- 0:44Welcome back to the boundary Corner podcast with my co-host.
- 0:49Brian Sigler, I am Curtis Wilson, big guy, how you doing?
- 0:53Tonight. Oh man, I'm good.
- 0:56Both classes this week, we're canceled.
- 0:58So I've been kind of living the normal evening run the last
- 1:03three nights man. It's been nice.
- 1:05Both both, how did I get lucky? Monday was for, unfortunately,
- 1:12sad or circumstances. I guess to like a friend from
- 1:16from school and passed away. So Professor was attending the
- 1:19funeral cancel class. The professor gave us a mental
- 1:23health. So mental health line, I'll take
- 1:27it. You need those.
- 1:30You need mental health nights. You need mental health days.
- 1:33I 100% agree on cam preciate. Yeah, we're rolling tonight.
- 1:39It's going to be fun. We're going to put West,
- 1:42Virginia behind us a little bit, and we're going to try to move
- 1:45forward and see what we can do with the rest of the season.
- 1:48Absolutely Tuesday afternoon. You've all lit up.
- 1:52Regardless, good bad or indifferent, take the shot
- 1:56towards the trash. Can you sink it?
- 1:59You say, no. Be you say Kobe and you move
- 2:02home? Because that's all you can do.
- 2:07If you continue to dwell on it, you will drive yourself a little
- 2:09bit insane and we're not going to do that because we are on the
- 2:13Richmond. All right?
- 2:17Before we hop into that, we got some other things we want to
- 2:21talk about. You National stories and a
- 2:26couple fun things but let's do this.
- 2:28Brian Say it Brian. Just say it.
- 2:33I told you so. What I'm referring to is that
- 2:37preseason polls are bullshit because 19 of the preseason, top
- 2:4225 have all taken Ells in 3 weeks.
- 2:46And that's insane. And some of those have taken
- 2:51multiple Elle's Miami, um, summer gone.
- 2:56So I'm probably won't be able to get back.
- 2:58Um, but it's to the point, it's a preseason.
- 3:02I heard it being said recently, it's just something to talk
- 3:05about now. You should take it serious.
- 3:08It's if you get preseason ranked, you can be hyped as fun.
- 3:12But until you get on the field and start playing games against
- 3:16God. Petition.
- 3:17It's worthless. I like preseason previews and
- 3:21previews that put a power ranking on things.
- 3:23I Don't Like official poles. I think that's where I need to
- 3:28differentiate between what I'm talking about here.
- 3:31I love learning about what teams are bringing to the table of the
- 3:34year. I love people trying to get take
- 3:38that those things on paper and try to put that out there and
- 3:41see kind of where those predictions fall.
- 3:44I don't like those poles. Mattering in terms of how the
- 3:49season shapes. Yes exception.
- 3:52The Top 25 Poll was such a perception thing and it's when
- 3:55you have someone role in in November and a teams are 7 and 1
- 4:01and this is you know it happens everywhere there's seven and one
- 4:05but they have three top 20 wins and you go back and look will
- 4:09two of those top 20 wins were with teams that are not even
- 4:13getting boats anymore and you No, the other teams 24th like at
- 4:20least the college football, playoff puts that somewhat in
- 4:23context but it's still shapes. How we perceive the whole thing.
- 4:27It's true. You don't see much variation
- 4:29from it and I think, you know, will it ever go away?
- 4:33No. So it's always going to be a Hot
- 4:35Topic. Yep.
- 4:36Any and it also shows you to that. to me, there are writers
- 4:42throughout the country who just throw names out there just to
- 4:49throw names out there, maybe it'd be fun if someone took a,
- 4:55if someone took a What's the port?
- 5:01If someone looked at all the Riders and just like listed them
- 5:04each out? Of how they, how they started
- 5:09the beginning of the season and then continue it and essentially
- 5:13Crown the best AP writer like nip, man, your top 25 at the
- 5:19beginning, it never really wavered.
- 5:21You took people out when they had a loss.
- 5:24Like a bad loss. You know, give that guy like a
- 5:27hundred thousand dollars or something.
- 5:29Now Bryan, speaking of the cfp, The committee announced tonight
- 5:35that it will no longer hold a vote on expansion next Tuesday.
- 5:41Realignment has given them cold feet.
- 5:46Well, then, I know there's other factors playing in there, but I
- 5:50feel like the realignment thing and SEC has given the committee
- 5:58as a whole cold feet in terms of moving on this.
- 6:01They're now talking about, they're going to consider
- 6:03Potentially Aid, along with 12, they still say 12 is the best
- 6:08overall model, but they want to address some of the issues that
- 6:11have been brought to their attention with it.
- 6:14And I mean, I said it myself, 12 isn't perfect, but what I said
- 6:18is 12, I think is best for everyone involved.
- 6:22So 12, the best option for Blue Bloods.
- 6:25And for up-and-comers, and for the G5.
- 6:30That's what gives enough room for everybody to eat a little, A
- 6:33bit. Yep, exactly and I because the
- 6:36the Blue Bloods are going to eat.
- 6:37Regardless, it gives a little more room for everybody else to
- 6:40eat a little bit as well. Exactly.
- 6:42And probably the biggest thing with the realignment is when
- 6:45they were going in there, their expectation was, we're going to
- 6:49give six because we have five power conferences.
- 6:52They consistently put out top 10 teams and we're going to give a
- 6:57bone to a G5 conference will. Now they have to look at it to
- 7:01say. Is the realignment of the G5
- 7:06hate to say this and you feel for those teams is the
- 7:11realignment of the G5 going to be good enough to back in a spot
- 7:19at the table. I mean they're losing
- 7:20Cincinnati, they're using UCF, they're losing Houston, they're
- 7:24losing, you know BYU is independent but you could still
- 7:27see them as getting the at-large bid potentially so it's like
- 7:32Just going to I think they I think eventually they're going
- 7:36to stick with 12 but you know I think they're going to do Ron.
- 7:39Five automatic bids top five conferences.
- 7:44And because I think what they're seeing is like, the new Big 12
- 7:49is not going to be as good as the old Big 12, but it's not
- 7:52going to be lower than some of the G5 teams.
- 7:55It's going to be in the middle there.
- 7:57So we're essentially going to give them a bone that if they
- 7:59can pull a top quilt team off every year, they're going to get
- 8:04it. Yeah, and I guess the other big
- 8:06question is that you know, now with A lot of these big G five
- 8:11schools, moving to the Big 12 sec, getting stronger, you know,
- 8:15at what point is more teams, actually diluting the product in
- 8:20terms of automatic bids for and that's why I think they go to
- 8:24five and then they just and then it lays where it may.
- 8:31So, hopefully, they get it done, quick.
- 8:33I mean, I think also, what might be happening to is the cfp might
- 8:38be in some sort of scrutiny. As these realignments are
- 8:41happening, Fox is making phone calls.
- 8:44Maybe CBS is making phone calls saying, hey, we want in on these
- 8:48playoff games and for them, the smartest move is just going to
- 8:52be wait and see what happens, because if you got multiple bids
- 8:57on multiple games, then you're really talking a for the cfp in
- 9:03general, just to have stronger leverage over to meet strong or
- 9:06leverage over ESPN where ESPN can dictate all the terms.
- 9:11Yeah. I think that's the big thing.
- 9:12I think the whole point of this long term is to Wrench, some of
- 9:19the leverage away from ESPN and sec in general, and try to get
- 9:23it a little bit more more balanced in terms of how those
- 9:29distribution rights are kind of divvied out there.
- 9:33We'll see if this is you know another part of that leverage
- 9:36along with the the alliance with the ACC, the Big Ten in the
- 9:40Pac-12. Abso-freakin'-lutely.
- 9:43Hi Brian. Well let's turn now to the Hokey
- 9:45side. Let's talk about a few things
- 9:47that came out of the presser. Yes, we drop it in the garbage
- 9:50but we still need to address both of these quotes here from
- 9:55the point, a presser on Monday that we listen to.
- 9:57So the first thing was talking about the offense and this was
- 10:02the quote, we stunk, you don't get down there three times and
- 10:06Come Away with nothing and not re-evaluate and talk about and
- 10:10look at all. It's of it top to bottom.
- 10:13We weren't very good. What do you say to that quote?
- 10:20Brian. What is that telling you Depends
- 10:24on who he's referring to when he says, we I mean in general.
- 10:28You know what we talked about is that you know, a lot of This
- 10:33falls back on the coaches because when you look at it
- 10:36either, the calls were bad. You can we can debate that if
- 10:40you want to, but objectively I think some of those calls were
- 10:43bad but outside of that outside of that you know if you're
- 10:48saying the execution wasn't there.
- 10:50Okay well it's the coach's responsibility to get the
- 10:52players ready to execute the Please in these types of
- 10:55situations. Exactly.
- 10:57Either way, it's falling back on either preparation or the calls
- 11:00themselves. So you know that that's one
- 11:03aspect of it. What did, what was your
- 11:05takeaway? Um very similar to that, you
- 11:09know, the whole thing that I I like to hear is the re-evaluate
- 11:16and look at all aspects, because in the past, a lot of his
- 11:21quotes, it always been about execution.
- 11:23A lot of his quote is always been again to me.
- 11:27It always had slanted toward the players more than the coaches.
- 11:31You know, because the most time people when they hear execution,
- 11:34the first thing they think is last slide on the players,
- 11:37you've always made the point of. Well, execution is just as much
- 11:40on the coaches because it's their job to teach it and get it
- 11:44executed correctly. So when I hear that you know
- 11:47hopefully going back in its you're looking and he's sitting
- 11:52there with The entire offensive coaching staff and saying okay,
- 11:58here was the first play. Why did we do this?
- 12:02Okay? Right.
- 12:04Yeah, it started top-down say like and some of what you're
- 12:07talking about kind of goes into the second quote that we're
- 12:10going to talk about here. Yes.
- 12:12Yes. So to me the whole thing is
- 12:15great. You're going to re-evaluate it,
- 12:18you're going to Brian Kelly also fired a whole offensive staff a
- 12:27few years ago and since then has paid nothing but dividend.
- 12:30So he executed his staff and has since he definitely pulled the
- 12:36trigger that Fuente has yet to do yet.
- 12:39So yet to do with the other, you also killed a guys I think that
- 12:46was the reference and we just put her all.
- 12:48I know that was the reference. But the other pieces you can you
- 12:55do always heard him talk about execution.
- 12:56Now, the question is, as you re-evaluate it.
- 13:00What changes come from you can re-evaluate I can sit here and,
- 13:05you know, you can, we can re-evaluate anything in life if
- 13:09it's not going well. But if you sit there and say,
- 13:13well, what was just going to do the same old thing?
- 13:16Then what does it matter? Because the product that's
- 13:19happening. You didn't rat, you re-evaluate
- 13:22it, to get to the same answer nobody.
