- 0:00Speaker 1: Back with Gino as we get set for Wednesday night,
- 0:03Speaker 1: and it will be a very special night as a
- 0:05Speaker 1: first of all, they celebrate forty years of Gino Orima
- 0:09Speaker 1: and Chris Daly and then on top of that, a
- 0:11Speaker 1: chance to become the all time leading coaching wins all
- 0:15Speaker 1: time either men's or women's college basketball.
- 0:18Speaker 2: But first, let's start with the celebration, Gino.
- 0:20Speaker 1: I mean, I know you're not big on this whole thing,
- 0:22Speaker 1: but I think it's like sixty five a lum's coming
- 0:25Speaker 1: back to celebrate with. You get a chance to connect
- 0:28Speaker 1: with some old friends. That should be a lot of fun,
- 0:30Speaker 1: because it always is when they come back.
- 0:34Speaker 3: Oh yeah, it's always fantastic when you know our former
- 0:37Speaker 3: players are back, and so many of them, you know,
- 0:42Speaker 3: I have said they're going to come, and you know,
- 0:45Speaker 3: some wish they could come, but they're playing over in
- 0:47Speaker 3: Europe or they're coaching in the US in college, and
- 0:52Speaker 3: you know, their schedule with games and everything doesn't allow it.
- 0:57Speaker 3: But anytime we can get our players on campus, our
- 1:02Speaker 3: former players, I get a big kick out of that,
- 1:05Speaker 3: and I know they do as well. And I know
- 1:09Speaker 3: our players enjoy having them there. So it's gonna be
- 1:13Speaker 3: an exciting night for everybody. I'm looking forward.
- 1:16Speaker 2: To it as am I. I catching up with some old friends.
- 1:19Speaker 1: You know, we always talk about the great, great players
- 1:22Speaker 1: that you've had, and I think we've even mentioned this
- 1:25Speaker 1: a couple of times, you know, but there's some people, though,
- 1:27Speaker 1: that you would call glue gals over the years. I
- 1:30Speaker 1: think if Kelly Ferris as one of those who really
- 1:33Speaker 1: blossom from freshman the senior year, became a leader, Asia
- 1:37Speaker 1: seemed to be like that, and I can think of
- 1:40Speaker 1: a few others. But you know, while you have all
- 1:42Speaker 1: those all Americans, you don't win these championships without some
- 1:45Speaker 1: young ladies doing a lot of grunt work. And even
- 1:47Speaker 1: the good ones did, but still those underappreciated players that
- 1:51Speaker 1: always did the grunt work, they help get you through
- 1:53Speaker 1: these things.
- 1:56Speaker 4: Oh.
- 1:56Speaker 3: Absolutely, you know every team is, you know, like you
- 2:02Speaker 3: if you're if you're traveling, you know you're a traveling
- 2:05Speaker 3: rock band.
- 2:06Speaker 4: You know, you you you you.
- 2:08Speaker 3: Have you have to have a lot of people to
- 2:11Speaker 3: do a lot of the work behind the scenes to
- 2:15Speaker 3: make it all happen.
- 2:16Speaker 4: And you're on the court.
- 2:19Speaker 3: Uh yeah, all those superstars that are that are on
- 2:24Speaker 3: that wall of course, you know, they were the they
- 2:29Speaker 3: were the lead singers. Yeah, they were the stars. But
- 2:33Speaker 3: as you mentioned, you know, uh, going all the way back,
- 2:37Speaker 3: you know, to.
- 2:38Speaker 4: The beginning with.
- 2:41Speaker 3: You know, Megan Pattison and Wendy Davis and Debbie Bear
- 2:45Speaker 3: and Jamall Elliott.
- 2:47Speaker 4: You know it was one of those players.
- 2:49Speaker 2: Uh.
- 2:50Speaker 3: Carlo Barrubi was one of those players you know, you
- 2:55Speaker 3: keep going for it. Jessica Moore was one of those players.
- 2:58Speaker 3: Ria Colin was one of those players. You're never going
- 3:00Speaker 3: to see them up on the wall. But without them,
- 3:05Speaker 3: it would have been very difficult for those teams to
- 3:09Speaker 3: win championships. And that's I think a big, big part
- 3:14Speaker 3: of our success is the ability to to people to
- 3:20Speaker 3: feel like they're important, to feel like they they're a
- 3:23Speaker 3: big part of what we're doing. And they don't have
- 3:28Speaker 3: to be All Americans. And these were high school all
- 3:31Speaker 3: Americans that came to Yukon that are willing to give.
- 3:34Speaker 4: Up some things for the bigger you know, for the
- 3:37Speaker 4: bigger prize at the end.
- 3:39Speaker 1: Yeah, and also off the court too, And I know
- 3:41Speaker 1: you gave them props last week. I mean, you and
- 3:44Speaker 1: CD have been together for forty seasons. Sarah Darris has
- 3:47Speaker 1: been with you what since nineteen ninety five as your
- 3:49Speaker 1: director of basketball basketball operations, and you basically summed it
- 3:53Speaker 1: up by saying, they do so much for you that
- 3:56Speaker 1: you can basically be like a kid and just go
- 3:58Speaker 1: out and run out and play and just worry about
- 4:00Speaker 1: basketball most of the time.
- 4:02Speaker 4: Oh, it's exactly right.
- 4:04Speaker 3: I mean, uh, it's amazing how much they do. It's uh,
- 4:10Speaker 3: it's truly incredible.
- 4:12Speaker 1: Uh.
