- 0:17Speaker 1: Return to Glory Podcast November thirteenth, USC week trying to
- 0:25Speaker 1: get to a bowl game week. But it seems like
- 0:28Speaker 1: it has been the past several weeks and hopefully this
- 0:30Speaker 1: is the last one of those that we have. We
- 0:36Speaker 1: must make a bowl game. That was the first thing
- 0:39Speaker 1: I writ wrote down in my notes, and I capitalized
- 0:42Speaker 1: must and I circled it. I. I don't know when
- 0:48Speaker 1: that's going to happen, but if we don't, it's not
- 0:55Speaker 1: going to be good. And the word must, I think
- 0:59Speaker 1: it's very, very, very important. I guess for everyone, I don't.
- 1:06Speaker 1: I don't want to see what it's like if we don't.
- 1:08Speaker 1: But the problem is we're probably not favored in any
- 1:13Speaker 1: of these games, maybe the Wisconsin game at home, like
- 1:16Speaker 1: we've said last couple episodes, but it it's going to
- 1:21Speaker 1: be a challenge to get to our sixth to win again.
- 1:25Speaker 1: And if you're talking losing seventh straight and or sixth
- 1:29Speaker 1: straight and not making a bowl game in Mattrurle's second year, like.
- 1:37Speaker 2: That's yeah, yeah, that's tough tough to swallow, especially when
- 1:42Speaker 2: you were favored at a chunk of those games.
- 1:45Speaker 3: Wasn't wasn't that number one coming in the season. On
- 1:47Speaker 3: all of our list of goals of seasons, make a
- 1:51Speaker 3: bowl game.
- 1:53Speaker 1: Yes, yeah, I mean that was the most important thing.
- 1:58Speaker 1: And I unfortunately, because this is what we do, brush
- 2:02Speaker 1: off the fact that we're gonna make a bowl game
- 2:06Speaker 1: or win till seven and a half, like we're gonna
- 2:08Speaker 1: win nine, we're gonna win ten. We started off, however,
- 2:13Speaker 1: we started off and it was, oh my gosh, look
- 2:15Speaker 1: at us like this. We could we could run the
- 2:17Speaker 1: table like I don't sure if anybody believed that, but
- 2:21Speaker 1: that was the talk. And when you go back and
- 2:25Speaker 1: look at how we talked about the most important games
- 2:28Speaker 1: entering the year, and we referenced that a lot. That
- 2:33Speaker 1: was to me why these earlier games were a lot
- 2:35Speaker 1: more important than these later ones. But now since we
- 2:40Speaker 1: didn't win those games, that flips the script and now
- 2:46Speaker 1: these games all become very very very very very very
- 2:50Speaker 1: important for I guess the future of where this is
- 2:55Speaker 1: going with the rule. I'm not saying it's going to
- 2:59Speaker 1: end it. I don't think anybody necessarily thinks that, but
- 3:03Speaker 1: it's gonna put a lot of doubt, more doubt than
- 3:06Speaker 1: there is already in that doubt. Let's be real, as
- 3:08Speaker 1: crept in what the last three weeks go. Two weeks, well, see,
- 3:17Speaker 1: maybe Indiana there was a little bit of doubt, I agree,
- 3:20Speaker 1: but then Ohio State was like, I'm not just kidding.
- 3:22Speaker 1: There's no doubt now that that was a fluke. But
- 3:25Speaker 1: then we saw it again against a team that maybe
- 3:30Speaker 1: wasn't as good as Indiana. Hard to know, but that's
- 3:35Speaker 1: where the program's at, and for us to make a
- 3:38Speaker 1: bowl game is going to really, I think give people
- 3:43Speaker 1: a little bit of hope again in in coach rule
- 3:46Speaker 1: and the way that he's leading the program right now.
- 3:54Speaker 1: Isn't that crazy? It's just crazy. It's crazy that we're
- 3:56Speaker 1: talking about that.
- 4:01Speaker 2: And you know, like even if we are favored or
- 4:06Speaker 2: close to favor against Wisconsin, if we go into that
- 4:10Speaker 2: game and we lose this game, you know.
- 4:14Speaker 4: That that pressure is gonna be building.
- 4:17Speaker 2: Like at home against Wisconsin, the home crowd is gonna
- 4:21Speaker 2: be just ready to break, like not necessarily of joy.
- 4:26Speaker 2: But if it starts going south at all against Wisconsin,
- 4:28Speaker 2: you're losing the home crowd, I guarantee it. Like there's
- 4:33Speaker 2: gonna be no energy, it's supposed to be crappy weather,
- 4:37Speaker 2: and then all of a sudden, you go in Iowa.
- 4:38Speaker 2: It's like, well, shit, if you don't win this game,
- 4:40Speaker 2: we don't go to a bowl game.
- 4:43Speaker 4: And it's we just we need to just do it
- 4:47Speaker 4: to get it off off our back.
- 4:49Speaker 2: I mean, I honestly think that the pressure will help
- 4:53Speaker 2: go away.
- 4:54Speaker 4: You know, it would just help a lot of things.
- 4:58Speaker 1: But that's the problem. We had our chance to do it.
- 5:01Speaker 1: I know, areagainst more beatable teams. Not saying that these
- 5:04Speaker 1: three aren't winnable, but we had our chances and we
- 5:10Speaker 1: didn't do it.
- 5:13Speaker 3: I Making a ball games huge too, though, but it's
- 5:18Speaker 3: more you gotta at least look competitive. Two in these
- 5:21Speaker 3: games you could easily get blown out, and two of
- 5:24Speaker 3: them in Wisconsin don't think you get blown out. But
- 5:26Speaker 3: these usc in Iowa, I think you can get blown out.
- 5:29Speaker 4: It blown out by Iowa.
- 5:32Speaker 1: I mean blown out in like a fourteen to three
- 5:36Speaker 1: just Iowa. Iowa scored. They beat some teams. Iowa's beat
- 5:40Speaker 1: some teams forty one to ten this year. I mean,
- 5:42Speaker 1: they they've shown to do something a little more than
- 5:45Speaker 1: what they have Dak. I guess I'm gonna ask all
- 5:47Speaker 1: three of you guys, or two of you and me
- 5:51Speaker 1: right now. November thirteenth, twenty twenty four, were what one
- 5:57Speaker 1: in three four seasons into the Matt rule? Is Matt
- 6:02Speaker 1: rule here for five plus years? Right now?
- 6:11Speaker 2: See this year would be two, so you're saying, will
- 6:14Speaker 2: he be here three more years?
- 6:15Speaker 4: Basically I am.
- 6:19Speaker 1: Going to take a vote.
- 6:23Speaker 4: And I chew on this.
- 6:24Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean coaches to just do not last five years.
- 6:29Speaker 3: But especially here, the fans are not patient right now.
- 6:38Speaker 1: The word patient is hard because you hear that word
- 6:43Speaker 1: thrown around with coaches a lot, but with and I'm
- 6:47Speaker 1: not just saying the coaching environment, the transfer portal, NI
- 6:50Speaker 1: l that this longevity patience thing, like you said, Austin
- 6:55Speaker 1: is it's hard to stay somewhere for a long time. Now.
- 6:59Speaker 1: It just so fast paced. Everything about the entire college
- 7:02Speaker 1: football industry. It's fast paced. So while coaches are always
- 7:09Speaker 1: gonna argue and say you got to give me time.
- 7:11Speaker 1: I need time to implement what I want. The problem
- 7:17Speaker 1: is you're gonna see people like Kurt Signetti. That's gonna
- 7:21Speaker 1: happen more and more and more, and kurtse Signetti's is like,
- 7:24Speaker 1: I don't need time, kurtse Signetti said in the press conference.
- 7:28Speaker 1: And we thought it was gonna be a target on
- 7:30Speaker 1: your back laughable, like you're gonna get your ass kicking.
- 7:35Speaker 1: The score ran up on your comment, yep, and he's
- 7:39Speaker 1: like no, Like, we're gonna win now because I'm bringing
- 7:42Speaker 1: in some guy and we got some pieces from last
- 7:44Speaker 1: year and we're gonna win. And they're doing it now.
- 7:47Speaker 1: Their schedule hasn't been the toughest with the toughest, but
- 7:50Speaker 1: like that's gonna happen more and more now with the
- 7:52Speaker 1: transfer portal rule. Obviously didn't come from a college program.
- 7:55Speaker 1: I get that, but it's gonna give that alternative option
- 7:58Speaker 1: to say it's there. So back to the question, it
- 8:07Speaker 1: could be wrong, yes or no, what we'll be here
- 8:12Speaker 1: in five years or three and a half years.
