- 0:03Speaker 1: Wake up
- 0:05Speaker 1: Good next.
- 0:07Speaker 1: Kicking off your day in the best way. It's Sonia
- 0:10Speaker 1: and Joakim on the shock circuit. Well, good morning. Welcome
- 0:12Speaker 1: to the final day of June.
- 0:15Speaker 1: No sleep for me.
- 0:15Speaker 2: Loads of action happening. We've got Germany against Paraguay happening
- 0:18Speaker 2: right now.
- 0:19Speaker 1: But what about last night? You didn't sleep also, right? Yeah,
- 0:22Speaker 1: I've got Gucci, Chanel bags under your eyes already at
- 0:24Speaker 1: this point. Stay tuned. Singapore's number one hit
- 0:28Speaker 1: music station.
- 0:32Speaker 2: Hands up if you lost sleep just to watch Brazil
- 0:37Speaker 2: against Japan earlier this morning at 1 a.m. and I
- 0:41Speaker 2: have to say this, for the Japan's men's national team,
- 0:45Speaker 2: you have nothing to be ashamed about. What an amazing effort,
- 0:50Speaker 2: by the way, against Brazil.
- 0:53Speaker 2: But unfortunately, going down at the 6th minute of injury time,
- 0:58Speaker 2: a 90 + 6 to a Gabriel Martinelli winner for Brazil.
- 1:03Speaker 2: But as it stands currently for the 2nd of 3
- 1:07Speaker 2: knockout games that we have this morning, it's Germany 1,
- 1:12Speaker 2: Paraguay 1, and we are into the 83rd minute. I'm
- 1:15Speaker 2: actually tuned in live in the studio. So today, it's
- 1:19Speaker 2: another day of glorified.
- 1:21Speaker 2: Multitasking as we take you to school as well as
- 1:24Speaker 2: work here on this Tuesday. It is Joakim Gomez going
- 1:27Speaker 2: solo today as our darling Sonia Chew. Yesterday, she was
- 1:31Speaker 2: sharing how she feels as if she was coming under
- 1:34Speaker 2: the weather. Today, unfortunately, yes, it has got into a
- 1:37Speaker 2: full-blown cold. She's gonna go see the doctor and she's
- 1:40Speaker 2: on MC today. Back with us tomorrow here on the
- 1:43Speaker 2: shock circuit. But not to worry, loads of prizes coming
- 1:46Speaker 2: your way, including info about this.
- 1:48Speaker 2: Formula One, Singapore Airlines, Singapore Grand Prix. Just giving you
- 1:52Speaker 2: a World Cup update. We are into extra time. When
- 1:55Speaker 2: it comes to Germany and Paraguay, it is still 1-1.
- 1:59Speaker 2: We have half an hour more of play to go
- 2:02Speaker 2: before it goes into heartbreaking penalties. But if there's anyone
- 2:06Speaker 2: who's not going to be feeling heartbreak this weekend, it
- 2:09Speaker 2: could be Taylor Swift and Travis Kelsey, highly rumored to
- 2:12Speaker 2: be tying the knot officially this weekend at Madison Square Garden.
- 2:16Speaker 2: And for Taylor Swift and Travis Kelsey, I can only
- 2:19Speaker 2: imagine the wedding guest list and who's gonna be invited.
- 2:22Speaker 2: There's gonna be loads of celebrities and sports figures attending
- 2:27Speaker 2: the wedding. Whether will they get even one second to
- 2:30Speaker 2: shake the hand of Taylor or Travis to congratulate them?
- 2:33Speaker 2: I wonder. I just wanna be a fly on the
- 2:36Speaker 2: wall when it comes to all the wedding discussions and preparations.
- 2:39Speaker 2: For someone the level of Taylor and Travis Kelsey. So, apparently,
- 2:43Speaker 2: according to sources very close to the couple, usually means
- 2:46Speaker 2: a friend or maybe a family member, they say that
- 2:49Speaker 2: Taylor Swift is busy curating the food items that will
- 2:54Speaker 2: be served during the wedding. And one particular restaurant that
- 2:58Speaker 2: she has pointed out.
- 2:59Speaker 2: is her favorite Italian food place in New York City.
- 3:03Speaker 2: It's called Va Carrotta. Hopefully I'm saying this correctly. So
- 3:07Speaker 2: I'm looking at the menu right now. It, it looks
- 3:10Speaker 2: like very high-end Italian food. They've got very nice vegetables,
- 3:15Speaker 2: and of course their meats look fantastic. And do I
- 3:18Speaker 2: even need to get started?
- 3:20Speaker 2: When it comes to the pasta. So, if you're ever
- 3:23Speaker 2: in New York City, maybe Via Carrotta could be a
- 3:26Speaker 2: place to go and dine just to experience what Taylor
- 3:28Speaker 2: Swift loves when it comes to Italian food. And speaking
- 3:31Speaker 2: of the future bride herself, why not play you something
- 3:34Speaker 2: from her album this weekend? To Travis Kelsey, we say
- 3:38Speaker 2: congratulations to the couple.
