- 0:00Speaker 1: Continuing our coverage here at Slana Accelerate of course. Joining
- 0:03Speaker 1: me now is Johann coming in from robin Hood.
- 0:05Speaker 2: How are you men? Good?
- 0:06Speaker 1: How are you nice to see you?
- 0:08Speaker 2: Yeah, good to see you.
- 0:08Speaker 1: Normally I'm watching you guys do your events and your
- 0:12Speaker 1: announcements and we kind of break them down in the studio,
- 0:16Speaker 1: but today we're going to get a chance to talk
- 0:18Speaker 1: a little bit more correctly with you. Let's get into
- 0:21Speaker 1: a little bit in terms of progress made on the
- 0:25Speaker 1: robin Hood chain going from test net to Maine Net.
- 0:27Speaker 1: Where are you guys right now?
- 0:29Speaker 3: Yeah, So we launched the test net back in February.
- 0:33Speaker 3: So far we've seen about one hundred million introlection being
- 0:36Speaker 3: sent on the test net, so a good activity at
- 0:40Speaker 3: this point. And we see a lot of developer be
- 0:41Speaker 3: being excited starting to use our stock token which is
- 0:45Speaker 3: called token nice stock offering to build new DEXes perpetuals offering.
- 0:50Speaker 3: We see some lending product being built as well. So okay,
- 0:53Speaker 3: we're very excited. Maine is soon and we think that
- 0:58Speaker 3: you know, it's really going to be not just the
- 1:00Speaker 3: launch of the chain, but also the launch of the
- 1:02Speaker 3: integration of the chain with all the robbin Hoot products.
- 1:05Speaker 1: All right, so coming soon sounds like. And you look
- 1:08Speaker 1: at that in terms of the advantages that this really
- 1:11Speaker 1: brings to Robinhood as a platform. What do you think
- 1:15Speaker 1: is the main core element that you think will really
- 1:19Speaker 1: kind of achieve a market presence here in terms of
- 1:22Speaker 1: moving on to a Robinhood chain right now?
- 1:24Speaker 3: Yeah, for us, we see it as a way to
- 1:26Speaker 3: expand internationally a lot faster. When we launch a stock
- 1:30Speaker 3: tooken last year and Europe right the entire infrastructure was
- 1:33Speaker 3: built on crypto rails and so instead of having to
- 1:36Speaker 3: go country by country connecting to brokerage accounts manually for
- 1:41Speaker 3: thirty country in the EU, we were able to do
- 1:43Speaker 3: it at once. And we think we can do the
- 1:46Speaker 3: same thing but at the entire global stage using tokenized assets,
- 1:51Speaker 3: and not just for US stocks n ETF, but we
- 1:54Speaker 3: think we can connect to more exchanges from the London, Frankfurt,
- 1:57Speaker 3: Singapore more, but also privatelyquld real estate of small things.
- 2:03Speaker 3: The concept of sechnized assets works for basically any type of.
- 2:06Speaker 2: Festa, not just the Dora that we know we stable.
- 2:09Speaker 3: Coin, but any type of fesset and so we think
- 2:13Speaker 3: that in countries where accessibility to banks and to bordcarage
- 2:17Speaker 3: is pretty difficult.
- 2:18Speaker 2: As long as you have.
- 2:19Speaker 3: A phone and an Internet connection, you should be able
- 2:21Speaker 3: to connect and actually stop building your wealth and your
- 2:25Speaker 3: management portfolio.
- 2:27Speaker 1: This is going to I think it's going to open
- 2:28Speaker 1: up a lot of opportunities, you know, with what you
- 2:30Speaker 1: guys are doing in terms of really innovation around some
- 2:33Speaker 1: of the products and services for finance. But one of
- 2:36Speaker 1: the things that I think a lot of our viewers
- 2:38Speaker 1: are dealing with is security. The issue is of course
- 2:42Speaker 1: recently with the help now within the DeFi that has
- 2:45Speaker 1: maybe made a lot of investors a little bit more
- 2:48Speaker 1: gun shy looking at centralized exchanges as an option.