- 8:16Speaker 2: My gut reaction right now, three more years. I feel
- 8:20Speaker 2: like he's for sure getting a third year. We're not
- 8:23Speaker 2: firing him at his off season, even if we don't
- 8:25Speaker 2: make a bowl game. For sure getting a third year.
- 8:30Speaker 2: I'm gonna guess he's not here at the end of
- 8:34Speaker 2: year five, for sure. I feel good about saying that.
- 8:40Speaker 3: That's the difference is prosce You could tell how long
- 8:46Speaker 3: is frost? Your four years fine a half? Her five years?
- 8:51Speaker 1: Well, you can tell.
- 8:52Speaker 3: You could tell by this point already you were starting
- 8:54Speaker 3: to like his teams were not false false.
- 8:58Speaker 1: By two years in we.
- 9:00Speaker 4: Were the greatest three and nine team to ever exist.
- 9:03Speaker 1: In year three, the COVID years kind of funky too,
- 9:08Speaker 1: I could tell her.
- 9:09Speaker 3: I always thought, I said, year two, frosting out the guy.
- 9:14Speaker 3: No you did not, Yes I did.
- 9:17Speaker 1: Yes, I.
- 9:19Speaker 3: Don't know where you could find the state back, Yes
- 9:21Speaker 3: I did. After you lost Indiana. I remember it year two.
- 9:24Speaker 3: I said it.
- 9:25Speaker 1: It was pre COVID. So I will say, like I
- 9:28Speaker 1: would say, some people did jump on it earlier than later.
- 9:31Speaker 1: But there's a reason why he lasted as long as
- 9:33Speaker 1: he did. There was that hope, there was that patience
- 9:38Speaker 1: of what it happened. And then he went through the
- 9:42Speaker 1: whole offensive system change that once again like reset everything
- 9:46Speaker 1: kind of gave him another reset rule.
- 9:49Speaker 4: Already burned that one up.
- 9:51Speaker 1: Was he burned it up. But like remember, Frost was
- 9:54Speaker 1: like forced to do it, if you remember, like he remember,
- 9:57Speaker 1: he didn't make it really on his own. He was
- 10:01Speaker 1: forced to give the play calling duties up out of
- 10:03Speaker 1: his hand. Rules doing that now already, and I think
- 10:08Speaker 1: it's we've talked about it. On Monday. It's smart. It's
- 10:13Speaker 1: a very political move right now that you know what
- 10:16Speaker 1: rules saying, if things weren't going to get better and
- 10:19Speaker 1: if we can't figure out this offensive thing now, then
- 10:22Speaker 1: it's really probably not going to work out here in
- 10:23Speaker 1: the long term and has nothing. It is not a
- 10:25Speaker 1: good fit. Like it's not gonna happen. And he even
- 10:28Speaker 1: said like he's not the most aggressive, he's very conservative,
- 10:33Speaker 1: and his style or whatever he thought he wanted to
- 10:35Speaker 1: do was not working, and we all saw that happen.
- 10:41Speaker 1: So Austin says, no, Dak, we're still going back to
- 10:46Speaker 1: this question. I really just wanted to yes or no,
- 10:48Speaker 1: but yes, so I got to break the tie.
- 10:55Speaker 2: As are reconsidering, because when you say five plus years,
- 10:57Speaker 2: I'm saying he's gonna make it through four years and
- 11:00Speaker 2: then that fifth year, I don't know if he would be.
- 11:01Speaker 4: There at the end of the fifth year.
- 11:03Speaker 1: Yeah, that's the fine way to look at it. See,
- 11:08Speaker 1: I'm why I said it five years. I'm I'm just
- 11:14Speaker 1: I'm just gonna say no.
- 11:17Speaker 2: I think he either doesn't work, so we know it
- 11:20Speaker 2: didn't work this year, next year if he somehow pulls
- 11:23Speaker 2: it out and it's an incredible year, and he has
- 11:25Speaker 2: two incredible years he.
- 11:28Speaker 4: Could leave.
- 11:29Speaker 1: I mean.
- 11:32Speaker 4: So many ways in which he's not.
- 11:35Speaker 1: It's it's it's crazy that we're talking about this and
- 11:37Speaker 1: and and we are a year and nine games in
- 11:42Speaker 1: the rules tenure here, and this wasn't even a thought
- 11:45Speaker 1: of conversation three weeks ago. And it's funny how it
- 11:49Speaker 1: has been a topic of conversation now. I'm not saying
- 11:51Speaker 1: he's getting fired. I don't think that's okay. I don't,
- 11:54Speaker 1: but just from a longevity standpoint, and just his tone,
- 11:58Speaker 1: his tone is shifted in the press conference, and I
- 12:01Speaker 1: think that's good. Like I think it's promising that he is.
- 12:04Speaker 1: I mean, he's already having that like defeated all right,
- 12:07Speaker 1: Like I gotta ask for help, like I got we
- 12:10Speaker 1: got to figure this out, because I think he knows,
- 12:12Speaker 1: back to the very first comment I made, he knows
- 12:14Speaker 1: that we must make a bowl game this year. So
- 12:17Speaker 1: what I want to go through before we dive deeper
- 12:20Speaker 1: into USC we have three games left. We like to
- 12:25Speaker 1: do a little expectation level setting every three ish games.
- 12:30Speaker 1: We did one the beginning of the year where our
- 12:32Speaker 1: heads are at gave our predictions and about every three games,
- 12:35Speaker 1: we go back and really reset your expectation, because, as
- 12:40Speaker 1: we all know, if your expectations are that we should
- 12:44Speaker 1: be winning a national title, then you're going to be
- 12:46Speaker 1: extremely disappointed with how this year went. If your expectation
- 12:49Speaker 1: was to make a bowl game and we happen to
- 12:51Speaker 1: make a bowl game, then you should be satisfied. I
- 12:57Speaker 1: don't think anybody's expectation is probably lower than make a
- 13:00Speaker 1: bowl game this year. So if we don't do that,
- 13:02Speaker 1: we're probably all not going to be satisfied. But I
- 13:05Speaker 1: think it's important to say, Okay, where's where do we
- 13:08Speaker 1: have left? And can we agree, Like, let's go down
- 13:12Speaker 1: these two paths before we talk about our expectations. There's
- 13:16Speaker 1: a best case in the worst case scenario right now.
- 13:20Speaker 1: Worst case scenario, like Dak said, we get blown out
- 13:24Speaker 1: by two of the three games left, we do end
- 13:27Speaker 1: up going zero to three, we end up going five
- 13:29Speaker 1: and seven, We don't make a bowl game. Holgerson's offense
- 13:33Speaker 1: does not improve anything at all. Our defense continues to
- 13:38Speaker 1: have its ups and downs and not be consistent. Dylan
- 13:43Speaker 1: Royola says, I don't know about this place. I think
- 13:48Speaker 1: all that is very possible that could happen. That's not
- 13:51Speaker 1: like a that's not an unreasonable scenario to speak.
- 13:56Speaker 4: That's bleak.
- 13:59Speaker 1: It's bleak, But I don't think it's unfortunately. I don't
- 14:01Speaker 1: think it's like. I don't think it's not. It's very, very,
- 14:05Speaker 1: very possible. The other side of that.
- 14:07Speaker 3: That's about rock bottom. I don't think you get any
- 14:09Speaker 3: lower in that one.
- 14:11Speaker 1: We'll find a way, I'm sure the flip side of that.
- 14:17Speaker 1: On the on the high end, you win three games, Okay,
- 14:22Speaker 1: now we're seven and how we're eight and four?
- 14:26Speaker 2: No?
- 14:27Speaker 1: What are we? Yeah? Eight and four? You actually hit
- 14:32Speaker 1: the win total over for the first time, and who
- 14:34Speaker 1: knows how long might be right, the offense is all
- 14:41Speaker 1: of a sudden like has a fresh new look and
- 14:43Speaker 1: teams are struggling to defend it. I'm including the likes
- 14:46Speaker 1: of Wisconsin and Iowa. You know, go to a bowl
- 14:50Speaker 1: game and hopefully you win that. I also think that's
- 14:53Speaker 1: possible too. I don't think that's as likely, but it's
- 14:58Speaker 1: in the realm of possibilit It's not like we have
- 15:01Speaker 1: Ohio State left in our schedule, which we almost beat,
- 15:04Speaker 1: but to to face so like, there's a wider range
- 15:09Speaker 1: of outcomes and it makes these last three games so
- 15:12Speaker 1: much fun to think about and and play out the scenarios.
