- 1:08Drums of Death. What is it? Another case for Nick Carter, Detective.
- 1:40Yes, it's another case for that most famous of all manhunters, the
- 1:42detective who's ability as solving crime is unequaled in the history of detective fiction.
- 1:47Nick Cutter, Master Detectives, The Night's Curious Adventure. The Drums of Death
- 1:53are Nick Carter and the Mystery of the White Witch Doctor. And so,
- 2:04gentlemen, you will find and close the compete prose here on the criminal in
- 2:07question, plus all the evidence need it for a conviction. Yours, very
- 2:09truly, Etctera Wait a minute, Wait a minute, minute, not so
- 2:13fast, yours very truly? Okay, what now? What else do we
- 2:17have to take care of? Patsy? The only unfinished business I know right
- 2:21now is this bunch of letters from that missus Galli. Oh yes, what
- 2:24was it this missus Galli wanted me to do. She's worried about her doctor,
- 2:28Nick, and she wants to consult you. Oh, let her consult
- 2:30another doctor if she doesn't like the one she's gotten. Now throw her letters
- 2:32out, Patsy. Let's go celebrate having our old business all cleaned up.
- 2:37Well, I would, Nick, except that the letter we got from her
- 2:38today throws a new light on her problem. What if she have to say
- 2:43today that was so vibal? She says she's afraid of her doctorate. Of
- 2:46Oh, missus Galli's that old wealthy dowager I met at somebody's tea a few
- 2:52weeks ago. Isn't she who she is? And she she's probably a crotch
- 2:55at the old hypochondriac whose hobby is doctors? That, isn't it. Now
- 2:59that she's see every physician in town, she wants to start in collecting detectives.
- 3:04Does she say why she's afraid of whatever doctor she's going to. Now,
- 3:07yes she does, nick, she says he's he's a witch doctor.
- 3:23It was very kind of you to come, mister Carter. I hoped you
- 3:28would. I confess I wasn't too eager, Missus Galli, until miss Bourne
- 3:30told me about your last letter. I well, perhaps it's still to believe
- 3:36in such things as voodoo and black magic nowadays. But I don't know what
- 3:39to suppose you tell your story and let me be the gent. Well,
- 3:45there isn't much to tell, mister Carter. I was what the only the
- 3:50wind? Missus Gallley, it's nothing. I'm so unnerved. Well, here's
- 3:55my story. Last week my nephew, Walter Gallley told me about a wonderful
- 4:00new doctor he discovered, a doctor Congo. I wasn't feeling well and the
- 4:06name interested me, so I went to see him. Good morning, Is
- 4:14doctor Congo here? Good morning, madam? Yes, the doctor is in.
- 4:17Can't say I remember a doctor's office in Vanderbilt Square before you're new here?
- 4:23Aren't you? Have you come to see doctor Congo? Madam? Naturally?
- 4:27Do I look like an insurance salesman? Have you an appointment? Missus
- 4:31Galley? Is the name, Missus Gally. My nephew made an appointment for
- 4:35me. Oh yes, Missus Galley, will you step this way please?
- 4:41Doctor Congo's expecting you. Thank you. Wait a moment. What's that noise?
- 4:47Drums? Madam? Drums? What drums? You'll step inside, Missus
- 4:53Gally. You'll find out for yourself very well. Drums. Indeed, what
- 5:00a princess this? Good morning, Missus Galley. I presume i'm doctor Congo.
- 5:08Good morning, doctor Congo. I want god? What a storm go
- 5:15on? Missus gall Why did you scream? Because I thought, I thought,
- 5:20yes, what did you see? Oh? White savage? What?
- 5:25From his neck to his toes? Doctor Congo was an ordinary man. He
- 5:29was wearing white shouses, formal cutaway jacket, wing collar, aspati. He
- 5:32was beautifully dressed. But his face, yes, his face was hid shaven
- 5:41skull, a horrid grinning mouth, showing his teeth which had all been filed
- 5:47to a point. And he had a bone through his nose like a cannibal.
