- 0:00okay so francis do you remember the other day i was telling you about my i was not really an
- 0:21invention idea but an idea that i had that i thought would make my life better uh which is so
- 0:26like in my youtube music i have multiple playlists like i have one for working out but then have my
- 0:31liked music and um i'll like just shuffle play them and um then when i but then if i want to
- 0:41listen to a different list that shuffled playlist goes away right so then i end up like listening to
- 0:47the same songs over and over again because they keep coming up uh so i was thinking there should
- 0:52be a way to like pause one playlist and go to another playlist well today i went to the gym
- 0:57opened up my phone went to my working out playlist there was a resume button for my playlist
- 1:04they must have manifested it i did i manifested it they had to have heard what we were talking
- 1:11about francis they probably stole your idea i know but you know what i'm okay they can have that
- 1:15that one's on me no it's not okay this has to stop the same thing happened to me i don't know
- 1:19know this i invented itunes what yeah i had the idea first i was gonna call it you tunes
- 1:25because you're you're not as selfish as apple is right exactly it was for everyone else
- 1:32itunes you tune seems sort of accusatory though like these are your tunes but in the happiest way
- 1:39i did it because i used to be a little karaoke singer and back in the day when you bought cds
- 1:42you couldn't you you bought a whole cd for one song you wanted and i was like no i wish there
- 1:48was a way you could just buy the ones you wanted oh that'd be a great idea youtunes and i sat on it
- 1:54and i dreamed on it and then one day they had itunes yeah man apple if you're listening and
- 2:01we know you are you are tim cook if you're out there listening he's a subscriber yeah friend
- 2:07of the pod pay francis what you owe him yeah hit me with the rears bro yeah yeah just oh yeah gross
- 2:15just a percentage of gross
- 2:17I'm struggling out here
- 2:18and interest on the amount of money
- 2:22that he lost because he wasn't paid
- 2:24and pay my lawyers
- 2:25I think I invented rage rooms
- 2:27ooh that's a good one to invent
- 2:30yeah
- 2:30because they weren't a thing in the 2000s
- 2:33right and I was just like
- 2:35we should go get a whole bunch of
- 2:37trash from Goodwill
- 2:38and have people pay to hit it
- 2:41with bats
- 2:42I invented rage rooms but
- 2:45But obviously whoever I told stole this idea and now they exist.
- 2:49You can still do it.
- 2:51You just call it something else.
- 2:54I don't know.
- 2:54I mean, I think there are rage rooms that are called multiple different things.
- 2:58I think that's the concept really that's been stolen.
- 3:02Have you been to a rage room?
- 3:03Yeah.
- 3:04Did you love it?
- 3:05Did you get your rage out?
- 3:07Yeah.
- 3:08It turns out I do this when I hit things with a bat.
- 3:10Every time I hit things with a bat.
- 3:11Yeah.
- 3:12Yeah.
- 3:12that doesn't sound like rage to me that sounds like joy yeah i was there with my uh few of my
- 3:26girlfriends and they were like really like rageful and that was like my turn and it was
- 3:33like and i was like i'm gonna show them yeah
- 3:34someday we're gonna have to make a like a sound effect cd of all of your
- 3:41i do you know other one i do don't steal that idea yeah yeah yeah i do that a lot
- 3:48hi yeah yeah like miss piggy well i guess does she say hi yeah yeah an everyday speech
- 3:57yeah yeah she's like when she gets angry she hi yeah yeah oh well i'm in good company then
- 4:03welcome to friends like us podcast where friends talk about stuff i'm jenna with me as always is
- 4:12francis and we have a very special guest our friend chrissy so happy to be here i am a
- 4:19dedicated listener i'm a sizzler if you uh if you will uh friend of the pod happy to be here
- 4:27oh well this is so exciting and the inventor of rage room yeah and she invented rage rooms
- 4:31mm-hmm tm yeah would you have called it something else i probably would have just called it a smash
- 4:38room oh that's good yeah that's good too yeah yeah because you'd think there was drinking in
- 4:44there or or or it's okay i get where you're going now joe yeah pull your head out of the gutter joe
- 4:52Your whole head's there.
- 4:55I have a dirty mind.
- 4:57All right.
- 4:59Well, as regular sizzlers would know,
- 5:04we get secret words from Joe at the beginning of our episode to say
- 5:08and sneak into conversation.
- 5:12And you can go to friendslikeuspod.com.
- 5:15There is a running total of the points.
- 5:19Francis is winning.
- 5:20Ooh.
- 5:21Oh, my God.
- 5:22Yes.
- 5:23No rage here.
- 5:25Just hi-yah.
- 5:26Hi-yah.
- 5:27Nyah!
- 5:29But we will say these words during the episode, and we will try and guess each other's words,
- 5:34and we all three have one.
- 5:37It's very exciting.
- 5:39Now here's Joe with the words.
- 5:42Jenna's secret word is decapitated.
- 5:46Francis's secret word is sovereign.
- 5:48Chrissy's secret word is cumulative.
- 5:53Back to the pod.
- 5:56First segment time.
- 5:59You know what it is.
- 6:00We all know what it is.
- 6:01Invention of the week.
- 6:06Inventions.
- 6:10Ooh-wee.
- 6:12I'm so excited.
- 6:13I can't wait.
- 6:14This is a real tough one because I dreamed up two today.
- 6:17Whoa.
- 6:18And I was like, oh, which one do I tell?
- 6:20Yeah.
- 6:24Okay, I've got it.
- 6:25Okay.
- 6:26The one I'm going to talk about, you know how there's wrestling?
- 6:31I do know how there's wrestling.
- 6:32There's two different kinds of wrestling.
- 6:34What kind of wrestling are you referring to?
- 6:36Are you referring to, because actually when I was coming in, I was wondering, there's WWF and there's WWE, right?
- 6:42What's the E?
- 6:42There's WWE.
- 6:43What's that?
- 6:44Entertainment, because they can't call it a federation because it's not real.
- 6:48so there's no wwf anymore it's been turned into the wwe okay so i thought that was because of the
- 6:55world wildlife fund that they had to change that that could be a secondary reason oh but i like
- 7:00your reason better i like that better yeah because it's not a real sport yeah oh that's interesting
- 7:07um so they have to call it entertainment there's the other kind where the guys are like
- 7:11where it's like the high school kids do.