- 13:24So I'm going to use it the same way that I applied in my job.
- 13:27So data management. Data analysis.
- 13:32You know, if you, if you collect data and you have no intentions
- 13:36of doing anything of that with that data, what the hell are you
- 13:38collecting the data? For if you're not going to have
- 13:42some sort of application that you are collecting the data, for
- 13:46you need to just need to move on, so re-evaluation is great.
- 13:51But if you don't turn that into actionable changes moving
- 13:55forward, then it's all for naught.
- 13:58All for not at all now Going into what we talked about the
- 14:01top-down approach. The next quote was this and this
- 14:04is some sort of Defending and talking about bread for Nelson,
- 14:08but I would also say there's nobody an iron out, the minutiae
- 14:10it takes to give our guy's a chance to be successful.
- 14:13Then Brad Where's your bullshit meter on that one?
- 14:22It's overflowing man. I mean, because the thing is, if
- 14:25he is such great at minutiae and iron and things out, we wouldn't
- 14:31be talking about this in year six because it would have been
- 14:34hammered out in the last few years.
- 14:36So he's probably not great at it, or he could be great at very
- 14:42individual aspects of ironing out minutiae, but not ironing
- 14:46out an entire offensive. Coordinator type role.
- 14:51Well, I think it goes back to what we were just talking about
- 14:53with the collecting data is that I think he's decent at scheme.
- 14:59Okay, at game planning but awful at adjustments and situational
- 15:05situation situational play calls.
- 15:07So it mean, if you're, if you're going to get them a new Shin,
- 15:11break it down and have it there and you're still not going to
- 15:13make changes into how you approach those other aspects
- 15:16that you have known. Our flaws in your and your game.
- 15:22Then again, it doesn't matter how good you are at ironing out
- 15:24the minutiae, if you're not going to apply it in some way
- 15:28and a um I can't remember if it was me and you talking Brian.
- 15:31If I overheard it in a conversation well radio or other
- 15:37various Avenues but there was a discussion this week about there
- 15:42was a team that they knew that the offensive coordinator ran.
- 15:482220. But when it got inside the 20,
- 15:52essentially, the head coach Togo head coach had the background in
- 15:56authentic coordinating and when it clicked inside the 20 didn't
- 15:59matter. That was his focus.
- 16:02It helped in know. I think it's already thinking
- 16:05about it. Well, this helps a couple
- 16:07reasons, you know, if you got a coach, who's running the Scout
- 16:11teams, okay, he see in both sides of the ball.
- 16:16You know, where is he, where's his next Focus though?
- 16:20And for that coach it was the focus is.
- 16:22I'm going to focus inside the 20 yard line.
- 16:24Now I'm not sure if that coach is focusing on both sides.
- 16:27Maybe maybe he was. Maybe he was giving input to the
- 16:30defensive coordinator about looks that teens giving, and in
- 16:34his own team, I'm taking over the play controls.
- 16:37I'm going to call the place from here because I am focused on
- 16:40this piece so it's got to be something like that.
- 16:44So if you tell me, Me Saturday afternoon, we're watching the
- 16:47game and the production. The sideline reporter says, you
- 16:52know, Justin Fuente told us yesterday in the in our
- 16:57production meeting that plays inside the 25 he would do he
- 17:02would be taking over strictly. I hear that like okay, you're
- 17:07actually making a change and we actually get to see if
- 17:12anything's different Right? And that's what we want.
- 17:16We have been pretty awful on Red Zone opportunities really
- 17:20throughout the year so far in the first three games.
- 17:26We got to get better there. There's just, there's no way
- 17:28around it. You got to get better if we
- 17:30don't get better at putting points on the board when we get
- 17:32in scoring areas. Yep.
- 17:34Then it's gonna be a long year. Yeah.
- 17:36We got to get better in the issue and I know what was it?
- 17:40You brought up that you saw Monday night that the
- 17:44Discussing. Yeah.
- 17:45Hank Manning came up Monday night and if y'all washed it,
- 17:49what he talked about was third down, please.
- 17:54And he reference like 3rd and 10 because I think that was the
- 17:56play on the field. Third down, please are your
- 17:59playmaker plays. You figure.
- 18:02Essentially, he's saying the offensive Corner in their mind.
- 18:05Should be figuring out how to get one of these people the ball
- 18:11because they're the best players and they have the best.
- 18:14Opportunity to get the first down.
- 18:16But he backed it up with it. And said, now fourth-down calls
- 18:20are essentially, skiing calls You essentially its fourth and
- 18:25whatever I think at that point it was fourth and three or
- 18:27something that's a scheme called you look inside your thing and
- 18:30say this is our best play in the scheme for fourth and three or
- 18:34less or fourth, and four or less.
- 18:37This is how we're going to execute this play right here.
- 18:39This play, and it, and it, and when I, when you were, when we
- 18:44started talking about, it was just like, yeah, that makes
- 18:46sense, right? Because you can't scheme of
- 18:48third down and ten play. You can't You can't, you have to
- 18:53figure out a way to maybe you figure out a way to scheme.
- 18:56Your best player open, but that is still scanning your best
- 18:59player open. Not a lot allowing the skiing to
- 19:02drive derive. Who gets the ball?
- 19:05Yeah, and I feel like we're a lot more dependent on scheme for
- 19:10Success. Especially in the passing game
- 19:12than we really need to be. You know, we need to do a better
- 19:16job of imposing our will, and I hope that this game, this Week
- 19:22is when we really start to see some of that, maybe maybe not
- 19:27because Brian. There's a there's a lot of stuff
- 19:28going on and probably the biggest.
- 19:31Is it, right tackle? Yeah, I mean a little we find
- 19:37out after the game. We see broaden.
- 19:39Get out there and Darrell Smith get out there.
- 19:41No. Parker Clemens.
- 19:42Find out. Clemens have been banged up.
- 19:44Didn't travel Silas out. We know both he and Clements.
- 19:52Participated in practice on Sunday which is a good thing
- 19:55y'all. But it's right now.
- 19:59Let me let me ask this to what degree they participated is the
- 20:02question, but the fact that they were at least out there doing
- 20:06their thing is at least somewhat encouraging.
- 20:09Okay, let me ask this. Let's say they're both Nick,
- 20:12they could play. But essentially you play them
- 20:16this week, they can get further injured and they'd be out three
- 20:20weeks after this. Is this a week that essentially
- 20:24you put on Vance Vice to say, figure out?
- 20:29Tyrell Brock Hoffman someone else at right tackle because we
- 20:33need to let Silas get 100 because we have a stretch of
- 20:36games starting at Notre Dame that are really going to
- 20:40determine how good this season goes.
- 20:42I mean just in general they need to figure out who their second
- 20:46right tackle is regardless of you know what they end up doing
- 20:51long term. We've got to figure out who our
- 20:55number two, right? Tackle is Because right now, we
- 20:58rotated Brock. We had tyrol Smith in there, I
- 21:00mean, it's been kind of a rotating cast last week, and I
- 21:05don't think either of them had great success especially against
- 21:11West Virginia. So, I'm hoping that we see them
- 21:15have success against what should be a even if they're not
- 21:19necessarily size wise and FCS type opponent in terms of what
- 21:23they are in the trenches. Ability wise.
- 21:27They should be a big step down from what we saw with West
- 21:32Virginia. So we should be able to handle
- 21:34them. Yeah.
- 21:35And to t, oo, SMS point there. It is an all season issue.
- 21:39We talked about it. We I think we still are better
- 21:43than what could have been. We still have at least guys who
- 21:47can I mean? Yes Rock got beat on a couple
- 21:49bad sacks. I mean they look terrible but it
- 21:53wasn't he was whipping every single play.
- 21:57Yeah. I mean he had good snaps and bad
- 21:59snaps. We need to essentially, you
- 22:02know, mitigate the big problems and what you know you can't you
- 22:06can't get beat off the line getting beat.
- 22:10After you make your initial punch, you know you least give
- 22:13your quarterback some time to see the rush potentially a skate
- 22:17you know take care of themselves even if they can't you don't get
- 22:21a situation like Braxton had last week where you know, sole
- 22:26Like by Brock and all of a sudden, he's got a strip sack
- 22:29there in the Red Zone. Well can I ask this?
- 22:32And this goes back again to scheming to offensive coaches.
- 22:37You put a guy out there and on that second side at the the
- 22:40fourth and the fourth downside. Yep.
- 22:44There was no help to his side. No, it was strictly and you're
- 22:48sitting here in. I'm a Layman.
- 22:50When it comes to it and it's like that's brought who's a
- 22:54sinner who I think in player. Right tackle, if you give him
- 22:57enough reps in give enough time, but you're going to go out there
- 23:02on fourth down and give him no help against a guy who has
- 23:06beaten multiple times during the during the game.
- 23:09Yeah, what are you doing? Well, you know, yet, I'll be
- 23:12honest it was a bronze best game, but at the same time he
- 23:14was definitely put in Situation's where he was going
- 23:18to be hard for him to be successful.
- 23:21And, you know, some of that goes back to Vice, not not having a
- 23:24plan B. And some of that goes, Back to
- 23:27this staff in general, not really having what they need in
- 23:32terms of depth, at the offensive line position across the board.
- 23:35And we said that was going to be a problem, right?
- 23:37So we felt better about this offensive line, then we felt in
- 23:41the spring depth-wise. I think we're probably still a
- 23:46little iffy one person's or we're one person.
- 23:50Sure. We meet we again, we said it the
- 23:53whole time we were most shaky at What, our third tackle is going
- 23:58to be and we're still shaking with the third tackle is going
- 24:01to be and it showed significantly, all right?
- 24:03Brian, this was mentioned a couple times.
- 24:07This week, once by Chris Coleman at TSL another, by French over
- 24:13it to keep lay in the question is Braxton Burmeister hurt in
- 24:18some way, we saw it Saturday, there were no read options.
- 24:24There haven't been any read options.
- 24:27For a while, he's still running and sometimes a little bit
- 24:32recklessly when especially that 26 yard run, he put his body on
- 24:36the line and get that. Do you think he's hurting some
- 24:39way or do you think this is what happened at Middle Tennessee?
- 24:45And taking one of the taking a good hit North Carolina.
- 24:48Has essentially had us crawl into a hole with what we're
- 24:51doing with him or do you think he's legitimately hurt?
- 24:55I don't know. At this point, I think it
- 24:58probably has more to do with the latter than the former.
- 25:00I think he probably is banged up.
- 25:03I think he's probably getting treatment on that shoulder from
- 25:06the North Carolina. Hit from the bigger hit against
- 25:08Middle Tennessee, State. So, he's probably getting
- 25:11treatment on it, but I don't think it's necessarily impacting
- 25:14his ability to play the game, but I think the staff is making
- 25:18a pointed choice of taking the read elements out of our offense
- 25:24except On a couple situational calls like on that fourth.
