- 0:00Welcome to multiple nerdgasm with your hosts, Matt.
- 0:06Luke. And Dan multiple Nerdgasm, your
- 0:11guide to all things nerdy. Well, I've done it.
- 0:24I finally watched Stranger Things.
- 0:26The whole thing. Not not the whole thing.
- 0:28Unfortunately. We're only up to episode 4 or 5.
- 0:31Of Season 5. Yes.
- 0:32So I'm up to the part where I thought you were.
- 0:35Going to say no Season 1. And I was like, we can't talk
- 0:38about that, man. I don't remember.
- 0:40No, I'm up to the part where they just took the children out
- 0:43of the toilet and then. Be sure it's Stranger Things
- 0:49you're watching and not something it's the dark web.
- 0:53Although I'm pretty sure it's Stranger Things, but yeah, I'm
- 0:56up to the yeah through the floor.
- 0:59And then they still got the kids anyway.
- 1:02Right. Yeah.
- 1:04But one thing I want to say is at the start of it, the very
- 1:08first episode, I found it quite strange because they go through
- 1:12will storyline in Yonder upside down, the world upside down,
- 1:19upside down and he's managing to get a shotgun and shooting stuff
- 1:24and all this stuff. There's the whole storyline of
- 1:27Season 1 was the reason why he was able to get away from it is
- 1:30because he was good at hiding. Right, that's.
- 1:34Very different to getting a shotgun.
- 1:37Yeah, there's, I mean, there's a lot of stuff that changed over
- 1:41over the time, you know, as they realized, oh, hang on, we need
- 1:44to wrap this up somehow. Yeah, but I'm enjoying it so
- 1:47far. Yeah, no, it's good.
- 1:50Like I mean like I. Really AM.
- 1:53You need to people get people were very upset about it.
- 1:59It's ATV show that they didn't plan on making this much of they
- 2:03had to just kind of go with it. So it took some there was no
- 2:08grand plan. This was never going to be
- 2:10perfect because they just made it up as they went along.
- 2:13Like because you love the kids so much, they had to keep making
- 2:17more with the kids like. Again, that wasn't.
- 2:19Their plan? Watching on Yeah exactly,
- 2:23exactly. Yeah.
- 2:25There was supposed to be one season and then done and then it
- 2:27was going to be about some other thing like the people, other
- 2:30story, whatever. It was like going to be like A
- 2:32and. They're going to play to our
- 2:33nostalgia again, just in a different decade, correct?
- 2:36It was not going to be about those kids anymore.
- 2:38And then people just were like, no, no more of those.
- 2:43More of those kids. Yeah, more of those kids ways.
- 2:46And so yeah, we ended up with we got, I think it's fine.
- 2:52That was good. I enjoyed it.
- 2:54I'm enjoying it and I think people need to stop picking
- 2:57things apart so much. Actually, I can appreciate that.
- 3:01It's not easy to do that, so yeah.
- 3:05But like it's. And I don't think they use
- 3:07ChatGPT. I've seen no evidence of that,
- 3:10despite what the Internet says. Well that's the reason why I
- 3:13think they will never make Half Life 3.
- 3:18Right expectations too, I know. Yeah, no one.
- 3:21If they want to make Half Life 3 it would be just destroyed in
- 3:26comments and negativity and because it's never going to live
- 3:30up to what people have built it up to be.
- 3:32And they don't need to like Steam's making all of the money
- 3:38so. It's still a private
- 3:40corporation, so it's not like it has to impress stakeholders.
- 3:43But why risk it? Just, you know, half life too.
- 3:48So fucking good. Actually, so was Half Life.
- 3:51What's the problem? Actually, I preferred Half Life
- 3:54to Half Life too. Yeah, Half Life too.
- 3:58Very much felt like drive here, kill these things, drive again,
- 4:02kill things, drive again. I think that's what it really
- 4:05felt like to me, whereas I don't know how far the first one just
- 4:09really got me. I feel like the first one would
- 4:13be hard to play now. Yes.
- 4:17It's the Black Mesa remake. But even that's very old now.
- 4:23Yeah, that's true. I met those guys at PAX.
- 4:27Didn't have much to talk about because I'm not particularly
- 4:32good at talking to people, but I can talk to you guys.
- 4:35Yeah, both of you who are both here?
- 4:38Both here. Yes, Dave should be very quiet.
- 4:42Again. And he's shy, he doesn't want to
- 4:44be shown, but he is here. He's here, He's just not going
- 4:47to be seen or heard. So I've seen this.
- 4:54I need to hear about this. The man from the Pokémon Company
- 4:57arrested for putting cameras in bathrooms.
- 5:00Yes, so oh, I didn't put the article in there.
- 5:04That's. No, so that's why I need more
- 5:06information. Oh boy, can I.
- 5:10Was he putting me in like the bathrooms at work or?
- 5:14Yes, and also let me find it. Here we go.
- 5:21Sorry, there's the article. Yes, a man like name him is
- 5:27named in the article Ben Tsai, a 44 year old man from Seattle in
- 5:32Washington. OK.
- 5:34Was arrested earlier this month after he allegedly hid a camera
- 5:36in a Starbucks bathroom. So he was arrested for that.
- 5:40Oh. He's putting it in a Starbucks
- 5:42bathroom, but then when he was questioned by the police, he
- 5:46said the reason he was putting cameras in the bathrooms.
- 5:51Yep, there's a reason for it. Yes, a reason.
- 5:54A reason. Yep, there's a perfectly
- 5:56reasonable explanation, and it is this.
- 5:58He was curious about transgender people.
- 6:03So, you know, victimless crime. Was he trying to take a poll of
- 6:09how many? So he, he, he, that's what he
- 6:14said. He said that.
- 6:15That's why he did it. And he was mainly curious about
- 6:19transgender people and was not attracted to children.
- 6:28OK, you know the best way to probably find out about
- 6:32transgendered people. Yeah, talk to them in the
- 6:35bathroom. Maybe just ask them?
- 6:40Yeah, you probably could talk to them.
- 6:42I like this too. This is a good quote too.
- 6:43He admitted to hiding cameras in various places no more than 50
- 6:47times. Oh.
- 6:49Come on, it's not like I did it a lot Yes.
- 6:54And he did tell them he had placed a camera in his workplace
- 6:57bathroom and then the police asked him are there any chance
- 7:00transgender people at work? And he said yes.
- 7:05So apparently that's what oh, and and that place of work,
- 7:10according to his now deleted LinkedIn, was the Pokémon
- 7:14Company. So yeah, they've said that the
- 7:20Pokémon Company have said that they don't know anything about
- 7:22this and they weren't investigating it because they
- 7:26didn't know until now. But if anybody has any
- 7:29information, they're asking them to come forward.
- 7:32And I'm pretty sure he's already no longer working there.
- 7:35Oh, he's been fired for sure. Yeah, Yeah.
- 7:37But but the other thing is OK, so he's done this no more than
- 7:40no more than 50. Times no more than 50 times,
- 7:42but. This is the first time anyone
- 7:43knew about it, so he's just got all this footage, has he?
- 7:48That's that. 'D be terrifying, that's just
- 7:50planting the camera like the camera's on for quite some time.
- 7:55And what I mean, what's he doing with it?
- 7:57He's just looking at it to. Just looking at.
- 8:00Curious about transgender, are you curious about what, exactly?
- 8:02Curious about how transgender people go to the toilet, Like,
- 8:05specifically? Yeah, that's what are you going
- 8:07to learn about them from just watching them on the toilet.
- 8:10Yes. Like you'll learn one thing.
- 8:13Do they sit or stand? Yeah.
- 8:14And then after that. There's there's, there's nothing
- 8:18else so. You're going to learn a lot
- 8:20about them as people. No, that's what I said.
- 8:24Like the best. If he wants to learn, talk.
- 8:28To them also, I feel like if I if I if I get arrested for
- 8:35filming people in toilets and I say this, I'm just curious about
- 8:39transgender people. I'm not attracted to children.
- 8:41Yeah, like like, OK, we didn't say well.
- 8:44We didn't say anything about children.
- 8:46You brought that off. Yeah.
- 8:48So there's no children at my work.
- 8:52I mean that is, that is. There is, but there's probably
- 8:56children at Starbucks. I mean, he might have been
- 8:59worried that that's what they were thinking, but it's just a
- 9:01weird thing to throw in on throw in there unless he was asked.
- 9:05But it's just as it's a quote. Just yeah, it's scary.
- 9:13Yeah, this is like, this is like the upscaling thing.
- 9:17Just don't do it. Just don't do it.
- 9:19Why are people? Doing this still a thing?
- 9:22I don't know. It was big in the 2000s.
- 9:25Yeah. Apparently.
- 9:27Although I have seen some YouTube videos like like place
- 9:30camera stuff where they're still catching people doing it and
- 9:34stuff. Yeah.
