- 0:00SPEAKER_01: It's foggy.
- 0:01SPEAKER_00: It is very foggy.
- 0:02SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 0:02SPEAKER_00: Be careful this morning.
- 0:05SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 0:05SPEAKER_00: We got kids who are getting on the bus, walking to school.
- 0:09SPEAKER_01: Deer that are darting across the road, just like, oh, we own this house, not you.
- 0:14SPEAKER_00: For the past two days, I've been walking up this.
- 0:17SPEAKER_00: It's a little bit more of a secluded road in Corning.
- 0:21SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 0:21SPEAKER_00: And these little deer are just blip, blip, blip, blip, blip.
- 0:25SPEAKER_00: Oh, happy as can be.
- 0:26SPEAKER_00: So cute.
- 0:27SPEAKER_01: Until they run in front of your car.
- 0:29SPEAKER_00: Right?
- 0:29SPEAKER_00: It's just me and them just hanging out those little cute white-tailed butts.
- 0:33SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 0:33SPEAKER_00: And I love it.
- 0:35SPEAKER_01: No, that's I mean, talk about being one with nature.
- 0:37SPEAKER_01: Also, when one's in your uh front grill grate, that's one with nature, too.
- 0:41SPEAKER_00: I haven't hit a deer since my first year here.
- 0:43SPEAKER_01: Oh, bite your tongue.
- 0:45SPEAKER_00: I know, I know, I know.
- 0:46SPEAKER_00: And this, do I still have the deer whistles on this car?
- 0:50SPEAKER_00: I don't know if I do or something.
- 0:51SPEAKER_00: I don't know if those ever work or not.
- 0:53SPEAKER_00: I swear by them.
- 0:54SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 0:54SPEAKER_00: But I don't know because I haven't hit a deer in 20 years.
- 0:57SPEAKER_01: It's where the deer whistles going.
- 0:59SPEAKER_01: All right.
- 1:00SPEAKER_01: Look at you, baby.
- 1:01SPEAKER_01: Oh dear.
- 1:02SPEAKER_00: That's what I was doing at their cute little white butts yesterday.
- 1:04SPEAKER_01: That's what I do on the way to work.
- 1:06SPEAKER_01: I just get up.
- 1:06SPEAKER_01: Today I took Coleman.
- 1:07SPEAKER_01: I took the hill over.
- 1:08SPEAKER_01: Uh-huh.
- 1:08SPEAKER_01: So I just put the window down.
- 1:10SPEAKER_01: I would look like dumb and dumber with my head out the window.
- 1:12SPEAKER_01: I'm like, you know.
- 1:15SPEAKER_00: You're the perfect person to take to any sports event.
- 1:18SPEAKER_01: I can whistle at a drop of a dime.
- 1:20SPEAKER_00: Yes, I love when people do that.
- 1:22SPEAKER_00: It gets me so riled up.
- 1:23SPEAKER_00: And that's the way to start a wave, too.
- 1:25SPEAKER_00: It's like you whistle it, all right, let's go.
- 1:28SPEAKER_00: And then you start because you can't help but look at you.
- 1:30SPEAKER_00: So if you whistle, then you get up and start the wave.
- 1:33SPEAKER_00: Scott starts the wave.
- 1:34SPEAKER_00: There you go.
- 1:34SPEAKER_01: I'm the wave starter.
- 1:35SPEAKER_00: I've never started the wave.
- 1:36SPEAKER_01: Oh, I've been known for making waves over the years.
- 1:39SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but have you ever started a wave at the end?
- 1:40SPEAKER_01: I don't know that I started a wave.
- 1:42SPEAKER_01: I've definitely been in a wave.
- 1:43SPEAKER_00: Oh my God, yes.
- 1:44SPEAKER_00: I love being in the wave.
- 1:45SPEAKER_00: And then you you were waving, you know, like at a a sports thing, not a hello.
- 1:50SPEAKER_00: And you're you're part of the wave.
- 1:52SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's a hell of a greeting at an event.
- 1:54SPEAKER_00: Ah, and it's like three times around, and okay.
- 1:59SPEAKER_00: Sit out we're good here.
- 2:01SPEAKER_00: Sit out.
- 2:01SPEAKER_00: And then there's the three people that keep it up.
- 2:03SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 2:04SPEAKER_01: It's not restarting.
- 2:06SPEAKER_00: Right, exactly.