- 5:55Yes, it's I was stunned, and then then I thought it might
- 6:00be a joke. My nephew Walter was playing on me. I set down
- 6:04while the drums throbbed I'm sorry, I screamed, Dr Congo, but you
- 6:12gave me quite a start. I usually do that to my clients, Missus
- 6:15Gally, Oh what kind of a doctor? Are you a witch doctor?
- 6:21You're fooling, aren't you. On the contrary, but it's unbelievable. We
- 6:27only talk about things like witchcraft nowadays. I am not joking, Missus Gally.
- 6:30I've spent fifteen years in the heart of Africa studying voodoo. My face,
- 6:35the drums, the African witchcraft apparatus in this room all are necessary part
- 6:42of my profession. Profession. Yes, I am a professional witch doctor and
- 6:47as such can guarantee miracles that modern medicine would never dream of. Ridiculous.
- 6:55I don't believe you really. Oh yeah, Kahda, pardon me, Missus
- 7:01Galley. I was just ordering my men to begin the voodoo drum in Cantife.
- 7:08None of my clients believe me at first, Missus Galley, but I
- 7:13convinced them. Now, if you'll allow me, I have merely remove the
- 7:18lock of your hair. Now in spite of yourself, you are officially one
- 7:24of my patients, and I warn you my fee is high. You're wasting
- 7:29your time. I don't want to be a patient of yours, and I
- 7:32won't pay any fee. I'm leaving Potato a moment. Go on my arm.
- 7:40You don't understand me, Missus Galley, and I'm afraid you don't understand
- 7:43voodoo. This lock of your hair places your health in my hands. Your
- 7:47life or death are mine to do with as I desire. And my fee
- 7:53for this visage is ten thousand dollars a gipot of my way, ten thousand
- 7:59dollars, Misus Galley. I listen closely. Three times. You will hear
- 8:03my congo drums roll no matter where you are. If you have not save,
- 8:09when you hear them for the third time, you will die. Good
- 8:13morning, Missus Galley. Then, mister Cutton, I ran out of that
- 8:20office. I'm sixty five and not as strong as I was, but I
- 8:26was frightening. I realized he was threatening to kill me with voodoo, and
- 8:31we don't believe in that nowadays, do not as a rule. Three drum
- 8:35rolls, he told me. And if I don't pay by the third one,
- 8:39I die. Stuff nonsense, I said, And then that's very nice.
- 8:46When I was alone in this room, I heard the distant role of
- 8:50Congo from guy im. Missus Gallay, you must calm yourself. I'm sure
- 8:54it's only your nerves. We don't believe in witchcraft today. You've got to
- 8:58believe me. Mister Carton, I've already that doctor Congo's frum me one.
- 9:01Perhaps you only think you did. Missus doctor Kngo was playing on your nerves.
- 9:05Hysteria can make us think we hear anything. No, no, no
- 9:07no, I'm sure I heard that wasn't Missus Galley's imagination. I heard it
- 9:18too, and show did I Patty? Doctor you have saved me from doctor
- 9:22Congo. Mister Carter, you god, I'm lost, will kill me?
- 9:26Help me? Help me? Missus Galli. You I never believe, but
- 9:33I do not joke, comes Miss Joe, Missy, listen to me.
- 9:52I'll take over this case, so don't worry. Now. Where can I
- 9:56find your nephew Walter? He's usually in the bubble bar cafe? Up?
- 10:03Mister, is that doctor Congo? Get me? I call her maiden,
- 10:13tell her to put her to bed. We've got to get out of here.
- 10:13You'll go back to the office. I'm gonna look for Missus Galli's nephew.
- 10:16Actor Coo isn't he the one you want to see? No, I
- 10:20have a hunched this case hinges on Walter Gally. This bar cafes pretty perfecting
- 10:39guy place. This is a fancy name. Nobody here about the bar piano.
