- 0:01Speaker 1: Jeff Langwald is our Broncos insider Altitude Sports Radio ninety
- 0:05Speaker 1: two five Pro Football the Insider.
- 0:07Speaker 2: I've covered the league a little while.
- 0:09Speaker 1: Chef Legwald, He's the balloon popper.
- 0:12Speaker 3: He doesn't blow it up.
- 0:13Speaker 2: Brought to you by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers
- 0:16Speaker 2: IBBW Local sixty eight.
- 0:18Speaker 1: Start with the jomp and with the career.
- 0:20Speaker 4: It's Leggy on Altitude Sports Radio five. Yeah, Jeff, brought
- 0:39Speaker 4: to you by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers IBW
- 0:42Speaker 4: Local sixty eight. Start with a job and with a career.
- 0:45Speaker 4: Seeing the news Jeff that Bryce Shawn will start instead
- 0:48Speaker 4: of Andy Dalton, How, if anything, does that change the
- 0:53Speaker 4: uh the focus for the Broncos this week?
- 0:56Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm not sure it changes, you know, what the
- 0:59Speaker 2: hell they would sort of attack one of the league's
- 1:01Speaker 2: worst offenses. But I think it does give them, you know,
- 1:05Speaker 2: at least the indication of who to look at as
- 1:08Speaker 2: they prepare here, so you know, just on the specific
- 1:12Speaker 2: things each guy does better or worse, but uh yeah,
- 1:17Speaker 2: that their offense as a whole there is is either
- 1:21Speaker 2: last or near last in every statistical category right now,
- 1:25Speaker 2: no matter who's the quarterback.
- 1:27Speaker 1: Jeff We've been having a pretty hearty conversation about whether
- 1:31Speaker 1: the Broncos should be buyers at the trade deadline, and
- 1:34Speaker 1: I guess I'm just curious your thoughts. Do you think
- 1:37Speaker 1: this team's in a position where it makes sense to
- 1:40Speaker 1: make a mid season addition? And I'll give you a
- 1:43Speaker 1: specific example that we were talking about afterwards, But I'm
- 1:46Speaker 1: just curious your thoughts there.
- 1:48Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, I you know it, certainly, you know,
- 1:51Speaker 2: fans would want them to be, you know, out there
- 1:54Speaker 2: looking that you know, they they have almost one hundred
- 1:58Speaker 2: million dollars of cats they can't use right now because
- 2:01Speaker 2: of dead money or guys on injured reserve, and they
- 2:05Speaker 2: only have about five million in cap space, and they've
- 2:11Speaker 2: already redone all of the contracts they can do to
- 2:16Speaker 2: make cap space big enough to add a player, you know, already,
- 2:23Speaker 2: like they added three years three voidable years to Courtland
- 2:28Speaker 2: Sutton's contract, a player they didn't even want to give
- 2:32Speaker 2: a raise to so they could sign pets or canned. Now,
- 2:37Speaker 2: you know, at this point in the year, you could
- 2:38Speaker 2: add a guy because his salary is pro rated and
- 2:41Speaker 2: essentially say we're turning all of this salary into bonus
- 2:48Speaker 2: and give them the cash and take the cap figure down,
- 2:50Speaker 2: but you'd have to add some voidable years and all
- 2:54Speaker 2: of those things things they've already done, probably too much
- 2:58Speaker 2: for teams that are really concerned about a soundar cap
- 3:01Speaker 2: problem down the road, you know already. So yes, they
- 3:06Speaker 2: can do it, but it would be a heavy lift,
- 3:09Speaker 2: and and they're already creating a lot of trouble for
- 3:12Speaker 2: later that they would only be adding to. So you know,
- 3:17Speaker 2: are they good? Are you really good enough right now
- 3:19Speaker 2: to like sort of make that move, you know, I
- 3:22Speaker 2: know that's a tough call to me.
- 3:23Speaker 4: All right?
- 3:23Speaker 1: What about what about selling? And the one positional group
- 3:28Speaker 1: we were talking about was actually edge rushers, not because
- 3:31Speaker 1: you don't like him, You love all of them. But
- 3:34Speaker 1: do you think that the Broncos can realistically hold on
- 3:37Speaker 1: to all four of these guys because they all kind
- 3:39Speaker 1: of come up for contracts around similar times.
- 3:43Speaker 2: Right, I mean, that's that's also a reason you would
- 3:45Speaker 2: sort of, you know, look around and see what you
- 3:48Speaker 2: could get. I think I think they really like how
- 3:52Speaker 2: it's coming coming together right now. You know, they they
- 3:56Speaker 2: are creating, uh, you know, one of the best pass
- 4:01Speaker 2: rushers in the league without sort of the dominant, you know,
- 4:05Speaker 2: marquee edge rushers, So I think they like the group
- 4:09Speaker 2: as is. I think it would take a pretty good offer. Uh,
- 4:12Speaker 2: it would surprise me if before the deadline gets here
- 4:15Speaker 2: that somebody doesn't at least tap the microphone about one
- 4:20Speaker 2: of their quarterbacks to just given the state of affairs
- 4:24Speaker 2: around the league right now, including.
