Transcript
- 0:14Speaker 1: I got up.
- 0:17Speaker 2: I am Ryan from Fit for a King and I'm
- 0:19Speaker 2: going to talk about Lonely God and stuff.
- 0:23Speaker 3: This stuff I'd like to join his buddy, so Fit
- 0:27Speaker 3: for a King release your eighth studio album, Lately God
- 0:30Speaker 3: on August the First Base, So that's not long away.
- 0:33Speaker 4: Now, how are you feeling?
- 0:35Speaker 2: I feel good. It's I'm always eager to get a
- 0:37Speaker 2: new record out. Once we start rolling it out.
- 0:40Speaker 3: Yeah, can you can you tell us a bit more
- 0:42Speaker 3: about it musically and what you're going for this time around?
- 0:46Speaker 2: This time around, we just wanted to not have any agendas.
- 0:51Speaker 2: We just wanted to write music that we enjoy writing,
- 0:55Speaker 2: and I think it turned out that way, and it
- 0:58Speaker 2: I think because of that the record it is my
- 1:01Speaker 2: personal favorite that we've ever written.
- 1:04Speaker 3: And you've released the singles I'll Beginning to Sacrifice Not Tomorrow,
- 1:07Speaker 3: Chechnium and Landy God.
- 1:09Speaker 4: So overall of that good sony representation of what.
- 1:12Speaker 2: You expect, I would say. So, there's definitely elements, like
- 1:18Speaker 2: there's one more single and it has a different element
- 1:23Speaker 2: than any of those songs, and then then I think
- 1:26Speaker 2: you will have the full picture once that one is out.
- 1:29Speaker 3: Yeah, right, Like I've been lucky enough to have a
- 1:31Speaker 3: listen to the album myself. There's so much going on musically,
- 1:34Speaker 3: Like it'd make it hard to pull a bunch of
- 1:36Speaker 3: singles off there to represent the whole thing, wasn't it.
- 1:39Speaker 5: It would.
- 1:40Speaker 2: That's part of why we put twelve songs on this record,
- 1:42Speaker 2: because we wanted to do five singles, which I know
- 1:45Speaker 2: that upsets some people and they're bummed, and I get it.
- 1:48Speaker 2: So I was like, you know, what, if we're gonna
- 1:49Speaker 2: do five singles, we need to put twelve songs on
- 1:51Speaker 2: the record so people have seven songs to listen to
- 1:55Speaker 2: even after the five.
- 1:57Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:57Speaker 3: I've always been the same too, like, already know more
- 1:59Speaker 3: than half of the album should be released to singles.
- 2:01Speaker 4: Otherwise people think they've heard.
- 2:02Speaker 5: It all one they're not going to buy it all
- 2:03Speaker 5: that exactly.
- 2:07Speaker 3: You touched on this earlier on but the band has
- 2:09Speaker 3: been quite the sad Lonely God is the result of
- 2:11Speaker 3: us writing with no agendas, So can you elaborate on
- 2:14Speaker 3: that exactly what no agendas.
- 2:16Speaker 2: Is like on previous records, Like with The Path, we
- 2:20Speaker 2: were like, let's write music that would be played in
- 2:23Speaker 2: an arena. Let's write giant larger than life, Parkway drive
- 2:27Speaker 2: style stuff. And then on the hell we create because
- 2:32Speaker 2: there was critique on the path and we let it
- 2:34Speaker 2: really get to us when we shouldn't have. We wrote
- 2:37Speaker 2: the safest record. Like our agenda on this record is
- 2:40Speaker 2: write a record that doesn't make people mad, which is
- 2:43Speaker 2: also not a very good not a good way to
- 2:46Speaker 2: do things. And then so on this record we're like,
- 2:49Speaker 2: you know what, we just need to get back to
- 2:51Speaker 2: what we do best, and that's just right fit for
- 2:54Speaker 2: a King music. We don't need to worry about any
- 2:56Speaker 2: other agendas, just right the version of a fit for
- 3:01Speaker 2: a King album, whether the song is super metal, whether
- 3:05Speaker 2: it has a lot of singing, whether it's all breakdowns.
