- 0:05Welcome to The Hypnotist, the show that gives you inside
- 0:09access to cutting edge hypnosis with real clients facing
- 0:12genuine. Issues.
- 0:13Brought to you by The Hypnotherapist, demanded by
- 0:16celebrities, CEOs and even royalty, Adam Cox.
- 0:20These recordings took place live from Evans Clinic in London's
- 0:24world famous Harley Street. So get yourself comfortable and
- 0:31enjoy today's episode of The Hypnotist.
- 0:39Hi, it's Adam here. And in this hypnosis session
- 0:42you're going to be listening to hypnosis for not just stress,
- 0:46but we're talking extreme stress.
- 0:49I was working with a client that had a very very high level job
- 0:54and with. That came.
- 0:56Very high level responsibilities and lots of demands.
- 1:00A useful way of defining stress. You can't just say it's
- 1:04demanding. It has to be.
- 1:06Demanding alongside the resources.
- 1:09You have the resources on one side and the demands on the
- 1:11other, and if demands are high but you feel really resourceful,
- 1:15generally this is what's called a flow state.
- 1:18So you feel really resourceful and you get lots of things done,
- 1:22and that's really good. But what can happen is if the
- 1:25demands exceed the resources, that can feel very, very
- 1:29stressful. They exceed it by a lot.
- 1:31That can actually feel overwhelming.
- 1:33And sometimes that amount of stress can lead to health issues
- 1:38or lack of sleep, which then make the person even less
- 1:42resourceful, which then feels even more demanding.
- 1:46And if that then links to people thinking about what if I lose my
- 1:49job? What if this happens?
- 1:50That can then increase anxiety by thinking about what can go
- 1:54wrong, which increases the demands even more.
- 1:57So it can feel like a cycle. It can feel like a vicious cycle
- 2:01where one thing feeds on the other, feeds on the other.
- 2:04And the client I was working with did have genuine health
- 2:06issues, but also the demands of a very demanding role.
- 2:11They even perceived things like Christmas as demands.
- 2:15It was have to buy presents, have to go to certain places,
- 2:18and that felt draining. So what you're going to hear in
- 2:20this is framing the whole thing in a way that feels more based
- 2:25on choice and empowerment and giving it meanings that are
- 2:30going to be more conducive. To a.
- 2:32Calmer, more relaxed nervous system and sometimes that comes
- 2:36from contrast or comparison or linking a new emotion.
- 2:41One of the key things that can lead to stress, by the way, is
- 2:44when people feel obligated. And the clue to obligation is
- 2:48using the word have to I have to do this.
- 2:52And when you feel obligated, that can then feel like you're
- 2:55coerced or forced or trapped. That feels less like it's a
- 2:59choice. If you say I get to do this, it
- 3:02can feel very different. A lot of people will say I have
- 3:06to go to work. I'm stuck in this job.
- 3:08Even this client said that the job is killing them.
- 3:11Now, none of those things are objectively true.
- 3:13What's actually true is that people are choosing to be in a
- 3:17particular job. Anyone could quit.
- 3:19It just comes with consequences. How do you pay the bills?
- 3:23But it feels. Very different from saying I'm
- 3:25stuck in. This job that I hate to, I'm
- 3:28choosing to work in this place for now.
- 3:31And that may sound like a very subtle shift, but from a
- 3:34biochemical and an autonomic nervous system response, that's
- 3:39a big difference. One feels like you're in.
- 3:42Prison. And the other feels like you're
- 3:44just choosing to do something because it's in your own
- 3:46interest. And that's a very calm nervous
- 3:48system on the 2nd and a very stressed nervous system in the
- 3:521st. So I appreciate I've given a bit
- 3:54of a detailed explanation as to what's happening in this
- 3:57hypnosis session. I think anyone with severe
- 4:00stress will benefit from this because it's very much about
- 4:04calming down the nervous system. But if you're stressed about
- 4:06Christmas or if you hate where you work?
- 4:08Right now whether? Or not you're planning on being
- 4:11self-employed or a consultant is immaterial.
- 4:14There's lots of suggestions here that are quite empowering and
- 4:17useful and conducive to improving health.
- 4:21That said, it was created for an individual.
