- 0:39SPEAKER_02: Welcome in everybody to the Talk and Tech Podcast.
- 0:43SPEAKER_02: I am your host, Steven Rodriguez.
- 0:45SPEAKER_02: My co-host Tristan McGonagall is here.
- 0:47SPEAKER_02: Tristan, football starts this weekend.
- 0:51SPEAKER_06: Week zero.
- 0:53SPEAKER_06: And I know there are plenty of men out there punching air because their wives haven't realized that football season has begun and they're still planning stuff on Saturday.
- 1:04SPEAKER_02: Can't stop, won't stop with them.
- 1:06SPEAKER_02: They're trying to squeeze every inch of football off season out so we can they can drag us to the restaurants and to the antique shops and to the outlet mall and to whatever that their mind comes up with.
- 1:20SPEAKER_02: Pottery classes, sushi making classes.
- 1:23SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
- 1:23SPEAKER_02: Whatever tickles their fancy.
- 1:25SPEAKER_06: Um wives ruin football weekends for the love of a game of the game, man.
- 1:30SPEAKER_06: They just they they they they do it purely for the sport of it.
- 1:34SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:35SPEAKER_02: No, they're they're very upset.
- 1:36SPEAKER_02: Uh, our friends selfishly decided to schedule a baby shower.
- 1:41SPEAKER_02: No, we're very excited to go.
- 1:43SPEAKER_06: It was a subtweet the entire time.
- 1:45SPEAKER_02: It was I'm I'm looking forward to it.
- 1:47SPEAKER_02: But yes, we are uh well, I don't know.
- 1:50SPEAKER_02: We'll see.
- 1:51SPEAKER_07: This will say subtweet subtweet?
- 1:54SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:55SPEAKER_02: So what do you mean?
- 1:56SPEAKER_02: Sub subseats?
- 1:58SPEAKER_02: Sub X, subpost.
- 2:00SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
- 2:01SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
- 2:02SPEAKER_02: Um, we have a fun, we have a fun little show for you guys tonight.
- 2:06SPEAKER_02: Uh we're doing superlatives.
- 2:07SPEAKER_02: We have some awards that we're giving out right before the season starts for big five for Texas Tech, five for the Big 12 as a whole.
- 2:15SPEAKER_02: We're gonna give a little predictions on what we think is gonna happen with the Big 12, and uh then we're gonna finish with a song of the week.
- 2:22SPEAKER_02: But we got a couple things that we need to hit on first since this is a Texas Tech podcast.
- 2:27SPEAKER_02: A few things have been in the news for Texas Tech.
- 2:30SPEAKER_02: Uh one is a downer, very much, uh, very much a downer.
- 2:34SPEAKER_02: Uh Quentin Joyner, who was going into the season as our running back one transfer from USC, uh, has unfortunately been ruled out for the season with a torn ACL that I believe he suffered in the second spring uh or the second fall practice scrimmage.
- 2:51SPEAKER_02: Um this sucks.
- 2:53SPEAKER_02: Sucks because Quinn Joyner was going to be a huge part of this offense.
- 2:56SPEAKER_02: Um, I think was a breakout candidate for a lot of national people and also within the Texas Tech program.
- 3:02SPEAKER_02: Um, and it just sucks to lose uh a key back to what was already, you know.
- 3:07SPEAKER_02: Uh I'd say it was a pretty deep room in general, but um, you know, obviously losing uh your RB1 sucks.
- 3:15SPEAKER_06: Are we beating the cursed allegations?
- 3:19SPEAKER_02: Uh we'll see.
- 3:20SPEAKER_06: The set the the season has not begun yet, and we're losing uh important players to that uh injury monster.
- 3:29SPEAKER_06: Do we do we punish the defensive player that caused this?
- 3:33SPEAKER_06: Do they need to hit some bleachers?
- 3:34SPEAKER_06: So Wildcat Miles.
- 3:37SPEAKER_02: From what I understand after listening to Joey's podcast, it was a non-contact injury, which a lot of ACL injuries are.
- 3:44SPEAKER_02: So maybe we don't blame anybody, maybe we just blame the football gods themselves.
- 3:49SPEAKER_02: Maybe it was a trainer's fault.
- 3:51SPEAKER_06: Maybe maybe the trainer didn't stretch them out right.
- 3:53SPEAKER_02: That's it.
- 3:56SPEAKER_02: Blame the training staff for ACL tear.
- 3:58SPEAKER_06: You gotta, if he's a student, you gotta fail him for that.
- 4:01SPEAKER_06: Like if he's getting grades for this, he's he fail.
- 4:06SPEAKER_02: Need a doctor's note to uh not to skip gym class.
- 4:11SPEAKER_02: Um no, this sucks because uh Quinn was going to be a huge part of the team.
- 4:16SPEAKER_02: I was very excited about Quinn Joyner.
- 4:18SPEAKER_02: Um, he was very highly touted in the transfer portal.
- 4:22SPEAKER_02: A lot of big name schools wanted him.
- 4:23SPEAKER_02: Texas Tech ended up grabbing him.
- 4:26SPEAKER_02: Um, and now we're down to two true sophomores and um a red shirt freshman um running this backfield replacing Tosh Brooks.
- 4:35SPEAKER_02: How how are you feeling about about Cam Dickey and Jacoby Williams leading the way?
- 4:39SPEAKER_06: Are we allowed to get another transfer running back in there just real quick?
- 4:46SPEAKER_02: Just real just for the just like for the season.
- 4:48SPEAKER_06: Yeah, yeah.
- 4:49SPEAKER_02: No, I think that's a good idea.
- 4:51SPEAKER_02: Let's go call up, you know, we got these fat sacks.
- 4:53SPEAKER_02: Maybe we can buy out a Derrick Henry from his contract, yeah.
- 4:58SPEAKER_02: A uh James Cook from his new contract with the Buffalo Bills.
- 5:02SPEAKER_02: Um, or maybe Taj Brooks.
- 5:04SPEAKER_07: No, Steven it's the Buffalo Bulls uh in the back college football.
- 5:10SPEAKER_02: That's what I'm talking about here, dude.
- 5:13SPEAKER_06: I mean, I it there's gotta be some running washed out running backs out there that haven't completed their four years of college of eligibility.
- 5:20SPEAKER_06: There's gotta be somebody out there.
- 5:22SPEAKER_06: Go get a 28-year-old with brittle bones at this point, who's just put his body through a meat grinder and get strap on and get him out there.
- 5:31SPEAKER_02: Do you want to hear some cope?
- 5:33SPEAKER_06: Oh, that's what am I doing right now?
- 5:36SPEAKER_02: You want to hear some cope?
- 5:37SPEAKER_06: Real cope.
- 5:38SPEAKER_06: So, like some genuine copium?
- 5:40SPEAKER_02: Genuine copium.
- 5:41SPEAKER_02: I got it right here for you.
- 5:42SPEAKER_06: Let's hear it.
- 5:44SPEAKER_02: Cam Dickey and Jacoby Williams are gonna be good.
- 5:47SPEAKER_02: Now, would it have been better had we had Quentin Joyner in the mix?
- 5:53SPEAKER_02: Absolutely.
- 5:54SPEAKER_02: But I really liked what we saw out of both of those running backs who were on Texas Tech's roster last year, who were true freshmen last year, that now have a full season, full off season.
- 6:06SPEAKER_02: They played meaningful snaps last year, they both did very well in the bowl game where Taj Brooks did not play.
- 6:13SPEAKER_02: I'm excited to see both of these guys, uh, even though I am frustrated that it's not gonna be a three-headed running back and more of a two.
- 6:22SPEAKER_06: Well, we just get some walk-ons going.
- 6:25SPEAKER_02: Well, that's what Adam Hill is.
- 6:27SPEAKER_02: Adam Hill is the third string now, who is a red shirt freshman walk-on, who some people are upset uh that Red Raider Sports is hyping him up um these days.
- 6:36SPEAKER_02: But I, you know, I I don't think Adam Hill's gonna get on the field much, even with this injury.
- 6:42SPEAKER_02: If he does, it's going to be very minimal.
- 6:44SPEAKER_02: Um, I will eat crow if he decides to to break out and and be a real guy for Texas Tech this year.
- 6:50SPEAKER_02: But um, this is this is the Cam Dickey Jacoby Williams show.
- 6:53SPEAKER_06: Steven, you're a big guy.
- 6:55SPEAKER_06: You're a bigger guy.
- 6:55SPEAKER_06: You got some girth, you know.
- 6:58SPEAKER_06: Thank you.
- 6:58SPEAKER_06: You don't you don't think you can you don't think you can uh get in that mix?
- 7:04SPEAKER_02: Uh running backs are usually a little shorter than me, my guy.
- 7:07SPEAKER_02: Um you're actually more running back sized.
- 7:10SPEAKER_07: Uh I'm I am size?
- 7:13SPEAKER_07: Size.
- 7:14SPEAKER_02: No, no, not you gotta get in the weight room here.
- 7:17SPEAKER_02: Maybe the heights?
- 7:19SPEAKER_02: Yeah, wise, you're there.
- 7:20SPEAKER_02: You're actually taller, I think, than Jacoby Williams.
- 7:23SPEAKER_02: So hey.
- 7:24SPEAKER_06: I mean, if if whoever's there listed on any uh roster, it's like subtract two inches, right?
- 7:31SPEAKER_02: Listen, what we could do, use Cam Dickey and Jacoby Williams for the majority of the runs.
- 7:36SPEAKER_02: And then when you get in the goal line set, just throw in Lee Hunter and just let that throw in the fridge and get another refrigerator perry situation where you need two yards, throw, give it to the big man.
- 7:48SPEAKER_06: What what if what if what if what if we put Jacoby and Cam in a trench coat, stacked them on top of each other, and made a soup made a super player called Mr.
- 8:01SPEAKER_06: Football Man.
- 8:02SPEAKER_02: You don't need hike as the running back was but that would be not helpful.
- 8:06SPEAKER_06: You know, you do you understand how you could break the game though?
- 8:10SPEAKER_06: Like you're this is bad.
- 8:12SPEAKER_02: We would be horrible, horrible football coaches.
- 8:15SPEAKER_02: Like the worst on the planet.
- 8:18SPEAKER_02: Um, uh you're you're reduced now because Jacoby Williams is in and and we talked about it last week when we were kind of breaking down the roster.
- 8:28SPEAKER_02: Um, but Jacoby's a speakster, he's a guy that can break out for a 60-yard run, 70-yard run, uh, you know, if he gets uh if he gets a little bit of space.
- 8:37SPEAKER_02: And uh and Cam Dickey is more of a powerback.
- 8:39SPEAKER_02: So they do kind of you know complement each other in uh moving forward.
- 8:43SPEAKER_02: And I think I I don't even know who's gonna be like the first one out there.
- 8:47SPEAKER_02: I don't know if they're going to do that.
- 8:49SPEAKER_02: I think they're gonna go these first couple weeks um kind of feeling it out, seeing if someone, if one of those two breaks out and maybe try to use them as a three-down back.
- 9:00SPEAKER_02: Um, or maybe they'll switch off series.
- 9:02SPEAKER_02: I'm not sure what Joey McGuire and and the squad are gonna plan on doing here, but uh it definitely kind of throws a wrench into things.
- 9:10SPEAKER_06: Do you think Coach Mack is punching air right now?
- 9:13SPEAKER_06: I mean Do you think he's like lighting some playbooks on fire right now?
- 9:18SPEAKER_06: So does this also script the drive?
- 9:22SPEAKER_02: Does this also mean Barron Morton has now more on his shoulders?
- 9:25SPEAKER_02: That he is going to now they're gonna have to go pass game a whole lot more um because you no longer have maybe a reliable running back or the depth that you had two days ago.
- 9:36SPEAKER_02: Um so uh we already think this is a big season for Barron.
- 9:40SPEAKER_02: This might have just put uh a little more on his shoulders, which um I don't love, but you know, hey, injuries happen and you gotta get through them.
- 9:48SPEAKER_02: Uh so there's no use in in bitching about it.
- 9:51SPEAKER_06: Well, I don't need anything uh adding any more bodily pressure onto our boy Barron.
- 9:58SPEAKER_06: Okay, I want him healthy.
- 10:00SPEAKER_06: I don't need any of this philosophical metaphorical weight on his shoulders.
- 10:04SPEAKER_02: Yeah, no doubt.
- 10:05SPEAKER_02: It's uh uh we we need Barron to be real good this year, and and he needs help from his running backs.
- 10:11SPEAKER_06: Stephen, is this does this mean we need more QB option runs?
- 10:14SPEAKER_06: Is that what I'm is that what I'm hearing from you right now?
- 10:16SPEAKER_06: No, no, I'm is that what I is that what you are describing?
- 10:19SPEAKER_06: Is that the is that the medication?
- 10:21SPEAKER_02: Barron's good in the run game.
- 10:23SPEAKER_02: He just doesn't need to do it that often because he needs to protect himself.
- 10:26SPEAKER_02: But uh I do I do just also feel genuinely bad for for Gwyn joyner.
- 10:30SPEAKER_02: I think he was going into this year thinking he was gonna um you know really break out.
- 10:35SPEAKER_02: And you know, he had 500 yards and three touchdowns last year.
- 10:38SPEAKER_02: It's not like he didn't do anything, but this was kind of gonna be his chance to be a true running back one.
- 10:44SPEAKER_02: Um, and it's gonna be now set back a year, and uh he's gonna have quite the recovery out of him.
- 10:49SPEAKER_02: So luckily for all these guys, they have um really good training staffs and really good uh uh you know plans for recovery on this type of stuff.
- 10:58SPEAKER_02: And um, you know, he'll I I think he'll come back.
- 11:01SPEAKER_02: He's young enough too to where he'll he'll bounce back and uh probably be back to fully 100%.