- 9:35Like just pretending to I'm just tying my shoe while I've got my
- 9:40camera out of. Yeah, I've learned this this
- 9:43week. OK, I'm not going to, I'm not
- 9:44going to say who this is just in case because I don't know if
- 9:48this is true, but there's a, there's AI watch people on
- 9:52YouTube. And I'm going to say one thing
- 9:56I'll say is that this is not somebody I've ever talked about
- 9:59before. So if I know that I've talked
- 10:01about travel Youtubers before and I may have named them, this
- 10:04is not anybody I ever have mentioned before because I was
- 10:07not aware of this person. There's somebody I came across
- 10:09on YouTube and I was like, oh, these videos are quite
- 10:11interesting. Looked up more of their stuff
- 10:15and then found there's a subreddit specifically about
- 10:20this person where they have seemingly discovered that this
- 10:25person is a somewhat infamous member of the pickup artist
- 10:30community. And.
- 10:33What they're doing is, and again, I don't know if this is
- 10:37true, but it really put me off, is yes, they're going around,
- 10:41they're making these videos, visiting, you know, all these
- 10:44kind of interesting parts of the world people don't normally go
- 10:46to and that kind of stuff. But also, apparently what they
- 10:49do is they'll never see any footage of them doing anything
- 10:52at night because what they do is they go to these places, they
- 10:55befriend the men and older women of the community and display
- 11:04their wealth and fame as Youtubers and then bang all the
- 11:09young women at night. And, and there's this whole
- 11:14thing about how like this is literally a thing that they've
- 11:17said that they figured out how to do when they went to
- 11:21Southeast Asia with their dad many, many years ago, where if
- 11:24they think you're a rich Westerner, you can just fuck all
- 11:26these women. And like, and I was, I was like,
- 11:30what the fuck? And they've made a YouTube
- 11:33career out of it as well. Like, and I, I mean, I mean, I
- 11:38think it's gross, but like certainly do that's, that's
- 11:43just, that's really creepy. So they like go around like
- 11:47filming stuff like befriending everyone, like we're nice guys,
- 11:51we're here flashing. And you'll see the of all that,
- 11:54of them befriending all these people and being really nice.
- 11:57And then what they do is they use that to, because then the,
- 12:01the, the scheme as outlined on these pickup items forums is
- 12:04that if you go befriend all the older men and women of the
- 12:08community, these are poor, impoverished communities.
- 12:13Word gets around and they go, girls, this could be it.
- 12:19You need to try and marry this man and then he just fucks them
- 12:22all. Fucks them all and leaves.
- 12:23Leaves, yeah. Leaves the next day.
- 12:26Like, yeah. Yeah, and again, it sounds
- 12:28ridiculous, but apparently this is a scheme that was outlined by
- 12:32a person who has been potentially identified as this,
- 12:37this, this guy. Guy.
- 12:39I said guy. I mean, it was fucking obvious
- 12:40it was a guy. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 12:42It's a guy that's going to be doing this.
- 12:44But I'm not going to say who because like I said, I don't
- 12:46know if this is true. I just saw this and I was like
- 12:49reading it and there's like a lot of stuff.
- 12:50And I was just like, Oh my God, like.
- 12:53That's really disgusting for sort of.
- 12:55It's just really creepy, like. Yeah.
- 12:59And because you would not know that at all, I think from the
- 13:03YouTube content, because I watched a bunch of it and I'm
- 13:05like, no, it just seems like no. But then when you know about
- 13:09that, you go, I mean, he is, he is talking to all the older
- 13:13people and he is displaying his Western wealth.
- 13:18Kind of thing like and he's only showing during the day.
- 13:21Yeah, like interesting. Well, I importantly, it's just
- 13:25sad, but I can't believe that. Well, it led me to the people,
- 13:29like, yeah, it's called sex tourism.
- 13:31A lot of people do it. Apparently.
- 13:32You go to poor countries and, you know.
- 13:36Oh yeah. It's sad.
- 13:40Yeah, it's, it's gross, but yeah, it's the world we live in.
- 13:48On my trip I didn't do that. Well, actually, this is an
- 13:53intervention. Dan is here and he's about to
- 13:54jump out and we're going to accuse you.
- 13:58No, no, no. And when we go to Vietnam, we
- 14:00will not be doing that right. No, we will not.
- 14:02Hopefully that's not what you thought we were going to be
- 14:04doing. No, I think we're going to be.
- 14:06I'm not interested drinking beer, riding scooters down the
- 14:10country. Yeah, I read this week that I
- 14:14actually have a question for you about that.
- 14:16This I read that I and you can't get a permit to drive in
- 14:25Vietnam. Is that true?
- 14:26How did you drive in Vietnam? Well, just.
- 14:28Hide. It didn't.
- 14:30No one stopped me. No one questioned me.
- 14:32No, they. Said you can do that, it's just
- 14:35that no one cares. But if you get in an accident or
- 14:38you get pulled over, you will have to pay the police money.
- 14:41You would need to bribe the police, yes.
- 14:44OK. That's what I heard.
- 14:46And I was like, I'm not sure Luke would have done that, but
- 14:49you did. All right, fine.
- 14:50Yeah, but no, I just hired and the place I hired through it was
- 14:54weed like I got, I think I was in Hui.
- 14:57They brought those scooter to my hotel, took my passport and I
- 15:02would have taken my luggage as well.
- 15:05And then I just drove down to. And you?
- 15:08Met and then just dropped the scooter off, got my passport
- 15:11back and that was it. But no, I've heard of a lot of
- 15:14people you have to give. Me a passport I don't think I
- 15:17want to do. That well, that's why.
- 15:19Well, that's why we're not going to hire, we're going to buy,
- 15:21right? Right, right.
- 15:24We'll buy the scooters, we'll buy the scooters up in Hanoi and
- 15:28then we'll sell them in Ho Chi Minh.
- 15:30Right, Right. Yeah, All right.
- 15:33Cool. Yeah, because I mean, they said
- 15:36also nobody over there's got licenses either.
- 15:38So no, I'm not, you know, you, you kind of just.
- 15:41No, basically, kids start driving when they're sort of
- 15:45like 12, essentially, yeah. And you'll see, you'll drive
- 15:50past and there'll be an entire family on a scooter, including
- 15:53their dog. Yeah, yeah.
- 15:55I also said that you, if you want to do that trip, the big
- 15:58trip, you really can't. You can't really do it on a.
- 16:02A scooter's not the best for it because there's a lot of
- 16:04potentially hills and stuff that you won't be able.
- 16:07To that actually, actually rode up over like the main hill.
- 16:11That's where I actually rid Rd. because that's the hill I really
- 16:15wanted to ride on. Like really good roads, really
- 16:17good scenery. Yeah, and it was fine.
- 16:20OK, all right. What?
- 16:23Like what power? Oh, it's like a 125.
- 16:27Like it was nothing like. There's I think what we're
- 16:29talking about, but a lot of people I think grabbed like
- 16:30little 50CC things. Oh yeah, no, that's no, you need
- 16:34a one Bread City and. Then go out into the Yeah, OK.
- 16:36Yeah, no, like the scooter I've got down that I own is like
- 16:40A250300. Yeah, right.
- 16:43OK. And but yeah, over there 125
- 16:45will get you around. Very cool.
- 16:49Yep. I'm excited.
- 16:51I'm excited to bang all the I mean, I mean, to see all that
- 16:53countryside. Show of your western wealth.
- 16:57Yeah, yeah, just the whole cut again, I don't make I'm not
- 17:02putting it that I think that's a gross way that that like saying
- 17:05that is yeah, I don't like that that's what they these people
- 17:09are talking about online. These pick up artisty people,
- 17:11right. I'm not saying I wouldn't even.
- 17:14Yeah. Is that really a pick up artist
- 17:16just to go hey I'm rich? Yeah, yeah.
- 17:21From what I gather the the goal is yes, it's pick up whatever
- 17:26gets the girls is. Oh.
- 17:28Because. That's all there is.
- 17:29Yeah, I don't see that as picking up.
- 17:30I see that as. Yeah, I don't know.
- 17:34I. Don't know, essentially paying
- 17:36for it, it's sort of, but they're not paying there.
- 17:39No, that's leading them on. They're just thinking letting.
- 17:41Them know that they could pay for it, but they're not going
- 17:43to. Yeah.
- 17:44Yes, and then they leave. Men are disgusting.
- 17:49Yes, yes. So yes, we will not be doing
- 17:56that. We might film some people in
- 17:58bathrooms, but only if they're transgender, not children.
- 18:02Come on, don't be gross. Oh, no children, just
- 18:05transgender. Just nothing for research.
- 18:08Yeah. Nothing weird, just you know.
- 18:11We don't need to talk to them or ask them the questions we're
- 18:14curious about. We'll just film it and hope that
- 18:18when the camera's on that it's easily treasured the person like
- 18:21because. Yeah.
- 18:22Oh, I'll know. I'll know.
- 18:23And then you will need to go through all the footage.
- 18:26Yeah, I'll zoom right in there and figure it out.
- 18:30So weird. Where was the camera?
- 18:35That's an important question too.
