- 0:00Speaker 1: The Force will be with you always.
- 0:18Speaker 2: Hello, and welcome back to another episode of Star Wars Alliance.
- 0:24Speaker 2: Of course, I'm your host Clay, and with me like
- 0:27Speaker 2: always is the beast of a speed reader Katie. Now, people,
- 0:38Speaker 2: I need you to know this before Katie can talk.
- 0:42Speaker 2: This woman said about a week ago, Oh, I've only
- 0:48Speaker 2: read about ten chapters, and I was like, oh, I
- 0:53Speaker 2: haven't even started it yet. And then the app that
- 0:57Speaker 2: we used to read these advanced copies I found out
- 1:01Speaker 2: has an ai read aloud. I don't love it because
- 1:04Speaker 2: it doesn't have that nuance that narration does in audible,
- 1:09Speaker 2: and it doesn't really get me super into the book.
- 1:12Speaker 2: But at least I can read it and do it
- 1:14Speaker 2: in a timely manner, just because work has me a
- 1:18Speaker 2: lot of like hands on stuff and I'm not really
- 1:21Speaker 2: able to really zone in on the book. Now this
- 1:25Speaker 2: I've been reading every single night instead of at work
- 1:27Speaker 2: because at work, I'm still new and I'm still trying
- 1:29Speaker 2: to absorb new information and I didn't want the book
- 1:33Speaker 2: to really get in my way. So I was reading
- 1:36Speaker 2: this every single night. Last night I get a text,
- 1:40Speaker 2: a picture, not just a text, a picture that says, oh,
- 1:45Speaker 2: time to speed read and it had a picture of
- 1:50Speaker 2: chapter nineteen, and I'm like, wow, this girl is going
- 1:57Speaker 2: to have a long night. An hour and a half later,
- 2:04Speaker 2: only an hour and a half, people, an hour and
- 2:06Speaker 2: a half. This book is three hundred and seventy six
- 2:12Speaker 2: pages digitally. Digitally, she showed me a picture of chapter nineteen.
- 2:20Speaker 2: An hour and a half later, I get a text
- 2:23Speaker 2: say wow, I am crying at chapter forty seven, and
- 2:30Speaker 2: my brain explodes. I'm like, what forty seven? How is
- 2:35Speaker 2: this even possible?
- 2:37Speaker 3: Do you know what will make you feel even better?
- 2:39Speaker 3: I spent probably thirty minutes trying to get Mara down
- 2:42Speaker 3: to go to sleep.
- 2:45Speaker 2: I hate you. I see you showed me the superpower.
- 2:49Speaker 2: I know what the superpower is. I can only do
- 2:53Speaker 2: about half of what you do. But you are insane. Guy.
- 2:59Speaker 3: We see this every time.
- 3:01Speaker 2: Every time it is still boggles my mind because you
- 3:06Speaker 2: like it's you. You won't get this reference but like
- 3:11Speaker 2: it's it's it's the dragon ball Z meme of like, oh,
- 3:16Speaker 2: this isn't even my final form. You. You continue to
- 3:19Speaker 2: impress and go above and beyond every single time, And
- 3:24Speaker 2: of course I understand right now you are like neck
- 3:28Speaker 2: deep in like hey, I have a new baby, there's
- 3:33Speaker 2: a lot of stuff going on with the house, and
- 3:35Speaker 2: like there's all of these things that are preventing you
- 3:38Speaker 2: from probably wanting to read when you can or want to.
- 3:41Speaker 3: Yeah, Matt was like last night, he was like, you're
- 3:44Speaker 3: on Instagram. Aren't you supposed to be reading? And I
- 3:46Speaker 3: was like, I need a break. I need to just
- 3:49Speaker 3: mindlessly scroll.
- 3:51Speaker 2: Like I do the same thing. So I'll tell Abby.
- 3:54Speaker 2: I'm like, I cannot do anything else. I need to read.
- 3:57Speaker 2: And like she'll come into the room and I'm like
- 4:00Speaker 2: playing a game and she's like, I thought you're supposed
- 4:01Speaker 2: to be Like, sorry, I can't. My brain needs to
- 4:06Speaker 2: turn off for a second. But yeah, we are here
- 4:09Speaker 2: today talking about the new Star Wars novel, Mace Wind
- 4:17Speaker 2: Do the Glass Abyss. And I texted Katie when she
- 4:22Speaker 2: was talking about being on chapter forty seven. I texted
- 4:27Speaker 2: her and I said, this book. What did I say specifically?
- 4:32Speaker 2: Because this is absolutely true? I said, I have a
- 4:36Speaker 2: lot and very little to say about this book. It's
- 4:39Speaker 2: going to be a very interesting conversation because here's the
- 4:43Speaker 2: one thing that I have to say about this book.
- 4:46Speaker 2: In particular, this is the most and least star Wars
- 4:55Speaker 2: book I have ever read, because it's like, I know,
- 5:01Speaker 2: it's Star Wars, and Star Wars has its niches and
- 5:06Speaker 2: very like stereotypical things, elements that they put inside of
- 5:10Speaker 2: a Star Wars book. This is very Star Wars, but
- 5:13Speaker 2: it also veers in such a like non Star Wars
- 5:20Speaker 2: sci fi thing that I'm like, this new, this feels new,
- 5:26Speaker 2: and that's what I really dug about it.
- 5:31Speaker 3: I had a blast with this one. The closest book
- 5:36Speaker 3: that I could potentially draw comparison to is this book
- 5:40Speaker 3: is everything that Kadawan wanted to be and more. And
- 5:49Speaker 3: that's because I don't okay, I say that's because I
- 5:52Speaker 3: don't know if it's because this is an adult book,
- 5:56Speaker 3: so it was allowed to go further into a character
- 6:00Speaker 3: exploration with more adult themes, but obviously like and Padawan
- 6:04Speaker 3: being a young adult and Obi Wan being a teenager,
- 6:07Speaker 3: like two very different planes of existence. However, I thoroughly
- 6:16Speaker 3: enjoyed this book. I have not read The Cestis Deception
- 6:22Speaker 3: by Stephen Bartnes. That is his only Star Wars, his
- 6:25Speaker 3: only other Star Wars novel. It is a Legends book,
- 6:28Speaker 3: but I need to go read it because this book
- 6:32Speaker 3: was such a character study and like explored new depths
- 6:37Speaker 3: of Mace Windu that I didn't know were possible and
- 6:42Speaker 3: that could make me love Mace because I've always had
- 6:46Speaker 3: a problem with maceoble with everybody's always had a problem
- 6:51Speaker 3: with me.
