- 0:30loss. So get ready to gree with me, Porsche the producer, let's
- 0:35dive in. Hey, everybody, welcome to Group Porsche. I am your
- 0:46host and face Portione the producer, and this is Grow Porsche on Location.
- 0:51So as always I asked, don't forget too like share and subscribe to keep
- 0:54you with the latest and grace of all grew with portion. So today on
- 0:58location, we are joining by our girls from Island Beats, Zoe and Iris,
- 1:03and we also have our friends from the American Long Association, Miss Kiara.
- 1:07So for starters, everybody, you know I love to start off my
- 1:11conversations with gratitude. I noticed that the WiFi pass for downstairs to gratitude,
- 1:15So why not? So we'll start with you, Zoe, what are you
- 1:17grateful for today? I am grateful for the opportunity to be around such beautiful
- 1:23women today works from me. Why not? You know that's a real thing,
- 1:32right, because we tend to sometimes not always be in community where we
- 1:38feel safe, when we feel herb when we feel as though there's a connection
- 1:42deeper than just superficial business to business. Right. I agree? What about
- 1:47you, Iris? I am grateful that every women are starting to get our
- 1:53message. We have a message, and you know because we built Island Beats
- 1:59for a purpose. And I thank you ladies for getting our message from understanding
- 2:06why are we here? Everybody has a purpose and you guys am to stupid
- 2:09our purpose? Thank you. Yeah, there's always a pain point to the
- 2:15purpose, and we're gonna dive more into that so I can say I'm grateful
- 2:19as always for these opportunities. Those of you who know Grow a Portion will
- 2:23be four in October now, and when I started do a porche its thank
- 2:27you, Thank you so much. This is one of my dreams was to
- 2:30be able to take Grow a Portion on the road and be able to have
- 2:32these social conversations with people, to really share the richness that's within stories,
- 2:38and also to be able to give people an opportunity to see that there's more
- 2:43to us beyond what we do in the face of the public. So I'm
- 2:46grateful for these opportunities. What about you, Ka, I think you all
- 2:50headed on the head. I think I'm grateful to have two other organizations willing
- 2:53to partner with me to help us get our mission across that we know to
- 2:59help fight lucky. I think it takes the community, and you're seeing the
- 3:01community here together awesome. What's the what's the word unity and community lie?
- 3:14So one of the things that all of us have in common, being the
- 3:19human beings that we are, is grief, right each and every one of
- 3:23us, those of you who know I talked about my grief journey and losing
- 3:24both my parents and I amongst each other. But one of the central things
- 3:29that grew with Porscha is showcasing the gift, the hidden gift that comes from
- 3:34our grief journey. So I'm gonna start with Kiar at first. We all
- 3:38have what would you say is the hidden gift within a recent grief journey that
- 3:42you've had. I would say that you find strength that you didn't know you
- 3:46had the ability to pull from where you thought you had nothing else to pull
- 3:52from. You typically don't discover those things until you're in something tragic like grief.
- 3:58So that's something I've learned over my my recent griefs. Yes, yeah,
- 4:01strength, I can agree with that. Right, Like, there's this
- 4:04flame that you have that you know tends to be anger, right where anger
- 4:10is a good thing. I think we tend to put a negative connotation on
- 4:13anger, but I can say from my journey, anger has been kind of
- 4:15that feel for me to take action. And what about you, ivers,
- 4:19what would you say is that hidden gift? I think that my hidden gift,
- 4:24mostly everybody's hidden gift is faith. Faith. Have faith that you can
- 4:30bypass that have faith that you have family that will support you, friends that
- 4:36will support you. Have faith in God. You know there's always something higher
- 4:42and more, way above and stronger than you are, and I believe in
- 4:46that. Yeah, I agree, Yeah, that faith is is that what
- 4:48I call the life jack You know, grief is kind of the life jacking
- 4:54are on the ocean, right, But it's that faith that gets us back
- 4:57to shore and gives us that opportunit say, you know what, I can
- 5:00swim and I can also drown. So I think that's a good way to
- 5:04put it. And I just I appreciate that. What about you, Zo,
- 5:08what's the hidden gifting? Grom and I had drowned. So for me,
- 5:12the hidden gift that I discovered in my grief was a purpose for my
- 5:18life M that I didn't even know elaborate on that existed. So my father
- 5:26was diagnosed with stage four lung cancer in February of twenty nineteen MM and it
- 5:34was pretty tragic like it. It came about all of a sudden, but
- 5:39not that I think about it. It really wasn't cause he was complaining about
- 5:42certain things. But anyway, May he died MM And from February to May,
- 5:49I needed an outlet. I needed something to do. And both my
- 5:54mom and my dad knew that I had started taking Zoomer classes and they were
- 5:58both like, just go and when then come back when you're done. So
- 6:01I would go to these classes, not realizing that I would be here,
- 6:06you know, four or five years later, and that that it kind of
- 6:12it was a flame that M that sparked in me. It wasn't anger.
