- 1:19Speaker 5: Service Center, twenty two hundred longmyre just down from the
- 1:22Speaker 5: post office in College Station.
- 1:25Speaker 6: Money took our sportshalk here on a Thursday afternoon the
- 1:29Speaker 6: Zone eleven to fifty AM ninety three points seven FM.
- 1:32Speaker 6: Kayleb Brapley here sitting in the host chair for probably
- 1:36Speaker 6: the final time this summer. Across the table from me
- 1:40Speaker 6: is Andrew Rapsolver, play by play man for the Brasses
- 1:43Speaker 6: Valley Bombers. Andrew, thank you for being here once again.
- 1:46Speaker 7: No, I really appreciate it, and it's it's always good
- 1:48Speaker 7: to get invited back instead of getting sent out the
- 1:50Speaker 7: door and never never to return. Yeah, it's been fun.
- 1:53Speaker 7: I'm looking forward to it again this afternoon.
- 1:56Speaker 6: On the ones and twos, we have Stan and on
- 1:58Speaker 6: the other side of the glass is producer Riley. A
- 2:01Speaker 6: full house here on Sports Talk Today, and we have
- 2:05Speaker 6: a full lineup of topics to get to moments before disaster.
- 2:11Speaker 6: As I spilled my water all over the desk, so
- 2:13Speaker 6: that's just fantastic, Like as we were going on there,
- 2:16Speaker 6: so we're gonna have fifteen seconds before we're gonna have
- 2:18Speaker 6: to recover from that. You gotta start low so you
- 2:20Speaker 6: can build your way up that's right, so we will
- 2:23Speaker 6: get into our trade deadline predictions. We've already had a
- 2:28Speaker 6: few moves made as we are just days away from
- 2:32Speaker 6: the August third deadline, that is this coming Monday.
- 2:36Speaker 8: We will get into that later in this hour.
- 2:38Speaker 6: In the second segment of the show, we are going
- 2:41Speaker 6: to hear Riley's interview with Sarah Garcia, a high school
- 2:45Speaker 6: golfer from College Station. She's got a very interesting story
- 2:50Speaker 6: that we'll get into later. And then in the five
- 2:52Speaker 6: o'clock hour, we are going to do our college football
- 2:56Speaker 6: playoff predictions and conference champions for each of the power
- 3:01Speaker 6: conferences and we are going to have a field day
- 3:04Speaker 6: with that.
- 3:05Speaker 8: It is full scale preseason mode for college football. We
- 3:10Speaker 8: are all very excited.
- 3:12Speaker 6: And then to round out the show, we are going
- 3:14Speaker 6: to do another Brasses Valley Bombers segment as they kept
- 3:18Speaker 6: their season alive last night with a five to zero
- 3:20Speaker 6: win over the Victoria Generals on the road and forcing
- 3:24Speaker 6: a deciding Game three winner take all to decide who
- 3:29Speaker 6: goes to the TCL Championship, and I think Lake Charles
- 3:33Speaker 6: clinched their spot, so they will be the team that
- 3:36Speaker 6: either the Generals or the Bombers face right.
- 3:38Speaker 7: That's correct, and so it'll determine potentially the host side
- 3:44Speaker 7: as well. Tonight Victoria went in as the number one
- 3:47Speaker 7: overall seed, and so if I have that right, they
- 3:50Speaker 7: will host Saturday if the Generals win, If the Bombers win,
- 3:54Speaker 7: pack it up and go on the road to Lake
- 3:56Speaker 7: Charles for the championship.
- 3:57Speaker 8: So can we have a long drive?
- 4:00Speaker 7: Well, it's if in the event that that does happen
- 4:04Speaker 7: from Sealy. It's a little bit closer where I'm from
- 4:06Speaker 7: since instead of college station, so a bit cut off
- 4:10Speaker 7: an hour or so off of that, but still still
- 4:12Speaker 7: bit of a drive.
- 4:13Speaker 8: Yeah. MLB News and notes.
- 4:18Speaker 6: Right now, the Cubs and Cardinals are locked in a
- 4:21Speaker 6: extra inning battle, two to two in Saint Louis, the
- 4:26Speaker 6: Cubs batting with one out and a run around third
- 4:31Speaker 6: in the top of the tenth inning. And then the
- 4:37Speaker 6: other current game going on right now in the MLB
- 4:39Speaker 6: is the Yankees and White Sox, and that's in the
- 4:41Speaker 6: bottom of the tenth, So two extra inning games going
- 4:44Speaker 6: right now to keep us entertained US baseball fans. And
- 4:50Speaker 6: the Cubs actually did just score run, so they are
- 4:52Speaker 6: now up three to two in the top of the tenth.
- 4:53Speaker 6: The Rangers already had their game today, dropping a one
- 4:58Speaker 6: run loss to the Tampa Bay Raise three to two
- 5:01Speaker 6: on the road. The Rays one of the hotter teams
- 5:03Speaker 6: in baseball. They are forty and sixteen at home. That's
- 5:09Speaker 6: some twenty seventeen Astro stuff right there. That's right, coming
- 5:13Speaker 6: from an Astros fan.
- 5:14Speaker 7: Yeah, that's that's an amazing, amazing home record, and it'll
- 5:18Speaker 7: be curious pretty well, it's gonna be interesting to see
- 5:21Speaker 7: with them Tampa Bay always known as one of those
- 5:24Speaker 7: lower budget organizations. Yeah, you've proven record at home, top
- 5:29Speaker 7: of the AL in the East, and so what do
- 5:33Speaker 7: you do do you do? You go make a big move?
- 5:36Speaker 7: Is this is Tampa Bay come to the big boys
- 5:38Speaker 7: table and play here on right before the deadline. We'll
- 5:41Speaker 7: find out.
- 5:42Speaker 6: So the Rangers end up dropping that series two games
- 5:46Speaker 6: to one on the road in Tampa. But I think
- 5:48Speaker 6: taking a win away from the number one team in
- 5:51Speaker 6: the AL, not getting swept, you got to count that
- 5:54Speaker 6: as a win, especially after taking.
- 5:55Speaker 8: Three out of four from the Mariners in the past series.
- 5:58Speaker 6: So that makes this weekend series against the Astros very
- 6:02Speaker 6: crucial as the Rangers have just a half game lead
- 6:06Speaker 6: in the Al West now over Houston and the Astros
- 6:10Speaker 6: after their win to sweep the Angels last night, they
- 6:14Speaker 6: are five hundred for the first time since I think
- 6:16Speaker 6: it was April seventh, and now have an opportunity to
- 6:20Speaker 6: take back the division lead. So this weekend will be
- 6:24Speaker 6: very crucial, very exciting. We will have Game one for
- 6:28Speaker 6: you here tomorrow night. Pregame coverage starts at six point
- 6:31Speaker 6: forty here on the Zone, so stay tuned for that tomorrow.
- 6:36Speaker 6: Speaking of that win that the Astros got to sweep
- 6:40Speaker 6: the Angels last night, Hayden west Neski making his first
- 6:43Speaker 6: major league start in over a year. It was a
- 6:48Speaker 6: fantastic performance from him, especially considering that he's been gone
- 6:55Speaker 6: for so long with Tommy John surgery. Gets through five
- 6:58Speaker 6: and two thirds innings only giving up three runs, so
- 7:04Speaker 6: that was very crucial and hopefully he can continue to
- 7:08Speaker 6: have those types of performances, as this is an Astro's
- 7:11Speaker 6: pitching staff that really needs a spark from somebody. So
- 7:16Speaker 6: happy for Hayden in that one I mentioned, some moves
- 7:21Speaker 6: have already been made, and the Rangers were actually one
- 7:25Speaker 6: of the teams to get the transactions going as they
- 7:29Speaker 6: acquired Logan o' hopi and Chase Silsith from the Angels
- 7:34Speaker 6: in exchange for a minor league infielder Angel Rondido, and
- 7:40Speaker 6: they immediately decided to send Logan Ohopy down to Triple A,
- 7:43Speaker 6: which is interesting and I understand the thought behind it.