- 7:15Oh, okay.
- 7:15Nope, not talking about that.
- 7:17Not talking about that.
- 7:18And a third kind, wrestling.
- 7:20Yeah, and there's wrestling.
- 7:22Which is a gator.
- 7:23Yep, that's some good old-fashioned gator fun.
- 7:25I'm learning so much about wrestling.
- 7:28Oh, well, that's good, I think, for your invention.
- 7:30Not really.
- 7:30It has nothing to do with wrestling.
- 7:32So why did you start this off with,
- 7:34you know how there's wrestling?
- 7:36You'll understand.
- 7:37Okay.
- 7:37It is a belt you wear that is large,
- 7:41So that's what I was thinking, like the wrestling belts?
- 7:45Yeah.
- 7:45Not that big, but I want you to know it's a little bit big.
- 7:49Like a cowboy belt?
- 7:51Maybe.
- 7:51Okay.
- 7:52Like a rodeo winner's belt?
- 7:54Yeah.
- 7:54Keep your mind open.
- 7:55Okay.
- 7:56It's open.
- 7:57Because it could be that.
- 7:58It contains a pair of robotic hands.
- 8:03I know you mean these hands, but this is different.
- 8:05Well, they're winners every time.
- 8:07I know.
- 8:07I know.
- 8:08This is not as big as the miser hands.
- 8:09and they have little light gloves on
- 8:12so they can be seen
- 8:13and what they do is they do sign language
- 8:16so if you're out
- 8:18and you need to talk sign language
- 8:19you can, on your phone
- 8:22you just type what needs to be said
- 8:23and it's a Bluetooth app
- 8:24and then the belt opens
- 8:26and the hands come out and do the sign language
- 8:29laughter
- 8:31laughter
- 8:32laughter
- 8:34so it's just staring crotch level
- 8:37That's what I was going to say.
- 8:39Could we pivot and have it be a necklace?
- 8:42No, they come up.
- 8:43Oh, they rise.
- 8:44They come up and then they go back in.
- 8:46So it's not just down by your junk.
- 8:49I was also going to say, this would instantly become something else.
- 8:53People would figure out what certain signs were and just constantly be doing those.
- 8:58No.
- 8:59If it's near their crotch.
- 9:00It comes up.
- 9:01And if it ever doesn't work, you could stand on a stool.
- 9:05And then your face is in someone's crotch.
- 9:07But so are the hands.
- 9:09Anyway, it does more than just that, too, because you can program it to, like, talk to the hand.
- 9:15So it could be a sassy lady from the 90s if you wanted it.
- 9:19The mid-90s.
- 9:21Or...
- 9:21Oh, now you're selling me.
- 9:23Yeah, and it can carry grocery bags.
- 9:26Okay, so they're just an extra set of hands that can also do sign language.
- 9:30But they can't cut your hair.
- 9:31No, that's...
- 9:32No hair cutting.
- 9:33But we don't want to cross into miser hands territory.
- 9:35Right.
- 9:35We've got to buy it.
- 9:36That's sold separately.
- 9:37um okay you said they're wearing white gloves they flip people off you yes we don't censor our guests
- 9:46um so here's okay if you're typing something that you want to say so you already have to type
- 9:56it doesn't like auto translate what you're doing it could oh well that would be better
- 10:02I was going to say, because otherwise, why couldn't you just show the deaf person what you've typed?
- 10:07What if you get a text while you're looking at your phone and it's not for them?
- 10:13So if there's a text that you don't want the people to see, luckily you have this belt.
- 10:23Yeah, well, because the belt could be a beautiful, like designer belt.
- 10:29I'm going to pitch it's a necklace again.
- 10:32because it could hear you
- 10:35if it was close to your mouth,
- 10:38closer to your mouth,
- 10:39as opposed to you talking to your crotch.
- 10:43But then they'd be little tiny hands, right?
- 10:46Well, they could be the size of your face.
- 10:48People wear chunky statement jewelry.
- 10:50Have you not seen Prue Leith?
- 10:52Oh, yes, I have.
- 10:54Wait, seen what?
- 10:55From Great British Baking Show?
- 10:57Oh, no.
- 10:58She wears chunky statement jewelry.
- 11:00Well, we have more than one model.
- 11:02And we have a hat.
- 11:03Oh, that's nice of us.
- 11:05Oh, great.
- 11:05Well, because it could be...
- 11:07It would look like one of those beer can hats.
- 11:10Yes!
- 11:11With two hands just gripping your head all the time, like a crown of hands.
- 11:15And if you didn't like what someone was saying, you could push a button and the hands could come out and cover your ears.
- 11:20Just a resplendent head crown of ears.
- 11:25So it's like if you want to be in denial, like, no, no, no, no, no, no.
- 11:30It could accuse.
- 11:32okay so point you can point at people you're gonna go use multiple people at once
- 11:38you can use up to four yes your own hands
- 11:41it sounds like we love it
- 11:46i want to think of i want to think of other uses for these extra hands could they hold stuff yeah
- 11:56so if you if you need to work on your car it can hold a wrench or a flashlight
- 12:01Oh, so they can be helping hands as well.
- 12:03Yeah.
- 12:04That's not the name, though.
- 12:05Okay.
- 12:06Good.
- 12:07Because I think that's taken.
- 12:08Yeah.
- 12:09It's like a WWF.
- 12:11Mm-hmm.
- 12:12Yeah.
- 12:15How big is this going to have to be?
- 12:17Because if you've got, like, arms, it's got to have folds and there's hands.
- 12:21Mm-hmm.
- 12:23How big?
- 12:25Yeah.
- 12:26Well, as small as possible.
- 12:29but large enough to read.
- 12:33The size of a salad plate?
- 12:36But I mean, I'm thinking depth too.
- 12:39It's going to be kind of...
- 12:40Yes.
- 12:42Thank you.
- 12:44They come out from the belt though
- 12:46so they're probably retractable.
- 12:48Yeah, they're retractable.
- 12:49I know, but it would have to be
- 12:50when they're not out.
- 12:51When they're resting
- 12:53they could be holding each other's hands.
- 12:55Oh, that would be so sweet.
- 12:56Yeah, proprietary folding technology.