- 18:37Where was the camera? Yeah.
- 18:40It doesn't say you think. Up or below?
- 18:42That's is can you these questions I shouldn't ask, Can
- 18:48you mount a camera in a toilet? Like would that work?
- 18:53You mean in the toilet? Yeah.
- 18:55I mean, that's where you're going to get the best view if
- 18:57that's what you're interested in.
- 18:59I would assume there'd be, there's waterproof cameras and
- 19:01stuff out there, but they'd be visible, wouldn't it?
- 19:05Yeah, yeah. Because I guess I'm not a
- 19:08pervert, but if I just put a camera up somewhere would you
- 19:15wouldn't see much see anything? It's like a whole.
- 19:18I understand it's invasion of privacy and everything like
- 19:20that, but like under normal circumstances not a whole lot to
- 19:23see when someone goes to the bathroom.
- 19:26No, like it's not like very sexy or anything.
- 19:30No, no. And you're not.
- 19:31I mean, yeah, what are you going to, What are you going to say?
- 19:34I mean, you know, men often pee in public, in the public, but in
- 19:39the, you know, the urinal or whatever.
- 19:41I although here actually they are more private.
- 19:43People here are scared that you're going to look at their
- 19:45pee pee. Yeah, I remember we peed on the
- 19:48street many times. Yeah, we probably shouldn't have
- 19:52been that. Yeah.
- 19:55Yeah, I just. Think I just really had to go to
- 19:57the toilet. I'm not interested in children.
- 20:02What is it legal to pee in public here?
- 20:07I don't know. It almost certainly is, yeah.
- 20:10I've done it many times. Yeah, yes, we were drunk.
- 20:15Yes, clear about that. It's not something we do.
- 20:18Yeah, it wasn't. It wasn't for fun.
- 20:20It wasn't like I was doing it where people could see me.
- 20:24No, no, no. We were drunk.
- 20:28The hotel was a long way away and we didn't know where we
- 20:31were. Yeah, and we were.
- 20:32And we had to go to the bathroom.
- 20:33Yes, yeah, yes. So we found as suitable as a
- 20:38place as possible. Yes.
- 20:42We didn't. Film anybody.
- 20:43There didn't film anyone. There were no cameras,
- 20:46hopefully. And this is a long, long, long,
- 20:49long time ago. Yes, we're in our 20s.
- 20:53Correct, and we did not engage in any of what could be
- 20:56described as sex tourism. No.
- 20:59All right, what else we got here?
- 21:09Oh, have you seen the Bone Temple yet?
- 21:11No, I meant to go and see it, but then I started watching
- 21:13Stranger Things. OK.
- 21:15Yeah, when? I had heard it's really doing
- 21:18bad I've ever seen like most critical going.
- 21:21This is a great movie like. Yeah, I've heard like the
- 21:24reviews and everything are really good.
- 21:27Yeah, like, but I guess maybe people were put off by the other
- 21:32one, the last one. But maybe it's the fact that
- 21:34it's got the same sort of name. Yeah, maybe they think it's the
- 21:38same movie. Yeah, it could just be as silly
- 21:41as that. Could be, yeah, apparently it's
- 21:45doing really badly at the box office for some reason.
- 21:48And I think because the ending of the other one, it might have
- 21:51put people off. It was very strange it.
- 21:54Was it was super strange. Like, I mean, I'm going to watch
- 22:01the new one. Yeah, I'm hoping to get there
- 22:04this week. Maybe, you know, normal people
- 22:08were like, that was weird. No thanks.
- 22:11Come out. Maybe, but it's kind of great
- 22:14reviews from people who have actually seen it.
- 22:17Yes, that's why I'm so disappointing is because
- 22:20apparently it's very good. Yeah.
- 22:23But. Yeah, look, I will go and see it
- 22:26this week and I'll tell you if it's good or bad.
- 22:29I. Mean.
- 22:31I'm sure it is. I think it's good, like
- 22:35everything I've seen of it looks.
- 22:39But this might mean the the third one, yeah, could be in
- 22:43trouble. Now trouble is.
- 22:45A shame, unless it's already been filmed.
- 22:47I don't think so. I think they did these two.
- 22:50Back-to-back. Did they do all three of them?
- 23:00Yeah. It's it's making half as much
- 23:02money as last year's 128 years later.
- 23:06But also I don't think it may cost a lot to make.
- 23:11No, but. And that might be its savings
- 23:13Grace. OK, OK.
- 23:20Yeah. And somebody in the comments is
- 23:21saying I haven't seen, I don't watch ads over here, but someone
- 23:25said the marketing campaign in the US was, pun intended,
- 23:29boneheaded. Every commercial has just got
- 23:32some variation of quotes from the reviews that say wow, go see
- 23:36this movie you won't believe it. Bone Temple so good.
- 23:39Doesn't mention that it's 28 years later, doesn't mention
- 23:42anything. It's just saying go see the Bone
- 23:44temple. Like they're not.
- 23:47They're not linking it to the other one, which is weird.
- 23:54It's got Ray finds in it though. What's not to like?
- 23:57Yeah, that's, I don't know. Look, I'll let you know what I
- 24:01think of it next week. OK, please do.
- 24:06Please dear. She must got that guy in it
- 24:09again. The guy from what's that movie
- 24:14shit? The guy from Nosferatu.
- 24:19But no one is going to know what I mean by that.
- 24:21No. Aaron something, Aaron.
- 24:28Not Aaron Taylor Joy. That's Anya's.
- 24:32I just made-up Aaron Taylor Johnson.
- 24:40Aaron Taylor Johnson. He's in it.
- 24:42Oh, is he in it? I need to go see this quite soon
- 24:47because it's already getting down to like 1 screening a day.
- 24:51Wait, is he not in this? 28 years later?
- 25:00He's not in it that's we're talking about the dad.
- 25:06Yeah. Apparently he's not in this one.
- 25:10All right, well anyway, well, that sort of doesn't make sense
- 25:13because I think this is focusing on the kid because at the end,
- 25:15remember, he lays the. Kid whose daddy is OK.
- 25:20No, no, that's fine. Yeah, the last one.
- 25:22I mean, you have to be in the last one, right?
- 25:23Because he's literally supposed to be looking for the kid right
- 25:26now. That's why I'm just surprised.
- 25:27Oh, that We're not having any of that in this.
- 25:30Yeah, well, this is all about the Power Rangers.
- 25:33Yeah, that's fine. I know.
- 25:35Yeah, yeah, I get it. No, I'm actually going to have
- 25:37to see it this week because I think this might be the last
- 25:39week it's at the cinema seat because it's fucking hell.
- 25:42It's doing so badly. Like it on choose?
- 25:45Like there's two screenings on Sunday and Monday and then it's
- 25:49down to 1. So this might be the last week
- 25:51they have it. Oh, this person's in it.
- 25:57Yeah. OK.
- 25:58I might try and see it this week.
- 26:00I would like to support Danny Boyle.
- 26:03Yeah, especially because it's it is so good.
- 26:07It's. Wait.
- 26:09Deserves to get the third one made.
- 26:12Hang on a minute, something fishy about this casting cast
- 26:18list. I haven't spoiled something.
- 26:20Not going to say it just in case.
- 26:22That's weird. It's got to be.
- 26:26Starts with AC. Yeah, it starts with AC.
- 26:28It ends in an Ilian Murphy, but it's not.
- 26:31I think it's a cameo. No, I think it's just Google
- 26:35being stupid, which is something we'll get to in a minute.
- 26:38No, I did see he, I think he is in it, but just as a cameo type
- 26:43of not replaying his character that I just saw well.
- 26:50Yeah, because that would be ridiculous.
- 26:52Yes, Yes, I did. Was it?
- 26:57Yeah. You played like, I think you
- 26:59just had a camera. It was like a bike Courier or
- 27:01something. I don't think it's going to be a
- 27:05main character. How can you be?
- 27:07A bike Courier in that world. Maybe a flashback?
- 27:10I was. Going to say it after me.
- 27:14What was his job before 28 days? Dinner.
- 27:18Woke up in a hospital. Maybe he's a bike Courier.
- 27:20I think we knew that, yeah, maybe he was all right.
- 27:26So anyway, yeah, go see it. Go support it.
- 27:30Does not. I'll try to be doing this badly.
- 27:33Can I go see it this week? Maybe I maybe we'll see.
- 27:36Oh, budget 63 million and box office is 33 million at the
- 27:40moment, so yeah. It's not.
- 27:42That's really not good. Well, budget too, probably
- 27:45doesn't include marketing. So maybe double that, yeah, on
- 27:50average. Well, maybe don't double it from
- 27:53what I've been you just said about well they not.
- 27:55Really. You might have still spent the
- 27:56money on it. It just wasn't very good.
- 27:58Who knows? But I think usually the
- 28:00marketing budget is the same as the film budget.
- 28:03Yeah, again. It's like the marketing for
- 28:06Grand Theft Auto 5. That was huge.
- 28:10Yeah, sure. Which is, and I don't know.