- 11:06SPEAKER_02: But um, yeah, just just a shitty way to start the week.
- 11:10SPEAKER_06: Additionally, I think the good news is this guy can probably get a medical red shirt now.
- 11:13SPEAKER_06: Oh 100%.
- 11:14SPEAKER_06: It's it's just so he he has what three years at three years at least out of him.
- 11:19SPEAKER_06: So that's it.
- 11:20SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I mean, obviously he probably has NFL dreams past that, but uh yeah, man, it's it's a uh serious hat back on.
- 11:28SPEAKER_06: I'm just it's just gonna maybe use in humor as a cope, but um it I really hope this doesn't derail any of our ambitions.
- 11:35SPEAKER_06: I don't think it should.
- 11:36SPEAKER_06: I think our team is way more than good enough than just one running back, and that's not a hit on J uh on Quentin at all.
- 11:42SPEAKER_06: It's just I think there's too much uh power behind this team to be held back by one guy.
- 11:48SPEAKER_06: That's not the quarterback, I should say.
- 11:51SPEAKER_02: Yep, next man up.
- 11:52SPEAKER_02: We shall see, but uh best of luck to him and his recovery.
- 11:55SPEAKER_02: And uh we're we're big uh Jacoby Williams and Cam Dickey guys now.
- 11:59SPEAKER_02: So the Big 12.
- 12:02SPEAKER_02: The Big 12 has decided no more tortillas.
- 12:07SPEAKER_02: We don't like tortillas.
- 12:09SPEAKER_02: What's up with that, dude?
- 12:10SPEAKER_02: What's going on?
- 12:11SPEAKER_06: They said they could you can have the tortillas as an appetizer, but you you cannot indulge past the eau d'oeuvres with tortillas at a football game.
- 12:21SPEAKER_02: This is the thing.
- 12:24SPEAKER_02: The most tortillas that are that are tossed are obviously the first kickoff, and then there's also a good amount of tortillas tossed at the beginning of the second half.
- 12:33SPEAKER_02: Um, now we do toss tort tortillas are tossed, you know, pretty much every kickoff.
- 12:38SPEAKER_06: Periodically.
- 12:39SPEAKER_02: Periodically, but it's usually not a lot.
- 12:42SPEAKER_02: I'm I'm curious to see how they're actually going to officiate this and if they're going to do something about this, and if Texas Tech is going to get assessed penalties.
- 12:52SPEAKER_02: It it really seems like the Big 12 did this for not a lot of reason.
- 12:59SPEAKER_02: Um I I know we had some instances last year where there were more than tortillas thrown onto the field, water bottles and um, you know, a few other things, but uh that that wasn't just a Texas Tech thing, that happened a lot of different places last year.
- 13:13SPEAKER_02: Across the country, and then all the all the 100%.
- 13:17SPEAKER_02: It happened in S in the SEC, it happened in the Big Ten.
- 13:19SPEAKER_02: People were throwing snowballs up there where it snows.
- 13:21SPEAKER_06: Was it mustard last year?
- 13:23SPEAKER_06: Was it the mustard bottle at UT?
- 13:24SPEAKER_06: Or is that Tennessee?
- 13:25SPEAKER_06: Tennessee.
- 13:26SPEAKER_06: That was Tennessee.
- 13:27SPEAKER_06: UT had the infamous water bottle like Avalanche.
- 13:30SPEAKER_02: Yeah, this is so I I just I just don't know why they had to go and do this.
- 13:35SPEAKER_02: It didn't see it didn't make any sense why you had to make a rule out of this.
- 13:38SPEAKER_02: It seems like they were personally calling out Texas Tech with the vote being 15 to 1 of all the Big 12 schools.
- 13:45SPEAKER_02: Guess who the one was?
- 13:47SPEAKER_02: Uh like I don't know.
- 13:49SPEAKER_02: This seems like a very weird move from the Big 12.
- 13:51SPEAKER_06: Yeah, it's like holy fun police, you know.
- 13:53SPEAKER_06: And I don't think any fan out there uh has a problem with the tortillas.
- 13:57SPEAKER_06: In fact, I think everyone finds it very endearing.
- 14:00SPEAKER_06: Uh, people that don't know TechTech well, a lot of people fans of the sport, a lot of them will know that we throw tortillas at the beginning of our uh football games.
- 14:07SPEAKER_06: It's just a cute quirk we have.
- 14:08SPEAKER_06: Um I think it's I yeah, I think they're being absolute fun police here.
- 14:12SPEAKER_06: And I think what happened is I feel like somebody's feelings got really hurt at one of the administrations uh at one of the schools and just picked up a snowball.
- 14:21SPEAKER_06: And I guess you just uh being in the other school just kind of went along with it, uh, more so than anything.
- 14:26SPEAKER_06: I I think it's ludicrous, I think it's stupid, and I think it's really uh funny that a lot of fans on Twitter were uh mailing tortillas to the Big 12 Irving office.
- 14:37SPEAKER_06: That's pretty funny.
- 14:38SPEAKER_06: Um, and I do appreciate um TexTech and Kirby Hokut kind of pushing back, saying, you know, we're not gonna change our traditions.
- 14:46SPEAKER_06: But here's the funny thing about that.
- 14:48SPEAKER_06: I remember in college that it always felt like we were committing a crime trying to sneak the tortillas in.
- 14:56SPEAKER_06: You know, it was like it always felt like Texas Tech never wanted to acknowledge it.
- 15:01SPEAKER_06: And now they're it's like it's our tradition again.
- 15:03SPEAKER_06: Like, what's what's going on here?
- 15:06SPEAKER_02: I think I think Joey has actually had some stuff to do with that.
- 15:11SPEAKER_02: Like the previous head coaching tenure, obviously Matt Wells was not a true, you know, Texas Tech guy.
- 15:18SPEAKER_02: He was from he was an outside hire from Utah.
- 15:20SPEAKER_02: He didn't really care about the traditions, he didn't really care to you know integrate himself into the community.
- 15:26SPEAKER_02: Cliff was a Texas tech guy, he's just very low-key and cool.
- 15:28SPEAKER_02: And he's like, you know, if it has low-key, cool, hot, handsome, low-key.
- 15:38SPEAKER_02: Man crush.
- 15:39SPEAKER_02: Uh but my texts.
- 15:42SPEAKER_02: He's he's just one of those guys that's like, hey, if they want to throw him great, whatever.
- 15:45SPEAKER_02: But Joey's kind of you know the hype man of Texas Tech now, and he obviously wants to take in all of the historical relevance that we've had, all of our traditions, all of our um different logos, and all the old bring the old players back to the new uh Texas Tech and everything.
- 16:03SPEAKER_02: So um I think he's kind of fed into the traditions that we that we do here at Texas Tech.
- 16:08SPEAKER_02: So um I don't know.
- 16:10SPEAKER_02: I I yeah, I'm I'm cool um that Kirby called it out in the presser, but it's also just like this is this is stupid.
- 16:17SPEAKER_02: We didn't need to do this, Big 12.
- 16:19SPEAKER_06: It's it's really it's really stupid.
- 16:20SPEAKER_06: Fun police.
- 16:21SPEAKER_06: Big 12 and fun police.
- 16:23SPEAKER_02: Like the like college football needs to get rid of more of the uniqueness and the and the fun traditions and everything that makes made this game so great.
- 16:31SPEAKER_06: In a conference that needs to scrape every inch of interest, too.
- 16:35SPEAKER_06: You know, like we are battling for our freaking lives out here for attention, and you're just gonna start trying to peel away the things that make these schools unique, you know, like this is crazy.
- 16:45SPEAKER_02: Yeah, they didn't need to do that, whatever.
- 16:47SPEAKER_02: Uh, we're still gonna throw tortillas, and if we get penalized 15 yards, then we're just gonna have to come up with the uh with the 25-yard first down play.
- 16:55SPEAKER_02: I like that play, dude.
- 16:56SPEAKER_02: I I do too.
- 16:57SPEAKER_02: I enjoy it greatly.
- 16:59SPEAKER_02: Uh air it out, air it out, Baron.
- 17:01SPEAKER_02: Um throwback uniforms.
- 17:04SPEAKER_02: Speaking of tradition and everything that Texas Tech has been about in the past.
- 17:09SPEAKER_02: Um, Texas Tech released a throwback uniform that they're gonna debut in the game that you and I will be at.
- 17:16SPEAKER_02: Kansas, uh they're celebrating a hundred years of tech football.
- 17:19SPEAKER_02: What did you think?
- 17:21SPEAKER_06: I love them.
- 17:22SPEAKER_06: I think they're sick, dude.
- 17:23SPEAKER_06: I think they're uh one of our coolest throwbacks that they've uh introduced in a while.
- 17:28SPEAKER_06: Like uh they're probably the coolest ones since they first introduced these uh common ones we kind of see cycled through uh each season now.
- 17:35SPEAKER_06: Uh that what was that like five, six years ago when we first started seeing those?
- 17:39SPEAKER_06: Yeah, and dude, like no, I think these are sick.
- 17:42SPEAKER_06: I mean, these are the coolest all black uniforms we have.
- 17:45SPEAKER_06: I think they're dope top to bottom, man.
- 17:46SPEAKER_06: I'm all in.
- 17:48SPEAKER_06: Um, I I I mean I even think that the just the plain tech across the front is cool for an alternate.
- 17:53SPEAKER_06: And I are they are they the Mahomes edition or no?
- 17:56SPEAKER_02: I don't think they're the Mahomes edition.
- 17:58SPEAKER_02: I think they're still gonna bust out the whatever he called it last year.
- 18:01SPEAKER_02: Uh they don't do they have the logo?
- 18:03SPEAKER_02: They don't have the no, they have just the base of VIS logo.
- 18:06SPEAKER_02: So there's no Mahomes logo on it.
- 18:07SPEAKER_02: What do you think?
- 18:08SPEAKER_02: I like them.
- 18:09SPEAKER_02: I think they're cool.
- 18:10SPEAKER_02: Um, they obviously they integrated all sorts of different things on the on the shoulder.
- 18:14SPEAKER_02: They have like that 1920 uniform logo with the with the different bars going down it.
- 18:19SPEAKER_02: The helmet is immaculate.
- 18:21SPEAKER_06: It is.
- 18:23SPEAKER_02: You can't beat the helmet with the stars and the old double T, the red stripe down the middle.
- 18:28SPEAKER_02: I mean, it's no notes, no notes on the helmet.
- 18:31SPEAKER_06: And and it's not just the old double T, it's an even it's just it's a double T we never use.
- 18:35SPEAKER_06: Like it's it's it's not even the classic one that we see all the time, like it's even a more accident uh double T, old double T.
- 18:42SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 18:43SPEAKER_02: I'm I'm seeing they had like this gold patch put on the back of the uniform now.
- 18:47SPEAKER_02: The one thing that I'll call out here, because I am very critical when it comes to uniforms and judging all of this.
- 18:54SPEAKER_02: Um in the video and in the in the when they debuted it online on social media, sometimes on these videos they have real players that are kind of the model, and sometimes they actually have like a model, like they hire some guy to go you know flex in front of the camera for the for the social media video.
- 19:14SPEAKER_02: They had both in this.
- 19:16SPEAKER_02: I think Jacob Rodriguez was actually in the uniform and debuting it, and then they had a mop because it was number 25.
- 19:24SPEAKER_02: We have one number 25, and it's Chapman Lewis, and it's not a white guy, so it was a white guy in the video.
- 19:31SPEAKER_02: When he turned around, they showed the back of it, and it says where the name usually goes on a jersey, it says Red Raiders.
- 19:39SPEAKER_02: I'm really hoping that all the uniforms do not say Red Raiders, because I hate it when uniforms do that, and they put like either a slogan or the team, one of the team names on there instead of their last name.
- 19:52SPEAKER_02: I I just like either don't put the last name on there or put their last name on there.
- 19:57SPEAKER_02: Don't do some like weird gimmick or weird saying or slogan.
- 20:00SPEAKER_02: Like I I get a little peeved off with that.
- 20:03SPEAKER_02: I don't think that's what they're doing with this uniform, but I think it was just the model jersey that they were showing off.
- 20:10SPEAKER_06: Yeah, no way, no way that's that's what they're gonna do.
- 20:12SPEAKER_06: I don't think Tex Tech has uh really done that in a while.
- 20:16SPEAKER_06: I want to say the last time we may have pulled a stunt like that was um the uh the wounded warrior jerseys way back in the early 2000 tens, whatever it was like never quit or something on the back.
- 20:28SPEAKER_02: So the worst.
- 20:29SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I mean, I it was it was like a wounded warrior thing.
- 20:32SPEAKER_06: So uh, but I know that's uh it was that was that was the time when tech was just really tossing out some crazy unis.
- 20:40SPEAKER_06: Um, but no, dude, I I don't think there's any chance that it's gonna say Red Raiders on the back.
- 20:45SPEAKER_06: It's just not our thing.
- 20:46SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 20:47SPEAKER_02: I don't think so either.
- 20:48SPEAKER_02: I just noticed it in the in the video, and I was like, please don't let that be on every jersey.
- 20:53SPEAKER_02: I don't need that in my life.
- 20:55SPEAKER_02: But no, really cool uniforms.
- 20:56SPEAKER_02: Awesome that we're going to this game and getting the chance to see this live.
- 21:00SPEAKER_02: So um really excited, man.
- 21:02SPEAKER_06: Actually, I think it was a lone survivor thing, not a wounded warrior thing.
- 21:05SPEAKER_02: Maybe you're I think you're right.
- 21:07SPEAKER_02: Yeah, this was like like like last years of Tubberville, maybe first years of Canyon.
- 21:12SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it was before we got there.
- 21:13SPEAKER_02: Yeah, for sure.
- 21:14SPEAKER_02: All right, let's move on.
- 21:16SPEAKER_02: Superlatives.