- 3:41Speaker 2: I'm pretty sure we're gonna see loads of pictures of
- 3:44Speaker 2: the both of them from maybe some of the other
- 3:47Speaker 2: celebrities that you follow on social media because they could
- 3:50Speaker 2: very well be invited to go to Madison Square Garden
- 3:53Speaker 2: to be in the moment for Travis Kelsey and Taylor Swift.
- 3:56Speaker 2: When we come back though, speaking of being in the moment,
- 3:58Speaker 2: how about you, if you're on your way to school
- 4:01Speaker 2: right now, you call us at 669-11987. Don't call now,
- 4:06Speaker 2: maybe call in, say less than 5 minutes.
- 4:08Speaker 2: When I officially opened up the phone lines. Tell us
- 4:11Speaker 2: how your June holidays went. Give us an update. How's
- 4:13Speaker 2: your life going? What are you looking forward to in
- 4:16Speaker 2: the second semester of school? And of course, the takeaway
- 4:19Speaker 2: for you is, you get to request for your favorite
- 4:22Speaker 2: song to play here on 987. It can go out
- 4:24Speaker 2: to anyone, your parents, your teachers, your discipline master, maybe
- 4:29Speaker 2: even your principal. Let us know. Be on standby to
- 4:32Speaker 2: call us in just a while, giving you a live update.
- 4:34Speaker 2: It's Germany.
- 4:36Speaker 2: 2, Paraguay won, but there's currently a VAR check for
- 4:42Speaker 2: the goal scored by Germany's Jonathan Ta for an apparent
- 4:46Speaker 2: push at the back of a Paraguaayan defender. Let's see
- 4:49Speaker 2: whether the goal be allowed or still ruled out. But
- 4:53Speaker 2: right now, phone lines are open over at 669-119-87. If
- 4:58Speaker 2: you wish to call us and tell us how your
- 4:59Speaker 2: June holidays went as you're making your way to school,
- 5:02Speaker 2: give your school.
- 5:03Speaker 2: A shout out as well. Maybe even your CCA. Let
- 5:06Speaker 2: us know what is anything interesting happening this week for
- 5:10Speaker 2: you or whether are you equally sleepy as I am
- 5:13Speaker 2: watching all those World Cup games. And the biggest takeaway
- 5:16Speaker 2: for you are two things. Number one, you get to
- 5:18Speaker 2: practice your oratory skills. You get to speak to someone,
- 5:22Speaker 2: your conversational skills, and then the second thing is you
- 5:25Speaker 2: request for your favorite song to play here on 987.
- 5:28Speaker 2: I can't think. 987, hello, what's your name?
- 5:31Speaker 2: Uh, my name is Jared. Hello, Jared, what school are
- 5:34Speaker 2: you from, buddy? Uh, I'm from ACS Junior. ACS Junior. OK.
- 5:39Speaker 2: How was your June holidays? Um, it was, in a word, exciting. Exciting.
- 5:45Speaker 2: What do you do?
- 5:46Speaker 2: Um, I went to Japan and the Science Center. Alright,
- 5:49Speaker 2: which part of Japan do you go to? Uh, I
- 5:52Speaker 2: went to Hokkaido, Hakone, and Tokyo. Was it very crowded
- 5:56Speaker 2: or was it nice and easy for you?
- 5:59Speaker 2: I think it was OK. And what's your best memory
- 6:02Speaker 2: of Japan?
- 6:04Speaker 2: I think the Harry Potter experience at Tokyo. Oh, OK,
- 6:09Speaker 2: I'm glad you had a good time. So, how's school
- 6:12Speaker 2: been for you? Are you OK with sleep? Are you
- 6:14Speaker 2: slowly easing back to studies and work now?
- 6:17Speaker 2: Yeah. What's, is there anything interesting happening in school today
- 6:21Speaker 2: or this week?
- 6:22Speaker 2: Um, not that I'm aware of.
- 6:26Speaker 2: Alrighty. Jared, what song can I get for you and
- 6:29Speaker 2: your friends over at ACS Junior? Someone you love. Can
- 6:33Speaker 2: World Cup update coming your way? It's going to penalties
- 6:37Speaker 2: for Germany against Paraguay, and if you're a Germany fan
- 6:41Speaker 2: like yours truly, this is disappointing from us. I was
- 6:45Speaker 2: hoping for Germany to
- 6:46Speaker 2: Really bury this game and move in comfortably to the
- 6:49Speaker 2: round of 16, but well done, Paraguay for holding Germany
- 6:52Speaker 2: to a 1-1 draw. Let's see now. Heroes will be made,
- 6:56Speaker 2: villains will be created. And speaking of heroes and villains,
- 7:00Speaker 2: in a month's time, at least here in Singaporean cinemas,
- 7:04Speaker 2: we are getting Spider-Man brand new day.
