- 0:10Speaker 1: beautiful Atlantic City. It's the Boy and Tony Foolsco. Show
- 0:16Speaker 1: Much Madness Special Edition as always Polly Foolsco here with
- 0:23Speaker 1: Tony Foolsco. And we got a beautiful, big crowd in
- 0:27Speaker 1: front of us, don't lots of sands, great set up here.
- 0:31Speaker 1: We want to thank corporate sponsors over at Bally's here,
- 0:35Speaker 1: and you know we got some wings not chose they
- 0:37Speaker 1: put out for us. And of course we got the
- 0:40Speaker 1: energy of the tourney in the air. It's almost here.
- 0:43Speaker 1: You know. We came to play some bets because hey,
- 0:46Speaker 1: we don't even need to know the seats, Tony Dooty,
- 0:48Speaker 1: we know who's winning this whole thing, and we're gonna
- 0:51Speaker 1: we're gonna tell you secrets with you today. Thank you,
- 0:57Speaker 1: Thank you. Now, quick about last week's we had Jeff Perlman,
- 1:02Speaker 1: the writer. He's like, what a terrible booking that was?
- 1:06Speaker 1: You know, he writes books for a living. He's a
- 1:09Speaker 1: literal bad booking. Literally, I blame him and our so
- 1:12Speaker 1: called producer there, Yeah, we agree, but you know, keep
- 1:17Speaker 1: it down trying to do a show here. Thank you. Anyway,
- 1:20Speaker 1: this week we have this guy, so called college basketball expert,
- 1:24Speaker 1: Doug Gottlieb, Fox Sports guy and the people. You know,
- 1:28Speaker 1: this brings us to one of the sad realities of
- 1:30Speaker 1: the business that we happen to work in, right, Tody.
- 1:33Speaker 1: You know, in sports talk, you'd think that these people
- 1:37Speaker 1: would know how to play sports, you know, like we do.
- 1:39Speaker 1: You know, you got coultered steven A. They're all blabbing
- 1:42Speaker 1: about sports when they Navy never even play. Yeah, you know,
- 1:46Speaker 1: we everybody knows we are accomplished athletes. We got eleven
- 1:50Speaker 1: flag football titles in the Spruce Street Direct League, you know,
- 1:53Speaker 1: won several but butttorneys. But you know, we don't want
- 1:57Speaker 1: the brag. Don't like the brag, of course. But anyway,
- 2:00Speaker 1: this guy got leave. He goes around acting like he's
- 2:03Speaker 1: an expert because he played college ball at Oklahoma State
- 2:06Speaker 1: and Notre Dame. Well, uh, Tony, we did our research here. Yeah,
- 2:11Speaker 1: we checked out his stats and people, wait until you're
- 2:14Speaker 1: here what we're gonna throw at him? Yeah, he's getting exposed. Yeah,
- 2:18Speaker 1: you're not gonna believe it till you believe it. But first,
- 2:22Speaker 1: hold on, Tony, this is some old woman over there
- 2:25Speaker 1: giving me the stink guy what are you looking at.
- 2:27Speaker 1: We're trying to do a show over here. Oh we're
- 2:30Speaker 1: disturbing you. You're disturbing us. Just focus on your penny slots, lady.
- 2:35Speaker 1: Maybe you'll win two cents. Yes, sorry, we're not the
- 2:37Speaker 1: merv Griffin Show. Look, we're not gonna let that bag
- 2:40Speaker 1: of bones kill our momentum because we've got a big
- 2:42Speaker 1: show and we're gonna kick it off with our segment
- 2:45Speaker 1: where we go over everything we got right, because we
- 2:47Speaker 1: got nothing wrong as usual again, So here we go
- 2:51Speaker 1: where Polly and Tony were right, Where Polly and Tony
- 2:55Speaker 1: were right. Huge news out of Dallas, the cow our
- 3:00Speaker 1: Boys are signing Dak Prescott to a four year, hundred
- 3:03Speaker 1: and sixty million dollar deal, one mill guaranteed. And we
- 3:09Speaker 1: got to say, what a great smart signing by the Cowboys.