- 21:17SPEAKER_02: This is superlatives.
- 21:19SPEAKER_02: We're talking superlatives.
- 21:20SPEAKER_02: We're gonna we're gonna do five Texas Tech superlatives, five Big 12 superlatives, and then we're gonna give our predictions for Texas Tech, for the Big 12 title game, and the Big 12 champion.
- 21:33SPEAKER_02: Um, and then we'll finish it off with the song of the week here.
- 21:36SPEAKER_02: So Tristan, you're gonna answer every one of them first.
- 21:39SPEAKER_02: We're going with Texas Tech to start off.
- 21:43SPEAKER_02: The first superlative the Patrick Mahomes Award for player you're most excited about going into this season.
- 21:54SPEAKER_06: Now look, I know I know these are probably some of the most prestigious awards these players can possibly aspire to win.
- 22:00SPEAKER_06: Um, but I would like to remind the crowd that these are preseason watch list for awards, okay?
- 22:04SPEAKER_06: Not necessarily not necessarily the true nomination at the end of the year, with in which we will uh have the ceremony that we'll send them invites for them to, and they'll totally show up uh to Steven's house.
- 22:19SPEAKER_06: So the Pat Mahomes award from uh uh uh watch list from McGonagall is gonna be Jacob Rodriguez.
- 22:28SPEAKER_06: How could it possibly be anybody else than who is possibly your best player on the team?
- 22:34SPEAKER_06: Okay, this guy he leads your defense in all stats last year.
- 22:40SPEAKER_06: And then you look at this year, the Big 12s got their eyes on him.
- 22:43SPEAKER_06: He's all defense Big 12 looking forward into the season here.
- 22:47SPEAKER_06: How could it not possibly be this man with this incredible back lore, backstory lore coming into the season?
- 22:55SPEAKER_06: Immaculate mustache, hero of the team, leader of the defense.
- 22:59SPEAKER_06: It's Jacob Rodriguez, the best Rodriguez.
- 23:03SPEAKER_02: That's fair.
- 23:04SPEAKER_02: That's very fair.
- 23:05SPEAKER_02: Uh I'm probably like 98th or 99th on that list.
- 23:09SPEAKER_02: Wow, dude.
- 23:09SPEAKER_07: All right, let's let's push that even.
- 23:11SPEAKER_07: We're being a little soft on ourselves, aren't we?
- 23:13SPEAKER_07: Double digits, please.
- 23:15SPEAKER_07: Please.
- 23:16SPEAKER_02: Um, I like that.
- 23:18SPEAKER_02: I like that pick.
- 23:19SPEAKER_02: That's a good pick.
- 23:20SPEAKER_02: Uh, he absolutely deserves the award.
- 23:22SPEAKER_02: He was on my he was on my uh list of nominees.
- 23:26SPEAKER_02: Watch list.
- 23:26SPEAKER_02: He was on my watch list.
- 23:28SPEAKER_02: It's not top of no my award for the player that I'm most excited about is a transfer.
- 23:38SPEAKER_02: He's on the defensive line.
- 23:41SPEAKER_02: His name is Romelo Height.
- 23:43SPEAKER_02: Oh, I was gonna say the fridge.
- 23:45SPEAKER_02: No, no, no, no.
- 23:46SPEAKER_02: He may come that he may come later.
- 23:48SPEAKER_02: Uh the player that I am most excited to watch is Romello Height.
- 23:54SPEAKER_02: I am blown away by how this guy looks.
- 23:59SPEAKER_02: He's yoked.
- 24:01SPEAKER_02: I like I don't know if we've seen a player that has the ideal body and shape to be a defensive edge rusher.
- 24:12SPEAKER_02: I I am I've watched so much of his Georgia Tech tape.
- 24:16SPEAKER_02: He was obviously really highly touted out of high school, went to USC, went to Georgia Tech, and is now here.
- 24:22SPEAKER_02: The coaching staff is hyping him up.
- 24:24SPEAKER_02: I watched that play.
- 24:26SPEAKER_02: Go go last year and watch the Georgia Tech Miami game.
- 24:29SPEAKER_02: He made the game-winning play that forced the future number one pick, Cam Ward, to fumble in the red zone on his side and basically seal the game for Georgia Tech.
- 24:40SPEAKER_02: Um, I think he's gonna have a massive year.
- 24:43SPEAKER_02: And he's being talked about pretty highly, but I don't think he's being talked about enough.
- 24:48SPEAKER_02: Romelo Haid, I am so hyped up to have edge rushing and to rush the quarterback and to see sacks and to see force fumbles.
- 24:58SPEAKER_02: I'm so ready.
- 24:59SPEAKER_02: Romelo Hayde is my winner.
- 25:01SPEAKER_06: Dang, two defensive players on a Texas Tech podcast picking their favorite Pat Mahomes player here for that award.
- 25:10SPEAKER_06: That's that's crazy stuff, man.
- 25:12SPEAKER_06: And I'm surprised you okay, so he went with an edge, but he didn't even go with the edge that I think is being piped up even more so.
- 25:19SPEAKER_06: So that's a lot.
- 25:22SPEAKER_02: I I think that's why I did it because David Bailey and deserves all the attention that he's getting.
- 25:28SPEAKER_02: I don't think Romelo Haidt is getting the attention that he deserves, and I think he's gonna be a real dude.
- 25:33SPEAKER_02: And this is not gonna be a Steve Linton situation, but more of a Tyree Wilson situation in terms of hyping up our edge rushers.
- 25:42SPEAKER_02: Um, so yeah, that's our that's that's my pick.
- 25:45SPEAKER_02: Your pick was Jacob Rodriguez, mine, Romelo Haidt.
- 25:47SPEAKER_02: Let's move on to the second superlative, which is the Dadrian Taylor Demerson Award for the biggest leap from last year.
- 25:58SPEAKER_02: So this has to be a returning player from that we saw at Texas Tech.
- 26:03SPEAKER_02: I I named this the Dadrian Taylor Demerson Award because when he first played at Texas Tech, I thought he was bad.
- 26:10SPEAKER_02: And he was bad, and then he went up a level and up a level, and then up a level even more.
- 26:17SPEAKER_02: All four years he improved every single year.
- 26:20SPEAKER_02: Um, and I'm really this is going to be the returning Texas Tech player that you think is going to take the biggest leap from last year.
- 26:29SPEAKER_02: Tristan, who's your winner?
- 26:31SPEAKER_06: Steven, these these trophies that we have set up for these awards are look as good as you can imagine.
- 26:35SPEAKER_06: Oh, they're great.
- 26:36SPEAKER_06: Look how beautiful they are, huh?
- 26:37SPEAKER_06: Up here on the shelf.
- 26:38SPEAKER_06: Fantastic.
- 26:39SPEAKER_06: Um, uh, so with the most improved player, I I don't know if I overdosed on copium and just injected it straight into my brain.
- 26:53SPEAKER_06: Because that's where you do drugs, is you you put the needle in your brain.
- 26:57SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 26:57SPEAKER_06: And for sure.
- 26:59SPEAKER_07: I'm I'm going with Jacoby Williams.
- 27:03SPEAKER_07: Okay.
- 27:04SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 27:05SPEAKER_06: So I'm like, let's get some energy in that running back room where it's sad, and let's have the speedster, Mr.
- 27:15SPEAKER_06: Jacoby Williams, getting out there and putting some boys on skates.
- 27:21SPEAKER_06: Okay.
- 27:22SPEAKER_06: That is where I am directing my happy, improved intention to.
- 27:28SPEAKER_02: I like it.
- 27:29SPEAKER_02: I like it.
- 27:30SPEAKER_02: Um, so you're thinking Jacoby Williams is going to break out now with the unfortunate injury to Quentin Joyner.
- 27:37SPEAKER_06: I think he's gonna I think he's gonna slide you down the field more consist consistently, more so than a more power guy in Dickey.
- 27:46SPEAKER_02: He had 15 carries for 123 yards and a touchdown against Arkansas in the bowl game.
- 27:51SPEAKER_02: Jacoby Williams.
- 27:53SPEAKER_02: Um I think I think that's a great pick because obviously now he's going to be in a much uh in a much bigger position and have a much bigger role going into the year.
- 28:04SPEAKER_02: Um, but yes, I think I think he is going to take a leap, obviously, going from uh his true freshman season to a true sophomore.
- 28:11SPEAKER_02: Um and is a very, very good option to lead your team in rushing um going into this year.
- 28:18SPEAKER_02: So that's a good pick.
- 28:19SPEAKER_02: Uh he was again a nominee for me, but not the one I'm choosing.
- 28:24SPEAKER_02: I'm staying with the defense for my biggest leap of uh of next year award.
- 28:32SPEAKER_02: Marion Horn, cornerback Texas Tech.
- 28:37SPEAKER_02: Um Mo Horn had a tough year last year.
- 28:41SPEAKER_02: All of the secondary had a tough year last year.
- 28:44SPEAKER_02: The defense had a tough year last year.
- 28:46SPEAKER_02: It was not good, it was tough to watch at times, and yet Mo Horn showed some signs on some plays last year where he looked really, really good.
- 28:57SPEAKER_02: And he's going into his second full year starting at the cornerback position.
- 29:02SPEAKER_02: The fact that we brought in Dante Balfour and Bryce Pollack, and Mo Horn is still kind of leading both of them as the number one corner option for this year, tells me something that he's going to take that next step and that he is really taking it seriously.
- 29:18SPEAKER_02: And the fact that we kept him from such a poor defense last year and didn't push him out, I think shows the trust that the staff has in him.
- 29:28SPEAKER_02: Uh, and under new secondary coaching, I think that he will take a leap and be your number one corner and best corner next year.
- 29:38SPEAKER_06: I had a good feeling you're gonna pick him.
- 29:40SPEAKER_06: And yeah, I I think I think it's quite natural for Texas Tech fans to wish improvement upon the secondary deep in the defenses throughout the years.
- 29:52SPEAKER_06: So I think that's a good pick.
- 29:54SPEAKER_06: I think it's a hopeful pick.
- 29:55SPEAKER_06: I think we're both there with just some true hopium and copium, just holding on tight and hoping those two units really step up.
- 30:05SPEAKER_06: So that's I think those are both good picks for most improved player.
- 30:09SPEAKER_06: We'll see.
- 30:09SPEAKER_06: We'll we'll have to definitely come back to this at the end of the season and give the trophies out and see where we landed.
- 30:15SPEAKER_02: For sure.
- 30:15SPEAKER_02: For sure.
- 30:16SPEAKER_02: We'll have them printed by then.
- 30:17SPEAKER_02: Yeah, three knee printed.
- 30:19SPEAKER_02: We got it, we got them working.
- 30:20SPEAKER_03: We we got those.
- 30:22SPEAKER_02: Next award, the JT Toppin award for transfer of the year.
- 30:28SPEAKER_02: Texas Tech has themselves a loaded transfer class.
- 30:32SPEAKER_02: I know you're tired of hearing that.
- 30:34SPEAKER_02: JT Toppin, I think, is the best example.
- 30:37SPEAKER_06: Famous football player.
- 30:38SPEAKER_02: Famous football player, JT Toppin.
- 30:41SPEAKER_02: Uh JT Toppin transferred into Texas Tech basketball, one Big 12 player of the year.
- 30:46SPEAKER_02: That's just about the best transfer you can ask for.
- 30:49SPEAKER_02: That's why this award is named after him.
- 30:51SPEAKER_02: Tristan, who is your JT Toppin award winner for transfer of the year?
- 30:56SPEAKER_06: It's all about balance, Steven.
- 30:59SPEAKER_06: I picked a linebacker, I picked a running back going back to the defense.
- 31:04SPEAKER_06: And Steven, you know what I'm doing?
- 31:07SPEAKER_06: I'm buying the hype.
- 31:08SPEAKER_06: It's David Bailey.
- 31:10SPEAKER_06: All right.
- 31:12SPEAKER_06: That guy is going to annihilate some O-lines and scare some QBs this season, buddy.
- 31:18SPEAKER_06: I am going to believe what the talking heads are saying about the transit portal, and I'm just going to drink that Kool-Aid.
- 31:25SPEAKER_06: And RD line is just going to be scary.
- 31:30SPEAKER_02: Very, very excited for David Bailey and the entire defensive line.
- 31:36SPEAKER_02: I like, yes, everything I said about Romello Height is David Bailey, except he's gotten a little more attention going into the year.
- 31:43SPEAKER_06: I mean, you that's the intent, that's the intention you garnered.
- 31:47SPEAKER_06: Would you come from football power of the Atlantic Athletic Conference in California, Stanford University?
- 31:56SPEAKER_02: All right.
- 31:57SPEAKER_02: The Atlantic Coast of Stanford, California.
- 32:03SPEAKER_02: Or Palo Alto, I guess.
- 32:05SPEAKER_07: Um Stanford, California.
- 32:08SPEAKER_02: Stanford, California.
- 32:09SPEAKER_02: Uh, no, very, very excited for David Bailey.
- 32:12SPEAKER_02: Now, think about this.
- 32:14SPEAKER_02: We mentioned Rebello Hyde, we mentioned David Bailey, you've already mentioned Lee Hunter.
- 32:21SPEAKER_02: And they're all on the defensive line.
- 32:22SPEAKER_02: We're gonna be awesome on the defensive line.
- 32:25SPEAKER_02: Okay, I'm I'm full in, I'm full send into the defensive line, and that's what we've uh we've pretty much established on this pod.
- 32:33SPEAKER_02: My winner for the JT Toppin Award for Transfer of the Year is a guy that is not being talked about as much as he should.
- 32:44SPEAKER_02: Now he was hurt all last year.
- 32:47SPEAKER_02: It was uh, you know, I can understand why he's not necessarily getting the same attention that some of these other guys in this portal class are getting.