- 3:09Speaker 3: Speaking of wrotten music, mate, Like, this is your Ike
- 3:11Speaker 3: studio album. So do you think it gets easier or
- 3:14Speaker 3: hot of the more you write to come up with
- 3:16Speaker 3: freshly out of material.
- 3:18Speaker 2: I think lyrics get harder. I think writing music gets easier.
- 3:23Speaker 2: Lyrics are hard because you just you end up reusing
- 3:26Speaker 2: a bunch of the same words. So you're like, well,
- 3:28Speaker 2: I can't say that because I said that two albums ago.
- 3:31Speaker 2: Well no, I can't say that because and then you're like, wait,
- 3:34Speaker 2: that pattern's too close to this one, and that there's
- 3:36Speaker 2: just so much more stuff to like tiptoe around and
- 3:41Speaker 2: not copy or even your own music. So I think
- 3:44Speaker 2: lyrics over time get harder, but I think music gets
- 3:48Speaker 2: easier because they're just you mature as a musician and
- 3:51Speaker 2: you get better as a musician.
- 3:53Speaker 4: Yeah, that makes sense.
- 3:54Speaker 3: The album starts with begin to Sacrifice, which to my ease,
- 3:57Speaker 3: is one of the time of songs online the God
- 3:59Speaker 3: So was it chosen as the first track for that
- 4:01Speaker 3: reason to eat to ease people in.
- 4:04Speaker 2: It was to ease people in and to set up
- 4:06Speaker 2: like a story, like our goal wasn't on the first
- 4:09Speaker 2: one this record to like punch people in the face immediately.
- 4:13Speaker 2: It was to like set people up for like this
- 4:17Speaker 2: is going to be an album, like an album you
- 4:20Speaker 2: need to listen to. It's not just a bunch of songs.
- 4:24Speaker 2: It's like meant to be heard back to back to
- 4:27Speaker 2: back to back to get the full picture.
- 4:30Speaker 3: Yeah, that does make sense, actually, because this is the
- 4:32Speaker 3: first one of your albums I've sat and listened to
- 4:33Speaker 3: you from starting to finish, and I did it.
- 4:35Speaker 4: It felt like it was like I had a good
- 4:37Speaker 4: flow to it, like it felt like.
- 4:38Speaker 3: It was you were listening to it, the music wasn't
- 4:41Speaker 3: playing to you that sort of.
- 4:44Speaker 5: Yeah, that was a big goal.
- 4:45Speaker 2: And also to just have parts where you have breaks,
- 4:49Speaker 2: whether it's shelter between us, and then go straight into
- 4:52Speaker 2: some crazy heavy stuff almost like to give your ears
- 4:56Speaker 2: breaks when it needs a break and then go back
- 4:59Speaker 2: to the heavy when it needs to be heavy again.
- 5:01Speaker 4: Well, you did well with that brother.
- 5:04Speaker 3: With your Rotting Star before, but musically how does Landy
- 5:07Speaker 3: God differ to twenty twenty twos and how we create?
- 5:11Speaker 2: Just we were willing to take more chances and take
- 5:15Speaker 2: more risks on the Hell We Create, we were like,
- 5:17Speaker 2: no chances, no risks, don't upset people. Just write good
- 5:22Speaker 2: old metal core with breakdowns.
- 5:25Speaker 4: I'll bet you're still many shops set a few people
- 5:27Speaker 4: in this world.
- 5:27Speaker 2: But they'll never all be happy. I think that's another
- 5:31Speaker 2: thing after the Hell We Create, because we tried so
- 5:33Speaker 2: hard to not make people upset, and we still saw
- 5:36Speaker 2: people upset. So we're like, you know what, it doesn't even.
- 5:39Speaker 3: Matter, they're going to be upset anyway. Yeah, I know
- 5:43Speaker 3: you've got Landon Chows his guest on the song Technium,
- 5:46Speaker 3: So what did he bring to the sound and overall
- 5:48Speaker 3: feel of that song.