- 2:51Speaker 2: Here.
- 2:51Speaker 1: What are you guys doing in terms of infrastructure security
- 2:56Speaker 1: for Robinhood and how are you advancing that?
- 2:58Speaker 3: Yeah, so far as you know, lot of time we
- 3:01Speaker 3: try to make sure that anything that we build with
- 3:05Speaker 3: safety first in mind. You know, the concept of launching
- 3:09Speaker 3: a product to twenty seven million customers at once is
- 3:12Speaker 3: very darning, and so any type of new product that
- 3:16Speaker 3: we build goes through multiple round of security reviews.
- 3:19Speaker 2: We do audit and.
- 3:21Speaker 3: Penetration testing, right team testing as well, and the goal
- 3:25Speaker 3: is ready to make sure that we're ready for prime time.
- 3:27Speaker 3: And that's why sometimes if you go on Robinhood, we
- 3:30Speaker 3: don't have the feature as fast as some of our competitors,
- 3:34Speaker 3: usually for two reasons. One we try to make it
- 3:36Speaker 3: more adapted to the customer, but also we want to
- 3:40Speaker 3: make sure that security easier. And I think that's sometimes
- 3:44Speaker 3: one of the default of our industry or the crypto industry,
- 3:46Speaker 3: that they are trying to move fast. They are trying
- 3:48Speaker 3: to launch products very quickly and then they fix the
- 3:52Speaker 3: problem later. And so in the case of what we've
- 3:55Speaker 3: seen in the past couple of months, issue is like
- 3:57Speaker 3: it's a lot of money loss and so you're losing
- 3:58Speaker 3: a lot of credibility, a lot of customer are getting hurt,
- 4:02Speaker 3: and so, you know, I think it's it's important for
- 4:05Speaker 3: all the actor in the industry to start thinking a
- 4:07Speaker 3: bit more about how do we are think about security
- 4:11Speaker 3: first before launching any product. And you know, with the
- 4:15Speaker 3: advance of AI, with all the new tools that are
- 4:17Speaker 3: being developed by some of the companies, we should be
- 4:20Speaker 3: able to actually do a lot more at the launch,
- 4:23Speaker 3: before the launch to verify that there is no bug
- 4:26Speaker 3: in the code or in the smart contract we should
- 4:29Speaker 3: we should be able to verify using proof that you know,
- 4:33Speaker 3: nothing is bugged. So you know, that's a lot of
- 4:36Speaker 3: time being spent on that. The second thing that we're
- 4:39Speaker 3: looking at a lot is the quantum arrival at some point.
- 4:42Speaker 3: You know, we think that it's going to be a
- 4:44Speaker 3: lot sooner than what we've been discussing in the past
- 4:47Speaker 3: few years. There was the research from Google saying that
- 4:50Speaker 3: it's coming even sooner than everyone was expecting. And so
- 4:53Speaker 3: I think for us, it's very important to make sure
- 4:55Speaker 3: that our custody for our customer.
- 4:57Speaker 2: Assets is safe.
- 4:59Speaker 3: But also we to understand like the implication of what
- 5:01Speaker 3: will happen to all the chains that are out there
- 5:04Speaker 3: with different consensus mechanism, different algorithm, and how we are
- 5:09Speaker 3: making them quantum safe basically.
- 5:11Speaker 1: So you feel that Robin hood is in a position
- 5:15Speaker 1: right now, what would you be doing that would really
- 5:18Speaker 1: start to lean into quantum resistance right now? As a
- 5:21Speaker 1: centralized exchange, Well.
- 5:22Speaker 2: We're looking for custody.
- 5:24Speaker 3: For example, we want to make sure that you know,
- 5:27Speaker 3: no one could find the private key of one off
- 5:30Speaker 3: a wallet using quantum technology.
- 5:33Speaker 2: So right there is a lot of people working on it.