- 3:12Speaker 1: Here credit where it's the right. If we always said,
- 3:14Speaker 1: don'ty the best time to pay a franchise quarterback is
- 3:19Speaker 1: right after he suffered a catastrophic injury. You know you
- 3:22Speaker 1: want to pay them the big money there because this
- 3:24Speaker 1: way they can get the injury fixed and fixed. Well, yeah,
- 3:29Speaker 1: that's the smart way of doing things, because, as we know,
- 3:33Speaker 1: healthcare is not cheap. But it isn't. Then you know,
- 3:35Speaker 1: other teams in the past, they should have been doing this, right, don'ty. Yeah,
- 3:38Speaker 1: I remember when we were watching Bo Jackson on the
- 3:41Speaker 1: Raiders and then he dislocated his hip. The first thing
- 3:45Speaker 1: we both said. We looked at each other and go, oh,
- 3:48Speaker 1: somebody's about to get paid. But the Raiders didn't pay him,
- 3:52Speaker 1: and that was a huge mistake. If they had just
- 3:55Speaker 1: given him the two hundred million dollars necessary to build
- 3:58Speaker 1: a brand new buy on a hip, he'd probably still
- 4:01Speaker 1: be playing today. Great point, Tony, where Paul and were right.
- 4:07Speaker 1: We've always been saying NBA players should not play in
- 4:11Speaker 1: the All Star Game and risk injury. And then you
- 4:15Speaker 1: know what happened last week is Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons.
- 4:18Speaker 1: They're taking heat because they had to sit out the
- 4:21Speaker 1: game because they may have been exposed to COVID. Well,
- 4:24Speaker 1: we've been saying that's the smart move. Yeah, they were small. Yeah,
- 4:28Speaker 1: they found a way to get out of the game.
- 4:30Speaker 1: You know, in fact, when you're looking at it, Tony,
- 4:33Speaker 1: all the players should have tried to get COVID because
- 4:36Speaker 1: they could arrested during the All Star break, right, get
- 4:39Speaker 1: those antibodies, so the time the playoffs roll around, they're
- 4:43Speaker 1: ready to go. Yeah. And you could even see during
- 4:46Speaker 1: the game the players were all shooting threes from half
- 4:49Speaker 1: court because they didn't want to get too close to
- 4:52Speaker 1: each other and catch COVID. That was a bad move
- 4:56Speaker 1: by them, absolutely stupid. Where Paully and Tony, who were right, Okay,
- 5:03Speaker 1: we're gonna go ahead and give ourselves a preemptive right here.
- 5:07Speaker 1: Because as you all know, Tony is an expert in bracketology.
- 5:11Speaker 1: He took a night class at the Philly Community College
- 5:14Speaker 1: back in September, and he has made his pick for
- 5:17Speaker 1: this year's tourney. Go ahead, Tony, by my estimations, the
- 5:23Speaker 1: clear favorite as Rutgers. As I learned in my night class,
- 5:28Speaker 1: which was taught by Joe Lenardi's cousins neighbor, all you
- 5:32Speaker 1: have to do is look at the roster and spott
- 5:36Speaker 1: a name you recognize. Rutgers has Ron Harper Jr. Son
- 5:42Speaker 1: of the legendary Ron Hopper who won five NBA champion ships. Bo.
- 5:49Speaker 1: That's all you need to know. No further explanations or
- 5:52Speaker 1: details required. That class was four hundred and fifty dollars
- 5:58Speaker 1: well spent where PAULI were right, all right, last one.
- 6:02Speaker 1: You know, people, we don't like to air our personal
- 6:05Speaker 1: laundry on this show. But the other day, you know,
- 6:08Speaker 1: we saw the news. You saw it too, Skip Bayless,
- 6:11Speaker 1: who has no athletic talent unlike us, he never played
- 6:15Speaker 1: a sport in his life. Yeah, he signed a thirty
- 6:19Speaker 1: two million dollar deal to keep talking sports on Fox Now. People.