- 6:52Speaker 2: So the really funny thing, and guys, we announced this
- 6:55Speaker 2: a while back, our book reviews are going to be
- 6:59Speaker 2: a little different in the sense of because we are
- 7:01Speaker 2: trying to release these on embargo date, we are not
- 7:05Speaker 2: going to go crazy with the spoilers. And of course
- 7:09Speaker 2: this is something that we have been very passionate about
- 7:12Speaker 2: because we want you, guys to be able to enjoy
- 7:16Speaker 2: the book at its fullest and have the experience yourself.
- 7:20Speaker 2: So we will probably touch based on like very minor
- 7:23Speaker 2: spoilers and random things like that. But the one thing
- 7:27Speaker 2: that I told you early on into my reading was
- 7:33Speaker 2: why didn't we get this Mace in Clone Wars? Why
- 7:38Speaker 2: didn't we get this Mace anywhere else? And the thing
- 7:41Speaker 2: that I love about the character of Mace is outside
- 7:48Speaker 2: of Star Wars is the fact that everybody has pointed
- 7:51Speaker 2: the finger at Mace and said, oh, he's the unfun one.
- 7:56Speaker 2: He is the most serious Jedi. That kind of sucks
- 8:00Speaker 2: the energy out of every room and he's just like
- 8:03Speaker 2: to the tee and kind of boring and everywhere else
- 8:10Speaker 2: has made him not like he tried to break that shell.
- 8:15Speaker 2: This book does exactly that. Yeah, this book, I will say,
- 8:22Speaker 2: is think of everything that you everything that you love
- 8:28Speaker 2: about some of your favorite Star Wars characters Qui Gon
- 8:33Speaker 2: jen Obi Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker, and they threw those
- 8:39Speaker 2: elements into this novel with with Mace window and like,
- 8:45Speaker 2: I'm getting chills thinking about it because it's so good,
- 8:50Speaker 2: like the the the actual jokes. Mace Windu makes jokes
- 8:57Speaker 2: in this book. And that's that's the point that I made.
- 9:01Speaker 2: That's at that point, that's when I had texted you
- 9:04Speaker 2: and I said I wanted this Mace all along. There
- 9:09Speaker 2: there is a joke in here. I will say this.
- 9:13Speaker 2: One of the main characters of this new planet that
- 9:16Speaker 2: we're visiting in this novel, the species, Yes, the species.
- 9:24Speaker 2: And that's that's the other thing that I know this
- 9:27Speaker 2: book is a really good book. When I can't remember
- 9:31Speaker 2: whose side is what this so so of course like
- 9:35Speaker 2: the very stereotypical thing when it comes to like science
- 9:39Speaker 2: fiction and galactic war, like Star Wars is that this
- 9:43Speaker 2: very stereotypical thing is like there's a new world and
- 9:47Speaker 2: there's two factions and they're always at war. And but
- 9:50Speaker 2: like this had like a very like interesting dynamic of
- 9:54Speaker 2: like this like multi layer like literally multi layer construction
- 10:04Speaker 2: and like the like middle class, high class, like like
- 10:08Speaker 2: how it was all structured, very interesting, very thought out.
- 10:13Speaker 2: I love the dynamic and the political war that was
- 10:16Speaker 2: going on throughout this whole thing. But like one of
- 10:20Speaker 2: the stories is that, like one of the on highs
- 10:24Speaker 2: is like they have lots of children. They have lots
- 10:30Speaker 2: of children, and one of them is talking to Mace
- 10:35Speaker 2: and he's like I'm number four hundred, like some some
- 10:41Speaker 2: large number, and Mace just says it's the last words
- 10:44Speaker 2: of the chapter. Mace is like she needs to get
- 10:46Speaker 2: a new hobby. Like it's so silly and stupid and
- 10:52Speaker 2: so subtle. I literally laughed out loud in my car
- 10:56Speaker 2: while I was reading this before I walked into work,
- 10:59Speaker 2: like this book is so good. I was very surprised
- 11:08Speaker 2: because again the status quo on Mace is, Oh, to
- 11:16Speaker 2: the te he's boring, He's become, especially during Clone Wars,
- 11:22Speaker 2: this like very hard stricken leader that's always barking orders
- 11:30Speaker 2: like I didn't know where this book was going to go,
- 11:35Speaker 2: and when they very early on first two chapters introduce
- 11:43Speaker 2: this entire story is pushed upon a past relationship that
- 11:49Speaker 2: Qui Gon had built. I'm like, okay, Mace, like, don't
- 11:57Speaker 2: basically step all over Qui Gon's great here. You have
- 12:02Speaker 2: to take this very seriously, but also like think of
- 12:07Speaker 2: your past, because that's that's one thing about this. This
- 12:09Speaker 2: book takes place after Phantom Menace, yes, but before Attack
- 12:18Speaker 2: of the Clones, yes, So this is.
- 12:20Speaker 3: Like immediately after, Like we get Qui Gon's funeral.
- 12:25Speaker 2: Yes, and we do get some little flashes of Anakin's
- 12:33Speaker 2: training also, so we do know that it's like immediately after,
- 12:40Speaker 2: but also at the same time, like a little like
- 12:44Speaker 2: a little bit time has passed, you know, to the
- 12:47Speaker 2: point where Anakin has at least started to do some training.
- 12:51Speaker 2: Because even in Phantom Menace, there is a time there
- 12:54Speaker 2: is a time jump from Qui Gon's funeral to the
- 12:59Speaker 2: celebrate of on the boot, Like there's there is still
- 13:03Speaker 2: a time jump there because then you see Anakin with
- 13:06Speaker 2: like his new Jedi padawan garbs and all of that.
- 13:09Speaker 2: So yeah, there there is some time that is in
- 13:12Speaker 2: between all that and whatnot. But when they introduced this
- 13:17Speaker 2: like dynamic of of like, hey, Qui Gon had a
- 13:20Speaker 2: prior history with these characters and now Mace is jumping
- 13:24Speaker 2: into it. I thought that was very interesting because Qui
- 13:27Speaker 2: Gon and Mace are opposite sides of the coin.
- 13:32Speaker 3: Yes, but then you find out that they play they
- 13:34Speaker 3: basically played the Star Wars Chess together Dajarik. They played
- 13:38Speaker 3: it together all the time and Qui Gon was always
- 13:42Speaker 3: five moved ahead of uh Mace. And I loved that
- 13:47Speaker 3: that was a theme throughout the book, that there was
- 13:49Speaker 3: all these little callbacks to the Dajarik game and that
- 13:54Speaker 3: Mace would be like, Qui Gon's got me again, Like.
- 13:59Speaker 2: I really really dug the because at one point we
- 14:05Speaker 2: do get like because I still I don't think they
- 14:09Speaker 2: will ever do it, because I don't think Lucas from
- 14:14Speaker 2: Publishing is very interested in doing these types of stories.