- 10:50Well, let's be too early in the evening. Good evening you now,
- 10:56will it be information? I'm looking for someone who Walter Glly. Oh
- 11:03him, Walter ain't come in yet? Hang around he do any minute?
- 11:07He live around here, Yeah, across the street River apartment. I see
- 11:13he owes you money too, huh? How's that? Don't play dumb?
- 11:16Pal Golly's clipped us all. Somebody's always coming around looking for him. Well,
- 11:22i'd give plenty to get back what he owes me. He's no good
- 11:26house chances of collecting zero pal zero. Jolly claims he's got a rich old
- 11:31land who's gonna leave him plenty when she kicks off. But I don't for
- 11:35the logo. What is it? Spider man turn around and look? Oh
- 11:41good evening, mister ah, Doctor Congo, I presume quite right? What's
- 11:50that thing he's good for a face? Don't you find it inconvenient walking around
- 11:54wearing a bone through your nose? Doctor, Congo. No, mister Cole,
- 11:56I don't. It's my business, and what's your business with me?
- 12:01You see this African spear I'm carrying, Yes, I'm going to present it
- 12:05to you. And why merely are a warning, my impulsive frame? A
- 12:09warning? Yes, a warning? Keep away from Walter Galley and his aunt
- 12:15or the next time my drums roll, they'll beat for your death, my
- 12:18dear witch doc. And just to punctuate my warning, here's the pell I
- 12:22promise you you just miss you. Well that spear, mister keep in prosauvenir
- 12:28bart Tenner. I'm going after that man. Hey, do corgo do cogo?
- 12:37Corgo? Thinks you can scare me off of that voodoo nonsense? Hango
- 12:39hao, it's cutting across the street. Well see if up front me?
- 12:46Hey han Nika, you all right? Nick? Oh what happened then?
- 13:03Oh? Yes, as I remember? Now? Oh is that you passy?
- 13:05It's me all right? That was close. What happened? I got
- 13:09here just as that car must mind you down? Whoever it was. He
- 13:13tried his best to get rid of me. But why probably because I was
- 13:16chasing doctor Congo. Doctor Congo, yes bade me a visit when I was
- 13:22looking for water. Gally at the Bubble Bar cafe. Yes, Congo threw
- 13:26an African spear at me. I chased him out to the street. Probably
- 13:31had an accomplice waiting with a car for just such an emergency. We Nick,
- 13:33might have killed you. They certainly tried hard enough, must have jumped
- 13:37a mile trying to dodge that car. Nick, listen, I came down
- 13:41here looking for you. What's happened Missus Galli's maids in the office Just as
- 13:43I got there, she was hysterical. She could hardly talk. What happened?
- 13:46Peessy, Missus Galli has done? Mister Carter. I'm so glad you
- 14:03can Missus gillis disappear. You mean Missus galliher she must filtered the way monsieur
- 14:09by witchcufts. It's horrible. She's simply vanished. When did you say,
- 14:13Missus Galli last? After you leave? I put her to bed. She
- 14:18has been a faire you remember, remember she does not rest, she cannot
- 14:22sleep. She scream and laughs. So I can I will get her?
- 14:26They off me. I mean the kitchen when I yell scream upstairs and Senior
- 14:31said, she does not scream. She's are you saying cut off. I
- 14:37enter the bedroom and and what you must look for yourself? Monsieur, I
- 14:43do not go into this room again. Come on, okay, oh Nick,
- 14:50do you really think doctor Condom made missus galliy Vanish? I don't know
- 14:52what to think yet. But the rud drum. We heard them when we
- 14:56were here before, Yes, we heard them. That's the bedroom. Yes,
- 15:01m hm. Broom looks all right, nothing upset, no sign of
- 15:05a struggle. But look on the bed, the bed, ah, what
- 15:11is it? Nick? Looks like dust dust forming the outline of a human
- 15:16figure. There's any truth in voodoo, Patsy. That's what's left of missus
- 15:22Galliyh. Nick. This is awful, steady, but this must be real
- 15:26witchcraft. Nick. No human agency could do this to missus Kelly. The
- 15:31drum, the congo drum. Let's get out of here. If I have
- 15:35no drums again, I'll scream. That's horful. You better get ready to
- 15:37hear plenty more, Patsy. Right now, we're going to pay a visit
- 15:39to doctor Congo. This is Vanderbilt Square, Patsy. Look for doctor Congo's
- 15:58sign. Do we have to come here? We do, Patsy. I
- 16:02want to have a look at doctor Congo's office, A nice little residential section.
