- 0:58support of our listeners. Thanks much for your support. Now it's time for
- 1:02us to find out what happens to Nick Knight in Nightmare for n Part four.
- 1:21Carter Brown Mysteri is adventures in excitement and suspense based on the best selling
- 1:30novels by the slick storytelling sensation Carter Brown. It was beginning to make sense
- 1:49crazy Nightmare's sense, but sense right from the start. I haven't been Nicky
- 1:53Knight, the dashing private eye. I'd been Nicky Knight, the dumb puppet,
- 1:56with every move plan for me, even this last one, returning to
- 1:59the house with Marita spray fregning it to be a surprise twist. Only the
- 2:01twist was on me, with a gun pointed at me by Louie Katz and
- 2:05the pleasant prospect of being handed over to the cops for the murder of Prince
- 2:08Al's a man, runk matey girl away you know where to put her.
- 2:12I'm sorry, Marie, I guess they're calling a tomb. You very wise,
- 2:16mister Knight, to try nothing foolish, I know, and I've been
- 2:19not smarted. Louis not only outsmarted, mister Knight, out planned, at
- 2:23maneuvered, out thought. Yeah, I was picked as the fall guy from
- 2:24the beginning, wasn't I? From the moment her own got his brother over
- 2:28here to the States on the pretext of urgent oil business. Haroun, who's
- 2:30your boss, of course, was getting tired of playing second fiddle to Al's
- 2:34a man and planning to get rid of him, get rid of him here
- 2:36in the States instead of on his own home ground. Correct. So Haroun
- 2:39engages me to protect a hair um that's already protected. And then you come
- 2:43around with a story about your sister. Even when I beat it out of
- 2:46the house with text you and Haroun weren't worried. You knew I'd found out
- 2:50from texts that Marie was in the house, and I'd come straight to you,
- 2:52which you did, mister Knight. Yeah, and played right into your
- 2:54hands. For the murder of Owl's a man. That guy come with you
- 2:58and Fatso gets it with me. All I have to take the rap.
- 3:00The only slip up was with you, Louis. You couldn't know that I
- 3:04hadnt tipped off about you by the house stick at the hotel. But I
- 3:07hadn't figured at all in I was just suspicious of you. That's why I
- 3:09tapped on the skull and beat it with Marie. But you have come back,
- 3:13mister Knight. Yeah, he even worked that out right. While I
- 3:15was getting Marie out of the way, Haroun and Hassan were carefully collecting texts.
- 3:20Hassan is Haroun's man, too like you? And then after the phone
- 3:23call proposing the quid pro quo, or more accurately, the girl for girl.
- 3:28You figured I'd come straight back here hoping to surprise you. You waited
- 3:31for me, and here I am like a good little pawn going from square
- 3:37to square exactly i'd anticipation. Yeah, the perfect pawn which is about to
- 3:42be taken. You had that car that will be his Highness Haroun, the
- 3:46new Prince with the police. Goodbye, mister Night. It's been fun playing
- 3:51with you. Yeah, they had it worked out to see for tombstone with
- 4:01my name on it. There's something very depressing about sitting in a cell swearing
- 4:08at yourself for a sucker. That was how I spent the time all that
- 4:11night and next morning, that and thinking about texts, worrying if she was
- 4:15all right. And then round about midday I was taken out of the cell
- 4:19and driven to a downtown office where a gray haired guy sat behind a desk
- 4:24with a slim, efficient looking character next to him. Take a chair,
- 4:26mister Knight, and what is this? Who are you? My name doesn't
- 4:29matter this gentleman as mister Wilde. First of all, please accept my apologies
- 4:33for having kept you in that soul so long. But when your statement came
- 4:36to us, we had to investigate, and that takes time. I don't
- 4:39get it. You will when I tell you that we checked your story about
- 4:42Marita Spray and followed to be true. Oh you did her, that's night.
- 4:45Don't play carf from nine. This isn't a time on a place for
- 4:48it. It's all right, wild Mister Knight can't be blamed for feeling a
- 4:50little sorre oh a little, but I suggest you don't say anymore mister knight
- 4:55till I put you in the picture, an international picture. Okay, okay.
