- 0:00Speaker 1: Toby and Chili, mornings on demand on 97.1 Wash FM.
- 0:05Speaker 2: Well, good morning. It's Wednesday in the nation's capital, 97.1
- 0:10Speaker 2: Wash FM. Toby and Chili in the morning, you feeling
- 0:12Speaker 2: good today? I sincerely hope so. There's always a reason
- 0:16Speaker 2: to feel good first thing in the morning, and that's
- 0:17Speaker 2: why we talk about it. So why are you feeling
- 0:19Speaker 2: good this morning there, Chili Amar?
- 0:21Speaker 3: I'm feeling good because I thought I had forgotten to
- 0:24Speaker 3: send myself the show stuff that I do the day before.
- 0:28Speaker 2: Uh-huh.
- 0:28Speaker 3: And I was having a panic, like, oh, great, I
- 0:31Speaker 3: got to go through all that research again. No, I remembered.
- 0:34Speaker 3: I guess when you're on autopilot sometimes, you don't have
- 0:37Speaker 3: a clear memory of doing it.
- 0:39Speaker 2: Yes, that happens all the time now. I thought it
- 0:43Speaker 2: was just getting older, Chili.
- 0:45Speaker 3: Well, that might have something to do with it.
- 0:47Speaker 2: You think?
- 0:47Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 0:48Speaker 2: What were we talking about? Exactly.
- 0:51Speaker 3: You may want to get that checked.
- 0:53Speaker 2: Yeah, I know, right? Must be a thing. No, but
- 0:56Speaker 2: you know what? It's very true about autopilot. You just
- 0:59Speaker 2: let it go. And then sometimes you're like, wait a minute, what?
- 1:02Speaker 3: Did I do that?
- 1:03Speaker 5: What day is it again? I totally spaced.
- 1:06Speaker 2: I'm feeling good because, Julie, I have paid attention in
- 1:09Speaker 2: this career to people that can teach you things. And
- 1:14Speaker 2: there are people who don't do what we do, but
- 1:16Speaker 2: they do some behind the scenes stuff. It's very important
- 1:20Speaker 2: to our overall job. I mean, you think we just
- 1:22Speaker 2: turn a microphone on and talk? No, there's a lot
- 1:24Speaker 2: that goes into it. And, you know, when you listen
- 1:27Speaker 2: to those people, we call them engineers. You pick up things,
- 1:31Speaker 2: you learn how to diagnose things on your own, you
- 1:34Speaker 2: learn how to fix problems to a degree on your own.
- 1:37Speaker 2: And I had like a issue with the Wi-Fi and
- 1:40Speaker 2: the internet at my house yesterday. And it's because of
- 1:43Speaker 2: things I learned from paying attention to them that I
- 1:45Speaker 2: was able to fix it, restart it, basically reconfigure it,
- 1:49Speaker 2: reset it up from scratch again. And I wouldn't have
- 1:54Speaker 2: known how to do that had I not just shut
- 1:56Speaker 2: up and listened, you know, when I, when they were
- 1:59Speaker 2: in the studio doing different things to keep the overall
- 2:02Speaker 2: station on the air. So, You learn something from anyone
- 2:05Speaker 2: you encounter, and that feels good. So why are you
- 2:08Speaker 2: feeling good this morning? 866-927-4361 is the number. Give us
- 2:12Speaker 2: a call.
- 2:13Speaker 5: Feel free to share because joy is contagious. In the meantime,
- 2:15Speaker 5: stay there.
- 2:16Speaker 2: The news. Top stories at the top of the hour.
- 2:19Speaker 2: What do we need to know as we get this
- 2:20Speaker 2: Wednesday morning started?
- 2:22Speaker 3: After seven decades on broadcast networks, the Emmys are moving
- 2:27Speaker 3: to a streaming service, and I'll tell you which one
- 2:29Speaker 3: coming up in just a few minutes.
- 2:34Speaker 6: Top stories, top of the hour.
- 2:36Speaker 3: Tennessee inmate Krista Pike is reportedly awake and speaking in
- 2:41Speaker 3: a Nashville hospital after surviving last week's failed execution. She
- 2:45Speaker 3: had been on a ventilator. When the president announced a
- 2:49Speaker 3: $ 3. 7 billion investment in a Baltimore shipyard yesterday, the facility
- 2:54Speaker 3: will make parts for Virginia-class submarines, and he says it's
- 2:58Speaker 3: all part of his push to rebuild the military and
- 3:00Speaker 3: create jobs. A worker is in serious but stable condition
- 3:05Speaker 3: after he was pulled from a collapsed trench outside a
- 3:08Speaker 3: Potomac home yesterday evening. More than 65 rescuers worked almost
- 3:13Speaker 3: four hours breaching the basement wall to reach him. Fairfax
- 3:17Speaker 3: County Public Schools rolling out a tool that will hide
- 3:20Speaker 3: Google's AI-generated search summaries on school-issued laptops. The district says
- 3:26Speaker 3: that it wants students using primary sources. Dozens of Uber drivers,
- 3:32Speaker 3: union workers, and faith leaders rallied outside the Wilson building
- 3:35Speaker 3: against a D.C. bill that would bring Waymo and other
- 3:39Speaker 3: robo-taxis to the city. They say it threatens their paychecks.