- 25:28And one, we're not calling anything that he's is either a
- 25:32design run or a read option. We've pretty much taking the
- 25:37readout of the out of the Playbook Braxton is just
- 25:40carrying out fakes at this point, he is not actually
- 25:43reading and making a decision to give the ball.
- 25:48So it's going to be interesting to see if we bring some of that
- 25:51back as the season goes along so I'm not sure.
- 25:55If he's hurt or not in terms of limiting his ability but I
- 26:01definitely think he's probably banged up to a point where
- 26:03they're making changes and I'm not, I'm not certain that,
- 26:06that's a good thing because while I want to keep Braxton
- 26:09healthy, you know at some point you're cutting your nose off to
- 26:13spite your face with with limiting a what is a run first
- 26:20quarterback and taking away his greatest asset?
- 26:24It's very true. It's It's very true.
- 26:26And, you know, again, we're although the access has gotten
- 26:30better this year. There's still a lot, we don't
- 26:34know, but to me, it's to your point, the whole, the nose and
- 26:39face thing. If you're protecting him, then
- 26:42you might as well play knocks gave them because he and Knox.
- 26:47You know, passing wise, I would say, on the same level at least
- 26:51with Knox. I mean, Knox is not the athlete
- 26:54fraction is but at least once every 10 jet sweeps or every 10
- 27:00read options, he could pull them down and get six or seven yards
- 27:04where he'd have to respect it. I mean, so they need to make a
- 27:09decision and that decision either, you're going to play
- 27:13with him. Full bore, are you going to
- 27:16bench him? And they have to make that
- 27:19decision because he because, if it is something where they feel
- 27:22like, oh well, he can get hurt more.
- 27:24Well, is it something he could sit three weeks and they be
- 27:26okay. Yeah, because they're, if he's
- 27:29not healthy enough to run the full offense.
- 27:31You need to sit him down. If he if he is, then you need to
- 27:34run the full offense. There you go.
- 27:36Exactly. all right, Brian, once every two years, Other than the
- 27:44Virginia Tech game happens on this Saturday.
- 27:50Golf takes over my main TV. You're on the go baby Ryder Cup,
- 27:56Whistling Straits. I don't know.
- 27:59Who else will be out there watching it.
- 28:01I am a golf nerd. I love it.
- 28:02I literally before we walked in the night, I was watching live
- 28:05from the Ryder Cup seeing all the pairings.
- 28:09It's one of those events. It's like, the Masters for me.
- 28:14It's like several other things. I am going to try to get to in
- 28:17the next 5 to 10 years. Like seriously, probably once
- 28:23all my kids are in school of school age that I can be like,
- 28:28hon, I'm going with some people. I'm going to be back.
- 28:31Love you too. Yeah, I mean it's a it's such a
- 28:34fun event to watch because it's such a individual achievement
- 28:38sport dead like turns into this, like hyper like team atmosphere
- 28:44like team for. It's just such a big switch in
- 28:48the dynamic. That It just fits so awesome to
- 28:51watch. And it's the crowds to, because
- 28:53the yeah, Crowds Are huge, crowds are massive.
- 28:57And even with the Masters, you needed all the big events there
- 29:01can be Roars. Right there can be course.
- 29:03I mean somebody hits an eagle at 13 at Augusta.
- 29:08That's it. Echoes, but at this to me what
- 29:11Ryder Cup is is they literally dropping college football
- 29:14atmosphere on the golf course. We 100,000 people, you know,
- 29:17sustained and you don't usually have that Attic vents and you
- 29:21have an enemy and you have chance and you have, you know,
- 29:25Roars. And you have the guys smack
- 29:27talking, or normally, if Rory, McIlroy, the Euro would sink a
- 29:32birdie putt. He would just walk off the whole
- 29:35tip, his hat. You're a couple years ago and he
- 29:38put that one on top of read the finger way like no, no, it's
- 29:42awesome. So I'm off work Friday.
- 29:47So that's why I'm going to be coming back.
- 29:49It's it tease at 8:30 and want to swing by get big cup of
- 29:53coffee. Probably maybe go to
- 29:54Chick-fil-A, get a nice chicken sandwich or maybe rise, get a
- 29:57nice, big chicken sandwich, and then sitting here.
- 30:02Probably for the better part of nine hours not moving.
- 30:06Well as is the move man. Go to rise as is the move.
- 30:10Go USA. BT Euros now guys tonight before
- 30:15we turn into Know The Enemy, you of our we are going to take a
- 30:19quick pause with a message from our digital Partners.
- 30:23All right, guys, know, the enemy University of Richmond Coast by
- 30:27rush huesemann. They are a top 25 FCS program.
- 30:32RAM have been for a couple years now, just missed the playoffs
- 30:35last year, probably based more on, not playing enough games
- 30:40than actually the record itself. But we're going to kick off
- 30:43tonight with their defense. Crying, you told me they are a
- 30:47425 defense and I remember listening to the pressure on
- 30:50Monday for Wednesday, mentions that five of their defensive
- 30:54lineman's could play for us. Well, did we recruit any of
- 30:57them? Is the first question I have for
- 30:59walk on opportunities, because On the first guy, we talked
- 31:04about tonight defensive tackle, Toby.
- 31:07Turner out of Clifton, Virginia, 63 298.
- 31:10He was a walk-on and Redshirt senior.
- 31:14In his career, 117 tackles 25. Tackles for loss 12 and a half
- 31:18sacks was the 2020 kosyay, a defensive player of the year,
- 31:25From wall gone and now he is getting looked as an NFL
- 31:28prospect to get. Drafted next fall, what are you
- 31:31seeing from this big guy on tape motor guy really good use of his
- 31:38hands. Good job working.
- 31:40Leverage getting off blocks. Usually don't see tackle
- 31:45machines like this at the defensive tackle position and he
- 31:49just he eats things up. So we're going to have a handful
- 31:52with him in the middle. You know, hopefully we end up
- 31:56working out something at tackles so we have, what is probably our
- 32:00are three best combo in there with with Brock.
- 32:03And let's see this and either Caleb rajani at Right Guard to
- 32:08be able to keep him in check if we're if we slide Brock out,
- 32:12then then we're probably getting a little bit thinner in the
- 32:15middle there than I'd like to. So yeah, he's going to be the
- 32:20big player on defense that we've got to watch.
- 32:22He is their game. Talent on the defense.
- 32:26Alright? So again, Kobe Turner number 98,
- 32:30Walk On Turned All-American, turned NFL prospects and keep an
- 32:34eye on him. Alright next, I want to talk
- 32:36about Brian. Let's talk about Darius Reynolds
- 32:39the six foot two defensive end, 250 pounds out of Yorktown 2020.
- 32:45Actually led the CAA and sax. He had like five and four games
- 32:49which we very impressive. He is a 60 or senior.
- 32:54In his career, 93 tackles 19 tackles for loss in 13 sex or
- 32:58really last year. It looked like that was going to
- 33:01be, that's really was his coming out party and he's played pretty
- 33:03solid this year. What are you seeing from Darius?
- 33:05Where is he lined them up for us?
- 33:07Yeah, he definitely turned the edge last year.
- 33:11He's lining up the defensive end.
- 33:14They'll swap sides with those DNS, but he really is kind of
- 33:20their their speed rush to go off the edge that they're bringing.
- 33:24Special on 3rd and 3rd, and long, he's pin.
- 33:26His ears back and coming after the quarterback looks like,
- 33:30like, like you said, he's really seem to turn the corner last
- 33:34year with the spring season into this year.
- 33:36So got to make sure that our tackles are holding up in past
- 33:41Pro. He can't have what we had last
- 33:43week at the right tackle position and really, really both
- 33:47tackles overall didn't have a great game but two new to held
- 33:50up a whole lot better than we did on the right side.
- 33:53Over also, We gotta make sure that we keep him in check and
- 33:57don't don't get Braxton, hit unnecessarily, depending on who
- 34:01starts at right, tackle with Reynolds on, do you think we're
- 34:06going to if he's lining up on the right tackle?
- 34:08Side. Are we going to have to
- 34:09essentially put Gallo over there?
- 34:12Or at least have someone whoever's in the backfield chip
- 34:15every play? Or do you think ever it might be
- 34:18could hold up against his talent level?
- 34:21You know, I'd like to see us at least give that a try.
- 34:24Why? Before before we start sending
- 34:27help that way, it's a pretty decent stress test to see if
- 34:32we're holding up better than we did last week, I'd like to see
- 34:37us be able to. There's no reason that we should
- 34:40not be able to hold up against this defensive line overall.
- 34:44Like I said, Kobe Turner's. Definitely a handful but the
- 34:47other guys are FCS caliber players.
- 34:52So Darius Reynolds is a good. Version of that but you know
- 34:56there's still a cap there got it.
- 35:00Alright Braun, you know, we looked at the d-line really not
- 35:04going to look at the secondary tonight because I think the two
- 35:06guys in the Middle with what we've been doing on offense or
- 35:12the guys, we've got to look at and what we're looking at, is
- 35:14the linebackers. We're going to start with number
- 35:1541, Tyler Dressler. At a Covington, Virginia's 63.
- 35:19245 was an all see a linebacker last year in His career 182,
- 35:26tackles 18, tackles for loss, six sacks and an interception.
- 35:30The brine is he looking at? This are my course.
- 35:33This are more backer PSI position.
- 35:37Dressler is more than Mike in the next guy.
- 35:40Will talk about Tristan wheeler is more of the backer Dressler
- 35:45does a good job of getting off blocks and making tackles when
- 35:49they need to in the running game.
- 35:51Neither of them are great in terms of their coverage.
- 35:56So that's going to be an area where we can take advantage.
- 36:00But, but dressler's, definitely the going to be the harder in
- 36:02terms of handling the blocks inside the tackles.
- 36:05All right. Any any any liabilities and
- 36:08coverage is this where we should take advantage of a Dressler?
- 36:12Yeah, I mean really, like I said, both of these linebackers
- 36:14both, Tyler Dressler and Tristan wheeler are I'd say, just
- 36:18average at Best in coverage, that's where I think.
- 36:21Should attack them. And in general, I think we need
- 36:24to get really everybody across the board involved in the, in
- 36:28the passing game this week, and hopefully, we can kind of work
- 36:32ourselves into a little more of a Groove there.
- 36:34Little T's there, a little tease for, what's coming up later in
- 36:38the Hokies gamma version, that's at ease.
- 36:41Ladies and gentlemen, that is a tease.
- 36:43Alright? Next guy, I want to talk about
- 36:46this guy actually, really impressive.