- 6:24Speaker 1: If Skip Bayless got thirty two million dollars, you've got
- 6:28Speaker 1: to imagine what we are worth. When we saw news
- 6:31Speaker 1: of this deal, we immediately dialed up our broadcast partners.
- 6:35Speaker 1: We got him on the phone, Apple and Spotify, and
- 6:37Speaker 1: we demanded that they give us a hundred million dollars, right, donty. Yeah.
- 6:43Speaker 1: I sent them a link to the Skip Bayless article,
- 6:46Speaker 1: and I told them, if we don't get a hundred
- 6:49Speaker 1: million before the end of the month, we're pulling the
- 6:52Speaker 1: plug and we're walking yep. And well, you know, we'll
- 6:55Speaker 1: just have to find some other way to bring you
- 6:57Speaker 1: people the podcast instead of giving away our brilliance feed
- 7:00Speaker 1: on such a low price there anyway, Hold on that lady,
- 7:04Speaker 1: she's still giving us a stink guy over here, Hey,
- 7:07Speaker 1: book away, you old bag lady. This isn't a library.
- 7:10Speaker 1: Just focus on your penny slots. Yeah, and because and
- 7:13Speaker 1: make enough money so when they bury you in two days,
- 7:17Speaker 1: you have somewhere to go. Yeah, so you have family
- 7:19Speaker 1: could help pay for the expenses. Anyway, don't mind her
- 7:23Speaker 1: Tony because you know our guest that's coming on the line,
- 7:26Speaker 1: So let's get him on the full Skool Satellite network
- 7:30Speaker 1: satellite alright. This guy considered one of the leading voices
- 7:36Speaker 1: in sports talk, you know, specifically in college basketball, second
- 7:39Speaker 1: to us, of course, hosts his own show on Fox
- 7:42Speaker 1: Sports Radio, does the games on fs WANT though also
- 7:45Speaker 1: played college both way back in the day. We'll get
- 7:47Speaker 1: into that anyway. Doug Gottlieb, welcome to the show. Hey,
- 7:51Speaker 1: you guys doing good. You know, before we get into
- 7:55Speaker 1: things here, you know we have two very trusted sources
- 7:58Speaker 1: who used to work on the Herd, you know, Call
- 8:00Speaker 1: and Goward Show. They told us a couple of years back,
- 8:03Speaker 1: you guest hosted when Colin was on vacation, and you
- 8:07Speaker 1: wanted to do a segment where it was a Herd hierarchy.
- 8:10Speaker 1: But instead of ranking NFL teams, you ranked fruit. Is
- 8:15Speaker 1: this true? And if so, what the hell were you thinking?
- 8:19Speaker 1: Of course it's true. Um, the show before the show
- 8:23Speaker 1: is actually better than the show without her. Most people
- 8:25Speaker 1: who have been on the show know that right where
- 8:28Speaker 1: you talk about topics than some point, at some point
- 8:31Speaker 1: one of us has a d D, and we all
- 8:33Speaker 1: have a d D on some level. So it kicks
- 8:35Speaker 1: in and we try and find something far more entertaining
- 8:38Speaker 1: than what we'd actually talked about on the show. And
- 8:41Speaker 1: we've done bagel hierarchy, salt bagel, by the way, completely underrated.
- 8:46Speaker 1: We've done dessert hierarchy, and we've done fruit hierarchy. True
- 8:50Speaker 1: hierarchy is picture you do realize you don't work on
- 8:52Speaker 1: the food channel. You know that, just so you know,
- 8:55Speaker 1: you know. And by the way, we heard Coward was
- 8:57Speaker 1: so upset what you did do a show. He almost
- 8:59Speaker 1: flew from the ski loft he was staying at to
- 9:02Speaker 1: stop you, so almost almost almost. He's like, yeah, should
- 9:07Speaker 1: somebody was feeding him grapes and massaging him at the time,
- 9:10Speaker 1: and he was like, I almost I almost got out
- 9:12Speaker 1: of my play show. Parks Park, Park City is state.