- 7:48Speaker 6: Oh Hopy's been you know, I mean, he's the last
- 7:52Speaker 6: couple seasons has had some pretty solid performances, hit twenty
- 7:55Speaker 6: homers in twenty twenty four, then nineteen homers in twenty
- 7:58Speaker 6: twenty five, but this year he's really been struggling at
- 8:00Speaker 6: the plate, hitting just above two hundred, but still a
- 8:05Speaker 6: lot of potential there. He's only twenty six years old,
- 8:07Speaker 6: it's got a few years of control left. So the
- 8:10Speaker 6: Rangers hoping to capitalize on that, sending them down to
- 8:13Speaker 6: Triple A and hopefully getting some development there.
- 8:17Speaker 7: Well and you well, I will dive into a deadline
- 8:20Speaker 7: day more as the as the hour goes along. But
- 8:23Speaker 7: something that's really interesting is the entire al West in general,
- 8:27Speaker 7: because with the Rangers sitting at the top of the
- 8:29Speaker 7: standings at fifty five and fifty four, it's what moves
- 8:35Speaker 7: are going to be made? How much are they going
- 8:37Speaker 7: to quote go all in on this deadline. As you
- 8:41Speaker 7: look at playoff chances like to go up against Chicago
- 8:45Speaker 7: or a New York or even a Boston or Tampa Bay,
- 8:48Speaker 7: how much are these Al West teams going to go
- 8:52Speaker 7: after it? And you already saw some movement with the Rangers.
- 8:56Speaker 7: Coming As from an Astros fan here, I think it
- 8:59Speaker 7: would be grossly irresponsible if we trade the entire farm
- 9:04Speaker 7: essentially to go after say a school. But we are
- 9:06Speaker 7: not a t schoobl away from a World Series. We're
- 9:09Speaker 7: I think we are far. You know, Seattle is the
- 9:12Speaker 7: only team in the Al West with a positive run differential.
- 9:15Speaker 7: They've got great pitching. I could see them making a splash,
- 9:19Speaker 7: and we'll get into more of that later, but it's
- 9:22Speaker 7: it's really sort of you know, one of those Texas
- 9:26Speaker 7: and Houston, some of those fringe teams. It's going to
- 9:29Speaker 7: be crazy to see how much do we do these
- 9:32Speaker 7: teams go after? Yeah, for sure, And it wouldn't shock
- 9:35Speaker 7: me if they tested the waters dipped their feet in
- 9:38Speaker 7: the pool. I don't I don't expect huge, huge moves,
- 9:44Speaker 7: but we've seen crazier things.
- 9:46Speaker 6: Right, and we don't want to spoil too much of
- 9:49Speaker 6: our deadline talk. So one more MLB note before we
- 9:52Speaker 6: move on the Rangers, more good news for them as
- 9:55Speaker 6: they sent relief pitcher Cody Bradford on a rehab assignment
- 10:01Speaker 6: today to the TRIAA Round Rock Express. Bradford's been one
- 10:06Speaker 6: of their better pitchers this year, so it would be
- 10:09Speaker 6: big for them to get him back.
- 10:11Speaker 8: Looks like that's not too far away.
- 10:13Speaker 6: Last night, Texas A and M football had their celebrity
- 10:17Speaker 6: softball game, and that's always a lot of fun. The
- 10:21Speaker 6: home run derby champion was Marco Jones, who I personally
- 10:25Speaker 6: feel should not have been allowed to participate. I mean,
- 10:27Speaker 6: he literally was recruited here as a dual sport athlete
- 10:30Speaker 6: in football and baseball, so seems a little unfair that
- 10:33Speaker 6: he was allowed to compete in the home run Derby,
- 10:34Speaker 6: but he did win it. Team Maroon were the champions
- 10:39Speaker 6: of the game. Their coaches were Class of twenty twenty
- 10:43Speaker 6: wide receiver Kendrick Rodgers running back Class of twenty twenty three,
- 10:47Speaker 6: Isaiah Spiller, and Jace Sternberger tight end from the class
- 10:50Speaker 6: of twenty eighteen. So it's always fun to see some
- 10:54Speaker 6: of these big names from the past of Aggie football
- 10:58Speaker 6: come back to campus and participate in this team, Maroon
- 11:02Speaker 6: ended up getting the win, and I saw clips of
- 11:05Speaker 6: Mike Elko doing his best Joe West impersonation as an umpire,
- 11:11Speaker 6: which was a lot of fun. But the celebrity softball
- 11:13Speaker 6: game is always good time over at Davis Diamond. And
- 11:17Speaker 6: then one more Aggie football notes here as Texas. A
- 11:21Speaker 6: and M announced earlier today that they will have their
- 11:26Speaker 6: Operation Blackout game on Saturday, November fourteenth against Tennessee, which
- 11:31Speaker 6: did feel like the best fit for that. It has,
- 11:34Speaker 6: you know, needs to be a good, solid home opponent
- 11:37Speaker 6: and a night game, and Tennessee met both of those conditions,
- 11:39Speaker 6: so I think that's going to be a really fun matchup.
- 11:42Speaker 6: The Blackout game is always a very electric atmosphere since
- 11:46Speaker 6: we brought it back in twenty twenty four against LSU
- 11:50Speaker 6: and then last year Againstssissippi State. So we're undefeated in
- 11:53Speaker 6: the two games that we've had a Blackout while Elko
- 11:57Speaker 6: has been head coach.
- 11:58Speaker 8: So excited for that.
- 12:00Speaker 7: Quick note, did you have on your bingo card Elco
- 12:03Speaker 7: doing a Joe West impression? Did that? Did that catch
- 12:06Speaker 7: the radar?
- 12:07Speaker 6: He wasn't doing a Joe Western. I don't know, just
- 12:11Speaker 6: the umpire that makes it about him, you know, yeah,
- 12:13Speaker 6: that I did have sort of yeah, yeah, I thought
- 12:16Speaker 6: there would be something like that, and I'm glad that
- 12:17Speaker 6: there was because it's always fun to see the personality
- 12:19Speaker 6: come out in Elko because we know he has it,
- 12:22Speaker 6: sometimes he just doesn't show it. But back to the
- 12:25Speaker 6: Operation Blackout for a second. We now have three kind
- 12:29Speaker 6: of theme nights almost for Aggie football this season. The
- 12:34Speaker 6: Red White and Blue game Week two against Arizona State,
- 12:39Speaker 6: the third time I believe that we will have a
- 12:41Speaker 6: red White and blue game after having it. I think
- 12:45Speaker 6: it was back in two thousand and one after the
- 12:47Speaker 6: nine to eleven trategies, and then in twenty twenty one,
- 12:51Speaker 6: and now for the twenty fifth anniversary in twenty twenty six,
- 12:55Speaker 6: along with celebrating America's two hundred and fiftieth anniversary, so
- 12:59Speaker 6: that's going to be a lot of fun.
- 13:00Speaker 8: And then so many anniversaries.
- 13:02Speaker 6: Saturday, October third against Arkansas will be the one hundred
- 13:06Speaker 6: and fiftieth anniversary of Texas A and M University Celebration,
- 13:11Speaker 6: founded back in eighteen seventy six, so I'm sure there
- 13:15Speaker 6: will be some specific uniforms for that game. I'm interested
- 13:19Speaker 6: to see what that'll be as it obviously has not
- 13:22Speaker 6: been announced yet, but you know, maybe like a Core
- 13:25Speaker 6: inspired uniform. I'd be really interested to see something like that.
- 13:28Speaker 7: You'd have to think for the one hundred and fiftieth anniversary,
- 13:31Speaker 7: not only to go along with the uniforms, there's going
- 13:33Speaker 7: to be a pretty large presentation of events not only
- 13:37Speaker 7: leading up to the game during the game, so that
- 13:40Speaker 7: I'm sure it's going to draw a lot of attention
- 13:43Speaker 7: and interest as that gets closer.