- 36:49You already mentioned named Tristan wielder number. 30
- 36:52linebacker, Bethlehem PA six 2228, all first, see a first
- 36:57team last year in his two-year career, hundred sixty seven,
- 37:00tackles six tackles for loss. One sec, two forced fumbles.
- 37:042019. You is the CAA Defensive Rookie
- 37:07of the Year and he was also one of the final, one of the 20
- 37:11finalists for the rights award. The rice award is given to the
- 37:15top FCS freshman. In 2019, It Was Won by trade.
- 37:21Lance. I'm very familiar with him.
- 37:23He's a helluva. Just a this guy was a finalist
- 37:27in. You know, you think about us CS
- 37:29there's well over 100 Schools. And there's only 20 name to the
- 37:34file has, he was one of them and those that's in a couple of
- 37:37years. Ryan he is, you know, he might
- 37:40not be much in coverage but he can tackle.
- 37:42Yeah, he can definitely tackle. He makes a lot of good plays and
- 37:45he doesn't miss a lot of tackles.
- 37:46I think that's the big thing is that he does good there and he
- 37:49does a good job of cleaning up kind of the spill area when it
- 37:53when he has that kind of edge responsibility there.
- 37:56So he does really good at getting off the blocks as well.
- 38:00Similar to Dressler, but does not.
- 38:02But he's still kind of a liability and coverage, so
- 38:04hopefully we can take advantage of of him there.
- 38:08And like I said that, I want to see us do a little bit more with
- 38:11that so we'll see how that goes. Alright.
- 38:13Right now I'm looking here, there are a couple guys that you
- 38:17want to talk about in the secondary.
- 38:20And the first one here that we're looking at is six foot
- 38:22two, Amar Hall at a Baltimore Maryland but obviously younger
- 38:28guy out of Maryland. Play four games.
- 38:32Spring in ranked fourth on the team in tackles, which is pretty
- 38:36impressive for a younger guy, especially defensive back
- 38:39position. What are we seeing from him
- 38:44Ryan? So this is kind of like what we
- 38:48were talking about with some of the safety play last year last
- 38:51week with West Virginia is that he makes some good plays here
- 38:55and there but he also is prone to some big mistakes so
- 38:59hopefully we can we can take advantage of the mistake.
- 39:02Takes that he will make in the game.
- 39:05Redshirt freshman. I mean, they're still growing
- 39:07pains there, so that kind of makes sense, right?
- 39:10And again the thing I'm focusing on this week is what we can do
- 39:14in the passing game to take some of this, allow the offense have
- 39:20a little bit more space to operate because that's a big
- 39:22problem that we've had, especially early in the West
- 39:25Virginia game. We had early in the Middle,
- 39:27Tennessee, State game. We got tight in the Second, half
- 39:32against UNC. We've got to do something to
- 39:34kind of space. This filled out a little bit
- 39:36more to let this offense start to hum a little bit better.
- 39:39Well, I mean, I think if we take a look at some of the again,
- 39:42those third and fourth quarter route Concepts, if we can start
- 39:45just getting those involved early in the game, whether we're
- 39:48taking shots or not. Yeah.
- 39:50Because how about I'm not saying what either draw back and take
- 39:52shots all day, but I want to see.
- 39:55Oh, yeah. The two guys were talkin about.
- 39:57So Amir Hall, and we're going to talk about Aaron Banks here in a
- 40:00second. Both of them are prone to make
- 40:02mistakes in the secondary. They are solid players but they
- 40:06are prone to make mistakes. That's where we need to.
- 40:08Capitalize. We need to be able to go out
- 40:10there and beat these guys and and put some yardage up on this
- 40:15week. Speaking of an Banks, five foot,
- 40:18eleven hundred eighty pound. Redshirt Junior out of Stephen
- 40:20City career. Just 20, just 32 tackles so
- 40:27obviously, you know, in a four-year career.
- 40:29He's only played 16 games sow. Sparingly, looks like this is
- 40:33his year to start. As a redshirt Junior.
- 40:36You already mentioned it. One time.
- 40:37What sort of errors are you seeing?
- 40:38That he's making like you mentioned with all so him and
- 40:43particular got beat on a couple. Double moves doesn't not have
- 40:47not a very willing tackler. He doesn't do a good job of
- 40:50coming up and making the play tackling as well.
- 40:53So I think we should be able to run at him.
- 40:56I think we should be able to throw at him if he if he work
- 40:58some, some, you know, double move Concepts into the end of
- 41:03the game there. So like a hitch and go or, you
- 41:06know, Sluggo or something like that.
- 41:08All right. Run Houston's known for his
- 41:13defense but just looking at the tape in general, I know you
- 41:16really looked at the Villanova game which I mean guys, they
- 41:21basically had a two-touchdown lead, you know, going into the
- 41:26last two minutes of that game and they lost or one touchdown
- 41:29lead two touchdown lead with nine minutes to play one
- 41:32touchdown lead with two minutes to play and they essentially
- 41:35gave up 21 points and of course of nine minutes, they more or
- 41:39less shut down. Villanova's offense for like
- 41:43three and a half quarters because good, I think 10 of
- 41:48those points the Villanova got early on were on very short
- 41:52Fields. So you know, Richmond did a good
- 41:55job against Villanova for three and a half quarters and then
- 41:57just kind of let that one slip away from them.
- 42:01All right. Well, let's flip over to the
- 42:03offensive side of the ball. Brian and I know there's one
- 42:06offensive lineman you want to talk about that's going to be
- 42:08Tim Coleman out of Stone Mountain.
- 42:11Georgia. He was a transfer from Furman
- 42:14and actually something that you don't see too often a three-star
- 42:19guy, 24/7 and for rival. So he did have some recruiting
- 42:26looked at while he was a recruit.
- 42:29He was a freshman All-American while he was at.
- 42:31I mean then transfers over to Richmond and right now you know,
- 42:36in his career at Richmond, you know, he's played in 29 games so
- 42:41it looks like he's officially. He got there.
- 42:43He was in some sort of role for the last three years in
- 42:46continuing was with his role this year.
- 42:49What are we seeing from this left, tackle on tape, Brian at
- 42:5264 320. He's the most solid and
- 42:55consistent offensive lineman. So really, if we can figure out
- 43:00a way to I get Garbutt on the opposite side of him going and
- 43:06hopefully barno can maybe get some one-on-one situations and
- 43:08still beat him here because, you know, we've seen Garbutt kind of
- 43:13take steady steps here but we need to see.
- 43:15I think the entirety of the defensive line take care of this
- 43:19offensive line. The offensive line overall is
- 43:23that's a average. They're not built like your
- 43:26typical FCS line. Like I said both sides in the
- 43:28trenches. They've got some good size to
- 43:30them. And Tim Coleman is probably the
- 43:34best of the bunch. So if we can show out and show
- 43:36that we can actually get pressure on the quarterback in
- 43:39one-on-one situations against him, I'll feel pretty good
- 43:42about, you know, steps were taking on the defensive line,
- 43:45right? What kind of alternative concept
- 43:47though, are they? So they're kind of like that
- 43:51that power or Smash Mouth spread, they like to run the
- 43:53ball out of the spray Concepts re option but they'll Sling It
- 43:58Down feel as well. Very similar offense to kind of
- 44:03what Ohio State kind of runs. That's what I was trying to say,
- 44:06is this something if we looked at it out of state, this would
- 44:08be. This would be a much lesser
- 44:12version of that. Yeah.
- 44:13It's as kind of a simplified or version of what Ohio State runs.
- 44:18Well, Awesome. All right.
- 44:20Well, let's go get some skill position guys.
- 44:22And I want to start with probably the guy that jumped out
- 44:25the most to me, you know, Aaron Dykes 511, 200, pound running
- 44:30back out of Knoxville Tennessee, you know, so far this year 215
- 44:36yards from scrimmage for four touchdowns and we're facing
- 44:40another stud kick returner that which you did great last week
- 44:44but don't sleep on this guy. Yards and three touchdowns in
- 44:51his career. He's almost averaging 28 or
- 44:53return. He's housed a 98-yard or against
- 44:56Villanova. So this guy's got versatility
- 45:00written all over him. Both in the run, the pass and a
- 45:03special team came. What are you seeing on the tape
- 45:06runs? Yeah, I mean, we're dealing with
- 45:08another versatile running back. Like we were last last week guy
- 45:12that can run between the tackles run outside.
- 45:15Catch the ball in space, make guys, miss not As Elite as Letty
- 45:21was last week but still can do all those type of similar
- 45:24things. So we're going to have to be
- 45:26ready on defense to not only get off blocks and make the tackle.
- 45:31Make sure we're Gap sound but also you know, when we're there
- 45:36in the passing game, you've got to make the tackle, we don't to
- 45:38give him a free run and open space.
- 45:42Alright, now the next thing I'm going to talk about seven Smith,
- 45:48I'm assuming just looking at the data.
- 45:50He's not a pass catcher at all Izzy.
- 45:52No this is definitely kind of short short yardage change of
- 45:56pace, third and long back. If you need a an extra man to
- 46:00block okay and that's the type of player he is for them.
- 46:05All right. Um at a Winchester Virginia, 59
- 46:08200. So obviously talk about power
- 46:10little shorter but the Yeah, these guys that stocky back,
- 46:14that still has that athleticism that little wiggle.
- 46:18Good good. Good Dom, good yards per carry
- 46:20and 5.8 I'm 157 for the year with one touchdown his reception
- 46:26numbers look like I think he's got like nine for like 14 yards.
- 46:29Literally he is the last option I'm going to guess.
- 46:34Yeah. He's very he's very much a dump
- 46:37and if no one else has open type situation, just get get what you
- 46:41can get. It's not, they're not scheming
- 46:43him into the passing game at all.
- 46:46All right, either these guys, obviously, they're not letting
- 46:50brown but not division, one level.
- 46:53But do they do the either one scare you wear.
- 46:56If we, we make an error, they can make us pay for the
- 47:00touchdown. I mean, the big thing is with
- 47:03Dykes when we were there, we got to make the tackle, we can't let
- 47:06him get to the second level and have space to show his
- 47:09athleticism. All right, so that's the big
- 47:12thing. That that's the, that's the area
- 47:15that scares me that if he gets past that kind of second level
- 47:18with a lot of space to run, he's because of his view, he shown
- 47:22the vision in the open field on special teams.
- 47:25He can, he can house a big play. All right, so let's keep an eye
- 47:31on number three are indicts of make sure we don't make any
- 47:37boneheaded assignment mistakes, like we did against WVU, and
- 47:42give them something that we show you, where you need to be, make
- 47:45the tackle, that's it. Alright, let's look at the code.
- 47:49The other skill position, guys. Braun on Isaac brown, one of
- 47:53their big wide outs at a Winchester also serve on Smith's
- 47:57house. Cool teammate.
- 47:59And first year really in a production role.
