- 0:00Dayna Roselli: Welcome to Vegas Revealed episode 49.
- 0:02Sean McAllister: It's a special end-of-the-year episode, and the countdown is on.
- 0:20Dayna Roselli: Welcome to Vegas Revealed.
- 0:21Dayna Roselli: You know what?
- 0:22Dayna Roselli: We wanted to do an episode 49 so that in the new year we start fresh with episode 50.
- 0:27Dayna Roselli: I'm Dana Roselli.
- 0:28Sean McAllister: And I'm Sean McAllister.
- 0:30Sean McAllister: It'll be episode 50 and also the start of season two.
- 0:34Sean McAllister: Woo! Dana, can you believe it?
- 0:36Dayna Roselli: No, I can't believe it.
- 0:37Dayna Roselli: What a year it has been, right?
- 0:39Dayna Roselli: I mean, just we could go on and on forever.
- 0:41Dayna Roselli: We all know the situation that we're in worldwide, really, but especially, you know, and right now across our country we're feeling it.
- 0:48Dayna Roselli: A lot of closures.
- 0:49Dayna Roselli: Las Vegas is still open at 25% capacity.
- 0:52Sean McAllister: Yeah, and I think as we as we look back through our uh library of episodes from the start of 2020, it it it's really is kind of an interesting thing to to go through and and listen to because we we started out literally out on the strip at live events and and you know bringing uh snippets of our experiences out on the strip to you on Vegas Revealed, and then you know, we we moved from the studio at the Venetian to a home studio where we've been now, uh, and it's become our home.
- 1:31Sean McAllister: I know.
- 1:32Dayna Roselli: Whoever thought, right?
- 1:33Dayna Roselli: I mean, and if you're interested, maybe you're just discovering, Sean and I.
- 1:37Dayna Roselli: We've both been in broadcasting for a long time and a very long time here in Las Vegas.
- 1:41Dayna Roselli: So we we know a lot of people, we know a lot of things, we have a lot of tips.
- 1:44Dayna Roselli: But if you're interested to go back and listen to some of our podcasts from the past, we've got some great interviews with uh former mayor Oscar Goodman, who was, you know, a mob attorney back in the day.
- 1:54Dayna Roselli: We interviewed Derek Stevens about Circa.
- 1:57Dayna Roselli: We were at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino when it finally closed its doors and began the revamp for Virgin.
- 2:04Sean McAllister: Which uh it's exciting to report that a lot of um at least the aesthetic portions of the Virgin Hotel are are nearing completion on the outside.
- 2:16Sean McAllister: I just was over there and drove past the other day, and the the signs in the parking lot area that direct you where to go, those are all up.
- 2:26Sean McAllister: The uh valet area, the portico share out in front of the hotel, that's all finished.
- 2:32Sean McAllister: That's all gold and shiny and beautiful.
- 2:35Sean McAllister: So Virgin Hotel is really coming along.
- 2:38Dayna Roselli: Good.
- 2:39Dayna Roselli: I'm excited for anything that will open and freshen up, you know, we have that to look forward to coming up this spring.
- 2:45Dayna Roselli: Yeah, and hey, a big shout out to all the uh Backstreet Boys fans who blew up our YouTube channel.
- 2:50Dayna Roselli: Yeah, we've got all sorts of new subscribers, and you know, that video is like almost at 10,000 views.
- 2:56Dayna Roselli: So we're glad that you all enjoyed it and just want to give a big shout out.
- 2:59Dayna Roselli: Thanks for the support.
- 3:00Sean McAllister: Yeah, and thanks to Nick Carter for taking the time to chat with Vegas Revealed.
- 3:04Sean McAllister: Uh so obviously the big event, it's it's New Year's Eve, Dana.
- 3:08Sean McAllister: I know.
- 3:09Sean McAllister: And the countdown, I know everybody is ready.
- 3:12Sean McAllister: Even though things aren't going to change with the flip of a switch, at least 2021 is providing some hope and some optimism.
- 3:21Dayna Roselli: I mean, I think it's like a mental thing, right?
- 3:23Dayna Roselli: We just say, oh, it's 2021, finally a new year, but we all kind of know that it's probably not going to change much, and we're probably gonna feel the effects of everything that's happened even more, but we want to stay positive.