- 7:08Speaker 2: OK, let, let's be absolutely honest here with each other, OK? The,
- 7:13Speaker 2: the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it's in a mess. But when
- 7:16Speaker 2: it comes down to the Spider-Man films, I know that
- 7:19Speaker 2: the people who make the films will treat it with
- 7:22Speaker 2: care because Spider-Man is a superhero franchise that a lot.
- 7:26Speaker 2: A lot of comic book fans feel very strongly for.
- 7:29Speaker 2: So judging from the trailers alone, Spider-Man Brand New Day
- 7:33Speaker 2: promises loads of surprises. It's really exciting. We are seeing
- 7:38Speaker 2: Mark Ruffalo Hulk up and turn into the Hulk again.
- 7:42Speaker 2: I think the last time he did that was maybe
- 7:45Speaker 2: the first Avengers film in 2012. Yes, it's been a good, what,
- 7:50Speaker 2: 14 years since we've seen it.
- 7:53Speaker 2: Uh, there'll be people like Zendaya, Tom Holland in the film.
- 7:56Speaker 2: Will they actually remember each other? There is a group
- 7:59Speaker 2: called The Hand, John Bernthal's Punishers in the film, and
- 8:03Speaker 2: people are saying that Sadie Sink, yes, the very same
- 8:07Speaker 2: person who plays Max in Stranger Things, she could be
- 8:10Speaker 2: in the movie as well, but will she be a
- 8:13Speaker 2: young Gwen Stacy or a young Jean Grey? It remains
- 8:18Speaker 2: to be seen, but they've been teasing.
- 8:19Speaker 2: Her back shots and even during interviews when talk show
- 8:23Speaker 2: hosts press her to answer that question, she has to
- 8:25Speaker 2: deflect because I'm very sure if you're in a Marvel
- 8:28Speaker 2: Cinematic Universe movie, you have to sign a very strict
- 8:32Speaker 2: contract that says non-disclosure. Unless, of course, maybe you are
- 8:36Speaker 2: Robert Downey Junior. But here is a small teaser from
- 8:40Speaker 2: Tom Holland himself. You would know that there's a spider-Verse, right?
- 8:44Speaker 2: And if you do watch the spider
- 8:46Speaker 2: Spiderverse films, that's Miles Morales. Tom Holland is doing his
- 8:50Speaker 2: best to push for a film with Peter Parker's Spider-Man
- 8:55Speaker 2: and Miles Morales's Spider-Man together. If it happens, I think
- 9:00Speaker 2: you'll be amazing. I wonder what storyline they'll follow, because
- 9:04Speaker 2: if you're a gamer, Marvel's Spider-Man 2, they have, they
- 9:08Speaker 2: have both Peter Parker and Miles Morales as Spider-Man. Boy
- 9:10Speaker 2: Next door, talk, talk, talk, right here.
- 9:14Speaker 2: Sorry. Just trying to keep a straight face as I
- 9:17Speaker 2: say that name, but anyway, talk, talk, talk right here
- 9:19Speaker 2: on 987. Your number one hit music station, Joakim Gomez
- 9:23Speaker 2: here with you as I recover from all that drama
- 9:26Speaker 2: that just happened between Paraguay and Germany. But OK, moving
- 9:29Speaker 2: on with real life. Grand Theft Auto 6, it'll be
- 9:33Speaker 2: Out November 19th, and look, it's only playable on a
- 9:38Speaker 2: PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S. So, if you
- 9:44Speaker 2: don't have a console, but you want to get for
- 9:48Speaker 2: yourself Grand Theft Auto 6 and you wanna play it,
- 9:50Speaker 2: that means you could be console shopping right now.
- 9:53Speaker 2: And what are we dealing with in the world? Scalpers.
- 9:57Speaker 2: Not just for tickets, but major retailers are warning people
- 10:01Speaker 2: worldwide that there could be a console shortage as people
- 10:05Speaker 2: are as they are trying to meet the demand for
- 10:08Speaker 2: an increase in console demand to play Grand Theft Auto
- 10:10Speaker 2: 6 with, but the scalpers are now buying up all
- 10:13Speaker 2: these consoles and they are selling it at insane amounts.
- 10:17Speaker 2: So we are victims again of
- 10:19Speaker 2: The scalpers, so hopefully you have your PlayStation 5, Xbox
- 10:23Speaker 2: Series X or even S in good condition. Keep it
- 10:26Speaker 2: well because November 19th, that is where Grand Theft Auto
- 10:29Speaker 2: 6 will be out and yes, I applied for leave
- 10:33Speaker 2: November 20th. I'm definitely gonna be gaming overnight and really
- 10:37Speaker 2: just enjoying every single moment of Grand Theft Auto 6,
- 10:40Speaker 2: which took 13 years since the last Grand Theft Auto,
- 10:44Speaker 2: that was Grand Theft Auto 5.
- 10:46Speaker 2: We got some Shakira and Burna Boy. This one is
- 10:48Speaker 2: called The Die Die. At 9 a.m. it's Netherlands against
- 10:52Speaker 2: Morocco for World Cup 2026. I remember being a very
- 10:56Speaker 2: nervous 18 to 19 year old going to the club
- 10:59Speaker 2: for the very first time. What's my very first drink?