- 32:56SPEAKER_02: But it's for a position group that we desperately need some improvement on.
- 33:01SPEAKER_02: My winner, North Dakota State transfer Nicole Wisneski.
- 33:08SPEAKER_00: What?
- 33:08SPEAKER_02: What eight interceptions in 2023 for North Dakota State?
- 33:15SPEAKER_02: He's six foot five, he's a safety, and he's been in college football.
- 33:21SPEAKER_02: This will be his sixth year.
- 33:24SPEAKER_02: I think he's going to be incredible at Texas Tech.
- 33:30SPEAKER_02: And I don't understand why he is not getting talked about more.
- 33:35SPEAKER_02: I'm I'm very, very excited for what he can do at that safety position.
- 33:40SPEAKER_06: I mean, first of all, incredible name.
- 33:43SPEAKER_06: Incredible name.
- 33:44SPEAKER_06: Yep.
- 33:45SPEAKER_06: Plain and simple.
- 33:47SPEAKER_06: Second, incredible pick, dude.
- 33:49SPEAKER_06: I I didn't see that coming.
- 33:51SPEAKER_06: I I out of all the players, I I probably he probably would have been like back half of what I thought you were gonna say.
- 33:56SPEAKER_06: And I knew I knew I was gonna get you.
- 33:58SPEAKER_06: A fabulous pick, my friend.
- 34:00SPEAKER_06: And I I you that is three stinking picks in a row on defense, brother.
- 34:05SPEAKER_02: I'm buying, I'm buying in.
- 34:08SPEAKER_06: You're you're all on that Shield Wood.
- 34:10SPEAKER_02: I'm all in, and that may come up in old in a future award uh coming up here.
- 34:15SPEAKER_02: Let's move on to the next award of the night.
- 34:20SPEAKER_02: The Tony Bradford Award for fan favorite.
- 34:24SPEAKER_02: Tony Bradford is a fan favorite, he's a Levick police officer.
- 34:30SPEAKER_07: So sick, dude.
- 34:31SPEAKER_02: I mean, he's the best.
- 34:33SPEAKER_02: Nobody in the world can hate Tony Bradford.
- 34:36SPEAKER_06: He is the he is the I thought he was a state trooper, not a Levick police officer.
- 34:41SPEAKER_06: I think he's like a state trooper.
- 34:42SPEAKER_02: No, I think he's in the Levic PD.
- 34:45SPEAKER_07: Either or.
- 34:46SPEAKER_07: Either or.
- 34:47SPEAKER_07: Whatever he's both top.
- 34:50SPEAKER_02: Both great.
- 34:52SPEAKER_02: Um we love Tony Bradford, and that's why he's uh he's the name of the fake award that we're giving out for fan favorite.
- 34:58SPEAKER_02: Tristan, who's your fan favorite?
- 35:01SPEAKER_06: All right, I told you it's all about balance.
- 35:03SPEAKER_06: And unlike you, I'm not glued to one side of the ball.
- 35:06SPEAKER_06: I see the whole picture.
- 35:07SPEAKER_06: I'm not narrow-minded like one of our co-hosts here.
- 35:09SPEAKER_06: I on this one, I'm going to the wide receiver room.
- 35:15SPEAKER_06: A favorite zone for Texas Tech players, uh, players for Texas Tech fans.
- 35:20SPEAKER_06: I consider myself a player with how much I care.
- 35:23SPEAKER_06: Well, you're in the running back room now, so dude, with my back, I would be dead.
- 35:29SPEAKER_06: Okay.
- 35:29SPEAKER_06: I would I would I would have my spine literally coming out of my back.
- 35:34SPEAKER_06: All right.
- 35:34SPEAKER_06: So, anyway, um, it is Koy Aiken.
- 35:39SPEAKER_06: How is it not Koy Aiken, dude?
- 35:41SPEAKER_06: Like, it's I think everyone gets a little extra excited when he catches the football.
- 35:47SPEAKER_06: And he's got so much going for him, right?
- 35:49SPEAKER_06: He's Baron's best friend, he's super involved in the community, and he has a billion nicknames that no one can decide which one is the right one.
- 35:58SPEAKER_06: Is it is it cowboy coy?
- 36:01SPEAKER_07: Is it my favorite coi boy?
- 36:03SPEAKER_07: I like Koi boy.
- 36:05SPEAKER_02: No, I know you like Coi Boy.
- 36:09SPEAKER_02: I think the majority are in on cowboy koi, and I know it's just you holding down koi boy.
- 36:14SPEAKER_07: Yeah, I might I might be like you know, putting your votes for the for the nicknames that is the one like hundreds of votes for cowboy coy is the one 97 to three.
- 36:25SPEAKER_07: I am just koi boy three times on three different accounts.
- 36:29SPEAKER_07: So I think it's a good nickname.
- 36:31SPEAKER_07: I like Koi Boy.
- 36:32SPEAKER_07: Anyway, so it's Koy Aiken, dude.
- 36:36SPEAKER_07: It's absolutely koyakin.
- 36:38SPEAKER_02: Uh he did get the number three jersey this year.
- 36:42SPEAKER_02: Big deal for uh for a Joey Maguire team to have the number three.
- 36:47SPEAKER_02: He has red hair.
- 36:48SPEAKER_02: I think that helps him in this.
- 36:49SPEAKER_02: It does, it does.
- 36:50SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 36:51SPEAKER_02: Uh because he stands out.
- 36:54SPEAKER_02: You take he takes off the helmet, you're like, what?
- 36:56SPEAKER_02: Who is this?
- 36:58SPEAKER_02: What's going on?
- 36:59SPEAKER_02: And he's really good and he's gonna have a big year.
- 37:01SPEAKER_02: And he'll be probably your wide receiver one or two here going into this year.
- 37:05SPEAKER_02: So that's a great pick.
- 37:06SPEAKER_02: Um, he was on the list, obviously.
- 37:09SPEAKER_02: Uh, you can't have a have a fan favorite award and not include not Cloy, not include Cloy Aiken.
- 37:16SPEAKER_07: Not Cloy, Koi Boy.
- 37:17SPEAKER_02: Not a Cloy.
- 37:18SPEAKER_02: You got the Koi boy in my head.
- 37:20SPEAKER_02: Uh my Tony Bradford award for fan favorite goes to the fridge.
- 37:29SPEAKER_02: I'm staying on the defense.
- 37:30SPEAKER_02: Lee Hunter, baby.
- 37:32SPEAKER_02: He rules everything about him.
- 37:35SPEAKER_02: His mic'd up was the best mic'ed up by far.
- 37:38SPEAKER_02: Um, I love him already.
- 37:39SPEAKER_02: I don't care.
- 37:40SPEAKER_02: He's 6'5, he's massive.
- 37:42SPEAKER_02: He's going to be uh not only a great player, but he's a great personality, and he's just one of those lovable looking dudes that you're just like excited is on your team.
- 37:50SPEAKER_02: I think he is going to absolutely be eaten up by the tech fan base this year.
- 37:54SPEAKER_02: And if tech's defensive line is what we think it is, we're all gonna love the defensive line.
- 37:59SPEAKER_02: So Bigley Hunter is my Tony Bradford award winner for fan favorite.
- 38:04SPEAKER_06: And that's kind of a double dip because that's you know, that's a little that's borrowing a bit from fave transfer as well, because you know he's kind of in that that mix.
- 38:12SPEAKER_06: And I knew you're gonna pick the fridge.
- 38:14SPEAKER_06: I knew it.
- 38:15SPEAKER_06: I know when we open this pod, but you're like, there's I think we have two people in mind of who it actually is.
- 38:20SPEAKER_06: And that was like it's koy boy or the fridge.
- 38:22SPEAKER_02: I had a close third, and it's John Curry because he is a Lubbock local, and he's it seems like he's gonna have a breakout year.
- 38:29SPEAKER_02: He could have been you know on the on the biggest leap award um as well.
- 38:34SPEAKER_02: And I think with him being moved to star uh from inside linebacker, I think they're really looking to get him on the field.
- 38:40SPEAKER_02: And obviously, Texas Tech people eat up a Lubbock native.
- 38:43SPEAKER_02: So yeah, uh, I think he was he was an option, but no, I I think from the minute that we got Lee Hunter, I was all in.
- 38:51SPEAKER_02: I'm I'm like, I love the look of this guy, I love how he talks, I love everything about him.
- 38:57SPEAKER_02: I'm all in.
- 38:58SPEAKER_06: The the nickname the fridge is bad.
- 39:00SPEAKER_06: That's that's amazing, dude.
- 39:04SPEAKER_06: That's perfect.
- 39:05SPEAKER_02: It's a little better than Toy Boy.
- 39:07SPEAKER_06: I don't agree, but I uh what I I I see the horizons.
- 39:11SPEAKER_06: You just stay glued to one part of the field, okay?
- 39:15SPEAKER_06: I I I I analyze.
- 39:18SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I I I study statistics and plug numbers.
- 39:25SPEAKER_02: I think if anything, this goes to show which side of the ball I am most interested in going into this season.
- 39:31SPEAKER_06: The one the one with laces or without laces, the one without laces.
- 39:35SPEAKER_02: Uh, I'm I'm looking to see some some people get hit by our guys.
- 39:39SPEAKER_02: And I honestly, I'm looking forward to some 17 to 14 ball games.
- 39:45SPEAKER_02: No, yes, I want to see I want to see some slug fests, I want to see us destroy.
- 39:53SPEAKER_02: Obviously, I want us to win by more than 17 to 3 or whatever.
- 39:59SPEAKER_02: I want us to score a million points, but I am looking forward to us holding teams to three points, to 10 points, to 14 points.
- 40:09SPEAKER_02: I I'm ready.
- 40:11SPEAKER_02: I'm ready.
- 40:11SPEAKER_02: Texas Tech is known for their defense.
- 40:14SPEAKER_06: All right.
- 40:14SPEAKER_06: So you want you want every game to be that Iowa State game last year?
- 40:20SPEAKER_02: No, that's not what I'm saying.
- 40:21SPEAKER_02: I'm saying that I think we have an opportunity now to win those types of games more often than we have in the past and not just have to outscore uh because I've seen that my entire Texas Tech career.
- 40:34SPEAKER_06: Yes, I mean we can we put up points.
- 40:38SPEAKER_06: We we got we got kitchen appliances on the D-line now.
- 40:40SPEAKER_06: So there's there's no stopping us, dog.
- 40:43SPEAKER_02: I'm ready.
- 40:44SPEAKER_02: I want to see some sacks this year, dude.
- 40:47SPEAKER_02: Um all right, final Texas Tech superlative, and then we'll get into more some Big 12 stuff.
- 40:55SPEAKER_02: The Keith Patterson Award for favorite coordinator.
- 40:58SPEAKER_02: Now I had a uh a little bit of a tough time naming this award because I was trying to think of like an individual coordinator that was an overwhelming everybody loved him, and from you know, previous years Kingsbury was the offensive coordinator when he was here, but he was also the head coach, and so you can't really say you know Kingsbury.
- 41:21SPEAKER_02: Um and then everybody since has just been at least a disaster one of this one of the years.
- 41:27SPEAKER_02: I could have I could have done the Sonny Cumby Award.
- 41:30SPEAKER_02: Uh because I think at the tail end, Sonny Cumby was like, and he obviously, you know, legend at Texas Tech.
- 41:37SPEAKER_02: But I think Keith Patterson was universally liked at Texas Tech throughout his entire tenure.
- 41:46SPEAKER_02: I don't think there was a moment where people were so down and calling for there's always those, you know, randos that are calling for people to get fired one game into the year and everything, but I think Keith Patterson left a good mark here at Texas Tech during his time in a time that was not phenomenal.
- 42:03SPEAKER_02: So that's why I named it after him.
- 42:06SPEAKER_02: I think he deserves a little bit of it.
- 42:07SPEAKER_02: This is the Keith Patterson Award for Favorite Coordinator because Texas Tech has two new ones this year.
- 42:13SPEAKER_06: I didn't I I don't like Keith Patterson very much last season, if I'm gonna be honest with you, dude.
- 42:17SPEAKER_02: I did.
- 42:18SPEAKER_02: I thought he was the only I thought he was the only bright spot of that last year.
- 42:23SPEAKER_06: The ASU game?
- 42:25SPEAKER_06: ACU game?
- 42:26SPEAKER_02: The ACU game?
- 42:28SPEAKER_02: What are you talking about?
- 42:29SPEAKER_06: He was he not the head coach of the Apple and Christian game?
- 42:32SPEAKER_02: Oh, he was, yeah, but not when he was here.
- 42:35SPEAKER_06: No, I mean like last season.
- 42:37SPEAKER_02: Oh, yeah, no, whatever.
- 42:39SPEAKER_02: I was referring to that brutal game.
- 42:40SPEAKER_02: That was that was Tim DeRuer's fault.
- 42:42SPEAKER_02: That wasn't that wasn't Keith Keith Patterson.
- 42:45SPEAKER_02: He's a dude, okay?
- 42:46SPEAKER_07: He's he's a guy.
- 42:48SPEAKER_02: He's he's cool and love it.
- 42:50SPEAKER_06: Right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right.
- 42:52SPEAKER_06: My pick.
- 42:55SPEAKER_06: This one's really hard because there's two guys.
- 42:58SPEAKER_02: You have two whole choice witches.
- 43:01SPEAKER_06: Um, and I know the easy answer is to go one way, but I'm going to skirt and get instead of skeet.
- 43:12SPEAKER_06: Okay.
- 43:16SPEAKER_06: I'm gonna go with Mac Leftwich.
- 43:21SPEAKER_06: Okay?
- 43:22SPEAKER_06: I'm gonna go with the offensive coordinator, all right?
- 43:24SPEAKER_06: I think he's gonna make a lot of people very happy.