- 12:58they fold into a handle
- 13:01it's proprietary
- 13:03it hasn't been invented yet
- 13:05yes
- 13:05okay so you're inventing this folding technology
- 13:10and then the first thing you're using it for
- 13:12are these hands
- 13:14that could maybe be
- 13:16on a necklace or maybe
- 13:18be on a hat
- 13:19and definitely be on a belt
- 13:21okay
- 13:22will this impact the livelihoods
- 13:26of
- 13:27interpreters who are normally brought in to do this kind of work Are you stealing jobs Oh my goodness
- 13:39No.
- 13:40They're allowed to own them, too.
- 13:44But why would somebody pay them?
- 13:47They could have two conversations at once, then.
- 13:50Think about it.
- 13:51They could be doing ASL,
- 13:53and the hands could be doing, like, British language.
- 13:57I just created a job.
- 13:59It is different.
- 13:59Yeah.
- 14:01So it's translating the sign language?
- 14:05Yes.
- 14:06Yes.
- 14:07It has a chip that does that.
- 14:08So before every presentation, the interpreter has to go, Americans, up here.
- 14:13Brits, down here.
- 14:16See?
- 14:17We're bridging cultures.
- 14:19Brits are going to be at crotch level.
- 14:21Yep.
- 14:24Again, they come up.
- 14:26Okay.
- 14:27It's on an angled hinge.
- 14:29Here, let me do a demonstration.
- 14:31Boop.
- 14:34This demonstration is great podcasting.
- 14:37People are imagining it at home.
- 14:39For those at home, Francis just basically put his hands in front of himself and went, boop.
- 14:46That's really all that was.
- 14:48Technology's hard to explain.
- 14:50They go, hi-ya.
- 14:54Mwah.
- 14:54I think this is a great idea
- 15:00I think you're gonna get more use out of it
- 15:04with like carrying groceries and things
- 15:06or doing other functional things
- 15:08the number of times
- 15:09that people will use it for sign language
- 15:11I think it's interesting that that was your first
- 15:14thought
- 15:15well okay
- 15:18does this invention have a name?
- 15:19I was thinking like
- 15:20getting handsy
- 15:23handsy. I was literally thinking that
- 15:25exact same thing. That's it, though.
- 15:28Get handsy.
- 15:29Hands on. Or my hands are down here.
- 15:31Yeah, I was thinking that, too.
- 15:33My hands are down here. I was thinking,
- 15:34oh, we both thought.
- 15:36What were you thinking?
- 15:38Joe, think of something with me.
- 15:43Hands
- 15:44of
- 15:45North America.
- 15:48Perfect.
- 15:49We're in perfect harmony. So organic.
- 15:51Told you I would sing.
- 15:52All right.
- 15:54Well, we've got three killer names.
- 15:58You said they're wearing white gloves?
- 16:00Yeah.
- 16:02Just because I had a dream about Disneyland last night.
- 16:06Probably why.
- 16:07Gorgeous.
- 16:10Yeah.
- 16:11And you have to use sign language a lot at Disneyland?
- 16:14Nope.
- 16:14It wasn't my dream.
- 16:15I just independently dreamed of Disneyland.
- 16:16And then I pictured the gloves from Mickey Mouse when I was thinking of this invention.
- 16:21Okay.
- 16:22No big deal.
- 16:22Tim Cook, don't you touch this.
- 16:25Yeah, you little asshole.
- 16:27You've taken enough from him already.
- 16:28Just leave him be.
- 16:30Leave him alone.
- 16:31Oh, so much to Francis.
- 16:33Yeah.
- 16:34I'll program these hands to choke.
- 16:37That would be a danger.
- 16:39I know.
- 16:40Or possibly a selling point to people who are into that kink.
- 16:43There's a disclaimer.
- 16:45I can't be held responsible for what the Sizzlers do.
- 16:49It's true.
- 16:50Yep.
- 16:51Sizzlers, you're your own people.
- 16:52We appreciate that about you.
- 16:55This is going to fall into the category of I would invest because I want to see people using it.
- 17:02Let's leave it at that.
- 17:04It's enthusiasm.
- 17:05I'd love to see the prototype you're going to bring to the sharks.
- 17:09Yeah.
- 17:10That's what I want to see.
- 17:11They won't let me too close to them because they'd be worried about the choking.
- 17:15Oh, right.
- 17:16A lot of people go on that show to hurt them.
- 17:20As we all know.
- 17:21Famously.
- 17:22Those episodes have been scrubbed.
- 17:24They're secret shark hunters.
- 17:27Yeah.
- 17:28Yeah.
- 17:29Okay.
- 17:31Yeah.
- 17:35All right.
- 17:36Well, any final thoughts?
- 17:37I said it all.
- 17:44Getting handsy.
- 17:45A.K.A.
- 17:46My hands are down here.
- 17:47A.K.A.
- 17:48Hands Across America.
- 17:52Well, go to friendslikeuspod.com to purchase one of these.
- 17:58It'll be up for sale, I'm sure, by the time this episode drops.
- 18:02That proprietary folding technology, I'm assuming you've invented it already.
- 18:05I just, yeah, got it.
- 18:07Got it?
- 18:07Cool, it's done.
- 18:09Also, go to social medias, FluPod Official,
- 18:14and check out the drawings, the initial prototypes.
- 18:18That will be available by the time you hear this.
- 18:22okay i guess that wraps up the uh invention of the week okay let's time for our next segment
- 18:31uncle teeks street display
- 18:34hello and welcome to uncle teeks street display
- 18:41uncle uncle teeks oh i get it like antiques yeah yeah that was uh
- 18:51Uncle Teeks.
- 18:52Yep.
- 18:53Francis, do you want to explain how this segment works?
- 18:56Exactly as it sounds.
- 18:58Basically, we come up with fun heirlooms or like, the word devices in my head, but I just
- 19:07needed to say it, get it out.
- 19:08Heirlooms and decor and things from home or whatever that we don't really know what they
- 19:13are, their history, and we're trying to see if they're worth anything.
- 19:15So we bring it to Uncle Teeks street display.
- 19:19play and we learn their history and their value okay all right yeah yeah so so i think you have
- 19:32to go first okay perfect that's wonderful because i'm ready oh good you seem ready
- 19:39worked out perfectly okay um hi hi oh god i'm so nervous so nervous to be here no don't no don't
- 19:51be nervous uh it's been a dream of mine to meet to meet you guys well we're here to examine your
- 19:59goods thank you thank you just show us your goods oh gosh thank you guys well as you probably don't
- 20:07know because you don't know me my grandfather was recently murdered i know i know violently
- 20:16and i inherited his home and they cleaned everything out before we could get there oh
- 20:21my heart's just broken but i found one thing in the attic i just don't know what it is
- 20:27well is it evidence i don't think so i i found it and i'm hoping that it's worth a lot because
- 20:36boy, I just
- 20:37need the money.