- 11:02Speaker 2: Oh yeah, vodka, cranberry, please.
- 11:05Speaker 2: Hey, we were all a nervous 18 year old once
- 11:08Speaker 2: to keep going to the club for the very first time.
- 11:10Speaker 2: But anyway, saw a very interesting article just yesterday and
- 11:14Speaker 2: it made me wonder. And this was inspired by apparently
- 11:19Speaker 2: there was a World Cities Summit that was hosted here
- 11:23Speaker 2: in Singapore in the middle of June.
- 11:25Speaker 2: And people are just exchanging ideas or, you know, how
- 11:28Speaker 2: to build a greater sense of belonging to their respective city.
- 11:31Speaker 2: And the mayor of Paris, Miss Anne Hidaglo was saying
- 11:36Speaker 2: that how, oh, you know, quite some time back during
- 11:39Speaker 2: the Paris Olympics back in 20.
- 11:40Speaker 2: 24, we actually cleaned up the River Seine for people
- 11:44Speaker 2: to go and clean and even she herself to show
- 11:47Speaker 2: that hey, it's safe to do so, she stepped in
- 11:49Speaker 2: the River Seine and went for a swim to prove
- 11:52Speaker 2: to the Parisians that yes, you can do so, even
- 11:55Speaker 2: though
- 11:56Speaker 2: People have lots to say about how dirty it was
- 11:59Speaker 2: and whether it truly safe. Inspired by that, maybe there
- 12:03Speaker 2: was a commentary or opinion piece about how us here
- 12:07Speaker 2: in Singapore can build a sense of belonging or more
- 12:11Speaker 2: sense of belonging for our country. One of the ideas
- 12:14Speaker 2: included swimming in the Singapore River.
- 12:20Speaker 2: I'll give you my two cents in a while, because
- 12:22Speaker 2: this is where you can call us at 669-119-87 or
- 12:26Speaker 2: you can WhatsApp us your opinions at 90050987 and what
- 12:31Speaker 2: we have this entire week for you. How about a
- 12:33Speaker 2: $100 Cocoa Island Singapore voucher? Look, the weather here in Singapore,
- 12:38Speaker 2: it is fickle. One day it's raining and one day
- 12:41Speaker 2: it's really hot and humid. So how about quenching your thirst?
- 12:45Speaker 2: This summer season, but here in Singapore, of course, it's
- 12:47Speaker 2: always summer.
- 12:48Speaker 2: With pure coconut water, it is easy to store and
- 12:52Speaker 2: super convenient. Each packet or bottle contains 100% pure Thai
- 12:57Speaker 2: coconut water with no added sugar, and it even comes
- 13:00Speaker 2: with a velvety coconut flesh. You can log on to
- 13:04Speaker 2: coco Islandsg.com for more details. And this one is inspired
- 13:09Speaker 2: by what I saw yesterday in the papers about how
- 13:12Speaker 2: we can build a sense of belonging to our country, Singapore.
- 13:18Speaker 2: This one inspired by, I didn't know we had such
- 13:20Speaker 2: a thing, the World Cities Summit that Singapore played host
- 13:24Speaker 2: to in the month of June. I think maybe just
- 13:26Speaker 2: a few weeks back, and we were exchanging ideas on
- 13:29Speaker 2: how different cities build a sense of community or a
- 13:33Speaker 2: sense of belonging in their respective countries and cities. One
- 13:36Speaker 2: of the ideas that was floated up, maybe in this
- 13:39Speaker 2: newspaper article or it could be an opinion piece as well.
- 13:43Speaker 2: The public swimming in Singapore River.
- 13:49Speaker 2: When, when I saw this line, I went, hey, no
- 13:52Speaker 2: need lah. No, no, no, please, please don't. Again, the
- 13:55Speaker 2: Singapore River is nice from the outside. I, I cannot
- 13:58Speaker 2: say about from the inside because whenever they do the
- 14:00Speaker 2: T100 or those triathlon events here in Singapore, right, I
- 14:03Speaker 2: always tell the triathletes that I know personally, respect to
- 14:08Speaker 2: you for swimming in the Singapore River. We've heard stories,
- 14:12Speaker 2: we we we've seen the mess sometimes and look,
- 14:16Speaker 2: I I don't feel proud saying this, but there were
- 14:18Speaker 2: one too many clubbing nights where I had to really
- 14:20Speaker 2: let it all go and yeah, where do I aim
- 14:23Speaker 2: it at? The Singapore River. I apologize, OK, for my
- 14:27Speaker 2: foolish behavior in my youth. So unless you tell me
- 14:30Speaker 2: the Singapore River is gonna go through like 61 rounds
- 14:34Speaker 2: of cleaning.
