 0:41Speaker 1: got married and she was addressed by Mrs. Kelsey for
- 0:46Speaker 1: the very first time on the red carpet, to which
- 0:48Speaker 1: I think she broke out into a bit of a chuckle.
- 0:51Speaker 1: I don't know. I mean, if I were Taylor Swift.
- 0:54Speaker 1: And you call me Mrs. Kelsey. She's Mrs. Kelsey, I
- 0:58Speaker 1: mean she is, but she didn't legally change her last
- 1:01Speaker 1: name or what. I mean, neither did I, but if
- 1:03Speaker 1: someone calls me by like a Mr. Song, I will
- 1:05Speaker 1: still respond. OK. Was was was Travis Kelsey with her?
- 1:09Speaker 1: So they say Mr. and Mrs. Kelsey. No, no, no,
- 1:11Speaker 1: she was there. If I'm not wrong, was it VMAs
- 1:13Speaker 1: or something, I think, and I think they just said
- 1:15Speaker 1: it as like, hey, Mrs. Kelsey.
- 1:17Speaker 1: Here, look at that, and then she looked and she
- 1:19Speaker 1: chuckled actually she laughed, but I must say there was
- 1:21Speaker 1: a moment of Zendaya. I think it was the Emmy's
- 1:24Speaker 1: red carpet where she was really serving looks and then
- 1:27Speaker 1: someone said, Hey, Mrs. Holland, and she smiled. Yeah, she
- 1:29Speaker 1: smiled too. Yeah. So I think both of them are
- 1:31Speaker 1: in a good place, you know, it's not like, oh,
- 1:33Speaker 1: you can't, can't say that because I didn't legally change
- 1:35Speaker 1: my name. I think they still don't mind it. Fair enough.
- 1:38Speaker 1: And it's a very recent thing.
- 1:40Speaker 1: So she's probably still like in that marriage bliss kind
- 1:42Speaker 1: of moment. As long as the artists feel as if
- 1:45Speaker 1: they did not lose their identity, it's good. It's Taylor Swift.
- 1:48Speaker 1: She's never gonna lose her identity, bro. That's true. You're
- 1:51Speaker 1: absolutely right. Like I said, um, speaking of not learning lessons,
- 1:56Speaker 1: it seems like, you know, even though we are very
- 1:58Speaker 1: evolved as humans and we, we should know the right etiquette,
- 2:02Speaker 1: especially on
- 2:03Speaker 1: Aircrafts, airplanes, don't give us too much credit. I don't
- 2:07Speaker 1: give us too much credit, OK, because every time I
- 2:10Speaker 1: feel like, oh yeah, we've evolved, you see something that feels,
- 2:12Speaker 1: you know, it has set us back and you're wondering
- 2:14Speaker 1: like why would this person just not comply, right? So
- 2:17Speaker 1: as you know, when you, when you
- 2:19Speaker 1: bought a flight, for example, especially if it's not like
- 2:21Speaker 1: a full big carrier, like, you know, like um your
- 2:26Speaker 1: Singapore Airlines kind of flight or any other big airlines, right? Um,
- 2:30Speaker 1: they're they're pretty strict about your cabin luggage, for example, OK?
- 2:35Speaker 1: And if you're only carrying on your cabin luggage and stuff,
- 2:38Speaker 1: you got to make sure that it fits into the
- 2:39Speaker 1: overhead compartment, right? Singapore Airlines, and they will try their
- 2:47Speaker 1: best to accommodate you. I've seen videos of other countries'
- 2:51Speaker 1: airlines where they
- 2:53Speaker 1: put your bag inside this little thing to see if
- 2:55Speaker 1: it fits, right? It cannot fit, you are done. You're out. Yeah,
- 2:59Speaker 1: you have to check your bag in. So what happened was, um,
- 3:02Speaker 1: this was on Batik Airlines, OK, and it does look
- 3:05Speaker 1: like a smaller carrier. Um, this woman insisted on carrying
- 3:09Speaker 1: a cardboard box the size of a cabin luggage or
- 3:13Speaker 1: might have been even slightly bigger actually, but she refused
- 3:16Speaker 1: to put it anywhere in proper storage. She wanted to
- 3:18Speaker 1: put it on her lap. She insisted.
- 3:21Speaker 1: The airline crew said, no, this is dangerous, that you
- 3:24Speaker 1: can't have. Imagine you want to put your cabin luggage
- 3:26Speaker 1: on your lap and you refuse to put it anywhere else. No,
- 3:29Speaker 1: you can't do that. It's the same size. It's the
- 3:30Speaker 1: same size, but it's a cardboard box, OK. She refused
- 3:33Speaker 1: to give it to the airline crew for safekeeping.
- 3:36Speaker 1: And she didn't want to comply with putting it anywhere else.
- 3:39Speaker 1: And when she failed to do so multiple times, guess
- 3:41Speaker 1: what happened? Flight delay. Flight delay, and she was escorted
- 3:45Speaker 1: off the plane eventually, to which I think people were
- 3:47Speaker 1: very happy because they were being interviewed and all that
- 3:50Speaker 1: because the plane was heading from Singapore to KL. It
- 3:52Speaker 1: was a very short flight. Like just let us go
- 3:55Speaker 1: home or let us go on our trip, you know.
- 3:58Speaker 1: Um, unfortunately, yeah, delayed and, uh, they, they eventually removed
- 4:03Speaker 1: her entirely from the plane with the help of the police.
- 4:05Speaker 1: Can I ask, what was inside the box? No, that was,
- 4:10Speaker 1: so that's the interesting thing. They did not reveal what
- 4:13Speaker 1: was in the cardboard box. I'm guessing it's still under preview.
- 4:18Speaker 1: investigation. They didn't use the word investigation just yet because
- 4:22Speaker 1: they removed her from the plane. I'm, I'm sure they
- 4:24Speaker 1: questioned her when she got off. Maybe it's stacks of cash.
- 4:28Speaker 1: She wants to protect them. No, but she would have
- 4:30Speaker 1: gone through the scanner already. That's quite true. Yeah, because
- 4:33Speaker 1: before you even, there's one more security check. So they
- 4:36Speaker 1: will know what's inside. Not trying to defend the woman here,
- 4:41Speaker 1: but I want to know what was inside the cardboard box.
- 4:44Speaker 1: My guess is that it's like something fragile, like maybe um.
- 4:48Speaker 1: You know, sometimes people want to hand carry food or
- 4:51Speaker 1: something back or like a very.
- 4:55Speaker 1: Expensive, timeless piece of ornament, no, it could be a
- 5:00Speaker 1: giant cake or something. At this point both of us
- 5:04Speaker 1: are in the, yeah, yeah, I'll be interested to know
- 5:07Speaker 1: what was inside. And just in case anyone's interested, Batik
- 5:11Speaker 1: Air is an Indonesian scheduled airline headquartered in the Sokota
- 5:17Speaker 1: International Airport in Jakarta.
- 5:19Speaker 1: And they are a full service division of the Lion
- 5:21Speaker 1: Air Group. There you go. I think I've seen some rassic,
- 5:30Speaker 1: you see the plane taking off. Yeah. Anyway, regardless, hoping
- 5:33Speaker 1: that you have some plans lined up very soon. Yeah.
- 5:38Speaker 1: It's so funny. I just got tagged in a story
- 5:41Speaker 1: just like yesterday, but I don't know if I can.
- 5:44Speaker 1: I don't know if I can still locate it. Um,
- 5:46Speaker 1: it was someone that actually managed to call us through
- 5:50Speaker 1: the school dedications like not too long ago, requesting for
- 5:53Speaker 1: a Cortis song, and then now apparently, um, she's gonna
- 5:57Speaker 1: catch Cortis in, in person. Oh, that's great. I think
- 6:00Speaker 1: her maybe her family managed to get tickets or something.