- 20:40Well, show us,
- 20:42young man. Reveal the goods.
- 20:44I'm taking it out of its velvet cloth.
- 20:48It is
- 20:50shaped like
- 20:52a bowl.
- 20:55Hmm.
- 20:56Is it a bowl?
- 20:58I'm not the expert. I don't know.
- 21:00What are these markings around the edge?
- 21:02They're ancient
- 21:04hieroglyphs from the
- 21:061960s.
- 21:10I think.
- 21:13The 60s, known
- 21:14for their ancient hieroglyphs.
- 21:16Yes, here. Would you like to hold it?
- 21:18Please be very careful. It's all I have of my grandpapa.
- 21:20Yes. Oh, I see.
- 21:23I declare
- 21:24this to be
- 21:25a ming bowl.
- 21:30Ming.
- 21:32Ming.
- 21:33Yes. Oh, wow.
- 21:35wow my instincts were so right when i said of the 1960s ming dynasty oh my god and now i will
- 21:44hand it over to my colleague who is a ming expert oh this is clearly ming you can tell by the
- 21:53hieroglyphs here on the edges do you see uh do you see this one uh this one uh here that's uh
- 22:03just, it's got
- 22:06nine little
- 22:09cubes.
- 22:10Oh, the cubes.
- 22:12That was the hieroglyphic
- 22:14representation
- 22:15of the Brady Bunch.
- 22:18Which the Ming
- 22:20Dynasty was extremely
- 22:22I don't want to say
- 22:24obsessed with.
- 22:25I would say obsessed.
- 22:29No fighting, you guys.
- 22:31Deborah, no, Deborah,
- 22:32she keeps me honest.
- 22:33they were obsessed i didn't want to put too much on them uh and uh yes uh deborah why don't you
- 22:40explain this other hieroglyph oh yes well that was uh one you would also often see on pyrex bowls
- 22:50which are very similar to a mean bowl but a mean bowl is the real article and so they copied the
- 22:58Pyrex as a way of getting
- 23:01back at the
- 23:03Pyrex Empire.
- 23:05The Ming Empire
- 23:07and the Pyrex Empire
- 23:08famously hated each other.
- 23:11Just feuding clans.
- 23:14It's so interesting. I mean, I've heard
- 23:15of Ming, but I've never heard of Pyrex.
- 23:18Pyrex?
- 23:19Pyrex. Oh, so much to learn.
- 23:21Equally as ancient as the Ming
- 23:23Empire. Made of delicious
- 23:25lead.
- 23:26This must be worth
- 23:28millions?
- 23:33Millions
- 23:34of
- 23:36casseroles.
- 23:40Yes.
- 23:41Millions of the joy
- 23:43you'll bring from eating
- 23:45out of this bowl.
- 23:47Yep.
- 23:48It's worth no money?
- 23:50Well, it's not worth
- 23:53nothing.
- 23:55I would say
- 23:56in today's dollars
- 23:58back
- 24:00in the ancient 1960s
- 24:03it was worth
- 24:04about $4.10
- 24:08I believe.
- 24:09He was rich. He was very rich.
- 24:12And in today's dollars
- 24:13that is
- 24:15about $4.11.
- 24:21Okay.
- 24:24But it's a very interesting find
- 24:26It's been a while since we've seen one of these bowls.
- 24:29A brilliant piece.
- 24:30Okay, I don't care about that.
- 24:32But at least you have something to remember your grandfather by.
- 24:37Shh!
- 24:40Oh no!
- 24:41Oh no!
- 24:41Sir, my other hands could have held that.
- 24:44I'm leaving.
- 24:51Sorry.
- 24:52I have
- 24:54Hi, I was wondering if I talked to the appraisers
- 24:58Yes
- 24:59We love that
- 25:01Oh good
- 25:03This
- 25:05This
- 25:07It's
- 25:09As you can see it's rather large
- 25:12And it's kind of wooden
- 25:14It's only kind of wooden
- 25:16Just a little bit wooden
- 25:18A wonk of wood
- 25:20perceptibly wooden uh but on the inside you'll see it's different material
- 25:26sounds like a glonken duben i don't know i don't know yet oh i was i was wondering if it was going
- 25:34to be a glonken duben uh my my grandfather was he was german and um he used to love and he he had
- 25:45this hanging in his backyard and he loved to bird watch and this was hanging in a tree in his
- 25:51backyard and it was actually the last thing that he saw before he was decapitated
- 26:02oh my his robot hands oh no i know it was a tragic accident but i was aside from the sentimental
- 26:10value obviously as being the last thing i can look at it and it's the last thing that my
- 26:14grandfather looked at.
- 26:16I was wondering if it had
- 26:18any kind of
- 26:19value to the outside world.
- 26:23Well, you mentioned
- 26:24an inside material. Would love to see it.
- 26:26Oh, here. Oh, here. I can open it up.
- 26:34It's the mother of pearl
- 26:36inlay.
- 26:37Oh.
- 26:40It's so delightful. I've never seen
- 26:42anything so delightful in ever my days wood and mother of pearl my my gosh it is a glonken doobin
- 26:51yes oh thank god i was hesitant before i should trust myself more you should trust your gut
- 26:59maury of course i will thank you got trusted oh close it i i can focus a real glonkingloobin The glonkingloobin has an opalescent inlay
- 27:16and not the mother of pearl we see here.
- 27:20This is the real deal.
- 27:22Yes, top of the grandpa.
- 27:24So if this is a real glonkingloobin,
- 27:28then it must be worth a fortune.
- 27:30Well, we haven't even gotten to what it does.
- 27:33Yeah, I was going to say, I'm not even sure.
- 27:35I only know of them from lore.
- 27:37Can you explain what it is?
- 27:40Yes.
- 27:41It famously, as you said, hangs upon a patio.
- 27:47A well-known patio hanger.
- 27:49Yes.
- 27:50And at golden hour, it opens and Mother of Pearl catches the sun.
- 28:00Delectably.