- 5:50Speaker 2: I mean, Landin's always been one of my biggest influences,
- 5:53Speaker 2: especially with like the creepy talking scream thing, and he
- 5:57Speaker 2: also does the pitch yell thing really well well, So
- 6:01Speaker 2: he kind of just has always influenced me with those things,
- 6:04Speaker 2: and especially on Technium because there's the creepy talking electronics stuff.
- 6:09Speaker 2: As soon as we were recording that, I was like,
- 6:11Speaker 2: we got we have to get Landed on this song.
- 6:13Speaker 2: He would sound so good.
- 6:16Speaker 4: And did so. Loosely based.
- 6:19Speaker 3: Your music combines elements of deathcore, metalcore, there's alternative metal,
- 6:22Speaker 3: electronics among other things in there. So in the creative process,
- 6:26Speaker 3: how difficult is it to get the balance of all
- 6:28Speaker 3: those things right.
- 6:31Speaker 2: It is hard because we try our best to not
- 6:33Speaker 2: make it sound like a bunch of random parts put together.
- 6:37Speaker 2: We want everything to sound like one band and one record.
- 6:41Speaker 2: So it is a big challenge to be like, this
- 6:43Speaker 2: part sounds like it is out of nowhere. But I
- 6:47Speaker 2: think that comes to like we when I said, like
- 6:50Speaker 2: we have a lot more experience now. I think the
- 6:54Speaker 2: longer we play music and the more we write, that
- 6:56Speaker 2: kind of stuff gets easier to work around.
- 6:59Speaker 3: Yeah, and that's a bit of an extension on that too,
- 7:02Speaker 3: like some of your breakdown and say massive shifts in
- 7:05Speaker 3: chiming champo in intensity, which is what most people refer
- 7:08Speaker 3: to as light and shade in music. So how difficult
- 7:11Speaker 3: is it to know when to start and where to
- 7:12Speaker 3: end when you're creating that sense?
- 7:16Speaker 2: I think when it's just a feeling of like, am
- 7:20Speaker 2: I getting tired of this part yet? Because if you're
- 7:23Speaker 2: getting tired of it, that means somebody got tired of
- 7:26Speaker 2: it a long time ago. Because I mean, ideally I
- 7:30Speaker 2: like my band more than other people like my band,
- 7:32Speaker 2: I should like my band more than everyone. So I
- 7:36Speaker 2: think when there's a part that I feel like it's dragging,
- 7:39Speaker 2: we shorten it even more because I'm like, if I
- 7:41Speaker 2: think it's dragging now, then that means it was dragging
- 7:44Speaker 2: probably a while ago.
- 7:46Speaker 4: Yeah, that makes sense. That makes sense indeed. Now, Yeah,
- 7:49Speaker 4: you're coming.
- 7:49Speaker 3: Back to Australia next January for run of shows with
- 7:51Speaker 3: the plot in News, So what the lights have you
- 7:53Speaker 3: got plans for fans over here on that show?
- 7:57Speaker 2: There's definitely gonna be a lot of new music as
- 7:59Speaker 2: a new record and the new songs are doing so well,
- 8:01Speaker 2: but we'll throw some hits from the previous records, because
- 8:05Speaker 2: even though there's songs we've played a lot and toured
- 8:08Speaker 2: a lot, we've only played Australia once in for in
- 8:13Speaker 2: the last like twelve years. So it's like we gotta
- 8:18Speaker 2: we gotta throw in some of the like old school
- 8:20Speaker 2: songs just to like, you know, give some long time
- 8:25Speaker 2: in a while a nice treat.
- 8:27Speaker 1: Yeah. Nice.
- 8:28Speaker 3: And I noticed two half of the shows are all ages,
- 8:30Speaker 3: which has become all too rare in the modern age show.
- 8:33Speaker 4: But on you guys for doing that well.
- 8:35Speaker 2: In America, it's like almost every show is all age.
- 8:38Speaker 2: So it's honestly like when we come to Australia, it's
- 8:40Speaker 2: weird that they're not. It's sometimes there's not all ages
- 8:44Speaker 2: in America, but I think there's just different laws with
- 8:47Speaker 2: like drinking and stuff over here, as far as like
- 8:50Speaker 2: not being able to have underage people if there's a bar,
- 8:54Speaker 2: stuff like that.