- 6:02Speaker 1: I don't know. Beautiful. Let me, I'll try and find
- 6:05Speaker 1: it later. That said, of course, tonight and tomorrow.
- 6:08Speaker 1: For the weekend live in Singapore and yesterday I think
- 6:12Speaker 1: his XO team was really just scouting out the national
- 6:16Speaker 1: stadium area because there were some VIP merch drops and
- 6:20Speaker 1: if you had the correct ticket, you can go there
- 6:22Speaker 1: and shop for his merch. People were in the queue
- 6:24Speaker 1: at 3:30 p.m. Some of them only got the merch
- 6:27Speaker 1: at 9:30 p.m. That was how long the queue was.
- 6:31Speaker 1: So I think the kampong spirit was there. People was like, Hey,
- 6:34Speaker 1: can I go to the toilet? Can you watch my
- 6:35Speaker 1: sport for me, please? They're doing all that, buying each
- 6:38Speaker 1: other food. It's nice to see because for a concert
- 6:41Speaker 1: here in Singapore, it's not just for Singaporeans. I think
- 6:44Speaker 1: our friends from Malaysia, Indonesia, Brunei, Thailand, Vietnam, they will
- 6:47Speaker 1: all come to Singapore to watch a certain artist perform
- 6:51Speaker 1: he's not that many. Southeast Asia, are we the only stop?
- 6:55Speaker 1: I mean, I can't recall. I know he performed in Tokyo.
- 6:59Speaker 1: OK, he's here in Singapore. But in this immediate region
- 7:02Speaker 1: of Singapore, I mean, Tokyo is still quite far away
- 7:04Speaker 1: from us, technically. 56 hour flight. Yeah, but I'm saying
- 7:07Speaker 1: like for, you know, us like Malaysians, um, Singaporeans, even
- 7:10Speaker 1: the Thai, our Thai friends or Indonesians, right? Singapore is
- 7:14Speaker 1: definitely closer, you know. You know what I'm curious. Let's see, OK.
- 7:17Speaker 1: The weekend concert schedule.
- 7:20Speaker 1: Yeah, I think it's only here in this region, yeah. Anyway, uh,
- 7:23Speaker 1: we might see you tonight if you're going tonight as well,
- 7:25Speaker 1: but for now, we would love to open up phone
- 7:27Speaker 1: lines 669-11987 or drop us a message 90050987. Get a
- 7:34Speaker 1: song request in, maybe a dedication to kick off your weekend.
- 7:38Speaker 1: Just in case we stand a bit corrected after Singapore.
- 7:41Speaker 1: Singapore, he's going to Korea, then Bangkok, Hong Kong, KL. Oh, OK, OK, cool.
- 7:47Speaker 1: Maybe people just want to watch it multiple times. Let's
- 7:49Speaker 1: see Malaysian and Indonesian friends. Yeah. We are down to
- 7:53Speaker 1: read your messages right now for dedications. Thank you so
- 7:56Speaker 1: much for texting us in. I want to say hello
- 7:58Speaker 1: to Emma.
- 7:59Speaker 1: Emma says, hello Sonia and Joakim. I just wanted to
- 8:02Speaker 1: wish my sister all the best for her end of
- 8:04Speaker 1: years and that I trust she's gonna do great in them.
- 8:08Speaker 1: Would you be able to play Circada by Good Kid?
- 8:11Speaker 1: My sister's name is Elise and she's in sec 20,
- 8:14Speaker 1: sec 2 already. OK, nice. Well, you know what, takes
- 8:16Speaker 1: us back to the times that we had to do exams.
- 8:19Speaker 1: Hang in there, it'll be over soon. Can I ask
- 8:21Speaker 1: when you were in
- 8:21Speaker 1: Sec 2, right? You know how they say, oh, you
- 8:23Speaker 1: must choose your subject combo wisely. Did you already know
- 8:28Speaker 1: what you wanted to do in sec 3? Yeah, sort of.
- 8:30Speaker 1: I knew that I was strong in humanities, so I'm
- 8:32Speaker 1: going there, but I don't know if that's how, I
- 8:35Speaker 1: don't know if we could choose. We were just kind
- 8:36Speaker 1: of like streamed into those classes based on the subjects
- 8:40Speaker 1: you were good at. OK, because for me I had
- 8:42Speaker 1: to choose between physics chem chem bio. Oh, OK, no,
- 8:47Speaker 1: I unfortunately I didn't have a choice. I had to
- 8:49Speaker 1: do all.
- 8:51Speaker 1: I just, I don't know, I somehow blank out when
- 8:53Speaker 1: I think back about how we got streamed in. I
- 8:56Speaker 1: don't think I had a choice. And it was, but
- 9:01Speaker 1: I chose accounting and I loved it so much. OK, alright,
- 9:04Speaker 1: I did not have that in sec 3. It's math. Oh,
- 9:08Speaker 1: that was a nightmare. Thank you for your service, dude.
- 9:10Speaker 1: I didn't know what was going on half the time.
- 9:12Speaker 1: I still don't know. I feel like Michelle Yeoh in
- 9:15Speaker 1: Crazy Rich Asians. Oh dear, when I say this.
- 9:21Speaker 1: OK, so I am half Hokkien. That means own people. Yeah,
- 9:24Speaker 1: she has this scene where Constances, the actress in Crazy
- 9:32Speaker 1: Rich Asians, yeah, about how people only their own kind,
- 9:36Speaker 1: you know, in the family when it comes to the
- 9:38Speaker 1: son and all that and I got reminded of that
- 9:41Speaker 1: phrase when I read about what GovTech are doing.
- 9:45Speaker 1: Let's go. OK, so they have launched this dating platform
- 9:50Speaker 1: for Singapore public offices. I don't know whether should I
- 9:53Speaker 1: say Singapore public offices first or only because maybe it
- 9:59Speaker 1: could be a test bed for what's to come in
- 10:01Speaker 1: the future. You never know. phase or something, yeah. So
- 10:04Speaker 1: it's called first date. So cute, honestly, OK. It is
- 10:08Speaker 1: limited to unmarried public officers.
- 10:11Speaker 1: Age 21 to 35 and you actually sign in with
- 10:16Speaker 1: not creating an account, no, you sign in with SingPass. Oh,
- 10:19Speaker 1: of course, because you need to be legit, yeah, and
- 10:22Speaker 1: you answer 30 questions covering lifestyle, interests, food, travel, and
- 10:28Speaker 1: relationship preferences, and you get one recommended match per cycle
- 10:33Speaker 1: and it only happens once a month. Actually, you know.
- 10:35Speaker 1: I feel this is a good thing because for the
- 10:38Speaker 1: longest time we've been talking about the legitimacy of a
- 10:40Speaker 1: lot of dating apps. And, and the unfortunate thing is,
- 10:44Speaker 1: it's not even the app's fault sometimes because they set
- 10:46Speaker 1: out to do something good to connect people, but people
- 10:49Speaker 1: abuse the system and use it to scam others, you know,
- 10:53Speaker 1: or to like, just look for non-serious types of relationships
- 10:57Speaker 1: or set up FA meetings. Yeah, exactly.
- 11:01Speaker 1: So now that you have to tie in your SingPass,
- 11:05Speaker 1: which we have been saying for the longest time, not
- 11:07Speaker 1: just for dating apps, but even for like purchase of
- 11:09Speaker 1: concert tickets, for example, could this really be the next
- 11:13Speaker 1: way that we date? You have to register your SingPass.