- 4:26Speaker 3: The team on your schedule this year maybe in Cleveland,
- 4:31Speaker 3: how's Boonicks done? What have you seen progression wise and
- 4:35Speaker 3: what are some of the true numbers that maybe we
- 4:38Speaker 3: haven't paid close enough attention to to show that there's
- 4:41Speaker 3: probably a lot of improvements to happen.
- 4:45Speaker 2: Well, Scotty, I think that he's got this weird combination.
- 4:49Speaker 2: I'm not sure I've seen it as drastic as this.
- 4:53Speaker 2: You know, for a long time, he's in the top
- 4:58Speaker 2: eight in attempts PAS attempts. I think he's tied for
- 5:01Speaker 2: eighth right now. So he's busy. I mean, he's one
- 5:03Speaker 2: of the busiest quarterbacks in the league. And he's also
- 5:08Speaker 2: one of the worst in the league in completion percentage
- 5:12Speaker 2: and yards per completion. So throwing a lot. They're asking
- 5:18Speaker 2: him to throw a lot, and he's not completing a
- 5:21Speaker 2: lot of the shortest passes, so it is really it's
- 5:27Speaker 2: a weird combination, and they seem bound in determined to
- 5:31Speaker 2: keep him busy no matter what the numbers tell them.
- 5:36Speaker 2: I thought in New Orleans it was I thought they
- 5:40Speaker 2: had to be different because Sean Payton probably felt like
- 5:44Speaker 2: there were so many people on the Saint staff that
- 5:47Speaker 2: knew his offense that to me, they actually played the
- 5:52Speaker 2: way they should more often. But he will not commit
- 5:55Speaker 2: to that beyond you know, its opponent driven. But to me,
- 6:00Speaker 2: they used more play action than any game they've they've
- 6:04Speaker 2: had since Week one, and they used him on called
- 6:09Speaker 2: runs and he was far more comfortable in those kinds
- 6:14Speaker 2: of situations. I think he had a you know, I
- 6:19Speaker 2: think he had over half his sixty percent of his
- 6:22Speaker 2: passing yards out of pet play action. So but I
- 6:26Speaker 2: asked him, you know, Sean Payton about play action Monday,
- 6:29Speaker 2: and he he shoved it aside as if it's you know,
- 6:32Speaker 2: a non existent stat So, uh, I think that's the
- 6:37Speaker 2: way they should play. Whether they will do that or
- 6:39Speaker 2: not remains to be seen.
- 6:41Speaker 4: Okay, what's your prediction for most cliche answer? To make
- 6:46Speaker 4: it seem like the Panthers are any good at anything today.
- 6:50Speaker 4: What do you think you're gonna hear?
- 6:52Speaker 2: You know, you know the phrase you have to look
- 6:55Speaker 2: at the film will be shut in some fashions, we
- 7:00Speaker 2: don't go by numbers. We don't go by then, and
- 7:02Speaker 2: you got to look at the film.
- 7:04Speaker 4: Okay, so we're going to we'll look for that. Well,
- 7:06Speaker 4: listen for we got to look at the film. If
- 7:08Speaker 4: you guys only looked at the film, if we looked
- 7:10Speaker 4: at the film, Okay, don't look at the numbers, look
- 7:12Speaker 4: at the film.
- 7:13Speaker 2: Get your seat or they get paid to. There'll be all.
- 7:18Speaker 4: Right, Jeff will enjoy it today. It's you know, on paper.
- 7:22Speaker 4: Games aren't played on paper, Jeff. We all know that
- 7:24Speaker 4: they're not played on paper.
- 7:27Speaker 2: Yeah, Mac, you know you've been on this, you know
- 7:29Speaker 2: we've all been around here a while. That this is
- 7:31Speaker 2: one of those games where I've seen over the years
- 7:35Speaker 2: where if they don't score early, the home crop gets
- 7:37Speaker 2: really mad. Yeah, and that that to me, I have
- 7:42Speaker 2: seen that cause a little trouble over the years, that
- 7:45Speaker 2: like if they don't score the first two drive.
- 7:47Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, yeah, you're right, you got a lot.
- 7:49Speaker 2: Of peeve to people like raining down on the home team.
- 7:52Speaker 4: Hey, if this is if This is like ten and three,
- 7:55Speaker 4: ten to three Broncos at halftime. It is going to
- 7:57Speaker 4: be seventy thousand booze as they walk off the fields,
- 8:01Speaker 4: even if they're.
- 8:01Speaker 2: Leading enough to pick up your raw, fewery and buncore.
- 8:07Speaker 4: All right, Jeff, we'll talk to you next week. Thanks Jeff,