- 4:14Speaker 3: Their their their commitment to the program, their passion for
- 4:19Speaker 3: for doing it right, and uh they want to win
- 4:24Speaker 3: and they want us to be successful. And uh yeah,
- 4:29Speaker 3: it certainly takes a big load off. I played of
- 4:34Speaker 3: what I don't have to worry about, so I can
- 4:38Speaker 3: keep my focus on what I what I like to do,
- 4:41Speaker 3: and that's, you know, try to help my players get
- 4:44Speaker 3: get better and try to help our team get better
- 4:46Speaker 3: and figure out different ways to do that.
- 4:49Speaker 1: You know, next week it's off to the Bahamas. Well,
- 4:51Speaker 1: the team lea's on Friday and you're there for next week.
- 4:54Speaker 1: It's a good time to get away. You got a
- 4:56Speaker 1: chance to play some quality teams like Oregon State and
- 4:59Speaker 1: neither Old.
- 5:00Speaker 2: Miss or BC on the Wednesday of next week. But
- 5:05Speaker 2: is this.
- 5:05Speaker 1: Something that we're seeing an end of at least from
- 5:08Speaker 1: the yukon standpoint. Talking to Dan and we'll hear it
- 5:11Speaker 1: in the next hour. It seems like mtaser are becoming
- 5:15Speaker 1: a less and less thing for the men's team. Is
- 5:17Speaker 1: that the same for the women's team? Or are you
- 5:19Speaker 1: going to continue to do stuff like this.
- 5:22Speaker 4: I think it's all circumstantial, you know.
- 5:24Speaker 3: I think it's it depends on what what it entails.
- 5:32Speaker 3: I think in this new era of revenue sharing that's
- 5:36Speaker 3: coming up, I think everyone's concerned with, you know, where
- 5:42Speaker 3: do we get more how do we get more money
- 5:45Speaker 3: to pass that on to the players as revenue sharing,
- 5:50Speaker 3: which I think in one of two ways, you know,
- 5:54Speaker 3: more home games, which would be less of those mtes
- 6:00Speaker 3: of more and more games, and or if you go
- 6:04Speaker 3: to these empties, there's got to be a huge payout
- 6:08Speaker 3: for you to participate so that it.
- 6:11Speaker 4: Makes it worth your while.
- 6:14Speaker 3: And there are a lot of people willing to pay
- 6:16Speaker 3: a lot of money to have us play in their events.
- 6:21Speaker 3: So I think that's going to be the driver. You know,
- 6:24Speaker 3: if we can.
- 6:27Speaker 4: If we can play you know, some quality.
- 6:30Speaker 3: Teams on a neutral court and still be compensated the
- 6:35Speaker 3: way we feel like we need to be because of
- 6:37Speaker 3: who we are, our brand and what we add. Then
- 6:42Speaker 3: you know, we we we make those decisions as we
- 6:46Speaker 3: go along.
- 6:47Speaker 1: Do you know you had a national letter of intent
- 6:49Speaker 1: day last week? You signed a two young ladies. Tell
- 6:52Speaker 1: me about these two young ladies and what they're capable of?
- 6:58Speaker 3: Well, we'll see, but uh, you know, I think we
- 7:02Speaker 3: we we certainly got bigger because Andy's about sixty six
- 7:07Speaker 3: right now and and she, uh, she's a kid that
- 7:13Speaker 3: loves to play defense, loves to rebound, loves to run
- 7:16Speaker 3: the floor.
- 7:17Speaker 4: Uh.
- 7:18Speaker 3: And we'll have some catchup to do on the offensive ent, but.
- 7:22Speaker 4: She's young and she she's gonna learn. But an incredible kid.
- 7:29Speaker 3: And uh at Calise.
- 7:32Speaker 4: I think is.
- 7:33Speaker 3: Uh exceptionally talented guard who you know we've been we've
- 7:42Speaker 3: been recruiting her for well since freshman year in high school.
- 7:48Speaker 3: And she's she's a big guard.
- 7:52Speaker 4: She's athletic.
- 7:54Speaker 3: She she can put pressure on the on the ball defensively.
- 7:59Speaker 3: Uh uh, she can get to the rim anytime she wants.
- 8:05Speaker 3: So you know, we we we've added some things that
- 8:08Speaker 3: we are missing and uh, you know we're not We're
- 8:14Speaker 3: not finish yet, you know, we h you know, block
- 8:22Speaker 3: up the you know, our player that we got a
- 8:26Speaker 3: commitment from who's.
- 8:30Speaker 4: Playing in Italy right now.
- 8:32Speaker 3: Uh.
- 8:32Speaker 4: It's a six y two forward that.
- 8:38Speaker 3: Really really really really loves to play defense and really
- 8:42Speaker 3: I can't score, that can pass means she fits perfectly
- 8:46Speaker 3: into our style of what So we've added a lot of.
- 8:49Speaker 4: Things that you know, we we.
- 8:52Speaker 3: Felt like we needed to add, especially you know, losing
- 8:58Speaker 3: somebody like Page at Aubrey.
- 9:03Speaker 4: So that's it's a good group. I really really like it.
- 9:08Speaker 1: And that's what keeps you going here, g know, is
- 9:09Speaker 1: always thank you. We'll talk to you Wednesday.
- 9:11Speaker 4: Night, all right, Bob, see you.
- 9:15Speaker 1: Then alrighty head coach Dono rama with us on the
- 9:17Speaker 1: Yukon Women's Basketball Coaches Show. When we come back, we'll
- 9:21Speaker 1: have one of the players as we continue here on Larfield.
- 9:24Speaker 2: Stay with us.