- 11:16Speaker 1: So it gets more interesting and this is where I
- 11:18Speaker 1: get a little bit lost because I'm not too familiar
- 11:20Speaker 1: with algorithms and math and science and all that, but
- 11:23Speaker 1: apparently if you
- 11:24Speaker 1: Wondering how are they going to match people, it's going
- 11:27Speaker 1: to be used by a Nobel Prize associates mathematical framework
- 11:32Speaker 1: called the Gale-Shapley stable marriage algorithm. You lost me halfway. Exactly. Wow,
- 11:39Speaker 1: but it sounds very intricate. Yeah, yeah, yeah. It sounds
- 11:42Speaker 1: very bad by math and science and algorithms. This is
- 11:46Speaker 1: where I get to the point.
- 11:48Speaker 1: Vacations close on October 5th. GovTech is not disclosed on
- 11:51Speaker 1: how many people have signed up already, but OK. In
- 11:55Speaker 1: another universe, Sonia, if you are still single and Media Corp,
- 11:59Speaker 1: we launch a dating platform for Media Corp staff only. How? Hey, why? Hey,
- 12:04Speaker 1: you get, you get the Channel 8 stars. You get
- 12:06Speaker 1: the Sua stars. No, no, no, I mean, we already
- 12:09Speaker 1: know all of them. That one I do need an app.
- 12:11Speaker 1: We know the artists. It's actually the people in the
- 12:15Speaker 1: office because we've got so many people working in Media
- 12:17Speaker 1: Corp that we've probably never met, right, but we only
- 12:19Speaker 1: see them on email. So if Sonia Chew were a
- 12:22Speaker 1: Singapore officer, would you get the app and try? I
- 12:26Speaker 1: wouldn't mind actually. I think I wouldn't mind. I feel
- 12:30Speaker 1: like because of the fact that we haven't seen a
- 12:32Speaker 1: lot of our Media Corp stuff, there could be some
- 12:34Speaker 1: cutie pies there.
- 12:37Speaker 1: That could be, honestly, that could be a cutie pie
- 12:40Speaker 1: in studios or something. I don't know. OK, let's just
- 12:43Speaker 1: say if you are working for the Ministry of Environment, yes, OK,
- 12:49Speaker 1: and you match with someone also from the Ministry of Sustainability,
- 12:53Speaker 1: sustainability and Environment, would you date within the same ministry
- 12:56Speaker 1: or look for someone outside your ministry? OK, so do
- 12:59Speaker 1: I want a challenge or not? If I just want
- 13:01Speaker 1: peace in my life, I'll date the sustainability person. So
- 13:05Speaker 1: we're aligned.
- 13:06Speaker 1: OK lah, let's, uh, pair you up with someone from MINDEF. OK,
- 13:11Speaker 1: let's go. At this point, nothing surprises us anymore. It's OK. Chew,
- 13:17Speaker 1: she's having you calling my name.
- 13:19Speaker 1: Sorry. She's having a cottage cheese and biscuit is it?
- 13:24Speaker 1: There you go. Anyway, um, I just want to say
- 13:27Speaker 1: before I get into the next story, I feel so
- 13:30Speaker 1: bad that I missed this yesterday, first of October, OK.
- 13:33Speaker 1: Apparently it was National Black Dog Day, and I did
- 13:37Speaker 1: not wish my family dog happy National Black Dog Day.
- 13:42Speaker 1: I did quite upset about that. See, it's official post.
- 13:45Speaker 1: From what account?
- 13:48Speaker 1: Can you please make it make sense what account posted this?
- 13:51Speaker 1: Tell us now. Come on, Sonia.
- 13:54Speaker 1: I don't actually follow this account. It just popped out
- 13:57Speaker 1: my feed. I don't know, maybe they know I have
- 13:58Speaker 1: a black dog. The name is Sketchy Hounds.
- 14:04Speaker 1: You're, you're the reason, right? Why they always have all
- 14:07Speaker 1: these be vigilant on the internet, watch out for fake
- 14:10Speaker 1: news and scams fake news. See, October 1st is National
- 14:16Speaker 1: Black Dog Day. I cannot hear me out, hear me out.
- 14:19Speaker 1: I cannot as you speak, I'm gonna type it into Google.
- 14:22Speaker 1: October 1st is Dog.
- 14:24Speaker 1: Dog Day, a day to raise awareness of all the
- 14:27Speaker 1: wonderful black doggos out there because they are the least
- 14:30Speaker 1: likely to be adopted from the rescue pound. Please share
- 14:34Speaker 1: your black doggo pics in the comments and say hello.
- 14:37Speaker 1: This is a very real problem, Joakim. I, I just
- 14:39Speaker 1: have to say, OK? And I actually spoke to some
- 14:42Speaker 1: people who um run like rescue related.
- 14:45Speaker 1: Uh, organizations before and they did say that, I don't
- 14:48Speaker 1: know if it's an Asian thing, I guess not. Maybe
- 14:51Speaker 1: it's an international thing. For some reason, but especially in Asia,
- 14:56Speaker 1: sometimes people see black dogs or black cats even as
- 15:00Speaker 1: like a bad omen, you know what I mean? So
- 15:04Speaker 1: that could be the reason why they don't want to
- 15:06Speaker 1: adopt um a black dog, a black dog or a cat.
- 15:09Speaker 1: No, no, no, I don't know. I must say Sirius
- 15:12Speaker 1: Black in Harry Potter's a universal thing has changed my
- 15:15Speaker 1: mind about black dogs. Yeah, yeah, so anyway, I want
- 15:19Speaker 1: to actually come out and apologize publicly. It's Black Dog Day, right?
- 15:24Speaker 1: A lot of the dog pages that we have on
- 15:27Speaker 1: the internet and also your meme pages or your dog
- 15:30Speaker 1: Instagram accounts, they officially acknowledge October 1st.
- 15:34Speaker 1: Black Dog Day. See, I told you it's not just because,
- 15:39Speaker 1: just because I told you that you say it's fake
- 15:41Speaker 1: news and because the name is Sketchy Hounds. On behalf
- 15:44Speaker 1: of the other dog breeds, is there a Labrador Retriever
- 15:48Speaker 1: Day or Goldie Day? Well, I don't know, maybe there is,
- 15:51Speaker 1: but it's, but this is Black Dog Day because it's
- 15:54Speaker 1: justice for black dogs. Everyone loves a Goldie.
- 15:59Speaker 1: Everyone loves a golden retriever. You don't need to raise
- 16:02Speaker 1: more awareness about that. In that case, we need to
- 16:04Speaker 1: find a Singapore. How about that? Yes, I, I hope
- 16:08Speaker 1: maybe one of the organizations have started it. I don't know.
- 16:12Speaker 1: But yeah, that would be, that would be really cool.
- 16:14Speaker 1: Fun fact, the dog that I actually wanted to adopt, uh,
- 16:18Speaker 1: my family and I wanted to adopt in the beginning
- 16:19Speaker 1: was a Singapore special, um, and he's also black. It's
- 16:23Speaker 1: a black Singapore special and we wanted so cute, honestly,
- 16:27Speaker 1: so adorable, but he was way too big for HDB
- 16:30Speaker 1: so he couldn't.
- 16:34Speaker 1: Singapore special day. SPCA, you're up. Come on guys. Oh actually,
- 16:38Speaker 1: there's a lot of other dog, um, organizations that can
- 16:42Speaker 1: help as well. OK, well, sending all our doggos love
- 16:45Speaker 1: this morning, doesn't matter what breed or what's the background
- 16:48Speaker 1: or anything. If you have a dog at home or
- 16:50Speaker 1: if you have an animal, give that animal a hug
- 16:52Speaker 1: right now. Yeah, please give Maxi a hug on my behalf.
- 16:54Speaker 1: I was gonna give you a hug. Yes.