- 6:15It was. It was grief, it was sadness, but within there I
- 6:19found joy, which is kind of like sweating drowned at the same time,
- 6:26when you're experiencing you know someone's that you love them passing away and you're learning
- 6:32something new that you like, it's like not duality. So there's a lot
- 6:36of little gifts in there. I guess for me in that journey, I
- 6:42love how you brought up the word duality because I think grief does paint that
- 6:46if we're open to sitting in it, right. It shows the reality of,
- 6:50yes, I'm hurting because this person who I've grown to love all these
- 6:56years is no longer here, right, But then also the world world around
- 7:00me is still going on, right, So it paints the yes, I'm
- 7:04gonna have sad moments, but also I'm gonna have happy memories with other people
- 7:10without this person with me. Yeah. So, before we jump into the
- 7:13next part of the conversation, if our audience wants to connect with you and
- 7:18learn more about you and come in up dance the pain away, like right,
- 7:24right? Could you guys share your social media or a website where they
- 7:28can find you. We can be found on Instagram. I'm looking at the
- 7:30camera right. Instagram at land dot Beats, dot Ceiling, and we're also
- 7:41on Facebook island Beats for Iris and Zoe. We have a Facebook page individually.
- 7:46You can follow Iris at the Ava nineteen eighteen and n e v eighteen.
- 7:51Just look up a part snow look at fish and my handle on ig
- 7:59is gone on dot Girl, dot go. I I just wanted to say
- 8:03just I wanted to touch base back on that because I lost my dad all
- 8:09of a sudden, not cancer, but it was a there was a very
- 8:13tragic death, and it puts you back to reality. You have to be
- 8:20realistic, guys. We are not here to live forever. It's a grief.
- 8:26Yes, I cried and cried, and up to this day I still
- 8:28it's been twenty years. But my thing is it's the reality of it.
- 8:35And this is where you learn to walk those steps because you have to be
- 8:41come back to reality because this is what's gonna happen to all of us.
- 8:46So just that guy, as we go, our kids, our family are
- 8:50gonna be grieving us also, So we have to be realistic and teach that
- 8:56forward. This is the real thing. And then, and I always say
- 8:58that when I was going up, there's three things in life that you can't
- 9:01avoid. I mean, there's three things in like that you can't that you
- 9:05can't avoid, which is death, which is make somebody to love you,
- 9:11and which is and which is trying to be something else that you're not those
- 9:16three things. So I always known that since I was little, and my
- 9:22mother always told me that, and that put me back to reality. And
- 9:26I thank you for sharing now. Is because I mean, when you think
- 9:30about grief is a part of all of our journey, but we have been
- 9:35conditioned to see grief in such a negative light, right, And what I'm
- 9:39hearing from everybody who's present here is that we've all taken our grief journey and
- 9:46turned it into something purposeful, something powerful. Yeah, And I can share
- 9:52with all of you that through losing both my parents, I'm thirty one years
- 9:56old and I'm an adult orphan, right, And I can laugh at it
- 9:58because pretty funny, but it's like, at the same time I know that
- 10:03my parents are proud. I also am open to the fact that I can
- 10:09help other people. Right, Because grief, even though it's a process,
- 10:13right, there's also an opportunity for us to grow. Yeah, there's also
- 10:16an opportunity for us to really choose to live a life to the fullest,
- 10:22because, like Iris was saying, it puts the reality check in front of
- 10:24like, here's your check, now read it. It says this amount of
- 10:28money and that's all you're getting. And I think that if we take that
- 10:31approach with our grief and embrace it instead of invade it, I think it'd
- 10:37be a little smooth of the ryme. So that kind of leads to the
- 10:41next part of the conversation that I wanted to start with. So I know,
- 10:46Kiara, you are here with us because we have a special event that
- 10:52is going on that all of us are going to be a partner. So
- 10:54I'm gonna let you share about it. Then we'll let iris Is always share
- 10:58with their part is gonna be. Yeah, Well, I think it's two
- 11:03things because there's a pre event to the event. But Zoe and Iris are
- 11:09grateful been a pleasure that they're willing to have a zoomba class where they will
- 11:15be donating the funds to our Lungforce Walk. So our Lungforce Walk is going
- 11:20to be Sunday, October first at the Cleveland Metro Park Zoo. Yeah,
- 11:26with Cleveland Clinic Respiratory Institute being the presenting sponsor again, and I think something
- 11:31new this year is that we hear walk and we think a walk is a
- 11:35walk, But really we want it to be a fun community event where you
- 11:39can come and you can participate in games, enjoy some zoomba, learn about
- 11:45our mission, learn some lung facts, and get to mingle with other people
- 11:50in your community. You care about the same things you care about. How
- 11:52I'm really excited about it. I'm really excited to be at the zoo.