- 43:26SPEAKER_06: And I think I think what he's gonna do, I think he's going to be very creative with the ball game, be very creative with the weapons he has.
- 43:34SPEAKER_06: And he I think that my main sticking point here is I think he's gonna unleash Baron Morton onto the world and give us what we've been craving from that quarterback and just give us a West Texas gunslinger and I just want to see some dang points.
- 43:49SPEAKER_06: I know Kitley threw him up too, but I want to see that ballkeeper on it with that really good defense.
- 43:53SPEAKER_06: I don't want there to be any slowing down.
- 43:55SPEAKER_06: I want it to be an even attack from both sides, but I just want to see some fire.
- 44:04SPEAKER_02: Still trying to process your skirt versus ski.
- 44:16SPEAKER_02: No, not as not a soul has ever said that.
- 44:19SPEAKER_07: Um people say that and then they say koi boy.
- 44:22SPEAKER_02: No.
- 44:24SPEAKER_02: Um surprise, surprise.
- 44:28SPEAKER_02: I'm staying with the defense.
- 44:30SPEAKER_02: I know.
- 44:31SPEAKER_02: This one was actually really difficult for me because I I No, it wasn't.
- 44:35SPEAKER_02: It was.
- 44:36SPEAKER_02: It was difficult.
- 44:36SPEAKER_07: You are lying to the camera that people are gonna see.
- 44:39SPEAKER_02: It was difficult for me because I think like I feel like I wake up every other day and I'm like, oh, Mac could be awesome.
- 44:46SPEAKER_02: Oh, Shield's gonna rule.
- 44:47SPEAKER_02: Oh wait, maybe Mac's not gonna be awesome.
- 44:49SPEAKER_02: Oh wait, maybe Shield's not gonna I need football in my life really bad before I drive myself even more crazy.
- 44:56SPEAKER_02: I am going with Shield Wood because of what he did at his previous stops.
- 45:01SPEAKER_02: Um, I keep going back to Houston's first year, the Big 12, and he brought them from uh hundredth best defense to top 30 defense in the entire country.
- 45:11SPEAKER_02: Um, he's obviously got the weapons to really be successful here in year one.
- 45:17SPEAKER_02: And I just don't trust, I trust the defense more than I trust the offense, and that's why I think ultimately is going to lead to this coordinator being the better of the two.
- 45:29SPEAKER_02: And that's not a dig at Mac.
- 45:31SPEAKER_02: I think he's gonna do a great job over here.
- 45:34SPEAKER_02: I just don't necessarily think he has the pieces right now to have an overwhelming, you know, tech.
- 45:41SPEAKER_02: And Texas Tech fans are so used to great offense, so it's a lot to live up to that expectation while defensive coordinators for the most part are liked here because it's not just the worst thing you've ever seen on the field, like in the Kingsbury years.
- 45:57SPEAKER_02: So I think I think Texas Tech fans are gonna really like Shield Wood.
- 46:01SPEAKER_02: I love his demeanor.
- 46:03SPEAKER_02: He's got like the this militaristic like way of going at things, and he just seems like I a locked as locked in as you could possibly be.
- 46:13SPEAKER_02: So I'm all in on Shield Wood.
- 46:15SPEAKER_02: I am in on Mac Leftwich as well, but um not quite as much as Shield Wood.
- 46:20SPEAKER_06: Well, well, we gotta email the guys and say that they're battling for this award, so they really gotta step up their game and we'll see who wins that and puts it up in their office.
- 46:28SPEAKER_02: They deeply care about what we have to say.
- 46:31SPEAKER_02: Um, all right, let's move on to some Big 12 superlatives.
- 46:36SPEAKER_02: This is talking about the entire league as a whole.
- 46:38SPEAKER_02: Yes, we watch other teams.
- 46:40SPEAKER_02: We don't just watch Texas Tech.
- 46:41SPEAKER_02: We we like to watch other Big 12 games.
- 46:44SPEAKER_02: I think for me, it's my go-to whenever a tech game's not on, is hey, when the 12th team is playing.
- 46:49SPEAKER_02: 1,000%.
- 46:51SPEAKER_02: This first award, a lot of Texas Tech fans are gonna like the name of it.
- 46:56SPEAKER_02: This is the 2013 to 2022 Texas Longhorn Award for most overrated team.
- 47:03SPEAKER_02: People forget, yes, I understand Texas's preseason rank number one.
- 47:07SPEAKER_02: Yes, I understand they made the playoff last year.
- 47:09SPEAKER_02: Yes, I understand that they have a uh good history of Mac Brown, but for people tend seem to forget that for nine years, Texas was absolutely the most disappointing college football team in the entire nation.
- 47:23SPEAKER_02: They went through three different head coaches from the last year of Mac Brown to the first year of Sark.
- 47:30SPEAKER_02: That team disappointed every single year, and because they're Texas, people have seemed to just forget about that.
- 47:35SPEAKER_02: And oh, Arch Manning, oh, number one preseason team.
- 47:38SPEAKER_02: I'm sick of it.
- 47:39SPEAKER_02: They were overrated for nine straight years, and I just want to keep that in the ether.
- 47:43SPEAKER_02: So, Tristan, for you, what is the most overrated Big 12 team going into this year?
- 47:49SPEAKER_06: I the good news is tech really took it to them in those years, too.
- 47:53SPEAKER_06: So that's that's why I like to say for those times.
- 47:56SPEAKER_03: Anyway.
- 47:59SPEAKER_06: Anyway.
- 48:00SPEAKER_06: Um, all right.
- 48:02SPEAKER_06: I think I'm probably gonna do a crowd pleaser with this one.
- 48:06SPEAKER_06: I I think uh I think the most overrated team, even though I'm not even though they're not getting it like Google's amounts of love, I'm gonna go with the Utah Utes.
- 48:18SPEAKER_06: Yeah, dude.
- 48:19SPEAKER_06: I think the Utah Utes got a lot of gas, got a lot high of their own supply over there in the Rocky Mountains, there.
- 48:27SPEAKER_06: Completely sober stuff.
- 48:29SPEAKER_06: I'm not talking any drugs or anything like that.
- 48:32SPEAKER_06: But these guys, they they they're they seem like they're they they're they're really due for an incredible season that they're going to turn around and have the season they were supposed to have last year, this year.
- 48:44SPEAKER_06: And dude, I don't see it happening.
- 48:46SPEAKER_06: I do not envision that coming true.
- 48:50SPEAKER_06: And it would bring me nothing but joy to see at least the vocal ones on the Twitter be just utterly egg-faced once more of being the most hilarious team in the Big 12 and just refusing to win any football games.
- 49:06SPEAKER_06: So I am gonna go with Utah Utes.
- 49:09SPEAKER_06: I think just because I think they there's a lot of thoughts, even with the talking heads, they really think they're due.
- 49:14SPEAKER_06: A lot of I think it is is just seeing that they're not a logo team, but seeing that logo that has meant consistency for a really long time.
- 49:20SPEAKER_06: It's the same thing as with OSU, I think.
- 49:22SPEAKER_06: Maybe uh maybe a little more so.
- 49:24SPEAKER_06: So I think that's just they're kind of going from that bias, and I just want to see that shut down again.
- 49:29SPEAKER_06: And I just I don't know if there's enough there.
- 49:32SPEAKER_06: Um, what they think this New Mexico quarterback is gonna turn things around.
- 49:36SPEAKER_06: I mean, is he the kid could be a baller, but I mean, is that really gonna make the whole team?
- 49:40SPEAKER_06: I don't see it.
- 49:42SPEAKER_06: I do not see it.
- 49:43SPEAKER_06: I'm going, I'm I'm making a lot of a lot of friends of Provo happy here as well.
- 49:47SPEAKER_02: I think that's a good pick.
- 49:49SPEAKER_02: Um, Utah definitely is getting a good amount of love.
- 49:52SPEAKER_02: I don't think they're you know, a lot of people are putting them in in the upper tier of Big 12 teams, uh, if not tier two.
- 49:59SPEAKER_02: I don't think anybody really has Utah kind of finishing, you know, middle to bottom of the pack.
- 50:04SPEAKER_02: So yeah, I think that's a good pick.
- 50:06SPEAKER_02: Um Devin Dampier went five and seven at New Mexico last year.
- 50:12SPEAKER_02: I just want to point that out for the people.
- 50:15SPEAKER_02: I don't know much about Devin Dampier, I'm not gonna lie to you.
- 50:18SPEAKER_02: I didn't watch New Mexico last year because they were five and seven.
- 50:22SPEAKER_06: Um you're an avid Mount Mountain West guy, too.
- 50:25SPEAKER_06: I have it.
- 50:27SPEAKER_02: Um they did beat Washington State, uh, a team that we did not beat last year.
- 50:34SPEAKER_02: So jokes on me.
- 50:37SPEAKER_02: We very much did not beat them.
- 50:39SPEAKER_02: We didn't.
- 50:40SPEAKER_02: Um I I I I tend to agree.
- 50:44SPEAKER_02: Like, I I think people are um people are obviously afraid to doubt Kyle Whittingham, and I that reputation is earned because Utah has had a a terrific program throughout the last several years.
- 50:56SPEAKER_02: But yeah, I think I think the the hype is undeserved going into this season for Utah.
- 51:03SPEAKER_02: I I would not I I wouldn't be surprised if they finished, you know, maybe four, but I think it's more likely that they finish, you know, maybe six or seventh in the league this year versus uh potentially winning goal thing.
- 51:16SPEAKER_02: So I think it's a good pick.
- 51:18SPEAKER_02: Um my overrated team going into the Big 12 season.
- 51:25SPEAKER_02: I was between two, and one was not Utah.
- 51:31SPEAKER_02: Kansas State.
- 51:33SPEAKER_02: Wow.
- 51:35SPEAKER_02: Kansas State is my most overrated team going into this year.
- 51:40SPEAKER_02: Do I you know I don't think they're gonna win the Big 12?
- 51:45SPEAKER_02: They seem to be the favorite.
- 51:47SPEAKER_02: And some some sites are saying Texas Tech's the favorite, some are saying Kansas.
- 51:51SPEAKER_02: A lot of sites are saying Texas or Kansas State is the favorite to win the Big 12.
- 51:55SPEAKER_06: More so than us, I think, generally speaking.
- 51:58SPEAKER_02: Avery Johnson?
- 52:00SPEAKER_02: I I don't know if I'm all in.
- 52:02SPEAKER_02: Like everybody seems to be.
- 52:05SPEAKER_02: He didn't have a great year last year.
- 52:08SPEAKER_02: And yes, he wasn't sophomore.
- 52:10SPEAKER_02: I understand that guys improved.
- 52:14SPEAKER_02: Kansas State, what did they finish last year?
- 52:17SPEAKER_02: They won like seven games.
- 52:20SPEAKER_06: They lost A of H I don't see it.
- 52:24SPEAKER_02: I don't see it.
- 52:25SPEAKER_02: I I don't think they have the offensive line that Kansas State is used to having.
- 52:29SPEAKER_02: Ever since they lost Cooper V and those guys, I don't think they've been that terrific.
- 52:35SPEAKER_02: Nobody really stands out to me.
- 52:37SPEAKER_02: And sometimes that doesn't make a difference with Kansas State because they get a bunch of underrated players, and uh, you know, the the coaching staff there just develops them very well.
- 52:47SPEAKER_02: It's not like I don't believe in Chris Kleiman.
- 52:49SPEAKER_02: I don't believe in the talent on this team this year, and I think Kansas State's getting more love than what they deserve.
- 52:59SPEAKER_06: I think it's uh a bit of like an earned reputation with them.
- 53:02SPEAKER_06: I think everyone just expects such a high level of consistency, like maybe even more so than uh Utah and OSU after their super diminishing seasons last season.
- 53:12SPEAKER_06: Um, and I I I get that.
- 53:15SPEAKER_06: And a good K-State is pretty scary just because like they just have that work ethic, that you know, blue-collar, hard-nosed uh identity that they maintained post-Snyder.
- 53:25SPEAKER_06: Like it still feels like a Snyder team.
- 53:28SPEAKER_06: So it still feels like we're supposed to we're playing Bill over there.
- 53:31SPEAKER_06: Um, I think that's a good pick, though, dude.
- 53:33SPEAKER_06: Um, I I I I agree with you, like uh the Avery Johnson thing, and I think this is always the biggest criticism of the team, too.
- 53:41SPEAKER_06: That's like K-State fans love the guy, but every warrior on the outside, people have a lot of question marks because everyone like you there's they're they're they're like with you.
- 53:49SPEAKER_06: They're like, what do you see?
- 53:51SPEAKER_06: What are we missing?
- 53:52SPEAKER_06: And obviously, like you just said, he could approve.
- 53:55SPEAKER_06: And a lot of a lot of it was uh, you know, they gave a lot of love to how he can move it on the legs, very much a dual threat guy.
- 54:01SPEAKER_06: Um, but dude, I I think I'm with you.
- 54:04SPEAKER_06: I mean, whatever you're picked to by what seems like most sites to win the Big 12.
- 54:10SPEAKER_06: I I I just I'm with you.
- 54:12SPEAKER_06: And it seems like you have the same sort of leadership at the front.
- 54:15SPEAKER_06: I don't know how you're gonna get it done.
- 54:16SPEAKER_06: I don't know.
- 54:17SPEAKER_06: Imagine, I think they'll be good though.
- 54:20SPEAKER_02: Imagine either team if you lose in Dublin.
- 54:25SPEAKER_02: If you lose that week zero game coming up on Saturday, if you're Kansas State or Iowa State, you're gonna be pretty down bad if you lose that one.
- 54:34SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 54:35SPEAKER_02: Because you're already 0-1 in Big 12 play before any other team is gonna play a game for three weeks in the conference.
- 54:43SPEAKER_02: I if they drop that one, I don't know.