- 15:16Speaker 1: So given that is our scale, basically anything could happen.
- 15:25Speaker 1: Dak Where where's your head? Like, how do you think
- 15:29Speaker 1: this is going to play out? Because there's a lot
- 15:32Speaker 1: of unknowns. You have the new cod the new coordinator,
- 15:34Speaker 1: the new helpers, you have the all the talk about
- 15:37Speaker 1: the players, you have no idea where the players And
- 15:39Speaker 1: we didn't hear from anybody this week, coming up a
- 15:42Speaker 1: bye week after probably one of the worst losses, one
- 15:47Speaker 1: of that we've seen in recent years, Like where where
- 15:52Speaker 1: Where's where are we going?
- 15:57Speaker 2: I think.
- 16:00Speaker 3: Well, I got another ranking question said later I was
- 16:03Speaker 3: gonna bring up anyway. I think it goes you win
- 16:06Speaker 3: one out of three. I think you beat Wisconsin. I
- 16:11Speaker 3: don't think I think this week can be a lot
- 16:13Speaker 3: closer when people the spreend stuff are saying, but I
- 16:15Speaker 3: don't think you beat USC and then you lose the
- 16:18Speaker 3: ISEL at the end of year. So I think you
- 16:19Speaker 3: go six and six.
- 16:21Speaker 1: Talk me through the emotions of people like, oh, get
- 16:25Speaker 1: a little get a little more detailed, like I like,
- 16:28Speaker 1: I like the prediction, but give me a little more juice.
- 16:30Speaker 1: Behind it.
- 16:31Speaker 3: Well you lose this week, everybody freaks out because because
- 16:35Speaker 3: they think, well, it's the same things last year, and well,
- 16:39Speaker 3: it depends on okay, first off, depends on how your
- 16:41Speaker 3: offense looks, if your offense looks better.
- 16:44Speaker 1: Not depend on how do you think our offense is
- 16:46Speaker 1: gonna look?
- 16:47Speaker 3: Oh, I think I think the offense will look a
- 16:48Speaker 3: lot better because I don't think you get any worse.
- 16:51Speaker 3: Like I said, I I think thanks Sad, if it
- 16:55Speaker 3: was your main problem, you got rid of him.
- 16:57Speaker 1: Now I don't know if.
- 16:58Speaker 3: You have the skill players around to make it that
- 17:00Speaker 3: much better. But I think Holgerson will bring a new
- 17:02Speaker 3: fresh look and it'll be better because you can't get
- 17:05Speaker 3: much worse. I saw they gonna score twenty points to
- 17:08Speaker 3: since September or over over twenty points since since September.
- 17:13Speaker 1: So you think offense is gonna look better, But we're
- 17:15Speaker 1: gonna lose against the USC and we're still gonna be upset. Yes,
- 17:21Speaker 1: but I don't.
- 17:21Speaker 3: Think as upset because because you start to see signs
- 17:25Speaker 3: of your offensive proving and then you beat you beat Wisconsin,
- 17:30Speaker 3: so everybody's going nuts, braids in the streets. Whatever. You
- 17:33Speaker 3: made a bowl game shooting and cannon's off going whatever.
- 17:36Speaker 1: We still on the field? No, yes? Or yeah? Yeah?
- 17:46Speaker 1: Are you saying yes, yes, you get a gatorade bath?
- 17:50Speaker 1: Yes or no?
- 17:50Speaker 3: Because what it's Yes, it's been seven years.
- 17:54Speaker 1: Yeah, the field? I don't.
- 17:57Speaker 3: I think Wisconsin's awful. But yeah, you're still on the field.
- 18:01Speaker 1: And then did the goalposts come down?
- 18:06Speaker 3: No?
- 18:07Speaker 1: Okay, good.
- 18:11Speaker 3: Now here's a question. Would you guys be embarrassed that
- 18:12Speaker 3: they storm the field?
- 18:14Speaker 4: Yes?
- 18:15Speaker 1: I don't want to. Yes, I don't. I would not
- 18:18Speaker 1: want to storm in the field. Okay, so storm in
- 18:22Speaker 1: the field beat Wisconsin. We go to Iowa black Friday.
- 18:29Speaker 3: First off, it's gonna be one of the worst. I
- 18:32Speaker 3: hate that hate that game because I hate just watching
- 18:34Speaker 3: Iowa anyway. I think Iowa beats you like normally do what,
- 18:40Speaker 3: let's say seventeen thirteen. It's just a terrible game to watch.
- 18:44Speaker 3: A they bring into their own style game your offense.
- 18:48Speaker 3: How do we feel you feel coming out of that game?
- 18:52Speaker 3: You feel good? You feel great because that's what your
- 18:56Speaker 3: goal was season, to make a ball game. I think
- 18:58Speaker 3: the only thing fans are looking for now is make
- 19:00Speaker 3: a ball game in their offense. There's two things you're
- 19:02Speaker 3: looking for make a ball game and your offense to
- 19:04Speaker 3: improve since a field's gone for the rest of the year.
- 19:07Speaker 1: I think it's that simple, all right. That's the two
- 19:09Speaker 1: things we gotta do.
- 19:10Speaker 3: Yeah, and your defense you'd like to get a little
- 19:15Speaker 3: bit more steady. Like you, you're not too worried about
- 19:17Speaker 3: your defense at all. But that's two things right there.
- 19:20Speaker 3: That's all you're worried about.
- 19:22Speaker 1: So I think, oh, go ahead, keep going.
- 19:27Speaker 4: Well.
- 19:27Speaker 3: I think at the Iowa game, I think because I
- 19:32Speaker 3: you're offending and look that good against Iowa. I don't.
- 19:35Speaker 3: It never does, but people are still happy. A little
- 19:40Speaker 3: bit more worried, but you're going to ball game, So
- 19:43Speaker 3: there you go, and you're still can't the goal post
- 19:45Speaker 3: with you.
- 19:47Speaker 1: Happy's a touchy word. I don't know if the happies
- 19:49Speaker 1: are right word, but satisfied better.
- 19:54Speaker 2: I don't know if I'll be able to follow Dak
- 19:56Speaker 2: with the same level of conciseness and understanding of what
- 19:58Speaker 2: he wants out of this, but I'll try my best
- 20:01Speaker 2: follow that up. Okay, So here's what's gonna happen. We're
- 20:06Speaker 2: gonna go California. We're gonna play usc really tight. Heinri
- 20:11Speaker 2: Cardberg is gonna be our starting quarterback. Delan Riola does
- 20:13Speaker 2: not play, or if he does play, he's gonna be
- 20:18Speaker 2: very short and Heider's gonna play more most of the snaps.
- 20:21Speaker 1: We'll talk about that later.
- 20:23Speaker 2: So now, all of a sudden, we lose a closer
- 20:26Speaker 2: game to usc defense blows last drive. People are upset,
- 20:30Speaker 2: but it's like, okay, well, Dilan Roola didn't play, you
- 20:33Speaker 2: give Everyone feels okay because there's a competitive game without
- 20:38Speaker 2: Dilan Roland.
- 20:39Speaker 4: But people are still upset.
- 20:40Speaker 2: So starting to see the light at the end of
- 20:42Speaker 2: the tunnel of oh shit, we don't beat Wisconsin or Iowa,
- 20:45Speaker 2: we're not making the Bowl game. Wisconsin comes around home game,
- 20:50Speaker 2: Dylan roy Old is coming back, he's healthy. We do
- 20:56Speaker 2: pull off the victory against Wisconsin in a cold afternoon.
- 21:02Speaker 4: People are happy. I think expectations have been reset to
- 21:06Speaker 4: if we can.
- 21:07Speaker 2: Win one of these games where it's more relief than
- 21:09Speaker 2: it is happiness. There's still some questions about oftensive play calling.
- 21:15Speaker 2: It's not a pretty game. We can almost shoot ourselves
- 21:18Speaker 2: on the foot, but we actually kind of win a
- 21:19Speaker 2: one to our game, so it's like, all right, maybe
- 21:21Speaker 2: we're on the right path, and then we go to
- 21:23Speaker 2: Iowa and we get absolutely slaughtered and the tides turn.
- 21:30Speaker 2: Everyone's like, okay, if rule dosn't get a shit together
- 21:32Speaker 2: next year, I don't care that we made a bowl game.
- 21:37Speaker 2: We're we're getting rid of him after if he doesn't,
- 21:39Speaker 2: if if it doesn't work out next year, if he's
- 21:41Speaker 2: not seven and five next year.
- 21:43Speaker 1: What's like that? Not that we put a win total
- 21:45Speaker 1: on it, but what does the season have to look
- 21:47Speaker 1: like next year?