- 4:23Some of these suggestions are incredibly specific to the
- 4:26client that I was working on and may not be at all relevant for
- 4:30you. So ignore any suggestions that
- 4:32aren't relevant, double down on the ones that are.
- 4:35And at the same time, if you like the idea of a bespoke
- 4:38session where you're working with me directly so we can
- 4:41actually build the session and you experience that live with
- 4:44me, there will be a link in the description in the show notes
- 4:48where you can schedule a completely free consultation
- 4:51call with me. For now though, you might
- 4:53actually get some value from this session.
- 4:55So find a quiet, comfortable place where you won't be
- 4:57disturbed, Relax and enjoy the session.
- 5:27Take a deep breath in and as you breathe in, breathe in a
- 5:36wonderful feeling of calm relaxation and as you exhale,
- 5:46feel a wonderful feeling of release, like a pressure valve
- 5:53just allowing stored up tension, stress, worries to be released
- 6:00in every outward breath. That's it.
- 6:05Breathing in calm, relaxation and releasing as you extend that
- 6:13outward breath for longer than it would normally be.
- 6:20And when you breathe in, breathe in for deeper.
- 6:27So much so that each breath takes you deeper and deeper,
- 6:38relaxed. That's it.
- 6:41And maybe you could imagine one of those old pressure cookers,
- 6:55perhaps an old fashioned steam engine.
- 7:01And I want you to get a sense then for a while now, all of
- 7:09these demands and all of these thoughts and all of these
- 7:14worries feel like they're all building up.
- 7:24And just imagine that steam engine or pressure cooker, if it
- 7:31didn't have that release valve, all that pressure would start
- 7:38causing problems. And I want you to get a sands
- 7:44that now, here, in this moment, give permission to release.
- 7:59Imagine on your outward breath seeing something dark or shadowy
- 8:06leaving your body as you exhale. And then imagine a resourceful
- 8:13healing colour that you breathe in through your nose or your
- 8:19mouth, breathing in what your body needs and exhaling all of
- 8:29these stresses, worries, but also any disempowering beliefs.
- 8:41All it takes is a false belief believed to be true to
- 8:49completely change biochemistry. If you felt with certainty that
- 8:59your life is in danger, your body would act as if that is
- 9:05true. And even if it's just a turn of
- 9:10phrase, thinking or believing that your job is killing you
- 9:21gives a problem that your unconscious is trying to solve.
- 9:29I want you to think of the face of a child, maybe 3-4 years old.
- 9:36How excited they were at the idea of Santa Claus putting a
- 9:42carrot out for a reindeer, a mince pie for Santa.
- 9:48And the excitement was real. Even if the underlying belief
- 9:54behind it was never true. And if that's true for a child,
- 10:03that could be true for you. You might be having real
- 10:09anxieties, real worries, real feelings of stress based on a
- 10:17belief that isn't even true. And therefore, if we change just
- 10:32one belief, what if this House of Cards that's been affecting
- 10:39your health all comes crumbling down?
- 10:46Because sometimes if people are stressed, they don't sleep well.
- 10:51They don't sleep well, they feel less resourceful the next day.
- 10:56Small things like buying a Christmas present feels like a
- 10:59big deal. And the stress feeds on stress
- 11:04feeds on stress. And let's start to reverse that
- 11:09vicious cycle. Because when you feel more
- 11:14resourceful, you start seeing the wood for the trees.
- 11:21And when you start evaluating what's real and what's just
- 11:26imagined, everything feels less overwhelming.
- 11:33And when things feel less overwhelming, you start thinking
- 11:41of all of those things you can do to improve your health even
- 11:47more. Two or three quick phone calls
- 11:54that might find a specialist that you need, or maybe treating
- 12:03buying Christmas presents or social occasions as things that
- 12:09recharge your batteries, not drain it as you breathe in and
- 12:15breathe out. I don't need to get a sense that
- 12:19you're feeling more hopeful, feeling more resourceful,
- 12:28feeling like you have more options to move things in the
- 12:35very direction that you desire. I want you to get a sense that
- 12:48you are awakening the part of your nervous system that knows
- 12:55how to rest, heal and relax. In fact, the slower you breathe
- 13:04and the longer that outward breath, the more you are
- 13:08signalling to your brain, your biology and your unconscious
- 13:15that you are safe to relax and heal.