- 16:06It's awfully dark, no lights in the houses anywhere. I'm Nick.
- 16:11There it is the doctor sign. Yes, Congo w D probably stands for
- 16:17witch doctor. All right, Patty, come on, certainly you don't believe
- 16:22in voodoo, Patsy. I never did before, but doctor Congo seems to
- 16:26change my mind. Maybe would you rather wait in the car? What desert
- 16:30you? I may be scared, but I'm no coward. That's the girl,
- 16:33Petsy. I'm trying, but it's nice. My teeth chattered too loud.
- 16:37Well, here we are, a nice side window, going to have
- 16:41a peek inside, going to break in? What's that? Just a gadget,
- 16:45Patsy for unlocking locked windows? Now we turn the catch and there we
- 16:56are. I'll go first, Patsy. Okay, all right, I'm gonna
- 17:03give you a hand. Patsy. Right, and here we are in the
- 17:11den of the witch doctor. What are you looking for? Any clues?
- 17:15It'll help us rather do it by daylight, but this flashlight will have to
- 17:18serve. Hurry up, Nick, I want to get out of here.
- 17:25Well, sorry to interrupt mister Cutton again. I believe just paying a friendly
- 17:30call. Doctor Congo interested in Missus Gally's unfortunate disappearance. Eh, you know
- 17:37about that, naturally, my voodoo did it. Missus Galley was too stubborn
- 17:41to pay the fee. She owed me. I would advise you to raise
- 17:44your hands, mister Cutter. You see the young lady understands a native archer
- 17:51is eager to shoot. You'll not miss next time. What do you want,
- 17:53Congo? I thought it was obvious money, and I'm going to get
- 17:59it in spite of you, because unfortunately you're helpless. Cutter. You cannot
- 18:03fight my voodoo, and no law court will convict me of murder by witchcraft.
- 18:07The police will laugh at your evidence, at my evidence. I wonder
- 18:11you can wander on your way home, mister Cutter. This way out,
- 18:15and let me warn you never to return, or you'll not go out alive.
- 18:19Come on, neck, one last word. I've already spoken to Walter
- 18:25Gallley on the phone. He refuses to pay the money. His hand owed
- 18:27me. Walter has no money now, but he can raise plenty at a
- 18:30moment's notice on the inheritance he'll receive now that his aunt is dead. That's
- 18:36true. If his aunt is dead. You had better use your influence on
- 18:40him, if you have any, and persuade him to pay before it's too
- 18:42late. Another threat, Doctor Congo. Listen, mister cutter, I do
- 18:47not make empty threats. You've already seen the power of my voodoo in the
- 18:52case of missus Gaily. I'm not joking now. My black magic is already
- 18:56cutting away Walter Gally's life. Unless he agrees to pay I ask, in
- 19:00a very short time, he too will rot to dust. Good light,
- 19:07Nick, I can't believe it. He let us go HALLII. Yes,
- 19:11Passy, this time Congo over played his hand, and I believe a visit
- 19:15to Walter Galley's apartment will prove it. To Galley. Mister Galley, it's
- 19:33the Galley. No one home, and we'll just go in and wait.
- 19:37This looks like an easy lock to open. I'm almost afraid to go in.
- 19:42Do you like Passy worrying already? Radio playing the lights on? You
- 19:52must have just s What do you think, doctor Congress. Let's look around.