- 2:07SPEAKER_01: We've done it once.
- 2:08SPEAKER_00: We're not rewinding.
- 2:09SPEAKER_00: Keep going.
- 2:10SPEAKER_00: Oh my gosh.
- 2:11SPEAKER_00: Um, so speaking of 20 years ago, had a great conversation on the phone with last with somebody last night from 20 years ago.
- 2:18SPEAKER_00: Get out.
- 2:19SPEAKER_00: I talked to Chef William last night.
- 2:21SPEAKER_01: Oh my gosh, what is he doing?
- 2:23SPEAKER_00: Uh uh well, a lot.
- 2:25SPEAKER_01: But there that he is a guy that's always into something.
- 2:29SPEAKER_00: I know it.
- 2:29SPEAKER_00: So if you guys have not been with us for 20 years, let me just give you a little background.
- 2:34SPEAKER_00: So Chef William was at my interview, and he was with Scott prior to me as a friend.
- 2:41SPEAKER_01: And he was here prior to me.
- 2:43SPEAKER_00: Oh, I didn't know that.
- 2:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 2:44SPEAKER_00: Oh, so he was a friend of the show.
- 2:46SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 2:46SPEAKER_00: And I I'm guessing that he would cook with you before I came.
- 2:50SPEAKER_01: Yeah, he somehow the way the story went is the host previous to me, can't remember his name.
- 2:56SPEAKER_01: Uh, and uh uh anyway, no, no, wanted a steak or something like that.
- 3:01SPEAKER_01: Jay.
- 3:02SPEAKER_00: Okay, he wanted a steak, okay.
- 3:04SPEAKER_01: And then it ended up happening that he came in.
- 3:06SPEAKER_01: Well, then he just sort of kept coming around and cooking different things.
- 3:10SPEAKER_01: And and we did a lot of crazy things with him.
- 3:12SPEAKER_01: We did one of my biggest memories.
- 3:13SPEAKER_01: I have two huge memories with Chef William.
- 3:16SPEAKER_01: One was we cooked a turkey on a manhole uh here for one of our old redneck the uh Thanksgiving fiestas.
- 3:23SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 3:24SPEAKER_01: It was this weird mix of like, we need a Mexican word, but at the same time, we need redneck and we need Thanksgiving.
- 3:29SPEAKER_01: So he literally found a way to cook a turkey.
- 3:32SPEAKER_01: Now, trust me, the manhole was completely covered with like two or tons of layers of foil.
- 3:38SPEAKER_01: Delicious turkey.
- 3:39SPEAKER_01: Uh I bet.
- 3:40SPEAKER_01: And uh so he did that.
- 3:41SPEAKER_01: He you know what he used?
- 3:42SPEAKER_01: What are those really hard candies?
- 3:44SPEAKER_01: Uh they're smarties.
- 3:45SPEAKER_01: Nope.
- 3:45SPEAKER_01: They're the squarish ones.
- 3:47SPEAKER_01: Jolly ranchers.
- 3:48SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 3:48SPEAKER_01: He used Jolly Ranchers all around the turkey to create a glaze.
- 3:52SPEAKER_01: Oh my god.
- 3:52SPEAKER_01: Oh, don't knock it till you try it.
- 3:54SPEAKER_01: I mean, it was unreal.
- 3:55SPEAKER_01: I'll never forget.
- 3:56SPEAKER_01: And then one other time, uh, and this was uh so you know how we have the vintage races at the end of uh at the end of the season, you know, big celebration with WGI and all that.
- 4:06SPEAKER_00: We just had it.
- 4:07SPEAKER_01: Well, they used to set up, and I haven't been up there in a long time, but they used to set up like all these vendors and stuff down in Watkins.
- 4:14SPEAKER_01: Still do food and all that.
- 4:16SPEAKER_01: Chef William was making a buffalo treat, beef on whack, or I think you could get chicken if you didn't want beef.
- 4:22SPEAKER_01: Somebody didn't show up that was supposed to work with him.
- 4:25SPEAKER_01: I ended up cooking with him all night.
- 4:27SPEAKER_01: We were literally doing that.
- 4:29SPEAKER_01: Those are two very big memories.
- 4:31SPEAKER_01: And then he was, of course, around for all sorts of stuff.
- 4:33SPEAKER_00: And that was before me.
- 4:35SPEAKER_01: What brought you guys to talk?