- 4:58It's mostly concerned with Prince als Aman and his country's oil. As you
- 5:01probably know, that oil is extremely valuable to us and incidentally to France.
- 5:06For a long time, the United States and Britain have advocated that als Aman
- 5:10should be deposed, but France has remained firm as long as the oil came
- 5:14out of the country. They weren't worded with what went on inside. There's
- 5:17a democratic party within the country, it's been fostered for some time, and
- 5:21it's ready to take power. We could assist him to do that bloodlessly,
- 5:26and now is the time with als Aman did but of course the French must
- 5:30agree. Now wait a minute, the French or getting it now, aren't
- 5:31you. It's important that mister Spray must be found alive. Yeah. The
- 5:35indignation of the French people when they learned what happened to her will swing their
- 5:40government to our way of thinking. Yeah, I can see that. Now.
- 5:42Our big problem is to find mister Spray. Have you any idea where
- 5:46she would be? Yeah? Sure, somewhere in the house. It's an
- 5:47old place that be a seller. They'd probably put texts there as well.
- 5:51Oh yes, i'd forgotten about the other girl. I hadn't. As soon
- 5:56as Haroun even thinks we're suspicious, he will undoubtedly murder that the spray girl,
- 6:00of both of them. That's the tricky part. Mister Wild hears from
- 6:03the FBI, But I can't use him or his men any more than I
- 6:06there. Send the squad of police with fear gas and taught me guns into
- 6:10the place. It would be signing the French girl's death warrant. Looks like
- 6:14a one man job, and I'm the one man by mister Knight, because
- 6:17I know the house. Look, here's an idea. Take me back to
- 6:21headquarters, book me for murder. Let the press get all the pictures they
- 6:25want. When he run sees that in the papers, he'll feel safe again.
- 6:28Then pull out all the cops at the house tomorrow night. Let me
- 6:30out of a side door and the jail. It's not bad, sir,
- 6:33A good word, that's wild. I suppose it could. It's a risk,
- 6:36but on the other hand, I can't think of any better. Skin
- 6:40Very well, mister Knight, That's how we'll do it, Okay, you
- 6:56guys, keep it quiet, all right? Now we got over the wall,
- 7:00NIGGI, this is where you're on your own. Yeah, me and
- 7:02my thirty two. And I've got another gun for you here. Okay,
- 7:06what's this a six inch howard? Sir? It's a rocket a gun.
- 7:09You've got an emergency you pointed out the window when you pulled the trigger.
- 7:13We'll see the rocket alright, all right, thanks? If this place to
- 7:15carry it is in your sock? Oh okay, right, I just hope
- 7:20it doesn't go off and leave me. Mind us three toes and we're fan
- 7:24out and watch for your signals. If it doesn't come within twenty minutes,
- 7:27we'll come in anyway, Good luck kid, Well thanks again. Oh for
- 7:36the third time. Now, I crept up to the back door for the
- 7:42third time. Now it was unlocked. These characters obviously they didn't believe in
- 7:47guarding their rear. I was halfway across the kitchen. I heard voices for
- 7:56a place to hide. It was a boom covered build from the wall.
- 7:59I got into the homes and pulled the door to leaving just a crack the
- 8:01sea through a second later, the light was switched on and Harun and my
- 8:05old pal Louis came in United States home to take up my rightful position where
- 8:13mister Knight remains to die for the murder of your brother. He's sacrificed in
- 8:18honor of the new Printon. What about the two young ladies, and I'm
- 8:22about to take their food to the miners. The team has prepared the tray,
- 8:26good food, I see excellent. I don't like thin women. Return
- 8:30to me on the library, Louis, when you have finished. We have
- 8:33other plans. I watched Louie pick up a tray and disappear through a door
- 8:37I'd never seen before. It looked like part of the paneling. When I
- 8:41was closed. I gave him a minute or so and then headed after him.
- 8:46The door opened on a flight of steps leading down. I've been right
- 8:50about the seller. Here's your meals he got, Highness, Prince. Those
- 9:01women who are well filled. I'd like to fill him with us or even
- 9:07lead Honey night, which means a long sleep for you, Marie and Finness.