- 5:36Speaker 3: It's not just robin Hood, but I think you know,
- 5:39Speaker 3: for us, it's definitely top of mind.
- 5:41Speaker 2: In this word.
- 5:41Speaker 1: Okay, let's go on to stable coins, because this has
- 5:44Speaker 1: been top of mind for everybody for the last almost
- 5:47Speaker 1: a year, ever since the Bank started pushing back on
- 5:49Speaker 1: stable coin yields. Now we have clarity language coming through
- 5:53Speaker 1: getting ready to go to the market phase here in
- 5:55Speaker 1: the Senate, it looks as though there may be some
- 5:58Speaker 1: opportunity when here for yields still to be acquired via activity.
- 6:04Speaker 1: What do you guys see for the future of stable
- 6:08Speaker 1: coins being held on robin Hood right now? I know
- 6:10Speaker 1: you pay on US dollars in terms of yields, but
- 6:13Speaker 1: anything planned for stable coins in the.
- 6:15Speaker 2: Future, yeah, that's something that we want to do.
- 6:18Speaker 3: You know, we've been very vocal about this Boasvlad and
- 6:21Speaker 3: myself on Twitter, We've been trying to explain that we
- 6:24Speaker 3: think right now we are putting a customer holding stable
- 6:27Speaker 3: cooin at disadvantage because to your point, they can sell
- 6:30Speaker 3: the stable coin, get cash, get the entire interest on it.
- 6:34Speaker 3: But if a customer is a bit savy and they
- 6:35Speaker 3: want to be able to transfer their stable very quickly
- 6:39Speaker 3: and they want to just keep it on the platform currently,
- 6:41Speaker 3: they lose some money by not getting the names, so
- 6:44Speaker 3: we think it's important to fix it. It sounds like
- 6:47Speaker 3: with the latest draft there should be ways for us
- 6:50Speaker 3: to be able to pass it. We also heard this
- 6:53Speaker 3: morning that the banks are still posing it, so I
- 6:56Speaker 3: think there will be a bit more of a debate,
- 6:59Speaker 3: but I think it's really important for us to get
- 7:00Speaker 3: the Clarity Bill to pass. We still have a very
- 7:04Speaker 3: fragmented situation in the US where you have different rules,
- 7:08Speaker 3: different license based on the states, and right now it's
- 7:11Speaker 3: the customer that is suffering. So for example, Robin Hood,
- 7:14Speaker 3: if you're a customer of forty six states, you can
- 7:18Speaker 3: stake your assets.
- 7:19Speaker 2: On the platform.
- 7:20Speaker 3: If you're a customer of Full Stage, you cannot, and
- 7:22Speaker 3: we get a lot of frustration from our customers. So
- 7:25Speaker 3: I think it's important for us to have one framework
- 7:27Speaker 3: that we can use and build around the EU. As
- 7:31Speaker 3: it with MECA, I think it's time for for the
- 7:33Speaker 3: US to have it as well.
- 7:35Speaker 2: Well.
- 7:35Speaker 1: MICA has put it in play much faster than the
- 7:38Speaker 1: United States here in terms of infrastructure, especially from a
- 7:42Speaker 1: standpoint of getting institutional and also banking life. So we're
- 7:46Speaker 1: in that play right now. Hopefully with clarity coming for you.
- 7:51Speaker 1: Look at taxes, self custody. We are seeing a transition
- 7:56Speaker 1: now Johann of what has been the crypto ogs and
- 8:00Speaker 1: then a whole new crop of new investors coming in
- 8:03Speaker 1: who maybe haven't even experienced self custody yet. What are
- 8:06Speaker 1: you guys doing in reference how the advantage for Robinhood,
- 8:11Speaker 1: especially around self custody and taxes play into the whole
- 8:15Speaker 1: ecosystem for you guys.
- 8:16Speaker 3: Yeah, so on the taxis side for us from the beginning,
- 8:20Speaker 3: we offer the ten ninety nine for free.