- 9:15Speaker 1: You're lucky that massou stopped him, And yeah, alright, let's
- 9:18Speaker 1: get to you. Let's get to you. Back back alright,
- 9:21Speaker 1: enough enough, let's talk about you. You played college basketball
- 9:25Speaker 1: back in the late nineties early two thousand's. Now, you know,
- 9:28Speaker 1: just for reference, we went we printed out your status.
- 9:33Speaker 1: Oh yeah, yeah, let's just look these over your final
- 9:36Speaker 1: season free throw percentage percent quiet, I'm trying to talk
- 9:41Speaker 1: you three point percentage eighteen percent. So the question we
- 9:48Speaker 1: have for you with, um, how do you call yourself
- 9:51Speaker 1: a basketball expert when you can't even play? Uh, it's
- 9:56Speaker 1: a good point. Um, We're I trying to how my son.
- 10:00Speaker 1: It's like, look, I wouldn't have gotten to that point
- 10:03Speaker 1: if I couldn't shoot at all. It's just you know,
- 10:05Speaker 1: the power of the mind. But we want a lot
- 10:08Speaker 1: of games, and I played a lot of those minutes
- 10:10Speaker 1: at one games. So maybe there's more to wo than
- 10:12Speaker 1: just how many how often you put Yeah, I guess, uh,
- 10:16Speaker 1: I guess your teammates. That's the thing. Your teammates were
- 10:18Speaker 1: more to your game helping save you. There you go, exactly,
- 10:23Speaker 1: it's a very fair point. I had. I had incredible teams. Clearly,
- 10:28Speaker 1: if you even won one game with those stats. Anyway, Look,
- 10:31Speaker 1: we're gonna talk attorney right now, and I gotta tell
- 10:33Speaker 1: you before we get into this Tony here, he took
- 10:36Speaker 1: a night class in bracketology at the local community college here,
- 10:39Speaker 1: so just so you know, he knows his stuff, all right,
- 10:42Speaker 1: So we're gonna get your pick, and then Tony's picked. So, Doug,
- 10:45Speaker 1: you first, Who's going to win it all this year? Exactly? Nope,
- 10:50Speaker 1: incorrect answer wrong. The clear favorite this year is Rutgers,
- 10:56Speaker 1: who happened to be led by none other than Ron Oppa,
- 11:02Speaker 1: son of the legendary point guard Ron Harper, who led
- 11:06Speaker 1: the Bulls and Lakers to a title, five champions lables. Yeah,
- 11:14Speaker 1: he was un championship teams. Was an integral piece of
- 11:19Speaker 1: the piece, was running the point. Who do you think
- 11:22Speaker 1: calls the plays the point guard? He doesn't understand basketball, Tony,
- 11:27Speaker 1: don't try to explain it. That clearly doesn't know. He
- 11:29Speaker 1: relied on his teammates to tell him not to play
- 11:31Speaker 1: the problem. The problem with Rutgers is at some point
- 11:34Speaker 1: in time when you get when you use guys, is
- 11:37Speaker 1: gonna tell him? He listen, we can't win this game,
- 11:40Speaker 1: right you know? I mean you can't trust the Jersey team. Yes,
- 11:45Speaker 1: oh yeah, you know you saw you're forgetting you didn't
- 11:48Speaker 1: scoff in nineteen seventy six when Rutger has made the
- 11:51Speaker 1: Final four, and who did they lose to Indiana, the
- 11:55Speaker 1: only team to go on defeeded ever thirty two, which
- 11:58Speaker 1: means by that math Rutgos is the second best deal
- 12:02Speaker 1: of all time. And oh this is this guy doesn't
- 12:09Speaker 1: know anything. I'll give you. You want to know how
- 12:14Speaker 1: far back I go Ruger's past player, You go, Okay,
- 12:17Speaker 1: Rutgers first Big East game ever ever was I played
- 12:22Speaker 1: against him as a Notre Dame Notre Dame Rutgers at
- 12:24Speaker 1: the rack Um and we were up fourteen or seventeen
- 12:30Speaker 1: a second half, lost in overtime, and you asked about
- 12:33Speaker 1: my shooting. I was shooting fine. And in that game
- 12:37Speaker 1: I shot an air ball off the free the line
- 12:39Speaker 1: and then I made the no surprise la. So so
- 12:41Speaker 1: I get back to my dorm Notre Dame the next
- 12:44Speaker 1: day and I get a call from the coach, John
- 12:46Speaker 1: McCleod passed away rest in peace to come down and
- 12:49Speaker 1: see coach McCloud. And I was like, because this is
- 12:51Speaker 1: how he would do things. He was a former NBA coach.