- 14:17Speaker 2: But this whole story is based upon a prior mission
- 14:25Speaker 2: that Qui Gon had stumbled upon, and we we get
- 14:33Speaker 2: a small part of that. There is a flashback that
- 14:37Speaker 2: has Qui Gon in there and it's only Qui Gon
- 14:41Speaker 2: and it's like, hey, this is to tell you how
- 14:46Speaker 2: he kind of got into this mess and why Mace
- 14:51Speaker 2: is now stuck in this situation.
- 14:55Speaker 3: Well, and they kind of do, because we get one
- 14:57Speaker 3: chapter with Qui Gon.
- 14:59Speaker 2: Yeah, that's That's what I'm saying, Like, we we do
- 15:01Speaker 2: get that that that chapter that says, hey, this is
- 15:04Speaker 2: what happened. But there was a moment in the book
- 15:10Speaker 2: where Qui Gon Hell's Mace like, hey, like this Well, no, no, no,
- 15:17Speaker 2: it wasn't. It wasn't directly Remind me again, was it
- 15:23Speaker 2: a hollowvid that was a holocron? That was like I
- 15:28Speaker 2: can't remember exactly we sped read through this entire book, guys,
- 15:34Speaker 2: I am getting like glimpses of like in the middle
- 15:38Speaker 2: of the book and in the ending of the book
- 15:40Speaker 2: and everything else. But there is a moment, I believe
- 15:45Speaker 2: what I can't remember what got Mace actually to that planet.
- 15:49Speaker 3: It was all right, y'all, we're going to hit our
- 15:52Speaker 3: first ad break and we will be right back in
- 15:54Speaker 3: three two one. Qui Gon basically left like a personal effect.
- 15:59Speaker 3: So like he so the like the main hero of
- 16:05Speaker 3: or the main species of the planet that's calling Qui
- 16:10Speaker 3: Gon and Mace into it is the Sad who is
- 16:15Speaker 3: led by I think her name is kin Sean is
- 16:18Speaker 3: how you pronounce it. And so she sent a crystal
- 16:24Speaker 3: to Qui Gon because the Sad saved his life from Chuloc,
- 16:31Speaker 3: who is like the main one of the main villains
- 16:35Speaker 3: of the story, which we have to talk about them,
- 16:41Speaker 3: by the way, because yeah, but she sends a crystal
- 16:47Speaker 3: to Qui Gon reminding him of his debt. Well, Qui
- 16:50Speaker 3: Gon had just gotten called to the mission to go
- 16:54Speaker 3: to Naboo, so he put it aside and was like, okay,
- 16:57Speaker 3: I will come back to it after the fact. But
- 17:01Speaker 3: he also recorded a like last Will and Testament because
- 17:05Speaker 3: he had a feeling that he wasn't going to make
- 17:07Speaker 3: it back from the mission to Nabou. So he records
- 17:12Speaker 3: the last Will and Testament for Mace Window and that
- 17:16Speaker 3: is given to Mace And so I think he looks
- 17:20Speaker 3: up the planet in like the Jedi archives, is able
- 17:23Speaker 3: to find something. So he gets to the planet and
- 17:26Speaker 3: hides his ship on the surface and then he makes
- 17:29Speaker 3: his way down into the tunnels because that was the
- 17:31Speaker 3: instruction Quigan had given him. So there's two messages, one
- 17:35Speaker 3: for before the mission and one for after the mission. Yeah,
- 17:39Speaker 3: and so that's kind of how Mace gets there, and
- 17:44Speaker 3: in the process he goes through all of the different
- 17:47Speaker 3: like levels. It's like the world building for Matagos barn
- 17:53Speaker 3: Stephen Barnes does an incredible job with it, just articulating
- 17:57Speaker 3: everything but not making it seem over detailed like Tolkien's books,
- 18:05Speaker 3: like this is like what I would want is like a, hey,
- 18:09Speaker 3: here's the planet, but like, you know, here's like these
- 18:13Speaker 3: animals that have been overcome by the radiation of the
- 18:17Speaker 3: sun and like now we're down below protected from the sun,
- 18:21Speaker 3: like whole shit it gives.
- 18:23Speaker 2: He gives the bare minimum in the sense of like
- 18:27Speaker 2: it's it's thoroughly thought out, in the sense of like
- 18:30Speaker 2: him writing it and being like, oh, people are probably
- 18:33Speaker 2: gonna wonder how this is possible on this level, and
- 18:38Speaker 2: he just throws it out willy nilly in the conversations
- 18:42Speaker 2: that are going on, and it feels very organic and
- 18:46Speaker 2: it is world building at the same time. I loved
- 18:49Speaker 2: it made it very simple to follow. It made you
- 18:54Speaker 2: feel very like, oh, like this is the world structure,
- 19:00Speaker 2: this is the economy, this is how nature grows. And
- 19:05Speaker 2: the one thing that I love how these books continue
- 19:10Speaker 2: to do this because it is a very hot topic
- 19:13Speaker 2: because of the Acolyte, and this is not how the
- 19:16Speaker 2: voice works. We have a new thing for the force,
- 19:24Speaker 2: you know, with the web. It's the web and it
- 19:29Speaker 2: and even Mace is like, oh you mean the force
- 19:33Speaker 2: like that that that that's what you're talking about.
- 19:37Speaker 3: I love that conversation.
- 19:39Speaker 2: But again, even in those conversations, it's like, yes, you
- 19:44Speaker 2: may call it the Force, but we call it the Web,
- 19:46Speaker 2: like respect what we have here, yep. And there was
- 19:50Speaker 2: a lot of those conversations of like, hey, you're new
- 19:54Speaker 2: to our planet. This is how things are run. This
- 19:58Speaker 2: is our culture. And I think I love that the
- 20:03Speaker 2: most about these books, especially when it comes to Star Wars,
- 20:07Speaker 2: is because we in the real world are very like
- 20:14Speaker 2: we are starting to learn and I think unfortunately it's
- 20:18Speaker 2: only been in the last twenty years that we in
- 20:21Speaker 2: real life are starting to learn this about other countries
- 20:24Speaker 2: in cultures. But like, just because we see our culture
- 20:29Speaker 2: as like quote unquote superior or whatever, like we feel
- 20:33Speaker 2: like to force it onto everybody else whereas in the
- 20:37Speaker 2: Star Wars universe, like hey, you're visiting us, like you
- 20:44Speaker 2: are the outlier here. This is how things run. If
- 20:49Speaker 2: you want to stay here, you'll have to learn this,
- 20:52Speaker 2: this and this, and May starts to learn these things
- 20:56Speaker 2: about the web, about the silk, about like all of
- 21:01Speaker 2: these different things, and he's like some things make him uncomfortable,
- 21:07Speaker 2: which we learn has to do with some things that
- 21:11Speaker 2: are going on mentally and how it's being forced upon
- 21:15Speaker 2: him mentally, you know, like all of these different things,
- 21:17Speaker 2: and that has to do with like the villains and
- 21:19Speaker 2: everything kind of all of that. But it's so so good.