- 21:48Speaker 2: It has to be better than five hundred okay with
- 21:53Speaker 2: one signature win. And then we go to our bowl
- 21:57Speaker 2: game and we barely win a bowl game against an
- 22:02Speaker 2: Okay team, and now people are like, well maybe maybe okay,
- 22:08Speaker 2: and then we go to next year.
- 22:10Speaker 4: That's how it's gonna go.
- 22:12Speaker 1: So I'm like a merge between the two kind of.
- 22:22Speaker 1: But then I also have my own twist to it. USC.
- 22:25Speaker 1: I'm gonna predict our offense is gonna look better. I
- 22:29Speaker 1: don't know what better looks like. I don't really know, like.
- 22:32Speaker 4: It'll look different.
- 22:33Speaker 1: It's gonna look different in a good way, and it's
- 22:35Speaker 1: gonna I do. I think it's gonna be hard for
- 22:37Speaker 1: USC to prepare for because it's just it's gonna have
- 22:42Speaker 1: it's gonna have so many weird pieces too. There's gonna
- 22:44Speaker 1: be a blend of what we still do now, Like
- 22:47Speaker 1: that's not all gonna go away, but you know, like
- 22:50Speaker 1: Holderson's coming in with new concepts that he's installing that
- 22:55Speaker 1: like we maybe already kind of have in or don't,
- 22:58Speaker 1: and but they wan't want to make him like how
- 23:01Speaker 1: he's familiar. There's gonna be a lot of merging stuff.
- 23:03Speaker 1: So offense is gonna look better. And I think our
- 23:06Speaker 1: offense is gonna play so well that we should win
- 23:08Speaker 1: the game, but we don't because our defense isn't play
- 23:12Speaker 1: and we're gonna go back down that path.
- 23:16Speaker 3: So I don't.
- 23:17Speaker 1: I just don't think we defend running quarterbacks very well.
- 23:19Speaker 1: And I think US has a lot of talented athletes.
- 23:23Speaker 1: I agree. So we're gonna get to usc detailed more here.
- 23:28Speaker 1: We're gonna lose a close one, but not because of
- 23:30Speaker 1: our offense. We're gonna go to play Wis Compson and
- 23:36Speaker 1: all of a sudden, our offense might play a little
- 23:38Speaker 1: bit better about the same defense might play better, but
- 23:41Speaker 1: we're gonna lose the game again because our special team
- 23:43Speaker 1: sucks again. Or I don't know if we turn it
- 23:47Speaker 1: over like three times this game now, like we're gonna
- 23:49Speaker 1: we're just gonna do something that we lose the game,
- 23:52Speaker 1: because that we just lose the game, and then when
- 23:57Speaker 1: that happens, I do think the Iowa game is just
- 23:59Speaker 1: gonna to be not good. I'm just not getting myself
- 24:07Speaker 1: to think that we're gonna win any of these games.
- 24:08Speaker 1: I don't. I hope we do, but we need to,
- 24:12Speaker 1: we must, even for myself, my sanity. But I don't
- 24:17Speaker 1: know that we will get this twist or five and seven.
- 24:23Speaker 1: Guess whose academics are going to be really well, oh,
- 24:29Speaker 1: here we go. Yep. We'll get offered to play in
- 24:33Speaker 1: one of the fifty eight bowl games that are now.
- 24:35Speaker 1: They aren't how many there are, but there's a lot.
- 24:38Speaker 1: The Duke's Mayo Bowl against another five and seven academic team, Oklahoma,
- 24:47Speaker 1: and we're going in the Duke's Mayo Bowl five and
- 24:49Speaker 1: seven vers five and seven. I don't know people are
- 24:52Speaker 1: gonna feel about that. That's my really oddly specific prediction.
- 24:56Speaker 3: But do you think you acceptable bowl in life for
- 24:59Speaker 3: five and seven us?
- 25:00Speaker 1: Yep?
- 25:02Speaker 4: That was the dumbest thing for us, that it was
- 25:04Speaker 4: one of the things.
- 25:05Speaker 1: It's gonna be hard, and people are gonna there's gonna
- 25:08Speaker 1: be a ton of people talking about we shouldn't, we
- 25:09Speaker 1: don't deserve it, this is wrong. You should get six.
- 25:14Speaker 1: There's gonna be some But if you don't, If you don't,
- 25:18Speaker 1: you are making such a sacrifice a practice time of
- 25:22Speaker 1: another chance to play. That basically tells you that you're
- 25:25Speaker 1: giving up on this season and it's over. And people,
- 25:29Speaker 1: some people are gonna say you should because it was
- 25:31Speaker 1: embarrassing how we finished. But I mean, in all all fairness,
- 25:36Speaker 1: like going oh and three or going one and two
- 25:39Speaker 1: maybe the most likely scenario, but oh and three is
- 25:41Speaker 1: probably next, and so just be ready for that conversation.
- 25:45Speaker 1: And I have no idea where we're at academically to
- 25:49Speaker 1: be in that standing. I don't have a clue. Minnesota
- 25:52Speaker 1: beat us to it last year, so and I think
- 25:56Speaker 1: there's only one slot, so I don't know. I just
- 25:58Speaker 1: thought that'd be kind of a funny way to end it.
- 26:00Speaker 1: But it is. There's three games left, and it's fascinating
- 26:04Speaker 1: because it's all over the place of what could happen.
- 26:07Speaker 1: Nobody has a clue. We're obviously not favored any game.
- 26:11Speaker 1: I do think the line is nine is interesting this week.
- 26:17Speaker 1: It just stinks for some reason to me, Like I
- 26:19Speaker 1: felt like it should be this is bad. It should
- 26:22Speaker 1: be like five and a half six because of all
- 26:26Speaker 1: the unknowns. But I mean, if there's that nine is
- 26:30Speaker 1: telling you there's a chance it could be a twenty
- 26:32Speaker 1: point game, and I don't think that would make I mean,
- 26:36Speaker 1: if it's a twenty point game, that means our offense
- 26:37Speaker 1: doesn't look that much better. So anyways, that kind of fun.
- 26:43Speaker 1: I wanted to do that here before we got into
- 26:45Speaker 1: USC because I think that's where everybody's minds. It's as
- 26:48Speaker 1: a fan, as media, it's hard to focus one game
- 26:53Speaker 1: at a time. The players and coaching staff better be
- 26:55Speaker 1: I'll tell you what, like that better be number one priority.
- 26:58Speaker 1: And if they're looking at the last games is a chunk,
- 27:00Speaker 1: then we're in a bunch of trouble. But it's easy
- 27:05Speaker 1: to look at stuff in chunks as fans and and that,
- 27:09Speaker 1: and that's what we like to do. And and you
- 27:10Speaker 1: do get ahead of yourself a little bit because things
- 27:13Speaker 1: change every week, especially this year in college football. Any
- 27:19Speaker 1: other expectations stops the rest of the year.
- 27:22Speaker 3: Oh, I was so, I was gonna ask you guys here,
- 27:28Speaker 3: so rank your next three opponents of easiest, the toughest,
- 27:32Speaker 3: and then one of three year best shot you think
- 27:34Speaker 3: of winning.
- 27:36Speaker 2: Let me say Wyoming, usc Io, Wyoming.
- 27:42Speaker 1: I didn't even.
- 27:44Speaker 4: Wisconsin. Yikes.
- 27:52Speaker 1: I say Wisconsin only because it's at home. The other
- 27:55Speaker 1: two I think ericas up any you think that's your
- 27:58Speaker 1: best chance. I'll throw a USC ahead of Iowa only
- 28:03Speaker 1: because if we're zero and two going into Iowa.
- 28:06Speaker 4: Pressure's gonna be tough.
- 28:07Speaker 2: We had a bye week, yeah, by week to prepare
- 28:10Speaker 2: for usc they're switching their quarterback.
- 28:13Speaker 1: We have the element of surprise. They do a little
- 28:15Speaker 1: bit too, but we have a big Eleminger, which I
- 28:17Speaker 1: think can only help us.
- 28:19Speaker 3: I hope, Yeah, that's I mean, that's howesting I think
- 28:22Speaker 3: you're You're by far best shot I think is Wisconsin,
- 28:27Speaker 3: just because at home. I don't think they're that good.
- 28:29Speaker 3: I thought they were getting better. But I mean, we'll
- 28:31Speaker 3: talk about the next week.