- 9:15It's not out of here yet, texts baby. Get back to Marie
- 9:18and keep down on the floor, both of you. This will bring the
- 9:18rest of him here like honest, all right, Nickie, down the floor,
- 9:22Equick. It will not help you, mister Knight. Hillo Hassan to
- 9:28floor level. You've seen done, you see, mister Knight against that,
- 9:35you have no chance. No huh. That takes care of Hassan and his
- 9:45Tommy gun. Now you're on your own, your highness, Come on down
- 9:50and demonstrate how brave a prince can be. Huh not good enough her own.
- 9:56That's an ear who's scared to come down the night. Not scared now,
- 10:05since your gun is empty. I always waited by bye and by night
- 10:15is now is it? As he came down the steps, I remember the
- 10:26rocket gun in my sock. I grabbed for it and pressed the trigger.
- 10:31A ruin was practically on top of me when it hit him. I came
- 10:35to think of it. He didn't stay a prince for long. Later that
- 10:39day I was back in the office of the gray haired guy. Congratulations,
- 10:45night, you did a magnificent job. I just pined the middle above the
- 10:48heart. General, now go home. Well, that was a man and
- 10:52a ruin out of the way. That line of succession has gone forever,
- 10:56and we feel confident that a much more democratic regime will take it place.
- 11:01People should erect the statue in your honor, but they probably won't just tell
- 11:05me one thing. Who exactly are you all? Let's just say that I'm
- 11:11connected with the State Department. My job is connected with what happens in other
- 11:16countries, you know, the things you don't read about in the newspapers.
- 11:20Well, of course, of course I'm dumb espionage. Ye, yes,
- 11:26that's the ticket. You know, if you were interested, I could use
- 11:30a man like you. Well, it's very kind of you, but no
- 11:33thanks, I'll stick to a nice quiet racket like the private eye business.
- 11:39Hasn't been so quiet these last few days, hasn't, No, But it's
- 11:43going to be much quieter for the next few days. You see, there's
- 11:48someone back at my apartment who will see that, you know, Nikki,
- 12:09Yeah, there were times when I just couldn't believe I'd ever sit in an
- 12:13American apartment again. And here's some real American music again with a real American
- 12:20man again. Huh. Although you know, those those Eastern guys have one
- 12:28idea that's not bad, a harem. I think it's a wonderful idea.
- 12:35Ah. Sure, you you get tired of a brunette, so you pick
- 12:39a blonde. You get tired of a blonde, and you pick a road
- 12:41ahead. No, no, you will want to rewrite it. You get
- 12:48tired of a certain brunette and you pick up Prussic acid in your morning coffe.
- 12:52I never drink morning coffee. You will that morning. I was only
- 12:56kidding. I love you. I love you, NICKI love to marry me.
- 13:05Nicky, You've got yourself a one woman here in for life that takes
- 13:20care of Nicki Knight his Nightmare's ever or it's just starting, depending how you
- 13:24look at it. Well, I'll be back to bring you another of my
- 13:26books. The next one's called Destiny Danger, the story of an English undercover
- 13:31man who didn't stay undercover enough. So this is Carter Brown saying so long
- 13:33for now he's seeing him in Nightmare for Night. You heard June Salter text
- 14:00while as Nicky Knight, you heard our star John Buschell. Carter Brown mystery
- 14:05theater, based on the bestselling novels by Carter Brown, is dramatized and directed
- 14:09by Morris Travers for Grace Gibson Radio Productions. Welcome Back. You know these
- 14:26programs require suspension of disbelief, some more than others. This is you know,
- 14:35there's so much it's remarkable about the way that this all ended. You
- 14:43almost get the idea, since this is based on the book that the writer
- 14:50of Carter Browns of the Coward Brown Stories got Nick Knight into such a predicament,
- 14:56couldn't figure out how to write them out. So we end up with
- 15:00a guy from the State Department hiring him to break in to the Princes to
- 15:05the new princes quarters, and we get one of the most remarkable results.