- 28:12Oh, because I don't know why you'd need to advertise
- 28:14something. Like that, and I don't mean and
- 28:15I really don't think they need the they shouldn't have to do it
- 28:18for six, that's for sure. Yeah, I guess you don't want to
- 28:22risk it though. Like they make so much fucking
- 28:24money. But everyone just goes crazy
- 28:26just off a YouTube trailer. Yeah, I know.
- 28:29Yeah. Yeah.
- 28:30It's like the Marvel movies. Do they need to advertise those?
- 28:32I guess they do. Marvel.
- 28:34I think they do at the moment now.
- 28:38I don't know what's going on with this new one.
- 28:41I don't know. I just, it's so sad that they've
- 28:45just had to fucking back, backpedal, whatever the hell it
- 28:50is they're doing. I'm not.
- 28:52But this is going to be any good, you know?
- 28:54A Fantastic Four was good. Was it?
- 28:57I enjoyed it, but that's sort of weird, sort of set in a
- 29:02different universe type of thing.
- 29:05Yeah, well, that's how they're doing.
- 29:07Presumably that's how they're going to do the Doctor Doom
- 29:09thing. Yeah, maybe.
- 29:12We'll see. Yes.
- 29:16And then also with Captain America being back.
- 29:19Yep, Yep. Let's just bring back everyone
- 29:23we killed off and. I had a rant about, I think it
- 29:26was a probably almost certainly did on this show about how he
- 29:30literally came back and said he retired and for some reason this
- 29:34didn't click with me. But somebody did point out, yes,
- 29:40the Steve Rogers from that universe, that could be true,
- 29:44but a Steve Rogers from another universe might still be kept
- 29:48there. And I was like, oh, OK.
- 29:50Yeah, you're right. Yeah.
- 29:52Yeah. For some reason that didn't.
- 29:53And that's why it's going to get all very confusing with the
- 29:55multiverse and all this stuff. And yes, but that's what happens
- 30:00with the comics. It gets to a point where it's
- 30:02all too confusing and then they just blow it up and start again.
- 30:07Yeah, DC is worse at that from what I've seen.
- 30:10But yes, it gets messy because they, well, that's because as
- 30:16they are with with the movies they go, they get too overboard
- 30:21with like, no, no, you've got to watch all of them.
- 30:23You got to read all the comic books.
- 30:25You've got to read like, you can't just read Batman.
- 30:27You've got to read like Catwoman and you've got to read this and
- 30:29that and otherwise you won't. You'll be lost.
- 30:31And then now they're starting to deal with the movies.
- 30:33It's like, no, I shouldn't have to.
- 30:36Shouldn't have to. I should be able to just watch
- 30:37this movie and just understand it and not yeah, need to have
- 30:41watched 20 different things. How you?
- 30:42Keep getting yourself in this position where you have to reset
- 30:46the whole fucking comic series. Like the whole yeah.
- 30:49But I think that's always going to happen with the comics
- 30:51because they need to churn them out quickly.
- 30:54Well, the comics are different in that nobody's reading them
- 30:57now, so they have to do all these crazy stunts to get
- 31:00people. That's that.
- 31:02Literally every few years they reboot because people will not.
- 31:07If you go to buy comics and you go, oh, number 347, I'm not
- 31:10going to, yeah, I can't get into it now there's 347 comics I
- 31:14haven't read. So they reboot, it's number one
- 31:16and then. Everyone has #1 to start with.
- 31:19OK, sure. I'm in.
- 31:20Yeah, yeah. It's like, OK, that works I
- 31:27guess. Works.
- 31:31I don't know. Do comics make money?
- 31:35I don't know anymore. I think not.
- 31:38Not the way they used to. For sure.
- 31:41Like they can't. Because I know like a comic book
- 31:45store in Canberra, kids. Can't read anymore.
- 31:48I I go into a comic book store, I do get nervous when I go in.
- 31:55Always have been around comics. I don't know.
- 31:59I get nervous when I go to comic book stores, but I'm not
- 32:01interested in children. Your officer.
- 32:04No, it's, I don't know. I don't want to start something
- 32:07because I know I never go back and get the second one or the
- 32:09third one or anything. And so it's.
- 32:12Comics, not children. Yes, Yep.
- 32:15I, I pick up the second and third children.
- 32:17Yeah, of course. Yeah.
- 32:21Yeah, I know what you mean. I I've got on comixology which
- 32:26is now just. I think it just got rolled into
- 32:28Kindle now. OK.
- 32:31I've got comics on there because I do go through phases where I'm
- 32:34like, oh, because I used to read comics a lot when I was a kid.
- 32:37And I, you know, I go through phases now where I'm like, oh, I
- 32:39could read again. But like it's, it's a kind of a,
- 32:44you know, I'll go through a thing where I'll read a bunch of
- 32:46them for, you know, a couple of weeks and then I just forget
- 32:50that they exist basically. So.
- 32:56Yeah, I've only have like physical comics and I've always
- 32:59like brought one, brought maybe we've got the second one, and
- 33:02then by the time I go back to the third one, they're already
- 33:05sold out. I've got a bunch on those
- 33:07shelves, but yeah, I've done that before.
- 33:09Yeah. The best comic I have is the one
- 33:13signed by Stan Lee. I do have the Droid series.
- 33:20Oh yeah. Got that somewhere?
- 33:23Doctor Oyd's. Mess.
- 33:27Since the C3PO gets a job as a physician and he calls himself
- 33:31Doctor Oyds. Yep.
- 33:32Yep. He just wants to help people.
- 33:34He's not interested in children. Oh, he's not interested in
- 33:38children at all. No, he's not interested in
- 33:42girls. I can tell you that about 3PO.
- 33:44Oh, it's definitely not. They should have just seen in
- 33:49Star Wars where he gathers everybody together.
- 33:51He does. Have you gotten up to that
- 33:53video? No, I'm not up to that video.
- 33:55I'm just up to the bit where Robbins had to chat with him.
- 33:58Right, right. They're going, hey, I was like
- 34:02you and so I decided. So I think he's just now he's
- 34:07just got the power because I think he's just worked it out
- 34:09that. Yeah.
- 34:11Oh, they have the big showdown at the outside the gate when
- 34:14Vecna shows up. Yeah, yeah.
- 34:17Just I just finished that. Yeah, yeah.
- 34:19Yeah, yeah, yeah. The coming out thing, it was
- 34:24like funny in that I know people who are mad about it, like I
- 34:27it's fine. It's just like, it's very
- 34:29anachronistic in that like I can see people's point that I
- 34:34probably wouldn't have gone that well back in the 80s.
- 34:37Like, which I mean, obviously you don't need to show him, you
- 34:40know, like it's just, it's just very like odd like.
- 34:45Although. Like it's fine.
- 34:47Like it's nice, but then it is like.
- 34:49Closest friends and stuff and family.
- 34:53So that's a little bit different.
- 34:54Whereas if they had have gone like one person out of that
- 34:59circle, you probably would have had the you did say it in a safe
- 35:03space. Sure, sure.
- 35:04True. Yeah, I don't know.
- 35:06It's just, yeah, it, it was very like, OK, OK, we got it.
- 35:15Everybody knew. We all knew.
- 35:17We all knew, you know, everything's played to us.
- 35:21Everybody out here in the real world figured it out seasons
- 35:24ago. Maybe seasons ago.
- 35:27Yeah, Kathleen Kennedy we talked to last week about Kathleen
- 35:32Kennedy is gone from Lucasfilm. She's been saying some stuff on
- 35:37the way out the door and, oh, this week.
- 35:39Sort of like flipping some chairs and stuff out the way.
- 35:43Yeah, she's. Just being asked about a lot of
- 35:46stuff, which is fair because people have a lot of interest
- 35:48in, like Disney's not done much. Like with Star Wars, for
- 35:54example. The last couple of years have
- 35:55been quiet comparatively. Yeah, right.
- 35:57You know, they went a little. Over They went too hard, too
- 36:01fast and didn't realize what people wanted.
- 36:06Yeah. And so things have seemed seemed
- 36:08to have slowed down a bit. And now so she was asked about
- 36:12that a lot last week. And as we learned now Filoni's
- 36:14going to be in charge and it's just not going to be worth
- 36:17watching anything Star Wars ever again.
- 36:20And this week she's been asked about Indiana Jones and
- 36:25specifically Dial of Destiny didn't do that.
- 36:28Well, she's actually that's another thing too.
- 36:32She's saying here in this article that Harrison Ford was a
- 36:37behind a lot of the push for Dial of Destiny to happen
- 36:41because he didn't want to leave on.
- 36:44A sour note. Yeah, he didn't want to leave on
- 36:48Crystal Skull, which I feel like, I mean, maybe, yeah,
- 36:54Harrison Ford was the driving force behind the fifth film.
- 36:57But then the other week she also said that Rian Johnson got
- 37:01scared off and wouldn't do any more Star Wars movies, which is
- 37:06why there was no trilogy, right? She said.
- 37:09And then he came out and said that's not true.