- 8:55Speaker 4: Yeah, I think that's right.
- 8:56Speaker 3: Yeah, it used to be all the time here and
- 8:58Speaker 3: then all the nulic of licensing lauwas came in and
- 9:01Speaker 3: I'm not even allowed to give my six year old
- 9:02Speaker 3: a beer anymore.
- 9:03Speaker 4: It's terrible.
- 9:04Speaker 2: I know's what's this world coming to? What happened to freedom?
- 9:09Speaker 4: You go, mate, I've got a new segment of introduced
- 9:11Speaker 4: called photo bombs.
- 9:12Speaker 3: So basically, I've trod through your social media before you've
- 9:15Speaker 3: had a chat, and I found a couple of photos
- 9:16Speaker 3: that wouldn't mind know a bit more about.
- 9:19Speaker 4: So firstly I got him I'll pit a rest of
- 9:24Speaker 4: on button. Personally, I've got this one made.
- 9:27Speaker 3: Like I said that, quite a lot of your photos
- 9:31Speaker 3: there have him jump a lot of this, mate, Like
- 9:33Speaker 3: he gets some pretty serious airtime.
- 9:35Speaker 4: Is he got sprints in his shoes or something?
- 9:38Speaker 2: He must have them, but his knees aren't liking it.
- 9:41Speaker 2: He says to wear knee braces now before our shows,
- 9:44Speaker 2: Like if we've been touring for a while, he's also
- 9:47Speaker 2: just we're getting older. Tuck is Tuck's crazy. He gets
- 9:52Speaker 2: my knees will just explode if I jump that.
- 9:55Speaker 3: Yeah, he's pretty much every shot of him he's jumping
- 9:57Speaker 3: on that, Like has he ever done it in a
- 9:59Speaker 3: venue with a small roof and he's forgotten that it
- 10:00Speaker 3: will is in that.
- 10:01Speaker 2: High He's definitely spun his bass on a stage that's
- 10:05Speaker 2: too small and hit me in the face. With it
- 10:07Speaker 2: a few times.
- 10:10Speaker 4: Nice.
- 10:12Speaker 3: Now the second one, I'm fair like, surely this must
- 10:15Speaker 3: be an optical illusion, mate, because I can't actually see
- 10:17Speaker 3: strap holding this guitar so it doesn't fly into crowding.
- 10:22Speaker 2: Yeah, there's he so he like drills his strap into
- 10:26Speaker 2: the guitar. It's like there's a giant screw. But yeah,
- 10:31Speaker 2: he takes it very seriously, and he's got like a
- 10:34Speaker 2: metal clip instead of a plastic one. He's he's decked out.
- 10:38Speaker 2: But yeah, you can't even see the.
- 10:40Speaker 4: Strap on that right.
- 10:43Speaker 2: Never Actually he just throws there with so much speed
- 10:46Speaker 2: that it's like a boomerang. You know that's appropriate. A
- 10:48Speaker 2: boomerang and an Australian interview.
- 10:51Speaker 4: Fantastic.
- 10:53Speaker 3: Alright, right, I will let you go say to speak
- 10:55Speaker 3: the next person, mate, but thanks very much for your
- 10:56Speaker 3: time lighting me. God, he's out August first and refers
- 10:59Speaker 3: to listen. It's pretty damn good mepisode that everyone, thank.
- 11:03Speaker 5: You, said, ray by myself.
- 11:18Speaker 6: No, I got up that pray bo Yeah, I got
- 11:21Speaker 6: up mess right all the wall just up my laughing.
- 11:26Speaker 5: Good five right a second? Like a time what's their
- 11:31Speaker 5: laughs exact?
- 11:32Speaker 6: When one?
- 11:33Speaker 7: Fine? I got days I got down to sow.
- 11:37Speaker 1: Why got out of time? What's another funny? I'll just
- 11:41Speaker 1: buy all fes you've got up out right.
- 11:50Speaker 6: I got a got sho, so I go right off
- 11:54Speaker 6: last love find out, I don't go surse.