- 14:35Speaker 2: I I don't know about swimming there, you know. Yeah,
- 14:38Speaker 2: I know it's things that our grandfathers or maybe even
- 14:42Speaker 2: our forefathers might have done in the past, though there
- 14:44Speaker 2: are those very nice bronze statues over there of the
- 14:47Speaker 2: kids jumping in the river, but yeah, that was the past.
- 14:50Speaker 2: I don't I don't think anybody would want to go
- 14:52Speaker 2: and swim in the Singapore River right now. So, I
- 14:54Speaker 2: do have a question for you. I wanna have some
- 14:57Speaker 2: fun here, OK? And
- 14:58Speaker 2: You might, you don't, don't be surprised on who's actually
- 15:01Speaker 2: tuned in to us here in the mornings because sometimes
- 15:04Speaker 2: I get people who are in parliament coming to me
- 15:06Speaker 2: and Sonia saying, hey, you know, I tune in to
- 15:08Speaker 2: you every morning and I'm like, wow, OK, maybe your
- 15:12Speaker 2: answers could make a difference here in Singapore. Maybe if
- 15:15Speaker 2: you float a very good idea up, somebody who's tuned
- 15:18Speaker 2: in might bring it into parliament for discussion and it
- 15:22Speaker 2: could work, it could be implemented. So here's my question.
- 15:25Speaker 2: If you were in charge of Singapore for one day, OK,
- 15:30Speaker 2: just for one day.
- 15:32Speaker 2: What would you do to make people love this city
- 15:36Speaker 2: even more? Like, how would you encourage Singaporeans to build
- 15:40Speaker 2: a sense of belonging to us here in our country?
- 15:44Speaker 2: Let us know, 669-119-87 or you can WhatsApp us at 90050987. Again,
- 15:51Speaker 2: if we do like your answer, what's coming your way,
- 15:54Speaker 2: a very nice dining experience. All thanks to our friends over.
- 15:57Speaker 2: At Cocoa Island, they want to give you some nice
- 15:59Speaker 2: pure coconut water. In case you just joined us on
- 16:02Speaker 2: this Tuesday morning, saw a very interesting article yesterday in
- 16:06Speaker 2: the papers about how Singaporeans can build a further sense
- 16:10Speaker 2: of belonging in our city. Yes. And one of the
- 16:14Speaker 2: ideas included public swimming in the Singapore River, to which, yeah, uh, again,
- 16:19Speaker 2: I wish I had Sonia here to balance me out.
- 16:21Speaker 2: Maybe she might have a different view of this, but
- 16:25Speaker 2: OK. Knowing the both of us, I think both of
- 16:29Speaker 2: us might say, hey, no need lah. Don't swim in
- 16:31Speaker 2: the Singapore River unless you tell us there's gonna be
- 16:34Speaker 2: many rounds of cleaning, cleaning being done in the Singapore
- 16:39Speaker 2: River itself, and then you'll make it really clean for
- 16:41Speaker 2: the public to jump in and maybe cool off on
- 16:43Speaker 2: the Singaporean heat. Maybe, why not? But my question today
- 16:47Speaker 2: is this, if you were in charge of Singapore for
- 16:49Speaker 2: a day, just for a day.
- 16:52Speaker 2: What would you do to build a further sense of
- 16:55Speaker 2: belonging for Singaporeans to Singapore? I asked and I shall
- 17:00Speaker 2: receive loads of answers coming in. I do want to
- 17:03Speaker 2: say good morning on WhatsApp to Ching Shen. Ching Chuan,
- 17:06Speaker 2: you say, I turn more rooftops into public parks and gardens.
- 17:12Speaker 2: Imagine watching the sunset over the city, having a picnic
- 17:15Speaker 2: or exercising without having to travel far. Actually, um,
- 17:19Speaker 2: Again, I know they have plenty of HDB blocks now,
- 17:23Speaker 2: especially the newer ones that have a rooftop park or
- 17:26Speaker 2: a rooftop badminton court. The one over at Bishan, I
- 17:29Speaker 2: say Bishan a lot because I stay there and I
- 17:31Speaker 2: love that area. Bishan Ridges. There is a block that
- 17:34Speaker 2: has a badminton court and a playground at the top
- 17:37Speaker 2: of it, but I'm just wondering, what if the shuttlecock.
- 17:41Speaker 2: You whack it a bit too hard and it falls
- 17:42Speaker 2: all the way down like 30 stories. Anyway, gonna read
- 17:46Speaker 2: more texts on WhatsApp saying good morning to Jenny. Jenny,
- 17:49Speaker 2: you say, I create a permanent Pasar Malam village that's
- 17:53Speaker 2: open every weekend. Local food, thrift stalls, buskers, arcade games,
- 17:59Speaker 2: somewhere that becomes part of Singapore's identity, but
- 18:03Speaker 2: Jenny, would your pasar malam be old school pasar malam
- 18:07Speaker 2: prices or new school pasar malam prices? Keep the calls
- 18:10Speaker 2: coming in over at 669-119-87 or you can WhatsApp us
- 18:15Speaker 2: at 90050987 again. So, we're on the topic of if
- 18:19Speaker 2: you were in charge of Singapore for a day, how
- 18:21Speaker 2: would you build a further sense of belonging to our country?