- 37:12Yes, I happily would make them still.
- 37:15And it's it's like, who do you believe?
- 37:18So I don't know this, but the thing she's saying this week is
- 37:20that that Indiana Jones will never end.
- 37:27And like, currently, Stephen, Frank and I, Frank Darabond, I
- 37:36was like Frank, who just mentioned George Lucas, but
- 37:38we're all still here, Stephen and Frank and I and Harrison.
- 37:41Oh, and George, sorry, George is there.
- 37:44OK, it's on the next line. I'm getting old.
- 37:49So we get to say whether there's going to be any more or not.
- 37:53But these are timeless going to be.
- 37:57These will never be done. No, you can't at this point.
- 38:00No, Harrison, no, there's no way he could come back.
- 38:03He's done unless they do a full on just CGI.
- 38:06Make him young again. Yeah.
- 38:07Which was of mixed success. But I don't know if you've seen
- 38:11him in the Apple Show headspace. I think it is.
- 38:17Shrinking. Shrinking.
- 38:19Yeah, he's seen that. Seen it.
- 38:21I've not seen I've ever watched it, but I've seen.
- 38:24But yeah, like he is at an age where he cannot go back and do.
- 38:28He's an old man. He's an old man now, like he is.
- 38:32Yes, he will be geeky of the week at some point.
- 38:36Yes, like. He's the thing I see him the
- 38:39most now and I fucking love them.
- 38:40Are the Glenmorangie ads Harrison Ford just because it's
- 38:50like the fun side of him? Have you ever seen you've seen
- 38:54this? No.
- 38:55Oh, he's so he's the, I guess the the face of Glenmorangie
- 39:02Scotch now. OK, or?
- 39:04Whiskey and yeah, so I mean, look them up.
- 39:08The ads are great. It's like him, like they call
- 39:14him up like literally the ad, the first ad is like him sitting
- 39:17there drinking Scotch. And then they call him up and
- 39:19he's like not interested. And then they're like, you don't
- 39:21have to do anything. We'll pay a bunch of money.
- 39:23And he goes, I'll sit in the chair and I'll say the lines and
- 39:25they're like, sure. It's like.
- 39:28It's like they're really funny, but then yeah, like he's in the
- 39:32Highlands in a kilt and whatnot at some point.
- 39:35OK. But but yes, he's an old man who
- 39:38sits and drinks Glenmorengy now. Yes.
- 39:41Like yeah, he's never coming back for another one.
- 39:43And so if you're going to do it. Right.
- 39:46And let me know you're. Going to have to bring someone
- 39:49else in. Yeah, not Chris Pratt.
- 39:52No, I think that. That there was a small window
- 39:55there where you could have, they could have done that.
- 39:57But now everyone fucking hates Chris Pratt and I'm glad they
- 39:59didn't. Like there was a small window
- 40:01where you could have had Chris Pratt come in and play Han Solo
- 40:05and Indiana Jones. Yeah.
- 40:06And people would have been like, yeah.
- 40:08Yeah, but they missed that. But now, yeah.
- 40:13But then he went, he got, he ditched Anna Faris, got married
- 40:17to a Schwarzenegger and then became a homophobe.
- 40:20Or already was, but we didn't know.
- 40:22And then now he's like. He's probably going to run for
- 40:25government. Is he OK?
- 40:27I reckon he will. I reckon he's do a few more
- 40:31years to movies and then I think he will follow Schwarzenegger
- 40:34and go into politics. Yeah, right.
- 40:38Fair enough. Well, he's got, you know, it's
- 40:41his father-in-law. Now so exactly.
- 40:43Yeah, he's got a good mentor if you want.
- 40:45To do yeah. So I I'm predicting that now.
- 40:50Yeah, OK. In the next 10 years.
- 40:52So he'll not be in practice. We'll go into.
- 40:54Politics. All right, so who could be
- 40:56Indiana Jones? Apart from me, obviously.
- 41:00Oh, yes, Apart from us, yes. I I think they're gonna have to
- 41:05go. Someone unknown.
- 41:08Yeah. You couldn't go with big *.
- 41:11That's tough, though. You couldn't go a big star.
- 41:13It's going to be someone who's coming up in the ranks.
- 41:16Yeah, well, that's what they were worried about when Harrison
- 41:20Ford got cast. That's what George was worried
- 41:23about anyway, was that Harrison Ford had gotten famous from Star
- 41:27Wars. And he's like, no, no, no, I
- 41:28want to use Burt Reynolds. I would love to have seen Burt
- 41:35Reynolds play. I mean you can if you watch the
- 41:39the screen test he did with What's a Karen Allen?
- 41:43Yeah, but I don't know. I don't.
- 41:45I think things are different now.
- 41:48Yeah, yeah, I. Don't think there's any big
- 41:51stars that I could see playing in the end.
- 41:54Yeah, actually I've seen. So there's still people still
- 41:57speculating about who the fuck is going to be James Bond.
- 42:00So I've been seeing lots of stuff and all of the people that
- 42:03they're suggesting now I've never heard of.
- 42:07Yeah. And apparently these are like up
- 42:09and comers who are sort of like known.
- 42:12And I'm like, I don't know that. See, they should go with us and
- 42:15go with Rahul. Rahul would be the greatest
- 42:18James Bond now. He's charming, he's funny.
- 42:24Let him do it. Yeah, let him have a go.
- 42:28He's English. That would be yeah, he is.
- 42:31He is. Yeah.
- 42:35Thought I heard a noise, A child.
- 42:41Waking from their slumber. Yeah, no.
- 42:43Well, I already know she's upstairs at this point, so.
- 42:47She didn't bite him. What's that?
- 42:49She didn't bite him. She didn't bite him.
- 42:52No, the cat. She didn't bite the cat.
- 42:55Oh, I don't even know how to bite a cat.
- 43:00Like no one accused you of biting the cat, honey.
- 43:04But now we've got questions. Yeah, exactly.
- 43:07Like why is Bing C? Yeah, why is Bing C yelling?
- 43:10I didn't bite him, OK? I don't like children.
- 43:17Yeah, she has some funny shit. Yeah.
- 43:21So apparently she thinks it's going to be more Niana Jones.
- 43:23But that's. I mean, it's just tall.
- 43:25It's not anything. Yeah, I think it's one of those
- 43:28questions that she's gets asked and yeah, why not?
- 43:31Yeah, everyone's asking her about everything because she
- 43:34knows secrets and she's leaving, so they're like, maybe she'll
- 43:36tell us. Tell us, yeah, I am sort of
- 43:41happy she's gone, but I'm not happy with her replacement.
- 43:45No, me either. For the person who the only
- 43:49thing we've actually really liked since Disney took over, he
- 43:54goes, I didn't like that, so that doesn't get filled us with
- 43:57hope. Was that true?
- 43:59Did Filoni really say he didn't like and or?
- 44:08According to a new report it's dated?
- 44:13Oh, it's based on conjecture and a rumour dating back to 2022.
- 44:16There's no actual source. He's publicly praised Andor and
- 44:20Tony. The showrunner from Andor has
- 44:23praised Dave, so maybe that's not true.
- 44:26Maybe it's not true. Hopefully it's not true because
- 44:29that's what I want more of. Although I also want to see non
- 44:35western Star Wars. Yeah, I know you were mentioning
- 44:38this. I, I, I just think I don't know
- 44:41what it is, is something about the stuff that he's done.
- 44:44Like I liked The Mandalorian, but then like season 1 was
- 44:49mostly, I think Favreau and I thought it was good.
- 44:52And then season 2 was when I, my impression is that Filoni got
- 44:56more involved and that's when it started to get like, I don't
- 44:59like this as much. And then now it's full on like
- 45:01I'm just not really interested. The movie comes out in a couple
- 45:04of months. What's that?
- 45:07The movie comes out in May. That's that's.
- 45:11They'll get my money. No, they won't get my money.
- 45:14I'm not interested. Unless you, unless somebody,
- 45:17unless everybody goes. This is the best fucking Star
- 45:19Wars movie in the world. In which case I'll be compelled
- 45:21to watch it. I'll let you know.
- 45:24I'll go first week, I'll go day one, I'll see it and I have.
- 45:29I don't have high hopes for it at all.
- 45:32And you shouldn't. Like.
- 45:35The trailer looks no good to me. No.
- 45:41Amanda, Lorian and Grogu. It's also a horrible name.
- 45:45Stuck with getting rid of Grogu. That's the other thing that
- 45:47pissed me off too. Yeah, Grogu was cute and funny.
- 45:51But he didn't need to come back. It might have actually been nice
- 45:55to see. Chickened out.
- 45:57Grogu's story at Training to be a Jedi baby.
- 46:02Yeah. Not becoming Mandalorian.
- 46:05Don't just do a fake out. He's gone, and then surprise.
- 46:10Surprise he's back. That could have split it off and
- 46:12had different seasons, series and the Mandalorian could have
- 46:17been still doing bounty. Hunter, it could have been the
- 46:20Mandalorian. Yeah, it was about the
- 46:22Mandalorian. Yeah, I get it.