- 13:46Speaker 6: Absolutely, and that's going to be a really fun rivalry
- 13:48Speaker 6: game as well, with Arkansas coming to town for the
- 13:51Speaker 6: Southwest Classic, which I know it's not really called that
- 13:53Speaker 6: anymore because we're not going to play it every year,
- 13:55Speaker 6: but still I think that was an appropriate choice of
- 13:59Speaker 6: team to play that game. Tech SAgs released a pretty
- 14:06Speaker 6: interesting article today notable weight gains and losses on the
- 14:11Speaker 6: Aggie football roster. Coach Tobby Moffatt, the strength and conditioning
- 14:16Speaker 6: coach under coach Elco, has done a really good job,
- 14:19Speaker 6: I think, of implementing what made him so successful and
- 14:25Speaker 6: what powered LSU to be the power that it was
- 14:28Speaker 6: while he was there. But we've seen a lot of
- 14:31Speaker 6: Aggie players gain weight and muscle and then a few
- 14:35Speaker 6: you know, shed weight to be more athletic. I want
- 14:39Speaker 6: to highlight KK Johnson, who went from being six five
- 14:43Speaker 6: two hundred and I think it was thirty pounds as
- 14:46Speaker 6: a true freshman early and rollie back in spring football.
- 14:50Speaker 8: He is up thirty six pounds since then.
- 14:52Speaker 7: It's insane.
- 14:53Speaker 8: He's been getting it done in the gym.
- 14:57Speaker 6: So again, true freshman tight end KK Johnson, and then
- 15:00Speaker 6: Kiyati Armstrong, another tight end, is up to two hundred
- 15:04Speaker 6: and eighty five pounds at six foot six.
- 15:06Speaker 8: He is an.
- 15:07Speaker 6: Absolute unit at tight end two hundred and eighty five pounds.
- 15:11Speaker 6: If he gets the ball in his hands, he's going
- 15:12Speaker 6: to be impossible to bring down. And then a couple
- 15:16Speaker 6: receivers as well putting on the muscle, Mario Krager, Terry
- 15:19Speaker 6: Bussey and Aaron Gregory all putting on at least ten pounds.
- 15:23Speaker 6: So this Aggie football team looks to be bigger and
- 15:26Speaker 6: stronger coming into twenty twenty six.
- 15:29Speaker 8: Excited to see how they use it.
- 15:33Speaker 6: And with that we're going to take our first break.
- 15:35Speaker 6: On the other side, we will hear Riley's interview with
- 15:37Speaker 6: Sarah Garcia. This is Chip Howard Sports talk on the zone.
- 15:41Speaker 9: Inco Insurance is now a part of Hub International, bringing
- 15:45Speaker 9: you more choices, better value, and even greater expertise. While

- 16:03Speaker 9: behind us, more resources, more solutions, Still your team and
- 16:07Speaker 9: co Insurance a Hub International company, So you're ready for tomorrow.
- 16:11Speaker 4: The Louis Bellina Show presented by CC Electric.
- 16:15Speaker 10: Absolutely, and I remember when it was such a big
- 16:17Speaker 10: deal when we got call waiting at my house. That
- 16:21Speaker 10: was a huge deal.
- 16:22Speaker 3: Answer on machines.
- 16:23Speaker 10: Oh that was big. We had an answer machine. And
- 16:28Speaker 10: I remember well the defining moments of my life. And
- 16:32Speaker 10: I tell my kids about this too. It's like, you know,
- 16:36Speaker 10: we were so broke when we first got married that
- 16:40Speaker 10: they turned the phone off on us, like that couldn't
- 16:42Speaker 10: play the phone bill, so they shut the phone off
- 16:44Speaker 10: on us. And I remember looking at the phone without
- 16:49Speaker 10: a dial tone and I was like, never again, never again.
- 16:54Speaker 10: I will never be so broke again. That I don't
- 16:57Speaker 10: have a phone, and a little little did I know
- 17:00Speaker 10: I wouldn't have a phone in my house this much longer,
- 17:04Speaker 10: But at least I've paid my cell bill.
- 17:06Speaker 4: Hang out with Louis weekdays eleven to two on the
- 17:09Speaker 4: Zon eleven and fifty am and ninety three point seven Fmight.
- 17:16Speaker 11: Gon Gonna take your boy, You're gonna take it down.
- 17:25Speaker 12: Day Times.
- 17:38Speaker 6: Ship Howard Sports Talk Here on a Thursday afternoon. Caleb
- 17:42Speaker 6: Rapley and Andrew Rapsilver hosting today, and we're going to
- 17:46Speaker 6: hear what Sarah Garcia had to say in this next
- 17:51Speaker 6: segment here as our producer Riley Dorsey caught up with
- 17:55Speaker 6: her earlier this week. Sarah is a fourteen year old
- 17:59Speaker 6: from colle Legetation. She traveled to Saint Andrew's, Scotland to
- 18:03Speaker 6: compete in the Craile Golfing Society Junior Open on the
- 18:09Speaker 6: historic Balcony Links course. And I'm probably mispronouncing all of
- 18:13Speaker 6: this because I'm terrible at pronunciations. But she didn't just
- 18:16Speaker 6: come home with a wins. She set a new women's
- 18:18Speaker 6: course record with a sixty seven. So very impressive from
- 18:23Speaker 6: Sarah at only fourteen years old. Here's what she had
- 18:26Speaker 6: to say in her interview with Riley.
- 18:29Speaker 13: Welcome in Riley Dorsey here joining us today. We've got
- 18:33Speaker 13: fourteen year old golfer Sarah Garcia from College Station, Texas.
- 18:37Speaker 13: Sarah recently had the opportunity to compete overseas in Scotland
- 18:40Speaker 13: and came home with quite an accomplishment. We'll get into
- 18:43Speaker 13: here in just a minute, but first, Sarah, thank you
- 18:45Speaker 13: so much for joining us today.
- 18:48Speaker 14: Thank you for having me.
- 18:49Speaker 13: Yeah, of course. Well, first off, congratulations again, and you
- 18:54Speaker 13: had such an incredible experience over in Scotland, and I'm
- 18:57Speaker 13: very curious when you first found out you'd be making
- 18:59Speaker 13: the trip. What was your initial reaction.
- 19:03Speaker 14: Well, last year was my first time in Scotland and
- 19:06Speaker 14: I was there for a golf camp. It's called Saint
- 19:08Speaker 14: Andrew's Golf Camp. So I was very excited to hear
- 19:11Speaker 14: that I was coming back this year and I'm very
- 19:14Speaker 14: grateful for that opportunity.
- 19:16Speaker 13: Oh cool, Is there any like food or weather that
- 19:21Speaker 13: either surprised you or you like better? Over in Scotland?
- 19:25Speaker 14: The weather is very different from like where I live
- 19:28Speaker 14: College Station. College Station's very humid, around one hundred degrees.
- 19:33Speaker 14: Scotland is really cold, at sometimes it's windy, rainy, It's
- 19:38Speaker 14: very different, so adjusting to the conditions is hard, but
- 19:42Speaker 14: it's fun at the same time.
- 19:44Speaker 13: I bet and I do know there's like a six
- 19:46Speaker 13: hour time difference. Did that really affect you or are
- 19:49Speaker 13: you able to adjust to that pretty quickly as well?
- 19:52Speaker 14: I did adjust to it pretty quickly. Honestly, I thought
- 19:54Speaker 14: it'd be more jet lag, but I was okay, good.
- 19:58Speaker 13: Well, obviously the trip itself is incredible, but eventually it
- 20:02Speaker 13: came time to actually play some golf and everyone always
- 20:06Speaker 13: talks about how different links golf is, especially over in Scotland.
- 20:10Speaker 13: So once you actually got out onto the course, was
- 20:13Speaker 13: there anything that stood out to you the most compared
- 20:15Speaker 13: to what you're used to playing here in Texas.
- 20:18Speaker 14: Yes, so I think one thing that was like very
- 20:22Speaker 14: important to do was to get my drive in the fairway.
- 20:25Speaker 14: If you're in that tall graph, it could ruin the
- 20:28Speaker 14: entire hole for you. So I think that just really
- 20:31Speaker 14: stood out to me, because here it's everything in general
- 20:34Speaker 14: has to be good there. Your tee shot is one
- 20:37Speaker 14: of the most important things out there.
- 20:39Speaker 13: So interesting, Well, if someone from Texas who had never
- 20:44Speaker 13: played links golf before, how would you kind of describe
- 20:46Speaker 13: it to them.