- 48:02Because in his first 19 games only have forty six receptions
- 48:06in the last three seasons, three games in.
- 48:09He's already a quarter of a way there to hitting his production
- 48:14numbers reception wise, and then he's already at half the yard.
- 48:19So obviously, like most FCS teams, usually your red shirt,
- 48:23juniors, seniors, maybe even a grad transfer We're going to be
- 48:29you know getting their production then not freshman and
- 48:33sophomore. So what are we seeing at Isaac
- 48:36Ryan? I think, Brown is kind of the
- 48:38stick mover for them. He's starting to come on a
- 48:43little bit. Definitely a good outlet for
- 48:46them on third down. Nothing too scary in terms of
- 48:53your deep threats or anything like that, but he's definitely
- 48:57got. We got to keep an eye on to make
- 48:58sure that, you know, we get off the field on third down.
- 49:01All right, so one of those does it look like we'll talk about
- 49:05Mancuso in a few minutes here but is it look like when it is
- 49:08that third and five? Do you are you seeing Mancuso's
- 49:12head to look for him quicker than he's looking for anybody
- 49:15else on the field? I mean, based on the play calls
- 49:18That they're getting, they get, they definitely give him those,
- 49:22you know, get past the stick routes all day Downs.
- 49:26Got it. Alright.
- 49:28Another guy a little bit more of a back story here because it's a
- 49:30division, one Talent Galley, Roy Henley 62 215 out of Pompano
- 49:34Beach. Florida transferred down from
- 49:37EC, you have very minimal production down at ECU for two
- 49:41seasons. Just twenty four receptions in
- 49:4316 games for 264 yards and right now.
- 49:49Seven games with you of are already eclipsed.
- 49:52The yard at 324 couple touchdowns with the same number
- 49:56of receptions. He was a three-star, I High
- 49:59School in. This is one that catches your
- 50:01eye because we always talk about certain States, top 100 players
- 50:05are really good players. He was ranked number 75 in
- 50:09Florida. The year he came out so that
- 50:13probably means he does have some Talent Grime.
- 50:17What is the tape telling you about?
- 50:18Outta style. I mean, tapes telling me he's a
- 50:21pretty good all-around receiver with the ability to get deep and
- 50:26take the top off the defense of time.
- 50:28So he's the one that we want to watch in terms of those big
- 50:32plays. We want to make sure we're not
- 50:34giving up big plays and letting them get open in the back, part
- 50:38of the defensive running free. All right.
- 50:41Let me ask this about it because when you talk about him, getting
- 50:44the big plays are the big, plays him getting there.
- 50:48Or is it more of a high? We're scheming to get him deep
- 50:53because He's not going to feed everybody off the line, but if
- 50:58we can get it, 35 yards downfield.
- 51:02It'll be guys, will be step for step with him.
- 51:05Not right on top of them. It's a little bit of both.
- 51:12He's shown some ability to get open in coverage, but he's also
- 51:17they definitely do a good job of scheming him, open on some of
- 51:20those routes making the safety have to make a choice.
- 51:24And that gives him the ability to run free sometimes.
- 51:29All right. What's give me just give me the
- 51:36two routes that you see the most from them that we have to worry
- 51:40about. I mean we got burned a couple
- 51:44times on it but they like to run the corner with him so and They
- 51:54run dig a lot. So, linebackers got to make sure
- 51:59we're not. Not moving out of our zones.
- 52:02Say cheese got to be able to come up and make a tackle there
- 52:04as well. All right, we're going to look
- 52:07at the tight end now, to Brown. Now this is a tight end.
- 52:11I look at his size and I look at his background.
- 52:16It seems to me, I don't know how this guy didn't wind up at a D1.
- 52:19As preferred walk-on. His name is Conner.
- 52:22Devane number 83, He's six foot five, he's 256 pounds out of
- 52:27Medford, New Jersey. Um, he is considered a redshirt
- 52:31freshman because of the NCAA rule, but he played in every
- 52:35game last year, all four of them, and he's played in every
- 52:40game this year so far. He also played basketball in
- 52:45high school, where, you know, he essentially averaged 18 points a
- 52:49game as a senior. So, so, definitely showing some
- 52:53Lettuce is MM there, and so far this year, first couple games,
- 52:59not a big, not a lot of Statistics, but the last game,
- 53:04Ryan, Reed catches 50 yards. So something happened between
- 53:10the first two games, maybe, because they blew the blue
- 53:13Lehigh. And they bloom Howard out is why
- 53:16he didn't see anything, but what do you see from devaney on tape?
- 53:21He kind of has a that classic tight in frame.
- 53:25He's definitely more of a balance tight end.
- 53:27He's a good blocker, good in in routes, but he's not someone
- 53:33like a joker tight end. It's just out there splitting
- 53:36out lining up all over the field.
- 53:39He's not that type of tight end and you talk about, you know,
- 53:43guys that are playing like lower level college football that have
- 53:48that division. One body?
- 53:51I'll throw this one back at you here.
- 53:54We had a guy, my freshman year at hand and Sydney.
- 53:56Cold Downer ended up in the making game, caught the winning
- 54:01touchdown for us in 2002 transferred from him to City to
- 54:08Clemson and started for them for a year.
- 54:12So you don't, you know, you sometimes see these bigger body
- 54:17guys at these lower level schools and it's kind of crazy.
- 54:20He like that. So he kind of fits that like I
- 54:23said, the classic tight in mold, which is why you see him have
- 54:28some, some big games when those concepts are open and then you
- 54:33see him, you know, almost disappear when they're not.
- 54:36So he's not somebody that they're scheming their offense
- 54:40around, but he's definitely a guy that if he's open he can he
- 54:42can make the catch and do some things with it.
- 54:45Well, that's pretty wild because you know you normally don't see
- 54:49if anything you see. like a You see the D3 guy maybe get up to
- 54:54the FCS level right because of some reason unless they're
- 54:59playing it like Mountain Union or Whitewater.
- 55:03They'll stay there their whole time but you know it's crazy
- 55:08that someone went from D3 to Clemson and mid-2000, Clemson
- 55:12wasn't terrible. They hadn't had that quite dip
- 55:15under Tommy yet. But you know, If you're this guy
- 55:21or if you're other schools and you see the body type and you
- 55:23see what he does, do you think there's going to be some
- 55:26sniffing around? He's a red chair, he's a
- 55:28freshman. He's got for you.
- 55:30He's got multiple years of Eligibility left, you think
- 55:32somebody's going to sneak around to you of ours campus and try to
- 55:36convince him to. Hey, come on over.
- 55:45Yeah, I mean there's that possibility there, but I think
- 55:49he's going to need to show a little bit more than we've seen
- 55:51from so far. But he's got the, he's
- 55:53definitely got the body type. I'd like to see a little bit
- 55:55more production than what we've seen thus far, but he's
- 55:59definitely a guy. You got to keep an eye on just
- 56:01because he does have the ability when he's called upon very nice.
- 56:06All right, last person we're going to look at will be the
- 56:09quarterback and is Joe, Mancuso 64, 215, out of Blairsville
- 56:14Well, Georgia and looked at his 2019 stats, because I feel like
- 56:19getting a full season of SCS, got would be better than trying
- 56:22to go for games. Solid not spectacular through
- 56:26the air 2100 plus yards, 13, touchdowns 10 interceptions.
- 56:32But what got me scared - when I looked at his Russian
- 56:36statistics, thanks 147 yards. Little over four and a half
- 56:41yards per carry 4.7 in touch. Aaron's.
- 56:45So whether he's just using his 64 215 frame to go through
- 56:50people. Or he's got some feet, it scares
- 56:53me because of things that have happened in the past, with
- 56:56Virginia Tech and guys, who can move.
- 56:59Yeah, I definitely hear your concern and I'm going to
- 57:04probably not alleviate it, but I'll at least give it a little
- 57:07bit of a massage here, overall athleticism.
- 57:12He's closer to Sam how than, like Italy.
- 57:14Level players that we've seen in the past.
- 57:17What are that? Being that being said, because
- 57:20of the style of offense that they run, he does get a good
- 57:23number of carries and a lot of times those carries are out of
- 57:27the read option. Where if we aren't being
- 57:30disciplined, he can get a 10 or 15 yard free run.
- 57:34Before we really have somebody there to make a play, so that
- 57:39that's that's where the concern is.
- 57:40So he, you know, overall athleticism.
- 57:43He's not a Bryce Perkins, it. I'm going to run, you know, the
- 57:46big one on you. Ok, but at the same time he is
- 57:52athletic enough where he's going to make plays consistently in
- 57:56the offense and we've got to be able to tackle him and we got to
- 57:59be disciplined and being where we need to be.
- 58:04All right. What about his arm?
- 58:06I mean, I see 10 or sections. The 13, I touch down.
- 58:11That's almost one-to-one. I mean, is he an errant throw
- 58:15guy? Or is it?
- 58:17He's got a good enough alarm where there's Windows, he's
- 58:19trying to squeeze it in there based on their offense.
- 58:25Yeah, I mean, he's definitely got a good arm.
- 58:27I'd say accuracy is about average, but he has the arm that
- 58:31can make all the throws that you want to quarterback to me.
- 58:36All right. Yep.
- 58:37So the big thing, again, similar to last week is to get pressure
- 58:42on him in the pocket and make him get rid of the ball before
- 58:47he's ready. All right.
- 58:49Well let's hope we can do that. And let's go ahead and flip it
- 58:53Ron. Let's get to the hope and Gamma
- 58:55version and we got offense lined up first, but since we're coming
- 58:58off their offense on uplift our defense you just said it get him
- 59:03off a spot. I'm Mari bar know.
- 59:05We both said this, we have not seen him in the stat lines and
- 59:10we really haven't seen them make much of an impact.
- 59:14The last two games. Yep, he has to make an impact.
- 59:18This guy. He's got to get his footing back
- 59:20and make an impact in this game. Yeah, we need to do a good job
- 59:24of getting him ready for this game and ready to make an
- 59:27impact. On the defense.
- 59:29We've seen two games in a row where he's been steady, but he
- 59:33hasn't flashed that ability that we needed and that we got from
- 59:38him against UNC. I don't know whether that's
- 59:41getting tape from UNC and they figured out a way to slow.
- 59:44So some of that down or what it may be, but whatever it is.
- 59:49We need to see the ability that he's flashed last year and the
- 59:53ability that we saw against UNC come out, more consistently.
- 59:59Alright, the next one and we discussed this Sunday at
- 1:00:04nauseam. The first two games was probably
- 1:00:09some of the best tackling games we might have had in the last
- 1:00:12decade. Saturday, not so much.
- 1:00:16Nothing burned us for a touchdown per se, but it kept
- 1:00:19drives going. What do we have to do to clean
- 1:00:23it up? Ron?