- 3:34Dayna Roselli: So, yes, 2021 is on the way.
- 3:37Dayna Roselli: And as we mentioned, Las Vegas is doing this virtual live stream countdown to midnight, which is really cool since we're not doing the the fireworks on the strip this year.
- 3:46Dayna Roselli: So we found out a little bit more.
- 3:49Dayna Roselli: They are gonna have a DJ, and and I love that they picked DJ Vice from the Tau group because he's been on the strip for a very long time.
- 3:57Sean McAllister: Oh, he's been around Vegas forever.
- 3:59Dayna Roselli: And he deserves this, yeah.
- 4:00Sean McAllister: He certainly does.
- 4:02Dayna Roselli: Sure.
- 4:02Dayna Roselli: So he's gonna be there, and he's you know an artist and producer, and he's creating the whole thing.
- 4:06Dayna Roselli: So that's kind of cool.
- 4:06Dayna Roselli: DJ Vice will be the featured DJ for this event.
- 4:09Dayna Roselli: It kicks off at 11:30 p.m.
- 4:11Dayna Roselli: and they're gonna blow up 2020.
- 4:13Dayna Roselli: Welcome in 2021.
- 4:14Dayna Roselli: I can't wait to see what they do.
- 4:16Dayna Roselli: And you can see it at visitlosvegas.com.
- 4:19Dayna Roselli: You can also see it on the uh Las Vegas YouTube and Facebook.
- 4:23Dayna Roselli: And we're talking about the L V C V A, the only Vegas.
- 4:27Dayna Roselli: Uh so just search Vegas at Vegas on social, they'll have the links.
- 4:30Sean McAllister: That's right.
- 4:30Sean McAllister: And you can go to our uh Vegas-revealed.com and also our Vegas Revealed uh Twitter, Facebook, Instagram.
- 4:39Sean McAllister: We'll put all the all the links up there as well so that we can all just sit back and and ring in 2021, blow up 2020, bid it farewell, keep it in the rear view, move forward into uh a good new year.
- 4:56Sean McAllister: Yeah.
- 4:56Sean McAllister: And with uh the new year comes uh some shows that are coming back, Dana.
- 5:01Dayna Roselli: Right.
- 5:02Dayna Roselli: Brad Garrett's Comedy Club at MGM Grand decided to reopen on December 26th with two shows nightly at 7 and 10.
- 5:09Dayna Roselli: And, you know, they were doing it before, and I assume they're still doing it this way in a big ballroom.
- 5:13Dayna Roselli: So there's plenty of space.
- 5:14Dayna Roselli: You know, they can only have the max capacity of 50 guests, and they have to have the six feet between the parties, a minimum of 25 feet from the onstage performers.
- 5:23Dayna Roselli: But they thought, you know what, we are able to do this, and they're providing entertainment for folks that stay at MGM Grand, that are visiting Las Vegas.
- 5:30Dayna Roselli: Brad Garrett, not on the schedule, but he always picks a great list of comedians, they're so funny.
- 5:35Sean McAllister: Oh, and he has such an incredible lineup over at uh his comedy club.
- 5:40Sean McAllister: Those comedians really are hilarious.
- 5:42Sean McAllister: So you can't go wrong, whoever is performing.
- 5:44Sean McAllister: So Brad Garrett's Comedy Club over at MGM Grand, uh coming back as we uh head into the new year.
- 5:51Sean McAllister: Also, Dana, I do want to mention one show that has never closed down is Extravaganza over at Bally's.
- 6:00Sean McAllister: Right.
- 6:00Sean McAllister: They're in the old Jubilee showroom, which is a beautiful classic Vegas showroom.
- 6:05Sean McAllister: And Extravaganza is uh they came back when they were able to have 250 people in the showroom, and then almost immediately the ordinance went into effect that only allowed 50 people, and the producers of that show, kudos to them.
- 6:22Sean McAllister: They said, you know what, Vegas needs live entertainment.
- 6:25Sean McAllister: We're going to push through, we're gonna keep our entertainers working, we're gonna keep a show open for uh, you know, as many people as can come and see it, and uh to show you know the the fruits of the labor that's gone into it.
- 6:41Sean McAllister: Every single one of their shows has been sold out, even though it is only 50 people allowed.