- 16:57Speaker 1: As in what give Maxi a hug. Give you a hug. Yes,
- 17:01Speaker 1: you're my pet at work. A dating app scam that
- 17:05Speaker 1: was really quite elaborate. I would have never thought of this. OK,
- 17:08Speaker 1: so what, what are the first things you would think
- 17:10Speaker 1: of when you think of like dating app scams, for example?
- 17:14Speaker 1: If the girl is too pretty to be true, chances
- 17:17Speaker 1: are it's probably not true.
- 17:20Speaker 1: Well, you're not entirely wrong. A profile picture. But what
- 17:21Speaker 1: do you think the, you know, these people that uses
- 17:34Speaker 1: and stuff? I mean, you, can you lend me money
- 17:40Speaker 1: or borrow money or for example, you agree to meet
- 17:44Speaker 1: Catfish, but you must still pay for the date. If not,
- 17:48Speaker 1: I threaten you, I put you on Reddit, put you
- 17:50Speaker 1: on the stomp. Wow man asked me out for a
- 17:54Speaker 1: date but never pay for the date. How stingy are you? Actually,
- 17:57Speaker 1: you know, one of my friends, he experienced this before
- 18:01Speaker 1: where he actually met a girl and he's a normal dude,
- 18:04Speaker 1: like a fun dude, you know, likes to hang out,
- 18:07Speaker 1: you know him actually.
- 18:08Speaker 1: So then he, he went out on a date and
- 18:11Speaker 1: uh it was fine. It seemed OK, like the girl
- 18:14Speaker 1: was how she looked like in the profile picture. She
- 18:17Speaker 1: proceeds to order like one of the most expensive bottles
- 18:20Speaker 1: of champagne. Oh yeah, there we go on the menu
- 18:23Speaker 1: and she insists that she can finish it.
- 18:26Speaker 1: Like she's like, yeah, yeah, two of us, yeah, sure.
- 18:28Speaker 1: He's like, are you sure? We're just like kind of
- 18:29Speaker 1: chilling out on a first date kind of vibe. And
- 18:32Speaker 1: he ended up having to pay for it because it just,
- 18:34Speaker 1: it got opened already. Uh, by the way, it's not
- 18:36Speaker 1: gender specific for sure, for sure, and everything else. Well,
- 18:41Speaker 1: exactly like what happened here. This man allegedly, and I
- 18:45Speaker 1: say allegedly because it's still being investigated, but I think
- 18:48Speaker 1: the case is pretty much firming up right now. This
- 18:51Speaker 1: man allegedly, um, poses as women.
- 18:55Speaker 1: On dating apps, so our greatest fears do come true.
- 18:58Speaker 1: Like this guy is just pretending to be a girl,
- 19:01Speaker 1: and um he lures victims into these mahjong games that
- 19:05Speaker 1: are rigged. OK. This is why I say it's so elaborate.
- 19:10Speaker 1: Imagine a rigged mahjong game where they say 99% win
- 19:16Speaker 1: rate lah. Look, we always like, you know, play together,
- 19:18Speaker 1: we win so much. Come, let's like, you know, meet
- 19:20Speaker 1: and stuff like that.
- 19:21Speaker 1: When the victim goes down, obviously the con is there.
- 19:24Speaker 1: They're all, um, in cahoots to win money from this victim.
- 19:28Speaker 1: So everything is rigged. The whole game is rigged. And
- 19:30Speaker 1: I can't believe this happened here in Singapore. The next
- 19:33Speaker 1: thing that I was just face palming about is that
- 19:36Speaker 1: like the fact that you agreed to go on a date, right,
- 19:38Speaker 1: it's a mahjong-related date. That's something I would never go
- 19:41Speaker 1: for because I'm really bad at playing mahjong, so I'm
- 19:43Speaker 1: not the target audience for this, but there are very
- 19:46Speaker 1: big group.
- 19:46Speaker 1: People here that are good at playing mahjong, and they
- 19:48Speaker 1: may be interested to just find new friends to play with,
- 19:52Speaker 1: you know. OK, mahjong is sucks, but how does one
- 19:58Speaker 1: rig a mahjong game when you're supposed to wash the tiles, right?
- 20:03Speaker 1: So that's the thing, there's not too much information on
- 20:07Speaker 1: specifically how they rigged it which is still being looked
- 20:10Speaker 1: into right now, but
- 20:11Speaker 1: I'm guessing just like a card game, for example, you
- 20:15Speaker 1: can rig a card game. Honestly, yes, and this is
- 20:17Speaker 1: why I stopped playing poker I don't know unless it's
- 20:23Speaker 1: really a true friend of mine and all that and
- 20:24Speaker 1: we are all familiar but if it's someone else that
- 20:27Speaker 1: I don't.
- 20:28Speaker 1: No, bro, my friend is just, I won't go. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 20:30Speaker 1: I know what you mean because you don't know whether
- 20:32Speaker 1: to trust this person. And one clear example on how
- 20:35Speaker 1: people can be very good shufflers of the cards to
- 20:38Speaker 1: give themselves what they want. Look at Jeremy Tan. So,
- 20:41Speaker 1: the magician, he's so good. He's so good. So he,
- 20:45Speaker 1: so basically what you're saying is that, no, what I'm
- 20:48Speaker 1: saying is that just like how you would rig a
- 20:50Speaker 1: card game or poker game, you can do it in
- 20:52Speaker 1: mahjo game. I, I think you can. That's probably how
- 20:54Speaker 1: they did it.
- 20:54Speaker 1: But anyway, more details will be revealed very soon, I'm sure,
- 20:57Speaker 1: but this is quite an elaborate scheme, I would say.
- 21:00Speaker 1: Quite a few people fell for it and um I,
- 21:03Speaker 1: I think it's a good thing that now a police
- 21:06Speaker 1: report was made because one of the victims refused to
- 21:08Speaker 1: pay over $20,000 of losses to this bunch of people.
- 21:13Speaker 1: So then police report was made and now um they're
- 21:15Speaker 1: being investigated right now and I'm pretty sure that most
- 21:18Speaker 1: of them have been arrested already actually. Yeah. So, uh,
- 21:22Speaker 1: this is kind of crazy that
- 21:24Speaker 1: Our trust issues are just gonna get, you know, even
- 21:27Speaker 1: deeper after this. I was just trying to think of
- 21:30Speaker 1: a game that can't be rigged.
- 21:33Speaker 1: A game that can't be rigged. Let's just all go
- 21:36Speaker 1: back to playing scissors, paper, stone. Let's go. How do
- 21:40Speaker 1: you rig? For example, I'll tell you, you put stone,
- 21:43Speaker 1: then I go to the other player and you put scissors.
- 21:45Speaker 1: So who, why, why would you do that? So for example,
- 21:48Speaker 1: if I'm like the bookie, and I, OK, OK, OK
- 21:53Speaker 1: can be rigged. Yeah, actually, there's a very good career
- 21:57Speaker 1: for you next year. Gonna be catching that live tonight.
- 22:01Speaker 1: Yes, cannot wait, but we go from the weekend to
- 22:05Speaker 1: the typo scene all over the world now, yeah, OK,
- 22:09Speaker 1: but before I give you my thoughts on it, right,
- 22:12Speaker 1: I want to just say this pact that President Donald J. Trump.
- 22:17Speaker 1: And 6 of the biggest people in the tech industry.
- 22:21Speaker 1: I'm talking the CEO of Anthropic, CEO of Google, Meta, Nvidia, OpenAI,
- 22:27Speaker 1: and XAI. OK, Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg, Dario Amode, Sundar Pichai.