- 21:26Speaker 2: I I I like that because it is a what's
- 21:33Speaker 2: what's the word I'm looking for? An allegarchy or or
- 21:36Speaker 2: or it's it's basically metaphor metaphor for us as specifically.
- 21:45Speaker 2: I feel like Americans, it's like, hey, like you, we
- 21:50Speaker 2: aren't superior here, Like Mace is not the superior being here.
- 21:56Speaker 2: It is these people and this culture and of course
- 22:01Speaker 2: the Jedi are always seen as superior, and like, hey,
- 22:06Speaker 2: we have to look like not down upon everybody. But
- 22:09Speaker 2: like Mace had to break everything down, he had to
- 22:15Speaker 2: shed all of that literally, and I love and I
- 22:21Speaker 2: said very early on in this review that like it
- 22:25Speaker 2: took some of your favorite aspects of other characters. Mace
- 22:30Speaker 2: goes under cover in this yeh.
- 22:33Speaker 3: As the Solver, Oh, the Solver. The Solver just adds
- 22:38Speaker 3: so much humanity to Mace because like in other books,
- 22:42Speaker 3: you've seen him as like this pillar of excellence, I
- 22:45Speaker 3: could do no wrong. But then as the Solver, he's
- 22:50Speaker 3: forced to like get nitty gritty as a mercenary and
- 22:54Speaker 3: like actually kill people. And he tries to avoid that.
- 22:58Speaker 2: And I wanted to talk to you about that again,
- 23:00Speaker 2: trying to kind of weave it in and out of
- 23:03Speaker 2: a spoiler territory here, but you kind of went over
- 23:07Speaker 2: that threshold of like he does have to really think about, oh, well,
- 23:14Speaker 2: I can't be a Jedi right now, Like being a
- 23:18Speaker 2: Jedi is actually very dangerous right now because of the
- 23:21Speaker 2: history of Kauai gon Jin, and you know, let's let's
- 23:26Speaker 2: try to do it in this other manner. And you're right,
- 23:30Speaker 2: he does have an inner dialogue with himself of like
- 23:35Speaker 2: I'm gonna try to do whatever I can to not
- 23:38Speaker 2: kill these individuals, and then like I'm just gonna spoil
- 23:43Speaker 2: this one part. I'm not gonna say who it is,
- 23:45Speaker 2: but there's somebody that he's wrestling with with a blaster
- 23:49Speaker 2: and maces, like, okay, let's do this in a way
- 23:52Speaker 2: that I'm not gonna kill him, and that individual like
- 23:56Speaker 2: pulls the trigger while Mace is like moving the arm
- 23:59Speaker 2: and blast the dude blasts his own face off, and
- 24:02Speaker 2: it's like yep, oh, and there's there's also that brings
- 24:08Speaker 2: me to another very good point, and you would said,
- 24:11Speaker 2: also there's a lot of adult themes here. It does
- 24:15Speaker 2: get very dark, and I will go ahead and throw
- 24:19Speaker 2: in a trigger warning, and I do want to ask
- 24:22Speaker 2: you personally as a new mom. There is a scene
- 24:29Speaker 2: later on in the book where it like shit really
- 24:36Speaker 2: starts to hit the fan, and like there's a moment
- 24:41Speaker 2: where one of the villains gets a blaster and shoots
- 24:45Speaker 2: somebody and the narration says, oh, they could have shot
- 24:48Speaker 2: them square in the face and it could have been
- 24:50Speaker 2: you know, just you know, done with. But they blast
- 24:54Speaker 2: them over and over again in the body and they
- 24:57Speaker 2: Barnes does this like really grotesque but like not super
- 25:02Speaker 2: disgusting way of like explaining like the goo and the
- 25:05Speaker 2: flesh and it's all spilling out and like then talks
- 25:08Speaker 2: about like the killing of children and all of this stuff,
- 25:11Speaker 2: and like it gets dark.
- 25:15Speaker 3: It does really quickly, and I had to kind of
- 25:19Speaker 3: like pace myself at that point, because I think that
- 25:22Speaker 3: was when I called it last night and was like, Okay,
- 25:26Speaker 3: we're gonna stop here, I'm gonna take a break, and
- 25:31Speaker 3: then ended up going to sleep and stuff. But like
- 25:35Speaker 3: it does, like Barnes like goes back and forth, especially
- 25:40Speaker 3: in that part of the book, to kind of just
- 25:43Speaker 3: articulate how much is happening, and like we know that
- 25:48Speaker 3: this takes place after the Phantom Menace. We don't know
- 25:51Speaker 3: how long the book is like time frame wise, but
- 25:55Speaker 3: I would say Mace is here for like four or
- 25:57Speaker 3: five months.
- 25:59Speaker 2: It very much feels like that because he gets very
- 26:04Speaker 2: comfortable with the way of life with because his whole,
- 26:10Speaker 2: his whole identity of like becoming this mercenary is to
- 26:15Speaker 2: get close to the people on high and to figure
- 26:20Speaker 2: out everything so that way, hey, I know that these
- 26:23Speaker 2: other people are safe, you know. And in order to
- 26:27Speaker 2: do that, like he asked the questions very early on
- 26:29Speaker 2: in the book of like oh, well, how do I
- 26:33Speaker 2: get promoted and how do I do this? And how
- 26:35Speaker 2: do I do that? And so it's not something that
- 26:39Speaker 2: could happen over like a month. He has to be
- 26:43Speaker 2: there for a while for sure.
- 26:49Speaker 3: So the main villain in this story. Their name is Chuloc,
- 26:56Speaker 3: and this was very interesting to me because Chulock is
- 26:59Speaker 3: not one. They are two and lock joined together. So
- 27:07Speaker 3: they are like literally two people joined by a fleshy
- 27:12Speaker 3: bond is what it's called. Basically, it's very creepy because
- 27:18Speaker 3: it's not like they're like conjoined twins or something. They
- 27:24Speaker 3: are a Roodian. Locke is the Rhodian, and then Chu
- 27:30Speaker 3: is another species. I can't remember the species name, but
- 27:33Speaker 3: it's not a species that we've seen a ton or
- 27:37Speaker 3: at all, actually, now that I think about it, because
- 27:39Speaker 3: I don't actually remember reading about them. But they're like
- 27:43Speaker 3: two very distinct personalities that have chosen to merge, and
- 27:49Speaker 3: they talk like about each other as if they're like
- 27:53Speaker 3: one soul and that they were soulmates meant for each other.