- 13:21As you breathe out, just imagine the out breath or switching off
- 13:27the alarms that have been warning and blaring for too
- 13:31long. And now imagine yourself
- 13:36floating as if your body is held by warm, steady water, supported
- 13:45without effort, your muscles softening, your chest loosening,
- 13:53any tension, and your mind beginning to drift into that
- 14:00familiar trance where clarity starts to replace pressure and
- 14:09stress. And as you float, I wonder if
- 14:16you could imagine a dial in front of you, the dial of your
- 14:21nervous system from zero to 10. And I want you to see that your
- 14:27nervous system is in the red zone, perhaps an 8A9 or even
- 14:36A10. And I want you to imagine on
- 14:42each outward breath, as you release more of that tension
- 14:47pressure, that number comes down.
- 14:53Let me get into an 8 or A7. Each outward breath exit 1
- 15:02number downwards. Seven goes to six, six goes to
- 15:10five. And feel your body releasing,
- 15:15relaxing with each outward breath.
- 15:22Five goes to four, and then four to three.
- 15:26And maybe you don't want it all the way at one.
- 15:30Maybe you want some pressure, some tension to ensure you do
- 15:38what needs to be done. But I want you to feel you've
- 15:42dialed it all the way down. At least for now.
- 15:47Right now, calm relaxation is the dominant signal in your
- 15:54body. Remind yourself you're just a
- 16:01few phone calls away from solving and resolving what would
- 16:09be an unknown issue had you not discovered it.
- 16:16I want you to feel that that is a good thing.
- 16:20It's good that you know, and it's good that the solution is
- 16:26something within your control. And I wonder for just how many
- 16:36problems and demands in every area of your life.
- 16:45I wonder for how many of those that the solutions already
- 16:50exist. People you can delegate, things
- 16:57you can prioritize, support you can use, and every breath you
- 17:06take in this calm state brings your mind closer to the
- 17:13resourceful version of you. Version of you who handles what
- 17:18needs to be handled. One step at a time, and
- 17:24certainly not all at once. Because you can't do it all at
- 17:33once. Do what you can the best you
- 17:40can, trusting that your future self will deal with future
- 17:45problems as you allow your current self to deal with
- 17:51current demands. And just allow your mind to
- 17:58drift toward Christmas and allow your unconscious to give it a
- 18:09new narrative, a new way of thinking about it.
- 18:16Some people think of Christmas as a list of things to do,
- 18:22places to be, things that are just a drain of time, energy and
- 18:29emotion. Some people look at it as a
- 18:34magical time full of wonder, excitement, connection and joy.
- 18:39And just allow your unconscious to reactivate that part of you
- 18:48where Christmas would be something that charges your
- 18:53batteries, not drains in something you get to do, not an
- 18:58obligation you have to do. And I want you to think perhaps
- 19:07of just one person that would love to be able to give presents
- 19:13or receive them, share a meal with close ones, and yet can't.
- 19:22And sometimes contrast is all you need to feel grateful, to
- 19:29feel privileged, to feel that it's something you choose to do,
- 19:37not have to do. Some people think of a an
- 19:45incredible vacation as a list of itineraries and problems and
- 19:53situations. And other people treat a
- 19:56vacation as something that really charges the boundaries.
- 20:02And whatever area of your life that thing charges your
- 20:08boundaries. Just allow the neural plasticity
- 20:14in your brain to map that feeling and apply it to
- 20:19Christmas. And maybe, maybe there's already
- 20:26things that make you feel that way, to become the thin end of
- 20:33the wedge that expands. Maybe the joy in someone's face
- 20:39when they open a present that you've chosen for them.
- 20:46Think of that moment, perhaps from the past, and allow that
- 20:50feeling to expand. Feel it expanding.
- 20:57Warmth, connection, something to appreciate.
- 21:04So many people spend Christmas alone, and you are not one of
- 21:10them. So allow that gratitude and
- 21:14appreciation to release even more of those demands pulling on
- 21:22your nervous system. And as it's released, feel
- 21:26lighter, more relaxed. These moments could remind you
- 21:33that you're supported, connected, and not isolated, so
- 21:40allow it to recharge you from the inside by plugging your
- 21:45emotional batteries into a source of warmth.