- 22:35Speaker 1: Jensen Huang and Greg Brockman, you know, I, I would do, I,
- 22:40Speaker 1: I wouldn't mind paying a sum, right, to sit in
- 22:42Speaker 1: that room just for a while. So President Trump has
- 22:45Speaker 1: called this a morally binding pact to ensure that, you know,
- 22:49Speaker 1: they use AI safely and all that, yeah. So if
- 22:54Speaker 1: it was just any other signing, I would think maybe
- 22:57Speaker 1: the world will go, ah yeah, OK, look at this,
- 23:00Speaker 1: you know, and nobody might even read what the pact says, OK.
- 23:05Speaker 1: But because of this one typo under President Trump's name,
- 23:09Speaker 1: where instead of saying United States, it says United States,
- 23:13Speaker 1: so everyone's pointing out that typo, but because of that
- 23:17Speaker 1: on the flip side, everyone now knows about the past
- 23:20Speaker 1: and they're talking about it. And here's the thing, do
- 23:23Speaker 1: you think this could have been planned by the team
- 23:26Speaker 1: of President Trump? Are you sure? OK, here's my, here's
- 23:29Speaker 1: my thought on why it's planned, OK.
- 23:32Speaker 1: Purposely put that typo and then you brief President Trump
- 23:36Speaker 1: and you say, see, we are using humans, we are
- 23:38Speaker 1: not using the AI, not as of yet. Yeah, but
- 23:41Speaker 1: that's why would you want a typo on your country.
- 23:46Speaker 1: Like that's just embarrassing to get the world talking about
- 23:49Speaker 1: your pact. I don't think they need a typo to
- 23:52Speaker 1: get the world talking about the pact. It was already become,
- 23:54Speaker 1: it was already like global headlines and like the reverse
- 23:57Speaker 1: psychology is to, you know, oh wow, the US, they
- 24:00Speaker 1: are in the forefront of guaranteeing AI safety and all that.
- 24:03Speaker 1: I really think this is the difference between an overthinker
- 24:06Speaker 1: and a person who doesn't overthink.
- 24:07Speaker 1: But I, I feel nothing is coincidence anymore. No, but
- 24:11Speaker 1: the thing is, if they wanted to do something to
- 24:14Speaker 1: draw attention, I don't think a typo in your country
- 24:16Speaker 1: is the way to go. So in that case, that's
- 24:18Speaker 1: just not smart. Why would you do that on purpose?
- 24:21Speaker 1: In that case, is gonna get fired, is it? And
- 24:24Speaker 1: my question is, how many, how come it vetted through
- 24:27Speaker 1: so many people, I'm assuming, and no one caught it.
- 24:32Speaker 1: I mean, I'm so interested to know that because as
- 24:34Speaker 1: you know, right, sometimes when it comes to us even
- 24:36Speaker 1: approving our captions for clients, it may go through several
- 24:40Speaker 1: rounds of like approval and someone is bound to be like, OK,
- 24:43Speaker 1: pointing out the errors that we may not even have seen. OK,
- 24:46Speaker 1: if they were to use Microsoft Word to the document,
- 24:51Speaker 1: and are actually two separate words of their own. So
- 24:53Speaker 1: it might not detect the word as an error, so
- 24:55Speaker 1: nobody saw the red line there. No, but um, and
- 24:58Speaker 1: D are right next to each other, right? So.
- 25:01Speaker 1: It could have been an honest mistake, honest mistake, but
- 25:04Speaker 1: no one picked it up. So we go from that
- 25:06Speaker 1: to the worst typo you've ever made in your life.
- 25:09Speaker 1: Sonia Chew, go for it. I have an answer. I
- 25:12Speaker 1: don't actually. Let me, let me, let me, let me think.
- 25:14Speaker 1: You tell me yours first. OK. I think after I
- 25:17Speaker 1: say mine, just go and play the music straight away, OK?
- 25:19Speaker 1: And then open the phone lines. 669-11987 or 90050987. Have
- 25:24Speaker 1: a thought in mind. What is the worst typo you've made?
- 25:27Speaker 1: You ready? OK, so.
- 25:31Speaker 1: This happened maybe say 5 or 6 years ago, right? Uh,
- 25:35Speaker 1: it was just, uh, I think it was during COVID
- 25:37Speaker 1: and then we were catching up on Insta DM because
- 25:39Speaker 1: I think I posted something about masks and all that. So,
- 25:42Speaker 1: so this female friend of mine said, hey, you know, where,
- 25:45Speaker 1: where did you get this mask from? The design was
- 25:46Speaker 1: very nice. I said, Oh yeah, sure, here's the website. Hey,
- 25:49Speaker 1: you know, once all this is up, I wanted to.
- 25:51Speaker 1: Say let's hang soon. Yeah, OK, OK. The H and
- 25:57Speaker 1: the B are side by side. No, it's diagonally across
- 26:01Speaker 1: my on your phone. OK, sorry, sorry. So what came
- 26:05Speaker 1: up was, let's bang soon, which is, yeah, I know.
- 26:09Speaker 1: And I have to apologize. So on the topic of
- 26:12Speaker 1: the worst typo you've ever made in your life, inspired
- 26:15Speaker 1: by the typo scene all over the world, United States
- 26:18Speaker 1: in the AI safety pact signed by President Donald J.
- 26:22Speaker 1: Trump and the big, the big 6 of the tech industry.
- 26:26Speaker 1: Want to say good morning to sisters E Ting and
- 26:29Speaker 1: Li Ting. So Li Ting texts in saying, Hey Sonia
- 26:32Speaker 1: and Joakim, my sister is eating, and I don't call
- 26:35Speaker 1: her by her name. I always type in Hey Jie,
- 26:38Speaker 1: Hey Jie J I A, right, but somehow autocorrect, you
- 26:41Speaker 1: mean J I A, autocorrect always changes it to Hey Joe. What? What?
- 26:48Speaker 1: Hey Joe, I don't think it detects the tears a
- 26:51Speaker 1: word to the point now I keep calling her Joe,
- 26:53Speaker 1: but you know.
- 26:55Speaker 1: I think that you're, it can be trained, right? Like
- 26:58Speaker 1: if you just get it to forget the typo or
- 27:00Speaker 1: something or forget what they detect as an error. OK,
- 27:04Speaker 1: we have another one coming in from Jeslin. Jesly actually
- 27:08Speaker 1: shares a screenshot. Hey, so the message read, my bro
- 27:12Speaker 1: just confirmed celebrating my father's 80th birthday next year. Shall
- 27:16Speaker 1: we go Bangkok in December?
- 27:19Speaker 1: The reply was Buangkok. I can drive there very near Bangkok.
- 27:22Speaker 1: Got to take plane, laugh out loud. I can take
- 27:24Speaker 1: MIT go Bangkok also, not worse, but a fun typo.
- 27:28Speaker 1: I didn't realize until the next day. That's funny, dude.
- 27:31Speaker 1: That's funny. I mean, I'm surprised that you even typed Bangkok.
- 27:35Speaker 1: I thought Bangkok would be autocorrected to Bangkok actually. You're right, yeah.
- 27:39Speaker 1: There you go. That's cute. Well, keep your messages or
- 27:41Speaker 1: your calls coming through. 669-11987 or drop us a message
- 27:46Speaker 1: just like what happened earlier. You can send us a
- 27:48Speaker 1: screen grab too. That's quite funny from Jess. We're talking
- 27:50Speaker 1: about all the typos that you can recall and of course,
- 27:54Speaker 1: this is all inspired by the now very famous typo
- 27:58Speaker 1: that we all saw about United States being spelled as
- 28:02Speaker 1: United States for the AI safety pact. Um, sorry.
- 28:07Speaker 1: Just as you came on, this text came in and
- 28:10Speaker 1: after I read it very quickly, I just burst out laughing.
- 28:13Speaker 1: I want to say good morning to anonymous texter. OK.