- 3:43Speaker 3: The bill would cap each company at 200 cars through
- 3:48Speaker 3: the year 2027. Washington Capitals owner Ted Leons is getting
- 3:51Speaker 3: a major honor from the NHL. He has won the
- 3:55Speaker 3: 2026 Lester Patrick Trophy for outstanding service to hockey in
- 4:00Speaker 3: the U.S., and he'll be receiving it at the Hockey
- 4:02Speaker 3: Hall of Fame induction in D.C. November 30th. And finally,
- 4:06Speaker 3: the Emmys are moving to Prime Video in 2027 under
- 4:11Speaker 3: a six-year deal with Amazon, and that ends seven decades
- 4:15Speaker 3: on broadcast networks. But don't worry, the show will remain
- 4:19Speaker 3: free to watch. Forecast today, lots of sunshine, highs around 75.
- 4:24Speaker 3: Right now, 45 in Centerville.
- 4:26Speaker 2: And that's the news. Top stories at the top of
- 4:28Speaker 2: the hour. If you need more news, you'll get it
- 4:31Speaker 2: in just about an hour, right around 610 with 97.1
- 4:34Speaker 2: Watch FM. In the meantime, let's talk about how you're
- 4:37Speaker 2: doing coming up in just a bit with your morning mindset.
- 4:41Speaker 2: I'm not sure exactly what kind of morning you're having,
- 4:43Speaker 2: but maybe this will help you to have a better one.
- 4:46Speaker 2: Maybe it could help to turn your week around, or
- 4:48Speaker 2: it'll just throw fuel on your already raging fire of
- 4:52Speaker 2: passion that carries you into what you love to do
- 4:55Speaker 2: for this life's work a little bit later on this morning.
- 4:57Speaker 2: That's on the way. Hang out for a few. Toby
- 5:01Speaker 2: and Chili in the morning. It's 97.1 Wash FM, and
- 5:04Speaker 2: now it's time to put this focus squarely on you
- 5:08Speaker 2: this morning.
- 5:09Speaker 3: Specifically your headspace to maybe motivate you, inspire you. So
- 5:13Speaker 3: we find a quote and share it with you for
- 5:15Speaker 3: the morning mindset.
- 5:16Speaker 2: And this is a very, very, very powerful morning mindset
- 5:20Speaker 2: for you this morning. When you think about difficult moments
- 5:24Speaker 2: in life, Sandra Oh says that difficult moments in life
- 5:28Speaker 2: are opportunities to practice how you want to show up,
- 5:32Speaker 2: how you want to lead and who you want to be.
- 5:35Speaker 2: Sandra Oh says that talking about difficult moments. There are
- 5:40Speaker 2: opportunities to practice how you want to show up, how
- 5:44Speaker 2: you want to lead, and who you want to be.
- 5:46Speaker 2: You see, it is in those difficult moments that you
- 5:49Speaker 2: find the person that you want to be in them.
- 5:52Speaker 2: You know, it helps you to make that choice. You
- 5:55Speaker 2: just have to not be afraid to embrace these difficult
- 5:58Speaker 2: moments and the teaching that comes along with them because
- 6:03Speaker 2: they're opportunities more than they are something that can be frustrating.
- 6:08Speaker 2: although at times I'm sure that they can be. And
- 6:11Speaker 2: that's your morning mindset for today. Hopefully it helps you
- 6:14Speaker 2: to have an even better Wednesday as we get into it.
- 6:17Speaker 2: And if you've got something you want to share with
- 6:19Speaker 2: the class, you know where to find us on the
- 6:21Speaker 2: Toby and Chili page at washfm.com. In the meantime, don't
- 6:24Speaker 2: go anywhere because people have an issue with this sort
- 6:29Speaker 2: of a job.
- 6:30Speaker 3: Well, I mean, do you consider influencers or content creators
- 6:35Speaker 3: a real job? We're going to share the results of
- 6:37Speaker 3: a recent survey and what... Most Americans say.
- 6:40Speaker 2: Think of some social media influencer that you've encountered or
- 6:44Speaker 2: maybe somebody in your life has encountered. They follow them religiously.
- 6:47Speaker 2: Toby and Chili in the morning, 97.1 Wash FM. That
- 6:51Speaker 2: being said, do you think that social media influencing is
- 6:54Speaker 2: an actual job?
- 6:56Speaker 3: 52% do not see content creation as a legitimate career. 32% do. Obviously,
- 7:03Speaker 3: younger folks disagree the most. They're the generation that's sort
- 7:06Speaker 3: of flying high with this.