- 28:32Speaker 1: But I mean, unfortunately, that's it was. It used to
- 28:36Speaker 1: be you Ucla. That was the one game that everyone's like, Okay,
- 28:39Speaker 1: if we can't beat Ucla, we might not go to
- 28:42Speaker 1: a bowl game. Now it's if we can't beat Wisconsin,
- 28:46Speaker 1: We're probably not going to go to a bowl game.
- 28:48Speaker 1: Like that's the mindset of again, fans and media. It
- 28:52Speaker 1: can't be in the players minds. I just am a
- 28:54Speaker 1: little bit scared that it is. And it takes a
- 28:56Speaker 1: really good, just i don't know, closed door type culture mindset,
- 29:03Speaker 1: head coach leaders in the locker room to not let
- 29:06Speaker 1: that thought get to you and add that build up,
- 29:09Speaker 1: that added pressure, which we've seen time and time and
- 29:12Speaker 1: time again.
- 29:14Speaker 3: Yeah, that's that's what scares me is now USC game.
- 29:16Speaker 3: But hey, they beat Iowa. Everything's good now.
- 29:23Speaker 1: So USC, I know what we're talking about. Nebraska's state
- 29:30Speaker 1: of unknown right now and everything that's gone on in
- 29:33Speaker 1: the last two weeks. USC is not like in a
- 29:37Speaker 1: great spot either. I think Lincoln Riley is, as Dak
- 29:41Speaker 1: has kind of hinted at all year, it's been a
- 29:45Speaker 1: little bit on the warm seat for his head coaching position.
- 29:49Speaker 1: He's a good head coach, I think, but it's not
- 29:51Speaker 1: really working out at USC the way that they probably
- 29:56Speaker 1: wanted it to. I mean, they're sitting at four and five,
- 29:58Speaker 1: so we're regardless, you know, opponents and all that. Like
- 30:01Speaker 1: they're they still need two wins to get to a
- 30:03Speaker 1: Bowl game too. And Miller Moss they're starting quarterback who
- 30:08Speaker 1: had some question marks but was talked about is maybe
- 30:11Speaker 1: even a Heisman dark horse coming into the year. I
- 30:13Speaker 1: guess Rayolos too, Uh, he's not going to be starting
- 30:19Speaker 1: on Saturday. And they're bringing in the un l V
- 30:26Speaker 1: transferred Jade Maeva in a quarterback who is going to
- 30:30Speaker 1: be more of a runner, which is more than what
- 30:33Speaker 1: Miller Moss had. He has not played though much, and
- 30:36Speaker 1: he has not really played strong defenses. Maya has not
- 30:40Speaker 1: compared to what he's probably seen at un l V
- 30:43Speaker 1: and then a few games he's gotten in this year.
- 30:46Speaker 1: So I think that it's important to keep in mind,
- 30:49Speaker 1: like maybe we're in turmoil, but you see your USC
- 30:52Speaker 1: is a little bit in desperation mode now too. We're
- 30:57Speaker 1: not living that. I haven't watched him in the USC games,
- 30:59Speaker 1: have either of you guys? No, I don't think I've
- 31:03Speaker 1: watched a second.
- 31:05Speaker 3: I take that back, LSU watch the whole game other
- 31:09Speaker 3: than Matt, not a second.
- 31:12Speaker 1: So it's hard to know like where their heads are at.
- 31:16Speaker 1: We obviously have a little more to prepare for and
- 31:18Speaker 1: really been mentioned we're watching unlv film to get used
- 31:21Speaker 1: to this quarterback a little bit, but they're their offense
- 31:28Speaker 1: is going to be dominated by athletes if they can
- 31:33Speaker 1: get going, and they have shown at times to do
- 31:38Speaker 1: a good job that. Lincoln Riley has shown as a
- 31:40Speaker 1: coach to do a good job of that with his quarterbacks.
- 31:43Speaker 1: With his receivers Xeon Branch and mkayle Lemon are there too,
- 31:50Speaker 1: like go to receivers. They got mentioned my quarterback, Woody
- 31:57Speaker 1: Marks will be their their lead running back. That's the
- 32:01Speaker 1: scary part is if they get going in this offense,
- 32:05Speaker 1: looks like they can just one on one be more
- 32:09Speaker 1: athletic and better players than us. This could get into
- 32:16Speaker 1: twenty thirty point range. But the hope and the promise
- 32:21Speaker 1: is that Ohio State had one of the most talented
- 32:25Speaker 1: athletic freaks. From a receiver standpoint two running backs. I
- 32:30Speaker 1: would say their quarterback was like Will Howard is just
- 32:34Speaker 1: he's an average quarterback. We don't know what Maava has,
- 32:40Speaker 1: but we saw what happened with that game. We did
- 32:42Speaker 1: a pretty bang good job of competing with them on
- 32:45Speaker 1: the defensive side of the ball. So I think that's
- 32:48Speaker 1: important to No Dak. You have Lincoln Riley's record at
- 32:55Speaker 1: US he's twenty three and thirteen and it's head coaching
- 33:00Speaker 1: ten ary, seventy eight and twenty three overall. That tells you,
- 33:05Speaker 1: I think again he's he's a good coach. Like I know,
- 33:08Speaker 1: Dak doesn't like him because of Oklahoma.
- 33:11Speaker 2: Dak also said that he would take him back. And
- 33:13Speaker 2: I'll heartbeat several times. You literally said that last week
- 33:17Speaker 2: on the pod. You're gonna be like, don't you don't
- 33:21Speaker 2: only when I said that, you said it on the pod.
- 33:24Speaker 1: And you said it several times when we were at
- 33:25Speaker 1: the Missouri Oklahoma the trip.
- 33:29Speaker 3: Maybe maybe I would. Can we talk about what trouble
- 33:35Speaker 3: he's in? Real quick? Go ahead, it's hilarious. So they
- 33:41Speaker 3: got in probation today, did you guys hear?
- 33:44Speaker 1: Why?
- 33:45Speaker 3: No, they had too many coaches on their staff in
- 33:49Speaker 3: twenty twenty two. Twenty twenty two.
- 33:51Speaker 1: Wow. Then the analyst thing that a lot of coaches
- 33:57Speaker 1: got ding done.
- 33:59Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, which say so they got fifty thousand dollars,
- 34:02Speaker 3: fine and win your information, which I don't do use
- 34:04Speaker 3: lose scholarships.
- 34:05Speaker 1: Don't know what that means.
- 34:06Speaker 3: But anyway, they say Lincoln Rally doesn't know anything about it.
- 34:11Speaker 3: How how do you not know? You have too many
- 34:14Speaker 3: half I don't know. But anyway, boy, that really helped
- 34:17Speaker 3: you out there, Lincoln, didn't it. Maybe you should ask
- 34:20Speaker 3: some more coaches. That's all right, that's like i'd say, yeah,
- 34:27Speaker 3: I was dying.
- 34:30Speaker 1: It's legal now. Like the more I just hear about
- 34:33Speaker 1: a lot of this stuff, and especially now like this
- 34:36Speaker 1: week with our people that we brought on and then
- 34:40Speaker 1: the Connor Stallion stuff that went on, I don't think
- 34:44Speaker 1: people know, and even us who all follow college football
- 34:47Speaker 1: very closely, I don't think we really know the depths
- 34:50Speaker 1: of how many people are out there working or a
- 34:55Speaker 1: program in any capacity. Like Roll mentioned out, some of
- 35:01Speaker 1: these guys that are you know, are basically like scouts
- 35:03Speaker 1: or their NFL scouts he has, Like, I don't think
- 35:06Speaker 1: we know. I'm throwing out a number. There could be
- 35:08Speaker 1: thirty people like outdoing stuff on at some capacity for Nebraska,
- 35:16Speaker 1: Like it could be anything, right, I think all these
- 35:19Speaker 1: big programs, it's a big circle. It's a bit in
- 35:23Speaker 1: that Connor Stallion's documentary, It's phenomenal like it it hints
- 35:27Speaker 1: at that too, like you get a sense of how
- 35:29Speaker 1: big this coaching called a coaching circle, but just the
- 35:35Speaker 1: the brains behind the operations of every program, so like
- 35:39Speaker 1: that it's not doesn't like that stuff doesn't surprise me.
- 35:42Speaker 1: And that's why they probably opened it up because it's
- 35:44Speaker 1: it is. It's instead of being this dark underground system, right,
- 35:49Speaker 1: it's like why we need to make it underground system?
- 35:52Speaker 1: Like why not? Just like it is what it is.
- 35:55Speaker 1: Everybody's gonna be helping people, so like utilize it.
- 36:01Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, it's yeah, it's It's one of those things.
- 36:05Speaker 2: I don't think anyone as a fan cares like, oh,
- 36:09Speaker 2: you got it's.
