  This weekend I was at the Boston Warcraft 30th Anniversary event,

  which was really, really wonderful, and it made me think

  about how lucky we are as World of Warcraft players that we get

  so many opportunities to be around other World of Warcraft

  players. We have things like LFG,
• 1:43
  BlizzCon now, these 30th anniversary events, and it's
• 1:46
  always such a wonderful and beautiful and exciting time
• 1:50
  because you're just surrounded by people who love the same
• 1:53
  thing that you love and just want to be there and tell their
• 1:56
  stories and get excited and talk about the thing they love.

  So I wanted to see if I could bring a little bit of that
• 2:02
  energy and excitement into the podcast.

  So while we were there waiting for two hours outside because we
• 2:08
  heard a rumor that they oversold the event and not everyone was
• 2:11
  getting in, I went up and down and I asked people what their
• 2:15
  first memory of Warcraft or the World of Warcraft was.

  This was the most fun I had during the event.
• 2:22
  It was an incredible party, but getting that time to talk and
• 2:25
  chat with just strangers who loved this game like I did was
• 2:29
  so fun. And people had these hilarious
• 2:32
  and beautiful and exciting stories and I'm so excited to
• 2:35
  share them with you all. So without further ado, let's

  get into it. I am Jet JETTE.

  One of my earliest memories of World of Warcraft is actually
• 2:45
  not actually playing the game, but being told about the game
• 2:48
  from profit. And that same night, he was
• 2:52
  really excited to show me what the World of Warcraft is all
• 2:55
  about because I had heard of it before, but I never really had
• 2:59
  any experience with it. So he stared his screen for me
• 3:04
  and he's like, all right, here I am on Moon Guard.
• 3:07
  And so this is the RP server. And, you know, this is what they
• 3:12
  do on the RP server. And, you know, they go to
• 3:17
  Goldshire. And he showed me there was a
• 3:20
  party in there. And I was like, wow, this is a
• 3:22
  really cool party. So my name is Prophet.
• 3:24
  I'm the CEO and owner of Valor Gaming, Warcraft in general.

  I started playing Warcraft 3 because all my uncles had
• 3:30
  computers and that's all that they played.
• 3:32
  And so when they upgraded their computer, they gave me their
• 3:35
  like Windows XP or whatever it was.

  I played so much Warcraft 3:00 every single side quest, like
• 3:42
  every single side mission, like everything.
• 3:44
  That would probably be my earliest memory.

  Hi, my name's bitters. I started playing like back in

  vanilla. I I think probably my earliest

  remember make memory was being at like a card gaming shop for

  like magically gathering and they had like a land area and a

  whole bunch of people were it's all like gathered around and

  like they were like, oh, this new game just came out and like

  some of my friends started playing and I was like, what is
• 4:14
  this? And I see like it's like orange

  big city and all these spikes and stuff.

  And later on come to see that it's Orgrimmar and go in and I

  they got me to start playing. And that's just, yeah, just been
• 4:27
  playing since then. Name is Amrath.

  My first memory is loading into vanilla back like the first two
• 4:35
  months after I came out. I was really young and making a
• 4:38
  night off warrior and just walking around and inevitably
• 4:41
  getting assassinated by a horde rogue.

  Let's go Jason. So I grew up in a very like game
• 4:47
  focused household. My dad had like an old Windows
• 4:51
  95. He had Warcraft 2 installed on
• 4:53
  it. And so that was one of the
• 4:54
  earliest games that I ever played.

  But once I started like realizing what games were, we
• 4:58
  pick up Warcraft three that I played for years and years and
• 5:01
  years. And then one day we were out.

  I was out with my mother shopping for a Father's Day gift
• 5:05
  in like 2008 and we saw World of Warcraft down there.

  I remember very much my mother was like, do you think he'll
• 5:11
  like it? And now, you know, all these
• 5:15
  years later, my parents still play over the winter as like a
• 5:18
  way to like, you know, be inside, play cheap.
• 5:20
  My sister plays every now and then and so do I.
• 5:23
  So like the whole family got into it very early on.
• 5:27
  So yeah, I've it's my whole life really.

  Like truly and honestly, like I've known Warcraft my entire
• 5:31
  life. Aloysius a Grove layer.

  The end of Burning Crusade is when I started.

  I got my first piece of raid gear and that was it 2008.

  I run as Jasmine. I currently play to Warlock.

  Oh gosh, levelling is a mage. It was.