- 28:00Yes, beautifully, deliciously.
- 28:03And it blinds the birds.
- 28:06And they fall out of the sky.
- 28:08Yes.
- 28:08And then you can observe them up close.
- 28:11Yes.
- 28:11Oh, well, now I understand why Grandfather had it.
- 28:14Yes.
- 28:15Clonken-Dubin.
- 28:16Why he was so distracted that he didn't notice his hands.
- 28:22I don't have my appraisal book.
- 28:25Yeah, Anna.
- 28:26We're going to have to do this one off the cuff, Maury.
- 28:29Yes.
- 28:30Let's do some air finger marks.
- 28:33Yes.
- 28:33Calculation.
- 28:34Like a beautiful mind up in here.
- 28:36I got it.
- 28:37Very good.
- 28:38This glonkendubin is worth 15 other glonkendubins.
- 28:45What?
- 28:46A compounding glonkendubin?
- 28:48Yes.
- 28:48You're very lucky.
- 28:49Glonkendubin can only be traded for a larger glonkendubin.
- 28:54That's perfect.
- 28:56Finally, I can send little Jimmy to school.
- 28:58But don't open it in front of his eyes.
- 29:00Oh, I won't.
- 29:01No, I don't want him to fall out of the sky.
- 29:03To be observed.
- 29:04Yeah.
- 29:05Well, thank you.
- 29:06Thank you for bringing this piece of history to us.
- 29:10No, thank you.
- 29:11This is better news than I even could have imagined.
- 29:14Thank you so much.
- 29:16Bye.
- 29:17And then the little rainbow goes,
- 29:18with what it's worth, like it does on Antiques Roadshow.
- 29:2215 clunk and doobits.
- 29:2415 clunk and doobits.
- 29:25I have something
- 29:31Oh yes
- 29:32Mori
- 29:33We have another
- 29:34We have another
- 29:36Thing to appraise
- 29:37Wonderful
- 29:39Oh I'm still Mori
- 29:40You can be someone else
- 29:45Sorry no I get
- 29:46Excited I get
- 29:47Southern
- 29:48Welcome
- 29:50Don't we all
- 29:51Don't we all
- 29:53Francis
- 29:54this was passed down to me
- 30:00for my mother
- 30:01and my mother's mother
- 30:04we usually only hear from
- 30:07grandfathers
- 30:08this is new territory for us
- 30:10grandmothers
- 30:11we'll see if our expertise
- 30:13will transfer
- 30:15it is
- 30:17a box with two sides
- 30:19that have buttons
- 30:21and you can expand
- 30:23and contract.
- 30:27Oh.
- 30:29And it makes a sound.
- 30:30I don't know what on earth it is.
- 30:33I can actually, I know what this is.
- 30:36I knew you would.
- 30:38This is, and this is, these are,
- 30:40there's very few of these still in circulation.
- 30:43This is an old-timey hurricane alert system.
- 30:49Oh, of course.
- 30:51Yes, this would be the town crier would take one of these and go into the town square and press it together and then pull it apart and then press it together and then pull it apart.
- 31:03And that would let everyone know quick to the to the hurricane shelters.
- 31:09These saved a lot of lives back in the day.
- 31:12That explains why the noise it makes is so shrill and irksome.
- 31:16Yes, yes.
- 31:17I mean, it had to be.
- 31:18and it's actually
- 31:20rare to have one in the Americas
- 31:23because I believe, where were these originated from?
- 31:27Poland
- 31:27but
- 31:28my mother's mother
- 31:31was old Poland
- 31:33before the war
- 31:35before they were sovereign
- 31:37like 1960s Poland
- 31:39ancient
- 31:40the time of bowls
- 31:43yep
- 31:44I've heard of this time of bowls
- 31:47to think I have something sitting on my dresser
- 31:51that's from the time of Poles in Poland.
- 31:55Your mother must have loved you.
- 31:58And her mother's mother must have loved her.
- 32:02There's a lot of love in this.
- 32:03And famously, we are descended of town criers.
- 32:09I knew that.
- 32:10I thought you had that glint in your eye.
- 32:12She's got the permanent stain like a Yorkie.
- 32:17Near the eyes.
- 32:18From all the crying?
- 32:19Yes, yes.
- 32:19I mean, I say that with love.
- 32:21The tears.
- 32:22Yes.
- 32:23Yes, that's what a town crier is.
- 32:25Not one who cries out, but one who is sad.
- 32:34Oh, I do be dizzy.
- 32:36Our family was sad and wanted everyone to know things.
- 32:40So we were the town crying criers.
- 32:42You were the perfect crier, some might say.
- 32:45well
- 32:47Maury
- 32:48what would you
- 32:50value this
- 32:51hmm
- 32:52how could one
- 32:53even begin
- 32:54gun to my head
- 32:56I would say
- 32:57that's how we do it
- 32:59on Uncle Cheeks
- 32:59funny you should mention that
- 33:00because I brought
- 33:01my grandpa's gun
- 33:02oh good
- 33:03something good
- 33:04from my grandfather
- 33:04yes
- 33:05I can't look
- 33:05I can't look at this
- 33:07while I pray
- 33:08so I'm getting excited again
- 33:09um
- 33:11you know I've been doing this
- 33:13a long time
- 33:13I do know that
- 33:14I'm just gonna say it
- 33:16Say it, Maury
- 33:17Eight Glonkendubins
- 33:19So less than a Glonkendubin
- 33:24Well
- 33:24But more than a bowl
- 33:26We can't blind you
- 33:27Unless you can open that up and it's Mother of Pearl inside
- 33:31A little hurricane
- 33:36It contains its own hurricane
- 33:39Well now it's worth nothing
- 33:42Oh no, but
- 33:43Oh no, the hurricane's escaped
- 33:46No
- 33:47It's rigging happened
- 33:48Oh no
- 33:49I'm inconsolable
- 33:54The hurricane is destroying everything in its path
- 33:58This might be the final
- 34:00Our last episode of
- 34:02Uncle Teak's
- 34:04Street Display
- 34:05Alright, well I think we learned a lot
- 34:12In that segment
- 34:13You think there's really a glonkin doobin?
- 34:16I do.
- 34:17I know there is.
- 34:18Yeah.
- 34:19Because I want it enough.
- 34:20My heart is pure.
- 34:21I think that's how things come into existence, too.
