Latest / Early Edition with Ryan Bridge / Andrew Dickens: The cautious political answer Christopher Luxon gave on privatisation
Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: We are at the end of the week. In the
- 0:01Speaker 1: word of the week obviously was privatization, and it became
- 0:04Speaker 1: a debate because David Seymour said we should do it now,
- 0:07Speaker 1: and that was in his State of the Nation's speech
- 0:09Speaker 1: on Monday, So obviously the media asked the Prime Minister
- 0:12Speaker 1: what he thinks of the junior coalition partner's thoughts, and
- 0:15Speaker 1: when asked, Christopher Luxen vacillated, he gave the cautious political
- 0:20Speaker 1: answer he was trying not to upset to anyone. He
- 0:24Speaker 1: would see it, something like, oh, it's something we might
- 0:26Speaker 1: look at, but not without a mandate, so we might
- 0:28Speaker 1: campaign on it in two years time, so it won't
- 0:30Speaker 1: happen for two years or maybe even more. So don't
- 0:33Speaker 1: worry about it right now. Don't worry, we're all and
- 0:37Speaker 1: his answers were so convoluted that obviously the media asked
- 0:39Speaker 1: even more questions, and then of course people said, bloody
- 0:42Speaker 1: media trying to stir up trouble with their leftist bias.
- 0:45Speaker 1: But it was the Prime minister's fault for fath and
- 0:48Speaker 1: about trying not to upsett anyone, and more specifically the
- 0:51Speaker 1: center left and all the nationalists who hate the idea
- 0:53Speaker 1: of privatization, So in all his fath thing, I don't
- 0:57Speaker 1: think it worked. Why couldn't he just say good idea,
- 1:00Speaker 1: we agree next time, next and walk on because we
- 1:05Speaker 1: all know he agrees with the idea. We all know
- 1:07Speaker 1: the National Party agrees with the idea, Act agrees with
- 1:10Speaker 1: the idea, and we all know his supporters agree with
- 1:13Speaker 1: the idea. But he didn't. Some think that's good politics.
- 1:18Speaker 1: I don't. I vote for ideas, not people who say maybe,
- 1:22Speaker 1: because I have to say, Christopher Luxon is just like
- 1:24Speaker 1: every other politician. Their values blow in whichever win they
- 1:28Speaker 1: think the electorate is blowing. Politicians who don't just say yes,
- 1:32Speaker 1: They don't just say no, They say maybe, which frankly
- 1:36Speaker 1: is worse than both of the others. They all do it.
- 1:40Speaker 1: I mean, if you doubt me, why don't you go
- 1:42Speaker 1: along and talk to Chris Hipkins about capital gains tax
- 1:46Speaker 1: and watch the tap dance that happens after that. For