  I'm a Wrath baby. So back then of course I started

  with a mage, which back then, you know, you hit something and
• 5:52
  then you sit and eat and drink for 5 minutes and then, you

  know, Mike gets play again. But yeah, that's my earliest

  memory. But I loved it.

  Nemo or Nemo Damus depending on what server you find me on.

  I am from WTF Nation Radio, which is part of U.S.

  Army WTF Moments, all active duty veterans.

  My earliest memory of World of Warcraft.

  I've played Warcraft like many people, but when I was deployed

  to Iraq in 2004, I carried the original box of World of

  Warcraft in my pouch. No way to play the game, nothing

  like that. But every night or every few
• 6:25
  nights, I would read the player's guide and it would say

  all these things that I was really looking forward to

  experiencing when I got back home.

  Yeah. And in the back I remember it
• 6:35
  said legendary heroes coming soon and all I could think was
• 6:39
  they're going to let us be demon hunters like Illidan.

  So I played at Night Elf. Rogue was my first character I
• 6:45
  made when I got back home and I've been playing ever since.

  It's Alexia. When I was first starting out in
• 6:50
  vanilla, the first time a mage made a portal I tried to jump
• 6:54
  through it instead of clicking. Hi I'm Alexis, gamertag is blue

  lava. I played with my mom.

  I was like 5 or 6 years old and she would like put me on her lap
• 7:05
  with her laptop and I would just be playing my little gnome
• 7:08
  rogue. And then I was probably like 8
• 7:10
  or 9 when I finally got my own computer.

  I was like this old school like desktop computer.

  I got it in the living room like nothing crazy.

  And I just made my gnome and that's where the name Blue Lava

  came in. I was a death knight.

  Now I'm a Demon Hunter. Man, I've been playing forever.

  spider. And I remember getting the

  brushwood blade and it's like the very first green weapon I

  think you can get as a night elf.

  And I just remember walking out of shadow Glen with a green

  sword and a white shield thinking this is it.

  This is how I take over the world.

  So I first started playing. My name is Al Qaedas from shadow

  remains. What was or the ring?

  And my friend was a warlock and my other friend was a mage and I

  got confused of how portals and summons worked so I kept telling

  my friend to send me a portal and I did not understand that he
• 10:40
  couldn't send me a portal to take me to the city.

  And I'm like but you're a mage this is how it's supposed to
• 10:45
  work. If anybody played classic and

  benediction I was Sabata the protection warrior.

  So my very first memory, I created a Night Elf rogue who

  was my original main and I played for days and days and
• 10:58
  days and I ended up I was in Searing Gorge.

  I was doing the quest to try to get like the the Lookout
• 11:06
  Spyglass and the entire time I played up to that level, which
• 11:09
  was like level 40, I didn't know what a combo point was.

  And so I actually thought it was just the enemy charging up an
• 11:16
  attack and I had to beat them before it got to five.
• 11:19
  And I would just mash buttons until eventually it, you know, I
• 11:21
  killed the thing and I couldn't understand why it was capping at
• 11:24
  5 and never doing anything. But that's the thing I think of
• 11:26
  the most when I think back to like the original wack fiend
• 11:30
  using World of Warcraft to convince my mom to upgrade from
• 11:33
  dial up Internet. It was Alyssa.

  I go buy grumpy pants battle tag.

  I first started playing Wow in 2020, right around COVID.
• 11:40
  I'd actually just gotten laid off.

  I was not in a great space mentally.

  I couldn't get a job because nowhere was hiring.

  So my wonderful boyfriend actually pretty much picked a

  computer out of the trash for me, improved it, put a gaming

  card in it, and just set me up and went here.

  Try this game, I think you'll like it.

  I'm Tyler, I play on Nordresil. My battle tag is just tomato

  And yeah, I've been playing since I was about 7 years old,

  something like that. I literally just told this guy

  my first introduction to the game was my brother was playing

  and he was grinding mobs in Duskwood and he sat me down at

  the computer because he had to go to the bathroom and he used

  button whenever the bar fills and that's all I did for like 5

  minutes and then I was like this is the most amazing thing I've

  ever experienced in my life. I'm Billy and I play Warlock.

  I was a shadow lands noob, so I remember doing Castle Naughty

  for the first time and going to Huntsman Alabour and people

  telling me, hey, get in the little traps, there's a haste

  buff there, but there's no haste buff.

  leveling to about maybe 5 or 6 and then my aunt deleting the

  character after I would leave the family gathering.

  And then I would have to remake my night off druid at every

  family gathering and do the same quests over and over again.

  I probably did that about a dozen times.