- 6:47Sean McAllister: But what they've done, Dana, is that they've added additional performances.
- 6:52Sean McAllister: I think they're doing three or four performances a day to try and accommodate the volume of people who want to come and see that show.
- 7:00Dayna Roselli: Right.
- 7:01Dayna Roselli: No, listen, you gotta do what you gotta do.
- 7:02Dayna Roselli: Yeah, shout out and kudos to them because it's they they have a big cast.
- 7:07Dayna Roselli: Yeah.
- 7:07Dayna Roselli: It's like I think 30 plus people in that show.
- 7:10Dayna Roselli: So they're, you know, probably fronting up some money for that just to keep everyone working.
- 7:14Dayna Roselli: And I think that's wonderful.
- 7:15Dayna Roselli: And what an intimate experience to go in that big theater and see a show with, you know, maximum of 50 people.
- 7:21Dayna Roselli: Talk about a date night for you and your it's like it's like uh, you know, it's such a like a great guy move to like rent out the oh, I I got the whole theater for us.
- 7:29Dayna Roselli: Just us and and and 48 people.
- 7:32Sean McAllister: And a word to the wise.
- 7:33Sean McAllister: If you do want to go and see extravaganza over there at Bally's, make sure that you book ahead because uh tickets are hard to get at this point, and you do need to uh look a few weeks out to make sure that you get a seat.
- 7:45Dayna Roselli: Right.
- 7:46Dayna Roselli: Um, the Rio is officially open, by the way.
- 7:49Dayna Roselli: That's good to know.
- 7:50Dayna Roselli: That's just off the strip, so that's the final Caesars Entertainment property that opened the big Rio over there, and they're doing the World Series of poker and all that.
- 7:58Dayna Roselli: Um, no word on any of the shows reopening just yet.
- 8:01Dayna Roselli: I don't think Penn and Teller are coming back or announced yet.
- 8:04Dayna Roselli: Chip and Dales are not back yet, but the hotel casino is open.
- 8:09Dayna Roselli: However, the Mirage announced that it's closing midweek and not even just like the rooms, like they're closing the whole shebang.
- 8:16Sean McAllister: Yeah, because we've talked, you know, in past episodes about uh resorts that are closing down hotel operations during the middle of the week, but the Mirage is now closing down all operations.
- 8:30Sean McAllister: You can't go into the casino, none of the attractions, none of the dining, none of the hotel is going to be open midweek.
- 8:38Dayna Roselli: Right.
- 8:38Dayna Roselli: I mean, the volcano is closing.
- 8:40Sean McAllister: Even the volcano, I know.
- 8:42Dayna Roselli: What?
- 8:43Dayna Roselli: No volcano midweek, but yeah.
- 8:45Dayna Roselli: Listen, uh, they had to make a business decision and and they're doing it, and hopefully they'll be very busy and thriving from Thursday at noon to Monday at noon each week.
- 8:54Sean McAllister: And so that starts on January 4th, um, 2021.
- 9:00Sean McAllister: So um Yeah.
- 9:02Sean McAllister: You know, we hope that that that trend is going to turn around as quickly as possible because we do want things to be fully open and invite people back and obviously keep everyone safe in the process.
- 9:14Dayna Roselli: Yeah, and I want to talk uh room rates, because that's been a hot topic on social media in just a minute.
- 9:20Dayna Roselli: I also want to chat about what you and I did on Christmas because we both ate at restaurants on the strip.
- 9:24Dayna Roselli: But uh something I wanted to mention is I was Christmas Eve, uh my friend had her family over.
- 9:31Dayna Roselli: Uh, we went over and did a little wine and socially distance hang, and I was talking to her brother who was telling me he wants to start a podcast.
- 9:39Dayna Roselli: He's been doing these podcasts kind of on his own and he hasn't been able to post them.
- 9:43Dayna Roselli: And he was chatting with me and saying, How do you even post a podcast?
- 9:47Dayna Roselli: So, you know, we thought we would share and kind of offer a little bit of a deal information about BuzzSprout.
- 9:53Dayna Roselli: That's the host site that we use here at Vegas Revealed.
- 9:57Dayna Roselli: And they are offering listeners a$20 Amazon gift card for every sign-up for a paid account.