- 20:00Wait a minute, the rail Yeah, that's better. I wonder where
- 20:06Gally is. Maybe he went to pay that money to doctor Congo. Perhaps,
- 20:11but I doubt it. Nick, look what is it, Betty.
- 20:15Look at that couch beside the radio. It's covered with dust. Yes,
- 20:22I see, it's shaped like a human figure, exactly like the dust.
- 20:27And missus Galley's bed. Then Congo's killed water Gally too. The eviden seems
- 20:33to point that way. But how can Congo do his nick by voodoo?
- 20:36So Congo says, beat a few drums, melt a wax figure, and
- 20:40your victim ruts to dust. And there's the dust on the couch. And
- 20:45you believe it too. I didn't say that, Bessy. Listen the drama.
- 20:49Can oh, Nick, let drop this case. We can't fight the
- 20:52supernatural. We don't understand it. It's like trying to stop the wind.
- 20:56Trying to stop the wind. Of course, Betsy, that's the one last
- 20:59explanation I was looking for. I just thought of that myself. What I
- 21:03mean, this case is solved. Give me a moment to write a note
- 21:04here at Galley's desk, not writ doctor Congo. Right here, doctor Congo,
- 21:14you are right, I have no case for the police. I have
- 21:19just discovered that both your victims committed suicide. Sign Nick Cusher, that's a
- 21:33peculiar note. What does it mean? Doctor Congo will understand it. But
- 21:37naked couldn't be suicide, but missus Galli and water vanished, no bodies were
- 21:41fat. Congo will understand what it means. Pacy, Oh, naked just
- 21:45deliberately mystifying me. No, Patsy, you will understand too later, But
- 21:48right now I want you to deliver this note to missus Galley's made no questions.
- 21:51Now deliver it and hurry back to the office, because very shortly we're
- 21:53going to hear doctor Congo's drums beating again, and this time they'll be beating
- 21:56for us. Nick. Nick over here, Peessy delivered not yes, what
- 22:12in the world are you doing? Just setting up my motion picture projector?
- 22:15Oh, Nick, this is no time for movie. The police written Missus
- 22:18Galley's news about his disappearance is getting around. I understand the whole social set's
- 22:22going crazy. That's exactly what Congo wants. If you fail on this case,
- 22:26Nick, everyone would be afraid not to pay Congo. As I said,
- 22:30that's exactly what Congo wants. Said he was after money, didn't he
- 22:33Who do you think Kngo will attack Nick bru Congo brum. There's your answer,
- 22:38Petsy, you mean he's after us exactly. I know. It's got
- 22:44a quicker response than I thought it would. Bet. You put out the
- 22:45lights quickly, now what, No, the projector there, you see,
- 22:52I've got a set in the shape. Why that's why. It makes it
- 22:56look as if we were standing in front of the window talking. The shadows
- 22:59on the person look as natural as mine. Right now, get over to
- 23:03the side of the room, away from in front of the window. No
- 23:04butts. Final instructions were playing against the killer Patsy you mean congo. Yeah,
- 23:08I'm a floorer, white flat. I wish you Why what am I
- 23:12supposed to do? Wait? And when you hear shots, scream? Scream?
- 23:17You heard me? But who's going to do the shooting? Our old
- 23:19friend, Nick? You are right quiet, everything's all right. All that
- 23:29shot was the movie projector in about ten seconds. Now they're coming in here
- 23:32to check up on the results. Nick, did you say they just as
- 23:36soon as you hear the doors, I am turn on the lights. Don't
- 23:38argue, Betsy, Okay, not quiet. They took care of them.