- 34:23Yeah.
- 34:24That and Apple iTunes listens.
- 34:26Yes.
- 34:27I was having a good time.
- 34:29Sorry.
- 34:30Sorry.
- 34:32But you need to keep it fresh in your mind.
- 34:35You need to keep those wounds open and fresh.
- 34:38Never heal.
- 34:39Don't move on.
- 34:40Right.
- 34:40Yeah.
- 34:40Yeah, because you need to learn from this, and you need that vengeance to fuel you.
- 34:46Yeah.
- 34:46Well, don't worry.
- 34:47I've got that in space.
- 34:49Yeah.
- 34:50Yeah.
- 34:51I have a journal that says, Journal of Perceived Slights.
- 34:53It was a gift.
- 34:55And it's full.
- 34:58I'm sure it's full.
- 34:59I don't know.
- 34:59Maybe.
- 35:00When I die, do you want it?
- 35:01Yes.
- 35:02Yeah.
- 35:03Absolutely.
- 35:04If you don't give it to me, it's going in my journal of Perceived Slights.
- 35:06Okay, okay.
- 35:07now that we're all multiple
- 35:11Glock and Dubin's richer
- 35:13um
- 35:14it's time
- 35:16is your word Glock and Dubin?
- 35:19I already wrote that down
- 35:21it is Glock and Dubin
- 35:22alright it's time for our
- 35:25final segment
- 35:26the big question
- 35:30whoa
- 35:31the question is very big
- 35:35I have one.
- 35:37Great.
- 35:38Unless you do.
- 35:39No, I just wanted to give you the opportunity.
- 35:42Thank you.
- 35:42I want to be asked.
- 35:44Yeah.
- 35:44Sorry, Phil.
- 35:45Yeah.
- 35:47My weird question is, if you have to start a socially unacceptable hobby that would have
- 36:00you like be a pariah if people knew what you were doing but you have to do it what socially
- 36:06unacceptable hobby are you coming up with there's so many options
- 36:11i don't know if this is socially unacceptable and i mean it is social like
- 36:21i would go through people's things when they weren't in the room
- 36:27that is socially unacceptable
- 36:30if I could clear that up for you
- 36:31I wasn't worried about that being
- 36:34question
- 36:35question about the rules of this scenario
- 36:38are we assuming that
- 36:41people know that Jenna's doing that
- 36:43or that she always gets found out
- 36:47here's what I would say to that
- 36:48yes because you have to be able to defend it
- 36:51that's an angle that I'm going to put on this
- 36:53you need to like come up with
- 36:55a socially unacceptable hobby
- 36:57and how you would defend doing it.
- 37:00Okay.
- 37:01All right.
- 37:02Yeah, I would go through people's things.
- 37:04I'm thinking like specifically like purses.
- 37:10Because then you could be like,
- 37:11I'm thinking like you're out and about with somebody.
- 37:13They go to the bathroom like at a restaurant or something.
- 37:15You go through their purse.
- 37:19But then they catch you.
- 37:20Yeah.
- 37:20What do you say?
- 37:24No, I would say,
- 37:27like, oh,
- 37:29let's role play this.
- 37:32Okay, I'm
- 37:33elbow deep in your purse right now.
- 37:36That's a big purse.
- 37:39Linda?
- 37:40Oh, what are you doing?
- 37:43I'm...
- 37:45You got me.
- 37:46I'm going through your purse.
- 37:47I trusted you. I left it here.
- 37:49Linda.
- 37:51Look, I
- 37:52go through people's purses when they're not around.
- 37:56it's something that i do but here's this here's the thing i have a good reason
- 38:01hold on brenda get in here she's going through my stuff oh my god she's about to justify it what
- 38:07i'm sorry elbow deep in that mother and oh i didn't even show you my other arm it's got your
- 38:15purse brenda my handbag so i'm sorry but listen here's the thing i know what it's like to have
- 38:26have a purse and I know how things often get lost in purses, right? You both know that, right? And
- 38:32sometimes important things get lost in there. Things that you don't want to forget, like dry
- 38:38cleaning tickets or coupons that expire. I was just going through your purses to make sure there
- 38:45wasn't anything important that you could possibly be missing out on. I was trying to be a helpful
- 38:53friend. I'm trying to be
- 38:55a helpful friend.
- 38:57Why wouldn't you do this in front of us?
- 39:00Just because
- 39:01it's... I don't think people
- 39:03would take
- 39:05too kindly to it. They'd just be like, don't worry.
- 39:08But I can
- 39:09do it on my own. But I
- 39:11just feel like it always gets put off.
- 39:13People never do it on their own. I was just trying to be helpful.
- 39:15By the way, Cindy,
- 39:17your comforter is ready for pickup.
- 39:19Oh, I forgot about my comforter.
- 39:20Yeah, see? Linda! I told you.
- 39:23wasn't that helpful?
- 39:25I forgive her.
- 39:27I don't have any old coupons or receipts.
- 39:29What'd you find in my bag?
- 39:32Just a picture of somebody else's kids.
- 39:35It was weird.
- 39:36They're so cute though, aren't they?
- 39:37They are pretty cute.
- 39:38I try and pass them off as mine.
- 39:41That's fair.
- 39:42They are cuter than your kids.
- 39:43Mine are real uggos.
- 39:46All right.
- 39:46I love you.
- 39:47Good.
- 39:48Here you go.
- 39:48See?
- 39:49You loved me at the end.
- 39:50Yeah.
- 39:50And thank you.
- 39:51Yeah.
- 39:52Because, you know, if you don't pick up your dry cleaning, they give it away eventually.
- 39:55Yeah, exactly.
- 39:55Or sell it.
- 39:56It's like some dry cleaners code.
- 39:59Yeah, like in the, they take the storage, like on storage wars.
- 40:03Yeah.
- 40:03Yeah, but it's all shirts and blankets.
- 40:05But they give you enough, I feel like they give you enough time where you can't be mad.
- 40:10It's like, okay, I didn't pick it up in a year.
- 40:13Yeah.
- 40:13Obviously, you didn't need it.
- 40:14What am I going to say?
- 40:15Yeah.
- 40:17Cool.
- 40:18Yeah, so that's my answer.
- 40:20Okay.
- 40:21Thanks.
- 40:22Sure.
- 40:24Okay.
- 40:24So I sort of do have a socially unacceptable hobby.