- 15:13Only on a Carter Brown mystery shell will you'd be sent to non violently rescue
- 15:22two hostages from the home of a foreign head of state and end up blowing
- 15:30up the foreign head of state instead, and be told by a State Department
- 15:35official, nicely done, well played. Have you never thought about joining up
- 15:39with us? I mean, in reality, if an oil producing state had
- 15:48its prints blown apart with a rocket on US soil and the person who was
- 15:58illegally entering their premises was not punished, you would end up with a more
- 16:03you know, a radical eater, even in the nineteen fifties. So this
- 16:07is just the most far out ending to a mystery story that I've heard.
- 16:14That said, I also have to give some compliments to to Carter Brown on
- 16:21this in that his detectives can actually get married because his characters are for the
- 16:29most part, one time use, so he doesn't need to have this ongoing
- 16:36attention even though I think most well better, I guess the less said about
- 16:48this the better. All right, Well, next week we are actually switching
- 16:55the order of programs. Johnny Doller will be first, Carter brown story will
- 16:57be second, which with all the commentary I had on this week, so
- 17:04might that'll be better in a long run. Now, let's go ahead and
- 17:07take a listen to Johnny Doller with Bob Bailey, Part five of the Henderson
- 17:14Matter from Hollywood. It's time now for Johnny Doller. I have a call
- 17:22for you from Hotford. Go ahead, please, Johnny. Right here,
- 17:27Connor's at Paramount Adjusters say what was his wire? Johnny, you're serious about
- 17:32denying liability to Missus Henderson. I sure, am. I think it'll bring
- 17:34the whole thing out in the open. This is pretty serious. If he
- 17:37got concrete his death wasn't accidental, Jim, I have a copy of the
- 17:41corner's inquests, concrete evidence that Missus Henderson lied under oath. She said her
- 17:45husband was drinking in the morning he died. Everybody here believed he was a
- 17:48little crocked when he fell out that hotel window. I've got proof that he
- 17:52didn't have a drink that morning. What proof? No bottle in his room,
- 17:55no bottle brought there, nothing. What do you say? Don't make
- 17:59a move, kid. We'll get the first plane tonight and every weekday night.
- 18:10Bob Bailey in the transcribed Adventures of the Man with the Action Packed Expense,
- 18:12Acount America's Fabulous freelance Insurance investigator OS Truly Johnny Deller expense account submitted by
- 18:29special Investigator Johnny Doller to Paramount Insurance Adjustice, Hartford, Connecticut. The following
- 18:34is an accounting of expenditures during my investigation of the Henderson matter. Sheriff Holton
- 18:41agreed that there was enough of a doubt about the circumstances prior to George Henderson's
- 18:47accidental death to warrant an official re examination of all the facts. He promised
- 18:51me the police would start an immediate investigation. That was all I needed.
- 18:55I knew Missus Henderson would be requestioned and that the pressure would start to build
- 18:57up. For teen hours later, when Tim Connors arrived in Culver, I
- 19:02had some pressure on my own. Well, Johnny, what well? The
- 19:06best thing we could do now is move in deny liability on the grounds that
- 19:10the accident has not proved. I suppose missus Henderson seusis all right. Let
- 19:12her then the burden of proving that her husband's death was accidental would be on
- 19:17her, looked, Tim, Contrary to her testimony under oath, Henderson didn't
- 19:21have a drink that morning he died, all right, She made a mistake.
- 19:25He had a heart attack, got dizzy and tumbled out of the window.
- 19:26He wasn't drunk. Oh, don't talk nonsense, Tim, Listen to
- 19:30me. Missus Henderson was ready for the coronist jury a couple of days ago,
- 19:33and she was ready for my questions when I saw her yesterday. The
- 19:37only one she wasn't ready for was you. A few days ago when you
- 19:40phoned a long distance you said she hung up on you. Well, she
- 19:42half apologized to me for that, but it was because she couldn't think of
- 19:45anything to say. Well, maybe you're right, But suppose he did die
- 19:49accidentally, and suppose it is a just insurance, I tell you, it
- 19:52isn't the fact that she made a mistake testifying about him having a drink ken,
- 19:57Johnny, do you have anything else? Three? Instinct, experience and
- 20:02statistics. Pauling Henderson's a young woman. She married a wealthy older man.