- 27:58Speaker 3: And there's words of a prophecy. And we're not going
- 28:02Speaker 3: to go too much into this, but I found this
- 28:03Speaker 3: interesting because prophecies and star wars are always interesting mm hmm.
- 28:08Speaker 3: But they talk about adding a third to them, and
- 28:11Speaker 3: I don't want to say like how that ends up
- 28:12Speaker 3: in the book, But what did you think about Chulock
- 28:15Speaker 3: as a whole.
- 28:17Speaker 2: Tchulock was very creepy and very unsettling. There's there's a
- 28:28Speaker 2: moment where even Mace like gets very like, oh, like
- 28:35Speaker 2: this is uncomfortable mm hm. Because of the way that
- 28:39Speaker 2: Chulock speaks. There's like in I would say that like
- 28:46Speaker 2: in most movies that you see when there is this
- 28:50Speaker 2: kind of thing where like two voices are speaking at once,
- 28:54Speaker 2: there's usually this like auditory like differential but also like
- 29:00Speaker 2: in unison, and it kind of makes things disorienting. That's
- 29:04Speaker 2: basically what Mace was feeling when they were talking, and
- 29:10Speaker 2: it does like as time goes on in the book,
- 29:17Speaker 2: Mace does make a point of reference of like, oh,
- 29:21Speaker 2: I've kind of gotten used to this now, like I
- 29:24Speaker 2: can I can take this uneasiness when they speak type
- 29:28Speaker 2: of thing.
- 29:30Speaker 3: But he also talks about how he has to be
- 29:33Speaker 3: more careful because it lulls him into a false sense
- 29:36Speaker 3: of security, and like, I kind of actually want to
- 29:42Speaker 3: see like art of tu Lac. I want to see
- 29:45Speaker 3: how like Steven Barts actually like imagine this character to look.
- 29:50Speaker 2: Like I can't wait until the fan art comes in
- 29:55Speaker 2: to this. Now, there's other people in the fandom that
- 29:59Speaker 2: might do some their friend art that I'm kind of
- 30:01Speaker 2: scared of. But uh, but this it's it's it's gonna
- 30:07Speaker 2: be a very interesting way to Like I would be
- 30:14Speaker 2: okay with revisiting this this place, this this planet. What
- 30:19Speaker 2: was the planet called again? It was, uh, yes, because
- 30:24Speaker 2: we get the we get verbally the full history. We
- 30:29Speaker 2: we get it twice and or maybe two or three times,
- 30:33Speaker 2: and and it's it's referenced also because again Mace is
- 30:36Speaker 2: trying to learn more about it and asking this questions
- 30:40Speaker 2: that questions, and people are telling him like, oh, well,
- 30:46Speaker 2: you know, our family came into this place during this time,
- 30:51Speaker 2: which was when these people were in power and this
- 30:55Speaker 2: was going on, and these people were actually slaves to
- 31:00Speaker 2: build these homes, and like all of these different dynamics
- 31:04Speaker 2: and stuff I would be okay with. And I think
- 31:13Speaker 2: we could possibly find out the timeline better this way.
- 31:19Speaker 2: I need a high republic like introduction to this planet.
- 31:26Speaker 3: We're gonna go into our second ad break and we'll
- 31:30Speaker 3: be right back. And you know, it's completely plausible that
- 31:34Speaker 3: we could get that because there's like ships, so they
- 31:41Speaker 3: have like a shipyard for each side of the Matago's
- 31:46Speaker 3: conflict plus the civilians, and there's tuck that well the
- 31:51Speaker 3: book describes an ancient Jedi.
- 31:54Speaker 2: Vector mm hmmm, who is not.
- 31:57Speaker 3: Being piloted by anybody with four capabilities. So you get
- 32:01Speaker 3: to see how that kind of interacts because we had wondered, okay,
- 32:05Speaker 3: the vectors require for sensitivity, like we had wondered that,
- 32:10Speaker 3: but you know, somebody without the force sensitivity was able
- 32:13Speaker 3: to pilot it, but they weren't able to do as
- 32:15Speaker 3: much damage with it and use it to its full capabilities.
- 32:18Speaker 3: So I liked getting to see that in the book.
- 32:21Speaker 2: Yeah, I think that would be very funny. Put it
- 32:24Speaker 2: in a comic or put it in a novel, whichever
- 32:27Speaker 2: one you decide to do, just do it because there
- 32:31Speaker 2: is a huge history to this planet. The like the
- 32:36Speaker 2: craziness of how like organically the structures also works symbiotically. Like,
- 32:43Speaker 2: I loved it all. I think it was very very
- 32:46Speaker 2: interesting yeap, very unique and like I said, like we
- 32:52Speaker 2: have the very Star Wars s stuff. But Barnes was
- 32:56Speaker 2: able to take I'm looking at his list of books, now,
- 33:01Speaker 2: his other stuff does kind of go into the science fiction,
- 33:06Speaker 2: so I think he was very much able to take
- 33:09Speaker 2: his background in that and be like, oh, I'm going
- 33:13Speaker 2: to introduce some stuff that isn't very star Wars in here,
- 33:16Speaker 2: but make it star Wars, which yeah.
- 33:18Speaker 3: He talks he talks about in like his acknowledgments section
- 33:22Speaker 3: at the end he talks about bringing in somebody who
- 33:24Speaker 3: was like a dream psychologist. Like the science fiction portions
- 33:30Speaker 3: of it, the biology like all very interesting and I
- 33:34Speaker 3: love the amount of research he did. Stephen Barnes is
- 33:37Speaker 3: seventy two years old. Did you read Yeah?
- 33:39Speaker 2: I saw that in his little stephenbartons dot com about
- 33:44Speaker 2: section here on Google. I was like, holy cow, Like
- 33:48Speaker 2: this dude has been through a lot and to just
- 33:52Speaker 2: now be again. He wrote a book back in what
- 33:55Speaker 2: looks like two thousand and four was the release of,
- 33:58Speaker 2: like you said, The Cestus Deception. But like, I like,
- 34:03Speaker 2: how is it that he was not like pulled into
- 34:07Speaker 2: Star Wars sooner?
- 34:10Speaker 3: And maybe it was the idea of like, Okay, I
- 34:13Speaker 3: don't want to contribute too much to like a main
- 34:16Speaker 3: stream IP. But also like Toma said that they can't
- 34:21Speaker 3: really pull in authors, So maybe he was approached with
- 34:24Speaker 3: the idea of like, hey, this is something we think
- 34:26Speaker 3: you'd be really good at, and he was like, Okay,
- 34:29Speaker 3: this is the one opportunity I've been looking for to
- 34:32Speaker 3: come back. So to be able to do that, it's
- 34:36Speaker 3: quite impressive. What did you think of the Druid characters,
- 34:43Speaker 3: particularly Maya twelve?