- 40:27Ooh.
- 40:29Which is collecting and keeping safe objects that would be offensive in today climate Which were some of which were passed down to me from my grandparents
- 40:48who didn't know better.
- 40:52And some of them I found at thrift stores.
- 40:55But the one I will describe to you is like, it's a little man on a stick and he's like
- 41:03a marionette and he dances, which sounds cute, right?
- 41:07Yeah.
- 41:07Well, he's a little black man.
- 41:10Oh.
- 41:11Oh.
- 41:11So that makes it inappropriate.
- 41:13And he's got a little bow tie and it's like.
- 41:16Like an old.
- 41:17Yeah.
- 41:17Like an old from the like 40s or.
- 41:21Yeah.
- 41:22You know.
- 41:22Kind of like.
- 41:23In the south where that was.
- 41:25Like minstrel shows.
- 41:26Was that what they're called?
- 41:27That's exactly what it was.
- 41:28Okay.
- 41:29And then I have a couple of little figurines that are like little babies that look like that.
- 41:36They're like precious moments figurines.
- 41:39I don't display these.
- 41:40Much like Ed and Lorraine Warren, I keep them hidden and safe so they can't do any more harm in the world.
- 41:48Ah, okay.
- 41:48But if someone were to be going through my piles of things one day and they'd be like, what is this?
- 41:57Yeah, don't ever put those in your purse when you're around Jenna.
- 42:00No, never.
- 42:02Also, yeah, your ancestors are going to have some interesting things to take to Uncle Teak's street display.
- 42:09Yes, yes.
- 42:10My grandmother had these.
- 42:11I don't know why.
- 42:13Yeah.
- 42:13They could be worth a ton of money, and I would still never, ever take them to be appraised.
- 42:19Okay.
- 42:20So you're hanging on to them so that they're not out in the wild.
- 42:24You take them from the market.
- 42:25You remove them from the market space.
- 42:26Exactly.
- 42:27I'm keeping them out of the world.
- 42:29And that's your defense?
- 42:31Yes.
- 42:32Okay.
- 42:33Okay.
- 42:33Yeah.
- 42:34I also collect, unoffensively, little nut containers that look like a walnut that have a squirrel sitting on top of them.
- 42:43I have like a dozen.
- 42:44Oh.
- 42:45Is that a common thing?
- 42:47I guess it must be.
- 42:49Apparently it's common enough.
- 42:49There's at least 12 of them.
- 42:51Yeah.
- 42:51My grandmother had like three and I was like, these are so neat.
- 42:55I'm going to put them all around my house.
- 42:58And then I keep finding them at thrift stores and things.
- 43:01So I have to buy them.
- 43:02Yeah.
- 43:03To keep my collection going strong.
- 43:04So it's a walnut and a squirrel's on top of it?
- 43:06The squirrel's on top of it.
- 43:07And it opens.
- 43:08Like the squirrel's the handle.
- 43:09Oh.
- 43:10Yeah.
- 43:10And then it opens and you put nuts in there.
- 43:13Oh.
- 43:13She's like, but the squirrel's black.
- 43:21Lovely.
- 43:22I can't wait to see your nut container.
- 43:25That you can see.
- 43:26That's on display.
- 43:27I'll show you my nuts.
- 43:28Thank you.
- 43:29Yeah.
- 43:30Lovely.
- 43:30Yeah.
- 43:31All right.
- 43:32It's my turn.
- 43:33Yeah.
- 43:33This is the best I could do.
- 43:36Sorry.
- 43:37I was thinking that I would shave people bald.
- 43:46Without their knowledge?
- 43:47Well, yeah.
- 43:47If I found them sleeping, this is a quick buzz.
- 43:50Or I could, like, run up and do a quick, and then, like, the middle part would be going to be like, should I finish?
- 43:54like the jackass guys used to do?
- 43:57Yeah, but I'm not a jackass.
- 43:59Oh, okay.
- 44:00So you're being polite about it.
- 44:02Yeah, I'm like, oh, sorry.
- 44:03Oh, God.
- 44:04I'm sorry.
- 44:06You're like an opportunistic hair shaver.
- 44:10Yes.
- 44:11And we're talking b-b-bald.
- 44:13Like super bald.
- 44:16Yeah.
- 44:16Is your word b-b-bald?
- 44:19No.
- 44:21Just throw the microphone.
- 44:22and my defense would be
- 44:25that we are all
- 44:27so
- 44:28shallow
- 44:30and vain that I
- 44:33my mission is in the world is to go out and show
- 44:35people that they're beautiful
- 44:36not because of their hair
- 44:39but because of their
- 44:41brains
- 44:42underneath all that hair
- 44:45the hair is blocking the brains
- 44:46and I just wanted them to see
- 44:49for one moment that it
- 44:51didn't matter and if that wasn't enough i'd whip out some sort of awareness pin and put it on and
- 44:58be like it's a campaign you know don't hurt me um i feel like everyone would have to go bald all
- 45:07at once for this to work i don't you're just doing it if you're responsible for balding everybody
- 45:13it's like everyone needs to feel it at the same time to be like oh well none of us have hair
- 45:20anymore i'll do little communities that are disconnected from technology what about people
- 45:26who are already bald yeah what what about people who are naturally bald they're getting hair
- 45:32they're getting the hair that you're taking off everyone else oh yeah i got glue in one hand and
- 45:37your hair in the other what about people who have that picard like cul-de-sac hair oh that comes off
- 45:46in one quick pull.
- 45:48It stays
- 45:49and keeps its shape.
- 45:51It's like a trophy?
- 45:52Yeah.
- 45:53Okay.
- 45:53That could be a big mustache.
- 45:56It could be a very big mustache.
- 45:58Yeah.
- 45:59Or a little tube top.
- 46:01Oh, yeah.
- 46:02Sexy.
- 46:02Oh, no.
- 46:03Little down here
- 46:06are the sideburns.
- 46:07Yep.
- 46:08My hair's down here.
- 46:11But my hands are up here.
- 46:14What do we think?
- 46:16I think yours would get the most ire from people.
- 46:21I don't think people would be okay with like,
- 46:24oh yeah, now I really see my real inner beauty.
- 46:27Also, what about people that don't have inner beauty?
- 46:29That are just kind of like assholes.
- 46:31I was going to say, some of the dumbest people that I know are bald.