- 20:07With him out of the way, she has all his money and all her
- 20:10youth. All right, I'm going to phone the company soon as I can
- 20:11find a phone. Tell him I'm working for evidence, and the best way
- 20:15to get it is to bring missus Henderson out in the open. File a
- 20:17complaint against her. What charge suspected murder? Oh no, Johnny didn't get
- 20:22us in all kinds of trouble. Remember the drink. Tim Henderson didn't have
- 20:25the drink, and I will have to have more than Adam. Sorry,
- 20:29Johnny, all right, I'll get you more. An hour later, I
- 20:37was with Sheriff Holton comparing notes. He reported that after questioning Missus Henderson,
- 20:42she admitted she might have been mistaken about Henderson drinking the morning of his death.
- 20:45She wasn't sure, but Eve Holton said what we both were thinking.
- 20:49He went in front of the corner's jury, gave a misleading impressions from made
- 20:53us think that George was drunk and stumbled out the window. We better find
- 20:59out who who helped her pull this off. Sheriff Holton had every man in
- 21:07his office working on the case. By then. It was a long,
- 21:08tedious job of combing over everything in Pauline Henderson's background to find a possible accomplice.
- 21:15About five in the afternoon, I drove to the Henderson ranch with Holton.
- 21:18Missus Henderson was out, but we interviewed one of the servants. That's
- 21:22right, sir, once twice a week. Uh, you know where she
- 21:25drove to on these trips? I have no idea. Missus Henderson get up
- 21:29early in the morning, be gone all day. How do you know she
- 21:30went out of town? Well, generally take a small suit case with her.
- 21:34Change your clothes. Don't take those when you're visiting a friend in town.
- 21:38Do you tell us what car she'd use on these trips? Cadiliac always
- 21:42come back covered with mud and ice. Let's have to be washed up.
- 21:47Mister Henderson used to complain about that, about the car being dirty, about
- 21:51the trips mostly, and Missus Henderson had some pretty good arguments about him.
- 21:55He'd say, Missus Henderson shouldn't visit that man? What man? Just that
- 22:00man? I never knew who it was. They argued about You've known missus
- 22:04Henderson quite a long time, yes, sir nor. When she was a
- 22:07little girl, when she first came here, saw her grow up, go
- 22:11away to school, go away to Europe, come back a little more,
- 22:14grown up, a little different every time. Were you a surprised when mister
- 22:18Henderson married her? Well? No, well, yes, guess I was
- 22:22because she was so much younger. Not that so much. I mean,
- 22:27well, mister Henderson, he had something about the plains and cattle mountains about
- 22:33him. When he moved it was as big as all them things. Missus
- 22:37Henderson's different. She didn't fit in here. Is that what you're trying to
- 22:41say? I think she fit not like him. Though before they were married
- 22:47they were sort of like good friends. I mean they'd ride horses and go
- 22:49hunting and laugh and talk about different things. Missus Henderson, she traveled Europe,
- 22:55saw so many things and places in the world. She'd fit here,
- 22:59But then she didn't belong here. I feel awful about mister Henderson's being dead.
- 23:06There was anything wrong with the way he died. I'd like to be
- 23:07fixed. Missus Henderson. Probably fire me for talking like this, but I
- 23:12don't care. This house isn't the same no more. By the time we
- 23:23got back into town, Sheriff Holton's voice had discovered the names of three men
- 23:26who had been seen at various places around Culver and the company of Missus Henderson
- 23:32rod Tyler. Oh, see mining engineer. He's been away from here for
- 23:36over a year. Now, you know, here's another one, Sam Pollard.
- 23:40Sam died six months ago. Hey, well, Noah Baxter Baxter.