- 8:23Speaker 2: To our customers.
- 8:24Speaker 3: So if you're training crypto on the platform, at the
- 8:28Speaker 3: end of the of the year, we'll be able to
- 8:31Speaker 3: issue the ten ninety nine that you can use to
- 8:32Speaker 3: file your taxes. We also have a tool that if
- 8:35Speaker 3: you're transferring assets in you can put the cost spaces
- 8:38Speaker 3: of the asset that you transferred in.
- 8:39Speaker 2: So you can inserted in exactly.
- 8:41Speaker 3: So we've been making sure that it's not guarded by
- 8:44Speaker 3: any subscription or any fee. We think it's one of
- 8:47Speaker 3: the core elements that if you're an investor.
- 8:50Speaker 1: You're saying, I don't need robin Hood.
- 8:51Speaker 2: Gold to do you don't need robbin a gold to
- 8:53Speaker 2: get the time. That's great, Yeah, and.
- 8:55Speaker 3: I think it's important because if you're a first time investor,
- 8:57Speaker 3: which we have a lot of customer on our platform
- 9:00Speaker 3: coming for the first time to buy bitcoin, Yeah, we
- 9:02Speaker 3: don't want to beg them page just to get access
- 9:04Speaker 3: to the tax filing.
- 9:05Speaker 2: So that's one thing.
- 9:07Speaker 3: And then on the self costody side, we build our
- 9:09Speaker 3: own self costidy wallet.
- 9:10Speaker 2: It's called robbing and Wallet.
- 9:12Speaker 3: You can transfer most of our assets on the platform
- 9:16Speaker 3: on that wallet and self custody access defy web three,
- 9:21Speaker 3: all this kind of things.
- 9:22Speaker 1: How integrated is the Robinhood wallet now to the actual
- 9:25Speaker 1: exchange account.
- 9:27Speaker 3: You can easily transfer between the two. I wouldn't say
- 9:30Speaker 3: it's integrated, but it's a few taps to actually transfer
- 9:33Speaker 3: your money from let's say your robbing it account to
- 9:36Speaker 3: your robbing and wallet.
- 9:37Speaker 2: So easy enough. Yeah, it's girt about assets.
- 9:40Speaker 3: We have like fifteen basic assets like layer ones and
- 9:44Speaker 3: then you know every year.
- 9:45Speaker 1: L two basically real supporting any plan to increase the
- 9:48Speaker 1: number of assets on the platform. Right especially on crypto.
- 9:51Speaker 2: We've been increasing a lot, to be honest.
- 9:53Speaker 3: So if you think about robbing where it was like
- 9:55Speaker 3: a year ago, we probably almost triple the number of
- 9:59Speaker 3: assets been able to trade on spots, and for us,
- 10:03Speaker 3: it's a lot of you know, understanding the demand for
- 10:06Speaker 3: more customer but also making sure that there's enough equity
- 10:08Speaker 3: so that we can offer the best price. So we've
- 10:11Speaker 3: been increasing the amount of as sets quite quite a bit,
- 10:14Speaker 3: and right now the main request we are getting is
- 10:17Speaker 3: more how do we get more advanced future for example,
- 10:22Speaker 3: so different type of autotypes or being able to trade
- 10:26Speaker 3: from the charts like this kind of.
- 10:28Speaker 1: Right right, Well, I mean obviously you guys have launched
- 10:31Speaker 1: prediction markets, You've got that moving now we're starting to
- 10:34Speaker 1: see alternative assets rolling out much like what xtocks has
- 10:38Speaker 1: done in the past. How big a market do you
- 10:41Speaker 1: think that is in the future, both thus whether you
- 10:43Speaker 1: look at purps and what's happening with something like a
- 10:46Speaker 1: prediction market.