- 7:07Speaker 7: Right.
- 7:08Speaker 3: And 43% of Americans would support their child if they said, mom, dad,
- 7:13Speaker 3: I want to major in content creation or being an influencer.
- 7:17Speaker 2: Interestingly, though, 33% say they would not support their kid
- 7:21Speaker 2: if that was what they came to them and said, hey,
- 7:23Speaker 2: I want to major in this in college.
- 7:26Speaker 3: And don't laugh because Arizona State does offer a degree.
- 7:29Speaker 2: They do.
- 7:29Speaker 3: That's one of the universities that offers a degree in
- 7:31Speaker 3: content creation and being an influencer.
- 7:33Speaker 7: Right.
- 7:34Speaker 3: What is your opinion? First, let me ask you, do
- 7:36Speaker 3: you think it's a real job? Yeah, it's a lot
- 7:38Speaker 3: of work. Yeah, it's a lot of work. I would
- 7:40Speaker 3: agree with you. I think it is a job. I
- 7:42Speaker 3: know why people say it's not a real job because, well,
- 7:44Speaker 3: it's not like you went to school for it. Well, OK,
- 7:47Speaker 3: but there are a lot of things in life that
- 7:48Speaker 3: we teach ourselves or that we become really good at.
- 7:51Speaker 3: I think if you can turn anything into a profit,
- 7:53Speaker 3: that equals job.
- 7:54Speaker 2: Even if it is you shaking your booty in a
- 7:58Speaker 2: bikini on the Internet on somebody else's yacht.
- 8:00Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 8:01Speaker 3: Now, if my son, who's about to be 13 in
- 8:04Speaker 3: a few years, said, you know, I really want to
- 8:06Speaker 3: pursue content creation or being an influencer. On the one hand,
- 8:09Speaker 3: of course, I want to support him, but I'd have
- 8:10Speaker 3: to be realistic. By then, you know, there's going to
- 8:13Speaker 3: be even more out there. The competition is going to
- 8:15Speaker 3: be even more than it is now. I'd have to
- 8:17Speaker 3: be like, dude, it's going to be really tough to
- 8:20Speaker 3: truly make it. I would give maybe a year or
- 8:22Speaker 3: two to try it. And if it doesn't work, fail
- 8:24Speaker 3: fast and move on.
- 8:25Speaker 2: And have a backup plan.
- 8:26Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 8:26Speaker 2: Because here's the thing. I do know about all of
- 8:29Speaker 2: this technology-driven social media influencing stuff. What it pays maybe
- 8:33Speaker 2: now won't be what it pays in five years. If
- 8:36Speaker 2: it was that easy, everybody would do it. You can
- 8:39Speaker 2: read more of the Toby and Chili page at washfm.com.
- 8:42Speaker 2: In the meantime, influence on. Hang out for a few.
- 8:45Speaker 2: Top stories at the top of the hour, right around 6, 10.
- 8:48Speaker 2: What's going on?
- 8:49Speaker 3: Are you planning on traveling for the holidays? Well, Google
- 8:52Speaker 3: has released the best time to book your airfare for
- 8:56Speaker 3: Thanksgiving and Christmas.
- 8:58Speaker 2: If you get it, $ 1, 000, you could put it toward vacation.
- 9:02Speaker 2: Maybe not the whole vacation, but enough to click the
- 9:05Speaker 2: button that says book it.
- 9:09Speaker 5: 97.1 Wash FM. We're Toby and Chili in the morning.
- 9:11Speaker 2: The list of the things you could do with an
- 9:13Speaker 2: extra grand virtually endless. And you have a chance to
- 9:17Speaker 2: get it today right here with 97.1 Wash FM.
- 9:20Speaker 3: It's our $ 1, 000 Workday Payday. That first keyword is coming
- 9:24Speaker 3: up right around 9, 10 this morning. And when you
- 9:26Speaker 3: hear it, make sure you enter it at washfm.com.
- 9:29Speaker 2: Thanks for waking up with Toby and Chili in the morning.
- 9:33Speaker 6: 97.1 WASHFM, Washington.
- 9:36Speaker 1: An iHeartRadio station. Coming up on Top Stories, top of
- 9:39Speaker 1: the hour.
- 9:40Speaker 3: Tennessee inmate Krista Pike, who survived an attempt to execute
- 9:44Speaker 3: her last week, is reportedly conscious and speaking. We've got
- 9:48Speaker 3: the latest on that story and others on the way.
- 9:51Speaker 3: With Toby and Chili in the morning on 97.1 Wash FM.
- 9:57Speaker 6: Top stories, top of the hour.
- 10:00Speaker 3: An FBI whistleblower says the Justice Department pushed the Bureau
- 10:04Speaker 3: to investigate LA protesters who rallied against ICE outside federal buildings.