- 34:47Speaker 2: I thought they were very very interesting. Now, remind me,
- 34:52Speaker 2: was Maya twelve the kind of like detective? Yeah? Was?
- 35:02Speaker 2: Was she the one that I remember very early on
- 35:06Speaker 2: that like pulled out the cigarette or like it doesn't
- 35:12Speaker 2: like like Mace even was like you don't have lungs?
- 35:16Speaker 2: Why did you do that? Like what's going on here?
- 35:19Speaker 2: I loved it. I love these characters because again it
- 35:24Speaker 2: gets into this idea of like it's a little bit
- 35:30Speaker 2: of uh, Blade Runner and like again like all of
- 35:38Speaker 2: these other parts of sci fi put into Star Wars,
- 35:43Speaker 2: I loved it. It's it's this idea that this world
- 35:49Speaker 2: was very much like an organic like very like I
- 35:58Speaker 2: can't even like bring up the words to it, but
- 36:01Speaker 2: the fact that there was like androids and this organic
- 36:06Speaker 2: thing going on and they were assumbiotically like meshed together.
- 36:12Speaker 2: And because correct me if I'm wrong, and I may
- 36:15Speaker 2: have just read this book way too fast to completely
- 36:17Speaker 2: understand this whole thing.
- 36:19Speaker 3: We're having to get it done a little. Really, guys,
- 36:21Speaker 3: here's the Nameless coming out this week. We're recording this
- 36:24Speaker 3: September twenty second.
- 36:26Speaker 2: But the all of the children were like androids as well, right,
- 36:33Speaker 2: but they were also like children like it.
- 36:37Speaker 3: So I so no I. So the orphanage was set
- 36:42Speaker 3: up so like the Sybil children were in there, so
- 36:48Speaker 3: like they could grow on their own and everything. But
- 36:50Speaker 3: then like the sister I think they're called the Sisters
- 36:54Speaker 3: of the Light kind of everyone who needed help, so
- 37:01Speaker 3: the Sybil children, but also like if parents got lost
- 37:04Speaker 3: in the conflict between Sybil and Tulac, then those kids
- 37:08Speaker 3: would come to the orphanage refugees like whole Shabak. So
- 37:14Speaker 3: I don't think there were any Android children down there.
- 37:17Speaker 3: Maya eight, Maya twelve, Maya fourteen, I think we're like
- 37:20Speaker 3: the only like.
- 37:21Speaker 2: Android okay, okay, okay situation. But I really dug them
- 37:26Speaker 2: as characters. I think my twelve was my favorite. She
- 37:31Speaker 2: had a little bit of like a personality to her
- 37:34Speaker 2: with a lot of those things.
- 37:36Speaker 3: So I really dug that, And I sorry, I loved
- 37:41Speaker 3: the methodology because Maya twelve basically goes through different personalities
- 37:45Speaker 3: and that's a huge part of the story that won't
- 37:48Speaker 3: get into because spoilsh But like basically she can switch
- 37:53Speaker 3: chips and so she becomes like a singer, a prostitute,
- 37:59Speaker 3: I guess, yeah yeah, and like a detective. But she
- 38:03Speaker 3: could also be like therapists, all just depending on like
- 38:08Speaker 3: her chips being swapped, and like she articulates it so well,
- 38:14Speaker 3: like or Barnes articulates it so well to like showcase
- 38:17Speaker 3: the different personalities that you get when a chip is switched.
- 38:21Speaker 2: Because that was there was a moment where she she
- 38:24Speaker 2: does turn into like it was it was the it
- 38:27Speaker 2: was the prostitute, but also the detective, like going back
- 38:31Speaker 2: and forth because like at one point she does tell
- 38:33Speaker 2: Mece like, oh, pay me and.
- 38:38Speaker 3: I'll keep your secrets.
- 38:39Speaker 2: I'll keep your secrets, and it's like, uh, oh okay,
- 38:45Speaker 2: I I it was. It was very awkward, very silly,
- 38:50Speaker 2: very fun. And again because we have this very like
- 38:58Speaker 2: put Mace in a box prior to this book, we
- 39:03Speaker 2: expect Mace to act a certain way, yeah, when confronted
- 39:08Speaker 2: with this type of scenario. And again, this book broke
- 39:14Speaker 2: down all of his walls and all of his barriers
- 39:18Speaker 2: of who he is as a character. And it's like, hey,
- 39:21Speaker 2: let's reconstruct the way we as readers and fans think
- 39:26Speaker 2: about Mace and.
- 39:29Speaker 3: That all takes place in forty seven, which is like,
- 39:33Speaker 3: by far my favorite chapter because getting into that navy
- 39:36Speaker 3: purty without being overwhelming takes major skill.
- 39:44Speaker 2: I am going to spoil this one thing, not in
- 39:47Speaker 2: the details, but an overall we get to see or
- 39:54Speaker 2: at least know a bit of Mace's past prior to
- 39:59Speaker 2: being a I'm like, that is very interesting. The only
- 40:06Speaker 2: thing that I personally don't like about these character breakdowns
- 40:13Speaker 2: in a universe that is unfortunately built in a way
- 40:18Speaker 2: where we have to go back and write these stories
- 40:20Speaker 2: and move forward and write these stories and go in
- 40:22Speaker 2: between these little stories and do all this is like
- 40:27Speaker 2: I said, we have an idea of who Maces in
- 40:32Speaker 2: episode one, we get the stories of the Clone Wars,
- 40:38Speaker 2: we see him in episode two, he's you know, meets
- 40:42Speaker 2: his demise in episode three. But like with this story
- 40:48Speaker 2: in particular, I like, I read it and I go,
- 40:56Speaker 2: where was a little bit of this humanity? And I
- 40:58Speaker 2: and I understand where because you have to remember from
- 41:03Speaker 2: this moment, this teachable moment that Mace is getting throughout
- 41:07Speaker 2: the glass Abyss. He's thrusted right into war with Wars
- 41:13Speaker 2: right not immediately, not immediately, but from the moments that
- 41:17Speaker 2: we see him at from Glass Abyss to the next
- 41:20Speaker 2: time we see him, like we're in the midst of war,
- 41:25Speaker 2: and so that's going to change a man.