- 28:15Speaker 1: So my boss and I bring food for lunch to
- 28:19Speaker 1: the office every day. So there was this one day
- 28:23Speaker 1: lunch was, we were ready for lunch and I wanted
- 28:25Speaker 1: to text him to join me. So instead of texting,
- 28:29Speaker 1: come eat with, come eat with me, I texted him,
- 28:34Speaker 1: come eat me.
- 28:36Speaker 1: Oh,
- 28:38Speaker 1: Oh,
- 28:39Speaker 1: What did he say? It was so embarrassing. I didn't
- 28:42Speaker 1: ask for a follow up, but yeah, I, I, I
- 28:44Speaker 1: think this was done before WhatsApp at the edit message function.
- 28:48Speaker 1: Or the delete function.
- 28:51Speaker 1: Yeah, I, I think your superiors and your managers or
- 28:54Speaker 1: maybe even your boss could be the worst people to
- 28:57Speaker 1: make typos to, especially for a typo like this. Yeah, dude,
- 29:01Speaker 1: I mean, this opens up another can of worms, right,
- 29:04Speaker 1: about sending things that you cannot take back, especially before
- 29:07Speaker 1: all your chat, um, platforms introduce the delete function. No,
- 29:12Speaker 1: no wonder people now prefer Telegram sometimes over WhatsApp because
- 29:16Speaker 1: Telegram allowed you to delete the message.
- 29:18Speaker 1: Uh, way before, yeah, yeah, you're right.
- 29:24Speaker 1: But you know, I think there's quite a lot of
- 29:27Speaker 1: dodgy stuff going on on Telegram sometimes or like, you know,
- 29:30Speaker 1: with all the groups and stuff. So yeah, for sure. Anyway, uh,
- 29:34Speaker 1: we're gonna get to your calls in just a bit.
- 29:36Speaker 1: I actually feel embarrassed for this texter, by the way,
- 29:39Speaker 1: me too, me too. I feel like, me too. I'm
- 29:41Speaker 1: flushing as well. Um, phone lines are still open. We're
- 29:44Speaker 1: gonna get to that in just a bit. 669-11987.
- 29:48Speaker 1: But I'll tell you a little spicy one here. I
- 29:51Speaker 1: wasn't the one that sent it, OK? And this is
- 29:53Speaker 1: not really a typo per se. It was a wrong message, but, well, loosely,
- 29:58Speaker 1: loosely related to this topic. I'm not gonna say anything
- 30:02Speaker 1: or say any names or what the content was, but
- 30:05Speaker 1: a long time ago when I was very new here
- 30:10Speaker 1: at the station, OK, a co-worker who's no longer working here.
- 30:15Speaker 1: sent me a picture that is definitely not meant for
- 30:19Speaker 1: anyone else but this person. OK, it was an accident.
- 30:22Speaker 1: I think this person was trying to forward it to
- 30:24Speaker 1: someone else, OK.
- 30:26Speaker 1: But you can only imagine what that picture was, alright.
- 30:29Speaker 1: It's just, it's not meant for anyone else to view
- 30:31Speaker 1: except this person, OK? So just shared with you, I've heard,
- 30:37Speaker 1: and he was very shocked. Let's keep it that way. Yeah,
- 30:40Speaker 1: and this was at a time where you couldn't delete messages. OK.
- 30:44Speaker 1: So I didn't really know what to say. Pretended like
- 30:47Speaker 1: I didn't see it. We're talking about typos. Look, in
- 30:52Speaker 1: a world of um
- 30:54Speaker 1: Texting and how we communicate so much by all our
- 30:57Speaker 1: texting platforms, our different platforms, right? Um, chances are, you
- 31:01Speaker 1: might have sent the wrong thing to the wrong person.
- 31:04Speaker 1: You might have had a typo, or this happened to
- 31:08Speaker 1: one of my friends before.
- 31:10Speaker 1: Talking bad about someone, right? Send to the wrong person.
- 31:13Speaker 1: Send to the person she was talking bad about, OK.
- 31:16Speaker 1: Be very careful, my friends, right? Especially when you're like forwarding,
- 31:22Speaker 1: I don't know, you're watching someone's story, you want to
- 31:24Speaker 1: say something like bad about it or whatever. I mean, look,
- 31:26Speaker 1: we're human. There's gonna be times where like you want
- 31:29Speaker 1: to comment about something and you want to share with
- 31:30Speaker 1: your friends, OK? Just please be really careful, like who
- 31:34Speaker 1: you're sending it to. This is very, very bad. Yeah, exactly. Um,
- 31:40Speaker 1: I think you just have to own up to it
- 31:41Speaker 1: and apologize. There's no other way to get out of it,
- 31:44Speaker 1: especially if the person has seen it.
- 31:46Speaker 1: Tracy is on the line. What about you? OK,
- 31:49Speaker 2: so like a couple of years ago, maybe I don't know,
- 31:51Speaker 2: 56 years ago when predictive tech first came out on
- 31:54Speaker 2: the WhatsApp, my phone kept also correcting my best friend's
- 31:57Speaker 2: name to Bob. Her name is Yvonne, so I would
- 32:00Speaker 2: type Vaughn, V O N.
- 32:02Speaker 2: But I don't know why the phone thinks it's Bob, BOB.
- 32:06Speaker 2: For the longest time, she'd just be Bob and I,
- 32:09Speaker 2: I got tired of autocorrect, of correcting the autocorrect, so
- 32:12Speaker 2: I just call her Bob. Hey Bob, what's up? Years,
- 32:15Speaker 2: years later, my kids now call her Auntie Bob.
- 32:18Speaker 1: Oh. So, like I asked you earlier, I'm going to
- 32:22Speaker 1: show you a picture.
- 32:23Speaker 1: Can you tell me whether this is real or not?
- 32:27Speaker 1: Let me put on my glasses. No, not AI glasses. OK.
- 32:32Speaker 1: Tell me, tell me, do you think this is real?
- 32:35Speaker 1: OK, let me describe the picture to our audience right now, OK?
- 32:39Speaker 1: It is, uh, it looks like a family photo, like
- 32:41Speaker 1: a family-run restaurant kind of situation, um, but Lewis Hamilton
- 32:44Speaker 1: is in the picture and the caption reads, Thank you
- 32:48Speaker 1: for stopping by. Good luck this weekend. By the way,
- 32:50Speaker 1: stop asking for my Amas nasi ulam recipe, OK? I'm
- 32:54Speaker 1: assuming that this could be, uh, the Malaysia leg of
- 32:57Speaker 1: F1 right now.
- 32:58Speaker 1: And that's where they're at. So a few things to
- 33:01Speaker 1: take note, yeah, it's publicly known that Lewis Hamilton is vegan.
- 33:06Speaker 1: That's that's what I told you just now in the
- 33:07Speaker 1: comment section unless you tell me that the nasi ulam
- 33:10Speaker 1: is strictly prepared specially for Lewis Hamilton following his vegan diet,
- 33:15Speaker 1: that's the first red flag.
- 33:17Speaker 1: Second red flag is, um, I'm looking at the account
- 33:20Speaker 1: right now. If Lewis Hamilton shows up to your house,
- 33:24Speaker 1: you can rest assured that there will be people taking videos,
- 33:28Speaker 1: Insta stories. You even do a TikTok video about it
- 33:31Speaker 1: as well. There's nothing on the Instagram about the Insta stories.
- 33:35Speaker 1: The thing is I'm trying to see whether it's like
- 33:37Speaker 1: a family restaurant.