- 10:09Speaker 3: In a complaint to the Senate Judiciary Committee, the whistleblower
- 10:12Speaker 3: says that violated protesters' constitutional rights and FBI policy. Tennessee
- 10:19Speaker 3: inmate Krista Pike, who survived an attempt to execute her
- 10:23Speaker 3: last week, is reportedly conscious and speaking in the hospital.
- 10:27Speaker 3: They say that she is or rather she still faces
- 10:30Speaker 3: a very long recovery. A worker is recovering after a
- 10:34Speaker 3: trench collapsed on him yesterday evening in Potomac. Crews spent
- 10:38Speaker 3: several hours digging him out of the trench that he
- 10:42Speaker 3: was waterproofing and he is in serious but stable condition.
- 10:46Speaker 3: Four teenagers, ages 13 and 14, are charged in a
- 10:50Speaker 3: string of Northeast D.C. burglaries, including one with an attempted
- 10:55Speaker 3: sexual assault. Police say surveillance photos and tips from the
- 10:59Speaker 3: public led to the arrests. A Spotsylvania County school paraeducator
- 11:03Speaker 3: is accused of assaulting a 7-year-old student at Wilderness Elementary.
- 11:08Speaker 3: Deputies say 43-year-old Kimberly Smith was seen shoving the child
- 11:12Speaker 3: to the ground back in August and was arrested October 1st.
- 11:16Speaker 3: And finally, are you planning to travel for the holidays? Well,
- 11:19Speaker 3: Google says the cheapest Thanksgiving fares show up about 34
- 11:24Speaker 3: days before you fly. And Christmas deals now hit around
- 11:29Speaker 3: 56 days out. Flying Monday and returning on a Tuesday
- 11:33Speaker 3: or Wednesday? Saves you about 14% over weekend trips. Forecast today,
- 11:38Speaker 3: it's going to be beautiful. Lots of sunshine. A bit
- 11:41Speaker 3: warmer than yesterday. Highs around 75. Right now, though, 45
- 11:45Speaker 3: in Laurel.
- 11:46Speaker 2: You get your news. Top stories at the top of
- 11:48Speaker 2: the hour with Toby and Chili in the morning at
- 11:51Speaker 2: 97.1 Wash FM. Next news right around 7, 10 this morning.
- 11:55Speaker 2: In just a minute, it's Andrea. From Fairfax has a
- 11:59Speaker 2: little bit of a situation she wants to talk with
- 12:01Speaker 2: us about this morning. And when I say us, I
- 12:04Speaker 2: mean all of us, all five of us. Her hubs
- 12:08Speaker 2: is saying that they're wasting money on something. And that
- 12:12Speaker 2: it's something that the kid is not very good at.
- 12:16Speaker 2: Find out what her dilemma is and we'll see if
- 12:20Speaker 2: we can help in a few. Toby and Chili in
- 12:23Speaker 2: the morning. It's 97.1 Wash FM. One of the great
- 12:26Speaker 2: things about the job here with Toby and Chili in
- 12:29Speaker 2: the morning is that sometimes, just sometimes, you ask us
- 12:31Speaker 2: for advice about the things you're going through. These little
- 12:34Speaker 2: dilemmas that come up from time to time in life.
- 12:36Speaker 2: We've all been there and we've all needed a little help.
- 12:38Speaker 2: Thanks so much for listening in Fairfax, Andrea. So what's
- 12:42Speaker 2: this dilemma you're having in your family?
- 12:44Speaker 8: My daughter, I love I obviously love her with every
- 12:49Speaker 8: fiber of my being, but she's not that talented vocally.
- 12:53Speaker 8: And she is loving singing lessons, but they're so expensive.
- 12:57Speaker 8: And my husband really wants to kind of pull the
- 12:59Speaker 8: plug on it. And I don't know what to do.
- 13:02Speaker 8: I feel like I'm between a rock and a hard
- 13:04Speaker 8: place and I don't want to break her heart.
- 13:06Speaker 2: Well, you are between a rock and a really, really,
- 13:09Speaker 2: really hard place.
- 13:11Speaker 3: And you're trying to be honest about the situation and
- 13:13Speaker 3: you don't see a future in her singing. So why
- 13:16Speaker 3: invest all that money?
- 13:19Speaker 2: This is like the parenting no-win situation.
- 13:21Speaker 8: Yeah, I mean, that's sort of exactly how I feel.
- 13:24Speaker 3: As parents, we are there to support our kids' passions,
- 13:27Speaker 3: but we also have to be very honest with some feedback. No,
- 13:33Speaker 3: I'm kidding. Don't break her heart. I say if you
- 13:35Speaker 3: can still keep paying, keep going. I think it'll eventually
- 13:39Speaker 3: resolve itself when your daughter probably realizes maybe she's not
- 13:43Speaker 3: up to par.
- 13:44Speaker 2: It's tough love. Sometimes you have to have these rough conversations.
- 13:47Speaker 3: Oh, you are not.
- 13:48Speaker 2: No, I'm serious. But that's exactly what I did with
- 13:51Speaker 2: my daughter, Kyla. She was not the most rhythmically adept
- 13:55Speaker 2: dancer in dance class.