- 10:47Speaker 3: Yeah, prediction market is one of the fastest growing business
- 10:50Speaker 3: at Probabinolds, so it's definitely something where we see a
- 10:52Speaker 3: lot of demand. It's a new way to invest for
- 10:56Speaker 3: a lot of customers. You can hedge differently your portfolio
- 11:00Speaker 3: and then on perps. It's something that we have in
- 11:02Speaker 3: the EU right now. So we have about twelve different
- 11:04Speaker 3: contracts with ten x leverage in the EU and it's
- 11:07Speaker 3: been one of our top feature in the market.
- 11:11Speaker 2: I think a lot of customer likes the ability to
- 11:13Speaker 2: short they like the ability to.
- 11:15Speaker 3: Get margin obviously cross margin between their assets. And we've
- 11:19Speaker 3: also spent a lot of time building a very good
- 11:21Speaker 3: UX and UI where you can set a take profit
- 11:25Speaker 3: or start plus when you place an order, and I
- 11:27Speaker 3: think that's a very big differentiator compared to some of
- 11:30Speaker 3: the other platform where everything has to be manual. And really,
- 11:36Speaker 3: you know, we see customer like loving this product. I
- 11:38Speaker 3: think it's less complicated than options. For example, you don't
- 11:41Speaker 3: have to roll out your contracts every time they expire,
- 11:44Speaker 3: you don't have to deal with expression data at all.
- 11:47Speaker 3: You get the margin rate that you want at the
- 11:50Speaker 3: moment that you want. So I think so far we've
- 11:52Speaker 3: seen a lot of phusiasm for it, and so I
- 11:54Speaker 3: think it's time to bring it into the US. Let's
- 11:56Speaker 3: do it so, you know, I know, the chairman of
- 12:00Speaker 3: the Safety Sea mentioned that it's one of the top priorities,
- 12:03Speaker 3: so we're very excited about that.
- 12:05Speaker 1: Yeah, it's good to see the new products coming out.
- 12:07Speaker 1: I think this is a staple now where we're seeing
- 12:10Speaker 1: a lot of centralized exchanges really advanced forward. What about lending?
- 12:14Speaker 2: Any plans for that?
- 12:16Speaker 3: Lending is definitely something that where we're looking like an
- 12:20Speaker 3: any future. I think, you know, for us, the main
- 12:23Speaker 3: point is, like we're saying earlier, like when is it
- 12:25Speaker 3: ready for prime time? When are we feeling good about
- 12:28Speaker 3: the security? And it also like, you know, is it
- 12:31Speaker 3: something that our customer are asking for once?
- 12:33Speaker 2: Yeah, for sure.
- 12:34Speaker 1: Last question on clarity, A lot of things happening right now.
- 12:38Speaker 1: Speed to market is coming most likely once this markup
- 12:43Speaker 1: comes through. I know the banks just this morning we're
- 12:45Speaker 1: kind of pushing back again. Tom Tillis is talking about
- 12:48Speaker 1: pushing back on that if this goes through, let's just
- 12:51Speaker 1: pursue the idea that this makes it through to the Senate,
- 12:55Speaker 1: it gets through House puts their stamp of approval on this,
- 12:59Speaker 1: we get it through to President Trump's desk, and we
- 13:03Speaker 1: have clarity. What kind of impact would that have on
- 13:05Speaker 1: Robin Hood?
- 13:07Speaker 3: I think, you know, like I was saying earlier, it
- 13:09Speaker 3: will simplify a lot how we build products because we
- 13:12Speaker 3: will have one way to think about the rules instead
- 13:15Speaker 3: of looking at every single state. I also think for
- 13:18Speaker 3: the institution. It's going to be a big unlock. You know,
- 13:20Speaker 3: a lot of institutions want to get into crypto. They
- 13:23Speaker 3: want to invest or use stable or use assets, but
- 13:27Speaker 3: they are worried about how it's going to be defined
- 13:30Speaker 3: on their like different rules. So I think you will
- 13:34Speaker 3: see also be in flux aflow from from the institution.
- 13:37Speaker 1: All right, Johan, thanks for coming in today.
- 13:39Speaker 2: We piates for having me.