- 1:00:27I think the big thing is just, I mean, it's got to be tackling
- 1:00:30and it's got to be consistently being where you need to be, so
- 1:00:33you're not reaching. So we saw on the opening
- 1:00:36touchdown Dax, come in, missed the tackle part of that was
- 1:00:40because someone wasn't in the right position, right?
- 1:00:44So a lot of times missed tackles occur because we're not Gap
- 1:00:49sound. We're not making the right run,
- 1:00:52fits things like that. So so it starts by doing the
- 1:00:56those things, right? And then that kind of can feed
- 1:00:58into making the tackle but another thing that we saw last
- 1:01:02week was a couple plays. I'm going to call out
- 1:01:06specifically tomorrow, Connor on a third down, coming for a kill
- 1:01:11shot. And instead of wrapping up and
- 1:01:14then you don't get the guy to the ground at some point, you
- 1:01:18know, they end up making a play after the fact and that cost us
- 1:01:22a third down conversion there. So, If you're going to go for
- 1:01:26the kill shot, make sure you're wrapping up, too.
- 1:01:29Absolutely Brown. The next thing I'm going to say
- 1:01:33is I can't remember who it was against West Virginia or was on
- 1:01:39West Virginia but after the wall or interception I was watching
- 1:01:44that play back today and if he got out of that little muck
- 1:01:49there was the wall, the defensive line had gotten out in
- 1:01:52front and You know it's one of those things I think now, we're
- 1:01:59so accustomed to the way the offense is working that it's one
- 1:02:04of those like score, we're too close scorpion, old-fashioned
- 1:02:10Beamer ball defensive, touchdown in a key moment.
- 1:02:13And I think that's going to be what we need this week and not
- 1:02:16necessarily to win the football game.
- 1:02:18But just from a mentality standpoint, I'd like to see a
- 1:02:22score defensive touchdown this week, whether it be A scoop and
- 1:02:26score or Pick 6. Yep.
- 1:02:29Something that that the defense kind of was gaining.
- 1:02:34It swag back in the second half. I think something like that
- 1:02:37early could really set the tone for the whole game, you know, we
- 1:02:44haven't had one in a while, you feel like it's coming the way
- 1:02:49the way you've talked about the, you know, sometimes making bad
- 1:02:53judgments. He threw one against Villanova
- 1:02:55and So maybe this is the game, all right, let slip it to the
- 1:03:01offense for on. What do you want to see?
- 1:03:03What's the first thing? You want to see out of the
- 1:03:05offenses week? I want to see better
- 1:03:10matriculating of the offense up and down the field along with
- 1:03:14the ability to hit some big plays.
- 1:03:16Whether in the running game or the passing game, we shouldn't
- 1:03:20be forced off the field. As often as we were against
- 1:03:24Middle Tennessee, State, Against this defense, we need to
- 1:03:28consistently move the football and put points on the board.
- 1:03:32Alright. And you know That's why it's one
- 1:03:37of those things. That's why the second half kind
- 1:03:40of what happened. I want to see more of yeah that
- 1:03:467 6 10 12 because the way you know, you start matriculating
- 1:03:54the ball, the shot start coming the shots you if you want to go
- 1:03:58down field, they're going to be there because there's going to
- 1:04:00be tighter covered job but also They can't come but so far up,
- 1:04:07right? You also get running Lane
- 1:04:09starting to be open because they're not just keying in that.
- 1:04:13They're running the ball, you know, find the Gap and go.
- 1:04:17So it's kind of both ways, right?
- 1:04:19Hit those short passes. I know it's something you really
- 1:04:21want to see Brian because it's one of those things.
- 1:04:26Like if you just can hit some short stuff, easy stuff a you
- 1:04:29get Braxton's confidence up and be you start opening up every
- 1:04:34single. Ghal other thing we do well and
- 1:04:38the life of me, I don't understand why we can't
- 1:04:41Implement that in the game plans early but I'll digress on it.
- 1:04:45Now the second piece brine we talked about it already talking
- 1:04:49about the right tackle situation but we we've got to if
- 1:04:55regardless we need to keep practicing up.
- 1:04:58Right? Yeah we need to keep Braixen
- 1:05:01upright so the passing game can have the effect that we want.
- 1:05:05Did too. And I think that's that's the
- 1:05:07big thing that we need to focus on is is making sure Braxton has
- 1:05:11the time for this offense to function and to get The Passing
- 1:05:16game going. And I think hopefully that will
- 1:05:20get because right now, he looks like some of his drop backs.
- 1:05:23He's kind of got that. That dance and feed in the
- 1:05:27backfield and ready to take off pretty quick.
- 1:05:29And I don't know if some of that is just not having a good feel
- 1:05:32for the pocket, whether it's the injury concern, or whether it's
- 1:05:36just feeling a little shaky about the offensive line, but
- 1:05:40I'd like to see us get into a little more of a Groove there
- 1:05:43this week and hopefully Braxton will play better as a result of
- 1:05:47that. Abso-freakin'-lutely.
- 1:05:50That's really the big key is getting him comfortable back
- 1:05:53there and I know it's one of those things.
- 1:05:56You can say it's easy and whatnot.
- 1:05:59Oh, it's so easy to say, get him comfortable, but the piece
- 1:06:02becomes getting somebody. Comfortable is also getting
- 1:06:06three and five and making them comfortable because it's like
- 1:06:11anything. He gets comfortable at three and
- 1:06:13five eventually. When you go to a seven, if no
- 1:06:16one has been up in his grill at 3 and Five, when he hits that
- 1:06:197-foot, it's not going to be crap.
- 1:06:23Somebody's about to hit me it's going to be.
- 1:06:25Where's Trey? Where's Ted?
- 1:06:26We have the seam open, right? Yep semental.
- 1:06:30It's one of the biggest mental pieces of it.
- 1:06:31That's why you see some of the best guys, you know, of all
- 1:06:36time, you know, they get comfortable oil.
- 1:06:39And next thing, you know, they hit that 7-foot my guys are
- 1:06:42holding up for me. I'm not going to get to it.
- 1:06:45So yeah, all right. Last piece Brian.
- 1:06:50The show us. He's not injured.
- 1:06:53Let's put the read back in read option.
- 1:06:57Yeah, that's that's an absolute must and we talked about it
- 1:07:02earlier. It's not so much that We want to
- 1:07:07see the quarterback, have a ton of carries.
- 1:07:09We don't want to have the quarterback have unnecessary
- 1:07:12carries, but the point of the read option is To let the
- 1:07:18quarterback, keep the football when it is schematically,
- 1:07:23correct to do. So meaning that he will have
- 1:07:25some degree of free run to get some yardage and still have the
- 1:07:30ability to get down. If he needs to, I got, I don't
- 1:07:32want him. Taking unnecessary hits, but at
- 1:07:35the same time, the way this offense functions, we cannot
- 1:07:40take the Reeds out of the read option because it comes a very
- 1:07:43generic offense, without that element to it.
- 1:07:47Very true and the read option. Same way, get a little RPO going
- 1:07:51right, you get Al RPO, you're holding the end, you're holding
- 1:07:54the linebackers lanes. Are opening up again by not
- 1:07:59having it in teams are just saying, well, they're going to
- 1:08:03hand it off. Crash the line.
- 1:08:06Drop back into your Zone. Find the Gap.
- 1:08:09It's it's, it's we're simplistic were basic.
- 1:08:17And, you know, sometimes the way we run our offense in general,
- 1:08:22it looks too vanilla and it makes you be honest.
- 1:08:26It makes you question. How big is this Playboy?
- 1:08:29Yeah, and it needs to be bigger than what it is right now
- 1:08:34because it's way too easy for the coordinators, the key
- 1:08:39without having Superior Talent. Yep.
- 1:08:44I think that's the big thing is that, you know, without Out
- 1:08:47there still the threat there for Braxton to run.
- 1:08:49Just because We are carrying out the fake so they've got an
- 1:08:53honor. It but pretty much the only
- 1:08:57person honoring it now is that re Defender, right?
- 1:09:01No, but nobody else on the defense is really caring about
- 1:09:04whether Braxton keeps it or not. You know, the, your DN is doing
- 1:09:09their squeeze and pop technique and outside of that, nobody's
- 1:09:13really focusing on it because we haven't shown that we're going
- 1:09:16to run it to any any degree of frequency, right?
- 1:09:20Know what do we have in training?
- 1:09:23His Ryan has been some scrambling in in the thing.
- 1:09:27He said, like he's had a couple design runs that were all the
- 1:09:31way quarterback designer, runs quarterback Powers with gay guys
- 1:09:37significantly smaller when you have a perfect option to bring
- 1:09:40Off the Bench. Let's not even get into that
- 1:09:43because we'll get real pissed. You know like you have a guy on
- 1:09:47the bench again, do this? Just let him do that job.
- 1:09:50Alright bun, we've talked the enemy.
- 1:09:53Me we've called the version. We want to see this week of the
- 1:09:55Hokies. Let's make our predictions here
- 1:09:57man. And if I have chosen your know,
- 1:10:02I would still be on the show. So ha ha ha.
- 1:10:11First of all, being in Richmond, we hear a lot about Richmond.
- 1:10:15We know more about them. And are they a good team?
- 1:10:18Yes. But this is not the Richmond
- 1:10:20from the early or the Thousands that were built under Clawson,
- 1:10:24and London, coached up. This isn't the one who can beat
- 1:10:28it for national championship and knocked off UVA.
- 1:10:31They're a good team, but they're not good enough to defeat at the
- 1:10:34division. One level, I think this is going
- 1:10:37to be similar to Middle Tennessee.
- 1:10:39I think we might start a little faster, but probably not fast
- 1:10:42enough for us as fans. I'm going to go 3413
- 1:10:47comfortable, threescore win, Okay, I'm come very close to
- 1:10:54that. I'm actually going about a
- 1:10:56touchdown more than you on the Hokey side there.
- 1:10:58I'm going 4213, I see this as being.
- 1:11:06This is going to go like Middle Tennessee, if the Hokies
- 1:11:09actually woke up in the first quarter, all right?
- 1:11:13They actually, they actually played as if the first quarter
- 1:11:15was a thing. So we at least put points up in
- 1:11:18the first quarter. Probably not as fast of a start
- 1:11:22as we'd like, but still a lot better than what we saw against
- 1:11:25Middle, Tennessee, pour it on late.
- 1:11:28Get some of the second string, guys in there.
- 1:11:31And I think that's going to be important, too, because we know
- 1:11:33that sea, Because death is depth of such a big, big problem for
- 1:11:39us. Right now, the more reps we can
- 1:11:40get against live competition, the better we're going to be
- 1:11:42that that starts at quarterback getting knocks more reps this
- 1:11:46week. You know especially if Braxton
- 1:11:49is truly nursing some sort of injury and we might need knocks
- 1:11:52at some point later in the season.