- 13:58Speaker 5: Now, I didn't slam her.
- 13:59Speaker 2: I didn't constantly bring up that maybe she wasn't as
- 14:02Speaker 2: good as some others who had been dancing since, I
- 14:05Speaker 2: don't know, they came out of the womb. But I
- 14:07Speaker 2: was pretty clear that, hey, if this is not something
- 14:10Speaker 2: you're good at, find what it is that you're passionate about.
- 14:14Speaker 2: but i tried not to interrupt her fun hopefully uh
- 14:17Speaker 2: we're better for it and hopefully some of those conversations
- 14:19Speaker 2: rubbed off and uh well i guess we'll see what
- 14:23Speaker 2: we'll see as life continues to unfold right one could
- 14:26Speaker 2: hope 866-927-4361 is the number if you've got some advice
- 14:31Speaker 2: for andrea from fairfax what should she do how should
- 14:35Speaker 2: she handle it the kid's not that great at singing
- 14:38Speaker 2: Do they keep paying for the singing lessons, or do
- 14:41Speaker 2: they have a tough conversation? Andrea, we'll take the temperature
- 14:45Speaker 2: of the classroom this morning.
- 14:47Speaker 9: Thanks.
- 14:47Speaker 2: Because it does take a village to get through these things,
- 14:50Speaker 2: and that's just what we'll do. If you were listening
- 14:53Speaker 2: to Toby and Chili in the morning here on 97.1
- 14:56Speaker 2: Wash FM a bit ago, you know we were talking
- 14:58Speaker 2: to Andrea from Fairfax about something she's going through with
- 15:03Speaker 2: her family, specifically her daughter.
- 15:06Speaker 3: Well, her husband wants to stop paying for their daughter's
- 15:08Speaker 3: singing lessons because, well, she's not that great of a
- 15:11Speaker 3: singer and it's starting to get expensive. So now Andrea
- 15:14Speaker 3: is wondering, does she tell her daughter no more singing
- 15:17Speaker 3: lessons or keep supporting her?
- 15:18Speaker 2: Well, you might have some thoughts at 866-927-4361. If so,
- 15:23Speaker 2: give us a call right now or tap the talkback
- 15:25Speaker 2: microphone if you're listening to us on your iHeart app
- 15:28Speaker 2: in Silver Spring. Dan, what's on your mind?
- 15:31Speaker 9: Sometimes it's not great to encourage something that is a
- 15:34Speaker 9: dead end, but maybe they could find something else that
- 15:37Speaker 9: would be cheaper, that would be fun too.
- 15:40Speaker 3: What, you mean something different like pickleball?
- 15:42Speaker 9: There you go.
- 15:44Speaker 2: Well, it is important to find what it is that
- 15:46Speaker 2: you love to do, especially if it takes less money
- 15:50Speaker 2: out of your pocket.
- 15:51Speaker 9: Yeah, exactly. Go cheaper and maybe find something that you
- 15:54Speaker 9: actually like.
- 15:55Speaker 3: Sounds like you're speaking from experience.
- 15:58Speaker 9: My parents made me take piano lessons when i was
- 16:00Speaker 9: a kid it wasn't fun i had some fun to
- 16:02Speaker 9: be forced to do.
- 16:02Speaker 2: Something very sage advice this morning dan and silver spring
- 16:07Speaker 2: thank you for jumping in 866-927-4361 if you've got thoughts
- 16:13Speaker 2: you would like to share with class navy yard jamie.
- 16:17Speaker 9: Oh yikes you know what don't don't kill her vibe
- 16:20Speaker 9: why not this might change everything she wants to try
- 16:23Speaker 9: in the future try.
- 16:24Speaker 2: To make work parents thank you jamie we'll do our
- 16:27Speaker 2: best to do so now back to andrea and fairfax
- 16:31Speaker 2: first thank you for hanging on as we listened to
- 16:35Speaker 2: these people and their thoughts sounds to me like you've
- 16:38Speaker 2: got a tough conversation coming up but you've got to
- 16:41Speaker 2: be supportive at the same.
- 16:43Speaker 8: Time all right understood noted that's where my heart was
- 16:46Speaker 8: leading me but you know my husband like to think
- 16:49Speaker 8: logically and, you know, always worried about the finances. Money
- 16:53Speaker 8: comes and goes, though.
- 16:54Speaker 3: I think we'll be fine. I agree with that. Thanks
- 16:57Speaker 3: so much for calling.
- 16:58Speaker 5: I hope so.
- 16:59Speaker 2: Hope you're right, because I would not want you, ma'am,
- 17:01Speaker 2: to have to sit there and listen to the sounds
- 17:04Speaker 2: of cats shrieking, which is actually just your daughter singing.
- 17:10Speaker 3: How'd you know?