- 41:28Speaker 3: And yes it does, because I do agree in some sense, like, Okay,
- 41:33Speaker 3: if Anakin had popped up and said, Palpatine is this
- 41:36Speaker 3: person I've been doing this and like having a relationship
- 41:39Speaker 3: with Padme like we married whole thing, would Mace have
- 41:42Speaker 3: had a different reaction than just Palpatine's sibrd, Like could
- 41:47Speaker 3: he be a little more careful? But I will say
- 41:51Speaker 3: in the back half of the book, after chapter forty seven,
- 41:55Speaker 3: Mace has to separate the Jedi versus the general that
- 41:59Speaker 3: he's become, and it kind of goes into that, and
- 42:02Speaker 3: I think Barnes did that intentionally to showcase why we
- 42:06Speaker 3: don't get as much humanity from Mace in the Clone
- 42:09Speaker 3: Wars attack the Clones and because of that.
- 42:13Speaker 2: And that's why I kind of like, I love it
- 42:15Speaker 2: and I hate it, because hey, we can show you
- 42:19Speaker 2: this this window of where Mace becomes this beautiful individual
- 42:25Speaker 2: and Glass of thisss and you're just like WHOA, Like,
- 42:28Speaker 2: oh my god, But we know in the back of
- 42:32Speaker 2: her head, like he's gonna be a jerk to Anakin
- 42:37Speaker 2: for the rest of his life. And then of course
- 42:45Speaker 2: he dies in episode three, and in my mind, I'm
- 42:48Speaker 2: just like I want more of this Mace. I want
- 42:52Speaker 2: him here, and like there's the whole theory, and even
- 42:57Speaker 2: like freaking Samuel Jackson is like, oh yeah, like nobody
- 43:01Speaker 2: said he hasn't officially died, blah blah blah blah blah blah.
- 43:05Speaker 2: It's like, I don't know if I ever want to
- 43:08Speaker 2: see like, a oh, Mace Window survived and he's been
- 43:11Speaker 2: in hiding this entire time type of story. I think
- 43:15Speaker 2: it could be fun, but only if we see this
- 43:20Speaker 2: space if if we if I find out that Mace survived,
- 43:26Speaker 2: he only has one hand. He's had to go underground
- 43:30Speaker 2: and really just like survive all of Darth Vader and
- 43:35Speaker 2: all of this other stuff. But he goes back in
- 43:39Speaker 2: references this time that he like went on that one
- 43:43Speaker 2: mission because of Qui gon Jin and all of this
- 43:45Speaker 2: other stuff, and because of the way the Empire has
- 43:50Speaker 2: now taken over the galaxy, he has to humble himself
- 43:54Speaker 2: and do all of this. I think that would be
- 43:57Speaker 2: a way to go, but like, like Barnes has changed
- 44:01Speaker 2: the way I look at Mace, and I think that
- 44:03Speaker 2: was his goal. Yep, and it's it's great, Like, I
- 44:08Speaker 2: I love this book. I think it's a very very
- 44:15Speaker 2: interesting character study for who Mace is and who like
- 44:20Speaker 2: And you're asking all the right questions, Katie, and the
- 44:24Speaker 2: idea of like, of course it is the way it
- 44:28Speaker 2: is because the movie has gone in past. We can't
- 44:31Speaker 2: change that. But if Anakin had gone and said, hey,
- 44:37Speaker 2: this is the entire story instead of just saying Palpatine
- 44:41Speaker 2: has a seth lord, let's do this, like it's like
- 44:44Speaker 2: chill out, Anakin. Like, if you were to have gone
- 44:46Speaker 2: a completely different direction with it, I think Mace probably
- 44:52Speaker 2: would have had a little bit more grace, and then
- 44:57Speaker 2: we would have seen a completely different story.
- 44:59Speaker 3: And we're about to jump into our third ad. Y'all.
- 45:03Speaker 3: We promised. We'll be right back. We promise. Because and
- 45:07Speaker 3: I don't I don't want to spoil this part of
- 45:08Speaker 3: the book because I loved the moments between Ken Shawn
- 45:14Speaker 3: and Mace. But I think with those moments, if Anakin
- 45:18Speaker 3: ahead chosen to tell the full story at any point,
- 45:23Speaker 3: Mace would have still told him Okay, you're done in
- 45:26Speaker 3: the Jedi order kind of thing, but like he would
- 45:28Speaker 3: have been able to do it a little more gracefully,
- 45:31Speaker 3: and perhaps Palpatine wouldn't have had the issue.
- 45:36Speaker 2: Yeah, so it's it's a great story. I will say
- 45:42Speaker 2: this also because at the time of us dropping this episode, we.
- 45:51Speaker 3: All were first is when we were supposed to be
- 45:53Speaker 3: dropping it.
- 45:54Speaker 2: Yes, we are two weeks away from New York Comic Con.
- 46:02Speaker 2: They have a special edition book cover with pen that
- 46:13Speaker 2: half of my office. I told Katie this my office
- 46:16Speaker 2: because I'm new I can't go yet, but half my
- 46:19Speaker 2: office is going to New York Comic Con. I am
- 46:23Speaker 2: getting one of my coworkers to get me one of
- 46:26Speaker 2: these copies. I'm going to try to get one for
- 46:28Speaker 2: Katie as well. This book looks gorgeous. It is amazing
- 46:35Speaker 2: artwork on this cover.
- 46:36Speaker 3: It's done by the same artist who did the Essential
- 46:40Speaker 3: Legends collection covers for Darth Vaine. Oh, it just looks badass.
- 46:45Speaker 3: And don't get me wrong, the original artwork for like
- 46:50Speaker 3: the main cover is awesome.
- 46:55Speaker 2: I love both covers. I'm going to be getting my
- 46:58Speaker 2: Amazon copy sure, but this New York Comic Con one,
- 47:02Speaker 2: I was like so but yeah, we uh just wanted
- 47:09Speaker 2: to let you guys know about that, just an opportunity
- 47:11Speaker 2: to see if you guys can you know nab one.
- 47:15Speaker 2: But yeah, this was this was a great novel.
- 47:18Speaker 3: We got to talk about one thing though. This is
- 47:21Speaker 3: in the Indian chapter, but it's not really like a spoiler.
- 47:24Speaker 2: Okay, okay, okay.
- 47:26Speaker 3: But so the final chapter, Mace is kind of recounting
- 47:30Speaker 3: what he's learned on Matago's to Yoda in Yoda's chambers,
- 47:35Speaker 3: and we get a little sneak peek into Yoda's past
- 47:40Speaker 3: because there is Oh my gosh, I gotta pull it up.
- 47:43Speaker 2: I'm bringing it up also because I knew exactly where
- 47:45Speaker 2: you were going.
- 47:46Speaker 3: Yeah, uh, that's too much, Okay, Hang on notes and highlights.