- 23:48Yes, I think that, Betsy. Now as you see you're covered with
- 23:53this gun I hold in my hand. Nick, I told you Walter he
- 23:56was that Tommy Gun you have light on the table doctor Congo. But Nick,
- 24:03that's missus Gally. I thought you would say, that's what you were
- 24:07supposed to think, Petsy, and the chap with her is our nephew,
- 24:10Walter. But I don't understand me, Very simple, Ptsy. This clever
- 24:14pair created doctor Congo, a phony witch doctor played by Walter Gally. Their
- 24:18motive blackmail, and they pretended to be their own first two victims. I
- 24:22see, so they could disappear and then spend their entire time playing Doctor Congo,
- 24:26and also so that their fates would terrify future victims into paying Doctor Congo's
- 24:30exorbitant fees without any protest. You are indeed clever, mister Cutter, very
- 24:37clever. Then all that voodoo was make believe phony. Yes, Petsy,
- 24:41as phony is the shadows on our window shade, which this precious pear attacked.
- 24:45As phony is the makeup that turned Waller into a witch doctor. That's
- 24:49why I wrote that note Petsy about having learned that both disappearances were really suicides.
- 24:53They knew then that I'd seen through their whole Scheme's those mysterious johnbi to
- 24:59be heard even outside our own wind. Let me show you how that was
- 25:02done. Ah, yes, here is is he, Patsy? A simple
- 25:07gadget attached the outer frame a windmill connected to a small drum. When the
- 25:11wind blows hard enough, the drum beats. Watch, I'll spin it.
- 25:18So that's what scared me. That plus your imagination. It was imagination you
- 25:22two counted on. Most wasn't the doctor Congo? You conducted the voodoo tail
- 25:25planet your own clues, and then vanished the rest. You left the human
- 25:27nature, right, Jim? So why did they call you in, Nick?
- 25:30Why didn't they let well Enough alone? They were playing for high stakes,
- 25:33Betsy. They thought they had a perfect record and if I failed to
- 25:36break it, the victims wouldn't fight back. But the phony doctor Congo was
- 25:38far too eager to let us escape. That was the second important clue,
- 25:42The second What was the first? Missus Gally claimed she was in Congo's power
- 25:47because he'd cut off a lock of her hair. Remember, yes, but
- 25:49isn't that according to voodoo traditions? Certainly, but it couldn't work with Missus
- 25:53Gally? Why not? No, Patsy, you disappoint me. Look at
- 25:56Missus Gally. Now you're close enough, I see missus Galli where a wig,
- 26:03of course, Betsy, and a lock of hair cut from a wig
- 26:04would hardly put the wearer of the wig under the spell of even the best
- 26:07witch doctor in the world. Look here, Kutter, we can't stand here
- 26:11all night with our hands in the air like this. No, what are
- 26:15you going to do with us? Sorry to treat you to this way,
- 26:18but I don't like visitors, or bring Tommy a guns in my office.
- 26:22A fool to let you go when I had you in my office, Cutter,
- 26:23there were all kinds of a fool. Galley or do you prefer to
- 26:26be called doctor Congo. Ah, you hadn't been in such a hurry,
- 26:30your plans might not have been quite so apparent. And if you hadn't been
- 26:33so obvious and sunning me to see Walter Gally in the middle of the night
- 26:34when he hadn't had time to raise the money to pay you, even if
- 26:37you wanted to, I shouldn't have been quite so sure what your schemes were.
- 26:41Your eagerness to begin collecting from your victims was your downfall, all right.
- 26:45But the next time they all say, my friend, But they won't
- 26:48be any next time. Nick Carter plays for Keats. This has been another
- 27:10of the strange adventures off Nick Carter, Master Detective, which have brought to
- 27:12you regularly at the same time by w R. Mutual and now Philip Clark,
- 27:18who played Doctor Congo in our story Tonight has a message from our government
- 27:21that I want you all to hear. Go ahead, sill. A friend
- 27:23of mine asked me the other day, why do we need to save waste
- 27:26paper? And how come the supply of paper is limited? Well, the
- 27:30answer to that is obvious. An army needs men and lumberjacks, among others
- 27:34join the army. Fewer trees are cut down. Consequently, there's less paper
- 27:38made because there's less wood pulp available for making it. But that same war
- 27:44that cuts down the available supply of paper demands an ever increasing quantity of paper
- 27:48for many vital war needs. Paper goes into cottons and containers for food,
- 27:53weapons, and equipment needed by the armed forces. Paper is necessary for many
- 27:57of the actual weapons of war, such as incendiary bombs, bomb fins,
- 28:02wingtips, airplane signals, parachute flares, ration containers, and ammunition containers.