- 20:49Speaker 14: Definitely challenging, but it's such a cool experience because you
- 20:53Speaker 14: could tell, like the distance is shorter, but the difficulty
- 20:57Speaker 14: is still there, because like, yeah, it's it's completely different,
- 21:01Speaker 14: but it's so cool. The courses are very, very pretty,
- 21:05Speaker 14: and yeah, it's so nice.
- 21:07Speaker 13: That sounds amazing. And I know the wind is always
- 21:10Speaker 13: a little difficult. There was it really windy when you played?
- 21:13Speaker 14: Or honestly, when I was over there, we had really
- 21:17Speaker 14: good weather, but I have experienced like where I'll be
- 21:21Speaker 14: let's say one hundred yards out and I'd have to
- 21:23Speaker 14: play one forty yards.
- 21:25Speaker 7: Oh my god.
- 21:25Speaker 14: Yeah, so yeah, it's terrible.
- 21:27Speaker 13: Sometimes that's crazy. Well, it sounds like you adjusted to
- 21:32Speaker 13: the Link's golf pretty quickly because the results certainly showed it.
- 21:36Speaker 13: So just take us back to tournament day, since this
- 21:39Speaker 13: was just one eighteen whole round. Did it kind of
- 21:42Speaker 13: just feel like any other tournament that morning when you
- 21:44Speaker 13: woke up or did something about that day feel a
- 21:46Speaker 13: little different.
- 21:49Speaker 14: No, I was feeling, I think, pretty confident. I was
- 21:52Speaker 14: out there with my friends with the camp, so I
- 21:55Speaker 14: feel like I had no pressure and that kind of
- 21:59Speaker 14: made me better. Honestly, for sure.
- 22:02Speaker 13: Definitely, just when you let loose, all the pieces get
- 22:05Speaker 13: put together and I know you're back half of the nine.
- 22:09Speaker 13: You shot a thirty two, which is insane. Was there
- 22:12Speaker 13: a moment back there where you kind of just felt
- 22:13Speaker 13: like everything was clicking?
- 22:16Speaker 14: Honestly, what really like changed the back nine compared to
- 22:20Speaker 14: the front nine was that if I wasn't on the
- 22:22Speaker 14: greens in two, I would always make up and down.
- 22:26Speaker 14: I'd make every put. I think everything just came together,
- 22:30Speaker 14: and I feel like I had very few miss hits.
- 22:34Speaker 14: It's just very like I had no stress. I was
- 22:38Speaker 14: feeling confident, and I was having a lot of fun
- 22:40Speaker 14: out there.
- 22:41Speaker 13: That's amazing. And yeah, like you said, I, I know
- 22:44Speaker 13: you hit seven birdies in one round, which is also
- 22:48Speaker 13: just insane. So as those birdies were adding up, were
- 22:52Speaker 13: you really paying much attention to your score or were
- 22:54Speaker 13: you just kind of focused on the next shot each time?
- 22:59Speaker 14: Honestly, my main goal out there when I'm on the
- 23:01Speaker 14: courses try to make par, not try to make Bertie.
- 23:04Speaker 14: And when you try to make pars, you start making
- 23:06Speaker 14: more puts, better shots. And I think, yeah, the just
- 23:10Speaker 14: the atmosphere I was in, just being more relaxed really
- 23:14Speaker 14: helped me out there.
- 23:15Speaker 13: Honestly, Yeah for sure. And I bet those pretty views
- 23:19Speaker 13: definitely helped too. So then wrapping up the eighteenth hole,
- 23:23Speaker 13: did you have any idea you had just shot at
- 23:25Speaker 13: sixty seven?
- 23:28Speaker 14: So I how did I?
- 23:29Speaker 15: Like?
- 23:30Speaker 14: I was like, yeah, I shot a good score. I
- 23:32Speaker 14: went up to the scoring. I did not expect to
- 23:35Speaker 14: shoot the woman's course record out there, and I was
- 23:39Speaker 14: just really surprised and shocked. Honestly, I was proud of myself,
- 23:42Speaker 14: but I was like, that's insane, Like I was very excited.
- 23:47Speaker 13: Yeah, for sure, and that's amazing at someone who's so
- 23:50Speaker 13: young and still is so much ahead of them. So,
- 23:53Speaker 13: like you said, did you just see it for yourself
- 23:55Speaker 13: or did someone tell you that you broke the record?
- 23:58Speaker 14: No, somebody told me I was. I finished around, finished scoring,
- 24:03Speaker 14: and I went into the dining room with like my
- 24:06Speaker 14: friends from the camp and my friends like Sarah, Sarah,
- 24:10Speaker 14: they need you over there. They said you broke the
- 24:12Speaker 14: course record, and I was just in shock. I was like, what, it's.
- 24:16Speaker 13: Crazy, that's so amazing. I love that for you. And
- 24:21Speaker 13: one thing that really just stood out to me also
- 24:23Speaker 13: was your sixty seven wasn't just enough to win the
- 24:26Speaker 13: girls championship set the course record, but it actually ended
- 24:30Speaker 13: up being lower than every score in the boys field too.
- 24:33Speaker 13: So what do you think just made that round so
- 24:36Speaker 13: special to where you were able to get such a
- 24:38Speaker 13: good score.
- 24:40Speaker 14: I think being with like my two closest friends at
- 24:44Speaker 14: that camp, just sharing that moment with them, just them
- 24:47Speaker 14: being there to watch it. I think that was very nice.
- 24:51Speaker 13: For me too, Yeah, for sure. And so then do
- 24:54Speaker 13: you go to these tournaments alone? Do your parents come
- 24:57Speaker 13: with you? How does that work?
- 24:59Speaker 14: No, so the camp, they bring the whole camp to
- 25:03Speaker 14: the tournament, and it's no parents because they usually stay
- 25:06Speaker 14: at home or I mean, they can come, but it's
- 25:09Speaker 14: usually just like your coaches or your counselors watching.
- 25:15Speaker 13: But yeah, yeah, well that's that's good that you have
- 25:18Speaker 13: plenty of friends that you're with, because I don't know
- 25:22Speaker 13: about you, but I'd be scared traveling all that way
- 25:24Speaker 13: without my parents at such a young age. But yeah, well,
- 25:29Speaker 13: obviously this is a huge accomplishment for you. But at
- 25:32Speaker 13: the same time, your golf journey's really just getting started.
- 25:35Speaker 13: So now that everything's settled down and you kind of
- 25:37Speaker 13: had a chance to reflect on all of it, has
- 25:40Speaker 13: this trip changed the way that you think about what
- 25:43Speaker 13: you're capable of as a golfer.
- 25:45Speaker 14: Yes, definitely. Honestly, when I'm out in Scotland, I realized
- 25:50Speaker 14: that being under less pressure, like with friends, I have
- 25:54Speaker 14: more fun playing, and once I come back home, I
- 25:57Speaker 14: just have the urge to play more, And honestly, like
- 26:01Speaker 14: that trip really changed how I think about golf. I
- 26:04Speaker 14: really want to go out there more often than what
- 26:06Speaker 14: it used to and just try to shoot better every day.
- 26:10Speaker 13: For sure. That's great. And so did that kind of
- 26:13Speaker 13: lead you to set any new goals for yourself or.
- 26:17Speaker 14: I think start shooting that around under part scores in
- 26:22Speaker 14: bigger tournaments and maybe break another course record, but that
- 26:27Speaker 14: might take a while.
- 26:28Speaker 13: But yeah, you got a dream big.
- 26:30Speaker 11: I love it.
- 26:32Speaker 4: Yes, all right.
- 26:33Speaker 13: Well, then let's say you got another young golfer from
- 26:36Speaker 13: college station listening in and wants to get the opportunity
- 26:40Speaker 13: to compete somewhere like Scotland like you did one day.
- 26:43Speaker 13: What's one piece of advice you'd think you'd give to them.
- 26:48Speaker 14: No pressure, have fun, You're lucky to be there, Just
- 26:52Speaker 14: take advantage of the course, don't if it's a bad day,
- 26:56Speaker 14: don't worry you have a lot of other days. Just
- 27:00Speaker 14: having the advantage like the experience to play there is
- 27:03Speaker 14: such a big thing and I think, just be happy
- 27:06Speaker 14: that you're there, Just take advantage of that.