- 18:27Speaker 2: You never know who's tuned in. Sometimes we get people
- 18:29Speaker 2: who are in parliament saying, hey, Sonia and Joakim, we
- 18:31Speaker 2: love your show in the morning. So yes, they could
- 18:33Speaker 2: be tuning in and maybe your ideas could spark some discussions,
- 18:38Speaker 2: because this was inspired by an article that I saw
- 18:40Speaker 2: in the papers yesterday about perhaps a potential idea could
- 18:44Speaker 2: be public swimming in the Singapore River to bring back
- 18:47Speaker 2: the good old days, but
- 18:49Speaker 2: Yeah
- 18:51Speaker 2: Again, I, I, I say this with tongue in cheek.
- 18:55Speaker 2: If you tell me that we're gonna go through 60
- 18:58Speaker 2: rounds of cleaning of the Singapore River, then maybe I'll
- 19:01Speaker 2: feel that it's safe enough for me to jump in
- 19:03Speaker 2: without worrying about anything that might upset my stomach or body.
- 19:06Speaker 2: But going to WhatsApp right now over at 90050987. I
- 19:11Speaker 2: wanna say good morning to
- 19:12Speaker 2: Faisal, Faisal, you say I would organize small celebrations to
- 19:16Speaker 2: bring back memories growing up to charity elephant, courtesy lion,
- 19:21Speaker 2: and the environmental frog. This was what it meant to
- 19:25Speaker 2: be Singaporeans in the late 80s to early 90s, where
- 19:28Speaker 2: gracious living and kampong spirit is being shared. Wow!
- 19:33Speaker 2: When he said courtesy lion, I thought of the jingle,
- 19:35Speaker 2: courtesy is for you, courtesy is for me. Wanna say
- 19:39Speaker 2: hello also to Edwin on WhatsApp who says, give more
- 19:43Speaker 2: CDC vouchers. I'll feel more sense of belonging to the NTUC.
- 19:49Speaker 2: OK, we've heard from adults. I've got Chengi on the line. Chengxi,
- 19:54Speaker 2: the future of Singapore, what do you think? How would
- 19:56Speaker 2: you build a further sense of belonging here in our country?
- 19:59Speaker 2: Like I bring the kampongs back because like it really
- 20:02Speaker 2: brings back old memories. I even had my teacher, like
- 20:06Speaker 2: she said her husband also has deep memories of it, so.
- 20:10Speaker 2: I think I would like to bring like the kampong back.
- 20:12Speaker 2: So what will be in your kampong? Like the old stuff,
- 20:15Speaker 2: like the more vintage stuff from the old Singapore. Do
- 20:18Speaker 2: you know that we actually have one last kampong in Singapore?
- 20:22Speaker 2: Yeah, that's why I want more. Ah, because it cannot
- 20:26Speaker 2: be like that one kampong, like it's too less. That
- 20:30Speaker 2: is an idea coming in from Chengi. Thank you very much.
- 20:33Speaker 2: I think it'll definitely get people talking. Keep the calls
- 20:36Speaker 2: coming in. Going to WhatsApp right now, and if you're
- 20:39Speaker 2: wondering what inspired this topic, uh, very quickly, yesterday in
- 20:42Speaker 2: the papers, I saw that.
- 20:43Speaker 2: There was a World Cities Summit here in Singapore held
- 20:47Speaker 2: maybe say a few weeks ago, where there were some
- 20:49Speaker 2: discussions between us and other countries and their mayors were
- 20:52Speaker 2: in town, just talking about building a sense of belonging,
- 20:56Speaker 2: and some of the ideas floated up. It could be
- 20:58Speaker 2: an opinion piece or a commentary piece in the papers,
- 21:01Speaker 2: where maybe allow public swimming in the Singapore River.
- 21:05Speaker 2: I mean, the, the idea is there. It was an
- 21:08Speaker 2: activity that was done a long time ago, but given
- 21:11Speaker 2: as to what is inside the Singapore River now, I
- 21:14Speaker 2: don't know about that.
- 21:15Speaker 2: So there has to be other ways. I wanna go
- 21:17Speaker 2: to WhatsApp and just say good morning to a few people. Firstly,
- 21:20Speaker 2: I wanna say hello to Shi Hui. Shi Wei says, morning, Joakim.
- 21:24Speaker 2: To build a sense of belonging among Singaporeans, I would
- 21:27Speaker 2: start a community of Singaporean supporters where we go support
- 21:31Speaker 2: a particular struggling hawker every week. The hawker can even
- 21:35Speaker 2: offer to teach how to cook the local cuisine, so
- 21:37Speaker 2: our local cuisine doesn't get lost across generations. Wow, Shihui.
- 21:42Speaker 2: You're onto something here. This is, this is beach cleanups,
- 21:46Speaker 2: but a different community altogether to support our hawkers. I
- 21:50Speaker 2: would love to see this happen, to be honest with you.