- 11:56And then you get the added bonus of well, if we wrap up,
- 11:58you could to enjoy the rest of your day at the zoo complimentary compliments of
- 12:03a la so KEA really quick for our audience if they want to register for
- 12:07the event, if they have not joined a team, is there a website
- 12:11or social media or contact they can find to do that? Yeah, so
- 12:16you can go to lungforce dot org slash Cleveland to register or create a team,
- 12:22and then as well, you can follow us at American Lung Cleveland to
- 12:26keep up with all that we're doing here in Cleveland and are in our bio.
- 12:31Is some more links for you if you can't find that, and our
- 12:33link of being up soon because we have a team at Island bas team.
- 12:37So we're gonna put our link on our social media, join our team and
- 12:41thing. Yes, yeah, I mean, and you know it's it's a
- 12:46collective, right, yeah, you know, is we do these types of
- 12:50collaborations, there's a bigger purpose behind it, right, Each and every one
- 12:54of us has what I call the wide effects. We all have our wife.
- 12:58For both of you, it stems from your journey of creating Island Beats
- 13:03and the pain of losing somebody saying with me, my mom was a lu
- 13:07Enforce hero. And that's how I even got involved with the American Lung Association
- 13:11because my very first walk, my very first walk was the very last walk
- 13:16to me and my mom did as a team. Oh and I'll never forget
- 13:20it because it was so profound and so powerful. My mom was on oxygen,
- 13:26had our walker walking up and this was at the Rock and Roll Hall
- 13:31of Fame the year that I went with my mom. My mom finished her
- 13:35entire mom on oxygen and with her walker. That's amazing. And so I
- 13:39always remember that, you know, as my why to show up for other
- 13:45people and not only just continue my mom's legacy, but also encourage other people.
- 13:48Yea, yeah, that's good stuff. You know. I'm gonna touch
- 13:52on something we were talking about in the beginning before we started this conversation when
- 13:56it comes to breathing, right, and you were kind of talking about a
- 14:01little bit. Why do we tend to hold our breath when we're doing cardio
- 14:05exercises and how can people remember to actually breathe when they're doing some type of
- 14:11cardio. Well, I'll just say real quick that you need that oxygen.
- 14:18You need that oxygen because you're betting goes so much of the other stuff that
- 14:22comes out of your body you need to replace it. So I think that
- 14:28we tend to hold our breath because we think that's that's easy. It's easy.
- 14:33It's like a default kind of thing, right, Like we just default
- 14:37to that. Yeah, but when you make a point so bringing that,
- 14:43I'm serious. Yeah, And that's part of the reason why I think we
- 14:48can be so loud. We use our voices a lot when we're doing zoo
- 14:52because we're breathing, and that helps to kind of keep us energized. So
- 15:01I also think that you know, there's the same you can't think and chew
- 15:05gum at the same time. So sometimes people are working out and they can't
- 15:09do that breathing technique at the same time. So it takes practice. And
- 15:13while we teach, we show our girls breathing, relax, breathe out.
- 15:20It's not it's not a race. Oh I'm gonna get to the next song.
- 15:22No, it's an exercise, but that whole exercise has to come with
- 15:28the full body effect. Also, hydration is very important, so that helps
- 15:33to breathe better. Not a fan, not a fan, so everybody.