- 27:09Speaker 16: I love that.
- 27:11Speaker 13: Well, thank you, Sarah, congratulations once again on an incredible
- 27:14Speaker 13: accomplishment and thanks for joining us again.
- 27:18Speaker 14: Thank you so much for having me.
- 27:20Speaker 13: Of course, well, best of luck with the rest of
- 27:22Speaker 13: the year for you and you have a great time.

- 30:48Speaker 6: Dozer Chipawer Sports Talk Thursday Afternoon on This Zone in
- 31:15Speaker 6: eleven ninety three points seven FM. Caleb Rapley in the
- 31:19Speaker 6: host chair alongside Andrew Wrapsilver across the table from me,
- 31:24Speaker 6: co hosting today, and it's time for our MLB trade
- 31:29Speaker 6: deadline preview and predictions. There there are a lot of
- 31:34Speaker 6: teams I think this year that are really on the
- 31:37Speaker 6: edge of contending and you know, being being a seller.
- 31:43Speaker 6: So buyers and sellers are normally, I feel like a
- 31:46Speaker 6: lot more distinguished of who is who is who, But
- 31:52Speaker 6: this year there are a lot more teams that are
- 31:54Speaker 6: really just right around, just barely staying in the conversations.
- 31:57Speaker 6: So I don't know how many, how much any big
- 32:00Speaker 6: players are really going to be on the market this year.
- 32:02Speaker 7: Yeah, that's certainly a factor. And I lest we forget
- 32:07Speaker 7: the looming issue, So to say that sort of we'll
- 32:12Speaker 7: deal with it later, talk about it later. We don't
- 32:15Speaker 7: know if we're gonna even get baseball next year.
- 32:17Speaker 8: That's a really good point.
- 32:18Speaker 7: And so what does that look like for some of
- 32:21Speaker 7: these guys and contract situations and there is a whole
- 32:25Speaker 7: mess awaiting us that I don't think is gonna get
- 32:28Speaker 7: any cleaner anytime soon. Yeah, So I does that hinder
- 32:32Speaker 7: what the trade deadline looks like tomorrow? Do people not
- 32:36Speaker 7: get as active? I don't know.
- 32:39Speaker 8: I mean, I see where you're coming from there.
- 32:41Speaker 6: I don't know how much that will affect trades, just
- 32:45Speaker 6: because I mean, if there's a lockout, then everybody's gonna
- 32:47Speaker 6: be who cares on I don't know if it matters
- 32:50Speaker 6: too much on who's on what team, but yeah, that
- 32:54Speaker 6: could that could play a factor in some general manager's heads.
- 32:58Speaker 8: We will definitely see.
- 32:59Speaker 7: Well, I think, I think I think one of the
- 33:00Speaker 7: big things that that why I bring it up and
- 33:02Speaker 7: it crossed my mind is because one of the big issues,
- 33:05Speaker 7: and I don't think there's going to be an all
- 33:07Speaker 7: or nothing fixed because both sides are so far apart.
- 33:09Speaker 7: But you look at salary cap implementation and every single deadline.
- 33:14Speaker 7: You know, one of the teams on the list for
- 33:16Speaker 7: school is of course the Dodgers. Of course they're always
- 33:19Speaker 7: on the list. Yeah, so that kind of stuff is
- 33:22Speaker 7: going to be a factor to where if you start
- 33:26Speaker 7: implementing something in terms of a maybe not fully structured
- 33:30Speaker 7: but loosely structured salary cap and your big, your big
- 33:36Speaker 7: bad Dodgers and Yankees can't do the same thing they've
- 33:38Speaker 7: always done and just buy the league. That does make
- 33:42Speaker 7: a difference. And is it the last hurrah in terms
- 33:45Speaker 7: of that? So do you go spend as much money
- 33:46Speaker 7: as you can now before something's implemented. So I do
- 33:49Speaker 7: think it sort of matters, but not the leading issue.
- 33:52Speaker 6: I can I see where you're coming from there. I
- 33:55Speaker 6: will say that I I think that the MLBPA and
- 33:59Speaker 6: the owner have had a little more discourse leading up
- 34:03Speaker 6: to the CBA expiring than they normally do. You know,
- 34:07Speaker 6: they've sent proposals back and forth, as you know, outlandish
- 34:11Speaker 6: as they have been, they've still sent them back and forth.
- 34:14Speaker 6: I don't think we had much of that last time.
- 34:16Speaker 6: So that's encouraging. So maybe the lockout won't last as
- 34:20Speaker 6: long as it did the last time. That we had
- 34:22Speaker 6: one which I think was twenty twenty two, only really
- 34:26Speaker 6: lost a few games out of that and they ended
- 34:28Speaker 6: up playing the full one sixty two just had to
- 34:30Speaker 6: delay it a little bit, right.
- 34:32Speaker 8: So hopefully we get a situation like that. But we
- 34:36Speaker 8: will see.
- 34:36Speaker 6: You brought up Terrek Scooble, so we can go ahead
- 34:38Speaker 6: and get started with our deadline preview and predictions. Scooble
- 34:43Speaker 6: is the pretty much consensus number one player on the
- 34:48Speaker 6: market if he if he is on the market, which
- 34:51Speaker 6: I think he probably should be. The Tigers are technically,
- 34:57Speaker 6: I mean, they're still alive. They're still in the hunt,
- 35:00Speaker 6: only four and a half games out of the wild card.
- 35:03Speaker 6: Just on paper looks that looks fine, but when you
- 35:06Speaker 6: look at how many teams there are in between them
- 35:09Speaker 6: in a playoff spot is where I really think the
- 35:13Speaker 6: problem is. Because it's not just that they're only four
- 35:16Speaker 6: and a half games out. They have to jump the Orioles, Mariners,
- 35:18Speaker 6: Astros Twins to even be the next team out, and
- 35:21Speaker 6: then jump the Guardians, so two teams from their own
- 35:24Speaker 6: division that they would.
- 35:26Speaker 8: Have to get by to make the playoffs. It doesn't
- 35:29Speaker 8: seem very likely They've.
- 35:31Speaker 6: They've hit a little bit of a skid over the
- 35:33Speaker 6: last few games as well, which hasn't helped anything. So
- 35:39Speaker 6: I think he will get traded. I think he definitely
- 35:41Speaker 6: should get traded, no doubt. I'm way more confident in
- 35:45Speaker 6: that he should than he will. But he most likely
- 35:48Speaker 6: will be traded. Who will get him is the biggest question.
- 35:53Speaker 6: And there's right now kind of three teams that are
- 35:57Speaker 6: the leaders in the race for Schooble, and that is
- 36:02Speaker 6: the Brewers, the Dodgers, and the Tampa Bay Rays. So
- 36:09Speaker 6: and maybe, you know, maybe Andrew, I haven't looked at
- 36:11Speaker 6: your paper over there.
- 36:12Speaker 8: You might have a different team that you think he's
- 36:13Speaker 8: gonna go to.
- 36:14Speaker 6: But who who do you think is gonna end up
- 36:17Speaker 6: landing Schooble when it's all said and done.
- 36:19Speaker 7: I think Milwaukee's gonna make a pretty big push for this.
- 36:22Speaker 7: I think the Dodgers, of course, will do what they
- 36:24Speaker 7: always do and of course put their name in the
- 36:26Speaker 7: drawing of going after him and giving a pretty high
- 36:30Speaker 7: offer for it. I think, given how closely and least
- 36:35Speaker 7: regular season portion of it, Milwaukee's been toe to toe
- 36:38Speaker 7: with the Dodgers, I believe the game their game back
- 36:40Speaker 7: right now of them. I think now is your time
- 36:44Speaker 7: to try and make a move. Get you an arm
- 36:47Speaker 7: that that has some playoff experience already. If you want
- 36:50Speaker 7: to try and take down these guys, now is the
- 36:53Speaker 7: time to sort of do it. And so I think
- 36:56Speaker 7: I strongly lean at Milwaukee over the Dodgers. I just
- 37:01Speaker 7: don't have the confidence in me whatsoever to think that
- 37:04Speaker 7: Tampa Bay is gonna give a big haul for Scooble.