- 33:39Speaker 1: or is it their house? I can't tell. It looks
- 33:41Speaker 1: like both. And thirdly, bro looks like a troll, like,
- 33:45Speaker 1: like someone who just does things for fun. So, OK,
- 33:47Speaker 1: that's the thing, um, majority of the comments are calling
- 33:50Speaker 1: it out to be AI, OK. That was the first
- 33:52Speaker 1: thing that I, I told you, right? Um, but secondly,
- 33:56Speaker 1: I think if you wanted to do something that is
- 33:59Speaker 1: tongue in cheek or funny.
- 34:01Speaker 1: Should there be a declaration that's, you know what I mean,
- 34:04Speaker 1: because I've been seeing a lot of, um, and this
- 34:08Speaker 1: is not targeting.
- 34:10Speaker 1: You know, small businesses or anything, but there are some
- 34:12Speaker 1: people that try and monetize based on like AI pictures
- 34:15Speaker 1: to say like, oh so and so dropped by, but
- 34:17Speaker 1: then after they get called out, it's, oh, it's AI,
- 34:19Speaker 1: then they just say, oh, it's a joke.
- 34:21Speaker 1: It's a joke, but I feel like you should be
- 34:23Speaker 1: declaring it from the beginning. The disclaimer should be there.
- 34:26Speaker 1: So for example, the caption can be there, but below
- 34:29Speaker 1: just kidding. There are some people that do that, like
- 34:33Speaker 1: some creators, they are actually their posts still go viral,
- 34:36Speaker 1: but they do hashtag like AI generated or something like
- 34:40Speaker 1: they at least declare it in their caption, yeah, yeah,
- 34:43Speaker 1: and the only thing.
- 34:45Speaker 1: That makes it look real is the lighting. It looks,
- 34:49Speaker 1: that's the thing. That's why I couldn't tell this AI. But,
- 34:51Speaker 1: but again, there are more red flags than green flags
- 34:54Speaker 1: for this one. And I also went down a rabbit hole.
- 34:58Speaker 1: I went to check out his stories. He didn't share
- 35:01Speaker 1: anything else.
- 35:01Speaker 1: Aside from that one picture, he didn't even reshare it
- 35:03Speaker 1: on IGF. Exactly. So I'm like, wouldn't you go to
- 35:06Speaker 1: town with it? Like, wouldn't you have more videos or
- 35:09Speaker 1: Louis eating or something? OK, that means next week I'm
- 35:12Speaker 1: going to take Valterri Bottas for miny chicken rice and Bishan. Yeah,
- 35:16Speaker 1: eat panmian, eat chai tai. Just take Kimmy Antonelli to
- 35:22Speaker 1: Caesarea or Pasta Mania.
- 35:24Speaker 1: He will kill me. I roll, I just rolled my eyes.
- 35:28Speaker 1: I literally just rolled my eyes. OK. Bring an actual
- 35:31Speaker 1: Italian and go and try some of these food. I'm
- 35:34Speaker 1: pretty sure they follow an extremely strict diet for sure.
- 35:36Speaker 1: I don't think they're gonna be like anyhow eating, you know,
- 35:38Speaker 1: over this period of time. I think Kimi would be
- 35:40Speaker 1: better off inti or something, you know what I mean,
- 35:42Speaker 1: the restaurant, yes. Oh, I'm pretty, I wouldn't be surprised
- 35:45Speaker 1: if they have their own chef that follows them, the
- 35:47Speaker 1: team chef. You're right. You're right. Magnus Ferrell about to play,
- 35:50Speaker 1: but um, just be very careful.
- 35:51Speaker 1: You're consuming out there because sometimes, you know, you talk
- 35:54Speaker 1: about fake reviews and all that. This in itself is
- 35:57Speaker 1: already like a review, you know, people will be curious
- 35:59Speaker 1: about the place. So be careful what you're consuming. Let's
- 36:02Speaker 1: see if Hamilton leaves a comment. He didn't. He didn't
- 36:05Speaker 1: like it either. Exactly. So that's another red flag. Yeah. OK,
- 36:09Speaker 1: so what's going on right now? OK, so Golden Horse
- 36:12Speaker 1: Award season around the corner, Ting Tian, and it is
- 36:17Speaker 1: one of the more prestigious.
- 36:19Speaker 1: awards that any Asian film can receive. So I want
- 36:24Speaker 1: to say congratulations to not one, not two, but 5
- 36:29Speaker 1: films from Singapore that have been nominated for the Golden
- 36:34Speaker 1: Horse Awards. Lovely. They are We Are All Strangers. Oh,
- 36:38Speaker 1: The Violinist, Our Girl, Bua, and She Said. Lovely. And
- 36:44Speaker 1: to break down some of the nominations.
- 36:46Speaker 1: Receive. We are all strangers. Wow. Best narrative feature, best director,
- 36:52Speaker 1: best leading actress, supporting actor, film editing, original film score,
- 36:58Speaker 1: makeup and costume design, the violinist getting best original film score,
- 37:02Speaker 1: adapted screenplay, Our Girl for Best Director, Best Performer, Boaf,
- 37:08Speaker 1: and she said for Best Live action Short Film. I'm
- 37:12Speaker 1: just summarizing some of the categories they are in.
- 37:15Speaker 1: but congratulations to these 5 films. I'm so proud. I mean,
- 37:18Speaker 1: this could be a new era for Singaporean films, because
- 37:22Speaker 1: I think for the longest time, you know, um, especially
- 37:24Speaker 1: the time that we, you know, grew up and maybe
- 37:26Speaker 1: even our parents' time, right? Pursuing film and pursuing the
- 37:29Speaker 1: media industry was not necessarily seen as something lucrative or
- 37:33Speaker 1: something worth investing in, which, of course, us being passionate
- 37:37Speaker 1: about the media, we wanna, we wanna go against the grain, right?
- 37:40Speaker 1: We're like I still want to pursue it.
- 37:42Speaker 1: So I'm so proud of them because it's about time
- 37:44Speaker 1: that Singaporean filmmakers shine. So I wonder whether they broadcast
- 37:48Speaker 1: the ceremony live given how we have so many Singapore
- 37:50Speaker 1: films and nominations now. So it will happen at the
- 37:54Speaker 1: Taipei Music Center, November 22nd. So all the best to
- 37:58Speaker 1: our Singaporean films and actress and crew and all that.
- 38:01Speaker 1: We're rooting for you. We can't wait to see the
- 38:03Speaker 1: red carpet moments and the wins, hopefully, um, but yeah,
- 38:07Speaker 1: we'll be rooting for you. And um early on I
- 38:09Speaker 1: was saying.
- 38:11Speaker 1: If you have already started following micro-dramas, OK, micro-dramas have
- 38:15Speaker 1: become a thing and um not just real-life micro-dramas, but
- 38:19Speaker 1: AI generated micro-dramas. OK. Have you fallen into that trap
- 38:23Speaker 1: yet on like TikTok especially? No. No, you haven't.
- 38:26Speaker 1: No, I, I, I don't. I know some friends who
- 38:29Speaker 1: are neck-deep in AI generated dramas, micro dramas, and these
- 38:34Speaker 1: micro dramas can be like 23 minutes, maximum 5 minutes
- 38:37Speaker 1: at each, each episode. At the risk of sounding a
- 38:40Speaker 1: little bit controversial, right?
- 38:43Speaker 1: Maybe when it comes to AI generated dramas where anyone
- 38:47Speaker 1: can just key in a prompt, don't be surprised if
- 38:50Speaker 1: a random TikTok user here in Singapore gets more views
- 38:54Speaker 1: because maybe he might key in a prompt that you
- 38:56Speaker 1: won't see on free to air television or free to
- 38:59Speaker 1: air social media. Yeah, it's true, but I think it's
- 39:02Speaker 1: a lot more complex than just keying it. You can't
- 39:04Speaker 1: just use your regular run of the mill chat to
- 39:07Speaker 1: do this, you know what I mean? Like there's a
- 39:09Speaker 1: lot more and
- 39:10Speaker 1: There's, there are even courses on how to use your prompts,
- 39:13Speaker 1: how to prompt better or how to craft it better,
- 39:17Speaker 1: you know. So, um, on that note, a new collaboration
- 39:20Speaker 1: coming up very soon and it's very relevant to microdramas,
- 39:25Speaker 1: especially in the AI space and online. It seems like
- 39:29Speaker 1: microdramas are all the rage right now. What is Glenn
- 39:32Speaker 1: Yong up to? Not, not in this one, but who knows, right?