- 17:12Speaker 2: Oh, I'm just clairvoyant like that. Tilby and Chili in

- 17:49Speaker 3: Right around 7.10, we're going to ask our nearly impossible question.
- 17:52Speaker 3: And if you get it right, you're going to the
- 17:54Speaker 3: show October 17th.
- 17:55Speaker 2: Here comes Mariah.
- 17:57Speaker 6: 97.1 WASH-FM, Washington.
- 18:01Speaker 1: An iHeartRadio station. Coming up on Top Stories, top of
- 18:05Speaker 1: the hour.
- 18:05Speaker 3: The president says he'll speak with Vladimir Putin about reports
- 18:09Speaker 3: of possible plague outbreak in Russia. We've got the latest
- 18:13Speaker 3: on that story and others on the way. With Toby
- 18:17Speaker 3: and Chili in the morning on 97.1 WASH-FM.
- 18:23Speaker 6: Top stories, top of the hour.
- 18:26Speaker 3: The president says he'll speak with Vladimir Putin about reports
- 18:29Speaker 3: of a possible plague outbreak in Russia and hopes to
- 18:33Speaker 3: have an update later today. Now, Russia first said a
- 18:36Speaker 3: woman at an anti-plague research institute died of the disease
- 18:40Speaker 3: and then blamed pneumonia. An FBI whistleblower says the Justice
- 18:45Speaker 3: Department pushed the bureau to investigate L.A. protesters who rallied
- 18:50Speaker 3: against ICE outside federal buildings. The complaint to the Senate
- 18:54Speaker 3: Judiciary Committee says that violated their constitutional rights and FBI policy.
- 19:01Speaker 3: A worker is in serious but stable condition after he
- 19:04Speaker 3: was pulled from a collapsed trench outside a Potomac home

- 19:17Speaker 3: going to be refunding residents who were wrongly hit with
- 19:20Speaker 3: late fees on personal property taxes. A system glitch started
- 19:25Speaker 3: charging penalties at 8 p.m. instead of midnight on deadline day.
- 19:29Speaker 3: The county says those taxpayers will get automatic refunds. Fairfax
- 19:33Speaker 3: County Public Schools is ruling out a tool that will
- 19:36Speaker 3: hide Google's AI-generated search summaries on school-issued laptops. The district
- 19:42Speaker 3: says that it wants students using primary sources. And according
- 19:46Speaker 3: to a recent survey, about two-thirds of U.S. students could
- 19:51Speaker 3: not comfortably afford a surprise $ 500 car repair. Many would
- 19:56Speaker 3: have to lean on a credit card or put the
- 19:59Speaker 3: fix off, and more than half have already skipped recommended
- 20:03Speaker 3: maintenance this year. Forecast for today, it's going to be beautiful.
- 20:07Speaker 3: Lots of sunshine, a bit warmer than yesterday. Highs around 75.
- 20:10Speaker 3: Right now, 46 in Lorton.
- 20:14Speaker 6: Toby and Chili's Nearly Impossible Question.
- 20:16Speaker 2: What is the question this morning?
- 20:17Speaker 3: 31% of couples say they've argued about this more than
- 20:23Speaker 3: anything else.
- 20:23Speaker 2: What is it? 866-927-4361. Answer correctly. You're going to go
- 20:29Speaker 2: see Chris Brown and Usher, M & T Bank Stadium,
- 20:32Speaker 2: October 17th.
- 20:33Speaker 5: Thank you, Live Nation. The question again.
- 20:35Speaker 3: 31% of couples say they have argued about this more
- 20:39Speaker 3: than anything else. What is it?
- 20:42Speaker 2: Call now.
- 20:42Speaker 9: 866-927-4361.
- 20:42Speaker 2: Answer right. Tickets.
- 20:43Speaker 3: Usher.
- 20:48Speaker 2: Chris Brown, yours.
- 20:51Speaker 6: Toby and Chili's Nearly Impossible Questions.
- 20:53Speaker 2: One more time, loud as you can. How does that
- 20:55Speaker 2: question go?
- 20:56Speaker 3: 31% of couples say they've argued about this more than
- 21:00Speaker 3: anything else.
- 21:01Speaker 2: What is it? Usher, Chris Brown, M & T Bank Stadium,

- 21:08Speaker 2: Who day is and where day from?
- 21:10Speaker 6: Gatorsburg, Maryland.
- 21:12Speaker 3: It's Diana.
- 21:13Speaker 2: Welcome back, Diana. I recognize your voice. Thank you for calling.
- 21:18Speaker 2: How have you been?
- 21:19Speaker 9: Good.
- 21:19Speaker 7: Fine, thank you.
- 21:21Speaker 2: You've got the question for the tickets to see Usher
- 21:23Speaker 2: and Chris Brown. Your guess is... Money.
- 21:28Speaker 3: Is that something you've argued with a partner about in
- 21:30Speaker 3: the past or maybe even now?
- 21:32Speaker 7: Not really, but I know other people have.