- 15:39So it's all hard in here. You need to hydrate because that's when you're
- 15:43It's like your body comes back to life every time you take a sip of
- 15:48water, so that's very important too, and then you stay beautiful like me.
- 15:54It's like putting water on the dry plant, just sprout exactly. Yeah,
- 16:03back to life. That's a reality. Three three, yes, yes,
- 16:10well sometimes you need to just let it out to Yeah. I'm like
- 16:15in yoga they're big on that. It's not it's because you're releasing the air
- 16:22and all the toxins out of your body. So yeah, it's important.
- 16:26We all got to do that, like take that in and you know,
- 16:30I want to thank you and every one of you for being a part of
- 16:33group with Porsche. We're gonna wrap up here. We're gonna start with Kiara.
- 16:36I always love to save this question for last for our listeners who's tuning
- 16:41in. What words of inspiration can you leave with them today? Whether someone
- 16:47who was wants in your shoes and wants to really make a difference in their
- 16:51life starting today, What words of inspiration can you leave with them today?
- 16:55Oh boy, put me on the spot, puttin the fire. They didn't
- 17:00know this question before the beginning. I'm yeah, I'm like a jack in
- 17:06the box. I'm don't you gonna get neither? Well, I don't.
- 17:07I will. I'll say that since I've only been with a La well a
- 17:11year. I used to intern here back, you know, when I went
- 17:14to the Ohio State University. So it's been a But what I've learned is
- 17:18when I get to have these conversations with the poor show with a Zoe,
- 17:22with some of these other individuals who've lost their loved ones, and that's why
- 17:27they reach out. They're seeking us. They want to know what they can
- 17:30do to get awareness outcause they didn't know. Right. People always think that
- 17:36you only get lung cancer because you smoked. You only get lung cancer because
- 17:38you were around someone who smoked. So they often think like, right,
- 17:42I didn't know, right, and I wasn't seeking the information. But now
- 17:45that I know, I want to share that information. So I think it's
- 17:48very inspiring that instead of we don't hide away, we come and we seek
- 17:53one another when we're looking. We want to fill that void we don't.
- 17:57For the most part, those have been some of the uh, you don't
- 18:00know, the most beneficial conversations. I didn't know when I approached Zovie and
- 18:04Iris, so she had the connection to lung health and lung cancer. You
- 18:07you, I have So often I go out and I'm in the community trying
- 18:11to get people to join us and partner with us, and they're they've lost
- 18:15someone, their son has asthma, their child suffered long terms effects of RSV,
- 18:22and so I think it's often inspired to me to know that we're not
- 18:25alone. There's someone else going through hardships also, and when we can come
- 18:29together, we can support one another and you know, join together. Thank
- 18:34you for sharing. I I can't agree like that. Community and grief can
- 18:38be so isolating. Something. Yeah, So I can agree I respect about
- 18:44you. What words are besp Edukiley with our listeners, I just say,
- 18:48retail to your community. You know, there's so many things out there that
- 18:52you can help. Just a little grain of rice. You know how rice
- 18:56grows, it grows. And the more the more can we talk to the
- 19:00community and you put the little grain of rice, the more blessed you will
- 19:04be in your life. You have to do that. You can't just take
- 19:10take, take, You gotta give and give and give. And that's important
- 19:15because what you take insight here is what's important, not what you have around
- 19:21you that stays. What you take with you is your conscience and your good
- 19:29way of being a good human being. So for me that's important, Like
- 19:33man, hey, my drop on that, go ahead, And so what
- 19:40words of inspiration can you leave? You know that first Well, the second
- 19:45question you ask is about the gifts. Find the gifts and life and enjoyed
- 19:52life. I mean, we can be so stressed out, we can be
- 19:56so worried about the future. We can be stressed because we got bills to
- 20:00pay and you know the kids in school, you know, just any and
- 20:04every yeah, yeah, but when do we get a chance to really actually
- 20:08enjoy by Yeah exactly, you know, and I have made it my mission
- 20:15at fifty five years old. My life isn't that perfect. I got craziness
- 20:19like everyone. But I tell you what, I'm gonna try my best to
- 20:25enjoy the rest of my life because I saw what happens to my father.
- 20:30Mark your calendar for September twenty four, one thirty to two thirty pm at