- 39:36Speaker 1: Who knows who's gonna star in this one.
- 39:37Speaker 1: Our friends at IMDA, which we are quite familiar with,
- 39:41Speaker 1: and TikTok, which we're also quite familiar with, are teaming
- 39:46Speaker 1: up to develop Singapore microdrama expertise, by the way.
- 39:52Speaker 1: And they may involve AI. What does Singapore microdrama expertise mean?
- 39:58Speaker 1: So that means they're gonna team up to help develop
- 40:02Speaker 1: expertise in microdramas. Oh, OK. That that's what they're, that's
- 40:06Speaker 1: what they're saying. Wow, the consumer behavior has really changed
- 40:09Speaker 1: in the last decade or so. Basically what they're saying
- 40:12Speaker 1: is that they know that there's a demand for microdramas
- 40:14Speaker 1: right now. And you know, if you scroll, especially TikTok,
- 40:17Speaker 1: if you're doom scrolling.
- 40:19Speaker 1: Do you realize there's a lot of those like AI
- 40:21Speaker 1: micro dramas right now? You can watch like 12 minutes? Yeah.
- 40:24Speaker 1: I want to just make sure I put my phone
- 40:26Speaker 1: my mouth. Stop feeding me micro dramas. I don't want
- 40:29Speaker 1: to watch. Yo, I actually have some friends who want
- 40:32Speaker 1: to watch it, you know, and they cannot stop. It's
- 40:34Speaker 1: like a rabbit hole. One episode is 2 minutes, suddenly.
- 40:36Speaker 1: Yeah like 10 episodes in. OK, so I have my
- 40:39Speaker 1: questions here. How come we can take a Netflix or
- 40:42Speaker 1: HBO Max or Apple TV drama series that runs for
- 40:46Speaker 1: maybe 30, 40 minutes, but sometimes when it comes to
- 40:49Speaker 1: a locally created product, we cannot give the same time.
- 40:53Speaker 1: We must watch it in a micro format.
- 40:54Speaker 1: Does it say that maybe the concept of our local
- 40:56Speaker 1: dramas need to improve? Is the storyline not engaging enough? Actually, I,
- 41:01Speaker 1: I disagree. I don't think it's because of that. I
- 41:05Speaker 1: actually think it's because they are not monetizing it enough
- 41:09Speaker 1: or they're not producing more here because currently we're consuming
- 41:12Speaker 1: a lot of the overseas microdramas. The AI micro dramas
- 41:16Speaker 1: are not from Singapore. So maybe.
- 41:18Speaker 1: They're trying to, you know, equip media professionals with the
- 41:20Speaker 1: skill set to produce and conceptualize micro dramas. So I
- 41:24Speaker 1: think what they're trying to do is really encourage that
- 41:26Speaker 1: there's a new market for it and people can actually
- 41:29Speaker 1: get jobs in this. Um, I believe they are aiming
- 41:33Speaker 1: to see if they can conceptualize and produce 50 to
- 41:36Speaker 1: 100 micro drama episodes and bring them to market to
- 41:40Speaker 1: see whether that is, is gonna.
- 41:42Speaker 1: Um, work. The first round of the program will be
- 41:44Speaker 1: applicable to professionals from 20 accredited media companies. So I
- 41:49Speaker 1: think it's gonna actually churn up a lot more positions
- 41:52Speaker 1: in these companies. I mean, just think about it, 50 episodes, right?
- 41:56Speaker 1: 50 episodes 2 minutes long. That's 100 minutes in total.
- 42:00Speaker 1: That's less than 2 hours to finish everything. But you
- 42:02Speaker 1: know what, the storytelling is very important for micro dramas,
- 42:07Speaker 1: you know what I mean? OK, controversial.
- 42:09Speaker 1: I think here in Singapore we are very restricted by
- 42:13Speaker 1: what we can turn into a story. If you know,
- 42:15Speaker 1: you know, I don't want to say too much, but yeah,
- 42:17Speaker 1: hopefully we can find creative ways to weave in the
- 42:20Speaker 1: everyday Singaporean life that will capture the hearts of us
- 42:23Speaker 1: to watch it and that can reach a global audience.
- 42:26Speaker 1: It's just like how we consume overseas content like, hey,
- 42:29Speaker 1: people overseas consume some Singaporean content. Why not? OK, name
- 42:33Speaker 1: me one show that has made it in the region.
- 42:37Speaker 1: In Asia, like a local Singapore, like a local show. Actually,
- 42:41Speaker 1: I would say Violinist. The Violinist has reached a regional audience.
- 42:45Speaker 1: That's a film, right? Oh, OK, drama series, drama series
- 42:49Speaker 1: like a local Little Nonia. That's one. Yeah, they, they
- 42:52Speaker 1: reach a regional.
- 42:55Speaker 1: Um, I don't know. I'm not the best person to ask,
- 42:57Speaker 1: I guess. I'll put maybe Phua Chu Kang given how
- 43:00Speaker 1: he has found success in Malaysia and also sometimes in Indonesia.
- 43:03Speaker 1: So he's really best in Singapore, and some, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 43:07Speaker 1: But yeah, yo, that's what we grew up with and
- 43:10Speaker 1: now it's made a comeback, right? stands the test of time.
- 43:12Speaker 1: Before we wrap things up, just wanted to give a
- 43:14Speaker 1: big shout out to a listener from Japan. Thank you
- 43:18Speaker 1: for tuning in. Legitimately, your numbers from Japan. Um, say
- 43:21Speaker 1: hi to Cole. I don't think that's your full name,
- 43:23Speaker 1: but you said, hello, morning. I always listen to your
- 43:26Speaker 1: show from Japan.
- 43:27Speaker 1: And you had actually a song request that you really,
- 43:30Speaker 1: really love, but unfortunately, we don't have that. Maybe we'll,
- 43:32Speaker 1: we'll check it out. We can add it to our
- 43:34Speaker 1: system and find out more. Hopefully things are going well
- 43:37Speaker 1: in Japan. Want to send love to our friends over
- 43:39Speaker 1: in Thailand as well, especially in Bangkok. And hey, to
- 43:42Speaker 1: our friends in Malaysia, congrats on firstly thrashing us six-nil.
- 43:47Speaker 1: And also for us, but yeah, he, the Bahrain Grand
- 43:50Speaker 1: Prix being staged in Sepan very soon. So we'll be
- 43:53Speaker 1: watching very closely, I think, you know, and finally we're
- 43:55Speaker 1: on the same time zone also great, fantastic. So given
- 43:58Speaker 1: how the boys actually went to Lang for a trip, right,
- 44:01Speaker 1: you think when they come to Singapore to go to Sentosa, RWS,
- 44:04Speaker 1: Universal Studios Singapore? I, you know, I'm going to be
- 44:08Speaker 1: very real. I don't think they have the time because, um,
- 44:12Speaker 1: when they come to Singapore, right, there's so many events
- 44:15Speaker 1: happening here.
- 44:16Speaker 1: Don't be surprised if you see Valtteri Botha cycling in
- 44:19Speaker 1: Singapore on a bike I wouldn't be surprised. Yeah, he's
- 44:22Speaker 1: the kind of guy that would do that, man.