- 28:07And the American home is the greatest potential source of waste paper every kind is
- 28:14needed, bags, wrapping paper, newspaper, magazines, all containers, and
- 28:18so on. So if you're not already doing so, start to day salvaging
- 28:22all the waste paper you possibly can. Then sell it to your junk dealer
- 28:26or donate it to some charitable organization. But don't throw away a single scrap
- 28:30of paper. Make it help us win this war. And now, Nick,
- 28:34what about your story for next week? Well, let's about a gang
- 28:37of super crooks with stolen a very valuable invention and kidnapped the old inventor and
- 28:41his beautiful daughter to hold them as hostages. And even though I accidentally knew
- 28:45in advance what was going to happen, I was too late to stop them
- 28:48due to an unfortunate accident. But Nick more than made up for it the
- 28:51way he went after those crooks. Within twenty four hours he succeeded in capturing
- 28:55the gang and rescuing the professor and his daughter. Yes, Bessy, but
- 29:00it was fast and furious, well at lasted. Scovey and I were in
- 29:03hot water right up until the end of the chase. What do you call
- 29:04the story, Nick, I've called it The Professor's Secret for the Mystery of
- 29:10the z Rays. That's all until next week. So long, So long,
- 29:14everybody? So long? Do you both Nick and Patsy? In the
- 29:18strange adventure you have just heard? Nick Carter was impersonated by Lon Clark,
- 29:22Patsy by Helen Schote. The story was written for Nick Carter by Alfred Bester.
- 29:26Original music was played by Lou White. The entire production was under the
- 29:30direction of Jack McGregor. Next week, at the same time, listen to
- 29:44another curious experience of Nick Carter entitled a Professor's Secret or Nick Carter and the
- 29:49Mystery of the z Raise. This story is a copyrighted feature of streetent Smith
- 29:59Public Ad Incorporated. The Return of Nick Carter has produced in the studios of
- 30:03w o R and is broadcast over most of these stations every Saturday evening at
- 30:07seven o'clock Eastern War Time. And don't forget that the adventures I've Nick's adopted
- 30:12son, Chickcutter, are broadcast over most of these stations Mondays through Fridays at
- 30:18five point thirty pm Eastern War time. This is mutual welcome back. Another
- 30:37mostly solid case where a listener might be tempted to think that there's some truly
- 30:45spooky he's in behind the Witch Doctor's machinations. Oh that's put to rest in
- 30:51the end. I will say, the one thing that really disappointed me about
- 30:56this episode is the role that Pansy played in it. In this episode,
- 31:02she really is Nick Carter's only sidekick, and the way the writers wrote this
- 31:07was horrible. I mean, she couldn't seem to do anything. She needed
- 31:11Nick to tell her everything to do, including flapping the supposedly hysterical person who
- 31:19had appealed to Nick not even able to notice that she was wearing a wick.
- 31:26Patsy has been portrayed much stronger. You take a look listen a few
- 31:32weeks previously in Death after Dark, and she was really courageous and tough and
- 31:38willing to take a risk. So disappoint the inconsistency in this portrayal and just
- 31:44the way that it worked. But hopefully the other writers will be better.
- 31:49I should mention the two episodes that are lost in between Death and the Pines
- 31:55in this one, the Horoscope Murders and tigered It and Death. All right,
- 32:01Well, we have one listener comment before we go, and this one
- 32:07comes from Aloma says love your shows. Listen every day as I craft in