- 21:36Speaker 5: Why do you think that that is?
- 21:37Speaker 7: Oh, I think sometimes the man likes to be in control,
- 21:42Speaker 7: thinking the wife is spending too much and thinks she shouldn't.
- 21:46Speaker 2: I say if mama ain't happy, ain't nobody happy. You
- 21:49Speaker 2: do what you can for mama. Don't ask no questions.
- 21:54Speaker 3: Diana, 31% of couples say they have argued about money
- 22:00Speaker 3: more than anything else, which means you are correct.
- 22:04Speaker 2: Congratulations.
- 22:05Speaker 8: Thank you.
- 22:07Speaker 2: Usher, Chris Brown, M & T Bank Stadium, October 17th.
- 22:11Speaker 2: Thanks to Live Nation. These tickets are yours. No arguments here.

- 22:17Speaker 2: do you? You like these tickets?
- 22:19Speaker 6: Yes, thank you.
- 22:20Speaker 5: Well, you enjoy the show.
- 22:21Speaker 2: Congratulations on the win with your nearly impossible question today.
- 22:24Speaker 2: Stay right there so we can get them to you, okay?
- 22:27Speaker 3: Okay, thank you.
- 22:28Speaker 2: And you could be just like her with tickets to
- 22:30Speaker 2: see Usher and Chris Brown tomorrow morning right after Top
- 22:33Speaker 2: Stories at the top of the hour around 7-10 with
- 22:36Speaker 2: another round of your nearly impossible question. Where Toby and
- 22:40Speaker 2: Chilly in the morning hang out for a few.
- 22:42Speaker 3: We've got a really interesting talkback message left by Steve saying,
- 22:46Speaker 3: Who is asking us about our thoughts on AI and
- 22:49Speaker 3: it potentially destroying the civilization as we know it.
- 22:54Speaker 2: No matter when the question hits you, we're always listening
- 22:58Speaker 2: via talk back here at 97.1 Wash FM with Toby
- 23:01Speaker 2: and Chili in the morning. And you can leave us
- 23:02Speaker 2: a message at any time of the day or night.
- 23:05Speaker 2: We don't have to be talking to you in order
- 23:08Speaker 2: for you to leave us that message, much like Steve
- 23:11Speaker 2: from Manassas did. It's 97.1 Wash FM. Toby and Chili
- 23:15Speaker 2: in the morning. Let's give this a listen, Chili. Hey, guys.
- 23:18Speaker 7: This is Steve.
- 23:19Speaker 2: I listen to you guys every morning, and I'm a
- 23:21Speaker 2: big fan.
- 23:22Speaker 4: And I have a question for you guys.
- 23:23Speaker 9: I have a debate about A.I.
- 23:26Speaker 4: So everyone keeps saying that in about.
- 23:29Speaker 5: 10 years or so, AI is going to.
- 23:30Speaker 4: Basically kill us and kill our society. And I basically
- 23:35Speaker 4: wanted to get your opinion and see what you guys think.
- 23:38Speaker 4: I mean, can't we just pull the plug?
- 23:40Speaker 6: That's my question.
- 23:40Speaker 7: Can't we just....
- 23:43Speaker 3: End it and then not even bother with it anymore
- 23:45Speaker 3: or or what.
- 23:46Speaker 4: Do you guys think i actually can't wait to see
- 23:48Speaker 4: what people.
- 23:49Speaker 3: Say about this have.
- 23:50Speaker 10: A great day i love the show well steve it's
- 23:53Speaker 10: not as easy as unplugging you see it's too late
- 23:55Speaker 10: to undo what's been done that's right however and i
- 23:59Speaker 10: think you'll agree with me toby that you and i
- 24:01Speaker 10: are both for having some sort of guardrails in place
- 24:04Speaker 10: so that it doesn't get out of hand and cause what.
- 24:08Speaker 3: You said which is the end of what society is Yes.
- 24:12Speaker 2: The end of civilization as we know it. Yes, once
- 24:14Speaker 2: it becomes sentient, we've got problems. That's being dramatic. But
- 24:18Speaker 2: the truth is that AI is very helpful. And I
- 24:21Speaker 2: am aware AI, if left unchecked, can be problematic. But
- 24:27Speaker 2: just because you have technology that has the potential for
- 24:30Speaker 2: bad doesn't mean that everybody will use it for bad things.
- 24:33Speaker 2: I think there's a lot of good that can come
- 24:35Speaker 2: from it. For people like us, it's just better than
- 24:38Speaker 2: Google in a lot of ways because it gives you
- 24:40Speaker 2: access to even more information.
- 24:43Speaker 3: I think people have the biggest problem with generative AI
- 24:46Speaker 3: because that does the most quote unquote damage. So that's
- 24:49Speaker 3: just how we feel.
- 24:51Speaker 2: 866-927-4361 is the number. Steve from Anastas leaving us a
- 24:56Speaker 2: talkback message. He was listening on his iHeart app to us.