- 12:53Speaker 1: He would never in the embarrassed you in front of
- 12:56Speaker 1: the team and call you and you'd have a meeting
- 12:58Speaker 1: in close the door probably okay, yeah right, So uh
- 13:03Speaker 1: and instead of watching the game, he just watched the
- 13:06Speaker 1: free throw. What are you thinking here? I was like thinking,
- 13:10Speaker 1: you gotta get a little bit more next time, coach.
- 13:14Speaker 1: Story here, So he like he called uh, Denny Price,
- 13:18Speaker 1: Mark Price's dad's shooting coach, his former assistant, and like
- 13:22Speaker 1: verbally had me give him. He gave me a shooting
- 13:24Speaker 1: lesson and then he went out and we shot free throws,
- 13:26Speaker 1: me and him for like an hour, and yeah, he
- 13:29Speaker 1: kind of screwed me up. So so the moral of
- 13:31Speaker 1: the story is you're blaming your coach for the fact
- 13:33Speaker 1: that you can't shoot for ship. Yeah, unbelievable, coach. No,
- 13:38Speaker 1: what happened was that was I saw, I knew what
- 13:41Speaker 1: the line was, and there's a guy behind the basket.
- 13:43Speaker 1: He did the thing. You know, we know he does
- 13:47Speaker 1: good work. Now, look, we're not just hosts yet, all right,
- 13:51Speaker 1: we're what you'd call in the business disrupt them. You
- 13:53Speaker 1: know that about us. We're always the strusful ways to
- 13:55Speaker 1: break the old, boring traditions. And why we do love
- 13:58Speaker 1: watching the Attorney. We feel there are ways to improve
- 14:01Speaker 1: it fastly. So here's what we're gonna do, Doug. We're
- 14:03Speaker 1: gonna share ideas with you on how we can improve
- 14:06Speaker 1: the Torney. And you know, we get it. You're a
- 14:08Speaker 1: media personality, so you'll probably mention them on your show.
- 14:11Speaker 1: You know, work catches on bing bang. Everybody's thanking us,
- 14:14Speaker 1: you know, for for revolutionizing the Thorney as we know it.
- 14:17Speaker 1: So here we go our ways to fix the turney,
- 14:19Speaker 1: here we go. All right, the first idea, every team
- 14:23Speaker 1: gets one no take, Tony tell them how it works.
- 14:27Speaker 1: So let's say St. Bonaventure gets Gonzaga and the draw
- 14:31Speaker 1: that's very unfavorable to them, and they get to say, oh,
- 14:35Speaker 1: we don't want to play Gonzaga. Then they say no take,
- 14:39Speaker 1: and instead they get to play San Jose. State your thoughts,
- 14:44Speaker 1: dunk Um. I like the idea and theory, but in practice,
- 14:50Speaker 1: no one would play Gonzaga, Baylor, Illinois or Michigan, right, Like,
- 14:56Speaker 1: no one's gonna play in those teams. So again, if
- 14:59Speaker 1: you're are you open up the whole field like there's
- 15:01Speaker 1: there's teams I don't know. All right, moving on, he
- 15:06Speaker 1: don't him clearer ideas? Okay, you try and refute this
- 15:11Speaker 1: way we got here, we go the winner of the tourney.