- 4:37SPEAKER_00: Well, I don't I don't I don't want to say too much about this because I don't want it to be confusing.
- 4:41SPEAKER_00: But we're having this listener appreciation party coming up.
- 4:44SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 4:45SPEAKER_00: And I called first I called his wife because I love Chef William, but I've always been closer to his wife because after Chef William was at my interview, then I ended up living with him and his family.
- 4:57SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 4:57SPEAKER_00: I stayed with him for a couple weeks until uh at the beginning of me moving here, I had a roommate and she was also coming from Cleveland.
- 5:04SPEAKER_00: She was working for Cargill Salt, and Chef William let me stay with him until she got here and we could get into our apartment.
- 5:12SPEAKER_00: And then after she left, she just didn't stay here.
- 5:16SPEAKER_00: And that's that's fine.
- 5:17SPEAKER_00: Then he said, Come and live with us again.
- 5:20SPEAKER_00: So I lived with him twice and ended up becoming really close with his wife.
- 5:23SPEAKER_00: So anyway, called his wife and said, I'm calling because I would like to invite you guys in for the listener appreciation party.
- 5:31SPEAKER_00: Oh wow.
- 5:31SPEAKER_00: And I want to make sure that we get like travel arrangements ready.
- 5:34SPEAKER_00: Like, I want you guys to stay with me.
- 5:36SPEAKER_00: What do you think?
- 5:36SPEAKER_00: I want to see what your schedule's like.
- 5:38SPEAKER_00: So that was the original call was me inviting them in preview October 17th.
- 5:43SPEAKER_00: Yeah for this party.
- 5:46SPEAKER_00: And she her answer was awesome.
- 5:49SPEAKER_00: Oh she said, we have to.
- 5:51SPEAKER_01: There's that's awesome.
- 5:53SPEAKER_00: First of all, I cannot believe that 20 years has passed.
- 5:55SPEAKER_00: And secondly, oh my god, this is something that I we wouldn't miss for the world.
- 6:00SPEAKER_01: I just remembered a third thing with Chef William.
- 6:02SPEAKER_01: When we used to host the cardboard boat regatta years ago, somehow that event we got kicked out of, but whatever.
- 6:09SPEAKER_00: I the well, I don't know if kicked out of.
- 6:13SPEAKER_01: All right.
- 6:14SPEAKER_00: Never got asked to come back.
- 6:16SPEAKER_01: Yeah, all right, that's a more pleasant way to do it.
- 6:18SPEAKER_01: But by God, did we have fun?
- 6:19SPEAKER_01: We did it for years.
- 6:20SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah.
- 6:21SPEAKER_01: And uh uh he used to bring his house, it was right across the street from Captain Bill's.
- 6:26SPEAKER_01: Literally right across the street.
- 6:28SPEAKER_01: That's where I lived twice.
- 6:29SPEAKER_01: He used to bring snacks down because we'd be there all day doing this, you know, this broadcast because that regatta takes all day.
- 6:37SPEAKER_00: That and that was my Hazlitt's white stag era.
- 6:40SPEAKER_00: He would always bring me a good white stag.
- 6:43SPEAKER_00: I loved, loved this wine.
- 6:44SPEAKER_01: Maybe that's why we get kicked out because we were eating snacks and drinking wine 20 years ago doing it.
- 6:50SPEAKER_00: Whatever.
- 6:51SPEAKER_01: Who isn't for that event?
- 6:52SPEAKER_00: And you know, as far as that goes, more details to come.
- 6:56SPEAKER_00: But he even has he had a conflicting thing, and he said, I'm gonna try to work this out where I can pre-record my conflicting event.
- 7:05SPEAKER_00: Yes, and then because he's a chef, you know, he's like a TV chef, if you will.
- 7:09SPEAKER_00: And so then he uh even his wife said, If if I can't come, because they're actually they take care of her m her mother.
- 7:17SPEAKER_01: Oh, that's why they moved.
- 7:19SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 7:19SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 7:19SPEAKER_00: So she goes, even if I can't come, he's coming.
- 7:22SPEAKER_00: I it's happening.
- 7:23SPEAKER_01: Oh my god, that's great.
- 7:24SPEAKER_01: More on that on the way.
- 7:25SPEAKER_01: That's that that what a nice way to start today.
- 7:28SPEAKER_00: I know.
