- 0:00Podcasthero.com Welcome to The Daily Quote, a podcast designed
- 0:08to kick start your day in a positive way.
- 0:12I'm your host, Andrew McGivern for November 21st.
- 0:15Hello. Today is World Hello Day, a
- 0:20global celebration of communication and peace.
- 0:24Founded in 1973 by brothers Brian and Michael McCormick in
- 0:29response to the Yam Kippur War, World Hello Day promotes a
- 0:34simple idea. Conflict should be resolved
- 0:38through communication, not force.
- 0:42The tradition is beautifully straightforward.
- 0:45Greet at least 10 people today. That's it.
- 0:50No grand gestures, no protests, no petitions.
- 0:54Just say hello to attend people and demonstrate that personal
- 0:59communication can change the world.
- 1:03Since its founding, World Hello Day has been observed in 180
- 1:06countries, supported by Nobel Peace Prize winners and embraced
- 1:11by world leaders. It's proof that the smallest
- 1:15acts, a greeting, a smile, a moment of acknowledgement can
- 1:21build bridges. Television producer Phil
- 1:25Rosenthal captured this perfectly when he once said, you
- 1:30know what happens when you say hello or good morning?
- 1:36You make a connection. And isn't that what being human
- 1:40is all about? Rosenthal understands that every
- 1:45greeting is an act of recognition.
- 1:47When you say hello, you're saying, I see you.
- 1:50You exist, you matter. In a distracted world, heads
- 1:57down, earbuds in, eyes on screens, a simple hello is
- 2:03radical. It breaks the bubble of
- 2:06isolation. It acknowledges shared humanity.
- 2:10It creates, even for a second, a connection.
- 2:17World Hello Day reminds us that peace doesn't start with
- 2:20treaties or negotiations, It starts with the willingness to
- 2:24acknowledge another person's existence.
- 2:27Every conflict resolved began with someone saying hello and
- 2:32choosing communication over silence.
- 2:37There's an older man who walks the same route I do every
- 2:40morning in the trail, and for weeks we'd pass without
- 2:44acknowledgement 2 strangers avoiding eye contact.
- 2:48One day I said good morning. He looked surprised, then smiled
- 2:53and said good morning to you, too.
- 2:56Now we greet each other almost every day.
- 2:59I know his name, he knows mine, and sometimes we chat about the
- 3:03weather or talk about our latest bear sightings or other wildlife
- 3:07in the trail. That simple good morning
- 3:11transformed my walk. What was once a solo routine
- 3:16became a moment of human connection.
- 3:19All because someone said hello. So today, greet 10 people and
- 3:24say hello. Say hello to your barista, your
- 3:27mail carrier, your Co worker, the stranger in the elevator.
- 3:32Make eye contact, smile and acknowledge their presence and
- 3:37notice what happens. Notice how it feels to connect,
- 3:41even briefly. Notice how most people light up
- 3:44when you say something and you actually see them?
- 3:50World Hello Day reminds us. P starts small.
- 3:54It starts with hello. It starts with choosing
- 3:57connection over isolation, and it starts with you.
- 4:02So go ahead, make 10 connections today.
- 4:04Be the person who says hello. That's going to do it for today.
- 4:10I'm Andrew McGivern, signing off for now but I'll be back
- 4:15tomorrow. Same part time, same pod station
- 4:21with another daily quote.