- 21:51And now move your mind naturally to work.
- 21:58For a while you feel like you've been like a rat in a cage with
- 22:05no way out, or perhaps trapped, stuck, secured by those golden
- 22:14handcuffs. At one point you even believed
- 22:19that the job is killing you, and now you know that's not true.
- 22:29I want you to replace all of our beliefs with one that you are
- 22:36choosing to work there for now. That ensures your nervous system
- 22:45knows that it is a choice, not a trap, not an obligation, and for
- 22:53now tells your unconscious that it is temporary and when
- 22:59situations change, you can leave to say this to yourself.
- 23:08I am choosing to work here for now.
- 23:15Say it internally. Feel the difference?
- 23:18Because choice creates control, and control creates agency, and
- 23:26agency dissolves helplessness. So feel that shift.
- 23:37And what if you are just a few weeks from improving health with
- 23:44less pain? And maybe that comes from
- 23:50thinking differently about your life.
- 23:54Maybe it comes from acupuncture, finding the right combination of
- 24:00foods to eat in your diet. We're just resolving that issue
- 24:06in your home. You don't know which one or
- 24:13combination of things will work. Just believe that something
- 24:18will, and when it does, it creates an option without an
- 24:26obligation. An option to keep the security
- 24:31and gain the freedom. To have a.
- 24:35Future where you're doing things for yourself with autonomy and
- 24:40confidence. I want you to think that there's
- 24:46just two things necessary to escape that cage, escape that
- 24:51maze to unlock the handcuffs, security of future work but for
- 24:59yourself, and clues that your health is improving.
- 25:05This is a winnable game not years from now, but perhaps
- 25:13weeks from now. And when you operate from
- 25:18choice, the whole board changes. And I want you to feel all those
- 25:26old loops of learned helplessness breaking apart at
- 25:32their weakest points. Feel a rising sense of
- 25:38resourcefulness filling that space where fear and insecurity
- 25:48and feeling trapped and stuck used to live.
- 25:52In fact, feel the internal posture shift from I'm trapped
- 26:00to something more empowering, like I'm building my exit with
- 26:05clarity and control. Some people believe that where
- 26:10focus goes, energy flows. And if your focus is on
- 26:17resentment, being stuck, trapped, no options, imagine how
- 26:26your body would respond to that perception.
- 26:32But when you start to feel that there's things you can do to
- 26:38lower your stress, to increase resourcefulness and decrease
- 26:44demands. And I want you to start thinking
- 26:48of a future where you see yourself healthy, your digestive
- 26:55system is calm, your body's stable.
- 27:02What choices with foods and breathing deeply, without
- 27:07effort, clear eyed and confident.
- 27:12Imagine yourself in just a few months time working for
- 27:17yourself, consulting on your terms, earning on your terms,
- 27:26living with both security and autonomy.
- 27:31And you're not running from your job, just evolving it into the
- 27:37next phase. And you're building that bridge
- 27:41step by step and hold that version of you in front of you
- 27:53came out the other side lighter, calmer, stronger, even more
- 27:58capable. And allow your unconscious to
- 28:03lock it in like the destination on a sat NAV because this is now
- 28:11the direction that you are moving towards.
- 28:20Take one more slow breath and feel that pressure cooker, that
- 28:25steam engine is now completely released.
- 28:30All of that pressure the arrow back in the Green Zone and
- 28:38imagine yourself floating all the way back to the present, but
- 28:44with more of a sense of hope, optimism, and that the game is
- 28:50most definitely winnable. Take a deep breath in through
- 28:57your eyes and out. Just release everything from
- 29:05your eyelids to your jaw, your chest, all the way down to your
- 29:09gut, all the way down to your toes.
- 29:13That's in wiggle your fingers, wiggle your toes.
- 29:16Start to calibrate with the here and the now as I now count from
- 29:201:00 to 10:00 to awaken you starting to count 123 waking up
- 29:31456 more alert 7-8 open your eyes.
- 29:35Open your eyes 910 Wide awake, Wide awake.
- 29:43Wide awake. Thank you so much for.