- 1:11:54I want to see more offensive line rotations.
- 1:12:00Figure out what the fuck you want to do at right tackle some
- 1:12:05of the week. This is the week figure out who
- 1:12:08the third tackle is. And I mean, I'd say on on
- 1:12:14defense get some of those young guys on the defensive line, some
- 1:12:17reps because we're going to need them long term as well, just get
- 1:12:22on the rise because the way things look you could be short
- 1:12:25next year. Just the way we recruited and
- 1:12:28everything. So yeah.
- 1:12:30So we are we are back to our ways of both picking the Hokies
- 1:12:34to win. And in a I would say impressive
- 1:12:38but three touchdown plus fashion for both.
- 1:12:40Yeah, all right. Ron time for Saturday.
- 1:12:43Pickles here. We're going to do ten more
- 1:12:45games. Seven ACC three out of
- 1:12:47conference. Brian is as MIT as bit can be
- 1:12:52blown it. So, let's see what happens this
- 1:12:56week. And let's start on Friday night,
- 1:12:58Braun just up the road here. It's 64.
- 1:13:02Wake Forest versus UVA. Wake coming off a 35-14 win over
- 1:13:08FSU. The VA scored more than 35, but
- 1:13:13still lost by 20 to you and engine got 39.
- 1:13:17So, shake your head on that one. Since you are the leader in the
- 1:13:22house. Are you taking on this one?
- 1:13:26Man, this this one I've been struggling with dude.
- 1:13:31I like wake top-to-bottom better.
- 1:13:34I like uva's offense. The question is going to be is
- 1:13:41wakes defense enough to kind of hold them down enough for wakes
- 1:13:46offense, to do, just enough to pull out the victory because
- 1:13:50it's essentially a pick. I mean, it's a for not quite in
- 1:13:53the pickup zone. I'll take UVA and lay the
- 1:14:04points. You're going to take Eva and lay
- 1:14:06the points. All right, Brian after seeing
- 1:14:11that game last week, where they didn't, the bigger part of last
- 1:14:16week was this they were playing UNC without three starters on
- 1:14:22the offensive line without three starters, UNC didn't have to
- 1:14:28punt. Yep.
- 1:14:30They did not have to punt and the me that would, that's the
- 1:14:34bigger concern. Because you're dealing with fam
- 1:14:37Hartman a veteran quarterback. Yep, we forced a very good
- 1:14:43offense and they solid defense. I think this game is going to be
- 1:14:48high and looking at it right now the or high-scoring looking at
- 1:14:52it right now, the over-under in this game currently Brian is at
- 1:14:5768 and a half, I think. That's too low.
- 1:14:59Dive go over. I think weight gets one
- 1:15:03additional stop and they win this game. 42-38 give me the
- 1:15:10points because I think weights going to pull the road upset
- 1:15:15here in Charlottesville and on a night.
- 1:15:19It'll make me happy. I mean week is a much more
- 1:15:22likeable team than UVA, you know, rivalry aside, all right.
- 1:15:29Another one Friday night to ACC games on Friday night here.
- 1:15:32Ron Syracuse goes out of conference again where they play
- 1:15:36Liberty Liberty in. The dome is a six-point
- 1:15:40favorite. So Malik, Willis and Liberty.
- 1:15:43Get a Are the road favorite so home.
- 1:15:49Team getting points. What are you?
- 1:15:52What am I thinking on this? Yep.
- 1:15:54Um, Liberty so far this year has played Campbell, Troy and ODU.
- 1:16:02Well, ODU is sort of in this year Campbell's, obviously FCS.
- 1:16:08So the only one I look at is Troy and Troy always, you hear
- 1:16:14about them every once in a while, they're pretty good team,
- 1:16:18you know. And they played a tight game
- 1:16:21with Troy. It was a only one by eight
- 1:16:24points. So when I see a home team, the
- 1:16:28funkiness of the Dome getting six, I don't know who wins the
- 1:16:32game outright, but I'm going to take a home team.
- 1:16:34Give me the points. I think Syracuse comes to fight.
- 1:16:39And again, don't know if they're going to win it, but I think
- 1:16:43it's a lot closer game than Vegas things. yeah, I'm with you
- 1:16:49some of the in the points as well and it really just boils
- 1:16:53down to I think with some extra tape now we've got, we got some,
- 1:17:00got some tape on Liberty. Do you like Troy played them
- 1:17:04tough? They're playing in the Carrier
- 1:17:06Dome which is notoriously funky. Yes, I think just those things
- 1:17:13alone, will keep it close and I think it's going to be too close
- 1:17:16for that six. All right, we're both on the
- 1:17:20cues train. All right.
- 1:17:21Brian you do this? When you love BC or hated BC so
- 1:17:24much last week, they pay me to do this week is is a coin flip
- 1:17:28game Mizzou laying one and a half.
- 1:17:32So whoever wins this game and whoever you take it's probably
- 1:17:37going to win. What do you think?
- 1:17:40Yeah. I really don't know what to
- 1:17:44think about this game because I don't think BC is quite the same
- 1:17:47team that they were now that jerk Kovac is is out at the same
- 1:17:54time, they're better than I thought they were going to be at
- 1:17:56least initially I'll take BC here.
- 1:18:01All right, Braun. They burned me last week.
- 1:18:03I'm not going to. I'm not going to defy them
- 1:18:05again. He's not Define them again.
- 1:18:09Brian, I would go with you if BC didn't put up. 220 yards of
- 1:18:17offense. Last week, they won that game
- 1:18:20with a quarterback throwing 34 yards.
- 1:18:24Yep. I I don't know how to figure how
- 1:18:27mizzou's, only a one and a half Point favorite at BC.
- 1:18:30I know BC has a solid defense, but I definitely think is Mizzou
- 1:18:34that defense isn't going to get anything or that.
- 1:18:39Offense isn't going to get anything going.
- 1:18:41So I'm going to take Mizzou. I'll lay the one and a half.
- 1:18:44I think Mizzou wins this one big guy.
- 1:18:46Out two touchdowns, okay, okay. All right, you tell me how this
- 1:18:52is the line on this game? Ha ha ha.
- 1:18:55Hold on. Turning the hat back which is
- 1:18:57this one's confusing. Florida State in Louisville
- 1:19:00Florida State after hanging with Notre Dame, who's Anna last
- 1:19:05second play to Jacksonville. And then going blown out by
- 1:19:07three touchdowns at Wake Forest, this is a home game for them.
- 1:19:12That's great, Louisville played his best game of the year
- 1:19:15against UCLA. GF.
- 1:19:18We was only a two-point favorite.
- 1:19:25Vegas has momentum doesn't matter.
- 1:19:29They're taking Talent over momentum because right now
- 1:19:32Louis, there's no reason like to me this is legal limit
- 1:19:35Louisville. I'm with you, I'm with you 100%
- 1:19:40legal limit Louisville because if if somehow FS you can figure
- 1:19:47out what they're doing which I don't know if they can
- 1:19:51Louisville. Kind of finally found its
- 1:19:52footing last week against. AI mean it's to you're
- 1:19:55essentially telling me just what we will have to win outright and
- 1:19:58I think they will. So yeah, I do too.
- 1:20:03Alright the next one is the stinkiest line of the week.
- 1:20:08Eek. Oh yeah.
- 1:20:09I mean Robbie, if you're listening night with, you're
- 1:20:13probably not. You probably just pulling home
- 1:20:15from the field house down at North Wilkesboro, Clemson - 10
- 1:20:20against NC State. I know Clemson.
- 1:20:26I think that delay game is getting everyone a wrong.
- 1:20:30Look at them, they played an elite defense in Georgia.
- 1:20:34They did move the ball and they weren't stalemated all night.
- 1:20:38No, they screwed themselves a few times, they move the ball
- 1:20:41against Do they screwed themselves?
- 1:20:44And after what we saw from the the fighting Dave Dorn, when
- 1:20:50they went down to Mississippi State and laid a fat old goose
- 1:20:53egg, even though with this game at NC State, I think this is
- 1:21:01gonna be one of those games. Dabo gets everybody riled up and
- 1:21:04I think they win by 14 to 17 points.
- 1:21:09I think it'll probably be an entertaining game to watch.
- 1:21:11I think they pull away late, but I think the 10 points is just, I
- 1:21:14can't, I can't fathom why it's 10 points.
- 1:21:18Yeah, give me. Give me Clemson here to I was
- 1:21:25high on NC State and that AP State game burned me and I have
- 1:21:29not forgiven them for that yet. I don't trust them I don't trust
- 1:21:35them in a matchup where they need to get a win.
- 1:21:41So I'm going to go Clemson here. I think they end up figuring out
- 1:21:44kind of how how that offense is going to look with this new
- 1:21:47Personnel. This is the game where we see
- 1:21:50that come to fruition, like you said Deb, has going to have them
- 1:21:54fully whipped into a lather to play.
- 1:21:57Grass is all for this one. So yeah, I'll take clumps of.
- 1:22:01All right. I don't want to.
- 1:22:07I don't want to. Oh yeah.
- 1:22:11I don't after what happened last weekend.
- 1:22:13Open prediction on this game. You got to man.
- 1:22:20Okay. Next game is Kansas and Duke &
- 1:22:26Duke is Lane 16 points and I sit here and the games that do gets
- 1:22:33a fork. Lock, this isn't be a
- 1:22:35snoozefest. Duke is just burn me.
- 1:22:42Probably different ways, the UNC Charlotte game last week.
- 1:22:47After, you know what, just give me Kansas, at least, Kansas is
- 1:22:53showing some fight under lance out there.
- 1:22:57You know, I think they covered the Coastal Carolina game the
- 1:22:59other week. I don't know if Kansas will
- 1:23:01outright win, but after Duke screaming last few weeks, I'm
- 1:23:04just going to pick against them and tell them right, Kansas So
- 1:23:10you went with them early, you went against them last week,
- 1:23:13you're going to stick against them because they bring it
- 1:23:15again. Eventually they're going to
- 1:23:17lose. You're probably you're
- 1:23:20definitely right. This is not a good dude,
- 1:23:22football team, but they are in a stretch of their schedule where
- 1:23:25they're playing similarly, awful overall talented teams.
- 1:23:33So, This one's tough as well, just because that's 16 is kind
- 1:23:38of right at. You know, kind of where you
- 1:23:41think you might be definitely don't.
- 1:23:43Think Kansas can win this out, right?
- 1:23:46I'm going to go with Duke. Holloman early 17.
- 1:23:52It's a 17-point win until Duke wins or until Jake loses Brown
- 1:23:58on the. He's just going to go against me
- 1:23:59every time like, yeah. I mean, it's worked in my favor
- 1:24:02so far. So I'll just I'll keep that
- 1:24:04train rolling. Exactly.