- 37:09Speaker 7: It just is They've never they never really do, and
- 37:13Speaker 7: so I kind of I hesitate to think that they will.
- 37:16Speaker 7: There's been rubbling rumblings about the Cubs. I don't know
- 37:21Speaker 7: necessarily that that that'll be the case there. Maybe that's
- 37:25Speaker 7: just the factor of well, Milwaukee has a strong interest,
- 37:29Speaker 7: so the Cubs to show a little show a little
- 37:32Speaker 7: interest just to you know Milwaukee Chicago issue there. But
- 37:36Speaker 7: I think Milwaukee is where I would if I if
- 37:41Speaker 7: I were a betting man, which sometimes I am, it's
- 37:43Speaker 7: you know, Milwaukee I think would be the way to go.
- 37:47Speaker 6: Yeah, I think that's I don't know if that's the consensus,
- 37:51Speaker 6: but I've seen some other people saying that as well.
- 37:53Speaker 6: Anytime the Dodgers are in the mix, on somebody you
- 37:55Speaker 6: have to seriously consider them, So I definitely would rather
- 38:00Speaker 6: go to the Brewers. I think that would be that'd
- 38:02Speaker 6: be fun. I don't think have the Brewers ever They've
- 38:06Speaker 6: been to a World Series, but they've never won one,
- 38:08Speaker 6: I think if I'm correct.
- 38:09Speaker 7: Yeah, they have never won one.
- 38:10Speaker 6: Yeah, so I would be perfectly fine with him going
- 38:14Speaker 6: there for his final season before he's a free agent.
- 38:19Speaker 6: I think that'd be a lot of fun. The Tigers
- 38:22Speaker 6: are reportedly looking for young pitching in return for him
- 38:27Speaker 6: and any deal that they make, so if they do
- 38:31Speaker 6: trade Schooble, they likely will unload some of their other
- 38:34Speaker 6: veterans like Labor Torres, Casey meis Kinley Jansen, who I
- 38:38Speaker 6: think most of them are also going to be free
- 38:40Speaker 6: agents at the end of the season, so they are
- 38:43Speaker 6: looking for young pitching, you know, preferably as close to
- 38:46Speaker 6: major League ready as possible, which you know everybody wants that.
- 38:51Speaker 6: So that's not really right breaking news or anything, but
- 38:54Speaker 6: that is what they're looking for. The Brewers have had
- 38:56Speaker 6: a very good history of developing young pitching, so I
- 38:59Speaker 6: think that that would be a good team to trade with.
- 39:03Speaker 6: So yeah, I think I think Brewis is a great
- 39:04Speaker 6: spot for Scooble for sure the next guy on the
- 39:08Speaker 6: list here and this is Mlbtrade Rumors dot Com that
- 39:12Speaker 6: I'm getting this top fifty trade deadline candidates from. Mason
- 39:16Speaker 6: Miller is the number two name. The Padres closer, one
- 39:22Speaker 6: of the most electric arms in the game of baseball.
- 39:26Speaker 6: I don't know if he's gonna be traded at all. Honestly,
- 39:28Speaker 6: signs sealed and delivered. He will be a Seattle Mariner. Wow,
- 39:32Speaker 6: this is all said and done. Okay, They Seattle loves
- 39:35Speaker 6: them a late inning reliever slash closer, and they're consistently
- 39:41Speaker 6: always a really good staff. When it turns and comes
- 39:46Speaker 6: to pitching. In the Al West, they lead on.
- 39:49Speaker 7: A tremendous level, at least in terms of the runs
- 39:52Speaker 7: allowed by team category, forty less than anyone than second place.
- 39:58Speaker 7: I think if they're their pitching is so strong, they're
- 40:02Speaker 7: gonna need a little more offense. Seattle always always loves
- 40:08Speaker 7: a late inning reliever or closer, I think, And then
- 40:11Speaker 7: they're in the running for this as well. I think
- 40:13Speaker 7: I would I would not be stunned one bit that
- 40:16Speaker 7: he would be a Seattle Mariner when.
- 40:17Speaker 8: Okay, that's interesting. I would thoroughly hate that.
- 40:22Speaker 7: I would know that would be atrocious and I don't
- 40:25Speaker 7: want that. That would make me lose some sleep for sure.
- 40:29Speaker 6: I mean that would be that would make the Mariners
- 40:31Speaker 6: pitching staff one of the scariest in baseball for sure.
- 40:34Speaker 7: And if you have good pitching, it could take you anywhere.
- 40:37Speaker 6: Yeah, absolutely, you know, I think that. I think that
- 40:41Speaker 6: move makes a lot of sense. I've heard the Pirates
- 40:44Speaker 6: are interested in him, which would be kind of a
- 40:46Speaker 6: crazy move.
- 40:47Speaker 7: Well, that would be stunning, wouldn't it.
- 40:48Speaker 6: Yeah, but and probably, let's be real, the Dodgers are
- 40:53Speaker 6: gonna get both of them.
- 40:55Speaker 7: Yeah, I hate you just said that. Right now. I
- 40:59Speaker 7: do it. They always, they always do. And you know,
- 41:02Speaker 7: that's you start to see some of the writing on
- 41:04Speaker 7: the wall. And I hate to bring that back up again,
- 41:06Speaker 7: but you see what's going on in the past couple
- 41:08Speaker 7: of years, and you unload billions essentially of dollars on
- 41:13Speaker 7: a payroll and congratulations, now you've won the past two
- 41:17Speaker 7: World Series. It's there is a huge correlation to it,
- 41:20Speaker 7: and so you go do the same thing. They're number
- 41:23Speaker 7: one in the standings right now. Yeah, that no wonder,
- 41:26Speaker 7: there's going to be a lockout concern that's kind of
- 41:29Speaker 7: how that's all going, so you But like you said
- 41:31Speaker 7: that it wouldn't It would not be stunning one bit
- 41:33Speaker 7: if both of them went out there to Chevez Ravine.
- 41:36Speaker 6: And then one more that I want to talk about
- 41:38Speaker 6: real quick before we get to the Astros report, and
- 41:41Speaker 6: then on the next segment, I want to talk about
- 41:44Speaker 6: who the Astros will get. But while we're just looking
- 41:47Speaker 6: at the MLB as a whole, I think the Angels
- 41:50Speaker 6: are going to continue to sell. We already saw them
- 41:53Speaker 6: trade logan O Hoppy away and I think the next
- 41:56Speaker 6: guy on the list is read Debt Meers. He has been,
- 42:02Speaker 6: you know, a very solid pitcher. He's only twenty seven
- 42:06Speaker 6: years old, won't be a free agent until twenty twenty nine,
- 42:09Speaker 6: so there is some control there. And I really like
- 42:16Speaker 6: the White Sox have been such a great story this year,
- 42:18Speaker 6: and I think that they would be fantastic if they
- 42:20Speaker 6: would go out and make a move to capitalize on
- 42:22Speaker 6: the success that they're having. So I think they're going
- 42:24Speaker 6: to go out get a solid starting pitcher and read
- 42:26Speaker 6: det Meers.
- 42:27Speaker 8: And I'm excited to.
- 42:28Speaker 7: See it because I was thinking in the al Central
- 42:31Speaker 7: that would probably be the best idea. And then you
- 42:34Speaker 7: know with with Southside and Chicago, they're what they're doing
- 42:37Speaker 7: this year, and that's something they could They've they've got
- 42:41Speaker 7: great offense and so locked down a decent pitcher. I
- 42:45Speaker 7: can't imagine the return is going to be insane, but
- 42:49Speaker 7: I think it could be doable for them, And I
- 42:51Speaker 7: think that's that's it seems like a match made in
- 42:53Speaker 7: heaven there that the White Sox could really capitalize on
- 42:56Speaker 7: this not having not having a swing for schoobl and
- 43:00Speaker 7: give a whole big package for that, but go after
- 43:02Speaker 7: debt mers and put you in an even better spot
- 43:05Speaker 7: is there, you know, game and a half ahead of
- 43:08Speaker 7: of Cleveland right now. I think that'd be perfect for Chicago.