- 10:04Sean McAllister: What I have really loved about, you know, working with BuzzSprout is not only the analytics where we get to see who's listening around the country and around the world, but they really are helpful in sending out newsletters and really supporting you as a podcaster and giving you really great information to improve the quality of your podcast, to really understand the environment, to help attract sponsors.
- 10:31Sean McAllister: So it really is an all-around great platform to use.
- 10:36Dayna Roselli: Yeah, and the thing is, is I don't, it's funny because you and I, when we started this podcast, we didn't know anything about podcasting.
- 10:43Dayna Roselli: But then when we discovered, okay, here's a great, we need a host site.
- 10:46Dayna Roselli: So we went to Buzz Sprout, and then literally everything just falls into your lap from there.
- 10:50Dayna Roselli: It's very simple.
- 10:51Dayna Roselli: They do offer a free service, but it'll delete all your podcasts.
- 10:55Dayna Roselli: So you've got to get the one level up.
- 10:56Dayna Roselli: It's only 12 bucks a month.
- 10:58Dayna Roselli: That's all you need.
- 10:59Dayna Roselli: It does everything for you.
- 11:00Dayna Roselli: You sign up, you throw in the artwork, you put your caption, it gives you a website and shows you where your podcast is listed.
- 11:07Dayna Roselli: It gives all the details.
- 11:09Dayna Roselli: Really cool.
- 11:10Dayna Roselli: It also easily allows you to get listed on all the apps that you want: iHeart, Spotify, Apple, Google, you name it, the list goes on.
- 11:22Dayna Roselli: People think, oh gosh, what do I have to do to get listed on all these apps?
- 11:25Dayna Roselli: But it's really simple because BuzzSprout makes it simple.
- 11:28Sean McAllister: Yeah, BuzzSprout is uh the go-to place to make podcasting easy, BuzzSprout.com.
- 11:35Dayna Roselli: In our listener notes, when you're listening to our podcast, we've put a link there.
- 11:39Dayna Roselli: If you click that and you want to join, just do that and you'll get a$20 Amazon gift card.
- 11:44Dayna Roselli: So it's a good deal, and I promise you, if you've ever wanted to start a podcast, you need to do it.
- 11:49Sean McAllister: Dana, I want to get back to the room rates because this is something that you posted about on your Twitter page.
- 11:56Sean McAllister: You posted a screenshot of a room deal at it wasn't even a deal, it was just the flat rate at Treasure Island, and rooms were nothing, literally nothing.
- 12:08Sean McAllister: Zero dollars.
- 12:09Dayna Roselli: Zero dollars.
- 12:10Dayna Roselli: It was insane.
- 12:11Dayna Roselli: Uh, I heard a lot of people talking about these$5 and$7 room rates.
- 12:14Dayna Roselli: So I went on Expedia, which is what I always use, and looked, and I saw Treasure Island was zero dollars.
- 12:21Dayna Roselli: Now you pay taxes and the resort fee, so it was like$42 or something a night.
- 12:26Dayna Roselli: But we were all chatting, going, I mean, hey, that's like cheaper than rent, and you get, you know, room service, free Wi-Fi, you get, you know, cable TV and movies.
- 12:35Sean McAllister: Right.
- 12:35Sean McAllister: And housekeeping.
- 12:36Dayna Roselli: And housekeeping, right, yes, room service.
- 12:38Dayna Roselli: All right.
- 12:39Dayna Roselli: And so it was something to think about.
- 12:42Dayna Roselli: And then people were amazed.
- 12:43Dayna Roselli: It got a lot of feedback saying, you know, uh, this isn't what we want.
- 12:47Dayna Roselli: Of course, we love a good deal, but we don't want rooms at zero dollars, or and like you were saying earlier, the Stratosphere and other hotels on the strip, I think it was Xcaliber, they were in the seven to nine dollar range too.
- 13:02Dayna Roselli: So it wasn't that much more expensive.
- 13:03Sean McAllister: No, there were uh a handful of other properties that that did have room rates going from single digits up to the low double digits, like uh definitely under 20 bucks.
- 13:13Sean McAllister: Yeah.
- 13:14Sean McAllister: And I mean, that's it's something that I have personally never ever seen in my 15 years of living here in Las Vegas.
- 13:24Sean McAllister: And we've been here through some other tough times too.