- 46:28It was very popular. It's hard to do.
- 46:29I do have a tattoo. Baby Yoda.
- 46:34Even. What's that?
- 46:35I have a tattoo of Baby Yoda. Grogu.
- 46:39Baby Yoda. You have a tattoo from before
- 46:42you knew that his name was Grogu, so therefore it's not
- 46:45Baby Yoda. Yeah.
- 46:47Yeah. I've got a tattoo of Baby Yoda
- 46:50eating the eggs. Got it.
- 46:52Yeah, Elyria's favorite blanket is a Yoda blanket, which she
- 46:57calls it Yoda blanket. It's technically Grogu, but
- 47:00whatever. Whatever.
- 47:02Looks like she. She's never seen Star Wars, but
- 47:04she knows who it is. Yeah, because.
- 47:07It was like my niece when she was growing up, she she knew the
- 47:10word Star Wars from from the style of it.
- 47:13Yeah. Like before she could read.
- 47:15She knew Star Wars because. Yeah, from the font.
- 47:19Yeah, and I used to fill her head with it.
- 47:25Tell her the stories of the wars, the.
- 47:27Clone Wars and I remember a story, there was a time when she
- 47:31was look, her parents were like, can we not watch Shrek?
- 47:35Can we watch something else, like watch a movie with people
- 47:39in it? She went, Yep.
- 47:40Star Wars, yes. That was that was used to be
- 47:48good. We don't have to do this.
- 47:51Another series, another trilogy that I like.
- 47:53I know not everybody likes all of them.
- 47:56I like the trilogy of Pirates of the Caribbean, the first 3.
- 48:02I like all of them. I think I've seen the first one.
- 48:05I don't think I've seen any of the others.
- 48:08Really. OK, I like all of them.
- 48:10I know the third one people don't like and it is certainly
- 48:12weaker, but I like them all. How many are there?
- 48:163. Only three?
- 48:18Yeah. They stopped at 3, did they?
- 48:22Yep. No, I think it's 5.
- 48:24How many? I do know that it sort of ends
- 48:27with him becoming. There are 5.
- 48:32In the third one doesn't like the other guy become the guy.
- 48:35He's on the boat and can only come to shore every year or
- 48:38something. Yes, will.
- 48:41Will why don't she just get on a boat and go and see me out in
- 48:44shore, out in the water? Well, I'm sure she will.
- 48:49Yeah, why she? Can't wait so often though.
- 48:51Something I can't No, no no, I can't remember but.
- 48:57But I don't know that from pop culture.
- 48:59I never actually saw it. Yeah, right.
- 49:02I'll have to watch him again. But the director go for Binsky,
- 49:07who also did the US remake of The Ring, which is in my opinion
- 49:11very good and I think it's better than the Japanese one.
- 49:14Controversial, but I quite. Well, I quite liked it.
- 49:17I like Gore Binsky. He has obviously given Pirates
- 49:21of the Caribbean done a lot of work with CGI, very CGI heavy
- 49:27series of films, particularly once Davy Jones gets involved.
- 49:31And he has been interviewed this week and he says, I think this
- 49:36is interesting whether or not it's true.
- 49:39He thinks there's a lot of people have commented, we've
- 49:43talked about how CGI in movies seems to be a bit shit now for
- 49:48some reason and no one's quite been able to figure out what the
- 49:51fuck is going on. He thinks it's because, and I
- 49:54didn't know this, there's been a big shift in the industry away
- 49:58from using Maya and other 3D modelling stuff that they used
- 50:02to use, which presumably he was familiar with, and they're doing
- 50:05it all in Unreal Engine now. Oh.
- 50:08OK, yeah, I'm playing that sort of strange because I've seen
- 50:12some stuff stuff on YouTube where they're doing it things in
- 50:18Unreal, which actually looks quite good.
- 50:22Yeah, well, he says, I mean, this is just his opinion, but I
- 50:25mean, he's a guy with a lot of visual effects experience.
- 50:29So he's it's not like not like this is coming out of nowhere.
- 50:33But he's saying is I think the simplest answer is you've seen
- 50:37Unreal Gaming engine into the visual effects language.
- 50:39So it used to be a divide with Unreal Engine being very good at
- 50:42video games, but then people started thinking maybe movies
- 50:45can also use Unreal for finished visual effects.
- 50:48So you have this sort of aesthetic entering the world of
- 50:50cinema, blah blah blah. I think it doesn't work from a
- 50:54strictly photoreal standpoint. That's his opinion.
- 50:58Any talks in here about how I think the Marvel movies used it
- 51:05a lot and it worked for their aesthetic, but now it's been
- 51:10like more broadly used and he thinks it doesn't work outside
- 51:15of that kind of context. Like, I don't know, he's saying,
- 51:19what does he say here? I don't think it takes light the
- 51:21same way. I don't think it fundamentally
- 51:23reacts to sub stuff scattering and how light hits skin and
- 51:25reflects in the same way, Yeah I don't know.
- 51:30For me, I just think they're they're sort of rushing it more
- 51:35and there's only so many studios that will groups that can do the
- 51:413D and they're sort of stretched thin.
- 51:43And I don't think you have the skills there anymore because
- 51:47they're relying on it too. Much maybe that's part of it
- 51:50too, right, because Unreal I think is more accessible and so
- 51:56maybe that's that is what it is. You've got less experienced
- 51:59people because you need more hands.
- 52:01And the other thing too is I think a lot of it for me when I
- 52:06see a movie, I've talked about this a lot before, is when more
- 52:11these days you see people doing stuff and you go that's you
- 52:13can't do that Like, and I don't know why they like, it's not
- 52:19that it's not just that it's CGI, it's just that it's not
- 52:21feasible like. Well, there's so much stuff that
- 52:24is CGI that doesn't need to be. It's just.
- 52:27Right, but like everything CGI, people are doing implausible
- 52:33things. There's like action is more
- 52:38haphazard and like they survive by luck and coincidence more
- 52:44than any kind of skill. Like what I always think of is
- 52:48The Hobbit where like you look at Lord of the Rings and it's
- 52:51got action sequences in it. And they didn't, they used CGI,
- 52:55but a lot of it was practical, like, you know, people jumping
- 52:57on horses and stuff like that. And the examples of where it is
- 53:00very fake and CGI always get laughed at.
- 53:03Like when Legolas climbs up the the Oliphant, right?
- 53:08People always make fun of that. But The Hobbit is full of all
- 53:11that kind of stuff. Like it's completely moved away.
- 53:13Like you've got the wind when smog is chasing the dwarves
- 53:16through through the mines and stuff.
- 53:19And they like fall and they just happen to land in a minecart
- 53:22because it comes back, it comes past at the right time.
- 53:25And then like, it's just like, and like when they're floating
- 53:29in the river, down the river and back, like it's just all very
- 53:31like, I don't know. It really doesn't work for me
- 53:35because it's just so fake and slapstick and but like lots of
- 53:40movies do that now. It's sort of, I don't know, it's
- 53:44lazy in a way. Yeah, I guess so.
- 53:49But it I'm sure it takes it's not even lazy.
- 53:52It takes a lot of effort to do it.
- 53:54I just. Think it's not saying I'm not
- 53:56saying it's not. Plausible.
- 53:58Yeah, that's what I'm saying. It's sort of most, most of maybe
- 54:01on the lazy writing side. Oh, and just relying.
- 54:04On the script to. CGI.
- 54:06The dragon chases the dwarves for 10 minutes, and then they're
- 54:09like, all right, yeah. And yeah, they're just relying
- 54:13on the CGI to cover up the fact that, yeah, we can't flesh this
- 54:17out for. And the thing that even with The
- 54:19Hobbit, like The Hobbit was how many?
- 54:22It was a trilogy, wasn't it? Yes.
- 54:25For the small, smallest book, they tried to stretch it out to
- 54:28a trillion. They took they took stuff from
- 54:30other books and they added extra stuff in like that.
- 54:33But yes, it didn't need to be. Yeah.
- 54:36And I think that was sort of the problem with that as well, is
- 54:39that they tried to stretch out the small book.
- 54:42The thing I'm describing is not the only issue with best movies,
- 54:45I'm just using as an example. Yeah, like what's something else
- 54:50I saw recently? Oh, I don't know, just, yeah,
- 54:54just I don't know the way they use it these days.
- 54:57It's like, I mean, example I always go back to is I look at
- 55:00Mad Max Fury Rd. as an example of like, that's what I want.
- 55:05It's and actually there are a couple of at least two I can
- 55:09think of instances in Mad Max Fury Rd. where I wish they
- 55:12didn't use CGI for things because it looks fake.
- 55:16They did rely a lot more on practical effects.
- 55:19That's what I'm saying. So like, and and you can, you
- 55:21can tell at least I, I can tell my brain seemingly knows.
- 55:24And because when I saw Furiosa, I talked about this.
- 55:26When I saw Furiosa, I was like, something about this is off.