- 1:24:06All right. Let's ACC game we pick Brian.
- 1:24:09Georgia. Tech, you and see.
- 1:24:12Georgia Tech. Could have pulled the Shocker of
- 1:24:15all Shockers last week. They didn't in the crazy
- 1:24:18lightning field. 9, our game would felt like you would see is
- 1:24:23laying 12 in this game Run. And you know this game it is at
- 1:24:28Georgia Tech. Please think it on this one,
- 1:24:31man. I'll tell you what I'm thinking
- 1:24:34I'm thinking, Georgia Tech has about one.
- 1:24:36Clemson game in them every five games.
- 1:24:39So give me you and see, and laying the points.
- 1:24:45But how often have you been wrong about Georgia Tech in the
- 1:24:47last? You know what, we don't chew.
- 1:24:49Don't talk about these things. Man, we do not discuss Georgia
- 1:24:55Tech History, this podcast. I'm gonna go against you.
- 1:25:03On this. This is the first week where,
- 1:25:07you know however it goes someone's either making up
- 1:25:11significant ground or losing significant ground.
- 1:25:13He said UNC, right? Yeah, I'm going to UNC.
- 1:25:17I think you and sees just going to have a hangover.
- 1:25:20I don't think you score on every single position against the law
- 1:25:25of averages coming into play here Yuan.
- 1:25:28Fang wins this game comfortably like 3121, but Georgia Tech like
- 1:25:35Late, backdoors it so give me Georgia Tech.
- 1:25:38Give me the points. This is, this is like, now, the
- 1:25:42deal. I'll have to go against you.
- 1:25:44Whatever you do with the Georgia Tech man, so Duke in Georgia
- 1:25:49Tech or our new pivot Points, saddle of that.
- 1:25:52All right. All right.
- 1:25:54Let's go to essentially D3, biggest games of the weekend.
- 1:25:59I'm going to go a little out of order here, Brian.
- 1:26:01I got this one at the bottom, but let's look at West Virginia.
- 1:26:04Coming off the big win. In against us last week against
- 1:26:07Oklahoma in Norman. Oklahoma is a 17-point favorite
- 1:26:12and I'm going to say this so far this year, Oklahoma has not
- 1:26:17looked like Oklahoma, they have, they just haven't, you know, you
- 1:26:21look at their games issue. Yes, they're 3 & 0 title 2 Lane,
- 1:26:26we're not going to count Western Carolina.
- 1:26:28I don't know how that game. Got scheduled height wouldn't
- 1:26:30have Braska. Yeah, I think this is the week.
- 1:26:33They blow the doors off slow. Someone because I think West
- 1:26:36Virginia is going to go in there with their heads in the clouds,
- 1:26:38after a huge win, that probably should have been a loss.
- 1:26:43And I think they lose by 28 plus points.
- 1:26:47Give me Oklahoma and lay the 17. Yeah.
- 1:26:53West Virginia treated the game last week like we treated you in
- 1:26:56see. It was like the spectacle of the
- 1:26:59fucking year. So I'm right there with you.
- 1:27:01I feel like Oklahoma is going to finally get into their groove
- 1:27:04offensive ly. And they're going to I'm not
- 1:27:07gonna say blow the doors off, but it could be a three
- 1:27:09touchdown win. All right, now we'll go back to
- 1:27:14the normal order. Let's go back up here.
- 1:27:16This is a very interesting game, the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame
- 1:27:21against Wisconsin. In Chicago at Soldier Field,
- 1:27:25essentially a midpoint between Madison and South Bend kind of a
- 1:27:30cool place to do the game. Wisconsin is a six and a half
- 1:27:34Point favorite Obviously, you know, we know about the Irish
- 1:27:39has close call Florida, State close call with Toledo and you
- 1:27:47know, Wisconsin, one in one out, the gate Notre Dame off a solid
- 1:27:54win against Purdue Purdue. Looks like a better team this
- 1:27:58year with Brom And Wisconsin, you know, they played Eastern
- 1:28:03Michigan and they play Penn State.
- 1:28:08What are you thinking on this one Brian?
- 1:28:09Because this is one with six and a half, they're saying the
- 1:28:13Wisconsin that we saw that against Penn State is eventually
- 1:28:17going to punch it in but they don't score 34 against Eastern
- 1:28:20Michigan. Yeah, it's is a weird one
- 1:28:25because I feel like you know the loss to Penn State looks
- 1:28:29probably a little bit better now than it did at the gate that
- 1:28:33said you kind of late a little bit of an egg overall against
- 1:28:37Eastern Michigan. Even though you came away with
- 1:28:38the wind Irish, Look like they were sleepwalking through two
- 1:28:43games, feel like they put a little bit together.
- 1:28:47Last week still not playing quite to the level that you
- 1:28:52think they should. Yeah I'm going to take Irish and
- 1:29:01the points. I feel like it's going to be a
- 1:29:05tight. One down the stretch.
- 1:29:07It's gonna look a lot look really similar to Kind of how
- 1:29:13the Wisconsin Penn State game went.
- 1:29:16Yeah, I'm with you. I'm going to definitely take
- 1:29:18hours in the points up because I think I think Notre Dame is
- 1:29:20going to win the game outright. I think a neutral field is going
- 1:29:25to be the biggest difference there with the split housework.
- 1:29:29This was in Madison at six and a half.
- 1:29:31I think I'd be taking Wisconsin here, but also one of those two,
- 1:29:36I don't want Notre Dame to lose until October 9th.
- 1:29:41So yeah, you begin with we got a little comment here.
- 1:29:44Early thoughts on how we match up against Notre Dame.
- 1:29:49Well, if it's the Notre Dame has been sleepwalking.
- 1:29:51The first three weeks I like our chances.
- 1:29:55But they've got two games back to back for us to sort of wake
- 1:29:58up. I mean, they've got obviously
- 1:30:00Wisconsin this week and then, you know, next week, I think
- 1:30:05it's the USC game that in Cincinnati.
- 1:30:08So they're playing two very good opponents.
- 1:30:10Leading into Virginia Tech to wear even if they lose one of
- 1:30:15these two games, they're probably going to get this
- 1:30:18probably going to be enough good film out there where they're
- 1:30:20going to start to make some adjuster Yeah, the only thing
- 1:30:25I'm saying is that, you know, we get Fuente with the by good
- 1:30:29work, he's looked good off buys and he's looked awful off by.
- 1:30:33So I really don't know what that bodes for us.
- 1:30:38That being said, if, if they still are struggling with past
- 1:30:45Pro and blocking scheme overall, by the time we get to that game,
- 1:30:50I think will do. Alright, on defense it It's
- 1:30:52going to be which somewhat whole field offense, can can get
- 1:30:58enough points on the board to get the win because it's going
- 1:31:02to be. I think a defensive struggle
- 1:31:04both ways so race to 20. They gave us right now.
- 1:31:09It's a race to 20. And the question is does Chris
- 1:31:13Tyree break one for them? Or does someone like tray or
- 1:31:17Tay? Or even hanging take like a
- 1:31:19screen or a quick pass to the house against them.
- 1:31:22Yep. And that would be a difference
- 1:31:24in the game. All right, one more game to
- 1:31:26pick. Brian Arkansas versus Texas A&M.
- 1:31:31Definitely probably the biggest ranked match up of the week.
- 1:31:34Because obviously you know, if you didn't know going next week,
- 1:31:41it's a really big week for Texas A&M so kind of back-to-back big.
- 1:31:47We could them. That all comprar.
- 1:31:49But am is sitting on the precipice there.
- 1:31:53A couple weeks away from Alabama.
- 1:31:56And if they get through Arkansas, since Mississippi
- 1:31:59State, Arkansas has kind of been the surprise darling.
- 1:32:05Look for this year. Arkansas is getting five and a
- 1:32:10half points. And am the quarterback was
- 1:32:15supposed to start as out. I think it's too many points to
- 1:32:18give with the backup quarterback.
- 1:32:20In, they've already proved when they went to Colorado.
- 1:32:23They struggled with out and they won that game by three points.
- 1:32:26It easily could have been a loss.
- 1:32:30So, give me Arkansas. I don't know who's going to win.
- 1:32:34I do say this, looking at the over-under in that game over.
- 1:32:38Unders 48, take the under. Yep, if the way pendant.
- 1:32:42Likes to try to slow down a game where he likes to run the ball
- 1:32:44think of him back at Georgia. I think the unders going to hit
- 1:32:48and I'll take Arkansas and points.
- 1:32:53I know we're agreeing a lot here down the stretch, but I agree
- 1:32:56with you 100%. I think it's gonna be a game
- 1:33:00that gets slowed down by the by the consistent running attack.
- 1:33:04And I think that with am having a backup quarterback, that you
- 1:33:08don't see the, the big plays and the consistent drives that you
- 1:33:12would get from a, from that quarter bag.
- 1:33:14It's going to be kind of a slog at times even though there is
- 1:33:17the potential there for some of those plays to hit.
- 1:33:21Someone will take Arkansas in the points as well.
- 1:33:24Yeah. And if you just wondering about
- 1:33:28Arkansas their 16th in the country and in rushing offense,
- 1:33:33you know, and and elms. Decent.
- 1:33:37Giving them about 162 yards a game.
- 1:33:39But again it's the am scheduled us far.
- 1:33:42The am schedule of Kent State Colorado and New Mexico.
- 1:33:46Like they have to show up at least with Arkansas.
- 1:33:49We can say the win over Texas, whether you like Texas or hate
- 1:33:54Texas, you know, there's Talent there.
- 1:33:57Yeah, I think that's the difference in Pig sooie.
- 1:34:01All right, Brian, anything broken.
- 1:34:04The last hour and a half, since we've been on here, nothing that
- 1:34:08I've seen, you know, we're going into this week, a lot of this
- 1:34:13week, either wraps up most of the out of conference either
- 1:34:16this week or next week. So we'll be starting to move on
- 1:34:20to full-on conference competition here soon.
- 1:34:24I know we still got Notre Dame on on tap there, but more or
- 1:34:27less. We're kind of moving into the
- 1:34:29meat of conference play here. Going up.
- 1:34:31So looking forward to more ACC talk here and seeing some how
- 1:34:37some of these Coastal matchup shake out as we move forward
- 1:34:40because we still got a shot here in the coastal.
- 1:34:42So got to make the most of it. Exactly.
- 1:34:47The one that we should talk about is here is in this is from
- 1:34:50earlier today, the Ross Dellinger, layoffs expansion
- 1:34:53model. Maybe that'll be our off week
- 1:34:56discussion next week we'll get on that's Wednesday.
- 1:34:59Talk about this model right here and then pick some games.
- 1:35:03So yeah, there we go. But guys, that is going to wrap