- 13:28Dayna Roselli: Yeah, it it's incredible.
- 13:30Dayna Roselli: People are are frustrated with the low room rates because and I say people, I mean people that live here because we want to keep the quality of Las Vegas.
- 13:37Dayna Roselli: Obviously, we want to attract people to come and spend money and enjoy themselves and and use these rooms that are open, but let's just say it's attracting, you know, a less well-behaved crowd.
- 13:48Dayna Roselli: A lot of people, I think it was um a friend of mine was going to stay, had family, and they were gonna stay at Red Rock.
- 13:54Dayna Roselli: And then Red Rock upped their prices because they too want a well-behaved crowd at Red Rock.
- 14:00Dayna Roselli: And so these people that were gonna stay there, they moved to the strip, but the Luxor got a cheaper price, and you know, for them it worked out saving money-wise.
- 14:07Dayna Roselli: But like it's interesting to see the tactics going on, and even when you look at this week, we quickly just looked up on Expedia, you know, did the room rates go up?
- 14:15Dayna Roselli: And still you can get Treasure Island for 29 bucks.
- 14:18Dayna Roselli: Um, I think uh browse around 36 bucks at the Orleans, um,$26 at the Strat.
- 14:27Dayna Roselli: So there are a lot of low prices even for a New Year's Eve week.
- 14:33Sean McAllister: Yeah, I know.
- 14:33Sean McAllister: And this is usually when we would see uh even at the link, wow, that prices are$32, flamingo, the same price.
- 14:41Sean McAllister: Um again, New Year's Eve.
- 14:43Sean McAllister: This is when we would normally be welcoming 300,000 visitors to Las Vegas.
- 14:50Sean McAllister: At least, I think in in years past, it's even been you know up to half a million visitors that would come in just for the weekend.
- 14:58Sean McAllister: Um, you know, obviously this year we don't have big festivities, big in-person festivities uh going on.
- 15:06Sean McAllister: Um and so you don't have the the room rates reflecting that.
- 15:12Sean McAllister: Usually this is you know when we would see prices be bumped up.
- 15:17Dayna Roselli: Right.
- 15:17Dayna Roselli: Exactly.
- 15:18Dayna Roselli: I mean, and I put in when we're talking about like$32 at the link and$41 at at Planet Hollywood,$32 at Flamingo.
- 15:25Dayna Roselli: This is the period over New Year's.
- 15:29Dayna Roselli: So I put in tomorrow night, we're we're actually recording this on a Monday.
- 15:33Dayna Roselli: I think I put in tomorrow or Wednesday, so right before New Year's Eve, through New Year's Eve, New Year's Day, and leaving on a Sunday.
- 15:39Sean McAllister: Wow.
- 15:40Dayna Roselli: So I mean you're you're getting the flamingo for 311 bucks for four nights.
- 15:45Sean McAllister: That's amazing.
- 15:46Sean McAllister: It really is.
- 15:46Sean McAllister: Oh my gosh.
- 15:47Dayna Roselli: You know, and if you want to take advantage, take advantage, you know, uh be well behaved.
- 15:52Dayna Roselli: That's what we ask.
- 15:52Dayna Roselli: Because, you know, we have seen uh spikes here and there and in violence and fights and things like that, and we don't want that here in Las Vegas.
- 15:59Sean McAllister: Well, and for everybody here who is a Las Vegas local who works in hospitality or who is uh uh an ambassador by proxy by the fact that they live here and you know are uh promoting Las Vegas to friends and family who they talk to.
- 16:17Sean McAllister: You know, everybody uh wants the Las Vegas experience to be a good experience.
- 16:24Sean McAllister: So we just want to keep that in mind and um get back to get back to the good old days as quickly as possible.
- 16:32Dayna Roselli: Um both of us went out to eat on the strip on Christmas Day because they're you know, obviously we haven't been able to leave Las Vegas to visit our families and get together with families.
- 16:40Dayna Roselli: So you're like, well, what do I do?
- 16:41Dayna Roselli: You know, like for you, it was you and your husband.
- 16:44Dayna Roselli: Uh for me, I'm alone, but I had a couple friends that were also alone, so two of the three of us went out.
- 16:49Dayna Roselli: But we went to Reyos at Caesar's Palace uh for dinner, and it was it was excellent.