- 23:47Her name is vaguely familiar. Yeah, he owns a hotel. You're staying
- 23:49in a couple of ranches too. He might have been the one who tried
- 23:52to have you thrown out. He also owns the Mayor young man about thirty
- 23:57thirty five. Let's go see him. Another drive, this time north of
- 24:07Culvert at the Baxter Wrench. We found No Baxter busy with his help shoring
- 24:11horns on kettle, A lean, tall man with thin features. If you're
- 24:15trying to find out if I haven't seen Pauline on the sly, well,
- 24:18she'd been married to George. Why didn't you come right out and ask,
- 24:21all right? Have you no? Not? On the sly There's nothing between
- 24:26us. George knew any time she came over here to see me he was
- 24:30a good friend of mine. I'm sorry he's dead. Pauline's a good friend
- 24:34of mine too, I'm sorry who people are thinking what you are about us.
- 24:40Let's go up the house getting cold? All right, Stan, It's
- 24:44enough for today. No, I got to ask you this. Where were
- 24:52you last Thursday, the day George died? Sir? Yeah? I was
- 24:56right here and you prove that. Sure? Ask anybody you boys want to
- 25:04drink? No, thanks, how I do mac mac? I didn't get
- 25:11it myself. When was the last time you were in cover, mister Baxter?
- 25:17Three four weeks ago? My cook and the others handle what supplies we
- 25:21need. Do you mind if we talked to some of your help around here?
- 25:25What do you want to talk to him about about last Thursday? About
- 25:27what happened when missus Henderson came here to visit. It wouldn't look good if
- 25:32she came here to visit me, wouldn't. Well, that depends on the
- 25:34circumstances. No, she'd come and sit there and read and look at some
- 25:41of those paintings. We'd talk when I had time. Anything wrong with that,
- 25:47No, mister Baxter, I think I ought to tell you. I've
- 25:51asked my company to find a complaint against Missus Henderson suspicion of murder. Oh,
- 25:59I like to tell you something. She didn't kill him, and she
- 26:03didn't have him killed. She loved him a lot more than George loved her.
- 26:06I think both you know her. Her dad was a drunken cowhand.
- 26:10When he died, George took her over, gave her everything. So you
- 26:12see, you're wrong. She loved George for giving her what he gave her,
- 26:15and mostly for being the kind of a man he was. I lied
- 26:22to you a couple of minutes ago. There was something between us. It
- 26:27was bound to happen. Sooner or later. She'd come here to cry on
- 26:32my shoulder and I my letter cry about George. He wanted to divorce her,
- 26:41didn't you know that? I had the idea was the other way around.
- 26:47You're all wrong. George raised her, educated her, made her into
- 26:52a woman, and then he married her, and she wasn't what he wanted
- 26:55at all. Do you know who George wanted to marry? Matty Nicka Baker
- 27:00the school Mark? Come on, Oh, there was nothing between George and
- 27:03Maddie, but there would have been if he lived. What about you and
- 27:07missus Henderson. Yeah. The thing that was between us was that I wanted
- 27:15her. She didn't want me, but I wanted her. I was glad
- 27:19when she told me about the divorce coming up. I really think she would
- 27:22have listened to me. But she wanted to be married to George. She
- 27:27really loved him. Sure you don't want one of these No, Nope,
- 27:37And I really loved her. I went to see George last Thursday this hotel.
- 27:44You know why to tell him to go back to Pauline. Yeah,
- 27:48because I knew what he meant to her. You can talk to my people
- 27:53around here. They'd lie for me and say I was here last Thursday all
- 27:56day. They tell you that Pauline never came to see me. They'd lie
- 28:00right down the line for me. But mister Dollar, I can't let you
- 28:04get out that complaint and take her in. One of my trucks was taking
- 28:11some beef to the hotel last Thursday. I rode in with the driver and
- 28:15went in the back way. I went right up to George's room to talk
- 28:18to him. Pauline had just left. I wanted to talk to him about
- 28:23the same things I've been telling you. I didn't want to hurt him I
- 28:29loved him the same as everybody loved him. When I got to his room,
- 28:32he wouldn't let me talk at all. He was mad that I interfered.
- 28:34He tried to swing on me. I shoved him once he went out
- 28:40the window. That's all I killed him. Expense account ida fifty eight dollars
- 28:56and fifteen cents. Hotel and food while in Colver, Montana. Item nine
- 29:00same as Item two transportation by train and playing back to Hartford Item ten eighty
- 29:06eight dollars. Miscellaneous expense account total eight hundred and two dollars and fifty cents.