- 36:11Speaker 4: A cheating scandal, but it's not.
- 36:16Speaker 2: It's not something that you feel is going to directly
- 36:19Speaker 2: impact the product on the field as much as other
- 36:23Speaker 2: forms of cheating, especially with how it is how it's
- 36:26Speaker 2: traded now, like you know, like you said, we brought
- 36:28Speaker 2: in Dana Holgers in two weeks ago as an analyst
- 36:31Speaker 2: and now he's the offensive coordinator and no one lost
- 36:33Speaker 2: a job, you know, like it doesn't matter anymore.
- 36:38Speaker 4: That's whil they got rid of the rule.
- 36:40Speaker 2: The Connor Stallion stuff was that might have a little
- 36:43Speaker 2: more impact on what's going on in the field, but
- 36:47Speaker 2: everyone was doing it and they're the ones who got
- 36:49Speaker 2: caught kind of energy as well.
- 36:50Speaker 1: So I don't know what's the point.
- 36:54Speaker 3: It's basically just they broke a rule nobody cares about.
- 36:56Speaker 1: So they classed them on the wrist.
- 36:58Speaker 3: Yes, someone tipped them off and they just had do
- 37:02Speaker 3: something about it.
- 37:06Speaker 1: Last thing I guess that we're gonna see I guess
- 37:08Speaker 1: from USC and then our offense that we haven't mentioned yet,
- 37:13Speaker 1: there's gonna be tempo.
- 37:15Speaker 2: They're gonna be tempo, and their quarterback is gonna run,
- 37:17Speaker 2: which I think we're not gonna do well against that.
- 37:20Speaker 1: For whatever reason, we just truckle effect when there's that
- 37:23Speaker 1: dual threat, and sometimes they're not even supposed to be
- 37:28Speaker 1: dual threat and we make them dual threat. Luke Altmeyer
- 37:33Speaker 1: aka uh.
- 37:36Speaker 4: Who is the quarterback for Indiana?
- 37:40Speaker 1: Uh space cop or something like that. Also Ethan Garber's
- 37:46Speaker 1: last work. Like, they all just seem to get more
- 37:50Speaker 1: rushing yards than they usually do against us. So that's
- 37:55Speaker 1: gonna be a challenge I think, to scheme for defensively,
- 37:58Speaker 1: like I said, and if we can, if we can
- 38:00Speaker 1: hit him a few times and maybe get him a
- 38:02Speaker 1: little bit impatient in the pocket to where we can
- 38:06Speaker 1: say okay, like he's gonna start running and we can
- 38:10Speaker 1: just now scheme for that better and we're not asked
- 38:14Speaker 1: worried about the passing game, and it kind of takes
- 38:17Speaker 1: away some of those playmakers we mentioned earlier in Lemon
- 38:19Speaker 1: and Branch and Lane. That helps us out a ton.
- 38:23Speaker 1: I think the start of this game is so so, so,
- 38:26Speaker 1: so so so important because if it if it's unpredictable,
- 38:32Speaker 1: and I mean, let's look at some of these games
- 38:34Speaker 1: the way they've gone, the ones that we've lost, the
- 38:37Speaker 1: u c l A Indiana Illinois, Like what's happened on
- 38:41Speaker 1: these first drives, Like it's scary. It sets the tone
- 38:47Speaker 1: for how the game could go anything else. Offense.
- 38:52Speaker 2: I guess my only thing is I just don't know
- 38:53Speaker 2: why they're making the switch, which makes me wonder what's
- 38:56Speaker 2: going on because Moss wasn't bad by any means. I
- 39:00Speaker 2: don't know if maybe they're looking for that more dynamic aspect,
- 39:04Speaker 2: but I mean Moss was He had like eighteen touchdowns,
- 39:08Speaker 2: nine interceptions, Like that's.
- 39:09Speaker 1: Not from what I've heard, like it people watching it's
- 39:14Speaker 1: talking about him. He has not been playing quotable, but
- 39:17Speaker 1: it could be a sick I mean, it's funny flipping around.
- 39:21Speaker 1: You think USC is going, what in the hell, why
- 39:23Speaker 1: is Nebraska changing coordinators? Are five and four? Right? What what?
- 39:30Speaker 3: Now?
- 39:31Speaker 1: Go look at the schedules.
- 39:32Speaker 2: You look at the spores right. That's the other thing
- 39:35Speaker 2: is like they're they're still scoring. You know, USC they
- 39:38Speaker 2: lost last week twenty one to six, but they put
- 39:40Speaker 2: up forty two on Ruckers, twenty eight on Maryland, thirty
- 39:43Speaker 2: on Penn State, bad week against Minnesota, thirty eight against Wisconsin,
- 39:47Speaker 2: forty eight against Utustic. Like, you know, they're putting up points.
- 39:51Speaker 2: So it does either it makes me scared that Moss
- 39:54Speaker 2: is They're just like, we can't keep this guy on
- 39:56Speaker 2: the bench, Like this dude's the dude Like.
- 40:01Speaker 4: Sorry, ma, yes I have his name.
- 40:07Speaker 2: That's what worries me, is like they might just be like, yeah,
- 40:09Speaker 2: this guy is a freaking baller and loss hasn't played bad,
- 40:14Speaker 2: but he's lost the starting job because this guy is
- 40:16Speaker 2: absolutely killing it in practice.
- 40:22Speaker 3: I think they had the thoughts on the practice, but
- 40:24Speaker 3: I think there is a little more to it. I
- 40:27Speaker 3: think Lincoln Ridley likes a dual threat quarterback better. He's
- 40:30Speaker 3: always he's always performed better with dual threats. I mean,
- 40:33Speaker 3: you look back at Hurts, Kyler Baker, Baker can move.
- 40:39Speaker 3: I can't think of Okay, Caleb Williams, they.
- 40:44Speaker 1: All could move. Did that just hurt you to say
- 40:48Speaker 1: out loud?
- 40:49Speaker 2: Yeah? They're running back averages five point seven yards of carry.
- 40:54Speaker 2: So I just I'm a little confused. I don't know
- 40:56Speaker 2: if they think it's so. I'm worried that he's just
- 40:59Speaker 2: gonna be really freaking good. It's not like, oh, we
- 41:02Speaker 2: need someone who can move the ball because the run
- 41:03Speaker 2: game's not working or our past game is not working.
- 41:06Speaker 3: I wish I watched more USC because I don't know
- 41:09Speaker 3: why they changed either from the stats wise, and I
- 41:11Speaker 3: read it was because he was too inaccurate stati wise.
- 41:16Speaker 3: I didn't see that. I so I didn't watch any
- 41:18Speaker 3: of them. I don't know, but he looked great.
- 41:21Speaker 5: A into the LSU other side of the ball here
- 41:30Speaker 5: you mentioned they're scoring points and their problem I guess
- 41:33Speaker 5: once again this year has been on the defensive side
- 41:35Speaker 5: of the ball.
- 41:37Speaker 1: Lincoln Riley brings Alex Grinch with him. First year last
- 41:40Speaker 1: year was I mean it was a true yeah, buddy.
- 41:50Speaker 1: I will say Grinch, though, has had good defenses, like
- 41:54Speaker 1: in the past. He had a couple of decent ones.
- 41:56Speaker 1: So it's not like Sadderfield, you know, who didn't have
- 41:59Speaker 1: a much of a resume. But they got rid of
- 42:02Speaker 1: him after uh is it first year? Right? Got rid
- 42:07Speaker 1: of hm after one year? Yeah? There stoo years.
- 42:11Speaker 4: I think it was halfway through last year you got so.
- 42:16Speaker 1: The guy they bring in is the defensive coordinator for
- 42:21Speaker 1: U c l A who kept U c l A
- 42:25Speaker 1: in a lot of games last year, Dantne Lynn. He
- 42:31Speaker 1: runs a base three four. They still have not been
- 42:37Speaker 1: great though, at stopping opponents, specifically in the passing game.
- 42:43Speaker 1: I think the one stat here to mention is opposing
- 42:47Speaker 1: teams are passing the highest completion percentage than any other
- 42:52Speaker 1: team in the conference in the conference. So how that
- 42:58Speaker 1: plays into what we decided to do this week, I
- 43:00Speaker 1: don't know. Now, Austin, We're going back to it and
- 43:04Speaker 1: forget your prediction is the Heinrich Harberg will be starting
- 43:11Speaker 1: and playing and Dylan Royola will not play. I will
- 43:14Speaker 1: say this, not of you saw Roola was listed as
- 43:16Speaker 1: the first on the depth chart and it was not
- 43:18Speaker 1: a release. But that obviously does not mean anything. I
- 43:22Speaker 1: mean that things could change. Yeah, I guess talk about that.