- 54:46SPEAKER_02: It could be downhill pretty quickly for them.
- 54:49SPEAKER_02: So that's that's my vote.
- 54:51SPEAKER_06: And we uh we we we play K-State this year, not Iowa State.
- 54:56SPEAKER_06: So, I mean, obviously, I'd rather I'd rather that outcome just for an easier uh path down the road.
- 55:01SPEAKER_02: Also, Matt Wells is their offensive coordinator.
- 55:04SPEAKER_02: Yeah, just want to point that out to everybody.
- 55:07SPEAKER_02: Um tremendous.
- 55:09SPEAKER_02: Did Arizona State cross your mind?
- 55:11SPEAKER_06: Steven, I know before we move on, though.
- 55:14SPEAKER_06: Can K-State please kick a field goal in second down or in Manhattan?
- 55:18SPEAKER_02: I hope.
- 55:19SPEAKER_06: Just like for the old times, just like just kind of like an ode.
- 55:22SPEAKER_06: Just do it for Texans.
- 55:25SPEAKER_02: Can they also can they also lose to Kansas or a Kansas equivalent level team?
- 55:30SPEAKER_02: Dude, like can they do that?
- 55:35SPEAKER_02: Do they play so bad?
- 55:37SPEAKER_02: Do they play their non-coverage?
- 55:38SPEAKER_02: They play, can they lose to North Dakota?
- 55:42SPEAKER_02: Oh that would be funny.
- 55:45SPEAKER_06: That would be pretty funny.
- 55:46SPEAKER_02: That'd be pretty funny.
- 55:47SPEAKER_07: I mean, it'd be a bad look for the Big 12.
- 55:49SPEAKER_07: It would be, it would be.
- 55:50SPEAKER_02: Uh, I just don't wish any any success for Matt Wells going forward.
- 55:55SPEAKER_02: Um, did Arizona State cross your mind for this?
- 55:58SPEAKER_06: Uh we're overrated?
- 56:00SPEAKER_06: No.
- 56:00SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 56:01SPEAKER_02: You think they're you think they're they deserve to be at the top of the list?
- 56:04SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 56:05SPEAKER_06: I mean, uh, they're the the team looks pretty dang similar from last year.
- 56:09SPEAKER_06: And I I you got the same coach and the same looks like the same culture being built even stronger.
- 56:14SPEAKER_06: I mean, I I I'm not saying they're winning at all, but I I think I think they deserve the love.
- 56:18SPEAKER_02: They crossed my mind.
- 56:19SPEAKER_02: I don't I I think I think they're they deserve the hype and they deserve to be rated as highly as they are, and I think they are going to be a good team.
- 56:27SPEAKER_02: So ultimately, I think I decided between those two, and Kansas State, I think, is more likely to disappoint than Arizona State this year.
- 56:36SPEAKER_02: Um okay.
- 56:38SPEAKER_02: Let's move down.
- 56:40SPEAKER_02: Speaking of Arizona State, the Sun Devil Award for the most underrated team.
- 56:46SPEAKER_02: The tail is old as time, Arizona State.
- 56:49SPEAKER_03: Old time.
- 56:50SPEAKER_02: Pick six team in the Big 12 conference going into last year.
- 56:55SPEAKER_02: They won the Big 12 conference last year.
- 56:58SPEAKER_02: That's about as underrated as you can get.
- 57:01SPEAKER_02: So for you, Tristan McGonagall, who's your most underrated Big 12 team going into this year?
- 57:07SPEAKER_06: I was looking at this in two ways.
- 57:09SPEAKER_06: Like I was looking at this as which good team is underrated, you know, that's gonna kind of pop up, and what bad team is underrated that's gonna be decent, you know, be solid.
- 57:22SPEAKER_06: So I kind of had two answers, but I'll I'll go with the one that makes more sense.
- 57:31SPEAKER_06: Um, I'm gonna I'm gonna just throw some bait towards the bear den.
- 57:38SPEAKER_06: And I think Baylor is gonna have a solid year in Waco.
- 57:41SPEAKER_06: I think they got something humming there that's just gonna be a good solid season that might even, if things break right, end up in Arlington.
- 57:51SPEAKER_06: So I think I think I think Baylor of the Texas teams that aren't named tech are gonna be good.
- 57:57SPEAKER_06: I think I think I think the Baylor Bears are gonna have a good year.
- 58:01SPEAKER_02: I thought before I started listening to all the uh Big 12 previews and everything like that, I thought Baylor was going to be like a like a top three team by most people's standards.
- 58:12SPEAKER_02: They're not.
- 58:14SPEAKER_02: Baylor is kind of put in that second tier of Big 12 teams, and that surprised me because, and it pains me to say, I think Baylor's gonna be really damn good this year.
- 58:23SPEAKER_02: Yeah, um, they were definitely an option here for what I was thinking of for this award.
- 58:28SPEAKER_02: Ultimately, what I went with is uh another one that kind of pains me to say the Houston Cougars.
- 58:35SPEAKER_06: Yeah, that was the bad team I thought was gonna be decent.
- 58:39SPEAKER_02: I think the Houston Cougars have a chance to finish potentially as high as like fourth in the conference.
- 58:47SPEAKER_02: Wow.
- 58:48SPEAKER_06: I think bowl game.
- 58:50SPEAKER_02: I mean, yes, I think they're very underrated going into the year, and Willie Fritz is a hell of a coach.
- 58:56SPEAKER_02: Um, I just think that culture and what he's building over there, and he's recruiting very well.
- 59:02SPEAKER_02: Um, I think Houston's gonna shock some people this year.
- 59:05SPEAKER_02: And I'm now do I think they're gonna be Arizona State of last year?
- 59:08SPEAKER_02: No, but I do think that Houston is going to be a tough out for every basically every team going into this year.
- 59:17SPEAKER_02: Um, so that's my a little bit of a hot take, I guess, but that is my most underrated team going into this year.
- 59:25SPEAKER_06: That's a good one, dude.
- 59:26SPEAKER_06: Because I had them down and then I changed it to Baylor.
- 59:29SPEAKER_06: Okay.
- 59:30SPEAKER_06: Because like I was like, who do I actually see in the final race come the end of the season?
- 59:36SPEAKER_06: It was Baylor, not Houston.
- 59:37SPEAKER_06: So I went to Baylor.
- 59:38SPEAKER_02: I feel you.
- 59:39SPEAKER_02: I feel you.
- 59:40SPEAKER_02: No, I think they're both good choices for most underrated.
- 59:43SPEAKER_02: All right.
- 59:44SPEAKER_02: The 2017 UCF Award for most likable team in the Big 12.
- 59:50SPEAKER_02: So you can't take off your Big 12 hat, take off your Texas Tech hat here for a second, and look at this conference as a whole.
- 59:57SPEAKER_02: Who do you think is the most likable team?
- 59:59SPEAKER_02: And the reason I named it after the 2017 UCF Knights is because in 2017, everybody loved that team.
- 1:00:07SPEAKER_02: Everybody loved that team.
- 1:00:08SPEAKER_02: Now, it's a little annoying now when they're claiming national championships and everything like that.
- 1:00:12SPEAKER_02: But at the time when they were calling themselves national champions over Alabama, I was all in on the UCF trade.
- 1:00:20SPEAKER_02: And they were a very likable team at the time.
- 1:00:22SPEAKER_02: So um, who who's the most likable team in the Big 12?
- 1:00:26SPEAKER_06: Let's just say if I was a Knight in Orlando, I would use that to rage bait all the time.
- 1:00:31SPEAKER_06: All the time.
- 1:00:32SPEAKER_06: All the time.
- 1:00:33SPEAKER_06: If I was in an Indian argument, I was like, how many national championships have you won?
- 1:00:37SPEAKER_02: We've won one.
- 1:00:38SPEAKER_02: It's on the stadium.
- 1:00:39SPEAKER_02: What are you talking about?
- 1:00:41SPEAKER_06: Dude, uh, I think this was an easy one for me.
- 1:00:44SPEAKER_06: Uh, most likable team.
- 1:00:45SPEAKER_06: I how could it not be the Arizona State Sun Devils?
- 1:00:48SPEAKER_06: You know, like they they just seem to have such a uh uh Joey Maguire and um uh dead Dillingham just seem to have such a bromance dude, and they seem to just have nothing but respect for each other, and they're just so likable over there.
- 1:01:03SPEAKER_06: Um and I haven't seen the fans get too uh all trashy talking to you over the top or anything like that, like Utah have.
- 1:01:10SPEAKER_06: And I I think it's I at this moment I think it's Arizona State.
- 1:01:14SPEAKER_06: I think they're having another solid year, and I I just think they're a lot of fun.
- 1:01:17SPEAKER_06: I I they got it's just they got something so fun going on in Tempe.
- 1:01:22SPEAKER_02: I think when you're looking at this as the conference as a whole, taking off all your all the Big 12 and Texas Tech affiliation, Utah definitely doesn't win this award.
- 1:01:32SPEAKER_02: They're probably last because all the Big 12 teams hate Utah.
- 1:01:35SPEAKER_02: Yeah, Texas Tech is one of the most disliked teams, I think, right now.
- 1:01:42SPEAKER_02: Really?
- 1:01:42SPEAKER_07: You really think so?
- 1:01:43SPEAKER_02: 100% because we're paying all this money, everything like that.
- 1:01:48SPEAKER_02: Where you know, Joey hypes up the team, and that can be off-putting to people that don't root for Texas Tech.
- 1:01:54SPEAKER_02: I think I think Texas Tech is one of the more one of the least likable teams from an outsider's perspective, looking at for this conference.
- 1:02:02SPEAKER_02: Um, so I thought those were the two teams, and then TCU has a Bryals coaching for them.
- 1:02:07SPEAKER_02: So yeah, that's yeah, nobody's nobody's hyped up about.
- 1:02:10SPEAKER_06: I don't think anyone's really really likes Sonny Dykes either.
- 1:02:13SPEAKER_06: I think a lot of people are just kind of out on TCU.
- 1:02:17SPEAKER_02: Arizona State's the answer here for sure.
- 1:02:19SPEAKER_02: Kenny Billingham is so likable.
- 1:02:21SPEAKER_02: That guy is so easy to root for, and there's nothing about that team that is off-putting, honestly.
- 1:02:28SPEAKER_02: Um, the and they've shown it already to be you know a really good football team on the field.
- 1:02:33SPEAKER_02: So I think I think their hype is deserved, and I think they are the most likable team.
- 1:02:38SPEAKER_02: I just want to throw somebody out there.
- 1:02:41SPEAKER_02: Are people gonna start liking Colorado?
- 1:02:45SPEAKER_06: Why?
- 1:02:46SPEAKER_06: Because the the the the uh speech door and Travis are gone because because Shador's gone.
- 1:02:52SPEAKER_02: Not they like Travis Hunter, yeah.
- 1:02:54SPEAKER_02: He's the Heisman, you know, you can't not like him.
- 1:02:57SPEAKER_02: And Coach Prime going through his health scares this offseason.
- 1:03:01SPEAKER_02: Yeah, is there a sympathy thing for Colorado now?
- 1:03:05SPEAKER_02: And now he doesn't have his son, and Shador's a little annoying, and everything like that.
- 1:03:09SPEAKER_02: He's out of the picture.
- 1:03:10SPEAKER_02: And if Colorado's good this year, I think people are gonna ride the Dion train again.
- 1:03:17SPEAKER_06: Yeah, that's a good pick.
- 1:03:18SPEAKER_06: I think that's a good pick.
- 1:03:19SPEAKER_06: I I I think it's you're kind of like you're in or out with Colorado.
- 1:03:23SPEAKER_06: I think I don't think there's really any lukewarmness there.
- 1:03:25SPEAKER_02: Um that is that is true.
- 1:03:27SPEAKER_02: Whenever Dion starts getting in front of the mic again pretty consistently and like you know, spelling off like he does.
- 1:03:31SPEAKER_02: I think I think some people would find that off-putting.
- 1:03:33SPEAKER_06: I just wanted to throw that out there as like uh I think it's I think that's an interesting throw out there.
- 1:03:38SPEAKER_06: I do say though, for tech fans, the thing was I'm sure a lot of tech fans are probably shaking their heads because it did feel like their game in Lubbock was pretty contentious.
- 1:03:46SPEAKER_06: It did it felt pretty testy, but um uh but I mean that's football, baby.
- 1:03:52SPEAKER_06: But that's uh no, I'm with you though.
- 1:03:54SPEAKER_02: Okay, let's move on.
- 1:03:56SPEAKER_02: Just sticking with the Colorado theme.
- 1:03:58SPEAKER_02: The Travis Hunter Award for the best chance for the Heisman of all the Big 12 players.
- 1:04:05SPEAKER_02: By the way, full on Ken Hance here.
- 1:04:09SPEAKER_02: When the Heisman committee wanted to choose a winner, they didn't go to the SEC, they didn't go to the Big Ten, but they went to the little old Big 12 conference and gave it to Travis Hunter last year.
- 1:04:22SPEAKER_02: This is the reigning Heisman conference.
- 1:04:25SPEAKER_02: I just want to let everybody know that.
- 1:04:27SPEAKER_02: Before that, it was Kyler Murray and and uh Baker for OU, and before that it was RG3.
- 1:04:35SPEAKER_02: So the Big 12 has had some Heisman's as of recent in the past years.
- 1:04:40SPEAKER_02: Um who's who's your who's who's your choice for most likely to win the Heisman of the Big 12?
- 1:04:47SPEAKER_06: I feel like the Heisman for once was actually given to the best player in the country last year, and not just the quarterback on the team that's going to win the national championship.
- 1:04:57SPEAKER_06: You know, so um that was that was pretty cool.
- 1:05:02SPEAKER_06: Um I think the only uh I mean there's plenty of talented players in this conference.