- 29:11Remarks we still had to pay double indemnity Mattie, Nickobacher, Pauline Henderson,
- 29:19Noah Baxter. They'll pay another way with the hurt that comes to nice
- 29:26people. Yours truly, Johnny Dollar. Remember there'll be another exciting story beginning
- 29:45next Monday night next week, a real mystery complete with plenty of action,
- 29:51A beautiful blonde and a killer lurking in the shadows. Join us, won't
- 29:56you? Yours truly? Johnny Dollar? Yours truly, Johnny Doller, starring
- 30:18Bob Bailey, is transcribed in Hollywood, written by John Dawson. It is
- 30:22produced and directed by Jack Johnstone. Heard in this week's cast were Lillian baieff
- 30:29Irene, tedrow D J Thompson, Herblas, Marvin Miller Forres Lewis, Bob
- 30:33Bruce, and Russ Thorsonen. Musical supervision by Amerigo Marinho. Be sure to
- 30:40join us on Monday Night, same time and station, or another exciting story
- 30:45of yours truly, Johnny Doller, This is Roy Rowan speaking welcome back.
- 31:52You know, if I had listened to this episode first, I probably would
- 31:56have had a much bigger plausibility issue with Johnny encouraging the insurance company to press
- 32:05ahead with trying to get the widow charged with murder based on the fact that
- 32:13it may not have been an accidental death. But after what we heard in
- 32:16Carter Brown, this doesn't seem quite as egregious. This was based on a
- 32:24John Lon Johnny Dollar script, The Underwood Matter, we played at his episode
- 32:30five hundred and seventy back on December thirtieth, two thousand and eleven, first
- 32:35aired February twenty seventh, nineteen fifty three, and like a lot of the
- 32:39one scripts, there was definitely this one heads up to an anti climatic conclusion,
- 32:47and really you get the sense that Johnny's from lack of award, his
- 32:54sort of prejudice from all the years that he has been an insurance investigation playing
- 33:04the percentages, that he had a really firm idea of what was going on
- 33:08and how this was going to go, and really un characteristically, I think
- 33:16in some ways when off half cock just kind of on instinct here and it
- 33:23didn't quite turn out in this episode. But of course next week's another case,
- 33:29so we'll resume on Monday with another Johnny Dowler story with Bob Bailey.
- 33:37Now we turn to listener comments and feedback, and we begin with Kelly,
- 33:42who says, Adam Adam Adam. Even after that nice man called and told
- 33:45you how to pronounce it correctly, you still kept saying wrong. It's not
- 33:51Shastovic, it's Shastakovich. Please do the man the honor saying his name right.
- 33:57Shostakovich, Shasta to Kovich, and I will say Miakopa, Kelly.
- 34:04Sometimes it's weird. There are certain names that I will struggle with pronounced pronouncing
- 34:12right. I know that in earlier episodes I made a key fo pau not
- 34:19pronouncing POI row right. But we mean no respect to mister Shastakovich, the
- 34:27author the imposer of the opening theme, and we will try and say his
- 34:31name right in the future, and my apologies for them a stake on that,
- 34:37Thanks so much, Kelly. Finally, we have a tweet. The
- 34:40one negative on doing some of the short series is we don't get listener feedback
- 34:45until after we're done recording them. But we do have a tweet from Decody
- 34:55regarding the Big Guy, who writes it is sure to friend than the other
- 35:00shows you play, but not bad. Well, thanks so much, and
- 35:04I'm glad you enjoyed the Big Guy and hope you'll enjoy Mister Moto coming up
- 35:08next week. Well. Also this weekend we will have the one public domain
- 35:15Mister Moto movie. Mister Moto's Last Morning will be this month's video theater of
- 35:21more details in terms of family friendliness and stuff like that at the end of
- 35:27tomorrow's episode of the Lineup. Remember we will be back on Monday with another
- 35:30episode of Johnny Doller and on Friday. Join us for a brand new Carter
- 35:37Brown story starting next Friday. In the meantime, send your comments to Box