- 46:34No, but also...
- 46:35Not where I thought you were going.
- 46:37You wanted to show the brains.
- 46:39No, but just...
- 46:40Also, not everybody has merit.
- 46:43That's true.
- 46:44Not everybody has merit.
- 46:45We don't know that until they're bald.
- 46:46Oh, so it reveals...
- 46:49You need your hair.
- 46:51You should grow that back now.
- 46:53Well, now we know.
- 46:54How would you like a...
- 46:55What'd you call it?
- 46:56The cul-de-sac.
- 46:57I've got a spare cul-de-sac you can throw on that.
- 47:03Oh.
- 47:05I feel so judged.
- 47:09Did you know I was shaved bald one time?
- 47:11Really?
- 47:12I did it myself, but...
- 47:13You just made it sound...
- 47:14I was shaved.
- 47:15I know.
- 47:15It was passive voice.
- 47:17By me.
- 47:17I was distancing myself from the acting.
- 47:19But I knew someone who buzzed their hair off, and they looked incredible.
- 47:22So I was like, I'm doing it.
- 47:23And then I have really short, spiked, like, fine hair.
- 47:26So I did it, and I was like, Uncle Fester.
- 47:30Like, immediately, like, oh, no.
- 47:33So I know about this stuff.
- 47:34Okay.
- 47:36But did your heart shine through when you were bald?
- 47:41Well, you know me.
- 47:43I'm great.
- 47:45so it all worked out yeah i learned to love myself okay all right yeah yours yours is the worst
- 47:55for sure thanks y'all i think you'd lose every friend if you did that yeah well all the real
- 48:03friends would stay don't try this please don't test this theory mentally don't leave me
- 48:13All right.
- 48:17Well, if you do that to me, I get to keep anything I find in your purse.
- 48:21Yeah, you do.
- 48:23Fine.
- 48:25All right.
- 48:25Well, I think that wraps up the big question.
- 48:29The big question.
- 48:31All right.
- 48:32You know what time it is.
- 48:33It's word guessing time.
- 48:35Okay.
- 48:36I have a little list.
- 48:37Okay.
- 48:38Okay.
- 48:38Do you want to go first?
- 48:40No, I don't.
- 48:41Okay.
- 48:42I'll go.
- 48:43And I don't think I'm going to get Chrissy's unless by the grace of God, it was a rage room.
- 48:49No.
- 48:50Okay.
- 48:51Darn.
- 48:53I have a guess for Chrissy.
- 48:55Okay.
- 48:57Is it delectably?
- 48:59Oh, no.
- 49:00Oh, okay.
- 49:01I just said that.
- 49:03Was it judged?
- 49:05No.
- 49:05Oh.
- 49:06Okay.
- 49:07Was it?
- 49:08I said it in the very beginning part.
- 49:10Chrissy said it within the first three minutes of the episode.
- 49:14I was so nervous to say it.
- 49:17And you said it so naturally.
- 49:18I said it right away.
- 49:19You said it.
- 49:19It was like, it was imperceptible.
- 49:22Was it after our intro?
- 49:24And I did make eye contact with you when I said it.
- 49:26Oh, no.
- 49:27Okay.
- 49:28Oh, no.
- 49:29And I was like, don't look at Jenna in the eye.
- 49:30Look away.
- 49:33No, this was actually before we even said, yeah.
- 49:36Those secret words.
- 49:38Wow.
- 49:38Only real sizzlers will know.
- 49:45Okay.
- 49:46She got us.
- 49:48She got us good.
- 49:49All right.
- 49:49What was your word?
- 49:51Cumulative.
- 49:52Whoa.
- 49:54Wait.
- 49:54When did you say it?
- 49:55When we were talking about Francis getting his money back that he's owed.
- 50:00I was like, you'll get the cumulative amount.
- 50:02That's not fair.
- 50:03I was caught up in the emotion of wanting my money back.
- 50:05You took advantage of Francis' emotions.
- 50:08Guard your hair tonight.
- 50:09Oh, no.
- 50:14Okay.
- 50:16All right.
- 50:17I have a guess for Francis.
- 50:21Okay, me too.
- 50:24Is your word hieroglyphs?
- 50:27No.
- 50:28Oh, that's a good guess.
- 50:29That was a good guess.
- 50:30Oh, dang.
- 50:31I was watching the shape of your lips to see if you were going to get it.
- 50:34I wanted to prepare myself because I don't want you to get it.
- 50:36Is your word proprietary?
- 50:39No, that is a common invention slang.
- 50:43Yeah.
- 50:44But great guess.
- 50:45Yeah, Francis often when he's inventing something, you're like, what about this problem?
- 50:48Don't worry, we have a proprietary this.
- 50:51Don't worry, we've got that covered.
- 50:53What about, I can't remember which one of you said this, but arrears?
- 50:57Oh, no, no, it's not.
- 51:00Not arrears?
- 51:01It's not me.
- 51:01Okay.
- 51:02I hate arrears.
- 51:03Yeah.
- 51:03My word is sovereign.
- 51:06oh when did you oh poland sovereign poland oh that was good you slipped that right by yeah
- 51:16it's a hard game isn't it yeah and now we go to jenna no i'm worried that you got my word
- 51:21you want to go first was it decapitated yes i wrote it down too
- 51:28I saw you both write it down
- 51:31I know I saw you both write it down too
- 51:33and I was so worried
- 51:35no
- 51:36I am losing so badly
- 51:40nicely done
- 51:42no
- 51:43can't believe it
- 51:46you both got it
- 51:47better decapitated than bald
- 51:49it's true
- 51:50I thought because it was such a ridiculous premise
- 51:54that my grandfather
- 51:55was decapitated
- 51:57looking at a glock and gloobin that happens the owners of glock and gloobins are frequently
- 52:03decapitated well i thought if i tied it back to the hands then it would maybe slip by i don't know
- 52:09what a great end man oh well that just stinks for me great for you guys
- 52:19and you're chrissy you're you're on the guest thing well you're gonna be

- 52:28You're number one on the guest.
- 52:30If anyone beats me, I'm going to
- 52:33shave their head Francis style.
- 52:35It doesn't count if someone else doesn't do it.
- 52:37Okay, well then we'll
- 52:39send you out. I'll be dispatched.
- 52:41Thank you. Leave a window unlocked.
- 52:42I need you to defend my honor.