- 55:30And then I looked it up and it's because, yeah, they convinced
- 55:33him. Like, apparently specifically,
- 55:36they convinced George Miller that it's OK to digitally alter
- 55:41the positions of the vehicles, this kind of stuff.
- 55:42And I was like, no, you're fucked up.
- 55:44I can tell. My brain knows, man.
- 55:47Like something about it. Yeah, there's too much of A
- 55:51reliance on it and it needs to stop.
- 55:54It's been to help, not be a I'm an old man.
- 55:58And I like stuff the way I like it, and that means just smash
- 56:01the cars into each other and I'll watch.
- 56:06But no, it's yeah, it's. I do think it's lazy.
- 56:11Yeah, actually a really good example of I when I watch an
- 56:16action movie and I get like that adrenaline rush kind of thing, I
- 56:19feel like it only happens when there's like less CGI.
- 56:23Yeah, maybe I'm just, maybe I'm just mistaken.
- 56:26And a recent example is I watched a much older Bond films
- 56:30at the end of Living Daylights. There's a bit where he he's in
- 56:35like a cargo plane and he's hanging out the back of the
- 56:37plane off this net full of like all the cartel drugs or whatever
- 56:41kind of stuff. He's literally and it's a person
- 56:44hanging out the back of a fucking plane fighting another
- 56:47guy on a thing because it didn't have CGI and they just had
- 56:50stuntmen and they filmed it and it and you go whoa, fuck, like.
- 56:54And to me, that which was made in the 80s is more exciting than
- 57:00a lot of. Is that sense of fear because
- 57:04it's it's real? I think my brain can tell the
- 57:08difference. Yeah.
- 57:10So yeah, but apparently it's because of Unreal Engine,
- 57:15according to Korvinsky. But I don't think that's true.
- 57:17I think it's just. No, I think the problem is the
- 57:21phrase will fix it in post. Yes.
- 57:27Yeah, have you seen? That what's this Gus, whatever
- 57:30his name is, the YouTube comedian he does it is you've
- 57:34got this sketch. It's like, I think it's called
- 57:36like every student film project and it's him there and he's
- 57:39like, all right, guys, thanks for coming down to my student
- 57:41project. I'll be the director.
- 57:45Never done this before. I will be saying the words.
- 57:47We'll fix that in post a lot. I don't know what that means.
- 57:51We'll, we'll fix that in post. Yeah, we're going to be here 12
- 57:55hours and then I have not arranged any catering and also
- 57:58that's, but that's fine because the homeowners also said we're
- 58:00not allowed to use the bathroom. That's very funny.
- 58:04I might need to go and look at that.
- 58:07It's funny and accurate. Yes, yeah, no, no, I do agree a
- 58:14lot of it, it's starting to look faker and I think it's just that
- 58:18they're rushing, they're spread out.
- 58:20So they you got new people in the industry using the easiest
- 58:23thing that's accessible, which is unreal so.
- 58:27But then also I'm I'm just an old man.
- 58:29Maybe kids don't care about this stuff like I do.
- 58:33I don't know. The Internet seems to pick it
- 58:35all apart, and we're not the Internet.
- 58:40That's we're on the Internet. We're on the Internet, but I
- 58:42don't think we are the Internet. Man, there was a time when I was
- 58:46probably the most on the Internet person I knew.
- 58:50And you know, well, you guys as well, obviously, but you know,
- 58:54like amongst my my school, I wouldn't go to your school, but
- 58:57at my school, I was probably the most on Internet person and I've
- 59:02people fucking eclipse me now. I'm sorry.
- 59:04I hate the Internet now. No, I despise it.
- 59:08Yeah, I haven't like even Instagram, I have not logged
- 59:11onto Instagram in months because.
- 59:15No one else is on there now. It's yeah, it's all just crap.
- 59:19I hate comment sections. Comment sections on anything
- 59:24just depressed me. Even like news.com, you read the
- 59:28comments and I go, I don't want to be here.
- 59:31It's because it's AI shit, a lot of it.
- 59:37It's AI shit and it's also people who I don't agree with
- 59:41who are very vocal. But the problem is you don't
- 59:46know if they're real. They could be AI pots designed
- 59:50to piss you off intentionally. So I think that's the thing now
- 59:54too. IAI needs to stop.
- 1:00:02Yeah, well, it's not going to. I know I do like AI, I do use it
- 1:00:07a lot, but I also think it needs to stop.
- 1:00:11Yeah. People don't know how to.
- 1:00:13People can't be trusted with AI yet.
- 1:00:18Yeah, yeah, it's I've noticed more lately because I do use it.
- 1:00:26I ask it stuff, Yeah. And the longer the conversation
- 1:00:29goes on, man, it gets weird. Yeah, like that.
- 1:00:32That's the thing. It's called a context poisoning
- 1:00:35where the longer you have a conversation with it, it gets
- 1:00:39hung up on something you said like days ago because you know,
- 1:00:44potentially that conversation when you talk to an AI, when
- 1:00:48you're having one of those chats, the way it works is it
- 1:00:50doesn't actually remember anything.
- 1:00:52It has to send with every request all the required
- 1:00:55information. So it sends the entire history
- 1:00:58plus any other history and blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, and then
- 1:01:01it figures it all out. And so if you've been having a
- 1:01:03conversation with it that's been over, like, months, it's having
- 1:01:07it all now. Yeah.
- 1:01:09And so it gets like, that's why it gets fucking weird.
- 1:01:12That's why you need to start new chats.
- 1:01:15Yeah, you literally have to, otherwise it will get weird.
- 1:01:19Yeah, I'm actually using a lot at work recently, and it's
- 1:01:23really useful to start something.
- 1:01:25Yeah. Not to finish anything.
- 1:01:28No, I trust it to finish nothing because I've seen it get to date
- 1:01:33wrong and then I've gone, you've got a date wrong.
- 1:01:36And it went, no, I didn't. Yeah, you did.
- 1:01:40And they went, Oh, OK. It can't do addition and
- 1:01:43subtraction, which is weird, right people?
- 1:01:45The other thing people require people rely on them for things
- 1:01:50that they really shouldn't. Because I think the problem is
- 1:01:52you think computers are very good at math, right?
- 1:01:57But but these things don't do it the way that you would expect
- 1:02:02all the time. Sometimes they will, sometimes
- 1:02:04they won't. Sometimes like, because the way
- 1:02:06it works is it just puts words together in a way that it thinks
- 1:02:09you want. So well, you've sometimes if you
- 1:02:13ask it to do like, you give it a bunch of numbers and you go,
- 1:02:15what's this? It'll just make it up, and if it
- 1:02:20sounds plausible, you could get yourself into some trouble
- 1:02:23there. Well, you've heard the stories
- 1:02:24of some lawyers getting disbarred because they basically
- 1:02:27put something into check UP and went, Yep, I'll submit that.
- 1:02:31And then they go, yeah, these cases you're referencing do not
- 1:02:37exist because check UPD was making you happy and went, yeah,
- 1:02:41I could. And if you ask you, you'll go,
- 1:02:43Oh yeah, that's right. I did make those up.
- 1:02:44Yeah, but like and do those things like like now they can
- 1:02:48Google information, right? But if you ask it, this is an
- 1:02:51example I had the other day, if you say what's the population of
- 1:02:55Belgium, right, it will sometimes just respond with a
- 1:03:02number which may or may not be correct.
- 1:03:04Sometimes it might say, I'll have to check and it will Google
- 1:03:07and it will say I'm checking Wikipedia and it will say I got
- 1:03:10this number from the Wikipedia article about Belgium.
- 1:03:15But still then you don't know it's true because sometimes it
- 1:03:19just gets a number from that article.
- 1:03:22Yeah. And it gives you that number and
- 1:03:23it's like, well. There's been time for it.
- 1:03:26Just even yesterday I was using it to do some documents.
- 1:03:30I asked, I asked the same question twice with like
- 1:03:33different data in there. Yeah.
- 1:03:35And the response it gave, it gave different like, yeah,
- 1:03:39different answers because it was different data, but how it was
- 1:03:43doing it was very different as well.
- 1:03:44Like instead of dot points, it was down numbers and things like
- 1:03:48that. Like it just changed the way it
- 1:03:50did it all for me, asking exactly the same question with
- 1:03:55similar data. It just decided to do it very
- 1:03:58differently for some reason. Yeah, because I've.
- 1:04:01Yeah, I think I mentioned I was working on a tool to like do
- 1:04:05like podcast transcription and stuff.
- 1:04:07And you have to tell it like to respond because I was trying to
- 1:04:11do it as a script to automate it, right?
- 1:04:12And so I want it to respond in like Jason format, which is a
- 1:04:16particular data format, so I can process it afterwards and do
- 1:04:19stuff with it. And then a lot of the time it
- 1:04:23just won't. And then so like the IT it's, I
- 1:04:26was like, this is fucking expensive because you have to do
- 1:04:2810 API requests. I mean it's not that expensive,
- 1:04:31but it like at scale it would be because you can't trust it's
- 1:04:35going to even respond no in the right format.