- 43:12Speaker 6: Yeah, and the White Sox have three young infielders coming
- 43:18Speaker 6: up through their ranks while also having a very solid
- 43:23Speaker 6: infield in the big leagues right now with Colson Montgomery,
- 43:26Speaker 6: Miguel Vargas, Munataka, Murray Kami, So there's that's a position
- 43:31Speaker 6: of depth for them. I think that's probably one of
- 43:33Speaker 6: those names. One of those prospects coming up in the
- 43:37Speaker 6: infield is probably who would get dealt. Do you have
- 43:39Speaker 6: anybody else, just any non astros moves left that you
- 43:43Speaker 6: that you predicted.
- 43:44Speaker 7: No, I'm that's these are the ones. I'm glad we
- 43:46Speaker 7: talked about Miller as much as we did. That was
- 43:49Speaker 7: that was one. I know there's been a lot of
- 43:50Speaker 7: rumblings that he may just he may not go, but
- 43:53Speaker 7: I I think he's out of there.
- 43:55Speaker 8: I think, yeah, yeah, I think.
- 43:57Speaker 6: I mean, the Padres have had very interesting history with
- 44:03Speaker 6: their trades, and again they're one of those teams that's
- 44:06Speaker 6: still there in the mix. But I don't know how
- 44:09Speaker 6: realistic them climbing climbing back into it is. I don't
- 44:15Speaker 6: know if he'll get moved. I think of the of
- 44:16Speaker 6: the names we've talked about, I think he might be
- 44:18Speaker 6: the one that's most likely to just stay put, especially
- 44:21Speaker 6: because he has.
- 44:22Speaker 8: A couple more years of control.
- 44:24Speaker 6: But I think the pojects probably should move him and
- 44:26Speaker 6: capitalize on his value that he has, because it's never
- 44:29Speaker 6: going to be higher than it is right now. Yeah,
- 44:31Speaker 6: So if they do decide to move him, they need
- 44:34Speaker 6: to make sure they get a big package.
- 44:36Speaker 7: Yeah. If you don't see a severe realistic expectation of
- 44:40Speaker 7: success right now, market value for him is highest right now. Absolutely,
- 44:44Speaker 7: bite the bullet, do it.
- 44:46Speaker 6: With that, we are going to take another break. The

- 45:58Speaker 19: Astro start a bit rough last night versus the Angels,
- 46:01Speaker 19: but Yiner Diaz starts the scoring off with a dinger.
- 46:05Speaker 20: Appall delivered deep to left field.
- 46:07Speaker 8: Back on it as Meckler, He'll watch.
- 46:09Speaker 18: That one go.
- 46:11Speaker 20: Yiner Diaz home run number seven on this season.
- 46:14Speaker 7: Gets one of the runs.
- 46:15Speaker 15: Back.
- 46:16Speaker 7: Is now a three to one game and the.
- 46:18Speaker 19: Astros take the lead in the six off the bat
- 46:20Speaker 19: of Cam Smithdamn.
- 46:23Speaker 20: Hits the ball fair down the left field line. Trammel
- 46:26Speaker 20: will score. Yiner Diaz heads the third. He's gonna be
- 46:29Speaker 20: waved around by Paris Checup. Yiner's gonna score two rbid
- 46:33Speaker 20: double by Cam Smith.
- 46:35Speaker 12: Astro's lead four to three.
- 46:37Speaker 19: Astros pick up some insurance runs late and get the
- 46:40Speaker 19: win over the Angels. Seven to four brings a record
- 46:43Speaker 19: to one game over five hundred at fifty five and
- 46:45Speaker 19: fifty four, and they'll face the first place Rangers tomorrow

- 48:04Speaker 6: Thursday, we are back from the astros report. Caleb Rapley
- 48:08Speaker 6: and Andrew rap Silver with you this afternoon. And we
- 48:12Speaker 6: do have a couple new a couple moves that just
- 48:16Speaker 6: got made in the MLB as Jake Rogers is heading
- 48:21Speaker 6: from the Tigers to the Orioles, their backup catcher in Detroit,
- 48:25Speaker 6: going over to Baltimore to give them a little more
- 48:28Speaker 6: catching depth. Rogers had been the backup for the last
- 48:31Speaker 6: couple of years with Dylan Dingler's emergence.
- 48:33Speaker 8: One of the best names in baseball.
- 48:34Speaker 6: By the way, Rogers was actually one of the big
- 48:38Speaker 6: pieces that the Astros sent over to the Tigers to
- 48:41Speaker 6: acquire Justin Verlander back in twenty seventeen. So Baltimore adding
- 48:45Speaker 6: some catching depth. And one more move that was announced
- 48:48Speaker 6: this morning. Reportedly, the Detroit Tigers are calling up their
- 48:52Speaker 6: top prospect, Max Clark.
- 48:54Speaker 8: To the big leagues.
- 48:56Speaker 6: This is a move that has been long anticipated. Clark's
- 49:01Speaker 6: been one of the top prospects in baseball for the
- 49:05Speaker 6: last few years after being the number three overall pick
- 49:08Speaker 6: in the twenty twenty three draft.
- 49:10Speaker 8: He's hitting two seventy.
- 49:11Speaker 6: Six with ten homers and twenty one steals so far
- 49:15Speaker 6: this season in Triple A, one of the youngest players
- 49:20Speaker 6: in Triple A and has been on fire since about
- 49:25Speaker 6: mid June. He's hitting three thirty. So excited to see
- 49:28Speaker 6: Clark and his big league debut this weekend hopefully, and
- 49:35Speaker 6: with that, we're going to get into more of our
- 49:37Speaker 6: trade deadline discussions and I want to get a little
- 49:41Speaker 6: more Astros focused here. As we you know, kind of
- 49:46Speaker 6: took the ten thousand foot view in the last segment.
- 49:49Speaker 6: So my wish list for the Astros, I want at
- 49:55Speaker 6: least two major league ready can ttributing players. I need
- 50:02Speaker 6: one left handed hitter and I need one pitcher. I
- 50:06Speaker 6: would love to have two left handed hitters, but that's
- 50:08Speaker 6: not really realistic. So here are the players my main
- 50:12Speaker 6: three that I have that I would like. Number one,
- 50:16Speaker 6: if this is possible, get it done, but it's it's
- 50:19Speaker 6: kind of the most unrealistic. One luis a Rise. If
- 50:22Speaker 6: they can go get Luisa Rise and have the best
- 50:27Speaker 6: contact hitter in the game right now, paired with Jordan Alvarez,
- 50:30Speaker 6: that would be an absolute game changer. I don't really
- 50:34Speaker 6: care about positional fit. I know that he's been great
- 50:36Speaker 6: at second base and that's where Hosel Tuova plays. I
- 50:39Speaker 6: don't really care about positional fit. We can make it work.
- 50:42Speaker 6: We need another solid left handed bat. I don't know
- 50:47Speaker 6: how realistic that is. I've seen him projected to go
- 50:49Speaker 6: to one of those big name teams that are at
- 50:52Speaker 6: the top of the league right now, like the Rays
- 50:55Speaker 6: or the Dodgers, But I think that that's my nonumber
- 51:00Speaker 6: one that should that should be Dana Brown's number one target.
- 51:02Speaker 7: In my opinion, I think, and I I touched on
- 51:08Speaker 7: this earlier. We we cannot, I think, be irresponsible and
- 51:13Speaker 7: be full on buyers and and go after the biggest
- 51:17Speaker 7: names after the schoolbls and give anything we have left
- 51:21Speaker 7: in the prospect pool or even major league ready players.
- 51:26Speaker 7: You know, I taught you like to talk about the
- 51:27Speaker 7: left handed or left handed bat, especially in the outfield.
- 51:31Speaker 7: Look at Mickey Moniac out of Colorado. I think that's
- 51:34Speaker 7: a that's a more reserved option as opposed to Luis Rise.
- 51:38Speaker 7: You not have to give as much there. Jake McCarthy
- 51:40Speaker 7: another option from from Colorado. Of course, pitching has been
- 51:45Speaker 7: the problem. Of course, injuries have been an issue as well.
