- 0:00Um, you know, the first thing comes to
- 0:03my mind is it's such an incredible
- 0:05environment and in a hard place to play
- 0:07and um there there's different types of
- 0:09wins and and to be able to win here. I'm
- 0:11really proud of the guys. Um that Auburn
- 0:13team is is is difficult to stop and um
- 0:16they have so many threats and in this
- 0:18building I just think they play at a
- 0:19high level and uh for us to have a
- 0:22response after the way after we played
- 0:24poorly against Oklahoma and um we wanted
- 0:28to show that wasn't us. that didn't feel
- 0:29like us. And then uh to be able to
- 0:31bounce back here and and then we just
- 0:33had to deal with so so much adversity
- 0:35and and and and not cave in. And um we
- 0:37just kept having responses with foul
- 0:39troubles and lineups and uh we got some
- 0:42injuries and things like that. The guys
- 0:43were just set on getting a win and and I
- 0:45thought they just had a um a tunnel
- 0:47vision on getting that.
- 0:49>> Second row.
- 0:51>> Coach, first win here in a decade for
- 0:53Vanderville basketball. You talk about
- 0:54the injuries and guys that didn't get to
- 0:56play. How did you power through that as
- 0:58a team and what does this win mean
- 1:00moving forward for your squad?
- 1:01>> Yeah, I mean my big guys played really
- 1:03well today and um you know with Jaylen
- 1:05Washington and De Mclaclin and we were
- 1:07in a bigger lineup and um we got thrown
- 1:10off with AKO Carrick getting foul
- 1:11trouble. This is back toback games in
- 1:13the first half and that kind of hurt us.
- 1:16Um but I think those guys stepped up um
- 1:19really really just kind of made plays
- 1:21and we're we got to reinvent oursel. I
- 1:23mean, we're we looked a certain way in
- 1:26December. We looked a certain way in in
- 1:28January the first couple weeks and and
- 1:30now right now. And and uh we're still
- 1:32fighting. Um you know, I know it was a
- 1:35funny stat after we lost to Oklahoma.
- 1:37And this is a way of framing things. And
- 1:39and they the the stat was that um we're
- 1:42three and four in our last seven games.
- 1:44And um maybe now they'll say they've won
- 1:47four of their last five. Um you know,
- 1:49I'm more of an optimistic, sunny type
- 1:51person. So, um, maybe that'll be more
- 1:54more the the the line
- 1:55>> back. Coach Tyler Tanner made a couple
- 1:58really difficult shots. Just how
- 2:00comfortable you with the ball in his
- 2:01hands. What kind of difference does it
- 2:03make to a player like that?
- 2:04>> Yeah, I mean, he's obviously he has my
- 2:06utmost trust and um I feel comfortable,
- 2:09our team feels comfortable with him
- 2:10making a play. Um, he just puts so much
- 2:12pressure on the defense. he just goes
- 2:14after him and you um you know he's he's
- 2:17got a baby face but he is he is very
- 2:20very competitive and um so I I think
- 2:24we're feeding off his competitiveness
- 2:26and um you know for him to be able to
- 2:28play the minutes he did under the
- 2:29pressure he did I mean we don't have
- 2:31another option right now so he knows a
- 2:33lot lots on his shoulders and he's
- 2:34delivering second
- 2:36>> coach your team shoots 77% from the free
- 2:38throw line tonight you were 26 of 30
- 2:40possibly an elementary type question but
- 2:42what does the free throw I mean,
- 2:43especially when you're on the road to
- 2:44handle the runs that the home team's
- 2:46going to give you throughout the night.
- 2:47>> Yeah, we knew Auburn was going to fight
- 2:48back and um we we did a great job of not
- 2:51turning the ball over to get to the free
- 2:53throw line and I thought our guys came
- 2:55to the ball and and show composure. Um
- 2:57but that was the first part and the odd
- 2:59thing was we had a terrific free throw
- 3:01shooter go 0 for two in that segment. Um
- 3:04so um you know it's it's something we
- 3:06work on. Our guys like being in this
- 3:08situation and you have to do something
- 3:10like that to beat a good team on the
- 3:11road. I mean, you can't go up there and
- 3:13shoot 60% or we're not winning the game.
- 3:16>> Coach, uh Jaylen Washington probably had
- 3:18the most efficient night on the floor,
- 3:20seven for eight. Uh didn't miss a free
- 3:22throw tonight, 22 points. Can you talk
- 3:24about uh what was working out there for
- 3:25him tonight?
- 3:26>> Yeah, so proud of him. Um he's a people
- 3:29pleaser. He wants to make people happy.
- 3:30He's such a a good person, great heart,
- 3:33and um you know, for him to go out when
- 3:37the team really needed him, you know,
- 3:38like right now like like this is this is
- 3:41the night like we really needed him to
- 3:42play that well. And um he was making
- 3:45threes, he was finishing around the rim,
- 3:46he was rebounding with presence and uh
- 3:48his defense was great. We we lost things
- 3:50when he wasn't on the court defensively.
- 3:52Um that hurt us when he was in foul
- 3:54trouble. But I could tell you this, I'm
- 3:56so happy for him. I can tell you
- 3:57everybody in the locker room is so happy
- 3:58for him just because type of person he
- 4:00is.
- 4:01>> One more front left was 11 for 27 on
- 4:04layups. I guess what was the plan to to
- 4:06stop especially guys like Kean Hall
- 4:07getting to the basket and what do you
- 4:09think it was that you guys did that made
- 4:10Auburn so comfortable around the rim?
- 4:12Yeah, we we wanted to take away the
- 4:14uncontested layups where they they saw,
- 4:16you know, a clear look at the rim and we
- 4:18wanted to try to shoot into bodies and
- 4:21um we did a great job of of getting
- 4:23there and getting vertical of trying to
- 4:24make them score over us and you know, it
- 4:27was one of those things we were going to
- 4:28see if they'd make the pass out of there
- 4:30and then if they missed the shot, we had
- 4:33to get the rebound and times we did and
- 4:35times we didn't. But it definitely was a
- 4:37game plan to make sure that we're we're
- 4:39staying vertical in there. We're trying
- 4:40to make him go through us.