- 1:05:06SPEAKER_06: I'm not saying that, I'm just thinking, but I think the only logical player that makes any sense in my brain that's doing this math is Sam Levitt of Arizona State.
- 1:05:15SPEAKER_06: The reason why is because you know they have this miracle season last year, and you know, and this guy has a great season, you know, with helping out with his cataboo.
- 1:05:23SPEAKER_06: Um, but you know, a lot of heads say that this guy's got the most powerful arm in the conference, you know, and he and he's just a obviously a top at least a top three in the conference.
- 1:05:33SPEAKER_06: So I think if Arizona State goes off again and wins another Big 12 title and goes back to the playoff, I think he's like pretty deep in that conversation.
- 1:05:41SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I this is this is the answer.
- 1:05:44SPEAKER_02: But yeah, and and there's a couple reasons why.
- 1:05:46SPEAKER_02: One, he's already been in the playoff.
- 1:05:48SPEAKER_02: He and he and he had a good game against Texas and nearly beat them.
- 1:05:52SPEAKER_02: Refs two, they're the preseason number 11 team in the country.
- 1:05:58SPEAKER_02: You need the narrative, and they already.
- 1:06:00SPEAKER_02: Yeah, we're starting off really good in the preseason ranks.
- 1:06:02SPEAKER_02: Uh Heisman, a lot of it is about the story and about um how we need it.
- 1:06:07SPEAKER_02: So if if Arizona State, you know, potentially has another dream season and they go undefeated all the way through and they're a top four seed, you know, into the college football playoff, I think Sam Levitt will be a big reason why, and you know, gonna be the face of that team.
- 1:06:22SPEAKER_02: So that's that's the choice.
- 1:06:24SPEAKER_02: I just want to throw a couple more names out there.
- 1:06:26SPEAKER_02: One, Sawyer Robertson of Baylor.
- 1:06:30SPEAKER_02: Um, I think he's just a really, really good player, and and kind of kid.
- 1:06:35SPEAKER_02: Ah I know similar reason um to to Baylor uh just potentially being really, really good is I think Sawyer Robertson's gonna be a big reason why.
- 1:06:47SPEAKER_02: Um and he's just a damn good quarterback.
- 1:06:50SPEAKER_02: Yeah, my other one.
- 1:06:55SPEAKER_07: Say it.
- 1:06:56SPEAKER_07: Say it, dude.
- 1:06:56SPEAKER_07: Say it.
- 1:06:57SPEAKER_07: I know you're gonna say it.
- 1:06:58SPEAKER_02: Barron Morton! Yes, dude, yes, Baron Morton.
- 1:07:04SPEAKER_02: Listen, Texas Tech has the narrative.
- 1:07:08SPEAKER_02: They're in people's thoughts.
- 1:07:10SPEAKER_02: They're in people's uh everybody's kind of thinking, oh, maybe I'll tune into Texas Tech just to see.
- 1:07:16SPEAKER_02: They made a you know, they spent a lot of money in this offseason.
- 1:07:19SPEAKER_02: And then they go and they see them, and Texas Tech is 11-0, 12-0.
- 1:07:26SPEAKER_02: Barron Morton's gonna get talked about.
- 1:07:29SPEAKER_02: So that's that's what I'm saying.
- 1:07:31SPEAKER_02: We have the narrative going for us, but yes, Sam Levitt is the answer here.
- 1:07:35SPEAKER_06: Your narrative.
- 1:07:36SPEAKER_02: My narrative.
- 1:07:37SPEAKER_02: Well, okay, Soresby.
- 1:07:40SPEAKER_02: No, that's my own narrative.
- 1:07:41SPEAKER_02: That's not gonna be the highest narrative.
- 1:07:44SPEAKER_02: I'm I'm team Soresby for life, I think.
- 1:07:46SPEAKER_02: I'm all in.
- 1:07:48SPEAKER_07: Oh my god.
- 1:07:51SPEAKER_02: Oh man.
- 1:07:52SPEAKER_02: All right, let's move on to our final award of the night, and then we'll get into some prediction song of the week, and then we'll get you out of here.
- 1:07:59SPEAKER_02: The Spike Dykes Award for Coach of the Year.
- 1:08:03SPEAKER_02: I say this because the first ever Big 12 Coach of the Year was Spike Dykes.
- 1:08:10SPEAKER_06: That's a good lore, dude.
- 1:08:12SPEAKER_06: I didn't know that.
- 1:08:13SPEAKER_02: First ever Big 12 coach of the year was Spike Dykes.
- 1:08:16SPEAKER_02: I I went and looked at all the Big 12 coach of the years, and I was gonna eventually name this award after like the one who had the most Big 12 coach of the year, but I didn't want to name it after Bob Stoops.
- 1:08:26SPEAKER_02: So after Spike Dykes.
- 1:08:28SPEAKER_02: Uh who's your coach of the year?
- 1:08:33SPEAKER_02: You know my coach of the years.
- 1:08:35SPEAKER_06: Are you kidding me right now?
- 1:08:38SPEAKER_06: Come on, dude.
- 1:08:39SPEAKER_06: It's obviously Sonny Dykes.
- 1:08:41SPEAKER_06: Oh Lane Frost and or Rich Rod.
- 1:08:47SPEAKER_06: It's Joey McGuire, dude.
- 1:08:49SPEAKER_06: Are you kidding me?
- 1:08:50SPEAKER_06: It's Joey McGuire.
- 1:08:52SPEAKER_06: Come on, obviously, my narrative, you're right, dude.
- 1:08:57SPEAKER_07: Joe, it I don't know how it's not Joey Maguire if we don't win the conference.
- 1:09:00SPEAKER_07: I feel like that's just duh.
- 1:09:03SPEAKER_07: Like, oh, I don't know what else.
- 1:09:04SPEAKER_07: Uh, there's no there's no science to this.
- 1:09:06SPEAKER_07: That's just one plus one equals three.
- 1:09:08SPEAKER_07: I mean, come on, dude.
- 1:09:09SPEAKER_07: Let's go.
- 1:09:10SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I think we're uh I think we're getting into a situation with the Big 12 this year that nobody is like so underrated that if they I I guess if freaking UCF West Virginia.
- 1:09:29SPEAKER_02: I guess if UCF, West Virginia, or Arizona like go nuts.
- 1:09:33SPEAKER_02: No, I think Cincinnati, I don't know, maybe.
- 1:09:36SPEAKER_02: But I don't I don't think it's gonna be any of those guys.
- 1:09:39SPEAKER_02: Now that's an option.
- 1:09:40SPEAKER_02: Willie Fritz is an option here.
- 1:09:43SPEAKER_02: Um, I went with Dave Miranda.
- 1:09:45SPEAKER_02: Okay, because I I think Baylor is going to be good.
- 1:09:51SPEAKER_06: What does that imply, Steven?
- 1:09:53unknown: I don't know.
- 1:09:54SPEAKER_06: What are you implying?
- 1:09:55SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
- 1:09:56SPEAKER_02: We'll have to see.
- 1:09:57SPEAKER_02: Okay, we'll have to see.
- 1:10:00SPEAKER_02: Let's talk predictions.
- 1:10:03SPEAKER_02: Do you want to start with the Big 12 title game, or do you want to start with Texas Tex Record?
- 1:10:07SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 1:10:07SPEAKER_02: Where do you want to go?
- 1:10:08SPEAKER_02: You want to go record?
- 1:10:09SPEAKER_06: They kind of go together.
- 1:10:10SPEAKER_02: Oh, okay.
- 1:10:14SPEAKER_02: All right, let's move on to predictions.
- 1:10:17SPEAKER_02: Let's start with Texas Texas Record this year.
- 1:10:21SPEAKER_02: What do you got, Tristan?
- 1:10:22SPEAKER_02: What's what are we going to look forward or be disappointed by going into this year?
- 1:10:30SPEAKER_06: Steven.
- 1:10:32SPEAKER_06: The folks need to wait no more.
- 1:10:35SPEAKER_06: And I'm not going to make a dumb Sonny Dykes joke again.
- 1:10:38SPEAKER_06: Steven?
- 1:10:40SPEAKER_06: Texas Tech is going to win 10 games for the first time in God knows how freaking long, man.
- 1:10:48SPEAKER_06: We're going to win 10 games.
- 1:10:49SPEAKER_06: That is my optimistic view of this season.
- 1:10:51SPEAKER_06: 10 games.
- 1:10:52SPEAKER_06: We're going to the Big 12 championship.
- 1:10:55SPEAKER_06: The magic's happening.
- 1:10:56SPEAKER_06: All right.
- 1:10:57SPEAKER_06: I'm telling you, more is riding on the season than I can recall in the past.
- 1:11:02SPEAKER_06: And I'm ready to see the pieces come together.
- 1:11:04SPEAKER_06: I feel like I really don't, I really hope that this doesn't sound like we just every single year in a preseason we say we're going to win it all.
- 1:11:11SPEAKER_06: But dude, it has to happen this year.
- 1:11:14SPEAKER_06: So I'm going to say 10 games this year, 10 wins.
- 1:11:18SPEAKER_06: 10 and 2.
- 1:11:20SPEAKER_02: We do this every year.
- 1:11:22SPEAKER_06: I know.
- 1:11:23SPEAKER_06: We do this every year.
- 1:11:24SPEAKER_06: I don't know if we say 10 wins, though.
- 1:11:27SPEAKER_02: We've said we've been very optimistic.
- 1:11:31SPEAKER_02: Two years ago, I think we both predicted 11 wins.
- 1:11:35SPEAKER_06: Oh my gosh, dude.
- 1:11:38SPEAKER_02: Um what are your two lots?
- 1:11:42SPEAKER_02: Do you know your yeah?
- 1:11:44SPEAKER_06: I mean, I was like, I was kind of looking at it.
- 1:11:46SPEAKER_06: I said, look, you know, I just don't know if undefeated is logical.
- 1:11:51SPEAKER_06: So I thought maybe we drop one of Utah, K-State, or maybe like something spooky like U of H.
- 1:12:02SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 1:12:02SPEAKER_06: So that was that was kind of where and I kind of mix.
- 1:12:06SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 1:12:06SPEAKER_02: So 10 and 2.
- 1:12:07SPEAKER_02: That's a that's a spot in the Big 12 title game.
- 1:12:10SPEAKER_06: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:12:11SPEAKER_02: That's a potential playoff spot.
- 1:12:13SPEAKER_06: Indeed.
- 1:12:14SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 1:12:15SPEAKER_06: You, sir.
- 1:12:16SPEAKER_02: My prediction for Texas Tech.
- 1:12:19SPEAKER_02: 9 and 3.
- 1:12:21SPEAKER_06: That was my pessimistic outlook.
- 1:12:23SPEAKER_06: Why is yours so sad?
- 1:12:25SPEAKER_02: 9 and 3.
- 1:12:26SPEAKER_02: I don't know if I trust the offense enough.
- 1:12:29SPEAKER_02: If that has not made that has not been made clear throughout this entire podcast.
- 1:12:34SPEAKER_02: Um, I don't know.
- 1:12:36SPEAKER_02: Barron Barron needs to prove it.
- 1:12:38SPEAKER_02: I'm not saying he can't do it.
- 1:12:40SPEAKER_02: I'm just I I don't know.
- 1:12:44SPEAKER_02: I'm so in the dark on what Barron Morton is going to do this year.
- 1:12:48SPEAKER_02: And I try to envision looking at you know future games going into this year.
- 1:12:55SPEAKER_02: And gosh, I can just see Baron Morton potentially making a dumb play and looking like Washington State last year.
- 1:13:03SPEAKER_02: And I don't want that to happen.
- 1:13:05SPEAKER_02: I never would want that to happen.
- 1:13:06SPEAKER_02: I don't think that's going to happen.
- 1:13:07SPEAKER_02: Clearly, a nine-and-three record means you got a pretty good quarterback.
- 1:13:11SPEAKER_02: So I just don't know if he can be that guy to be the best quarterback, uh, to lead your team to an undefeated season or a 11 or 10 win season.
- 1:13:21SPEAKER_02: The three games I have us losing at Utah, which is the first Big 12 game of the year, which would be a real downer if we lost that game.
- 1:13:30SPEAKER_02: That would be a real kick in the hearts at Kansas State, because we can't seem to beat that team ever.
- 1:13:38SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 1:13:39SPEAKER_02: And it's in Manhattan.
- 1:13:42SPEAKER_02: And then I have us losing against Kansas.
- 1:13:45SPEAKER_02: At home.
- 1:13:46SPEAKER_02: At home.
- 1:13:47SPEAKER_02: At home.
- 1:13:48SPEAKER_02: Not that I'm a big Kansas believer.
- 1:13:50SPEAKER_02: I think that's going to be a game that we stupidly drop.
- 1:13:54unknown: Dang.
- 1:13:55SPEAKER_02: We've done that before.
- 1:13:57SPEAKER_02: We've done that a few times before.
- 1:14:00SPEAKER_02: Where we're clearly the better team, and yet we drop it.
- 1:14:03SPEAKER_02: And we've seen these hyped up games.
- 1:14:06SPEAKER_02: They're already starting it with the hundredth year celebration and the cool new jerseys and all this stuff.
- 1:14:12SPEAKER_02: And guess what?
- 1:14:13SPEAKER_02: We don't win a lot of those.
- 1:14:14SPEAKER_02: No, we're super hyped up and we're like primetime television, night game, whatever.
- 1:14:19SPEAKER_02: It's happened the previous two years last year with Colorado, where we were on big noon kickoff, and then we got smoked.
- 1:14:25SPEAKER_02: The previous year, where it was Baylor against Joey in Lubbock, Patrick Mahomes is getting his name on the stadium, and we get freaking stomped.
- 1:14:35SPEAKER_02: So I don't trust Texas Tech in these gimmick games where we get a lot of hype and we get a lot of eyes on us.