- 43:29Speaker 2: Well, I just I thought it was honestly more that
- 43:33Speaker 2: coach smoke. Where's hey, Dylan's gonna be back? But really
- 43:37Speaker 2: he's not. I mean, I guess he does have an
- 43:39Speaker 2: extra bye week, but I will expect that we see
- 43:43Speaker 2: more Heinrich regardless of Dylan starts. They're bad against the pass,
- 43:50Speaker 2: which I obviously that benefits Dylan. We brought in an
- 43:53Speaker 2: offensive coordinator who calls more passing plays, which should also
- 43:56Speaker 2: benefit Dylan.
- 43:59Speaker 1: But I just.
- 44:00Speaker 2: I I think if Heinrich starts, I'm not gonna say
- 44:06Speaker 2: it helps us, but it's just a different fold to
- 44:09Speaker 2: the offense that we've kind of been missing that if
- 44:12Speaker 2: Dylan's not one hundred percent, I'd rather have one hundred percent.
- 44:16Speaker 4: Capable quarterback than like a seventy percent Riola.
- 44:25Speaker 3: Yeah, I think against against USC, I think you definitely
- 44:28Speaker 3: not right a lot to play. Like you said, their
- 44:29Speaker 3: past defense is terror it's pretty bad.
- 44:34Speaker 1: I don't. I think.
- 44:37Speaker 3: I think if be able to move the ball into
- 44:38Speaker 3: the defense, it's better than it was, but it's still
- 44:40Speaker 3: not great. I mean, lincol Riley can never have a
- 44:44Speaker 3: good defense, but yeah, you'll be able to move the
- 44:49Speaker 3: ball on them. Another another thing I was thinking about
- 44:52Speaker 3: is when it was the last time you can think
- 44:55Speaker 3: of that you went into a game you have zero clout.
- 44:57Speaker 3: Either offense is gonna look like you don't know how
- 45:00Speaker 3: either one.
- 45:01Speaker 1: Is a quarterback. It's your quarterback is going to be
- 45:07Speaker 1: you don't. I guess I'm the opposite of Austin where
- 45:11Speaker 1: I think that I don't think Ryola was ever hurt
- 45:17Speaker 1: and maybe like bruised. I just don't. I don't think
- 45:23Speaker 1: that he ever had anything seriously wrong with him, and
- 45:28Speaker 1: I think he'll be obviously back in playing. I do
- 45:31Speaker 1: think that Heinrich probably is gonna somehow fight his way
- 45:35Speaker 1: on the field in different packages. I think Rule said
- 45:41Speaker 1: it though, like one of their flaws, and you heard
- 45:45Speaker 1: it as he talked this year leading into this year
- 45:48Speaker 1: and then especially early on this year when we were winning,
- 45:53Speaker 1: about getting this guy touched, this guy touched, this guy touch.
- 45:58Speaker 1: We're trying to get this guy, you know. He he
- 46:00Speaker 1: he tried to talk up all these players, not tried
- 46:02Speaker 1: to he did talk up all these players, and then
- 46:04Speaker 1: therefore tried to get them all involved in the offense.
- 46:06Speaker 1: And it just got to be so much versus just
- 46:09Speaker 1: saying no like, this is what we're gonna do to
- 46:11Speaker 1: win games, and I don't really care how it happens.
- 46:16Speaker 1: I think Heinrich is one that I think they tried
- 46:20Speaker 1: to get in touches and it just I don't know.
- 46:22Speaker 1: It seems like it came in all sports has all
- 46:26Speaker 1: been so random, and I don't know if it's helped
- 46:28Speaker 1: as much, and so like maybe it is a drive
- 46:31Speaker 1: where he is totally the quarterback for the entire possession
- 46:37Speaker 1: and it's a little bit schemed differently. I think the
- 46:40Speaker 1: offense is gonna, like we've mentioned, to look differently, but
- 46:42Speaker 1: we just don't know how. We just we don't have
- 46:44Speaker 1: an idea of what it could be. You know, you
- 46:47Speaker 1: hope you see more creativity and unpredictability, I guess is
- 46:50Speaker 1: what I'm looking for. And I hope those two things
- 46:55Speaker 1: alone may lead to guys being more white open and
- 47:00Speaker 1: not because they're doing anything much different with their footwork
- 47:05Speaker 1: or but it's just a scheme is a little bit
- 47:08Speaker 1: more creative and confusing to prepare for. You have time
- 47:13Speaker 1: to do that, like, there's time to put that in.
- 47:15Speaker 1: It's hard to know, though, because we're not gonna be
- 47:17Speaker 1: able to execute it much at all before we play
- 47:22Speaker 1: probably the biggest game of the year so far, so
- 47:26Speaker 1: all that lumped in. I just I don't know, Like
- 47:29Speaker 1: you Deck you said, you just don't know what it's
- 47:31Speaker 1: gonna You don't know what it's gonna look like. You
- 47:33Speaker 1: have no idea, which makes it so much fun to
- 47:36Speaker 1: watch as a fan because you don't have an idea,
- 47:41Speaker 1: and normally we can make a prediction. I just hope
- 47:45Speaker 1: that points speak for themselves in a positive way versus Oh,
- 47:54Speaker 1: things looked better, like but we only scored fourteen, but
- 47:58Speaker 1: they looked better, They looked more creative, It looked like
- 48:01Speaker 1: we had something going Like I don't. I don't want
- 48:03Speaker 1: to be sitting here on Sunday talking about how we
- 48:05Speaker 1: thought our offense looked better, but we lost thirty four
- 48:08Speaker 1: to twenty or thirty four to fourteen seventeen because we
- 48:13Speaker 1: didn't play well. Like I that just would not be fun.
- 48:16Speaker 1: But it's gonna happen. Yeah, that's that's kind of how
- 48:22Speaker 1: I think it's gonna go for you. So and then
- 48:30Speaker 1: you guys, are you guys hoping for the air raid?
- 48:34Speaker 1: I don't.
- 48:34Speaker 4: I'm not hoping for for a successful offense.
- 48:37Speaker 1: I don't. I don't know what I just don't know
- 48:39Speaker 1: what that is. I I don't know that anybody knows
- 48:42Speaker 1: what that is. I don't think the coaching staff knows
- 48:44Speaker 1: what that is. That's why they hired Rand another outsider,
- 48:48Speaker 1: Like that's the reason why it happened, because they didn't
- 48:53Speaker 1: know either. And again I don't I don't like to
- 48:55Speaker 1: use the word incompetent, but I just don't know if
- 48:57Speaker 1: the staff really knew, Like world didn't know. He's like,
- 49:00Speaker 1: I don't know what to do. I'm gonna bring in
- 49:01Speaker 1: a guy. Here's the other scenario, kind of tying it
- 49:05Speaker 1: back into our real future conversation that I don't know
- 49:10Speaker 1: if it's across your guys's mind. But Jackson texted media
- 49:13Speaker 1: last night. He goes, I can't wait for when we
- 49:15Speaker 1: beat USC and everyone talks about how we want Dana
- 49:18Speaker 1: as our head coach in the future.
- 49:22Speaker 3: I actually did think about the other day, say say
- 49:27Speaker 3: he comes down just rocksy next three games.
- 49:31Speaker 1: I mean, I mean, seriously, what if it comes down
- 49:33Speaker 1: to Yeah, it's really it's really good, so good to
- 49:38Speaker 1: the fact that, I mean, let's be let's be real.
- 49:40Speaker 1: If we win these last three games, and because our
- 49:42Speaker 1: offense looks better and our defense just holds to being
- 49:45Speaker 1: what they have been.
- 49:46Speaker 4: He is gonna be a head coach somewhere else.
- 49:48Speaker 1: Yeah, someone's gonna try to take him. So the talk
- 49:50Speaker 1: after the season is gonna be what do if he's
- 49:54Speaker 1: gonna leave? Why don't we keep him? Instead of rule like,
- 49:58Speaker 1: that's gonna be the time, happy will that will be
- 50:01Speaker 1: what happens. So it's just funny to think about if
- 50:06Speaker 1: things go well because our offense goes well, it's weird.
- 50:11Speaker 2: I appreciate Jackson's optimism that, you know, when we go
- 50:17Speaker 2: out and beat USC because our offense rolls him. But
- 50:21Speaker 2: I don't think any of us on this podcast or
- 50:23Speaker 2: in Nebraska need to worry about that.
- 50:27Speaker 1: Uh So, score predictions and then we'll go to Dax pics.