- 1:04:39Like no, it will just make up the format at once.
- 1:04:41At the time it just goes what? The fuck it feels like Yep.
- 1:04:45Anyway, yeah, the context for the the Belgium thing was that
- 1:04:50Apple is now going to use Gemini as the new Siri, so when you ask
- 1:04:57your phone a question, it will. Is it Gemini pixels?
- 1:05:02Very yes, Google thing. Google thing made a deal.
- 1:05:06It was going to be ChatGPT, but apparently either Apple or open
- 1:05:10AI doesn't want to do that anymore or both.
- 1:05:12And now it's going to be Gemini and.
- 1:05:15I did not think Google would make a deal or didn't think
- 1:05:18Apple would make a deal with Google like that They.
- 1:05:20Need the solution, man. They need the solution.
- 1:05:24But it's like going to be weird because the way like Siri's bad
- 1:05:28at the moment, right? But the way that most of these
- 1:05:30things work right now is if you Amazon, I think strangely has
- 1:05:36the best one of those. I'm not going to say it.
- 1:05:38Oh, Google's might be all right. I haven't used Google so much,
- 1:05:40but I've got one over there, so it's going to be listening.
- 1:05:42So I'm not going to say her name.
- 1:05:44But when you ask them a question, normally up until now,
- 1:05:47what happened was if you said what's the date, it would look
- 1:05:50it up, actually look it up, and you would get the correct answer
- 1:05:55If you asked it what the population of Belgium was, stuff
- 1:05:58like that. They have databases and it would
- 1:06:01look up the answer in the database, so it would have
- 1:06:03roughly the correct number, right?
- 1:06:04You ask it like, what was the score of the sporting game?
- 1:06:08And like the companies would make databases of this commonly
- 1:06:11asked information. And if people were asking a
- 1:06:12question a lot, either we'd either say I don't know, and
- 1:06:15then they could see all people want to know this.
- 1:06:17They add it to the database. So the the odds are better that
- 1:06:20you're going to get the correct answer.
- 1:06:22But now they're just throwing it into the fucking the the the
- 1:06:27agent, the chat agent, and then just whatever it fucking says is
- 1:06:31the answer. And it's like, come on, no,
- 1:06:35that's not a better solution than the actual correct answer
- 1:06:39that you have Now. We just especially.
- 1:06:42People it. Can't even tell you how many Rs
- 1:06:44are in the word strawberry like. And The thing is it.
- 1:06:48Gets it wrong. People are relying on it now.
- 1:06:51They're not taking it as a something to help them.
- 1:06:55They're relying on the answer. It's giving back and they're.
- 1:06:58Putting medical information in there and using it to get
- 1:07:02medical. Don't.
- 1:07:03You can't trust these fucking things.
- 1:07:05They make shit up. Like come on, they just want to
- 1:07:10make you happy. Yes.
- 1:07:13And if you ask it why, why did you lie, it'll say, oh, I just,
- 1:07:18you know, I thought you might like the answer.
- 1:07:22No, they just let the truth be brutal if you have to be.
- 1:07:26Has no concept of truth, Luke. That's the problem.
- 1:07:28People think these are like thinking things they're not.
- 1:07:32It's like a fucking random word generator.
- 1:07:34It puts words in the order that it thinks you want them in.
- 1:07:37And it's scary because already people get their news from like
- 1:07:41Facebook 1 liners and that's. We've got an article here.
- 1:07:44Isn't this next article? Google has come under fire.
- 1:07:48Particularly this. Isn't The Verge reporting this?
- 1:07:52They're saying Google repeatedly messes up, like frequently
- 1:07:58messes up their headlines. So when you see headlines on
- 1:08:02Google, Google News from the Verge in particular and and
- 1:08:08presumably all other news sites too, they've listed other
- 1:08:10examples too. It summarizes the article
- 1:08:14incorrectly and and it makes up a headline and it basically just
- 1:08:18says stuff that's not true and then you click through the
- 1:08:21article and that's not what the article says.
- 1:08:23That Yep. But, and the scary thing is a
- 1:08:26lot of people are only reading the headline and then they're
- 1:08:29going, oh, that's from The Verge, so must be reliable
- 1:08:33source. Yep.
- 1:08:35But it says yeah, Google's won't stop replacing our news
- 1:08:38headlines with terrible AI. Let's see, from PC Mag's story,
- 1:08:46I saw a headline saying that the drone ban was dropped.
- 1:08:48Is that true? No, it's not true.
- 1:08:51The the IT just summarized it incorrectly and it came up with
- 1:08:55a headline that was completely false.
- 1:09:02Why is it doing that when they've already would you just
- 1:09:08meant to be saying what this says like?
- 1:09:12Had reason. To replace it.
- 1:09:14The Apple intelligence one that they had to roll back and now
- 1:09:18they've switched to Gemini. But the the previous one, I
- 1:09:20think it used a chat chat. GBC said that the, what's his
- 1:09:29name, Luigi Mangiano, the guy that shot the healthcare
- 1:09:32president. It popped up an alert to people
- 1:09:36saying that he had died like, this is ages ago.
- 1:09:39And then Apple was like, oh, fuck, they have to roll back the
- 1:09:42whole feature because they were like, we can't be doing that.
- 1:09:45Like, yeah. They had a lot of problems with
- 1:09:49that one, didn't they? I.
- 1:09:51Think that's might be why they've switched to Gemini, but
- 1:09:54I don't. You can't control these things.
- 1:09:56That's the problem. You can just, oh, you have.
- 1:09:58You literally have to beg it. OK, please summarize this
- 1:10:02article and please don't lie. Please actually read it.
- 1:10:05Please summarize it correctly. Pretty pretty please.
- 1:10:07Like you literally have to ask it that.
- 1:10:09And then it goes, I'll see what I can do, and then it comes back
- 1:10:12with some horseshit. You're going to get what I give
- 1:10:15you. Yeah, it's quite funny.
- 1:10:20You know what you can get where I you know those words didn't
- 1:10:24come out right. You know what, Where you can get
- 1:10:27what? I'm going to give you the after.
- 1:10:31Party. Oh, the after party.
- 1:10:35Very good. What's the after party?
- 1:10:38That's the after party square. We're going to continue to talk
- 1:10:40for a little bit longer about other stuff this week.
- 1:10:44I will say we have no geeks in a week.
- 1:10:46No one died. No, neither.
- 1:10:48No one died or they didn't tell us.
- 1:10:50Anyway, he died. Yeah.
- 1:10:51And look, I can't promise I won't have any more old man
- 1:10:53rants, but I'll try not to go on about CGI or ChatGPT anymore.
- 1:10:59I. Promise I'm going to complain
- 1:11:01about something though so I'll have an old man rant.
- 1:11:04All right, yeah, all right. Well, we'll see the oh,
- 1:11:07patreon.com/multiple Nerdgasm if you want it.
- 1:11:09It's 5 bucks a month for the after party.
- 1:11:12You support the show and you get access to all the previous after
- 1:11:15parties as well. There's lots of them and.
- 1:11:18There's there's, yeah, well over like 100 or 200 now after
- 1:11:22parties. What are we?
- 1:11:24I'd say probably over 200. Yeah, there's a lot of stuff
- 1:11:28there that you'll get. There's a lot.
- 1:11:29Yeah, you should. Probably know that, should
- 1:11:32probably know that number, but. Let's ask ChatGPT.
- 1:11:37Let's ask ChatGPT. I got hand ChatGPT.
- 1:11:44Yeah, that's that. That doesn't know we'll end on.
- 1:11:46This many episodes of the multiple Nerd chasm after party
- 1:11:56are there you're. Going to be scared if it gives
- 1:12:00an answer. It's not easy to find an exact
- 1:12:05count because they're Patron exclusive bonus episodes rather
- 1:12:09than numbered main feed you see on Spotify Apple.
- 1:12:12But here's what we do know. There are dozens to potentially
- 1:12:16hundreds after 30 years. It's sort.
- 1:12:20Of very honest it doesn't know. It's sort of scary though, but
- 1:12:23it knows that it's behind a patron paywall though to begin
- 1:12:27with. Like that's yeah, still.
- 1:12:29There are Patreon posts titled Episode XXX After Party tied to
- 1:12:33main show numbers. For example episode 588 After
- 1:12:36Party from late 2024 and episode 634 After Party from early 2026.
- 1:12:40The naming indicates that an after party bonus exists for
- 1:12:42many of the numbered episodes, usually one per main show
- 1:12:45episode. Since they started doing them
- 1:12:47all right, So we don't know. We don't know.
- 1:12:49Listeners go to patreon.com/multiple Connotism.
- 1:12:52There are potentially, there are dozens to potentially hundreds
- 1:12:56of episodes of the After Party. I'm going to go.
- 1:12:59There's more than dozens. There are more than dozens.
- 1:13:03Yep, I'm going to say there are at least 100.
- 1:13:06Yes, I reckon we're probably over 200, honestly.