- 1:14:41SPEAKER_02: I think we're gonna drop it against Kansas.
- 1:14:43SPEAKER_02: And I think that we're nine and three.
- 1:14:46SPEAKER_02: Potentially, depending on how the rest of the Big 12 plays out, maybe you go to Arlington, but likely you get left out.
- 1:14:53SPEAKER_06: Wow, dude.
- 1:14:54SPEAKER_06: You don't think we're making the championship this year?
- 1:14:57SPEAKER_02: No, I do not.
- 1:14:58SPEAKER_02: I'm not saying at least I'm not predicting it.
- 1:15:02SPEAKER_06: That's we're the most talented we've ever been.
- 1:15:04SPEAKER_02: We haven't seen this team play.
- 1:15:07SPEAKER_02: We haven't seen this team play yet.
- 1:15:10SPEAKER_02: 9-3 is the best record that we've had since 2009.
- 1:15:14SPEAKER_06: Hey, I wouldn't record.
- 1:15:16SPEAKER_06: I wouldn't hate it, but it would somehow still feel sort of disappointing.
- 1:15:22SPEAKER_02: This record would be disappointing.
- 1:15:23SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 1:15:24SPEAKER_02: It would be.
- 1:15:26SPEAKER_02: I think we're gonna be asking some questions potentially.
- 1:15:28SPEAKER_04: Yeah, for sure.
- 1:15:28SPEAKER_02: I I want to put the uh the you know, the thing out there.
- 1:15:33SPEAKER_02: We haven't watched this team play.
- 1:15:35SPEAKER_02: We don't know how good they're gonna be.
- 1:15:37SPEAKER_02: This is a prediction uh after not seeing this team play.
- 1:15:40SPEAKER_02: So if you're gonna roast me at the end of the year, I guess you have all the all the means to.
- 1:15:45SPEAKER_06: We'll know everything we need to know after Pine Bluff and Kint State.
- 1:15:52SPEAKER_02: Yes, we're gonna know exactly who this team is.
- 1:15:56SPEAKER_06: Yes, we'll be tested and we'll be ready.
- 1:16:01SPEAKER_02: Oh, all right, buddy.
- 1:16:03SPEAKER_02: Title game.
- 1:16:04SPEAKER_02: We know one of your teams.
- 1:16:05SPEAKER_06: I don't want to hear yours, dude.
- 1:16:06SPEAKER_06: Yours sucks.
- 1:16:07SPEAKER_02: We know one of your teams.
- 1:16:09SPEAKER_06: Yes.
- 1:16:10SPEAKER_02: What's your title game?
- 1:16:11SPEAKER_02: My title game.
- 1:16:13SPEAKER_02: Big 12 title game, not national.
- 1:16:15SPEAKER_06: Big 12 title game is the butt bull.
- 1:16:19SPEAKER_02: I like it.
- 1:16:20SPEAKER_06: It's the butt bowl, baby.
- 1:16:22SPEAKER_06: All right, we're gonna throw it back.
- 1:16:24SPEAKER_06: We're going back to the uh, what was that?
- 1:16:26SPEAKER_06: Like farmers insurance shoot-off that we used to do every single year with Baylor and Arlington.
- 1:16:32SPEAKER_06: We're running it at back.
- 1:16:33SPEAKER_06: We don't play each other during the season, and I think we'll just be able to be running parallel with each other, only to clash at the end in Dallas.
- 1:16:43SPEAKER_06: So I'm going with the butt game, and I envision our Red Raiders hoisting said crystal ball over their heads.
- 1:16:52SPEAKER_06: That's I mean, I meant like bowl.
- 1:16:53SPEAKER_06: Are they still gonna go crystal bowl or did they change it?
- 1:16:56SPEAKER_06: I think they might have changed it, but I don't know.
- 1:16:58SPEAKER_06: But yeah, that's what's happening.
- 1:17:00SPEAKER_06: That's what's happening in Arlington.
- 1:17:02SPEAKER_02: I love it.
- 1:17:03SPEAKER_02: If I went Texas Tech in the title game, I would have had the same answer.
- 1:17:10SPEAKER_02: Which, if you're a person with a brain, you can you now know who one of the teams in my title game is.
- 1:17:17SPEAKER_06: Texas Tech.
- 1:17:18SPEAKER_02: No.
- 1:17:19SPEAKER_06: You suck, dude.
- 1:17:21SPEAKER_06: I hate you.
- 1:17:22SPEAKER_02: It's Baylor.
- 1:17:23SPEAKER_02: Baylor's, I think, is gonna be there.
- 1:17:27SPEAKER_02: Arizona State.
- 1:17:29SPEAKER_02: Arizona State Baylor this year for the Big 12 title.
- 1:17:33SPEAKER_02: Um I'm in on Dillingham.
- 1:17:36SPEAKER_02: I hate, I hate how much I like Baylor going into this year.
- 1:17:42SPEAKER_02: I hate it.
- 1:17:43SPEAKER_02: I can't stand it.
- 1:17:44SPEAKER_02: I can't look myself in the mirror.
- 1:17:45SPEAKER_02: I can't do it.
- 1:17:46SPEAKER_02: I'm like, you think Baylor's gonna be in the Big 12 title game?
- 1:17:50SPEAKER_06: You think they're gonna win it, obviously.
- 1:17:52SPEAKER_02: I do.
- 1:17:54SPEAKER_06: I don't like you right now, dude.
- 1:17:56SPEAKER_02: I know.
- 1:17:56SPEAKER_06: I don't like you.
- 1:17:57SPEAKER_02: I'm I what what I'm really doing here is I'm pulling a Joe Goodman from the Bear Den podcast last year when he predicted Texas Tech to win the Big 12 and go like 11 and 1.
- 1:18:09SPEAKER_02: No, it wasn't last year, it was the year prior.
- 1:18:10SPEAKER_06: Yeah, it was the year before.
- 1:18:11SPEAKER_02: It was the year prior.
- 1:18:12SPEAKER_02: Yeah, when we went on their pod and we all predicted, and and Joe was all in and said, 11 and 1, Texas Tech, you're gonna win the whole thing.
- 1:18:21SPEAKER_02: And then we did.
- 1:18:23SPEAKER_02: Um I'm hoping I I have this same reverse jinx going on here.
- 1:18:27SPEAKER_02: So, yes, I have Baylor Arizona State in the title game, and I have Baylor winning the whole thing.
- 1:18:32SPEAKER_06: I hate that, but I uh I respectfully agree.
- 1:18:38SPEAKER_06: We got some serious Baylor respectors on this podcast tonight.
- 1:18:41SPEAKER_06: I swear.
- 1:18:42SPEAKER_02: I don't like it.
- 1:18:43SPEAKER_06: I don't like what we um it's the bear din right now, man.
- 1:18:46SPEAKER_06: They gotta start, they gotta start publishing us.
- 1:18:49SPEAKER_02: I love those guys, but I hate what they're doing to us.
- 1:18:53SPEAKER_06: I think the the great thing that what would happen is we'd finally be able to host a podcast with them again, you know, since we can't do it this year.
- 1:19:00SPEAKER_02: So yeah, that's well, okay.
- 1:19:02SPEAKER_02: So I'm hoping your prediction comes true for more than one reason.
- 1:19:05SPEAKER_02: Is that why for more than one reason?
- 1:19:08SPEAKER_02: So we can have a live pod in Dallas with the boys from the bear dead.
- 1:19:14SPEAKER_02: So please, let's make it.
- 1:19:16SPEAKER_06: That'd be awesome.
- 1:19:17SPEAKER_06: That'd be great.
- 1:19:19SPEAKER_02: Who you got winning the Big 12?
- 1:19:21SPEAKER_02: Texas Tech.
- 1:19:22SPEAKER_02: Okay, so you do have tech, you have Tech Baylor, and you have Tech beating Baylor for the Big 12 championship and going to the college football playoff.
- 1:19:31SPEAKER_02: That's what you have.
- 1:19:32SPEAKER_06: My my my my scared rational self by the back of my brain is is going, I can't believe you've done this.
- 1:19:39SPEAKER_02: When I'm going when I went through this and I said, Do I really want to do this to myself?
- 1:19:45SPEAKER_02: Do I really want to predict that Texas Tech is going to the college football playoff?
- 1:19:49SPEAKER_02: And I said no.
- 1:19:51SPEAKER_02: I showed some restraint.
- 1:19:53SPEAKER_07: I'm not going to do it.
- 1:19:55SPEAKER_07: I'm not going to do it.
- 1:19:56SPEAKER_07: It's got to hit at some point, said the desperate fan.
- 1:19:59SPEAKER_07: Okay.
- 1:20:00SPEAKER_07: So it's it's not it's got to.
- 1:20:04SPEAKER_02: Listen, we didn't think Texas Tech basketball would be in the in the final four ever.
- 1:20:09SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:20:09SPEAKER_02: When we got to score.
- 1:20:10SPEAKER_02: So things change.
- 1:20:12SPEAKER_02: Things change.
- 1:20:13SPEAKER_02: And this would be one of the one of the talking the final four here.
- 1:20:18SPEAKER_02: Well, the college football playoff.
- 1:20:20SPEAKER_02: That's a big deal.
- 1:20:21SPEAKER_06: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:20:23SPEAKER_02: So, okay.
- 1:20:25SPEAKER_02: Good predictions.
- 1:20:26SPEAKER_02: I hope I'm wrong.
- 1:20:27SPEAKER_02: I hope you're right.
- 1:20:28SPEAKER_02: Um I'm smarter.
- 1:20:30SPEAKER_02: That's true.
- 1:20:31SPEAKER_06: Better looking.
- 1:20:32SPEAKER_02: Well, let's settle down there, guy.
- 1:20:39SPEAKER_02: Who you got?
- 1:20:40SPEAKER_02: Uh K-State?
- 1:20:41SPEAKER_02: Iowa State in Dublin.
- 1:20:42SPEAKER_02: Who you got?
- 1:20:43SPEAKER_06: Who I got for that one?
- 1:20:44SPEAKER_06: Uh uh let's go Iowa State.
- 1:20:47SPEAKER_02: I got Iowa State too.
- 1:20:49SPEAKER_02: I'm sticking with my K-State's overrated theory here.
- 1:20:52SPEAKER_02: And also I want this for Cyclone Larry.
- 1:20:54SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I mean, just the clones.
- 1:20:57SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:20:58SPEAKER_02: I'm I'm still out on the Dublin game, but I'd be all in if tech was in it.
- 1:21:02SPEAKER_06: So tickets now.
- 1:21:05SPEAKER_02: Tickets now.
- 1:21:06SPEAKER_06: But we're going.
- 1:21:07SPEAKER_02: Um, all right, buddy.
- 1:21:08SPEAKER_02: Let's finish her off here.
- 1:21:10SPEAKER_02: I think this is a fun pod.
- 1:21:11SPEAKER_06: Yep.
- 1:21:12SPEAKER_02: Song of the week.
- 1:21:13SPEAKER_02: Go ahead.
- 1:21:14SPEAKER_06: Song of the week.
- 1:21:15SPEAKER_06: I'm going to go with a red raider, who's actually been quite in the mix with TechStech Media lately, with it be a podcast or narrating uh football videos.
- 1:21:25SPEAKER_06: And I'm going to go with Mr.
- 1:21:26SPEAKER_06: William Clark Green and his new drinking banger.
- 1:21:30SPEAKER_06: He makes really good ones with drinking and driving.
- 1:21:44SPEAKER_06: Okay, drinking and driving.
- 1:21:47SPEAKER_06: It's a jam about getting out to the course with your boys.
- 1:21:50SPEAKER_06: I'm not a golfer myself, but dang, the song makes you want to do it.
- 1:21:54SPEAKER_06: The song is obviously a play on words.
- 1:21:56SPEAKER_06: Okay, it's he's highly condoning drinking and driving.
- 1:22:01SPEAKER_06: Okay, so that's why it's funny.
- 1:22:03SPEAKER_02: Kind of sounds like you and kind of sounds like you and William Clark Green are condoning some bad behavior.
- 1:22:12SPEAKER_06: In the cool way, but not the illegal way.
- 1:22:15SPEAKER_02: In the cool way, but also might be a little illegal.
- 1:22:18SPEAKER_02: Uh good choice.
- 1:22:21SPEAKER_02: I have yet to listen to that one.
- 1:22:23SPEAKER_02: I know you said it in the in the Greek text a while back, but I'll have to give that one a listen.
- 1:22:27SPEAKER_02: My song of the week, much like our predictions, much like our superlatives, uh, has something to do with it.
- 1:22:34SPEAKER_02: It's um it's what I got by Sublime.
- 1:22:39SPEAKER_00: Life is so love for one you got, because you might get run over, or you might get shot.
- 1:22:44SPEAKER_00: Never style static, I just did it off my shit.
- 1:22:47SPEAKER_00: Never had the battle with my bullet proof.
- 1:22:50SPEAKER_02: Banger.
- 1:22:51SPEAKER_02: Banger of a song.
- 1:22:53SPEAKER_02: And also, this is prove it time.
- 1:22:56SPEAKER_02: This is we're about to see what the Big 12s got going into this year.
- 1:23:00SPEAKER_02: We're about to see what Texas Tech's got going into this year.
- 1:23:04SPEAKER_02: I'm excited for college football this weekend, dude.
- 1:23:06SPEAKER_02: Um, I I can't wait for Texas Tech to start the following weekend.
- 1:23:11SPEAKER_02: Um it's here, football season has arrived.
- 1:23:14SPEAKER_06: Finally, dude.
- 1:23:15SPEAKER_06: It always feels like it takes it takes so long, but dude, let's go.
- 1:23:18SPEAKER_06: It's here.
- 1:23:19SPEAKER_06: I'm ready to go.
- 1:23:20SPEAKER_02: Very excited.