- 15:17Speaker 1: In order to claim the championship officially, they need to
- 15:21Speaker 1: beat the worst team in the NBA. Tony, tell him
- 15:23Speaker 1: how this works. Imagine Gonzaga versus the Detroit Pistons for
- 15:28Speaker 1: the n C Double A title. What a matchup for
- 15:32Speaker 1: the ageless. If Gonzaga wins, they can say, hey, we
- 15:37Speaker 1: beat an NBA team, What an accomplishment. And if Detroit wins,
- 15:41Speaker 1: they can say, hey, we suck in the NBA, but
- 15:45Speaker 1: we're n C Double A champions. Let's have a parade.
- 15:49Speaker 1: Here you go, your thoughts. Dog. Uh, it's the it's
- 15:53Speaker 1: the most discussed, um, least competitive disc shon that we
- 16:00Speaker 1: have in sports, which is could the best team in
- 16:03Speaker 1: college basketball beat the worst team or in college football?
- 16:06Speaker 1: And the answer is that wouldn't be competitive. It wouldn't
- 16:08Speaker 1: be fun. And what's the point of our champion if
- 16:11Speaker 1: you only well, yeah, you you know how basketball can't
- 16:15Speaker 1: be competitive. It's when you're on the court. All right, look,
- 16:17Speaker 1: final one, al Right, here we go. Let's say you
- 16:21Speaker 1: can you can not like this? This is so brilliant,
- 16:28Speaker 1: This is so brilliant. Just be honest with all right,
- 16:31Speaker 1: I'll be honest with you. You haven't come up with
- 16:33Speaker 1: a good idea, I'll give you one last chick. Let's
- 16:39Speaker 1: face it, the tourney lacks star power these days. Come
- 16:43Speaker 1: on you you could have I'm with we're coming around here,
- 16:47Speaker 1: good good, So here we go. Before the tourney, each
- 16:51Speaker 1: team gets to draft one famous alumnus to come back
- 16:55Speaker 1: and play. Tony tell them how this works. So you
- 16:57Speaker 1: could potentially have Kansas call up Joe L. M Beat
- 17:01Speaker 1: and be like, yo, come playing the tournament, and then
- 17:04Speaker 1: Duke can say, okay, Zion, come play for us. Forget
- 17:08Speaker 1: about Lonzo ball. Now we have two recognizable faces people
- 17:14Speaker 1: want to watch that you hate on That gotleib go.
- 17:17Speaker 1: I actually like that idea in theory. Again, in practice,
- 17:21Speaker 1: it won't happen because there're worth hundreds of millions of dollars.
- 17:27Speaker 1: Who's worth zero? Because like I mean, like, uh was
- 17:32Speaker 1: it Tommy boy when he's playing movies? This guy doesn't
- 17:36Speaker 1: know how to stay on the topic of sports. But
- 17:38Speaker 1: I do. Here's the topic I'm staying on. You're off
- 17:41Speaker 1: the show. You're not coming back to play time because
- 17:46Speaker 1: you're at it. You don't yourself such a big hole.
- 17:49Speaker 1: You're never climbing at it. You guys are easy to
- 17:58Speaker 1: stand of the phone. Hang off the phone? Is he
- 18:02Speaker 1: up the line? Hang up already? What do people do?
- 18:06Speaker 1: You see what we have to deal with you? What
- 18:08Speaker 1: can any of you hang up the phone? You can
- 18:10Speaker 1: any of you do it? Oh, and look at this.
- 18:12Speaker 1: We got our friend here, the old bag at the
- 18:15Speaker 1: penny slots looking at us. Sorry, if we made noise,
- 18:19Speaker 1: we apologize. We didn't think you could hear us anyway,
- 18:22Speaker 1: you old bag. I'm gonna do the grim Reaper's job
- 18:25Speaker 1: for him. Lady, if you don't stop staring at us, Look, Tony,
- 18:28Speaker 1: we can't let that old bag get to us, because
- 18:31Speaker 1: you know, we got business to do. As always at
- 18:33Speaker 1: this point of the show. You know, we've we've been
- 18:36Speaker 1: so graciously welcomed here in Atlantic City that we're gonna
- 18:39Speaker 1: do an ad out of the goodness of our heart
- 18:43Speaker 1: pro bano for the Atlantic City Tourism Board. People. With