- 24:59Speaker 2: He wants to know what you think about AI. Is
- 25:03Speaker 2: it time to pause it or should we embrace it
- 25:06Speaker 2: because it's the future? What say you about Steve's query?
- 25:10Speaker 2: Let's talk. In the meantime, hang till right around 8, 10.
- 25:14Speaker 2: We'll get you top stories at the top of the hour.

- 26:25Speaker 3: to investigate L.A. protesters who rallied against ICE outside federal buildings.

- 27:23Speaker 3: and even faith leaders rallied outside the Wilson building against
- 27:26Speaker 3: a D.C. bill that would bring Waymo and other robo-taxis
- 27:30Speaker 3: to the city. They say that it threatens their paychecks.
- 27:34Speaker 3: IKEA is closing three D.C. area plan and order stores.
- 27:39Speaker 3: The Georgetown location will close October 18th, the Fairfax one
- 27:43Speaker 3: November 30th, annapolis on october 31st ikea says that it's
- 27:48Speaker 3: shifting investments toward delivery pickup and online shopping and a
- 27:52Speaker 3: new report ranks the most stressful airports in the country

- 28:20Speaker 2: of the hour with 97.1 Wash FM. Coming back in
- 28:23Speaker 2: just a few minutes here with Toby and Chili in
- 28:25Speaker 2: the morning, we'll get into the conversation about AI. You've
- 28:29Speaker 2: got thoughts?
- 28:30Speaker 9: 866-927-4361.
- 28:31Speaker 2: Time to kill it. Press pause on it. Embrace it
- 28:38Speaker 2: because it's the future. You've no doubt got an opinion
- 28:41Speaker 2: and we want to hear it. Out in Manassas, Steve
- 28:45Speaker 2: was listening to us here at 97.1. Wash FM left
- 28:49Speaker 2: us a talkback message because he was listening on his
- 28:51Speaker 2: iHeart app. We're totally chilling in the morning at 97.1
- 28:54Speaker 2: Wash FM and he wants to know what we think
- 28:57Speaker 2: about AI. Is it time to pause it, kill it,
- 29:00Speaker 2: embrace it because it is the future?
- 29:03Speaker 3: And Laurel, Tasha, you're part of the show. What do
- 29:05Speaker 3: you think?
- 29:06Speaker 9: Yeah, I think we should pull the plug because it's
- 29:09Speaker 9: just getting real crazy.
- 29:10Speaker 10: Like I'm looking at stuff.
- 29:11Speaker 2: I'm thinking it's.
- 29:12Speaker 3: Real and it's not.
- 29:14Speaker 2: It's a whole AI character.
- 29:16Speaker 3: And that's freaking me out.
- 29:17Speaker 2: Put that in the trash.
- 29:18Speaker 3: Well, thanks so much for sharing your thoughts. But I
- 29:21Speaker 3: do agree with her in saying that people can't even
- 29:24Speaker 3: tell the difference between what's real and what's AI.
- 29:26Speaker 2: And that is very problematic. They're scary, scary to some people.
- 29:31Speaker 2: Is it scary to you, Jimmy and Frederick?
- 29:35Speaker 9: At this point with AI, I'm not going to like
- 29:38Speaker 9: relearn how to write. everything and how to do all
- 29:41Speaker 9: my emails and stuff. I can't go back at this point.
- 29:44Speaker 3: Oh, you're used to the AI summarizing those emails for you.
- 29:49Speaker 5: See, you've given in. That's how it starts.
- 29:52Speaker 2: Oh yeah, we're screwed.
- 29:53Speaker 9: But otherwise, you know, until then, I'm not trying to,
- 29:56Speaker 9: you know, write my own emails.
- 29:58Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, why would you want to keep using
- 30:00Speaker 3: your brain?
- 30:01Speaker 2: Excellent point.
- 30:02Speaker 3: Oh, God.
- 30:03Speaker 2: Breein Falls Church.
- 30:05Speaker 3: Time to kill AI. Whoa. What's your biggest beef with it?
- 30:09Speaker 10: I think it's pointless and it's making us less smart, lazy.
- 30:13Speaker 10: I think we need to be using our bodies, using
- 30:16Speaker 10: our minds.
- 30:16Speaker 3: It's just not good for us progressing as.
- 30:19Speaker 2: A species, you know?
- 30:20Speaker 3: So you think it's a slippery slope. If we keep
- 30:22Speaker 3: doing this, we're not going to be able to think
- 30:24Speaker 3: for ourselves. Bring back thinking.
- 30:26Speaker 2: Thinking it's so old-fashioned it's kind of like you know
- 30:29Speaker 2: writing something by hand yeah.
- 30:31Speaker 3: Why put pen to paper when you can ask a robot.
- 30:34Speaker 6: I'm sorry dave i'm afraid i can't do that.
- 30:39Speaker 2: It is the season for haunts. Over two hours commercial