- 21:52Speaker 2: One more coming in from Kelvin. Kelvin says, can we
- 21:55Speaker 2: get the Milo trucks doing daily runs at various estates? Kelvin,
- 22:00Speaker 2: if this happens,
- 22:02Speaker 2: I think Milo and you should have a chat. Two
- 22:04Speaker 2: more texts to read you, very meaningful ones coming in
- 22:08Speaker 2: on how you would build a sense of belonging to Singapore,
- 22:12Speaker 2: inspired by the World Cities Summit that was hosted, that
- 22:16Speaker 2: was hosted a few weeks ago in our country, and
- 22:19Speaker 2: there were some discussions on how to build a further
- 22:21Speaker 2: sense of belonging. Some of the ideas floated up was
- 22:24Speaker 2: public swimming in the Singapore River.
- 22:26Speaker 2: To me, personally, sounds a bit drastic. I don't think
- 22:30Speaker 2: anybody would voluntarily jump in unless of course you sign
- 22:33Speaker 2: up for the T100 and yeah, I respect any triathlete
- 22:37Speaker 2: who has to swim in our Singapore river knowing what's
- 22:39Speaker 2: in there and knowing what's not in there as well.
- 22:42Speaker 2: Um, unless you tell me, of course, they're gonna go
- 22:44Speaker 2: through plenty of cleaning, plenty of rounds of it, then
- 22:47Speaker 2: maybe I might feel OK. I'll just give it a
- 22:50Speaker 2: try to cool off from the heat here in Singapore
- 22:52Speaker 2: that we are so used to. But there are two
- 22:54Speaker 2: texts coming in. The first one from Mirza.
- 22:57Speaker 2: Who says, hey, Joakim, why don't we start building back
- 23:00Speaker 2: HDBs with long and large void decks? Think about it.
- 23:04Speaker 2: Where do you think our local football players started playing football? Voidex.
- 23:08Speaker 2: Kids can have more space to play, not just football,
- 23:11Speaker 2: any games like hopscotch, or as simple as catching. They
- 23:14Speaker 2: can have a break from their devices, give their eyes
- 23:16Speaker 2: some rest, and bring back occasions like the old nostalgic
- 23:20Speaker 2: Malay weddings, birthday celebrations, and also.
- 23:23Speaker 2: occasions like funerals. This is Singapore's identity, multi-functional void decks
- 23:28Speaker 2: that bring the community together. Yes, we have the multi-purpose hall,
- 23:31Speaker 2: but it's not the same. Often I find it very
- 23:33Speaker 2: cramped and stuffy. It's just not as spacious as our
- 23:36Speaker 2: void decks. So to MMD if you're tuning in, please
- 23:40Speaker 2: reconsider HDBs and void decks again to bring back Singapore's
- 23:44Speaker 2: identity and communities closer. Wow, Mirza, you definitely
- 23:48Speaker 2: I thought about this one, and thank you for wording
- 23:50Speaker 2: it so kindly and nicely. Wanna say also good morning
- 23:54Speaker 2: to Yanni. Hello Yanni. You say, morning, Joakim. Back in
- 23:57Speaker 2: the old days, the kampong spirit in Singapore was truly
- 24:00Speaker 2: something special. When there was a Malay wedding, neighbors would
- 24:04Speaker 2: gather under the void deck to help. Some would chop ingredients,
- 24:07Speaker 2: prepare the food, cook together, and help with the wedding preparations.
- 24:11Speaker 2: This was known as rewang. Hopefully I'm saying that correctly.
- 24:14Speaker 2: A tradition where everyone came together, not because they were
- 24:17Speaker 2: asked to, but because of the bond, care, and sense
- 24:20Speaker 2: of community. It would be wonderful if this spirit could return,
- 24:23Speaker 2: not just to help with the celebration, but to rebuild
- 24:26Speaker 2: the neighborly connections that made the Kampong days feel like
- 24:29Speaker 2: one big family. Wow!
- 24:31Speaker 2: Thank you very much for your texts, Yanni, as well
- 24:33Speaker 2: as Mirza. I'm gonna have a very hard time picking
- 24:35Speaker 2: the winner for today, but when we come back, let's
- 24:37Speaker 2: pick one for the Cocoa Island dining experience worth $100.
- 24:42Speaker 2: If you love your coconut water, this is definitely up
- 24:45Speaker 2: your alley. Again, you can log on to Coco Islandsg.com.
- 24:49Speaker 2: For more details. Time right here on 987, your number
- 24:52Speaker 2: one hit music station. Thank you so much for all
- 24:55Speaker 2: your calls and texts, by the way, on how would
- 24:57Speaker 2: you foster a greater sense of belonging here in Singapore.
- 25:00Speaker 2: All sorts of meaningful answers, but I think for today's winner,
- 25:04Speaker 2: I want to give it to Shi Hui. Congratulations Shihui.