- 51:48Speaker 7: When when is an ever not an issue? Sure, I
- 51:52Speaker 7: think you could. You know, I've always been amazed with
- 51:56Speaker 7: what the Astros pitching coaches have been able to do
- 51:59Speaker 7: with some guys. Yeah, I and so I've never really
- 52:03Speaker 7: felt like in terms of bullpen arms and those starters
- 52:05Speaker 7: are a different story. We've revitalized so many players and
- 52:09Speaker 7: like Hector Narris being being one of those in the past, Like,
- 52:14Speaker 7: is there an option out there of bullpen arms that
- 52:18Speaker 7: we see something in that we don't have to trade
- 52:21Speaker 7: very much for that can rejuvenate some of the bullpen,
- 52:24Speaker 7: or even do that with a starter in a and
- 52:27Speaker 7: you know, like rental options out there like Robbie Raid
- 52:30Speaker 7: right now or Jamison Tywne or something of that. I
- 52:34Speaker 7: just I would not be pleased. You know, every year
- 52:37Speaker 7: in the Dana Brown era, twenty twenty three you have
- 52:40Speaker 7: the Justin Verlander trade. You know, twenty twenty four, we
- 52:44Speaker 7: trade several top prospects to get Yuseay Kakuchi, who did
- 52:50Speaker 7: not even pitch in the playoffs, and we were.
- 52:52Speaker 8: That wasn't that wasn't his fault, and he pitched really
- 52:54Speaker 8: well for us.
- 52:55Speaker 7: And he did for the remainder of the regular season.
- 52:57Speaker 7: But more of the story, you go to playoff time,
- 53:00Speaker 7: when you're out in two games in the wild card
- 53:02Speaker 7: yep and then Korea Trey Way, if you count that
- 53:05Speaker 7: as the big splash last year, of course, there's that.
- 53:09Speaker 7: I just I think less is more this year when
- 53:14Speaker 7: it comes down to it, I think we have such
- 53:16Speaker 7: a talented offensive side of the spectrum, but I feel
- 53:21Speaker 7: like we've needed a left handed outfielder for several years now,
- 53:26Speaker 7: so it would be great to get that done.
- 53:28Speaker 6: Yeah, that's the number one I just said to Riah
- 53:31Speaker 6: is because he's the most talented hitter on the market
- 53:35Speaker 6: and if we can get him, I would love That's
- 53:38Speaker 6: so that's why it was my number one.
- 53:39Speaker 8: My number two is Jake McCarthy.
- 53:41Speaker 6: I think he's the best option as far as left
- 53:44Speaker 6: handed hitting outfielders go right now, and I'd be fine
- 53:47Speaker 6: with Mickey Moniac if it's not McCarthy, But McCarthy is
- 53:50Speaker 6: my number one, just because of that speed and defense
- 53:53Speaker 6: that he also brings to the table that you know,
- 53:55Speaker 6: if he ends up not being if his offense falls
- 53:59Speaker 6: off a little bit, we know that he's going to
- 54:01Speaker 6: be an elite level base runner and defense in center field.
- 54:07Speaker 6: So not that you know I want him to do that,
- 54:10Speaker 6: but if it does happen, he at least will contribute
- 54:12Speaker 6: in that way. And then, like I said, Mickey Moniac
- 54:15Speaker 6: would be would be nice. I'd be fine with that.
- 54:18Speaker 6: As far as the pitchers go, I think maybe like
- 54:21Speaker 6: a Kinley Jansen I mentioned earlier, could be a possibility
- 54:25Speaker 6: if they want to get bullpen help, But I don't
- 54:27Speaker 6: I don't really know that I want them to spend
- 54:30Speaker 6: anything on the bullpen. I think the priority definitely needs
- 54:35Speaker 6: to be starting pitcher right over bullpen, just because our
- 54:39Speaker 6: starting pitchers this year have really been what's held us back,
- 54:42Speaker 6: yes the entire season. And I agree with you as
- 54:47Speaker 6: far as being conservative for this year that they prop
- 54:52Speaker 6: that that would be the smart thing to do. But
- 54:55Speaker 6: I think Dana Brown's job is probably on the line
- 54:57Speaker 6: this year if he doesn't if if we don't make
- 55:00Speaker 6: the playoffs, I think he.
- 55:01Speaker 8: Might be gone. I would think he's going to be
- 55:03Speaker 8: a little over aggressive.
- 55:04Speaker 7: I was set to ask you that just as soon
- 55:06Speaker 7: as soon as you were getting finished. How much does
- 55:10Speaker 7: the fact that Dana Brown is on quite the hot set? Yeah,
- 55:13Speaker 7: you know the famous quote from Jim Crane, whenever I'm here,
- 55:17Speaker 7: we are always in a championship window. Well we're not.
- 55:20Speaker 7: We're not at the moment, and so that falls a
- 55:23Speaker 7: lot on the shoulders. Potentially if Dana Brown Joe Aspata's
- 55:26Speaker 7: expiring contract as well, potential that both of those guys
- 55:30Speaker 7: could be out the door at season's end. Twenty twenty
- 55:33Speaker 7: two World Series Championship, Dana Brown's first year was the
- 55:36Speaker 7: next year, still a lot of core pieces, so that
- 55:38Speaker 7: we go to the ALCS Game seven, lose to the Rangers,
- 55:41Speaker 7: and then you drop off, and you lose in the
- 55:43Speaker 7: wild Card in twenty twenty four, and you don't even
- 55:45Speaker 7: make it in twenty twenty five, very very quick, after
- 55:49Speaker 7: those over half a decade of appearances in the ALCS
- 55:54Speaker 7: and the several World Series appearances and a couple of
- 55:57Speaker 7: rings thrown in there as well.
- 55:58Speaker 6: That's so I wonder why to drop off. It makes
- 56:00Speaker 6: you wonder why we got rid of James Click.
- 56:03Speaker 7: They're always that, We always heard the internal tension between
- 56:07Speaker 7: him and Crane, who cares. Yeah, if you win, that's
- 56:10Speaker 7: what I'm saying, put it aside, put it aside, and
- 56:13Speaker 7: get over your personal ego. If you've hoisted a World
- 56:16Speaker 7: Series trophy, grow up. That's all I've got.
- 56:20Speaker 6: And yeah, because Click, we we won the World Series
- 56:24Speaker 6: and then he didn't.
- 56:25Speaker 7: Come back after that, that it will never mind blowing.
- 56:29Speaker 8: It's mind blowing and.
- 56:30Speaker 7: So and it's been an incredible disappointment since then. Yeah,
- 56:34Speaker 7: I know, and I know you're not gonna have the
- 56:37Speaker 7: You're not going to make the ALCS for twenty straight years.
- 56:40Speaker 7: You're not going to have that happen. But the competitiveness
- 56:44Speaker 7: in terms of being consistent playoff performance. You know, look
- 56:48Speaker 7: at the Yankees, for instance, there's a couple of years
- 56:50Speaker 7: where they missed out, but they're always in contention for
- 56:53Speaker 7: the division, make it to the Alcs, even you've got
- 56:55Speaker 7: the World Series appearance. They just had the Astros built
- 56:59Speaker 7: that to where you can be year in and year
- 57:01Speaker 7: out contenders. Yeah, you have been. Dana Brown, come in now,
- 57:05Speaker 7: and it's it's sort of been a not disaster, but
- 57:09Speaker 7: not good either. So it's it's certainly a the wheels
- 57:15Speaker 7: have sort of fallen off to a degree, and so
- 57:17Speaker 7: how do we get it back on? And I think
- 57:19Speaker 7: I do wonder about that with with Dana Brown in
- 57:23Speaker 7: his last year, I think he may say, just you know,
- 57:26Speaker 7: with with forget everything else, just I'm gonna save my
- 57:30Speaker 7: job and go do whatever we can to get the
- 57:32Speaker 7: biggest name and try and win as much as we can.
- 57:34Speaker 21: Yeah.
- 57:34Speaker 8: I agree.
- 57:35Speaker 6: Well, that's about all the time we have in this hour.
- 57:37Speaker 6: We're gonna take a break and in the five o'clock hour,
- 57:39Speaker 6: we're gonna get into our college football predictions. This is
- 57:42Speaker 6: Chip Howard Sports Talk on the Zone.