- 50:31Speaker 4: Twenty seven twenty four USC.
- 50:38Speaker 3: Let's go thirty four to twenty USC. No, hold, that'll
- 50:41Speaker 3: be it ties in my picks, So twenty seven to
- 50:43Speaker 3: twenty USC. Now, what I hope happens is eight hundred
- 50:50Speaker 3: to zero Nebraska. I hope that Lincoln Ryan gets fired
- 50:54Speaker 3: after this game.
- 50:56Speaker 4: And then we can hire him as offensive coordinator.
- 50:58Speaker 1: I'm on here, you go right this weekend? Ready, for
- 51:02Speaker 1: this thirty five thirty one USC Wow, you have offense
- 51:13Speaker 1: roles defense. It's kind of like Illinois game. Yeah, I
- 51:20Speaker 1: don't know. I mean this prediction. I very easily could
- 51:24Speaker 1: have convinced myself to say thirteen to ten defense plays
- 51:29Speaker 1: phenomenal offense, not enough time to get anything implement. It
- 51:32Speaker 1: still sucks. We turn it over three times, we lose it.
- 51:36Speaker 3: I don't think us he is capable of playing thirteen
- 51:38Speaker 3: ten game.
- 51:40Speaker 4: I don't think so any other.
- 51:43Speaker 1: So then if we only score ten, that means they're
- 51:45Speaker 1: getting beat thirty eight to ten.
- 51:46Speaker 2: Yeah, it's gonna be a close loss with the medium
- 51:51Speaker 2: level scoring or they're going to kill us.
- 51:56Speaker 1: All right, Dak, do you give your record from last
- 51:57Speaker 1: week five and five. I believe we haven't done this recently,
- 52:05Speaker 1: and we didn't have it midweek podcast last week, so
- 52:13Speaker 1: Dak didn't officially get his picks in, so you should
- 52:17Speaker 1: just said ten to.
- 52:17Speaker 3: Oh yeah, we went over it though.
- 52:21Speaker 1: You are seventy four sixty six and one, so you're
- 52:27Speaker 1: hitting it about about fifty two and a half percent.
- 52:31Speaker 1: That's about pretty much close to breaking even on the money.
- 52:36Speaker 1: And then your locks. You have a lock last week? Yeah,
- 52:40Speaker 1: I lost. I don't.
- 52:41Speaker 3: I don't remember what it was. I probably have written
- 52:43Speaker 3: down here it lost. Let's see, it was army. It
- 52:47Speaker 3: was Army minus twenty two.
- 52:49Speaker 1: Yep, that did not happen. So yeah, you're fifty percent
- 52:53Speaker 1: on your on your locks as well. You started off hot,
- 52:56Speaker 1: you're back pretty much even. You know what, it could
- 52:59Speaker 1: be a lot worse. You know what we're gonna do
- 53:02Speaker 1: next year. I'm just I'm just deciding this right now.
- 53:06Speaker 1: You have to bet every single one of your games
- 53:12Speaker 1: because it'll be legal. No, like, it's gonna be legal
- 53:18Speaker 1: pretty close to it online and I mean it is
- 53:20Speaker 1: legal if you go in person. That that way you can,
- 53:24Speaker 1: you know what, Like you can put your money where
- 53:26Speaker 1: your mouth is. And it's not just throwing out ten randos.
- 53:28Speaker 1: And you know, if you only want to have two
- 53:31Speaker 1: and only have two, if you want to have ten,
- 53:32Speaker 1: have ten. Okay, But we're gonna, we're gonna, we're gonna,
- 53:36Speaker 1: we're gonna and you can make a unit whatever you
- 53:38Speaker 1: want it to make it. But if you want to
- 53:40Speaker 1: put more on a game because you feel confident in it,
- 53:42Speaker 1: we can. We're gonna mix it up a little bit. Okay,
- 53:47Speaker 1: So if you want to just end of this year,
- 53:49Speaker 1: go ahead, but I know you're not ready for that.
- 53:50Speaker 1: This week, no, we.
- 53:57Speaker 3: You know what, screw it, Let's just give out five
- 54:00Speaker 3: I'll bet, I'll bet in this week five picks.
- 54:03Speaker 1: I love this week five picks a unit, and you
- 54:06Speaker 1: can say, so let's go a little gambling, little little
- 54:10Speaker 1: sports betting talk here. Yeah, we're getting the league. It's getting.
- 54:13Speaker 1: It's legal in Nebraska now, so we can publicly talk
- 54:15Speaker 1: about it here. By the way, the new new sports
- 54:19Speaker 1: book is open and Lincoln I have not been. I
- 54:24Speaker 1: haven't either. A unit can be It's basically, what if
- 54:30Speaker 1: you're going to play a game whatever, that's a unit.
- 54:33Speaker 1: Obviously you're more confident in a game you can go
- 54:37Speaker 1: two units. So let's say your unit is one dollar, right,
- 54:41Speaker 1: if you go three units, it's three dollars. Maybe your
- 54:43Speaker 1: one unit play is twenty dollars. If you go two units,
- 54:46Speaker 1: it's a forty dollars bet. Because you're more confident in it,
- 54:49Speaker 1: we don't have to say what your units are. I
- 54:51Speaker 1: think Dave Portnoy's units are like ten grand is one unit,
- 54:55Speaker 1: So that puts it into perspective a little bit. Dack,
- 55:01Speaker 1: do you want to put a little more is twenty
- 55:03Speaker 1: five dollars. Yeah, you don't have to tell us that.
- 55:07Speaker 1: The more you can. I just want to. I want
- 55:09Speaker 1: to hear where you're going. Where's the money going this week?
- 55:13Speaker 3: So see I mean tell you, like what units I've
- 55:15Speaker 3: put on these games? Basically?
- 55:18Speaker 1: Yeah, okay, so i'd go one unit? What not? Not?
- 55:22Speaker 1: What you would? What you would? What you're going to?
- 55:28Speaker 1: Oh okay, I'm gonna put you're doing this, yep. I
- 55:32Speaker 1: put one unit on.
- 55:35Speaker 3: Boy, I gotta find these five games. Let's go Tennessee
- 55:39Speaker 3: plus ten against Georgia.
- 55:43Speaker 1: Oh wondering.
- 55:48Speaker 3: Now, I will say I if Nico doesn't play, I
- 55:51Speaker 3: will know if I that bet, so that that one's
- 55:53Speaker 3: gonna be game time decision on that bet.
- 55:56Speaker 1: If Nico plays, it'll be plus. Well, I will give
- 56:00Speaker 1: you time up until the game to put it in.
- 56:04Speaker 1: That's one bet. If Nico doesn't play, that that BET's
- 56:08Speaker 1: no offied. Okay, So now it's up to if you
- 56:12Speaker 1: put it in though, like if you put the bet
- 56:14Speaker 1: and then it's in. If you don't, then it's not in.
- 56:18Speaker 1: True okay.
- 56:21Speaker 3: Next one one unit on James masson my three against
- 56:24Speaker 3: own dominion. I love you know what. Actually that's a
- 56:29Speaker 3: two unit game. I really liked that one a lot.
- 56:33Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 56:34Speaker 3: I just know James Masson beat the dog pace o
- 56:36Speaker 3: North Carolina.
- 56:36Speaker 2: That's it.
- 56:37Speaker 3: So you know the manius record didn't look good. So
- 56:40Speaker 3: there we go another blind bet right there?
- 56:42Speaker 1: All right? One unit.
- 56:46Speaker 3: On Nebraska plus nine against USC. I think nine is
- 56:51Speaker 3: too much, like you said it should be around I'm
- 56:54Speaker 3: with you a five and a half five. I don't
- 56:58Speaker 3: get where that nine is coming from. Maybe they think
- 57:01Speaker 3: this new quarterback is super good. I don't know. I
- 57:05Speaker 3: think the brass offense look better. It'll be like seven
- 57:09Speaker 3: or less point game, all right, And then let's go
- 57:15Speaker 3: one more unit on Illinois tow and a half against
- 57:17Speaker 3: Michigan State. Illinois I think is a better team than
- 57:24Speaker 3: Michigan State. Other than that, that's it.
- 57:27Speaker 1: There we go. What a reasoning?
- 57:31Speaker 3: Well, I just think Alt Myer's better than whatever the
- 57:33Speaker 3: hell of Michigan State is gonna roll out there. They've
- 57:36Speaker 3: kind of I don't know, kind's fallen off a map though,
- 57:37Speaker 3: since Nebraska next one last one two units on BYU
- 57:42Speaker 3: minus two and a half against Kansas.