- 25:10Speaker 2: Who texted in earlier saying, to build a sense of
- 25:13Speaker 2: belonging among Singaporeans, I would start a community of Singaporean
- 25:16Speaker 2: supporters where we go support a particular struggling hawker every week.
- 25:21Speaker 2: The hawker can even offer to teach how to cook
- 25:23Speaker 2: the local cuisine so our local cuisines don't get lost
- 25:27Speaker 2: across the generations. Well, Shuei, if you do start this community,
- 25:31Speaker 2: get me involved. I would love to support them as well,
- 25:34Speaker 2: and I think you'll be very, very busy.
- 25:37Speaker 2: Trying to, in a way, rescue some of the hawker
- 25:40Speaker 2: stalls that could be on the verge of closing down.
- 25:42Speaker 2: We're getting too many of them, so please, if you can,
- 25:45Speaker 2: do support our local hawkers. Thank you very much, Su Hui.
- 25:48Speaker 2: What's coming your way, of course, a very nice dining experience.
- 25:51Speaker 2: All thanks to Cocoa Island, Singapore. Coming your way. It's
- 25:54Speaker 2: kickoff between Netherlands and Morocco, and it's looking to be
- 25:58Speaker 2: a heated clash. Loads of slight tackles and fouls and
- 26:02Speaker 2: some confrontations have happened already.
- 26:04Speaker 2: And we're only 11 minutes in. Brace your sales people.
- 26:08Speaker 2: We could be in for one open inverted commas, violent
- 26:12Speaker 2: clash of two big teams when it comes to football.
- 26:15Speaker 2: That said though, do you have $31 million lying around
- 26:20Speaker 2: anywhere and you wanna buy for yourself a nice piece
- 26:23Speaker 2: of property that spans about 104,000 square feet across multiple levels? Yeah,
- 26:30Speaker 2: our friends
- 26:32Speaker 2: Golden Mile Tower has put up for sale the Carnival
- 26:36Speaker 2: Cinema Screening auditorium, which currently screens Bollywood and regional films. So,
- 26:42Speaker 2: I'm looking at the space and according to some suggestions,
- 26:46Speaker 2: that space could be converted into maybe say, an auditorium
- 26:50Speaker 2: for concerts with a seating capacity of close to 2000
- 26:54Speaker 2: or maybe even an event venue, a media production studio,
- 26:58Speaker 2: or a gym.
- 26:59Speaker 2: Actually, a gym won't be such a bad idea. Maybe
- 27:03Speaker 2: that's where we can finally have a more Hrock-centric space,
- 27:06Speaker 2: but I don't know whether it's the hype for Hrocks
- 27:10Speaker 2: what it is as compared to maybe say 2 or
- 27:13Speaker 2: even last year, because Hrocks Jakarta just concluded.
- 27:18Speaker 2: On my Insta stories, when it's Hirocks, I would know
- 27:20Speaker 2: because I follow loads of sports figures that do sports
- 27:23Speaker 2: here in Singapore, and they will always be going, but
- 27:25Speaker 2: this one seems a little bit quiet, so I wonder
- 27:29Speaker 2: about the whole Hirocks hype now. Now, in the world
- 27:32Speaker 2: of sport, it's interesting here in Singapore. I was just
- 27:35Speaker 2: looking at a few of the upcoming runs that we have.
- 27:39Speaker 2: I know this weekend, at least on Sunday, it's the
- 27:42Speaker 2: Disney run.
- 27:44Speaker 2: Over at Sentosa. So if you're doing that, all the
- 27:46Speaker 2: best to you. Have a good one and make sure
- 27:49Speaker 2: you run safe, stay hydrated. And then, just around the corner,
- 27:54Speaker 2: we have the KIPP run that's happening in Singapore. 10 km,
- 27:58Speaker 2: 21 km, maybe even 5 km as well. And then
- 28:01Speaker 2: we have the Garmin Half Marathon. I'll be doing that one.
- 28:04Speaker 2: I think it'll lead up perfectly to the BYD Singapore
- 28:08Speaker 2: International Marathon. Again.
- 28:10Speaker 2: I think slots are still available for the BYD Singapore
- 28:13Speaker 2: International Marathon, and they release how the finisher medal would
- 28:17Speaker 2: look like. So there's like bronze for the 10 km,
- 28:20Speaker 2: silver for the half marathon, and gold for the full marathon,
- 28:25Speaker 2: and the medal spins.
- 28:27Speaker 2: It's uh giving me the John Cena Spinner Belt Championship vibe,
- 28:31Speaker 2: so there you go. Hopefully, before you run, again, I
- 28:36Speaker 2: say this, make sure you get yourself tested. Go for
- 28:39Speaker 2: like a nice ECG reading, make sure your heart's in
- 28:42Speaker 2: good condition and make sure you don't have any underlying
- 28:44Speaker 2: medical conditions. We want you to run safe and hopefully,
- 28:48Speaker 2: fellow runners can support each other during all these runs
- 28:51Speaker 2: that we have here in Singapore.