- 16:54Dayna Roselli: The service was great, they were so appreciative that we were there.
- 16:57Dayna Roselli: Rayos is always good, and you know, it's not the prices aren't through the roof.
- 17:01Dayna Roselli: Uh gosh, we had the meatballs, which are amazing.
- 17:04Dayna Roselli: Uh, a nice glass of rose.
- 17:06Dayna Roselli: I had a little pasta, and we sat there and talked for a couple hours, and it was a really nice experience.
- 17:12Dayna Roselli: And Caesars Palace was pretty busy on Christmas Day.
- 17:15Dayna Roselli: Now, I've gone and done a little shopping at the forum shops prior to that, prior to Christmas Day.
- 17:20Dayna Roselli: So I've hit the forum shops a couple couple times during the week, and it's not that busy.
- 17:26Dayna Roselli: But Christmas Day, I did notice a little bit of an uptick, and they definitely had a lot of visitors at Caesars Palace.
- 17:32Sean McAllister: And uh we were over at Bavett's over at Park MGM.
- 17:38Sean McAllister: Um, this is their steakhouse.
- 17:39Dayna Roselli: I've never been, I haven't been there yet.
- 17:41Dayna Roselli: I remember getting invited and I couldn't make it.
- 17:43Dayna Roselli: It was a late night.
- 17:44Sean McAllister: It's uh so Bivett's originally they started in Chicago.
- 17:47Sean McAllister: There's only two locations: one in Chicago, one here in Las Vegas.
- 17:51Sean McAllister: Their steaks are incredible.
- 17:54Sean McAllister: The atmosphere is just so cool.
- 17:58Sean McAllister: It's like that dark steakhouse kind of feel with like the dark wood and you know the booths around.
- 18:04Sean McAllister: It's just a great place over at Park MGM.
- 18:08Sean McAllister: The casino was actually busier than I thought it would be on Christmas.
- 18:12Sean McAllister: There were a good number of people there.
- 18:14Sean McAllister: So we went in for a seven o'clock reservation on Christmas night, which was fantastic.
- 18:20Sean McAllister: The service was was great, the food was absolutely amazing.
- 18:25Sean McAllister: But as I looked at the menu earlier in the day, I did realize that they offer a prefix menu as part of their welcome back option because they've only been back open for the past you know month and a half, two months.
- 18:42Sean McAllister: It's a$65 per guest prefix menu that includes uh your salad and hors d'oeuvre, uh an entree, which it can be a roasted chicken, salmon, a petite filet, or a ribeye for a little bit more, um, and a side.
- 19:00Sean McAllister: And that's all for$65, which is amazing when you look at you know prices for a strip steakhouse.
- 19:10Sean McAllister: Uh so that's offered from 5 p.m.
- 19:12Sean McAllister: to 6 30 daily.
- 19:14Sean McAllister: So if you're making a reservation over at Bivett's, my tip for the week is to make the reservation between 5 p.m.
- 19:21Sean McAllister: and 6 p.m.
- 19:22Sean McAllister: so you can take advantage of that welcome back prefix menu.
- 19:26Dayna Roselli: Oh, that's awesome.
- 19:27Dayna Roselli: Yeah, these welcome back deals are really amazing.
- 19:30Dayna Roselli: So if you even live in Las Vegas and are trying to, you know, have a maybe a celebration for an anniversary, a birthday, you know, take take advantage of some of these welcome back deals.
- 19:40Sean McAllister: Or a new year.
- 19:40Dayna Roselli: Or a new year.
- 19:42Dayna Roselli: Oh my goodness.
- 19:43Dayna Roselli: I can't believe we are approaching 2021 and uh it feels a little uneventful, I'm not gonna lie, but we would just really want to thank everyone for listening to Vegas Revealed.
- 19:54Dayna Roselli: You know, the podcast has continued to grow around the world.
- 19:57Dayna Roselli: We appreciate that.
- 19:59Dayna Roselli: And going into it, like we've mentioned before, we had no idea we were kind of going to have to switch our our language and what we talk about and topics because we thought we were just gonna constantly be giving out all these secret tips and how to, you know, get around paying for things that are too expensive and how to get a good deal, and we were gonna have entertainers on and shows and and then we had to make a switch.