- 47:57Speaker 3: It said Yoda was a bit slippery about his early days,
- 48:00Speaker 3: but rumor had it that one of his early instructors
- 48:04Speaker 3: was Nakata del Gormo, said to have been a Hislaurian.
- 48:12Speaker 3: Because there is he like Mace is talking about Yoda's
- 48:18Speaker 3: living space being modest and a hidden dwelling with few decorations,
- 48:22Speaker 3: and the one exception was a sand sculpture of a
- 48:24Speaker 3: star system he recognized as Hilsaria.
- 48:31Speaker 2: Like, okay, getting a Young Yoda novel announcement soon?
- 48:43Speaker 3: Oh my gosh, I hope so like Yoda has been
- 48:46Speaker 3: so secretive. I don't know if we will though, because
- 48:52Speaker 3: I think Filoni is going to want to continue going
- 48:55Speaker 3: into Yoda's past or like the species with Grogu.
- 49:02Speaker 2: So ah, okay, So I just wanted to double check
- 49:13Speaker 2: the look of the species. Somebody has already updated the
- 49:18Speaker 2: Pedia page for this. By the way, Islarians were species
- 49:24Speaker 2: of forearmed, four eyed semi serpentine individuals who hailed from
- 49:30Speaker 2: swamp worlds and Uhlaria one of their one of their number.
- 49:39Speaker 2: And then it says the master mentioned Nikata del Gormo
- 49:45Speaker 2: trained eventual Jedi Master Yoda in the Ways of the Force.
- 49:49Speaker 3: So it's not been updated. This is actually a Legends
- 49:54Speaker 3: detail that is being included into Cannon.
- 49:59Speaker 2: Oh you can tell please.
- 50:02Speaker 3: So Clay ish sharing the page on Wikipedia. So scroll
- 50:06Speaker 3: up so you see the Legends banner at the top.
- 50:09Speaker 2: Oh yeah, yeah.
- 50:11Speaker 3: So that's how you know that this is Legends and
- 50:14Speaker 3: not Canon because I looked up the same thing. But
- 50:19Speaker 3: that's very interesting that they have agreed to bring that
- 50:23Speaker 3: back into Cannon.
- 50:28Speaker 2: You I'm sorry, no, no, no, no, you can't tell me
- 50:31Speaker 2: otherwise if they decided to throw this back into cannon,
- 50:38Speaker 2: I think I don't think we will get in animated
- 50:41Speaker 2: form or in live action anywhere on Disney Plus or
- 50:46Speaker 2: even it. Oh no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, nope.
- 50:51Speaker 2: I was gonna say, uh, James bandfold Nope, not even
- 50:54Speaker 2: gonna go there, No.
- 50:55Speaker 3: No no, because James Bold movie is twenty five thousand years.
- 51:00Speaker 2: Yeah as way too way too far. I'm I'm gonna
- 51:06Speaker 2: go ahead. I'm gonna put my bet on a novel, okay,
- 51:13Speaker 2: and I'm going to give it a one year timeline
- 51:23Speaker 2: from from the time this episode drops, so that'll be
- 51:27Speaker 2: October first. I have until October first of twenty twenty
- 51:33Speaker 2: five to say, Okay, no, they're not going to do
- 51:35Speaker 2: it or Lucasfilm Publishing to drop any type of news.
- 51:41Speaker 2: But I'm I'm gonna go ahead and say yes, I.
- 51:46Speaker 3: Will give you to New York Comic Con. What well,
- 51:53Speaker 3: that's about what the same time perrame, But I'm giving
- 51:55Speaker 3: you another announcement period.
- 51:58Speaker 2: You're you're giving me an extra three weeks. Okay. Yeah,
- 52:02Speaker 2: for a second, I thought you meant New York Comic
- 52:04Speaker 2: Con this year. I was like two weeks really no,
- 52:11Speaker 2: but I I love this giving more background into such
- 52:17Speaker 2: a like because again you said, like I'm very surprised
- 52:23Speaker 2: that they decided that to make this canon, Like touching
- 52:28Speaker 2: on Yoda's history is like a big no no, like
- 52:30Speaker 2: you can't go into those Yeah, it's it's the it's
- 52:35Speaker 2: the one secret of Star Wars. God, I hope so
- 52:41Speaker 2: it's it's one thing. I think it's the one thing
- 52:45Speaker 2: everyone wants, no matter what type of Star Wars fan
- 52:49Speaker 2: you are. No, because I think that's why Mandalorian broke
- 52:56Speaker 2: the Internet was the fact that we got to see
- 52:58Speaker 2: another one of Yoda's species, cheese that wasn't Yoda or Yeatto.
- 53:04Speaker 2: It's just like, holy crap, Like there's more of them.
- 53:07Speaker 2: How why where like getting to be more into that?
- 53:11Speaker 2: I think it would be great. I want more of it.
- 53:16Speaker 3: I don't know if you could necessarily cover Yoda in
- 53:19Speaker 3: a book though, even the early timeframe, like if you said, like, Okay,
- 53:23Speaker 3: this is how he found out he was a Jedi
- 53:25Speaker 3: or he was for sensitive, because that's what like, that's
- 53:29Speaker 3: I'm looking at Yoda's Legends article on Wikipedia and it
- 53:33Speaker 3: says his path towards the Jedi began when he left
- 53:37Speaker 3: his home planet with a human friend who also did
- 53:40Speaker 3: not know he was for sensitive so like, and then
- 53:45Speaker 3: they met Master Gormo and that's when they both got trained.
- 53:50Speaker 3: So I don't know if you could cover that to
- 53:53Speaker 3: an extent, I would prefer like an animated series. I
- 53:56Speaker 3: think you could do a lot with an animated series
- 53:58Speaker 3: talking about Yoda.
- 54:00Speaker 2: Ooh, tales of Yoda.
- 54:05Speaker 3: Tales of Yoda, I can see it.
- 54:09Speaker 2: That would be fun. That would genuinely be fun, Like
- 54:13Speaker 2: if we because Tales of the Jedi, Tales of the Empire,
- 54:17Speaker 2: like We've gotten to see like has been very successful
- 54:21Speaker 2: in the idea of like getting to know the in betweens,
- 54:26Speaker 2: but also pushing the narrative forward. Like I think it
- 54:30Speaker 2: would be very interesting to be able to tell the
- 54:35Speaker 2: story in these small little pockets of Yoda's life but
- 54:41Speaker 2: still leave it off at the end, to be able
- 54:43Speaker 2: to push the narrative forward with where like Grogu's gonna
- 54:46Speaker 2: go hmm, that would be fun.
- 54:49Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, I don't know, guys, We'll see what happens.
- 54:54Speaker 3: So Clay upcoming next stuff. So this episode is dropping
- 55:01Speaker 3: at the same time as our Phase three Wave one discussion,
